New Zealand's own Wētā Workshop has helped filmmakers bring iconic creatures and stories to life.

Wētā Workshop are behind the visual effects in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, King Kong, and Avatar, among many other films and TV shows.

Director Scott Walker teamed up with the effects company to create the monster terrorising a young family in homegrown horror film 'The Tank'.

Walker and Wētā Workshop founder Sir Richard Taylor first came up with the concept of the creature during 2020, when Walker rented a property on top of an old water tank.

"We ran out of water and I had to climb into the tank to check if it was the pump... that night, I had these great nightmares of creatures oozing out of taps and eating my family. Luckily they didn't, but I wrote the script quickly and then rang Richard."
