Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Hodarchy Breakfast filled big rewards was New Power Past
pro Awards by Bunnings.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
The Hodarchy Breakfast.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
Oh god, how do you do this? Welcome in to
the Hierarchy Breakfast. That's when I am being Hurley for you,
Lasday Morning Oday.
Speaker 4 (00:16):
Hourley, Hello, welcome back to art at all.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Thank you, it's good to be here. You've been over
in Sydney for about a week and a half. A
little subjected my misses to a little mini magic round,
took her to three in r L games.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
All sort of suburban stadiums.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
One of them one of them. Yeah, we went to
Manly and said, on the hell there, beauty, first half beautiful.
As soon as that sun sets freezing we both caught
a cold. Yeah, yeah, absolutely freezing. Turned out to be
the best game of the week that we were there,
and we left early because it was that bloody.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
Now thinks his romance like a trip to Sydney in
three in r L games is.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Minwa Yeah, but a give and take though, because I
was then subjected to a fulled out the zoo. You
know there was a Harry Potter exhibit that was on
the table.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
At the zoo.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
No, not at the Zoo separate to the Zoo, and
it was like, all right, if you want to go
to one more league game, we're going to Harry Potter tomorrow.
And I was like, all right, we're not going to the.
Speaker 4 (01:07):
League big musical. Were you subjected to a big musical show? No?
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Although again the Lion King was on just across the
road from me, so that was that was hanging over me.
Speaker 4 (01:16):
There's a lot of negotiation going on time, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
A lot of and that's what relationships are all about.
As I've learned early, is that what massive, massive morning
of sport coming up later on at seven o'clock, the
final of the fief for World Cup is on. Will
be keeping you abreast of that, Deli and I believe
bit down a the pub watching that. So we'll cross
them at about eight. Coming up next, Ryan Fox just
ran the British Open.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
Jerry and then they breakfast six eight on the Hodarcky Breakfast.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Thanks to Bunning's trade build big rewards with the new
power Pass pro rewards, we're gonna go. We're gonna go
again on that.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
Great difficult difficult for radios say that many peace.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
We'll get the build big rewards with new power pass
pro rewards by Bunnings. It's the two rewards too close together.
New Zealand's Ryan Fox has won the British Open at
Royal Birkdale, capturing his first major championship. He has sealed
the one with a twelve foot birdie putt on the
eighteenth hole.
Speaker 5 (02:18):
He has it Ryan Fox Champion Golfer of the Year.
He celebrates and far away and New Zealand celebrates wor
on what a finish, what a way to take it?
The stuff that dreams on mede of.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
It's been a miracul I think it is the biggest comeback,
at least in a major. After two rounds he was
sitting in fifty second place. He then shot what was
tied for the lowest score in men's major history, which
is sixty two. He had a chance to singa put
for the outright Leader and he said, Bargert, I'm just
gonna two part this and carry on. This is miraculous.
(02:57):
He is what we were saying this morning.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
The third second, Michael Kimber won the British Open. He
won the Ueast Open, so just him and Bob Charles.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
Yeah, I mean it's it's absolutely incredible. The way he
did it as well. I was watching some of the highlights.
It wasn't I mean, yes, obviously he played some incredible golf,
but some of the like chips out of bunkers and
shots out of the rough that he had to pull off.
It was the most Ryan Fox win of all time
if you can imagine, you know, he.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
Genuinely shocked when he sinks that final part two.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Well yeah, and I think that's sort of what he
needed to be able to do it, because he did
look ice cold when he was lining that up was
about twelve feet. He was on the phone with someone
afterwards that a camera in his face. You could tell
he was absolutely hating that, and he said, I don't
know how I hit that last part, And I think
it's because I think that's what it takes to head
a twelve foot part like that, because if you were
(03:48):
conscious in anyway, you'd be like, oh, this is too much,
I'm going to do it. But he was just eyes
in the back of the head. You could tell, no
celebration planned.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
No none at all, just a fist in the air.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Yes, Zoe was saying that she she didn't realize that
golf crowds got so fired up because when he hit
that twelve foot part, the stands went absolutely mental. And
then one of the most deflating things in sports. I
hate golf needs to sort this out. They still and
Rory did this when he won the Masters this year
as well. They still have to turn their own carden.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
Oh yeah, it's so deflating.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
So they win, they have the first pump moment, go around,
shake Eyn's hands, congratulations, he's going to a bit more
admin over in the over in the sheds.
Speaker 4 (04:30):
There, and then knock out your shoes, get off the
grass before you go into the clubhouse.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
Yeah, run the hose over them. I mean, what a
what a massive day in sport, I mean a huge
weekend in the sport and just for him to.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
The World Cup Finals, the most watched sporting event on
the planet of course, yes, the World Cup Finals, the
British Open and then New Zealand up playing West Indies
in a one day you know, just all three on
a on a par there.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Yeah, where are we at in the do you know
who we're out in the croocket? Yeah, Westerndy's better.
Speaker 6 (05:00):
First they made one hundred and eighty eight and we're
twenty eight for two. I think because all of the
other games so far have started about six thirty in
the morning and they've been on ESPN on Sky Sport.
But I think someone's missed this one and it hasn't
actually been on TV.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
I tried to watch it's on TV.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
That's not on TV.
Speaker 6 (05:15):
I think someone's like, oh, they're all starting about six
o'clock in the morning, let's just check it on later.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Forgot. It's getting to the point with some of these
overseas black Caps ones where it's going to be like
live streamed on Facebook from just like one on my Space. Yeah,
on an iPhone, just propped up in the corner, like
Club Rugby.
Speaker 6 (05:30):
That happened on that Zimbabwe tourah last year, didn't Everyone
was like, is this a school project?
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Yeah? Is that what's happening?
Speaker 4 (05:36):
He was on three three played cricket.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
I couldn't he memory, but yeah, right, Fox ten under
it beat cam Young nine under Sam Burne Scottish if
we bet everyone, beat the whole lot. And that's what
happens when you win, you bet everyone. So I congratulated
to a massive morning in sport, said Fief. Kicks off
in just fifty minutes.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Jerry and mini hold I keep breakfast anyway.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
A couple of weeks ago and off the off the
side of one of the greens, there was like a
row of houses that backed onto the course and on
one of the backyards there was like a lemonade stand. Yeah,
and I thought, this is this is pretty quaint at
his middle of winter. But you got to respect the
hustle from an entrepreneurial kid. They just want to make
a dollar or something. And I looked over and the
(06:22):
person manning it was fifty. It's just a fifty year
old guy, right, so looking after it for his kids
or something. That's what I thought. And so I was like,
you know what, I just felt a little bit weird
buying lemonade off of a fifty year old man. So
I thought, you know, I'll come back. There'll be kids,
So I, you know, played on you come back past again?
Another one, none of the fearway into six with where
(06:44):
that thing is. This is about an hour later, same guy,
no kids. Where do you stand on buying eliminade from
the lemonade stand operated by a fifty year old man?
Speaker 4 (06:54):
So look, it's tough in this economy. A side hustles,
it is weird. Why is that more weird though than
if he had a coffee cat.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
Oh, that's a good point.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
Why is the lemonade as some just in the realm
of children?
Speaker 3 (07:10):
That is a good point, because I would, for example,
I would buy hot chips or a hot dog off
a fifty year old man. Yes, running a store by himself.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
You'd buy a coffee. You'd buy like if he we
just had some like soft drinks and a and a
and a chill bucket like you get when you overseas.
And yeah, yeah, this dude selling you know, cokes and
buckets a craft beer for sure, certainly that's all old man.
Maybe he was putting a little bit of voca in
the lemonade. Why does that make it more acceptable?
Speaker 3 (07:37):
That does make it more that way, I would have
bought there. But yeah, but just looking at the fifty
year old bloke, I was like it was it was
old school glass picture of yellowy lemonade, like homemade.
Speaker 4 (07:47):
You could tell, I mean that's you know, that's got
some sort of roof in it.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
You'd have to think.
Speaker 7 (07:52):
So I don't know.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
Anyway, I didn't buy it often that it was surprising,
not at all.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
Would you have bought it for fifty year old man,
not the million years.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Jerry in the night, the hold I keep breakfast?
Speaker 3 (08:05):
Who's talking about a lemonade stand that I came across
man by a man in his fifties. Yes, And I
don't know why, but it just made me feel weird
buying lemonade off a man in his fifties.
