Speaker 1 (00:00):
Daily bespoke content that you won't find on the radio
show The HURDARKI Breakfast podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Welcome along, Thanks great to be here.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
I just wanted to because earlier on I was watching
the Masters and Justin Rose, so I believe is some
sort of English he somewhat some sort of English English.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
What person I suppose, okay, person, not teacher.
Speaker 4 (00:26):
No no, no, no, no, an English teacher.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
No. I think he's some sort of a member of
the United Kingdom, a member, a constituent, a peasant, a
surf he. I was watching him walking along with the Masters,
and he tossed the golf ball from his right hand
to his left and what is quite unmistakably a league
spin delivery.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Oh like he's like he's at the top of his
run up and he's.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
And he's Shane warn really and I wondered the back
of the hand, back of the hand sort of stuff. Yeah,
but the rest was in an upright position. So that
is the stock standard legie as opposed to the cock rest,
which of course is the wrong And that's where my
issue is constantly cock wrists stock wrong and.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Can you just not cock your wrist quite as much?
In there?
Speaker 4 (01:07):
Full bowl a league. I've talked to Gary Stead about this.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
I saw it help from black Cat's coach Gary Steed,
former former New Zealand cricketer, former league spinner of note,
Gary Stick.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
Gary Stick, You're right, Yeah, did he did? He bowl.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
Spun a leg? And so I talked to him. We
went to the We went to the press conference for
the launch of the news at the black Caps Summer
cricket a couple of years ago, and we had time
with all of the different people and I was the
last interview and his media man was going, Hey, Gary,
we're just going to go over here and talk to TV.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
One and then after that, we've got this.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Guy here from where are you from? And I was
like the alternative commentary Collective. He's like, he's got a
couple of questions for you, and Gary goes, I just
say I just called Gary. He goes, Oh, what are
your questions? So I can think about it ahead of time.
And I was like, oh, I literally can only bowl
a wrong and and I can't old Leaksman, and I
just need some tips on how to bowl leaksman and
he goes.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
Yeah, is that it.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
I was like, yeah, he guess, And so he went
and he faced the media TV and Z held his
feet to the fire.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
Was grilled. He was grilled and on strategy solutions, et cetera,
et cetera.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
And then he came over to me and I was like, yeah,
I'm stuck bowling wrongins I can't and he's like, yeah,
I've got a drill for you.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
And then he started coaching you. Yeah, the black Caps
coach actually did some coaching.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
He seemed as lacky.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
To check the meeting rooms and TV and Z to
try and find some sort of ball. Someone came out
and found a stress ball, gave it to him and
he said, kneel down on the floor.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Yeah, I was always this gun. And take those off. Yeah,
kneel down, and before you get down, take those off.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
Kneel down on the floor and bend over and pick
a spot on the wall and go to your happy glass.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Any put these amos on.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
And then he you can keep secret. Good.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
No, he squeeze a bit of this around you. Now
look me in the eyes, actually, don't look.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Then put us on.
Speaker 5 (03:35):
Your mind.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
And just keep this between us.
Speaker 6 (03:41):
You just camera turned off camera.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
To camera, pull those kids and and then he knelt
down and he did so we're now you're both on
your knees. The sado that I'll dig it out, I'll
post it. But so now we're both on our knees
about three four menutes maybe three meters apart from each other,
(04:05):
facing opposite. Basically if we knelt down and faced each
other and then he moved like three meters to my
left and then we just bowled this ball back and
forth to each other across ourselves on the floor. So
the whole why would you be on your knees to
do that? So it's stopped beside. The issue with the
league spin is because I'm getting too front on in
my delivery. So being on your knees means you can't
(04:26):
turn and so it forces you to bowl across you
yourself a little bit more. And that's what he was
trying to teach me. Now did I even do that
drill again?
Speaker 4 (04:33):
Though?
Speaker 3 (04:33):
Because I haven't played a game of competitive cricket since
I asked them, So it was a waste of all
of our times. But it's just this ridiculous situation where
men and Gary Steed are kneeling on the floor of
the TV and said, for here, while all of New
Zealand Sports media is in attendance watching us, and.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
That has never happened before, Like nobody's ever interviewed a
national coach and cricket coach and then got some tips
from bowling league spin from them and tried to iron
out there wrong. And I mean, firstly, it's amazing you
can bowler.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
I know it's just stocked all I can, but it is.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Amazing that he still can by bowler wrong. And you've
got that supplety in the wrist.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
I can.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
I can rip those things too. I will try and
dig out the video, but it's a it's a doozy
of a video.
