Speaker 1 (00:00):
Dared ms Brie and Clint Podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
That's our radio show, but wrapped up in a neat
little package just for you.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
It's Dared, ms Bri and Clint Podcast.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
I saw this story about this woman over in Melbourne
that I thought was quite relatable, where she was trying
to cancel her gym membership. Her circumstances had changed. She'd
moved away from the gym that she had a membership
at and she was like, I need to cancel it.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Did she move to get away from having to go
to her gym? Potentially she hate going to the gym
so much. She changed suburbs. Potentially, we don't know.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
And that's commitment. Yeah, you know.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
We've got some audio of her talking about how difficult
it was to cancel her gym membership.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
We begin the dance with me saying I'm like to cancel.
I have to bake in an extra hour of a
commute to be able to do the gym now. So
she then tells me, and this is the important bit,
that the only way that I can cancel my gym
membership is by coming in person and hand filling out
of form. I say no, thank you, because I don't
have the time to do an hour commute to the
gym to cancel it. But I understand that is what
I have to do now and thank you so much,
but it doesn't sit right with me. So this morning
(01:05):
on my walk, I start looking through the terms and
conditions that's like linked to me in my email where
I originally signed up. And as you will see, you
may cancel your membership in writing by email, like very
simply put out there.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
That's so evil and definitely illegal. That's so illegal because
we can't do that.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
What are you saying, you can't email me the form
if I have to have to have to have to
fill out this form, send it to me.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
M yeah, and we live out the year twenty twenty six.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
Like you're telling me that the only way I can
cancel it is you know this happened to me recently
with my phone plan over and Bloody Australia.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
Yeah yeah, yeah yeah, and they came in store.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
They were like, the only way you can cancel this
is if you come in store.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
I'm like, I live in New Zealand and I have
done for six years. Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Gym membership contracts quite terrifying when you think about that
They're very daunting. The ones that I've entered into into
the past are like it's twelve months and if you leave,
we will kill you.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Like I've never committed to that amazing that long. Ever,
they're like, you can you can come. You can pay
us forty dollars.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
A week to come to this gym, and you pay
us that forty dollars every week for a year. But
if you decide that you don't want to pay us anymore,
you have to pay us three hundred dollars.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
How does that work? Who came up with these rules? Raulation?
How does that work? You know? Who came up with it?
Speaker 2 (02:34):
If I want to stop paying you, I have to
pay you more.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
No, No, but that's only if you get out early,
because you're obviously causing us and inconvenient on what I'm
buying the kool aid.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
I'm now on the gym side.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
I've seen other people's gym memberships for sale on trade
me really where they're like, I'm signed up to this gym.
There's it's a twelve month contract. There's nine months left. Me,
I will sell it to you for six months and
just so I can get out of it.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Yeah, just so I can get out of doing it anymore.
That's so interesting, Ray, Yeah, and that's why I think
a lot of people just let it ride.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
You know, you go, I'm not the person I was
when I decided I want to get fit anymore.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
So I'm not going to go to the gym.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
But I'm also not going to cancel the membership because CBF.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Oh just yeah, just for the same reason I don't
go to the gym. CBS CBF, CBS is too hard.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
I just can't be Well, maybe you've got the gym
membership that you're paying because you believe deep down that
next week is the week starting Monday, new diet, new
workout plan.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
That's why I've got my gym membership. One day, one day,
I'm going to go back, new gym clothes. I don't
know when it's going to be.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
New drink bottle, new drink bottle as well. I'll get
you there, isn't it. That's the bit I was missing
last time. I didn't have the right drink bottle.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
You shoes for me? Oh yeah, Oh, you didn't have
the right that's right, new shoes.
Speaker 5 (04:00):
If you had the right shows, you would every day, Yeah,
you'd be every day we thought we could ask people
this afternoon on eight hundred dials at him, what is
the membership or the subscription?
Speaker 3 (04:13):
What's the thing you know you should cancel but you
just CBF?
Speaker 1 (04:18):
How long you had it? Yeah? How much you're paying
for it?
Speaker 3 (04:23):
Podcast talking about this woman who tried to cancel her
gym membership over in Melbourne because she moved an hour away.
Pretty good reason to cancel the gym membership. The lady
the gym said, Unfortunately, the only way you can cancel
the membership is if you come into the gym in
person and.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
To the death we will wrestle a cage match, and
if you get a three second submission on one of
our staff, you can cancel your membership.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
It reminds me of that episode of Friends where Chandler
tries to cancel his gym membership and then he said
to Ross it's just easier if I don't, and then
Ross is like, oh, I'll come and help you cancel it,
and then Ross ends up getting a gym membership.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
It's very relatable.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
So we asked, what's a subscription you should have canceled?
Ebby's on the phone, High Abbey, Hi Abby.
Speaker 6 (05:14):
Hi, Brie Hi, Clint, how are you guys?
