Kat Sprowell and Ah-leen Rayner: Breast cancer advocates encourage politicians to make the condition and treatment an election priority - The Sunday Session with Francesca Rudkin

As political parties lay out their promises ahead of the election, advocates are encouraging candidates to make tacking breast cancer a priority.

Breast cancer is the leading cause of death for women under 65.

Kat Sprowell, a survivor of Triple Negative Breast Cancer, is calling on politicians to do better.

"I think it is lacking, and I feel really unclear exactly where they stand. It's a growing issue and something that we need real clarity on."

Breast Cancer Foundation NZ chief executive Ah-leen Rayner says breast cancer can be treatable if identified early- and there's more that can be done for Kiwi women.

"It's not just about drug access, there are other aspects in terms of it. The high-risk screening pathway is one of them, timely treatment is another and obviously drug access is one of the key things."