Speaker 6 (05:13):
Williamson rates it, doesn't he packed.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
He pecked it.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
He pecked from side on.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
He was surprised.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
He pecked it from my deck looking down at the
at the backyard, and so like it's a difficult place
to peck a wrong in from. I imagine, yeah, much
easier to pack them from either behind her in front,
like directly behind her in front of the bowler.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
You think so, Jerry, But if you can have a
look in your have a look in your dock there
it's just underneath the and the little segment there the.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
Picture of Winston Peters.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
Just above the picture of Winston Peters and we'll get
to the picture of Winston Peters. There's a link there.
Click on that and then that'll take you to the
to the video. Actually, ready, can we play that?
Speaker 4 (05:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (05:55):
We can?
Speaker 3 (05:56):
Okay, but annoyingly it's on Instagram, So that's just going
to start.
Speaker 5 (05:58):
What am I doing wrong at the moment? Your wrist
is pointing down the ground. What we want to try
and see is if you can get the wrist turned
to that position, so you're then coming over the ball
rather than out in the back.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
Of my hand. So this is where I'm at now,
and I need to be about via. Yeah, that's right.
Speaker 5 (06:14):
I think coming over the top of it will rope
take like that and hopefully turn that way.
Speaker 6 (06:19):
Now they're on their knees.
Speaker 4 (06:21):
Well are you?
Speaker 2 (06:22):
You're just doing a track suit? Gary's really working the rest,
isn't he? Oh my god?
Speaker 5 (06:31):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (06:38):
Did he sol it? He did?
Speaker 5 (06:44):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (06:44):
Okay, So you got a top, wasn't it?
Speaker 5 (06:47):
Getting the idea where your position brilliant.
Speaker 4 (06:50):
I'll go away and work on that and next year
just consider me here. I'll be looking out for you.
I'm stuck. I didn't work on it, and he didn't
consider me. He doesn't look out for you at all,
did he? He is pleased to see the back of
you held in front of you. Well, I'm gonna be
honest though.
Speaker 6 (07:04):
From the back or you're all the other way around.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Good place for us.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
He his eyes lit up though, like, Yeah, it was
that thing where finally someone has asked me about the
thing that I love to talk about.
Speaker 5 (07:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
Obviously he loves coaching and that's why that's why he
got into coaching.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
He was to coach, Yeah, not to man manage.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
No, he wasn't interested in the politics.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
No, who would be No, because he got into coaching
for politics.
Speaker 4 (07:37):
Yeah, for the drama.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Imagine there.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
Yeah, the glory should should take quick break, come back
and ever whipped through the conclude.
Speaker 4 (07:47):
There's some good stuff in this today.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
Jeremy Wells and Manaia Stuart find them on Instagram at
Hdarki Breakfast. Jerry and Manaia joined the conflict the Hrdarki
Breakfast discussion group on Facebook for more.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
Thanks very much, appreciate that, Thank you, thank you very much.
Speaker 6 (08:07):
Just before you whip into the conclave there, I've got
a little facto it about Justin Rose medal named Peter.
He's one of these people. Yes he's English English, but
when he was aged five he moved from seat. Infact,
I was just going to say South Africa with his family.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
And he looks the spinning image of Steve Kerr talking
about Justin Rose here the golfer because he's two shots
back now. But of course, when never listen to this podcast,
this mon't be relevant at all. But now he would
have lost by that stage. But at least you'll know
his middle name was Peter. Greg message into the conclave
Jeremy Hey team, not Greg Pribble, Greg Surus, Schius Suus,
(08:46):
Greg Shoemaker.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
Greek shoemaker has said, Haytim, My Olds are about to
fly internationally for the first time ever. And I vaguely
remember Jerry giving a great lecture on doze and don'ts
for international flights. Can't seem to find any help.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
Root, Greg, sure ass Older are about to fight internationally
for the first time ever.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
Yeah so I think we talked about this last year
before we went to America.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
Oh yeah, I My sister in law recently flew to
Australia with her two kids, her seven and five. My nieces,
my nieces, my nephews, nephews, and they were on a
six thirty flight to get to Brizzi am Am. One
of my first pieces of advice is never ever book
those early flights NA because they might seem cheap. They
(09:30):
might be like one hundred bucks cheap or something, but
it will it's better not. But once you've paid the
extra hundred bucks to get a normal flight, like at
nine point thirty, you won't remember later on down the
track that you haven't paid that, that you haven't paid
them money anyway.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
No.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Well, but also if it's six thirty, so you've got
to be at the airport at four thirty, you probably
live an hour away from the airport, so you're leaving
home at three thirty.
