Die letzten 250 Jahre haben eine massive Umgestaltung in Australien gebracht. Bauwerke wie der Hume-Staudamm stellten dabei zunächst ein Versprechen für die Zukunft dar. Eine technologische Utopie, in der die Menschen frei von Mängeln sind, keine natürliche Grenzen haben und unglaubliche Freiheitspotentiale besitzen. Dies sagt unser Gast Daniel Rothenburg, Historiker an der Universität Tübingen. Andreas Sienz und Tobias Rotzinger reden mit ihm über die Identitätsstiftende Wirkung eines solchen Bauwerks, die ökologischen und sozialen Folgen und den Versuch einer Legitimation dieses Land besiedeln zu dürfen. Dabei kommen auch aktuelle Fragen nicht zu kurz. Wo liegen die Grenzen einer wissenschaftlichen und technischen Naturbeherrschung? Gab es eine Form der Wiedergutmachung, für die dort vertriebenen Menschen? Und wie kann man vor dem Hintergrund zukünftiger Umweltkatastrophen in Australien nachhaltig leben?
