has a nice jo.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
It might have to do the rounds this morning, fellows.
It was very, very cold in the north of the Islana.
Can only imagine what's going on down south. You would
have to assume whore frost.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Yes, when you got North Island cold, you must set
there must be South Island cold.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
It's proper cold, yeah, proper actual cold. Not just like
when I got in the car this morning. It was
the frost that you can't tell if it's frost and
not until you turn the windscreen wipers on the other
Oh wow, Yeah, frozen. Auckland frosty, Auckland. Auckland frost pathetic
if it's broken cool Auckland frost.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Auckland frost lasts throughout till about seven thirty.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Yeah, by that sage it's eighteen degrees again, and that's
running for the hells and everyone's complaining about it.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
Have your brother yeah, beauty, yeah yeah text three four
eight three how cold? I'd love to know.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
Lots coming up on the show this morning.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
And we say that every day, but I'm looking for
the rundown. Now it's actually true today there is lots
coming up.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
We will be giving away that beer garden to come
with us to Sydney in October to some lucky listener.
Make sure you're.
Speaker 5 (01:16):
Listening, Jerry and Mini. The hold ikey breakfasts.
Speaker 6 (01:24):
Coming up there?
Speaker 1 (01:24):
Should we do the rounds? Always good to do the
rounds on a.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
Yes, we had just agreed we're going to do the
bin Stokes things, Jerry, but sorry, that is about too
far off. He's poised.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
I thought we discussed that, and then I thought we
went back to we were going to do bin Stokes,
and then we went back to the to the rounds anyway?
Speaker 7 (01:45):
Should we do bin Stokes? To be fair, Jerry, we
laid that on you when you were looking at a
weather website, so that was very un.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
I was distract apologies.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
Yeah, this is great, let's let's have let's let's the
rounds in.
Speaker 6 (02:00):
I'll tell you why.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
I'll tell you why. It's quite good to have a
quick look at the rounds. And that's because I'm looking
here at the map, because there's a there's a met
service map, and it's got all of the main centers
and then it's got the current temperatures. And I'm looking
here and there is not one single double figure.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
Very rare winter proper, very rare that that happens. Yeah,
winter proper, we are settled into. It gives a text
three four O three where are you?
Speaker 6 (02:25):
What is it? More than?
Speaker 3 (02:26):
And boys making the slow trudge home after the night
shift out of the airport. The wind chill was a
shocking bast that had me vape to keep me warm, though,
so overall not a lost chairs.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
Okay, I rode my bike in this morning, and I
can tell you that the windchill as I was going
down the hill at forty eight k's an hour and
a little bit too light Marino top done like that
was very very cold.
Speaker 4 (02:47):
Coldest job you've ever had.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Fellas riddled me that because for me we used to
milk at about midnight. It was like a forteen hour
or sixteen hours something like that milking farm.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
And that was bloody cold. That was bloody cold.
Speaker 7 (03:05):
Whereabouts in the country.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
Was that that was in Wydi, South Canterary. Cop Night milkin, Yeah,
midnight milking, midnight milking. There are a couple of different
things you could do.
Speaker 7 (03:14):
There was one cow when I had the Midnight Milker.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
The Midnight Milker.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
It sounds like a It does sound like something that
you shouldn't be talking about on the radio.
Speaker 7 (03:21):
Like a like an album milking.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
The Big Show with Anglebert humped it if you found
out that he had a song called the Midnight Melger.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Milking past midnight. You don't want to be milking past midnight.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
I don't want to be milking past midnight.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
Like just leave at least stop milking from at least
twelve till I don't.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Know, you don't want to be milking at midnight. But
there are a couple of those to war myself up there.
One was we had a hot water tap, and so
sometimes you would just fill a like a drum with
hot water at the start of the shift. And then
whenever your hands got cold, you know, you can't move
your hands caught well, you'd have rubber gloves into like sleeves.
Often you just did that whole thing in there. Oh, yeah,
(04:01):
with the rubber gloves.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
Yeah, with the rubber gloves and everything in there.
Speaker 6 (04:03):
Even with the.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Rubber gloves on, your hands were still too cold.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
Yeah, oh yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
And then the other one well, because everything's wet, so
your hands are constantly wet. And then the other one
is shut up to the dairy farmers, they'll be aware
of this trick.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
Hands either side of the udder.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
I think you're going to say something else with what
you're doing there, and the signal that you're doing there
looks like an artificial insemination.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
Hands either side of the udder.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
And if your feet get cold and one of them
takes a massive dump and then you stand in that
and that warms your feet up as well?
Speaker 6 (04:30):
That real? Though?
Speaker 4 (04:31):
Is that real?
Speaker 6 (04:32):
Though?
Speaker 1 (04:32):
You're milking past midnight, you're got to do what you
go to do?
Speaker 7 (04:35):
Was in the snow barefoot and then I'm bloody. Ha
just stand cowpets?
Speaker 6 (04:38):
Is that real?
Speaker 1 (04:39):
I jumped from cow pat to cow pat.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
That's real. Cow tipping I don't think is real, but
that is real.
Speaker 6 (04:43):
Now.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
Some Mendeli used to do that standing standing in cow
pet Yeah, right on his way to school and bare feet?
Speaker 4 (04:51):
What is it here? This waring five? Oh five point six,
five point shooting up.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
That's what it's got here Auckland five, it' says here
on the National Forecast map, Kai Tai are currently the
warmest place in New Zealand's at nine yep, fun and
a six. And then as you make your way down
Rotro you got zero, and you got your zero, and
the Tron two you've got seven, and New Plymouth you've
got zero, and Topol three and Napes we've got four.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
In Wellington, can I say top deceptively cold? I always
thought of that as quite a warm part of the country.
