Speaker 1 (00:00):
Daily bespoke content that you won't find on the radio
show The hdar Keep Breakfast Podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Welcome to the first part of the Cherry, the first
podcast to see the Sun. The first is Seeing a
New Day, the Day of Our Lord, the fifteenth of
fune Evan Charlton.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
Quickly updating the situation, are we the first podcast of
the day? Zoey did a little bit digging the other day,
a shallow dive, and it looks like quarter past six
is the first podcast that Ryan Bridges News Talk zb
show is getting up. Okay, so as long as we're
up by quarter past six week can claim the title.

Speaker 4 (00:33):
We can do it. Well. The thing is, I'm picking
knowing how talkback radio works.

Speaker 5 (00:37):
That podcast will have been recorded from six to six fifteen.
I reckon, like I reckon, that'll be the first fifteen
minutes of this show, first interview podcast. Yes, you know
what I mean, So we can definitely claim to be
the first to have recorded.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Yeah, I think, well it doesn't he do the five
to six, does he? Yeah? He does the five to
six show. I suspect it's the first part of his
five to six show.

Speaker 4 (01:00):
Of course, because it's husking, isn't it. Yeah, no, no,
you're right, you're right, you're right.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
We just got to beat quarter past six. We can
beat quarter past It's up to Zoie.

Speaker 4 (01:08):
Can Zoe beat quarter past six. We can give her
all the ingredients. Zoie can do it. What time the
cakes baked is entirely out of her hands, and she
do it if she can.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
I'm sure I don't need to do she can. How's
the weekend of him Mania?

Speaker 4 (01:25):
Good? Really? Was it?

Speaker 3 (01:29):
Like?

Speaker 5 (01:29):
That?

Speaker 4 (01:29):
Was it?

Speaker 3 (01:30):
I'm going to pass the boat of mini okay, quick pass,
it's just.

Speaker 4 (01:33):
The off and then passed today? Yeah? Uh yeah. Well,
last thing you remember is Rudy was playing a gig,
but there was leaving do for Mass's gone is gone? Yeah,
he has his contract torn up. Do you know where
he's going? By the way, I have heard rumors about
where he might be going. It's confirmed. It's confirmed.

Speaker 5 (01:55):
He is one of the six producers working on the
stave Aben.

Speaker 4 (01:59):
The cock show is B one O six yeah.

Speaker 6 (02:03):
Five five one five six producers two yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:10):
So he's said over this they had a bit of
a leaving dough and then I saw at the same
time as Germany's obviously just scored a goal.

Speaker 4 (02:16):
At the best. I don't think the podcast getting up
before six fifteen.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (02:22):
And I saw at the same time on Rude Story
of the night before that he's playing a eight at
the same bar where we're having leaving dough for thin
and has.

Speaker 4 (02:32):
Long suffering part What the chance? What are the chants?

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Aleast two thousand and one?

Speaker 4 (02:38):
What the chance? Talk starts what the chance? What the chanel?

Speaker 5 (02:41):
Harris to and I said, I'm going to the Empire too,
and set of times your gig start, and rudes eight o'clock.
I said, well, if I'm still there at eight o'clock,
something's gone wrong. As soon as I walk in and
goes something's gone wrong.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
I was like, we're pushing eight a. Something has gone
terribly wrong.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Something has gone wrong, either something's gone wrong or something
on something's gone incredibly right.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
I mean, something's gone right. It depends how you look
at it.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
I think later on things are going to go wrong
in the story, but I think that at this stage
things have gone right there. I mean, for example, if
you had, you know, had some kind of altercation with someone,
some kind of running, you probably would have thought, you
know what, I'm.

Speaker 4 (03:24):
Cutting my losses.

Speaker 7 (03:25):
I'm out of here if you shut up and I'm
bloodied and bruised yep, or if you've got a call
from your lovely slash long suffering partner Jeff, and she said,
you know what, I need you to come home.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
I've got something. There's a problem here. There's been a flood.
Come home, and then you'd hit it on home.

Speaker 5 (03:40):
Yeah, well, so so the rugby had start also. That
is what I couldn't figure out on Friday night. Why
did those schedule you to start almost exactly halfway through
the rugby?

