The number is nine seven eight six three two, nineteen
eighty five. Paul, you're very generous as always before I
let you go. Are you going to be participating in
that five k run tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
Paul, I'm an observer. Yeah, I'm sure, I'll tell you.
We we come out and cook and there's so many
restaurants that get out there and uh and are supportive
and it's an amazing event. And to be out there early,
you know, Castle Island, you know, it's such a historic location,
and to be out there with all the runners and everything,
and you know, it's supposed to be nice weather tomorrow,

(01:58):
a little over fifty, so it'll be a nice sunny day.
Everybody will have a blast. Everybody brings the dogs, and
it's just it's a great, great day. It's you know,
not only is it a great start to your weekend,
but it's also that thing where you're giving and you're

And you know that the whole dav team puts on
such an amazing show.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
It really really is.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
And you know, I we've been doing it for a
while and we just absolutely love it.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
We look forward to it every year.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
I couldn't have said it better myself. Okay, joining me now?
Every year Dan Kirk delivers. He is the owner CEO
of Cork Auto Group. Dan has been a longtime supporter
of the dav Department of Massachusetts. Call now if you
want to make a bid or you make a donation

(02:54):
as well. Nine seven eight six three two nineteen eighty
five eight six three two one eight five. Dan, thank
you so much for coming on wrko's annual radiothon to
benefit disabled American veterans.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
And I got to ask you, how are you? Dan?

Speaker 4 (03:15):
Good morning, Jeff. I'm fine on this beautiful day. It
couldn't be better for November Day, so I'm fine. Thank you.
It's an honor to be here. Dan.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
I'm just curious why the DAV you're generous every single year.
Have you, or have any of your family members served
in the military.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
Well, my father was a World War Two veteran, my
nephew is a veteran of Afghanistan, and my great uncle
was killed in France in World War One. I served
in the Air Force Reserves from nineteen sixty nine to
nineteen seventy five. But the real veterans are the people
that I just mentioned before myself.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Dan, You're always so generous, and not just with the DAV,
but with the da V five K you know Boston,
the Run Tomorrow, the DAV Department of Massachusetts, all their programs.
Why do you support the da V year in year out.

Speaker 4 (04:20):
I support the da V because I respect the commitment
that they make to veterans, and and I do know
that the DAV just celebrated their one hundredth anniversary, which
is incredible because for an organization to do that much
for veterans for so long, I am so happy to

(04:41):
be part of this so that I can support the
DAV and the good work that they do. I was
introduced to the DAV by Lou PASCUALI a World War
Two veterans, in the eighties, and I've been involved ever since.
And I just couldn't saydn's good about the d the DAV.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
Well, Dan, thank you so much, And and I know
Dan Stack wants to say a few words to you.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Dan, please go ahead, mister Quirk.

Speaker 5 (05:10):
As always, God bless you for the support that you
have given us throughout the years, especially mentioning Louis's name.
As you know, our dav five K Boston Road Race,
or as we call it, our our five k, wouldn't
have been possible about lou lou Is, the instrument behind

(05:30):
our golf tournament, our five k. He did. He came
up with all kinds of fundraising ideas and he brought
us to you and you have always supported us. And
God bless you for everything you've done for us throughout
the years.

Speaker 4 (05:45):
Thank you very much. And mister accept please accept that
ten thousand dollars donation. WHOA from Auto.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
You're the man, Dan, God bless you, buddy.