It's not as it that one comes whipping up off
the Lake Toyah.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
In the morning blend and minus two. There we go, okay,
now it's starting to get As we hid down the
east coast, you got your christ Church minus two. Wow,
and you got your team at minus two. But three
it's it's always a bit more mild there. I noticed
(05:48):
that you don't often get them into the minuses in
the morning.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
It must have done.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
It's do it the way. Maybe at the peninsula sticks
out there's.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
A microclimbate done?
Speaker 7 (05:55):
Is yet?
Speaker 3 (05:56):
What about can I have a Cromwell Alexandra central Ota situation.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Please you can you go to minus three? You've got
a minus three in.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
There is the weather extremes in Central Man and then
are one A numbers one.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
Numbers A Barmie one and Stuart Island fantastic seven seven?
I don't think because you've got the sea around you
say it's a different sort of a thing. CEA moderates
the temperature.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Yes, warmer on Stuart is Yeah, I wouldn't read about
it because you don't got the big land mask going
on there.
Speaker 7 (06:29):
I wouldn't read it.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
That's why a lot of people a lot of batches,
very expensive batches on Stuart Island. I know, I know
it looks great in photos.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
White sandy beaches, beautiful, global warming, I think freezing water.
Speaker 5 (06:45):
Jerry Mundy, the breakfast is.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
A text in it looks like North Canterbury minus four.
Speaker 6 (06:53):
There we go.
Speaker 7 (06:54):
I wouldn't read about it.
Speaker 6 (06:55):
There we go.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
Who's discussing off?
Speaker 6 (06:57):
Here?
Speaker 3 (06:57):
The the the the people that have affected our lives,
been part of our lives for so long. Rudy was
saying that when Jerry eventually gets sacked from seven Sharp
for bringing the state broadcasters to distribute.
Speaker 7 (07:11):
Stuff, I didn't say when you get sacked.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
I'm going down and a blaze of glory.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
Yeah you're going to announce your retirement halfway and they
just say, hell's I need you to do this for me, mate,
one more trip to the well. But Rudy was saying,
Jerry could do the with it. I could see you
doing that. I could see you doing that.
Speaker 6 (07:30):
I love to do that.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
God love, I genuinely, I genuinely love. I'm sorry for
everyone else to put but I genuinely enjoy it. I
look at her weather map and it actually brings me joy.
But I love looking at maps. I'm a map nerd.
Speaker 4 (07:43):
It's basically just a live map, isn't it.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
Really? When Google Maps came along, my life changed. The
day before and the day after I looked at the
Google map. Yeah, I remember when someone showed me podcast
was I remember the day the first person someone showed
me you said you'll be interested in this. Showed me
this is the thing google maps.
Speaker 7 (08:01):
I think it's called Google Google remember that, and showed
me Google it.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
And I went, what as you can zooming on anything?
And here it is. I took ages for it.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
Yes, it was like dialogue.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
But I was like, oh my god, and you just
go anywhere and look at anything. I was like, this
is oh, you can zoom in on it, because before
that I genuinely used to look at maps and nerd
out on you know, maps, map box.
Speaker 7 (08:30):
Yeah lovely.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Oh yeah, Well, well I was the child of a
of an and soldier in the New Zealand Defense Force.
Speaker 4 (08:37):
So as a child I.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
Had to do all the navigating in the car off
a physical map, and I would have to orientate the.
Speaker 4 (08:44):
AA roadmaps to wherever we were going.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
And he would make me navigate us to places where
I think he already knew how to get there.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
It's just TAJB how to. So I was the navigator.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
So how come you still don't know which way the
winds comes from? Efforts easterly for example? You don't know
whether that's going or coming from the south east?
Speaker 4 (09:02):
Yeah, don't care. Well, I just maps, don't have maps, don't.
Speaker 7 (09:07):
Have map books.
Speaker 4 (09:08):
Yeah I don't know it's southeast west. No, they do,
but they don't.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
Have what the weather, what what the weather's doing on it?
Speaker 1 (09:15):
So no, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
It's just one of those things.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
My brains decided it wasn't going in We're talking about
some of the weather people who have graced our lives
in the in the past, Renee Right being one of
them who and I reminded me of a story that
involves Renee Right and the Alternative commentary collective Do you
remember this? So years ago we did a do they
Know It's Cricket Time at All?
Speaker 4 (09:36):
Rip off? And as we were doing.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
That, we got a bunch of New Zealand celebrities to
come in and lend their voices to it, much like
the original Do they Know It's Christmas Time? And she
came in and her role was her I had to
drive basically for the shot. I had to pull up
with her and Sam Wallace in the car. We stuffed
it up like three or four times, so end I
(10:00):
was like, I'm just gonna hit this as hard as
I possibly can. I come around the corner screaming in
this little twirt of its curb it. They stumble out
of the car. Cameraman's like, beautiful, great shot.
Speaker 6 (10:10):
Loved it.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
But to get that, we did it five times. So
five times I basically ramraated this building with Renee Right.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
In the car.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
She by this stage she's sick of it. So we
get in there, we're filming it. They make her sing
a couple of things, and you can see that she's
just a little bit uneasy. She's been very polite, she's
been lovely. She's doing everything that's asked to be absolutely
nailing it. She is a professional. She's standing at the back.