Speaker 4 (09:51):
That's last night. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
There's another problem here, and that is that when you
arrive at the place that you're arriving at, you can't
check into your accommodation. So that's the reason why it's cheap,
and so you have to flap around all day and
generally you just end up spending one hundred bucks, yes,
flapping around at a restaurant young hold of stuff. So
that's a trick for young players there. The cheapest flight
is often the worst flight. There's a reason why it's cheaper,
(10:15):
and it will cost you money later on.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
So crunch the numbers on that, because sometimes you will go, oh, well,
if I fly a day earlier, it's actually half the price,
But now you got to pay for someone to stay,
or like, what's it worth to you to not have
to walk around town with your luggage?
Speaker 4 (10:30):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (10:30):
Because people just see the price and they just go
with the cheapest. I mean, I get why you do,
because it's like, why would you pay more for something
else that's exactly the same thing. I'm traveling from here
to hear? You know, this one's it's just say one
thousand dollars. This one here is thirteen hundred dollars. I'm
going to go with one thousand dollars. I still get there,
but it's like you actually will end up paying more
(10:51):
than others. The other one is sometimes flying into airports,
you got to look at where the airport is in
relation to the place that you're going.
Speaker 4 (10:57):
To go to the closest one.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
Yeah, sometimes you'll get an airport and it might be
a super cheap flight and you think, oh, this is
good and then you realize that you've flown into Standstid,
for example, and it's one in the morning and there
are no trains, so you now have to catch taxi
and that's going to cost you four hundred pounds or something.
You know, there's always a catch.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
If you think that you're saving money, just take a
step back and just have a geze the fact that
Gregs said, my olds are about to fly internationally. Here's
a tip for your parents. It's not the nineteen fifties.
Don't get dressed up in your number ones to get
on a plane. I sat next to two guys in
full suits two piece, not three, but on the seventeen
(11:41):
hour sucker from Dubai to New Zealand.
Speaker 4 (11:44):
No now, now.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
When I tell you that this guy spilled every single
piece of food that was given to him on me,
every single piece on me because I was sitting in
the aisle seat, and then these two I think they
were Dutch, was sitting next to me every single to
the point where at one point, you know, you have
a nap under the blanket or whatever. And I stood
up to go to the bathroom and I just saw
(12:07):
this giant like red sauce dollop that had somehow gotten
between me and the blanket that he had dropped on there.
Speaker 4 (12:14):
Yeah, from his dinner. Oh god, it sounds intention of.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
Jeez, there's a there's another piece of advice there. Don't
wear white T shirts on long haw flights because you
will spill crap on it and so by the time
you arrive it looks scrubby. A couple of super basic things.
That seems silly, but yeah, as you said, comfortable comfortable
pants generally track suit, pajamas or something that's a breathable fabric.
(12:39):
You've got your linens, linens, you've got the or some
kind of marine like Marino that can keep you warm
but also breathe. But you got to think about the
place that you're going to. So when you get off
the plane, you're going to walk out of like we
did in Austin. You're going to walk out of the terminal.
Speaker 4 (12:55):
Houston.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
We actually looked at him, Oh yeah, that was even
more humid, yes, Houston.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
Sorry, And.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
You've got to think about the temperature of the places
at nighttimes, at daytime because because you don't want to
be sweeting after you've been on to say, a fifteen
hour flight, and you're tired, and you feel like crap,
and you're hungry, and it's weird and you just feel old,
and yeah, you've got to get there. You've got to
get there right. And when you get off the plane,
just before you land, you can chuck on some shorts
(13:24):
if you know that you're getting them in the thirties
or something, because otherwise you're going to start sweeting.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
I would also recommend no closed toad shoes, particularly for
the oldies, because your feet are going to swell.
