Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Booming Up America Doug Gottlieb
Show Fox Sports Radio, coming to you from the sunny
city of Los Angeles, California, which may, by the end
of the show be the new home of many Machado
Rumors are Machado Star Shortstop and third basement for the

(00:24):
Baltimorials headed to Chevez Ravine or Chauz Ravine. We'll get
more on that. John Smoltz set to join us live
from the All Star Game MLB on Fox Tonight. All
Star Game the Festivities, which of course you can see
on Fox Live in d C, which hosted last night's

(00:44):
home Run Derby, and that's where we'll begin. Bryce Harper
has a comeback wins the home run Derby. UM, I
know this because I read this and I've seen this
flash across my Twitter, not because I watched. I'm not
gonna sit here and tell you what to watch and
what not to watch. I'm just gonna tell you that
it's a home run derby. I don't really love it.
I'm not super into it. And and really the tide

(01:07):
turned on me when I watched two home run derby's
in person as in Kansas City for one, and in
Anaheim for one. They're long, they're boring, and they're kind
of the same thing over Like, the beauty to a
home run is the ability to do it when somebody's
not trying to allow you to hit a home run,
which runs counter to what the home run derby is.

(01:30):
That's hitting a home run when all you're trying to
do is hit a home run. That's kind of the
opposite of baseball. Uh Adam Jones from the Baltimorial is
gonna join us next hour. I'll ask him what he
thought of the home run derby. Center fielder Orioles, five
time All Star, four time Gold Glove Award winner, and
a guy who has been rumored to be in trade
discussions as well as the Orioles are trying to sell

(01:52):
off a bunch of pieces and rebuild. But um, there's this,
there's this narrative which I believe to be at least
mostly false, mostly false, and that's that baseball has a
Mike Trout problem. I saw this in the Washington Post

(02:14):
Ruler today, that Mike Trout only has a Q score
of twenty two. Many of you are sitting there going,
what the hell's acque score, which kind of makes the
point about what accue score is. But accue score is
a rating of sort as to what the overall knowledge
of who you are and what you do is. To
the mainstream public, there's a mathematical formula by which they

(02:37):
come up with your Q score. It is about as
accurate as the weather man is. On the other hand,
it brings up a valid point, which is, hey, Mike
Trouts the best player in baseball. He's been the best
player in baseball for about I don't know six years,
and even though he's a first ballot Hall of Famer
if he retired today, in his time, there are many,

(03:03):
we're told, who don't know who Mike Trout is. Now.
There's a bunch of things at work here. I don't
believe it's just as simple as well, Mike Trout plays
for the second best team in Southern California. Nobody pays
attention to him because of that, and that needs to change,
and baseball needs to change. And to steal from Rocky four,

(03:24):
the US can change, and use can change. Well, else
can change? Does Mike Trout play for the second best
team in Southern California that calls itself l a even
they don't play in l A sure, and is that problematic? Yep,
It's just like trying to build your brand with the Nets,
with the Clippers. It's hard. It's hard. Uh. Those of

(03:47):
us who are Angel fans will point out that the
Angels do have one thing that the Dodgers do not
since nine, that is a World Series title. Um. Nonetheless,
you cannot. There's there's no way to truly quantify just
how much more important in the overall sports landscape the

(04:07):
Dodgers are to the Angels. But simply saying that, hey,
he plays for the wrong team, Baseball has got to
get him off of that team. Oh yeah, and he's
gotta get him. They gotta get him in the home
run Derby has him in the home run derby. Bryce
Harper was this is a problem. Mike Troud keeps saying
he'll compete and he's got to and know Lebron wasn't

(04:30):
a dunk contest, But there are no We don't build
stars the way the NBA build stars. Got to change that.
I don't think Mike Trout is the problem. I think
Mike Trout is the manifestation of baseball's biggest issue. Look,
Baseball is still wildly popular, wildly popular. The Angels are

(04:54):
gonna draw three the Dodgers gonna draw four million people.
In southern California, you can see more, not less baseball
games on TV than you used to, and though the
national ratings aren't high, the local ratings are very high.
It's the provincial sports also a summer sport, and based
upon how the sports calendar works, there's so many things

(05:14):
that work against baseball. First and foremost is too many
damn games. Been new baseball game this year? How would
you like to go to eighty more? That's the That's
that's what you do. If you go to every home
game like a hundred and sixty two times of anything,
even that seems like a lot, hundred sixty two in

(05:37):
one year. It's it's insane. There are just just too
many games to keep up with the most important time
of their year conflicts with the beginning of football, which
has become a more popular sport. Even football's number are

(06:00):
struggling because there's too much football on TV. What do
you think is gonna happen with baseball on TV when
it's on a hundred and sixty two times? And then
it conflicts with football. Baseball also has struggled to promote
their stars, and though they've tried, they have more playoff
teams by creating a new wild card window that at
times can eliminate, it can backfire. That's what happened the

(06:23):
one time the Angels got to the playoffs. They had
the best record in baseball, and they lost to the
Kansas City Chiefs, who played in the playing game and
should have lost the playing game. Like, did I say
the Chiefs. It's the Royals, that's right, the Royals winning
the playoffs, the Chiefs losing the playoffs. Oh no, it's true, though,

(06:43):
it's very true, very sadly true. True. It's true. You're
sitting there, going they made a good point. There he
he screwed up, but then he came back and that
was really good. Look, Trout's not the problem. Trout is
the manifestation of all of baseball's issues. Right. Baseball is
kind of torn in that most baseball guys want people

(07:06):
to behave and perform the way Trout does. Ron doesn't
bat flip, Chard doesn't look at me. Trout is not
a Yahoo. Trot has a great spirit, great energy, comes
to the ballpark every day, plays hard, gets on base
nearly fifty of the time. He's he steals bases when
people aren't still is supposed to steal basis. He hits
home runs and he gets on base. He plays a

(07:28):
great center field like dude, he does it all. Five
tool player and the six maybe most important tool is
he's a great dude who everybody seems to admire, not
resent for his talent. But our culture in this country
sometimes sometimes focuses more on the look at me, guys.

(07:53):
Take a look at Bryce Harper right like today, Bryce
Harper is a hero dude. He's having a bet a
year and his team is underachieving, and he's gonna command
a contract upwards of three maybe four hundred million dollars.
But because he's a look at me, because he's a
headbend wearing flag flag waving dad who frankly didn't follow

(08:17):
the rules of the home run derby last night, he's
getting applauded like he's some American hero and you're like, man,
Mike Root should really be in the home run derby.
So some of the issue is on us as sports
fans that we we like conflict, we like dudes with issues,
we like egomaniacs, even if we have to point out

(08:39):
that their egomaniacs. All of these things are manifested in
the issue with Trout, who just goes out and balls
out every day and doesn't say a word. We want
him to be something he's not. He's not loquacious, he
doesn't give great quotes. He's better at his position than

(09:02):
Jeter was at his He just plays for the second
team in his market. But like Jeter, doesn't give you
much of anything. So if you want to tell me
that Trout isn't as recognizable as stars and other sports,
that's true. But that's true for all baseball players. If
you want to tell me that Trout is running the
issues because his team is not good enough, that's fine,

(09:22):
that's true. But the truth is that a lot of
people don't know who some of the Cubs are, even
though they won the World Series two years ago. Nobody
knows who nationally who the Indians are. So the the
it's it's not a it's not a magic elixir that
you go into the playoffs and suddenly now you become
a household name. If you want to tell me he
doesn't have a great personality, that's true, And Baseball takes

(09:46):
that out of some guys, but that's the way they
want their sport to be portrayed. I just think it's
fascinating the perception of Mike Trout as if baseball has
this Trout problem, where the truth is maybe Trout is
the answer, not the problem, and the problems are with
us and what we deem to be a success. How

(10:08):
much some some millennial on Twitter knows who you are
should not be the measurement of whether or not baseball
is getting it right. Summers here, which means it's time
to get the ball park. But without working a working

in baseball, arguably the best analyst in all of sports,

thoughts on Mike Trout, is there a way to make
the best player more known on main Street? And his

(11:18):
Gottlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. You know, there's a lot
of things that have been written about Bryce Harper's swing,
and um, Bryce Harper obviously hit the ball out of
the ballpark more than anybody last night. He's won the
home run Derby. It is it is fascinating on um,

(11:42):
not just the swing and the mechanics of it, rom
but but just the the dynamic of where he hits
the ball. You know, for so long, for so many years,
you were told to hit the top half of the baseball,
top half of the baseball. And if you look, uh,

(12:03):
Bryce Harper, whose dad, Ron Harper, erected a net in
his garage, start teaching him soft toss of course through
to him last night as well when he won the
home run Derby. Like their philosophy a long time ago
twenty years ago, was like, what why are we hitting
the top half of the baseball? Right? Like why why
do we want to hit ground balls? We want the

(12:26):
ball in the air, and in many ways ahead of
their time, ahead of their time because we were always
told like there's just many things to which we were
told in sports for the last thirty years that we

(12:46):
thought were right, which really are not right when you
look at the actual numbers to it. The reason people
hit try and hit home runs born baseball is the
analytics will tell you it's smarter, easier to score runs
that way. But you go back years ago, and you
know people would be rate big guys for suit settling

(13:09):
on jump shots, three point shots. Why are you out
there shooting threes? Get inside scoring a low post? They
tell guards work in your mid range game. Do you
know what teams don't do anymore? Don't score in the
low posts. Guards don't do they don't work on their
mid range anymore because the analytics would tell you they're bad.
Like maybe one of the untold stories of Harper is

(13:32):
the philosophy he was brought up with, which is no
longer hitting the top half of the baseball, which had
been taught for thirty years and and granted it's it's
not always effective, as he struggled in terms of batting
average so far this season he's had to the last
three years. He struggled at times. But it's a philosophy

(13:53):
that's been adopted throughout Major League Baseball, and the analytics
would tell you why, John Smoltster, and this of course, Uh,
you make sure and watch the MLB All Star Game
tonight on Fox beginning at eight p m. Eastern time.
Small to your entire professional life. People are taught to
hit the top half of the baseball. When did that change? Uh?

(14:15):
It changed right around the time where you just mentioned analytics,
and uh, the answers to the questions to the test.
You know, I think in this industry and in sports
in general, we have more information than ever before. But
that information, although yes you could probably hear it's absolutely
pouring here in Washington right now, is that it exposes things.

(14:38):
And when it exposes things, you try to deal with
the best facet of the game that has gone away,
And fundamentally, a lot of things have gone away because
organizations have adopted a philosophy that basically doesn't punish players
for not doing things that rewards players for doing the
things they want them to do. And I think long term,
it really does suffer the game. And I think that's

(15:00):
why the game and the Commissioner's office are looking at
different ways to to alter that. As other sports have
done when the game gets a little stagnant or the
game gets a little dull, and other sports have done it.
Baseball has just been slow to make certain adjustments. All right,
So what's what's the adjustment you make when when I
think the biggest season, you tell me if I'm wrong,
You call these games, you watch these games. The biggest

(15:23):
issue is that you know, what, what was it last year?
Thirty or four percent of the time, all you need
was pitcher, catcher, hitter because it was strikeout, walk or
home run. How do you and and the lulls in
between the actual action can be long, more so than
even the pitching changes. And I know some of those
issues can be worked through. How do you how do
you make an adjustment? Well, there's there's there's a lot

(15:46):
of ways. I mean, certainly teams are gonna zig. When
they zag, I think that organizationally, you can start making
that correction. Uh, just waiting to see who can do it.
But from a from a baseball concept, you know, much
like uh oster manipulation, some of that if you know
it goes through a season where thirty thirty to thirty
five pitchers per team are are starting to become a norm,

(16:09):
that that is just that is that's got to change.
I mean there, it's not all because of injury. It's
because of the style that we're adopting. And if you
allow teams to take advantage of certain rules and and
put guys on the d L that aren't even hurt
the ten d a d L and utilize the d
L and your roster manipulation, this is what you're gonna get.
Baseball is not really been meant to have eight pitchers

(16:33):
per team. Five pitchers per team pitch in a game.
But when you go in a cheaper way or in
a way that is more conducive for clubs to run
their teams, you're gonna burn. In turn, you're not gonna
care about six to ten years of player usage on
your team. You're just gonna get arms. You're not going
to develop them. You're gonna bypass some byproduct of making
great starters instead of now we preconditioned what a player

(16:56):
is and isn't. And I think you take and rob
the game of It's great about it. The pictures duel
the guys that that have done what they used to do,
and then the hitter batter matchup. Now you're talking about
the elite hitters are going to have to face three
to four pitchers per game, tougher to hit. And you
talk about the ships. The shift could go away, that
could there's a there's a there really is a lot

