Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Hurdache Breakfast. Get your insulation job sorted with Bunning's trade.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Jerry and the Naya the Hurdarchy Breakfast.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
Welcome along to the Hurdarche Breakfast is Monday day, fifteenth
of June twenty twenty six.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
My name's Jumy wells Is and I Stewart just extending
my microphone into stand up position. We're gonna need a
little extra energy. This morning's the depths of winter, isn't it, Fellas.
You can really feel it this morning going through the motorway,
I could see about six feet in front of me. Yeah,
and I got right up the backside of the car
that was in front of me on the motorway cop car,
did you Yeah? Not no contact, no context, strict, no context,

(00:37):
but I for sure he would have looked at me
or shit the review Merry going what's this person's problem?
I just backed off this person's tail, getting me why
is this person talk?

Speaker 4 (00:48):
What?

Speaker 3 (00:48):
It's flashing the lights hog in the horns.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
I was like, you know, you're coming in from out west.
It's been a big weekend probably on the glass barbecue. Yeah,
it's still cracking and I'm.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Not sure whether the swift's got a waft or so.
I just backed up off that thing and it was like,
you know what, carry on your day, officer.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Can you be pulled over for no dipstick? The swift's
got no dipstick. You can tell it's a hazard.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
If your kid, I should be oil could leak out
the top. Yeah, there's one.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
You don't want to overtake or tailgate a police vehicle.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
No where possible. I was once in a car that
crashed into a police vehicle. What's up with filling up
the next break already?

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Jerry and Mania the hold ikey breakfast?

Speaker 1 (01:30):
So and I get up the ass of a cop
car this morning? No contact though, Mania, No no contact,
no content.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
I mean, it's not like I'm trading painted with cars
on the motorway and work well.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
In a foggy situation, you might be cruising along and saying,
you know, in fact, fog bomb, there's a whole lot
of cars stopped.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
I did what Yeah, well I did wonder why they
were going so slow on the motorway. I was flashing
the lights on in the horn yep, trying to give
them a hurry up. Ah yeah, get out of the
fast lane. If you're not going to go fast.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Well, I've gone in a vehicle. I've been in a
vehicle that's gone up the ass of a cop car. Literally, Yeah,
so figuratively we had been actually myself, well went up
the ass depends on what you call. If we're just
referring to the ass of a cop car. Yeahs, go
up the ass. Certainly it bend into the didn't penetrate.

(02:19):
So we were on our way back from I don't
know if you have remembered these parties at least be
called the Titanic parties. And friend of mine, Matt Nichols,
used to put them on and it was a dance
party on a boat and you'd go out there DJs
and you go around the Auckland Harbor on this boat.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
It was a lot of fun and then do they
scuttle the boat at the end of it.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
I remember they there was a big event. There'd be
like one a year or something like that. And we've
been out on the high on the hog there on
the cruising around in the harbor. The old Habo would
have played some tunes. It was with the old Hebu
I'm talking. I'm talking nineteen ninety eight, nineteen ninety eight, pre.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
Social media, pre social media anything.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
Some people were videoing it turns out because I've seen
some video of one of those recently. Anyway, we're coming
back from that. We've got off the boat and we're
run our way back to the clubs, to the nightclubs.
The old have has been working, so it hasn't been
drinking and and so we're on the way up to
the nightclubs up on k Rider's probably.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
One thirty maybe in the morning.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
We're on Pitt Street and we're chatting away, having a
great convas, having a great time, and then.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
Just bomb but womba.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
The driver of the vehicle, being the old Habo, had
forgotten that he was didn't have a foot on the
brake and straight into the back of a car which
was in front of us, parked waiting to turn the
left onto Pitt Street. Sorry onto k rode from Pitt Street, right,
can you picture me?

Speaker 3 (03:50):
Yes? And outside the calendar.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
Bomb and the car just went bomb and everyone went ooh.
And then and then I looked a hit at the
car that we had struck and just turned out to
be a police car. Of all the cars that you
were hit, it was a police car. And at that
point the driver of the police car, a police person yep,
got out, came around and the old have wound down

(04:15):
the window. Oh, sorry about that, Sorry about that. And
the cop goes, what the hell are you doing? And
he goes, sorry, I just I was just drifting off
there briefly and wasn't concentrating. I thought you were going
to go, and then you didn't go, and then my apologies,
my apologies. He sort of just charmed his way around it.
And then the cop cop goes had a look at

(04:36):
their car and there was no real damage.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
And then he goes like, mane, just be a bit
more careful, will you.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Of all the cars that you get police cars, not
a good luck got under the car, drove off.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
We then drove off as well, drove off to.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
The nightclub on the cop just yeah, no harm, no foul.
Did he recognize Heavo from the TV? Maybe? Ah, yeah,
you Heavo from the Maybe I don't I remember that.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
I don't remember exactly the age or stage of the
of the police officer myself.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
I can't really remember that details. Was that before breath
testers had been invented? Like, no, you would.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Think that that was the first thing they did, but
I mean if they had, if he would have been
under the limit, I guess we'll never know.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Jerry and Midnight the hold Ikey Breakfast see.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
The Warriors on the weekend, Fellas Saturday Night absolutely duted
by the refs. So we'll get into that in a second.
Stop us if you've heard this one before on a
Monday morning, but the Warriors were douneed by the rest.
Just before we get into that, though, a longtime friend
of this show, Tennis Dows Smith, was asked to do
a massive job this weekend because starting props are out,

(05:45):
James Fisher Harris has got a calf injury, I believe,
and Mitch Bunnett's a way on state of origin duties
and so Tannistals or as you may know him, meaningful minutes.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
Meaningful minutes, loves doing meaningful minutes Tennis Tower Smith.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
Yeah. Now I know that Johnson's a big fan of
this show, certainly the station, and so he was. He
obviously must have chuned in because have a listened to
him discussing Tannisdale Smith ahead of the game.

Speaker 5 (06:08):
I get excited to see someone like Tennistal Smith contribute.
It's a real good opportunity for Tanner to really, I
guess take that next step.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
He's come through.

Speaker 5 (06:16):
He's been so impactful off the bench for us, so
classy after the mess like it's.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
Been meaningful minutes from a how good.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Holy crap, it's filtering through. Yeah, that's right, all that
all the simulation is not working.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Probably. Nah, Look we're not reported the news. We other
news with the tastemakers here and and that's starting to
I love it so final score in the end, eighteen
It was a bit of a blooder of a game.
Good defense, I would say, for a low scoring game,
and look did we fall victim to one of the

(06:52):
most miraculous chargedowns of all time into one of the
most miraculous field goals of all time. And then we
did have a chance to level the scores at the end,
we messed that kick. So yes, there were a few
things you could point to to say that that's why
we lost the game, but that's not as much fun
as blaming it on the reefs. And as Warriors fans,
we wouldn't be doing our jobs if we didn't blame
it on the reefs. And I think we've got clear

(07:13):
evidence this week haven't listened to this commentary from it
was a goal line dropout Shanell Harris Tavito was about
to take have listened to this and him talking to
the ref about how long he had to take it.

Speaker 6 (07:22):
Oh, I'm not responsible for that, mate, I've got a buzzer, Chanell.
I'm not responsible when the buzzer goes. The bunzer goes, mate,
he's not looking at the clock, but through different screen.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
It's not it's not away.

Speaker 6 (07:39):
That's their issue, not mine. If the buzzer goes and
you haven't kicked, you haven't kicked it.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
So what happened there was usually there is a timer
up on the screen. Chanell looks up. There's an ad
playing on the screen at Mount Smart which is a
little bit of a betrayal from the ground staff. But anyway,
he looks up and he goes, I can't see the timer.
He goes to the riff. How long have I got
to kick this? The reef clearly said five seconds. Two
seconds later the buzzer goes off. Yeah. She now goes, well,
what the hell you told me five seconds that? He goes, well,

(08:05):
I got no control over that. It's got nothing to
do with me. It's the guy who runs the buzzer. Meanwhile,
about three minutes later there was a scrum that wasn't
packed in time. The same thing happened. There was a
penalty against us. Who was on that buzzer.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
Yeah, that's why that should be a home buzzer, ya
a home person.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
We should make sure that that's up on the screen. Yeah,
that was a little bit effie, But I mean, just
what else does he have to go off if not
the referee? He asked the referee yep.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
So he was just trying to milk it and he
ended up kind of being caught over milka.