Speaker 4 (13:35):
Yes, so don't have shoes off like swollen feet.
Speaker 3 (13:37):
Yeah, go crocs or slippers or some sort of open
toad situation.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
Bring your own.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
Toothbrush and a small amount of toothpastes because you can
travel on. Because it's really nice after a long haul
flight to clean your teeth before you're going to arrive.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
Otherwise you feel gross. Just basically trying to eliminate the grossness.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
Yeah, keep grossness to a limit. I would recommend if
you have the constitution for it. I don't know how
this guy's parents are.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
Hurt.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
The purse as hard as humanly possible for the first
part of the flight, as hard as your constitution will allow,
as controversial. If you're built for it, go for it.
And I've always said that if you built for it,
go for it and drunk yourself into oblivion, blackout, wake up,
you'll be about Lord of the Rings away from your destination.
Speaker 6 (14:20):
Well, because Jerry, you just described getting off the plane
and you're disoriented and you feel disgusting. It sounded like
it was a big night out. So Mania's combining the two,
which is quite clever. Is like combining the two a
hybrid version of international travel and drinking.
Speaker 4 (14:35):
And that's also my jet leg solution as well.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
So land wherever you are, immediately stay up as late
as you possibly can that night, and again, if your
constitution allows it, hit the purse as hard as you
possibly can. Then you will sleep through the night. And
then you wake up the next day. And it's like,
am I jet legged? Am I hungover? Who knows?
Speaker 4 (14:57):
Who cares? Let's go Okay.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
It's an interesting strategy, yeah, and it's definitely a strategy.
The other strategies. Don't eat food on the plane. There
is no you think, you know, I've paid all this money,
I've got a board, or there's nothing to do. I
need as much as I can Weirdly enough, the more
you eat, the worse you feel at the other end,
and the more water you drink, the better you feel.
(15:20):
So if you can drink lots of water and not
eat any of the plane food, eat your meal before
you get on the plane. Like, what people will generally
do is say they've got a night flight eight thirty,
maybe they're going.
Speaker 4 (15:29):
To the States.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
They'll have dinner at six in the airport terminal, and
then they'll get on board the flight, and then you'll
be live at another meal when you get on that flight,
and then they feel like I have to eat it. Yeah,
they'll hunt that disgusting airline meal. No matter whether you're
flying at the front of the plane or the back
of the plane, it's disgusting.
Speaker 3 (15:48):
The black of the plane. It's disgusting even you know
the best. It's the.
Speaker 4 (15:57):
Black of the Rosa parks.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
What's happening in the master?
Speaker 4 (16:02):
She thought, Master? She thought, for that?
Speaker 2 (16:06):
What else?
Speaker 3 (16:07):
I don't eat the beef. That's what did me and
l on that flight. The beef also far away. Like
you're allowed to fight as much as you like. Most
of the time, you can't smell it. Yeah, it just
disappears unless you've got some horrific bow disease going on,
in which case you probably can but.
Speaker 4 (16:22):
Rip wholesale ass wash your.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Hands plenty when you're on the plane, because you can
leap up heaps of crap, heaps of germs. Now, how
many times do you come off a plane and get
a cold three days later?
Speaker 3 (16:34):
Well, but that's something else that you're doing, Jerry, that's
causing that because you get heaps of sinus and fictions
under international.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
I don't know what you're talking about.
Speaker 4 (16:43):
Didn't you have to get off the plane because I
don't know what you're talking about.
Speaker 6 (16:47):
The altitude, just the kevin pressure is very difficult, all right,
Sure we will take a pin, take a pin.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
Oh yeah, for the departure card. Always take a pin,
the patch card, alright, thing on the head, Oh, just quickly,
Happy birthday one sim Peters, Oh eighty one today eighty one. Yeah,
if he gets any older, the US might have licked them.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
It doesn't look a day over. Nineteen eighty Jerry and
Maniah catch
Speaker 1 (17:11):
