What Is the California Promise Grant?
The California Promise Grant is a state-sponsored financial aid program that helps eligible students attending California community colleges by waiving enrollment fees. If you’re a California resident and apply for financial aid, there’s a good chance you could qualify.
Here’s how it works: Normally, a full-time student enrolling in 12 units at a California community college would owe $552 in enrollment fees.
If that student receives a Promise Grant, they would owe $0 per unit—effectively eliminating this cost.
Additional Benefits Beyond Tuition
The Promise Grant does more than just waive enrollment fees. It can also:
- Help cover student parking permits
- Make you eligible for additional campus support programs, such as EOPS (Extended Opportunity Programs and Services), which offers academic counseling, financial support, and more