Speaker 3 (08:35):
Well, no, because this is the annoying thing. If he
was trying to milk it, you would understand. But he wasn't.
He was just genuinely asking the riff, well, when do
I have to kick this? It wasn't like he You know,
players sometimes bend over and tie the shoelacers they can't
find the ball, they'd dribble it, you know, they they
roll it along the ground or something that they pretend
to talk to someone. He wasn't doing that. He was
talking to the riff. How long have I got? Riff
goes five sickonds he goes, sweet kicked it two seconds later,

(08:58):
so it's not even like he was trying to on
the clock out and as he kicked it as the
buzzer went off. So yeah, we were absolutely done it.
They get a penalty for that right out in front
of the thing. They scored the two points. How much
they went by two? You do the math on that
two points.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
It was always gonna be one of those games. And
we did talk about this on Friday. I had a
funny feeling about that one. Yeah, coming off coming off
a bye yeah, and we for some reason we struggle
a little bit off a buy.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
I don't know what. It is a lot of Andrewes
and for some reason, the Sharks are our bogie team
at the moment. It seems I'm not the only one
annoyed about it. We was passed off. And he doesn't
often do this in the press conference, but he had
had a bit to say about it.

Speaker 7 (09:36):
Chanelle says to the referee, there's an adversement on the screen.
He says, ref palmva God, I can't see the clock.
He says, you got five seconds. He kicks it in
two and as he's kicking at the siren, goes off,
blows his whistle because a penalty two points straight in front.
They question and he says, not my fault when you
ask the question because you can't see it on the clock,
and the responses you got five seconds and you kick

(09:58):
it in two. I never that's embarrassing.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Yeah, it is embarrassing. He's being on about that. So
no doubt the NRAL will apologize. And so, yeah, that
was an unfortunate situation.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
But that's the way it goes yep, And that is
the way it goes. Another I'm sure unrelated news. One
of the NRL rift has come out here has four
hundred thousand dollars in gambling debt. NRL's known about it
seven years. Do your own research into that.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
I don't jury and the night the hold, I keep breakfast.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
Timely about the sport headline thanks to export Ultra. The
b for here generally lead curse our for one with
fifteen minutes to play in their feet for World Cup
opener and Houston.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
If I give you one thousand dollars and a printed
out map, could you point to curse ol No, But
I'm feeling I Caribbean. I'm thinking South America, South America somewhere.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
No, I don't know where curs O is, but just
looking at looking at how it spelt, I mean I
think I'm in the continent.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
I think we're goned here sort of northern South America
into the Caribbean. Yeah, definitely not southern South America. Okay, Well,
if I swear my finger across the map in such
a way, I could probably cover a part that might
have croso in it. Anywah, they were won or when
I came in, Zoe was freaking out of it. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
The two sized traded goals in the first quarter of
the match before the Germans took the lead seven minutes
before halftime. They to meet Japan and Dallas from eight o'clock.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
So I's got a hands on her heade you thought
they might have They might have just rattled the crossbar.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
Lewis Hamilton has turned back the clock with an emotional
victory at the Bathlona Cataluna Formula One Grand Prix. The
forty one year old has claimed his first Grand Prix
in two years, and the first since switching to Ferrari
at the start of twenty twenty five. It also makes
him the oldest IF One winner since nineteen seventy Hili
Liam Lawson claimed night after moving up the standings late

(11:52):
after Antonelli's engine failure.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
Weld Charles Leclerk was also forced out. I'm aging at
the moment through your favorite athletes retiring at your age
period of my life, you know what I mean. Where
it's like here here comes the oldest player in league history,
and it's like, beauty's my age. God damn it. I'm
starting to wonder if I will make the Warriors next season,

(12:15):
thinking maybe not.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
And the entire city of New York has been celebrating
after the next sealed their first title in basketball the
NBA for fifty three years.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
That was incredible.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
I watched ninety four ninety was the game scame five
when in San Antonio wrapped up before one series triumph
over the Spurs.

Speaker 3 (12:31):
Next and five, and they're burning the city to the ground.
New York has turned into Gotham City, and some of
the footage that's come out, I was just having a
good old doom scroll for about an hour last night
as Germany evidently scored another goal that and b shit,
I was watching all the footage on my iPod phone
last night. They are burning school buses. They are swinging
off the bloody traffic lights.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
I'll tell you what they love. They love throwing a bin.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
They love throwing a bit, they love throwing a burn.
In New York, Man, they're throwing some burns. They are.
But they weren't even in New York when that when
they won in San Antonio. So the fans back home
are going absolutely crazy. We'll talk about it later on,
but it's insane positive bin throwing, that's how I describe it. Yeah,
happy bin throw, Yeah, shiny, happy bin throwing. Not happy
to see a happy bim throw. It's not happy, right, yeah,

(13:16):
but it's rioting nonetheless. Up next, let's talk about when
you can take a secon day on the weekend.

Speaker 8 (13:23):
Jerry and mid Night The Hodiarchy Breakfast, a bespoke podcast,
went up in a record times six thirteen this morning.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
That's two minutes faster than Ryan Bridge, making us again
the fastest podcast to be uploaded and in the world,
the first podcast to see the sun, first podcast to
see the sun. And we can claim that today, first
bar of the cherry, first bart of the chair. You
can go and listen to that whenever you please. And
on that There is a full chronology of our Friday
night where I told Ruder he was playing at the
bar that I was going to. If I'm still there

(13:50):
at eight o'clock by the time you start, something's gone
drastically wrong. Well, it went wrong and can continue to
go wrong. Saders last and then buried my sorrows. Blah
blah blah. All that to say that now in my dotage,
at the ripe old age of thirty four, I can
still pass up, but I can't back up. I got
a head cold immediately from being up at you know
five in the morning to you know, going deep into

(14:11):
the night in the middle of winter. I just wait,
that is the reason people wake it up with a
head cold now and so, but what's so frustrating about
that is that anything worse than being sick across the weekend.
Because I'm still sniffly this morning, but I feel fine
all weekend, just knocked out. I couldn't do anything. Can
you take a sick day on your weekend? Now?

Speaker 1 (14:32):
I feel like I've investigated this before.

Speaker 3 (14:35):
Yeah, yeah, and I remember.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
And the person who I would go to in these
situations always is Hillary Barry. She she knows employment law
inside out. She really does. She's been around for a
long time, she's wise, not that long. She will read stuff.
She wants to know something about something.

Speaker 3 (14:54):
She will investigate deeply.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
Yes, you know, any kind of situation, she's immediately, that's
the journalist on it. She's still in there, investigators, still
in there, and she will, she'll be on She'll be googling,
She'll be she will, she will find answers.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
And then speak truth to power. Yeah, that's what I said. Truth.
I'm pretty sure.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
Now, unless I have conflated this with with getting sick while.

Speaker 3 (15:19):
You are on leave. Oh okay, okay, I think.

Speaker 1 (15:22):
A weekend maybe is the weekend and so you you
weren't paid for the weekend anyway. However, if you get
sick whilst on leave, even if Christmas holidays right, and
you were sick and you were you couldn't work because
you were sick, I think in theory, and this is
just what I remember secondhand, you can then claim that

(15:43):
day back.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
That makes sense to me, because you're burning a day's
leave and saying I'm going to take this paid holiday instead,
but I am actually not fit for work.

Speaker 1 (15:52):
But I mean, it's ridiculous because you would have been
not at work anyway.

Speaker 3 (15:57):
But I couldn't even if I was that, I couldn't have.
So I think, I mean, all you were doing is
exchanging one day's annual leave for one day's sick leave.
That's basically all you're doing. Well, exactly exactly, that's that's
precisely and sort of six of one, half a dozen
the other.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
But it is good, I mean because the sect leave,
of course, you can't take with you and you don't
get paid out for if you leave, then you do
get paid out for your annual leave, whereas secondly, but
the second leaf does carry over at my work anyway,
tv Z. We don't get sick leave here at me,
but well I don't, I think you might.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
I don't.

Speaker 1 (16:32):
But at TV and Z it carries over the next year, yes,
and then it keeps carrying over. And actually I was
talking to one of the guys at TV and Z
just the other day, Nigel, who nineteen lovely guy's been
working there since nineteen ninety six, about a year before.

Speaker 3 (16:49):
I was there.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
Three hundred and sixty two sick days he has owing.

Speaker 3 (16:54):
He is due a year long eldest three one hundred
and sixty two.

Speaker 9 (16:59):
You don't want to. I want to wish a year longer.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
But Nigel, there's someone who could absorb.

Speaker 8 (17:04):
It, Jerry and then the hot Ikey breakfast.

