The Hauraki Breakfast, thanks to Bunnings Trade. Build big rewards
with new PowerPass Pro rewards by Bunnings. Alright, let's do this.
Jerry and Manai, the Hauraki Breakfast. Yeah, let's do this.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
It's Friday the 4th of September, 2026. Welcome along to
the Hauraki Breakfast. My name's Jeremy Wells, this is Manai Stewart.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Good morning, Jeremy Wells. Good morning, Zoe, filling in for Ruta,
who's got whatever bugs going around at the moment. I've
got to be honest, everybody is crook at the moment,
it seems like. And, Jerry, I know that you've come
out of it, but I still notice a distinct lack
of pep in your steps this morning. Let's get on
the pre-workout. I've found some pre-workout out in the office.
And I reckon this could be the trick to getting

(00:47):
a bit of energy into the show.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Okay, so you've brought in what looks like a tub
of something.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Is it lube? It's pre-workout. You put it.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
Around your groin to smooth things out?

Speaker 1 (00:57):
You can, but it's a powder.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
Oh, it's a powder.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Yeah, you put it in a glass of water and
drink it.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Oh, okay.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
You don't put it in your shoe.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
It's not like Gran's Remedy.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Well, whatever you want to do with it, you can.
This is the, and again, not an ad. I just
found it. I think it's expired out in the office.
It's the mango burst flavor pre-workout plus electrolytes by female
athletes for athletic women. Supports energy and performance with key
electrolytes lost in sweat.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
Oh, so it's for women.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
It's for women.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
Flip it over this way. Let's have a look at
this thing. Athena for women.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
I've got a bit of water here.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
You know what, Jerry?

Speaker 4 (01:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
Seems to me like you might need it.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Seems to me like you need it.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
Oh, look at the bloody smoky stuff coming out of it.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
Here's a teaspoon for you, brother.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
Okay, I'll just go like a bit of that stuff.
I probably need a little bit of pre-workout.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
You do.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
You need a bit of pep in your stairs.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Let's give it a little stir, see what it's like.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
I do think it expired a couple of months ago.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
Did it?

Speaker 4 (01:48):
I believe so.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
Well, what could be in it that could be.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
Jerry's a text through on 3483. You could snort it.
Have you considered that?

Speaker 3 (01:56):
Well, I just did, basically, because I opened up the
thing and it went up my nose because it went
poof and powdered up the nose. And I don't think
you'd want to be... It's like Ajax.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Let's give it a taste. I can't imagine it's going
to taste good. No, it's good. It's good? Yeah, it's
like raro. Okay, 6.02. Whenever Jerry starts getting into the powders,
I always like to jot the time down and just
see what impact that has on him over the next
few minutes.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
6.02.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
All right, should we get into the kickoff? Yeah. Slide
some of that my way, big fella. Here we go.
Here we go.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Give us a call if you want to choose the
kickoff song. What song are we going to kick the
show off with today?

Speaker 1 (02:37):
What are you going for?

Speaker 3 (02:38):
I'm going with The Cult. I heard this little banger
the other day. Jaunty little number. Good way to start
the day.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
Chopping some wood.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
Back.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
With the cha-ching-ching on the guitars. Good driving song, I
would say. Great driving song. Great driving song. I am
going to go back to the well. I was a
little bit disappointed yesterday. Are we okay with this? Oh,
I see what you've done here. What another crack. I
couldn't get it out of my head this morning. I
came in this morning, me and Zoe had to listen
to a few different songs, and I was like, you
know what? I'm stuck on this. I'm stuck on the song.

(03:11):
I need to scratch that out. Anyway, my way, Limp Bizkit. Okay,
let's go to Jory from Christchurch Online 1. Morning, Jory.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
How are you?

Speaker 5 (03:19):
Not too bad.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
Yourself, fellas?

Speaker 1 (03:21):
You're getting there. About to be much better. Jerry's just
hit the pre-workout.

Speaker 4 (03:24):
Whoa.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
I'm already feeling it, actually, Jory. Now, Jory, what are
you doing for the weekend?

Speaker 5 (03:30):
I don't have any plans. I was just cruising.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
That's a good way to be. Have you intentionally done that?

Speaker 4 (03:34):
No.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
No. That's a bad way to be, Jury.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
Jury, would you like to hear She Sells Sanctuary by
The Cult to kick things off or Limp Bizkit's My Way?

Speaker 5 (03:47):
I'm pretty conflicted, but I am a sucker for Limp Bizkit,
so I'm going to go with Limp Bizkit.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
Okay, it's coming in second day. Good on you, Jury.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
Have a lovely weekend, whatever that entails. Cheers, you too, guys.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
Thanks.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
There it is, Limp Bizkit, for the kick-off, even with
a little bit of DJing, a little bit of scratching
in there as well.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
That was the time, wasn't it? New Metal Fridays, yeah. Really,
what if we had a rock band, right? But we
also had a DJ. And then Linkin Park were like, oh,
but then what about a singer who screamed? And then
also a rapper. And everyone's like, sick, dude.

Speaker 4 (04:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
Turn their hat backwards, grow a little goatee.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
It was a dollar each way because I remember it.
I know exactly what happened. You know, because dance music
came along in the 1990s and it took over, really.
You had grunge and then you had dance music. And
then new metal came out the back of all of
that in the late 90s, early 2000s. So it's exactly
your thinking. That is exactly what it was. It was like,
let's combine these two things.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
Let's get the best of both of us. But then
people went, well, actually, scratching is annoying.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
It's a bit of a distraction, if I'm honest.

Speaker 5 (04:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
How much blame do you lay at the feet of
Run DMC and Aerosmith? Well, some.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
I mean, yeah, because you had your hip-hop combining with
your rock and your metal. But that was kind of
a one-off.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
It was, but I think it put an idea in
a bunch of Californian kids' heads.

Speaker 4 (05:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
They were like, hang on, we could do this.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
Yeah, but I actually don't know. I think there was
such a long time before that I'm not sure whether that,
I mean, yeah, okay.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
Yeah, that's a good point. That was like the 80s.
How do you consider Rage Against the Machine to be
a new metal?

Speaker 3 (05:25):
Well, now, that is bloody interesting, because I think a
lot of people, when they first heard Rage Against the Machine,
like me, did not think of it as hip-hop.

Speaker 5 (05:33):
No?

Speaker 3 (05:33):
But it was considered grunge. But, actually, it's hip-hop.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
They are a DJ scratching away from being new metal.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
Well, Tom Morello's doing it on his guitar. He's doing
the scratching, but he's doing it on a guitar. That's
a great point.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
I mean, great band.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
System of a down, do you consider them to be.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Well, they were in that new metal kind of zone.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
The new metal adjacent. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
Whereas Raging Against the Machine were before, earlier.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
Yeah, right. You know. Okay.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
So there we go.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
That was interesting. Spirited debate at 6.10. How's the pre-workout
treating you? Good, actually.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Yeah, thanks very much for that. I'm just sort of
working on.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
Eight minutes since you buffed it.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
Yeah, I reckon this would be really good if you
had a night out on the turps, and then just
before you went to bed, you knocked some pre-workout electrolytes...
I reckon you'd wake up with no hangover.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Yeah, about 15 minutes later. Oh, you reckon?

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Too much sugar.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
It's got caffeine.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
It's got caffeine and all sorts. Does it?

Speaker 3 (06:27):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
It's to wake you up before you work out. That's
what it's for.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
I normally am awake when I work out. You know,
I'm very seldom asleep when I'm working out.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
Well, I sleepwalk through a lot of mine. Did you
see your mate Luxon yesterday? Why is he my mate?
I don't know, he was in a Hawaiian shirt and
someone asked him about who was going to win the NRL,
I believe. Have a listen to this. Hard time about
that last night.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
It's going to be the Waratahs, I think.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
It's going to be the Warriors versus, no, Dolphins. No, sorry, Warriors.
That reeked of, that sounded like to me, so if
you missed it, he said Waratahs are going to win
the NRL. Sorry, Warriors. It reeked of like, you know
when you're around your mates and you just stumble over
a word? And then you're like, no, God, no, no, no, no, no, no.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
I'm not an idiot.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
I know what I meant to say.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
Oh, it's funny that you say that. Because that is,
I think, what's happened there. And then people have seized
on it. I mean, last night it was on the news.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
And I've been told that the Prime Minister's not a
big fan of one news. And I'm like, that's why.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
Because he misspeaks. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
It's a misspeak. Bad one, though, because you know.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
You don't know anything about sport.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
If you're with your mates, you know straight off the
rip they're going to be like, oh. And his mates, well,
I don't know what his mates are like. If I
said that, my mates would be like, how are the
Waratahs going in the NRL, mate? And then the playoffs
will start. Hey, I noticed the Waratahs aren't in the
NRL playoffs. What happened there?

Speaker 3 (07:54):
So do you think he hangs out with his mates
heaps at the pub and they give each other a
bit of, you know, back and forth?

Speaker 1 (08:00):
Do you think that's what happens when it's fun, Mr.
Chris Luxon? His fantasy league group chat will be popping
off this morning. Hey, Waratahs go, mate.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
There's no way. There is no way. So is this
too boring for 6.20, the segment which we've been running
for some time now? You got an electric toothbrush a
while ago. You wondered whether that was too boring to
talk about that at 6.20.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
Update on the toothbrush that's too boring for 6.20. I
haven't charged it since I've bought it. It has been charged.
What would that be, two weeks? Almost three, probably?