(17:18):
of ways that baseball could adjust to this that would
make it, um, you know, go a little bit smoother
and not play as long and to your point, not
have as much lack of action. Yeah, you know, how
do you think taking the shift away is a good thing?
I really do. I don't think there's a downside in it.
I think what baseball was hoping that would happen as
players would self corrected. How in the world, if you're

(17:41):
a baseball player hitting to twenty, you can be proud
of that and all you gotta do is adjust to
make teams stop shifting you. But no one did it,
because no organizations really punishing a guy for hitting to twenty.
It was an embarrassment ten years ago, you didn't have
a roster spot, and just trying to hit the ball
over the shift has become the philosophy. So guys are
lifting the ball more than ever. But if you reward

(18:02):
contact and you reward athleticism, we're taking away the athleticism
of players who play a position. No longer do you
really play a position with the amount of shifts there are.
So I don't see a downside in that. And and
I don't care if people are going to complain about, well,
you're taking strategy away. They did it in football, they
did defensively in basketball, they've done it in hockey. They've
made changes to open it up. And I think for baseball,

(18:25):
if it's not gonna self correct, then the entities to
be are gonna look at ways to corrected itself and
and start putting the single and contact back and play.
You mentioned one of every three or four at bats
has no action, and when that continues to increase like
it is, you're talking about three to four minutes in

(18:46):
between action per game. And I'll tell you that is
something that's got a lot of people concerned. John Smalt's
one of the great all time pitchers in recent memory,
starter reliever of course, also damn good golfer and as
good an analysts you'll see. You'll se him tonight calling
MLB on Fox's coverage of the All Star Game. He's
joining us in the Doug Otlip Show here on Fox
Sports Radio. Uh. The story goes maning Machado, we all

(19:09):
knew it was coming to a head that he'd be moved.
Looks like it looks like the Dodgers are going to
be his destination. Does that fix? You know, they lost Seger,
they didn't have Turner for the first kind of half
of the first half of the season, Kershaw was out
with injury. If that trade is consummated and it becomes official,
does that does that completely change where the Dodgers? Uh,

(19:32):
look like they'll be come to fall? Oh? Absolutely. I
always felt like that was the no brainer spot, especially
with court Court, the injury to Seeger, and the fact
that you know pretty much Machado is going to be
a free agent no matter where he goes. So I
I really believe that that's a five win advanced to
any team that gets it. That's five more wins. And

(19:53):
I'm not talking about war, I'm talking about legitimately, this
player can help you win five more games by himself
because of his ability offensively and defensively. So it's a
game changer. Just like on the other end, I don't
know if the Mets will ever do it. The biggest
game changer out there for pitching is the Grom who
if they were as someone was able to get to Gram,
you've you've made yourself an elite team, no matter who

(20:15):
he goes to. So that's how much Manny Machado would
mean to a team. Although be it for a half
or a little half, a little less than half of
a season, it's it's a lineup change, it's a defensive change.
And I think that the Dodgers, if they can come
up with a package that Baltimore's is suitable with, and
I think that is front running, Dodgers become the obvious favorites.

(20:38):
All right, let's since it's raining in d C and
we at the game is in d C. And Harper
won the home run derby. We we can't we can't
bury the lead in that here. The Nationals are a
very talented roster, arguably the best pitcher in baseball. A
guy was a first ballot Hall of Famer insurser based
upon accomplishment. Uh, you have Bryce Harper, you have some

(20:58):
other very good hitters in the lineup, and yet they're
stuck there at five. Is that a fixable situation? Very
much so. I hate to say that too much of
the blame um might fall on one guy, and I
don't think that's fair. But look, Steven Strassburg is so
good and he is so much of an impact, even

(21:20):
though he's a once every five guy. He makes that
rotation dangerous and he has to stay healthy when he
comes back. He has to stay healthy. It's not the
same rotation without him in there. And sures are of course,
and Geo Gonzalez and Rourke. This is a team that
is starting to get healthy, starting to get his feet
under him, and they're not going to just push a button.

(21:41):
I get it, you know, just because on paper, but
because they haven't had the complement of players that they've needed,
and the upstart Phillies and the Braves have been able
to roll in here and and and cause some panic
for him, I think it becomes increasingly difficult the longer
there behind those two teams. But I still maintain that
the Nationals are the team to beat. And I know

(22:01):
that might seem crazy, but uh, it's still the team
that has the most weapons and the team that if
they get healthy, they're gonna be They're gonna be top.
What is that noise? That is the downpour of a
huge thunderstorm that we are in right now. That's that's
amazing stuff. All right. Yankees are four and a half
back in the Red Sox. And I sit there and

(22:24):
I look at the I look at the Yankees and
obviously they can really really hit, but they're gonna need
some pitching. But how do you do you go out
and get an arm? Like if the Gram is not available,
what do you what do you do with the Yankees
in terms of getting pitching to try and load up
for the postseason. You have to get a picture, right,
They can't rely just on their bullpen and their offense.

(22:45):
They need another starting picture. And if they can go
get the top flight one, that would be everything. That
would be worth whatever they give up, and I mean
whatever they give up. But if they can't get the
Gram or synder Guard or some of those guys, you've
got to go out and get another accomplished arm that's
going to allow you to avoid a one game play
you don't want to. You gotta win your division, and
if you win your division, you become an elite team

(23:07):
that can go all the way to the World Series.
So I think the Yankees are in a nice position
with the mono basic prospects that they have to make
a game change or move and now is the time
because that offense is not going to win a World
Series by itself, and neither is the boat. Then, uh,
last thing, Smulty, before you get just dumped down with

(23:27):
all this rain, we discussed that there's been articles. The
Washington Post had one, other's had one on the Mike
Trout problem. Here he is best player in baseball and
yet not seen as a superstar, the kind of uber
elite star as in some of the other sports. Is
it as simple as he's got to get off of
the Angels and get onto one of these premier teams
or is there something else that you think has to

(23:49):
change in order for Mike Trout to be as well
known and respected outside of baseball as he is in baseball. Yeah,
I mean his personality is is what you would want
for every Every team would want a guy obviously like
Mike troutsafety obvious but I think you got to see
him in the postseason, and as the West Coast is
a little bit different of a flair for for most

(24:11):
people who don't get to see him on a daily basis.
But I promise you you get this cat in the
world in the World Series, and you get him in
the playoffs, and you see what he can do on
a national stage, everybody's going to opts absolutely no Mike Trout.
It's a shame that he's the best player in the
game and that we have to talk about him in
this way, whether it's lack of social media or certain
things which I don't particularly care about. And I think

(24:34):
you know, for Mike Trout and the and the and
the Angels, they've been trying to figure out a way
to get this guy in a winning situation. In the
playoffs situation, it's really not worked out at all for
the Angels, and it's a shame because they're losing out
on some of the best years we've ever seen from
a young player, and his attitude has been unbelievable, and
really it's it's what you build a club around. So

(24:57):
I think playoffs is something you've gotta see from from
Mike Trout could really appreciate the historic numbers he's putting
up in the regular season. There's one number that blows
my mind. Go ahead, and I don't get caught up
in a lot of different analytics stuff. I embrace it.
But there's he has in his entire career. Who gain

(25:17):
the most he's ever gone without getting on base? I mean,
just think about that. Two games in a row is
the most he's ever gone without getting on base. Says
a lot for Mike Trout. How about how about he's
been up with no runners on more than anybody else
in baseball? Right Like, it's the we we always used

(25:38):
to look at our bi when we were kids, and
now you're like, well, that doesn't make it doesn't make
any sense. Uh. The Hall of Famer John Smoltz in
um not exactly Chamber of commerce. Weather out there in
d C. Can't wait to hear the call. Can't wait
to hear the call tonight, we hope from d C.
Thanks so much for joining us, you got it. Thank
for having that's smart he's the best. I ran a

(25:58):
smart c at the Big Ten Tournament. Basketball's calling it
for radio, I mean one time. But remember he also
qualified for the US Senior Open. Just played in it.
Like what a dude. Hall of famer, great starter, great closer,
awesome golfer. Pretty interesting guy. Make sure you watch MLBL
start game to Fox eight o'clock Eastern time, five o'clock Pacific.

(26:20):
Gas Man is here, Dave Gascon. I'm hearing some sort
of breaking news in football. Yeah, I got some stuff
in the National Football League l A Rams have agreed
to terms on a five year contract extension today with
wide receiver Brandon Cooks. He comes over from New England
and last season with the Page That's Doug, he had
sixty five grabs for one thousand and eighty two yards

(26:41):
and seven touchdowns. He is now on his third team,
though since his rookie campaign, Seahawks Earl Thomas could be
on the move. Thomas posted on Instagram that he wants
set All to either trade him or extend him. He's
twenty nine years of age and he wants something around
twelve million dollars per season. This is the final year
of his contract and he will eight and a half

(27:01):
million dollars. The National Football League notified Randy Gregor the
Dallas Cowboys that he has been reinstated, but on a
conditional basis. Gregory has been suspended without pay for filing
the substance of Abuse policy season's January of two thousand
and seventeen, following a suspension of fourteen games during the
twenty six campaign, and then, of course, with levy On
Bell playing under the franchise tag for the second straight season,

(27:24):
his agent today said that he will be skipping all
training camp, but will be available for all those fantasy
geeks out there. Will be available for a week one
in this season. M alright, So Randy Gregory's back, yes,
just that on a conditional basis. So he has to
go through some protocol right now with the Cowboys and
of course the National Football League and NFL p A. M.

(27:47):
The nflp A thing is is interesting. Um who had
the report about Levy on Belt Ian Rappaport right, Ian
Rapport had this report. I appreciate the gas man, David
gas On. Um, from what I understand the see in
Rapports Twitter account rap sheet, I won't understand the Steeler's
final offer to running back Levyan Bell was five years,
seventy million, with more than thirty million over two years.
Last year it was five five years sixty million instead

(28:10):
he'll earn fourteen point five and another franchise tag. Alright,
So look, he's gonna end up making because he didn't
sign last year's deal, which had thirty over two instead,
And tell me if I'm reading this wrong, guys, what
do you make twelve million last year? So somewhere in
the neighbor to twenty six and a half instead of

(28:31):
thirty and and launched some sort of long term security.
So he's gonna take the four million dollar hit. Although look,
the smart thing would have been franchise tag last year,
get that and then two years of more guaranteed money
thirty million again, that would have given you a security
and it would locked you in this whole idea like
I want to be a stealer for life. All right,

(28:53):
we gave you a deal you'd be a stealer for life. Yeah,
so it was old point one last year. It was
fourteen points fourteen point five. This year that's twenty six
point six million dollars my math, Okay, I think it's okay. Okay,
So last year was yeah, So last year was all right,
ramos might that was gascon no problem. Last year was

(29:19):
five years sixty but thirty guaranteed. This year's five years
seventy over thirty guaranteed. And so now like now you're
the Steelers, You're like, look, dude, we're playing on a
house money. This is great. It does hurt the Steelers
against the cap more so than when you have a
deal with a big signing BNUS. What I think is

(29:41):
fascinating is, um, so many people are missing the point
or maybe missing We're we're missing even Levyan is missing
what they should be arguing for. The Levy on Bell
argument is no different than the um Jimmy Graham argument

(30:01):
of a couple of years ago with the Saints is that, hey,
I shouldn't be played like a running back. I shouldn't
be paid like a tight end. I should be paid
like a playmaker. Jimmy Graham. I'm more of a wide
receiver than I am a tight end. I shouldn't be
paid like a tight end. Levan Bell, I'm both a

(30:21):
running back and a wide receiver. I should be paid
money commensurate with that of a wide receiver. And you
know what, it's not a crazy argument, but you're making
the argument to the wrong people by rule by rule
in the NBA and in the in the National Football League.

(30:44):
By rule, if you don't sign, you're If you don't
sign your contract and you become a franchise TAGGI contract extension,
become a franchise taggy you or salary is roughly the
average of the top five salaries at your position. I

(31:07):
find it comical that NFL players want to break through
the mold because they think there's something more than they are,
when by rule and by collectively bargained upon rule, you are,
in fact, you are, in fact deemed to be a
singular position player. They keep getting into these ugly fights

(31:29):
with their with the teams that pay them and that
want to give them longer term deals. Instead, what they
should be getting in fights with is the NFL p
A and how the c b A is worded. That's
what should be happening, what absolutely should be happening. So

(31:52):
there's Levy on deal. You know, it seems like he
was offered a fair deal last year. Seems like he's
offered a fair deal this year. He chose not to
sign it. He's not apparently going to come to camp.
I don't think the Steelers are terribly bummed that he
won't come to Most of camp because you don't want
him to get hurt anyway. He just wanted to be,
you know, ready at the right time. But this I

(32:17):
should be paid at a contract commensurate with something other
than by position. Why are you arguing with your team
about that? That deal was agreed to by the nfl
p A, by the n f l p A. That's it.

