Speaker 1 (00:00):
Congratulations on two things coming off of last night. Number One,
I felt like that was a win that we needed
to have just to kind of write the ship a
little bit. And number two, you get yourself the game
winner in the shootout.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Good for you.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Yeah, thank you.

Speaker 4 (00:15):
Yeah, we haven't had too much success in the shootout
this year, so it was nice to get a win
in that sense. And yeah, we blew a three to
nothing lead and then blew a four or three lead late,
so it was nice to come on top with two points.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
And you know what, I'll tell you what though, Dylan
going at the very beginning of the game, especially in
that first period.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
I I don't know what was.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Said before the game or if it's just internally of
you guys going, you know, hey, listen, we're on a
three game skid, which is the longest of the season,
which is crazy to say from the beginning, which just
tells you how good the team has been. But I
thought you guys came out on fire, controlling the puck,
like your line. You guys started the game just controlling

(00:55):
the puck. I thought we were all over them early
in the game.

Speaker 4 (01:00):
Yeah, it was definitely an emphasis we haven't had a
great starts the last the last couple of games we Philly,
we've been down in the first, uh, you know, each
of the last three games. So we found a little
extra jump, and you know, now we just kind of
need to put it together for for all sixty minutes.
We you know, we had two very very very good
games coming out of the break and then three not
so good games after that.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
So you know, kind of just going back and forth
right now. But hopefully we can string a few together today.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Hey were you were you shocked they took that coaches
challenge so early?

Speaker 3 (01:31):
A little bit.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
I mean, we kind of all thought it was a goal,
and then we watched replay and and and whenever someone
challenges it can always go fifty to fifty. But I
guess we we learned a new rule last night that
you can challenge as many times as you want.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
It's just a penalty, if a penalty if you don't
get it right.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
So so apparently that's the new rule. We also thought
that there was no more timeouts after you lose a challenge,
but I guess we were wrong on that too. So
I'm not sure when they switched all these rules around
on us, but they called the time out pretty late
in the game, and we were all.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
Kind of up in arms because we thought that they
usually are.

Speaker 4 (02:01):
What it used to be is if you lose a challenge,
you lose your time out and you can't challenge again, right,
But I guess those rules have now changed.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
And then you know the other thing, Dylan that I
thought was very obvious from the very beginning of the game, Uh,
Brady could chuck was gonna fight someone. I thought early
on though, I thought he and Nick Daub were gonna go.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
Yeah, they're you know, Brady's a very very good player,
very effective player, and you know he seems to get
under the skin of lots of guys.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
You know, he's always stopping at the net, He's always.

Speaker 4 (02:30):
Kind of digging at the goalie and and uh, you know,
doubters just doing his job and protecting the goalie. And yeah,
I think, uh, Drew hit Willy maybe a little little
a little high, little late, and uh, you know, Willy
kind of turned around and went towards him and and
that's when you know, Brady stepped in. So I thought
it was a really good fight. Thought I got some
momentum for both teams. We scored one kind of right

(02:50):
after and then you know they scored obviously a couple
to to make that game tight. So you know, two
heavyweights going at and it was, you know, fun to
be a part of that.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Yeah, that was fun to see. Hey, let me let
me ask you this. So Tom Wilson had he had
a good game last night as well. So he ends
up with a goal, he ends up with an assist,
and he ends up with the fight. The old Gordi,
howe hat trick? Now, Dylan, let me ask you this.
All the way up through like starting in minors or
you know, whatever level, has Dylan Strom ever had a
Gordi how hat trick?

Speaker 3 (03:21):
No? I've not had a Gordi how hat trick?

Speaker 4 (03:23):
I've only been in one fight, uh since since I
started wearing Advisor in junior and no it went okay.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
But no, no Gordie Hall hat tricks for me. My
brother has a couple.

