Saulsbury. Okay, let's do this. Sewan Salisbury, The USC Truth,
longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury, BryanLima, go Lobos. This is the
Seawan Salisbury Show. They take athree to two series lead, Celtics close

(00:26):
out the Heat. They advanced inthe Eastern Conference playoffs in the NBA Shawn
trip Lee, good morning, andthe Astros losing next straings Justin Verlander pitched
his ass off, didn't get alot of run support and they fall indn't

(00:46):
I would say, did good morning? By the way, good morning,
good morning? I would say,uh, didn't get a lot of run
support. We might be saying thaton the just a bit underrated side.
We probably are downplaying that a bit. You feel me? Dog, another
thing, and another one, andanother one and another one. You know
what I what I loved about Cleveland'sgame last night is how they earned that

(01:10):
runner on second extra inks. It'sgreat, isn't it. I mean,
you know the way you what Iloved is the base hit to right and
then stole second to get himself inposition in the tenth inning to be driven
in. You know what I'm saying, Well, what a great Well,
that's right. We don't play. We're amateur hour little league because we just
we just want to make sure thatour baseball players aren't tired. It's the

(01:34):
next day the Manford man. Yeah, well it is the it's a gimmick
rule, and we add nauseum.I just I don't care whose team it
is. If the Astros win byit in Red Sox, I don't care
who it is, because eventually you'regonna get beaten by it, you're gonna
win with it. I'm not Idon't feel sorry for players that got to
play. If they had to playfifteen innings in the game ended at two

(01:57):
twenty and there's eight people in thestands, Oh well it does not.
I don't care that their tie wasshown. And the last thing, when
somebody, like in hockey or football, not saying it's a tough guy sport,
here's when you can complain to meabout saying. And you know what,
I'd rather see an outfielder have topitch in the fourteenth inning than giving
them a free runner on second andthe second inning, I mean, in

(02:17):
the tenth inning. I would It'sjust someday, you got to like we
used to, you just got togut it. Out man, you'll get
a couple of those during the year. It's fifteen inning. What we let
them do it in the playoffs andpostseason. Well, they're well rested by
the end of No, no,they're not. They're alway you're going to
be tired. The construction workers tiredbecause he had to stay up last night
but he didn't get somebody to comeovernight and put half the roof on for

(02:39):
him to where he's got to finishon time, so they're under budget.
I honestly I hate it. Wedo less now, and I'm not saying
it's the players. I'm talking aboutthe rules ry. I know we've talked
about it before, but it honestlydrives me crazy. The we pussify everything.
Now we just do and well sewn. Aren't you worried about injuries.

(03:02):
No, I'll tell you what.I'll be worried about injuries when the guys
on the mound in the twelfth inningand a player gets to run out of
the dugout and when he releases theball hit him in his ribcage. Then
I'll worry about injuries. Well, they get fatigued, I don't care.
I don't Then to add two extraguys to the roster, increase rosters.

(03:23):
See, you have thirty players allyear long for one hundred and sixty two
games. All right, if that'swhat you want to do, I don't
feel sorry for anybody. And Iand here's another thing, Well, Sean,
what if they have a day gamethe next day and no offense?
Have you ever partied, stayed uplate at night and then got up on
money and went and played a game, you know, like, or had
to practice the next day on yourfootball team or baseball team basketball? Sure,

(03:45):
you have plenty of times. Matterof fact, guys in the NBA
and baseball guess what they do?First of all, you think that I'll
just use it. Do you thinkthat James Harden had curfew in the NBA?
No? As right, So youknow you may be tired, but
you know what I know is sometimesyou just got to gut it out with
Sean. You know, when peopleare tired of mccans change, they get
hurt. Well, we're having moreinjuries than ever, and we've got more

(04:05):
gimmicks in baseball than ever. Wegot more arm injuries and I'm not worried
about that. Sorry, Then youadd an extra pitcher. And he'll be
the the uh you know, theguy has to start. I'd rather add
two extra players to a roster thenhave a tenth inning where you just give
a free runner. It is anotherthing in life that's not hear and will
Sean fans don't want to stay upthat late, well the good watch it

