Speaker 1 (00:00):
The whole Achy Breakfast gets it for winter with buttings trade.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Jerry's away this week, so joining midnight on the hod
Ache Breakfast is the Great New Zealander.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Really yeah, Welcome into Wednesday, twenty seventh of May.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
Welcome and early.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Jeez. That story about the photographer the world's surf legs, Grima.
Speaker 4 (00:17):
They got Grimma, didn't that? Because we heard about this
early in the week and we were like, oh, that's
kind of funny. Is someone that ha ha? Now he's
going to learn to walk again?
Speaker 1 (00:26):
I just got progressive. Sorry, I don't mean to laugh.
It's obviously horrible for him. It got progressively worse and worse,
didn't they? Oh yeah, so he got but then it
came out. He still doesn't know what bit him. No,
that's right, although a sea lion was seen in the
area at the exact same time, so chances are it's
that put him in a show.
Speaker 4 (00:42):
You're trying to get him on the on the blowout
earlier in the week, and I'm really glad we didn't
because we would have asked some really sensitive questions.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
You hit it on the nose, mate, I feel like.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
I feel like that's probably why he didn't he would
have looked at our page and goes, no, this is
I'm going to have to learn to walk again.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
And you guys want to see even tendon's ridiculous. Even
know we hit seven tendons in our foot.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
No neither did I. It's a yank down into that.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
It must have been absolutely terrifying to also not know
what the animal was.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
I imagine your first thoughts shark. Right, your first thought
is shark. You're like, well, it's probably quite a small bite.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Also, then what do you do because I presume he
was sitting with his feet dangling in the water, straddling
his board. Once I've been bit like that, you're titanicing
that board backer, and aren't you not a.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
It's like nothing is touching the wall.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
It's like you know when you're a kid and you
don't on your arm dangling out of the beard in
case a monster gets here.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
That would have been basically it absolutely terrifying.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
So thoughts and preers, thoughts and prayers, man, and I
can one hundred percent Zo didn't come on this show.
Speaker 5 (01:45):
Jeremy Wells and the nice Stuart the Hot if You Breakfast.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Thanks to Bunning, Strade gets set for winter with the
new winter work with from Bunning straight. I'll tell you
what's going on, Ben Hurley. And that is a full
circle moment for you and I this week. Okay, fresh
off the back of you been down in Oda Matata.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
Yes it is. I think it's actually Canterbury. I didn't
think it seems too.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
It is technically on the Otago side, is it?
Speaker 4 (02:18):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (02:19):
I believe it, just only just so the White Taki
River is the dividing side, and because it's on that side.
But but fun fact about that, the Hacker Valley or
Hakatatamir Valley is technically part of that region, but on
the other side of the river. Now, that is where
Richard mccaur is from. So he is technically from my area.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
That's why he's made of stem stuff.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
That's it.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
And that's another full circle moment alongside this one. A
bus carrying the first fifteen from Saint Kivin's College, the
high school I went to the rugby team I never
made broke down near Oda Matata where you were. Just yeah,
while the team was traveling home from rugby trip, leaving
players stranded and cold central Otago conditions.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
You can attest to the conditions they were. It was
two weeks ago. It was negative too when I yeah
finished my show that's good stuff.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
The Saint Keibns College team were on their way from
Omaru where the school is, when their bus broke down.
Otamatata just stilled two hours away from Wanaka for their
Southern Schools Rugby Championship match against maunt Aspiring.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
College last Saturday. Who I believe it from Eshburton's. Yes,
at a.
Speaker 4 (03:27):
Local pub where I did the show we.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Used the show Matata's Best Damn pub located near the
White Taki Dams that power New Zealand, stepped into help
well staff and locals, feeding the boys, giving them somewhere
warm to wait and helping organize support while replacement support
was arranged.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
Good feed there and good folk there.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
Good spot, Yeah, big roaring fireplace in there. From memory,
absolutely yep, warm cozy. Actually this sounds like a pretty
good day. Yeah pokeys. Yeah, they would have let them
in there. But then fifteen minutes Saint Kevin's were back
on the road with a borrowed pub van with one
caveat returned the vehicle in the same condition it was
the livered The vehicle is otherwise used to transport some
(04:07):
of Odamatata's late night patrons home from being Hurley's gigs.
Oda Matata's Best Damn pub offers accommodation and hearty home
style meals like their famous roast pork sandwiches. Regular promotions
include tight AARs Tuesday, Wings Wednesday, and Joker Poker Fridays.
By the time they got to Wannica, Saint Kevin's still
had half an hour to warm up.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
They won their game against.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
Mount Aspiring College sixty to ten despite being passed from
the standard a pub for.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
A couple of hours.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
How's that for a full circle moment.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
That's what you want. It sounds like good prep. Yeah,
I think we should send the All Blacks to the
best Pada before they play the Bleederslow one.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
Hundred is brilliant.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Then that's just that good Southern hospitality were there on Tuesday,
Well on the weekend.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
Look, I could attest to the Southern hospitality there stop notch.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
We should get out for tight Ars Tuesday, Yeah.
Speaker 6 (05:02):
Jerry and midnight the hold Ikey Breakfast.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Earlier on this morning, we were listening to the headline
about the photographer of the world's surf League down and Raglan.
We heard earlier this week that had been bitten by
something in the water. I don't know how bad it
was or indeed what it was. A bit turns out
he still doesn't know, but the full extent of the
injury has been revealed. Seven tendons in his foot severed.
He said he got bit more or less twice by
(05:25):
something in the water that then bug it off. And
I think he promptly returned to shore something. Some of
that has happened to you, hasn't it.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
Yeah, So I live basically at why He Beach and
us in the water with one of my kids last
summer and it was the end of why He Beach.
If you know, there's patrolled, like you know, there's the
swim between the flags and by the surf club there,
the surf club there, and he's actually a lookout tower
there where they looked for sharks. Right so, and we've
(05:55):
been in the water where they've gone, okay, everybody out
of the water. There's a shark. It'll just be a
bronze whaler. But you know they do keep an eye
on it.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
How often does it happen, like once a summer, once
a week.
Speaker 4 (06:05):
I would say more like once a week. Really, Yeah,
they see a phone and they go, right, okay, probably
give up the water, yeah it now, and then they
bag her off and then you get back. And so
we were in the Yeah, we're in the water. It
wasn't overly deep, maybe like waist deep. And I kicked something.
I kicked something large and it swished, it swished its tail,
(06:29):
which you know, flicked me as it as it went away.
And because I didn't want to, you know, alert my kid.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
No, I don't know, you can't say anything because.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
She'd never get back in the water ever again, and
she'd walk on water like a cartoon to get out.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
I was just like, let's let's hop out that.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
Yeah, basically, no, I think I think I stayed in.
But oh my god, it was large. It was large,
and it had a swishy tail.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
How did you it was?
Speaker 4 (06:59):
It was?
Speaker 1 (06:59):
It did dad mode caken where you're like, I've got
to protect my daughter here by playing because yeah, something
very much because if something grays my leg, I'm out
of there and I'm crying.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
And I think I thought, if it's a shark, i'd
see it's thin. Maybe that's what I thought, and I
thought it was probably the Big King or something.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
Yeah, Travelli, I, I've had a couple of similar situations.
One in the water where I was in the overseas
in the Middle East and broken in a piece deal
and we went down to a beach in Dubai and
this is it looked like a stick, but obviously we're
in the desert, so I was like, where the hell
(07:37):
would drift wood come from here? And it just there
was gentle waves lapping up onto the beach, and it
was at night, so I couldn't see very well, very
well lit giant lights in that. Anyway, it came up
onto the beach and I walked over to look at it.
It was a sea snake, the black and white striped
sea snake crate.
Speaker 4 (07:56):
Crate.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
Yeah, well it was a crate and it was a
swapper c It just washed up onto the thing and
it was like flailing because it was still trying to swim,
but then crawl across the sand. I was like, what
the hell, so I made I obviously made a bit
of a scene. A couple of Jordanian gentlemen came and
joined me to investigate. They'd never seen a crate before either,
then the then the not security guard lifeguard. He came
(08:20):
down and he looked at it and I was like,
is that a sea snake? And he goes, no, brother, don't.
We don't have snakes here. We don't have snakes here.
I was like, I'm looking at a snake. He goes, no, no, no,
we don't have snakes.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Like, oh, what the hell?
Speaker 1 (08:31):
So I'd turn around and look back at the snake
to keep eyes on it, and it started getting washed
back out into the water. I turned back around to
see where the lifeguard was. He is sprinting back towards
me with like a butterfly catching net. Okay, after just
telling me that we don't have it.
Speaker 4 (08:46):
That they had provisions to deal with it, to.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Deal with snakes. Yeah, EVC just told me that they
don't have snakes. And so then that thing went swimming out.
I did the same thing that you do, because my
missus comes over. She goes, what just happened. I was like, nah, no, nothing, yeah, yeah.
She hopped back of the water and we went back
in this.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
Group of Jordanian gentlemen, there's about twenty.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
Then we struck up a combo so we could stand
in the middle of their circle, so that if the
snake came back, it would bite there.
Speaker 4 (09:11):
So yeah, those crates, they go, oh, they almost never bite,
that's what they tell you. But they say if they do,
it's very, very, very venomous.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
Jerry and Midnight the Breakfast, we've been talking about encounters
with wildlife off the back of the World Surfing League.
Feller getting his ankle bit by a mystery I don't know.
At this point, we're going to have to call it
a tuny far because we don't know what it was.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
Oh, yeah, good, I didn't even consider that.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
Yeah, my dad, when I was a kiddie, I don't
know why he did this. He traumatized me by telling
me there was a tiny fire stuck in every lake,
which you know is a common a common story to tell.
But myth, yeah legend, we'll go with myth. Problem was
I took it very literally and it just terrified me
(10:02):
going into lakes for the rest of my life. Even today,
I worry when I put my head under. No do
it because I've made a stern of stuff, But that
does freak me out. But we're talking about encounters with
animals and the and the water. You were body wartering
with your daughter with something brushed against your leg. I
saw a sea snake wash up under the beach. But
(10:23):
I've also had encounters on land in a similar situation
to what you had, where you can't tell the person.
So we're driving through the Kangahaka Gorge to going to
Todung at night because we'd lift after work on a Friday.
Horrendous traffic. So it's like eleven o'clock and we go.
Speaker 4 (10:39):
Yeah, of course, and for those who don't know that gorge,
it's it's a nice drive, but you know, at times
you're on the side of a cliff, yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
Cleff on one side and then river on the other.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
I'd liken it to a lot of those sort of
central Otago windy roads that you've got to go through there,
And so it's you've got to concentrate quite particular because
there's also traffic. It's at nights, your lights are on.
