Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the zitim podcast Network.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
This is Flesh and Haley's Big Pod.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
Thanks to animates making happy happened for pets. Thank you, Susy.
Good morning Fletchvaorne and Hailey minus Hailey today. Yeah, who's
taking a day off to recover from a six hour
tandoo session with the guy that wasn't a scammed headoo artist? Yeah?
Have you heard the story about the guy and she
put in just the wrong email address by one letter
(00:29):
and scammed the actual guy with both letters. Yeah, tattoo
dooo yesterday? Look good too, look good? What is it?
An angel? Just a detailing was amazing. Detailing was amazing.
It was an angel carrying I don't know that was
half asleep when I looked at the photo. And also
maybe some time today for her to return the dress
(00:49):
finally to David Jones. We'll find out if if that's
happened tomorrow. Tomorrow. I'm so excited about this. After nine o'clock,
joining us in stut video. Yeah from the Rookie Melissa O'Neill,
who plays Lucy Chen on The Rookies, joining us here
for Armageddon at the weekend. Yeah again around again. There's
quite an amazing list of guests for armagaedon this week. Yeah,
(01:12):
it's it's going to be a great weekend. It's the
Auckland arm again because they have them all over the
country now. So she's been spotted in Osadahonga the cafe.
Their posts said that, they said they're in the news
yesterday saying that they'd seen her. Yeah, they had a
photo with it. One can only assume white tom ocaves
in a hobbiton visit. Yeah, maybe a're doing a bit
of a loop around. Yeah, the old South Waitato loop
(01:34):
for Shawl. Well, she's an after nine o'clock in studio,
so very excited about that. The top six is on
the way. Yeah, Hungry Hungary Hippos is getting a little
indie horror film made. Okay, One Man Hop was a
scarious shit. It's going to be based in Columbia, did
you Yeah, Pablo Hiescab because I read the last week
they're finally starting to euthanize all of them, although that's
(01:55):
impossible because there's so many of them now, and I'd
have mentioned a bit bit of a tank they euthanizing.
That sounds something like that sounds soft and like calming
and stuff. They'll just be shooting the assume rifles. Huge. Yeah,
whenever you see them, you just like. And they kill
more people, right and the most than any other animal.
(02:17):
But there was one year where they killed more than
any other world animal combined, more than sharks. Super territorial.
They sit below the water and then dumb dumbs. I
think they can get close to them, Yeah, but people
know that they can't. So I've got the top six
board games. There could also be horror films next on
the show though. Everything's going up in price, and this,
(02:38):
I mean it was a sitter. I didn't even think
about it, but I'll tell you next what's going up?
Speaker 2 (02:42):
Plays it in Flesh Worn and Haley.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Well the Conflict and Iran. This cold is not going anywhere,
by the way. It just like it's making itself permanently
at home the war and I ran the Conflict and
I ran the straight of Homers over it as trade. Hey,
the conflict. Everything's going to go up in price. I
was listening to something at the weekend where one of
(03:07):
New Zealand's only plastic pipe manufacturers you buy like the
beads the pipes get made here are just like, oh,
our price. By the way, they buy like Mardi Gras
beads and they melt they down. Yeah, they make the
pipes interesting. Yeah, I was fasted. I haven't seen that
would happen here. I didn't know it was a product
of petroleum. Yeah, everything is. Yeah, it turns out everything is.
(03:27):
And so they were like straight up struggling to get supply.
And the supplies. By the way, price went up over
night thirty percent, and we're gonna have to pass that
on to somebody at something. I heard this as well,
like a few weeks back, the plastics pipe people, the
plumbers were saying, yeah, pipes are going up. So what
ourse is made of plastics and petroleum? Everything including have
you been into like Kmark? Yeah, everything including Latex okay,
(03:52):
and uh synthetic rubber, Naturl aluminum foils because they've got
the thing on the inside the tires as well. Hil
my stock up on my plastic kitchen bags and rubbish bags.
Do you know. I bought this big box from Costco.
It was like rubbish bags and it said like I
think it said like one hundred and fifty. I was like, man,
(04:12):
that seeps. I've greated. I've got ten rolls of one
hundred and fifty like, I don't think I'll ever need
to buy a bin liner ever again. Okay, great, and
it's compopostable. I'm probably gonna get to the second role
and it will have composit itself. Yeah, I don't like
the compossible bags rubbish brake. So those things I named
synthetic rubber, nitral packaging, illuminum, foiled lining, silicon oil are
(04:33):
all essential parts of condoms. Oh, okay, and the world,
so we're gonna not have condoms. The world's largest supplier
of condoms is in Malaysia as carracks. They supply the
likes of you know, all the big brands, Durreks and stuff.
They make them more. The price is going to go
at thirty percent. Oh and apparently global demand four condoms
(04:55):
is up thirty percent, So you've got a shortage of
the products used to make them at an increase of price,
and a higher demand skyrocketing. They're already expensive a for
what do you think they are? For what they are,
they're expensive, yeah, but I'll tell you what's more expensive,
he says as he points to his children in the
corner of the studio. But I love you. Yeah, but
(05:19):
expensive but expense God that I love, but expensive, especially
if someone who left their hockey gear and the shadow
of school holidays has had it stolen. Yeah, you're write
a packet of tim cheaper than a hockey stick. Another mouthguard,
shun guards, shoes uniform. Yeah, it dot matter how much
(05:40):
the condoms cost, it's gonna be cheaper. But won't give
you that much.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
You plays it ends flesh one and Haley.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
A job ad has gone viral out of the UK
and man, some people have too much money. Yeah, this
is a family that live in one of those biggest
states I see. Yeah, and that always rises me that
those people go bankrupt, you know that massive estates. But
then they've got to upkeep them, and then if you
die and leave it to someone, they've got to pay
(06:09):
like an estate tax or something on them. And half
of the time they sell them to like a new
millionaire because they can't keep it. Are you just literally
saying the plot of the Gentleman, that's what happened, That's
that's what happens. What happened the family is like, Okay,
I watched those I watched those shows where they go
and meet some old Todger who lives in them as well,
like those I love those British shows where they're like,
we're to go, We're to go with stations and draw
(06:31):
mark B and B and then they don't have on
it and I love it. I love it. Well, A
sorry family has one of these estates and they are
offering the job aprican a private cottage. Okay, you live
rent free in that cottage on the estate. That's not
you get paid sixty thousand pounds, so what about one
hundred and twenty odd thousand New Zealand dollars just cashing. Yeah,
(06:53):
and all you have to do is look after their dog.
Kind of dog is it? It doesn't say what kind
of dog it is. That's your deal breaker. If it's
a if it's a cute dog, if it's a bigger dog,
because a state dog. I'm imagining you've you know, you're
labrador sized. Yeah, maybe it's a stupid little I'm not
looking for one hundred and twenty thousand dollars a year
(07:15):
for free rent. I would one. Yeah, I'd hate it
all the time. It's shaken the whole time. Stop. Yeah,
some of the mirror, but yeah, I don't I don't know,
but if it's one of those like Spaniels, the will
retriever dogs, I could do that. Especially on a state
you can throw the ball at lots. Shoot dark, yeah,
(07:36):
shoot exactly, go get the dark yeah yeah. Well, so
the job title is living dog companion and a state assistant.
So I think you have to assist as well the
family when they're there. You work Sunday to Thursday nine
am till six, but you have to manage the dog's
routines as well as feeding and grooming. You have to
monitor the dog's health and maintain the pet daily diary. Right, like, oh,
(08:01):
I'm too old to look after their dog. I think
they're just busy. They just work a lot. I think, oh,
you know, these rich people there, why they get a dog.
Then at time there are time intensive pit because probably
because someone one of them was like we need to
do on the one and the other one is that
we don't have time for you. Well, I will get
a dog. But now they're just like so rich, they're
like just paying someone to live in the cottage. How
(08:21):
far is the cottage in the house, So do you
have to run the dog back to the main house
from the cottage when they get home, I'd say, so, yeah,
I reckon they get home and they'll be like, oh,
we're going to break it back over tomorrow. Just the
dog can stay with you can't be bothered. Yeah, yeah.
Does it have a picture of the cottage and stuff
as it? It doesn't, But they do say that they've
received thousands of applications and that they've no longer because
it's gone viral. Yeah, they've shut the applications and now
(08:44):
they're just kind of going through thousands of people that
want to live rent free and look after a stupid dog.
It's a dream. It's a dream job. It's a dream job.
Then in podcast Network from your local community Facebook page.
This is the Hungry is the horror movie. After becoming
(09:04):
lost in the Louisiana swamp lands, a group of holidaymakers
must fight for their lives against the rampaging hippo on
the loose at his based on Hungry Hungry hippos. Let's
see who's in it? Do they roll balls down the
hill to get the hippos to eat them and run away? Look,
I hope so how good would that be if at
(09:26):
the climax of the film they're running and they come
across a bunch of like soccer balls and they start
rolling them down the hill and the hippos like, yeah,
when you think about it, knives out as basically cluded. Yeah,
yeah yeah. And battleships. Remember Battle that year Rihanna was
in battleships and then they just did a yewie in
the battleship dropped the Ywi. They dropped the anchor in
(09:47):
the World War two fighter ship that hadn't been used
but there was decommissioned miraculously. I was a science terrible movie. Yeah,
I liked it some times. Taylor Kitch was Taylor Kitchen.
Yeah he was robbed. He should have been a bigger
deal in Hollywood. I reckon, Yeah, he should have been.
He should have been a bigger deal. Friday Night Lights.
(10:08):
Hot guy, good guy. So the given that Hungry the
Bay of the game, that movie based on Hungry Hungry
Hippos comes out this year with the top six other
board games, it could be horror movies. Okay, a number
six on the list Settlers of Qatar. It just looks
ridiculously time and complicated. I've played it once and I
(10:29):
lost really badly, So that's why it's a horror film.
I was by my daughter who was thirteen at the time,
quite convincingly goodness, and my other daughter was on her
team tour. Right. Okay, I've been told that my children
are in studio this morning because they're massive Rockie fans
that they've come in to meet Milissa O'Neil. I thought
they wanted to see how we work, and yeah, we
do every day. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Is it not sad
their uncle fletchy, Yeah, it's not me unbelievable. Rude, eh rude.
(10:53):
Number five on the list of the top six board
games that could be horror movies. Connect four. How would
that be? You're just going to stop the aliens because
of course it's aliens connecting four things, right by interrupting
their connections with your own connections, all the while trying
to connect four of your own things. Yes, to outspell
the aliens without them seeing it coming. Yeah, and if
(11:13):
it ends at a stale, mate, you just look out
the bottom button, do you know? I sort of three
D printed Connect four that I don't know, still don't
know how it worked, but the sky was like I've
three D printed this. When you opened the bottom thing,
you know how it would all just spell out and
go on the floor. These balls sorted themselves into each side.
The purple always went to one side, the green always
went to the other. Amazing, It was amazing. I don't
(11:34):
know how it worked, but I sometimes don't like to
ask questions because I like magic. Yeah. Number four on
the list of the top six board games are gonna
be horror movies Jinger, Oh yeah, it's basically you're deconstructing
a skyrise tower. Yeah, but haven't cleared any of the
neighborhood around it, right, so you've got to get all
the bits out without the things without year it falls. Well,
(11:55):
you're responsible for the death of hundreds. They might have
to do that with that sky scraper and Aokland that's
finished one day if they can't sell it. You know,
I've always said, what the Augland Skyline is missing is
one of those ghost buildings. Yeah, half finished plastic flapping
in the wind. Yeah, every now and then a big
glass pane falls out of it. Yeah. Oh that's what
(12:15):
we need. Yeah. Number three on the list of the
top six board games that would make horror movies. Twenty questions. Oh, okay,
it's like and you've got a yeah, and if you get
it right, you don't get out of the house. Yeah,
and you could fall into a pit of syringers. Yeah,
like on swore if you answer the question wrong. Those
movies were horrible. Yeah. I think I tapped out after
the third one, which is the only movie I've ever
(12:35):
watched that made me violent, like physically. Yeah, they're full
on was too much. Number two on the list of
the top six board games that can be horror movies.
