Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the ZM Podcast Network.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
This is Fletch Vaughan and Hayley's Big Pod.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
Thanks to Animates. Making happy happen for pets. Happy Friday,
Fletch Vaughan and Hayley. We've got free fuel this morning
on the show at 8 o'clock. Thanks to BP Rewards.
Bloody gas and everything. Can't avoid it. So, yeah, free
fuel at 8 o'clock this morning. Vaughan, you've got the
top six.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
This is sad news. Apprentices are at a 15-year low, numbers-wise.
These are people who are getting into the trades, who
do their apprenticeships, that are on-the-job training with a bit
of paperwork on the side. 15-year low. What's everybody doing?
Are they just moving straight to Aussie, I reckon? 15-year
low of having apprentices. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (00:48):
Oh, my God, we always talk about this, that when
we were at school, they were like, don't go into
the trades, and it's a massive regret.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
Yeah. Huge regret. They're amazing skills. Yeah, earning a lot
more money.

Speaker 5 (00:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
You know, without apprentices, a whole lot of jobs aren't
getting done. So I've got the top six signs. Your
tradie doesn't have an apprentice. It's coming up soon in
the top six. But next on the show.

Speaker 4 (01:06):
Now, first we need to talk about a bit of
a Kmart dupe that everyone's going crazy for. And then
addressing the fact that your smartwatch might not actually be
that smart.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Boo. Stats could be well off.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
Okay, this is $ 29, but I tell you what, already
don't bother rushing to your phones or your laptops.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
It's sold out.

Speaker 4 (01:28):
New Kmart dupe.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
We love these. They do them bloody well. They do
them so good. The dupes. The dupes.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
This is a, oh, it's $ 39 in New Zealand. Smart ring.
and it is the dupe of the Aura rings that
Georgia wears one of these.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
She does.

Speaker 4 (01:45):
It's a smart health fitness tracker in a ring form.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
It has an app. But if you've got a smartwatch,
does it do anything that a smartwatch doesn't?

Speaker 4 (01:54):
I don't know what the Aura does other than make
your fingers look chunky.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
They're not for me. They're not sexy, are they?

Speaker 4 (02:01):
All my rings are like silver, sort of, you know,
stolen girlfriend. And then this thing's like.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
It's just a plain ring. It looks like a, you
know how.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
electrician men wear those like silicon rings so that they
don't get electrocuted?

Speaker 1 (02:15):
I did not know that. I just probably wouldn't wear
a ring if I was an electrician.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
No, but then all the horny housewives are hitting on
your husband.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Wait, so you're telling me that electricians and tradies put
silicon rings on their wedding finger? To signify I'm bloody
taken back on? No, they don't. Yes, my best friend's.

Speaker 4 (02:34):
Husband was a He's not dead. They're just not married.

Speaker 6 (02:38):
Right.

Speaker 4 (02:38):
But he's an electrician and, yeah, would wear like a
silicon ring.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
That is the most... Can we get any... Can we
get a 9-6-9-6? Have we got any Sparkies or Sparkies partners?
I mean, if you've got a mad... If you've got
a mad missus, you probably do. If your missus is
a lunatic, she might be wearing some bloody... She's a
bad bitch. Producer Carwin.

Speaker 5 (02:55):
Yeah, this was a massive thing because when I worked
in jewellery, people would come in and ask for them
and we... Where I worked didn't have silicon ones, but
they had other options. Because otherwise you can get degloved
real quick.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
Yeah, and they've got more flexibility. So like people who
work with their hands in trades.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Just don't wear it. My dad never wore a wedding ring.
My dad never took his off. A single cow never
hit on him on the dairy farm. No. They were
surrounded by some good looking blondes with massive nungas. They
just happened to be cows. Yeah, your beautiful eyelashes. You know,
it is a thing.

Speaker 4 (03:28):
I guess if that's important to you to always be
wearing your ring.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Right.

Speaker 4 (03:32):
A lot of people have a work ring that's safer.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
Okay. My husband wears a silicon ring instead of his
wedding band because he's a cop and doesn't want to
lose it or have it ripped off. I mean, fair enough.
You've got a cop out there. Yeah. Oh, far out.
All he's going to do is pull over and I'm like.
Hayley's just like, my husband's a mechanic and wears a
silicon ring. Really? It's a thing. I'm not making it up.
But these look like that. How have I never heard
of this? My daughter's husband wears a silicon ring. He's

(03:56):
a diesel mechanic. It's for safety. When I played pro rugby,
we used to wear silicon rings also.

Speaker 4 (04:00):
Pro rugby.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
It's like you wear a ring. Pro rugby is slipping
off the silicon ring when they're out with the boys.

Speaker 4 (04:05):
But you wear a gold ring or a silver ring
for the same reason, to show I'm signifying I'm married
and to feel united so when you can't wear it.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
But much like these Kmart orange dupe rings, they're not sexy.

Speaker 4 (04:16):
Dude, they're ugly as hell because they're just these like
plain bands that go around and they don't look silver.
So these ones are completely sold out in New Zealand.
Monitor your health with ease using this smart ring combining
a sleek light.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Charge it up. But did I just say its run
time is like an hour?

Speaker 3 (04:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
I saw something that said 59 minutes. That's not going
to last for a day, is it? No.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
No, sorry, charging time takes an hour.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
Right.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Nick's a sparky. He said I wear a normal ring.
Should wear a non-conductive one, though. It turns into an
element when it gets live in the ring I've got. Yes!
Burn your finger off. That just keeps you on your toes. Yeah,
that actually absolutely does. It's bloody health and safety PC madness.

Speaker 4 (04:55):
But anyway, whether you're buying the legit Aura or, you know,
lots of brands are doing rings, you kind of needn't bother.
So there was a US study that was done looking
at all smartwatches, Apple, Samsung, Garmin, everything.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
And found out that.

Speaker 4 (05:08):
By actually monitoring the wearer with a better device and
the smartwatch at the same time, completely overestimating your calorie burn.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
Really? By up to 25%. Wait, so you say if
your watch says you burn 1,000, you might only burn 75, 700, 750? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I remember looking at, because I'm interested in the VO2
max graph that I have for like your cardio fitness.
And I remember looking up some YouTube videos and they'd actually,
put people on those breathing... And they were good, eh?

(05:40):
And they were very... I think the Samsung, the Apple
and Garmin, they were all very close to the actual
VO2 Max.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
The worst performing out of the lot was Fitbit. I
think they just might have been left behind a little bit.
I was such a Fitbit girl when they first came out. Steps,
it was just steps, steps, steps.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
Steps, yeah. And then they got the heartbeat one.

Speaker 4 (05:57):
But yeah, they had adults cycling for 60 minutes on
a recline, stationary bike wearing every watch. compared against a
gold standard metabolic analyzer that was like hooked up to them.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
Right.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
Hugely over-restorating, which sometimes I look at my calories at
the end of the day and I go, that can't
be right.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
More than that. Probably did more than that. But no,
you should have been doing more. Should have been doing more.

Speaker 6 (06:22):
Right.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
So if you've set your calories.

Speaker 4 (06:25):
Yeah, I guess if you've set in the goal based
on what it's telling you, maybe crank them up a
bit and.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Go for another walk, yeah. Play ZM's Fletch, Vaughan and Hayley.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Fletch, Vaughan and Hayley, silly little pose, silly little pose.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
It is so silly, silly, silly that the silly little pose.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
Well, silly little Paul is, are you doing a spring clean?
Are you going to get deep? Are you going to
move the couch? Yeah. Are you going to get in
those little gutter things? Get in those cupboards. Around the
bottom of the window where all the dead flies and
dust and stuff can turn to mold. Probably just get
the robot to do a couple more rounds.

Speaker 4 (07:12):
When I say yes, I actually paid someone last week
to come and do all the like deep dusting.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
You've got a dusty house. It's so dusty. Do you
know why?

Speaker 4 (07:21):
Post-renovation, I never did one of those post-renovation cleans and
you're supposed to get it really deep. And so the
dust just kind of Lives with me. And then I
buy so many things for it to cling to.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
Well, we gave you three options. Yes, time for a
deep clean and a declutter. Yes, but just the little one.
And no. Okay. And she's pretty evenly split. Oh, really? 31%
of you are doing a deep clean and a declutter. 34%
of you, just the little one. 35%, no. Can't be bothered.
Won't be doing it. Like a fish.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
Dan said, as a school teacher, that is my holiday plans.
Cut to the first day of term four. Well, the
clean washing pile is still there, but that obscure Irish
and Belgian police drama that was very interesting has actually
taken the place of the clean.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
I think that's how you know you've got ADHD, right,
is if you start cleaning. And then you move on
to something else and then you move on to something else.

Speaker 4 (08:13):
And then your house looks like piles.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
And then you're like watching a show. The oven's open
half clean.

Speaker 7 (08:19):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
But man, the steamers have been washed. You spray the
stuff on. You spray the stuff on the oven.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
Come back to that.

Speaker 4 (08:26):
And then you can't use your oven for two weeks
because it's got the stuff in.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
It and it's dried. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That stuff hangs
around too. Do your burn off.

Speaker 4 (08:35):
My roast chuck that I did, because the oven got cleaned,
the roast chuck had that tang.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
Had a little bit of tang, yeah. That's a bit
of muscle. Rachel said, yes, nesting time. I just started
maternity leave and due date is six weeks. Yeah, that's
a big thing. So you're going to be getting that
clean on. By the way, just be careful if you're pregnant,
inhaling all those cleaners, because your mum did quite a
bit of cleaning when she had you, didn't she? I know.
I was one of the lucky ones because you can't

(08:59):
tell at all. It's very.

Speaker 8 (09:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
It's only subtle.

Speaker 9 (09:04):
It's subtle.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
As far as you know. Things click into place. Yeah,
you're like, ah.

Speaker 6 (09:09):
Ah.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
La, la, la, la, la.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
Pitsy smoke day. Yeah. Sharon said, nah. She definitely loved
her wine. Oh, yes, she did. Sharon said, nah, I'm
not going to clean. I'm going to go to Raro
to drink and hang out with my love instead. Oh, love.
Get it, Shaz. Get it, Shaz. Shaz is shagging in Raro.
Shaz is shagging. Shaz. Yeah. Sheldon said, saw my sister
clean range hood grills. I was unaware of cleaning those. Oh, yeah,

(09:33):
you've got to get those things out. Take them out.
Give them a hot soak in some, is it vinegar? Yeah, vinegar,
baking soda, whatever. Ruby said, yes, but only because the
sun hit my windows yesterday and I noticed how filthy
they are.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
Sarah, I love to declutter often, but I married a
keep this bit of wood. I reckon I might use
it kind of guy. Julie said, do good intentions count?
Because I've had those for a few years about a date.

Speaker 4 (10:00):
Claim Yeah Energetically You're cleaning the house Amber said.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
I really should But I won't Sophie Only because we're
moving house That sucks about moving houses Because you've got
to Clean the house To move out of And then
the one you move into Also probably needs to be
cleaned Yeah Yes, no mercy will be given to any
dirty surface, says Steph. Kelsey, already done. I got the
urge last week and I just got stuck in.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
Good.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
So for today's silly little poll, we asked, are you
planning on doing a spring clean? 31% of you are
going deep in declutter, baby.

Speaker 9 (10:30):
So I.

Speaker 4 (10:33):
Am actually not wearing any today, but I wear about
nine rings and I.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
Congratulations on being so rich. Thank you. God, and travelling
with her at an airport, never a problem. I know,
that's why I'm not wearing it today. But then I've
got a necklace and bracelets, you know, whatever.

Speaker 4 (10:52):
That's not what you need to be worried about going
through security with me today. Anyway, so I wear all
these rings and they're all from Stolen Girlfriends. I just
love the brand, right? And one of them was this heart.
And I'll tell you, it has a swear word on it.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
Okay. Oh, Hayley. Hayley, please.

Speaker 4 (11:11):
Now, this was, no, it's not cheap, but it was
a ring I loved so much.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
And then just out of the blue, it was gone.
I'd lost it. And I know I'm a mess.

Speaker 4 (11:23):
But I looked everywhere. I looked in every pocket of
every bit of clothing everywhere.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
Like, where have I been? You know, I'm always looking.
I'm always putting them in my bags and stuff.

Speaker 10 (11:31):
Gone.

Speaker 4 (11:32):
So on opening night of my show, my lovely boyfriend...
had bought flowers and.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
What a sweetie. What a sweetie. What a real sweetie.

Speaker 4 (11:42):
And there was a little box and first of all,
I went, oh my gosh, that's too soon.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
This is crazy. Let's slow things down.

Speaker 4 (11:49):
But in it was the exact ring and he'd replaced it.
He'd gone in to Stolen Girlfriends and he'd bought it.
He'd asked them, you know, she'll have an account here,
what size was it? And he bought the new one
and I had it, right? And I've been wearing that
ever since.

Speaker 1 (12:01):
Well, that's personal details. I don't know if they should
have been handing that over.

Speaker 6 (12:04):
It's crazy.

Speaker 1 (12:04):
I don't know if it's a misstep from them. It
could have been any creep buying you a ring. It
could have been, yeah.

Speaker 4 (12:09):
Now that creep knows how wide my finger girth is,
you know?

Speaker 1 (12:12):
That's private information. You don't need the media. You don't
need the gossip mags finding out you've got a wide finger.
A heavyset finger. A heavyset finger. I'm like King Charles.

Speaker 6 (12:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:23):
And they don't know that about me. Sausage fingers. I
keep them tight. Hayley Sausage Fingers Sproul explains why she's
so heavyset in the digit. Yeah, yeah, in the digit.
That's the Woman's Day headline right there.

Speaker 9 (12:33):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
And then underneath what JJ and Manu are up to.
Which I always want to know. Tony Street. Tony Street's
doing something. Tony Street's on there. Yeah, there's a journey.
She's always on a journey. That's right. And an old
Shortland Street actress had a baby. Gorgeous, a perfect issue. Perfect. Perfect. So, right,
I'm wearing this ring. This is back in May. Yep.
It is September now.

