Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, here we go, Thank you for listening, Mark Blazer,
Chuck Douglas, and.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Did you wear green yesterday? I'm not Irish.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
I've never been Irish.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
I'm not.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
I don't do it.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
You don't participate.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
Huh, that's their thing, man, let them Okay. Yeah, I
hope that all the people out there who are of
Irish just since celebrating Saint Patrick's Day had a wonderful
Saint Patrick's Day. But I'm not going to appropriate their
culture just because you know, Hallmark says I should.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Is that a Hallmark thing? I didn't even realize.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
I have no idea.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
It's just a reason for people to drink extra. That's it.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
That's all it is. I feel like, look, that's it.
That's everywhere that's connected with it. It's like drink more
and because it's green, drink more.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
And I'm not. You know, I've never I've never been
an Irish or a Saint Patrick's Day guy.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Yeah, yeah, I can actually see that. I just knowing you.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
I didn't really know that until you just said it,
but just knowing you, I'm like, oh, color me not
surprised that you're like, I'm not participating in that, especially
because it's a it's really a silly, let's just drink
more kind of day. And that's it. You know, that's
really the basic at least in the States, it is.
It feels like anyway here in the United States, somebody,
(01:16):
I'm guessing he's part of our best Buckeye coverage. Somebody
who was not also not participating in Saint Patrick's Day,
would be one Roy Hall who's joining us?
Speaker 2 (01:25):
Now? Am I right on that? Roy?
Speaker 4 (01:28):
Is it because I'm black or what? No?
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Because Chuck just said he's not and I know you're
not a drinker.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
He sat down with the Fialao mcfish though.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
Is that irish?
Speaker 3 (01:39):
It is when you say mcfish?
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:41):
Hey man, you hey, listen, Fellas, you know, you know,
the Bras don't celebrate, you know, Saint Patty's Day.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Man, Like I beg the differ. I beg the difference.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
Listen, you don't. You don't want to make the mistake
of drinking green beer with your white friends. There's a
problems just not It's not a good situation. We're not
designed for things like that, you know what I mean? Like,
come on, man, like, hey man, come on, you should
come down and hang out with us. That's how you
get in trouble.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Yeah, I will say this, roy back. I mean you
go back to your college days and you.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
Were in that way.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
Well right, you're inundated by that stuff and you're like, man,
get away from me. I'm not I'm not participating in it.
I know you're not a drinker, you know as well.
So that's a drinking holiday, it really is.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
Yeah, I mean, but in college though, you know you're
a drinker, you know what I mean. And that's where
you get in trouble. Yes, you get it, you get it.
You get into trouble when you start going to drink
with the with the offensive lineman, and then it's it's
an issue. You stick with the receivers, and you'll be
in trouble. I mean you'll be Okay, you get in
trouble when you drink with.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
Why is that? Why is that?
Speaker 4 (02:44):
Man?
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Because they way more, I.
Speaker 4 (02:46):
Mean they drink more.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
They wait, yeah, yeah, okay, okay, the whole receivers order bottles,
defensive linemen order kegs.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
Hey, exactly exactly, and.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Then it turns into shenan after that, right, and then
people start getting hurt because they're just messing around and
you got all this stuff.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
No, that's what happens when you go hang out. Nobody
gets hurt when I go out. I don't know what
that's about.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Well, I mean hurt. You were saying that the Linemen
are bigger than you know and all that.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
So I just figure you get a whole bunch of
big people that start trying to mess around and do that,
somebody ends up hurt, you know, And.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
Yeah, somebody gets their feelings hurt for sure.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Anyway, So how you been everything? Good?
Speaker 4 (03:27):
Man? I'm doing well, man, Just so just having a
good time and life is good. This is this is
a heavy season for speaking engagements for me and challenging
a lot of these big time businesses and companies around
the country. And I was local here today with a
company called rain One and had an opportunity to speak
to their entire team, which is awesome. And on May
twenty second, we got Archie Griffin two time, the only
(03:51):
two time Heisman when it's trophy winner. And also CJ.