Speaker 4 (06:00):
Well, thank you, And if I can, it's a good
time to remember that it's the birthday of the Marine
Corps on November tenth. And the reason why I mentioned
that is because when I was a pipefitter, the mechanical
contractor that I worked for, he was a veteran of
EWO Jmer and he was a Marine and his birthday

(06:21):
was November tenth. His name was John Kelty from Blall.
So the veterans and all the commitment and the things
that the veterans have done for people in the United States,
the least we could do is support our veterans.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
Dan, I cannot thank you enough for such an incredible
generous donation ten thousand dollars. We are talking with Dan Quirk,
the owner CEO of Quirk Auto Group. Dan, You've made me,
You've made my day. Thank you from the bottom of
my heart. Dan, God bless you, and a big thank

(06:55):
you from everybody here at WRKO and a disabled American
van terans.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Okay, we got to go.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
This hour of the dav Annual Radiothon on WRKO, brought
to you by Walmart. Call now, be generous, give whatever
you can give. Nine seven eight six three two, nineteen
eighty five. Okay, Welcome back to the WRKOS Annual Radiothon

(07:22):
to benefit disabled American veterans. It is this hour is
brought to you by Walmart. The number to call if
you want to donate nine seven eight six three two
one nine eight five nine seven eight six three two
nineteen eighty five. And of course we're still auctioning this

(07:44):
incredible dinner with Paul Wahlberg at one of his exquisite restaurants.
All kidding aside Alman Novee, I'm teasing him about alvinov
Alman Novae. It is right by the harbor, beautiful, stunning
you ten people, full course, six course meal. You're gonna

(08:05):
eat like a king and a queen. Trust me an
incredible wine. Really, Almanova is one of the best. I'm
so happy it truly is one of the best restaurants
in all of Boston.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
You've got to go. It's an experience.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
We already have a bid for two thousand dollars. Yes, baby,
do I hear three thousand, three thousand dollars Call nine
seven eight six three two nineteen eighty five seven nine
seven eight six three two one nine eight five, or
if you prefer, you can do it through the website.

(08:48):
That it works as well.

Speaker 5 (08:50):
Jeff in regards to the auction that they would have
to call, oh, they have to call yell. The website
is only just straight for donating for donation, really trying
to bid on the particular dinner that.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
Paul, It's got to be the call, the phone call
I got you, Okay, So if you want to bid
on the dinner, we have a bid already for two
thousand dollars nine seven eight six three two nineteen eighty five.
Of course you can call that number as well. If
you want to donate, and again Cooner Country, please give
generously whatever you can give. Ten dollars, twenty five dollars,

(09:24):
fifty dollars, one hundred dollars. I know times are tough,
inflation and everything else, but we can I think we
can scratch up a few dollars all of us to
give to our wonderful veterans. And that you can do
again by phone nine seven eight three six three two
nine seven eight six three two nineteen eighty five, or

(09:45):
you can do it via the website visit dav five
k dot Boston. Dav the number five k dot Boston. Paul, Buddy,
I know you're happy now I can finally pronounced the restaurant.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
Your annunciation is perfect practice, practice practice now, Paul.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
I mean you used to go to people's homes and
you know, you would bring the plates, you'd bring the food,
you'd you know, it didn't matter if it was a
triple decker, you went up those stairs. You did whatever
you had to do. This year, you're doing Almanovay.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
Yeah. Why why are you putting in this?

Speaker 3 (10:28):
Because because we want to give everybody the most beautiful
setting possible and have the greatest, most gracious experience.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
You know, you know, really you're going to.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
Do this, but again it's it's the opportunity to say
thank you, you know, and and really everybody needs to
say thank you to all of our veterans, you know, regardless,
especially you know, this time of year, and every opportunity
you get, because we all know someone, we're either related

(10:59):
to someone, we have a cousin or nephew whoever that is, parents,
you know, especially you know, people of our generation where
you know, everybody fought in you know, World War two
and Korea and the whole and Vietnam. It's just all
of it, and especially our soldiers now and it's just
very very important for all of those people for us