Speaker 4 (12:55):
Cut to, I'm going to Australia today and I'm going
to be running late for the flight, okay?

Speaker 1 (13:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (13:03):
Booked a silly flight because we're going from work so
no time to check in baggage. I was like, I'll
take the small bag.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
Not the big one. And I open it up and
he's at my house.

Speaker 4 (13:13):
Like he's hanging out on the bed while I'm packing.
I open it up and I just go, and I
slam it shut. And I was like, oh my God,
there's the ring. There's the original ring. I've got the
replacement ring on my finger as we're hanging out. And
I just say, oh, like I get that silver glow.
And I'm like, I know exactly what that is.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
Now, I just remembered earlier in this conversation, you said
it wasn't cheap. Okay. No, no. But cheap enough for
him to buy a replacement. Cheap enough. It's not diamonds.
It's just silver. But it's an expensive brand and it's
New Zealand made. So, no, I'm sure he went, oh, tottle, tottle, tottle.
I'll go replace her ring. What the? We're here now.

Speaker 6 (13:49):
Right?

Speaker 4 (13:49):
So I see this ring and I go, what is it?
And I was like, spider. And I was like, do
I just immediately go? This is a fresh relationship. I
don't want to start on a bed of lies.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
Yep. You want your lies.

Speaker 4 (14:04):
To come in at about the two-year mark.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
It's like building a house, you know. Foundations, roof, lies.
And the lies protect you from the rain. Which is
the flimsiest of all.

Speaker 4 (14:16):
So I was like, in my head, I was just like,
just say, oh my God, I just found the ring
that I.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
Lost that you replaced.

Speaker 4 (14:20):
The worst just didn't come out. And so I went,
oh no, I just thought there was something in there.
Open this, pack the bag. I packed this shit all
on top of the original ring.

Speaker 10 (14:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
And now it's just like, I'm just going to, I've
got a secret.

Speaker 4 (14:34):
I've got my first big, fat, dirty secret that he
wasted his money on this replacement ring and I found it.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
And now I'm like, what do I do? I'm going
to sell it. Which one are you going to sell?
The old one. The original. I'm going to sell the original.
But does the original look as new? They're exactly as
worn as each other. Okay, good. Okay, so he's not
going to know. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Okay.
He's not going to know, but I'll profit. And he
will say, not a dime of it. And that is

(15:06):
girl math. I think it is girl math.

Speaker 5 (15:08):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (15:09):
Like a couple hundred bucks. Girl algebra, really? You've included
a little bit more than just a plus and minus. Well,
let's go out for drinks, guys, because it's on me.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
The ZM Podcast Network.

Speaker 1 (15:22):
ZM's Fletchpoint and Hayley. From the unmoderated comment section, this
is the top six. Well, apprenticeship numbers have hit a
15-year low. The number of people in apprenticeships and workplace
training is the lowest it's been in 15 years. Well,
how are we going to provide Australia with their next trading?

(15:42):
With the cream of the crop. Yeah, I don't know.
If we don't start... I don't know. They're going to
be upset, aren't they? They'll be really upset. They get
the absolute best out of us. Well, they absolutely do. And,
of course, they get their training up here. And then
they're just the lure of the Gold Coast. Yeah. Or
at the weekend, they can go to Movie World and
have a photo with Wonder Woman or Bugs Bunny. Yeah, man.

(16:04):
Why are they staying here? Pop over to Bali. For
27 bucks an hour. Yeah. Oh, why are we here? Well,
I've got the top six signs. Your tradie doesn't have
an apprentice because every tradie needs a good sidekick, needs
an apprentice. Number six on the list, they don't have
any left-handed screwdrivers in their toolbox. Oh, that's a classic.
Go to the hardware store and get me a left-handed screwdriver. Oh, yeah,
because it's just... It's just one. Yeah. There aren't any.

Speaker 3 (16:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (16:29):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Nice.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
Number five on the list of the top six signs
your tradie doesn't have an apprentice. Your builder's spirit level
doesn't have a fresh bubble. Oh, because it's, you don't
put bubbles in it. Yeah. We've got a bloody apprentice
in studio. Are you allowed to prank tradies anymore or
is this just workplace harassment? I was looking through some

(16:51):
classic apprentice gags. Yeah. Some of them horrendous. Oh, yeah, bad.
Some of them bad. Yeah, not great. Some of them bad.
Really bad. Just bad. Just bad. Quick 9696, if you
were an apprentice, what's the worst thing that happened to
you when you were an apprentice under the guise of,
you know, your trainer? Yeah, 9696. Number four on the
list of the top six signs your tradie doesn't have

(17:13):
an apprentice, your painters don't have any cans of tartan paint.

Speaker 4 (17:17):
Because you don't paint on the pattern.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
You have to do it yourself with various colours of paint.
Could you pop down to Rosina and ask them for
a can of tartan paint?

Speaker 6 (17:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (17:29):
All right, you pop off. We'll see you soon, eh?

Speaker 10 (17:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
It wouldn't because it's just one colour. Yeah, you're not
taking the work back.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (17:36):
It's just one colour. There you go, there you go,
there you go. Wow. Number three on the list of
the top six signs your tradie doesn't have an apprentice.
You can't find bloody anybody around here to get us
a bucket of steam. Could you pop out and get
us a bucket of steam? Where do you get that from? Well,
it might attend to have a bucket of steam. You
can't get a bucket of steam, can you?

Speaker 3 (17:52):
No.

Speaker 1 (17:53):
You nearly got me. Number two on the list of
the top six signs your tradie doesn't have an apprentice.
Your bloody paddle beat is using the angle grinder, and
he's out of blue sparks. Can you pop down and
get us a tin of blue sparks to use on
the grinder?

Speaker 4 (18:09):
Would that be from sort of JB Hi-Fi always?

Speaker 1 (18:13):
Yeah, they might have them. They might have them. Can't
do it. It's super cheap. It's natural. And number one
on the list of the top six signs that your
tradie does have an apprentice, you bloody go in to
get your car seen to, of course, your warrant of fitness,
and no one fills up your blinker fluid. Not any fluid.
Can you pop down and get us a tin of

(18:33):
blinker fluid?

Speaker 7 (18:34):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
I'll have a look. We'll need to fill that up
on the next car. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I can get
one of those. Yeah, that sounds bloody good to me.
Blinker fluid. A bit of blinker fluid.

Speaker 9 (18:41):
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
Right, right, right. They don't need fluid.

Speaker 4 (18:43):
Come back two hours later, couldn't bloody find any.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
No, knew what I was talking about. That is today's
top six.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
The ZM Podcast Network. Play ZM's Flesh, Vaughan and Hayley.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
Some of our famous and beloved musicians are killing us.

Speaker 10 (18:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:57):
Are killing us. Yeah. He's saying Lady Gaga is a murderer.
Taylor Swift.

Speaker 4 (19:02):
Murderer. Murderer.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
They're all murderers. You would break it down. Okay, well,
this is an insane study, and obviously there is no
direct correlation, but... The amount of suing if we were
in America. So they looked at, researchers looked at traffic
deaths in the United States from 2017 to 2022, 233 deaths,

(19:26):
a thousand deaths in total. So a quarter of a
million traffic deaths. Over five years. Over five years. They
found that those numbers. So how many, what was the number?
Just under a quarter of a million, 233,000. Have died
in traffic. In five years. From 2017 to 2022. In
five years. I just think maybe we need to just
get back on our feet. Yeah, in America. They found that...

(19:49):
deaths rose 15% on days when major albums were released,
like Taylor Swift's Midnight, Bad Bunny's album that dropped during
that time, and other albums. Traffic deaths went up 15%. Well,
people are distracted listening to their new music. They love
it so much they're running red lights and driving off
the road.

Speaker 4 (20:09):
Or when you listen to a new song from one
of your favourite artists and you're like, the slap.

Speaker 1 (20:14):
And you just go hard. And the spike hit younger drivers,
male drivers, and solo drivers hardest. It was stronger on clear,
dry days with sober drivers behind the wheel. Isn't that insane?
That is crazy. So your favourite album comes out, a
new Taylor Swift album, or your favourite album comes out.

(20:35):
Be careful. Be careful. Because everyone's listening. We've got new
Miley coming. Be careful. Be careful. We've got new.
I don't know who else is doing the music at
the moment. I don't know. There's always albums coming out.
There's always albums coming out.

Speaker 4 (20:48):
But you do, you do, because you're like listening, you know,
like you can have background music on the songs you
know and love because it's like you know and love them.
They're just in you. Whereas new stuff, you're really listening.
You'll be like, oh, that's interesting.

Speaker 1 (20:59):
And then you're like, oh, I love this. And if
there's an absolute banger, you could just be so distracted.

Speaker 9 (21:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (21:04):
Or you're like skipping, be like skip, what's next, what's next,
what's next. But be careful. So obviously they can't, like
they don't know that that's a fact. It could just
be a complete coincidence. But when there are major albums released.

Speaker 4 (21:16):
So are you reneging on saying that Taylor Swift is
an active murderer?

Speaker 1 (21:19):
Is a murderer. Right. He's retreating a little bit.

Speaker 3 (21:24):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (21:24):
More people, I've just been doing some quick Googling. Because
that stat blew my mind about how many people die
in car accidents. More people have died in car accidents
since World War II than died in the entirety of
World War II.

Speaker 3 (21:37):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
But it has been a lot of time since. It
has been 70 years. Our cars are so fast now.
They're so fast. Yeah, we just get really fast cars. Okay, well,
careful on the roads. Careful on the roads. Careful out
there changing anything and touching anything.

Speaker 4 (21:51):
Do we need to calm down our show so people
don't get distracted?

Speaker 1 (21:55):
You know, we could do sort of general. We had
a caller on the phone once when they were hit
by a truck. Whoever told you this, it was the wildest. Yes,
and then you called them back. No, we tried calling
them back and it went straight to Answerphone and then
they called us back. And they said they were completely fine.
A truck changed lanes and didn't see them. What did

(22:17):
it sound like? Like a car accident, it must sound like.
It sounded like crunchy. Loud, crunchy. And then the phone
dropped and then it just went beep, beep, beep. What
were you on the phone about?

Speaker 4 (22:27):
When did you fart yourself in public or something silly?

Speaker 1 (22:31):
Something silly like that. Hey, take care out there, guys.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
The ZM Podcast Network.

Speaker 1 (22:37):
Well, Dyson, who famously.

Speaker 4 (22:40):
know how to make a vacuum cleaner, and, man, they
know how to make a.

Speaker 1 (22:45):
Hair wrap heat thing. Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (22:48):
I still can't figure out how to use them. I mean,
we got Dyson's eight years ago from Dyson when we
girl-mastered Dyson hair wrap.

Speaker 1 (22:56):
I don't know how to use it. Well, you put
it in your hair. You put it in your hair.
And it's complicated.

Speaker 3 (23:04):
Okay. Okay.

Speaker 4 (23:05):
So they've announced their latest product, Using AI. Now, I
know that we, as a show, we value a floss.

Speaker 1 (23:14):
Yeah, we love a floss. You got really into flossing
hard a couple of years ago. I love when they bleed. Fletch,
you do it at work. Shouldn't be bleeding.

Speaker 4 (23:22):
Just sorry, come back to that. Shouldn't be bleeding as much.

Speaker 1 (23:25):
No, they only bleed when you haven't flossed for a while.
They only bleed when you, you know, it's like wiping
your bum. You keep doing it until there's a little
bit of blood. Yeah, no, you shouldn't be doing that either.

Speaker 9 (23:34):
Really?

Speaker 1 (23:34):
Have you put in your colonoscopy? I thought the red
said stop. The red was stop. Stop.

Speaker 9 (23:39):
No, no, no, no.

Speaker 1 (23:40):
You've done enough.

Speaker 4 (23:41):
So they've released their latest product and it's only $ 849
for a toothbrush.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
So it is. See, I don't even like electric toothbrushes.
They're yuck. I'm manual. I know I'm manual. Yeah, I
went back to manual because my dentist told me off
because he calls them chainsaws. Yeah, because I recede. The gums.
They're not good for the gums.

Speaker 6 (24:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (24:00):
Well, you can go super soft and stuff.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
I think so. You can't get soft heads, though. It's
really hard to get the soft heads. No, I'm manual.
But this is called the Dyson Camera Jet.

Speaker 4 (24:09):
It's the only toothbrush with a camera powered by gap
optical targeting.

Speaker 6 (24:14):
So.

Speaker 1 (24:15):
I'm sorry. It's going to be covered in bloody toothpaste
the whole time. Oh, I know.

Speaker 4 (24:18):
So it's a little one millimeter intraoral camera.

Speaker 1 (24:22):
That's going up your jacksie, eh? For a look. 100%.
Just a look. I'm putting it in all holes. Yeah,
when I'm finished with the head and it needs replacing,
I'm just like. Yeah, check out my cervix.

Speaker 9 (24:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
Can't see it. Why not? God, no wonder he's bleeding.
Got to remember if anyone's going to, just whack a
safety string on that. Or maybe a condom, you know. No,
because it'll blur the view. Yeah, I know. You get
nice thin ones. Like driving with lube on your windscreen. Yeah,
got it. Don't you hate it when you're driving with
lube on your windscreen?

Speaker 4 (24:50):
So a little camera analyzes 28 images a second, processed
by AI.

Speaker 9 (24:56):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (24:56):
Within 100 milliseconds of spotting a gap, it fires a
bonnacle burst of mouth rinse sound to floss while you brush.

Speaker 1 (25:05):
So you're going like this, and it says a little thing,
and it goes. So it's like. Squirts in your mouth.
I think I like that. So it's like a water
flosser or an air flosser. Yes, it's a tooter. It's
a tooter. It's an automatic tooter for your toothers.

