Wash them always love to start today by talking about
something that has this feeling good before five Here at
ninety seven point one WASHFM Toby and Chili in the Morning.
But first things first, before we get to that chili,

For me, it's the simple fact of learning. You know,
they say in life, if you want to increase your
worth or you want to live a life that is fulfilled,
learn new things. And sometimes we have to make the
time to learn those new things. And it could be

(01:02):
really anything in life, right, you could learn how to
bake bread like we did during the you know, the lockdown,
or how to do different things online, or how to
create things with say Photoshop or one of these video editors.
And yesterday I finished a course in one of them.
That's got me feeling pretty good because even though I
haven't put a lot of the skills into practice yet,

(01:24):
it feels good to know you've got those skills now.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
That old dogs like us can learn new tricks. Right.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Well, there's nothing that says we're old, right, You're only
old when you stop learning. It's kind of like a
morning mindset, only a little bit early for you. And
so if you feel like you might be hearing the
footsteps of time catching up with you, go teach yourself
something new, or go take a class in something that
you don't know, because there's always something that you don't know,

(01:51):
and watch what it does when it opens up your mind. Anyway,

What you got Maybe this will help you, and if
it does, feel free to find it on the Toby
and chilipage at washchefm dot com and share it with
someone who might need it, like maybe you do this morning.
It's from Maya Angela, the Great poet Laureate of the
United States, several years ago. She says, if you find
it in your heart to care for somebody else, you
will have succeeded. If you find it in your heart

(04:57):
to care for somebody else, you will have succeeded. You know,
it is a problem in life, and we're all guilty
of it. We're all guilty of me idis. We're all
guilty of putting ourselves first when we really don't need
to be first. We need to look around and see
that there are other people along the way that can
help you become who you're going to become, or who

(05:18):
might need a little pick me up the way somebody
gave you one once upon a time. So if you
can find it in your heart to care for one
of those people, you will find success. So go ahead,
don't be afraid to shelve yourself today. You might just
unlock the greatest successes of your life, your career and more.

(05:38):
Maya Angelou thank you for those words to inspire this morning.
That is your morning mindset. And of course, if you've
got something that has inspired you, send it our way.
Go to the Toby and chilipage at washpm dot com,
share it with us and perhaps maybe you could inspire
and motivate us as we get into a brand new
day together here with Toby and Chili in the morning.
It is ninety seven point one wash CHEFM. We're coming

(06:01):
up in just a few minutes. Chilling Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
Yesterday off the air, you were telling me about an
oh no moment you had regarding your daughter flying back
to Boston.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
It was definitely an oh no moments where you realize
almost too late, that something could go seriously wrong. Have
you ever had one of those eight six, six, nine, two, seven,
forty three sixty one or the talkback microphone is wide
open if you want to share yours with us, and
you're signed into your iHeart app. We'll talk about these
oh no moments coming up. Did I tell you I

(06:33):
had an oh no moment over the weekend. It's ninety
seven point one WASHFM, Toby and Chilly in the morning.
True story. Oh no moments, by the way, those moments
where it just kind of hits you. Oh no, I
could be screwed.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
Oh god, Okay, so so many things could have happened
over the weekend. What is this about.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
On Sunday, Kylo was supposed to fly back to Boston
and sometime I guess it's Sunday. Based on weather for casts,
somebody at Southwest had decided to delay flights out of
BWI because the weather was supposed to be suspects, so
they kept pushing her flight back. Originally it was pushed

(07:12):
back to like nine o'clock at night, and they pushed
it to ten o'clock at night. Was supposed to be
at seven, and then all of a sudden, we get
this text and they're saying at five forty pm, yep,
your flight's now back on time. Please be ready to
go at the gate. Blah blah blah.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
So your daughter was supposed to originally fly out at
seven pm, and then you guys thought ten pm. So
you never left your house to go to the airport. No.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
In fact, when we got the message, we were sitting
in the living room. She was about to make a pizza.
Needless to say, she did not make the pizza.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
Oh no. Well, the question is did you make a flight?

Speaker 2 (07:45):
Yes, we hauled across the ICC and up ninety five
to get to BWI and literally got there, probably at
the last possible moment that you could. Like, it was
to the point where the flight was, you know, seating
and her bag. We didn't know if it was gonna
make it to Boston or not. Ultimately everything worked out

(08:06):
in the end, but it was an oh no moment,
And those just caused so much anxiety.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
Have you ever had one of those, not related to travel,
but related to accidentally texting the wrong person but in
your situation, Yeah, major anxiety attack.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Oh no, Michael, good morning, and thanks for listening to
Oxen Hill. Have you ever had an oh no moment?
So I was going to see my sister, her husband,
and my new nephew, and we got all the way
to the airport and I forgot my D.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
That is in oh no moment, especially since you can't
board a flight without an ID. But did you even
have your wallet with you?