Speaker 4 (03:33):
Uh, I'm sure both my brothers actually have a couple.
But they're they're they're they're a bit more of the
you know, the edgy, the edgy. Uh.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
I'm a middle child, so I say I'm more of
a lover than a fighter.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Do your parents give you crap and go like, oh,
here's Ryan and Matthew and then here's kind of like
our pussy in the middle, Dylan.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
He just doesn't really fight that much.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
No, I know they haven't.

Speaker 4 (03:55):
They haven't given me too much crap. I feel like, uh,
you know, no, I won't. I will get into too much.
But I think I'm doing okay for myself.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
No, you're doing great. By the way, I should point out,
they put up a very nice statistic about you last
night is you now are the seventh player in Capitol's history.
I hope have this right, the seventh player in Capitol's
history to record sixty or more points in each of
their first three seasons with the team.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Dude, that is fantastic.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Yeah, thank you. I saw that. I saw that tweet
last night. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
I mean it's a you know, it's been a lot
of fun to play for the Caps. You know, we've
had a couple of good seasons, and obviously this is
our best season to date that I've been here for.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
So it's it's a lot of fun. I'm playing with
really good players.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
I get a really good chance in the power playing
most nights, and you get that extra ice time and
you know, get out and overtime and things like that,
and you know, just the coach has When the coach
has confidence in you, you want to take that and
run with it. And you know, the way our team's
playing this whole year, it's it's been a lot of fun.
So looking forward to the to the next you know,
twenty games and heading into the playoffs, so it's it's

(05:06):
definitely exciting.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Hey, Dylan, are you good at remembering very specific plays
from during the game or last night's game's over, it's
out of your head and you move on.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
No, I could probably remember at almost every every detail
from at least one of at least my shifts, and
usually the whole game for much awesome.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
All right, here we go to seventeen left in the
first period. Okay, odd man rush, odd man rush. You're
in the middle. You get the puck just above the circles.
Ovi's on your left hand side. A defenseman is kind
of cheating his way. Did it even cross your mind
to shoot the puck or at that point are you like, no,
just got a dish it left.

Speaker 4 (05:48):
I definitely crossed my mind to shoot at What happened
was Carlson made a great job ass to me, and
I kind of had the lane to shoot. Before I
even picked my head up, I noticed that their D
went to OV to try to like obviously not let
me pass to him, and then when I kind of
looked up and almost like faked the shot, it looked
like he kind of came back to me a little bit.
So I wasn't one hundred percent sure that my shot

(06:08):
would get past his stick, so I kind of just
pulled it in and passed it. I don't I don't
know if it was, you know, exactly in his wheelhouse,
but the goalie made a fantastic save and that's not
one that usually that usually gets stopped when Ov's shooting
from there. So definitely definitely did cross my mind to shoot,
But when the d kind of jumped back towards me,
I felt like it was the better play.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
To pass good, you know what.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
I'm glad you said that he'd jumped back, because from
where I was, I only saw him cheat over and
I was like, oh, Jesus, didn't shoot the park.

Speaker 4 (06:39):
Yeah, it looked like it definitely felt like that at
the beginning, and then it was almost like he he
didn't want to pass to me, so bad that he
realized I was almost on a breakaway, so he kind
of did jump back a little bit. And you know,
if I put that probably four inches behind a little
bit to the left of Ov, it probably goes in.
So that's uh, I'll take that one.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
And then you know the the we talked about getting
out to a really good start in the first period,
and you knew, listen, I was fighting for a playoff spot.
You knew they were gonna come out in the second
and really really press I'll tell you the you know,
then you know, the third period, whatever, the second period,
I thought Logan Thoms had played an unbelievable period in
in the second.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
I mean he's been a fantastic all year, no, no
question about it.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (07:25):
You know he he's very hard on himself and he
doesn't like giving up goals. He hates losing, and it's
a great trade for a boy to have, obviously.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
But you know, he he's a battler.