(32:39):
So I mean, am I wrong here in music? And
that I don't? This is what you're arguing. You know.
It's like you get caught in arguments with the wrong people. Yeah,
I don't think that. Um, you get pulled over by
a cop, okay, and I'll give you I'll give you
a perfect example here by rule, in most states, if

(33:02):
you have your cell phone in your hand while you're driving,
in your hand while you're driving, and you pulled over,
they give you a ticket. Now do they have to
give you a ticket? They don't. That they don't. But
the rule is that if you have your cell phone
and I got into one of these with the with
the cop who pulled me over one day, I was like, look,

(33:23):
I couldn't get my bluetooth to hang up. I just could.
I couldn't get my bluetooth to hang up, and so
I'm pressing it, pressing it, pressing it on my actual
cell phone, and you just happen to see me pressing.
He's like, look, I'm not disputing what how you why
you hung up? But by rule, if I see you

(33:44):
messing with your cell phone while you're driving, I can
pull you over and give you a ticket. And so
what if I was Levy on bell? That's me arguing
the validity of that rule with the police officer instead
of trying to get that rule changed. And the difference is, well,
it's really hard to get a law changed in your state.

(34:06):
It's not that not nearly as difficult. When you have
this much better, ill will to go and say like,
hey guys, next time we do the C B A
or next time there's some sort of issue that we
can change on the fly, why don't we change on
the fly. The fact that when you're a franchise tagg

(34:27):
e you have to it has to be with one position.

you missed any of that, download the Doug Gotlip Show podcast,
it was a good Adam Jones five time All Star,
four time go global join us top of next hour.

(35:29):
Brian Kenny will join us next hour. Eric Dickerson in
the third and final final hour of the show will
get his reaction to um Brandon Cooks getting a new
deal with the Rams be forever playing a game. Of course,
that was part of the deal with He won a
new contract. That's why he was traded originally from the
Saints to the Patriots. They rented him for a year,
then the Patriots traded him. Let's get to a game.

(35:55):
This is game time on the Doug Guy leave shoomers here,
which means it's time to get the ballpark. Without a
working car battery, you'll be watching from the couch. Luckily,
AutoZone offers free battery testings. You can be part of
the action. With three services from AutoZone. You can't lose
getting his own auto zone have a gascon when he
got let's see we got what are the chances? What
are the chances? Asian war Danowski is back at it

(36:17):
yet again. He's reporting Kawahi Leonard is seriously considering participation
in next week's USA Basketball minicamp in Las Vegas. One
interesting note here is Gregg Popovich will leave the camp
as he is the head coach of our national team.
If this does happen, this will be the first time
we've seen Kauai play basketball since January. So Douga must ask,

(36:39):
what are the chances Kauai plays in USA next week
in Vegas? Uh? I think pretty good. I think really
good if he wants to play for USA bass. But
now Lebron isn't going to participate. But Lebron played in
the NBA Finals, he has a viable excuse, Like look,
if you wanna play for us a bad spoil, You're

(37:00):
gonna have to show up to training camp. I would
say that there's a forty five percent chance that he participates.
Now you would say, well, that isn't that pretty good? Like? No, No,
I mean like, I think there is still reason for
him not participate as part of negotiation, and he can
say that he's rehabbing. He can show up and not

(37:20):
actually participate, just kind to be part of the team,
but participation, I'd all right, fair enough. Major League Baseball,
the Union chief of Major League Baseball's player association, Tony Clark,
told reporters at the All Star luncheon earlier today that
the idea of adding a d H to the National
League is quote gaining momentum end quote. So, Doug, what
are the chances Major League Baseball makes this change in

(37:43):
the next five years? Oh, I think pretty good. I
would say sixty four percent chance they make this. They're
trying to increase offense there. You know, I like the
nationally game better, but there's spirit between the National League
rosters and American League rosters. The d H is a
at least a portion of the reason why. So I

(38:06):
think in the everyone else has changed their rules football
and basketball to increase offense. I don't see why baseball
wouldn't do the same thing. Now, you like the National
League said, but would you like this move? No? I
like National League Baseball. I like double switches. I like
real baseball. I don't feel like that. I like pictures hitting. Um,
I like all those I like the strategy of where
you put where you plays picture in the lineup. If

(38:28):
pictures can actually get on base I like all that stuff.
Got you, got you all right? Troll Owens, his agent,
told TSN Owens is still interested in return to the CFL,
adding he still feels like he has some football years
left in him. He just loves the game and wants
to get back to playing, whether it's in the CFL
or the NFL, So Doug, one of the chances Teo

(38:50):
actually plays a regular season game in the CFL the CFL,
I'd say there's a thirty five percent chance he plays
a regular season game in the NFL. There's a zero
percent chance. Um, this is you know, t O has
a he's got some mental and emotional problems where he
obviously probably needs money, he needs attention, and this is
a way in which he could probably get both, all right,

(39:11):
staying on the gridiron. Earlier, we talked about l a
Ram's wide receiver Brandon Cook's getting a five year contract extension.
But most people are wondering about their defensive star, Aaron
Donald and when he's gonna get a new contract. CBS
Sports NFL insider Jason lackin Ford twittered out, Aaron Donald
has some has told some people close to him that
he anticipates a new deal being done before camp opens up. So, Doug,

(39:34):
what are the chances Don gets his new contract before
camp does open up? Yeah? I think chance you got
all those other guys in a one year deal. Um,
I would guess that that Brandon Cook's signing a longer
term deal frees up some cap space. I think it's
part of the motivation to get some of these other
things done as a free up money before Aaron Donald.
I'm gonna go seven percent. This is game time on

(39:58):
the duck. Got leaps all all right? My Nay Machado
deal doesn't appear to be done yet, but appears to
be kind of imminent. There's been other rumors that Adam Jones,
five time All Star, four time Gold Glover could also
be dealt out of Baltimore. We'll catch up with Adam
Jones as he's sitting out of this All Star game.

I appreciate you joining us, Adam. Let's start with last night,
how would you What were your thoughts on the home
run derby. Um, I didn't watch. I didn't watch it,
so um slap me for not watching it. But uh,

(41:47):
from what I heard this morning that it was electrifying.
And um, I've seen the results in some of the
highlights this morning and that Bryce wanted So that's awesome
for that he wanted from you know, hometown guy. Um
want of the leading bolt getters. And uh, and I'm
sure that people had a lot of a lot of
good memories. I had a lot of family in town,

(42:09):
so we were just up at the pool, barbecueing out,
minding our business. Hey can I I said, this is
start the show. I didn't watch either, because because you're
you're not. You're like, honestly, you're not offending me. Some
people get super into it, and I just I just
don't like. It's not no disrespect to him or do

(42:29):
his dad, you know, serve enough taters for him. But
that to me is not really kind of what the
art of it. And I've I've seen enough home run
Derby's they go on long enough like they're cool if
you get into it, but it's not. I'm just not
into it. I think it's refreshing to hear. Uh, you
feel you feel the same. Um, okay, so were you
grilling last night or did you have somebody else grilling
for you? It was a team effort, you know. I

(42:52):
had the chef and myself. We ordered some food. Um,
you know, it goes a bunch of kids. We're just
trying to have a good time and get our minds
away from away from the game for a couple couple
of days and just try to have a good family
time and enjoy the kids, washing them swim. What's this

(43:13):
like for you going through a season to which the
O's are clearly rebuilding. Uh, there are a lot of
talk about people like you, people like Manny going elsewhere like,
what's it what's it like to beat your gather out,
your friends, your family. I'm sure they want to know
what you think of that. Do you say, hey, we
ain't talking baseball today. Do you allow people to talk
about it? What's what's that like for you? Well, the

(43:34):
thing is going to the year we were not having
a plan of rebuilding. I just think that how we've
performed in our records indicating that we're gonna have to
trade some guys and get some pros, get some young, new,
fresh chalel in here, which happens. Um, it's exciting. At
the same time, you know, we've had a really good

(43:56):
run with the group that we've had, and you know,
sometimes sometimes breakups happen. You know, free agencies looming for
I think four or five players, so things like that
have to happen, and it's bitter sweet. But as long
as the organization tries to put, you know, put some
good prospects, trade for some good prospects and some majorly

(44:17):
ready talent, then um, you know, hopefully the fan base
will understand what the moves are going to be made
and for the future. Have they Have they told you
about your personal feature? No, no discussions have been made
about my personal future. But uh, I know a whole
the majority of the cards, if not all of them.
So let's see what happens open the next two weeks

(44:39):
or even all the way to August. Lady first, because
the nonwaver trade deadline is also a very important day
to no question. I mean, look, justin Verlander obviously got
sent to Houston last year. Is that is that the
determinant is like, look, I don't really want to move,
but if you're gonna send me somewhere, it better be
somewhere where I get a chance to win the whole thing. Yeah,
and then where is the ship? Where is that place at?

(45:00):
You know, people say I want you to go win
the ring, but where's that at? There's no definite um,
there's an opportunity to get to the postseason and roll
the chance, roll the dice with some good guys, And
that would be the only way I would even propose
even to think of a trade, because it makes no
point for me to go somewhere and not be playing
in the playoffs. And you know, when you when you

(45:21):
control the cards, you kind of have that. No, just
control the cards, So just see what plans they have
you know hopefully. You know, I've said it many times
that you know, if they wanted to do something like
Chapman did where they Yankees trade him, but they got
it under prospect back in laboratory as then he came
right back. I mean, I'm not saying that I'm gonna

(45:41):
command the Glaboratoria's type of one overall prospect, but um,
for myself, child of Britain Brock, you know, I think
that the Orioles that they trade all four of us
or three of us, um, they should be able to
get back some prize talent because of the talent that
we're passing on to another organization. Question about it, Adam
Jones join his four time gold glover as well. I

(46:02):
want to ask you about metrics. Uh, some of some
of the metrics say, you know, look, you're not the
center fielder you used to be. People who watch you
every day, people watch you every day, like look, some
of it's about alignment. You know, the the Ohs play
you very shallow in center field, so of course your
metrics and getting the deep balls you're not going to
be as good. How would you personally evaluate yourself defensively

(46:24):
now as opposed to defensively in terms of you have
a sterling reputation, do you think you're not as good
as you used to be? Well, as you get older,
every game slows down to a tad. Um. I don't
like to make excuses or throwing anybody under the bus
and have regards because you know, it's known that it's

(46:45):
been a revolving door defensively in right field since mart
As is left. Should have signed Mark acas Um lets field.
We got training and seen me out there. He's my
trade of first baseman. He's playing left field for us.
He goes out then give his effort every single day.
So I respect that a lot of that. But he's
a first baseman and he's a first basement by trade.

(47:06):
But we have CDF first, so we won't just batting
the lineup. If when you can hit, you find a
way to uh to put you out there. Um, but
you know it's it's I played with a lot of
different guys over the last four years. UM. Yeah, I'm
not gonna say that. Whatever the numbers say, I'm not
gonna disagree with him. Um. I know I still believe
that I'm different go out there in place in the

(47:27):
field every day. Um, but at that same time, father
time is catching up. I get a little bit more
tired out there, just because you know, a lot of
endings wracked up a lot of time on my feet. Um.
But I's been a very advocate of if there's someone
that's better in the organization that's gonna come up and
stay up, then that will make the move to another

(47:48):
position a lot easier opposed to just saying let's move
you just because because when once someone is moves, um,
it's not like you can go back. So when you know,
I'm when Tory moved to write, he had Mike Trout
to solidify that. Now, I'm not saying we have anybody
like Mike Child, but if et Cedric Mullins comes up
and he's ready to play centerfield, he puts together good

(48:09):
at bats after that bat, if he's a man to
take the range of the leadoff header vol into the
futures interfielder, with all due respect, I'll gladly move if
I'm here. Um after this year, um, Adam Jones of
the Baltimoreals, All Star, four time gold Glover joining us
Doug Gotlip Show Fox Sports Radio. You know, essentially, you

(48:29):
guys have been a playoff team. Obviously, you know Zach
didn't pitch and um and and that's still I'm I'm
sure something that that that drives him, uh in in
a close out game. Um but you've you've been in
those games before, and you bring up Trout and there
are many that believe, Hey, here's Trout and he's kind
of in this abyss of being arguably the best player

(48:49):
in the game. But playing a team that's not a
playoff team, does he in two years, you know, push
to to move to a team that, uh is more
is more likely to make the playoff more often. How
would you like if you're gonna pull some of these
guys aside the man he's aside and what's really important?
How important is it to make a mark in the

(49:09):
postseason as opposed to just being a dominant regular season
player and doing the best you can with the organization.
That's a good question. I mean, right now, Trout is
for themselves in line of one of the greatest players
to every play simple as that. Um, he's he's like
paid Manning, minus the opportunity to get to the to

(49:32):
the championships, to the playoffs. I mean, but one thing
about the Angels and Mr Moreno is that they are
always active into looking in to try and better the team,
and they have the pay roll flexibility to be able
to go sign guys making fifteen to twenty plus million dollars.
We don't have that luxury. UM. I would love to
see Trout in the postseason. I think it's good for

(49:52):
baseball's He is the best player in baseball and you
can argue it, but's probably gonna lose it, um, but
he you know, he needs to be in the playoffs.
He needs to be on the biggest stage. She needs
to be uh in that situation, because that's what you
want to see. You want to see the game's best,
no matter what sport it is, in the post in
the postseason. You know, you see how good he is.