Speaker 4 (03:50):
I guess the picture. And no one's going to come
watch the game.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Yeah, they're having a few scheduling issues. I've decided to
try and wait and then say hey, maybe you could
do this and do that and put that over there,
and do this at different times and that none. No,
we're just going with what's been suggested by some people
higher up than us who never actually come here, who
don't go to bars. Yeah, they don't come here, but
this is their idea to make it work.

Speaker 5 (04:11):
That is a problem in the in the bar industry,
there are higher ups that no longer piss up and
don't in pubs.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Every industry, every industry, and so then it's like, you know,
they remember what it used to it, but it's like
the first game that anyone's really cared about in Super
Rugby for quite a while is on that night, and
then they.

Speaker 5 (04:28):
Bloody put Rutter on the same. The thing is they
were right because no one was really watching the game.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
At one point, when it was forty two to five, yeh,
Mash looked up at it and was like, what the
fuck hap because he just missed it. He completely missed
the fact that the rugby was on over there. It
was sensory overload, and he said, I am not going
over to the ACC studio in the fucking way.

Speaker 5 (04:50):
So that's exactly what happened to me too, because the
plan was I was going to go and watch like
after the first half. The plan was we were going
to flood the studio with Crusaders fans because it was
Lane and Maconi that were commentating.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Give him a taste of man, well you look up at.

Speaker 5 (05:05):
The scoreboard a half times forty two five, whatever it was,
I'm pretty sure it was about that. Yeah, it was insane, crazy,
It's fucking insane. So they're just like, well, I'm not
going into the bloody thing. So then we're there, and
then Lane, of course he comes back to the pub afterwards.
Of course he wasn't going to but you know, of
course when like that, Ye, it comes back in anyway,

(05:26):
And between times, Rude of fires up and plays a
couple of songs. Then I look over and there's Bonnie
Jensen One News on the mic, the with the stunning
rendition of Valerie.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
There was a few stunning renditions. So Bonnie Jensen One
News got pipes on her.

Speaker 4 (05:46):
Yeah, Bonnie Jensen can sing.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
Bonnie Jensen can sing mate and loud.

Speaker 6 (05:52):
And loud not always good. And then the mic and
then in waits the Duchess. The Duchess was an invasion.
I think the Duchess and Wade the Dutchess. I didn't
know the Duchess had pipes, No, she doesn't. I don't
know if the Duchess does have pipes.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
Okay, And then post Duchess straight away was the suffering
partner of long suffering partner of Mash just goes midnight, Angels,
Come on, Angels. We're doing angels now. And that was
about our fifth song.

Speaker 4 (06:19):
And yeah, so that was probably.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Twenty past eight.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
That would have been no no need for a kirol. No,
I was about four deep by.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
That points both but all three, all three okay, sot
eyes up, he's doing angel obliged.

Speaker 4 (06:40):
Yeah, that happened that. I probably got off the stage,
but that inflamed the dance floor and then we're away.
Oh is that right? Yeah, we're off and rocking from there.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
An amazing d floor.

Speaker 4 (06:48):
Was an amazing, tightly packed.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
One of the highlights of the dance floor. I thought,
actually it was not the dancing. It was Keysy watching
himself in Game of Two Halbs.

Speaker 4 (06:58):
Okay, okay, I was like, okay.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
He just watching himself on TV on the dance floor.
He was on the dance floor watching himself.

Speaker 4 (07:07):
Okay, on game. This needs more explanation. This needs to
be unpacked.

Speaker 6 (07:13):
I see it on the microphone. He knew exactly what
was happening. So he's on the dance floor Game of
two Houses on TV.

Speaker 3 (07:19):
Yeh probably live fifteen minutes. You know that garden bar
at the Inmpire, right, because we've done Dan Loan from
there and there's one end which is where the little stages,
and then there's the other end with the kitcheners. Yeah,
Kezy watching himself, right, across the dance floor on Game
of two Halves.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
Wow, okay, so I was on a bigger screen though
he wasn't watching a little screen of himself.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
He okay, but it was on okay and he was
watching him Well, no, sound probably hard.

