Speaker 1 (00:00):
And a happy Wednesday friend. Welcome to the Thought Shower.
Intern John is my name. Gonna be a busy day
for your boy today. Kind of looking forward to it.
Some things kind of fell together. First of all, after
the show, going golfing my buddy DJ Rise aka Brandon
is his real real name, obviously. I don't know why
(00:22):
I had to explain that, obviously his name is not
DJ Rise. I guess it could be it's not. And
my buddy Dante as well, which I'm very excited about.
You know, Dante my first friend I made really in
the DMV. He came to the restaurant this past week
and surprised me, which is very exciting. So I opened
up some buddies a restaurant in Clarendon called Hide Social.
(00:47):
Come out and see us. It's fantastic, and this weekend
was a grand opening. I was inside talking to people.
My buddy Shane came out and it's like, hey, you
need to go outside right away. I thought that meant
something was wrong, something was happening. Now. Dante surprised me.
He drove an hour just to come see me. So
after the show to day going golfing with with DJ
Rise and Dante that asking me a lot of fun.
(01:09):
Then I'm well, it's gonna be a bit of like
a all over the place. I go home first, let
the dogs out, go golfing, come back to the radio station.
Then I'm gonna uber to the restaurant to have a
little happy hour in some meetings there. Then go into
the Capitol's game tonight with DJ Rise and our buddy
(01:29):
Ryan as well, so for some business stuff there. So it's, uh,
it's a grind today, you know. And it's it's interesting
now with the bar stuff and hockey starting for me,
people asking like how do you do it? How do
you balance stuff? And it's like, man, the the flip
side is is it a lot of time? Yes? However,
(01:53):
if I wasn't this busy, that would mean business wasn't good,
do you know what I mean? So that's kind of
I think like the the miss misinformation miss notion about work,
I guess, or at least this line of work. It's
like once you get to a perceived mountaintop, not that
(02:13):
I'm there yet, the work doesn't stop, you know what
I mean. It's it's it's like you work so hard
to get your chance and then once you get a chance,
you have to keep working to keep the chance, do
you know what I mean. There's always that notion in
the music industry that you know, your first hit single
is hard, but that second one is even harder, because yeah,
(02:34):
I keep working. And I do think that's the problem,
because it's like you get a little bit of success,
there's like that idea of like I should just you know,
slow down a little bit. It's like, nah, you can't
get I keep going. I mean, granted, is it hard work,
No can I'd be doing things much more difficult. Absolutely,
I'm sure you do it every single day. But I'm
excited for tonight. Get me kind of a fun mix
(02:55):
of everything. I'm excited too. We're like, what, uh, ten
days away if my album coming out, which is crazy
crazy crazy. If you get a chance of pre order,
it's six bucks that includes a bonus joke. My dad
includes the song as well. Internsoncomedy dot com. That's Internsgoncomedy
(03:15):
dot com. I want to get to this for your Wednesday.
I thought it was wildly fascinating the delusions that narcissists
hold about themselves and the world about them. Starting with
they always think they are the smartest person in every
single room, which at that point I do believe they
(03:37):
believe that. But at that point it's like, why even
go into the room. If you're the smartest one there,
you have nothing to learn. I'd be worried that the
dumb people might, you know, taint your view on things,
might steal your brains. They say it in their mind,
no one even comes closed. They believe that they're genius
in every room, regardless of the facts. The delusions. Why
(03:59):
they interrupts, talk over you in meetings and never ask
for help. I see this all the time, and to me,
it's almost it's an obvious thing, whereas you lack so
much social cue. It's just like, I don't think anybody
comes across smart meetings who tries to be that way,
do you know what I mean? There's just no way.
It's also too, it's like in the business sense, it's like, hey,
(04:23):
sir madam, if you were as smart as you think
you are, you wouldn't be here. You be creating Facebook
in your dorm. They believe everyone is jealous of them. Yeah,
when people don't like them, narcissists convince themselves it's because
everyone is jealous. It can't possibly be their of notxious
behavior or constant neat for validation. In their eyes, it's
(04:45):
because others are envious of greatness. This is just triggering
me right now. I've worked with folks like this. I've
been friends of folks like this, where it's like, no,
I'd rather just be me. You know, I'm good, I'd
rather be me. Yeah, nobody wants to hang out with
you because they're jealous. That makes sense maybe when you're six,
(05:06):
now when you're an adult. They believe rules don't apply
to them. Narcissists operate in their own set of rules,
meaning there are none. They cut lines, break promises, blow
up past boundaries because they honestly believe in special expectations.