Speaker 1 (05:16):
Good made? How are you?
Speaker 6 (05:18):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (05:18):
I'm good good?
Speaker 1 (05:19):
What are you locked into? Ebbie? What's the sub you
should have canceled?
Speaker 7 (05:23):
So in the second Lockdown, like four years ago, I
got really really into playing the SIMS I hear, so
I got. I bought like so I'm not even kidding this,
probably about twenty of them. I bought so many different
subscriptions for people that stell like like clothes that you
(05:43):
can buy for your Oh.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
My god, gotcha, like a third party add on things
to this.
Speaker 6 (05:50):
Yeah, you downloaded to your computer and then it shows
up in your SIMS game. And I played them for
about two weeks, and that I gathered up my MANI
my many mini subscriptions. But and I stopped, and I
didn't stop my subscriptions. But the issue is they're only
like three dollars or four dollars a month.
Speaker 7 (06:09):
They're not big subscriptions.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
So how long have you had them, though, Abby?
Speaker 6 (06:14):
Since twenty two?
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Okay, so wait, so let's figure this out. So you say,
let's say it's three years. Let's say four dollars a
month over four.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
Years, Clinton, it's not that bad. It's one hundred and
ninety two dollars over four years.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
That's a good night out. But how many of you got?
You said they're four dollars each. How many of you got?
Speaker 6 (06:33):
I was hoping you wouldn't ask, Yeah, how many? I
want to say. It's it's close to thirty.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Abbey, Abbey, Abbey.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
I can't.
Speaker 6 (06:44):
That's why I can't just continue them, because do you
know how long it would take me to stop? Thirty subscribe?
Speaker 1 (06:48):
Where do you live?
Speaker 3 (06:49):
I will cut if you pay me a fee, I
will come to your house and I will sit there
and delete all of them for you.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
It's nearly six grand on clothes for video characters in
the game.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
You don't play, Abby, Abby, listen to me. Listen to me.
Take your power back.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
Take your power back this weekend, Abby, and you sit
down and you make a day of it. Get your
wine or your beer, or you drink a choice, and
you sit there and you make an afternoon of it,
and you delete every single one of those subscriptions.
Speaker 6 (07:19):
I had tried this once, free, I had tried this once.
Speaker 7 (07:22):
She wasn't that that. I was like, oh, this all
looks really.
Speaker 6 (07:24):
Cool, and the downloaded it. I started playing Simms again.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
For a week, Abby, do you know how do you
know how well you could have dressed yourself for sex Greens.
Speaker 6 (07:32):
That's when I just heard.
Speaker 7 (07:33):
When I heard the sixth graind I'm like, answer the
designer wardrobe.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
Yeah, you could be in Prada. Should now?
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Yeah, Karen Walker piece every season, Abbie. Anyway, we said,
it's no judgment.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
We're not judging you. But no judgment.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
No, we're not judging. We are just shocked. Okay, us
time to process.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
I think you deserve better. You deserve that money to
be in your pocket. I do, I do.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
I'll go.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
When you tell your parents you dropping out of law
school to start a candle company, they're not We're not disappointed.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
We just need some time to process. That's okay, Abby,
We'll be fine. We will get over it. Jeez, six grand.
She doesn't even play the.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Game anymore, even if she just canceled half of them.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
Yeah, oh man, just a little bit by bit. We
have nothing more powerful? Can I say? You know when
you go into your phone, and anyone can do this,
You go into your settings.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
And then search subscriptions and just.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
See all the stuff for rid of them and just
start deleting them.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
It's a faceless company.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
They don't care. Yep, they don't even know you. And
here's a tip. If you do, try and cancel them.
A lot of the time they'll say, hey, do you
want to stay, and we'll give you a big discount,
which is also a trap because you weren't using them
in the first place.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Just prolonging the fact that you're just going to cancel it.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
We see, what's your subscription? You should have canceled. Someone said,
my gym membership as well. At this point, it's not
a fitness subscription. It's a monthly donation to a building
that I drive past while eating McDonald's. Getting stronger as
the gym owner's bank account so good.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
Someone else takes her and said, I've been paying for
my Duo Lingo subscription for eighteen months. I still can't
speak a word of Spanish.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
I don't know anybody who has got better at Duo
Lingo with the programsion.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
My my fiance Safio. Her brother got a job in
Japan and he learned Japanese from Duo Lingo in like
six months, pro or basic.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
I think he had the pro.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
I wonder where the words are that they don't teach
you on the basic They're like, if.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
You want to, they don't teach you, like if you
want to connecting words, or.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
They're like, if you want to ask where the toilet is,
that will be eleven ninety nine a month.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
Yeah. Yeah, we're not teaching you that.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
We're only teaching you racist stuff and swear words were
definitely in the pro version.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
Eh, yeah, that's in the profession. Thanks. Guys. Can see your.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