Speaker 4 (07:35):
There's there's been numerous times this year where where the
game has been three to three or three to us
or three to them even, and he makes a massive
safe to kind of keep us in the game and
not let it go.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
You know, not let it go four to.

Speaker 4 (07:47):
With like five minutes left, and we found a way
to come back and tie those games up. So, you know,
credit to him. He's been fantastic all year and we're
gonna need him. I mean, goal is probably the most
important position on the ice, and you know, he got
rewarded with a nice contract, and you know, we have
a lot of a lot of a lot of faith
in him, and and it's, uh, you know, it's been
great to see for the whole year, and especially last
night he made a bunch of saves.

Speaker 3 (08:08):
You know that four and three and overtime.

Speaker 4 (08:11):
You know, I don't know what the exact percentage is,
but I would say over fifty percent of the time
the team is going to score on a four and three,
especially in overtime.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
Sure he made some huge says.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
Hey, and not not not just Logan, but then also
you know, the the news came out yesterday before the
game that Charlie Lindgren signs an extension. So now goaltenders
are goaltenders are locked up for the next couple of years.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
Does does that resonate well in the locker room?

Speaker 3 (08:36):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (08:37):
I mean, I mean, like I said, with the goaltenders
being you know, I would say the most important position
on your team.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
I think it's it's huge.

Speaker 4 (08:44):
I mean, both those goalies, both our goalies were going
into the season without a contract for next year, and
you know when when they get rewarded with that, with
those contracts, I feel like it's well earned. Obviously, with
what Charlie did last year for our team, and he's
been solid this year too. I feel like people don't
really get him enough credit for for how good he's been.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
We haven't had the we haven't given him the goal
support that we've given Logan this year. But you know, Charlie,
you know, got rewarded with a nice.

Speaker 4 (09:08):
Contract as well, and and assumed to be father. You know,
he he set up his family for the next couple
of years. So really happy that he gets to stay,
and just an awesome teammate, So really happy both those
guys get to stay.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
All Right, A couple of other things. Let's bounce around
a little bit. Busy week. You're in New York tomorrow
night against the Rangers. You're home on Friday against Detroit,
a team that you know is gonna come in hungry Seattle.
You get Sunday afternoon and listen, the teams are already
going right. The Rangers pulled off a couple of deals, yeah,

(09:40):
deals before four nations of Ranton in getting traded.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
I think Nashville just pulled off a deal Colorado, New York.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
Like I mentioned, Is the room gonna look different Friday
night than it does right now?

Speaker 2 (09:53):
Or is the feeling in the room We're good?

Speaker 3 (09:58):
You know, I'm I'm glad that's not my job.

Speaker 4 (10:00):
I I I think that it's a tough decision.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
I mean, you can kind of look at it both ways.

Speaker 4 (10:05):
With with how good our team has been and how
much chemistry and how much fun we've had.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
Anyone around our team can't see.

Speaker 4 (10:11):
That, you know, you don't you don't always want to,
you know, mess that up and bring in a bunch
of guys and it's a totally different vibe. But at
the same time, you know, there's not many times where
where you know that the team is so close to being,
you know, the best team in the league and and
you know might need that little.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
Extra for playoffs.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
So you know, I think the team is gonna be
content with with both ways. We traded away four guys
or three guys last year, at the deadline and then
ended up making the playoffs, so it can.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
Kind of work both ways.

Speaker 4 (10:38):
I know, Carves is a great job of getting us,
you know, ready and and very detailed about each game,
so I'm not I'm not gonna be surprised either way.
But it's always a tough time of here because you know,
the guys that you see every day. You know, some
guys might not be there come come Friday night, like
you said, and it's tough part of the game. They
got families too, they got houses here and things like that,
so you know, it's never easy, but it's part of

(11:00):
the game and something that we've all had to deal
with at some point.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
And you know, you talk about the chemistry of the
of the team, Dylan, and you do you look at
the I mean and listen, just as a fan watching
from afar, you could tell you and you'll hear like
guys who follow like followed the team, whether it's you know,
like Beninatti or Alan may or any of them, talk
about how there's just some special about this year's team
and the closeness in the chemistry. If there is a change, somebody,

(11:26):
some outsider comes in, does that become incumbent on the
leadership group of and I don't just mean Ovi and
Wilson and Carlson, but guys who are veterans like yourself
to then kind of make them fit in as quickly
as possible.