(50:14):
We want to We want to see that when it
really matters. We don't want We loved seeing it in June,
but I think a lot of us and not myself
included as a fan of baseball, I want to see
him play in October and a couple of years and
fourteen we had a chance to play against each other,
but they didn't make it through against Kansas City and
we had to face Kansas City touring to us, Adam

(50:36):
Jones joining us on the Doug Gotlip Show. You're still
excited about that? I miss your fifth All Star Game?
It huh, I'm not in it. You are already done five.
I understand. Do you still does it? Does it still
bring me? Because my my thought is this, when when
we grew up, you didn't have inter league play. Then
they had interleague playing. It was fun. Now there's the

(50:58):
inter league series every week, right, and every series there's
an ill League series, and and and because you can
watch the games on your phone or on on any
you know, if you really like baseball, you can watch.
There's not the same sense of hand never get to
see these guys play against one another? Does it still
does the All Star Games still have the lure that

(51:19):
it had when you were a kid, or when in
oh nine when you first made it. I do? I mean,
I'm still a big kid to it to this fact.
The things that have changed, obviously to the social media,
the popularity um behind it. You know, each team now
has during batting practice, you go to each individual teams
in Instagram, you can see basically everything besides the player showering.

(51:41):
That's how intimate and everything has gotten which I don't
personally like, but just part of the evolution of the
game and part of the social media and the reach
to the fans because they know they said baseball is boring,
so now the reach to the to the everyday fan
is increased. Um. But me, no, I'm I'm still a
big kid to this game. I treat it as a game.

(52:02):
It's very frustrating, obviously because we all want results in
the win, but sheer opportunity to play it. I still
approach it every single day as a little kid, you know,
like the first day when I got called up, and
I think that that's what I passed along to a
lot of my teammates is we get it. We're gonna
have families, We're gonna go to trials and tribulations off
the field. On the field, um, but once you're between
the lines, you've got a chance to be a big

(52:24):
kid and do something special. So take those three hours
to uh to try and do it. The last thing
I want to ask you, um, Opening Day this year,
you hit a walk off home run to win the game.
I think I think if there's one feeling, everyone would
like to know what that's like. Obviously, doing like in
the playoffs would be But to to hit to the
ball that ends a baseball game, Yes, what's that feeling like?

(52:48):
I kind of blinked out, you know, eleventh Opening day,
and that's the last thing I was thinking that was
gonna happen. I thought we was gonna win the game
at the ninth inning when scope pad bases loaded. Um,
but I was presented with another opportunity and uh just
came through. You know. It's it's surreal to be able
to play this long. Um. Some people take things for granted.

(53:09):
I have not taken these eleven years in the big
leagues for granted at all. So just you just have
to approach it like that, because one day it's gonna
come to an end and you won't. You won't have
all these cool clubhouses, the cool charter flights and uh,
you know, people screaming for screaming your name. One day
that's all gonna end. So just trying and take it all.
You know, I know I'm older now, but trying and
take it all and stride as I did when I

(53:30):
was a twenty five year old, and trying to just
appreciate as long as I can. That's pretty awesome. That's
that's really amazing. Um. Okay. For every tweet Instagram posted
this tag hashtag hats off for Heroes, t Mobile will
donate one dollar to Team Rubicon throughout the entire regular
MLB season. Is a veteran lead disaster relief organization that
works throughout the United States. Why did you want to

(53:53):
be involved, uh with this relief fund? Well, I mean
a military family. My dad twenty two years and my
other seventeen years. So anything that's with the military, it's
definitely gonna hit home. Um. I have a lot of
friends that are in service right now and have served,
got back home and told me stories of you know,

(54:13):
told many things I never thought that out here, and
they've told many things they've seen that they never thought
they'd seen. So to be able to support my friends
and family and you know, countless not just Americans, but
people who fight for everybody's free up for their respective countries. Um,
that's important, and I respect I said it was the
last question. I lied. I gotta ask you this, how
do you maintain this balance? Right? Like, look, do you

(54:36):
make a lot of money. You've got a lot of
the claim the numbers would sit put there with anyone
who plays your position during this period of time. Five
all stars, four gold gloves. Um. And yet everything I read,
everything I hear, everything I see is like, here's still
a regular dude, Right, You're still maintained kind of the
balance of being a father, being a you know, being

(54:58):
a guy. But but that's not everybody. And you understand
even in your sport, that's not everybody. How do you
maintain that the balance? My wife does a good job
at home, make sure that I'm as stress free as possible. Um,
I got my brothers and cousins who stay on me.
They aren't they aren't the yes man around me on

(55:20):
in society. Um, I just got a good balance away
from the ballpark. And I understand when I'm at the
ballpark is yes, sir, and you know, whatever can I
get you, Mr Jones and all that kind of stuff.
But at home is shut up. You go clean that up,
and the revolt the roles are reversed. So it kind
of creates a very good dynamic and a very good balance.
So when I go home, you know, I'm just a

(55:41):
regular regular person. I'm just dad and husband, and uh,
that makes it very simple. Kind of sounds like you.
You moved in on the cooking last night after you
weren't happy with whatever's going on with the grill work.
That's just kind of what it feels like to be
Uh yeah, listen, enjoy your time off. It's well deserved
and let's let's catch up in the second half the season.

Kenny from the MLB Network joins the show. Up coming next,
I'll get his thoughts on Bryce Harper last night and
in the likelihood Manny Machado has been moved today. That's
upcoming next. But first, you know, if you use true car,
you can easily find the car that you want. What
kind of car are you looking for? Newer used. It
doesn't matter. What you do is you go to True
Car and they have something called true price. Essentially, it

(56:47):
gives you the comps pick the car that you want,
and you'll understand what the market says. Right, if the
market market says, hey, you should be paying twenty grand
for a car across the board, it has all the accessories,
all the Texas, everything included. Then you hit up a
True Car dealer and there's over fifteen thousand True Car

(57:08):
certified dealers station wide. True Car users on average save
three thousand off M s r P. They set their
prices competitively because they know that you're using True Car.
You know of the true price. They're not gonna fool you.
You're not gonna fool them. You want a deal, They
want to make a deal. Really, is that simple? Men?
We used to walk in and used to haggle. They'd

(57:28):
say that cost this much. You'd say this much. Hold on,
I'll go back to my my sales manager. I'll be
back for a second. You'd sit in there that uncomfortable
conference room. It took forever to go back and forth
just to negotiate the price that's gone away because of
True Car use True Car and their true price. And
they have over three million cars that have been sold

(57:49):
to True Car users via the True Car Certified Dealer network.
So when you're readed buy a new or used car,
visit True Car. You're gonna enjoy a more confident car
buying experience. Remember, some feature is not available on all states.
Car shopping can be confusing with terms like dealer price,
liz price, an invoice price. True Car shows what other

(58:09):
people paid for the car you want, so you can
recognize a good price. When you're ready to buy a
new or used car, Visit True Car. They enjoy more
confident car buying experience. Doug Gotlife Show, Fox Sports Radio.
Rob Manford, the commissioner Major League Baseball, is on the
Dan Patrick Shortler today. I don't I think I saw this.
He said they'd eventually had to get to thirty two teams. Um,

(58:31):
that would be smart only in that it would eliminate
this nonsense of interleague play in every series. It's just
not great. The problem with expanding is you gotta find
the markets right. Vegas was named Portland's, Nashville, Charlotte, Montreal,
and Mexico as potential homes. Um alright, so let me

(58:57):
ask you music, music studience, and the phone is probably
probably Brian Cannon. As you, Ramos picked the two you
think most likely destinations from Major League Baseball. Of those,
was that six that rob Banford proposed, Vegas. I think
Vegas definitely one. I don't know if Vegas is one
saturated with the NFL and the hockey end. I I
think it would be you'd have hockey, you'd have NFL,

(59:21):
and then you'd have Major League Baseball, which it's a
lot of nights in Vegas, and I know that the
population and you've got the destination. You gotta build intoor,
outdoor place. There's also altitude, so it's gonnaecue the numbers.
I don't know. I feel like Nashville is a nash
Vegas is more likely. Portland has been an incredible sports city,

(59:43):
not just it's it's important to note not just for
the NBA. Also MLS is seeing incredible success with the Timbers.
I would say Nashville, and then everybody's saying Montreal. The
problem in Mexico is not there's money there. It's a
vibrant market that you want to expand to. The problem

(01:00:04):
would be it's really dangerous to live in Mexico City.
I mean it just is super, super dangerous. Brian Kenny
part of MLB Networks All Star Game coverage from National's
Park today with MLB Tonight airing before and after the
All Star Game, which is on Fox. We talked to
Smoltsey and it was pouring rain. As the rain stopped

(01:00:25):
yet not completely. It's much better, but it's not torrential,
which is a vast improvement. Um, are you at the
park right now? Yeah, well, I'm in a trailer next
to the park. But I mean it I may have
flash flooding in d C. Like is the is the
field and bad chap they had covered. I'm sure like
this isn't gonna be like in terrible shape? Is it? No?

(01:00:48):
I don't think so. It's funny we were talking about that.
You know, I think you're old enough to to remember
the time when because I'm old enough to remember Shase
Stadium back in the seventies, like when it rained anything
near like us, there's no way you could play. But
like modern drainage is vastly different. They don't play in
puddles anymore in Major League Baseball. So no, that's not
that's not seen right, now is something that will be

(01:01:09):
an impediment of the game. Uh, let's let's go to
last night. Obviously, Bryce Harper, not just that he's plays
for the Gnats and he's a big name in Bryce Harper,
but the way in which he came back and won
that thing, it seemed like a good night, good night
for baseball. I'm not over selling that in any way,
am I. Oh no, it was absolutely it was. You know,

(01:01:30):
it's exciting. You know that the new format has put
it new life into the whole thing. You know, the
derby it's got you know, it's akin to We talked
about this a lot. Uh, you know, slam Dump competition,
So there's real similarities. And when you have it, of course,
it's fantastic when it starts, and then after a decade
or two obviously and gets stale. It's been totally revitalized

(01:01:52):
now and you have these one on one matchups. Uh,
that can be exciting. I mean I just thought there
was no way Bryce could you know, could catch up
and beach Warber last night. And we've had a few
of these duels through the last few years since they've
refamped you know, the whole the whole thing. So it's
it's more exciting than ever and I think it can
continue this way, and it moves quickly. You never feel like,

(01:02:13):
oh my god, this thing took all night. Doesn't feel
that way anymore. Bryan Kenny joining us in the Doug
Gotlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Why can't they
get Trout in it? What's that? Why can't they get
Trout in it? I don't know. You know, it's like,
why can't you get Michael Jordan in the Slam Dug
competition every year? You know, I don't think guys want

(01:02:34):
to you know, it takes a lot of energy and
you gotta want to do it. Yeah, I mean, like, look,
we we started by talking about you know, there's several
articles about does baseball have a Mike Trout problem? Right,
which you know is the idea behind the Mike Trout
problem is um is like, look, you and I know
Mike Troud. He is as good as anybody who's ever

(01:02:55):
played this game. And I think the Q score thing
is off. You know, there's lots of like Ques scores
which are all over the map. But the fact is
he's on a team that's not coming in the playoffs.
He's on the second team in l A. He doesn't
have a big personality. Um, and and at some point
that he does have to put himself out there, like
for the betterment of baseball, is there, Hey, you gotta
be in this thing because even though you've been the

(01:03:17):
All Star Game m v P, this is something that
a younger generation will watch and we got to build
this thing around you. Is there any of that sense? Yeah? No,
no, no no, you're you're being completely fair and you're right. Um.
I think that push has been you know the last
few years too, with World Baseball Classic, which didn't seem
as cool until the last one when the US one
and a lot of our top stars did play. And

