Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the Zedium Podcast Network, it's Fletchborn and Hayley's Little Bit.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Of Pod.

Speaker 3 (00:07):
Welcome to A Little Bit of Pod. Now, I got
a message recently.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
It was at the weekend from my neighbor. Hey, bro,
just popping over to get some lemons. This is like
at 8.30 at night, by the way.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Oh, okay. I'm just like, okay.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
By the way, my mom's lemon tree, Bev, her lemon
and lime. None of that scabby stuff that you've got.
I'm sorry, my limes are phenomenal.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
The scabs don't matter. The lemons that I have are shameful.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Yeah, but mum's lemon tree looks like you've got them
from the supermarket.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
That waxy, that waxy. We're also a different breed of lemon.
She might have a Maya's lemon. Google a Maya's lemon. Look,
I'm just saying. They're the bright yellow waxy ones. The
lemony lemons. I'm going to plant a Maya's. We've got
some manky lemons. They're still juicy. They're still delicious.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
It's what's on the inside, guys. Guys, it's what's on
the inside that counts. So he says, I'm popping over.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
To get some lemons. You are beautiful no matter if
you've got a waxy skin. If you want some oysters,
let me know. Fresh as? What?

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Hang on a sec. What?

Speaker 1 (01:08):
And I said, the only ones left in the tree
are really high. I've got some picked. Come to the
door and you can have some lemons.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
Sweet as?

Speaker 1 (01:14):
And he's like, do you want some of these oysters?
I was like, no, we've just eaten.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
No!

Speaker 3 (01:18):
You said no to fresh oysters.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Well, you don't know how long.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
So then he gets over.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
He gets over. And I say.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Where'd you get your oysters from? He's like, oh, it's
just on the way home from work.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
And I sort of sign. Oh, no. I'm not eating those. No, sorry.
Wait till you hear the next part. I thought the
man's out bloody swimming for these. No, no, no, no, no, no.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
And he said it was 50 oysters for $ 50.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Ding, ding. Red flag. Okay, that's a red flag. Because
I love a deal, but that's too cheap. Also, I
don't want 50 of them.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
So.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
Well, they were a dollar each, basically. That's a good price.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
And he said, I don't eat oysters, but I also
don't know how many oysters you buy. So we'd bought
his partner 50 oysters. And then I got a message
from her, do you sure you don't want some of
these oysters? Because I'm not going to be able to
eat 50.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
It's not good for you. I said, no, it's probably not.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
No.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
After maybe 18. Okay. No, I'd do 12 on my own.
And then I'd be like, oh, yeah. And then maybe
someone hasn't done these. I have a couple more. And
then you're like, oh. Yeah, you're pushing it, right? Sloppy
plops the next day.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
I ate 24 oysters because I accidentally ordered.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Two dozen.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Two dozen instead of like a dozen. This was in
South Africa in December. So they were basically like a
dollar each.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
So it was fine.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Yeah, but they weren't off the side of the road. No, no,
they weren't. How was your guts? I'm an entrepreneurial person
selling on the side of the road, but I'm not.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
Yeah, good, but I was full. I'll tell you that much.
And I was like, I'm not leaving them because I've paid. Oh, God, no.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
And they're oysters. Good boy.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
And I'll tell you what, it was very hard by
the last three or four months.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
12's the perfect number. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
From a van on the side of the road? Where
did he get them?

Speaker 1 (02:56):
A van.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
I believe on a van on the side of the road.
But they were like the same day situation. Again, I'm not.
Because I had a very bad experience, Hayley. Who's vetting these?
In 2004, we were sent. Fletcher, you get hit by
an orc's cord.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
We were sent some promotional oysters from Shock Records to
promote the 2004 release of Australian Man Eskimo's Joe's Song.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
From the Sea. Because, of course, oysters are from the sea.
I believe I have a vague memory of this. We've
told this story, yeah. Where it was delivered to work.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
We've told this story, yeah, in a polystyrene container on ice.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
Looked all good. Smelt good. Smelt good. I have never
been so violently ill in my life.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
Every time I hear this song, I just think about
being bedridden all weekend, just vomiting.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
And thankfully, because I was from Taranaki and I was
very uncultured, and hadn't even tried oysters or liked the
smell of them or the look of them.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
Oh, you weren't an oyster man yet. He passed. He
wasn't an oyster man yet. He hadn't refined his palate.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
It wasn't until I went to a restaurant that was
free through work that I had them, and I liked them.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
I love that. Wait, so you did your brother a
solid and ate his oysters as well?

Speaker 2 (04:02):
I think you ate most people in the office. Most
people in the office are like, no thanks. Oh, dude.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
Me and two other people.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
Hooned this massive thing of oysters.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
And all of us were so... violently, violently ill.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
They must have just been sitting at the record company
office for like a couple of days or.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Not in the fridge properly.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
And that's why I'm just like, I can't... I'll go,
I'll eat them in a restaurant. I'll eat them when
I see them be shocked. I'm not eating roadside oysters
that you got for $ 50 for 50 of them.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
If we're all out to get in these oysters on
the menu, we're getting oysters. We're always getting oysters. So
I also love his... I just didn't know how many
to buy, so I bought 50. 50?

Speaker 1 (04:40):
I said 50 of anything's a lot.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
50 nuggets is a lot. You hear the term like
a dozen oysters all the time. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh God,
maybe check on his wife. Yeah, I'm going to check
in with her.