Speaker 4 (25:17):
And then while you're doing this, so you've got it
in your mouth, and it's brushing your teeth.

Speaker 1 (25:22):
It's sensing a gap.

Speaker 4 (25:23):
It's blasting water through it like a water flosser. You've
got your phone open watching the whole thing.

Speaker 9 (25:28):
Oh, no. I can't.

Speaker 4 (25:29):
I kind of think I'd find that satisfying for a
little bit. You know, people do those, have you seen the.

Speaker 1 (25:34):
Scalp health cameras?

Speaker 3 (25:35):
No.

Speaker 4 (25:36):
And they get one of those really magnifying cameras on
your scalp and you see all the clogged.

Speaker 1 (25:42):
Pores of your hair and stuff. Oh, no. Because have
you ever been in a hotel and you've accidentally looked
at yourself in that up-close magnifying mirror? Dude, and you're like, cool.
You're just like, ugh.

Speaker 4 (25:52):
Like a Nick Offerman moustache. Like, what the hell is
that doing there?

Speaker 9 (25:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (25:57):
So, yeah, and it's like it oscillates and it squirts
and it does everything.

Speaker 1 (26:01):
Use it in the shower. But it is.

Speaker 9 (26:03):
$ 800.

Speaker 1 (26:03):
Yeah, $ 845 in New Zealand. It's a gimmick. This is
a bit gimmicky. It's a bit of a mess. It's
way too expensive for you. Someone said novelty gadget. Do
you know what I mean?

Speaker 4 (26:13):
Like it's novel, but every morning you're not going.

Speaker 1 (26:16):
Did you see in the group chat, this is the
wider gaggle group chat, Skid bought a water flosser off Teemu. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
I got one from Chemiste Warehouse. Yeah, that's what I
was just thinking. You got your Chemiste. Yeah, I got Chemiste.
Do you still use it? Yeah, all the time.

Speaker 4 (26:33):
Not as much as I would just like use one
of those pick sticks. But when I'm like, oh, yeah,
I want a good clean. But you have to put in,
for me.

Speaker 1 (26:40):
Not cold water.

Speaker 4 (26:42):
Oh, yeah, because it's sensitive. Oh, my God, it like stings.
The first time you do it with cold, you're.

Speaker 10 (26:46):
Like, oh.

Speaker 4 (26:46):
Could you do it with mouthwash or is that not recommended?
I think just water does it. You're just wasting, because
it uses quite a bit of water. You're best to
do it in the shower, aren't you? Yeah, you do
it in the shower.

Speaker 1 (26:58):
But this, yeah, if you want it, you can go
to dyson.co.nz. Or just do what the rest of us
do and just floss like the day before, or the
day of the dentist. I'm going to the hygienist next
week and we're going to hard floss. They never know.
They don't know. They don't know this thing.

Speaker 2 (27:10):
The ZM Podcast Network. Play ZM's Flesh, Fawn and Hayley. I, uh.

Speaker 1 (27:17):
Thank you.

Speaker 4 (27:19):
I think you are very beautiful. Yeah, both of you
are beautiful things.

Speaker 1 (27:22):
You're beautiful. Now, I've forgotten the name of the designer.
This is terrible. Oh, a Japanese man. The Japanese jacket designer.

Speaker 4 (27:32):
I went to an op shop and I found an
80s or 70s jacket that is by this Japanese designer
who used to design clothes for David Bowie.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
It's suede, tassels, studs, everything. Amazing, right?

Speaker 4 (27:44):
And I wore it the next day to work. You
guys tried it on. It's sisterhood of the travelling vintage jacket.
But you shall never actually be able to wear it.
So what we would have all noticed in that moment
is that she had a mask. She had a vintage mask.
Hasn't been worn since the 80s. So I was like,
I'm going to do things right. I'm going to take
it to the dry cleaners. And the dry cleaner looked

(28:04):
at it and was like, is this vintage? You know,
like there's a bit of risk. We have to go
and send it off for an assessment. And I said,
that's fine.

Speaker 1 (28:11):
Wait, who do they send it to? Some fabric expert,
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (28:15):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (28:16):
An assessment.

Speaker 4 (28:17):
And just yesterday I received a message from them saying
the jacket's been assessed because of the nature and the
age of the suede and the mix of things. It
runs the risk of drying, cracking, colour bleeding, tearing, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
And we take no responsibility for that. You have to
sign a waiver and accept and say now, Do it

(28:40):
or don't do it.

Speaker 1 (28:41):
Or why don't you just get your Kmart steamer on it?
I'll get a Kmart steamer. Get the Kmart steamer.

Speaker 4 (28:46):
Because I think the stink is so ingrained in it.

Speaker 5 (28:50):
Right.

Speaker 1 (28:50):
You know what I mean? We're talking like 50 years
of stink. Just some stink. A lot of stink in that.
So I've signed it off. So basically, I don't know.
I won't know until next week. So you're rolling the dice.
On the vintage find of my life. The possibility of
it having some sort of damage done to it.

Speaker 9 (29:08):
Hmm.

Speaker 1 (29:10):
You weren't like, eventually the stink will wear out. No, no,
it won't wear out. It'll get stronger. You think the
stink's going to get stronger? Why don't you just put
it on the washing line with your dress? No, I'd
rather die. No, I got that off, by the way.
I texted, just texted, have you got your skirt off
the line? I have. Yeah, she's fine. She's fine. Yeah, no,
it needs it.

Speaker 4 (29:27):
It needs it so that it doesn't become some relic
in my wardrobe that becomes something I actually wear. But anyway,
now I'm like, well, they're going to ruin it. And
then they've said.

Speaker 1 (29:35):
Also, it stinks. You're going to wear it out on
a night on K Road and it's going to smell
like seas. and bloody. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (29:42):
No, but it's a different stink, ciggies and booze in
K Road.

Speaker 1 (29:45):
Yeah, right.

Speaker 4 (29:46):
It's got that vintage stink. Anyway, it reminded me of
a time that I took the risk. This is like
before I ever bought anything. like spent money on clothes.
And I worked in a clothing store and I bought
my first expensive dress. It was soft fabric, really light.
And my bestie Jess was like, oh my God, can
I borrow that for a party?

Speaker 1 (30:03):
I was like, absolutely.

Speaker 4 (30:04):
Came back with like the biggest durry hole in it.
And because of the nature of the fabric, the flame
had gone like, like it had kind.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
Of like shrunk. Oh, I shrunk it.

Speaker 5 (30:13):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (30:13):
A bit of synthetics there.

Speaker 4 (30:14):
Yeah, but now I want to know. So they haven't
ruined my jacket, but knock on wood.

Speaker 1 (30:18):
We'll find out. Stay tuned, Elisa, next week. Is Hayley's
vintage jacket ruined? Destroyed.

Speaker 9 (30:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (30:24):
As they were warned it could be. I wouldn't know
who ruined your belongings. And maybe it was something really precious.

Speaker 1 (30:30):
Because you lend something to a friend.

Speaker 4 (30:32):
You lent it or you gave it to a service
or something. You know, you sent it to be washed or,
you know, someone was supposed to be carrying something for
you and it just got absolutely destroyed.

Speaker 1 (30:42):
It's when you lend friends things. Yeah, it's always that.
Like you lend them tools or clothing. Oh, power tools.

Speaker 9 (30:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (30:49):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Lend them the dog to go for
a walk.

Speaker 3 (30:52):
The dog dies.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
And then if they break it or wreck it or
lose it, do they pay full price? Because it wasn't new. No. Depreciation.
And also, you kind of can't ask.

Speaker 4 (31:02):
You can't go, well, you've got to pay for that,
to a friend.

Speaker 1 (31:06):
You're sort of just like, it happens. I think I
would replace it. You would if you were the breaker,
for sure.

Speaker 3 (31:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (31:12):
But if, yeah, if someone broke something of yours at
your house, you wouldn't be like, replace it.

Speaker 1 (31:18):
No.

Speaker 4 (31:18):
Remember I broke your drain in your kitchen floor.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
Yeah. But again, I knew that I was getting a
kitchen reno, so it didn't matter. How did you break
the drain in the kitchen floor? I sort of stumbled
and it sort of went all through the... Yeah, it
went through the floor. There was a big hole in
the kitchen floor. Yeah, we fixed it a little bit.
Didn't you glue it or something?

Speaker 3 (31:36):
Anyway.

Speaker 1 (31:36):
Yeah, I glued it. Anyway, who ruined your belongings? Shannon,
Emma's message. Can we check the VH Instagram DM? She
just sent us a photo of something I lent to
my mate. Oh, yeah. Okay, let's go to Rachel. Rachel,
what did a friend ruin of yours?

Speaker 10 (31:52):
Oh, morning, guys. Well, back in the days when I
was a 91ZM cheerleader.

Speaker 1 (32:00):
Rachel, we'd love to bring back the 91ZM cheerleaders, but
apparently it's a bit rough.

Speaker 3 (32:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (32:05):
God, they didn't tell me until I was halfway through
auditioning them. This was just last week as well, wasn't it, Vaughan? Yeah,
it was. On your couch in the office. I know Rachel.

Speaker 4 (32:15):
As someone who has not come from a radio background.
I know nothing about these ZM cheerleaders.

Speaker 1 (32:20):
What is this?

Speaker 3 (32:22):
It was the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders of the.

Speaker 10 (32:25):
90s, wasn't it?

Speaker 6 (32:25):
It was, yeah.

Speaker 1 (32:26):
Did they have you prancing around little crop tops and
little short skirts and stuff?

Speaker 3 (32:30):
You'd go to the rugby games, wouldn't you?

Speaker 1 (32:44):
Absolutely.

Speaker 4 (32:45):
So we were like in this tiny little uni car
with a G-string and our arse was hanging out.

Speaker 1 (32:50):
So it sounds problematic.

Speaker 9 (32:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (32:52):
It sounds problematic. Sounds like we as a company want
to distance ourselves from that. Yeah.

Speaker 9 (32:55):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (32:56):
Yeah. Okay, so what happened back in those days? Was
some of the management that were there then, are they
still here? We'll have to get some... Well, you know, Shusti.

Speaker 4 (33:07):
Well.

Speaker 1 (33:07):
We won't name names.

Speaker 3 (33:09):
Sorry, sorry, sorry.

Speaker 1 (33:10):
Well, he was there.

Speaker 7 (33:11):
Oh, right.

Speaker 1 (33:12):
Yeah, right.

Speaker 10 (33:13):
Anyway, Yeah, but no, I went away with one of
my teammates to Fiji and I had my gorgeous bikini
that I'd saved up so much for.

Speaker 3 (33:21):
And I've got little bitty titty witties.

Speaker 1 (33:24):
You've got little titties.

Speaker 3 (33:25):
Well, I don't now.

Speaker 2 (33:27):
I've had girls done, but I did back then.

Speaker 7 (33:30):
And my girlfriend had massive good jungles.

Speaker 3 (33:34):
She was like, can I borrow it?

Speaker 6 (33:35):
And I was like, well, you'll stretch it.

Speaker 1 (33:37):
She was like, oh, fine.

Speaker 6 (33:39):
So she wears it.

Speaker 3 (33:40):
She stretches the hell out of it.

Speaker 1 (33:42):
Oh, no. I put it on. I've got gaping. Yeah,
hollow sex. Well, this is like when girls borrow their
boyfriend's hoodie. You get the boob marks. Yeah, they do
get two lumps in the middle.

Speaker 10 (33:51):
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, and so basically I had to give
it to her because I couldn't wear it ever again.

Speaker 4 (33:57):
God, it would have just been a nipple cover on
her if she's got honkers and you've got itty-bitties.

Speaker 1 (34:01):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 6 (34:02):
Oh, shit. She looked gorgeous.

Speaker 1 (34:04):
Rachel, do you want to come and get the original
girls back together for the... I see a promo here. Yeah,
me too. The 91FM cheerleaders. We'll get the original girls back. Yep.
You need to bring Wendy Petrie back in there. I
was going to say, Wendy Petrie was one of them.
We've talked to her about it. We've talked to her
about it. Yeah, she was. She was back in the...
All news to me.

Speaker 3 (34:23):
Yeah, it was.

Speaker 1 (34:24):
It was a whole big thing back in the day.
It was crazy stuff. Rachel, thanks for that. They were
on our TV commercial too. Yeah, trip down memory. Yeah,
I'm pretty sure you could YouTube some old ads and stuff. Yeah,
because they used to put marching girls on ads and
primers and stuff. Rachel, thank you. Great trip down memory
lane there. Amelia, good morning. Who ruined your stuff? Hello.

(34:45):
It wasn't my stuff that got ruined.

Speaker 2 (34:50):
It was your stuff.

Speaker 1 (34:52):
Ollie, you ruined our stuff.

Speaker 10 (34:55):
No, my dad did.

Speaker 1 (34:56):
Oh, what did your dad do? My dad is the
one who broke Herman the German. Oh, Amelia.

Speaker 4 (35:04):
Amelia, the unforgivable act of breaking our beloved ceramic dog,
Herman the German's foot.

Speaker 1 (35:10):
And now his foot is encased in a Perspex box
in memoriam. Are you embarrassed to be associated with him?

Speaker 8 (35:19):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (35:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (35:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (35:22):
Well, at least your dad was helping us, wasn't he?
Get Herman up the country. I mean, did you get
to meet Herman, Amelia, while I was on the road?

Speaker 3 (35:29):
Yeah, I got to meet Herman.

Speaker 1 (35:31):
That's pretty cool. He's still cool. He's doing well. He's
still cool. He's just an amputee.

Speaker 4 (35:35):
He's an amputee, but he's got a cool scarf. He's
happy and he's got visitors.

Speaker 1 (35:38):
He does. Amelia, thank you. Love to your father, Amelia. Matt,
who ruined your stuff?

Speaker 8 (35:45):
So, look, I made a bad choice before we got married.
We bought two brand-new big marquees for our wedding, and
I lent them to a friend who was having a
family party.