My missus is driving old mans had a skin full
and so as I'm looking at her, thinking geez, I
(11:11):
love her. Right out of the corner of my peripherals,
a cockroach so big that you wouldn't squish.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
It, right, so bigger than a mouse.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
I'd like a cockroach that might eat a mouse, a
cockroach that if you had hardwood floors you would be
able to hear it.
Speaker 4 (11:28):
Well, yeah, when they go black as well at that size.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
Yeah, they go black and they've got like racing stripes
down the side of them. This thing was an alien
and that had crawled out of the door with this
old holding that we were driving at that time, and
it had crawled out of the door cavity and up
onto the driver's side door window. And I'm looking at
that thing, going, well, if she sees that, we're both
it like she is, We're coming off the road straight away.
(11:53):
She sees that, So I'm like, well, how do you
negotiate this? So I go, hey, can we can we
pull over? Like that's eleven o'clock at night. I just
want to get where we're going. What do you need?
I was like, na, no, just got to check the
boot for something. She's like, now in the middle of
this gorge, is like, I need to go to the toilet.
She's like, You've had so many chances. I was like,
(12:13):
what do you do?
Speaker 3 (12:14):
What do you do?
Speaker 1 (12:14):
Because I was like, well, it's this or like immediate
death for us, and never run around. So I was like, no, no, no,
just I've got to pull over. I got to pull over.
She goes, I fine, she pulls over, and it's like
a gravel pedal. Maybe that pub that's halfway through that gorge.
It's not the Red Fox.
Speaker 4 (12:32):
It's the why I can't remember.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
Yeah, well, anyway we pull we'll pull over and do
a gravel pat and I was like, cockroach, I lost
my composure. At this point, she freaks out. She throws
the door open. The cockroach drops somewhere right. We don't
know where it could still be in the car. So
there's another ten minutes of where the hell is this
cockroach as it's still in the car, And then yeah,
(12:56):
we just had to flounder around try to find and
couldn't find it.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
Check the foot well, still not convinced it's not in there.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
But we had to keep going.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
And so it was a tense strive for the rest
of it.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
Sounds like a romantic weekend off to a good start.
Speaker 6 (13:09):
Jerry Aman nine the Hotarchy breakfast.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
Time for your sports headlines thanks to export O with
the beer for here.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
Warriors coach Andrew Webster has kicked TOMATOI Martin at halfback
for Sunday's NRAL match with the Panthers in Sydney. Luke
Metcalf is on the extended bench, but he's been named
to start at five eight for the reserves. So does
that mean if he plays? Yeah, and then someone goes
down and like training, say yeah, say Tomati Martin goes
down and training, he's gott to play back to back games.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
Yeah, like you're playing for your local club, we're playing
for under eighteens. And then he's like, hey, senior Bees
have had a blowout, can you come play half back
for sixty minutes? Like yeah, I can't see that happening.
But I also couldn't say I there was a period
there where I was thinking tinfoil hat Luke Metcalf never
plays for the Warriors again. But I think now, I
(13:58):
mean that's a big out of confidence. And look, Metcalf,
I do I don't think he's got an issue with
the club. I do just think it's he wants to
play half back because that's where you get paid the most,
you get the biggest opportunity. So that's why he wanted
to leave the club. I mean, it couldn't have timed
itself any worse.
Speaker 4 (14:17):
So he wanted a million bucks, didn't he when he
went on the market.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
Yeah, basically. And then the bulldogs said, and then the
dragons said, we'll do anything. We'll do literally anything. You've
never heard half of the dragon's roster. So they've got
enough salary cap space.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
So how do you think this plays out? Because is
he gonna want to sit on the bench behind to
Mighty Martin? Do you if Tomighty Martin's staying with the
club for another couple of years, do you relegate him
to the bench. He seems like a pretty easy going operator.
I don't think he'd care about I.
Speaker 4 (14:50):
Think I think he likes the fact that he's a
professional foota player more than anything.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
Are there some guys out there because I was like
this in my high school career? Was I would rather
be the bench slash not playing slash in the second
eleven or fifteen than in the top teen.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
Because yes, stress is not your friend, No it's not.
There's a lot more warriors than news. So I keep
going your poppies back.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
Oh, so RBS.
Speaker 4 (15:13):
Arts is out, that's right, wrap to a cl I
don't know if you're familiar with this, but the Warriors
have a pandemic.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
Oh my god, it is ridiculous pandemic. Metcalf last year,
bun Nit last year. Yeah, now Roger this year, Tena
just last week. We're gonna have an a CL on
the line later on in the show to ars and
what that's all about.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
Does it feel like this is more common?
Speaker 1 (15:35):
Like when you were watching rugby league and say the
nineties early two thousands, do you remember an ACL?
Speaker 4 (15:42):
I don't remember a CL being ever talked about.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
No, I guess I think because the ACL controls lateral
movement and back then you just ran in one direction.
Speaker 4 (15:51):
Yeah, that's true, north south right. Because the game's gone soft.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
Because the game's gone Yes, the game gone.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
Soft past Bawler. Jacob Duffy's return figures of three for
thirty nine from four is Bengaluru Domino Gujarat in the
IPL Cricket Qualifier playoff in durham Challa. The Royal Challenges
posted two hundred and fifty four five that Samul runs.
The Titans are one hundred and seven for eight, so
they are cooked the daft man.
Speaker 7 (16:18):
Now, the black Caps are playing Ireland in the Test
match that in the night and then They've got three
tests over in England after that, and there was a
story that Jacob Duffy was supposed to be back at
home waiting for his first kid to be Yeah, but.
Speaker 4 (16:29):
I guess that's takening this month. What the kidders the kidders, Yeah, ah,
not this month.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
I've been saying this on to any microphone you'll put
in front of me. But since India run World Cricket,
why can't they just clear out the whole schedule for everyone.
Like at the moment, all they do is sort the
schedule out for themselves and then places like New Zealand
and Ireland we've got to figure out where we can
play each other in the midst of all of that.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
I think the issue is there's a couple of countries
that don't get on with India very well.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
That's a good point. Neither of them are US of Ireland. No,
surely they could throw us a bone.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
And the New York next are heading back to the
NBA Basketball Finals for the first time this century. Wow.
After an Eastern Conference Final sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The next opponents will either be Okay See or the
nemesis from twenty seven years ago the Spurs.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
Oh they'll remember it well.
Speaker 4 (17:22):
Yeah, won't they? This series it's at two all the
game five is today from twelve thirty in Oklahoma. Won't
been Stiller? Be happy? Yeah, it's always been used to
be used to be Jack Nicholson and the Lakers. This
was the kind of celebrity they would always put the
camera on. And now it's been Stiller.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
In the next it's been Stiller, It's Spike Lee, and
then it's who's the fella? From June? Timothy Shallama is
trying to shoehorn himself in there. It's just the optics
of Chlamy doesn't look he doesn't look cool on the
sideline of an NBA.
Speaker 4 (17:52):
No, he doesn't.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
But that series, the Oklahoma San Antonio series, is probably
the best series of basketball I've seen, and maybe it
is that good awesome. Have you seen Victor win Minyama
is seven and a half feet tall.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
He's half man, half ladder.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
If you see him on the like he he makes
the court look smaller.
Speaker 4 (18:11):
Yeah, it seems like cheating.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
It kind of is.
Speaker 4 (18:14):
Yeah, it kind of is.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
If you are as tall as the Hope, it's a
bit of af You have to drop the ball down into.
Speaker 6 (18:20):
It, Jerry and Mni the hold ikey breakfast.
Speaker 1 (18:24):
Early the other day you mentioned, well, you asked us
a pretty poignant question. I thought you asked us what
supermarket carrying apparatus we we like to deploy you.
Speaker 4 (18:34):
Well, it's less than in more. How often do you
misjudge it?
Speaker 1 (18:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (18:38):
Because there's four right, there's four. There's nothing right that
you're just going into here two things and you can
carry it all right, hands and arms, hands and arms right,
So there's nothing. There's basket, there's small trolley, this big trolley.
Those are your options. And I think I always always
underestimate how much I'm going to purchase real okay, or like,
(19:00):
particularly if I go with nothing, which is I prefer
over a basket? Yeah, because a basket, I don't know,
seem I feel like an an old lady. Yeah, I
feel like an old en. I don't know why.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
Now you don't have to hook it into your elbow
and carry it like that.
Speaker 4 (19:13):
Oh you don't know.
Speaker 1 (19:13):
You don't have to.
Speaker 7 (19:14):
And limp around us and walk as slow as you
possibly can as well.
Speaker 4 (19:17):
You don't have to do that. I realize this is
an issue with me. Nah, that's my problem.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
Well, this is why you bring it to these forums
early to find out whether that does affect other people.
We are a I am a weird possible I will
not go to the supermarket.
Speaker 4 (19:31):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
I don't know which one of the million disorders that
TikTok diagnoses you with every time you open the app
I have, but whichever one it is, it means that
supermarkets for me meltdown territory too overwhelming, people standing in
front of you, people randomly turning around, people reading the
back of a musical box while I'm trying to grab something.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
It just drives me insane.
Speaker 4 (19:51):
Yes, so you would hate Tuesday's gold card day at
my local supermarket where there's a lot of old people
there exactly that and me Jerry quite often highlights this.
The husband and wife boomer oh couple a tag team
where he's driving the trolley, she's doing the shopping, and
she's made him come because he just needs to get
(20:12):
out of the house.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
Yes, and then he's standing in their mouth wide open
catching flies, steering at things. Terrified. Me and the missus
run up like a military operation where I am like
the htm NS it is takaha and I'm just charging.
Speaker 4 (20:26):
Forward and a steady but you can't do it very fast.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
I can't turn very fast, but I will turn up
and down every single aisle. And then she's a little
satellite frigate, just shooting back and forth, grabbing all the
stuff that we need.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
So what does it say about you if you constantly
underestimate how much you're going to purchase?
Speaker 3 (20:42):
I mean, so you're you're going in.
Speaker 1 (20:45):
Sands anything, sands anything, or I go Occasionally when I
relinquish and get the basket, I'm like, I'm buying way
too much for that basket.
Speaker 4 (20:55):
Like I'm blowing my acl carrying that basket.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
And so will you go back and get the basket
if you if you realize you've misjudged it.
Speaker 4 (21:03):
I mean, that is that's the worst. That's that's the
most deshrinkring.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
So while everyone's coming through the little gates, you're standing
there friandically trying to put all your stuff back.
Speaker 4 (21:12):
The thing is, if you have to buy a bottle
of wine or it doesn't beers, that really ruins it.
As well.
Speaker 7 (21:17):
Min and I go to the same supermarket. We both
go to a Pack and Save, And at Pack and
Saves they don't actually have baskets, so I've been none.