Speaker 4 (07:48):
Not to in that situation. I thought you thought that
he'd dialed it up.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
And you know, because excuse me, can we chuck a
just on his own phone and he's dancing away looking
at himself on his own phone?

Speaker 4 (07:59):
Now, that would be though, that would be shocking. Yeah, no,
it wasn't that it is.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
It is hard, quite funny, It is fucking funny.

Speaker 5 (08:07):
And his defense, it is hard not to look at
your own face if it's on a screen somewhere totally
like if you're ever like in the A SEC studio
sometimes you can see the live stream bit in the
corner of the room. It's really hard not to look
at it, like Joe is to cover it up, because
people just instinctively see your own face.

Speaker 4 (08:22):
You look at it. But the optics of a man
saying I got a dance floor looking at his own
face is quite funny. Oh yeah, it's quite funny. Yeah,
and dancing at the same time.

Speaker 5 (08:30):
Or no.

Speaker 4 (08:32):
Tracks.

Speaker 3 (08:33):
I think we put out the Keyzy chant at one
point as well. I'm not sure why, but we were
putting out keysy Kezy.

Speaker 5 (08:39):
I'm sure why this is. It's like the American government
dropping bricks off at a right. He instigated it.

Speaker 4 (08:47):
Probably I regony he does it. I regony, he instigates it.
You guys. So what was the biggest dance floor hit
of the night? What was the peak?

Speaker 3 (08:58):
Probably anything that I wasn't singing. Basically, Manya's Angels was
a real highlight. Bonnie Jensen one uses Valerie that pre
mentioned was fantastic. Look, I don't mean to throw us versions,
but the Duchess asked us for some Taylor Swift and

(09:20):
we were like, and at that point we were like,
I don't really care. And then we were like, I
could pull out, shake it off. And you know sometimes
when people go I'm going to carry a shit out
of this and they get ten seconds do it and go, oh,
what have I done? What have I done? Well? It
was too high for her?

Speaker 4 (09:39):
Yeah it was.

Speaker 3 (09:40):
It was too high.

Speaker 4 (09:41):
And then I think there isn't much. I think most
things are too high for the Duchess.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
I can't remember what the other song that she did
was that was actually she did too. I think she
did maybe four or five, did she actually, Yeah, there
was a few early and then there was a couple
later on. She was very assistant and oh and at
one point when Macony and Lane walked in, I busted

(10:06):
out a bit of Lovers in the Air but with
manas in the Air, and I didn't really know.

Speaker 4 (10:11):
How it went.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
And she walked up to me and she's like, waves
me over and she goes, you're out of tune.

Speaker 4 (10:16):
And I was like, Jesus, whoa coming from us?

Speaker 3 (10:21):
I was just laughing. And then she keept saying play
Silver Springs by Fleetwood mac and I was like, nah, go.

Speaker 4 (10:28):
On play it now.

Speaker 3 (10:32):
It was good. She was a great time.

Speaker 4 (10:36):
It's like things like that much of a good time.
It was fun. Guys actually came here with a plan
of some songs they want to play, and they're way
better at than you.

Speaker 5 (10:45):
Not as much as this is a paid gig, this
is also, you know, like a hobby for these you know,
that's something that they enjoyed doing.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
It was a lot of fun and it was funny.
It was funny when the bar staff came up and
they go. Can can we wrap up the carry acquisition? Now? Yes,
there is that.

Speaker 4 (11:00):
Is enough that was furnishing.

Speaker 3 (11:01):
These are the only people were having a good time.

Speaker 4 (11:03):
Let's do it.

Speaker 5 (11:04):
That's a good point because we were the majority of it.
We would have been ninety percent of the bar for
most of the night.

Speaker 4 (11:09):
In fact, that whole night.

Speaker 5 (11:09):
It was one of those funny cross sections of Auckland
society that night because when I got there, there was
it was just people from work already been there for
about an hour or something.

Speaker 4 (11:19):
In the corner there was a couple in their mid forties. Yeah, pashing,
oh passion like crazy. Were they part of the entertainment
where they paid to do that? They got to clap
out on the way out? Oh good on them.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (11:34):
I think they may have left before you started, but
they were. It was it was pretty full on makeouts here. Wow.
Yeah it maybe because you know whatever, you see that
kind of thing. You're stuck? What was what are they
out to? You know?