I'm standing at the back of the room, off camera,
standing next to the makeup lady, Lou You remember, Lou,
(10:38):
I remember, and Renee just sort of sidles up next
to low and goes, hey, Lou, I don't.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
Think this is the acc I was thinking.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
Of when I agreed to do her video shot. She
was thinking of the Accident Conversation Corporation. Now she's singing,
do they know it's cracket time at all? A bunch
of randoms?
Speaker 1 (10:57):
I loved it. At a moment, started questioning it. I
think it was of the pick up.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
It was I reckon it was the last it was
the last time I curbed that car, where she was
just like, what's the link between this and exitent Compensation Corporation?
And then when she walked into the room started singing,
she'd have been like, Oh, I don't think this is
It's just like, so, what's this one?
Speaker 4 (11:20):
It's a cricket commentary thing.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
I've been blessed for some great weather people over the years.
Rene writes, right up there, people love Renee, very clear,
clear reader, great voice.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
You hate Dan Corbett though, way.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
Jam Mackey, I love Dan Corbett.
Speaker 5 (11:39):
Jerry in the Night the Hodarchy Breakfast.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
Six eighty two on the Haicky Breakfast time if you
later sport headlines. Thanks to export Ultra the ber for here,
three more teams will advance to the round of sixteen
at the FIFA World Cup today.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
As one of them in Germany. No wo a Germany.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Zoey whatever in Germany is today, Zoey. She isn't talking
to anyone ever since yesterday. She's old Zoe.
Speaker 4 (12:06):
I had to come and talk off the leg yesterday
after that game. Beautiful experience. By the way, whendn't got
my haircut.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
They'd put TVs in for the World Cup and he
just turned my seat so that we're both facing the
penalty shootout.
Speaker 4 (12:18):
Oh and which watched that? Oh haircuts look like an
hour and a half, but we got to.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
Watch the game. Competition favorites France back in action from
nine this morning in New Jersey, having won all three
of their pool matches, scoring ten goals in the process.
They meet Sweden, who had both a five to one
win and a five to one lost in group play
Rocks and Diamonds. Later today, Ecuadora will play their first
World Cup knockout match since two thousand and six, but
(12:43):
it's a daunting one. They meet co hosts Mehico at
the Esteka from one damn Ivory Coast are playing Norway
at as we speak, Norway lead one nil after seventy
two mins.
Speaker 8 (12:54):
That.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
I think that Baraguay vers Lutschland yesterday with the upset
you have been waiting for, Jeriah. I think that's are
they like fortieth or something. And Germany really prided themselves
crap on about how good they are at soccer.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
Not that great, no, but Germany did come into this
tournament saying, including Zoe, we've got a rubbish team. Yeah,
well proved it. They were right that they get through
this round. That that Fay France. Zoe was saying, We're
going to lose to France. Anyonoy it freaked out about France.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
France would have surrendered if they came up against Germany
and the Sigon one also first time since nineteen forty
five that both Japan and Germany have been knocked out
in the same day.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
Interesting. Lebron James will not be wearing a Lakers singlet
and is unprecedented twenty fourth season in basketball's NBA, the
four time champion has informed the Lakers he'll be departing
Los Angeles after eight seasons, including a victorious twenty twenty championship.
He's forty one, dude, free agency to find a new team.
(13:50):
He must just love playing ball.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
I think he was out for gout last year at
one point. But this is huge because the Lakers have
a good team. He just doesn't fit very well for them.
This is about as big a a news three that
as the NBA has had for quite some time. There's
rumors that he's going to go play for the Golden
State Warriors and play with Steph Curry because one of
his team mates, Stramon Green, just turned down a bigger
(14:14):
contract to leave room in the in the salary cap
for who we don't know, probably the wrong.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
So forty one MENA, you'll know this. How many games
does the average NBA player play?
Speaker 4 (14:24):
Well, The season's eighty two.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
The average player these days probably plays about sixty five games.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
Sixty five games a year.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
And then if you make the playoffs, that's at least
another sixteen So you could be somewhere in the neighborhood
of one hundred games of basketball, okay. And in some
instances are back to back, so Tuesday Wednesday.
Speaker 4 (14:40):
And other instances there will be like three and four nights.
It's pretty insane.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
So what I want to know is do they practice?
Speaker 3 (14:48):
Though not anymore. They used to back in the day,
but now pretty much know okay.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
So I find that interesting. It's like baseball. Yeah, Baseball,
they don't once they get into the season. There's no practice.
You can turn up before the game balls if you
want to, yeah, But basically they just play.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
Yeah, we'll send you an email.
Speaker 9 (15:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:06):
And the way the game's gone at the moment, it's
not as much like drawing up plays. The team doesn't
need to all know the same places, but more of
a free wheeling offense at the moment. Anyway, this is
gonna be huge, so I'll keep it whether I cocked
on where Lebron James ends up.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
And Kazumi Kobori has qualified for a third career golf major,
the twenty four year Old has earned a spot at
this month's Open Championship at Royal Birkdale after earning one
of five spots available at a qualifying event. Kibory joins
Ryan Fox and Daniel Elliott in the field for the
Major and that starts on July sixteen.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
But that's all very interesting, all of those headlines, Germany
getting knocked out of the World Cup, Lebron James, all
that stuff. The most important sporting headline this morning is
the Riverhead Raptors, the under eleven C grade basketball team
that Ruder plays for.
Speaker 4 (15:51):
They won assistant presumably because.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
They had a forty five year old man on the team,
a system coach.
Speaker 4 (15:57):
I want to know how they celebrated.
Speaker 1 (15:59):
Do they need an assistant coach?
Speaker 7 (16:01):
Sometimes the real coach can't go.