A Monopoly Oh yeah, yeah, that's just kind of monopoly.
Living life at the moment, well, speaking of which is
number one on the list of the top six board
games that can be horror movies. The Game of Life
twenty twenty six. Okay, yeah, just living, just trying to man.
(12:57):
Even the one where you're earning like heaps of money
and the high paying job, you're still not getting far.
Still in the game in the ground like everybody else. Yeah,
it's a bit depressed. Actually we're quite depressed. A horror
mores movie. It is a horror, a horror that is today's.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
Subsex needwork plays z ms flesh Forn and Haley gin Z.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
They get a better stack, they get it, they get it.
They were born at such an interesting time, turn of
the millennium sort of thing. Just a little bit after
talking your Twin Towers situation, you nine to eleven into
an ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Surprise, surprise, not solved.
You know, they went through a global financial crisis. Yeah,
(13:43):
and then they were probably finally like, oh, it's coming right,
and then you know there's this Donald Trumps situation in
twenty sixteen, and then twenty twenty you got COVID. They've
experienced a lot, a lot has happened. So I think
it's a really interesting generation to study. And that's why
we get so much gen Z stuff. Yeah, so much
(14:04):
information about gen Z. Well, the boomers are just quietly
like milk and that no capital gains attacks on the
property they bought for fourteen thousand dollars and nineteen seventy
gen X, so just keeping their head down. Don't look
at us, they're saying, don't look at us. There's been
a study into gen Z and it's social anxiety. There's
two thousand gen zs surveyed, and one in four or a
(14:25):
quarter of them say social anxiety stops them from offering
a handshake to strangers. Oh, this is Carwen when they
meet Carwen.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
I know we suck?
Speaker 1 (14:35):
Is it social anxiety? You don't like Bug, you didn't
like Gems and the Unknown?
Speaker 3 (14:39):
Yeah, I don't like the germ aspect.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
But also like I don't know, I think I grew
up as quite a sweety teenager and so like if
I've got sweaty hands or I've got quite cold hands,
are you saying it might be like, oh, I'm claiming
I'm sweeten right now?
Speaker 1 (14:51):
Do you know there's nothing was when you're at a
function or whatever or somewhere and someone goes to the
bathroom and then you have to handsha make them and
you know they've just been in the bathroom, You're like
to wash your hands, Yeah, especially might be weird. Or
if your hand's perfectly dry, you're like they even washed
their hands, but you can tell if it's been washed.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
Yeah, But that's what I mean.
Speaker 4 (15:10):
Like I think also like I fear that some men
don't wash their hands after just pain.
Speaker 1 (15:15):
No, they don't, they don't. I And sometimes here at work,
you're going to the toilet and somebody who already be
in there and then you just see them just out
and you're just like, dude, come on give it a rinse.
These paper towels too, so that you can't use that
excuse of it. I don't like the hand dryer, Yeah,
these paper towels, so I.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
Don't want to smash my hand together with yours.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
No, I totally get it. I totally get it. So
one in four one four gen z say it's social anxiety.
A third struggle to make eye contact or in conversations. Yep.
I'm pretty bad with that though too, seventy five percent.
But they struggle with social interactions on a whole. So generally,
this is why you don't like you. Guys are different
because you have to call people for work, But this
(15:53):
is why they don't like calling people.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
I'm also quite good with eye contact.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
I kind of use it as a whiping at times,
like I'm really good at being like, oh, we're going
to talk straight into my eyes.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
And death stick.
Speaker 5 (16:05):
Carlin and I are great due in a meeting because
she has a backbone and stands up for the both
of us and I look at the ground and cry.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
And we're just this great jewels, great team. Yeah. Nine
said they were more comfortable communicating with people online than
in person. Yeah. Nearly two thirds will go out of
the way to avoid avoid small talk, and I just hands.
I've had some terrible handshakes lately. I've had some shy
like a handshake, yeah, yeah, some brutal handshakes stood on
(16:37):
all year, right, eg. Fisherman's hands rough rough hands.
Speaker 4 (16:42):
Actually feedback from my mum. She's just message and said, no,
it's actually from her. She hates shaking people's hands.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
It's not just a gen z it's a germ thing,
a genetic germ thing. Do you mean during the pandemic.
They're like, hugs will never be back, handshakes will never
be back. Traveling on an aircraft without a mask will
be back. People are just more now first post coast,
post COVID, Yeah, or just one.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
Of these, a little shimming of a hand like hey girl, yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
What like that? Shimming hand? Dump playing noodles? Would you
hear that? Somewhere? And then away is dumpling noodles down
for dumpling noodles, both the hands actual dumbling. Ye's great
because it makes you think of dumplings, and who doesn't
(17:27):
love dumpling? They always make you so happy, don't they.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
The fletchhorn and Haley Baby Big.
Speaker 6 (17:32):
Pod hailey, silly little pool. It is so silly, silly, silly,
that silly little pool, silly little silly.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
So a little pole of that is how often you
will clean your other net chuck it in the wash.
I assume the like I haven't oven mate, but it's
at the bottom of the bottom drawer, and I just
end up using a folded over tee tae the other
teatael as well. Yeah, and then occasionally I'll burn a
finger and yeah that at must get that oven mate, Yeah, yeah,
(18:13):
never do that, never do never do too lazy. I
was getting something else in the kitchen and I saw
the other mets. I was like, I don't have an
other met, so I bought two of them. Oh yeah, stupid.
It's so hard to get the other one. That's why
you need the ones, the towel ones that you just
put your hands in oven. Yeah, that's my mum had those.
I've got two thack oven mats. You get the first
(18:34):
it on and then you've got to put your hand
and then use your mouth to get the sick and
then get them equally. Is this made me think I
bought oven mats when I moved into my apartment nearly
eleven years ago, and I haven't cleaned them once. This
was quite a confronting question. I think you just throw
them out here. Yeah, kitchens, how often do you clean? Now?
Will wash your oven? Mate? Is it weekly, monthly, yearly,
slash couldn't tell you or never? I just throw them
(18:55):
out when they get a bit mank yep. Twenty six
percent of people say they throw them ot when they
get it. Yeah. Fifty five percent said yearly. I couldn't
tell you. Yeah, I got silicon ones so it's like
half material and then the ends of silicuy. That's nice,
so they don't get that dirty. Yeah, silicon wipes clean. Yeah.
The monthly was at fifteen percent and weekly was at
five percent. Weak people. Week I mean you're using them
(19:18):
a lot. If you use because it's the other thing.
I don't use my oven a lot. If you're using
it a lot, you would maybe clean them more. Yeah,
perhaps think about it more. I don't know. Sou said,
when it looks bad, or wash it, and when it's
really bad, it's time for a new one. But always
wait for a brisco sale. Oh yeah, and it's disappointing
when you go to Briscoes. But you haven't looked up
if the thing you wants on sailing, you get there
and everything and still but what you want, and you're
(19:40):
just like, how dare you yea all weekst Briscos enough
Manchester Brian said, are you supposed to wash those? And
he bras a good point. They're always touching things very
very hot, they would kill the bacteria. Yes, yeah, great point.
Its crossed fingers grossed as like saying the bathroom does
need cleaning because all you do in there is clean yourself,
(20:02):
whereas themis place in the there's f and household the
worst place to clean. Shy says, we're in food or
grease spells on it. I'll chuck it in the wash, Maddie,
I don't use the mine a lot, to be honest.
It ends up just being the tea tail folded over. Yeah,
and then they get thrown in the wash every couple
of days, man, I go through teataels. You go to
a ttail wash every couple of days, and I'm going
(20:23):
to follow them. Oh yeah, oh they go they too often. Yeah.
Do you do that thing where you use the teatawil
to wipe the bench? Yeah? Yeah, same, I'll get a
t tail out, and i'mber like, that's just to keep
that one clean, And then I'll find myself wiping my
hands around, like, well, that can't be used to clean
the dish again. I gotta stillicon midst his laury. Absolute
game changer. Yeah, that's what I've got, it is, Sharon says,
(20:46):
to be honest, it's probably just want to realize how
manky it is. Yeah, which is probably every month or
two I'll look at it and like, oh, you're looking
a little worse aware. Ashley never washed it, never even
thought about washing it, but also haven't considered throwing it out.
Sort of a must be an all right in that
twilight zone, Yeah, twilight zone of oven mits. Kate says,
I couldn't tell you when I last washed mine, but
(21:07):
I always frown upon a dirty ovenment when I'm in
somebody else's house. That is what we call hypocrisy. Tanya,
I feel like I've wash it now. It may fall apart.
That baby is so old it barely stops the hot
trays from building your hands anymore. But I'm way too
cheaped by a new one. You need to get in
an Abresco's sale, or it came out or a warehouse.
I love to sea new ovenment. I'd get out of
(21:29):
my own I'd get it out of my own pocket.
Why don't you then, if Tania, have you messaged me?
I saw yet a new of them, and I can't
stand the thought of you burning it. I got mine
from the warehouse. Oh yeah, okay, you're not too bad.
I have five bucks, I think of the wear. Yeah,
or you can get some poshuins, luckily said to some
list dollars. Tanya's not getting some lark CRUSI. It's she
can get a sixteen dollar briscos. She's getting a five
(21:51):
dollar warehouse. She's going to be happy with it. It's
not an oven mate, it's a tea towel and it
gets washed weakly. Yeah. So for sealing little pole today
we asked you, how often do you wash your seven
dollars fifty for a silicone oven glove? So I had
one of those and it went. It's like a mitten,
right if you imagine at it went between the thumb
(22:12):
and the index finger. It wore out because of the
move it's not made for. It wore out, and then
a hot tray went straight through sizzled the whip okay,
well maybe just those as forever. Yeah, be careful, be
very kick you as they say always, that's what they say.
It's daylight savings. Check your fire alarms and check your mit. Yeah,
selling little pole, helton your wash or clean your oven.
(22:34):
The most popular response at fifty five percent is yearly
slash ye and I couldn't tell.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
You does that end? Podcast network?
Speaker 4 (22:41):
So?
Speaker 1 (22:42):
I've always wondered what the origins of the T bar
necklace is. It's the it's the necklace like a cross
without the cross. It's the cross without the vertical bar. Yeah,
it's just the crossbar of the cross, no vertical bar.
I feel like I haven't seen them for a while.
T bar. Yeah. So they're very well established piece of
(23:04):
jewelry and their back because apparently the Devil wears prior
of too. Annie Hathaway's characters wearing one is that any
she will always be to me? Yeah? Yeah, going with.
Speaker 3 (23:14):
It about right for any I don't know the listeners.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
May not know this, but producer Carwhen has an extensive
background working in a jewelry store. She's full of jewelry facts.
Tell them that fact which fact that you said before
about the that someone gets first look at.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
Them, I think that's industry.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
Okay, that was an industry. See, this is the thing.
She's got industry set like a little.
Speaker 4 (23:40):
Gym course and everything. No, but these when I was
working there a few years ago, during like school holidays
and stuff, these were massive, and so much so that
I bought one because you've got to wear what you
want to sell vibes. But te bars were everywhere. And
now I'm not seeing them, Like the girlies aren't wearing them?
Are they not called gen z not like them?
Speaker 1 (24:00):
For the gen zs to like them, they've got to
be from the two thousands and really old. They'll be
back though, Yeah, I.
Speaker 4 (24:07):
Reckon they're coming back, and like they I always saw
them as quite like an elevated, like more mature nic.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
Cliff understated, right. It wasn't big and glittery. It was
simple and yeah, but the bar is weird. It is weird,
So I was like, what, what how did it come about?