Speaker 4 (08:17):
Out of context. It's strange, it's unsettling.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
Yeah, and somebody takes her on three four a three
and said, would you buy elemonade off a seventy year
old man?
Speaker 4 (08:24):
Does that make it better? I think there's a tipping
over point, yeah, where it's like it's a cute old.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Man who has regressed as childhood.
Speaker 4 (08:35):
Yeah. I mean we all regress as we get older. Yes,
so that then it's sort of, yeah, it becomes cute.
But there's nothing cute about a fifty year old man.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
No, unless and you raised a good point before. What
if there was vodka and eliminade or a little touch
of gym? Yeah? Yeah, now that that completely changes it.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
I mean it's highly illegal, but you know, let's take
that out of it. I'm not going to ride on him,
no neither.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
But because my point was if it was a beer.
I mean, I only buy craft beer off men in
their fifties.
Speaker 4 (09:04):
They're the ones who know.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
But yes, that's right, that's where I go. I go
to the hipster to get my hair cut, and I
go to the fifty year old guy over the beer
to get my my beers.
Speaker 4 (09:11):
So and to be this though, would it be worse
if it was like a twenty two year old couple
of dudes. You know, that's that's weird, isn't it. Then
you're like kind of pushing their childhood to try and
make a few bucks to buy you know, a bag.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Probably yeah. But also I think part of that was
would be you'd look at those twenty two year old dudes,
go there's something in this. Something Yeah, I don't know
if someone else's text her and said Ryan Fox wins
the Open and Ben Hurley win's tipping point. How good
a coming up on the whole bank you bretest congratulations
and manna to rest that later on in the Shark.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
Yeah, no, it's it's definitely on a path. No.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
Seven o'clock the World Cup Final starts. It is Argentina
versus Spain. How well is that photo of MESSI with lam.
Have you seen that? Yeah, that seems rigged, doesn't it.
Speaker 4 (10:03):
I'd say it's wrecked.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
Yeah, yeah, I don't know. I'll be looking to get
a bathroom. L Minu Mal very shortly as well.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
Jerry and Midnight the Hodiarchy Breakfast Bang on.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
Six thirty on your Monday morning time for your latest
sport headlines. Thanks to export alter the beer here.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
Ryan Fox is the Open Championship winner at the Royal
Birkdale golf Course. He's won by a stroke at under
ten hunder par after sinking a eleven foot birdie put
to finish. Have you got a soundbait? No? I mean
I thought you did. We can go.
Speaker 5 (10:37):
He has its Ryan Fox Champion Golfer of the Year.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
He celebrates and far away New zeroand celebrates work on.
What a finish, What a way to take it? The
stuff that dreams on made of the presumptive. To think
that we were all celebrating with that happened at five
point thirty this morning. Yeah, people will be celebrating as
they wake up. Yeah, it'll be a slow burn, yeah,
because this was a massive come from behind victory. But
(11:05):
this is I mean, that's incredible. It's one of those
ones where it's such a big thing to happen that
it hasn't really sunk in for me yet. You know
it'll be over the next week. You'd be like, oh,
that's right, British.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
It's probably sunk in for Ryan Fox, who earns five
point five million dollars. Do you think you've still coming
on Radiohodaki?
Speaker 6 (11:24):
Yeah, man, yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
Because they had the camera on him after the game,
and he was on his phone obviously in some messages.
I caught a glimpse. I think he's deleting Jerry's number.
Speaker 4 (11:37):
That was Jerry. Jerry tried to call him before he'd
spoken of his own wife. He joins Sabob Charles, Michael Campbell,
and Dame Lydia coe Is and his illldest to win
major championships.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
Well, here's a question. Does that get him a nighthood?
Speaker 4 (11:50):
Oh? Good point? Would he take it?
Speaker 3 (11:51):
Does that get him a night?
Speaker 4 (11:52):
I don't want to take it?
Speaker 8 (11:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (11:54):
Would you take it?
Speaker 4 (11:57):
No, I'd take it?
Speaker 3 (11:58):
Would I'd take it?
Speaker 4 (11:59):
Harvey?
Speaker 7 (11:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (12:00):
Nice?
Speaker 3 (12:01):
Nice, very powerful. I don't know what I's not.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
Going to be a night of the Realm.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
I don't know what would have to happen between now
and then to earn a knighthood, but I can't sending.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
The West Indies have been dismissed for one hundred and
eighty eight. During the fourth oighty I against New Zealand
and Barbados, the Blackheads leave the five game series two
to one and there forty eight. We're forty eight for
three after eleven overs. I know, big news, big news,
a random one day series in the West Indies.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
You know what I'd rather hear about the goalkeeper for Argentina.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
Okay, well, as luck would have it, the Argentinian gold
keeper and Milliano and Martinez is pushing to experience his
second post World Cup winning party in four years. I
love how this is framed around I just want to
have a really good party.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Well and also pushing for it, like does he not
know whether he's playing or not?
Speaker 4 (12:49):
Yeah, he's probably a probably a shilling. Yeah. In two
there beg France for their first triumph of the tournament
since eighty six. It was hand of God?
Speaker 3 (13:00):
Was it the yeah, which which which I believe is
in a semi was it?
Speaker 4 (13:03):
It wasn't a yes? And he went a hand of
God on you see me now? Ahead of meeting Spain
from seven. I'm better than that. I'm sorry, No, I'm not,
Martinez said the scud, determined to relive, relive the memories.
Spain favorites at a dollar sixty two. Yeah, who you got?
(13:25):
I think Spain will win you, I do. I think
it'll be either one an extra time or penalties ruder.
Speaker 7 (13:31):
What are you thinking?
Speaker 6 (13:31):
Oh look, I'm going to go Argentina. Let's send off
the big man?
Speaker 4 (13:35):
Can we can we talk briefly about the insane video
game style score there was yesterday in the third place
playoffs six four Yeah, yes, when you when you're playing
like fee for ninety nine. Yeah, you're like six four
and you're like this. That never happens, Yeah it did.
It happened yesterday. I just the third, the third, such a.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
D shrinker, massive D shrinking third fourth playoff. I reckon.
The script is in, I feel like I feel like
Argentina wins this and sends messy off and and styles
zoey Spain in Argentina Argentina. Okay, so Auckland agree with you.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
I was walking around central Lakland last night and so
many Argentine shirts. Yeah, no Spanish shirts.
Speaker 3 (14:13):
A lot of Argentinians around, a lot of Argentinians around Awkland,
A lot of Argentinians around Sydney. While I was over there,
I saw a bunch of them. I walked into the
game that they won. There was about a thousand of
them celebrating at a pub and manly, absolute vibe. They
really like soccer, they really like not being an Argentina,
it seems everywhere.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
But then Jerry and then they breakfast.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
I think they should take a dame hood offer as well.
I was sex that he had just off here. We
were talking about knighthoods and dame hoods and whether you
would accept on or not. I would accept it in
a heartbeat.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
I think it's weird you to defend the crown. That is,
when you become a night that is your official. It'll
be my honor you have to defend the king. I was,
are you and Elton John? Yes, Mick Jagger Ye kissed Armer,
yea cone? You know those two I would have some
(15:11):
faith very handy, yeah yeah, but not you and me
and maccan.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
Elton, do you get a suit of armor? In fact,
I'm sure they don't assure you one anymore, but you
would be well within your rights to buy a suit
of armor. If you were knited, wouldn't you.
Speaker 4 (15:24):
Well, you've got to kneel down and get the sword
on your side. Would you trust old sausage fingers to
hold that sword and not drop it on your shoulder
and and and slice you up?
Speaker 3 (15:36):
You know what I would? I do trust. Here's here's
something for you, Dame Susan Duvoy. I had a yan too.
And you when you get damed, Yeah, it's it's I
get it getting damed, getting she got damned anyway that
you don't get the sword. Oh, no sword, no sword
(15:58):
if you're one very sexist, very sexist. I was just
saying before I just went over to Sydney. You may
have heard of it. It's a big city out of Southwestralia,
New South Wales. Yeah, capital of the New South Wales.
Also very easily defendable from an age of Empires sort
of standpoint. I can see why they put that city there,
because the harbor it's cliffs, and then the harbor comes.
Speaker 4 (16:20):
Up and in the hells behind it.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
Yeah, and it's like, you know, just a couple of fortifications,
a couple of strategically placed fortifications. Very hard.
Speaker 4 (16:27):
Is this how you judge your city one hundred percent.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
That's how I judge the city.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
Wellington would be quite love Wellington.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
Wellington would be number one.