Speaker 3 (17:08):
We're just talking about whether you are within your rights
to take a sick day on the weekend or potentially
on holiday on the weekend. Probably not, unfortunately for me.
But Paul has taxed her on three foray three can
confirm got sick during the Christmas holidays and swapped out
five holidays for six days. There we go. It makes sense.
Why should you have to burn a day's and you'll
leave when you were sick. You couldn't have worked that

(17:29):
day anyway. I like this from Paul though. Five sick days, Yeah,
right between Christmas Day and New Year's Eve.

Speaker 1 (17:36):
Five sick days. I don't know when was the last
time we want took five six days? Anyone ever taken
five sick days here?

Speaker 3 (17:41):
I don't know when the last time was, but I
could tell you when the next time. I'm going to
take the Hey.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
I was reading over the weekend about some guys in China.
So there's a part of China called Hubei, and there
were three dudes and they've been drinking and they thought,
we've got to get home. We've got our car there,
but we know that were not meant to be drink
driving overserved. So instead of turning on the car and
driving home drunk, which obviously is a no no, one

(18:07):
man sat inside the car and steared while the other
two pushed the vehicle down the road. Now they were
They moved the car about five hundred minutes, so they
went half a car.

Speaker 3 (18:18):
That's quite a long way.

Speaker 1 (18:20):
I assume it wasn't it must have been on a
slight downslope.

Speaker 3 (18:24):
Yeah, that I got up. Hell.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
So they ended up stopping there at peer shop. So
they they were then pulled over by police. But interestingly,
they weren't cited for driving under the influence.

Speaker 3 (18:37):
Okay, that's interesting because I feel like their laws must
be different because in our country, if you hop in
a car and you've got the keys, I guess if
you put the keys in the ignition, then you're done.

Speaker 9 (18:47):
And intend to drive a thing, it's called yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
Yeah, yeah, I think that makes sense. Because the other
thing is if sometimes people avoid checkpoints, don't they by
pulling down a driveway and then turning off the car,
and then the situation the police can then say, hold
on you you know you are still in the vehicle
or you still have some kind of connection to this vehicle.

Speaker 3 (19:06):
I am. I'm gonna try and tiptoe around this so
as not to identify the person. But I was once
drinking in a pub that was across the road from
a police station. If you know anything about my history,
you will know exactly which pub this was. And one
of the police officers was sitting in the pub with
us and watched a maid of mine go up to
the counter and go, ah, guys, catch you guys up later.

(19:27):
I'll see his later. And I remember looking at the
cop and the cop gud, surely not. As he pulls
his keys out of his pocket. The cop, cause you
jack at me, gets up from the table walks off.
As this guy walks out, goes and sits in his car,
puts the keys in the thing, and then the cop
bangs on the hood is like, we don't what are
you doing? Oh God? So then booked them for drink driving,

(19:51):
did the breath test, then said hey, if you want
to bring your blood alcohol that sometimes running laps can
bring it down, and so made him run laps of
the police car park. It doesn't good. But everyone in
the pub can see and running laps of the police that.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
That's just the idiot tex that that guy should have paid.
So the question is, so what is it in terms
of if you're in New Zealand, what can you and
what can't you do operating vehicles? So it's obviously it's
legal to ride a bike while drunk.

Speaker 3 (20:23):
Okay, so that's fine.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
You can't be charged with drink driving if you do that, yeah,
the the but the problem is you can be charged
kereless or reckless riding.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
Yeah, okay, Well, classicle.

Speaker 1 (20:35):
Is still considered a vehicle even if it's not a
motor vehicle. So you can be fine in charge if
you ride carelessly, reconcil without consideration for other road users.
So I assume that if you are if you if
you've been overserved and you're riding, but you're riding in
a responsible manner, you're sweet.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
You'll probably be fine.

Speaker 10 (20:50):
I think.

Speaker 3 (20:50):
I think another one that's fine is the mobility scooters.
And that's what I think you'll see the old fellow's
driving to and from the town and country club and
they are little mobility scooters. Is because you can't drive
a car home, but you can get in one of
those things.

Speaker 1 (21:01):
And I think there's an exception for e bikes. If
your bike's equipped with an electric or petrol motor, then
the rules change.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
Then you're in charge of a motor.

Speaker 1 (21:08):
Yeah, that's an issue, But low powder e bikes, like
under three hundred watts, they are exempt.

Speaker 3 (21:13):
Can I just ask one more thing? Isn't there something
around a horse because it's got its own brain that
you can't be done dic on a horse. I don't
know that. I don't want anyone to come out mere
and be like, oh good done. I see on my
horse this week and you said it was sweet. I
can't verify that. But apparently because it's got its own brain. Well,
then the issue is what if the horses trick.

Speaker 2 (21:35):
Jerry and Mania the Hodarchy breakfast.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
Jeremy Wells and the Nias Stewart the Hodarchy Breakfast, the
two absolute blowouts in the Super Abu, simis over, the
weekend predictable and the season's over for the Blues and
the Crusaders. This means that the Hurricanes will host the
Chiefs and Wellington on Saturday night.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
The odds have already been released for that final. This
is interesting.

Speaker 1 (21:59):
Ther knees paying a dollar fifty the chiefs two dollars
isn't that interesting? So to tell us who he thinks
it's going to win? Skysport commentator disgraced Former Highlander Joe Wheeler.

Speaker 3 (22:10):
Did you hear that text before?

Speaker 4 (22:12):
Joe?

Speaker 1 (22:12):
So someone said that they saw you on at field
Days last week and called you disgraced former Highlander. You
immediately looked and thought, I know how I know them exactly.

Speaker 4 (22:21):
Yeah, the amount of comments I got just walking past disgrace.
I really enjoying it the public nothing better. Finally, only
after a year, jeary, you finally gets the stand to
get some tractions. Got you got traction at the top

(22:42):
of the South Island and Marlborough Thretty early doors. I
think I remember I reminded you when I turned up
to my MAT's wedding. I went to my my spot
for the for the dining ceremony and on the top
of the of the menu disgrace formerly doors. Yeah, it
done a really good tracks. If your Field Days getting

(23:02):
it called out, you know you're doing something.

Speaker 3 (23:05):
It's a good sign. All right, let's get it out
of the way. Joe, what the hell happens? To the
Crusaders on the weekend.

Speaker 4 (23:09):
Yeah, jeez, what the hell happened?

Speaker 11 (23:12):
All right?

Speaker 4 (23:13):
You know we talked about this last Monday. We're like,
this is the time that they come, right, you know,
the Cruise Dade Cruise Cruiser is on, And it didn't.
It just fell off the tracks big time and a big,
big way. That forty minutes would be one of the
worst I've ever seen from.

Speaker 3 (23:28):
A Crusaders heartbreaking the way that it happened to because
it was done by like with ten minutes left in
the first half, You're like, oh god, she's all over
Red Rover here. What happened?

Speaker 4 (23:41):
Oh no, I was gonna I was going to say.
It wasn't just the Crusaders were not that good. The
Chiefs were just on a tear, like they were just
on another level. Like damn McKenzie, the little master Man.
He turned up to play the short kicking game. The
variety in his kicking game was simply outstands and it
was kind of like one of those when the momentum

(24:04):
is in your favor, you just roll with it. And
everything that they touched just turned to gold.

Speaker 11 (24:08):
The little Lamb Coombs, Fabling, Chip and Chase like they
just couldn't put a foot wrong. And yeah, it was.
It was a complete forty minute that's for sure. And
I mean they only scored one try in the second half,
so you know, they even diliger the Crusaders.

Speaker 4 (24:23):
So the steak and the second half. But yeah, no,
I mean fire out. When you're forty two points down
at half time, it's going to be a tough ask.

Speaker 1 (24:30):
Yeah, okay, well let's get it out of the way.

Speaker 3 (24:32):
Joe. We what the hell happened to the blows they were?
I mean we're expecting, we're expecting.

Speaker 4 (24:37):
What the hell we're.

Speaker 3 (24:39):
Expecting them to turn up and compete.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
We're expecting a when next thing you know, they've been
beaten by thirty six points, or I would say, though,
beaten by less points than the Crusaders.

Speaker 3 (24:48):
The Crusaders beaten by thirty seventy points. The is beaten
by thirty six points.

Speaker 4 (24:54):
Yeah alone, shove wow. I think if you if you
clip off what I said last week, I think I
said you said, oh, look, the Blues are definitely a chance,
and I have said you they are awful, and they
lived up to that. I mean, admittedly the first half

(25:16):
they were, they were in it but again they got
two quick drives scored against them and at the start
of that second half, and then they just rolled over.
Jerry rolled over.

