Speaker 1 (00:00):
Toby and Chili Mornings on Demand on ninety seven point one.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
There's always a reason to feel good this early in
the morning, not just because it's a new day, just
because there's always something to feel good about. Toby and
Chilly in the Morning on Monday, December ninth, ninety seven
point one, Wash the FM's Chili.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
Why are you feeling good this morning?

Speaker 4 (00:19):
I'm feeling good that I'm healing well after stabbing myself
over the weekend.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
And what happened? You've got stitches?

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Really?

Speaker 5 (00:28):
I really got stitches?

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Wow? I thought you were kidding. For what happened.

Speaker 4 (00:32):
I was opening a package foolishly with a knife and
it slipped and I went right into the side of
my finger and ended up in the urgent care and
got four stitches.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (00:46):
Now it's the first time I've had stitches.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
And I know I've had many surgeries, but I don't
count those sticks.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Those are stitches you never intended to get. Correct. You're
like that act.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Yes, And I go to Los Angeles for a long
weekend and it's not even a long weekend, it was
more like work. I can't leave you alone for five
minutes and you're stabbing yourself I know.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
And I'm mad, so mad. So I mean, you know
it's healing. Oh man, it'll be fine. I'll get I'm
going to get those stitches out in like twelve days.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
Well that's a good thing.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
At least still have something to look forward to as
we get closer to Christmas.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
No more stitches.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
I'm feeling good because you know, I was in Los
Angeles for some meetings with our union called SAG after
and I'm not trying to get too inside, but most
people I think can relate to this, and maybe you can.
There's just something about having a meeting with people in
real life, especially when it was the first time that
you've seen them in over four plus years because of

(01:42):
the lockdown and the shutdown and everything was virtual and.

Speaker 5 (01:45):
Like a reunion.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
Then it really was.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
It was you know what, it was good to pick
up kind of like just where you left off, although
you know, there was just a whole vibe, like everybody
was running late most of the weekend because everybody was
just talking to one another and having faith to face
conversations and that felt good. So well, Chile, you might
have stabbed yourself and that didn't feel good.

Speaker 5 (02:07):
No, but I'm glad it's healing.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Yes, felt good to get away from these cameras and
actually have a meeting about things that matter with people
that you haven't seen from across the country and in years.
And I didn't realize it until I was on the
flight back. I'm like, wow, that is the first time
that was That was just a thing. So there's always
something to feel good about it, even if even if
you end up in the urgent care getting stitches, or

(02:30):
maybe you end up in Los Angeles, across the country
in less than seventy two hours. It is what it is.

count small things we've done that maybe put us on
the naughty list?

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Well, small things like me just being a slob at
the house and the cleaning up.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
That's that's not small, that's big. I'm on the naughty list.

Speaker 5 (03:21):
Oh my, Okay, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
I think it's got to be pretty big.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
I'm on the naughty list for saying I'm too tired
to take our sun to swim early Saturday mornings, so
I have my husband do it.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
Nothing wrong with that, though, That's called being honest. That
doesn't make you naughty. But okay, what about you? Good morning, Sarah,
thank you for listening to us in Silver Spring, Naughty
or nice?

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Which list are you on? And why?

Speaker 1 (03:43):
All right?

Speaker 6 (03:44):
So when I walk my dolin outside, I let him.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
Like you know, do his thing in front of my
neighbor's lawns and.

Speaker 7 (03:49):
I don't clean it up.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
Boom to you, sounds like you've had some first hand
experience with that there on the cold sect. Yes, you're
saying I can't stand it when it happens in my commune.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
I'm just saying, thank you for jumping in naughty or Nice?
Which list are you on? And why? Stephanie, Good morning
in Fairfax. Go ahead, I may.