Speaker 6 (35:53):
I say family in brackets, the weekend before, and he
shredded them.

Speaker 1 (35:57):
What?

Speaker 6 (35:57):
Completely shredded.

Speaker 1 (35:59):
How do you shred a marquee?

Speaker 8 (36:02):
Apparently having a fire pit in the middle of them
and then having drunk people with sparklers was not the
way to do it.

Speaker 1 (36:09):
Wait, so what did you end up doing for your wedding?

Speaker 6 (36:13):
We had to hire a couple.

Speaker 8 (36:14):
So I had a very unhappy fiance who was second-guessing
my life decisions already before she.

Speaker 1 (36:21):
Was the guy you lent the marquee to in the
wedding party?

Speaker 6 (36:26):
No, but he was a complete dick. So I don't
know why I did it.

Speaker 1 (36:29):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, sorry, mate. So how was it remedied?
He hired them.

Speaker 6 (36:36):
He literally pretty much, I had to hire some. He
just said sorry.

Speaker 1 (36:41):
That was it. Wait, did he pay for them? No, no. Oh,
what a prank. No, no, no, no, no. We're not
friends with him still, are we?

Speaker 6 (36:47):
We're not friends with him.

Speaker 1 (36:48):
No, we're not friends with him. And what did we learn?

Speaker 4 (36:50):
We don't do that a week out from the wedding.
How did the bride take it?

Speaker 8 (36:54):
The bride didn't take it very well, but what we
did learn is make better life choices.

Speaker 1 (36:58):
Yeah, that's right. Yes, that's right. Because sometimes those higher
tents are a bit like, Stainy, aren't they? Yeah, they're
a bit yellowed. Do they not? I feel like they
need to power wash those a bit more. Yeah, yeah,
we need to get a bit of exit mold. Hit
them with a bit of bleach. Yeah. Get a bit
of liquid chlorine on there. Get the exit mold, some
friendly bleach. Thank you, Matt. Some messages. I took my
wool cashmere coat to a tailor, and she basically made

(37:20):
the sleeves three-quarter length. It's always so embarrassing, not to
mention she charged me $ 380, so my good deal coat
that I got for $ 120 turned into a $ 500 coat.
Three quarter sleeves mishap. Yeah, little shame sleeves.

Speaker 3 (37:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (37:33):
You could add a cuff maybe. Go to Spotlight, get
some fabric, add a long cuff. No, because you're always
going to look at the cuff and think, no. Someone
asked me, I was on the other end of the
situation you caught. I was the one who ruined my
friend's expensive top because we were the same size, but
I had massive boobies. Oh, right. Stretch the top out
in that area.

Speaker 4 (37:51):
You can't help it. They really do leave a couple
of big dents.

Speaker 10 (37:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (37:55):
I bought my wedding dress from a sample sale, so
I got it for a really good price. Took it
to a dry cleaner because it had been tried on
and worn by different people, and it came back ripped
with holes in it three weeks before the wedding.

Speaker 6 (38:06):
Oh, God.

Speaker 1 (38:07):
That's a good way to save money, though, isn't it?
Get a dress at a sample sale, and then I
guess if you need to have a few jabs to
fit it. Jab it up. You're saving money, aren't you? Dude,
they're thousands of dollars. My 10-pound, 3-ounce baby done ruined
my beloved vagina. Done ruined. Can you read that start message?

(38:27):
Have you seen that one? I haven't, Dwayne. I'll do it.

Speaker 4 (38:29):
My bestie borrowed a ball dress and then shagged my
brother-in-law on a barbecue table in it and pulled all
the threads.

Speaker 1 (38:35):
I just let her keep her. Okay, there's a lot
to unpack there.

Speaker 2 (38:40):
What are we in for for summer?

Speaker 1 (38:45):
That is what everyone wants to know.

Speaker 4 (38:47):
I can't even remember if last summer was good or not.

Speaker 1 (38:50):
It seems so low. Nah, it was average. It was average.

Speaker 9 (38:52):
Wet.

Speaker 1 (38:53):
Winter's been cold, crispy, a mixed bag.

Speaker 4 (38:56):
We always want to know and we have to get
it right from the horse's mouth.

Speaker 1 (38:59):
And that horse's name is Philip Duncan. Good morning, Phil.

Speaker 3 (39:05):
Giddy up.

Speaker 1 (39:06):
Giddy up, baby. Giddy up, cowboy. So, obviously, like, we're seeing,
you know, at home at night, sun going down later. Yeah, man.
Daylight savings is... So bright in the morning. Hooray, hooray.
Is daylight savings three or four weekends away? Yeah, end
of September, yep. Mood's already lifting.

Speaker 4 (39:20):
We can feel it coming. Are we in for a
good one? Oh, by the way, from weatherwatch. He's not
just some random, if you don't know From weatherwatch.co.nz.

Speaker 1 (39:29):
Are we in for a good summer?

Speaker 3 (39:30):
Depends on where you live. Because the El Nino that
we've got usually encourages a longer spring. And so the
weather that we've got at the moment with the windy
westerlies that keep blowing across the country, that might sort
of linger into summer in some areas. Now, that can
be a good thing in some places, if you like,
a really hot nor'wester, which is the eastern side of

(39:54):
the country. But if you live on the western side
of New Zealand, there's a chance it could be cloudy
at times and not quite as hot as those other areas.
So it depends on where you live, but usually it's
sort of like El Nino encourages the spring weather pattern
to sort of drag on a little bit longer as
we go into December and early January.

Speaker 1 (40:12):
So what about after that next year? What's the rest
of summer looking like? We'll see if March is when
it really, like, sings.

Speaker 3 (40:19):
Yeah, so the latest update on El Nino is that
it will be starting to weaken once we go into
the new year. So it'll be still around, which means
the later part of summer... Early part of autumn, again,
it could be sort of autumn-like in some areas, which
isn't always great if you live in the western or

(40:39):
southern sides of the country. But there could be some
very hot days. So, you know, while I'm saying on
one side it's going to be a bit spring-like and
cloudier and cooler, if you get a nor'wester out of Australia,
that is how we break our heat records. And we've
got a higher chance of that happening this year, despite
some of the cloudy, cooler weather. So it's just like
unsettled is probably a good way of summing it up.

Speaker 1 (41:01):
Philip, sometimes the Northwester makes the cantabs go a bit
loony turn. They go crazy in Christchurch and around there
when there's a Northwester. Sounds like we might need to
boost police numbers. Yeah, are we looking to boost police
numbers in crazy Christchurch?

Speaker 3 (41:17):
Yeah, you might have to. It's funny, isn't it, how
Christchurch doesn't, like, when it's a windy Nor'wester, they go crazy.
But up in Wellington, they have it all the time,
and it's just another day.

Speaker 6 (41:24):
So, yeah, interesting.

Speaker 1 (41:27):
Crazy by nature.

Speaker 4 (41:28):
I'm a bit disappointed, Philip.

Speaker 1 (41:30):
I don't know why. It was sort of just one
of nice, consistent... Summer and a good tan guaranteed. I
thought you were going to hit us with some lovely
sunny days. We're in for a good one.

Speaker 6 (41:40):
Christmas is going.

Speaker 3 (41:41):
To be a scorcher. We'll get that as well. It's just,
you know, I'm just sort of making sure there aren't
too many complaints when January rolls around and the tent
just got blown apart or something. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (41:53):
Yeah. So, but not particularly wet?

Speaker 3 (41:58):
No, usually with El Nino, you get a lot of
rain on the west coast of the South Island, but
not so much for the western side of the North Island.
And if you live on the eastern side of New Zealand,
it usually gets very dry very quickly as we go
over the next couple of days.

Speaker 1 (42:12):
The eastern side of New Zealand for the last, like,
got pummeled with heavy rain and those crazy storms and
the flooding and the devastating, like, landslides and stuff. And
now you're telling me it's going to go polar opposite
and they're going to be parched this summer.

Speaker 3 (42:26):
Yeah, pretty much. That's usually quite often the case, actually. Yeah,
some of these eastern areas, it's a little bit like Northland.
Northland's either in a drought or it's being flooded. You know,
there's not a lot of middle ground, whereas Waikato is
a lot more in that sort of middle ground.

Speaker 6 (42:39):
So it depends on where you are.

Speaker 3 (42:41):
Yeah, you're right.

Speaker 1 (42:41):
Might be good for the wine, though. Oh, well, I
was going to say, darling. Good for the wine. On
the eastern coast. I was saying this is giving big.
Might have to tottle back to France, Philip. You know
what I mean? It's lovely. It was lovely weather there.

Speaker 3 (42:53):
Yeah, I always like to remind people that we're two
mountainous islands in the roaring 40s, you know, halfway to Antarctica.
It's not always as perfect as we'd like, but I
still think we're going to get some good days.

Speaker 1 (43:04):
On the way. Brilliant. Tans inbound. Asterix, maybe. We wear
sunblock all the time. Sunscreen all the time. Philip Duncan,
thank you. A lot of news stories this week about that,
so it's good to hear that. Good to understand it.
Good to understand it, yeah. Thank you so much. How
are you in general, Phillip?

Speaker 10 (43:23):
Are you all right?

Speaker 1 (43:24):
Personally, you all right?

Speaker 3 (43:25):
I'm doing all right.

Speaker 6 (43:26):
Thank you really for caring. Appreciate that.

Speaker 9 (43:27):
No, we do.

Speaker 1 (43:28):
We can't take it from you. Hanging out for a
hurricane or something? Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (43:32):
A little boy waits.

Speaker 1 (43:33):
A little boy waits.

Speaker 2 (43:36):
Play ZM's Fletch, Vaughn and Hayley.

Speaker 1 (43:42):
Miley on ZM. It's your Friday Flashback today from 2013.
She's got a new song out 11am this morning. Georgia
will have that playing on the wireless. Oh, I'll be
able to download it before me flight. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (43:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (43:58):
Any feedback on that one? I mean, it's a banger.
It's a certified banger. First world quality, first world problems.
What are your first world problems? I don't know. Are
they meaning to message ZB upstairs perhaps? Yeah, that's giving big.
You're looking for Oscar. The mailman has delivered and love
is not dead. I just got home from my best
mate's house after a couple of drinks turned into both

(44:19):
of us telling each other how much we love each
other and how we've felt for years.

Speaker 9 (44:23):
Wait.

Speaker 6 (44:24):
What?

Speaker 1 (44:24):
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Did that song bring them together?
Is that what you're saying? That's what I'm hearing. Hang on.
They just got home from their best mate's house after
a couple of drinks turned into both of us telling
each other how we've felt for years.

Speaker 3 (44:35):
What?

Speaker 1 (44:36):
We need more information, 218. But did they love my product? Sorry. Sorry.

Speaker 5 (44:40):
Sorry.

Speaker 1 (44:41):
Love is blossoming, and you were trying to poo-poo it
by slipping off the branch.

Speaker 4 (44:45):
We're excited for you that you have done a good job.

Speaker 1 (44:47):
218, can we have a bit more info? The nation's
invested now.

Speaker 3 (44:50):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (44:50):
This is a great love story. Guy, guy, girl, girl, girl, guy.

Speaker 4 (44:53):
Who just.

Speaker 1 (44:55):
What's happened? How have you felt this way? Did you kiss?
What do you mean you just got home? How have
you felt this way for years and not ever acted
on it? This is rom-com level stuff. I believe the
girlies are working this time. All this wasted time. Cancel
what we've got. Plan O.

Speaker 4 (45:08):
I'm sort of feeling the same. When did you fall
in love with your best friend?

Speaker 1 (45:12):
This song goes hard. Well done, Fletch. Thank you. Should
have been Seven Things. You can't please everybody. I know.
I did think about that. It's a great song also.
This song came out when I was pregnant with my
son and now I'm looking at a 13-year-old.

Speaker 5 (45:23):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (45:24):
That's how old that song is.

Speaker 4 (45:25):
It's crazy because Miley to me is always so young.

Speaker 1 (45:29):
How old is Miley? 30-something? She'd be your age, wouldn't she?
So young. Miley Cyrus. Miley Cyrus is 33 years old.

Speaker 6 (45:39):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (45:40):
She was so young when she did that.

Speaker 6 (45:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (45:42):
I thought I was much older than her. She's been
around forever. Yeah. You, flash in the pan. Okay. Okay,
some more feedback.

Speaker 4 (45:50):
Someone said I'm glad you didn't play Wrecking Ball, which
is what I.

Speaker 1 (45:52):
Was pushing for. We weren't just pushing for that. We
did call and play that. I actually did say Can't
Stop Those harder than Wrecking Ball. It's more of a jam.
Wrecking Ball's a great song. But a power ballad.

Speaker 4 (46:02):
But, you know, we're after a photo flashback. Okay, we're
just going to park that 218 message.

Speaker 1 (46:07):
218 on board. No, not on board. Carry on. Can
you just text us privately? I'll message back. I'll be like, oh,
we need more details, please.

Speaker 4 (46:14):
Yeah, but, like, just text us privately. We don't have to.
We don't have to share it with the listener.

Speaker 1 (46:20):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (46:20):
Well, let's talk other gossip because that's really, that's tickled me.
I'm so happy for you guys. Ariana Grande and Ricky Alvarez,
they are back together roughly a decade after they first
got together.

Speaker 1 (46:31):
On, off, on, off. Pete, back, Ricky, hey, whoa. Which
one was SpongeBob? Not Ricky. That was the last one.
So Ricky, SpongeBob. No, Ricky, Pete, SpongeBob. Oh, wow. So
there's been a few between.

Speaker 5 (46:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (46:48):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (46:49):
That will go down in history as one of the
most punching relationships ever, right?

Speaker 9 (46:54):
All right.

Speaker 1 (46:55):
Literally SpongeBob and literally a princess.

Speaker 10 (46:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (46:57):
So.

Speaker 4 (47:00):
Jessica Owen's looking at me. Have you got tea? The
girlies have tea.