Speaker 3 (25:25):
That's what you do, the soft underbelts.

Speaker 4 (25:29):
In front of a quick bowl, opening the bedding.

Speaker 1 (25:32):
You're not willing to take it on the shed hold.
As I said before, beaten by thirty six points by
a bitter team, and and the Crusaders thrashed by thirty
seven points.

Speaker 11 (25:47):
So what we're trying to say is that you would
you would beat the Crusader, that your your Blues would
have beaten the Crusaders absolutely by one point.

Speaker 3 (25:54):
Get out of here, Get out of here. Let's look
ahead now, Hurricanes vers the Checks. As Jerry said, for Hurricanes'
favorites fifty, Chiefs two fifty, I feel like it should
be a little bit closer than that.

Speaker 4 (26:06):
Yeah, oh no, I'll do as well. A full final
for the Chiefs. Is it going to be four time lucky?

Speaker 11 (26:13):
The Canes, you know, they just keep sort of rolling on,
don't know. Their form is just super impable. Yeah, I agree.
I think I thought it might have been pretty split,
especially the way that they both performed in the theme final,
But I guess it just comes down to the fact
that the Canes have been white hot this season and
now so look, I can understand why the bookies have gone,

(26:33):
but I do think this is going to be an
absolute beauty of an armoryssle like it'll be a ding
dong affair, and both teams are playing the brand of
rugby that whereas New Zealand rugby fans love to watch
like they give the ball point in your ear they
chance there, they're having a tech first mindset, which is,

(26:53):
you know, it's refreshing and man, they play an awesome
brand of footy to watch and I just hope it
rolls on into the final it doesn't become like a
kick fist in a slug fist, which I don't think
it will because both teams have got that mindset of
Lieutenant crack.

Speaker 1 (27:08):
And the good news is that there's a twenty seven
k sorry twenty seven not northerly blowing on Saturday night,
so swirling wand yeah, so that's.

Speaker 4 (27:18):
Beautiful, that's just what we want.

Speaker 3 (27:20):
It's essentially a storm that's just moving it's way through.
There is a hurricane.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
There is a hurricane that's happening on Saturday night.

Speaker 3 (27:28):
Little hurricane. Given all of that, Joe, if we could
push it for prediction, how do you think it goes.

Speaker 11 (27:35):
I think there's going to be there'll be a trying
and I think the canes just through there, the air
attacking prowess.

Speaker 4 (27:42):
Will do it. Ten years. I like the story as well.
The storyline's nice. Ten years since the last title, ten
years since the last final Brat shields the Beautiful Man.

Speaker 11 (27:53):
He was the only bloke in that team that was
that was in that Hurricane squad when they last lifted
the title.

Speaker 4 (27:58):
So I think, yeah, it's some nice energies there. So yeah,
it's going to be fourth time unlucky. I thank you
for the Chiefs.

Speaker 11 (28:03):
Unfortunately for them.

Speaker 3 (28:04):
Oh jeez, okay, yeah I could not.

Speaker 4 (28:07):
I could not kill this as one of us, not
the Crusaders or the blows Boys.

Speaker 3 (28:14):
Thanks Jerry and the Night the Breakfast.

Speaker 1 (28:21):
I've got a moral question for the team.

Speaker 3 (28:23):
We've come to the wrong people.

Speaker 1 (28:26):
I've got a moral question for the team. At quarter
past seven Monday morning, you've.

Speaker 3 (28:30):
Come, you've come to your moral compass, then I assure
it this morning head road, don't I don't think you
find a two less qualified people for this. I reckon
you're going to be qualified for this.

Speaker 1 (28:41):
I mean, I don't think you qualified for much, but
I think that I've been broadcasting for some time.

Speaker 3 (28:46):
It's actually rich coming from you, who is the less
qualified person on the show.

Speaker 1 (28:50):
In this situation, I feel as a thirty year coming
up to a thirty year veteran broadcaster. I feel like
I've seen a few things, and I've been presented by
the number of conundrums over the years and navigated my way,
you know, either clumsily, yes, or just managed to get
through or with a plum or Sometimes you wouldn't even

(29:11):
know that I am navigating my way through it, but
I am. But in this situation, I saw something the
other day and I thought, this is a first.

Speaker 3 (29:17):
And it as a I need to talk around this.
I know, how do I know what? I know vaguely
what this is about. And I know that you're trying.
You're going to try very hard here not to try
and give enough detail to identify the person.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
I don't even know if I should be talking about
the song right now, but anyway, I just something happened
that I saw so the other day said someone was
presenting television.

Speaker 3 (29:40):
Let's just keep it super broad.

Speaker 1 (29:41):
Someone was presenting television and I just happened to be
in the control room at the same time as someone
was presenting television.

Speaker 3 (29:47):
That's not that broad. There's like twelve people who present television.
I've already marrowed it down.

Speaker 1 (29:51):
But anyway, there was a wardrobe malfunction that wasn't actually occurring,
but it had the potential to occur. That's the best
way to describe it. Okay, it was a wardrobe, a
very minor wardrobe malfunction, but it was in the lower half,
so it wasn't an upstairs malfunction.

Speaker 3 (30:11):
It was a potential.

Speaker 1 (30:12):
Lower malfunction and an involved pair of pants and what
you could see through those pants. And there was a
question that was asked of the people who were working
behind the scenes, if there is such a problem with
pants where you can see things through the pants.

Speaker 3 (30:33):
I'm just gonna say there was an impending camel toe.
Thank you. I'll say it.

Speaker 1 (30:37):
Thank you is the responsibility of the director in that
situation to point that out.

Speaker 3 (30:46):
And as a result, there was a discussion.

Speaker 1 (30:50):
That was had with the presenters that I was around,
and it was whether or not you sign a piece
of paper to say that it's a bit like a
no resuscitation order.

Speaker 3 (31:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (31:02):
So in the situation if there was a cameltoe, yeah,
let's just say there was, I would like to be made.

Speaker 3 (31:07):
Aware of that very much, or I would not, but
do not do not. I would not like to be
made aware of it. Do you want to be or
don't you want to I guess it comes down to it.
I have had it? Is it wrong too?

Speaker 1 (31:19):
That's the thing, because clearly that means that you've been
looking and if that's taken the wrong way.

Speaker 3 (31:24):
You've got a few issues here. One is are you
the right person to be telling them? Secondary if you
don't tell them, but you have told other people, Now
that's the whole thing, because what if that gets back
to this person, Well, this is everyone knew about it,
no one said anything.

Speaker 1 (31:38):
Yeah, what about in a live situation. Yeah, if you've
got a live camel tooe happening.

Speaker 3 (31:43):
I think you're better on you. In my mind, I'm
thinking you're better off not being part of the story.
I think you if you, if you see something, say nothing,
And just like, are you letting that person down? Knowing
that to happen? But everyone has turned your name is
not part of the story. Now as soon as you
inject yourself and saying one, two, can you hear me?
Believe we're just deploying a little bit of of the camera,

(32:04):
can we Is there anything we can do about that? Now?
You're part of the story, you know what I mean?
I think it's on you to tell someone that's closer
to them to then share that information with them. What
did you do? How'd you play it? In the end?
Three four eight three Jerry.

Speaker 2 (32:19):
And Minnie the Hotiarchy Breakfast.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
Hey, this text, and we're just talking about whether or
not someone should be told if they have camel toe yes,
and or moss knuckle or anything like that that's going
on in a live television situation. Yes, someone says yep,
same as something in your teeth. Person who tells you hero,
everyone who let you go through the day and said
nothing despicable five seconds of embarrassment versus realizing that you've

(32:45):
been like that.

Speaker 3 (32:45):
For our years. But there's a way to go about.
You've got to figure out the relationship you have with
that person. Are you in a position to be able
to tell that person that or are they going to
think you're a creep? The other thing is can you
do it without alerting the wider group to the fact
that it's happened, because now it's a whole thing if
you bring the eye of sour on back around to them,
and now everyone's talking about their camel toe. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
Well, I think as well, the difference between a most
snackle or a camel toe and a live television situation
and then something in your teeth.

Speaker 3 (33:13):
Yeah yeah, because.

Speaker 1 (33:14):
The most snicle or cameltoe assumes that you've been looking there.