So you either have just the hands free I guess
is what you call it, or the small trolley or
the big trolley.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
Yeah, I don't have a lot of small trolleys of
that one either.
Speaker 7 (21:32):
Don't and that gets annoying. But the other thing that
I've been known to do is I'll go in as
you and I think I'm going to get two or
three things, and I realize I've gone too deep, and
i will find a box that's on display, and I'll
empty the box. I'll get all the chips out of
the box, and then I'll grab the box and start
filling up the box myself. And then at the and
(21:52):
then this is unbelievable. And then at the end, I
also don't have to buy a bag because I've got
the box.
Speaker 4 (21:58):
Got the box, dude, I did not know that was
an option.
Speaker 3 (22:01):
That might be the solution that you were looking for.
Speaker 6 (22:03):
This is unbelievable, Jerry and Midnight the hold I keep breakfast.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
Just talking about shopping trolleys, shopping baskets and underestimating the
amount of things that you will be buying. So you've
got to go back and grab another basket. This is
something that happens to you quite often.
Speaker 4 (22:17):
It does. Do you know what I've never had to
do though, which would be, you know, quite an operation
would be if you go, if you go small trolley
and then you buy too much and you have to
go big trot.
Speaker 1 (22:30):
You've never got trolley.
Speaker 4 (22:31):
I've never upgraded from small trolley to big trolley mid shop.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
No, I don't think I have either.
Speaker 4 (22:35):
But that would be that would take you a bit
ten minutes.
Speaker 1 (22:39):
It'll be an absolute disaster because you've also got to
go back through the barrier to grab yourself from bogue
and then come back through again. We we're a small
trolley family. I'm a trolley connoisseeur. I consider myself a
connoisseeur of trolleys.
Speaker 4 (22:51):
Maybe you should be like a caddy and you could
stand there buy the trolleys and people would go and
you'd go, hello, welcome to you know whatever supermarket.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
Can I see your shopping list?
Speaker 4 (23:02):
Yeah? Can I see your shoping list?
Speaker 1 (23:03):
And if I say I don't have a shopping list,
get out, get out, don't come here with that. I
recommend Could I recommend the small sized shopping trolley?
Speaker 4 (23:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (23:13):
And for you, sir, a basket. You're going to be
okay with the hands and you. Why don't you go
and try and find a box somewhere to pull the
shit out of the box to put all your stuff
inside that box, because you would.
Speaker 4 (23:22):
Work in a contingency, wouldn't you. You'd be like, Okay,
you're going to have to plan for ten percent of
extra superfluous stuff that you didn't think they were going
to buy.
Speaker 3 (23:30):
I'd have a little thing like a bouncer, you know
the walk you're talking.
Speaker 4 (23:33):
Yeah, he's underestimated.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
We got earlier in there.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
He's under we're gonna need a basket.
Speaker 4 (23:38):
Get him. Small trolley stats small trolley.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
Somebody takes it before and said, you're forgetting the fifth
wild card option at the supermarket kiddie novelty trolley.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
Now have you ever used some of.
Speaker 4 (23:49):
Those only when I've preloaded before I've gone to the supermaket.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
Yeah yeah, yeah, So I've done multiple shopping trolley reviews
on this show before.
Speaker 4 (24:00):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
Pack and Save Westgate in Auckland is the best, small
best in the small shopping trolley game. They've had a
recent refresh restock. They're quite hotly contested, so it can
be hard to get hold of one. I will say
that they handle well. The handling doesn't deteriorate under load.
Speaker 4 (24:18):
They tend to be newer. The smaller shopping trolleys too,
so yeah, less likely to get a.
Speaker 3 (24:24):
Bunglan No exactly.
Speaker 1 (24:25):
So you'll never see the front one front wheel just
spinning around. Yeah, the bars are clean. There's not often
like a lettuce leaf at the bottom of that thing.
I have been to a New World recently where they
had plastic shopping trolleys. Awful, awful experience.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
Yeah they do.
Speaker 1 (24:40):
That's awful, nice and light, I will say that, so
probably for the oldies that'll be good. But it just
doesn't stand up underweight. You lose all handling once that
thing's underload. And the other thing is static shocks. You're
getting lit up like a crystal Australia. You're wheeling that
thing around.
Speaker 4 (24:54):
Is a text here. I love a good four square.
They have a stack of baskets halfway around just in
case you end up with too much to carry. And
also they have some decent coffee and donuts too. I
don't know if the four square guy has actually texted
in here. Well I am I am the voice of
four square. Are you in the pocket of Big Force?
But maybe you text it in? But also full square?
(25:15):
What'll it be today, Jerry?
Speaker 5 (25:18):
And then I joined the complaint the Hodaki Breakfast discussion
group on Facebook for more.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
We were just talking about what receptacle do you use
when you go to the supermarket. Hurley likes to just
go and use his hands.
Speaker 4 (25:31):
Yeah, like a man.
Speaker 1 (25:32):
Like a man, that's right, but as every now and
then caught out where he has to go back and
get it constantly get a basket. Someone said, if you
had a reusable bag, would you just use that take
that up the aisle?
Speaker 4 (25:44):
Yes, although I feel like shoplift. It looks like shoplift.
Speaker 1 (25:48):
Someone else said, I just put I prefer to put
stuff in my hoodie and pockets. Then it becomes free.
Speaker 4 (25:54):
Yep. So you've got an issue there.
Speaker 1 (25:56):
And then Ratchard's texted and said, I just see how
much stuff in my four year old.
Speaker 4 (26:00):
That is usually coming up on the breakfast coming.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
Up after seven o'clock. The Michelin Star is coming to
New Zealand. That's the food. Yeah, food ratings probably not quite.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
For the you'd say it was the fanciest restaurants in
the world, but they also do like tires. Yeah no,
but it can be like a food store can have
a Michelin Star, yes, into one that we're like a truck.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
Yeah yeah, so's it's basically the star that you get
for being the best of the best. I think Gordon
Ramsey is one one has many you look in at
j Anthony bore Dates, Yes, there's one one, So that's
that's the sort of level. But that always two fancy
and there's never somewhere you're actually going to go. So
coming up after seven o'clock, we're going to award the
Hidarky Stars. What are the food establishments that you'd think
need recognition that you'd actually go to.
Speaker 4 (26:47):
And what dishes you know what, because it's usually one
dish that sets it off.
Speaker 1 (26:52):
Yeah, so it could be the Snapper filet from the
Warrington Takeaways as it.
Speaker 5 (26:56):
Yeah, absolutely, Serian Mania catch the radio show from sixt
weekdays and the Hidaky Breakfast.
Speaker 6 (27:03):
Jury's away this week.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
So joining midnight on the Hodaki Breakfast is the Great
New Zealander beIN early.
Speaker 3 (27:10):
Yeah, welcome to the show.
Speaker 1 (27:11):
It is Wednesday, the twenty seventh of May, State of
o Tonight Hurley.
Speaker 4 (27:16):
Yeah, State of o tonight and New Zealand play Ireland
and a Test match. Oh and a weird four day
Test match.
Speaker 1 (27:22):
Yeah, it's a real nightmare for anyone whose alarm goes
off before five o'clock.
Speaker 4 (27:25):
I think I just turn all noted.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
I think I'm going to have to bend it Inbound
Big our Radio coming up between now and eight o'clock.
It's academic. That's our quiz segment one hundred dollar Bunnings
about your up for grabs. And today we want someone
from Highway to high that's been Hurley's yea alumnus.
Speaker 4 (27:43):
If we can't find if we can't find one, I
will I will represent Yeah, my school.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
And that's a direct threat. So if you went to
Hartward of High School, give us a call. One hundred
hiduchy about seven forty will be doing that. Plus your
chance to win one of two Street Dog electric motorbikes
and join our gang. First one giving away this Friday
on the Big Show. Plus we've got a physiotherapist on
the horn. We want to find out why so many
people are doing their acls. Is this a new thing
(28:10):
where a CLS only invented ten years ago. It is
an epidemic, and it is spreading to your favorite athlete.
So I'm sick of it. We're going to get a
physia on the line down the track up next to
Michelin Stars.
Speaker 3 (28:21):
They're about stuck getting dished out here in New Zealand.
Speaker 1 (28:23):
What restaurants, what takeaway joins, what burger shops for Chinese tagways,
what they did?
Speaker 3 (28:29):
Joint needs a Michelin Star, and you're able to start.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
I would have start.
Speaker 6 (28:34):
Jerry in the night they breakfast.
Speaker 1 (28:38):
I see that Michelin is bringing their stars to our shorees.
Speaker 4 (28:41):
That's right. The Michelin Guide will announce its first New
Zealand restaurant selection at a ceremony in Auckland next month,
marking the Guide's debut in Oceania.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
Well, you know, first of all, I didn't know that
we were exempt from I just assumed that no one
had ever earned it here.
Speaker 4 (28:57):
Oh yeah, no, no, no, it was that no one
had ever been here from that particular guide obviously. Yea,
all through Europe, it's there in America and Japan, I
know that has it there, Hong Kong, Taiwan, those sort
of big yeah, rich Asian countries.
Speaker 3 (29:15):
And I just found out and actually somebody takes through.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
You know. The Michelin Star came about as a way
for the Michelin tire company to sell tires back in
the day.
Speaker 3 (29:23):
It is the same company, It is the same.
Speaker 4 (29:25):
It's a weird crossing.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
Yeah. They would give a restaurant a Michelin Star and
make people drive all over the country wearing out their
tires so they'd buy new ones. Apparently fair enough. I
put a puff jacket on the other day. My missus said,
I look like that tire guy. She was referring to
the Michelin man. Oh yeah, that's rough. We're on the rocks.
Speaker 4 (29:41):
But marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters, I spoke.
Speaker 1 (29:46):
We have, but not far off in the genre in
the same realm anyway. They're bringing them to our shores.
Have you ever been to a Michelin Star restaurant?
Speaker 4 (29:53):
Yeah, I think one in Hong Kong years ago, and
actually one in Belfast in Northern Ireland shooting the two
TV show and we splashed out and went to Michelin Star.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
Is it one of those things where, because it's so
highly rated, you immediately go in and go, oh, it
can't be that good.
Speaker 4 (30:09):
Yeah. As a key we absolutely yeah, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
There was one in a moll and Dubai that is
technically like a food truck.
Speaker 4 (30:17):
Yeah, so it doesn't have to be super fancy food,
Like you can get a Michelin Star at a food
truck or a stall in a market or something like that.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
This was in a mall and we went to it
was the world's cheapest Michelin Star restaurants me about twenty bucks.