(04:28):
on video the next day. Ifyou don't want to stay up that late,
you get up at three thirty.I get up at three thirty triple
E. And there's people who worka lot harder, and we do got
more demanding jobs and getting up andtalking sports and entertainment. I know it's
a rant, but to me,we feel like we have to change everything
to make it right. Change doesn'talways equal good. Sometimes you make change

(04:50):
for the wrong reasons. And welet a twenty two We let twenty twenty
COVID stuff change the rules of abaseball game. Okay for that year,
you lie, fine, go back, go back and do what you don't
have to earn it. A pitchercould be thrown great, you know,
come in in the tenth and haveevery pitch perfect, hits one on the

(05:10):
black guy throws his bat out thereand bloop singer left you lose a game.
Now that guy would normally be onfirst base. Then the next guy
grounds into a double play, andthen you get out of the inning and
you get a chance to go tothe eleventh. It's to me and I
know, well, is it reallythat big a deal? Will the fans
fans pay to watch a baseball game? Now? If you're on the Cleveland's

(05:32):
happy tonight, But in two weeksthey're gonna be bummed out. Did somebody
beat them like that? So ithas zero to do with the fact that
the Astros lost last night. Ithas everything to do with we're not getting
our money's worth, and then we'regonna get mad at the pitcher for giving
up a bloop single with a guyon second or a basement with a guy
on second because somebody threw their batat it and he gets the loss and

(05:55):
he didn't even get a chance tosay, okay, I walk the first
guy. Yeah. What do youhear about football overtime? What are the
people who say, when you sayjust sudden deaths from the start? Give
offense, defense and special teams allin the field. Offense defense at least
one try in the NFL, andthen after that it's both get a chance.
It's not you score first and youwin automatically. Right, I've been
during the regular season. I'm talkingabout all the time. And then you'll

(06:16):
get the pleeple say, well, then defense should have got to stop.
Okay, then the pitcher should thenthe shooter, the shooter and the hitter
should have had to earn first baseor second base. Right, what's the
why is one okay and the otherisn't? Well, I don't I don't
understand it, and you're not gonnatalk to me. I'm sorry. I

(06:39):
know they play a lot of games, but they get to sleep in they
go. It ain't like hockey orsomethinghere. You go in to play one
game and get out of the NBA. You can play one game and leave,
and you got to play the nextnight or two nights later, and
coast to coast. You're usually therethree or four days. You get to
go out sleep and if one ofthose times you got to play a fifteen
inning game and there's nobody on secondbase in the tenth that didn't earn it,

(07:00):
oh well happens. So I hateit. I think it's a gimmick.
There's nothing good about it. Andoh that's old school baseball Pierce,
Yeah, sure is, and youknow what, we loved it then,
so I don't And you know what, we're gonna fix something else to this
Awso you know they're gonna add somethingthis offseason. When it comes around,
then we're gonna say what we're doing. What when don't we get to make

(07:23):
homeplate bigger? For the strike zone? When's that coming, buddy? Where
it matches? When when's that comingwhere? Well? You know what,
you know why. They won't dothat. They'll make it smaller, you
know why. So we have moreoffense, even tougher on the pitcher,
So they'll do that. Yet,tell me we got to put a guy
on second base so we don't tirepeople out, No extra innings, screw
major League Baseball, and no offense. If the player bitches about it,

(07:44):
oh well, I'm not worried.Your twenty five million dollars or your two
point five million dollars or your fivehundred thousand dollars. I'm not getting in
your wallet. But if you can'tplay tired the next day, how many
times do you work in your kids? I know with quarterbacks, I'll drop
him back fifteen twenty five times ina row and I'll say, guess what
what I'll do is I'll drop back. We'll go through a drill and I'll
say drop back, and I wantyou to sprint forty We don't have any

(08:07):
timeouts. As we get closer tothe season, you know, I'm trying
to work them because I'm not astrength and conditioning coach. I'm a quarterback
coach, and so i want theeverything I do is with the football in
their hand, so to train himbecause I'm going to tell you the movement's
different running track. That's good theirstrength and conditioning, but I want to
program them for their mind not totwilt when it's duress or when they're tired,
because when you're tired, you becomea physical coward and a mental cowerd.