Speaker 5 (11:46):
I reckon there were there were allegations of infidelity, like
perhaps this was a you know what I mean? Because
that the Empires quite a tucked away little bar, particularly
that outside area, it'd be pretty hard to find someone
in there. And then there was another girl sitting there
by herself for like over an hour. It looked like
she'd been stood up for a date. And then there
were a couple of other corporate sort of situations that

(12:08):
would roll in. There were a bunch of people in suits.

Speaker 4 (12:10):
Were they still there when you playing?

Speaker 3 (12:12):
They left by the end, maybe at the start normal
started playing. Maybe they got turned off by the karaoke night.

Speaker 5 (12:20):
Yeah, if you weren't part of our group, I think
that would have been a real room.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
No, there was a couple of couples. There was one
where the passion was happening, and then later on a
couple probably in their mid fifties. They were having a
her of a time. I fucking loved it. And then
there was another three ladies that came in later that
were just having a great time as well, just watching
you guys, Yeah, watching you guys, watching us.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
Well, the thing is, if you've got a whole lot
of people there in your dancing and you're singing and
having your time, then it's better than just a whole
lot of people just pershing heaving an a fair you know,
in the corner.

Speaker 5 (12:52):
Oh definitely, And that's the thing about when the bar
stuff get annoyed at that kind of stuff. So you,
I mean, I don't know that we were just there
for leaving doing that. You know, you could easily have
been like, hey, when have you seen the dance floor
rocket in here before?

Speaker 3 (13:05):
Probably never, So, as I said, I've made suggestions that
have been filed in the back pocket and put away.
But I guess probably my other highlight of the night
extual you and I was again when you said something's
going drastically wrong if I'm still here at eight o'clock,
when at nine point thirty you're walking onto the dance
floor with two massive jokes in front of you right

(13:27):
where a busy would be. And god, we had a
good laugh of that. Do you remember that my beer buses? Yeah,
I got a shout at it. Then I's got a
couple of massive jokes. There we go, and who you
were walking behind as well. At the time, I was
just problematic. I was just I was just I decided,
I was like, bugger, we're going for it.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
Jerry and Manaia joined the complaint the Hodaki Breakfast discussion
group on Facebook for more. Jeremy Wells and Manaia Stewett
find them on Instagram at Hodaki Breakfast.

Speaker 4 (13:57):
So what time did it end up finishing up?

Speaker 3 (14:00):
We finished at eleven?

Speaker 5 (14:02):
Oh great, Okay, jeez, that that fells on so much
more of my night then, because I was like, what
happened between the rugby and the end of the because
the next bar we went to, we w into.

Speaker 4 (14:11):
It like eleven eleven thirty.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
Okay, Yeah, we finished bang on eleven and you guys
pretty much walked out straight away. Yeah, that's right, We've
got some hugs. Went to another bar, Isaac great hugger.

Speaker 4 (14:22):
Isac is a hugger of note, I can imagine that.

Speaker 5 (14:25):
Yeah, and then we went to another bar around the corner.
I don't know, I feel like it's weird and sometimes
you got to we're again the only people in this
bar too.

Speaker 4 (14:35):
No one's out at the moment.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
Nah.

Speaker 4 (14:37):
This is also this time of year.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
Yeah, Beginning it went to that's why I drive your
lies such a punish for hospital people, because it's already
the worst month of the year for hospo. And then
drive yourly into that and it's just another ten down
And that's where a better.

Speaker 4 (14:53):
And pige you I am from.

Speaker 5 (14:55):
So we went from there to another bar around the corner.
All so there's the two There were two bars like adjacent,
so you could walk in one door and you'd be
in one bar, walking the other and you've been the
other bar, but you could walk between the two of them.
We walked into the wrong one, sat down waiting for
some other people to show up, and we just ended
up at.

Speaker 4 (15:14):
Like some jazz bar. Oh, there was like a whole year.

