While harvesting marijuana in Maine is legal, local, and federal authorities have unearthed what appears to be an underground network of illegal, unregulated marijuana grow houses operated by Chinese transnational criminal organizations. The Department of Homeland Security claim law enforcement officials have identified the existence of at least 270 illicit cultivation operations in Maine.