Speaker 7 (04:11):
Or may not.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
This isn't that bad, Okay, but I may or may
not have eaten my husband's bag of potato chips and
then told him that he ate it and he forgot Okay,
Well that's not too bad. You may get a pass.
Yeah right, just a small window. Although you know I'd
be a little like, wait a second, did I what?
But who are we to judge naughty or nice? Which

(04:34):
list are you on?

where that opportunity might be, no matter what it could
be in It could be in your personal life, could
be in your work life.

then you can seize the opportunities ahead of you. So
don't wait for an opportunity. Build a door, Milton Burle
your morning mindset. Hopefully that helps, and if it does,
it might help someone else. So share it with whomever

seven point one WATCHEFM Jobey and Chilly in the morning,
and in less than twenty five minutes, our producer Taylor
say she's noticed something very very odd on the way
to work, something a little unusual. At least she feels
it's unusual. Find out what it is. Maybe you think
it's unusual too, or maybe not. Either way, we'll find
out together what it is is. Toby and Chilly in

(10:02):
the morning continues, don't move. It's something our producer Taylor
Shay has seen that as here feeling some sort of
way Toby and Chilly in the morning.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
It's ninety seven point one WATCHFM.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
So Taylor tell the class what it is that you
see on your way into work that's got you ponderous
this morning?

Speaker 6 (10:16):
Well long two seventy So if you get off two
seventy on Montrose. There is a guy that goes jogging
there every morning and I see him. I'm usually in
that area about two thirty or three o'clock in the
morning on my way into work, and I see him chilly.

Speaker 4 (10:28):
Do you see this guy? I've seen it once or twice,
and I always think to myself, is.

Speaker 5 (10:33):
He running away from something?

Speaker 3 (10:35):
Or I'm like, what is this guy?

Speaker 4 (10:37):
Rab?

Speaker 2 (10:38):
I don't Yeah, I don't know that I've seen that guy,
but I've seen multiple people out getting their morning run in.
Like I know that it's a thing when it comes
to some of these marathon runners, triathletes and more, they
get up in the morning because if you're going on
like a ten to twelve mile run, I guess it
does take some time.

Speaker 4 (10:56):
Well, I mean to something in the morning seems to
be very I don't know, dangerous time. Well.

Speaker 6 (11:02):
And he doesn't wear reflective clothing either.

Speaker 5 (11:05):
Well that's on him, no vest, no head.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
I do just think if you're gonna be running in
the middle of the night, or if you're gonna run
early in the morning when it's still dark eyed, you
need to do your part to be seen because you
just never know.

Speaker 4 (11:17):
If I saw a woman doing that, I would be
worried for her safety.

Speaker 5 (11:20):
Isn't that terrible for me to think that?

Speaker 4 (11:22):
A too something in the morning, if you're jogging out there,
Why do we assume that only bad things happen between
midnight and five are or.

Speaker 3 (11:29):
Do you have to order to women? I think it
could be anybody.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
I mean, like, if you're out there running around doing
your thing, I give you props for getting the cardio win.
But men, man, well man, whatever person hand. If you're
not like easily seen, that's a problem.

Speaker 5 (11:44):
Maybe we should get him a vest and just get
it to him.

Speaker 6 (11:47):
The two moms on the show are driving by like,
you're not safe, sir, let us get you some safety here.

Speaker 5 (11:51):
Merry Christmas.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
Here's a light for your head so that people can
see you anyway.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
What do you think? He's a little odd. Have you
seen anything like this on the to work? Maybe you're
one of these runners.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
If you have some thoughts you want to share with
the class, talkback's probably the best way to do.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
So, just tap speak send us a message. We always
love hearing from you.

Speaker 2 (12:08):

Speaker 2 (13:49):
I'm not asking any questions about extra pounds, man, that
would just not be just be just be rude and insensitive.

Speaker 5 (13:56):
Yeah, it all begins Halloween. Can we admit that? Always thirty.

Speaker 2 (14:01):
Again, not saying anything about the extra pounds, because that's
just just roade and uncouth.

Speaker 4 (14:07):
With whether you're talking about yourself or the average person. Nancy, Yes,

Stories Top of the Hour.