So apparently it's from men's pocket watches and the day
where men's men wore pocket watches that had the pocket
and their top pocket on one side of their gys
and then the chain that went to the other side
(24:33):
would go through and hook through a buttonhole. Now, the
tea bar that now hangs on the neck was the
part that went through the buttonhole, and the other end
of a cumplink goes through and direct and stops connected
to the pocket watch. The husband got a new one,
or say the husband died or something happened and it
was unlady like to carry a big watch that wear
(24:54):
the thing around their neck with the bit that went
through the buttonhole hanging down. And that's how the tea
our necklace was born.
Speaker 7 (25:01):
That's literally going to make me cry.
Speaker 3 (25:03):
It's so beautiful.
Speaker 7 (25:04):
It's like a dog tag, but.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
Like wearing okay, like wearing your old yea dead husband's
dom tag. This is beautiful.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
Let's all do this.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
So it's been in the Devil is Proud of two
and so that's why that's comparently, Okay, there's going to
be a comeback. And I've just seen one here for eighteen,
eight hundred and eighty eight dollars. What a steal, What
a steal? Nine carrot gold and solid and it's fifty
centimeters long.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
Yeah, that's what will get you. If it's solid gold,
it's gonna it's going to be spinning.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
Right about how much would you get them from?
Speaker 4 (25:39):
Like, you know, silver is definitely a lot cheaper yeap,
so go for silver grated Yeah.
Speaker 3 (25:46):
Yeah, well gold plated vermeilli.
Speaker 1 (25:50):
Those are the noodles home Yeah, wonders the Divas product.
When does that come out though, because like I've seen
the re carpets and stuff, and there was there was
a thing there was an article about the cameos of
celebrity cameos cut from a Sydney Sweeney didn't make the cut, No,
she did. That's the first movie in years she's been
(26:12):
part of it. As you just shut up in.
Speaker 4 (26:14):
They're saying that Anna Wintour might not have actually made
the cut either, which is crazy.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
She is that's based on right, Yeah, so she's playing.
Speaker 4 (26:23):
And she was being all coy like you might see
me in it, you might not. She was in like
a promotional trailer for it. But they're confirming that apparently,
I guess people that went to the premiere are confirming
that she's not in it.
Speaker 1 (26:34):
Right well, April thirty, so it'll be a week today
that it's out in New Zealand cinemas. The Deevil Wears
part of two Justin throws in it, Lucy Los in it,
bj Novak from however sar she is in it? Is
it getting good reviews from the previous or have they
not come out yet? Lady Gagar, isn't it?
Speaker 3 (26:54):
You know you wrote the songs songs that are in it?
Speaker 1 (26:57):
Oh? Okay, have you got a of you for the Diviultion?
No nothing on rodin Tomatoes yet or any star. So
I think it must be all embargoed until next Thursday. Yeah,
a week to wait play. Yesterday I was driving in
the inner city Auckland, CBD, and there was a tiny
(27:19):
little silver car, yeah, in the middle of two lanes,
driving really slowly and all over that kind of weaving,
and I was like, is there has someone left work
drunk at like three o'clock and they're just they're too
drunk to be driving. And I was about to be
like on the horn because the lights were about to
go orange and then read and I was like, you know,
(27:41):
always in a rush to go nowhere? Yeah, so stress,
so stress and so busy. So I'm about to get
on the horn when I see a little yellow on
the front windscreen and I'm like, so you're not passing
them at the stage, You're just going to see through
the car is a yellow square. At this they're coming
up to three lanes, either one turning left and the
(28:04):
other two turning right. I'm like, Becker lane, dude, because
I need I need to get in this lane and
I want to get the line. And this is the
central business DISTI of Auckland and they're driving about like
I want to say, twenty five thirty k's yeah, Like
what's going on? Actually, maybe that's the speed limit there.
I think it might be. Actually, now that forty tops,
I'll be driving a lot fifty and it'll be like thirty.
(28:27):
I'll be like, when did that happen? Anyway, I spot
a bit of yellow and I'm like just I'm just
about to get on the horn, and I'm like, oh wait,
this could be a lunar driver. And as I get
closer right up behind them, they kind of turn off
into the left lane and I see the big yellow
l plate and the top left of the front wind screen.
Nothing on the back of the window bowl. I googled it.
(28:49):
You've got to have a larner's displayed on the front
and the back. Okay, you've you've got to or maybe
it's on one of those little sticky things. They didn't
like it or they and it fell down onto the window.
But I was still drivel Auckland because they weren't. It
didn't they didn't feel up to the standard, up to
scratch of driving in a CBD. In the CBD, you
(29:10):
meant to go to a car park or on the motorway.
And they took a wrong turn and their dad was
yelling at them. Now and then I stuck on the
CBD and they're freaking out, and dad's freaking out and
everyone's freaking out. Well, they were well in the city.
They weren't near any motorways at that stage. But I
was just like, Okay, you've bitten off more than you can.
You just go out into the suburbs where it's chill
(29:30):
for a bit before you go. This should be like
your tenth drive or something. This isn't alert. I don't
think i'd go to the CBD is a learner. It
used to be a lot worse in the CBD, I
reckon there's worst places like Mauls to me are the
worst place or to drive, even as a fully grown
adult with you full absolutely because everything's so narrow and
(29:52):
there's cars flying around the parks around it's wild, although
it's just that sometimes the ramps and the curves are
really skinny too. Yeah. Absolutely, it'd be a horrible place
to learn to drive. But I thought on the back
of this, because I don't know, they shouldn't have been
in the city and they were obviously not coping well
with it, and we've all been there, and you know
that's why I didn't too. I would never do to
(30:14):
learn a driver, or you know, I would your road
rage at them? Really, could we take some calls? Now?
I went hundred dollars at him? Text nine six nine six?
How bad was your learning to drive experience? Did you
freak out? I also want to hear from people who
were learning to drive in the person teaching it was
the week, like would that's the other thing? Yeah, maybe
(30:36):
it was dad, maybe it was mum. It's always one
of the parents hands it off to the other parent. Yeah,
my granddad taught us to drive, Like the basics. Mum
was shocking. Yeah, because you pick up everything. It's she'd like,
go round a corner sheet of grabbing everything. Well, the
thing if you learn with a proper driving instructor, they
have a pedal, they have a brake pedal. They have,
but mum and dad don't have the brake pedal. They've
(30:57):
maybe got the handbrake and they'll yell at you. Yeah,
but that's all they've got. So I w eight hundred
dons at him nine six nine six? Did you confuse
the brake pedal for the accelerator? Somebody currently teaching their
sixteen year old to drive and he confused the break
with the accelerator in my life flash before now, yeah,
oh that's scary because some people with it's all automatics
(31:18):
now the left league, you're not doing anything, are you alone?
Put that away? But some people double peddle. Who's double piddle?
Don't double pedal, don't double piddle, don't double pedal. I wait,
hundred dolls and the nine six nine six? How bad
was it when you learned to drive? We're talking about
your terrible learning to drive experiences when you've got the
OL plates up. I saw someone in the Auckland CBD
(31:40):
yesterday that should have just been I don't know, in
a car park somewhere on a Sunday with no traffic. Yeah,
they must have felt like it was their first day
all over the place. Somebody said they might just be shit.
That's probab where they're still in our plates on, they
might just be shit. They're just yeah okay, but don't
well get into the I just wanted to share this
as a Q story from Marie. When my little Scottish
(32:00):
granny had to go and rested her driver's test to
make sure she was still fit to drive and get
a license. They asked her what she would do if
she saw a diamond on the road. She said she'd
put she'd indicate, she'd pull over and she'd pick it up.
I like, and then trying to find the owner. Maybe
you take it to the police and hold on to it.
And then three month laters, as fine as it's yours character?
(32:21):
And how bad was your learning to drive? Oh?
Speaker 8 (32:24):
Pretty bad?
Speaker 3 (32:27):
I was.
Speaker 8 (32:28):
This was like gone out like a few times with
my mum and I said, like I was pretty good driver, okay,
But both of my parents actually were like the people
that would like hold on to like the handle, you know,
like by the window, like while I.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
Was driving that white knuckled grip and you just saw
the veins in their forearm and you're like that's not helping.
I mean, if anything it should have been on the handbreak,
to be honest.
Speaker 8 (32:50):
Yeah, and just made everything real tense all the time. Yeah,
like out in the back roads and like I went
to like turn a corner and I don't think I
took the corner, but apparently my mom like was freaking
out and she was acting like the car was like
going to tip over and started like yelling and screaming,
and I was like, what the hell? And then she
(33:11):
told me to pull over. She's screaming at me to
pull over, and I was stressing out. So I pulled over,
but I drove into like a.
Speaker 9 (33:18):
Smashed glass bottle on the side.
Speaker 8 (33:21):
Of the road, and so I'm pretty I'm pretty sure
the tire actually got damaged as well. And then for
the first time of my life, like my mom's like cute,
little catholic, you know, real good, And for the first
time in my life I heard her say the word.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
Oh wow, wow, you stress throughout that, Catherine, Yeah, yeah, okay,
but obviously you're fine now, right you have you had
a crash since.
Speaker 2 (33:46):
No, I don't know. I've been good.
Speaker 8 (33:49):
I'm a great driver, but she's even.
Speaker 1 (33:55):
Yeah, even to.
Speaker 8 (33:57):
This stay though, as a grown adult with two children,
when she's in the car with me, she still sometimes
holds off to the handle.
Speaker 1 (34:06):
Yeah that's funny, okay, Cantherine, Thank you, Nicole. How bad
was learning to drive? For you?
Speaker 9 (34:13):
I grew up in a small town of o and
New plumbout so lovely. Yep, not a lot of traffic anywhere.
So when I was learning to drive, my dad replaced
the steering wheel in my car for a small one.
And the first time I went to drive, everyone was
beeping at me and I was absolutely panicking, couldn't figure
out what I was doing wrong, Like it's just so awkward.
(34:37):
And then I realized that every time I turned a corner,
my horn was going off wires.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
So a momo steering wheel on? Was he putting a
lady's wheel on it? A small petite wheel? Why did
why do they need to.
Speaker 9 (34:53):
Do that quite tall leg since under the original Toyota Corolla.
Speaker 1 (35:00):
Oh you're driving like a fat bambina or something when
you see your legs.
Speaker 9 (35:04):
Yeah, okay, Corolla, it's just a little Corolla hatchback. But
I had a really big steering wheel on it all
one on. But then to get home I had to
take corners really wide, so that I wasn't turning the
steering wheel too hard.
Speaker 1 (35:19):
Oh dad, that's so funny. Nicole, thank you, Arielle, good morning.
How bad was the learning to drive? So?
Speaker 10 (35:28):
I was taking my son for a drive and for
the first time, and I ended up he put his
foot on the accelerator and kind of drifted around the roundabouts.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
Kind of like that was sick.
Speaker 8 (35:47):
I literally was like, oh my god, what are you doing?
Speaker 10 (35:52):
But his father's like does that stuff?
Speaker 9 (35:55):
So I think he got it from right.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
Get a bit of d one on her. This sounds
like a fast and the furious, like the son of
Vin Dieselah kind of comes back in the franchise for
the fourteenth movie, Are You Married to Don Turrito? Sounds
like she wants to be there. You would absolutely shoot yourself.
Oh yeah, Ariel, thank you. My dad was too tight
asked to buy those learner's plates even though there were
two dollars at the two dollars four ones, and stuck
(36:22):
them in. No, that's embarrassing. They're literally at two dollar shops. Yeah,
that's embarrassing. Dad. My dad took me for a driving
and got passed by a tractor and he said to me,
how do you think this is going, and I said,
I think I might be going a bit slow. Learned
to drive in a symmetry. It was great. No one
complained there and I was backing up. At one stage,
(36:43):
I thought I had a headstone, but I just had
the curb. So that's good. You know I had a headstone.
That's a haunting. You get yourself a haunting right there. Driving,
they said with Dad on a Sunday morning, the breaks
didn't work for some reason. Dad screaming to stop. I said,
I couldn't stop. We went through the Green Laye intersection
on a red light. Oh, that's a busy intersection. It's
a busy intersection. A few people saying. Those different handles
(37:05):
around the car they called the church handles, because whenever
you grab them, you're also saying something you might hear
someone at church say, like Jesus Christ, yes, oh God,
you know, praying for their lives, et cetera. So let's
call them the church bars from here on out. Lovely.