Speaker 5 (16:03):
Jerry and the hot Achy breakfast.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
So the Riverhead Raptors won the under eleven C grade
basketball competition. And Riverhead, well we stalk and all are
we stalkman?
Speaker 4 (16:17):
Who else are we playing?
Speaker 7 (16:19):
Mate?
Speaker 4 (16:19):
Who give us some of the other names?
Speaker 7 (16:21):
Some are land ballers, some.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
Of them ballers, Yeah, some of that.
Speaker 10 (16:26):
I don't know.
Speaker 7 (16:26):
It's kind of near.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
Is it never went to there?
Speaker 7 (16:30):
Nu, It's very winter there actually a couple of lakes,
A couple of lakes, a couple of little man made
pon pons.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
Anyone else out West.
Speaker 7 (16:38):
Marina Marina View School man out by West Harbor there.
Speaker 4 (16:42):
They don't have a cool nickname, that's Marina View School.
Speaker 7 (16:45):
Well, it's just the O. It's the m v S Suns.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
Do they get a view of the Marina from the school?
Speaker 7 (16:51):
No, but they were bottom at the table, so they
gave them, get them a good going over and round five.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
Who can forget round five?
Speaker 7 (17:00):
I'll never forget it. It was one of those weird
rounds where you get so far ahead and because the
referees are trying to look after what the kids are doing,
they're like, okay, now guys are going to have to
get you back to halfway to defend that for your school,
because we need to give these guys a chance.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
Oh right, right, So it's that competitive, Yeah yeah, but
you let other teams yeah okay, yeah, so your son's
team took it out the whole shi bang. I mean
the C grade. Yeah, it's not the A grade or
the B even the B grade. It's the C grade.
Speaker 7 (17:30):
Well, there is also a D and E grade, so
it's not.
Speaker 4 (17:32):
Okay, it's not good. The bottom middle of the fact.
Is there a promotion relegation? You guys be in the
B grade next year?
Speaker 7 (17:38):
Well, now it's going to be qualifying for the second
half of next year.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
Oh okay, that's yeah. Well but still grand shirts.
Speaker 7 (17:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
What I want to know from you is obviously the
parade we planned, and we'll hear about that in the sick.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
But did you cut the net down?
Speaker 3 (17:52):
Because ceremonially when a you know, you would have seen
when the Breakers were winning all their championships.
Speaker 4 (17:57):
You when you win, you cut.
Speaker 6 (17:58):
The net down?
Speaker 4 (17:59):
And then someone will is it the MVP? Where's it?
Speaker 7 (18:01):
Well, the way MCA that were running it, Adam we
Stalkland there. They were a young.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
Men's Christian association.
Speaker 7 (18:07):
Yeah, there's not a lot of young men around there.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
But that's fun to stay there, it's fun to go.
Speaker 7 (18:12):
I wouldn't stay They do have a gym there. The
thing was that there was going to be another final
after us, and then another final after them, so for
us to then get up to the net and start
cutting it regarded as candalism.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
Cut a little bit of the bottom off.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
No, if you I'd have been out there with the ladder,
cutting the thing down, sprang Champagne all over the court.
Speaker 4 (18:32):
It's got nothing to do with you. What they're playing
after you're done.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
You are, So you are your role inside of this team.
Speaker 7 (18:37):
You are the assistant coach.
Speaker 1 (18:39):
Are you officially the assistant coach?
Speaker 7 (18:41):
There's obviously a.
Speaker 4 (18:42):
Coach your assistant too. Did you do any coaching?
Speaker 7 (18:45):
I do some motivated vational shouting every now and again?
You do?
Speaker 1 (18:51):
Do you do any like? Do you actually run any drills?
Speaker 4 (18:53):
Do you do you call?
Speaker 6 (18:55):
Do you more? Do more? Edmund?
Speaker 7 (18:57):
No, I'm like I said, I'm motivational. Like I'll be like,
come on, guys, let's focus in.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
Nice great, Well, that will help teamwork, makes the dream
work back.
Speaker 7 (19:06):
On the guys. Yeah, that's a good one.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
So you're a parent that stands on the sideline in support.
Speaker 7 (19:11):
Yeah, But I'm also because my wife, missus Ruder, is
the team manager and when she can't go, I'm the
I fell in. So I'm the assistant team manager as well.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
With the coach. What the official coach call you the
assistant coach?
Speaker 7 (19:23):
What he does is every now and again because of
work commitments, he can't make it to the games, and
he'll be like, Hey, who can suthern for me today?
I'm on the WhatsApp straight away.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
You're sitting on your count and your black and white
striped shirt with your whistle in your hand.
Speaker 7 (19:37):
You suppose I could do No, no, no, I'm ready
to go.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
So you're a pushy parent. Essentially, you're a pushy, over
committed parent. Is that what we is he officially tight?
I want to know whether you're officially the assistant coach
or not with it, whether you are you in the
team photo.
Speaker 7 (19:52):
I'm in one of the team photos.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
I mean at the end of the year when they
get the proper photographer and are you on one side
of the kids?
Speaker 7 (19:58):
And then no, but okay, I'm my energy is around though, guys,
the aura's on the phone out. I'm all about Now
have you booked a.
Speaker 4 (20:10):
Topless bus for the parade? And when is it? Because
I know people want to line the streets of Riverhead.
Speaker 7 (20:15):
Well they missed out because all the kids want to
do was go to McDonald's, plan the playground and get
way too much sugar in them. That's all they wanted.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
Oh well, congratulations, Well yeah, you must feel crowd Yeah,
and thanks as well.
