Speaker 1 (00:01):
Ms Brill and Clint Podcast. It's our radio show, but
wrapped up in a neat little package just for you.
It's Ms bri and Clint Podcast. Caitlin's hair filling in.
I saw the New Zealand Herald has begun the noble
quest to find the best biscuit in New Zealand. I
this is a job that I took very seriously. During lockdown.

(00:22):
I ran quite a stringent process to find the best
biscuit in New Zealand. It was called the Bikie Off.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Yes, that's right.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
So far the Herald's voting aligns with my research, which
wouldn't necessarily be the case. My research is five years
old right when I did it.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Some of those biscuits probably aren't even yeah biscuits coming out.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
The biscuit that is currently in first place on the
Herald search for the best biscuit is the biscuit that
won my search for the best biscuit. Do you know
what that biscuit is? Hazard? A guess like a Tim Tan,
not a Tim Tam. Tim Tan was finalist in my one,
wasn't Tim Tam?

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Was it?

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Squiggle?

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Ah, hokey pokey squiggle. So at the moment that is
in first place, well first equal actually on the Herald,
first equal with the mint slice, which okay, So the
quest to find the greatest biscuit is the tailor as
old as time. The Project did a search for the
best biscuit in twenty eighteen and they chose mint slice

(01:22):
as the best biscuit, which at the time I wasn't
mature enough to accept. I was like, what a crock
of biscuit crap? But as I have mellowed with age,
I can now appreciate that a mint slice, particularly a
mint slice from the fridge, it's a top tier biscuit.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Would you agree, Well, yes, you asked us to choose
our favorite, so.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
I want to know from everybody best biscuit, worst biscuit.
Those are the two that you get to vote on
this afternoon. One biscuit you could eat for the rest
of your life. One biscuit you'd be happy if it
was discontinued. And I feel like you're championing at the
bit to tell me yours.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
Well, I thought mine was row, but my best biscuit
is a mint slice slice.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
Yeah, and I thought that was so you know what?
You know why, because you're thirty six tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
Is it like heaving and after dinner?

Speaker 1 (02:09):
Mint? Yes?

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Is there? How old? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:13):
Whereas no kid wants a mint slice? What boring biscuit?

Speaker 4 (02:16):
No? That was I'm sorry, I'm jumping in slice my favorite.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Okay, okay.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Some people think chocolate minty chocolate is like eating chocolate
with toothpaste, but.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
It's my favorite.

Speaker 4 (02:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
I feel like it takes a level of maturity to
appreciate that, right, Okay, so you okay, okay, so number
one for you? Mint slice? Yeah, worst biscuit?

Speaker 5 (02:41):
Short bread, my girl, my girl dry short bread made
short bread though, No, do you know what this is?

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Terrible? My grandmother read some peace Nanny.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
She used to make short bread all the time, and
I would just eat it just to make her feel better.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
But I hated It's what killed it? Wasn't it?

Speaker 4 (03:00):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (03:02):
Else? Not quite? But I could have been But yeah, no,
I just sure bread. No, it's useless. There's nothing like
there's opointing.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
Okay, you've done it, so I feel safe to go next.
Mine best is I have to go with my research
and I endorsed it at the time. I'm going to
go with hockey Pokey Squaggle beast biscuit in New Zealand
and worst short bread or choc thin because there's no
joy in a chocolin out, not enough chocolate, not enough biscuit.

(03:30):
Do you know the only good thing about a chocolate
is remember the Jaffa ones?

Speaker 4 (03:33):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (03:34):
Were they anymore?

Speaker 1 (03:35):
Maybe they do?

Speaker 4 (03:36):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (03:36):
I think they do.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
Not enough to redeem chocolate category.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Maybe you just eat the whole pack. That's the beauty
of it. One bite.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
Claudia biscuit worst biscuit?

Speaker 6 (03:44):
Do you know the chocolate button up? Snap? It's one
of those, aren't it.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
Claudia chooses an alternatives.