Speaker 4 (16:37):
Christ shit, you just your hordes are coming over the
planes there quite happily, aren't they.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
Yeah, they are so. I would need quite a large
standing garment at that point if I was going to
defend anyway. That's not what we're here to talk about.
I was warned by a friend of the show, the
notorious Pantsman, Joel Harrison, who lives over in Sydney now,
and I said, to any recommendations rugby league grounds, to
go to pubs whatever, Yeah, this, this and this also,
(17:05):
you'll get to see the homeless people here and I
can't really describe it, but it's something else. You'll see
it when you get here. And I had no idea
what he meant by that.
Speaker 4 (17:13):
Okay, unhoused. I think it's sorry.
Speaker 3 (17:16):
I don't know why we changed that, because it is
an experience, not a state of being. You are temporarily unhoused.
At some point you will go back to being housed,
and it could come for any of us.
Speaker 4 (17:25):
I go with dwelling challenged.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
Okay, well, these people that dwelling challenged doesn't quite sum
up the unhoused community in Sydney because, and this is
the interesting part about them, they are the most well
equipped unhoused community on God's green Earth.
Speaker 4 (17:42):
Do they have payWave that well, just about.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
They all have. They've got these like bivererwack tent sort
of things. Did you see these? They're like canvas tent
things that immaculate's not rubbish around them. They are so
well set up. They will have like their clothes drying here.
They will have set up a little wall. They will
have a like a gas cooker going. One of them
had a Yui boom and it was just playing this
(18:09):
hectic like house music as we were walking past. And
then when the lyrics charge it, great question, he's probably
got solar. And then as we walk past, the lyrics
kicked in and he just started singing with it. It's
scared the Bejesus out of here. And it turns out
that I saw an ad on the TV and some
beverwet company there as basically you can buy one and
(18:31):
donate it to an unhoused person and then and then
what that does is they can then create an entire
basically dwelling around around this bevy that they're under. It's
the most incredible thing. They some of them are better
equipped than like Auckland townhouses. Like I said, I reckon
they got solar cooking things. Not often are they begging.
(18:52):
They actually don't want for anything, you know, because that's
so well set up. It's a bit warmer there than
here as well. I mean it rains more, but that's
probably why the I guess, Yeah, but I just I
was looking at it and I was like, geez, not
such a bad experience being unhoused in Sydney.
Speaker 4 (19:06):
Is it really jealous of an unhoused persons?
Speaker 3 (19:10):
I would probably rather be an unhoused person in Sydney.
Speaker 4 (19:13):
Just about the house person and Auckland.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
Jerry and mind the hold ikey breakfast.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
Wow, they've just wheeled Tom Cruise out into the field football. Yeah,
so they are were about ten minutes away from kickoff
in the final of the fee for World Cup. And
because it's in America, it's at an NFL stadium and
they've got Tom Cruise standing on.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
A box and he, I mean he's used to standing
on a box. He has to do it when he acts,
yes with any woman that's over five foot sex.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
I think running runs. We might talk about that later on,
but Zoe's in the studio this morning. Morning, Zoe, good morning,
welcome back to you. You also went over to Australia,
you had left in the country. Yeah, well, how how
did you consider not coming back to New Zealand after that?
Speaker 9 (20:04):
Yeah? Look, yeah I did, but I had to face
a bit of a moral dilemma on the way back.
You know, you can watch like on the little screens
movies and whatnots. And I had like a twelve year
old kid sitting on my right, and I was like,
what movie am I going to watch here? I'm going
to make it questionable, Like I wanted to watch like
Wuthering Heights, but I'd heard there was a few like
(20:26):
raunchy scenes in there.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
You believe there is inappropriate.
Speaker 9 (20:29):
If there's a twelve years old, they.
Speaker 4 (20:30):
Say please consider younger people around here.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
Yeah, there's a warning on before the movie. It's like, hey,
this movie's got some pretty intense, hectic sort of hand
stuff and that. So if you yeah to horror or horror, yeah, lence,
And then they go make sure that there's like this
is appropriate for anyone who may be able to see
you screen. I'm sort of of the opinion like, I
(20:54):
don't know, we don't put it on there. Then if
you don't want me to watch it.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
Well it depends what the inline too, because in New Zealand,
I don't think really edit their films, whereas I've flown
Singapore recently and they definitely do. And so I was
going to watch Buthering Heights and didn't because I was
in Singapore because I didn't want to miss out on
the raunchy stuff, the hectic stuff. Yeah, I hector Ken stuff.
Apparently Maga rubbing on a rock.
Speaker 3 (21:18):
I've heard I from you.
Speaker 4 (21:24):
Mentioned Join Johnson and Buthering Heights.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
So what in the end did you decide to go
with Kung Fu Panda or something?
Speaker 2 (21:33):
Yeah, Like didn't end.
Speaker 9 (21:35):
Up watching it because I just felt a bit awkward
because and then they are like, you know, they're looking
at your screen.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (21:39):
If I was twelve, i'd definitely be looking at the
adult screen next to me.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
Does it change whether you know the twelve because I
feel like if it's your kid that's sitting next to you,
going to be far more likely to be like, oh,
I'm not going to watch it. But if it's like
some random k I don't know.
Speaker 4 (21:54):
I definitely so often traveling overseas with my kids and
I've definitely just had to put both hands over the
screen eight points, which sucks because.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
On it Yeah, exactly. Well, it's not a great time
to watch some movies. So for example, we were on
an immer Its flight and Lane watched the Bohemian Rhapsody film,
which is the Freddie Mercury docco and we landed and
it was just like, the hell was that movie? Nothing
happened And it's like they had edited all.
Speaker 4 (22:22):
Of the stuff out about his sexuality, about his sexuality
and similar Bahemian raps. You're like, ah, they just said
Freddy Mercury was married with three children.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
Yeah, and they just they signed a record deal and
that was about it. A similar thing happen, Yeah, a
similar thing happened when that movie came out of a
friend of mine who lived in someone at the time
went to go and watch the movie and they they
they sense of that stuff too, and as a country generally, right,
they sense of that kind of thing. But obviously the
movie company hadn't sent them a sensored version of it,
(22:56):
and so when the movie started, you know, a scene
starts playing out. Then all of a sudden, sorry, guys,
we've had a power cut. We'll be We're working on
getting it back up and running. Then all of a sudden,
a couple of minutes later, banged back up and running,
and it skipped forward about ten minutes.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
Jerry and the Night, The Hodarchy Breakfast, Jeremy Wells and
the Nice Stuart the Darchy Breakfast.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
So Saturday Night, the All Blacks. They made it three
from three in the Nation's Championship, which I'm actually enjoying
the format of. They beat Ireland forty to twenty one,
extending their unbeaten run at Eden Park two fifty three
tests since nineteen ninety four. One man who was there
joining us now to talk about the game. Sky Sports
commentator disgraced former Holander, Joey Weller, joins us now, Good morning, Joey.
(23:42):
How are you going?
Speaker 4 (23:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (23:43):
Good, thanks mate, Yeah, fired up after the weekend for
it played, Buddy, Well.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
Yeah, were you expecting forty to twenty one?
Speaker 8 (23:50):
No, it certainly wasn't, I thought. The Irish, I think
that'll be really disappointed with that performance. First and foremost,
the Irish, I caught up with a good made of
mine and think coach of the Irish side, Andrew Goodman
before the game, and you got the sense that they
thought they could come down here and upset that record
of fifty two tests in a row. And however manybody
(24:12):
years it's been since we've lost it at Eden Park.
But it wasn't the case, and the All Backs put
on nothing short of a clinic like. It was an
exceptional watch the way that they are playing the game
at the moment, and it all seemed to click pretty nicely. So, yeah,
a great result for the All Blacks and timely going
into this South African Greatest rivalry series.
Speaker 4 (24:36):
Yeah, morning, Joey, it's been Hurley here, Ben Hurley. How
are you mate?
Speaker 8 (24:41):
You know mate, really well.
Speaker 4 (24:43):
Big big Union head me. So I've got a big
question about about this. Ireland seemed to be our big
rivals in world rugby there for a few years. But
are they on the slide?