Speaker 7 (20:28):
Obviously, you've got to recognize the losers, the ballers and
hillpie ballers. Well done, second best, but suck stuff, Jerry.
Speaker 5 (20:39):
And then the hold Ikey Breakfast.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
So Uber's released. It's Lost and Found index for twenty
twenty six for New Zealand. Yep, there's an overseas one,
which was at least a few weeks ago actually, but
New Zealand's now always a little bit behind dragging the chain. Yeah,
classic New Zealand. And So obviously you got your phones
and your backpacks, your wallets which continue to top the list.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
Oh god, do you ever lift your wallet an uber?
Speaker 1 (21:02):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (21:03):
It's a nightmare.
Speaker 6 (21:04):
Man, Oh man.
Speaker 4 (21:05):
I had this guy so I lift my.
Speaker 3 (21:07):
Wallet in an uber one night. The next morning I
rung him and said, I have got you. Can you
have a look in the back seat? He goes, yeap,
I found it. I said do you mind? Do you
mind running around to me? And he's like, nah, I'm
busy today. I was like, okay, well where can I
come and get it from He's like, well, I'm an uber,
so I'm not in the same spot at any given times.
How am I going to get it back from you?
And he goes, well, I'm here right now. It's like, okay,
(21:27):
I'll come out, and he goes, I'm not there anymore.
Speaker 4 (21:29):
Oh I was.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
I was like, what is that?
Speaker 6 (21:31):
I know?
Speaker 3 (21:32):
And then I was like, well, hold on, hold on,
and so I rung him and I said, hey, is
there a way that I can injure a code and
I'll just order an uber to my house? Is there
a way that I can make sure it's your Uber?
And I'll pay ten dollars whatever you drive to me?
And he's like, nah, you can't do that. I was like,
what are we doing here?
Speaker 1 (21:48):
Brother?
Speaker 4 (21:48):
What's the what's the plan?
Speaker 1 (21:49):
I'll tell you what you encountered here? An absolute soco.
Speaker 6 (21:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
I would have been like, look, Socho, I need to
meet you somewhere. I've got a wallet. Actually, if you
went while on a phone, I would rather lose my Nowadays,
well I would rather lose my wallet on my phone.
I mean, I don't have a wallet. I couldn't my
cards are in my phone, so yeah, I'm going to
lose both.
Speaker 4 (22:08):
I couldn't have wrung him from my wallet, but I
could ring him from my phone.
Speaker 3 (22:11):
And I In the end, he just happened to end
up in a car park next near my house, and
so I was able to get down there and get it.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
So among some of the rear of fines chili bans,
I mean, i'd expect to That's just someone's just left
a chili bean on the boat.
Speaker 4 (22:26):
How do you forget that you had a chili bin
with you when you got an uber? I?
Speaker 7 (22:31):
Yeah, because you're wasted.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
Because you've been drinking the things that are inside the
chili banolques.
Speaker 3 (22:37):
You know what if it was you know, you know
how they unscrew them. You know they go down the
cozy club and do their pool on a Saturday night.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
The two piece, the two pieces, Yeah, I could see
how you could forget that.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
In a case.
Speaker 4 (22:49):
Well, and if you're over served on a Wednesday night, perhaps.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
I could see how you can forget a burger yeah,
or part thereof a vacuum cleaner. No, I wonder if
that's one on a stack like a dysonoid that's the
Electroluxe style.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
Is it a hoover?
Speaker 1 (23:05):
A bike? Now, okay, you've forgotten your bike? People drink.
I'd like to know how often people were drinking when
they lost these things false teeth.
Speaker 7 (23:15):
I wouldn't know how that happened?
Speaker 1 (23:18):
How did that happen?
Speaker 7 (23:19):
Because sometimes old people and ubers get amorous and false
teeth can fall out, right.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
What if you get amorus? You want to keep your
teeth in, don't you? You can't pash without teeth in. Damn,
it's just my guess. Anyone pashed someone without their teeth
in three four three.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
A tent I'd see again, I think coming over from
a festival maybe. I think ninety nine percent of these
a year past and all Black Jersey.
Speaker 6 (23:51):
I know of.
Speaker 3 (23:52):
One person who has gotten in the back of an
uber with a dog, and I don't think the driver
knew he had the dog, and then had to come
back out and hoover the entire uber.
Speaker 4 (24:02):
Because of the dog.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
Here ever, same person tried to get ano uber and
his undies and was denied access.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
And now this is the interesting part. So the index
also reveals the most forgetful place in New Zealand with Uber, obviously,
because there's probably very forgetful places that don't have uber
as well. So Auckland took out the most forgetful city,
worth nine thousand items, but that's because it's obviously the largest.
But the most interesting one is the is the amount
(24:30):
of items lost per ride per capita. Yeah, so that's
the this is the way to adjust to the necks
and that crown this year went to, of course blend
Him forgetful Old.
Speaker 4 (24:42):
Blenham, forgive the LOLd Blenham.
Speaker 1 (24:45):
So on the one item was lost per twenty five rides,
which is the highest amount.
Speaker 3 (24:51):
Blendm It's probably only about five ubers and Blenhem probably
just one guy.
Speaker 1 (24:54):
And the most forgetful day of the year twenty fifth
of April. Okay, Anzac day.
Speaker 4 (25:00):
So we're losing chili bins, we are losing Paul cues,
we're losing burgers, and we're losing them all on days
when we piss up.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
Who would have thought I can see what's happening here.
Speaker 5 (25:10):
Jerry and Mania The Hodarchy Breakfast, Jeremy Wells.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
And the Nia Stuart The Hodarchy Breakfast.