Speaker 4 (15:01):
President elect Trump says he does not want to break
up families in his mass deportation plans, but children born
in the US could be deported if their parents are
in the country illegally. However, Trump insisted he wants to
allow the so called dreamers, those brought to the US's
children and enrolled in the DACA program to remain in
the country. A civil lawsuit is naming Jay Z and

(15:22):
Sean Dinny Combs in connection with the rape of a
thirteen year old girl in two thousand. The accuser claims
the assault took place after she was driven to an
MTV Video Music Awards after party. A Waldorf Cracker Barrel
restaurant is under fire for the staff's alleged mistreatment of

(15:43):
a group of special education students and their escorts. The
Charles County School District claims that staff members refused seating
the students and then treated them rudely when they arrived.
Kraftcker Barrel has since issued an apology. Police and Montgomery
County are warning Honda owners about a spike in airbag thefts.
The item is reportedly very desirable on the black market,

(16:05):
since new airbags purchased from a Honda dealer can retail
for one thousand dollars each. And according to a list
compiled by Newsweek, the most popular Christmas song ever made
is Bing Crosby's White Christmas, which was officially released in
nineteen forty two. Other songs that topped the list include
Crosby's Silent Night and of course, Mariah Carey's all I

(16:28):
want for Christmas? Is you a forecast for today cloudy
with rain throughout the day, fifty to the high right
now forty in Chantilly.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
Since you want to talk about something you noticed yourself
starting to do in front of your son. There Chili
parents listening to ninety seven point one wasch FM gather
around because we can't talk about the kids.

Speaker 3 (16:48):
These chances are good you might have done this. But
what is it Chili.

Speaker 5 (16:52):
Saying bad words?

Speaker 3 (16:54):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (16:54):
Oh, you let it slip? Do you have alternatives?

Speaker 2 (16:57):
We'll get into this the words that Chili used in
front of her son and why she used them. And
we can't wait, of course, to hear what your alternative
curse words might be. Eight six six, ninety seven forty
three sixty one is the number. We'll get to that
coming up in just a bit, In fact, after eight o'clock.
Next though, a story that we think might just make
your Monday that involves not using curse language in front

(17:20):
of these kids, but doing something great for these kids
at the hospital to make your Monday. It's on the
way next to Toby and Chillian and the money continues. Now,
if you don't have a kid, you're just gonna have
to kind of play along with the class because we're
going to talk about something that I think parents who
have kids might have noticed themselves doing from time to time.
It's ninety seven point one waschfm 're Toby and chilling

(17:40):
in the morning, and this is chilli because you noticed
you used some curse language. I'm sorry, color from colorful
metaphors in front of your son, Donado.

Speaker 3 (17:49):
What's going on?

Speaker 4 (17:50):
Yeah, he's eleven, right, and I we really do not
curse at home, which is shocking that I could edit myself,
but we don't. And I let it fly accidentally, and
I looked over to see if he noticed, and he
didn't seem to respond. It happened again a couple of
days ago, and it was so jarring that he was like, what, okay.

(18:11):
Now it's becoming a pattern, and I need to stop
it because I grew up in a household where you
were never allowed to use such language. My parents never
use such language. And I don't want him to feel like,
it's okay, Why are you looking at me like that?

Speaker 5 (18:24):
Because you have a daughter who's older, Because.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
Yaes, I'm just imagining your son being like Mommy's You've
got a potty mouth.

Speaker 5 (18:30):
Uh huh exactly, and I don't want that. And you
have a you have a kid.

Speaker 4 (18:34):
How old was she when you first started being more comfortable.

Speaker 3 (18:38):
I can't tell you that I remember.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
I don't know because and that's probably a bad sign
and a bad admission because I didn't really pay attention
to it until I heard it used back in conversation
with me.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
And that was about in middle school.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
Like when my daughter replied, using a colorful metaphor, you
will well because you set the tone, I was like,
wait a minute, all right, hey, listen before Daddy doesn't care.
But I wouldn't say things like that, that one word,
that the one that sounds kind of like the duck
that goes black whack. I won't say that to teachers
other adults because they might look at you a little weird.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
Then they might come back on me.