(01:03:38):
for this No, yeah, you're right now, it's hard. There's
there's a lot of part of what makes Mike Trout
Mike Trout is that he really streams lines. He streamlines
his life and he does what's best for his playing,
you know, his day to day playing. He doesn't like
to let it be bogged down. He doesn't like to
get distracted. And and as you know, dougu these guys,

(01:04:00):
they're being pulled in many directions all the time, and
that's kind of how you lose your fastball, and so
I give him credit for that, while saying to you
as well, yes, should he do the home run derby?
Yes he should. All right, there's a story out there,
several stories out there, and that Machado is going to
end up with the Dodgers. This has been overly discussed

(01:04:22):
for the last two months in Los Angeles. You know,
the diving back suddenly popped up. Others have popped up
as a possible destination. Let's say the trade does officially
get consummated. What does this due from your perspective to
the Dodgers. Well, I think it effectively replaces Corey Seeger. Uh.
And that's the main thing. Like without you know, when
they had Seeger. Like if they had Seeger, that be

(01:04:43):
no upgrade anywhere. They have a Seeger in turner on
the left side of their infield. So I think it
makes sense for the Dodgers to get that three month
rental and get a short stop who can slunk five fifty. Uh.
There's actually a few of them around now. There used
only a few years ago there was nobody you could
do that. But I think it puts them right back
into the mix. They're already a division leader They're already

(01:05:03):
quite good, but the Cubs are better, and I think
this puts the Dodgers back closer to the Cubs at
the top of the National League. What about the Gnats?
You know, here the Gnats are and I know they've
got some guys that that have that are living a
little bit on reputation, a little bit tired, but they
still I mean, they got unbelievable pitching at the top
of that rotation, and they have some unbelievable hitting in

(01:05:25):
that lineup. What's your sense of how fixable this Gnats
team is? I you know, I don't know it's there now.
I mean, I like their chances. It's getting late. You know,
this All Star Game is not at the halfway point.
We're well past that and they're at five hundred, so
they're puzzling. I'm with you, um, But if I had to,
like if I said, hey put ten bucks down, not

(01:05:46):
of them into betting, but hey put your money down
on who wins that n L East, I think I
would still go with the Nationals. They just have way
too much talent and if they don't and well, at
the end of the Bryce Harper era, anyway more than likely.
But it will really kind of just signify real disappointing.

(01:06:08):
You know, Strasburg Harper era, where they did a lot
of winning and where they were always less than the
sum of their parts. Yeah, that that feels like the
Tigers of What was the Tigers of I'm gonna say
two thousand twelve or two thirteen right where that you
look back, you're like, man, did the Tigers has some pitching? Man?

(01:06:28):
Did they have some hitting? How many World Series they win?
They didn't? You know? And I understand that, you know,
four or six years getting the postseason but not advancing.
You know that there is some randomness to the playoffs,
and especially they've been beating in some incredible elimination games.
But I do think we look back on this last
couple of years of the Nationals roster much like we

(01:06:48):
look back on those thirteen Detroit Tigers and think what
should have been? Uh maybe more than what could have been. Yeah,
you're absolutely right. I agree with you. I've said that,
like if you look back a few years ago at
to us that Tiger's rotation, but like the whole what
they put out on the field, they were that was
a super team. Um, but the Nationals are it's in
a way, it's worse like the Nationals. At least they

(01:07:11):
lost to Big Poppy with the Grand Slam in the
in the championship series, and you know, they it looked
like they were gonna be moving on. They could have
been the best team in baseball that year. These Nationals,
they've never won a series. And I'm with you on
you know, I've been you know, pounding this drum for
twenty five years, like the right the in the playoffs,
in a one week series, anything can happen. But again,

(01:07:33):
you put it all together, you know, they win you
know games, nineties six games, ninety four games, something along
those lines in the years they did win, and not
one series one in the playoffs. It's just yeah, it's odd.
It's puzzling. And normally I say that's not a thing,
it's just the way it happens. But when it happens
over five six years stretch, when you're that stacked where

(01:07:55):
one year I remember saying I think they're gonna win
a hundred and five games that that, then it becomes
a thing. It's a thing's officially, uh something went wrong
yere Okay. Then you have the Mariners, to which the
actual record makes no sense when you look at the
run differential, right, they've they've lost four in a row,
so it feels like they're coming back down to earth.
But there's still nineteen games over five in spite of

(01:08:17):
the fact that they have a negative run differential. So
one of the things that you taught me, you and
Chuck Wilson taught me a long time ago we're working together,
is like, look, run differentials are much much greater determined
for who you are than what your record is. When
you win one ring one win games one one run
games that ultimately water finds its level. What is there?
What is there? What is their evening app point? What

(01:08:39):
if if they're we're gonna aggress to the mean? What
does the mean for this Mariners team as we come
down the stretch. Yeah, I think they're a good team.
I think they're good defensively, which will uh, you know,
help you in a lot of ways that you don't
see that aren't obvious. Um, so they're a little better
than we thought without Robbie Cano. I mean, I thought

(01:09:00):
losing Canoe was a death blow. Um, you know, but
Mitch Hannegger is better than we thought. Uh. Zannino has
been able to stay decent offensively. So they have a
lot of good players. They're a nice team. They play
with a lot of energy. But there, you know, are
they better than the A's. I think they're a little
better than the A's, but not much. And now they

(01:09:21):
got them right on their heels, so I think they
have a certain you know level, They're good. They're a
good team. Without Robinson Canoe, they definitely lack that that power.
And again in the American League, like there, I'm just
battling them with you know, the A's and if anybody
else emerges chasing that second wild card. But when you
talk Yankees, Red Sox, and um, even the Astros obviously,

(01:09:45):
and even the Indians, who I think are gonna get there,
they're super teams roaming. So you know, we saw what
happened when they played the Yankees. They played good baseball,
it was exciting, but the Yankees wiped them out, and
I think that's what ultimately happens to them. Uh you
mentioned Yankees. Obviously they have add some pitching, even that
might not add up. Uh. Look, no one knows historically

(01:10:06):
baseball as well as you. There's there's like five guys
who I'm like, I trust, historically, how good is this
Red Sox team really? Historically? Yeah, it's it's monstrous. I
mean the hitting alone is really what makes them. Now
they're pitching and their their bullpen, it's good. Uh, they're
a little top heavy with the rotation, that's normally a

(01:10:27):
good thing. But the lineup itself, I mean I didn't
anticipate Mookie Betts slugging six nine. Um, you know, best
case scenario is what j D. Martinez is doing now
for him even though he's been excellent, Like he's actually
crushing it. Benintendee is an outstanding player. They're just this. Yeah,
I'd have to run the numbers, but it's probably I

(01:10:49):
know it sounds crazy, but it's probably something you could
put right up there with the Manny Ramirez, big Poppy
Johnny Damon, you know Red Sox when you know it
was really Red Ox versus Yankees and then there was
like another league that needs them because they were so stacked.
That's what we're looking like now again in the playoffs. Um,
Red Sox Astros, it's pretty even. So I don't know,

(01:11:12):
I was still kind of would rank them Astros, Red
Sox and Yankees. So even I think they're historically great.
I think the Astros have already shown they've got you know,
their their pitching rotation is like the sixty nine Orioles,
seventy Orioles, and they're they're hitting is still historically great.
So like we're in an era of super teams where
I can say, yeah, that the Red Sox. You're right, Um,

(01:11:33):
there's very rarely teams that slug like this club, and
yet they might be the second best team in the league.
That's that's really, really, really really markable should shape up
for great playoffs. Manfred came out. Rob Manfred, a commissioner
Major League Baseball, came out and said, Hey, they'd really
like to get to thirty two teams, like to give
sixteen a side. That'd be great, just because I think
the Inner League thing every series, I think it's awful. Uh,

(01:11:56):
it loses kind of the luster of what Inner League
is at it at its best. Um, And so he
threw out, what Charlotte, Portland, Vegas, Montreal, Mexico City and
Nashville b K. Give me your your top two most
likely to get a team. From your perspective, I don't

(01:12:17):
really have um any special insight into this just from
you know, covering it on a regular basis and hearing
about it. But I think the fan bases um in
Charlotte and Portlands have been at the forefront for a
long time. I'm hearing a lot of good things about Nashville.
It comes down to, you know, can you support a
major league team? And I think the answer for the
last ten fifteen years has been yes. By the way,

(01:12:40):
here's I always throw this in. I know it's not
even being floated, but like New York could support a
third team and you know for pop that's crazy. Well, no,
it used to and and it absolutely could again. But
beyond that, I think those I think it's you could
easily expand and have healthy fan bases in any of
those cities. The problem, though, if you do the Charlotte

(01:13:02):
thing is don't you kill the minor leagues? Yeah? Yeah,
well there's all sorts of other consequences to get into. Yeah,
I'm I couldn't speak to all of that. It's just
like in Montreal. You know, Montreal did for a number
of years support a team very well, and then there
was some really lean years, but that was that was
a while ago. Now it was a very different era
when attendance was seen very differently. Um because I know

(01:13:26):
people who are hard you know, really behind Montreal. They're
they're very much into it. I don't know if they
have the breadth of it. Obviously they don't have the
same um yea, the same basis of of love of
baseball that we do in the United States. But there
is a hardcore constituency that is really behind getting it
back to Montreal. B b KA enjoy tonight. I know

(01:13:47):
it's a great night for celebrating baseball. Space suport. You
love so dearly. Thanks for joinings mean let's catch ups.
By the way, Brian's gonna be part of MLB Networks
All Star Game coverage National's Park Today, MLB Tonight before
and after the All Star Game. The great Brian Kenny
b kay, thanks again man, take care. Doug Pleasure is
always mind to talk either baseball or the sweet science

(01:14:09):
with Brian Kenny. Here's what we're gonna do. Uh, let's
we'll we'll get let's get you an update from David Gascon. David,
what you got We'll start things off in the NBA
Doug agent war Janowski reports are Laider today, kauhad Leonard
is thinking about participating in Team USA's Mini Captain next
week in Las Vegas. Head coach of that team, Great
Popovich Steph Crew will not be in attendance for Team US,

(01:14:30):
say in case anyone's curious. Cavaliers have way. Kendrick Perkins
or Janowski back at work. Also reports Sacramento kings Or
trading guard Garrett Temple to Memphis in exchange for Ben McLemore,
Deonta Davis, some cash and also a second round pick
in twenty one. Just given back Deyonta Davis and Ben
McLemore too high first round picks like here, somebody please

(01:14:52):
take take them bribing him with that cash. To National
Football League News, some interesting things here, Randy Agery has
been reinstated by the league. Dallas Cowboys player. Obviously, He's
been reinstated on a conditional basis, though he has to
go through some protocol with the NFL and also the NFL.
P A. Gregory had been suspended without pay for violing

(01:15:13):
the Substance of Abuse policy back in January seventeen. Following
a suspension of fourteen games from Rams have extended Brendan Cooks,
the wide receiver five year contract extension worth eighty million
dollars Seahawks Earl Thomas. He could be on the move.
He had had posted a message on Instagram that he
wants Setl to either extend him or trade him. He's

(01:15:35):
on the final year of his contract. Doug, back to you.
Online car shopping could be confusing that any more. With
True Price from True Car, now you know the exact
price you'll pay for your next cars. Visit True Car.
You'll enjoy more confident car buying experience. Is it a
bad idea for the raptors to trade for Kauai? We'll
discuss next Broadcasting live from the studios of Fox Sports Radio.

(01:15:56):
Here's Doug Godlieb. Car shopping can be confusing with terms
like dealer price, liz price, an invoice price. True Car
shows what other people paid for the car you want,
so you can recognize a good price when you're ready
to buy a new or use car. Visit True Car.
They enjoy more confident car buying experience. Doug Gotlip Show,
Fox Sports Radio. It's interesting we talked a lot about

(01:16:22):
Mike Trout. Now people the idea that mainstream people who
don't know who they like listen. Maybe it's me because
I got a little boy who plays baseball and loves
Mike Trout. But I don't know. Baseball is still a
huge participation sport, and any kid who plays baseball knows
who Mike Trout is. Right, I'm not the only one
who thinks that. It's like, well, I don't I don't

(01:16:42):
watch Mike Trout play baseball, so other people must not,
Like yeah, it's not really the kind of the case.
But anyway, uh, every day, this time, we'd like to
play for you a portion of a previous show, TV radio,
or otherwise on Fox Sports, Fox Sports One, Fox Sports Radio.
We call it. Chris Carter part of First Things First,

(01:17:05):
was on earlier today. He had this to say about
the potential for Kawhi Leonard to be traded to the
Toronto Raptors. For Kauai, it says that money is not
his number one motivator. He believes in his heart of
hearts that in Los Angeles he'll be a happier person
that's playing basketball with the Clippers are with the Lakers.