Speaker 3 (33:17):
Well, look I've I've fallen victim to this. To knuckle in,
I know you to knuckle in a bit of So
we were on a live stream. Was like a watchlong
thing for I think a cricket game and potentially a
rugby game. But anyway, it was one of these situations
where there's a couch and then a row of chairs
behind the couch. There's about six of us watching a
sports thing, and we live streamed it. For whatever reason,

(33:40):
the camera was mounted to the floor because I was
sitting front and center. I was knuckling a bit of
most right in the right in the front of the camera.
No desk, no desk, no death shorts. Summer must have
been must have been cricket.

Speaker 1 (33:53):
Now that I think about it, it's could be very problematic.

Speaker 3 (33:55):
It was very problematic. And because I was sitting right
in the front and center. Uh, and obviously I'm on
the live stream, so I can't see that the comments
are starting to mount up. But web master acc web
master Joe Jury could see that, and he was like,
this is good for engagement. The more comments that we
get on the streen, the more it gets poshed out
on social media, right, okay? And so he said nothing

(34:17):
to me, and yeah, and just let it, let it rock, Okay. See,
I think what am I supposed to do If I'm
knuckling a bit of mercier, Well, that's it. I mean,
how far does it go? What about if someone said, look, look,
I can clearly see.

Speaker 1 (34:28):
The outline of you, but you're running a hog. I mean,
what do you meant to do in that situation? You
can't tuck it.

Speaker 3 (34:33):
Where are you gonna put it? No, it's already in
the pan.

Speaker 5 (34:35):
No.

Speaker 3 (34:35):
And I think in the interest of body positivity, you've
just gotta you just gotta rock with it.

Speaker 8 (34:40):
Jerry and Mini the Darkey Breakfast daily bespoke content that
you won't find on the radio. Show the Herdarkey Breakfast podcast.

Speaker 1 (34:49):
Right, we have a VCR in the studio, we have
a gin Z in the studio. Is and we have
a television in the studio. The question is because Zoie's
never seen a VCR player before. Amazing, but still and
she this is a this is a VCR.

Speaker 9 (35:07):
Is that's sorry?

Speaker 1 (35:10):
Is this is the v h S, which is a
video home system. Yes, short for video home system. And
that that thing Now, I'm not really going to tell.

Speaker 3 (35:21):
You what it does. You just have to look at that.
It's Hadley on Cricket. Yes, it's in its case that
you would rent from Video Easy. She's opened it. Describe
what you say in there.

Speaker 10 (35:30):
It's just a break.

Speaker 1 (35:34):
Okay, a large piece of plastic that is the size
of a small book. Now, Handley on Cricket, the world
champion wicket taker, shows and explains how he has become
one of the world's greatest strike bowlers and all around
cricketing athletes.

Speaker 3 (35:47):
Something that you need to see, Zoe, because I feel
like you your value as a strike bowler is sort
of falling off at the moment, so you need a
couple of tips on that.

Speaker 1 (35:56):
It includes introduction and attitudes fitness, selection of equipment, bowling,
the run up grips, problems and solutions, batting techniques and
shots running between them.

Speaker 3 (36:04):
Work. It's fielding, work at keeping in captaincy with John right, perfect,
all opportunities for improvement there for Zoe. All right, you've
got the VHS in your hand. The VCR is over
there underneath the TV. Go see if you can plug that.

Speaker 6 (36:17):
I'm not confident.

Speaker 9 (36:18):
So nothing's plugged in, it's not got the power, it's
not connected up to the TV that's above it. Currently.

Speaker 3 (36:24):
No, you've just.

Speaker 1 (36:24):
Given all I mean, you've just directed her immediately by
saying that.

Speaker 3 (36:28):
Well, she's directed her to the power plug. It does
require power.

Speaker 9 (36:33):
Obviously, I don't have a lot of faith this is
going to work.

Speaker 3 (36:35):
She's identified the power plug, the power plug is plugged
into the wall. Yep, and she is now faced with
three colored cables that she's never seen before. Now she's
confided to me off here that she does have trouble
plugging an HDMI cable under the back of a TV.
So this is this is a cut above that.

Speaker 1 (36:51):
Well, the RCA is a time and a place of
another generation. So it's even getting that, I mean knowing
where goes. We're in the situation.

Speaker 3 (37:00):
But do you remember back in the day having to
plug these in without being able to see the back
of the TV? Because remember, sometimes the TV was so
big you couldn't move it, so you had to put
them in blind basically with your hand behind the TV
where you couldn't see it. Yes, I remember that.

Speaker 1 (37:13):
I also remember attempting to move TVs back in the day,
those giant tube ones, and you need six people to
move them.

Speaker 3 (37:19):
She has plugged Okay, so it's on and it is
plugged into the back of the TV.

Speaker 6 (37:25):
Can just change the outfit on the TV?

Speaker 3 (37:27):
Oh? Yeah, they look so far so good? Component is
that right? I reckon, it's so far so good.

Speaker 9 (37:33):
Do you think that's right?

Speaker 10 (37:35):
That looks right, looks ancient so much?

Speaker 3 (37:37):
Okay, it's it's a gray.

Speaker 1 (37:40):
Now this is the this is the interesting. But so
Zoe has currently has the VHS in her hand and
she is.

Speaker 3 (37:50):
It goes. This could be an absolute desut it's not
going in and she's trying to put it in the
wrong way.

Speaker 1 (37:57):
She's now flipped it over and that's also the wrong way.
And this is the third way is the correct way
in it? But it was three attempts there.

Speaker 3 (38:06):
We've just received a text. I donated that copy of
Hadley on Cricket to the ACC. Hopefully it works.

Speaker 9 (38:11):
Goodness, because the warranties just ended.

Speaker 10 (38:13):
I've done it.

Speaker 3 (38:18):
And Richard Hadley. Now what a delivery that was to
Chris Tavat. By the way, they weren't all black and white,
so I just want you to know that this one is.
But they weren't. Shout out to Sam from Retromania underscore
n Z. He's the one who donated that videos.

Speaker 1 (38:34):
Forward on that thing and well that's can you can
you operate it? Because obviously it had the tab taken
off it, which means that it just played straight away
so you didn't actually have to play it. She has
now stopped it. You're fast forwarding. Okay, she's fast forwarding.
It's a nine cam serious a good good just played
that one.

Speaker 3 (38:55):
Now the request see you go. It's a Smith talking
to Richard Hadley and they oh.

Speaker 9 (39:01):
In SPA, it's really different on this video.

Speaker 3 (39:03):
Great congratulations. It turns out gen Z canfact operate a
VCR Jerry.

Speaker 2 (39:09):
And Mania the hold Ikey Breakfast.

Speaker 3 (39:12):
But it's academic gives a call out. I had hundred Hardeki,
I had one hundred forty eight seven to five. You
just need to answer three questions right out of five.
You l forty five seconds to do it. Big windfall
on Friday, which means we reset to fifty dollars, but
still a bargain of twice the price. We go to
the phone lines, now, Blair from Pokakoe, You went too
Sacred Heart College? Is that right? Correct? Yeah? I can

(39:34):
see it's already on there once one time before there
wasn't you?

Speaker 1 (39:36):
Was it?

Speaker 12 (39:38):
Probably not?

Speaker 3 (39:40):
Probably not? Okay? Can never be too sure, can you?

Speaker 11 (39:43):
Is true?

Speaker 3 (39:44):
I presume that's a big school. There must have been
some famous people that went there.

Speaker 1 (39:48):
Oh yeah, San Patrick.

Speaker 3 (39:52):
Fitz Patrick about as famous as they get. I had
to go academically.

Speaker 12 (39:56):
Though, pretty good. Hey, actually I think some painment they're too.
Is that right the world at the moment?

Speaker 3 (40:02):
Isn't he the most famous footballer in the world? Ever? Yep, yep,
turns out that'll do all right? Then your chance to
join Tim Payne up there in the stratosphere. Blair, good luck.

Speaker 1 (40:13):
Here we go, Bleair. Question number one for you. The
Mitsubishi Black Diamond was a popular brand of what.

Speaker 4 (40:22):
Michael Wade, wasn't it?

Speaker 1 (40:24):
It was a VCR Dave Gibson as the front man
for which Kiwi band correct. Stephen Glover, known professionally as
Steve O, was made famous by what TV show?

Speaker 3 (40:37):
Oh God, Jack, that's right?

Speaker 1 (40:39):
And what year did Japan launch their infamous attack on
Pearl Harbor?

Speaker 12 (40:43):
Nineteen two?

Speaker 3 (40:46):
No, it was ninety forty one. You've got to get
this right.