Speaker 5 (19:13):
I don't want any of that to ever happen.

Speaker 4 (19:15):
Like even to this day, as a grown up, I
do not curse in front of my dad, like it
would be very very bad.

Speaker 2 (19:22):
I hear you. And even though I do in front
of my parents, I still remember number one getting my
mouth washed out with self for using some of that language.
And two, then when I got to using the alternate
swears by words, as my father used to call them,
there you go. Well I would use bywords, but they
to him in his mind were.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
The same thing.

Speaker 5 (19:41):
Oh no, no, no, the.

Speaker 2 (19:42):
Intention was clear what you were trying to say. And
so if you use a buy word, that's the same
thing as using the other word.

Speaker 4 (19:48):
I'm open to any suggestions, any byword suggestions that will
come naturally to me in those very intense moments of life.

Speaker 3 (19:56):
So shut the front door and pick up the phone.

Speaker 2 (19:59):
If you've got a few to ad eight sixty six
ninety seven forty three sixty one, we'll get to your
suggestions for chili. Next, we'll make a list and we'll
post it on the Toby and Chili page too. Tell
other parents who might have potty mouths that need to
find new ways to say things. And next, a story
that we think might just make your monday. It involves toys,
It involves the DC National Guard, and it involves joy

(20:23):
at Christmas. And for bonus points, it involves the kids
at Children's National Stay. Here the story will make your Monday.

Speaker 3 (20:32):
Here's a new phrase, toy rock.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
Now, how does this make your Monday, let's find out
it's ninety seven point one Wash FM, Toby and Chili
in the morning, So Chili backstory on this toy Rug
Toy Rock that happened over the weekend.

Speaker 4 (20:45):
So hundreds of Army National Guard members and volunteers on
Saturday delivered new toys to the children at Children's National
Hospital in DC where service members get together. They dress
infestive attire, they carey toys on a five mile march
from the Armory to the hospital.

Speaker 3 (21:04):
They've been doing this for two years. Here's how it
got it start.

Speaker 8 (21:07):
It started as an idea from one of our members
here within the Armory, and the idea has grown. Last
year we had two hundred volunteers and now we're up
to five hundred. So it's a great event that's gaining momentum.
It's our way of making sure that the people understand,
the people of DC understand that we're part of their community.

Speaker 3 (21:25):
That is Major General John c.

Speaker 2 (21:26):
Andioni, who's the interim Commanding General of the DC National Guard,
talking a bit about the event that happened over the weekend.

Speaker 5 (21:35):
And he's also telling us how the event was received.

Speaker 8 (21:38):
Wells has been huge, very positive. They want us back
every year. I think this is a good way for
us to, you know, even if it's only for a
morning in the middle of December, to take the children's
and the families minds off of their worries and to
give them a little love and joy, love and joy.

Speaker 2 (21:54):
Indeed, and it takes a little bit of time to
plan something like this.

Speaker 4 (21:58):
The planning for the Toy Rock starts in October, and
the success of this year's event has really inspired organizers
to aim even higher next year.

Speaker 2 (22:07):
So if you want to be a part of it,
maybe you want to contribute next year, what you need
to do is just keep an eye on all of
the ways social media, the Internet of things that the
Army National Guard in DC communicates with people. They'll let
you know when it's time to be a part of it.
But what is going to be so incredible to see
the joy on so many kids' faces a Children's National

(22:29):
when we're there later this week with our wash for
Kids Radiothon. Knowing how the community really steps up for
these kids is just such an amazing thing.

Speaker 3 (22:39):
And this is another example of that.

Speaker 4 (22:41):
And if you want to read more about the story
that made our Monday, you can find it on the
Toby and Chili page at washfm dot com.

Speaker 2 (22:47):
And if you've got a story that might just make
someone's Monday or make somebody's day, period, we would love
to hear all about it. Find us, you know where
we are, tell us everything and we'll make some noise
for you. Toby and Chilly in the morning at ninety