Speaker 4 (30:32):
That's fine, but we're giving out a Hodaki stars.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
Yeah, for more realistic food options, because when you see
the place that win there's you're like, I'd never go there.
It's like fine dining. I can't afford it, and they're
going to be sold out.
Speaker 4 (30:45):
I see as well.
Speaker 7 (30:45):
That as for local restaurants, so you couldn't obviously get
chained from overseas. But like if I think of a
chain store in New Zealand, something like.
Speaker 3 (30:53):
The White Lady.
Speaker 7 (30:55):
If the White Lady was to get one, and there's
maybe three or four white ladies around the country, all
given were just that particular one.
Speaker 4 (31:03):
Yeah. Interesting.
Speaker 1 (31:04):
I don't know if a chain restaurant has ever been
awarded a Michelin Star.
Speaker 4 (31:07):
I mean, how many white ladies are there? There's the
there's the one and there's one on K Road.
Speaker 7 (31:12):
There's a pop up, and there's another one out my
way out out we Stockland.
Speaker 4 (31:17):
Okay, right, the Aucklander Burger, I guess would be up
there for you know, in the running for a Michelin Star.
Speaker 1 (31:23):
Yeah, so we want to know on three four through
h eight hundred, Haidaki, what is your local joint that
deserves a Hidarky Star. The Michelin Star is a little
bit too flash.
Speaker 4 (31:31):
Yeah, we've got a few here already, hay Led it's
my vote. Would go to West Town Bakery, New Plymouth.
The chicken roll in cheese and bacon bun, hot chicken
burger roll and the chicken and chips, undefeated World Champion
of Bakery Cheers Andy Powerful, that sounds great. Michelin Star,
the hot and crispy boneless meal from Kunti more KFC
(31:53):
and Guzzy. Now is that a particularly good KFC?
Speaker 1 (31:56):
They just know how to do it down there in
Gussy What would you go for her if you're dish
one out?
Speaker 4 (32:01):
So we've had a lot of talk about my hometown
of Harwarda today, But the Anderson's Pie pizza pie. So
it's an old school new Zealand pizza and a pie
like homemade pizza, like homemade old you know, we used
to put spaghetti on pizza. We used to be a country.
We used to be a country. We used to have culture.
We've lost their identity. But yes, so it's got tin
(32:26):
spaghetti in there, got it's got pineapple, it's got bacon,
it's got cheese and a.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
Pie and a pie warmer for thirteen hours.
Speaker 4 (32:33):
Yeah, it'll absolutely mount your face off ohl with it.
Speaker 3 (32:37):
It sounds delightful for me.
Speaker 1 (32:38):
Give me the Fairly bake House down there in South Canary.
That place, I mean it shuts. It's credit an entire
economy around there. They do a pork belly pie with
apple sauce in it and crackling on top of the
lid of the pie. Okay, it doesn't get much better.
Speaker 4 (32:54):
You've given me a Oh, you've just reminded me of something.
It's a place called Moco in North Tute, kind of
North Tanaki King Country border. I would say, delightful little town.
And there's a place there that does a pie. It's
a beef and oyster pie and it's it's like a
slow cook beef. It's got one oyster in the middle
(33:15):
of it in pastry, in pastry, my gout, just flir
it up.
Speaker 6 (33:20):
Jerry and the Darchy breakfast from.
Speaker 1 (33:24):
The middle of dishing out the Darky Stars. Off the
back of the news that the Michelin Stars, for the
first time ever, are coming to our shores to rate
our establishments, we can already foresee an asue though they
are just going to go to flash restaurants you've never
been to, you know what I mean, And you might
go for a very special occasion. Yeah, yeah, even then
(33:44):
and you're going to be disappointed because they've been so
hyped up. So we thought, what are the good gods
honest Kiwi establishments that deserve a hidarky star, Something that
means something.
Speaker 4 (33:53):
Really, that's right, something that people need.
Speaker 1 (33:55):
Yes, that's right. I've thrown out there the Failey Bakehouse,
which is in Phile. I don't think that you'll find
a bit of pie in the country than that place.
Absolutely tremendous. I recommend the pork belly with the crackling
on the top. They also do a salmon pie. Sounds gross,
not it's quite good.
Speaker 4 (34:11):
That sounds great.
Speaker 1 (34:12):
And the tickets have been coming in thick and fast,
for your Hodaky Stars.
Speaker 4 (34:17):
Either you bake or tim and roast.
Speaker 1 (34:19):
Yes, yeah, I I went to U Bake. Actually that
was sort of my local. Used to work out and
washed oke there and tomorrow and.
Speaker 4 (34:27):
That sort of industrial area.
Speaker 3 (34:31):
That's not what I did. That's where I worked.
Speaker 4 (34:32):
Okay, I thought that was one of the places there.
Speaker 1 (34:35):
They washed themselves. But I but you you bake yet tremendous,
tremendous Field Roles pies all.
Speaker 4 (34:43):
Sorts, Hansan and Mount Whally deserves one best spring roll
Vermicelley in town hens Down. Wow.
Speaker 1 (34:51):
I presume they've tried them all as well.
Speaker 4 (34:53):
I just like that text because it roamed.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
Patrick's Pies and Totunger. So many gold stars, so many
outstanding pies.
Speaker 4 (34:59):
Yeah. The chicken burger and fries from the Orango. I
don't know whether Rang Hotel I see totally worth the chlamity.
I shouldn't have read it.
Speaker 1 (35:10):
Didn't get any words you'll.
Speaker 4 (35:12):
Get from your day trip to the tri and for
the burger alone, Yeah, you take that.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
You take that risk one hundred percent, particularly for a
Hodaky star eaten noodles all day, that's from dessert.
Speaker 4 (35:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (35:23):
The Littleton Bakery guinnus peppered steak and cheese, Steak and
cheese with the kiwi onion dip in it.
Speaker 4 (35:29):
Oh he's out, Yeah, jeez, because there's a whole other thing,
right the UNESCO. You know that that that withhold human culture. Yes,
that there's certain cuisines that are in there, like Italian cuisine,
and I think that like the margarita pizza is in there.
I believe you know, there's some curries that are that
(35:50):
are protected.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
Like protected dishes.
Speaker 4 (35:52):
Yeah, so if you make them a certain way, then
you get a plaque from UNESCO saying that this is
the real way to make them.
Speaker 1 (35:59):
Was it Bill English that the pizzas with the spaghetti
that's got to go.
Speaker 4 (36:03):
On the list? I mean, your Zeiland's got to have
pies in there. Surely nowhere else does pies like us.
Speaker 7 (36:10):
I feel like you guys are going to judge me
for this. But there's an Evandale and Auckland. There's a
bakery called the Pastry Chef, and my favorite thing to
get from there is there. Well they call it a
smoked fish bread case, but it's effectively just a piece
of toasted bread with like tuna fish in it. Creamy
tuna fish beautifully done and then just cheese on the
(36:32):
top and simple.
Speaker 4 (36:35):
It is simple.
Speaker 7 (36:36):
And while you might think heated tuna fish and a
piece of bread doesn't sound that good, I.
Speaker 4 (36:42):
Can't go past it. I'm a big seafood guy.
Speaker 1 (36:45):
Yeah, would you check cream corn on that thing?
Speaker 4 (36:47):
Oh? That sounds good. I tell you what's good. In
the cargo airport, it's right. They do an entire breakfast
in a pie.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
Okay, what are we talking?
Speaker 4 (36:57):
So it's got a sausage sticking out out of it,
sticking out of it. Good stuff and hash brown in
an egg and a pastry casing.
Speaker 3 (37:06):
No bacon, the chuckle bacon in there?
Speaker 4 (37:08):
Maybe they must be bacon in there too.
Speaker 1 (37:10):
I don't mind that Natalie has taxed in the Star
to Hampton Takeaways Fish and chip shop just down past
on Maru on the top of the hill. There meet
Patty and Chips, highly rated. How good They went on
a run there of in the early two thousands, winning
best fish and chip shop in the country quite a
few times. Anything from Yarrow's Bakery and Mini and Manaia.
Speaker 4 (37:30):
You know that you have a town named after you,
and yes I do.
Speaker 3 (37:34):
I've never been there.
Speaker 4 (37:35):
Named after you. I mean it's been there for a
couple of hundred years, but definitely named after you.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
Yeah Brig Capital of the.
Speaker 1 (37:43):
Yeah next summer through three four eight three Ashy Bakery
Cream Cheese and Jalapena saucy roll for the hijacky start.
Speaker 6 (37:53):
That sounds great, Jerry and Mni The Hodarchy Breakfast.
Speaker 1 (37:58):
So news out yesterday. It's been confirmed New Zealand warrior
Roger two of Vasaschek is the latest high profile athlete
to rupture his anterior cruciate ligament. He joins a long
list including Tanner Boyd Luke, Metcalf, Mitch Barnett teammates who
have done their acls in the last year. There have
been eleven in the last couple of years and the
NBA we're seeing them absolutely everywhere and to find out
(38:21):
what's going on. Joining us on the phone someone who
knows better than us, director and physiotherapist at the Urban
Physio in Auckland. Welcome to the Hodarky Breakfast, Katherine Royce. Katherine,
thanks so much for your time. Why does it seem
like acls are a new thing? Who he was saying before?
Are they a new invention? The anterior cruciate ligament.
Speaker 8 (38:41):
Well, no, they've been around, They've been in our body forever.
Speaker 6 (38:44):
OK.
Speaker 8 (38:45):
Yeah, so they it's a non contact rotational injury the ACL.
So often you'll see the player go down and no
one else around them, or they've they've done a quick step,
or they've changed the direction and the ACL basically just
gives way on us. Now, the reason that this is
happening is these elite athletes are just bigger, faster, and
(39:06):
stronger and more powerful these days, and the demands of
the sport are just so much heavier on these athletes,
and the knees just not holding like.
Speaker 4 (39:16):
We used to, right, So is there a way to
strengthen it so that this doesn't happen?
Speaker 1 (39:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (39:22):
Absolutely. The best way to do it is think of
the athlete as a whole. So strengthening up the glutes,
strengthening the around the knee, and yeah, really looking at
the way we move as well, So not only really strengthening,
but looking at how we sort of really move and
(39:43):
jump hot in land is really important.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
I suppose that's what makes it so hard in contact
sports because often you don't get to decide in what
way you're moving. I feel like there's been so many
of them, but the time it takes to recover from
it is getting shorter, all right, And thinking that this
used to be a career and back in the sort
of eighties and nineties you just hear I was done
his knee. You can't play footy anymore. Has science come
(40:08):
awe way in that regard?