Speaker 3 (08:38):
What a trooper. Just about three weeks. What a trooper
of a battery.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
It's just been... And my missus has had to charge
hers twice. I suspect this is why they were on sale,
because one of the two is buggered. Oh, you reckon?
I reckon, yeah. And then the other one's just got
this mega super ultra battery. You don't... She's not using
it more than you? She could potentially be using it
more than me, but that would only be if she
was sneaking home at lunchtime to brush her teeth. Maybe. Because...

(09:04):
Is this too boring for 617? Again, it buzzes when
it tells you to switch. It's so good. It's like
brain off sort of territory. And my teeth have never
been cleaner.

Speaker 3 (09:14):
You're just going, you're not moving it like a toothbrush
back and forth, are you?

Speaker 1 (09:19):
One to two seconds on each tooth, Jerry. There we go.
And then move along and then move back. You're just
doing each quadrant and then it'll go, and then that's
time to move over to the next one.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
Yes, because as you know, teeth are a 3D surface.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
They are. Yeah, that's right. So yeah, God bless it.
It's going well. It's going good.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
How about a static blanket update?

Speaker 1 (09:40):
Yes, so the blanket has been significantly less staticky, and
I think it's got something to do with the shoes.
And the Grand's Remedy? Talked about this yesterday. I think
the Grand's Remedy's gone a long way to helping that, yeah.
Someone wanted us to do a deep dive on the
materials of my insoles and also my socks. um i
don't know socks just cotton or polyester or whatever the

(10:01):
hell nike socks are made out.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
Of cotton probably cotton yeah yeah uh the fluff collector
in your in your.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
Dryer lint filter uh yeah no that that remains clean
and my god is that thing running like a dream
at the moment as well Has anyone.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
Ever thought of utilizing that lint, that fluff collector, and
maybe knitting a jumper out of it or, you know,
creating some socks out of it? Because there's so much
lint that gets collected around the world, and I feel
like it's an opportunity for someone out there to scrounge
it and make some money and seem like they're doing

(10:36):
something good for the environment.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
Insulation, I reckon. And everyone's trying to do that nowadays.
Insulation would be good for.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
Insulation?

Speaker 1 (10:42):
Yeah. Like bats.

Speaker 5 (10:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
Lint bats. You'd need a fair bit of it. You'd
need a fair bit of it. I think we're onto
something here. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
Yeah, but I mean, you think about every dryer everywhere
in the world. I mean, there's a lot of lint
that's been collected.

Speaker 1 (10:56):
Particularly in wet cities like Auckland. Anyway, this morning, but
it still shrinks my clothes. I have, I've put on
my Bunnings shirt this morning. I'm clocking in for a
shift after this. And whenever this happens, I go, my
dryer's shrinking my clothes and people go, you're just putting
on weight.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
Yes, but.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
But my arms aren't getting longer. So that's how I
know that the clothes are shrinking. Okay. Now, will I
stop putting it in the dryer?

Speaker 4 (11:22):
No.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
No, you've got a real thing about this bloody dryer.
And it's a mental block. Like, you can't put some
things in the dryer. You do know that, don't you?

Speaker 4 (11:31):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
But it rains. Where I live, it rains every day.
So I'm not hanging stuff out on the line. The
last time I put a jacket out on the line,
it was out there for two weeks. Because every time
I left the house, it would rain on it. And
now I've got to leave it again. So then it
just got stuck out there. Okay.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
But what about one of those indoor clothes sources?

Speaker 1 (11:48):
Now your house is damp. That's my issue with the
indoor clothes source, also known just as a clothes source.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
I open a door every now and then.

Speaker 4 (11:56):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
I'm just going to go through some items and you
tell me if you put them in the dryer, right? Socks.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (12:01):
Yeah. Oh, yeah. Okay.

Speaker 3 (12:02):
Jocks.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
Well, yes. And this is where the issue came in
when the lint filter was busted because they were shrinking
and it was causing me discomfort. Okay.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
Yeah. You definitely know that that's not growing down there.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
Jocks are going in.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
Okay, Sox Jocks. Frocks. Frocks?

Speaker 1 (12:17):
Frocks. What's a frock?

Speaker 3 (12:18):
Would you put a frock in there? I don't even know.

Speaker 1 (12:20):
What a frock is. A frock. Zoe doesn't know what
a frock is. Zoe, you're a woman and you don't
know what a frock is. Yeah, nah.

Speaker 3 (12:27):
A dress. A frock. You frock up. You put on
a dress.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
You get frocked. No, I've never put a frock in
the dryer. T-shirts. Yes. Jeans.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
No.

Speaker 1 (12:41):
Jeans are the one thing I won't put in there.
Will they hold up to a dryer? Yeah.

Speaker 3 (12:46):
Yeah, they will.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
Chuck them in there.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
Delicates.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
What qualifies as a delicate?

Speaker 3 (12:51):
I've got no idea. I've never known what a delicate is.

Speaker 1 (12:53):
No, nor have I. So, yes, then I must be
putting those in the dryer.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
Your woolens.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
Well, remember we got given a pair of woolen underwear? Mm-hmm.
I chucked those straight in the dryer. They are now
my partner's.

Speaker 3 (13:07):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
She loves them.

Speaker 3 (13:09):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
Cashmere.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
Cashmere.

Speaker 1 (13:14):
I don't have any cashmere, but if I did, it's
going straight in the dryer.

Speaker 3 (13:17):
Silk shirts.

Speaker 1 (13:19):
I also don't have any silk, but again, if I did,
it's going straight in the dryer.

Speaker 3 (13:23):
Sneakers.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
Sneakers, yes, I have put sneakers in the dryer. I've
washed my shoes before. Yeah, it's good to wash your shoes.
It works, man.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
It does work.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
Totally works.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
You've got to wash the sneakers. Might actually cure the
static in the blanket, too. Yeah, okay.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
All right, so basically everything. But other than silk shirts
and cashmere, which you don't have.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
Which I don't have, yeah, or frocks. Okay. Which I
don't know what they are.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
All right, I think we've got to the bottom of that.
Get a hold of us any time you like on
0800 Hauraki, 0800 428 725. That is our studio number.
We answer the phone, or you can text us on 3483.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
And I think as we demonstrated in that last break,
there is nothing too boring. So don't be afraid to
call in thinking, oh, geez, is this going to be
good enough for the radio? Nothing we've done this morning
has been. We were talking about my new toothbrush. James said,
have you got a water flosser too, Manaya? No, but
now that I've opened the door into electric oral hygiene,
I think I might have to.

Speaker 3 (14:18):
Hey, years ago we had a guy that came on
the show and he had a company and they did
water flossing. And he gave Matt, Heath and I a
water flosser each. And I tell you what.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
Change your life?

Speaker 3 (14:31):
It's an interesting, it gets all over the bathroom floor.
That's the only issue I would say, but Man, does
that get it right in there.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
Like a mouth bidet. Yeah. Gross. It's quite good. Someone
else said, Beck said, I say I've woken at the
exact right time for a boring start to the day.
Scott said, I reckon the reason Mania doesn't need to
deliberately plug his toothbrush in, because I haven't charged it
in two weeks. I reckon the reason Minaya doesn't need
to deliberately plug his toothbrush in is because it's getting

(14:58):
all the power it needs from his latent static charge.

Speaker 3 (15:02):
I like that. I mean, maybe you just may have
come across the greatest battery of all time.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
And it's me. It's the friends we made along the way.
Willie's on the line. Morning, Willie. How are you getting on?

Speaker 3 (15:13):
Yeah, not too bad.

Speaker 5 (15:14):
Good morning.

Speaker 1 (15:14):
How can we help you this morning, Willie?

Speaker 2 (15:16):
I was wondering if we could get.

Speaker 5 (15:18):
A please explain about the podcast, the intro podcast, etc.

Speaker 1 (15:23):
We're in a tense legal battle around that at the moment, Willie.
We'll get back there. We're going to have to get
back there. The higher-ups have shut us down.

Speaker 3 (15:33):
Yeah, it's probably not an on-air chat, Willie, but yes.
Just stand by there, Willie, and we'll see what happens
next week.

Speaker 1 (15:44):
Put it that way.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (15:46):
No worries, Willie.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
No worries, Willie. Someone else texted me, for the static
in your bed, you could put one of those rubber
straps from the bottom of the bed to the ground
like they used to have on cars in the 80s
or 90s.

Speaker 3 (15:55):
I remember those. So I always wondered, because someone also
told me that those straps, you'd be driving behind a
car and you'd see this dangly piece of material down
that was about three centimetres wide and about 20 centimetres long.
And then someone also told me that it helped car sickness. Oh, really?

Speaker 1 (16:12):
I mean, how could that be? I don't know about that,
but have you ever had one of those, like a
hurrah of a shock off a car door? Oh, yeah.

Speaker 3 (16:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (16:21):
Another one here. Manoia, try giving your toothbrush a charge.
You might be surprised at the difference it'll make. It
might be slowing down without you noticing. Also, put your
dryer lint outside for nesting birds. M from Invis. PS,
go the ABs.