Speaker 5 (47:04):
Okay, so our lovely friend who just texted her about.

Speaker 1 (47:06):
Okay, Park, Ariana and Rikki.

Speaker 5 (47:09):
He had quite a distinctive accent, in fairness to him,
so didn't want to go on air. But if you
open up the text machine... I think I'm in love
with you.

Speaker 1 (47:18):
Was it that?

Speaker 3 (47:19):
No.

Speaker 1 (47:19):
Okay, carry on.

Speaker 5 (47:20):
His previous message, we discussed this the other day. He
texted her about how he was going through quite a
tough breakup.

Speaker 1 (47:26):
Yes, yes, I remember this. Oh, that was the one. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.

Speaker 5 (47:31):
He, during this time since this, has been consoling with
this best friend.

Speaker 1 (47:36):
Of course.

Speaker 5 (47:37):
And then, you know, there was some consoling last night
and they both confessed their feelings for each other.

Speaker 1 (47:42):
Oh, this is beautiful. This is beautiful.

Speaker 3 (47:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (47:45):
This is fantastic. One door closes, so another opens.

Speaker 5 (47:49):
Yeah, there was someone also laughing in the background, so
I don't know if she's still there.

Speaker 8 (47:52):
Oh!

Speaker 1 (47:54):
This is weird because when my marriage ended, I said
to Fletch, you know, I've got my feelings for you.
And he was like, it's time for you to leave.
We've had our fun. And I was like, wow, I'm
not just another booty call.

Speaker 4 (48:05):
He said, I'm happy to just like keep having fun,
but this is not going any further.

Speaker 1 (48:09):
And I was like, can I use your kitchen aid?
And he's like, no, no, it's time you left. That's
why I had to buy my own kitchen aid. Yeah,
that's right. That's the story of how that happened. Well,
you missed out because I'm taken now.

Speaker 4 (48:19):
Let's just save their name in the thing so we
can touch base.

Speaker 5 (48:21):
Yeah, I said to please get back in touch in
the future because hopefully it moves forward.

Speaker 1 (48:26):
This is kind of what we want to know this morning.

Speaker 4 (48:28):
Yeah, like what was the, when did your on again,
off again go well? Or like how did it go?
Because Ariana Grande, you know, she does that performance.

Speaker 1 (48:35):
She's like, I want to think it would be, David was.

Speaker 4 (48:39):
And she said in her concert recently with their closing
night in London, I hope that Ricky is forever. I
hope that Ricky's the last one. So everyone was like, ugh.

Speaker 1 (48:48):
Audience went crazy. So on again, off again.

Speaker 4 (48:51):
Like how did it, when did you successfully make the
on again, off again work?

Speaker 1 (48:55):
Yeah, get back with an ex after a while and
it worked out. Yeah, because sometimes it's just timing. Yeah,
and it might have been you first got together, you're
younger and maybe someone goes on their OE.

Speaker 4 (49:05):
So two of my friends that have the most beautiful,
rock solid marriage I know, right?

Speaker 1 (49:09):
Not yet. No, no, no, forever. For now, for now,
for now.

Speaker 3 (49:13):
Forever.

Speaker 4 (49:14):
They were together like wildly in love and then just
that pull like I need to go and explore the world.

Speaker 1 (49:19):
I need to see it.

Speaker 10 (49:20):
Here.

Speaker 1 (49:20):
Brazilians? Yes.

Speaker 4 (49:22):
Explore the world. And then came back and was like, no,
it's you. It's, like, definitely you.

Speaker 1 (49:27):
That's great. That's pretty cute. Yeah, I know. Okay, well, 0800-DIALS-N-M.
We'd love to take your calls now. Text through if
you've got a story like this or you know someone
this has happened to. 9696. When did you successfully get
back with an ex?

Speaker 2 (49:41):
Oh, wow, the riz.

Speaker 1 (49:44):
Right now, we are talking about those.

Speaker 4 (49:49):
The relationships that failed but then came back together and succeeded.
Because Ariana Grande is back with Ricky Alvarez after 10
years of off again, on again.

Speaker 1 (49:57):
And then in her song where she.

Speaker 4 (49:59):
Changes the lyric for Thank U, Next, she said, I
hope that Ricky is the last one, basically.

Speaker 1 (50:05):
Julia, good morning. When did you successfully get back with
an ex?

Speaker 2 (50:09):
Good morning.

Speaker 3 (50:09):
I got back with an ex about four and a
half years ago.

Speaker 1 (50:14):
And what was the gap from when you started seeing
each other again?

Speaker 3 (50:17):
So I first dated him when I was 15.

Speaker 9 (50:21):
Oh, wow.

Speaker 3 (50:21):
And then I went away.

Speaker 1 (50:24):
I moved towns to go and study.

Speaker 3 (50:26):
And then I came back and I was again with
him at 17.

Speaker 2 (50:28):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (50:30):
And then I went.

Speaker 3 (50:32):
Overseas and then came back, had family, and got back
with him when I was, I think, 35.

Speaker 1 (50:40):
Good God. Wait, so you went overseas, you came back,
you met someone else and had, like, a family with them.

Speaker 9 (50:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (50:46):
Yeah, and then got divorced and reconnected, and we've got
our first baby, Julie.

Speaker 3 (50:51):
Oh, my God.

Speaker 8 (50:52):
Oh, my God.

Speaker 1 (50:53):
It was just meant to be, Julia. Like, third time lucky.
You were stubborn all around. Oh, my gosh.

Speaker 4 (50:59):
I mean, you've got a lovely family out of the
other one.

Speaker 1 (51:01):
That's fine.

Speaker 4 (51:02):
But, oh, my God, I love this. And do you
feel so like everything is right?

Speaker 10 (51:07):
Oh, definitely.

Speaker 3 (51:08):
Definitely.

Speaker 1 (51:10):
That's nice. That's nice. That's beautiful. Thanks, Julia. Messages in.
I accidentally Snapchatted my ex a video of my flat
cat that had attacked a bird. Not what I thought
you meant to say.

Speaker 3 (51:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (51:23):
Calvin thought it too because she reads smutty books.

Speaker 10 (51:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (51:26):
Dirty mind. I accidentally Snapchatted a video of my flaccid cat.
My flaccid cat. That had attacked a bird. Two kids
and 10 years later, we're still going strong. It's all
about timing.

Speaker 6 (51:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (51:37):
Got back with my childhood sweetheart. Really was a case
of right person, wrong time. My bestie is currently living
a romance movie. She dated this guy in high school
for three years, but split after graduation in 2016 as
she was moving to America and they didn't want to
hold each other back. Fast forward to 2023. So what's that?
Seven years later, she's moved back. Two months later, she
met him for a coffee as friends. They're now married

(51:59):
and have a little baby. I tell you, those coffees
with friends is dangerous.

Speaker 3 (52:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (52:02):
Oh, we're just catching up. No, no, no. We still
really respect each other. This is me and my husband's story.
We took it two years apart after a decade. Now
we're back together and happier than ever. Sometimes you just
got to go and learn a few things, don't you?
What kind of things?

Speaker 6 (52:16):
Tricks.

Speaker 1 (52:17):
Like pottery.

Speaker 4 (52:18):
Pottery.

Speaker 1 (52:19):
Hang gliding. Who you are. I don't need any encouragement.
I know where I'll be going tonight. Lol. Someone's going
to be slipping into the ex's DMs tonight. Is that what? Okay.

Speaker 9 (52:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (52:31):
Do it. Do it. They may be yearning after you.
Why are you shaking your head like that? Not everyone
has to do.

Speaker 6 (52:39):
It.

Speaker 1 (52:40):
But there's plenty more fish in the sea, you know.
Why tuck into another terakehi when there's a snapper on there?
There's a beautiful snapper. There's a bigger. There's an Atlantic salmon, Phil.

Speaker 3 (52:51):
Oh, yeah.

Speaker 1 (52:52):
All of us are getting Atlantic salmon, brother. There's a
groper out there. Yeah, and a John Dory, and they
open their mouth real wide. There's also some of those
ones at the bottom of the deep sea that look
a bit weird. The blobfish. Hey, we've all ended up
with a blobfish. Maybe you are a blobfish. Maybe you
are the blobfish. And bless you.

Speaker 4 (53:08):
I am sometimes the blobfish, and then I see it.
I catch my own reflection in the ocean.

Speaker 1 (53:12):
Time to be a snapper again. Plenty more fish in
the CBD. That's good from you, 433. It's Friday.

Speaker 2 (53:22):
Play ZM's Flesh, Fawn and Hayley.

Speaker 1 (53:25):
Right now it's time for... FACT OF THE DAY, DAY, DAY, DAY, DAY.
All right, it's Electricity Week and.

(53:49):
It's Electricity Week here at Fact of the Day, and
today's Fact of the Day is brought to you by St.

Speaker 3 (53:54):
Pierre's.

Speaker 1 (53:55):
He nearly forgot again, didn't he?

Speaker 4 (53:57):
I saw him during the song we're singing.

Speaker 1 (53:59):
He's looking at the sheet.

Speaker 4 (54:00):
I think, holy shit, unprompted.

Speaker 1 (54:02):
He's going to remember.

Speaker 4 (54:03):
And then he gets into the jingle. The sheet goes down.

Speaker 1 (54:05):
I was like, we're out. I'm a routine guy. Yeah,
you are. I've got my established ways and neural pathways.
Today's fact of the day is brought to you by St. Pierre's.
Today's sushi of the day is eight pieces of smoked
salmon avo. For $ 8. 40. Now, you know what they say
about salmon. Why do you sound confused reading that? You've

(54:26):
got to deliver it better than that.

Speaker 4 (54:27):
That made me want to buy less sushi than ever before,
and I love sushi.

Speaker 1 (54:33):
Did it put you in a sashimi mindset? Yes. Today's
fact of the day, brought to you by St. Pierre's. No, no, no, no, no, no.
They're not getting a freebie. I'm going to talk all
over it. I'm going to talk all over it. They're
not getting a freebie. They're not getting a freebie here
on my show. They pay top dollar for four and
a half.

Speaker 4 (54:48):
Do you know what I could really go for right now?
Some smoked salmon and avocado sushi.

Speaker 1 (54:52):
Great for the brain, of course. Is that what I,
is that because I said it? I need to get
back into a bit of salmon. Because, you know, I
don't take the fish oil tablets because I burp and
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (55:00):
The taste of fish afterwards. You can smoke salmon, but
you can also just do eight minutes in the air fryer.

Speaker 1 (55:04):
Eight minutes in the air fryer. That's handy and convenient.
Bit of baking paper in there. Crisp up the skin.
Because I do need to get more salmon. Do you
reckon if I go to St.

Speaker 4 (55:12):
Pierre's today and I walk in for sushi, they're going
to go, get out.

Speaker 1 (55:15):
We don't want to be associated with you. I was wondering,
I have consulted sales. Are they able to stop sponsoring
halfway through the month? We've got their money. We've got
their money. They're loving it. They're loving the job you're doing.
When you remember. When you remember. Yep, that's right. And
add a bit of pep.

Speaker 3 (55:33):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (55:33):
Not today's sushi is some sort of salmon. Again, maybe
pre-read it. Anyway, carry on. Just some tips for next week.
My favourite form of electricity is lightning. I love when
there's a thunderstorm. I love fork lightning the most. Sheet lightning,
you're okay, but I like to see where it's hitting.

Speaker 4 (55:52):
No, I like sheet lightning when it lights the sky.

Speaker 3 (55:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (55:55):
What about when you see the fork? Yeah. I like
lightning when you're in an aeroplane. No. Oh. That's what
I'm starting to pray to a god I don't believe in.
You know what I mean? I'll chuck a few around
too if I'm on a plane and we hit a
bit of turbulence. I do all of them. Yeah, I'll
do Allah.

Speaker 10 (56:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (56:11):
I'll do Moses.

Speaker 4 (56:14):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (56:14):
Was he? I don't know if he, no, I don't think.
I'll do Zeus. I'll do Zeus. I'm going to let
Zeus lay off with the lightning. I'm doing the elephant.
I'm doing the blue elephant. The blue elephant. Yeah, yeah,
with all the arms.

Speaker 3 (56:25):
Buddha.

Speaker 1 (56:26):
Buddha's getting a red hot one.

Speaker 10 (56:29):
Buddha.

Speaker 1 (56:29):
Krishna. Krishna will get a. Don't let me die, Buddha. Buddha,
don't let this plane go down, Buddha.

Speaker 9 (56:34):
Maui.

Speaker 1 (56:35):
Campervans.

Speaker 10 (56:36):
Sure.

Speaker 1 (56:36):
Proud of the Maui. Demigod, of course. I'll just run
through the full list when the plane's dropping 200 feet.
Sorry for everything. I believe, I believe. I take my
phone out of aeroplane mode and I Google just a
list of gods. Top ten gods. Top ten gods. Top
10 most popular gods. I'm now going to Google top
10 gods. I don't think Google will want to be

(56:57):
at all associated with the list of top 10 gods.
I think Jesus will be number one. Or God will
be God. God needs another name too. There's no single
official list. Yeah. Ask an AI. They're not afraid. Top
10 major gods by world mythology. Yeah, major gods. That's
what we mean.

Speaker 10 (57:14):
Zeus.

Speaker 3 (57:15):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (57:15):
Hot. Shiva. Hindu. Yeah. Vishnu. Also Hindu. Vishnu's the elephant.

Speaker 3 (57:20):
Odin. Odin.

Speaker 1 (57:22):
Odin would be a great one to pray to.

Speaker 10 (57:24):
Ra.

Speaker 1 (57:24):
Egyptian. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (57:26):
Thor.

Speaker 10 (57:27):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (57:27):
Another Norwegian. Yeah, Norwegian.

Speaker 9 (57:29):
Scandinavian.

Speaker 4 (57:29):
Kind of help to think that Jesus' dad's pretty pissed
off he's not on the top.