Speaker 8 (24:57):
It does look a little bit that way. They're probably
not as competitive as they once were, still three in
the world, number three in the world, but you have
to say probably since the likes of Peter o'mony, Johnny
sixth and probably since twenty twenty three, I've gone backwards
a little bit more than maybe what we might have
(25:18):
might have done. And obviously, coming down here, we haven't
played them since twenty two from memory down here where
they won that series. I think that's what's sort of
sharpened that rivalry. But yeah, the way they played in
the weekend, we are we thoroughly will we be really
really disappointed with that because yeah, they've been a little
bit clunky at the start of this nation's championship against
(25:40):
the Italian van Also, the Japanese haven't been overly convincing,
so you know, we're having a good look in the mirror,
that's for sure. And the Rocks will be under the
thing under the beachwer well, they haven't a breakdown under.
Speaker 3 (25:55):
Yeah, yeah, three games under the belt. Now, Joey, what's
your what's your impression of the Dave Reay era.
Speaker 8 (26:02):
I'm enjoying it. I think, you know, there's that old
catch word that gets getting thrown around playing with optimism
and brutality, and I think we can we're starting to
see it, and I think they're starting to get their
balance pretty right. In the weekend. Yeah, I think that
the game drivers and Roy guard Love and Damien McKenzie
(26:23):
seemed to strike strike a really nice tone between their
kicking game and keaven a crack. So I'm really enjoying
it at the moment. I think the real litmus test
boys is going to come when the guys get to
the Republic. The Satnifiicans have rotated their squad over the
last three weeks and every single game and have been
super convincing against everyone. So I think we don't want
(26:47):
to count our chickens till till they hatch. But yeah,
there's some real positive signs, and I think over the
next two months that's where this all black side is
really going to be tested, and that's when we're really
going to know exactly where we stand in terms of
challenging the top dog.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Some of the worries me, Joe, and I know it
worries you as well as that for the second time
in the last three weeks, we have been out mulleted
by a foreign nation again, this time by a second roller.
What's going on her? Is it in our team that
needs to step up? Because this is not weird?
Speaker 8 (27:19):
Called out to grow? Yes, I made mention to him,
Buddy Reckons due to the due to all the cuts
on his swede he keeps getting. He's having to keep
the lid. He's kept having to keep the lid nice
and short and sharp on the side, back at short
back in side. So yeah, I'd actually love to see Demo.
You know, he's a gaul Land as well, and also
(27:39):
but he also can put a foot in the private
schooling camp as well, bang a christ College old boy.
So I'd actually like to see Damo go back to
his Gore roots and go full Moulay with that lovely
smile of her. He would be the one to take
it to another level.
Speaker 4 (27:55):
Joe, We've been talking this morning about whether you would
buy lemonade from a lemonade stand a manned by a
fifty year old man. We we think that's slightly, you know, unsettling.
Would it be more unsettling if he gave you a
little Damien mackenzie smile while he handed you hit the cup?
Speaker 8 (28:15):
I'd probably play double.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
What I'm hearing from you, Joe, is it's a time
for a Mullet based selection to take over the cell.
Speaker 8 (28:22):
I'd like to see that. I'd like to see that
optimism and Mullet's next day, Rennie.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
Yeah, brilliant. All right, thanks very much. There's always for
your time, Joey Willer disgraced for Behinland. Its treat as
always to talk to you fellows.
Speaker 2 (28:34):
Thanks, good on your mate, Jerry and the hot I
keep breakfast.
Speaker 3 (28:40):
Twelve minutes gone and the fifth Will Cup Final scores
are still nil or I expect them to stay that
way for the next forty minutes.
Speaker 4 (28:47):
They seem to be doing a lot of fiddling around
at the back, a.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
Lot of fiddling around to the back, a lot of
fiddling around the back. Over the weekend, we're just talking
to Joe Wheeler about the All Blacks. I noticed that
they started doing a thing to a rugby games where
they get the whose who of New Zealand celebrities on
the sideline.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
I let you do it NBA games.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
Yes, yeah, they started doing that. They also they've also
cottoned on that if they put all the influencers sideline,
then that's how they get their media coverage. So you
would have seen over the weekend that anyone with more
than twenty thousand Instagram followers was all sitting sideline at
the All Blacks. Interesting and so then that that way
the coverage is just that's taking them that long to
figure that out.
Speaker 4 (29:23):
We need to up our numbers.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
I've tried. That's not working, and I got a big rack.
But the thing is, you think i'd had more. I
I was watching Obviously they had Carl urban Uber, they
had Carlos Olberg. They couldn't tell the two of them
apart because the names are too similar.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
They had.
Speaker 3 (29:44):
Jason Momore was sitting there. Yeah, And I noticed in
a topic and I noticed that just man, people swoon
over Jason Momore even they play very popular with the ladies,
and he is. He's very out and about He's very
out about you. I don't think there's anyone in the
country hasn't seen him in the flesh.
Speaker 4 (30:02):
No, He's very visual. And there's a Japanese restaurant in
Queen Street he seems to live at called Tanuki's, Yes.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
Next to the comedy club.
Speaker 4 (30:11):
Yeah, Yeah, he's there. Him and Cliff Curtis are there
all the time. They've got their own little booth. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
So I was wondering because whenever he's here, the people
just particularly won't swoon over him. I was thinking, like,
if his address got leaked online, the amount of people
that would be outside his door queued up around the corner.
Speaker 4 (30:32):
Well, TKI's is three one nine Queen.
Speaker 3 (30:34):
Street and he has a standing reservation. So I thought,
who if you would if you were to post the
Kiwi Blokes like who are the hot birds in the country?
If you had to post a Kiwi Blokes address on online.
Speaker 4 (30:50):
Who would have people literally out their front door?
Speaker 3 (30:52):
Who would have the longest queue around the corner?
Speaker 4 (30:54):
Two words, Simon Barnett.
Speaker 3 (30:57):
I hadn't thought that. And as soon as you see
to a certain demographic, yes, anyone whose landline used to
start in three four and then anyone over a certain
age bracket as well.
Speaker 4 (31:13):
Correct in faith, probably true.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
He's got the faith part of it as well. Also,
I don't think he would be restricted to one gender
in terms of suitors potentially showing up outside. For me,
I was going to throw to Mighty Martin in the mix.
Speaker 4 (31:30):
So here's the thing about Tomurdy Martin, who's a half
pack for the Warriors. He is obviously incredibly handsome. When
we were in Vegas last year the Warriors played in Vegas,
he wasn't even in the starting side, yet they used
him on all the billboards, all the marketing everywhere. He
has absolute rockstar good looks.
Speaker 3 (31:49):
Yeah, I heard every slot machine just had his face
came up if you hit the jackpot.
Speaker 7 (31:54):
He is.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
He's really starting to annoy me because did you see
him on the post match shows.
Speaker 4 (31:58):
He's charming as well.
Speaker 3 (31:59):
He's fun.
Speaker 4 (32:00):
You're like, I thought he was dumb, be dumb.
Speaker 3 (32:03):
I thought he was done.
Speaker 4 (32:04):
He has to be charming at that when you look
like that, But he is.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
It really annoys me. He is And I've always said
this about to Mighty Mutton. He is how I'm going
to describe myself to my kids. Like, yeah, so back
in the day, I just put a hunting of fish
and just sort of, you know, go and get a ball,
get a stag, whatever, and then on the weekends I'd
play but a league for the Warriors. Yeah yeah, twenty
three three, Yeah, tip into the championship and blah blah blah.
(32:27):
He is the man that I say that I am,
and it really annoys me. So yeah, three four O three.
I reckon who if they were If there were addresses
published online of a male s of a hot dude,
watch one of them would have the longest cue around
the corner getting touched. Three four O three or oh
hae hundred.
Speaker 4 (32:45):
Hidarkys, Jeremy Wells quiet, that's quiet, Jason hoo.
Speaker 3 (32:52):
He gives me a ragel on the three.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
For Oath three Jerry and Mni the Hodkey Breakfast.
Speaker 3 (32:58):
We were talking about hottes. If you were to publish
the address of some of the hottest duds in the country,
which one of them would have the longest line of
suitors out the door? I reckon to Mighty Martin, you
had a great one in Simon Bartnett.
Speaker 4 (33:13):
Yeah, I do it to a specific demographic.
Speaker 3 (33:16):
Well, well, I think broad appeal. I agree for Simon Barnett. Okay,
I I know a Cantabrian woman loves to see Simon
Barnett coming.
Speaker 4 (33:23):
There's been a lot of texts coming through, Yes, mostly
from men actually, which is you know progressive Blair, Chuke Sailor, Yes, Yes, Yes,
Hello Sailor, Blear one on every port Chuke Marie Deka.