I went to drive a manual whilst working at a
car rental company basically the customers with my teacher my
stepdad at the time as a traffic person for the
(37:26):
airports and witnessed me bunny hopping around an intersection and
the customers like, no, it's just slow off the slow
off the clutch of the plutch driven automatic. I have
driven it. My sister took me in her old Corona
on a West Coast road, Old West Coast Road in
christ Church to get up to speed. I was freaking out.
It was going too fast. She tells me to turn
(37:46):
into the next side road it's a shingle road, but
she also didn't tell me I need to slow down
to turn. Oh god, okay, So the front wheels hit
the gravel. I slammed on the brake, so we slid sideways,
stopped on somebody's country boom just away from the fence,
and then to get out, she said, flaw it. So
then there was these big cracks up the grass. Okay, great, Yeah,
somebody works in insurance. I don't read the insurance one
(38:08):
out day. Percent of their vehicle claims are people getting
either putting it into drive when they think they're putting
into reverse or vice versa, or confusing they're accelerated with
their break and retirement. Village is are the most popular
place claims of that nature. Do you do that thing
where you'll reverse out and then something will take your attention,
like a text or something, and I know you shouldn't
(38:29):
be looking at your phone and driver and or you're
talking to someone, and then you forget that you haven't
put it into drive yet, and then you just do
a little tap still more reversers. Yeah, someone sitting it
up in a lake when I was learning to drive.
I don't know how how deep right did the car
get out? I guess. And you're here to tell the story.
(38:50):
So cars a boat now with a good story? Yeah?
Bad boat, bad boat. Yeah, that's a full writer. That's
a writer. My mum taught me to drive, and I
drove perfectly around the neighborhood. And then when I got home,
I pulled into the driveway and she yelled stopped because
I was going a bit quick, and I planted my
foot and flew up in the air and through the house,
ended up in the kitchen. No, because they mixed up
(39:13):
the scelerator in the break and stop at them. I guess.
At least mum got a new kitchen. She's always wanted.
I'm always wanted a new kitchen, isn't she.
Speaker 2 (39:23):
The podcast Needwork plays z NS flesh one and Haley's.
Speaker 1 (39:30):
Cute little Golden Retrievers. It's kind of there there they
were the post a child of the guide dog. Yeah,
the Golden Retriever. Yeah, well, there may be a thing
of the past because robot guide dogs what are being
trialed in China? You know, there's four hundred actual guide
dogs available in China and they've got a population that
of a blind population of nearly twenty million. What there
(39:54):
is four times as many blind Chinese people as there
are New Zealanders and there's only how many going thro
four hundred? The right a severe shortagee. So you just
think in China that is like, oh, you're on your own, mate,
it's kind of China. Yeah. Yeah. So they're trailing some
(40:14):
four legged robot guide dogs that look visually like a
Boston Dynamic. Yeah robot. Okay, the four wheel the four
leagued version. Is that just another ip they've ripped off?
What yeah? Yeah, ignore. Yeah. So it can respond to
voice commands, navigate steers, slopes and uneven surfaces. It's got
cameras and sensors. Oh okay, so it can do more
(40:35):
than you stand. This could be the future of the
airport dogs. As well the beagles, Like, do you think
they will become a time when AI can and senses
but the dog sense of smell is inconceivable. No, but
what if the technology becomes so good they can do
the smell but also have X ray And so you
literally walk through the airport and the dogs rough right
(40:59):
or on the team between a real dog and a
robot dog, and so the real dog goes and then
the robot dog goes. Ugh, scan that would work, and
then they find it and it's a Boddy cop movie. Okay,
they're going to crack a drug ring and it's a
dog and a robot dog. Yeah. So there's a sex
leagued robodog that was capable of recognizing traffic and signals,
(41:23):
but they've kind of suck taken away two of the
legs that were only there for like stability and extra
balance and everything, and now there's a four legged one
and they can talk to you. So ye stop, It'll
be like stop traffic lights, yep, And I'll say it
can say it's got the countdown yeah, like twelve seconds,
eleven seconds. I can tell you how long does it?
(41:46):
I'll go on even a five or a seven second countdown,
I can get over the road pretty pretty quick. But yeah,
if you if you can't see that as a blind
pierce seconds across the road, So yeah, they are that cheap.
Well when they're outside their GPS like tracking yep, so
you know where you where where you're Maybe loved ones
(42:06):
are ye that are blind and apparently the University of
Glasgow's developed one as well. Could Robbie the robo guide right,
it describes the environment around it as it's going great
for the blind person. The other day that I saw
outside my place, what were they doing? Well, I got
(42:30):
a delivery and the delivery truck, you know, it's got
one of those big flappy down things at the back,
so it goes down and there I go. So they
and lower, but they came in at a really weird
angle so that it would come in over the footpath
and so they flap the finger and then they take
all the stuff up to the apartment and I'm just
waiting for them to come back down at the lift
(42:51):
and then I hear like an tonk and this guy
say what is this? And I tune around and it's
a blind guy with a cane and the things blocking
three quarter of the footpath because it's down. Is it
on the ground or is it slightly up? Slightly up?
So his cane went under it. It stopped, so he stopped.
And then he's like, what's the around because I see
him he walks down there all the time, so it'd
(43:12):
be like, what's happening here? This is different? Yeah, and
then I'm kind of hiding behind the thing. And then
I'm like I don't need to hide. Yeah, I know,
but I'm just you just need to be. I stayed
still and quiet, and I was like, right, technically not
my fault. I didn't park on the footpath. They did,
but you could have helped them. He didn't know it
was yours. A K was like there was enough room
for he got around. He was getting eventually at that stage. Yeah, right,
(43:34):
but I was like that's embarrassing. Yeah for me, I
like that you head from the blind guy. I know him,
and I was like, I don't need to hide, but
I stayed really still in case they were like the
Preddor movie and they could sense movement. Are you saying
here right? Okay, devil? But that robot guy dogs how great? Yeah?
But not as the horizon, not as cut nearly as cute.
(43:57):
But that means the dogs that were going me guy dogs,
they're now just free to be have pets more pets,
which is great for them. An US the.
Speaker 2 (44:05):

shocking Elizabeth and Mary and I have an an. Yeah,
put a put an Ann on there. What is mum's vice? Like,
what what's mum's naughty naughty naughty habit? She's just like,
(46:51):
what's mum's vice? Is it a bit of gambling? Is
it a bit of is it a smoke? And is
it a bit of drink? And to be puzzles? Could
be puzzles.
Speaker 3 (46:58):
He's really clean curs.
Speaker 10 (47:00):
Her vice is k missing she loves missing you, okay?
Speaker 1 (47:04):

any names's giving me a Diane? A Diane? Okay, we'll
put that down. Diane's put down Shannon because Shannon loves
a crocheting adjacent Shannon and Shannon's they wouldn't have been
many Shannon's seventy years. They might have been hobot as Shannon.
Speaker 10 (47:23):

Speaker 1 (47:28):

That's a good one, Leanne. What's mom's favorite movie?
Speaker 10 (47:46):
Oh, she's not really a movie.
Speaker 1 (47:49):
Person, TV or movies? What does she do well TV?
Speaker 10 (47:55):
She used to love a bit of Coronation Street.
Speaker 1 (47:57):

Jane j Jamerie. I don't know, just trying to think
(49:04):
about the j named Jenny. Julie. You've got Julie. I
don't as well. That would madness if you named all
of your daughters. Yeh, Janice, it would be madness. Okay, okay,
and you shush Alison. What about pets? What what's mum
(49:25):
got in the way of pets?
Speaker 9 (49:27):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (49:29):
Not really a pit person.
Speaker 9 (49:31):
When we were growing up, we had a cat called Wimpy,
Wimpy called.
Speaker 1 (49:41):
What was it called Wimpy. I've never heard of a
cat called Wimpy, haven't you. Wasn't there a comic strip?
It was an old comic strip. Yeah, okay. So we've
got a mum here that doesn't like boozing, doesn't she
doesn't really caro? Yeah, because she's just seen a lot
(50:04):
of time knitting.
Speaker 10 (50:06):
Just love watching.
Speaker 1 (50:09):
Yeah. No, no more questions, close, no more clothes? Is
that all the questions?
Speaker 8 (50:13):
Born?
Speaker 1 (50:14):
That's all question? Okay, Well let's try Allison. Here we
go fifteen seconds. Born's got to try and gets your
mum's name. If you hear your mum's name, yell out stop,
that's my mum's name. Your time starts now. Chris, Bev, Karen, Margaret, Wendy, Elizabeth,
Mary and Diane Shannon, Lynnett, Leanne, Janet Deardree Vonne Mary's
name one but pronounced oh, this is fantastic. So they
(50:43):
didn't go with three j names.
Speaker 9 (50:45):
No, And I am so amazed that you got there.
Speaker 1 (50:49):
How did a Vaughan come to you?
Speaker 11 (50:50):
Vaughn?
Speaker 1 (50:51):
It was when we were going through that. It was
actually weirdly enough. You see her sister's name was Judah.
That was the name straight after Judith. I was just
going through the vintage year, right, if you're that vintage
of names. Yeah, I had. I had a real feeling
to even with a cold, the psychic hum there has
really works connection. Well, you've locked in one hundred dollars, Allison,
and you've triggered the bonus round, the bonus round. While
(51:15):
you're on the phone, have a go, I guess in
your dad's name and there's no questions. It's just deliberation
and no no noises from you. Allison. Please like you
to remain quiet during this fletch. Give me give me
a number between one and wonder what five? Five? Okay,
(51:37):
so you're opening the New Zealand Herald on page five?
Name is somewhere on this page? Who's that photo of?
That's Christopher Luxen talking to Mike Hoskin. Who's that with
the hat? That's Naimu Blair. That's you think it's you
think Avon is married to n There's a Winston here,
there's a Steward, could be a Christopher like that's a
(51:59):
timeless person of one seven within many seventies Christopher's the fifties, fifties. No,
I mean that would be seventies and the seventies now,
I think there'd be some Christopher's that were Are there
any other names on that page? What about the journalists
that wrote the Jamie Adam Adam No, I mean it
(52:20):
doesn't have to be one of those on page five.
Had a real feeling that you could get us there
with the number. Well, Vaughn need about the Middle East
and petrol being more expensive. We need one name, maybe, yeah,
Benjamin Um, it's an old boys name. Trevor, old boys
and Trevor and Von Trevor and von N and trip
(52:43):
Von and Trev does that's it? It doesn't feel one
hundred percent crep, but I don't have a stronger connection
at the moment. Okay, well you don't want to go
with Christopher, I might regret it. Okay, well I don't
think it's old made enough Vaughan. What is the name Trev?
Is your dad's name Trev? Alice? And now what's your
(53:04):
dance name? Don Don short for Donald N and Evet. Sorry, well,
unfortunately miss out on the bonus cash, but you've still
got one hundred dollars Allison. Fantastic effort, a mum, thank
(53:25):
you very much for ban.
Speaker 2 (53:27):
Podcast network.
Speaker 1 (53:29):
What's going on?
Speaker 8 (53:30):
Ms?
Speaker 2 (53:30):
Fletched Vaughn and Hailey.
Speaker 1 (53:32):
I I've taken a leaf out of your book because
audiobooks is reading, thank you, And I've been listening to
audios thank you. I've been listening to a series called
Dungeon Crawler Carl, which is like a chaotic book and
about nerds. It's about what's about like the end of
the world and right that's all the humans remaining get
put in like a dungeon to survive, and it's tall.