Speaker 1 (40:48):
Who won seven consecutive Tutor France titles between nineteen ninety
nine and two thousand and five?

Speaker 3 (40:59):
Done? And we will?

Speaker 1 (41:00):
Are we going back to the to the third umpire
to have a look at the midst of Bushy Black
Diamond because.

Speaker 9 (41:07):
I don't think there's any need for it.

Speaker 1 (41:08):
I believe there may have been a microwave by the
same name, Is that right?

Speaker 3 (41:12):
I believe there may have been.

Speaker 12 (41:14):
Give away probably should have been the vad All morning.

Speaker 3 (41:17):
Yeah, that's right, that's right.

Speaker 1 (41:19):
Congratulations, you wanted fifty dollars bunnings about jibilia.

Speaker 3 (41:22):
Well done? Let VC our players still play. I'm watching.
Oh it's just finished, captain see with John Wright? Can
you rewind that back to the start now? Please?

Speaker 11 (41:32):
Don't.

Speaker 2 (41:33):
Jerry and the Night, the Breakfast.

Speaker 3 (41:36):
The Big news coming through on Friday night.

Speaker 13 (41:39):
It's sort of dawned on me in the last few
days that it felt like the time was right for
me to step away. And I just have so much
respect for the New Zealand team, the black Caps, and
so much respect for the game, and so it feels
right to be making this decision today.

Speaker 1 (41:54):
That is came Williamson pulling stumps on his one hundred
and ten Test career, finishing with the post test runs
and the most Test centuries for New Zealand. But how
surprising was it for one of our best to retire
in the middle of a series while you're playing in England?
Paul Stuart Ford, New Zealand's premier sports journalist, joins us. Now,

(42:14):
was it an unusual move you reckon retiring now, Paul Ford?

Speaker 12 (42:19):
I mean, it was annoying from my point of view,
but I guess, you know, Came Williamson does things in
Kain Williamson ways, and you know, to retire with a
ten word statement at ten pm on a Friday night
after a Chiefs game in England during the middle of
the series just kind of feels like you're trying to
find a slot in the calendar. Where you get the

(42:39):
least amount of attention and just get this thing over
and done with. And it just feels like he just
doesn't want the limelight. And you know the light the
light bulb goes out when you're in a job and
you go, you know what, I think, I don't think
I can get out of bed.

Speaker 9 (42:49):
Tomorrow and do this anymore.

Speaker 1 (42:51):
I think how he goes I think there could have
been one other way, and that is just to finish
a series and then not say anything and then just
never play again.

Speaker 3 (42:59):
And that's the then Tory method.

Speaker 12 (43:00):
After the World Cup final, yeah, I mean, I think
maybe with hindsight, there was a lot of speculation. You'll
remember the Tim Souy farewell, which was a bit awkward
because Tim Soudy kind of didn't really sort of cover
himself in glory in that final series. But around that
time was when came Wllinton was there was speculation came
Linton might be done and he scored one hundred in

(43:21):
Hamilton against England when we gave them an absolute pants
down hiding, and there was a lot of speculation at
the end of twenty twenty four that that might be
the end of his days. And I think there were
conversations that we had and he went and basically they
just said to him, well, haven't you to just keep
going for a bit more, mate, please? And so I
think maybe not a deal, but I kind of like,
let's just do it series by series. And so with hindsight,

(43:42):
I wonder whether the light was dimming and we've got
another eighteen months out of him, but he is done.

Speaker 3 (43:50):
When we you know, while he was still playing, people
wanted to start comparing him to the great certainly of
New zealandkroug gup, but then obviously the world as well.
I always feel like it's too early. Well, the guy's
still playing, has since the warm, but he has retired,
so now's the time to have the discussion. How good
is the first in terms of New Zealand greats? And
then on the world stage.

Speaker 4 (44:10):
Yeah, we've waited forty eight ALSM and I think we're
good to go.

Speaker 12 (44:13):
Yeah. I think definitely, from my point of view, our
best batsman of all time. I mean, I get him
in a turmoil because I think Richard Hadley was a
more significant figure for New Zealand cricket. But in terms
of I guess watching a guy come through over the
last twenty years inspire a generation. I think I think

(44:34):
Cain would be you know, I guess let's just say
he's our best better maybe Richard Hadley our best bowler,
and that's kind of that feels like about the right
place for him. I mean, I think the thing about Hadley,
without dwelling on that, is that Hadley did it by himself.
Caine was the you know, I guess inspired or got
to build on that foundation that Hadley that Hadley built.

(44:55):
And he was also working alongside some of the great
to our game, you know, sou they Bolt, the Tory, McCullum, Taylor, Wattling,
de Gonde Home, so you know they were as a collective,
I think they were epic and Kin was absolutely the
diamond amongst the batters in that lineup. But yeah, so

(45:16):
I think that's from a New Zealand point of view
and gyms of the world stage. I mean, I think
he's got some world class statistics and I think you know,
when you've scored more test centuries than Steve war and
you're up there with with Alistair Cook, you've got a
home average that people are comparing, you know, you're in
the same breast as Bradman and Sobers. You know that
you are, you know, up in the pandemic of amazing

(45:38):
international cricketers. But look, I think he's probably outside the absolute,
absolute great to the game, but certainly New Zealand's number
one contender.

Speaker 1 (45:47):
Why did New Zealanders love him so much? Pull Stuart forward?

Speaker 12 (45:51):
I think it's just the thing. I think it's that
world class cricketing greatness, definitely, but also the almost kind
of comical self humility. And I think, you know, scoring
all the runs and looking great and playing beautiful shots
and all of that good stuff, and getting us into

(46:13):
tournaments and tournament finals and scoring big runs on big
stages and all of that stuff that was amazing. But
I think that he did it in that.

Speaker 4 (46:20):
Classic Sir Edmund Hillary kind of way.

Speaker 12 (46:23):
You know, I'm doing it for everyone else. It's not
about me doing it with poise, doing it with calm,
doing it with dignity, and that is what commanded respect
from international people. It wasn't him going around kind of
and I guess in a world of massive cricketing egos,
he was a bit of an elixir of calm and
dignity and I think that's the I think That's why

(46:45):
we loved him, is that he showed a lot of
grace and composure and yeah, just that absolute kind of
the model Kiwi sportsman, unbelievably good, extremely modest, low drama,
controversy free and team first.

Speaker 3 (47:00):
A text three on three four eight three. What does
Paul Ford say to allegations that Glane made a deal
with the devil came Williamson's international career for a chief
Super Rugby semi final win.

Speaker 12 (47:12):
Well, I don't know if he did. He must have
been quite drunk, deep regret. The guy was involved in
some text exchanges that he was. I would give anything
to get Kane Williamson back. So you know, I don't
know if he's done something terrible there, but I think
he wants to walk it back for sure.

Speaker 1 (47:27):
So there were only a few more games obviously in
the series to go, and if he had have played
all those games, I see in terms of most matches,
so Ross Taylor and Dan Vatoria have played the most
one hundred and twelve, Stephen Fleming next one hundred and eleven,
and then came Williamson on one hundred and ten. Now,
if he had have played the other two tests in
the series, he would have been up there with Ross

(47:49):
Taylor and Dan Vatoria as the most matches for New Zealand.
Is I wonder whether he doesn't actually want to be
at the top of lists. I know that sounds weird,
but just to your point before about wanting to go
unto the radar, I wonder about that.

Speaker 12 (48:05):
It sounds weird to us because I guess we go,
why would you not want to be on the top
of all of these lists?

Speaker 9 (48:09):
But you know, he just didn't care.

Speaker 12 (48:11):
And he said this in his press conference or his
chat in that windowless logo list hotel room where he
appropriately announced his retirement with no ego and no drama.
You know, he said, the runs aren't yours, They're of
service to the team. And that's the point. He's like,
I'm only here to score the runs for the team.

(48:34):
I don't really care about any of this other stuff,
including how many times I kept in New Zealand, or how.

Speaker 4 (48:38):
Many Whenther's I got or whatever.

Speaker 12 (48:41):
I think he loved the team succeeding and that's what
he got out of bed for. And I think what's
happened is he's gone. You know what, I think someone
else is going to get out of bed and be
keener to do this than me. And I'm going to
make a space for somebody.

Speaker 1 (48:52):
This text here on three for three just came Williams
and now have to pay for his own flight home
seeing as he's leaving madtur That's such a New Zealand question.

Speaker 3 (49:00):
I think he surely would.