Speaker 3 (16:32):
For nesting birds is a great idea. It's like the
Sky Funeral. So the birds then come and take the lint.
There's something in lint and.
Helping the environment. I'm not quite sure what it is,
but I'm actually looking, because what is in lint?

Speaker 4 (16:45):
Dust.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
Well, yes.

Speaker 3 (16:47):
I reckon it's... Zoe, dust, there is dust.

Speaker 1 (16:49):
I think you're thinking it's like, is it like fluff
off your clothes? I think it's like gross bits of
dead skin and stuff like that.

Speaker 3 (16:56):
Well, you're both correct. Fabric fibres, tiny broken threads and
microscopic pieces of natural materials like cotton, linen wool, synthetic
materials like polyester and nylon. Skin cells... tiny pieces of
dead human skin that rub off onto clothing, environmental dust, Zoe, yes,
household dust, outdoor pollen, plant fibres, and hair and dander. Dander?

Speaker 1 (17:21):
Dander.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
Animal dander.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
Gross. Absolutely disgusting. Sam's on the line. You've got a
marketing idea, Sam.

Speaker 3 (17:27):
Is that right?

Speaker 5 (17:28):
Well, not so much for the link, but I reckon
you could go with a boring set of books to
put people to sleep, so like.
Mania and the dryer. His wonder brush and his crush.
Lint and the old bent, that's if the mother-in-law finds it.

(17:52):
I think the Morning Show could really run with it
and have their own collection of children's stories.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
Yes, I love that, Sam. That is a great idea.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
You're on to that.

Speaker 1 (18:00):
We'll work towards 2027 Christmas, I reckon. If I can
get top five blazing spots into production, that will be
the test case for our range of children's books. Thanks
for your call, Sam.

Speaker 3 (18:10):
Appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
Jerry and Manon. The Hauraki Breakfast.

Speaker 3 (18:18):
6.32 on the Hauraki Breakfast. Time for your latest sport headlines.
Thanks to Export Ultra the BFA here. The Broncos NRL
Premiership defence has ended with a 34-20 victory over the Bulldogs.
They've sent Payne Haas out as a winner in his
final game. He'll be pleased about that. He's going to
be joining South Sydney, although he also spent the first
half in the Simmon.

Speaker 1 (18:39):
Yeah, that is, I believe, now the least successful title
defence in NRL history. I can't wait for the Netflix
doco as to what happened. I don't really know. My
running theory has been If the Warriors won the NRL
this year, would we care how they went next year?

Speaker 3 (18:57):
I wouldn't.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
I probably wouldn't care how they went for the rest
of eternity, so I reckon that's what's happened to the Broncos.

Speaker 3 (19:02):
Yeah, I think as well. It is a momentum game.
Not only is the game now a brilliant momentum game,
which I love about league, but also The NRL itself,
the competition's got, you either get momentum or you don't.
And when the momentum goes against you, then you.

Speaker 1 (19:18):
It's hard to get it back.

Speaker 3 (19:19):
Well, when you've already won a premiership, that's the thing,
is you've won it last year, so you're like.

Speaker 1 (19:23):
Who cares?

Speaker 3 (19:23):
I know what it takes to get back to that point,
and can we be... We just don't have the motivation.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
Can you come into an NRL season off the back
of a heinous bender and win it all? I would
argue probably not. Maybe not. I reckon that's probably what's happened.

Speaker 3 (19:36):
All Blacks coach Dave Rennie has put faith in less
experienced players... as part of his bid to go 2-1
up and win the series against the Springboks in Soweto
on Sunday morning.

Speaker 1 (19:47):
I reckon the headline here is there's been a bunch
of of changes, but I think the main one is
Cody Taylor out, Asafo Amua starting.

Speaker 4 (19:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
I have seen in the deep dark Reddit threads a
lot of people calling for that because of the impact
that Amua had when he came on.

Speaker 3 (20:02):
He's been playing well.

Speaker 1 (20:02):
So has George Bauer, who's also rewarded with a starting spot. So, yeah.
It's been pretty... The back line largely unchanged. I don't
think anyone would be surprised there. But Topovai and Sam
Darry are the locking pair.

Speaker 3 (20:15):
Satiti comes into the bench.

Speaker 1 (20:17):
Bench, Lakai starting. So, yeah, there has been a bit
of a change-up.

Speaker 3 (20:21):
Apparently, there have been some illness through the team as well.
They've got Reuters disease.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
Is that what it's called, Reuters disease?

Speaker 3 (20:26):
Yeah, they've got Reuters disease over there. Imagine that. The
record for Super Rugby's most capped player will continue to
rise for at least one more season. Brumby's prop, James Slipper,
who has made 212 appearances, that's a lot, has signed
for his 17th campaign, he's 37, and he wants to
wring the most out of his playing career. I'm sure

(20:46):
his body will love that later on.

Speaker 1 (20:48):
Oh, absolutely. Doesn't want to go over to Japan and
just take it easy and rake in the yen?

Speaker 3 (20:53):
Nah, why would you? Why not wring a few more
seasons out of the Super Rugby? And sixth place Taranaki
have beaten 11th ranked Auckland 28-12 to open round six
of NPC Rugby.

Speaker 1 (21:05):
Speaking of incredible feats of athleticism, coming up next after
Everlong by the Foo Fighters, I did a high rocks.
You did a high rocks? I have done a high rocks.
Between the last time you saw me and right now
as I appear in front of you, six packed up,
I have done a high rocks. I knew something was

(21:26):
different about you. New Dawn, Gerry, I'll tell you all
about it up next. Gerry and Mania, the Hodaki breakfast.

Speaker 3 (21:34):
I can't believe your news. Massive news for Mania Stewart.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
Gerry, I feel like growth is like rowing upstream. Not
to advance is to fall behind. And so in an ever.

Speaker 3 (21:45):
What?

Speaker 1 (21:47):
I don't even understand that. Well, look, if you're rowing
upstream and you stop rowing, you're going to start to regress,
all right? What I'm saying is staying static and staying
in the same situation that you're in That's the same
to me. And my mind is going backwards. I like
to be 1% better every day.

Speaker 3 (22:01):
So what happens when you come across some rocks or
a rapid and you're rowing up a river?

Speaker 1 (22:07):
You just find a way through. And that's what I
did yesterday.

Speaker 3 (22:10):
So you get out of the... Why also are you
rowing a boat up a river? But anyway, you get
out of the rowboat and you lift it up around
the rocks around the side?

Speaker 1 (22:17):
Or just row way harder. Just row real hard and
then go up the rapids. If you row hard enough, Jerry,
there are no rapids you can't conquer, all right? And
I've always said that. Yesterday, I performed in High Rocks.

Speaker 5 (22:31):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (22:32):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (22:33):
This is for people that don't know what High Rocks.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
Is.

Speaker 3 (22:39):
Yeah. It's exercises involved in pushing and lots of repetitions
with also some running.

Speaker 1 (22:46):
It's sports for people who can't catch a ball.

Speaker 3 (22:48):
Well, you've got to throw it up against a wall.
There's the ball throw against the wall.

Speaker 1 (22:54):
Yeah, and yesterday I performed on it. Actually, Zoe was
my High Rocks partner as well.

Speaker 3 (23:00):
Zoe did it as well?

Speaker 1 (23:02):
Zoe did a High Rocks too.

Speaker 3 (23:03):
Both of you did a High Rocks?

Speaker 1 (23:04):
Actually, Dilly's out in Studio B. He did a High
Rocks too. No, he didn't. Dilly wasn't there.

Speaker 3 (23:09):
I don't believe that.

Speaker 1 (23:10):
He was running vapes out in the car park.

Speaker 3 (23:12):
But we.

Speaker 1 (23:15):
So the gym across the road does classes. The one
that lines up with when we finish the show, it
was called one thing and it's now called High Rocks.
And I was like, I don't know if I'm quite
at High Rocks levels yet. But it fits with the schedule,
and I was like, no days off. You know, 1%
better every day sort of stuff.

Speaker 3 (23:32):
You know what high rocks means, though?

Speaker 1 (23:35):
Hybrid rock star, dude.

Speaker 3 (23:36):
Hybrid rock star.

Speaker 1 (23:37):
You are sitting across the table from a hybrid rock star.

Speaker 3 (23:41):
And the hybrid being exercises and running.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
Strength and cardio.

Speaker 3 (23:45):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (23:46):
Aerobic and anaerobic. Wow. And yeah, and I did one yesterday.
How do you feel today? Look, I feel great. I
felt great straight afterwards. I had to take my shirt
off and film myself the entire time.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
That's part of it.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
I'll be posting inspirational reels onto my Instagram very shortly
as well, just about being 1% better every day. I
will have a discount code off an activewear brand for
you guys very shortly. Hashtag big things coming. I noticed, Zoe,
for the second time in a row, you got told
off by the- she got told off by the instructor
I have no.

Speaker 4 (24:22):
Arm strength like no upper body strength whatsoever and so
last week when we did it she pretty much the
only person that she came over to and corrected was
me and she came up to me she gave me
like the baby weights the largest weights that you can yeah.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
She took some weights off her.

Speaker 4 (24:34):
And so yesterday pretty much the same thing happened again
but I took the weights off myself because I knew
this was going to happen I was like nope not
going to embarrass myself again so I took them off
myself and she still came over and it was like
a two-part exercise she goes Let's just focus on the
first part of the exercise.