(53:54):
It's broadcast to the universe and all the aliens take
bits on them and stuff. It's pretty, it's light and cheerful,
it's check full and differently full of gore and absolutely
but Seth McFarlane from Family gou Famous like bought the
rights to make it into a TV show. Oh wow, Okay,
so so it's a big deal a it's a big
deal Dungeon Crawler car. But I got to the end
of my Dungeon Crawl a carbalok, and I didn't have
the next one. And I did have a book I
(54:16):
was given to listen to called When the Cranes, When
the Cranes Fly South, And I was like, oh, I'll
listen to it, and like a construction crane. Yeah, so
the Flincher construction cranes and the smith cranes. Okay, because
you never see them get caught up. It's because they
fly because I've fay into the top of these tall buildings.
You never see them come down. Yeah, yeah, because they
(54:37):
fly south and the construction industry. No, it's originally a
Swedish book and it's about the Nords do like they
did the Girl with the Dragon tattoo, right, they just
do dark stuff they do and like really emotionally charged.
They're not concerned with a happy end. Well you know why.
It's because they don't see the sun for a lot
(54:59):
of the year. That's one hundred percent addressed in this book. Okay,
So it's about this old guy and he's looking back
on his life. He's he's like also, it really made
me be like, man, those Nordics they got it, they
got it sorted with their like what do they call
it socialism? You pay higher taxes. But like, he's an
old man living by himself. Four times a day a
hera has come around to make sure he's eating and
(55:19):
clean him up and give him a wash and everything
at his own heart. And I know the services like
that here, like this one sounds yeah, pretty pretty, all lovely,
and don't the presidents have like hydraslides and stuff like, yeah,
they've got it right, really slides and arts and crafts. Yeah,
it's the muster seen, pipe cleaners, all all the works.
So it's about this old boy and he's at the
(55:39):
end of his life and he's like looking back on
his life. Are you okay reading all these Did you
see did you see this week that the release of
Bop is now in the timeline of Earth closer to
the moon landing than it is to the prison day
just right around. Make your mind matter for a little bit. Yeah,
(56:02):
got to stop doing that. Right. If you use Hanson's
Bop the release of that song as a perfect point,
it's now closer to the moon landing than if you
saw it the other way towards us. Yeah, and we're
now closer to twenty fifty. Then were the changes that part?
So this old Man this is in the book. Yeah,
this is I don't want to spoil I'm not going
(56:24):
to spoil it because I will say it's a hell
of a listen if you're into like, don't listen if
you like cheerful stuff or like action pack stuff or
political thrillers, because it is just basically an old man
reflecting on his life and he's got a dog and
that's all he's got left and they want to take
his dog away. Oh okay, Yeah, So it's that classic
like yeah, heartbreaking Man and his Dogs, except it's not
(56:47):
John Work. Yeah, it's not John Work where the dog
is killed and then he goes on a on a
rampage of revenge, took his dog four franchises. Yeah, that's
only what I'll have a yeah, because I love those
movies so good. Did you watch The Armor of the
armis the Belly that's a spin off. He appears in it.
Spoiler Okay, but he appears in it. But it's not
(57:09):
that sort of vengeful tale, right, It's it's just all
he's got left is the dog. Sons like middle aged
and depressed, and his wife's in a demention unit, and
all he's got as the dog. Well, I want to
take his dog. Listeners will know. I run a very
successful Instagram account Fletch Listens, where I its just pictures
of me listening to audio books. Carwen has a similarly
(57:32):
I guess on par Instagram account, Carwen Read and Read.
Do you think it's at at the time for a
post on Fletch could and you can be listening to
me talking about the book. Listen Fletch listens about Vaughn listens, Yes,
have you heard about this book?
Speaker 3 (57:48):
I haven't.
Speaker 4 (57:49):
I love I love a translated book, mostly Japanese translated books,
because honestly, you get to the end and you feel
like you've not really moved, but in the best way possibly.
Speaker 1 (57:58):
There would go top to bottom on the books is
that Japanese. You read Japanese books, you started the back
and you work.
Speaker 4 (58:05):
A while, but when they're translated it's just stereotypical English.
Speaker 1 (58:09):
The right way. It would be so hard to read
a book backwards. I know, I'd always be like I'd
be halfway through and I'd forget and I'd go to
go forwards again and read that you ruined the ending
too well.
Speaker 4 (58:21):
Also because I hate when you get to like the
end of the book and one side is really heavy,
you know, like the front side is really heavy.
Speaker 3 (58:27):
But that would be how you started.
Speaker 1 (58:30):
That doesn't happen in audiobooks.
Speaker 3 (58:31):
Yeah, true, it's a positive.
Speaker 1 (58:34):
It gets a bit heavier on the lead. It's just
it's sitting on a central balance when it sounds going,
and that's how you know you're halfway through. The kindlestock
is moving from one side to the other and a
little bit of a difference.
Speaker 4 (58:46):
Well, when you finish the sad book and you want
something like very shell. I have just recently read a
ki author's book about a male male romance and one
of them is a sentient car.
Speaker 1 (58:56):
So a Zealand author has written transformers erotica.
Speaker 4 (59:03):
It's not a transformer but sure to bring the gaze
into that humping cars Carwen, But what is he first?
Speaker 1 (59:12):
Is he a male attracted to cars or a male
attracted to males?
Speaker 4 (59:16):
Like?
Speaker 1 (59:16):
What would he bang a female car? Human?
Speaker 4 (59:21):
Main character's queer, So both goes both ways. But the
car has a sentient being attached to the car, which is.
Speaker 1 (59:29):
Kind of like you read. I think you've read too much.
I think it's not it feels like you've read too much.
Just going to go to a Westfield's car park and
just just armstrong auto.
Speaker 3 (59:44):
It's the sentient being attached to the car that.
Speaker 1 (59:46):
He's know when there's so many more books you could
be reading, like what are you doing? Start with the Bible?
Speaker 4 (59:52):
Sometimes you have to have a serious book and then
just flip to something silly.
Speaker 5 (59:55):
But I don't wait to go home and ask my
boyfriend if he'd love me if I was a car.
Speaker 1 (01:00:01):
And hold hold it against them regardless of MASSA.
Speaker 2 (01:00:05):
Does that M Podcast Network plays z m's flesh Born
and Haley.
Speaker 1 (01:00:11):
Fact of the day, day day day day.
Speaker 6 (01:00:18):
Do do do do do do do do do do
do do?
Speaker 1 (01:00:26):
When you think about famous kisses, what one pops the mind? None? None, none, Okay, Okay,
let me ask you again. But when I ask you
if you think about famous kisses, which one do you
think of? You say, the the the VJ Day kiss
and Times Square that was really famous, a black and
white photo taken in America when the victory of Japan
(01:00:48):
was right. What's when you think of the most famous kisses?
What what kiss do you think of?
Speaker 5 (01:00:56):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (01:00:56):
Probably that one in Times Square with the the the
the j Japan Oh August fourteen, nineteen fourty fix someone,
that's right? Black and white? Yes, yes, iconic. Well, Alfred
was out shooting for Life magazine just to capture Americans
celebrating the victory out of Japan in the end of
the war, and he spotted a sailor moving through the
(01:01:17):
crowd and grabbing multiple women and kissing them and discriminately. Okay,
all right, mate. He follows them doing this, sees them
do it to several women, and he grabs one photo
and that one is the perfect published and Life magazine
that very month, August twenty seven, nineteen forty five, immediately
became the sort of symbolic of the victory over Japan
(01:01:40):
and heroicism of the American soldier. But you would have
seen that photo and thought, here's a woman that was
waiting for her man to return from war, and she
even know who he was. He was a sailor and
she was a nurse, or so everybody thought because she
was in a white uniform. So that became like the legend.
The photo just spread like wow, for Harry, is he's returning.
(01:02:02):
He was in the navy. She was a nurse tending
to wounded soldiers on the home front. So he was
a bit of a pest in a navy uniform kissing
multiple woman and she was a dental assistant just down
there apparently to see what was happening, just on a
lunch break. Yeah, there was one stamps, there was merchandise,
and it was essentially unquestioned as the icon of collective
joy in the end.
Speaker 8 (01:02:22):
Of the war.
Speaker 1 (01:02:23):
Did they even like end up together or like she
didn't know him right? He ran him like oldie times misinformation?
Speaker 11 (01:02:31):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (01:02:32):
What did Winston Churchill say about the truth? I can
get halfway around the world before the truth even puts
its pants on in the morning. Yeah, and that's when
it's a good story and people want to buy into it, right, Yeah,
people love a good story. They buy into it, so,
she said. She gave multiple interviews about the kiss, including
an official telling to the Library of Congress, which is
(01:02:53):
like set in stone now it's American history. She said,
I did not know the sailor. He grabbed me, no warning,
no and sent and he being unable to move her
mouth and his arm clamped around her. She was like,
I'm not saying she never said a sault. Yeah, she
said it was a wartime frenzy and everybody was just
like elated and on life and everything. Oh wow, so
(01:03:16):
they said the sailor's name is George. He had acknowledged
grabbing woman that day. His explanation he'd been drinking. He
was eupharik. Yeah he died in twenty nineteen, did he Yeah? Okay,
so we would just speaking, just took him before the show.
With Anzac Day coming up, how many old mates are
still around? So that's blew my mind. I googled it
last Anzac Day and granted, we may have lost some
(01:03:37):
of our wartime you know, heroes and vitza over the
last year. There was eighty one surviving World War Two
veterans in New Zealand last year. Wow, it's a line
because it's Yeah, it's been a long time. It would
be well over one hundred now, Yeah, because you know,
even at the end of the war, a lot of
them lied, didn't They about to get to go to
the toga, Like, man, I shouldn't have lied, Yeah, wish
(01:03:58):
I hadn't lied. I shouldn't have lied at all. So
today's spect today is one of the most well known
kisses in history. It turns out has a whole other story.
Fact of the day, day day day day do do
do do do do?
Speaker 11 (01:04:17):
Do? Do?
Speaker 8 (01:04:17):
Do?
Speaker 11 (01:04:18):
Do?
Speaker 2 (01:04:18):
Do needwork?
Speaker 1 (01:04:23):
Spray tan fails Now though, a girlipop has accidentally left
one of those pimple little pimple passes on during the
fall spray can Yeah, and then ended up with the
doll in the middle of her forehead, well just off
center of her forehead. So I can't be confused with
a culturally inappropriate dindy, right, it's kind of a bit
higher and a bit to the side. But she left
(01:04:45):
it on, and she didn't realize till she got out
of the full body yeah spray Tan and was like,
oh my god, I've left this thing. And she pulls
it off and she's got this big white surfle and
Christian because I know a lot I have friends that
use the pimple patches. Did that she work?
Speaker 5 (01:04:59):
Yeah, you know differentely can protect it. It's more of
a barrier at first, but then you can get ones
that have like holuronic in it and pull some stuff out.
Speaker 1 (01:05:06):
That's what's in it. And it pulls the stuff out, right, Yeah,
I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:05:09):
You pull it off and there's all that gunk.
Speaker 1 (01:05:11):
What so it makes it more squeezing.
Speaker 3 (01:05:13):
Yeah, yeah, the gunk comes off on the stick.
Speaker 1 (01:05:15):
And I know I like to squeeze it out.
Speaker 5 (01:05:17):
It does also bring it forward, but yeah, ultimately it's
a really good protection so you're not rubbing it on
or so.
Speaker 1 (01:05:23):
She forgets she forgets it's on her head and gets
a spray tand and then has to take it and
takes it off and has got the circle. I've got
this as long as that spray tand is going to
last have a little circle. I mean you could patch
it right or use your finger.
Speaker 3 (01:05:36):
And she she kind of goes to the front desk.
She's like, guys, what do I do?
Speaker 4 (01:05:40):
And they like spray her forehead and then try and
like blend it in, but it's it's not personally.
Speaker 1 (01:05:45):
Yeah, okay, could you could she have like punched a
hole in an a four piece of paper and they
just spray done that and then she's stuck. I would
have just left the plaster on for a little bit longer. No,
because you in the last weeks. Yeah, yeah, I know,
but it'll fade a little bit, right, may not?