(11:19):
to say thank you. And then the ones that come
back and the ones that are struggling, you know, we
need to be there to support them. They supported us,
we need to support them back.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
Paul, you know, I got to say, and then I
want to go to Bob Lynch. But you know it's
not just you and God bless you, but it's your
brother Mark, it's your other brother Donnie. The Wahlberg's in general,
the Klan, the Wahlberg Clan very supportive of the military
very supportive of our veterans, and I'm just curious why.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
Well, my dad fought was in he was in Germany
at the end of World War Two. He's a Korean,
a Korean War era veteran, and he my uncle was
in Italy. You know, my grandparents, like you knew everybody
back then because when that call was made in World
War Two, everybody answered, and so people like that, and

(12:12):
it was always something that we supported, you know, even
going to you know, being a little and going to
Saint Patrick's Day in Dorchester Day and things like that,
and you'd go to the parades when the cootie guys
would go by, and everybody, my dad would make sure
we had money, we got poppies at the rights, like
we did the things that you're supposed to do, to
say thank you and be supportive because you know they

(12:33):
have first to hind knowledge.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
Wonderful, Honestly, that's just wonderful.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
Bob.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
I want to ask you, Bob Lynch of the dav
You've been with us here for so many years, what
does Paul Wahlberg's immense, very generous success mean for you,
for Dan Stack, for everybody at the DAV.

Speaker 6 (12:55):
Well, I would say first of all that Paul's values
are aligned perfectly with the DAV, the humble attitude, the
behind the scenes work that he does, and giving. I
think that's what if there's one word that we talk
about with the DAV people associated with the organization, the employees,

(13:18):
the vendors that we work with, all people who are
giving and want to help people, which we mentioned Lupisqually's
name earlier, I would say that was his mantra. I
just want to help people, and so I think that's
what we need to remember, and that's what Paul stands for.

(13:42):
Let's help one another.

Speaker 5 (13:45):
Dan, I know, Dan Stock, please, as Bob just said,
Paul has worked behind the scenes. We happen to have
a DAV five K that's coming up on Saturday, and
part of the experience for all of the runners that
come and to be the food vendors that are there
to provide free all of their little cuisines that they

(14:07):
bring to the five k, And we wouldn't have one
of them if it weren't for the first one that came,
and that was Paul Wahlberg. Paul Wahlberg has gotten all
of these vendors to give and give generously our sixteen
hundred runners that are going to be there, that they
enjoyed that many.

Speaker 3 (14:26):
I don't have enough.

Speaker 2 (14:27):
Well, I know you're I heard.

Speaker 5 (14:33):
I heard you're going to be cutting those Hamburgers in fourth.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
Anyway, we now.

Speaker 5 (14:39):
But anyway, it wasn't for Baull. In fact, this is
a funny story. We contacted one of the vendors one
year on our own and said, jeez, could you help
us out, could you do something? And he said, Jeez,
to be honest with you, I've got other commitments can't
make at that particular day. Gets a call from Wahlburg.
Next thing I know is I'm getting a call right
back is yeah, we'll be there. He was there himself.

(14:59):
So anyway, Paul, if it weren't for you, we wouldn't
have all eeg grew.

Speaker 3 (15:02):
Now, I will tell you I have very little to
do with this. I just I'm given the chance to
support and the restaurants. That's the one thing I love
about my industry and what I do and what I
love and what's my passion is the restaurants step up
when that call goes out for any type of fundraise

(15:25):
or anything like that. The restaurant business shows up and
where there's so many supportive people in our industry. It's
amazing and I'm just so proud to be part of it.
And these restaurants come because they want to and they
want to be supportive, they want to be out there,
and the connections that they make and it's just it's
great for everyone, it really is.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
It's a great.

Speaker 3 (15:46):
Experience because you look at the runners, they're out there,
they you know, they're setting their goals, they're going out
competing and doing their thing. And then you have the
restaurants who get to be out there and be supported,
and then all of the other people come out to
be supportive. It's a great day, it really is. And
all of these types of events they're just great for
They're great for you, they're great for your soul, and

(16:07):
they're supportive and they really kind of, you know, put
everything in perspective for us.