Speaker 3 (24:48):
So there's like a trainer person who's watching you do
all of these exercises. And do they yell at you?
They yell at her.

Speaker 1 (24:55):
She didn't yell at me.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
Are they yelling motivational slang at you?

Speaker 1 (25:01):
Yeah, some of them do. You can't really hear what's
going on there because I'm sort of in my own world, bro.
I'm not really focused on what's going on around me.
Sure you are. I'm just focusing on being bit. Because
my enemy, Jerry, the person I'm trying to beat.

Speaker 3 (25:12):
Is me. Yeah, sure. You're focusing on looking good for
that shirtless content that you're trying to create.

Speaker 1 (25:17):
Yeah, that's right.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
Glistening, great light shirtless content. So are you trying to
lose all your friends? Is that the point of this?
Is that what you guys are trying to do?

Speaker 1 (25:25):
What I want is a group chat to pop up
with all of my old high school mates being like, hey,
what the hell is he up to at the moment?
Are you transitioning friend groups?

Speaker 2 (25:33):
Yes, yeah.

Speaker 1 (25:34):
I can only imagine that that's the only reason you'd
want to do this. I'm sick of all of the
friends that I have right now and I want to
abandon them and just become gym friends. Jerry and Minaya.
The Hauraki Breakfast. Jeremy Wells and Minaya Stewart. The Hauraki Breakfast.

Speaker 3 (25:50):
It's the Friday Top Five. In the past, we have
counted down the top five fonts. Cracks, eons, gingers of
great mana, biscuits, races, and mums.

Speaker 1 (26:07):
Last week, we did top five numbers. I believe a million.
Was the winner.

Speaker 3 (26:13):
Yeah, a million came through.

Speaker 1 (26:13):
69 and 420, stiff competition.

Speaker 3 (26:16):
Yeah, zero didn't feature. Yeah, because you've.

Speaker 1 (26:20):
Been running your anti-zeroist agenda.

Speaker 3 (26:22):
It's not a number.

Speaker 1 (26:23):
Jerry doesn't recognise zero as a number. No, it's not
a number. I do. I think it's got a right
to exist. Anyway, we're not going to re-litigate your anti-zeroist agenda. Today,
somebody's text through on 3483. How about the top five
New Zealand towns?

Speaker 3 (26:37):
Oh yeah, that's interesting. Off the back of the happiness survey,
which has been released as well, Dunedin topping the happiest
city in New Zealand. It's probably quite a good time
to do it, actually. So 83% of people who responded
in Dunedin said that their quality of life was good
to extremely good. which was far above the 77% of

(27:01):
people across the cities who responded positively in other cities
in New Zealand.

Speaker 1 (27:04):
Is that right?

Speaker 2 (27:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (27:05):
So Dunners are happier than anyone else? Dunners. Now, does
that canvass students?

Speaker 3 (27:10):
I'd say students would be part of that.

Speaker 2 (27:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
I mean, students give Dunedin a certain energy. They do.

Speaker 3 (27:17):
Because when the, I've been to Dunedin lots over the years,
but I've been there heaps when the students aren't there
and lots when the students are there. It is a, man,
that place is a different place. And if you're a
business owner in Dunedin, you want the students around.

Speaker 1 (27:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (27:30):
Because also the teachers and everything else that the university brings.

Speaker 1 (27:33):
100%. So for you, there's been a vote that's come
through already, Gerry, for the Greatest town of all time,
a vote for Whakatane and another vote for Whakatane from
the same person.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
Will you accept two votes for Whakatane from the same person?

Speaker 3 (27:48):
Whakatane, great place. I was once at a service station
in Whakatane doing a television show, Havoc.

Speaker 1 (27:54):
And Newsboys sellout tour. The one by the roundabout?

Speaker 3 (27:56):
The one by the roundabout?

Speaker 1 (27:58):
They're all by roundabouts. There's more roundabouts in Whakatane than
any other town in the country.

Speaker 3 (28:02):
I believe it was a BP. And I'm at the
BP and we're filling up the Falcon.

Speaker 4 (28:08):
And.

Speaker 3 (28:09):
A dude comes up to me just completely randomly and goes, hey,
I really enjoy the TV that you guys make.

Speaker 1 (28:16):
I was like, oh, thank you.

Speaker 3 (28:17):
Thanks very much. And I expected him then just to
sort of, you know. It was pre-selfies. It wasn't selfie
sort of time. It was before that. Phones didn't have
cameras on them at this point.

Speaker 1 (28:26):
Yeah, right.

Speaker 3 (28:27):
And then he goes, here you go. It's just something
for you and Mikey. And handed over a very large.

Speaker 1 (28:33):
Bag of.

Speaker 3 (28:36):
Material. Oh.

Speaker 1 (28:38):
Hold on. What kind of material are we talking? The
kind of.

Speaker 3 (28:42):
Material that you can grow. Organic material. Oh, okay.

Speaker 1 (28:47):
I see.

Speaker 3 (28:47):
Dried organic material.

Speaker 1 (28:48):
Yes, okay.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
And like a ziplock bag. Even bigger than that, like
a large bag. And I was like, I can't accept this.
And he said, you must. And I said, okay, I will.

Speaker 1 (28:59):
If you insist. I will. It was a custom.

Speaker 3 (29:01):
I will.

Speaker 1 (29:02):
Okay. So it's very kind of him to do that.
Nathan wants to second that as well. Whakatane born and
bred there. A vote here for Cambridge, fellas. Someone else
saying the happiness scale on a city reminds them of
Hot Fuzz.

Speaker 3 (29:14):
Oh, yeah.

Speaker 1 (29:14):
I recently rewatched that movie. That's exactly what's going on there.

Speaker 4 (29:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
I always wonder that about those happiness things. Like when
the Nordic countries come out as really happy, I think
it's face-saving. I think there's a cultural thing where they're like,
I can't say that I'm unhappy. So I'm going to
say everything's all good, brother. Yeah, well, that was always
Dunedin saying, wasn't it?

Speaker 3 (29:31):
It's all right here.

Speaker 1 (29:32):
How do you feel about gore?

Speaker 3 (29:36):
I have a lot of feelings of gore. I i
have i've mixed emotions around gore i have to say
obviously historically i have i've got history with gore yes
me and gore have history but i certainly got nothing
against gore or the gore community nothing against the gore
community absolutely absolutely not.

Speaker 1 (29:53):
Taylor Jonas, one of the three Jonas brothers, has voted
for Napier, breeding ground of old people and gangs. And
Sam reckons, can I get a vote for the small
town of the North Shore of Auckland?

Speaker 3 (30:07):
Yeah, I mean, you can vote for the North Shore,
I suppose.

Speaker 1 (30:09):
Well, give us a text, 3483. Or you can give
us a call, 0800 HODOKI, top five towns of New Zealand.

Speaker 3 (30:14):
Are we just going towns, not cities?

Speaker 1 (30:16):
Well, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
You tell me. It's the haddocky breakfast.

Speaker 1 (30:23):
Never miss Gerry and Manoa.

Speaker 2 (30:25):
Set the Hauraki Breakfast podcast to auto-download in your podcast settings.

Speaker 1 (30:31):
It's the Friday Top 5.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
Today we're looking for the top five towns as voted
by you. 3483 0800. Hauraki, you can still vote.

Speaker 1 (30:42):
There's a vote that's come through. I mean, there's been
a bunch that have come through for towns all up
and down the motu. Ashley has voted for Nos Kaitaia.

Speaker 3 (30:54):
Would you call it nose kaitai? I was there, actually,
about three or four months ago.

Speaker 4 (30:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (30:59):
I was getting more of a glass barbecue.

Speaker 1 (31:00):
I was going to say, big fan of a barbecue
out there. They love it. It's got the weather for it.

Speaker 3 (31:04):
Oh, man, there was so many. It was Barbies all
over the place.

Speaker 5 (31:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (31:08):
Barbie town.

Speaker 5 (31:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (31:08):
I vote for Greymouth, 20 years behind the rest of
the country. She'll be right. Oh, I like Greymouth.

Speaker 3 (31:13):
I love the smell in Greymouth, the smell of coal,
particularly in the winter. And then that barber comes through
in the morning, that katabatic wind down the Grey River.
It'll take the hair off the back of your neck.

Speaker 1 (31:22):
Te Awamutu, Pukekohe, Land of Potatoes. Good to know Jerry's
made peace with Gore. Sorry. Good to know Jerry's made
peace with the Lawrence, Gore, Balclutha and Tapanui Southland community, LGBT,
after all these years. Oh, hold on.

Speaker 3 (31:37):
I never heard anything from Tapanui or Balclutha.

Speaker 1 (31:41):
Lawrence, Gore, Balclutha and Tapanui.

Speaker 3 (31:43):
Or bloody Lawrence. Nothing ever happened to me in Lawrence.

Speaker 1 (31:47):
So you haven't made peace?

Speaker 3 (31:48):
Peace with the LGBT community I've made peace Manon the
question is has it made peace with me that's the question.

Speaker 1 (31:54):
Alright shall we rip into this top five alright then
at number five Napier breeding ground of old people and
gangs really dining out on the whole Great Gatsby thing.

Speaker 3 (32:03):
Also it does it does sort of pull in a
little bit from Hastings I think Hastings is like the
forgotten twin yeah it is it's like it's a bit
like Steve Waugh and Mark Waugh.