Speaker 2 (08:43):
I'm a wallet, but my D was at home in
the drawarf. You got me saying oh no for you
this morning? Michael, Yeah, eight six, six, nine, two, seven,
forty three sixty one. Have you ever had an oh
no moment? What happened? You can tap the talk back

considered earlier in the hiring process. He believes that those
workers deserves a higher priority because they were targeted by
the Trump administration. Two Prince William County parents they're facing
charges after they left a twelve year old child home alone.
A school contacted police earlier this month after they learned
that the child's parents were out of town for five days.

(15:37):

in Montgomery County, the window for recovering that pet will

through some news events. Yeah, eight sixty six, ninet two, seven,
forty three, sixty one. If you have a news event
you can remember living through as a child, tell us
all about it, Chili, what was one that you remember?

Speaker 3 (17:23):
It was nineteen eighty one. I was in elementary school
and it was the assassination attempt against President Ronald Reagan
outside the Hilton Hotel in DC. And back then, there's
no social media, so you've got news coverage, You've got
people just sobbing on television. My parents were very upset
that this would happen to our national leader, and it

(17:45):
just made you feel unsafe as a kid.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
I remember feeling distraught at the Challenger disaster. President Reagan,
who you just mentioned, gave a national address about what
had happened, and it then made sense how just horrible
and how deep the pain really was that we had
to witness what we had to witness. I remember that
like it was yesterday. The Challenger disaster but year was
that chilling.

Speaker 3 (18:08):
Nineteen eighty six for the disaster in eeteen eighty six.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
It seems to me like we were more invested in
the news back then, once upon a time.

Speaker 3 (18:16):
Because that's all people had as a way to know
what was going on in the world. No phones, no smartphones.

Speaker 2 (18:23):

he was, but I thought it was fun to watch
a chase on TV.

Speaker 2 (18:37):
OJ That is very interesting. Janis, thank you for the
call this morning.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
Also, I'm not sure it was fun, you know, because
it was a very slow chase. It wasn't like a
movie high speed chase. It was the never ending chase.
Yeah right.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
The ultimately ended at OJ's house with OJ in the
car and he didn't get out for a while. But boy,
I remember that news they were all over.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
It, and then the trial. Well the century followed, but.

discussion topic among Internet conspiracy theorists and historians alike. The
Pentagon maybe removing nearly sixty thousand civilian jobs over the
next few months. A senior Defense official says the job

they believe that she drowned. The family of twenty year
old Sudiksha Konanki released a statement yesterday saying that they
have come to terms with her death and are now
asking for privacy. Facing a nearly three hundred million dollar
budget shortfall, Fairfax County now considering cutting sixteen high school

(20:35):
crossing guard positions. That change, however, would not impact elementary
or middle school crossing guards. According to a recent survey
of DC area restaurant owners, forty percent are worried they
may have to close before the end of this year.
Rising costs, fewer diners, and recent federal job cuts were

(20:56):
all cited as reasons for potential closures. According to another survey,
sixty four percent of Americans do not want to know
their favorite celebrities political affiliation, and it's not just famous people.

living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania? And I remember the towers got
hit and watching it on the news my parents, and
it kept me home from school because of it. And
then there was this other plane and everybody in Pittsburgh

(23:15):
thought it was coming for us for.

Speaker 1 (23:16):
Some reason, but then it crashed next to us. That
was crazy.

Speaker 6 (23:20):
I remember just sitting there watching the TV of my parents.

Speaker 2 (23:23):
I think we all remember seeing that on TV that day.
Thank you, Mike for jumping into the conversation. Suzette, good morning,
and thank you for listening in Silver Spring. How about
that news event.

Speaker 5 (23:34):
The gasoline crisis in the seventies, You remember that, Yeah?
I do, because I remember my parents just complained about
how expensive gas was and just waiting in these long
lines to get gas with my parents.

Speaker 3 (23:47):
Dang, I can't imagine having to wait in that kind
of line.

Speaker 2 (23:49):
Well, it sounds to me like people who are waiting
to get eggs at the grocery store. Yeah, what more?
