Ever wondered what goes on in your spouse’s head? Or what drives their actions and behaviors? This week on All Together: The Family Science Insights Podcast, host Dina Sargeant is joined by associate professor Claudia Haase, Ph.D. to explore the emotional mysteries that prevail in marriage and its impact on family.

Combining insights and paradigms from affective, life-span developmental, and relationship science, Claudia Haase, Ph.D. studies pathways towards happy and healthy development across the lifespan with a focus on emotions in individuals and couples. Her work employs a slew of methods—from autonomic physiology, and behavioral observations, to subjective emotional experience assessments and linguistic markers—age-diverse samples, diverse study designs, as well as single-subjects and dyadic approaches. Most impressively, her research has been funded by a number of foundations and institutions, including the National Institute of Mental Health.

In this episode, Claudia Haase, Ph.D. reveals the importance of understanding emotions within a marriage, and the common emotional mysteries that dominate most marriages. That aside, she lists warning signs that such mysteries might be headed for more significant problems.

Together, Dina and Claudia Haase, Ph.D. discuss the various exercises and activities couples can engage in to decode each other’s emotional systems and improve their communication skills. So, tune in this week to unwind as we untangle the emotional mysteries in marriage, and explore best practices for emotional intimacy!