Speaker 1 (32:14):
There's also something going there's also something going on with
that beach there I don't know. There's something about the
undertow or something. No one's ever swum on it.

Speaker 3 (32:23):
You can't swim on that beach.

Speaker 1 (32:25):
No, it's a terrible beach.

Speaker 3 (32:25):
They should do something about that beach.

Speaker 1 (32:27):
Number four, Waiuku. The home of Beaver. Considers itself North Waikato,
although technically part of Auckland. Okay.

Speaker 3 (32:33):
You got a steel mill out there?

Speaker 1 (32:35):
Close to Glenbrook? I think it might be, yeah. Number three, Cambridge.

Speaker 3 (32:39):
The Tree Tower.

Speaker 1 (32:40):
Mangakawa Hill. Best blazing spot in the Waikato.

Speaker 3 (32:42):
A great blazing spot. Mangakawa Hill. Of course, Sanatorium used
to be up there. Overlooks the.

Speaker 1 (32:47):
Sanatorium? Or a sanatorium.

Speaker 3 (32:50):
Sanatorium.

Speaker 4 (32:51):
Oh.

Speaker 3 (32:51):
Sanatorium. You know where they... Used to send tuberculosis patients
up there.

Speaker 1 (32:55):
Oh, if you've got the black lung.

Speaker 3 (32:56):
Yep, and they used to have little huts because the
theory in 1910 was the best way to get rid
of tuberculosis, plenty of fresh air. Unfortunately... Didn't work. People
got pneumonia because they were exposed to really, really cold
temperatures up there.

Speaker 1 (33:12):
Number two, Waipakaro. It's actually kind of shit, but the
residents will get a kick if you name it on
the radio. It has an imaginary high school, Central Hawke's
Bay College.

Speaker 3 (33:19):
Yeah, when I was growing up, it was called Waipak.
They dropped the rest of it.

Speaker 1 (33:25):
Yeah, as often happens. Speaking of dropping the rest of it,
number one, Waimati, with over 50 friendly shops, homes of wallabies,
Kayleigh Bell and Big Norm Kirk. That is the number
one town in New Zealand.

Speaker 3 (33:35):
Are we sure that Big Norm Kirk came from Waimati
and not Kaipoi?

Speaker 1 (33:38):
We named the poll after him.

Speaker 3 (33:39):
Okay, but why is Kaipoi always saying that Big Norm
Kirk came from there?

Speaker 1 (33:43):
Because he was the mayor of Kaipoi, but he's from Waimati.

Speaker 3 (33:46):
Okay. Well, he got out of there, didn't he? It
says a lot about Waimati. The Warriors are virtually guaranteed
to finish in the top two on the NRL table.
It'll be between them and the Panthers for the minor premiership.

(34:07):
Also means that they'll play two playoff games in Auckland.
Will they be at Eden Park? Will they be at
Mount Smart? They'll be at Mount Smart. On Saturday at 5pm,
it's their last round-robin game against the Sea Eagles. Are
they paying $ 1. 30? Seagulls are paying $ 3. 50. Joining us now,
friend of the show, friend of the buzz, friend of
the nation, Dai Henwood. Welcome to the show. Top four

(34:30):
are locked.

Speaker 1 (34:31):
In, Dai.

Speaker 2 (34:31):
Oh, top two is locked in. We can't be knocked
out of that. And as you said, if we win,
we get two home semis. So we've just got to
keep winning from here. I don't know what you said
about Mount Smart. The NRL is really keen on... to
play at Eden Park, but the NRL gets the gate revenue,

(34:56):
so they're just keen on the biggest stadium possible.

Speaker 3 (34:59):
Okay. But don't they talk about this every year, all
this argument, and then in the end, I suppose scheduling
comes into it too. Is Eden Park even available?

Speaker 2 (35:10):
Yeah, exactly, because you might have a little Bobby Dazzler
between Auckland and Tasman happening at 4 o'clock in the afternoon,
you know? So you can't take that off the card.

Speaker 1 (35:21):
It'd be pretty low manner of Mount Smart to book
something in the NRL playoff window, wouldn't it? Yeah.

Speaker 2 (35:29):
But I think we will play at Mount Smart. There
is a slight argument, though, that because the Warriors, if
we do get the second final, that'll probably definitely be
at Eden Park. And because we haven't played at Eden
Park since 2016, there is an argument that the boys
might want to get used to the ground. running out
and all that carry on. But the mana flows at

(35:51):
Mount Smart. And before we focus on finals, we've got
an interesting game against the Seagulls. In our last eight games,
we've both won four. They squeaked over us at Four
Pines Park by one point last year. We're only resting
Wade Egan, and we've got some young guys starting, like

(36:11):
Eddie Inamia-Toiaba. So it's going to be a pretty exciting game.

Speaker 1 (36:15):
What about Chance being named at fullback and Tane Tuopiki
being on the bench? I think a lot of people
might have expected Tane Tuopiki, particularly the way he's been playing,
kicking lately, to start at fullback and put Chance back
on the wing. Do you think that this is Tane
getting hooked for letting a couple of tries in last week?
Or do you think this is an audition for the
playoff fullback spot?

Speaker 2 (36:37):
It interested me a lot because his goal-kicking over the
last few weeks has been absolutely sublime. I thought he
might slide to the wing, but Pompey has gone there.
And to people who don't know, Pompey's been told he
can have a look at Super League and so forth.
He's had a few bad games this year, but he's

(36:58):
been an absolute great clubman. I think Chance is probably
the better full-back going into finals just regarding his tackling.
He defensively calls the numbers very good. I reckon he
might have stopped Maju, the wrecking ball, last week. And Tain,
I think, has got the pace and the skill to

(37:19):
play the wing. So I wouldn't be sad seeing it there.

Speaker 3 (37:23):
Yeah. Are you confident, Dai, can we look forward? Can
we look like miles ahead? Can we look to October 4th, 5th?
sixth sort of vibe are you prepared to look that
far ahead or are you one of these people that
doesn't like going down those sorts of roads.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
Well i haven't looked that far but i have booked
an apartment next to the stadium and have tickets so
so i might have thought vaguely about it i'm definitely
gonna be there uh and i mean i me and
the fan i make a bit of a pilgrimage to
the ground every year for the grand final. And it
looks like the WASC will be in it. And, like,

(38:03):
I want us to smash Manly. I want us to
be like a wheelie bin down Baldwin Street. Like, we're
unstoppable going into the finals, you know? And because it
is a bit of a worry if you drop a game,
you know, and just get a bit out of form,
because we haven't done mass resting, so you can't sort
of blame it on that. And this Manly side have

(38:26):
found form. They've got some, the Travojevic's are playing well.
I've got this Clayton Farlalo, who's at six, who's just
lighting the world on fire. So it's going to be
a great test. But I think on Saturday at 5pm,
the Warriors are going to win it and we're going
to go and staunch to the finals.

Speaker 1 (38:45):
Minor premiers. Do you think, does the minor premiership mean
much to you?

Speaker 2 (38:51):
I think it means a lot to the club. Like,
it is a lot of respect. I think the owner
gets $ 100, 000 and he's poured a lot of money into
this club. But, you know, our outing against Manly doesn't
decide it because the Penrith play the Tigers in the
last game of the round and their points differential will

(39:13):
dictate whether we finish one or two.

Speaker 3 (39:17):
Well, no matter what happens, it's been a great season
so far. Looking forward to the game over the weekend.
Di Henwood, thank you so much for your time. Always
a pleasure.

Speaker 2 (39:26):
Always a pleasure. Have a beautiful weekend and enjoy your
rugby leg.

Speaker 1 (39:30):
Jeremy Wells and Mania Stewart. Find them on Instagram at
Hauraki Breakfast. Time to play. It's academic. Give us a
call now.

Speaker 2 (39:38):
0800 HAURAKI.

Speaker 3 (39:38):
0800 428 725 if you want to play. We've got
a $ 200 Bunnings voucher up for grabs this morning, don't we?

Speaker 1 (39:47):
$ 200 scucks. How would that go for you, Friday? Stephanie
from Whangarei joins us. Morning, Stephanie. What school will you
be representing? Okay, brace yourself.

Speaker 2 (39:58):
Mangakahia Area School.

Speaker 3 (40:00):
Mangakahia Area School? Where's Mangakahia Area School exactly, Stephanie, apart
from Mangakahia?

Speaker 1 (40:08):
So, west of Whangarei.

Speaker 2 (40:11):
Oh, yeah.

Speaker 1 (40:13):
Yeah, sort of halfway between Whangarei and Kaikohe. Okay. Any
famous alumni from that school?

Speaker 2 (40:19):
I wouldn't have thought so.

Speaker 3 (40:22):
Well, if you don't know, Stephanie, then there probably isn't,
I reckon. How many people went to Mangakahia Area School?

Speaker 1 (40:29):
Um, I couldn't tell you, but I know in my
sixth form class, we started off with four boys, four girls.
And by the end, there was just four girls left.

Speaker 3 (40:40):
Is that right?

Speaker 1 (40:40):
Expulsions or just going on to work?

Speaker 2 (40:43):
A bit of both, I think.

Speaker 5 (40:44):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (40:45):
Half and half. Okay. I like that.

Speaker 2 (40:47):
I mean.

Speaker 3 (40:48):
Certainly if you were wagging, it would be hard to
get away with it, wouldn't it? Only eight people in
the form.