(01:17:26):
He spent most of his time in the San Diego area.
He loves that area. Kauai is not the type of
person that by the external things that he's motivated. Actually,
last week he went to Vegas. It was too chaotic
for him. He planned on staying longer. Left after one
night there um with some friends. So Kauai is not
the normal superstar where he's looking for the limelight. He's

(01:17:48):
looking for the at tension, or he's looking for those
Max dollars. You can call me, don't call Kauai. Call
me and I'll let you know. He's not going to Toronto.
So all these three team scenarios things like that, Yeah, okay,
like all that sounds good, but the player has said
that he's not going to play. It's not a Paul
George situation. I have warned people. Uh that's that's Chris

(01:18:10):
Carter from Fox Sports. And first things First, this from
Brian Windhorse on Adrian ward Zanowski's podcast. I think they
the Raptors are in the driver's seat for Kauai because
I think the Lakers have given up, the Sixers have
given up, and with the Nets, Bulls Hawks spending their
calf space it makes it harder to assemble a multi
team trade. I think the Raptors are in the driver's seat. Again,

(01:18:31):
all of this comes down to whether or not Kawhi
Leonard will play for the Raptors. The Raptors may have
the best offer out there, but it doesn't really matter
if it's not like I ain't gone, which makes next
week even more interesting. They have a training camp in
Vegas with USA Basketball Pops, the coach, obviously. Pop going

(01:18:55):
down to San Diego to meet with Kauai was not
just about the Spurs, but also probably about USA Basketball,
to which I'm sure Kauai said like, hey, look, I'll
still play for you. You gotta get this thing done.
So deadlines bring deals, and that's one kind of soft
deadline that could be hardened because there's gonna be no Lebron.

(01:19:17):
Do they want Kauai there, will Kauai participate. Chris Carter
is pretty locked in on this. The these sources here,
and you can tell me I love this idea. What
Chris Carter is a football guy, he doesn't, dude. We all,
when you've been in this business for ten fifteen years,
we know people across a bunch of different sports. That's
just the way it is. I tell people all the time.

(01:19:39):
First person I ever heard say, now, it was in Miami,
but it was done was Chris Carter and it was
a week before it was announced for for Lebron James.
I can tell you things gonna go on in baseball
and in football because I've been doing this a long time.
You crossover, You get to know people, They get to
trusting you and you should, and they want their information

(01:19:59):
out there. Chris seems to know what's going on with
Kauai and Kauai saying not feel in Toronto. The the
fascinating part is Kauai is a low profile guy. And
I do think whether you're playing with Lebron or not
playing with Lebron, you can't keep a low pro in
Los Angeles. But it's hard to do so than you think. Yes,

(01:20:22):
it was, I was almost thinking, and I obviously could
be completely wrong on this. With the big cities like
New York in l A, obviously there's a ton more
people and if you are a star in that city,
you know, like a Derek Jeter or something like that,
and then you sort of can take on a bigger
than life type role. But with so many like celebrities
and rich people and famous people, can't you kind of

(01:20:46):
duck undercover and and be like you're not quite on
their level. Yes, yeah, of course you can. You can
totally be kind of what you can just you know,
you can live. There's play of spots. You can live
where no one knows where you are, even if they
know who you are. You're like, look, I'll just say
this about Kobe Bryant. He lives probably about ten minutes

(01:21:08):
from me, and Kobe goes i know, the Starbucks. He
goes to school as kids go to and though he's
still Kobe Bryant, like he removed himself from Los Angeles
and he just kind of lives a normal life to
where no people don't bother him. That's why it does it.
You can absolutely do that in southern California if you
want to. Now look, if you want to live in
the heart of it where Lebron right now lives, that

(01:21:30):
changes things. You want to be a part of it.
You can. Sometimes you can get caught up in arguing
the right thing to the wrong people, right the right
thing to the wrong people. It feels like that's what's
happening in the NFL, though one of the arguments is

(01:21:50):
a winning argument. You're winning against the people who can't
really help you. That's a coming next to the Doug
Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. What up, Doug Gotlave Show,
Fox Sports Radio. You can make the wrong argument to

(01:22:12):
the right people, you can make the right argument to
the wrong people. We're on that in a moment. This
is the Doug Gotlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
Got some good stuff for you. Eric Dickerson is going
to join us UH in twenty minutes. We'll talk to
the Hall of Fame running back about a bunch of
things Rams re signed or actually they redid the contract right.

(01:22:38):
They extended the contract of Brandon Cooks, who they just
traded for from the New England Patriots member. The last
time we saw Brandon Cooks he was nearly decapitated in
the in the Super Bowl. I mean that was a
harder hit and the guy's head just I was. It
was terrible. But anyway, Brandon Cooks is now a RAM Like.

(01:23:00):
Oh I knew that he got extended today, what does
that mean for Aaron Donald? You want to talk about
a dicey path the Rams super talented, but a bunch
of guys on one year deals with the exception of
a wide receiver who has yet to catch a pass
from Jared Golf. We'll talk with Eric Dickerson about that

(01:23:22):

See the difference. You can make the wrong argument to

(01:24:07):
the right people, or the right argument to the wrong people. Right.
It's like, um, sometimes you go and you want to
talk to your congressman, or you go to a school
board meeting and you throw out an idea that you
have and you have no idea about all the kind
of inner workings of it. Right, It's it's like our school.

(01:24:31):
I don't know ra most of your schools like this
our school obviously we don't have a nice neighborhood. And
the reason that we moved to this neighborhood is the
school system is good. But like the playground is, it's
all asphalt, so it's super hot, you know. The the
hoops are like metal hoops with metal nets. Unforgiving. Um,

(01:24:54):
I want to get a Gaga cord on. If you've
ever seen Gaga, they play it back East should be
more grass, Like, we should just redo the playground and
you have all of you. I live in an area
where there's lots of guys that do construct, own construction companies.
They can find subs and there's ways to do it.
And so I emailed the principle and I was like, hey,

(01:25:14):
can we talk about this, Like the foundation has been
unable to get a new playground put in. He's like,
do you have any idea of the red tape in
state of California. You're making the wrong argument to the
right dude, Like, I want to make this thing happen,
but there's all these steps you have to go through
in terms of the school board and the state board

(01:25:37):
and safety. And I was like, man, I was overwhelmed.
Then you have what Leviyan Bell is trying to do.
Levian Bell wants to change the way in which we
view running backs. Right, Levan Bell signed a franchise tag
with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Given me franchise tag this year

(01:25:59):
with pittsburghs. I'll make fourteen point five million dollars. The
reports came out earlier today that Levian turned down a
deal that was essentially uh thirty a little bit uh
north of thirty million dollars guaranteed over the first two
years five year deal some total of like seventy million dollars.

(01:26:23):
All right. Uh. The Steelers also came out and apparently
leaked information saying, look at slightly more than last year's deal.
Take a listen to what his agent this, levey On
Bell's agent. Take a listen to what he had to say.
His bacari excuse me, a decent bacari. He said this
on serious x M NFL radio. But first it should

(01:26:44):
be noted that lady On Bell is not a running back.
He's learning all the receiver positions as well. Sometimes the
player transcends his designation his position, and I believe that
that this certainly is the case. Two things I think
made this deal more complicated than normal. One is that
resource allocation board, where again le Beyond certainly should not

(01:27:07):
be looked at as a true running back because that's
not what he is. And then too, because of historically
how the Steelers construct their deals, we couldn't find a
scenario that would ensure le Beyond the level of protection
from a guaranteed standpoint that made sense. Mhm. So there's

(01:27:28):
two different arguments there. One is one is the length
of the guaranteed contract and what offers protection after the
next two years. Right, players want guaranteed deals. So NFL
teams like, look, well, guarantee a thirty million dollars. So
somebody like Levyon like, look, I want to be guaranteed
in year three and year four because that's when I

(01:27:51):
get to twenty nine, thirty years old. The NFL team
doesn't want that, but they want to retain the rights
to Levy on Bell in case he's will has a
lot of gas in the tank. But they wanted to
be non guaranteed rights. That way they get out of it.
They get out of it. That's the essence of NFL deals.

(01:28:11):
Anyone who says there isn't guaranteed money lying. It's just
not fully guaranteed the length of the deal, and the
NFL teams completely understand that. In addition to the fact
that your skills diminished with age, the chance of injury

(01:28:32):
is so incredibly great. Don't believe me. You won't be
seeing Cliff Avril play this year in the National Football League, right,
will you? Cliff Avril? And who's the other? Um? Uh?
Cam Chancellor and kill Cliff Avril are retiring from football.
Ryan schas Here will never play football again. This this

(01:28:56):
idea that there's some public sentiment that's behind NFL players
getting fully guaranteed contracts. But we're all aware that, dude,
you're one hit away, one hit away, one injury away,
and it's it's not basketball level injuries. Basketball injuries. Guys
come back from football injuries. Some of them you do not.

(01:29:20):
You just don't um. And then there's the other part,
which is the you can make the right argument to
the wrong people. Ads Bakari said, Hey, here's a guy
who transcends the running back position. He should break out
of this scale to which you make the average of

(01:29:40):
the top five at your position. But you're making that
argument to the Pittsburgh Steelers instead of making that argument
to the NFL p A and saying you want something
to hold out over, you want something to fight for
in the next collective partner agreement. Here's something to fight for.
How do we put a laws in this c b

(01:30:01):
A that allows players who transcend their position play multiple
positions to end up benefiting from it. It's a hard one.
It's a really really hard one because yes, he's paid,
uh like a running back. And you could say, well,
he wants to be paid like a wide receiver. That's
actually not the case. That's actually a lot. Do you

(01:30:21):
guys realize that, right? He doesn't want to be paid
like a wide receiver. He wants to be paid like
the best wide receiver. That's the lie that that so
many are telling you, because not all wide receivers make
upwards of million dollars a year. They don't what what's
the Brandon cookstal Do you guys see the numbers yet?

(01:30:43):
You know Brandon Cooks is a take the top off
off a defense sort of wide receiver. Did you guys
see it? Yeah? It's five years and eighty million dollars.
How much is it guarantee? They haven't released the guaranteed
figures yet so that it plays into the whole Aaron
Donald thing. Well, look um, the Patriots didn't want give

(01:31:05):
him a guarantee, huge guaranteed deal. But the idea five
at eighty would equal out to what is it? Uh,
five for fifteen is seventy five, right, So that's sixteen
seventeen million dollars a year. The fourteen is sixteen, which
is massively overpaying him. On the other hand, let's see

(01:31:28):
what the actual guaranteed money is. I'm guessing that number
is far lower than that. The point is that Levian
Bell's attorney agent has has an absolute point, which is like, hey,
why do you have to be paid like a running
back when you do more than when a running back does.
My argument be, actually, the top level running backs all

(01:31:49):
do that. You can sit here and go like, well,
he runs routes like wide receivers, so does Todd Gurley.
You're not watching the sport. You're not being honest with us.
I want to be paid like a wide receiver. You
want to pay like the best wide receivers because he's
not one of the best wide receivers. Or do you
want to be paid like a slot guy, which makes
less than twelve million dollars a year. You've got to

(01:32:12):
decide here. And oh yeah, by the way, you're arguing
with teams over a structure to which the teams don't
set up. That's set up in the collective part agreement.
You know, you get a parking ticket, You get a
parking ticket for something like you don't believe it should

(01:32:33):
be illegal parking, Like, well, that's stupid. Shouldn't be illegal parking?
State holiday? And you know that the the guy who
drives around that those awful one of those awful cars
that are only for people to give out tickets, like,
I mean, that's low end of the total poll. You're
on double secret probation if you're a police officer. You're
driving around Look whatever that car is called with just
two wheels, you know, one in front, one and back.

(01:32:55):
I mean the that thing would get dusted in a
race by uh a mailman's car, right dust in the race.
That's like zero to sixty in hours in that car.
And so he's rolling around he's like giving tickets because
it says expired. He knows he just gotta do it
because the state needs their money. And you and you

(01:33:15):
want to come and argue like, how dare you give
me a ticket? Like, sir, look the meters expired. You're
arguing with the wrong person. You're probably right, I probably
the ticket shouldn't be for eighty dollars. It is a
state holiday. But by rule, I have to give you
a ticket on this day. That's my job. I'm being filmed.