Speaker 4 (25:18):
We do a podcast here on this radio show. We
do it before the show. It's called the First Part
of the Chair.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
It's the first podcast released anywhere in the world because
it's released at about six o'clock.
Speaker 4 (25:27):
In the morning.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
And on that podcast this morning, we were discussing defunct
department stores your decas, Yes, Smith's cities para Rubber which
actually still going but de funks and for all intents
and purposes, and Jar and I have stumbled upon a
divide here, a differing of opinions where I, me and
(25:50):
my partner we won't go into places like a Harvey
Norman where where the salespeople set upon you as soon
as you walk in. I don't like to be I
don't like to talk to salespeople, and I will never
ask for assistance either.
Speaker 1 (26:03):
Well, can I just check your language? Thanks very much?
Where where the salespeople sit upon you?
Speaker 4 (26:09):
They do?
Speaker 1 (26:09):
I like to say this, where the salespeople help you.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
No, they are there to prey upon you.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
And my kind and gentle nature can be can be
exploited in those situations because I don't like to say
no to people.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
So when they come and they go, do you want
to buy this couch?
Speaker 3 (26:26):
And we've a really good at couch but okay, And
then they're like, it's two thousand dollars okay, and oh
do you want a five hundred dollars warranty on that you?
Speaker 6 (26:33):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (26:34):
Do you want us to put the bloody stained guard
thing on it?
Speaker 3 (26:36):
For another five book? And so that's why, because I can't.
I'm too polite and I don't like saying not to people.
So I am of the opinion that I don't want
to be helped in any shop. If I'm going to
get something, I just want to be left alone, have
my own time to browse the different things.
Speaker 4 (26:51):
Chants are already.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
Googled it before I go in, so I know what
I'm trying to get, but I don't want to be helped.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
I'm the opposite. If I'm going to a store, then
I've generally gone there because I want to buy something
and I want the person to help me. I don't
like walking into a store and being ignored. It's like
I've come here, I've got I've got money to spend. Clearly,
now I'm here to buy something. I'd like to be
I'd like to be helped, thanks very much. And look,
there's like varying degrees. I don't want to be pisted,
(27:20):
you know, I don't. I don't want to will be.
I don't want to feel like I've sort of you know,
hopped off the hopped off the train in the middle
of Mumbai and I'm on the way somewhere and someone's
trying to piss to me with trying to pissed to
me with this peddling WIRs. But I also would like
someone to sort of point me in the right direction
and then and then give me some information know what
(27:42):
they're talking about. I mean, for example, I'm just going
to use an example. Please. Recently, I went and bought
a TV from nol leaming yes, and.
Speaker 4 (27:49):
When they go you there and leaming, they'll jump on you.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
It was amazing. I mean I walked in there, I
didn't know what exactly the TV that I wanted to buy,
and then a young man helped me out and he
was really good in new newest TV's. He was friendly,
he seemed to want to sell a TV to me.
I want to buy a TV. You want to sell
a TV. This is great.
Speaker 4 (28:09):
I've seen this guy on the TV. I reckon, I
can gouge his eyes out of him.
Speaker 1 (28:12):
Well, he cut me a deal, and so I like
that part of it as well. He's that keen to
sell you, and that keen in those places because I
think that's paid on commission. Yeah, I think they then
they will cut your deal, which is awesome. But I
have been into other stores and I'm going to name
Farmers and it's like, is there a person here?
Speaker 6 (28:32):
No?
Speaker 3 (28:32):
I love that. That's what I want. I want to
be left alone. Even even if I go into a
hardware store and I have no idea what I'm looking
for or way to find it. I don't want to
be like, you're right, mate, gee help finding anything?
Speaker 4 (28:44):
No, I've got it sorted. And then I would just wander.
Speaker 3 (28:46):
Up and down those eyes for three hours trying to
find one specific bolt that I.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
Need to So your theory was, Maniah.
Speaker 4 (28:54):
I reckon more people are like me.
Speaker 3 (28:56):
I think I think the majority of Keywis just want
to be left alone in this shop experience, and they
don't want to be helped in anyway.
Speaker 1 (29:02):
I think more people are like me, but ruder you're
on then I side I am on. So you're making
me start the question whether maybe I'm an.
Speaker 7 (29:09):
Outlin WELLM and I when you talked about going into
a hardware store, yeah, the example that I think I
was going into a Bunnings and you walk in and
they're always really friendly and they're like, oh, can we
help you out? What are you looking for? I'm like, now,
I'm good man, I'm just browsing and then I immediately,
speaking of browsing, pick up the phone, go to Google.
They've got it on the website. You can go I
want this, and it goes road thirty two beige, and
(29:30):
you know exactly where to go. And I just asked
the guy.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
He's saying, can I help you? And you say yes,
I'm looking for some paint, and then he goes, it's
some rale ill sex and you go up to al Sex.
Speaker 4 (29:41):
No, I want to say, you just accept the help.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
No, you walk in and you say, no, thanks, I'm
all good, I know exactly where I'm going. And then
you walk around and looking lost for three hours, and
that Bunnings, And then every time you make icon deck
with the worker who goes.
Speaker 4 (29:52):
I can see you're lost here, Hey mate, how are you?
Speaker 3 (29:54):
And then just keep walking and never find the thing
you want, and then just walk out and shame with
a tail between your licks. I'd rather do that than
have anyone assist me in the shop.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
Okay, Well, I reckon until I started talking about this
with you too. I thought there were more people like me,
but three for it, three I hade hundred, headeche more
people like Manaia who don't like the help and ruder
or more people that like a bit of general help
like me, normal.