I didn't think it might be a joke that way.
Speaker 3 (33:43):
Knowledge is sexy, Yeah, true, And anytime you can bring
a plunger into the equation and second to the top
of his head.
Speaker 4 (33:50):
He also was a spokesperson for the Magna Bed that's right. Yeah,
so you know, well, I don't know what might happen
in the magna bed.
Speaker 3 (33:57):
What is the magna bed if not a marital aid?
So you would have to thank a generous lover. Someone
ticks her on three four o three Leaking leslie head
stats would cause significant traffic layers. Leehart for real, the
voice and looks and humor. Yes, please, peeving through the bushes?
Oh goodness, how about this one? The nick minute guy?
Speaker 4 (34:18):
Oh, okay, you don't want to be in a romantic
situation known as the minute. Go no, you don't.
Speaker 3 (34:28):
They felt very from experience. Another one here, Jason Gunn,
Jason Jason Gunn. Maybe that's Jerry Brownlee and Jason Hoyd
again gives me.
Speaker 10 (34:41):
A rageous content that you won't find on the radio
show The Hurdaki Breakfast.
Speaker 3 (34:46):
Podcastty five minutes gone in the final it is still
nil all. I've spent half of the game rolling around
on the floor, and before the game.
Speaker 4 (34:56):
Tom Cruise for some reason, Tom Cruise sixty four, I
think we discovered before four years old jet black hair.
Very impressive, suspicious, although very suspicious so as a man
who's rapidly graying, if not completely gray myself. I've noticed,
you know, I've started to notice who is who's dying
(35:18):
and who's not right yep, you know. And the thing
is with men's head eye is it used to be
really easy to spot because we're men, right, We don't
do anything properly promptly. We don't go to a hairdresser
and get it done properly. We just get asked for help. Yeah. Correct,
We go to the supermarket and get a twelve dollars
box dice and do it yourself. And a lot of
(35:42):
a lot of men wreckage races a shocker. He I
think he's gone gray now, but for years he was
just doing the jet black. No one's here is that color?
Speaker 3 (35:50):
No, that's that's usually how I can tell, as if
I see a man over a certain age and his
heir is blacker than mine.
Speaker 4 (35:56):
Yeah, so you've got very dark here I.
Speaker 3 (35:58):
Do, which means you can see the grays. But I
don't have a heap of them, no yet, you know, no,
But it'll get there. But I think that's the hard
part is it's it's the in between. It's when you're
starting to go a little bit and then you're going
to make the decision what am I going to do
about it?
Speaker 4 (36:14):
Yeah, because you can't just like if suddenly I came
in tomorrow and my hair was black and my beard
was black, Yes, you'd go, what's happened there?
Speaker 3 (36:21):
Not to your face when you left the room.
Speaker 4 (36:27):
Died here on a man is replaced spotting a two
pay because no one has a two pay anymore, right, Na.
Speaker 3 (36:33):
No, I don't think that's really I but I used
to think that I could spot it really, really clearly.
But I feel like I haven't seen it in a
long time now. Is that because people aren't doing it
as often?
Speaker 4 (36:43):
I think it's I think I think it's a combination.
I think maybe the technology has improved. Really, I think
there's it's less likely that you're going to notice it
now because either the men are going to a head
dresser and actually getting done properly, or the box die
has got better.
Speaker 3 (37:00):
Yeah, someone just text her and said Tom Cruise has
all those thetans keeping him young. I know someone who
and I'm not going to say what relation they are
to me, but it's very close, about as close as
you can be related to someone who worked in a
large mining company. If that things it out anymore, and
and they do like the shift changeover in between the
twelve hour shifts. Night shift just finished. He comes in
(37:22):
for the pre show check. They go pre show, pre
pre shift, chick, Hey, there's been a slip over there.
Don't go over there. This machines out of uston't use
who don't you hit? In front of like a hundred
and something people, And he's sitting up the front of No, no,
the whole shift sitting there looking at him. So, yeah,
(37:44):
I don't know. It must be getting better, is it.
Speaker 4 (37:47):
I didn't mean to no, no, No, It's something I've
never really considered because I think I've just noticed it
too much and got oh man, it looks so silly. Yeah,
but just don't go jet back if you're going to.
Speaker 3 (37:59):
Do it ready you've had a a yeah. Look, I
had her in my early forties on it, and to
be fair, no one.
Speaker 6 (38:07):
Nobody really called me out about it, because I think
it was actually quite a good job. It was one
of those ones that you wash your hair through and
you've got the stupid gloves otherwise your hands go black.
And I thought I thought, if it wasn't for those
damn kids, I was getting away with it. And then
I went to a party and this girl hadn't seen
me for a while, and she was just looking at
me for about good five minutes, and then she goes,
(38:28):
what have you done to your eyebrows?
Speaker 7 (38:30):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (38:30):
Your eyebrows.
Speaker 6 (38:31):
The eyebrows were a thing that gave me away because
the eyebrows were a little bit lighter than the here
and she thought, and I was like, well, that's it then,
because I'm not going to then go and do my eye.
Speaker 4 (38:40):
Eyebrows and then you know, if you've got any kind
of beard or stubble or anything like, you got to
do that and then you know then but then the
sky's the limit with how much you need to die?
Are we putting a rent through our body? Here?
Speaker 3 (38:55):
That's a oh my god, the miss has found a
gray chest here on me the other day.
Speaker 4 (38:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (38:59):
Wow, just about the end of it. Just about the
end of it.
Speaker 2 (39:03):
Jerry and Mini the hold ikey breakfast cool.
Speaker 3 (39:06):
Now to play it's academic. We will ask you five questions.
All you need to do is get free correct to

this country.
Speaker 4 (39:22):
Goodness, is it true?
Speaker 3 (39:23):
That's true?
Speaker 4 (39:24):
Yep, because catch a million to we catch a million.
Speaker 3 (39:29):
Never call it and all the lotto winners a hoax.
So this is the biggest cash prize ever given out.
Five hundred and fifty dollars worth of Bunnings vouchers. We're
bankrupting the company this morning. Give us a call now
and we go to Greg from christ Here. Good morning, Greg.
Are you going?
Speaker 8 (39:46):
Yeah? Good? Thank you, guys, tell you good, thank you?
What Greg?
Speaker 3 (39:49):
What?
Speaker 2 (39:49):
What?
Speaker 3 (39:50):
What line of work are in? Greg? I will work
at the hospital here, you work at the hospital.
Speaker 4 (39:56):
I mean that's that's quite a range of different roles.
You could be a doctor, you could be a janitor.
Speaker 11 (40:03):
Yeah, I'm the former.
Speaker 8 (40:05):
I'm the doctor.
Speaker 4 (40:06):
You're a doctor of what can you tell us or
is it?
Speaker 8 (40:11):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (40:12):
Yeah, I'm a lung physician, a respiratory physician.
Speaker 4 (40:15):
We were just talking about my smoking.
Speaker 8 (40:20):
We don't need to go this, Greg, prescription for some
some pictures if you like.
Speaker 3 (40:27):
I'm not about to be honest with the doctor about
my smoking habits. For the first time on, Greig, what
school will you be representing?
Speaker 8 (40:35):
Andrew's College?
Speaker 4 (40:36):
Oh, you're not on the list. Not on the list
on the last, still be a first.
Speaker 3 (40:40):
Any famous alumni from Stack, Greg, Oh, there's.
Speaker 4 (40:46):
Been a few.
Speaker 8 (40:46):
All Blake's Albi Anderson being Blair have the good cricketers,
Zach Folks.
Speaker 4 (40:55):
Oh wow, Well, you'll be added to the list of
alumni of illustrious alumna if you win this five hundred
and fifty dollars.
Speaker 3 (41:02):
Yea, there's not enough to be a doctor at the hospital.
You need to work one.
Speaker 8 (41:05):
Correct.
Speaker 4 (41:05):
A Waki game show literally saving lives. But wacky game
show trumps that. I believe. I believe. We're just going
to start. You need to three out of five? Here agreed,
Here we go complete the nineteen ninety four movie title
ace Ventura Be Detective. Correct. Which planet now Solar System
(41:27):
has the most moons? Jupiter Incorrect? Which Sesame Street character
was only seen by Big Bird until nineteen eighty five.
Speaker 8 (41:40):
Not Lopigus?
Speaker 4 (41:41):
Correct? Which Kiwi band had the nineteen ninety two album
something beginning with C.