Speaker 5 (01:06:02):
As like it is shocking how prevalent a tan is,
Like if you pee pretty soon after it, you're getting
a streak down the lept.
Speaker 1 (01:06:12):
Are you getting some dribbles? I've heard that, and.
Speaker 5 (01:06:15):
I've stained my toilet a many times by sitting on it,
just by sitting.
Speaker 1 (01:06:19):
On it, because you forget or you decide well as well,
you know. Yeah, but it doesn't clean off the toilet
the place that would come on.
Speaker 3 (01:06:26):
I just exit mold everything I owned.
Speaker 1 (01:06:29):
Exit mold is magic. This woman should have done to
her face. I don't scratch. I don't think we'd be
encouraging that at all. Somebody message it's some spread tan failed,
but it's a fake tan fail. Okay. My old union
boyfriend got some burd on a space and asked to
borrow my moisturizer. I said, yees, it's in the drawer home.
He used the one with tan and it multiple times.
(01:06:49):
He work up the next day so dark in the face, like.
Speaker 5 (01:06:55):
Gradual tans are so unsuspected because you don't think about it.
If you forget to wash your hands after using it,
you will have bright orange palms and you gotta wash
your hands with salt for this.
Speaker 1 (01:07:04):
And people that go to sleep in the sheets and
they end up brown. This is exactly what we want
to know right now. Eight one hundred dances at MS
our number. You can take through nine six nine six.
What was your fake tan fail? Give us a call
right now though. We're talking about your fake tan fails.
Because girl's gone viral for leaving a pimple patch on
her forehead and now she's just a white dot on
her head and the rest of it is a lovely
(01:07:27):
golden brown. Lovely, lovely golden brown. Grace, Johan says, Grace,
what was your fake tan fail?
Speaker 8 (01:07:33):
More dinner?
Speaker 6 (01:07:34):
So I am a big busted.
Speaker 1 (01:07:36):
Lady, Okay, and congratulations, thank you?
Speaker 11 (01:07:40):
Wow, not really.
Speaker 10 (01:07:43):
I got a spray tan trial for my wedding and
it's fully topless because I thought that was the best thing.
Speaker 4 (01:07:50):
I thought the spray ten hours to tell me what
to do.
Speaker 11 (01:07:52):
She never told me to lift my boobs, and so.
Speaker 5 (01:07:56):
I wore avening day.
Speaker 11 (01:07:57):
I had these big, beautiful half circles on my stomach.
Speaker 1 (01:08:01):
Because the boobs were in the way when they when
the spray. Yeah, okay, very much in the way. I
wouldn't have thought of that. I would have thought they
would have told you what. But I'm guessing they just
assume everyone knows.
Speaker 8 (01:08:10):
What to do.
Speaker 4 (01:08:11):
Right, well, you'd saying, but yeah, no, I didn't know.
Speaker 9 (01:08:15):
It looks hilarious were.
Speaker 1 (01:08:16):
You were in a spray booth, like she wasn't doing
it by hand like a panel beater. You were in
a spray berth, and it.
Speaker 12 (01:08:20):
Just no, it was panel and she still yeah, she
didn't tell me, And so yeah, maybe it would be
all could be hard to tell someone to lift their boobs, right.
Speaker 8 (01:08:32):
Yeah, I mean if you were looking at them, you
and I.
Speaker 1 (01:08:35):
Have said it five or six times. Hard to say,
as this.
Speaker 5 (01:08:40):
Happened to you, and in the spray booth, Yeah, they
always tell you to lift it with the back of
your hand, So you don't love finger marks, but you
can use like the backs of your hand.
Speaker 3 (01:08:49):
And I always get a full told lift and same
with the rear.
Speaker 1 (01:08:53):
You go, you don't left the booty. You gonna pop
that booty, pop the booty? Okay, did that put you
off spray hands after that? Grace?
Speaker 5 (01:09:04):
I am a self tanner now.
Speaker 1 (01:09:06):
Okay, yeah, that's easier. You always left the bird.
Speaker 9 (01:09:09):
Well, I don't do my stomach anymore because no one
sees it.
Speaker 1 (01:09:12):
Yeah right, just a bits, just see. Yeah, it keeps
it cheaper too, Grace, thank you. Let's go to Peter. Peter,
what was your fat tan fail?
Speaker 2 (01:09:23):
Good morning? I breasted my baby?
Speaker 1 (01:09:28):
Yeah, these coming in coming in and what it had
a big orange ring around its mouth. Oh yeah, like
a Homer Simpson beard.
Speaker 3 (01:09:37):
Not much you can do about it either.
Speaker 1 (01:09:39):
Yeah, okay you are. You're definitely not alone. This has
been a popular text message.
Speaker 8 (01:09:45):
Alone.
Speaker 1 (01:09:46):
So what happened? You can't wipe it off, can you know?
Speaker 7 (01:09:50):
Well, there's going so delicate, so you kind of just
have to leave it.
Speaker 1 (01:09:55):
That's so funny. The rest of the baby, Yeah, same,
so much, no noticed, But then they'll start asking questions
about its origin. Yeah, one day, Rebecca trumps child. Rebecca,
what was the fake tan fail?
Speaker 2 (01:10:09):
So when I was a teenager, I was living at home.
Speaker 9 (01:10:14):
Yeah, and I couldn't find my met to do my
fake ten. Yeah, so I described a sock, any sock
that I could find.
Speaker 3 (01:10:22):
I didn't even really think about it, you know, like
as a teenager you don't, And.
Speaker 5 (01:10:26):
So I just chucked it in the wash and never
thought about it again and went on with my life.
Speaker 9 (01:10:31):
And my parents went away on holiday, and turned out
I used my mom's sock, and so on holiday she
wore that sock and slowly, overtime her foot turned orange
and my mom and dad thought she was like gravely ill.
Speaker 11 (01:10:49):
I was so confused because she didn't feel.
Speaker 1 (01:10:51):
Sick at all, and so it was like a dark sock,
so she couldn't see that it was leaching onto her
foot from the sock. Yeah, it was a black Please
tell me if you spend like five hundred dollars to
go to a US hospital or something.
Speaker 2 (01:11:05):
No, I don't think no she did it.
Speaker 9 (01:11:08):
I think they was just really confused for a while
and just watching it. But nothing came of it.
Speaker 1 (01:11:13):
So it was just that. So yeah, yeah, Rebecca, thank you.
Message is that fake tan found my south of my
best friend. We're comparing tans, and it turns out she
wore a G string backwards. Oh okayper so she had
like a white triangle on her bat. Yep, I wish
you shouldn't have been. Husband grabbed the sunstring to take
on a work fishing chowder, handed it around the boat
(01:11:34):
all day. Good to be so smart. Unfortunately had the
fake tan. Everyone in the boat came back orange brilliant.
Speaker 6 (01:11:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:11:42):
Um, somebody else said, didn't lift the butt. Had two
big white crescent moons on the top of my leg. Oh,
they're going to stand out, aren't they? Keep your ticks
coming in nine six nine? Sex, I want to know
your fake tan fails. Yeah, lady had a stick around
her head. One of those pimple stickers on her head
got fake tan, and she got a white dot on
her head. Honey, no shortage of them.
Speaker 5 (01:12:02):
Um.
Speaker 1 (01:12:03):
I was a spicy dancer and forgot to spread the
cheeks during a four body spray, so when I bent
over on stage, my crack was still lily wait. Oh no.
One of the lovely gentlemen told me, oh, okay, thank
you nice for pointing that out. Yeah. I was breastfitting
at the time I had and I had a let
down mid spray, so lactation began, so I had dribbles
(01:12:25):
and stains down the bird to the stomach. Yeah okay. Yeah.
My mum used fake tan many years ago and woke
up the next morning and dad was half orange because
she'd been like snuggling up to him in the night,
but only on one side, so he was a very
half orange man. I mean, you just have to get
your own tan right to even it out. Yeah. So
many people are messaging on her do the spray fake tan,
(01:12:48):
saying amateurer, not to ask the ladies with the big
birds to give them a lift? Yeah, you know, and
no one's offended. No, I was fair if you could
give those of it, yeah, chuck, then give him on
the hoys love. Yes, I still foind it wild that
someone's in there spraying, you do you? Yeah, it's weird.
It's just weird. Women's beauty stuff so much more intrusive
(01:13:09):
than I know. It is, like you know, Brazilians and
stuff and ye all the bits out, isn't it all up? Yeah?
All up in there. Ah. So you more a lot
of breastfeeding, a lot of the breastfeeding, and the other
babies look the orange faces. My family's spent a very
I spent a weekend at a very flash house, going
to extremes to make sure the grand kids didn't make
any mess. Oh yeah, as we left the house, my
(01:13:31):
sister put on fake tan and walked out. My mum
had a few call a few days later ask him
why they were orange footprints down the hallway. Cost a
fair bit to get that, and so it wasn't the
grand kids, that was their own kids. At fourteen years old,
I first faked tan. My friend and I did it together.
Were both naturally very pale, used Garnier spray on, and
it was very orange. We were so orange to the
(01:13:51):
point the kids at school were teasing me and calling
it on polompa. I faked a sicky and went home
at lunchtime and literally used a pomers stone to scrub it. No. Yeah,
genuinely deeps more than you need. Okay, when we come back, Nick,
So we're going to be joined by Melissa O'Neill, who
plays Lucy Chin on the Rookie does z.
Speaker 2 (01:14:14):
M podcast Needwork Play z MSN and Haley.
Speaker 1 (01:14:20):
We're joined in studio by Melissa O'Neill known as LUs
Chan from the Rookie. Good morning and thank you for
joining us.
Speaker 7 (01:14:26):
Good morning.
Speaker 1 (01:14:29):
Oh this is great now have you how long have
you been in New Zealand for, Because it's been a
couple of days it's been news reports. Have you seen these?
Speaker 7 (01:14:36):
I have not seen the news because I've been too
busy in joying your country.
Speaker 1 (01:14:39):
Apparently you are in Oada Honga and a cafe.
Speaker 7 (01:14:41):
Is that how you pronounce it?
Speaker 11 (01:14:44):
Yeah? Yes, okay, So we were at Fatiwi. We also
went to Cafe Dynasty that was amazing. We went to
the way Tomo Caves that was awesome. We went to
the Coo Geothermal Park that was epic.
Speaker 1 (01:14:58):
Yeah, current really crampson stuff fun.
Speaker 7 (01:15:01):
Heck, yeah, did you do hobbiton that's tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (01:15:06):
It's amazing it is.
Speaker 11 (01:15:08):
I wanted to soak up like the Maudi culture. Yeah,
so that's why we went out there. We went to
Tapui and yeah, I'm trying to remember what else.
Speaker 2 (01:15:15):
I saw some kiwis.
Speaker 7 (01:15:16):
I've never seen some kiwis before.
Speaker 1 (01:15:17):
It's that good that they they're.
Speaker 11 (01:15:20):
Super goofy and I see why I understood there's a
there's a rump on it.
Speaker 7 (01:15:24):
I understand why you guys were, you know, I understand
why people were eating them.
Speaker 1 (01:15:27):
Yeah, it was yet bird. They look delicious. They look delicious. Yep,
you're not allowed to though, now frown upon?
Speaker 7 (01:15:35):
Have you told your listeners who else is in the
studio already?
Speaker 1 (01:15:38):
I am they we mentioned earlier. My daughters are in
the studio. They're massive fans of the Rookie. So yeah,
a couple of truant children. You'd to reach them actually
on the Rookie for not being at school.
Speaker 7 (01:15:47):
Well, this is what I heard.
Speaker 11 (01:15:48):
I heard they're slipping school to be here. Are not
supposed to tell everybody?
Speaker 1 (01:15:53):
I actually haven't done that thing where you're gone and
at now and tell them they're going to be late.
So I please explain your daughter's absence from school. She's busy. Yeah, yeah,
that's busy. That busy meeting one of the heroes. And
New Zealan has been on your back list for a while.