Speaker 2 (40:52):
Oh, I never did because there was nowhere to go.
You're stuck out in the walk. There was nowhere to go.

Speaker 1 (40:58):
Classic area school behaviour. All right, here's your chance to
become the most famous person out of Mangakahia Area School. Stephanie,
five questions, get three right, win a $ 200 Bunnings voucher.

Speaker 3 (41:07):
And Stephanie, these questions come off the back of the
Libra sanitary pad. Would you like the invisible questions, the
extra questions, the maternity or the ultra-thin?

Speaker 1 (41:17):
Oh, jeez.

Speaker 2 (41:18):
Let's go ultra thin.

Speaker 3 (41:20):
Okay, good on you. That's designed to fit the contours
of your body and move with you. Ultra thin pads
deliver you the best of both worlds. All right, question
number one for Stephanie for a $ 200 Bunnings voucher. Which
country gifted the Statue of Liberty to the United States?

Speaker 4 (41:40):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (41:41):
Italy. Italy.

Speaker 1 (41:43):
No, it was France.

Speaker 3 (41:44):
How many sides does a dodecagon have?

Speaker 2 (41:49):
Dodecagon?

Speaker 3 (41:50):
Yeah, dodecagon.

Speaker 1 (41:53):
No, it's 12.

Speaker 3 (41:53):
Who played Tony Stark in the Marvel films?

Speaker 2 (41:58):
Nah.

Speaker 3 (41:59):
It was Robert Downey Jr. Jeez, Libra pads. These are
too difficult for Stephanie.

Speaker 1 (42:06):
Do you want to know the last two, Stephanie? See
how you would have gone? Oh, let's go on. Who
was the first person to walk on the moon? Oh,
what a banana.

Speaker 5 (42:19):
I should know this.

Speaker 1 (42:20):
He's dead anyway.

Speaker 5 (42:22):
I know that.

Speaker 1 (42:23):
Neil Armstrong?

Speaker 5 (42:24):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (42:25):
Oh, holy.

Speaker 3 (42:26):
This is embarrassing. I think you get the last one, though, Stephanie.
Which ocean is the largest on Earth? What's the biggest
ocean on Earth?

Speaker 5 (42:35):
Oh, the Pacific?

Speaker 1 (42:37):
Yes, definitely.

Speaker 3 (42:40):
They were difficult. I think if you went with the
maternity or the extra questions, I think you probably would
have won the $ 200 Bunnings voucher. Bad luck, Stephanie. Thanks
for playing, though.

Speaker 1 (42:51):
All right.

Speaker 5 (42:51):
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (42:52):
Lovely. Have a lovely weekend.

Speaker 1 (42:54):
Luck of the draw, isn't it? The Hodaki Breakfast. Hey, fellas,
I've got an update on the book. So our latest
hair brand scheme after buying sharks and feng shui-ing the
studio is we want to make, excuse me, a table talk.

Speaker 3 (43:15):
Could you just hold on? Did you just burp under
the mic?

Speaker 5 (43:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (43:21):
Look, I'm sorry. I'm real sorry. That's the ….

Speaker 3 (43:25):
Can you just mark that down at 17 past 8?
Thanks very much. We'll come back to that.

Speaker 1 (43:29):
That's the pre-workout.

Speaker 3 (43:30):
Sorry, we'll come back to it.

Speaker 1 (43:32):
It's the pre-workout also. I'm real fizzed up about this. So, yeah,
we're trying to make a coffee table book, top five
blazing spots in New Zealand. We, as we know, Keezy
spent the entire marketing budget on a pigeon. Hasn't won
a race, I don't think. And, in fact, I believe
a stoat made off with the pigeon the other day.

Speaker 3 (43:52):
I just pictured this goat making off with it in
its mouth, sneaking away. I think they just behead them
in the coop, to be honest, and bugger off.

Speaker 1 (44:01):
I think so. Deep fry them. Anyway, so we've been
talking about it. We've got the spots that we want
to do. It's going to be a lay flat, spiral bound,
hardcover book so that you can lay it on your
dashboard and you can have a look out at the
blazing spot and all of the different iconic monuments around there.
There'll be a little blurb. There'll be pictures everywhere. i'm
envisaging a qr code you can scan that'll take you

(44:23):
to a podcast we record at that spot so if
you want to go and sit there and listen to
us talk you through it that's all there i'll get
a message uh from paul hey mate was listening to
the podcast yesterday uh re blazing spots of new zealand
book i'd be happy to design it for you graphic
designer since i3 and from what you're describing you could
find a printer locally to bang that out fairly cheaply

(44:44):
um Another alternative could be to use those skills gained
from your shark-mongering escapades and firing up a Kickstarter campaign. No,
let's not go there. No, I'm still embroiled in that
Kickstarter thing. Anyway, thought I'd put my money where my
mouth is. Here's a couple of mock-ups of how the
top five guide could look. Also, no AI was harmed
in the production of these concepts. That's just good old-fashioned
hard work from the mainland. I've put it in the

(45:06):
doc for you. Jerry, have a go at that. Have
a go at Paul's mock-up.

Speaker 3 (45:09):
I'll tell you what, Paul has had an absolute blinder.
You've got the ring binder vibe, which I think is
really important because it's got to be able to sit
on the lap. And it's got to be able to
lay flat. Lay flat on the dashboard. That is so important.
He's done a beautiful blazing spots. I'm liking the font
that he's using. I'm liking the size. Also with the

(45:31):
map of New Zealand on the outside. Now I've opened
up the inside of it. And he's used Signal Hill.
which was one of the blazing spots that we talked
about when we found the top blazing spots around New Zealand.

Speaker 1 (45:43):
In Dunnas, yeah.

Speaker 3 (45:44):
Signal Hill looks southeast back over the city and out
to Port Chalmers. And so you've got Signal Hill, beautiful
double-page spread with the map of New Zealand and then
the spot of where it is. I'm really liking what
he's done there. Yeah. I'm so impressed.

Speaker 1 (46:03):
I like the layout. Paul's good. Paul's very good. And
in an age of AI, it's good to have someone
who's actually boots on the ground, good God's honest, actual
graphic design work.

Speaker 3 (46:13):
Yeah. I mean, there's a part for getting there. So
you find out how to get the accommodation.

Speaker 1 (46:18):
Accommodation is great. I'm loving accommodation. Also- Like you've set
a weekend aside for this.

Speaker 5 (46:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (46:24):
Assisted listening.

Speaker 3 (46:26):
As well, so songs to listen to while you're in
the blazing spot.

Speaker 1 (46:29):
Yes, a bit of inspiration here. Try listening to this.

Speaker 3 (46:32):
There's a bit of historical content as to why Signal
Hill was there in the first place. It's all there, man.
I'm really impressed with Paul.

Speaker 1 (46:39):
We're pretty close there, aren't we? Any changes you'd make
to that? Zero. Zero changes?

Speaker 3 (46:44):
Zero changes. I'm very happy with what Paul's done there.

Speaker 1 (46:48):
Okay, well, so Paul messaged me last night and said,
what do you reckon? He said, I can fire through
a proof deck in high res and If I give
him an email address, I said, I need to bring
it to the team. We need to have an open, honest,
raw discussion. No sacred cows. Yeah. I feel like we've
had that. No notes. No.

Speaker 3 (47:04):
No notes from me. Good work, Paul.

Speaker 1 (47:06):
Okay. So next step, we go back to Paul. We
give him the full list. He designs the thing. We
find a printer, and we may be hitting bookshelves ahead
of Christmas. Team, we all. Jerry and Mania, join the Conclave,
the Hauraki Breakfast discussion group on Facebook for more. Jerry
and Mania, the Hauraki breakfast. Time for the 8.37 Manukau's

(47:28):
Investigates segment that we like to do on a Friday.

Speaker 3 (47:31):
Good time to do it, actually, 8.37 on a Friday.
If ever there was a time to investigate, it's 8.37
on a Friday.

Speaker 1 (47:37):
Look, we have had David Lomas' lawyers reach out. He
was not happy with us stealing this idea, but I said, look, Dave,
unless you're willing to go to the lengths that I am,
Someone's going to do this, and it's going to be me.

Speaker 3 (47:50):
Manukau's Investigates, and then maybe you do Manukau's Missing Pieces,
where you bring people's families back together again. A real tearjerker.

Speaker 1 (47:58):
I'm willing to do it. I'm willing to do it.
This morning, and this could also be an 8.37 Overshare.
The other day, I did something that triggered the women
in our workplace, and I wanted to know if this
is something that goes all the way to the top,
if this is a shared experience for the female listeners
of this show. We were in a group chat, as

(48:20):
a lot of workplaces are. I ducked out after the
show for my morning ablutions. Gate one, my gate of choice. Yep.

Speaker 3 (48:31):
Sure.

Speaker 1 (48:32):
Sent a relatable meme into the group chat.

Speaker 3 (48:37):
Whilst in the cubicle?

Speaker 1 (48:39):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (48:39):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (48:39):
Walked back out to shocked and horrified faces in the
office going, how did you just send that? I was like, oh,
just you hit the little paper plane button and then
it goes. No, no, no, no, no. Didn't you just
go to the toilet? And I was like, yeah. And
they were like, and you were on your phone on
the toilet and send us a meme. And I said, yeah,

(49:02):
I did. It is what I did. And they looked horrified.
Do women not use their phones in the toilet? This
is a good question.