Stroud speaking at my leadership conference here at five to
fourteen Church on May twenty second, So I'm ex about that, man.
So it's just a busy time with serving still man.
We got our appter school program rolling over at Johnson's
Park Middle School off a Living cent It's awesome. Man.
We've got twenty five kids in the program. There a
(04:12):
bunch of in school stuff. It's is a time to serve,
a time to give back, a time to make a difference, man,
and really make the most out of every opportunity to
help people's lives.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
Man Driven Foundation is doing well. I'm hearing it and
that's great. It's fantastic. The other thing, do you ever
think to yourself, You're like, man, I'm friends with some
really you know, influential people, some people who are really
doing things. Like I mean when you talk about I
know you're friends with Archie and then you just mentioned
(04:41):
CJ and all that. It like, do you ever stop
and think? Because people will ask me that too over
the years, like with musicians and I've did rock radio
and all kinds. I've been at radio for thirty seven
years and people will go, do you ever stop and think?
Speaker 2 (04:53):
So? Do you ever stop and think?
Speaker 4 (04:55):
Roy?
Speaker 1 (04:55):
Like, Man, I'm incredibly blessed. I think I know the answer,
but do.
Speaker 4 (04:58):
You Yeah, I got two answers real quick. You know
how my brain goes. First of all, you're not just
about to slide over the fact that you said thirty
seven thirty seven years. My goodness, man, you are old
as dirt.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Me receipt every day.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
I know, thirty seven years. That is unbelievable. Goodness man,
But no, that's all. That's actually that's actually a blessing, brother,
be able to do what you do for that long
streak with it. But no, it's it's absolutely a blessing.
But the other side of it is they're human beings.
And you know, when you've been one of the guys
that people look at as a guy at one point
(05:37):
in your life, you know you try and be as
normal as possible. Now we've we've been blessed. And I
say we the guys that played at Ohio State have
this tremendous platform that that God has given us to
be able to play football, but also to leverage that
to make a difference. And when you start to bond
and bond with like minded individuals, the same kindred spirit, man,
(05:59):
you can make some amazing things happens to people. So,
I mean, I know some great people and connected to
some awesome people. We're all a phone call away from
speaking to the who's Who of the world. Yeah, but
when you realize you're just dealing with people, man, and
you treat people with kindness and compassion, and you know,
you make sure you have good character. They have good character. Man.
It's just you're a human being, man. So good things
(06:22):
happen to everyone. Bad things happen sometimes, and you just
want to make sure you be there. So it's a
blessing to know these guys, man. But they're real, true
friends and I'm appreciative of the relationships.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
Yeah, that's really cool. So coach day one thing he's
saying about this quarterback core that is that we are
on the cusp of seeing somebody here out of the three.
But they're all talented. The ball comes out of their hand. Well,
they're good athletes. A lot to be determined, and we
got a bunch of spring practices that are happening through
the middle of next month. Lincoln keenholds, I think I'm
(06:55):
saying that right, tav and Saint Clair and Julian saying
these are these are the three guys, and you know
who's going to be first, second, third. I mean, your
thoughts on these three guys as we're getting right, because
a lot of people don't know a lot about them,
including me right now.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
Yeah, and you'll get a chance to know those guys.
I mean, obviously at the quarterback position. One of the
things that stood out that Coach Day said yesterday and
expressler was the fact that the quarterback has to be
the hardest working person in the building and they have
to be there early, be there first, and be their
last one to leave. And sometimes that stuff goes on
as like a cliche standpoint, It comes off as just
something good to say, But it's gonna like pop up
(07:34):
real soon. Who wants that job because they have to
come in and do it day in and day out,
and not just leading with their words or leading by
showing up early. They gotta get on the field and
throw dimes all day every day and not turn the
ball over. So I'm glad we got three guys competing.
You never know what's gonna happen. From an injury standpoint,
I love threes, man. I love when McDonald's had the
(07:55):
triple cheeseburger. That was awesome. You get us a good three. Yeah,
you know, I ran a four to three in my
forty yard dash from Pro Day, which is coming up
for the Ohio State buck Eys. And you know, one
of my favorite shows growing up watching with my grandmother
with Three's Company. So either way, we got three, we
got three opportunities to see what these guys could do.