Speaker 1 (16:12):
I couldn't say it now, really honestly, couldn't have said
it better myself. Okay, everybody, Kooner Country. We have given
very generously over the years. These wonderful veterans have been
there for us. We now need to be there for them.
The number to call nine seven eight six three two
nineteen eighty five if you want to give nine seven

(16:35):
eight six three two one nine eight five. If you
prefer through their website, you can definitely give there. A
lot of people are donating. DAV five k dot Boston,
dav the number five k dot Boston. We have a
two thousand dollars bid on an incredible auction for a

(16:55):
ten for ten people, six course meal with wine at
Paul's incredible restaurant. You've got to go there. Alma Novey,
Uh it is Alma nov and uh really, two thousand
dollars is going to be the experience of a lifetime.
As I always say, it's my favorite show of the year.

(17:19):
And this hour is brought to you by Walmart. Okay,
if you want to give, please call nine seven eight
six three two nineteen eighty five nine seven eight six
three two one nine eight five, or if you prefer,
you can visit DAV five K dot Boston, DAV the
number five five k dot Boston and joining us now.

(17:43):
It is my distinct honor and pleasure. Chris Bucannon. He
is the director of Public Affairs at Walmart for New England. Chris,
thank you so much for coming on the Kuner Report
and joining us for our annual radio on here at
w r KO to benefit DAV Department of Massachusetts.

Speaker 2 (18:05):
How are you, Chris?

Speaker 7 (18:07):
Absolutely, I'm great, couldn't be better this morning, Jeff, thanks
for having me on, and thanks very much for you
and w RKO for you know, for this partnership of
the DAV and trying to get the word out to
support the DAV. They're a wonderful organization, one that Walmart
supported pretty consistently for a while now and rightfully so.

(18:28):
But you know, overall, it's interesting. I mean, obviously, you know,
Veterans Day is Monday, and a lot of focus on
Veterans Day, you know, on that particular day, but you know, Walmart,
we support veterans all year long. And yeah, just a
quick example, you know, we've hired more than four hundred
thousand veterans and military spouses since twenty thirteen, which is

(18:50):
so proud, so proud and happy to do.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
So wow, Chris, I'm just curious many veterans groups out there,
obviously Walmart. I mean, that is a stunning figure. That
is an incredible figure that you just gave. Why the
DAV of all the groups out there, why Disabled American
Veterans for the Department of Massachusetts.

Speaker 7 (19:13):
Absolutely, you know, and if you talk to the folks
in the d a V. You know, sometimes they're a
forgotten group. So and they do such wonderful work. They provide,
you know, such a wide variety of services for disabled
bets you know here in Massachusetts and across the country
for that matter. So just a wonderful group to get behind.
And you know, again thanks to r KO for getting
the word out here today. Hopefully folks will you know,

(19:36):
dial for dollars. That's what it's all about. But uh,
you know, on the on the business side with Walmart
to you know, we do a ton of business with
veteran owned businesses across the country and we've invested over
a billion dollars that that that's a billion with a B.
So we we definitely put our money where our mouth is.

Speaker 1 (19:59):
Is great to that is really inspiring and great to hear.
Chris dan Stock is with us here in studio. He
is the executive director of the DAV Department of Massachusetts.

Speaker 2 (20:12):
He wants to say a few words.

Speaker 5 (20:14):
Dan please, Chris, thank you very much for sponsoring this hour.
As you know, by you sponsoring it. Every single donation
that is called in goes in direct service to veterans
and what their needs. But more importantly, I also want
to thank Walmart because we have had a long term
relationship with you, and that relationship has helped us with

(20:34):
the zip trips that Channel twenty five has and those
zip trips allow us to get the DAV message out
and again letting people know on the local level where
they can go get services as a veteran if they're
in need. And that is because of Walmart and also
your generosity, as you know at the end of zip trips,

(20:54):
who presented us with a fifteen thousand dollars check which
goes directly into veteran services. Once again, Walmart puts its
money where its mouth is and thank you very much
for your support and help.