Speaker 1 (57:33):
But he's got, he's just, yeah. Amatera Masu.

Speaker 8 (57:37):
Huh?

Speaker 1 (57:37):
Japanese. Yum, I know. Well, they're finally a god that
makes sense to me. Yeah. Worshipping pudding. I'll worship pudding.
I'll worship all the pudding. Dear pudding, don't let this
pudding crash. I've been a true servant. Dear delicious Italian
coffee and cream-based pudding with sponge, I don't know how
you've become worshipped in Japan, but I don't want to
question it right now. Little lady fingers, hear me now.

(57:59):
If you let me land, I'll never pick key lime
pie over you at a restaurant ever again. I might
dip it home into pecan.

Speaker 9 (58:06):
Oh, yeah.

Speaker 1 (58:07):
There's also Marduk, a Babylonian god. Yeah, I worship Marduk.
Where's old mate White Robe? It's inappropriate on a plane
when it's going down for you to be worshipping Marduk.
Excuse me. Can I have a blanket? You would, though, eh?
How quickly would it go down? I don't think in

(58:30):
that moment you'd be able to do that, Hayley. You
don't reckon?

Speaker 3 (58:34):
No.

Speaker 1 (58:35):
Love a challenge. And then the- You press in the light.
They're like, sir, we're plummeting to the earth. What do
you want? Blanket, please. And then the plane just levels
off at 10,000 feet and everyone's safe. And then Vaughn
gets seen by the police officers when the plane lands
and escorted off the flight. I don't even want to
do Fact of the Day. I've had so much fun already.
It's just not going to measure up to it. Okay, anyway,

(59:00):
carry on. Lightning strikes the earth four million times a day.

Speaker 8 (59:05):
Right?

Speaker 1 (59:05):
Can I just say also, this guy's been anti-throat spray forever.
He's always like... get off that throat spray. It's natural.
And he's on my heart because it's herbal. They're delicious.
It's like honey. Go quiet again. This is what we
just heard. Okay, this is what it sounds like. Sounds
like someone's worshipping Ma there. Yeah, that sounds like some
real Ma there. Vaughan Alan Smith. St. Pears do not

(59:29):
want to be associated with this film.

Speaker 9 (59:31):
Carry on.

Speaker 4 (59:31):
We've lost this company so much money in the space
of 10 minutes.

Speaker 1 (59:34):
You've probably lost the sponsorship. Someone said, can you hurry up?
I'm trying to get out of the car. Yeah, they
need to know the electricity fact. Come on, Vaughan. Okay.
I can't even remember what it was. Lightning strikes, sir.
Four million times a day. Each one of those bolts
holds around 10 billion joules of energy. Okay, or 2,780 kilowatts. Yep.

(59:57):
So what are we talking about? The average Kiwi household
uses 8,500 kilowatts of energy a week. So one bolt
carries roughly enough energy to run the average New Zealand
house for four months. Each thing?

Speaker 10 (01:00:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:00:12):
Nice.

Speaker 1 (01:00:12):
Well, we need some lightning catches, don't we? We need
some lightning catches and some batteries. I beg your pardon,
instead of these bloody solar panels. Well, you just think
one little funnel. Yeah, I know. We need to catch
the lightning.

Speaker 4 (01:00:24):
Rianne says, I hopped out of the car at the
beginning of Fact of the Day.

Speaker 1 (01:00:28):
I've had a chat. Turned back in. You guys are
still going. The fact wasn't even that good. I laughed
so hard it felt like the bits that hold my
heart to the tubes were going to come off.

Speaker 9 (01:00:37):
Oh, yes.

Speaker 1 (01:00:40):
That's not good. I don't think that's good. Okay, so
today's fact of the day. I better give them a
freebie because I feel like they might want to pull
the sponsorship up. Yeah, we're in trouble with St.

Speaker 9 (01:00:49):
Pierre's.

Speaker 1 (01:00:50):
Yeah, St. Pierre's. The plunk. Plunk. Today's Sushi of the
Day is eight pieces of smoked salmon avocado for $ 8. 40.
Fact of the day, day, day, day, day. The Fletchborn
and Hayley Big Pod.

Speaker 4 (01:01:20):
Well, this is years ago that this first popped up.
I was looking in my folder to find these. It
was well back just when I first started on the
radio with you guys.

Speaker 1 (01:01:30):
So four years.

Speaker 4 (01:01:31):
Where I was on the internet and did someone message
me or did I come across a stock image? And
it's called Woman Sniffing Wind. And it is my face.
And I just don't know how else to describe it.
But that woman is exactly me. I thought when you
were first like, I'm a stock image.

Speaker 1 (01:01:52):
That used me. That actually you actually had done a. No, no.
That woman is not me.

Speaker 4 (01:01:58):
Like, her ears are slightly different to mine in shape,
but other than that, she has the same.

Speaker 1 (01:02:02):
Better, I'd say. Yeah. You're skinnier. Thank you. That was
such quick recovery. Your ears are skinnier. No, no, no.
I have said you've got skinny ears. Yeah, like, translate
to the guts. Down, down, down, down, down, down. Down, down, down, down, down. Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop.
Keep your ass fat. No, no, no, down. Come on, down, down, down.

Speaker 4 (01:02:21):
So she has my hair colour, my eyebrows, my eyelashes,
my smile... Everything about it.

Speaker 1 (01:02:27):
Your rosy cheeks. My rosy cheeks. She's got the same cheeks.
The apple cheeks, yeah. Because you're side-on to me now
with that photo. It's the exact same cheek. It goes
like that. It's insane.

Speaker 4 (01:02:36):
And then there's another one of her sniffing wind. Woman
sniffing the wind.

Speaker 1 (01:02:39):
That's me. It's my mouth. Lips are not thin but
not full. Did you ever find out where she's from? No,
I couldn't find her.

Speaker 4 (01:02:45):
I reverse image searched it for ages. It's just stock image.
So it's sort of this weird global thing. Anyway, wake
up this morning early, too early. And my lovely, I
was going to say delicious, my delicious friend James Roque, comedian,
he lives over in Canada, so we're on a different timeline.

Speaker 1 (01:03:02):
What's he doing living in Canada?

Speaker 10 (01:03:03):
Comedy.

Speaker 1 (01:03:04):
Oh, big comedy scene there. Big comedy scene in Canada. Yeah, Toronto.

Speaker 9 (01:03:07):
Toronto.

Speaker 1 (01:03:08):
And he messages me and he says, bro, how is
this not you? Or did you do some stock image work?
And I was like, dude. I was like, I know.

Speaker 4 (01:03:17):
I said, this bitch, she haunts me. He said, do
not tell me you've been sent this before. And I
was like, yes, like 10 years ago I found this.
And I sent him the photos of woman sniffing wind.

Speaker 1 (01:03:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:03:28):
And he said, that's the same lady. And this time
it is her. And she's not sniffing the wind. She's
reclined in a Chinese massage chair.

Speaker 1 (01:03:37):
No, she's still sniffing the wind. It's the same photo.
They've just rotated her head. Yeah, they have. They've totally
made it. They've just rotated the head. You're still sniffing
the wind.

Speaker 4 (01:03:45):
She is selling Rest and Go, 20-minute, you know, those
like airport.

Speaker 1 (01:03:53):
Chairs. Airport massage chairs.

Speaker 4 (01:03:54):
Yeah, and I think somewhere in the world will be
these in an airport or some kind of situation, and
there's the sign, and it's going to look like Hayley
Sproul is saying, come for just P100 for 20 minutes
to reduce anxiety and depression, increase well-being and calmness.

Speaker 6 (01:04:11):
Right.

Speaker 1 (01:04:11):
We've put a story on our photo. Yeah, to see
woman sniffing wind. Sorry, we've put a photo on our story. Yeah.
That's the one you're after.

Speaker 3 (01:04:17):
F-E-H-Z-N.

Speaker 1 (01:04:19):
It's woman sniffing queens. It's literally exactly the same. They've
mirrored it. Yeah. Because you look at how big that
woman is compared to that chair. They've done a terrible job.
They've really blown me out. They make you look like
a giant woman in a child's chair. I need to find,
we need to find her, the model.

Speaker 4 (01:04:36):
Maybe because this is old, like she's frozen in time,
whereas I've been weathered by age.

Speaker 1 (01:04:42):
Well, she may have been weathered by age. No, that's
what I mean.

Speaker 4 (01:04:44):
But we look at her like that. I'm like, what
does she look like now?

Speaker 1 (01:04:46):
Where is she?

Speaker 4 (01:04:47):
She gone to Turkey and got a lift, as her
doppelganger plans to do.

Speaker 1 (01:04:51):
Well, if you're in an airport and you see Hayley
advertising massage, Jess. It's not Hayley. It's not.

Speaker 2 (01:04:57):
The Fletchborn and Hayley Big Pod.

Speaker 1 (01:05:01):
A new study in personality and social psychology. And it
looked at the singlehood self-expansion, the idea of singlehood self-expansion. Now,
I promo this as the perk of being single, but
to enjoy the perk of being single, you have to
see being single as a perk. Oh, well, I do.
I do. You do. Yeah. But not for the same

(01:05:22):
reason you do, which is just being able to pretty
much hook up with anyone you want. No, just do
what I want. Exactly. My perk and what I love
about it is I do what I want. Single people.
I don't have to be like, oh, God, hurry up. Totally.
Single people who believe their status of being single gave
them room to grow and try new things and develop
new skills and see new perspectives. actually did more novel

(01:05:44):
and expanding activities than people who saw being single as
the waiting room to being in a couple.

Speaker 4 (01:05:50):
I found this so much when I became single and
was on the dates, on the apps, and all of
my friends who had been single for such a long
time were like, oh my God, isn't it horrible? And
I was like, I'm just having the best time. And
that was the difference. I saw becoming single as a
perk and an opportunity to go out and have a
bit of freedom and a sense of complete independence and

(01:06:14):
no one can tell you what to.

Speaker 1 (01:06:15):
Do or whatever.

Speaker 4 (01:06:15):
Whereas they saw being single as something that they were
like kind of trapped in and like were just waiting
to get out of it.

Speaker 1 (01:06:21):
Trying to get out of it, right?

Speaker 9 (01:06:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:06:23):
And that's what you hear from people who are perpetually
single when they stop looking, they find someone because they're, Yeah. Oh, sorry.
I reckon punch the mic.

Speaker 4 (01:06:30):
So the perk of being single can only be a
perk if you can't pay that down.

Speaker 1 (01:06:39):
So it doesn't mean they're doing everything by themselves because 82%
of these growth moments that people indicated happened with other
people like friends or family, not romantic partners. So you
weren't tied to this one person. You could do a
range of things with a range of different people. Yeah.

Speaker 9 (01:06:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:06:53):
That's just Fletcher's life. Yeah. Yeah. He's always got somebody
on the bloody blow to have a Friday afternoon drink with, Dr.
Shawnee or Mike. You're just musing and perusing. Yeah. Love it.
But it's like anything. It's what you make it, right?
It's what you make it.

Speaker 4 (01:07:09):
And I think there's some people that would get to–
And enjoy that for a moment and then be like, oh, no, you.

Speaker 1 (01:07:15):
Know, I want someone to. Some people hate being single. Yeah,
I want to do life with someone. But then those
are the people that just end up in these relationships
that they also hate. So I don't know what can
make them happy.

Speaker 4 (01:07:25):
You can leave them.

Speaker 1 (01:07:26):
No, but they don't, do they?

Speaker 4 (01:07:27):
Yes, no, they don't. They famously don't. No, I try
to say this with all of my single friends. I
say to all my single friends.

Speaker 1 (01:07:35):
Father's Day. If you're single. Father's Day, Sunday.

Speaker 4 (01:07:37):
Father's Day, Sunday, single friends. If you're single and you
don't want to be, it's fine. You know, you stay
on the app, stay engaged, stay out there, but like
go and do all the things that you can do
because no one's telling you no. Buy the things, take
the trip, go and see the things because once you
have another life to consider, you have to make compromises.

Speaker 3 (01:07:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:07:58):
Play Zed Ends, Flesh, Vaughan and Hayley.

Speaker 1 (01:08:00):
Fate and the Date. Fletch just left a gap there
at the end of the Black Eyed Peas song in
case someone was taping it off the radio. It used
to annoy me when you guys would talk over it, man. Well,
we don't do that anymore. You can tape it and
we'll leave nice fat ends blank for you to tape. Now,
Brooke joins us. Good morning again, Brooke.

Speaker 9 (01:08:22):
Morning.

Speaker 7 (01:08:22):
Feeling much better today.

Speaker 3 (01:08:24):
Oh, good.

Speaker 7 (01:08:24):
Normally the early starts a bit of a drag, but
I'm excited.

Speaker 1 (01:08:26):
Yeah, well, I've got a little treat for you.

Speaker 4 (01:08:28):
So if you've just joined the show, Brooke is our
night host and... I'm helping her. I'm her wing woman,
helping you on your quest for love, which so far
has been unsuccessful. No results as of yet, but optimistic.

Speaker 6 (01:08:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:08:42):
Okay, good, good, good.

Speaker 4 (01:08:42):
And Eclipse is joining us and we're putting our fate
in the date. Now, you know, at the bottom of
an Eclipse, I'm on the grape ones, by the way.

Speaker 3 (01:08:49):
Oh, yum.

Speaker 1 (01:08:49):
I love the grape ones. They're little treats. I have
a grape one.

Speaker 4 (01:08:52):
On the best before date, so mine now is 11
November 26.

Speaker 1 (01:08:55):
There's always dates. Okay. And we're putting our fate in
the numbers.

Speaker 4 (01:08:58):
A lot of people following numbers. You're not telling us you're...
Here you go.

Speaker 1 (01:09:01):
Here's a grape. Thank you. You're not telling us you're...
I always do two, by the way. Always? Yeah, that's standard.

Speaker 3 (01:09:07):
Always.