Speaker 6 (03:54):
But also named it as New Zealand's top biscuit. I'll
have you know it's a call butter chocolate button.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
No, no, no, no, don't bring the spin off into this.
I know their methodology. I've studied them closely. Their list
always contain rage bait. They will always put a garbage
biscuit or a biscuit that no one's heard of, or
a biscuit that everyone hates in the top three, and
it's so that everyone shares it and they go, can
you please.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Voted the basket.

Speaker 6 (04:23):
I'm going to bring someone tomorrow and I'm going to
make you.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
Literally, it's like eating a digestive pisuit.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Like, okay, one more time. Your best biscuit, it's chocolate
butternuts nat okay, And the worst biscuit that.

Speaker 6 (04:36):
Weird lemon treat thing with the cream in the middle.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
What is that lemon? Best biscuit, worst biscuit?

Speaker 4 (04:46):
Okay, don't get mad at me.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Best biscuit, Way to yours, vegan.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
No, no, no, no no, they're not good, girl. I haven't
done that. Best biscuit. I can agreement, slice fantastic, haven't
had one in years, but I want it. The worst biscuit.
I stand by this. It's disgusting. Squiggles, Oh, I hate it.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
It's just bad.

Speaker 4 (05:12):
It's not good.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
You think you know a person, take a lap.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
There's the glass between you two, Lucky, we're all right.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Interesting that you chose that as the worst.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
I mean, that is the worst. When sultana pesties literally
exist exactly.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
Actually, yeah, maybe I should change my shoulbread to sultana.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
That sounds bad to.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Nine six nine sex best biscuit, Worst biscuit, un scientific.
You can vote on the Herald one. Yeah, you know
we're talking about a Swiss cream were you Cardia the
lemon cracker one.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
I think it's called a lemon treats.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
It's a little bit salty. Ah, it's weird. Instagram take
this very seriously. Someone said best month slice, worst Monte Carlo.
Choosing Monte Carlo, Clint. This actually wasn't meant to fire
people up. Was meant to just be a throwaway, one

(06:13):
break conversation. But I shouldn't known. I should have known
how impassioned people get about their biscuits, particularly here in
New Zealand.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Yes, I'm already rage baited.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Cordia is about to throw HERDA.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
Is not talking to me because I criticized her biscuit.
And then when the song started playing, I realized what
biscuit she was talking about. I don't quite like it.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Is that an apology?

Speaker 1 (06:37):
Clt Cordia's biscuit was the Arnot's chocolate butternut. Snap.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
What makes it butternut?

Speaker 6 (06:43):
It's like slightly caramelined.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
Yeah, And then I realized I actually really liked this biscuit.
It's a really good biscuits, got good chew to it.

Speaker 6 (06:50):
Caitlin, Can you please tell Clint that I will speak
to him again tomorrow?

Speaker 1 (06:54):
Chocolate cons it's got the ripple chocolate.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
Can we hear the words?

Speaker 1 (06:57):
I'm sorry, I'm so sorry that your biscuit's name isn't
instantly recognizable.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
I think you should bring her a packet of her biscuits.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
That's a really good it tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
Do you know what I forgot about? Oh my god,
cameo creamed.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
Cameo cream that's Grandma biscuit. But I love it. Yes, yes, yes,
Grandma biscuit is not a criticism. It just means Grandma
would have some, not your grandma. She is on the
short bredge.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
She is not with us.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
But also I think like Grandma biscuit makes it sounds
like it's like easy to chew, like soft.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
No no, no, no, no no no. Grandma's just always
had biscuits.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
It okay.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
So a lot of people texting in about Showsburries and
they were saying, like, Shrewsbury's would have been their top tier.
And then they had a Shrewsbury recently, and it's not
what are you saying, Showsbury?

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Shrewsbury?

Speaker 6 (07:49):
Wait what shoes Shoesbury Shrewsbury, Shrewsbury.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
What are you saying Shoesbury? Oh no, you say to
him Shoesbury. So you're saying it wrong.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
Clint Shrewsbury, Shrewsbury and True like a like a.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
Team the Shrew.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
Oh my god, it's Shrewsbury. It sounds so stupid. Like anyway,
my pointers, I remember them being very good. I don't
think they're very I don't think they're very good anymore.