Speaker 8 (40:10):
Yeah, that's totally right. Now we can get people back
on the field between nine and twelve months. This allows
some time for the graft to be remodeled and also
for a proper rehab program to be undertaken. The other
thing with acls is that now we can recognize them
so much better. We've got MRI immediately, which will actually
(40:32):
help us to tap them, and they are reported heavily
in the media.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
Can I ask you, so I know one way you
put like a new fake ACL in, Could you donate
if you were someone who just sat behind a microphone
all day for a job, Could you donate an ACL
to someone who needed it more than you did?
Speaker 8 (40:50):
No, you couldn't that. You can use someone's hamstring tendon.
Speaker 1 (40:54):
You can have that. Tanner Boyd can have one, Roger
two of us as shit can have that. How many
hamstrings you got, I could probably just about to do
the whole team, couldn't I?
Speaker 8 (41:02):
Yeah, you've got three on each side.
Speaker 1 (41:03):
Oh sweet great, All right, well, I think we might
have found a solution to this. I'm going to donate
my hammies to the Warriors.
Speaker 4 (41:10):
Why do you think it's so prevalent in rugby league
at the moment.
Speaker 8 (41:14):
Oh, I think it's just that the power and the
change of direction is so quick, so fast. The game's
moving really quickly. There's generally no off season as well,
so these players aren't getting much of a risk.
Speaker 4 (41:27):
True.
Speaker 1 (41:28):
I've got a theory that I actually blew both my
acls at high school and that I've been getting around
for about fifteen sixteen years without acls.
Speaker 3 (41:36):
Is that possible at all?
Speaker 8 (41:38):
Could be you've got your handbrake on.
Speaker 1 (41:40):
Yeah, when you're running, I do run very very slowly,
and I struggle changing directions.
Speaker 8 (41:48):
It's definitely possible. There.
Speaker 1 (41:50):
Oh, I've been diagnosed ones if you like.
Speaker 4 (41:54):
Yeah, that sounds cheap, brilliant.
Speaker 3 (41:57):
Thank you very much for joining us this morning.
Speaker 1 (41:59):
Catherine Catherine Royce, the director and physiotherapist of the Urban
Physio in Auckland.
Speaker 6 (42:05):
Jerry and Minny the Hodarchy breakfast.
Speaker 1 (42:08):
Time for its academic call. Now we'll call you. We'll
ask you five questions. Rather, all you have to do
is get three correct to want one hundred dollar Bunnings voucher,
and get your school's name itched into the vaunted It's
academic roll of honor alongside these schools coming before.
Speaker 3 (42:31):
I haven't cost culture.
Speaker 1 (42:32):
Now you will have noticed that Harward of High School
not among the famous schools itched into that.
Speaker 4 (42:37):
Definitely noticed that.
Speaker 1 (42:38):
I think everybody's picked up on that. And so this
morning we issued a three. We want to get Hardward
to High School on there that has been Hurley's High School.
If you don't, if someone from Harward a high school
doesn't call through, Hurley's going to have a crack and
represent your school for you. But thankfully somebody has called
through from Harward to High School. Good Morning Radio Hadachy
who were speaking.
Speaker 4 (42:58):
To Scott Scott. What's you say? Your name? Scott?
Speaker 9 (43:03):
Joe?
Speaker 4 (43:03):
Scott gied, yes, you were a couple of years behind
me at school.
Speaker 10 (43:06):
I think, well, I think I was a couple of you.
Speaker 4 (43:08):
Are you older? Yeah? I'm older?
Speaker 10 (43:10):
You think my younger brother was a couple.
Speaker 4 (43:12):
Of boy and you okay, but Joanne is your sister
who is my year? Yeah, yeah, yep, that's right. Stop
thinking at me, winking at you gods the lovely lovely anyway,
it'll be thirty years since I've seen you.
Speaker 10 (43:28):
Scott, Yeah, yeah for sure.
Speaker 1 (43:30):
Yeah, what do you remember being.
Speaker 6 (43:34):
Being?
Speaker 4 (43:35):
You know he was?
Speaker 10 (43:36):
I think it was was he hit boy?
Speaker 4 (43:38):
I think he was. It's that's not going on about it.
But yes, you were in the first fifteen with you, Scott.
Speaker 10 (43:45):
No, I don't quite make the cup.
Speaker 4 (43:49):
I've I've advanced you there now.
Speaker 1 (43:51):
Living Scott, get any any and what sorry we're in
the first eleven.
Speaker 4 (43:56):
Yeah, now, Scott, I've just noticed on the list of
schools that are on this list Francis Douglas Memorial Colleges
on there, or funk Dung as we call them. They
were our massive rivals at Rugby. So we be on
the line here. There's a bit on the line here.
Speaker 10 (44:14):
Yeah, yeah, all right, how did you.
Speaker 1 (44:16):
Go to school? By the way, Scott, if you don't
mind me.
Speaker 10 (44:18):
Asking, Oh, sort of middle of the range, you know,
that's most things.
Speaker 1 (44:22):
But yeah, okay, if you are all right, should we
rip into this? You know how it works? We got
five questions get through?
Speaker 4 (44:30):
Right?
Speaker 1 (44:30):
You won one hundred dollars Bunnings about you?
Speaker 4 (44:32):
Yeah? I believe in you, Scott. Right, let's go two.
All Blacks scored seven tries in the nineteen ninety Rugby
World Cup. One was Joan oh Lomu.
Speaker 10 (44:41):
Who was the other Mark Ellis Carres.
Speaker 4 (44:44):
Which female artist holds the record for the most Grammy
award wins or no? Which creature is responsible for the
most human fatalities each year? Snake or no. Tom Baker
played what well known character? A sci fi character between
nineteen seventy four and nineteen eighty one, English sci fi
(45:07):
character and time traveling character doctor so close? What year
did you see my last host of Commonwealth Games in Auckland?
Oh my god, this is nineteen ninety, I.
Speaker 1 (45:22):
Think you said, geez, allegations of rigging? There some extra
clothes you can't see at home. Well, we can see
the questions as they are written to us some superfluous
detail editor there?
Speaker 4 (45:35):
What are you talking about? Dr Spock is so close?
Speaker 1 (45:38):
It's see. Tom Baker played what well known character between
seventy four and eighty one? You said sci fi.
Speaker 4 (45:42):
Character, English time traveling and a tartist.
Speaker 1 (45:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (45:49):
Yeah, doctor who.
Speaker 1 (45:51):
Yeah, I couldn't quite get it, Scott. I'll put you
out of your misery. Beyonce is the female artist for
with the most Grammys.
Speaker 4 (45:57):
Close to what did you say?
Speaker 1 (45:58):
Tell us Swift far off? Which creature is responsible for
the most human fatalities? You said, snake? It's mosquito humans
a second, and then New Zealand last held the Commonwealth
Games in nineteen ninety.
Speaker 4 (46:11):
Unlucky Scott, Oh, never mind, we'll get on there one day.
Speaker 1 (46:15):
Scott, unlucky early, unlucky Howard a high school. Congratulations to funk.
Speaker 6 (46:19):
Done, Jerry and Midnight the Hoaky Breakfast.
Speaker 2 (46:25):
Jurry's away this week, so joining minight on the hod
Ache Breakfast is the great New Zealander Benhurley.
Speaker 1 (46:32):
That's right, Ben, Early in with us for today. I
remember your smile. Massive hour radio coming up between now
at nine o'clock. You're alive. Plus Ritchievarni is going to
be joining us to unpack all of the warriors headlines
you just heard in the news there and up next though,
tomorrow is budget Day. What day is Father's Day? Sunday?
Speaker 4 (46:56):
What that's budget d?
Speaker 1 (46:58):
Oh? I don't know.
Speaker 3 (47:00):
Budget d is tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (47:01):
We're going to be fining out the budget. None of
us are going to read it. We're all just going
to complain about it. But we thought if we got
we got the chance, it's like a like an old
Greek democracy to all have our say what do we
think should be in the budget?
Speaker 4 (47:12):
Because this is apparently going to be a bit of
a black budget.
Speaker 1 (47:15):
What does that mean? They're cutting back, they're cutting back,
they're tightening the perstry.
Speaker 4 (47:18):
Yeah, yeah, big big old purse string tight. So you know,
let's let's chuck in some stuff just for us that
might you know, probably not cost that much, you know,
probably ten bucks a person in New Zealand.
Speaker 1 (47:29):
Well, what they what they're going to neglect tomorrow is
the real hard working key with the things that are
going to make a difference to you and yours, things
like tax relief on zinger burgers. Yeah, in the textra
on three four eight three, no tax on a pack
of darts the friday before payday.
Speaker 3 (47:42):
That's brilliant.
Speaker 1 (47:43):
That's pretty good, brilliant piece of policy there.
Speaker 3 (47:45):
So give us a text three four eight three, or
you can always give us a.
Speaker 1 (47:48):
Call on oh eight hundred Hadak. You would love to
hear the sound of your voice. What should be in
the budget when they announce it tomorrow?
Speaker 6 (47:54):
Jerry andman Night the Hootiky Breakfast.
Speaker 1 (47:57):
The budget, the government's budget will be anounced tomorrow. There's
going to be all sorts of stuff in there you
don't care about. So this morning on the Hadaki Breakfast
for Mania and Hurley, we wanted to know what do
you want to see in the budget for tomorrow that
is not going to be included?
Speaker 4 (48:13):
A text on Jeremy Wells. For every minute he spends
on punishing weather chat, oh my God, will pay off
the deficit, wouldn't it.
Speaker 1 (48:20):
Well, it should be paid directly into my account, because
I'm the one who gets and and by the way,
I would like everyone to know that for every minute
you hear him do that on into a microphone, there
are three more minutes that he does that off here.
It is no joke that he has multiple paid with
the apps on his phone, and he will sit there
and explain every single one of them.
Speaker 7 (48:40):
Do you it's actually interfering in the show as well.
Something you wouldn't know, Ben, is that Maniah and I
might be talking, Hey, what's coming up in the next break,
and he would just be sitting there on his phone
and then suddenly it'll be time to go. And what
are we talking about again? You're like, you're on your buddy,
where are at aginning?
Speaker 1 (48:53):
Yeah, there's a great idea. It's like a swear jar.
Speaker 3 (48:56):
But for whether it's good, it is a brilliant, brilliant
I reckon.
Speaker 4 (48:59):
He's probably looking at other ones on on incognito.
Speaker 1 (49:04):
There's a bit of that gun on I for me,
I reckon, forgive me if this is one is a
bit earnest. But in New Zealand we pride ourselves on
the fact that we've got free healthcare. So you know,
you fall off your lime skirter are tiny five bites
here at a pro surfing league, you get covered by.
Speaker 4 (49:21):
And both of those are a CC. Yeah, so we
even have we have accident care, yes, but we also
have medical care.