Speaker 7 (21:06):
Absolutely you know, and I think I didn't even mention
the dollar amount this morning. You can count on us
for another fifteen thousand, Are you serious? I'm very serious?

Speaker 2 (21:15):
Whoa, Chris, That's what I'm talking about.

Speaker 5 (21:23):
God bless Chris. Thank you very much. That'll be well used.

Speaker 7 (21:25):
Absolutely happy to support you guys as always.

Speaker 2 (21:29):
Chris, God bless you. Bob.

Speaker 1 (21:31):
I know Bob linch you want to say something to Chris.
Bob blincha Bob Blinch with the DAV He's been with
them forever.

Speaker 2 (21:38):
Go ahead, Bob.

Speaker 6 (21:39):
Yes, Chris, I can't say thank you enough for your
generous donation in working the partnership with the DAV has
been turningmendous over the years and we can't thank you enough.

Speaker 1 (21:51):
Thanks very much, Chris, Director of Public Affairs at Walmart
for New England. Chris, from the bottom of my heart, me,
my whole audience, all the disabled veterans, and of course
everyone here in studio. Thank you so much, Chris, and
have a wonderful weekend. Thanks once again, God bless you.

Speaker 7 (22:11):
Good you too, Thanks very much.

Speaker 2 (22:12):
Go take care. Chris.

Speaker 1 (22:14):
Wow, that's whoa. I mean, that's a nice check, you know.

Speaker 2 (22:18):
I mean.

Speaker 5 (22:18):
It's the other thing that Chris didn't mention is Walmart
also has a team that's going to be running in
the DAV five case, so we're looking forward to that too.
They're a great support to the Disabled American Veterans Department.

Speaker 1 (22:32):
That's really nice to hear. Okay, now joining us now,
they just keep coming one after another, by the way,
just very quickly. I know a lot of people are
listening and they're texting me saying, Jeff, I want to give,
I want to give, and again, I really want to
stress this. You ask any of these disabled veterans. It's
not the amount, it's the thought. Please whatever you can give.

(22:55):
I know times are tough. Whatever, twenty dollars, fifty dollars,
hundred dollars, whatever you can give. Call nine seven eight
six three two nineteen eighty five nine seven eight six
three two one nine eighty five, or if you prefer,
you can give online. Visit dav five k dot Boston.
Dav the number five k dot Boston, and we've got

(23:19):
an incredible auction. Paul Wahlberg is sitting three feet away
from me on my on my left. Yes, he's the
co founder of Wallburgers, and I urge all of you.
You want a delicious burger, go to Wallburgers and fries
and everything on the menu. But he's got one of
the hottest, most incredible restaurants in the entire Greater Boston area,

(23:42):

outstanding food with incredible bottles of wine, top notch stuff.
We've got a bid for two thousand dollars. It's gonna

make a bid call nine seven eight six three to
two nineteen eighty five nine seven eight six three two

(24:25):
one nine eight five Okay, joining me now. And it
is also clearly my distinct honor and pleasure is Phil Nadu.
He is a DAV third Junior Vice Commander, US Air Force.
Any rock veteran, Phil, thank you so much for coming

(24:45):
on the Kooner Report on this very special day, our
annual radio thon to benefit the DAV And before I
even ask you anything, I want to thank you for
your service from the bottom of my heart.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
Phil, How how are you great?

Speaker 8 (25:02):
Thank you? I appreciate you allow me to come on
your show.

Speaker 1 (25:05):
Phil, truly my honor, Phil. I'm just curious you obviously
served our country. You're in a rock war veteran. As
I said, you're someone who served in the Air Force,
and you came out of the military and you had
the transition to becoming a civilian. How was that transition

(25:25):
process for you and what did the DAV do to
help you in that all important, crucial transition.