Speaker 3 (49:08):
I mean, I use mine. That's a brave question.

Speaker 1 (49:09):
My pants are sweating.

Speaker 3 (49:10):
Yes. I use mine.

Speaker 1 (49:11):
Rudy uses his at the urinal.

Speaker 3 (49:14):
That gets me.

Speaker 1 (49:15):
I've seen it.

Speaker 3 (49:17):
Let's not go there, but I've seen that. bizarre situation
where it's just like, I don't ever use my phone
at the urinal. No.

Speaker 1 (49:24):
Never. There's a bit on. And also the risk of
dropping it. Oh, totally.

Speaker 3 (49:28):
It's a whole thing.

Speaker 1 (49:28):
There's just no need. But if I'm parking up. Yeah.
Both hands free. What am I going to do? Go
in there and take a 90s dump? Just read the
back of the toilet paper box?

Speaker 3 (49:37):
I suppose, I mean, you could take moments yourself.

Speaker 1 (49:39):
Because remember back in the 90s where you would park
up and you would just like look around the bathroom.
There would often be a magazine or like a crossword
book or something in there.

Speaker 3 (49:47):
I had a flatmate years ago and he used to
go in every day at the same time and take
the newspaper in. And there was just something, I don't
know what it is, but when you take the newspaper
into the bathroom, it says, I'm going to be here
for a while.

Speaker 1 (49:59):
I'm parking up here, brother.

Speaker 3 (50:00):
And I'm doing some business in there while I'm there.

Speaker 1 (50:02):
One of the Newstalk ZB hosts from, they're a floor
above us. They used to come down the lift and
into the bathrooms that we have here and bring a
newspaper with them.

Speaker 3 (50:10):
You mean Leighton Smith?

Speaker 1 (50:11):
I mean Leighton Smith. Now, so yeah, but back in
the 90s, you would read the back of, there'd be
like a toilet spray thing and you'd read the ingredient
list off the back of it, or you'd read the
back of the the three-ply toilet paper or the one-ply
toilet paper. But, yeah, I just wanted to know whether,
and please reach out, women, on 3483.

Speaker 3 (50:30):
Well, let's, I mean, this is, obviously, we have a
woman in the studio with us, so we can at
least do a poll of one. But I would also
say this is the perfect forum to find out, like,
if you're a woman out there.

Speaker 1 (50:42):
You can reach out anonymously.

Speaker 3 (50:43):
And you do look at your phone whilst doing your ablutions.
Give us a call, 0800 HOKEY. I would say most
women don't. That would be my feeling.

Speaker 1 (50:55):
Is that your guess?

Speaker 3 (50:55):
That's my guess.

Speaker 4 (50:56):
What's your guess there, Manoel?

Speaker 1 (50:59):
Well, just from the reaction that I got out in
the office, I suspect that they don't.

Speaker 4 (51:03):
I mean, I can't speak for everyone, but I definitely do.

Speaker 1 (51:08):
Yeah, well, is it a generational thing as well?

Speaker 4 (51:10):
I see what you're saying. I think it might be.

Speaker 1 (51:12):
Because to poll the room, I've bravely admitted to it
first here, Gerry. I think I gave you permission to
speak your truth as well.

Speaker 3 (51:18):
Yeah, my truth is that I did something. I don't
see what the problem with it would be. Dilly? I
can't quite work out. Dilly's a big yes. Okay. And
Zoe does as well. And she's a female. I mean,
nobody's called in to say that they don't or that
they do. So that would say to me that maybe
everyone does. Maybe it was unusual that... Or maybe there's

(51:41):
that classic thing of people passing judgment because they think
they should, when in actual fact, if they're honest with themselves,
they do exactly that thing.

Speaker 1 (51:49):
Josh has written through. Now, I don't want to assume
his gender, but I already have by calling him his.

Speaker 3 (51:55):
No, I know some female Joshes.

Speaker 1 (51:57):
I use mine in the can. You can always tell
when my brother's dropping the kids off at the pool
because he bulk sends me Instagram reels.

Speaker 3 (52:02):
There we go.

Speaker 1 (52:03):
So there you go. Oh, well, I think we've concluded
it then. Manukau's Investigates. I'm happy to put a line
under this one. Women use their phone on the toilet.
Just before, I blew the lid off this thing. Found
out if it goes all the way to the top,
do women use their phone in the bathroom? Because I was.

Speaker 3 (52:25):
Chastised?

Speaker 1 (52:25):
I was chastised, yeah, for replying to a message whilst...
On the loo.

Speaker 3 (52:31):
You were chastised by a woman, and therefore you thought, well,
maybe this is what all women believe.

Speaker 2 (52:37):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (52:38):
I thought, she's speaking on behalf of an entire gender.
And so I decided to investigate that this morning live
on the radio. Should I have? Don't know. We'll see.
Text through on 3483. I use mine in the can. Oh,
that's the man who texts through. As a female, yes,
I do. If you say you don't, you're lying. Interesting.
So is that something that's going on here?

Speaker 3 (52:57):
Well, what we found out is that so far in
the studio, Zoe, she does.

Speaker 1 (53:02):
I do. You do.

Speaker 3 (53:04):
Dilly out in Studio B, he does. He loves to actually.

Speaker 1 (53:08):
He does his best.

Speaker 3 (53:08):
He loves it in there. He works mainly from, I mean,
some people work from home. Dilly works from cubicle too.

Speaker 1 (53:15):
Typical too, is it? Yeah. Shocking state yesterday. Absolutely fine
on the loads. Boring otherwise. What about this one here
from Vanessa? Female, 40s, no. Is it an age thing, Gerry?
Is it a name thing?

Speaker 3 (53:30):
Vanessa's. I mean, when I think Vanessa's, I think, yeah,
I don't think people that would use their phone on
the toilet.

Speaker 1 (53:36):
You don't think Vanessa's used there?

Speaker 3 (53:38):
No, I just think there's something about the name Vanessa.

Speaker 1 (53:40):
Okay, so it might be just Vanessa's and Kate's. Men
don't even eat enough fibre, so it'd take too long
having to heave it out. They need entertainment. So is
it a fibre issue?

Speaker 3 (53:50):
It could be for some people, yeah.

Speaker 1 (53:51):
Jeez, the more research I do here, the less I know.

Speaker 3 (53:53):
Yeah, it's one of those things, isn't it?

Speaker 1 (53:55):
I thought I'd found the solution there.

Speaker 3 (53:56):
I haven't. Well, the other thing that we were talking
about earlier on, which I want to bring back up,
is lint. We were talking earlier on about lint. L-I-N-T.

Speaker 1 (54:06):
The chocolate.

Speaker 3 (54:07):
Not the chocolate. The stuff that you find at the
bottom of your dryer.

Speaker 1 (54:10):
Or in your belly button.

Speaker 3 (54:11):
Because I think there's a whole lot of lint and
nobody's doing anything with it. Someone suggested on 343 this
morning that we should be putting it outside and birds
can use it for their nests. I'm not sure how
they know to use it. Do you put a sign
on it saying free to a good nest?

Speaker 1 (54:25):
No, it's just their default position. If they see it,
they'll be like, I'll be taking that, thanks. It looks
soft and fluffy.

Speaker 3 (54:30):
Well, yeah. I felt like maybe we could make jerseys
out of it. We could maybe reuse it somehow and
pretend that we're doing something good for the environment because
everybody's doing that nowadays. But it actually made me dig
a little bit deeper on what is actually in that lint.
Because obviously you've got the fabric and the fibers.

Speaker 1 (54:49):
Nothing good, I would imagine. Having just cleaned my lint
filter out of my dryer, there'd be nothing good in there.

Speaker 3 (54:55):
Yeah, but you've got soggy lint.

Speaker 1 (54:57):
Yeah. Why is yours soggy? Because, I don't know. I
don't know. But it is. Still? Well, I haven't seen
it for a while. It'll be at the West Auckland
landfill by now.

Speaker 4 (55:07):
Oh, yeah.

Speaker 1 (55:08):
Well, I'm looking here.

Speaker 3 (55:09):
So fabric fibres make up about 85% of the lint.

Speaker 4 (55:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (55:13):
So that's good to know.

Speaker 5 (55:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (55:15):
And when I say fabric fibres, apparently your cottons and
natural fibres are more likely to shed.

Speaker 1 (55:19):
Yeah. Okay.

Speaker 3 (55:20):
Because they've had the jab.

Speaker 1 (55:21):
Cash mares.

Speaker 3 (55:22):
Yeah. Polyester and synthetics you've got. you've got some synthetic
fibres that are stronger and longer, so they actually resist
breaking better than cotton, so they don't exit out of
the garments as much.

Speaker 1 (55:33):
But they also shrink. They do shrink.

Speaker 3 (55:35):
So that leaves 15%. What's the other 15% of that, Linda,
if it's not fabric fibres?

Speaker 1 (55:42):
Skin, hair, toenails, animal fur. I don't know.

Speaker 3 (55:50):
Yeah, that's bang on. Dead skin cells and dander. So
while household dust can be up to 20% to 50%,
skin flakes, which apparently are all around your house anyway,
your house is just full of dead skin.

Speaker 1 (56:06):
That's what dust is.