Speaker 1 (49:27):
So you get crook, you go down to the doctors,
that's all covered for you. What I can't understand is
why are teeth like an optional extra, Like I don't know,
they're like bonus bones, Like you get the default package
of a human body. You get everything, everything's covered except
for you've got these luxury bones in your mouth. That's sorry,
we're not going to cover those.
Speaker 4 (49:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (49:46):
The thought is that they're not necessary. Yeah, yeah, those are.
They are a luxury to have in your mouth, and
so they're not going to be covered. That would be
my one. Why why is that? It'll be like if
you're like, yeah, sorry, you know, it's free healthcare except
for feet. The podietrists is extra. You get to pay
for that yourself. It makes no sense to me.
Speaker 4 (50:06):
I don't know if this is a budget one, but
this is what I've always thought, is that all invoices
need to be paid within a month otherwise it's a
criminal offense. I like that. Yeah, and this goes through
all the trades. I know, we have a lot of
trades that listen and I don't you know, again, this
might be a bit earnest, but genuinely like, how often
are you trying to get money out of people you
(50:27):
know up to a year later.
Speaker 1 (50:28):
Because you've already spent that money too, of course, and
you're like, oh, well, love, this is going to go
to this and this, and I can pay you for
this thing here and then the other person doesn't pay
you for another month. Yeah, not one hundred percent agree
with that text through on three four h three. No
tax on chicken burgers at that are at any hotel.
Cost of covering increased chlamitia outbreaks from more people traveling
(50:48):
to the trunk could be problematic. Yes, we need funding
for a Ministry of Sporting Defense, a crack team specially
designed to remove g Lane from cursing national sporting games.
Speaker 4 (50:59):
Yeah, I'm to that.
Speaker 1 (51:00):
I would I put my hand up to execute that,
sort of like a CIA. Yeah, that's right. It's just
dedicated at one specific person. If they managed to catch
bin Lard and surely they can prevent g Lane because
because I want to put something on everyone's radar right now,
he's going to the NRL Grand Final this year. Now,
if the Warriors keep going the way they're going, there's
(51:20):
a chance that they might be there. Now at that point,
it's a matter of national security that we don't let
that man get into the final. So yeah, I'm going
to do there.
Speaker 4 (51:32):
To have it. There's a counterpoint here to your teeth.
Teeth can be self managed. Term is sentend now, yes,
but brushing them yeah, but all health can be self managed.
Speaker 3 (51:44):
I can crush my hair too.
Speaker 4 (51:45):
That doesn't so you could eat you know, you could
eat the worst diet of all time, and obviously there's
a lot of health effects that will come from that. Yeah,
and you will be looked after for free.
Speaker 1 (51:55):
Yeah exactly.
Speaker 4 (51:56):
But if you just ate sugar every day, you know,
and nothing but a and your teeth rounded, you'd have
to look after that.
Speaker 1 (52:02):
Yeah. Bog sticks through bog Here discount beers and six yeh,
bog cheers bog budget ideas. Whatever sick days you don't use,
you get paid out for at the end of the year.
Speaker 4 (52:12):
How's that not a policy?
Speaker 1 (52:16):
And no tax on a pack of darts the friday
before payday? We have to bring your pay slippin to
prove that it was that friday.
Speaker 4 (52:25):
Good point.
Speaker 6 (52:26):
Jerry and Mini the Hodarchy.
Speaker 1 (52:28):
Breakfast debating the budget will be announced tomorrow. We're debating
the budget this morning of the Haidaky breakfast. What will
be in there is of no interest to us. We
want to know what should be in there on three four,
three or eight hundred kidarking.
Speaker 4 (52:43):
The budget yours please, Mini, yours more mind please.
Speaker 1 (52:47):
I will also on top of dentistreaming and included in
my free healthcare. I would also like friday esport. I
think the the government should because we've seen it with
like when they put the cricket back on TV and
Z for a bit there, it was huge, It was huge,
and then all of it and then you see people
(53:07):
start going back to the grounds. And I have so
many memories as a kid, you know, sitting on the
floor of the lounge on a Sunday watching the Warriors, yeah,
and watching Super Rugby, falling asleep to the sultry sounds
of Gruntner's.
Speaker 4 (53:20):
But watching a Sunday grandstand with Jeff Bryan.
Speaker 1 (53:24):
Yeah, yeah, I feel oh yeah, I mean I don't
remember that one, but I do. I feel like it.
Speaker 3 (53:30):
It could only be good for the country.
Speaker 1 (53:32):
And I know that there's going to be some sort
of bloody red tape that means they can't do it.
But I'm just saying that should be in the budget.
Who set it aside? Free to a sport for all sports.
Speaker 4 (53:40):
I mean, I don't know if there's a budget is ue,
but can you just camp some things? Do you know
what I mean? They cap the price of certain things
that we hold deer as a country and as a culture,
like sport, like sport. Yeah, so that should be kept
or free, right, But you know, like a sausage outside
a Bunnings for example. We should never be more than
two dollars.
Speaker 1 (54:01):
No. Now, if it's going to be a donation, sure,
don't out as much as you want, but it's up
to you. Yeah, but you're not allowed to charge me
more than two dollars. Yeah, I think some things need
to be capped at. Yeah.
Speaker 7 (54:12):
That going down the sports avenue because obviously Auckland have
seeded very well in the A League. Recently the Warriors
are getting so many people jumping on the bandwagon now
becoming more and more successful. I keep looking for tickets
for upcoming Warriors games and they have sold out consistently.
Can we make either go Media a bit bigger or
new Warriors Wise Park?
Speaker 4 (54:34):
Yeah, I just started. Yeah, they can't go to Eden
Park because of the curse. Yeah, of course, it's the
curse of the Warriors can't win an eating park for
some reason. But although I believe they're playing a game
there next year next.
Speaker 1 (54:46):
Year, and there's also going to be start of origin
there as well. If you've never been on the doll
every five years, again, five kout, it's not bad. That's
someone's just Tixon Wars.
Speaker 3 (54:58):
Okay, good stuff.
Speaker 4 (55:00):
Not even a public ownership by the Warriors.
Speaker 1 (55:02):
I don't mind that either, because I remember last time
that got sold I was I was singing about like
what if we all chipped in and everyone bought like
a you know, like a dollar steak in it, Because
there's enough fans Warriors fans that we could do it.
The problem is like when it comes to making a
decision that you've got to ask all three hundred and
fifty million bloody you know, stakeholders what's going on. But
(55:22):
I found the way around that too, So we all
buy a five dollars steak in the Warriors. Stacey Jones
is in charge. Whatever he decides, that's what we're doing.
I think everyone's on board with that. Someone else's tax
wise again, not having to pay.
Speaker 4 (55:37):
For water, Yeah, that is a weird one, isn't that.
Speaker 1 (55:39):
Don't we have more water than just about any I
get it in Australia. Yeah, but then why do we
have to pay it? Keep the text code through three
four eight three or oh eight hundred, hodark, what do
you want to see in the budget tomorrow?
Speaker 4 (55:52):
Should we have a pipeline of our water to Australia
and sell it to them? That's that's a slam dunk
for me.
Speaker 6 (56:00):
Jerry and Mini the hold key breakfast, It's.
Speaker 1 (56:03):
Time to play. Dinner Alive is a game where we
name five well known people or you have to do
is tell us whether they did or alive. It was
devised by veteran TV and Z camera operator Dave Pierce
in the way to interview lou Vincent. There is one
hundred dollars voucher up for grabs for the one and
(56:24):
nothing for Dave. He came up. It's nothing. He gets
a shout out.
Speaker 4 (56:30):
Every week next week. Yeah, actually that's I know him.
That's all he needs.
Speaker 1 (56:34):
There's plenty for that. He's a bottomless, well old Dave.
He's a few different ideas.
Speaker 4 (56:38):
That's the only one that's stuck.
Speaker 1 (56:39):
This is the only one that's stuck. Yeah, he still
won't get a cent for all Right, we go to
the lines. Will we find Rob from Gorg? Good morning Rob?
How's god? This morning is fantastic? Yea beautiful? Any any frost?
Speaker 4 (56:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (56:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (56:59):
It's cold and ship Yeah?
Speaker 4 (57:02):
Have you correct the correct the zero yet? You reckon today?
Speaker 1 (57:06):
But I just drove my daughter off at school and
seeing like an Asahi dry was uncracked on the side
of the road and thought about it.
Speaker 4 (57:13):
Actually I was actually referring to the temperature. But I
like how you've answered that immediately, like have you corrected
zero be here today? That's why it's a way better answer.
Speaker 1 (57:23):
Rob your your buzzer is going to be your name?
You want to try it out? Yep, that'll work all right.
We go to line three. We find Jordy the builder
from Auckland. Good morning, Jody. You wouldn't have seen a
frostyet this this year.
Speaker 10 (57:38):
No, we're gonna live bit.
Speaker 1 (57:39):
Of fog over this morning.
Speaker 10 (57:40):
But no as.
Speaker 1 (57:41):
Well, Beauty, any zero per centers on board this morning?
Not yet.
Speaker 4 (57:46):
So you're Jordy, You're from Auckland, You're a builder. I'm
packing West Auckland. You.
Speaker 1 (57:53):
Yeah, Jordy, your buzzer is going to be your name.
You going to try it out?
Speaker 4 (57:58):
Name Jordy. Yeah. We should go.
Speaker 1 (58:01):
One more time, just so we've got it cleanly. Your name, yeah, Jordy.
A right, Robbie, Jordy. Consume you both understand how this works.
Speaker 3 (58:10):
Hurley's going to read the questions.
Speaker 1 (58:11):
I will count the answers.
Speaker 4 (58:12):
Here we go. Act the best known for appearing in
movies like airplane and the naked gun is rob got
in there early before we said the name. Yes, Leslie
Nelson is dead one to you.
Speaker 1 (58:26):
That is quite aggressive start from Rob out of the Blox.
Speaker 4 (58:29):
Yeah, nice work when being premature is a good thing. Yeah.
Singer and actress known for playing Sandy and Greece is
Olivia Newton john dead or alive, Jordy go mate dead
at seventy three.
Speaker 3 (58:47):
He's a competitive game, straight out.
Speaker 1 (58:48):
Of the blocks. Boys, I'm liking this one.
Speaker 4 (58:50):
All Spinner's entire NBA career with the Los Angeles Laker
birth name Irvin is Magic Johnson or Jordy got in
there live, Jordie, You're right, he is alive against all
odds at sixty six years of age.
Speaker 1 (59:06):
So Jordy on two. Rob On one.
Speaker 4 (59:11):
Famous for his solo work and for fronting his band
The Heartbreakers is Tom Petty rob nice word you had
you had to do it. He is dead yep, died
in twenty seventeen, aged sixty six, which is what Manja
Johnston's now how about that?