(01:33:36):
You know, you get this all the time, like, hey,
I'm being I got I got body cam. You walk
in anywhere and somebody wants to give you a deal,
but we got cameras up there at Starbucks. I'd like
to give you a free drink because somebody screwed it up,
but I got cameras now on me. I can't do it.
You're arguing, you're making the right argument with the wrong guy,
making the right argument bout Levy on Bell wanted to
break through the structure of the NFL with the NFL teams,

(01:33:57):
Like you're making the right argument with wrong people. Yes,
right music. Well, according to Levy on Bell's argument, um,
did you know that Russell Wilson is like the most
underpaid quarterback in the NFL because he should have got
like eighty million dollars last year for being the Seahawks
entire offense. He's there, he's their quarterback and their running back,

(01:34:18):
and there he's he was what was it like of
all of their offensive touchdowns? So if I'm Russell Wilson's
agent and if this deal with levy On goes through,
I'm going I want eighty million dollars a season for
Russell Wilson because he is the whole offense. M a
lot to get to today. Summer's here, which means it's

(01:34:40):
time to get the ballpark. Without working car battery, you'll
be watching the couch. Luckily, AutoZone offers free battery testing
so you can be part of the action. With free
services from auto Zone, you can't lose getting the zone.
Auto Zone. We'll ask one of the all time grades
Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson, get his thoughts in the
levy On Bell contract situation. And if Aaron Donald he
is going to be happy about Brandon Cook's getting paid

(01:35:02):
before he ever plays it down for the rams that's
up coming next. Car shopping can be confusing with terms
like dealer price, Liz price, an invoice price. True car
shows what other people paid for the car you want,
so you can recognize a good price. When you're ready

(01:35:22):
to buy a new or used car, visit True Car
and they enjoy more confident car buying experience. Doug Gotlief Show,
Fox Sports Radio. So many things to get to here
in the world of sports. SPS tomorrow, All Star Game tonight.

(01:35:46):
T O was t O's agent saying he might play
in the CFL. Wow, this guy is no clue at all.
He just does just's no clue at all. I mean
t O having no clue, Like, what are you doing, dude?
I don't understand. I don't understand. I mean, I guess

(01:36:09):
I do, but I don't. If you've been out of
the NFL for eight years, eight years and nobody's calling, like,
isn't that a moment to which you kind of like
check yourself. You're like, wait a second, maybe it maybe
it's over. Yes, John Robins, By the way, I agree
with you. If you've made it to the NFL Hall

(01:36:31):
of Fame or the Football Hall of Fame, which is
obviously the pinnacle of playing the sport of football, why
did you need to play anymore? You've already got to
the Hall of Fame. It's like you should prove any think, Hey,
I better play the CFL to show him I can
still like you've made it, You've done the pinnacle. Just stop,
just live your life and have a great time. I
don't know, it doesn't make any sense. I agree with you.

(01:36:53):
None literally makes no sense. I mean, look here, I'll
explain it to you. He doesn't have many real friends.
I don't believe he's married. I think he was, he
had I think he was married for a short period time,
had that reality show, and he's not. He doesn't have
anything else. He can't get on TV consistently, Like he

(01:37:16):
just kind of burned a lot of bridges. Kind of
a troubled dude. And so the one thing he's probably
thinking himself, Hey, the one thing I can do is
I can still run. I can still catch football. The
crazy thing about t O is he never really had
good hands. Go back and look at the numbers. He didn't.
He had a lot of For a guy who's deemed
a superstar, he had a lot of drops a lot.

(01:37:37):
But he was so big, such a dynamic playmaker, and
he can still run. So I guess look in t
O's world, he's like, look, I can still run, I
can still catch I still have value. I can still
play football. It's probably that's the only place to which
he feels normal and stable in the entire world, and
lots of people do that. I read the story to where, um,

(01:38:00):
Brent Musburger is going to be the play by play
voice of the Oakland Raiders. Now, look, if you grew
up watching Brent Musburger, people young people think of Brent Musburger.
YESPN you forget he used to rule the world. When
he's at CBS back in the day. He used to
call the big NBA Finals. He was the host of
the NFL today he was. He's lived several lives, but

(01:38:22):
he's in his mid seventies and he's doing stuff in
Vegas at the casino with their own you know, Vegas
Sports and Gambling Network, whatever that is. And so you're like,
why didn't he just like retiring because that's probably where
Brent Musburger is most comfortable, right, That's where he's most comfortable.
He's most comfortable behind a microphone at a ball game.

(01:38:47):
It doesn't make it right. I mean, dick Enberg at
the end of his career, remember he walked in, who
was the play by play guy? Had worked long time,
got to be the play by play voice of the Padres,
and Nberg walked in his like, hey, look I've I'd
love to work, and you know he's dick Enberg, like
what are you gonna say no? And you say no?
So he goes and you're like, why does dick Enberg?

(01:39:09):
He's got everything, got tons of money, so much respect,
and like why not just live in San Diego because
guys just they don't have anything else. The only difference
in Edinburgh was in his seventies. Musburger in his seventies
is you know forty is seventy for an NFL player?

(01:39:32):
I mean I have no Like, you know, Farve is
tinkered with media stuff and I'm sure he would have
loved to do like money in football. He's just not
you know, I like listening to Farve talk, but you
know he can mumble and not concentrate, not focus in
like it's just a kind of an art to it.

(01:39:52):
I mean, I mean, like, like, look, bred Farve win
five years the starting quarterback of the Packers without knowing
what the difference in a dime and nickel and regular
fourth three coverage was. Do you think he's gonna be
able to break down? Like break down a modern day
NFL defense and all the different personnel on it. Probably
not or more than anything, Like I think there'll be

(01:40:13):
something like out football he can figure out like he
could figure out football. I think you can figure out
actually broadcasting. But do you think you can figure out
like running a business? That was the thing. That's the
thing about Kobe. That's interesting because a lot of people
in basketball thought when Kobe retired, they were like, man,
what's Kobe gonna do? Because Kobe was just He's just

(01:40:34):
all about ball. He had anything else. He would just
do ball and go home and do ball and hang
out with his wife and his kids, and then like
he lived. There was no like Kobe didn't have other interests,
which is fascinating because now he does. Right now, he's
working on books, he's got his Details show, he's got others,
he's got the movie projects, and he's tried to fill

(01:40:57):
his life full of stuff because you can't go you
can't go to do ball anymore. But I think that's
what it's about. I don't think it's about anything other
than that's probably the only real place to which he
feels stable and normal and healthy emotionally is on a

(01:41:18):
football field. But it always when they when they come back,
it always ends poorly. Michael Jordan got hurt when he
came back, and Jordan is a guy that has diverse interests,
you know, but he tried to come back and play.
I mean, I think one reason he tried to come
back and play was the Wizards were in such bad
shape that he wanted to help his own investment and

(01:41:39):
just come out and say I can do it. And
he actually was considering his age, he was actually very
good all the considering that age. Like, compare him how
effective he was that like Dirk at this exact same age.
It's not comparable. So I don't know. The t O
thing strikes me as um half sad, half kind of

(01:42:01):
I told you so, right, get to David Gascon, find
out what else going on in sports table what he got,
and well, Doug will start things off from the National
Football The big news out of l A, at least
for the time being, Brandon Cooks gets a five year
extension from the l A Rams five years on the
deal worth eighty million dollars. Last season with New England,
he had one thousand a two yards and also sevent

(01:42:23):
t d s. Seahawks might be losing Earl Thomas. They
might be extending him. Either way, he wants something done immediately.
Thomas posted on Instagram that he wants it all to
do something with him, either extend him or trade him.
He's twenty nine years of age, Doug, and he's making
eight point five million dollars in the final year of
his contract. The NFL notified Randy Gregory the Dallas Cowboys

(01:42:44):
that he has been reinstated, but on a conditional basis.
Gregory had been suspended without pay for violing the substance
of Abuse policy back in January seventeen, following a suspension
of fourteen games in twenty sixteen. In the NBA Step
Crew will not participate. Peyton Team USA is Mini captain
next week. Adrian Wardnowski's reporting Kawhile Leonard is thinking about

(01:43:05):
participating in it, and coach of the team right now
for Team USA is Gregg Popovich or Jowski is also
reporn the Sacramento Kings or trading guard Gert Temple to
Memphis for Ben McLamore, Deonte Davis, a little bit of
cash and also a second round pick in twenty one. Doug,
that's it for now. Appreciate their David the gas Man.

(01:43:27):
David gascon with us throughout the week, of course. Uh,
that's Dan Buyer is filling in for the Gorman boys
who follow this show. Let's welcome in the Hall of Famer.
One of the all time greats, Eric Dickerson joins us
on the Doug Gottlip Show. Uh, Edie, we we were
talking about Terrell Owens. His agents come out and said, hey,
he wants to play, maybe even in Canada. I think

(01:43:50):
this is one of those he just doesn't have anything
else in his life. How how hard was it for
you to walk away? Uh? You know what, It's always
hard because you know you're doing something that you love.
You've been doing it since you're a kid. Um, you know,
like the first I could say, three or four years,
it was very difficult. You know, I have to retire
because of the injury, and you you want to keep playing,

(01:44:13):
but you can. Um. You know. I feel while you
get used to it now, I couldn't even imagine playing
football anymore. But I think those first couple of years
it's very difficult. I don't even care if you're doing media,
you know, because you don't it's still not the same
camaraderie is going on that football field. Keep me here
to play a football game or basketball game or baseball games.
It's not the same, no question about it. Um, what

(01:44:33):
what's your take on on t O and what he's
choosing to do during the Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Well,
do you know I've told you this before that you
know I support too no matter what you do. You know.
But I talked to him about it. I told him,
I think that that you're going to regret this, uh
if it's twenty years from now, you know, And I said,
you may not say it to uh someone else, which

(01:44:55):
I think in your heart of hearts, I think you'll
you'll regret it. I think you'll say, man, I wish
I would have win. But you know, c O feels
like he's been slidding. And I asked him, I say,
if you got the first battle he got called the
first battle, what did you win? Then? Don't lie? I said,
you all would to win. I said, well, what's the difference, man,
I said, Now you're giving him the platform and say,
see this is why I told you. This is this

(01:45:16):
even though we all know. I mean, let me tell
you something. Players know who can play, and players know
who can't play. I mean some of some guys in
the Hall of Fame that are questionable. I mean I
was just I'm not saying nobody's name, but when they
get here, like, what's so for him? I mean, but
it's guy and the guys I felt right now, like
ko my desta manly. It's no question that these are
Hall of Fame guys. But you know you can't make

(01:45:37):
everyone hasty, does Brandon Cooks just got paid from the
l A. Rams. That's part of the reason that he
was originally traded from New Orleans, and it's fully the
reason the Patriots decided to move him because he wanted
a long term contract and they didn't want to get
him a long term contract. The Rams do, which which
makes a lot of sense for their cap and and
because they like what what he can bring to their offense.

(01:45:59):
On the other hand, they still have Aaron Donald who
still wants a new contract. How does that work in
the Rams locker room where you have a bunch of
guys on one year deals. He got Aaron Donald who
was upset about his deal, and he got Brandon Cooks,
who hasn't let it down to the Rams getting a
new deal, well, I think that they they see the uh,
the possibilities for For for Brandon Cooks, I mean I
think I think you can bring a lot of this

(01:46:20):
football team. I really do. I mean he's a guy
that's not just fast, but he runs very good routing
and that's important being received ain't even catch the ball.
I mean, for as Aaron Donald, that's gonna happen. I mean,
you want to see an happen sooner then later, but
it's gonna happen. You're talking about the defensive player of
the year. He didn't even go to playing in the
camp last in the last two years, the best defensive
player of the National Football League. I mean, I'd like

(01:46:40):
to see if it didn't happen, somebody would love there
with other teams that loved that. But but that that
that's gonna happen. And you know, I think we looked
at the Ram football team as a whole. We have
a lot of we have a lot of moving parts
here because they have these guys. A lot of these
guys haven't played together. So you know, in getting a
big contract is great, but you gotta go out and
perform for it. Also Okay, let's let's get to you
the levy On Bell deal. So levy On Bell's argument is, hey,

(01:47:05):
I do more than just run the football. I'm a
wide receiver, UM, a ride receiver, and a running back.
And my argument would be twofold one Eric Dickerson joining
US Hall of Fame running back s Doug Gollip show,
Fox Sports Radio. First part of the argument would be,
He's not wrong. He does do more than just run
the football, but all the best running backs, the top
five running backs the league, and Todd Gurley does more

(01:47:26):
than just run the football. Secondly, like you're arguing with
teams about your value when that franchise tag value that's
set by the collective Barton agreement, that something should be
taken up with the NFL p A in terms of
where his salary falls in line with the top five
players that his position. What's what are your thoughts on
levy On and what his true value is? I agree

(01:47:48):
with you what you just said is to be taken
up in the collective bargain agreement. I agree with that.
I feel like they I'm always to the player. Know
that I'm always to the player, you know, But I
still say this much year. One thing about the Steelers
of the he was a known for making good offers.
I mean like really good that maybe that might not
be great, like way over the top, but it's gonna
be a fair offer. I think the offers fair. But

(01:48:08):
I'll say this it much. This is lady on his career.
You know, if you can't never spend another man's money
and tell another man how to play, do do your career.
So for him as a player, you know, I think
he's doing what he thinks best for him. I mean
the last for two years, he's made with over twenty
five million dollars. So I mean in a sense, when
this when it's time, if he played this, this franchise
tag out and he created, he didn't get what he wants,

(01:48:30):
you know, but because still still relatively be a young man.
But as a running back, you only have so many
hits and so many carris in your bodies. True, it
is true. And he and he gets the ball. It's
like a it's a catch twenty two. He wants the
ball a lot, but he gets the ball a lot,
and of course it wears down his body, which wears
down wears down his value. How do you balance that

(01:48:52):
out like he is gonna get fourteen a half this
year he got twelve point one last year. Doesn't end
up winning this deal at the end of the day.
As long as he doesn't get hurt. At the end
of the day, he wins this deal. I mean, he
really does. Look when in nineteen eighties six, I tried
to get John charl to do that same deal for me.
I mean even I wouldn't make it but two dollars,
and I wanted to. I want to be a paid
a million dollars. I said, look, I bet on myself.