Speaker 1 (01:09:07):
Thank you. And same with chewing gums. Three's a crowd. Two's...
Two's perfect.

Speaker 3 (01:09:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:09:12):
To see if there's a match in the numbers.

Speaker 7 (01:09:14):
Did I tell you, I've literally been seeing my number everywhere.
Like on the bus this morning, I saw my number.
I just feel like so aligned with it.

Speaker 1 (01:09:20):
Are you the 275 Sandringham? Why do you know that? Don't.
That was the bus that Helen Clark's husband used to take.
275 Sandringham? Yeah, when Vaughan lived in Sandringham, Peter used
to take the bus from uni. Wow. Yeah, is that
your bus? That's a really good route. It like drops
me off right here. Oh, that's perfect. We're not here
to talk about buses, we're here to talk about love.
But the number. The number of the bus, right? The number.

Speaker 4 (01:09:43):
That's all aligning. So I presented you a short, quick
little list of people that I've been submitting at Zenim
online to go on a date with you. I think
that maybe they know someone who could fall in love
with Lovey Brook. And one of the people I presented
to you, you immediately said no.

Speaker 1 (01:09:58):
Oh, no. Is this because his name was a tank engine? Yes, correct.

Speaker 3 (01:10:01):
Thomas.

Speaker 1 (01:10:01):
Well, after the show, Thomas. Oh, I'm so sorry. He
goes by Tommy. Good morning, Tommy.

Speaker 3 (01:10:06):
Tommy.

Speaker 6 (01:10:06):
How are we going?

Speaker 1 (01:10:07):
Good. Yeah, bloody good, Tommy.

Speaker 4 (01:10:09):
Now, what do you think of Brooke, like, poo-pooing you
straight away because your name's Thomas?

Speaker 6 (01:10:15):
Oh, there's what it is, eh?

Speaker 1 (01:10:17):
Only up from here. I like to start on a
bad foot. Tommy's pretty relaxed.

Speaker 4 (01:10:21):
Now, Tommy, before we let you chat to Brooke, what
I'm going to do is we're going to put on
a one-minute timer, a bit of a speed date situation
for you, Brooke.

Speaker 1 (01:10:29):
Cool.

Speaker 4 (01:10:30):
Tommy, I'm going to hit you with a bunch of
questions that I personally want to know on a first
date to try to get to know you a little bit.
And afterwards, Brooke, we'll have a little vibe check, a
little number check. Now, we believe Tommy's number. I've got
Tommy's number here. It's 100127.

Speaker 1 (01:10:44):
That's on the bottom of Tommy's Eclipse 10. Eclipse 10.
All right. Does that date do anything for you, Brooke?
It does. It does. She's been very cagey with it. Okay, Tommy,
are you ready? Two seven is in the bus route number.
I'm just saying. Yeah, it's actually a really good bus route.
Two seven five is Andrew. I'm just saying. Okay, Tommy,
can I hit you with some questions? And then, hold on.

(01:11:05):
So two seven and then a 10 divided by two
is five times one is five. Two seven five. That's
math not. spiritual sort of soul connection. Oh, we're not
doing maths. No, you're just doing maths. You're just doing maths. No, that's...
Like that TV show where they put up all the
numbers and you have to make it work the other number.

Speaker 6 (01:11:23):
No.

Speaker 1 (01:11:23):
That's lotto. Okay, Tommy, we're going to have 60 seconds.
Hayley's going to hit you with some questions now for
our speed dating round. Quick questions, quick answers. Your time
starts now. Tommy, cats or dogs?

Speaker 9 (01:11:37):
Cats.

Speaker 1 (01:11:37):
Do you still follow your ex on Instagram?

Speaker 3 (01:11:40):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (01:11:40):
Do you have a 10-year plan?

Speaker 4 (01:11:43):
Yes. If Brooke was to come to your house, what
would you cook her?

Speaker 6 (01:11:47):
Chicken teriyaki.

Speaker 3 (01:11:48):
Yum.

Speaker 4 (01:11:48):
Someone cuts you off by not merging properly. How do
you react?

Speaker 9 (01:11:53):
I don't.

Speaker 1 (01:11:54):
Wow, calm.

Speaker 4 (01:11:55):
Brooke is premenstrual, behaving like an absolute menace. What is
one sentence you say to her to calm her down
without using the words calm down?

Speaker 6 (01:12:01):
Do you want some chocolate?

Speaker 1 (01:12:04):
Oh, get in. Oh, my God. Get in. Was it
a minute? We're moving that far. No, we're still going.
29 seconds. Tommy, have you ever won a competition in
your life?

Speaker 8 (01:12:14):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (01:12:14):
Gold or silver?

Speaker 10 (01:12:15):
Gold.

Speaker 1 (01:12:18):
Winter or summer?

Speaker 6 (01:12:20):
Winter.

Speaker 1 (01:12:20):
Are you close with your family?

Speaker 5 (01:12:22):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (01:12:22):
Do you have a job?

Speaker 3 (01:12:24):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (01:12:24):
Are you a feminist?

Speaker 3 (01:12:25):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (01:12:28):
The answer is yes. The correct answer is always yes.
We'll explain the term feminism to you. Did you finish
high school? Oh, there we go. 60 seconds. Listen, we'll
forgive you the fitness. Hey, the chocolate.

Speaker 7 (01:12:42):
There was an array of good answers and then some.

Speaker 1 (01:12:45):
I've written something that I had a question mark beside.
Friends with X, follows X on Instagram. What do we
think of that?

Speaker 7 (01:12:51):
It depends because in my head that goes, ooh, it's
unfinished business, but also maybe it just ended nicely, Tommy.

Speaker 1 (01:12:58):
Tommy, do you want to expand on that at all?

Speaker 3 (01:13:01):
Yeah, no, no.

Speaker 6 (01:13:03):
It ended very, very mutually, very... Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:13:06):
Well, we will be unfollowing her if this goes forward, Tommy.
I'm just saying. Yeah, yeah. Just to let you know,
we'll be blocking that. Yeah. And let's mute her stories
in her post.

Speaker 7 (01:13:15):
You don't heart react to her stories, though, do you, Tommy?

Speaker 3 (01:13:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:13:18):
I don't react to any of her stories, no. Okay.
And can I ask how old you are, Tommy?

Speaker 6 (01:13:23):
I'm 27.

Speaker 1 (01:13:23):
Oh, yeah. Do you like hot models photos on Instagram too, Tommy?
That could be a good question for the next speed dating. Oh, yeah,
what celebrities do you follow? That's so telling. Oh, that's
a really good question. Yeah, that's a good one. We'll
save that for the next speed round. Chicken teriyaki, is
that a sort of a goop pack at chicken teriyaki
or do you make it from scratch?

Speaker 6 (01:13:39):
I do use a bottled sauce.

Speaker 1 (01:13:41):
Oh, yum. Yeah, I can't tell the difference. You can't
tell the difference? It's actually better than when you make
it from scratch. Yeah, there's more sugar.

Speaker 9 (01:13:47):
Oh, love.

Speaker 1 (01:13:48):
Love, love, love.

Speaker 4 (01:13:49):
And Tommy, can I ask you, like, in the nature
of putting fate out there into something like a date
or some numbers, are you a bit woo-woo?

Speaker 1 (01:13:58):
Are you open-minded to the idea of fate?

Speaker 6 (01:14:02):
Yeah, no, definitely am, yep.

Speaker 1 (01:14:03):
Okay, well, this is great. Well, fantastic.

Speaker 4 (01:14:07):
I think you did quite well. Tommy, we are going
to come back to you. I mean, we'll come back
to you. We're not going to give the decision now,
but just a first impression.

Speaker 7 (01:14:14):
I think the feminist thing, there's a little, but I
think Tommy's got his head screwed on and the dates
do line up somewhere.

Speaker 1 (01:14:22):
Oh, okay. Okay. Okay, well, we are putting our fate
in the Eclipse Mints Best Before Date. You can go
to ZM online now and let us know your Eclipse
Best Before Date to see if we can make a match.
Maybe we can get you on our next speed dating round.

Speaker 4 (01:14:34):
My Best Before Date is 11-11. That's angel numbers.

Speaker 3 (01:14:36):
11-11. 11-11.

Speaker 1 (01:14:36):
Everything happens at 11-11. Mine's at the 11th of the 11th.
It is, yeah. That's crazy, man. That's crazy, man. I
love this. Thank you, Brooke. Leave it with me. I
think what I'm.

Speaker 4 (01:14:48):
Going to do is I'm going to organise you a
couple more of these.

Speaker 7 (01:14:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:14:51):
You know, kind of like those old shows. Contestant number
one was Tommy. I think he did quite well.

Speaker 1 (01:14:55):
Contestant number two, maybe I'll organise them for a Tuesday. Okay.
If you don't mind getting up early again. No, not
for this.

Speaker 7 (01:15:02):
Yeah, of course.

Speaker 4 (01:15:07):
Right now, I want to know from you, when did
you do something just because a friend did?

Speaker 1 (01:15:13):
If Jessica jumped off a bridge, would you follow her? Yes, mum,
I would. Well, if she landed and came up and
looked like she had fun, maybe it's a fun bridge jump. Mate, exactly.
Did you, how long, when did you meet your best friend, Jess?
When I was four. Did you go to the same
high school?

Speaker 9 (01:15:24):
No.

Speaker 1 (01:15:25):
Because you went to private school. I went private, she
went public. Was that hard? Terrible. Because I would imagine
you would have just gone public just to go with
your best friend.

Speaker 4 (01:15:33):
I fought with my parents relentlessly. to go, I need
to go to the same school as Jess. And they
were like, no, you're a rascal. We need to confine
you within the Presbyterian bounds of Queen Margaret.

Speaker 1 (01:15:46):
How did that go? It was fine.

Speaker 4 (01:15:48):
I hated not being with Jess, but... our friendship was
strong enough by that point. But so I'm asking this
because Ariana Grande, again, we talk about Ariana, has pulled
out of a Stephen Sondheim West End revival musical called
Sunday in the Park with George. And she announced this
and was like, no, I'm not going.

Speaker 1 (01:16:07):
To do it anymore. Because she's retreating to... She's got
a lot of work to do, right? She's stepping back
from the limelight. She's in public. Looking after herself.

Speaker 5 (01:16:16):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:16:17):
Doing a bit of self-care out of the limelight stuff.
And then Jonathan Bailey was like, nah, I don't want
to do it. And everyone's like, are you just doing
that because she's not doing it?

Speaker 1 (01:16:26):
Because they're friends, right? Yeah, they are friends. I'm guessing
he signed up because she was doing it.

Speaker 3 (01:16:30):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:16:31):
He said the show. Wicked friends. Yes, they are.

Speaker 4 (01:16:35):
So he said, like, followed her out, basically, in a statement.
He said, she's one of my dearest friends. My support
for her is unwavering. It's just a passion project. And
I'm just going to step back after.

Speaker 1 (01:16:46):
You've thought about it a lot. He doesn't need to
do that.

Speaker 4 (01:16:49):
And also, like, I've done this before when you're like, oh,
my God, you're doing this thing. You're doing this gig.
It's going to be so cool. We're going to have
so much fun. Then they don't do it or they
can't do it.

Speaker 1 (01:16:55):
And you're like, oh, lame. I'm not going now. Yeah, lame.
Now I've got to do this shit thing and you're
not going to be there. This is what we want
to know this morning. What have you done because a
friend did? And maybe it was something reckless, you know? Yeah.
You're in Vegas and she's like, I'm going to get
a tattoo. And you're like, fine. Or maybe it was
go to the same school or go to the same
uni or study the same thing just because a friend did. Yeah,
maybe you didn't have a vision.

Speaker 5 (01:17:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:17:17):
And you just went, okay, what are you doing?

Speaker 1 (01:17:18):
I'll just do that. Maybe it was holidaying somewhere just
because a friend did. You would never normally go there.
Whatever it is, 0800-DARLS.M is the number. You can text
through 9696. What did you do just because a friend did?

Speaker 4 (01:17:30):
Ariana Grande pulling out of a West End production. Jonathan
Bailey following suit. Doesn't want to do it without him.
Is he taking his slutty little glasses with him?

Speaker 1 (01:17:37):
He is.

Speaker 4 (01:17:39):
I've never seen a man flirt so hard with another man.
His way towards you.

Speaker 1 (01:17:42):
When with me and him. Yeah. It was really wild.
Wild chemistry. What was that, Jurassic Park? It was Jurassic. God,
that movie was terrible. It was and I couldn't. We
had to pretend it was good and it wasn't. It
was terrible.

Speaker 6 (01:17:54):
It was awful.

Speaker 1 (01:17:55):
But they were all so lovely, weren't they?

Speaker 3 (01:17:56):
Don't say that.

Speaker 1 (01:17:57):
They were amazing. Why are you mouthing don't say that?
It was so long ago. They were amazing. It's not
in the movie jurisdiction anymore.

Speaker 4 (01:18:02):
The three of us actually got in my car afterwards
and were like, oh Jesus.

Speaker 1 (01:18:05):
Everyone said it was a pig. But they were all lovely.
They were lovely. Not their problem. Sorry if we fooled
you into going on that movie. Well, great. The CGI
was great. Got you. I love dinosaur part. Yeah. Why
were they on a boat for so much of it?
I love dinosaur part. This is my first day at
work and I'm apparently learning a new language. You're a
good boy. I love the dinosaurs.

Speaker 9 (01:18:23):
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:18:23):
Well, Jonathan Bailey.

Speaker 4 (01:18:24):
Jonathan Bailey was doing the West End production and Ariana
pulled out.

Speaker 1 (01:18:28):
And didn't want to do it.

Speaker 4 (01:18:30):
So we've asked you, what did you do just because
a friend did it?

Speaker 1 (01:18:33):
Kim, what did you do because of a friend?

Speaker 10 (01:18:35):
Hello. So my bestie swam, well, decided to swim at
100 different beaches in a year.