Speaker 1 (59:29):
And here we go we find ourselves that sudden dead,
sudden death, well, sudden dead or alive? Rob On two.
Jordie on two for All the Chuckies, for.
Speaker 4 (59:37):
All the Chucky's. Played Denise Huxtable on The Cosby Show
and married Lenny Kravitz. Is Lisa Boney Jordan. What was
that dead?
Speaker 9 (59:47):
Rob?
Speaker 4 (59:47):
Rob?
Speaker 1 (59:49):
I'm going to run with alive.
Speaker 4 (59:50):
She is a live Elisa is fifty eight years of
age and the mother of Zoe Kravitz and possibly the
best looking family of all time.
Speaker 1 (01:00:00):
Fruitable Congratulations, Rob, your stole victory from the jaws of defeat. There, beautiful.
Speaker 6 (01:00:07):
Jerry in the night the Hoary Breakfast.
Speaker 1 (01:00:10):
There's a lot going on in the world of rugby
league at the moment. The Warriors of players coming and
going from a cl injuries and of course state of Origin.
Game one is on tonight. You watch it all on
Sky Sport one and Sky Sport Now. Coverage starts at
nine pm. Kickoff scheduled for ten, but we all know
it'll be later than that. Joining us now to talk
all things rugby Leugue. Former KEYI captain Richie Barnett joins
(01:00:32):
us on the Lone Morning, Richie.
Speaker 10 (01:00:34):
Let's morning, ld Morning, all the way from a Fostercreek cafe.
Speaker 1 (01:00:41):
Buddy, you guys running cheese gons there yep, A big
fan of the Chiefs. Gone, I have to come and
check it out. Ritchie Ltts later cards out flatter you
Queensland or New South Wales.
Speaker 4 (01:00:56):
Feeling. Actually I had a feeling you would be because
you wore blue as a shark a little bit.
Speaker 10 (01:01:03):
And I played with like heating, heading house and breadfa
back in the day, so it was entrenched in the
culture of New South Wales. Eight years I spent there.
Speaker 1 (01:01:14):
So yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:01:15):
So Richally, you know, you're one of one of New
Zealand's most highly thought of rugby league players. But to
be a real rugby league player you have to have
blurt out your a CL these days. So did you
ever do yours?
Speaker 1 (01:01:29):
No?
Speaker 10 (01:01:29):
Actually I blue my head out, so I'd take that.
Speaker 1 (01:01:34):
No, I never did.
Speaker 10 (01:01:35):
I had ligament media ligament tears, but I've never had
an a CL which is quite staggrant.
Speaker 4 (01:01:41):
Really.
Speaker 3 (01:01:41):
Yeah, it's quite interesting. What do you put it down
to this?
Speaker 1 (01:01:43):
Because there was an injury you hadn't heard of back
in the day and now all of a sudden everyone's doing.
Speaker 10 (01:01:47):
It meniscus in whatever it is they call it now,
you're right, but I think it's just that the players,
you know, and tackles. There's you know, they're bigger bodies too,
so strain on players now probably more so. The game's
quickened up, but you've got bodies two three defenders on you.
So at some point and I guess the ground conditions changes,
(01:02:11):
you're stepping a lot these players. That's so agile and
so you know they're stepping at last minute. So there's
a lot of gift. There's got to be a little
bit of give there.
Speaker 4 (01:02:19):
Or is it right? Is the game.
Speaker 10 (01:02:24):
Just don't make ligamage like they do in our day,
Our cartilages were a lot stronger.
Speaker 1 (01:02:32):
So Rogers the most recent one to go down. How
big a loss is he going to be for this
Warrior's team?
Speaker 10 (01:02:38):
Righty, he's just forming such a good partnership on the
left and edge, you know, like he just he found
a spot that really worked for the club. You know,
they really needed the sturdy, defensive and attacking left left
center and they found it. Unfortunately, and it's a real shame.
I'm guarded for him to end season as it is,
(01:03:00):
but I'm also god for the team because that's that's
quite a quality player ending his career in the way
that it is.
Speaker 4 (01:03:06):
Just the manner, just the manner he brings to the park.
You know, it's unquite.
Speaker 1 (01:03:12):
Refiable, Yeah, it is, but it seems like we've got
some pretty capable replacements. And the difference this year, it
seems rich, is that the squad's deep and good. Are
we built to absorb this kind of loss?
Speaker 10 (01:03:24):
Yeah, well they have, they've seen the next man mentality
coming in and doing it. But I always, I always
think that there is a quality, as you mentioned rightly,
being on off the field stuff, you know, tending trainings,
lived in the standard and the profile, and that really
goes a long way. People don't see that sort of
twenty four hour player type mentality, but that is exactly
(01:03:46):
a Roger you know. And Adam Pompey will come in
and you know what he can he can provide, he's
got that ex factor. But Roger's just got that ability
to turn games around and we've seen it this year.
He's has been incredible, you know.
Speaker 1 (01:03:59):
Yeah, So, how do you think at the top of
the table class this weekend? I think it's on Sunday
night against the Panthers. Yeah, one and two. How do
you see that one? Going?
Speaker 10 (01:04:08):
Wow? This is this is this is mouth watering to
be honest. You know the Origin players, yes, you know,
the pain of Painters got them baking theory and they're
like they're coming into the side at some point. But
the Warriors are not going to have Cable and Mitch Barnett,
which means they're thinking longer term. Injuries have happened before
when you come off an Origin series. But I don't know.
(01:04:29):
I'm just thinking, I this is such a hard game
to steparate. There's not a lot in it. But I'm
going to go the Warriors because they've just seemed to
be a side that's progressing and really utilizing their supporter base,
plus the belief that they've got to win games. And
every conversation I've had, you've seen they say the same thing.
(01:04:50):
So I'm going to go with a huge belief in
the Warriors to just get themselves over their convextating.
Speaker 4 (01:04:55):
So Richie a state of Origin tonight, And everyone I
I've spoken to has Queensland as favorites, except for the
people who actually matter. They are the underdogs once again,
paying two dollars twenty five to New South Wales a
dollar sixty five. Why do these odds always seem to
(01:05:16):
go in favor of the Blues, despite you know history.
Speaker 10 (01:05:21):
It's going to be an investigation of this. This is
tab turning the tides and making this look like it's
actually a Maroon's possibility. No, definitely not by what I
see from the Blues side. I think they've selected aside
that is actually going to be aggressive inside outside, So
they're going to really ply the pressure on the inside.
(01:05:42):
Were seen with camera money Victor Radley, I've chosing them
for a reason to get out there and absolutely go
gangbusters and leave everything on the table. I've I listened
to his chat just before with I can't remember who was,
but he was just ampty. He's going to go out
there and thrash's body. If it's not already thrashed already,
he's got to cane it and it's going to be
(01:06:03):
so interesting. It's it's going to be the fastest I
think origin game that we've seen in a long, long while.
Speaker 4 (01:06:09):
So he'll be he'll be bend after three minutes. Is
that what you're saying? Basically?
Speaker 10 (01:06:14):
Actually, he will. I reckon you get knocked out in
the first tackle again, I'll I'll go six again.
Speaker 1 (01:06:19):
You're fine, brilliant, Enjoy origin Tonight, Rochie Barbie, thank you
very much for you to do this morning, heat up
one of those cheest guns for me.
Speaker 6 (01:06:30):
Jerry and Midnight the Darkey Breakfast.
Speaker 1 (01:06:33):
Yesday we were talking about rhuds First fifteen of Love.
These are the fifteen people he has told that he loves.
Speaker 4 (01:06:42):
Can I say all women? Okay, that's quite six Actually sure, yeah, yeah,
Well it's not my fault.
Speaker 3 (01:06:49):
It's just the way I was born.
Speaker 1 (01:06:50):
Geez. Real diversity issue in ruders first fifteens, some pretty
clear selection criteria.
Speaker 4 (01:06:56):
He's just realized they're all white, haven't you.
Speaker 3 (01:06:59):
No, no, no, he made sure of it.
Speaker 1 (01:07:04):
My other favorite wrinkle is that number fourteen is he
will remember from the start of this there are fifteen
of them. Anyway, we're talking about the first fifteen of
Love and whether Graham Henry may have had a hand
in selection for that, because he is the new select
That reminded me of one of the greatest stories.
Speaker 3 (01:07:21):
You told me You've you've met, You've done a speaking Yeah,
it was.
Speaker 4 (01:07:26):
It was. It was a launch of a beer I
won't say what, expert ultra. Yeah, And it was in
Queenstown and they invited the top fifty pub owners that
sold that particular beer. Yeah, two plus one, so one
(01:07:47):
hundred people plus all the people who worked for that
particular and brewery. Correct and to queens Topla Gondola. I
did some stand up, I did MC interview, like a
couple of the brewers or whatever. And then Graham Henry
came on and did his ted talk as I like
to call it, and that's to get and yeah, and
(01:08:11):
it was it was, you know what I had expectations,
but it was better than I thought.
Speaker 1 (01:08:17):
He touched on cheese at all.
Speaker 4 (01:08:19):
Yes, his favorite cheese is better.
Speaker 1 (01:08:22):
Any gigantic native insects.
Speaker 4 (01:08:26):
Quite likes the giant wetter. And he did a little speech.
It was very funny. Actually, he's a very entertaining speaker.
Speaker 1 (01:08:34):
I've seen him the little Tandem show with Beaver, where
I could see that you owe me a will cut,
will you owe me a knighthood?
Speaker 4 (01:08:41):
Blah blah blah, all that stuff. So yeah, so we
did all that, and then of course, you know, it
was it was a beer launch, so there was plenty
of products and he had quite a lot, and so
did he. But he's a man of you know, advancing years.
And after a while it looked like he probably should
probably go to bid and so we organized that and
(01:09:04):
there was they all called a cab and it was
down the bottom of the gondola for room, and so
we sort of, you know, it was in very good spirits,
chucked him in the gondola and and you know, the
cab was waiting for him down the down the bottom,
and then we kind of went back to the party
for you know, a couple of hours. And then when
I was I was like in a similar state. So
I'm not judging because I was in a similar state
(01:09:25):
to hindride yourself, yeah, exactly, And I thought I'd better
go home myself. So I went over to the gondola.
See mogabies, and went over to the gondolas. And you
know you're going to kind of time it with the gondola,
you know, because it kind of slow comes up fast,
doesn't it, and then it slows down and you've got
to hop, and you gotta hop and straight away. So
I was because I'd had it a bit, so I
(01:09:47):
was watching my feet quite quite closely to check that
I stepped in at the right time.
Speaker 1 (01:09:52):
You don't want to fall out of a gondolin, no, So.