Speaker 1 (49:01):
Be afforded the flight home for all the things that
he's done for news around.

Speaker 3 (49:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 12 (49:06):
I think g lank coun shout him the flight for God. No,
I think I actually think he's staying over there. I
know he's.

Speaker 4 (49:13):
I'm a huge fan of the butcher at middle.

Speaker 3 (49:15):
Thank you very much for your time. Paul Stewart Ford,
New Zealand's premier sports journalist.

Speaker 8 (49:21):
Jerry and Midnight The Hodiarchy Breakfast, Jerry and many a
joined the Conflate the Hodaki Breakfast discussion group on Facebook
for more So, this.

Speaker 1 (49:31):
Is pretty exciting. Guess who we're going to be chatting
to tomorrow night.

Speaker 3 (49:34):
Yes, this is very exciting, very excited. This will be
the biggest guest we've ever had on the show. I'd say,
up there, yep, up there.

Speaker 1 (49:42):
Particularly for our audience people that grew up watching television
MTV and the early two thousand, late nineties, early two thousands,
and then all the way into the loomed large over
those over those naughties. A they're called the naughty years.

Speaker 3 (49:57):
They're called the naughties. That's an annoying term, isn't it?
But I believe strain of STD named after him around
college campuses in the early two thousands. Yes, it can
only be one person. Johnny Knoxville joins us on the show.
Down the track, we're going to be interviewing him. We're
allowed to say when there's a lot of rules around
what we can and can't say here. So we're interviewing
him tomorrow night, but it won't play out till around

(50:19):
next week or something. But anyway, this is the biggest
guess that we have had since I've been on this show,
for sure, And so we want your help on three
four A three. What would you ask Johnny Knoxville if
you have the chance to talk to him?

Speaker 1 (50:32):
It's such an interesting dude because what he did with
Jackass essentially a predated YouTube and YouTube short clips. But
what he did is he put a whole lot of
what ended up being short clips together on a television
show and stunts happening, weird things happening that you would
normally film really loosely, because before that it was all

(50:53):
about production values in television. And he just took about
right away. He's like, Nah, we just got a camera
and we're just film.

Speaker 3 (50:58):
We're just doing dumb shit. It mate's doing dumb shit.
I mean when I started coming out, when I was
at around sort of early high school era, and so
it was just the whispers on the playground. You would
hear all these rumors of we men fell off a
roof and died. Not true. If you were just here,
so much about this and everybody would pass the VHS's

(51:19):
so around to the playground. Go ahead and watch this one.
Try and hide it from your parents that you were
watching it. Someone sticks through you guys having Beavis and
Buthead on the show. Here's a question.

Speaker 1 (51:29):
Someone suggests what was the most pain he felt on camera?

Speaker 3 (51:32):
Soy, that's good.

Speaker 1 (51:33):
I also want to know what were the stunts that
you came up with. What's the ideas that if you've
come up with that, that you never have filmed.

Speaker 3 (51:41):
Yeah, because that filmed and then.

Speaker 1 (51:44):
Stuff like insane stuff. But I'd like to know the
ones that never make it because I think legally they're
not allowed to do some things because they're too copyable.

Speaker 3 (51:56):
Yes, too imitable, yep, And that was always a bigger
then as.

Speaker 1 (52:00):
A result, you're not allowed to do that because obviously
legally they will get in trouble if people copy them.

Speaker 3 (52:06):
I also want to know what's the most common one
that people bring up with it, you know, because he's
got such a long back catalog of doing dumb shit.
What are the ones that people bring up to him
whenever they say what are the ones that they yell
out to him across the street.

Speaker 1 (52:18):
Certainly he's had a lot of concussions, a lot of
head knocks.

Speaker 3 (52:21):
Would you be worried about.

Speaker 1 (52:22):
How that's going to affect you later on in life?

Speaker 3 (52:25):
No, I don't think he would. It's give to tax
three four three. I'll get your questions and we'll be
interviewing him after the show tomorrow. So if something occurs
to you over night, then let us know. Johnny Knoxville
your chance to ask Johnny knox for the question.

Speaker 1 (52:37):
Johnny Knoxville from Jackass, what I'm really looking forward to.

Speaker 2 (52:40):
That Jerry and Mni the hold Ikey Breakfast.

Speaker 1 (52:44):
I heard a rumor that there was an incident on
Friday nights across at the pub where Ruder was playing
a gig and involved Mesh and Lauren mash for a
producer of the show. And they're going away gig. Yeah,
they're leaving, They're leaving party. Yeah, and well I've heard
that the microphone Ruder's microphone, Ruder being the singer and

(53:08):
guitarist in his band.

Speaker 3 (53:11):
Well it was.

Speaker 9 (53:11):
Yeah, it was a duo, one half of the duo.

Speaker 3 (53:15):
You probably say, break up.

Speaker 1 (53:16):
The Joplin I've heard that the microphone was wrestled away
from him by someone who just happens to be in
the studio here.

Speaker 3 (53:23):
Oh Jesus, this is an allegation, wrestled away from Okay,
so this is entrapment because I was forced to go
up on stage in the second song. It's now being
relayed to the nation as I got up there and
wrestled the microphone. So I've done something I didn't want
to do, and I'm now being remonstrated for it.

Speaker 9 (53:41):
Yeah, you did with a plum, thank you, absolutely nailed.

Speaker 3 (53:44):
Thank you. What song did he sing? Rudeer? This is mania?

Speaker 1 (53:47):
He wrestled the microphone away from you? Forced his way
up there, bustled through everybody.

Speaker 3 (53:51):
I was say that did happen? But it wasn't me that.

Speaker 9 (53:55):
Yeah, he did Angels by Robert Williams and Angels We No,
he really took a strong lead on that. And because
when I had no form of monitoring so he couldn't
hear himself, he went as loud as he possibly could.
And man, he was loud, okay, but he was strong.

Speaker 3 (54:11):
Okay. Don't ask me to help you out on stage
ever again? Should we start it there? Loud is not
a compliment. No, when it comes to singing.

Speaker 9 (54:20):
He's an observation.

Speaker 3 (54:21):
But he was soulful. Could you never ask me to
come up on stay? Just sing a song and then
throw me under the bus immediately on the Monday morning?

Speaker 9 (54:27):
He had energy?

Speaker 3 (54:28):
One time deal. What's the deal with it?

Speaker 1 (54:30):
As a performer of note, so you'd be playing at
pubs and stuff like that around the place. What's the
deal about people coming up and singing? It's kind of
karaoke but it's not karaoke.

Speaker 9 (54:39):
Well, there are actually bands that do that, like they
do a live band karaoke situation. This is not one
of those. But I guess the thing for us on
Friday night was there was a group of about twenty
or thirty people and we knew most of them. So
when Bonnie Jensen one News was the first person to
make an absolute beeline behind a couple of tables and
grab the microphone and demand, demand that we must play

(55:01):
Valerie by Amy one House, Oh for herd.

Speaker 1 (55:04):
The thing, well, it's a party song, great party started,
good good, good song to dance to as well.

Speaker 3 (55:09):
Valerie.

Speaker 9 (55:10):
Yeah, but difficult vocally, I mean it wasn't too bad.
The thing is that Bonnie Jensen one used had had
a few beverages at this point and there was a
little bit of flatness at the end of most of
the nose. She'd just fall off at the end of those.

Speaker 1 (55:24):
But she brought.

Speaker 3 (55:26):
She brought a lot of it. Was there any flatness
and a nice too. I'm not asking for I asked
to go and get on that. I was asked against
my will by ruder. By the way, well not just
get up on the stage. So don't now turn around
and be like, oh, I whistled the micro It.

Speaker 9 (55:46):
Was also a favorite for lots who's leaving party.

Speaker 3 (55:48):
It was a little bit of last favor anyone gets
out about it.

Speaker 9 (55:51):
But second up, when I was third up, actually second
up was a former employee of Radio heard Aki the Duchess.

Speaker 3 (55:58):
Oh she got up.

Speaker 9 (55:59):
I really remember what song she sung early, but later
on she tried Taylor Swift to shake it off and
promptly found that it was very high song to sing.

Speaker 3 (56:10):
All right, I think in general the rulers, if you're
not invited up onto the stage, then probably don't. As
I've learned this morning, even if you are invited up
onto the stage, probably don't because you'll get played for it.
On Monday.

Speaker 2 (56:22):
Jerry and Minia the hold Ikey Breakfast.

Speaker 3 (56:24):
Sports chest with acc head. Gane taught you by export
ultra the beer for him. Welcome to the studio.