Speaker 3 (11:42):
I think it's just a you know, kind of a
group thing.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
Like we had seven new guys coming this year, which
is you know, pretty big turnover for you know, a
team that has you know, a sport that has you know,
nineteen guys or sorry, eighteen guys total that play in
the game.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
We got seven new guys.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
So I think, you know, it's just it just speaks
to the to the leadership, like you said, and the
and the kind of the culture that that's been built
around here that you know, no matter who comes in,
if you know, if you're kind of not you know,
part of the team, you know you won't last here.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
And I feel like we do a good job of,
you know, kind of making everyone feel comfortable.

Speaker 4 (12:16):
Everyone feels welcome when they come in, everyone feels like
they have a role. I'm not sure you could go
down the list on our team and find a guy
who you know doesn't know exactly what his job is
night in and night out, so I think that's what
you know, good coaching staff and and good leadership and
good veterans bring to a team.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
And we know it's only gonna get harder from here.

Speaker 4 (12:34):
We've seen the last you know, four games that it's been,
it's been not easy for us. So you know, it's
it's always a tricky time of year. But I think
with the type of players that we have and the
type of people that we have, it don't make anyone
that comes in, you know, fit in pretty quickly.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
Is Dylan Strom getting hit up for tickets, whether it's
at home or on the road as Ovie gets closer.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
Not too much.

Speaker 4 (12:57):
I think, you know, people are pretty respectful of of
you know, you know, I guess my tickets. I would say,
you know, if if someone comes down from Toronto that
where I'm from and wants to come to a game,
of course I'm gonna help them out and get them tickets.
But I wouldn't say people are going over and above
to come down and see it.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
So it's, uh, you know, I'm closing in on.

Speaker 4 (13:15):
Five hundred games here, so most people that have wanted
to come to a game so far have have been
to a few games, and you know, obviously, anytime someone
comes down, I'm more than happy to help them out
with getting some tickets.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
Do you feel like your your trek towards five hundred
isn't getting quite the coverage it's deserving.

Speaker 3 (13:32):
No, not not. It doesn't need it. It doesn't need
any covered, believe me, you have.

Speaker 4 (13:39):
But there's lots lots more important things coming up besides that,
so I know, uh, I know, there's a few a
few big milestones on the mend here coming up soon.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
By the way, you know what pisses me off. It
just crosses my mind as we're talking.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
Dylan is like, listen, if if we could all script it,
ovi'll do it at home. We'll all be there to
be able to see it. But it just now dawns
on me while we're talking. No matter where it is,
God damn you, you get to see it, no matter what.

Speaker 3 (14:07):
Yeah, well knock on what hopefully.

Speaker 4 (14:09):
But you know it's gonna be uh, you know, it's
it's gonna be something that I know I've thought about
a bunch of times. You know, it's like, how's how's
the goal gonna be scored? How what's gonna happen? You know,
who's gonna get the puck. You know how much security
is gonna be in the rink. You know who's gonna
be in the rink. I know there's talk about you know,
lots of different you know, types of people from all
over the world are possibly gonna be there. And you

(14:30):
know it's gonna be cool. It's it's it's weird because
I remember watching Barry Bonds when he was going for
the home run record, and how it would like we
were watching just regular Sports Center, and it would come
up along a little screen in the in the corner,
like every one of his hat bats. I don't know
how exactly it's gonna work with OVI, but hopefully you
can get a couple here and then in the next
week and and make h make it a you know,

(14:50):
a fun time coming down the stretch.