(08:28):
You do, we all do.It's like, oh, I wanna
you start to create excuses of whyyou didn't make a play. I'll drop
them back. If I boom, drop back, drop back, and I'll
say take off, take off running, give me forty yards and sprint back.
And then you know what we'll dowhen we get back. Receivers are
sitting there, I want you toimmediately get in and drop back three more
straight times. We have a timeouts. Buddy, we got a twelve play

(08:48):
drive. You got to throw everytime. You're gonna be exhausted. How
are you thinking then? And Iwant you to think eleven on eleven.
I'm gonna call out the coverage onyour third time when you're exhausted, we
don't have a timeout. And thenmaybe I'll say, spiked the ball.
You got a first down. Nowwe'll take our Breath's the way it works,
man, That's why you get paid. That's why you elevate, and
that's why. And you know what, if a pitcher loses this concentration in

(09:09):
the fourteenth inning, you get thehome run. That's how we win.
I don't consider tenth inning wins. And second, I consider wins like that
gimmick. That's not a walk offwin for me. That's just a and
now it is by the rule, but the rule sucks. I don't know
why we do it. I justdon't understand why they made this a full
time thing now, Like why rodManfred? Why was it in a temporary

(09:31):
Yeah, like, okay, wedid it during the COVID season, and
then I think they did it againin twenty twenty one and then when the
new CBA came out in twenty twentythree, they're like, yeah, let's
just do it again. Yeah, institute a full time from here on out.
Great point are you making? Areyou mad? Now? I know
people wanted faster games. Instead oftwo hours and thirty minutes, we want
two hours and twenty seven minutes. Are right, But when it gets to

(09:52):
extra innings, tell me you knowthe last thing you're thinking about. I
know people say, man, I'mtired, but I can't miss this.
I'm never thinking about now. I'mthinking about man I got to GetUp,
or I'm missing this. I'm notthinking about man. I wish there was
a guy on second. We couldend this game quick. You're thinking about
baseball and scratching a win out.If you're gonna do it, put the
guy on first. Put the guyin first, so they have to at

(10:13):
least earn two base hits or agapper where the guy can score from first.
And you at least give the picturea chance, even though you gave
a free runner like you walk theguy, at least a ground ball,
get out of a double play. You know what they want to do.
They want to speed it up andMajor League baseball wants out. They don't
want to have to deal with allthe fourteen to fifteen inning games and TV
and all that stuff. Screw you, see what I'm saying. Okay,

(10:35):
then, if you're gonna gimmick me, gimmick me on first base, now,
at least make them earn Oh,we got to double in the gap.
Now second, third, and ifthe pitcher gets rewarded for a routine
listen, a routine ground ball tosecond base with a runner on second and
no outs gets the third. Nowthere's one out sacrifice fly wins it,
so you really haven't earned it theway you're supposed to. At least on

(10:58):
first. If you're gonna gimmick met, you're gonna have to get two hits,
you see, unless ones into theseats are a deep gap, a
gapper that rolls around. The guy'sgot a speed merchant on first and the
scores. I hate it. Idon't know why we gimmick everything up just
to speed things up. To me, I think it sucks ass I do.
Yeah, I'm not a fan ofit. I hate it. And

(11:18):
if they had it won last night, I'd be saying the same thing for
Cleveland fans. I promise you.I don't care who won the guy.
I mean, I care, butabout that the way they want it.
No, I hate it as youshould. I just don't understand why they
even made this full time. Itmakes no, you know, exactly sense
to me why they made this fulltime? Look at society. We love
something for nothing that you didn't earn. But we'll we'll reward you. You

(11:41):
want me to go into that speechor should we change stations so it comes
into a news and political thing youwant to go there? I would.
Yeah, we can't. Yeah, you and I both of it. But
it's too early in the morning forme to have people wake up saying,
oh gosh, Sean, I hearthis on the news every day. Let's
stick to the way we have laughsand too. But I know people are
thinking the same thing we are.Yeah, ridiculous. Man astros fall in
extra innings Justin Verlinder pitched his assoff. Let's take a look at his

(12:05):
outing. That's next on Sports Talkseven ninety