Speaker 11 (01:16:07):
Since I think two thousand, maybe even thirteen or fourteen.
Speaker 1 (01:16:13):
Why.
Speaker 11 (01:16:14):
I just because I love the mountains and I you know,
I'm a Canadian girl. I love being out in nature
and I think some at some Google image search just
like threw up some New Zealand mountains and I was
instantly like, where is that?
Speaker 1 (01:16:24):
And I still have the.
Speaker 7 (01:16:25):
Photo on my phone?
Speaker 11 (01:16:27):
And you know, we didn't get to go out to
the South Island on this trip, but it's just it's magnificent,
even just like driving through the rural parts of the country,
like the sky. I come from Calgary, it's kind of
flat land, but we have mountains off in the distance,
so you get to see so much of the sky.
But your cloud systems here are really beautiful and do
stunning things in the sky.
Speaker 7 (01:16:44):
Do you guys like nature?
Speaker 1 (01:16:46):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh when was the last time
you girls wanted to go on a bushwalk? Yeah? Exactly.
I is telling you what you want to, hear, Melissa.
So you kind of get around the globe now with
like these rookie conventions. Right, you're here for arm again
and which is generally more of a pop culture expo,
but there are like rookie conventions.
Speaker 7 (01:17:07):
So that just started. We were just talking about this earlier.
Speaker 11 (01:17:09):
So in Germany they brought Eric and I over at
one point, and it was the same thing with Paris,
and they had such an incredible response that they said,
let's bring more of the cast out. And so now
in Germany we had a full rookie convention, almost the
entire cast save for a couple of people who were
still trying to like tease to get out or trying
to get Nathan to come out with us. And in
Paris we have everyone including Smitty and Patrick like he's
(01:17:33):
coming and Aaron He's coming to the convention. It's a
full Rookie con So, yeah, I hope we get to
come with everybody out here.
Speaker 7 (01:17:41):
This country is so beautiful.
Speaker 1 (01:17:42):
Yeah, I feel like the streaming numbers would kind of
I've got them here. It's an insane now we keep
in mind we're a country of five million. Yes, and
the past three years, episodes of The Rookie have been
streamed over thirty eight point five million times on TV
and Z Plus, which is the how free to way
like national broadcast there.
Speaker 11 (01:17:59):
Yeah, I feel like a number like that, it's really
hard to even wrap your brain around. Like I feel
as an individual, you'd probably spend a few of your
lifetimes if you were gonna.
Speaker 1 (01:18:08):
Yeah that the top show on TV and Z plus
last year beating the News, Love Island UK, great tonock
them down the Pig and.
Speaker 11 (01:18:21):
You beat Bluey Okay, So I just saw a pool
at geothermal pool called Bleuie.
Speaker 7 (01:18:26):
So what is Bluey here?
Speaker 1 (01:18:27):
Blowey is the little cartoon Australian Dog. We beat Louis. Yeah, yeah,
like on TV plus fine for a long time was
TV's Plus is the Crown and the Jewel the jewel
in the Crown.
Speaker 7 (01:18:41):
Well we'll share it, I mean hopefully not.
Speaker 1 (01:18:43):
We really like working.
Speaker 7 (01:18:44):
So thank you as you know going.
Speaker 1 (01:18:47):
Because I just look at your Instagram and like people
were literally pounding you in the comments coming new when
they were yeah, I don't want to get on the
because Brazil's it's always been Brazilians that are.
Speaker 11 (01:18:58):
Very much like yeah, we do have a lot of
Brazilian fans that want us to come out and we
would love to make that work.
Speaker 7 (01:19:05):
But you would you would be the one to know
about my Instagram comments.
Speaker 1 (01:19:09):
I can't, I can't. I was going to say I can't.
When the news broke that you were here, they were
like there was something like a salon off at a Blowwave.
I did get that cube and the ladies that you
had a photo with at the cafe, and I put
it up and somebody else commented on it and on
your price as well. Look, I've commented on the other post,
(01:19:30):
but if you're passing through it would love to give
you a complimentary blow wise.
Speaker 11 (01:19:33):
Okay, So what I will tell you is I I
don't I loathe to admit this publicly, but I was
looking through my Instagram message requests and the amount of
requests I had from teachers who were inviting us to
the school to come hang out. Wow, I kind of
want to just do like I know, you guys said,
Hopton is awesome. I kind of want to ditch Hopton
(01:19:55):
and like just go hang out at all the schools.
Speaker 7 (01:19:57):
It looks really cool and fun.
Speaker 11 (01:20:00):
And the only other job I ever really wanted growing
up as a kid was like to be a teacher,
And I was like, I want to go, like check
out all the schools and hang out with everybody and see.
Speaker 1 (01:20:07):
You guys get in trouble. If I showed up, they'd
be like, why did you skip? So girls, you've wagged skull.
So I do you have a question?
Speaker 2 (01:20:18):
Yeah, which actor in the Rookie makes you break your.
Speaker 1 (01:20:24):
Character the most?
Speaker 11 (01:20:26):
You know the answer to this, don't you? I'll say it,
but I feel like you know, I mean, it's definitely Eric. Yeah,
Eric Winter, who plays Tim Bradford. As I'm sure people know,
we have an absolute hoot together. And even though we
play romantic characters. Occasionally we are absolute knobs. We're so
(01:20:46):
ridiculous with each other and yeah, we we just have
a lot of fun on set. But the other actor
is is definitely Eric. We we we crack up.
Speaker 1 (01:20:54):
We spoke to him. What a month or two guys
beg into his ram, isn't it?
Speaker 11 (01:20:57):
He is?
Speaker 7 (01:20:58):
He is, and it's doing really well.
Speaker 1 (01:20:59):
It's tasted it. Yes, I have, I have, I think
if it's mine acting partner, and he's like, no, you'll
buy it like everybody else.
Speaker 11 (01:21:11):
Hold on, hold on what I What I'll say is Eric,
I see cameras around.
Speaker 7 (01:21:15):
So what I'll just say is Eric.
Speaker 11 (01:21:17):
Is a business man, right, Okay, Okay, he's a businessman.
If you're running a business, you can't just be giving
away things willingly.
Speaker 7 (01:21:24):
But but we did.
Speaker 11 (01:21:25):
I did get a pr package and I did a
proper like Instagram commercial for it. But no, the age
does really exceptional. If you like to drink spirits on
its own, like Eric, you owe me money for this.
Speaker 1 (01:21:36):
Advertisement. We'll get a hashtage.
Speaker 11 (01:21:40):
Yeah no, but but it's wonderful and they're winning a
ton of awards and he's super proud of it, and
we're all very proud of him at work too.
Speaker 7 (01:21:46):
Yeah, it's really cool.
Speaker 1 (01:21:47):
It's very cool.
Speaker 11 (01:21:48):
When he comes you guys should prime him and be like,
if you're coming to studio, you need to bring down.
Speaker 1 (01:21:54):
This thing in New Zealand. If you go into empty
handed and the thing, should I have something? Did you
have a question as well? Andy?
Speaker 8 (01:22:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:22:05):
So when you were filming the like barrels scene in
season two and you sang this song, did you get
to choose that or was it like like someone else
did for you?
Speaker 1 (01:22:13):
Dark question? Yes? For people I haven't seen and your
characters kidnapped, yes and buried alive in a barrel?
Speaker 7 (01:22:21):
Yeah, spoiler from like six years ago.
Speaker 1 (01:22:22):
Yeah, I didn't out a talk about it. And you
sang dream a little dream of me Yes, when you're
in the haunting. Oh, because that's a beautiful song, right,
but it's in a very haunting situation. Yeah.
Speaker 11 (01:22:35):
So it was really neat actually, Alexi. They were trying
to figure it out and he kind of pitched it
to me, like what do you do? You have any
ideas about this? And I kind of went away with
it and I didn't think about it too much. But
I had recently a couple of Christmases ago. It's one
of my mom's favorite songs, and I sang it at
like a Christmas concert, but it was like a more
happy version, and I thought the same thing like lyrically.
(01:22:56):
I thought it was actually very appropriate for that moment.
And I think that when people are in really desperate situations,
they kind of cling to hope, and I felt like
there was something hopeful about it, even though it's like
so sad.
Speaker 1 (01:23:09):
And tragic and now you've ruined your mom's favorite song.
I watched the Get Period Alive on television to watch it.
She won't watch it. Really, Yeah, my family.
Speaker 11 (01:23:18):
Doesn't watch stuff that's like super They don't want to
see it because for me, for them, it's still their
daughter's face.
Speaker 7 (01:23:23):
I want to see it.
Speaker 1 (01:23:24):
So they like, are you like, okay, these are the
episodes this season that are safe to watch? One, I'd
skip two, I've shot two, three on back. And is
it like that or do you just say, maybe give
this one a wide birth.
Speaker 11 (01:23:36):
My parents give me a wide berth in general, and
it's I think it's how they keep me humble.
Speaker 7 (01:23:41):
They're not terribly interested or invested in my work in
that way. Don't hang me out to drive mom and dad.
Speaker 11 (01:23:48):
But it's like my dad for the very first time
this year started watching the show and it's so funny. No,
I know, and he texted me He's like, really great work, honey,
and I'm like, Thankstaf.
Speaker 1 (01:24:00):
Season eight Dad.
Speaker 11 (01:24:03):
I mean it does.
Speaker 7 (01:24:04):
It has always kept me humbled.
Speaker 1 (01:24:06):
What generation are they? Your parents? Are they like boomers or.
Speaker 7 (01:24:09):
They're well, they're born sixty five sixty seven.
Speaker 1 (01:24:11):
Okay, so like upper gen X? Yeah, very very late,
very early gen X late week. Yeah, parents doesn't get
to hear yourself. Yeah, a Canadian key, We we've got
that in common, right, there's a bit of that whereas
but you've got the American sinxter. We've got the Australians
that are very much like beat the chest and sing
our own praises. Yeah.
Speaker 11 (01:24:30):
No, my parents even and I've done some cool stuff
that I'm proud of, and my parents have always kind
of been.
Speaker 7 (01:24:36):
Like, Okay, Melissa, come down and join the rest of us.
I'm like, you asked me about my day.
Speaker 1 (01:24:41):
I don't understand. That's so funny. What do you think
of the New Zealand police uniform? Have you seen it
out and about? Because I don't think We've got a
very great uniform. A bit yuck. What do you mean,
y I feel like the I feel like the lapd
ones like quite. It's a good uniform, a good looking uniform.
Seeing on the on the movies and TV shows all.
Speaker 7 (01:25:03):
The time, well those have been tailored.
Speaker 1 (01:25:05):
Oh maybe we don't tailor baggy New Zealand Police Force
they tailor around the arm. Everybody looks like the rock
and mass of biceps in New Zealand's That's what Eric does.
Does take the man.
Speaker 7 (01:25:16):
He takes them in.
Speaker 1 (01:25:17):
I don't reckon anyone's getting free body to run. You
get any rum now.
Speaker 11 (01:25:24):
I have to let my pants out, so you know,
like it's fine, it is what it is. No, but
we actually have a ride along later. I'm amazing, super
excited about it. I was actually just asking our lovely
lady from TV and z Emily. I was like, okay,
can you hook me up with.
Speaker 1 (01:25:38):
Like a T shirt?
Speaker 7 (01:25:39):
So if you guys are listening, amazing, I'm going to
see you in a little bit.
Speaker 1 (01:25:41):
Can you get a T shirt? Do you known? Like
the New Zealand reality shows like Police ten seven Motorway Patrol,
they go around the world because they're pretty out. They're
pretty out there. We've got some characters and yeah, they've
been like famous for decades, haven't they. Yeah, played around
the world.
Speaker 11 (01:25:57):
Yeah, maybe it needs to be a spin off of
like The Rookie New Zealand and do you think that
would hit?
Speaker 7 (01:26:01):
Do you think people would like that?
Speaker 11 (01:26:03):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (01:26:03):
Small town in them. We've got some.