Speaker 10 (56:35):
I can hear that that's the Mona bus.

Speaker 14 (56:38):
That is the Mona bus, and it's headed to Wellington
to steam roll the Hurricanes this weekend. After steam rolling
the Crusaders at FML Stadium.

Speaker 10 (56:48):
What a weekend, and what a weekend.

Speaker 14 (56:49):
The tron Field Days rugby geez, well, I'm thinking much better.

Speaker 1 (56:55):
I think a lot of people thought the Chiefs we
were going to beat the Crusaders, but nobody saw that
first half. Nobody, not even you.

Speaker 3 (57:02):
No forty two five.

Speaker 10 (57:03):
You had to extract me from the roof of the studio.

Speaker 14 (57:05):
There was just so much, so much bodily fluids flowing
around in that first half.

Speaker 3 (57:11):
Five chick multiple apps. I was like, this can't be right.
So there's a bug with the score thing on the
TV screed forty two points.

Speaker 14 (57:18):
Some Champagne Rugby, Absolutely champagn Rugby.

Speaker 10 (57:21):
That just didn't give them the ball in.

Speaker 14 (57:22):
That first half and they executed perfectly, I mean, and
then they parked the man of us in the second half.

Speaker 10 (57:28):
They were like, you know what, we hold on for
twenty minutes. The game's ours and an effect.

Speaker 3 (57:32):
It was the most painful part was that the Crusaders
came out and scored relatively early in the second half,
and it was just enough hope for me. I was like,
and then the chief scored and then she was a dull,
turgid affair.

Speaker 10 (57:44):
Absolutely, let's be honest, Menia, you gave up at half time.

Speaker 14 (57:47):
You jumped on stage the Empire with Ruder and bashed
outs and Robbi Williams.

Speaker 3 (57:51):
Yet that is what happened.

Speaker 1 (57:53):
Well good news though for all Weecks fans as well.
There because seeing Damien McKenzie play that. Well, yeah, I
mean that's a master class right there.

Speaker 14 (58:00):
Yeah, Now, I mean even quincu Pire, who looked a
little like always blowing the quintu Pire looked a bit
injured at the end there. I was a bit worried,
but he seemed to shake off what looked to be
a serious knee injury and carried on. But it must
have been a dead leg of some description. But great
to see the Valingtonians turn out and kind of force
on Saturday. They met the camera angles managed to avoid

(58:20):
the full three empty sections until right the last minute
of the game when they scored in the corner there
and they had to show it. So you'd hope that
Hurricanes fans will turn up this weekend for the finals.

Speaker 1 (58:32):
Well let's talk about this game though, I mean, the
Blues were there, It was there or thereabouts, fifty seven
to twenty one, going down by thirty six points. Of course,
the Chiefs the Crusader's going down by thirty seven points
and Hamilton, so you would say that that's a The
Blues basically came third.

Speaker 3 (58:48):
Well look.

Speaker 14 (58:51):
The third at halftime, seventeen fourteen at halftime, and you
know the Blues led from a lot of that first half,
and then on the commentar we were like, here we.

Speaker 3 (58:59):
Go, hang on, here we go.

Speaker 14 (59:01):
Is the bid situation for the Canes. But then they
did what the Chiefs did in the first half against
the Crusaders, and they ran away with.

Speaker 3 (59:08):
Absolutely blew it out. I saw it coming to I
believe we've got the audio for my prediction on Friday.
You just never know. Blue's get a bit of a
roll on.

Speaker 4 (59:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 14 (59:16):
Look, I'll give it to you if it's tight at
half time or just after halftime.

Speaker 10 (59:20):
But if they I mean, I saw last week against
the sixty.

Speaker 3 (59:23):
Points man, it's going to be a sixty point drubbing.
Write that down. I clip that sixty point drubbing where
he got that wrong. Hurricanes called fifty seven.

Speaker 14 (59:31):
Yeah, how's how's the possuming from cam rouyguard But he jumped.

Speaker 3 (59:36):
Where do we stand on that?

Speaker 14 (59:37):
So, first of all, as as soon as I saw
that he melked the actual he jumped into body Barrett.
Body Barrett was I mean, let's be clear, Boden Bartt
is not interested in going into any sort of really
heavy context. So he was competing and he pulled out
and Rugo kind of dived into him.

Speaker 3 (59:51):
Fell to the ground, was like.

Speaker 10 (59:54):
And then like a possi being hit by eighteen wheels
of justice. He just got up, ies tapped.

Speaker 1 (59:59):
Gone ran fifty amazing, miraculous recovery from here.

Speaker 3 (01:00:02):
Yeah, I don't know where I stand on that with
Milking and Rubia.

Speaker 1 (01:00:06):
I mean you've seen a lot with League as well,
now where a League player will have a slightly high
shot and then they just take a while to get
up and then they touched the head.

Speaker 3 (01:00:13):
The problem is now that he's done that, he will
never get the benefit of the doubt if he goes
down injured again. So if he goes down and goes
oh sorry, Mahami, there's going to be no sympathy and
he's going to get cleaned out so hard the next
time that happens.

Speaker 1 (01:00:24):
I think it's a nod to the FEEFA World Cup.
What's going on?

Speaker 10 (01:00:28):
Yeah, I think camrooids has just gone.

Speaker 14 (01:00:29):
You know what, people will cups on the just just
a we nod to all the drama queens rolling around
clutching their faces are over and America, Canada and US.

Speaker 1 (01:00:38):
He was good, though, I mean, I've got to say
when I saw it happen, I was like, oh, this
looks bad, this looks bad, and then well bomb it
was up.

Speaker 3 (01:00:45):
It was going for Womba. Yeah. In the middle of
all of the chaos. On Friday night as well, Joe
Jury had to rush out of the pub because Kane
Williamson retires.

Speaker 10 (01:00:55):
Yeah yeah, real shame.

Speaker 14 (01:00:57):
I mean word is that he had to get convey
to do this tour to England and begin this tour.
He wasn't overly keen, but I got convinced to do
it and played that first Test and just didn't feel
the vibe, didn't have a good time, didn't didn't feel
the vibe and wasn't at came Williams and he's like,
you know what, and his his wife from England is
you know, he will spend the rest of the summer

(01:01:18):
over there. He'll play a bit of cricky free trip
to England, playing for Middlesex for another you know, three
or four months, and he'll come home and he won't
won a new fan fair. He doesn't want the Ross
Taylor Grand Tour. He just wants to go out in
his own terms.

Speaker 3 (01:01:30):
And good on him.

Speaker 10 (01:01:31):
He's still probably our best batsman. But it's just a
shame he.

Speaker 3 (01:01:33):
Doesn't want a taxidermy camel on the sideline.

Speaker 14 (01:01:37):
Well, little does he know that I've got about a
container load of hats.

Speaker 10 (01:01:41):
He's going to be a darkly You.

Speaker 1 (01:01:44):
Need to fly a plane over the top of the
oval and then they just need to need to be dropped.

Speaker 10 (01:01:49):
Well, it's the last two hats of the summer.

Speaker 14 (01:01:52):
Of last two hats, last two tests of the summer
are going to be in Hamilton and Totonger at the
end of this cricket summer.

Speaker 3 (01:01:58):
So is at the end of the hats?

Speaker 10 (01:01:59):
Yeah, they might be.

Speaker 3 (01:02:01):
Do we do a helicopter drop kind of drop.

Speaker 14 (01:02:03):
Some sort of like top dressing plane flowing over dangerously
low with a dangerously high pilot, flower bows on glass,
barbie just buzzing the embankment dropping.

Speaker 10 (01:02:13):
Yet it's gonna have to happen, becuse I need to
get rid of them somehow.

Speaker 14 (01:02:16):
But I think that that, especially that Bay Oval game,
will be a bit of a farewell four Kane, even
though he's not playing. I think it'll be a bit
of a tribute because he is one of the one
is our greatest ever batsman, and he's decided to call
it today, which I was already high on emotions that
night and I got that and I went home and
had a little bit of cry.

Speaker 3 (01:02:34):
Yeah, I thought so. I thought so. I thought he
would do a vittry and just quietly just never play again.
But true he tried to.

Speaker 1 (01:02:44):
Yeah, and it's just meant that the game which starts
the secondiest, which starts at the Oval on Wednesday night, Yeah,
that makes that super interesting. Yeah because now with England
out with three players now actually that have that have
gone from their test team that won last week and
now came Williams is not playing. It's like, wow, this