Speaker 2 (41:52):
Exponents?
Speaker 3 (41:53):
It is correct.
Speaker 4 (41:54):
He's done it. He's done it. Oh, congratulations, Greig the
doctor from Christ Church five hundred and fifty dollars. Your
last question was going to be who is the only
newsal and crecketed to score three hundred in a test match?
Speaker 3 (42:14):
It would be Brendan McCallum. Correct would be And the
planet in our solar system that has the most moons
was Saturn. Yeah, actually it is Seturn. It's still settin.
Speaker 4 (42:23):
Try and bone up on your astronomy please, Greg.
Speaker 8 (42:27):
Yeah, thank you.
Speaker 3 (42:28):
Guys, and enjoy your next trip to Bunny's made five
hundred and fifty bucks worth the Bunny's bouches coming your way. Incredible.
Speaker 2 (42:37):
Jerry and the Night the Hoarchy Breakfast.
Speaker 10 (42:41):
Jerryan and I are joined the complayt the Hodaki Breakfast
discussion group on Facebook.
Speaker 3 (42:46):
For thirty four hours since the halftime show started the
FIFA World Cup, there's still going another air being played.
Are you missing out on? Absolutely nothing? Although I was
just checking the tab, which is my job, all right,
stop judging me. Dialogue fifty seven Spain. They've actually come
down as the as the game has progressed.
Speaker 4 (43:05):
What so forty five minutes of fiddling around at the back, Yeah,
and they've somehow TV said enough to that.
Speaker 3 (43:13):
I reckon I reckon.
Speaker 4 (43:14):
They saw nothing.
Speaker 3 (43:16):
The evidence that no one substitution, though, which I think
may have changed things, is very early. You don't really
see the substall about the ninetieth minute gas. Yeah, it's
been good. Uh. Something that you brought up in the
group chat last night I really found really tickled beat
was tough guys with not tough names.
Speaker 4 (43:36):
Yeah. So if you're a Warriors fan, you'll know that
one of the one of the toughest guys in the
Warriors and just those huge yards and minutes every week
is a guy called Eron And you're like, oh, maybe
that's spelt differently. No, e er I Eron.
Speaker 3 (43:53):
Yes. So when whenever we interview Warriors players, we always
ask them who's got the biggest bench squad? Did lift?
Speaker 4 (44:01):
Yeah? The big three? Uh?
Speaker 3 (44:02):
And they all answer Aaron every single time. All you
got to do'st of them.
Speaker 4 (44:07):
Yeah. Yeah, And he's fat and does big minutes, big yards,
he's tattooed. He looks like a nice guy as well.
Speaker 3 (44:14):
But yeah, tough airs but scary. And his name's yeah Aaron,
which sounds like a four.
Speaker 4 (44:20):
Year old girl.
Speaker 3 (44:21):
It does, it does, it's but he is the latest.
Speaker 4 (44:24):
I wouldn't say that to his face.
Speaker 3 (44:27):
God, no, I would say hiding behind a microphone, for sure.
But he's the latest in a long line. I think
of rugby league players in particular, who are tough, scary
dudes that don't have tough, scary sounding names.
Speaker 4 (44:40):
I mean, don't have to go too far back in
the Warriors, there was a bloke called Stacy. When you're
talking about Stacy's mom, he's got it going on. That's
not about a boy I.
Speaker 3 (44:52):
Don't know another man named Stacy. No.
Speaker 4 (44:55):
I went to score with two guys called two different
guys called Kylie what yeah they were, and they were
both quite tough dudes. One was a big farm boy,
and they were quite tough dudes. And no one ever
said anything about the fact they had the same name,
same spelling, Yeah, like Minogue, yeah yeah, And no one
(45:19):
ever brought that up to their faces either.
Speaker 3 (45:21):
Never, You've got to be a pretty tough sucker to
get away with that. What about I'll give you Montgomery, Bethan.
We talked to him about this briefly a while ago.
I was you and Montgomery's like, yeah, sort of tried
to hide that in an earlier part of my career.
But you know, once he knocked enough dudes out on
the field. Montgomery, that's sort of a different thing, isn't it.
That's not a traditional girl's name. That's just a traditional
(45:42):
fancy guy's name. Yes, you think like Montgomery Bethan. It
sounds like you would have a silk scarf. Yeah, exactly.
It doesn't suit them, but yeah, any other ones you
can think of any other tough, scary bastards with.
Speaker 4 (45:55):
I just don't know when, Like when there's somebody going
to be packing down the front row for the Warriors
called Christine.
Speaker 3 (46:03):
Someone sticks there on three four eight three guys look
up Shirley Crabtree. Surely I think, I, Well.
Speaker 4 (46:09):
He's a Shurley Boys High School and what he was
in christ Church there is Yeah, it's still there, I
believe so.
Speaker 3 (46:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (46:16):
And they're the laughing stock of christ Church as I understand. Yep, yeah, oh.
Speaker 3 (46:19):
Surely girls is it? I'm going to take three four
eight three year a hard bastard of a soft name.
Love to hear from you.
Speaker 1 (46:27):
Jerry andman Knight The Hiarchy Breakfast All beg Welcome into
the Radio Hadarchy Breakfast Show.
Speaker 3 (46:34):
A member of Coeens of the stone Age, one of
the highest played bands on our station, probably my favorite
band of all time. I hate to start the interview
that way, Mikey, but that I'm going to it's Mikey
Schuman based player from Queens of the Stone Age. Where
do we find you in the world this morning, Mikey, Well.
Speaker 7 (46:48):
I gotta said. That could have been a lot worse intro.
So I take all the compliments that you got. I'm
at home in Los Angeles and.
Speaker 3 (46:55):
That's where as most of the band based in La
or are you guys sort of spread out a bit.
Speaker 7 (46:59):
There's the three of us that live here. John and
Dean do not, and that's why we like them less.
Speaker 3 (47:05):
Yeah, that's fair enough. Speaking of John, we made a
video a while ago was dumb Golf Lingo and we
just read out a bunch of them made a video
posted that John actually re shared that is it big golfer.
Speaker 7 (47:18):
I don't know if he's a big golfer, but I
will say the last time we were in England, we
stayed at some like weird countryside place before I festaw
and we definitely went and did eighteen halls.
Speaker 3 (47:30):
I was watching an de view with you the other
day and I heard the band that I think first
got you listened to punk music, and it's a band
that we play a lot of, but I think it
surprised a couple of listeners when they heard was it
Green Day was the first band that sort of really
got you into punk or rock music?
Speaker 7 (47:47):
Yeah, it was my first show, first show you saw. Yeah,
I was in third grade, so what's that?
Speaker 4 (47:54):
Like?
Speaker 7 (47:54):
Seven? And I just got a electric guitar and I
went to the Omniac tour in Anaheim and it was bonkers.
Speaker 3 (48:03):
I mean, you were seven by that stage. But you
get into it pretty early, didn't you.
Speaker 7 (48:06):
I did I start? I got like once I saw Greendown,
MTV and Nirvana. I got an electric guitar and switched
away from piano lessons. I started writing songs immediately. That
was it, Like I knew I want. I started like
a fake band, you know at that age, and started
writing songs.
Speaker 3 (48:22):
Then and when did you switch, because you see you
started on the on the guitar, When did you switch
from guitar over to bass.
Speaker 7 (48:28):
That was when I was fourteen or fifteen and I
started a band that was called The Fallen, which we
changed to Wires on Fire, And that was like my
first like real band where we like put records out
and toured. There was two guitar players and they were
just like, well, we need someone to play bass, and
I was like, good, it was the best decision I made.
Speaker 3 (48:45):
I think you've been with the band for so long
that people would probably forget that there was a time
you weren't in it. How does someone get into Queens
of the Stunage? Was there like an open audition? Does
someone call you? What's the process?
Speaker 7 (48:57):
Yeah, it's been about twenty years. I was that band
Wire was on fire, and I had made a record
with Alan Johannis and Natasha Schneider, who were the touring
members just to fill in when Nick left. And so
I was making that record and they would come home
and be pretty burnt out from touring. And then when
Queens was looking for a bass player, they were like,
you should check out this kid. I was twenty one
(49:19):
at the time. Joey and Troy and Josh when saw
my band play and then I came, they said like,
I want to come and play some songs. And I
learned five songs and after three Josh said you want
to be in the band?
Speaker 4 (49:32):
YEP? This is that mean? Yeah?