Speaker 5 (30:16):
People, Jerry and the Night, the Breakfast.
Speaker 1 (30:21):
We just running a pole at the moment, three for
three oh eight hundred Herdeki. Do you accept help from salespeople?
Do you like walking into a store and being helped
like me? Well, not even help, just a polite hello,
How are you going to help you?
Speaker 9 (30:34):
No?
Speaker 1 (30:34):
Thanks, I'm fine, I'm just looking for blah blah blah.
Oh there it is over there, Okay, thanks, I don't
even want that, or you like Mania and some kind
of weirdo who wants to walk into a store and
then doesn't want any kind of contact with anybody at all,
anyone to wander around for three hours looking for something
and may not even find it.
Speaker 4 (30:49):
Oh yeah, not find it and then walk out.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
So someone texts you as well and said I've walked
around and I've left stores without the thing I came
for because I was jumped on by salespeople. Definitely team Mania.
Someone else did, no Jerry, just no, sorry, I'm meeting
a dead spy.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
No jury, just no. I'll ask for help if I
need it.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
Those ladies that knock on the changing room when I'm
in my undays after trying on a pair of James.
Speaker 4 (31:11):
How's it going in there? Honey? Pe punishes? That's from Mike.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
Let's got a Pep who's on the line. Now, Good morning,
Pep walking to the show morning. Are you team and
I or are you team me?
Speaker 11 (31:22):
I'm teaming you. I haven't got time to find around,
like if I know what I want, you know, I'm
not like you. I'd rather like, do you need some help? Yeah?
Where do I find the I don't know? Round up?
Speaker 1 (31:36):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (31:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (31:38):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (31:38):
So what if you're just meandering around, you're having a
look at a couple of things, and then someone walks
up to here there goes having trouble finding you finding
everything you're looking for? Will you then just immediately go yeah,
I'm looking for this, this this?
Speaker 7 (31:49):
Where is it?
Speaker 5 (31:50):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (31:51):
A lot of the ton of will yeah, Like I say,
I otherwise you to take ages and you're looking around
and you think, oh, yeah, it'll be in I don't
know garden, so applies, and then it's not there, and
you're like wandering around and it's like, ah shit, I
just need to find this, and so then yeah, you
just you're all right there? Nah, I can't find the
right round up exactly.
Speaker 1 (32:10):
It's a much more efficient way. Thank you very much
for your call, but really appreciate that three four three
eight hundred hode key. I reckon as well. There's a
part of it that is a you guys ruder because
you're in the same camp as Minay. You guys see
it as an affront to your intelligence. So any kind
of part of it you refuse to accept help because
(32:31):
you're like, I.
Speaker 4 (32:32):
Oh, you think i'm suo. Oh you think I don't
know where this thing is?
Speaker 1 (32:35):
Do you think I can't figure this out myself?
Speaker 3 (32:37):
You don't think I know where this thing is in
the shop that I've never been at, And then I
will often walk around for an hour and then walk
out without the thing.
Speaker 4 (32:42):
And they were right.
Speaker 7 (32:43):
And also it's a bit like when you ask for
directions from someone and you don't want to appear stupid,
and they're like, oh, if you go down this road,
turn left on that one, turn right on the next
one third on your right is the one you want
to And I don't want to walk down there looking
like I don't know what they're talking about.
Speaker 4 (32:56):
Yeah, so I'd rather look for it myself.
Speaker 1 (32:58):
Yeah, I'm happy to look stupid, jim Welcome to the show.
Good morning, Hi Jimmy. You on my side, on an
I side, a bit of both.
Speaker 12 (33:08):
I like to be greeted, but then don't pissed me.
I will come to you if I need your help.
Ye and I've worked in retail and that would always
be my I would say hello, let them know I'm near,
and away you go. You can come to me if
you need help.
Speaker 11 (33:22):
I'm not gonna talk.
Speaker 12 (33:24):
You around the store.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
I'm just very passionate about this. I'm all in on
your You're a method as well. Greet me at the door,
let me know where you'll be. Let me walk around
looking lost for half an hour. Eventually, if I need to,
I will either come back to you with my table
two mi weeks or I'll just leave.
Speaker 1 (33:39):
Yeap, Okay. What about if the person comes up to
you and say you look lost? Will you at that
point no walk out of the store.
Speaker 3 (33:45):
I'll tell you what I do. Well, what do you do,
Jimmer in that situation? Do you just walk out of
the store.
Speaker 12 (33:50):
If someone approached me and said I look lost, I
would then maybe say, oh, yes, actually, can you please
help me?
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Okay? So you're prepare, you're prepared to if I've.
Speaker 12 (33:59):
Been in the time and clearly look absolutely love.
Speaker 4 (34:03):
Yeah, yeah, no, I like that. Thanks so much for that.
Speaker 12 (34:06):
I think if we had like some sort of traffic
light sticker system, when you walked into a store, you
took a sticker Green, help me, give me all the help, Red,
don't approach me, Orange.
Speaker 4 (34:18):
I'll come to you.
Speaker 1 (34:18):
If it's called a mouse, Jim, it's called a mouth,
and you can say it to the person when they
greet you and say hello, can I help you now,
I'm fine?
Speaker 3 (34:26):
Or a pair of headphones, Jim, that will do it
as well. Brendan, you've worked as a salesperson. Where do
you stand on this debate?
Speaker 13 (34:33):
I look, people have to be a welcome when they
come in the store, and the selfish and jumps the over.
Soon as you set one foot on the air, you
feel set upon and you're not gonna buy anything. So
give people's space and.