I've always noticed this, Like, if you're in public and
somebody cuts you in line, I rarely will say something
because to me, the way the world is now, if
(05:28):
somebody is that oblivious to like common rules, yeah that
we all follow. You don't know what they're gonna do,
you know what I mean? Is it worth a fight? No?
They believe they're more important than you are. Narcissists generally
believe that their time, opinions, and feelings mattered more than
anybody else's. If they're talking, you better listen. If they
(05:49):
have a problem, it's a crisis. They have this weird
sense that the world revolves around them, and they get
offended when they're not treated like royalty. Yeah. I also
think too that this is a way if you're a
leadership position, to make it so that nobody wants to
work for you. You know what I mean, that nobody
wants to do what you ask because you value yourself
(06:11):
way more. That's why my biggest pet peeve has always
been time, like being on time, because I don't want
to waste anybody's time. I wantnybody to waste my time.
But I've had to deal with folks where it's like
they would intentionally do things to make everybody else wait
for the sole reason they could like flex power, and
like it did not go over well. It was very
(06:34):
because it's like it doesn't make you seem busy, It
makes it seem like you're intentionally holding things back. You know.
They believe they deserve constant praise. Well I do. I
definitely do, because I'm very humble and hard working. In
their minds, narcissists are walking around just waiting for the
world to shower them with compliments where they've done something
(06:54):
worth praiser or not as irrelevant they expected. And if
they don't get the applause they think they deserve, they'll sell,
complain or lash out, complain that people are being unfairly critical.
But it's also too like. The flip side of that
coin is, if you're dealing with narcissists who acts like
they are God's gift, why would you think they need
(07:15):
more praise? You know what I mean? Because the vibe
you're giving off is you don't need anything. You're smart,
you're better, you're more advanced. Why would I think you
need that type of praise. Narcissists believe they have nothing
to learn. Of course they know everything, right, They believe
they already know everything. The feedback if they don't want it,
(07:36):
constructive criticisms just a personal attack. In their world, they're
already perfect, so what's the point of learning or improving?
Makes it difficult? You know, I've always said with the
Morning Show, it's like, if we ever have a perfect show,
we should just retire because they will never happen again.
You know what I mean, It'll never happen again. So
(07:56):
it's also I've always kind of had the belief. It's like,
if you believe you can't get better at something, why
do you keep doing it? You know, if I thought
that I had perfected radio, I would get bored. I
couldn't do it every day and be perfect. They'd be
boring as hell. They believe they are the exception to
(08:17):
every rule. They say. If there's one thing narcissists love
as being special, they genuinely believe rules, deadlines, and even
social norms don't apply to them. If you need them
to follow a process, they'll find a way to bend
in their favor. To me, the biggest thing is the
social norms. I think that's the hugest thing because we
all kind of know how I behave normally. But again,
(08:38):
like the narcissists, like, we know it's not good to
make people wait for you. I think that's an odd
thing to do. But to believe that that's a power move,
it's an odd It's an odd thing almost where it's
like you don't want to get inside their mind. You know,
it'd be a bad place to be in, scary place
(08:59):
to be into. The final thing about narcissists, they believe
the world revolves around them. At the core of it,
narcissists believe the world exists for their benefit. They think
everyone else is here to serve their needs, prop their ego,
and play a role in their story. I think that's fair,
and I think we all know somebody who's like that,
and it is. It is an odd It's an odd
(09:20):
vibe if you're driving around traffic to not have that
realization that everybody else in traffic with you has their
own life that they are the sorrow of. Like I
couldn't imagine driving out and being like, these people don't
realize how lucky they are to be in my story.
What an odd way to live. My goodness, If you
a gave chance, My album comes out next week. The
(09:41):
pre sale going on right now. It's so important. If
we have a good pre sale, we have a chance
of having the number one comedy album in the world,
which is crazy. You can pre order Internjoncomedy dot com.
It's six bucks benefits the Fisherouse Foundation. That's Internsgoncomedy dot com.