Speaker 6 (08:18):
A full taste teste do we need to try every
biscuit in New Zealand?

Speaker 1 (08:23):
The person talking about Sharon said, guys, I hate the
did fly biscuits. That are the worst. I have no
idea what they're called, but they're filled with squashed raisins.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
Oh you're talking about Yeah, no, they suck. Why haven't we.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
Talked about Tim Tam yet? Because they're great?

Speaker 1 (08:37):
Tim Tam, I think you just accept as top five.
But is it a bit it's a bit basic, but
to be that, no, to have that as your number one.

Speaker 4 (08:46):
But I think a Tim Tam slam when you do
the cup of tea, you bite both inns and suck
your tea and then throw it in your mouth, that
is a top tier sensation.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
And life for men. Explaining it to us someone we've forgotten.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
About Crispys Griffins, Crispy coconuty one, basic lunch.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
Very good ginger nut, good team.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
Both good tea, biscuits and super wines. We have super
all three at the hospital and I have a little.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
This text best biscuit, tim TM, worst biscuits, super wines.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
Oh what super wines.

Speaker 6 (09:23):
The creepy have eaten the super wine. I just use
them for like cheesecake bas.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
Back to Grandma's. They used to love to butter the
super wines.

Speaker 4 (09:32):
And and you know how they've got little circles on them,
like bite around them and make it smaller and smaller.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
Bite around biscuits, Girl Guide biscuits, char coated girl Guide biscuits.
You nibble around the little shield in the middle.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
Yes, I've got sis.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
What about mellow pass and you boost it on your forehead.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
We need to cut the Herald's lunch here and run
the bickie off again. We just before they we might
have to do it and just get our results out
before theirskland bigger half hour on biscuits. It was unintentional,
but here we are off an hour best biscuits in
New Zealand. The Herald's trying to figure it out. I
said at the start. It's a noble quest that many

(10:17):
have undertaken, and I will judge them on their results.
I will judge them heavily. Because you want to say
you're finding New Zealand's best biscuit, you better be right.
I'm serious, you better be right. This is an important
question because a lot of people text in and said
cookie Time is the best biscuit. But then Ben has
the critical thinking required for this type of conversation. He said, guys,

(10:38):
is Cookie Time a biscuit as such? I believe there
is gray area. What I would say about this Cookie
Time cookies, the Christmas ones in.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
The bucket, a little many ones, Yeah, they.

Speaker 1 (10:51):
Count as biscuits, okay, but a large cookie Time is
its own thing, right. It's like it's more akin to
a chocolate bar or something, isn't it? Because and those
tiny little cookie Time cookies taste nothing like the full
sized cookie?

Speaker 2 (11:05):
You're right?

Speaker 1 (11:05):
Why is that?

Speaker 3 (11:06):
Because they've got les chocolate in them.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
Maybe they got little chunks of apricott and the and
then like you.

Speaker 3 (11:11):
Can have twelve of them and instead of just one.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
Yeah, and yeah, I agree with you, even by the
fist of all. Yeah, So cookie Time as it stands
single serve cookie time. We're not considering that for best biscuit,
are we? Because cookie and you're not going to be like,
you're not going to come to my house and cup
of tea and a bickie You're like, yeah, sure, and
I bring out a cup of tea and an enormous
cookie time.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
They have gotten smaller of the years, they haven't they
those cookie times they have gotten.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
They've shrunk, have they? One hundred percent? I'm pretty sure
they have.

Speaker 3 (11:42):
I used to get them at boarding school and they
were like twice the size of my head. No, not
their bag, but they were pretty they were pretty big.
I reckon, I've shrunk really over time. I swear that's
the whole thing.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
Are you sure you're not confusing them with the little
ones where they used to.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
Be bigger, because there's they that storage just outside of
Attahi and you get the little off bits.

Speaker 1 (12:04):
To the chunks.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
Yeah right, and they used to be really big.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
Well, we'll take your word for it, but we're not
considering them, are we? No? No, no, no, it's good to
clear that up.