Speaker 9 (49:33):
It was?
Speaker 7 (49:33):
I mean look, there were there were some I think
some like mental tests and hanging out and barbecues and
like just seeing if I could hang. Yeah, as most
band people know, it's like it's more about the hang
than it is about the technical ability. You got to
be a good dude and like be able to just like,
you know, live with people. That's what you're doing right, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (49:48):
Because ninety percent of the time I presume is you
guys just hanging around and strain. You probably don't even
know the town you're in half the time. What do
you guys do when you're not playing gigs? Like, how
do you guys pass that time?
Speaker 7 (49:57):
We hang out with each other?
Speaker 3 (49:59):
You sick of it?
Speaker 7 (49:59):
Chi na man? I mean we're still like Josh and
Din are on vacation together right now. It's like we're
always together. We're always hanging out and we are like
a family. And I think it's very unique when you
see how other bands operate.
Speaker 3 (50:11):
When I come home from the pub after a couple
of responsible beers, I park up on the catch and
I put a quins in the Steinage get going on YouTube.
When you come home from the pub after a couple
of responsible beers.
Speaker 4 (50:22):
What do you put on.
Speaker 7 (50:24):
Wow, that's cool, I go Survivor. I did like fifty
seasons in like a year Jesus, because I hadn't watched
them before, and I just I was like, oh shit,
this is amazing, and just like kept going.
Speaker 3 (50:35):
I just took them all down on hotel runs across
the world. That's right, you guys are coming back to
New Zealand. You were here a couple of years ago,
Keeming suits and kroshchitch. Do you have any memories of
coming to New Zealand anything you're looking forward to saying
again when you get down.
Speaker 7 (50:48):
Here, Man, I have so many memories. I love New
Zealand so much. It was actually like the place on
the map when I was a kid that I was like,
if you could live anywhere in the world, where would
you live. And I always said New Zealand, maybe because
it's so far and I had no idea what it
was like. Now that I do know what it's like,
I still would move there. Yeah. And I don't know
why everyone's not buying all of your land up, or
maybe they are.
Speaker 3 (51:08):
No, Yeah, that's exactly what's.
Speaker 4 (51:09):
Going on down here.
Speaker 3 (51:10):
They're buying up all the land wedding for the apocalypse,
but all type the money.
Speaker 7 (51:13):
Just kind of mayhem like. Touring down there, it just
feels very loose. It's always a party and people are
up for it. I think because we come down there rarely,
people just really ready to like have a great time.
I don't know. I don't know if I can get
into a specific memory.
Speaker 3 (51:25):
No, And also any specific region that you shout out,
you're going to puzzle the rest of them off. So
it's probably the best that you don't. Thanks very much
for your time, mate, I really appreciate it and look
forward to seeing you when you get down here.
Speaker 7 (51:36):
Likewise, thanks man, I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (51:38):
Jerry and Mini. The hod Ikey Breakfast.
Speaker 7 (51:42):
Earlies through round up news you can.
Speaker 4 (51:46):
Get in mid Ashburton Santa Parade has been rescued by
the community after a wave of donations and new sponsors
reversed it's cancelation within forty eight hours.
Speaker 3 (51:57):
Wow that they are very early on the Santa Parade,
but they had already canceled it. They already canceled it
six months out.
Speaker 4 (52:05):
Saying it was it was too expensive. But organizer Carol
John's announced on Monday the parade would not go ahead
after failing to secure a major sponsor and receiving only
half of the council grants she requested. By Wednesday, more
than three and a half thousand dollars have been donated
a new sponsors to come forward, allowing planning for the
December fifth parade to resume.
Speaker 3 (52:24):
Sorry, give me that number again. What does it cost
to run the Santa Parade?
Speaker 4 (52:28):
Three and a half grand?
Speaker 3 (52:29):
Three and a half?
Speaker 4 (52:31):
No, get on board with the doctor who won. Let's
academic could check that in the in the pot there ye.
Speaker 3 (52:37):
Entirely named after him. Oh Rick Card in the FIFA
Football World Cup Final, He's shaking his fingers. It's not
going to matter, Fernandez. That's the end of him. And
right and with two minutes to go, Yeah, he gone,
he gone, Miss He's gone over to say something. Trump's
just walked down into the field. She's all going. I
(53:00):
almost lost an arm at the Ashburson Santa Parade.
Speaker 4 (53:03):
Really, I didn't realize you had a personal.
Speaker 3 (53:07):
I I was down there and they had one of
those you know, the slides, the bouncy trampoline slides, the
inflatable slide thing went down there and just got the
most horrific, like carpet burn sliding down. It was like
basically the entire forum. Oh really, now, would it shock
you to learn that those things aren't really that hygienic
(53:27):
and there are a few germs on those.
Speaker 4 (53:31):
I heard like in the next couple of weeks you
almost lost an half.
Speaker 3 (53:35):
Yes, they were saying they were going to have to
amputate it and that they'd never seen that kind of comeback,
and that I must be made of stern and.
Speaker 4 (53:41):
Stuff, intravenous antibiotics kind of deal.
Speaker 3 (53:45):
Oh jeez, the whole the whole lot. I mean, the
doctor had the SRA, he was ready to go, but
not mate a miraculous recovery.
Speaker 4 (53:51):
TV indeed has issued an apology to the Gore District
Council over an incorrect statement broadcast last month. Considering local
government amalgamation, TV INTE Complaints Committee upheld a formal complaint
from the council regarding the inaccurate statement broadcast on One
News on June third. The One News report incorrectly stated
Gore and Southern Districts had already agreed to merge. The
(54:13):
committee found the statement breached the accuracy of the standard
of broadcasts. Whatever Core district mayor Ben Boo said in
a statement that it was important to provide the correct
information for the future of local government.
Speaker 3 (54:27):
Well, I kind of think anyone who rolls their ears
just amalgamate all of those into the same district council.
Speaker 4 (54:35):
That's a racist and rural rural around up. Oh they
all sound the same to you, don't they? And Sports
News brought to you by do we have a sponsor? Yeah? Okay,
Two Heartland Championship teams will get a crack at the
(54:57):
coveted logowood this season. One has already been That was
Otago North Otago to Otago who are the holders? It
was in June and they won Otago.
Speaker 3 (55:08):
Otago won that one year. This is so South Canterbury.
Annoyingly they went for a four year street your team
of being undefeated, but because of various different funding restraints
and COVID they missed out on at least one of
the shield challenges, one of them that couldn't afford and
we tried to try.
Speaker 4 (55:27):
And how many teams is Canterbury needs? See? I think
anyone with Canterbury and the title should all just be
merged into one.
Speaker 3 (55:33):
How do they different? Look different?
Speaker 4 (55:37):
Is it different? But this Friday at Mid Canterbury, your
fierce rivalry, the Hammers. They will take on Otago at Alexandra.
Speaker 3 (55:47):
Yes, look they obviously knocked out obviously they knocked out
South Canterbury last year. I think that I'm getting them
behind them because who wouldn't love to see the ramphillis
shield of the Hartland Championship.
Speaker 4 (55:58):
How amazing with that? Let's change every week? Yeah it would,
I think it would and worth respect to Mid Canterbury.
Speaker 3 (56:04):
Well, I don't know how much we speaking mccannberry need,
but yeah, just a bit for it to be in
that competition bouncing around North Osaga, Mid Canbury holt offender carpet.
Speaker 4 (56:13):
It'd be huge for the whole competition. And I think
Otago should do the the honorable thing. Fall on this
swords this game.
Speaker 3 (56:20):
Yep, it's supper good yeap.
Speaker 4 (56:22):
That's Ben Hurley's Rural round Up for another Well, we
do this every time I'm on, so about every three months?
Speaker 3 (56:27):
Can we do it when you're not on? I still
we call Ben Hurley's Rural round Up with Maniah.
Speaker 2 (56:32):
No Jerry and Maniah the Hodarchy Breakfast Jerry and.
Speaker 10 (56:38):
Maniah catch the radio show from six twoteen Weekdays The Darchy.
Speaker 11 (56:42):
Breakfast sports Chat with acc head g Lane, brought you
by Export Ultra the beer for him.
Speaker 3 (56:50):
Welcommend to the studio acc here g Lane. Overtime has
just started in the Spanish Argentinian twenty twenty six feet
a World Cup Finals.