Speaker 2 (14:52):
Oh my god, I can't wait.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
And then next week, I know, next week you guys
hit the road for a three game West Coast Strip
or trip. Rather you get to see your breather out
into Anaheim. Then you get La and San Jose.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
Will that be a good uh?

Speaker 1 (15:04):
Will that be a good little getaway to hit out
West for a couple of days, just as the team
by themselves.

Speaker 4 (15:10):
Yeah, it's always fun, always fun to go to go
on road trips, you know, especially when you need to
get to get to play against your brother and and
get some get out of this cold that we've been
experiencing in DC for a little bit to.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
Get some sunshine. So, uh no, always fun to go
out west.

Speaker 4 (15:24):
I was we were kind of talking yesterday how it's
weird that we have uh, you know, three different.

Speaker 3 (15:29):
Uh West coast trips this year. So yeah, we've been
Obviously we went to Colorado, Utah.

Speaker 4 (15:34):
And Vegas for one trip, then we went all the
way western Canada, and now we gotta go west California West.
So lots of different road trips this year. But they're
always fun, and we've been a great road.

Speaker 3 (15:45):
Team all year. So it's it makes that it makes
it even that much better.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
Hey, last thing, and then I know, I gotta let
you jump going back over the weekend when Tampa was here.
I don't know, well, you said you remember almost everything.
At the end of the game, empty net goal, Dylan
Strom skates up and smashes his stick against the net.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
Right, fine, totally fine, I have no problem with that.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
But let me ask you this, when you were growing up,
and there's three strong brothers that are playing hockey, and
I'm talking youth hockey, Dylan. So you've got you, You've
got Ryan, You've got Matthew I had.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
I had two kids that grew up playing hockey.

Speaker 1 (16:19):
Did your parents have the same rule that me and
all my friends had with their kids? If you break
your stick in anger, you have to buy your own?

Speaker 4 (16:30):
Yes, I you know, that was not something that you know,
I just feel like, I know, it looks pretty childish
when I do it now, so and I hate when
I do it. I was pretty frustrated after that one,
but especially as a as a kid, that was just
something that was just disrespectful to your parents, I think.
So it was never something that myself or my two brothers.
I don't think we ever we ever did that, It

(16:52):
would not have gone over well in our household. Use
a road hockey stick for the next couple of weeks
if we did that. So that was not something that
we were gonna we were gonna do too easily.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
No, And sticks are so goddamn expensive.

Speaker 1 (17:06):
Well, you don't know, you probably haven't bought a stick
in fifteen years, But sticks are so goddamn expensive.

Speaker 3 (17:13):
I know. I remember my my last year of minor hockey.

Speaker 4 (17:16):
So I was fifteen, I guess, and that was the
first time that anyone had like send me sticks, like
a company had sent me sticks. And I remember just
being like so so thankful that you know, he always
hears stressed as a kid if if one breaks, you know,
you don't want to stick to break.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
It's it's never a good thing.

Speaker 4 (17:31):
Your parents work hard for their money and they put
you in hockey, and then if it stick breaks, it's like,
you know, they got to go out and get you
a new one, and and uh, you know, it's always
it's never a fun thing. But I remember being very
thankful the first time that I ever got some sticks
sent to me.

Speaker 3 (17:45):
And and like you said, I guess that would be.

Speaker 4 (17:47):
Thirteen years ago now coming up on so I don't
think I definitely haven't paid for a stick.

Speaker 2 (17:51):
And now, dude, good for you.

Speaker 1 (17:53):
All right, Hey, congratulations on the on the win last night,
on the on the shootout goal. It'd be nice to
get back on a good little run here, Like I said,
you get Wednesday night on the road at the garden
and then back home Friday and Sunday.

Speaker 2 (18:06):
Hey, Dylan. I appreciate the time.

Speaker 3 (18:08):
Thank you sir, no problem, thanks for having me. Elliott