Speaker 5 (15:19):
Yeah, and there were people just sitting around like genuinely
appreciating the music. And then by that point I had
custody of the Duchess and so yeah, and so the
Duchess and I bowland. The Duchess and I bowland a
jazz recital and were oh shit. And I at least

(15:39):
at this stage, had the presence of mind to be like, right,
we're going to second ourselves to the back.

Speaker 4 (15:44):
Here.

Speaker 5 (15:44):
There was like a little sort of seating area down
the back that was vaguely separate from everywhere else, and.

Speaker 4 (15:51):
I was like, we're just going to go sit down here,
because what we don't.

Speaker 2 (15:54):
Need as the Duchess back up on stage jazz singing.
We don't need the Duchess. What we want is the
duchess to go home right now.

Speaker 4 (16:05):
And so we went and sat back down there.

Speaker 5 (16:08):
Then I got a text from messhas long suffering partner Laurence,
and I know we're in the We're just in the
bar right next door to you. We had literally just
walked in the wrong door. We just saw the sign
for the place we were going to, and I sweat.
This looks like it's the same place where just walking
wasn't different place.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
How long do you hang around there for?

Speaker 5 (16:25):
Well, I thought i'd been at the I don't know,
I've got I've lost track time. That would have like
five minutes. I didn't finish my beer right by the
time we figured out that they were next door, sitting
outside on a veranda.

Speaker 4 (16:35):
And then that was it. That was that. That was
all she wrote.

Speaker 5 (16:37):
But that was enough for our big money to be
sniffy all weekend.

Speaker 4 (16:41):
Oh yeah, that's the thing. We were talking about this
just before we came in here. Fridays are out for me.

Speaker 5 (16:46):
I think Fridays are out because I forget that I've
been up since stupid o'clock put in the first, the
first ever podcast in the world out and then I
roll in and get caught up with all the nine
to fivers who were Hoopla or the Hoopla who were
all you know, rare and ag. Yeah, and then I
wake up on Saturday, for God's sake. Yeah, it was
a point of all of that in the middle of
the winter to depths of winter.

Speaker 4 (17:07):
Yeah. Yeah, that's a that's a recipe for ending up stiff. There,
it really is.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
Murray come along.

Speaker 4 (17:13):
Uh. He must have been at the Empire for a
little bit. There, he's permanently at the Empire. He's got
a residence.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
A lot of a lot of young ladies playing the
tambourine as well.

Speaker 4 (17:28):
Tambourine got a real hiding. Oh good, that's okay.

Speaker 3 (17:31):
It actually worries me because a lot of the time
it's used on soft tissue, for instance, buttocks, quads, yeah,
and thighs, and I look at it.

Speaker 4 (17:40):
Oh he I was both a few people's heads.

Speaker 3 (17:42):
You're fair enough.

Speaker 4 (17:43):
And that instrument's meant to be played on the hand.

Speaker 3 (17:47):
It's meant to be played on a hard service because
especially if you're not conditioned to it, and you slap
it on your ass, then the next day you try
and sit down. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (17:56):
I've never heard of a tambourine incident. I've been tambourine bruising.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
Yep. Yeah, it's a real thing. I reckon a sec
like not the acc but Excellent Compensation Corporation. Yeah, I
reckon there'd be.

Speaker 4 (18:07):
A thing for it, overene related bruising. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (18:10):
The tambourine. The tambourine for any part band out there
is a hell of a move. I've seen it at
a couple of weddings. Are just really mad.

Speaker 4 (18:17):
It goes hard, gets people, gets people involved. It does
get you involved in and if you're not a great dancer,
here's something to do.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
That's something I would limit. The duchess tambourining. I'd say, duchess,
she was on the ts like is the mic. No,
there's a tambourine for you, and it doesn't doesn't make
any noise.

Speaker 4 (18:35):
Hold it the toothless tambourine. Yeah, triangle with no little thing. Yeah.
So yeah, that's a chronology of Friday Night. It sounds good.

Speaker 3 (18:45):
It's a lot of fun sounds.

Speaker 4 (18:47):
It was a good note. Should we get into the
radio show a right, let's get into it.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
Siri and Manaiah the radio show from six till ten weekdays,
