ABOUT BOB MAROVICH
Robert M. Marovich is founder and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Gospel Music (www.journalofgospelmusic), and host of the award-winning weekly radio show “Gospel Memories” on Chicago’s WLUW-FM. He is the author of A City Called Heaven: Chicago and the Birth of Gospel Music (University of Illinois Press, 2015) and Peace Be Still: How James Cleveland and the Angelic Choir Created a Gospel Classic (University of Illinois Press, 2021). He was nominated for a Grammy Award, Best Album Notes, for 2019’s The Gospel According to Malaco and again in 2021 for The King of Gospel Music: The Life and Music of the Reverend James Cleveland, both published by the Malaco Music Group.
Marovich’s writing has been published in Chicago History, the Association for Recorded Sound Collections Journal, the Chicago Reader, Living Blues, The Voice, Blues & Rhythm: The Gospel Truth, and the New York Times. In 2021, he was inducted into the Gospel Industry Network Hall of Fame and received a Legacy Award from Chicago’s historic Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. He received the Rhythm of Gospel Awards in 2018 and 2021.