(01:49:13):
I'm willing to bet on me, and he turned me down.
So I mean in the sense, in the sense the
Steelers are saying, okay, cool, you know, you know, they say,
still have that franchise tag on it. But I mean, hey,
I think that in the in the in the big
scheme of things, and if he doesn't get hurt, and
that's always up and or. But I think he wins this.
I think he wins in the long run. But you know,

(01:49:34):
in a sense, you know what does if he leaves
the Steelers, I think he loses because that team him,
that offensive line fits him. You know, they know him.
He knows them. He'll go someplace elf and he will
not be the same guy. I just I believe won'ta
be he gonna be. He won't be the lady on
that we've seen for these last the ti years in
his career. Uh, Earl Thomas wants to be dealt or

(01:49:56):
get a new contract. You know, they they've lost, uh
you know, two of the legion of boom and retired.
Richard Sherman's now in San Francisco. So I mean, like, look,
it's a shell of what it used to be. And
last year, as you know, the Rams went up and
just smacked them around as clearly clearly a better football team.
That was just they just embarrassed them on their own field.

(01:50:18):
What do you do if you're Seattle. I mean, they
didn't really fix the offensive line in the draft. You
still have Russell Wilson, You've got some pieces that are
still got a pretty good linebacking corps. What do you
do if you're Seattle with your old Thomas situation. Well,
you know, first of all, they still haven't gotten over that.
People got lost to the pages. I'm telling you that
still haunt them. You know, you do what you have

(01:50:40):
to do. I mean, it comes to a point where
I'll get old. I mean you were not man, I
want to admit it, but all of us get old.
You ever, I did new pieces, and that's what's happened
in Seattle. I mean everybody's there. You know, Russell Wilson
still there. Old Thomas is there, but you know he's
not there. In offense, you have to start looking new pieces,
new players, developed a new players. Some of the players
did that you draft two years ago or bringing these players.

(01:51:02):
That's when it comes down to see, I was very
fortunate to have the run. If they have for so long,
it's like the Patriots, I mean the Patriots of you know,
the best team in football. But I'm just saying, when
you've got when you've got a hot one for a
little five or six years, you have to ride it.
You have to know this that soon or later it's
gonna come to an end. And it's gonna coming end
for us for the Seat Sea Haws, just like like

(01:51:23):
any other football team. Eric Dickerson, Hall of Fame running
back Edie, thanks so much for joining us. We really appreciate,
we really appreciate. Hey, I'm sorry to call that late.
No no, no, no, no, no, I forgot all about it. No,
you got this. You got this great thing where it's
at u c l A right tonight where you have
the Charity Challenge Celebrity basketball game. You got it. I

(01:51:44):
never got an invite. Who happened? Was that too good?
In the in the NBA celebrity I was the last
I was a last minute call. That's but like that,
I just got I just got in by a couple
of days ago. So they don't feel like that. All right. Well,
it's for Roger Daltrey and Peter Town's and Who Cares
initiative Team Cancer America. That's tonight at Famous Polly Pavilion. Uh.

(01:52:07):
Tip off is at seven, doors open at five. Eric
Dickerson to be signing autographs the entire time. ADI, thanks
for joining us, Okay, thank you man. Pleasure is always
always mine. Great guy, very interesting fellow. And uh, it's
pretty awesome to a guy like I grew up watching
Eric Dickerson play for the Rams as a oramos did

(01:52:27):
as well, and like look when he played in the NFL,
like he had he he did not have a great
relationship with the owners or with the coaches, but everybody
respected him. And like even like now he has enough
perspective to understand what why, to tell you why he
did what he did, and even if he was wrong
at the time, Like he's like, yeah, I was wrong
at the time, but I was like twenty years old,

(01:52:48):
was the best running back in football. Like he couldn't
tell me anything back then, but an out A call
a guy like that a friend is kind of the
awesomest part about a job like this. Online car shopping

(01:53:33):
All Star Game tonight on Fox. I think you guys
listening enough to know I'm a huge Mike Trout fan.
Um I saw this where if you combined the war
totals for their careers of Mannie Machado and Bryce Harper,
it would equal out the war total for uh, Mike
Trout in his career. It's crazy, right, Um. I look,

(01:53:58):
I don't know the accuracy or or validity of this
because I did see it on social media, but it's stands.
Career war for many Mecado is twenty point four. Career
war for Bryce Harper is twenty six point nine. So
if you combine those two, that's roughly what twenty nine
plus six is fifty five plus the thirteen, so fifty

(01:54:24):
six point three. Do you know Mike Trod's career war
is fifty six point three? I mean, that's insane. That's
how good that kid is. And he is an absolute
joy to watch. Could not be better dude to watch

(01:54:47):
play play baseball, plays hard, he has great energy, He
doesn't take forever. You know, It's like some of these
dudes like let's go already, let's go oh nope, he
gets it done. But the point is, um, he's awesome.

(01:55:10):
And I've read several articles Washington Post an article alert
today that said baseball has got a Mike Trout problem.
Best player in baseball transcendent superstar, first ballot Hall of
Famer and his Q scores only two, meaning nobody knows
who he is. And look, I kind of I kind

(01:55:31):
of get the base but I kind of like that
Baseball is like, hey, we're gonna keep doing our baseball thing.
And played the baseball fans and see how that goes, Like,
I don't do you want to speed up the game? Yeah?
Do you want to start changing and tinkering with the
he Look, John Smoltz brought up a great point. I

(01:55:53):
don't love the idea of getting rid of the shift
because you can hit it the other way, you can
bunt to get on You just gotta work on it.
I mean that's like saying, well, you can't make Monogen
Nobly go right even though he only goes left. You
can't pressure up on Steph Curry's jump shot, all right,

(01:56:15):
you you can't. You can't keep Russell Wilson in the pocket,
even though he's incredible when he gets out of the pocket.
But the point he made was, hey, look, basketball, you
know you have they've changed with their with the illegal
defensive rules, They've had the defense different rules that have
evolved over time. The NFL has changed their defensive rules.
Why can't you change the defensive rules for baseball, but

(01:56:39):
for for baseball. I don't think he's the problem. I
think he's the manifestation of problems. They do have problems
with the fact that it's can be it's a very,
um very regional sport. No one in New York cares
about the l A teams. No one in l A
cares about the New York or Boston teams. They just don't. Baseball,
though regionally very very popular, you still get people to

(01:57:01):
watch their networks to go to their games. Also, Mike
Trout isn't a big celebratory guy. He hits home run,
you don't see him bat flipping or doing a cart
wheel down the first baseline. That's a baseball once. That's
the manifestation of their issues. Yes, Ramas, do you think
he'll end up like Machado in two years when he
gets to his free agent time, where he'll be on
a team that's mediocre to blow and they're gonna either

(01:57:24):
trade him before they let him go for nothing. I
don't think so. I do not, um I personally believe.
I don't think the Angels are that far away. I
could be wrong music. Do you agree or you disagree?
I mean, like, look, part of it is if you're
an Angel of Vein that the injuries eleven guys, eleven

(01:57:45):
pictures on the d L, I mean, it's how many
times can they be snake bitten like this? Yeah. The
thing that worries me about the Angels is just with
the way the astros are set up. They have a
lot of young talent. Now, I know they're always comes
a day when they're gonna all have to want to
get paid, and then that could eventually back up break

(01:58:05):
them up. I don't think the Angels are terribly far away.
I do think they have some young arms, but I
don't know. It's it's one of those fallacies where you're
kind of like, ah, like, like what we talked about
with Chris Paul, like, well if he was healthy, well,
if he was healthy, well, if they were all healthy, well,
the more the injuries stack up amongst the different pictures,

(01:58:27):
the more I'm not necessarily convinced they're all going to
end up coming back healthy and living up to their
full potential. No, no question. Um, Look you got in there,
you know. I think David Fletcher eventually will be kind
of their everyday second basement, right, that will happen and
they have you know, Kindler, Uh looks like a guy
who's thirty six, So Fletcher is only a twenty four

(01:58:48):
year old kids. I don't want to get into angel talk,
but with with terrible injuries, with Albra pool Holes still
being able to hit, but basically being washed up, they're
over five right now. So with a little injury luck
and a little bit better pitching, their playoff caliber team

(01:59:09):
really feel that way. The press gave a gas Com
what he got. Let's raised through a few things. Doug.
In the National Football League, Grandy Gregory, on a conditional basis,
has been reinstated to the Dallas Cowboys. He has been
suspended without pay for violently a substance of abuse policy
since January seventeen. Dougi's five years of age and he's

(01:59:32):
only played a grand total fourteen games in his professional career.
This is basically his last shot, right, yeah, yeah, yeah,
Let's see if you I can't get right, dude, let's
se if you can get right. Oh, this is a
perfect segue. I don't even know if I should say this,
but speaking a perfect shot, Ryan and I were actually
talking about this at the break arison to Cardinals general
manager Steve Kim put a guilty to extreme d u I.

(01:59:53):
According to court records, kimes blood alcohol content was point
one nine, that's more than twice the legal limit. Violation
was listed as an extreme d u I'm the charge
with blood alcoholic content is above point one five, and
we just found out moments ago Cardinals have suspended him
for a grand total of five weeks and find him
two hundred thousand dollars. How much do you make and

(02:00:17):
have the idea that's just that's pretty substantial five weeks
for a general manager. But point one nine is I
got hit by a guy who blew a point to four.
I mean he was, and I talked to him at
towards and he was can't even talk. I mean, lucky
didn't kill somebody, no doubt. Um. Extreme d u I
is a Class one misdemeanor and a conviction can result

(02:00:37):
in thirty days in jail. Uh NBA news agent Ward
Nalski reporting today Kauhi Leonards thinking about participating in Team
USA's mini camp in Sin City next week, and of course,
the head coach of that team is none other than
Greg Popovich. Yeah, he's thinking about it. In other words,
this is the I like to play. Figure out how
to get me to l a before then that's what
that's that's that would be the difference. And also like

(02:00:59):
he's healthy, he's guard. You touched on this earlier today
we would also report the Sacramento Kings or trading guard
Garret Temple to Memphis for Ben McLamore, Deonte Davis a
little a cash and also a sick around pick in one. Yeah,
Deonta Davis course came out a year after one year
at Michigan State. Obviously Memphis loved him so much they
got rid of him and then back to Ben McLamore

(02:01:20):
goes back to a team that used him as a
top five pick, I think top ten pick back in
the day. He's back in Sacramento. Two guys who have
not achieved what people thought they could do. Do you
remember Chris Lieban no the Crippler, no long time UFC
veteran Chris Leeban's coming out of retirement to fight fellow
octagon veteran Phil Barroni in October twenty and a bare

(02:01:42):
knuckle boxing match with the world bearer knuckle fighting Federation
in Casper, Wyoming. You know, I didn't think that bare
knuckle fighting existed. Then you told me he was in Casper, Wyoming,
and I said, I'll buy that. I'll buy that back.
Get out there, press. That was the press. Uh. Will

(02:02:03):
you watch the All Star Game tonight, John Ramos go,
Yes you will, okay music. Will you watch a pitch
of it? Yeah you will. Yeah you watched last year.
I watched at least a pitch of it. Yeah. I
watched a couple. I watched an inning or two. I'll
watch an inning or so of it. That's about all

(02:02:24):
I got for um Man the All Star Game. I'm
just an anti All Star eight. What can I tell you.
It's in the middle of the season, so the season
hasn't really played out that every team has a representative
to participation trophy thing like. But I do like the
Jets go overhead and I like the Trouts plane Stug