You've got five star, five star, five star, and all
(08:16):
these guys are gonna be able to kind of show
what they what they can do. The problem is, and
the challenge is, if you find yourself as the third
guy on the depth chart when you come out of
the spring, do you stick around or do you hop
in that transfer portal in that spring window to get
up out of here.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
They're leaving.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
I'm telling you they're going to transfer right out because
all three of these it's an embarrassment of riches I
that we have with these three guys. So I feel
like I don't even know if number two is gonna
stay cause you know what, think about this roy all
of them have to be thinking I'm the guy, I'm
the one who should be starting.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
If they're not thinking that, then they probably shouldn't be here.
They shouldn't be there or here, or however you want
to put it.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
So I feel like if they don't get the star,
they're going, I'm gonna start.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
I'm a starter. I'm leaving. That's how I think that's
want to leave.
Speaker 4 (09:06):
Though.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
Two is in a wonderful bargaining position because you must
have that redundancy just in case. Got to have that
backup ready to go.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
Yeah, you gotta have guys in place. The thing is
hard now is with the transfer portal on this nil money.
You know, our number two and number three obviously can
start pretty much anywhere in the country, and so when
you're looking for a quarterback coming out of the spring,
depending on the team's situation, you know, like I look
at a guy like Lincoln who's been here for two
or three years already, I don't know if he would
want to sit another year and then maybe another year
(09:36):
just as a backup. You know, Tavian he's only a freshman,
so he has time, right, so he's like he's just
getting his feet wet. He's just happy to be out there.
But I'm looking at Lincoln like, hey man, like, if
he doesn't win that job, does he want to be
a backup another year? And then kind of that I
think would be a third or fourth year of eligibility.
So it's gonna be interesting how it plans out. But
(09:59):
if you're Lincoln and they're given, you know, two million,
two point five million to the best quarterback, three million,
four million to the best quarterbacks in the nation. If
they offer you a half a million dollars, you know,
it might be hard to turn that down to go
play and say, like, I don't know, maybe like a
Colorado type school in that situation, the Texas Tech where
(10:19):
it's not as high a quality football as it is
at Ohio State, but definitely can get you on the map.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
Yeah, that's that is something that everybody needs to brace for.
I feel like, and that's that's well laid out right there.
But let's face it, you know, if they don't win
the starting job, I really feel like they're they're gone.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Now you you've probably spoken to.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
Them, or you know them, or you're friends with them,
or all of the above, I would say, Roy. So
it's an interesting take for sure, But man, it's completely
changed with the portal and nil and every single time,
and that increases the pressure on the coaches, the people
that are picking the quote unquote starter, because you know,
you picked the starter, and then you know the people
(11:01):
that you didn't pick go somewhere and light it up,
you know. And that's always been the case, I think
over the last couple of years anyway, But I feel
like more now than ever, the pressure is on to
really pick the correct person.
Speaker 4 (11:14):
You know, there are so many options and there's so
much pressure. I was in the drive through the other
night at McDonald's and you look at the menu and
I just remember to get up the day when it
was like three or four selections. But there's so many
different things, man, that it's so much pressure. I ended
up ordering a fish filet and a double cheeseburger only
(11:35):
catch up. How do you eat ground beef which is
not really beef or whatever? It is not there fish
like my stomach, man like, I could only eat half
and half. But the fact that it was so I
was sweating, man, And then I already got to tell
them I one prize with no salt, just to make
them fresh. You know, it's just so much think about.
And then the drive throughs they merge into one. You
(11:58):
don't know who's supposed to go first. It's just so
much pressure. So if I felt that way is just
picking off something to eat, I can only imagine what
it feels like to pick out who's going to be
the start in the quarterback coming out of the spring
that has to take the Buckeye to try and get
a back to back champions Do.
Speaker 2 (12:15):
They do that? Do they do that? Is it a
two peet?