Speaker 4 (01:09:54):
I was looking at my feet and the doors open
and I'm about to make my step. And I looked
up and inside the goldle was a certain night of
the Two hours later, he'd been who was fast asleep?
Speaker 1 (01:10:08):
Okay, alright, just doing lapse.
Speaker 3 (01:10:13):
Laps for two hours? Could you imagine waking up in
the middle of that.
Speaker 4 (01:10:20):
I actually jumped in and I thought I'd mess with
his dream, so just whispered in his ear. France wins,
France wins, France wins. Stephen Donald has missed.
Speaker 6 (01:10:31):
France winds, Jerry and Minight the Hodarchy breakfast.
Speaker 4 (01:10:37):
That's enough, Mandy camby Metro News. It's time for the
real stuff. Ben Hurley's Rural round Up News. You can
get it by Passionate remarks have been public made publicly
both ways following the planned restoration of Cambridge's water tower.
It came after the Waipa District Council last week announced
(01:10:59):
that the hunt and twenty four year old heritage building
would be restored and made earthquake resistant for two and
a half million dollars. Council staff have been asked to
find the extra funding externally to offset the costs.
Speaker 1 (01:11:12):
Who's got two and a half million dollars in this economy.
It infects a bloody WaterTower.
Speaker 4 (01:11:16):
What is it with watertowers in New Zealand? We love
a water now, we love a WaterTower. I think the
Bulls water Tower. Do you know what I'm talking about.
It's one of the ugliest buildings in New Zealand, but
it's a heritage building. Yeah, it looks like a mushroom cloud.
I know, I know the type that you're talking about.
Burn and military base head. One needs to repel off
it there Horror's watertown, not a horror chat today. But
(01:11:36):
that's as they should. That lights up at night and
its actually serves as a lighthouse.
Speaker 1 (01:11:44):
That's why I haven't heard of a shipwreck. And Harward
have all correct. It is three kilometers inland, but it
still works.
Speaker 3 (01:11:50):
Hard to craise a ship three kas inland. And the
boy said that.
Speaker 4 (01:11:53):
Actor William Kircher, who played an angry looking dwarf in
Peter Jackson's adaptation of The Hobbit, is looking a little
less ferocious these days. We're not touring overseas. He's busy
creating his own patch of Middle Earth on the outskirts
of Featherston. It's been more than two years since he
and his wife, Nicole, when on a Sunday drive on
(01:12:13):
an impulse and bought a land what's it called a
lifestyle block.
Speaker 1 (01:12:18):
Death style block? Yeah, one that saming it like Lord
of the Ranks.
Speaker 4 (01:12:22):
They should do I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:12:24):
Do you know they do weddings at.
Speaker 1 (01:12:27):
Hobliton? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:12:28):
Did you know that?
Speaker 4 (01:12:29):
I mean, who's doing that? Not me?
Speaker 9 (01:12:32):
Man?
Speaker 4 (01:12:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:12:34):
Not ma Man. I'll tell you that another hobbiton. Yeah,
it's unless you guys thought it was cool. Now I'll
probably do it. If you guys don't think it's cool,
I won't do it.
Speaker 4 (01:12:42):
You have to walk around on your knees.
Speaker 1 (01:12:44):
You get to walk around on your Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:12:47):
Busy farmers Hamish and Becks Cavnar didn't really need another project.
The couple already had enough on their plates with their
farm trucking business and two quarries and a hunter of
all lung a tick. But the allure of restoring the
local hotel, the Argyle, which is an amazing hotel. It's
art deco. I'm going to google it proved too strong
(01:13:07):
for the couple, who featured on Country Calendar this week.
Hamish first begin kind of blaming by the archive. It's
still an honor, ruder, Why are you laughing? It's an
honor to be on country Calendar. I'd to New Zealand's
most viewed program.
Speaker 7 (01:13:22):
It's because also in your script it says you're a
country calendar on TV and Z plus and TV and
Z one.
Speaker 4 (01:13:27):
That's why I'm laughing. Oh, because I cut those birds out. Well,
they can pay us if they want both. Hamish began
kind of blaming buying the Argyle about three years ago.
He says, the doors to the Art Deco pub, which
makes dates back to nineteen forty nine, have been closed
for about eighteen months. It's right on State Highway one there.
Speaker 1 (01:13:43):
Beautiful looking hotel.
Speaker 4 (01:13:45):
Just looked it up.
Speaker 1 (01:13:45):
It looks like a bloody money pit, though it would be.
I'd be cautious of us. Amish, Yeah, tell you what,
do you want to open that thing up again forwards
while they shut it?
Speaker 4 (01:13:53):
So there you go. That's my rural news for another day.
Speaker 6 (01:13:58):
Jerry and Minia hold, I keep breakfast.
Speaker 9 (01:14:01):
I don't care about anything at all. It's funny. I'll
make a difference. I don't care about anything.
Speaker 1 (01:14:20):
Highly suspects on briefast. She's pick it up.
Speaker 3 (01:14:24):
Did you even come right after?
Speaker 1 (01:14:25):
That go for a walk or something. Yeah, choose out.
The human brain was designed to solve problems at four
gays an hour. I've always thought it, good morning, you've
just walked into the studio.
Speaker 3 (01:14:34):
How's it going.
Speaker 11 (01:14:34):
That's good, it's going.
Speaker 9 (01:14:35):
Well.
Speaker 1 (01:14:35):
Do you care about anything at all?
Speaker 9 (01:14:36):
Yeah? Do you want to know what I about?
Speaker 4 (01:14:41):
Racing cars?
Speaker 9 (01:14:42):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (01:14:42):
Yeah, yeah, a little bogans my cars, wind sport, yeah,
anything with snow skateboards, extreme sports.
Speaker 1 (01:14:54):
Now it surfing. And I know you went down to Raglan.
Speaker 7 (01:14:56):
I didn't.
Speaker 11 (01:14:57):
I didn't make it, but I want I know you
didn't get.
Speaker 1 (01:14:59):
Managed to get down to Regl. But did you see
that the photographer who got who got tiny far We
actually asked him to come on the show, and I
think you thought we were going to take the purse
out of him, so he didn't come on here. And
now evidently he's been proven right because we're going to.
Speaker 4 (01:15:17):
Be quote liked about an injury that he has to
learn to walk again.
Speaker 11 (01:15:21):
Didn't realize the extent of it to lay the surfing
because of it, and everyone was like, oh, it's just
a sea line. But I saw the pictures of like
that's serious teeth. Yeah, got nine surgeries or something. I
don't know. Yeah, got nine. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.
Speaker 1 (01:15:38):
Three lords are leaping? How How did the tournament go?
Speaker 11 (01:15:42):
Though I didn't see who was it was epic, So
I can't remember the name of the surfer that one
probably you did, like hell, a couple of three sexes
he won that There was a check who has recently
become a mum. Okay, and I think she's from Hawaii, California,
but she ripped.
Speaker 1 (01:16:02):
Yeah, but and birth oh sorry, Billy Stammond, he went
all right, I think, yeah, no, do you only care
about the overseas surfers?
Speaker 11 (01:16:15):
You guys didn't make it pass into the into the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (01:16:19):
We had him on the seven Days last week, and
he's quite diminutive.
Speaker 1 (01:16:23):
Small fellows a small fellow.
Speaker 4 (01:16:25):
He looks like an action figure, like he's very handsome.
Speaker 1 (01:16:27):
Yes, and he looks like a surfer.
Speaker 4 (01:16:29):
Yeah he looks. Yeah he does.
Speaker 1 (01:16:31):
If you guys did that thing where on seven days
we line the people up and you've got to pick who.
Speaker 4 (01:16:36):
Does what he had a bag on it was guess who?
Speaker 1 (01:16:38):
But yeah, I know, But like if you him there
and which one is a surfer, you'll be like, well
this is ga played.
Speaker 4 (01:16:44):
Yeah, a surfer is generally small, not pro surfers.
Speaker 1 (01:16:49):
I think it's just any of those kind of gymnastic sports,
you know. I'm a big propeller of the big ear. Yeah,
when you no, that's snowboarding. When I like, I like
to keep it more inside the barrel. I like to
get petted. I like to get soul surfer, the soul surfer.
(01:17:12):
I just really like to express myself and climb it
more of a sort of a smooth what's what's the break?
Speaker 4 (01:17:17):
Like in way.
Speaker 3 (01:17:20):
Vicious?
Speaker 11 (01:17:21):
Like the Eshburton Coast stones stones and if you swimming
it you'll probably die from the under undertoe or the ty.
Speaker 1 (01:17:28):
Stones undertoes twenty the big three of a South Island beach.
But what is said if not just small stones and
always taking that approach into it. So, yeah, what's coming
up on the show today?
Speaker 11 (01:17:37):
It was nil Fin's birthday today. Neil for sixty eight
from the top of my memory, so rocking pretty hard.
I saw him at Spark Arena a couple of weeks ago.
Speaker 4 (01:17:48):
Oh yeah, young than I thought, Yeah, in seventeen.
Speaker 1 (01:17:51):
I guess his brother is Can I just give a
big shout out to Deli who runs the social media
here at Radio Hot. He has learned when you're posting,
because we post fighters in black and white. When we
post a fight over a certain age, it looks like
we've killed them. And so he started putting happy birthday
right at the top of the rather than in the capture,
not like an obituary.
Speaker 11 (01:18:12):
Yeah, very good, that's good skills.
Speaker 3 (01:18:14):
That is well, will you.
Speaker 4 (01:18:17):
Play Sorry to interrupt, but will you play Tim and
the Elphin's cricket song.
Speaker 11 (01:18:23):
Maybe Well, it's up to listeners to texts in their face.
Speaker 4 (01:18:27):
It's called Runs in the Family. It was. It was
released in nineteen ninety five for New Zealand Cricket centenary
and there's a rugger bit in the middle. I don't
think it's either of them. I think they get somebody
in where they just list New Zealand cricket players. I
love Yeah on the runs cor near right, but Danan
Jornes is a is a bit that sticks in my head.
Speaker 1 (01:18:49):
Runs in the Family, Runs in the Family on the
list All right? Big Sandy's up next, and a big
thank you to Ben Hurley for holding the fort with us.
It's been a real treat to have a chat to you,
and I'm stoked that we managed to get the Graham
Henry yarn out this morning as well. If you missed
that gun, listen to the podcast.
Speaker 4 (01:19:06):
But yes, thank you, please and thoughts and prayers for
the next two days with ge Lane.
Speaker 3 (01:19:11):
I wasn't going to tell people episodes on ge Lane's

Speaker 6 (01:19:15):
Hod Aching Breakfast. Find great tools at the Bunnings Tool Takeover.