Speaker 7 (01:26:05):
People nodding, We've got some people going.
Speaker 1 (01:26:08):
We've asked everybody ask because we've talked to Nathan and
Eric and we asked the one question ask. Nathan told
us you do this every season. You do some aspect
of actual police training with the LAPD. Yeah, what's been
your favorite, like when you maybe right along or because
Nathan's was Nathan's was the the training? Yeah, like hostage
(01:26:30):
sort of.
Speaker 7 (01:26:31):
Yeah, the firearm training is really interesting. I'm not listen.
Speaker 11 (01:26:35):
I think if you're going to work with guns, you
should know what you're doing. And we try our best.
It's not always perfect. There are some YouTube shows that
like Grill are gun handling, which is kind of embarrassing,
but you know, we do our best. And having the
opportunity to really feel the gravity of a firearm and
what that means and the power behind it, it's really helpful,
and I appreciate the marksman aspect of how physical it
(01:26:56):
is to actually like get on target. That's always really fun.
And I appreciate anything that gets me into my body
like that. So I like that part a lot.
Speaker 7 (01:27:04):
And we have Oh you know what we did once
we did the LAPD uses us.
Speaker 11 (01:27:07):
Now they use virtual training, So it's these crazy VR
sets in this massive gymnasium and then they have some
people who aren't linked in and they play real people outside.
Oh wow, you have to simulate a hostage situation or
something like that, and what's wild is that it has
the same Your brain doesn't know the difference you're experiencing it,
(01:27:28):
so you lock in these certain types of ways that
you should navigate a situation. And I even had it
payoff in a scene later, Like there was a scene
coming up and they were telling me to do something
and I'm like, hold on, this is reminding.
Speaker 7 (01:27:38):
Me of a thing that we did with the LAPD
and this is not correct. So it's that was fascinating.
Speaker 1 (01:27:44):
Yeah, right, The teck is crazy. And have you done
Rodlongs in La with the LAPD? I have mus oh, we.
Speaker 11 (01:27:50):
Tried to do it last year and some stuff really
hit the fan with the LAPD and they like abruptly
canceled it at the last second. But the neat thing
was that at the beginning of the season purposefully split
us up, so all the tos only hung out with
the toos, all the rookies only hung out with the rookies,
and the rookies did not get to do the same
training as the tos, so they had a completely different
(01:28:10):
set of previous experience coming in than we did, and
we legitimately felt like rookies and they had a whole
other set of experiences that we didn't.
Speaker 1 (01:28:18):
So Okay, Well, fingers cross for the police New Zealand Police,
verre a long. Maybe there's a bank chase or something,
Oh my god, or pretty to be someone doing one ten. Yeah.
Speaker 11 (01:28:29):
What I have heard is whenever there's a ride along
and there's an actor or an actress, they go in
the super nice area where everything is cheating.
Speaker 1 (01:28:38):
Yeah, darling, Oh somebody's hedges wonky, Yes, exactly. Well, you
can go along to Armageddon Expo this weekend. It's happening
at the Auckland Showgrounds. You can go to armageddonexpo, dot
com and TV and sid plus to check out the
rookie Melissa. Thanks so much for coming on.
Speaker 7 (01:28:55):
Thank you so much for having thank you for skipping school.
Speaker 1 (01:28:57):
Ladies have an amazing time.
Speaker 2 (01:28:59):
And you see one thank you play z m's flesh
Fornon Hayley the.
Speaker 1 (01:29:03):
New Plumouth couple that won fourteen and a half million
dollars on Powerball. Oh that's so much. The powerball the
thing that clinches. Yeah, the fourteen million is their favorite number.
They play their favorite number as the powerball because I
always just get, like when I do buy a lot
of tickets when there's a big draw, I just get
the random ones, the automatically generated ones. So she describes
(01:29:29):
it as ready online that powerball and then won and
logged in because it was online to check your ticket,
and if you've ever sat through, I always just go
exit draw and it tells you if you want to
and sometimes I think I click exit drawing. I'm like, fine,
you don't want anything, because in my mind that's how
Loto works. Altho. Way, No, Dick does, definitely not how
it works.
Speaker 11 (01:29:43):
No.
Speaker 1 (01:29:44):
She logged into check it and she was like one number, ah,
two numbers. Oh, she started cheering more and more, four
or five sex got all sex, and then she was like,
oh my god because all of the powerballs were five
because it's your favorite number. Yeah, five, there was. That's
the difference between them winning a share of what a
meal or something? Yeah, and winning the Vision as a
(01:30:04):
meal and then powers fourteen. So yeah, it was a
thirteen and a half million dollar number basically, and it
was five because it's her favorite number. Yep, that's outrageous.
I don't think of my fa I don't know. I
just always used twenty three because it's the day I
was born, right, But I was twenty three because it's
a big sports number. It's been worn. Michael Jordan, Yeah, everyone,
I've had twenty three. Yeah, so we did a cookie
(01:30:26):
little pole. Do you have a lucky number that you
used for everything? Ah? But maybe my lucky number needs
to be one to ten because there's not a lot
of mind seven Yeah, seven and a three before I
start going into double dit j though, why those numbers.
I just always liked seven because the three is like
one of those ones you always see things in threes. Yeah,
(01:30:47):
thing's happened in threes. Threes like a magic number. Face
is my lucky number? Thirteen even got a tattooed on me.
If there's no thirteen, I'll go with number seven because
and she said, by the way, I'm old, So thirteen
has nothing to do with Taylor Swift. You ask love that.
Hayley says, nothing but number three. Okay. Laura says, it's
got to be seven. That's your best number. My favorite
(01:31:09):
number is fifteen. And if license plate's equal fifteen, I
get so jazzed. I do this too. If you're following
a car for a long time, you play that maths
game where you put symbols in between them until it
adds up to the number you want. No, I've never
even done that in my life. Like I'll explain it
to you, don't. I don't think you're getting how fun
it is. I don't think it's let's time, say, okay,
(01:31:30):
number P N G, P and G. Yeah. I just
made that up. No, I prefer it. On the old cars,
there was only two. So let's go ok s, and
then you and then let's say it was four, six, seven,
eight yep. And then you're like, you peck a number
and you've got to somehow make that the number so
you could be your favorite number, okay, which is do
you said twenty three? Yeah, so four times six is
(01:31:52):
twenty four, so it's not there, No, twenty four plus
seven minus seven, and then the word either way seven.
That's okay. That one's a fun game. It's a fun game. Okay,
great May twenty three, fantastic. See fun game. So Soper
knows what I'm talking about. Other people's favorite numbers. I
usually pick thirteen. I don't believe it's a curse number. Also,
(01:32:13):
it's my wedding anniversary date is my wife and I
got married on Friday the thirteenth from Lovely eleven. I
even have eleven eleven tattooed on my back, says Klobe. Yep.
Sixty six the weight category we wrestling, and kg's the
jersey number for high school football. The year of my
dad's race car nineteen sixty six, and the month and
day of my mother's passing, the sixth of June. Oh wow,
(01:32:36):
weird to have a favorite number, Assad, I mean maybe
it was your favorite number before that. Yeah, so happened
to be that I gave you. See, the first two
kids were born on the eighth day of the month,
and my third I went into labor on the eighth,
but had her on the ninth of the eighth, eighth eight,
very prevalent in our family. This is when you know
when there's a big lotto and division one and like
(01:32:57):
ten people win it. But it's because the numbers four
within like popular birthdays, yes, and months. Everyone's just using
their birthdays and months and now one Wednesday money one
to twelve right because of the months and one to
thirty one. Yeah, the possible dates are always like the
most popular ones. My lucky number is the date I
was born, also corresponds with the number the first letter
(01:33:18):
of my name is in the alphabet. Okay. I saw
some head hunters going on a run yesterday. Oh okay,
the gang, the gang head hunters. I was like, good
on you look on your straa. That just reminded me,
probably because you don't want to get you get. One
of them was motoring. Oh really yeah, and he had
a big eight eight on his back because H is
(01:33:38):
the eighth letter of the alphabet. So okay, this stands
for h. It's head hunters. Well that's great because sixteen
it's my favorite number, and eight plus eight sixteen. See
how much that game is See whether your following up
or a.
Speaker 2 (01:33:50):
Head Hunter does that m podcast needwork Hoyle.
Speaker 1 (01:33:53):
You way today, but she'll be back with us tomorrow.
George is in.
Speaker 7 (01:33:57):
She just hovers around and never No, that's gream.
Speaker 1 (01:34:00):
We love Georgia in studio. Now we don't know Georgia
out of studio though. Why we love Georgia out of it?
Give me to yes, both an out of studios? Okay?
Why so many highly intelligent people have the same favorite color?
(01:34:22):
This is why you got me in. Yes, I reckon
it's going to be blue. But I have my favorite
colors green, blue. It is blue. What's your favorite color?
Speaker 11 (01:34:29):
Well?
Speaker 7 (01:34:29):
Why your favorite color is blue?
Speaker 3 (01:34:31):
And I wouldn't say you're highly intelligent?
Speaker 1 (01:34:35):
Wow, Burn Burn, I mean not wrong. I'm not saying
I'm highly intelligent in Georgia. I didn't go out there,
and I'm not you know, but do you know what
directly opposite blue? What on the color wheel? Brown? Orange? Orange? George.
So there's no actual solid scientific evidence, but there they've
(01:34:59):
done a lot of studies and most highly intallegent people
and obviously intelligent but boring, maybe most highly intelligent people
their favorite color is blue.
Speaker 11 (01:35:08):
It's because it's the first color that comes to your
friend's mind when they think of a color, right, Like,
as soon as I think of a color, it's blue.
Speaker 1 (01:35:15):
Oh that's interesting. That's an interesting right. What's the first
color you think of when I say color blue?
Speaker 3 (01:35:22):
Hands down?
Speaker 1 (01:35:23):
Is that your favorite color?
Speaker 11 (01:35:24):
No?
Speaker 7 (01:35:25):
Influt asking your favorite color? It's obviously orange?
Speaker 1 (01:35:27):
Okay, clear, clear, clear? Think of a color? Purple? Mine
was purple? Do it went yellow? What? Nine? Sex? Nine sex?
Speaker 8 (01:35:39):
Do that?
Speaker 1 (01:35:40):
Don't mind? And then I'll see you think of a
color and you nine sex and sex? Color? Did you think? Okay,
here's what this means, Georgia. If someone's favorite color is
orange and indicates and this is totally Georgia, a warm, optimistic,
and highly energetic personality. Isn't that Georgia. Isn't that just Georgia?
Speaker 8 (01:35:58):
Bur it is me?
Speaker 7 (01:36:00):
Yeah, oh my gosh, I think you're going to give me.
Speaker 3 (01:36:02):
A full flip roasting.
Speaker 1 (01:36:03):
And I was not because I'm nice. I'm like you
called me dumb. That's a cabbage. We're doing to what
other people's favorite color? Yellow? Heirstmas yellow.
Speaker 7 (01:36:19):
That's my second favorite.
Speaker 1 (01:36:21):
If someone's favorite color is yellow, it often indicates a
personality that's optimistic, creative, cheerful, and intellectually curious.
Speaker 7 (01:36:28):
Yeah, see, I'm not orange's.
Speaker 1 (01:36:31):
Curious, she's color curious. What about green will be? What
do you reckon? Green? Will say? Green? Nature signifies a grounded, practical,
and nurturing personality with a deep love for nature and
desire for balance. That's me, That's I don't know if
that's nature that someone's going to ask me to do read,
(01:36:53):
aren't they?
Speaker 5 (01:36:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:36:57):
A bold personality, energetic, passionate, and action oriented. Oh that
could be good or bad. Anyone's what your favorite color be? Pink?
I think she's told us No, I think she'd be
fluor o pink. I think she'd be No, she'd probably
(01:37:19):
be like a green or blue. We'll last tomorrow. This
can be the break tomorrow with you, Georgia, when.
Speaker 7 (01:37:27):
I'm not here tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (01:37:28):