Speaker 3 (56:07):
Yeah, lying around down there. Washing removes most of the
water-soluble debris, and then the tiny percentage left gets bound
up in the tumbling fibres. Hair and pet fur. environmental
dust and dirt, and then chemical residues, microscopic traces of
laundry detergents, fabric softeners, and body lotions, which is possibly

(56:29):
part of the moisture that you've got in your lint,
which has a high moisture content. So it turns out
most of it is fabric, and then about 15% is
dead skin and dander.

Speaker 2 (56:40):
Gross.

Speaker 1 (56:40):
What am I supposed to do with it?

Speaker 3 (56:42):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (56:43):
Text through from Blair on 3483. My millennial girlfriend uses
her phone on the toilet. I, in brackets, millennial, So
it gets disgusting. When she tries to hand me her phone,
I shout poo phone and throw it back at her.

Speaker 3 (56:54):
Well, that relationship's going to go well in the future,
isn't it? Got high hopes for that one. What's going
on in the NBA at the moment? Isn't there some
kind of bizarre salary scandal, Manai?

Speaker 1 (57:09):
Yes, there is. So this was first brought to light
by a podcast about a year ago. It was called
Pablo Torre Finds Out. And what he found out was
that there's a salary cap in the NBA. You're only
allowed to pay players.

Speaker 3 (57:20):
$ 180 million.

Speaker 1 (57:21):
$ 180 million. A year. Only. And if you go send
over that, you're in trouble.

Speaker 3 (57:26):
Is there actually a cap?

Speaker 1 (57:27):
Yeah, there is. It's 50% of all the basketball revenue
for the NBA. Is this too boring for nine-ish?

Speaker 3 (57:34):
No, I'm loving these numbers.

Speaker 1 (57:35):
Okay. So anyway, you're not allowed to go over the
salary cap, obviously. That's the rule. But to get around that,
some teams have been accused of paying their players from
third parties. And the Clippers, who signed Kawhi Leonard, who's
one of the best players in the comp. He's been
a finals MVP for two different teams. He was their

(57:59):
marquee signing. And then this podcast, Pablo Torre Finds Out,
looked into a third-party payment that had gone to him
to the tune of, when they say eight figures, what's that?
That's $ 10 million plus, right?

Speaker 3 (58:12):
Ten plus, yeah.

Speaker 1 (58:13):
And the reason that it was confusing is because the
contract didn't require him to do anything. It didn't say
you have to show up to this media event. You
don't have to post on your socials. You don't have
to do anything and we will pay you tens of
millions of dollars. So they looked into that and said,
what is this? The company was called Aspiration, which was
a company set up to plant trees as carbon credits

(58:36):
to offset whatever wrongs your business is doing.

Speaker 3 (58:40):
I've done a bit of research into these businesses. Sometimes
they don't exist. The trees don't exist.

Speaker 1 (58:46):
That's what's happened in this instance. There was never a
tree planted. And they've dug up all of these emails
and texts between the owner of the Clippers. His name
is Steve Ballmer. You may know him of Microsoft fame.
So he was one of Bill Gates' homeboys. In fact,
I think he's still the owner of Microsoft. So they've
basically found that yes they whether he set that company

(59:10):
up or not they don't know but there was a
company he invested heavily into it they paid his star
player So they have been fined many millions of dollars.
Everyone's basically been sacked or told they're not allowed to
work in the NBA for the next five or one year.

Speaker 3 (59:24):
I see the Clippers were fined US $ 30 million.

Speaker 1 (59:27):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (59:27):
And have been stripped of five first round draft picks.

Speaker 1 (59:30):
Which means no trades for them for the next five
years as well. So that is the next basically like
five to 10 years of their franchise ruined in the tank.
They've just built a new stadium. They went all in
on this thing. They traded five first-round draft picks to
get Kawhi and have lost another five first-round draft picks

(59:51):
because they routed the salary cap. Okay. So the Clippers
are in the tank. Okay, so this is... It goes
all the way to the top.

Speaker 3 (59:59):
This is a big deal. Yeah, it is.

Speaker 1 (01:00:01):
It's one of the biggest punishments that the NBA has
ever dished out.

Speaker 2 (01:00:06):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:00:06):
So sell your Clippers stock.

Speaker 3 (01:00:08):
It's funny, isn't it, when you deal with numbers over
in New Zealand and it's like, you know, 100,000.

Speaker 1 (01:00:12):
$ 200, 000. $ 400 for a pigeon. Yep.

Speaker 3 (01:00:15):
But over in the States, he's like a $ 30 million fine.

Speaker 1 (01:00:19):
I mean, Kawhi himself, the player, he got fined $ 700, 000.
That's nothing to him. Now, here's another. Is this too
boring for the 9 o'clock hour? He's now been traded
to the Toronto Raptors, who are in Canada, a different country.
Is he fleeing potential... Legal issues.

Speaker 3 (01:00:38):
Yeah, you can always just change the name from Toronto
to something else if you want to. That'll be easy enough.
This is the Hauraki Breakfast. How are we going on
the pre-workout electrolytes, the Athena pre-workout electrolytes for women, which
we started today. I'm feeling pretty good, I've got to say.
How's everyone else feeling?

Speaker 1 (01:00:58):
Good, I thought, right up until I just got a
notification on my phone from the gym across the road.
Last night when I was motivated, I booked into a class.
I don't want to do it now. Um, so, and
they've just told me that I've got half an hour
to cancel it. So like I'm feeling good.

Speaker 3 (01:01:13):
But not that good.

Speaker 1 (01:01:14):
I'm just going to cancel this gym class stuff. That's
all good.

Speaker 3 (01:01:16):
Surely you've had the Athena pre-workout electrolytes for women. You,
I mean, surely you can go over there and do
a spin class or something.

Speaker 1 (01:01:24):
I would hate to, um, I'd hate to, to take
a spot off a woman. So I'm just gonna, I'm
going to cancel that booking. And then Zoe, you can
go to that one.

Speaker 4 (01:01:33):
No, look, that's okay. But do you know that they
charge you, I think, if you don't show up?

Speaker 1 (01:01:38):
Yes, I do. I've had my gym membership revoked for
a week before for not showing up to classes. It's
because it's the same thing that happens to tee times
at golf courses. So when they release them, people go
and book all of them across a week and then
just show up to whatever ones they want.

Speaker 3 (01:01:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:01:56):
It's a bit of a nightmare.

Speaker 3 (01:01:57):
Well, that was what was better back in the day
with the tee times where you actually call up the
place and book it to the person's Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:02:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:02:04):
And that way, so much better system. And that way you,
but you couldn't, you, they would know the people that
weren't turning up because there's a person who actually was
a starter that used to do it. Now it's all
online and people are stopping and starting and it's, it's annoying.

Speaker 1 (01:02:16):
And so what's happening apparently at some really rammed golf
courses is because, you know, they released them one week out.

Speaker 3 (01:02:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:02:23):
So every hour, another spot pops up on the website.
People have started running AI and, to book those spots
as they come up for them?

Speaker 3 (01:02:31):
Oh, no, totally. This has been going on for a
wee while now. So then people can't get onto those
golf courses. Yeah, there was actually a scam which was unearthed.
I don't know if I should be talking about this,
but there was a scam which was unearthed.

Speaker 1 (01:02:43):
Does it go all the way to the top?

Speaker 3 (01:02:45):
It involved the Asian golfing community in Auckland, and there
was actually a person who was running a few memberships,
and nobody realised, but you could sign up, And they
would book on your behalf. And they would not only
book on your behalf, but they had names as certain
members of the Asian community had names. And then you

(01:03:07):
didn't have to, nobody knew that those were actually not
the Asian people who had the memberships.

Speaker 1 (01:03:14):
I'm confused.

Speaker 3 (01:03:15):
Because nobody knew the names of some of these people
who were members.

Speaker 1 (01:03:18):
Right. Is their ethnicity going to come back into the story?

Speaker 3 (01:03:21):
Well, it's because nobody knew who the people were in
the club. And so they were just the names, they
were just Asian names that were members of a club
and then anybody could book those tea and use those
tea times with those Asian names. And people were like,
they didn't know whether it was this particular person of
the Asian community or this member of the Asian community.

Speaker 1 (01:03:40):
Well, they couldn't tell them apart, is that what you're saying?

Speaker 3 (01:03:42):
Well, they didn't know them. So yeah, they couldn't tell
them apart. It was a scam that was going, it
was unearthed. Yeah, right.

Speaker 1 (01:03:49):
Goes all the way to the top.

Speaker 3 (01:03:50):
Yep, goes all the way to the top of the
Asian community. How's your hybrid rock star situation going? You
feel like a different person today. Yeah, I did a
high rock yesterday.

Speaker 1 (01:03:59):
Why are you not wearing a shirt? I think most
people listening to the show today could probably tell I
did a high rock yesterday. Oh, look, I don't want
to go on about it. That's not part of high rocks.

Speaker 2 (01:04:09):
No, it's not.

Speaker 1 (01:04:09):
It's crapping on about yourself.

Speaker 3 (01:04:11):
It's all about humble stuff. It's humility is what it's
all about.

Speaker 1 (01:04:15):
But I want you to know I did do it,
but I don't want to talk about it. Sure.

Speaker 3 (01:04:17):
Is that how to get breakfast?

Speaker 1 (01:04:20):