Speaker 3 (01:18:41):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (01:18:42):
And I loved the ocean.

Speaker 10 (01:18:43):
So I thought I got inspired and followed in her footsteps.

Speaker 1 (01:18:47):
Wait, when did she do this? Was it in New
Zealand or? all over the world or?

Speaker 10 (01:18:51):
In New Zealand.

Speaker 1 (01:18:53):
We are just one big beach.

Speaker 4 (01:18:56):
We are just one big beach, New Zealand. We're so
skinny and coastal.

Speaker 1 (01:18:58):
But where do you, like, say you're at the And you, like,
go for a little walk. He's technically on the same beach, right?

Speaker 4 (01:19:04):
No, it's like in Auckland, though, when they say this
one's Pui and the one connected to it isn't Pui.

Speaker 1 (01:19:09):
But it is Pui. And we're like, it's still the
same beach. Yeah, still the same beach. They've got different names.

Speaker 10 (01:19:13):
If it's got a different name, it counts as a beach.

Speaker 1 (01:19:16):
So how many have you done?

Speaker 10 (01:19:18):
I'm on number 70.

Speaker 1 (01:19:19):
Oh, my God. And so there's no limit to this.
You just keep going until you get to 100?

Speaker 10 (01:19:23):
Yeah, and then I guess keep going after that.

Speaker 1 (01:19:26):
Right, and then so do you just use all your
time off to go to a different beach in some
part of the country? Yeah.

Speaker 10 (01:19:32):
Yes, but yeah, I've been a bit slack. It's taken
a few years.

Speaker 1 (01:19:35):
How long do they have to be ocean beaches? Because
sometimes lakes have little beach sides, don't they?

Speaker 10 (01:19:39):
I know I was in Lake Hawea and I thought
it was called a beach and I thought, oh, does
that count? But I haven't added it.

Speaker 4 (01:19:46):
New Zealand has thousands of beaches along its vast coastline.

Speaker 1 (01:19:49):
Millions of beaches. Beaches for free. Millions of beaches. Shannon
doesn't know that's a song.

Speaker 10 (01:19:56):
I love that.

Speaker 1 (01:19:57):
Shannon thinks you're making up a song. Beaches come from
a can.

Speaker 4 (01:20:00):
They were put there by a man in a factory down.

Speaker 1 (01:20:05):
Grow up, Shannon. Grow up, Shannon. Okay, so Kim, how's
your friend going? Is she at 100?

Speaker 10 (01:20:11):
Yeah, she reached that probably a couple of years ago
and I started it once. She'd sort of finished and
I got inspired.

Speaker 1 (01:20:17):
I love this. That's a cool thing to do, man.
And what a great way to see our beautiful country.
It's really gorgeous.

Speaker 2 (01:20:22):
It's so lovely.

Speaker 10 (01:20:23):
Exactly. Until you end up at a nudist beach and
you have no idea.

Speaker 4 (01:20:27):
I did that once, but I was the only one
without clothes on. I rechecked it.

Speaker 1 (01:20:31):
Again, Hayley, it wasn't a nudist speech. I kept re-googling.
I said, they said this one was nerd. And I
tell you what, no one else knew it. Kim, thank you. Amy,
what did you do because of a friend?

Speaker 10 (01:20:43):
My good girlfriend had a phenomenal date about 10 years
ago and was like, that's it.

Speaker 1 (01:20:48):
He's the one.

Speaker 2 (01:20:50):
So I decided that she met on Tinder.

Speaker 1 (01:20:52):
So I decided to.

Speaker 2 (01:20:53):
Jump on the bag landing and get back on the app.

Speaker 1 (01:20:56):
Yeah. Fast forward, I'm married. She's still single. Oh, no.
How's that gone down? Yeah.

Speaker 10 (01:21:05):
Oh, look, she was candid at our wedding, giving a
note of honest speech.

Speaker 1 (01:21:11):
Oh, okay. So everyone's happy. That's great. Okay. Well, it
worked out, didn't it?

Speaker 7 (01:21:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:21:16):
For some of us. Kind of.

Speaker 3 (01:21:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:21:18):
Amy, thank you. Nicole, what did you do because of
a friend?

Speaker 3 (01:21:22):
I got my nipples here.

Speaker 1 (01:21:23):
They never go back. They never go back to normal, eh,
when you take the... No, I've seen some munted nips
in my toe. I've seen some mangled nips in my toe.
I've chewed on them too. I'm like, I'll chew that back.
You know sometimes in a western they'll ride a horse
between those big canyons? Yeah. Yeah, like that. Or a crevice,
an ice crevice. Have you still got it, Nicole?

Speaker 2 (01:21:44):
No, I only left it in for a few days.

Speaker 1 (01:21:47):
It was really sore. Yeah. How is that nipple looking?
If you don't mind me asking, please tell me if
I'm overstepping. Hang on, stop. I'll ask. Okay, you ask.
It's totally normal now. The nipple's looking normal now?

Speaker 10 (01:22:01):
Yeah, totally normal.

Speaker 3 (01:22:02):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:22:02):
It's a bit creepy even when you say it, to
be honest.

Speaker 5 (01:22:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:22:05):
Get the tone. Fletch, you want to try asking him?

Speaker 10 (01:22:07):
You try.

Speaker 1 (01:22:07):
Okay, Nicole, how's your nips? No. Is that worse?

Speaker 9 (01:22:11):
No.

Speaker 1 (01:22:11):
I'll try to be the least creepy on the show
for once. Nicole, if you don't mind me asking, medically,
has the nipple recovered?

Speaker 4 (01:22:17):
Yes, it has.

Speaker 3 (01:22:18):
That was better.

Speaker 1 (01:22:19):
Yeah, that was better. Can we see if, no.

Speaker 3 (01:22:22):
No.

Speaker 9 (01:22:23):
No.

Speaker 1 (01:22:23):
And we'll stop there. Thanks, Nicole. We'll stop there. Some
messages in. Two of my, somebody else got their nipples
pierced as well. An American exchange student got their nipple pierced.
She had both of her nipples pierced and I was like,
I'll get it done too. Didn't look quite the same
on my A cups as her double Ds.

Speaker 8 (01:22:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:22:39):
Yeah, you sort of need a juicy... Sort of a couture.
Juicy couture nip. A pair of sweatpants. Yeah, the bigger
the nip. To wear. My friends were keen on doing
the tri-moldy. This is, I assume, a triathlon organized by
or for moldy. That's not a three-way with two moldy.

(01:23:00):
That's what I thought it was. I'll try. Yeah. All
the time. I will. Yeah, absolutely. Double trial. We'll let her, like,
spread our ewi around. Yeah, absolutely. Hit me with your
pepeha before we go. Yeah, get it all in there.
Kupetsi toku mama. Like, let's just go. Yeah, exactly. Kohele aho. Yeah.

(01:23:21):
Here we go.

Speaker 3 (01:23:23):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (01:23:23):
Don't be so hard on yourself. So we did a tri-moldy.
I ended up being the swimmer. I didn't train for it,
just did it to be with my friends. God, it
was hard. Swimming's the part of the triathlon you've got
to train for. Because anyone can sit on a bike.
Anybody can put one leg after the other.

Speaker 4 (01:23:40):
Sorry to our cyclist listeners, anyone can sit on a bike.

Speaker 1 (01:23:45):
No, anyone can go on a bike. It's hard and
you'll be slow, but if you can ride a bike,
you can ride a bike. If you're just like, yeah,
I swam once. Yeah, it's the hardest. Two laps of
Lake Karapero. I got out after one, felt like I
was going to die, and I was just like, I can't,
I'll die. Yeah, you've got to train if you're going
to swim. Yeah. My high school best friend and I
ditched school and got matching peach tattoos on our butts.

(01:24:06):
Only did it because she wanted to, so why not? Wait,
so there was a tattoo artist that had two schoolgirls
walk in.

Speaker 6 (01:24:12):
Mm-hmm.

Speaker 1 (01:24:14):
Chuck a peach on each of their butts. And chucked
a peach on each of their butts.

Speaker 4 (01:24:16):
Unless they do have consent from your parents and you
say yes and they go, okay.

Speaker 1 (01:24:20):
My bestie encouraged me to move to Texas with her
in our 20s to become a nanny. I didn't even
like kids, but I stayed for three years and it
was the best time of my life. Applied to be
a career firefighter because of my mate Wells. We both
got hired. Best job ever. Worst employer ever. Oh, yeah. Well,
they're still protesting, aren't they, for their pay? Yeah, if

(01:24:41):
you see all the trucks going by, this will go
all the way. The writing on them?

Speaker 8 (01:24:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:24:45):
Let's go back to this trying Maori. When is this? Now,
I would say it's been, you know, winter. We're at
the end of it.

Speaker 4 (01:24:54):
We're officially entering spring, which means, you know, the long
winter of kind of letting a lot of the grooming go.

Speaker 1 (01:25:02):
We've got to address it.

Speaker 9 (01:25:04):
Oh, yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:25:04):
You know? You're kind of going to go, whew, man,
I really let it all get a bit wayward.

Speaker 4 (01:25:10):
There's a beauty editor for Bustle, which is like a
website magazine type thing.

Speaker 1 (01:25:15):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (01:25:16):
And she was saying she's noticed over a long winter that–
Her bathroom time, like her like self-care, grooming, like relaxing time,
turned a little bit more into criticism. So instead of going,
I'm going to do this, got more into like picking
at bumps and looking at splittings and kind of overanalyzing
her body under the harsh overhead bathroom light that she

(01:25:38):
had in her bathroom.

Speaker 1 (01:25:39):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (01:25:40):
Now, I was smart enough when I renovated to put
in soft, dimmable... Sconces.

Speaker 1 (01:25:46):
Yes, I can... Okay, I'm dating a troll cave. A
cave troll. Yeah, why? She loves low light. Like, she's... Yeah.
Troll cave's probably a terrible way of describing my girlfriend. No,
I think that's good. Have a good weekend together. Oh, that's...
She likes low light.

Speaker 3 (01:26:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:26:01):
You said troll cave. I said... Women don't let that go.
She's a cave troll. I've said to her, I was like,
it's like living in a cave. Like, sometimes the light's
so low. And she... Everything's... Like low light and I
turn on one light in her house and she's like,
that light never gets turned on.

Speaker 4 (01:26:16):
And it's a bit much and it does, it can
sometimes just make you feel, you know, and it's like
going into a bloody changing room and they've got the
down lights.

Speaker 1 (01:26:22):
Oh, and that fluorescence. Is that my body? Yeah, they
light you right up.

Speaker 4 (01:26:27):
So she has become a harsh, a hard advocate for
something that I advocate for, dark showering.

Speaker 3 (01:26:33):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (01:26:33):
Dark showering. Do you ever do a candlelight shower? Oh,
I've done that. That's nice.

Speaker 4 (01:26:39):
If you don't have dimmable, I mean, because we always
see the idea of like a candle in a bath maybe,
but showering, your daily shower, particularly when maybe you're not
feeling your best.

Speaker 1 (01:26:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:26:47):
You're not feeling all too hot. She won't put the
light on at all. She'll light a couple of candles.
She gets into the shower and she's like, I don't
need to see anything in here. And it becomes more
of a relaxing sensory kind of thing. She's got the warmth.
She's feeling, you know, like the suds and the products
and everything. And she said it's a game changer and

(01:27:08):
it becomes actually what that thing is about, which I
mean getting clean, but like taking care of yourself and
looking after yourself.

Speaker 1 (01:27:14):
So even if there is a mirror, you're not seeing
all the imperfections, little bumps.

Speaker 4 (01:27:18):
I mean, you might need to turn things on to
pluck a monobrow.

Speaker 1 (01:27:21):
Or something like that. I would advocate for if you
are going to dark shower, at least somewhat of a
light source because, you know, slippery surfaces, tripping hazards.

Speaker 3 (01:27:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:27:30):
Producer Shannon sees no reason to even turn on a
light in the shower because... I often pitch black shower
because I wear contact lenses and if I get to
the end of the day and I swap them out
for glasses, I can't wear those.

Speaker 1 (01:27:43):
In the shower.

Speaker 9 (01:27:44):
And light blurry is just harder to see than dark blurry.

Speaker 1 (01:27:48):
Totally, you're not seeing detail anyway.

Speaker 9 (01:27:50):
Yeah, because I'm legally blind, like I'm far, far gone.
So I would just rather be in pitch black glasses
blurriness than trying to decipher things. And so I just
know what my shampoo is versus my conditioner. I'll shave
in pitch black. I've done that a few times.

Speaker 1 (01:28:04):
I was going to say, you missed part of your moustache.

Speaker 4 (01:28:07):
But she says it does everything because you can't see
as much. You just naturally slow down. So she's like,
in the shower, she's also scrubbing hard, ripping this and
getting out. It's like, you take a bit of time
feeling it and get the thing. I'm like, I love this.
And it is, it's like, You don't have to be
in the dark to like yourself, but it's a much

(01:28:28):
nicer experience.

Speaker 1 (01:28:29):
I would recommend it. A lovely candle. Oh, yeah. And
get a nice wafty one. Or a beeswax because it
shoots out that yellow sort of like ambulance. Yeah, delicious.

Speaker 4 (01:28:40):
Put a little portable speaker in there, if you will.

Speaker 1 (01:28:43):
Well, try that this weekend. Some dark showering. Some dark showering.
If you do fall over and break something, it's not
on us. That's you. Oh, we are not liable. If
you slip over and the Head & Shoulders bottle goes
up your bots, again, you go to A & E
and get that taken care of. Again, not our problem.
And no one's going to believe you.

Speaker 3 (01:29:00):
No.

Speaker 1 (01:29:00):
No one will believe you. How did the jar of
Vegemite get in the shower? Oh, another one in the bag.
And it's a Versace bag as well. If you enjoyed that,
give us a rating and a review and be sure
to tell your mates. You don't sound sincere there, boy.
I'm just reading what's written here.