Speaker 1 (12:18):
Will we get a two peet out of DraftKings has
installed Ohio State is a three point favorite over Texas already,
and so that's obviously our first game, and that kind
of pressure on top. I don't know that I like that.
I don't really want to start at the front. I
feel like the pressure. There's more pressure starting out as
(12:38):
the expected as opposed to, you know, kind of coming
from behind a little bit.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
Well, of course. But the thing is when you win
a national championship the way that we did, and we've
been talking to I love it. I love the swag,
I love the confidence, I love the energy, I love
the moxie. I love the feel of the Woody Hayes facility.
I was just down with the spring practice yesterday. I
love everything that we got going. But the challenge is
is when you win, now all of a sudden, everybody
feels like they want to knock you off. Like it's
(13:04):
not it used to be this Ohio State let's go
in and get get a victory. Now it's they won
a national title and they bringing all these top dolls back,
Caleb Downs, Jeremiah Smith, and everyone's talking about us. We're
probably gonna come out ranked in the top three obviously,
maybe even number one. And so when Texas comes in here,
they gonna remember how we beat them in the Cotton Bowl.
(13:25):
So you know, it's a lot of pressure on us.
The other thing is, ladies, you got like when you
win and you're on top and you get that ring,
Like now, all of a sudden, you got complacency that
wants to bring its and rear its dirty head up
and get you to be thinking, Man, you the best,
You're the top dog. Look at that ring on your finger.
Look at look at those three rings on your fingers
because you getting a big You're getting all these national
(13:47):
championship rings. They get like three of them. And so
now you're looking at the banners. Coach Day pointing out
all the banners and beating all these teams, and you
feel like you've arrived. And my receivers coach when I
was at Ohio State, Darryl Hazel, had a game, a
decent game against Texas and he said, Hey, never feel
like you've arrived. And I never forgot that, like you
(14:08):
can never you can never be satisfied with winning, Like
you just have to figure out a way to trick
yourself into thinking you're not that good so that you
can continue to have that same hungry.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
Yeah, Tiger Woods is a shining example of that. He's
a guy kept revamping, reinventing, redoing everything, and he just
kept winning, win and win and winning. And I don't
think that that guy never bought into what everybody else
was buying into, which is this is the greatest golfer
to ever pick up a golf club.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
And that I feel like.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
Is a is a really good Uh that's that's a
good dynamic to use to utilize and the way you
kind of put it is exactly I feel like the
way it should happen. Stay driven dot org for all
things Roy Hall and everything that you got going. Man,
everybody checked that out, and man, you have so much
stuff coming up. I'm I'm honored that you took a
(14:57):
couple of minutes man to hang out with us and
talk about guys.
Speaker 4 (15:00):
And start proposing to me on the air. Bro stuff
all that honored stuff. Man, friends, I know, but.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
I mean it.
Speaker 4 (15:07):
No, I'm just teasing, you know. I like when you
say night time things about me. Brother. I appreciate you guys. Now,
you guys are often bring me on more often. Man,
I need I need a seat at the table.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
That's what I want to Okay, You're welcome anytime you get.
Speaker 4 (15:19):
All for a food segment. That's what I want to be.
All right.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
McDonald's to talk about though, Yeah, well, I mean he
should be built like Grimace with as much McDonald's talk
about this.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
I say this to him all the time. I'm like, dude,
He's like, it's all about ports and control. Brother, it's
all You heard him. He didn't even eat all of
the sandwiches the two we order. Yeah, he ate half
and half.
Speaker 3 (15:42):
He mentioned two sandwiches, and I got a little indigestion.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
Chuck broke out into food. Sweats man, that's good stuff.
He's part of our best Buckeye coverage. And Roy Hall
again at Stay Driven Dot Organ. Oh there he goes, Okay, Roy.
Speaker 3 (15:58):
He's probably sitting to the drive through waiting to order
insultless fries.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
He was waiting to eat. He was like, all right,
I'm done, all right, that's it, Vibe Blazer. You didn't
even say bye. He's like, I got food to eat,
is getting cold