Speaker 8 (25:34):
The transition was very rough for the first five years.
I ended up wanted to kill myself back in twenty
ten and somebody from the DAV saved my life. They
got me the help that I needed. They got me
to counseling I needed, and since then I have given
back to the DAV. I was the HSC for the

(25:55):
last eighteen months, which is for the DV transportation network
that we have. We give veterans rides to their VA
appointments via community care appointments. They're all volunteer drivers. They
helped the community also, they work with the community. We
had over seven hundred and fifty thousand volunteer hours since

(26:17):
the DAV transfertation started in nineteen eighty seven, we drove
over ten million, six hundred and sixty three miles and
seven hundred and fifty thousand volunteer hours from our drivers.
It's just an amazing program. It's an amazing group of people.
We work with It's just a great program altogether.

Speaker 1 (26:39):
Phil, I don't want to put words in your mouth,
but so you're basically saying you were contemplating suicide and
because of the DAV and the help that they were
able to give you, you're essentially alivee today. I mean,
am I mistating it?

Speaker 8 (26:55):
That's one hundred percent? That's one hundred percent correct, Yes, sir,
it is absolutely wow.

Speaker 2 (27:01):
And Phil, now I know you're you volunteer as well.

Speaker 1 (27:03):
You help out the DAV with with transportation, Yes.

Speaker 4 (27:08):
I do.

Speaker 8 (27:09):
I help coordinate rides and getting veterans back and forth
to their VA appointments via community care appointments. And we
also we're not just about given rides. We're also about community.
So if someone needs food or they need a place
to live or wherever, we we get them to the
right information to d A v m A dot org

(27:30):
and they can go on that website to find other
needs that they need in the community. There's also food pantry,
There's so many different things that the DAV provides that helps.
That's why this is important, this uh radiothon, it is
very very important. The more we get, the more we
can help people.

Speaker 1 (27:52):
Cooner country everybody listening, Please listen to Phil. The DAV
saved his life and there are countless other veterans just
like him.

Speaker 2 (28:02):
And uh, this is.

Speaker 1 (28:04):
Why you need to give generously. And it's not just
that they help people with mental health issues or god forbid,
they're suicidal.

Speaker 2 (28:12):
But people are hungry.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
They get the meals homeless veterans, They get them a
place to stay, doctor's appointments, medical appointments, anything that they need.
The DAV is there for them. So please, I'm urging
all of you please call nine seven eight six three
two nineteen eighty five nine seven eight six three two

(28:36):
one nine eight five give as much as you can
possibly give, or if you prefer DAV five k dot Boston,
go to DAV five k dot Boston.

Speaker 2 (28:47):
Phil.

Speaker 1 (28:47):
I know you're busy, but before we let you go,
Dan Stack, the executive director of DAV Department of Massachusetts,
wants to say a few words.

Speaker 5 (28:56):
Please go ahead, Dan, I personally want to thank Phil
for uh, basically all of his volunteerism with the disabled
American Veterans. Phil has helped us during a difficult period
of time in transitioning with our DAVHSC program. Phil took
it over and did the entire state. We transitioned in

(29:19):
a way that we were able to provide more rides,
as he mentioned, than previously and that is due to
Phil's leadership. In fact, because of his leadership in that program,
our department at our annual convention elevated him to the
third junior vice position because his leadership is cherished in

(29:39):
his volunteerism. To thank you, Phil for all that you
have done. And Jeff, just to let you know the
latest tex is that people are listening to you. We
have a now a three thousand dollars bid for the dinner.

you do. And the transportation program was one of the
things that was near and dear to my heart years
ago when we were trying to raise money for the
transportation program, and that's where mister Quirk was very helpful

(30:22):
to us. So but I want to thank you for
all you do.

Speaker 2 (30:24):
Thank you.

Speaker 8 (30:26):

So the only way to do that is by helping
us out here. So this is mental health. Is getting there.

Speaker 1 (31:06):

say it. I really mean this. Dan Stack has my
private number. Bob Lynch has my private number. You need