Speaker 11 (56:58):
Yeah nil a, what a rapper, absolutely showcase. The show
piece of world football is nilll Argentina. Hardly any shots
on goal, real, real screamer of a game this month.
Speaker 4 (57:11):
I'm seeing deceats.
Speaker 11 (57:12):
Yeah, I'd probably just getting some beers.
Speaker 4 (57:15):
Oh yeah, it's a lot of beers to get.
Speaker 3 (57:17):
At one point, I don't think Americans know how soccer works,
so they're like hacken was the halftime show though?
Speaker 11 (57:21):
But Wayne Rooney his description shiite. He was he's at
the ground and they went to him and they said
what do you think of the halftime show? And he
said ship.
Speaker 3 (57:31):
I was like, what's going on? That was awesome?
Speaker 4 (57:32):
I mean it was forty minutes long.
Speaker 3 (57:34):
Yeah, it was good though.
Speaker 4 (57:35):
It was good.
Speaker 11 (57:36):
How to entertainment America, They know how to turn it
into a bit of shows. He was wigmore in the
halftime in the Love These things wrong with that thing
wrong with that, and obviously she's a lot going on.
I think the Black Camps are playing at the moment
as well.
Speaker 4 (57:49):
Yeah, it's squeaky bum time. Actually in the game.
Speaker 11 (57:52):
Really in the All Blacks, we had the Warriors. We've
got Ryan Fox winning the Open Championship.
Speaker 4 (57:58):
How good?
Speaker 6 (57:58):
So the black Caps currently one hundred eighty for nine
and they need nine more runs to win the game.
Speaker 3 (58:03):
Yeah, and what like ten overs or something? Who's in
Sentiner and.
Speaker 11 (58:11):
Jade, Lennox and Centinel bring us home? He's the closer?
Speaker 4 (58:15):
How good?
Speaker 11 (58:15):
Ryan Fox?
Speaker 3 (58:16):
Like, oh my god?
Speaker 11 (58:17):
That I mean, he looks like all of us. He
addresses the ball like all of us. Obviously hits it
a lot better. But the way he plays the game
so fast, he plays like he's in trouble at home.
And that is like, that is like all of us.
I've got to get through this. If I'm not home
by three point thirty, im dead.
Speaker 4 (58:33):
Because you've also got a factor in two beers at
the nineteenth before you get home, I know, and.
Speaker 3 (58:37):
Your phone's vibrating in your pocket. You dare not look
at it. And that's why I love him.
Speaker 11 (58:41):
So I think that's why everyone likes him, and even
his post an interview afterwards, the lady's like, you know,
everyone loves how you play.
Speaker 3 (58:47):
You play so quickly, and it's like, yeah, I've got.
Speaker 11 (58:49):
To get home, Yeah, in so much trouble.
Speaker 3 (58:51):
The message, got a newborn baby at home. I'm got
to go first, calling made the message. I'm done. I'm done.
I'll be hop.
Speaker 11 (58:58):
I've just got to do some media and they'll be there.
Speaker 3 (59:00):
Shut up. Five point five million dollars. If that buys
me another beer at the pub or not, I don't know.
Speaker 11 (59:05):
So good he makes. It makes me so happy seeing
him succeed Ryan Fox, because he's a good bugger, and like,
like I said, all of us can see a bit
of ourselves in him.
Speaker 3 (59:16):
Even the way that his rounds go. Like, yes, he won,
and he had like the most amazing comeback I think
in major history to come back from like fifty second place.
He was still in the rough, he was still in
the bunkers. He was still having a fight out from
like disastrous positions, which is the professional equivalent of how
I play golf.
Speaker 11 (59:35):
Yeah, and he had to shambo bitching and moaning the
whole thing. It almost took the headlines away from Fining Fox.
I get out of here to Shamba, go back to YouTube.
Speaker 4 (59:43):
Ryan Fox looks like a guy who would play better
after a beer.
Speaker 3 (59:46):
Yeah. By the way, I don't think they would stop you. No,
I don't think so.
Speaker 11 (59:53):
No, I don't think you get breath tested. I mean,
look at John Daly.
Speaker 3 (59:57):
I mean that's a good point. Yeah, it's but I
don't think you're allowed to smoke on the course anymore. Unfortunately,
Really out the big cigar that the old mate used
to do. He's on the Spanish guy him and is
with the sex offended ponytail. Yeah. I don't think you're
allowed to. I don't think you're allowed to.
Speaker 4 (01:00:16):
There used to be a sign on the Harvard Public
Course that said please remove your cigarette butts from the centrip.
Speaker 11 (01:00:25):
There's a great one out at Macra that says please
do not wheel your chili bans on the green.
Speaker 3 (01:00:33):
There's one at Royal Chamberlain asking if you're looking for
work the only golf course. Yeah, what else in the world?
Speaker 11 (01:00:46):
So much all blacks on the weekend, I mean Ireland.
Not a great game from them, but all Blacks took
advantage of that.
Speaker 3 (01:00:53):
I thought they were Missy Island. Oh yeah, hell yeah.
There was it's not.
Speaker 11 (01:00:56):
Look, it's not the Irish team of the last World Cup,
you know, squeaky. But in the semi final time they
probably conceded some of the softest tries I've ever seen,
particularly the Julians. I'm not Jillian artists are there on
the back of the scrum.
Speaker 3 (01:01:08):
Would be interesting if it was Julian. Even the will
Jordan and Stone cold dropped it.
Speaker 11 (01:01:13):
Yeah, so look, but hey the All Blacks they stood up.
They absolutely thumped them at Eden Park.
Speaker 3 (01:01:18):
How far off our World Cup final team do you
think was that team on the weekend? Like, do you
think how many more changes would you see in that?
Speaker 11 (01:01:25):
I think there's a dog roll probably. I think there's
a few changes in the full pack there. I think
they're still experimenting a little bit there, but I think
always blowing the Quintu Pire had probably the best game
he's ever he's had for quite some time, and him
and Jordi Barrett they're dangerous defense of combo.
Speaker 3 (01:01:41):
Those two.
Speaker 11 (01:01:42):
They tackled their asses off on Saturday night. Yeah, so
I think through the wingers it might change out as well.
And fullback, whether that is cemented or not. With Damian
McKenzie back there Josh Morby on one wing, Will Jordan
on the other. Was will Jordan better at fullback?
Speaker 4 (01:01:57):
I don't know. So we've got four tests versus South
African now oh.
Speaker 11 (01:02:00):
Yeah, yeah, full full South African tour. We're playing like
the old Super rugby teams are playing the bulls the Sharks.
Speaker 4 (01:02:06):
So this is what I think they should come back
in all sport. Yeah, cracket like we should go back tours.
I know India is coming here later in the year
with a very full tour, but they're still not playing
like Central Central District. Yeah, honestly those games would be awesome.
Speaker 11 (01:02:22):
Now a park, you'll sell it absolutely. Yes, it's an
old school full tour of South Africa. We're covering all
those games here on Radiohodachi and I Heart Radio.
Speaker 3 (01:02:31):
What time are they kicking on?
Speaker 11 (01:02:32):
So yeah, So if you're on the Glass Barbie and
up at three in the morning and tuned into the
Glass Barbie commentary.
Speaker 4 (01:02:37):
It's ideal for you. New Zealand now need eight runs
with fifty six balls on one working in hand.
Speaker 3 (01:02:42):
And in the World Cup we're are going upstairs. There's
been a challenge on the goalkeeper and they're going.
Speaker 4 (01:02:47):
To check with a oh, this could be a penalty.
Speaker 3 (01:02:50):
Whether I believe if bun.
Speaker 4 (01:02:56):
Shot by invisible sniper there, oh.
Speaker 3 (01:02:59):
My god, and then nothing happens to the key.
Speaker 11 (01:03:01):
But this is just anyway baskting the glory. If this
week of Ryan Fox, everyone just think what he is
up to right now, and he is having the time
of his life. Hopefully he is sculling beer is out
of that funnel.
Speaker 4 (01:03:13):
I reckon, he's got a funnel.
Speaker 11 (01:03:14):
Yeah, the cleric jug. You've got to scull out of
that cleric jug. But maybe put a hole at the
top of the cleric jug so it goes down fast.
Speaker 3 (01:03:19):
The straw in their behalfs bit a Fox manner. Congratulations
to Ryan Fox, and thanks very much for joining us
this morning, g Lane, No worry
Speaker 1 (01:03:26):
The Holarchy Breakfast filled big rewards with new Power past
pro awards by Bunnings