Speaker 10 (34:45):
Watch for the queues.
Speaker 13 (34:45):
Right if they walked straight to the TV, then you
know the one TV and you're gonna ask us the
want help. They're wandering around aimlessly then asking if they
want help. But you've just got to make people to
a welcome.
Speaker 1 (34:56):
Yeah, okay, I like where you're going, Brandon. So you're
actually saying that you've got to use your brain. Yeah,
upset we switched.
Speaker 3 (35:03):
On and think about what you're doing. Yeah, appreciate that, Brendon,
thanks very much for the call. I will even, Jerry
if someone Here's how little I want people to talk
to me as if they come over and go, hey,
can I help you? Are you looking for anything in particular?
I'll go now, I'm just waiting for the missus actually
really just killing a bit of time. Meanwhile, I'm frantically
looking for the thing I came from. Missus isn't even
with me?
Speaker 1 (35:23):
Okay, I'm going to mark you down as a different
type of person. Prepared to lie.
Speaker 5 (35:27):
Jerry and midnight the hot I keep breakfast.
Speaker 1 (35:31):
Okay, and I as we are putting the last people
in the drawer to come with us on our Grand
Final experience to Sydney thanks to Export Ultra three nights
and Sydney five Star Hotel return flights. It's the Races
is the Harbor Cruisers of course the Grand Final as
well on the Sunday.
Speaker 4 (35:47):
Mm HM, can't say exactly what is this is the
last chance. This is your last chance. Give us a
call out. Oh eight hundred hodaki, Oh eight hundred four
to eight, seven to five.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
Last three people were putting in the drawer, and then
we'll be drawing this at around.
Speaker 4 (35:59):
The eight forty five eight fifty marks.
Speaker 1 (36:01):
Ben from Wellington, you are the third to last person
we are putting in the drawer. Guys, very good, Thank you.
Speaker 6 (36:08):
Ben.
Speaker 1 (36:08):
Now, when you go shopping, do you like to be
helped or not helped?
Speaker 14 (36:13):
I'm sort of in the middle. I don't want to
get a rest, but when I don't know what I'm doing,
then I definitely want to call in the cavalry and expect,
you know, to be pointed in the right direction.
Speaker 3 (36:25):
But let's say you're walking into the shop and there's Gonck.
Is there anything you're looking for?
Speaker 6 (36:29):
What would you tell them?
Speaker 14 (36:31):
I just well, unless if I didn't have a clear plan,
I'd say just leave me alone.
Speaker 4 (36:35):
But if I was.
Speaker 14 (36:35):
Totally lost, I'd speak to them. But you know me
and I, if you added up all the time you've
been wandering around Bunnings, you could have done a double
degree by then learn French.
Speaker 4 (36:45):
Half my life.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
Half my life I've spent wandering around there looking for
stuff I can't find.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
I mean, Ben, if you go on a grand final
beer guard until, do you like to be helped or
not helped?
Speaker 14 (36:55):
Well, if I'm that and Neb, you're add I don't
know where the bars, I'd like a bit of help,
But you know, I'm hoping by then I know what
beer I want and you know so Yeah.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
Okay, we'll note that. Note that down down asterix by
Ben's name, it's going to Grant from Auckland Morder. Grant morning,
you're a hybrid shopper.
Speaker 15 (37:16):
Yeah, yeah, I definitely don't want anyone coming up to
me when I walk in and I wander around way
too long, and the l meaning that they haven't put
the thing I want in the place that it should be.
Speaker 9 (37:32):
And then if I.
Speaker 15 (37:32):
Really really need the thing, I will reluctantly ask someone.
Speaker 4 (37:37):
Then they show me, and then.
Speaker 15 (37:38):
I'll know that they should have put.
Speaker 10 (37:39):
It somewhere else.
Speaker 15 (37:41):
But if I don't want it, then I'm out of
the air and I'll just leave and need tell everybody
that they didn't have it.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
Wow. Yeah, there's a lot going on for you, Grant.
You're actually rearranging stores.
Speaker 15 (37:53):
Yeah, I should have done it.
Speaker 4 (37:55):
My way exactly.
Speaker 3 (37:56):
I should have put it where it makes sense to
put it for you.
Speaker 1 (37:59):
Good on your ground, You're going to drawer any from
where stork in the morning, Welcome to the show.
Speaker 13 (38:05):
Good morning, your hands and sons a gun?
Speaker 6 (38:07):

Speaker 12 (38:08):

Speaker 10 (38:09):

Speaker 3 (38:12):
What about you when you when you walk into a shop, mate,
do you want do you want help?
Speaker 4 (38:15):
Or are you just na?
Speaker 6 (38:16):
I'm right?
Speaker 4 (38:16):
And then wander around aimlessly for an hour and a half.
Speaker 13 (38:19):
I'm a big extraverd.
Speaker 11 (38:20):
I kind of play a bit of a reverse and
I'll just start talking to them about their day.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
Uncomfortable you guys sell cars like no, okay, sure.
Speaker 6 (38:34):
We don't do that.
Speaker 1 (38:35):
Oh that's good, Idy, I like that.
Speaker 6 (38:37):
Thanks, Thanks for your.
Speaker 1 (38:38):
Call, Eddie, and we'll whack you and the drawer to
come with us on that export ultra greend fil.
Speaker 5 (38:46):
Jerry and then the hdarchy Breakfast daily bespoke content that
you won't find on the radio show The Hdarchy Breakfast podcast.
Speaker 1 (38:54):
So the country's best bacon and ham were officially crowned
last night, with to stand out butchery is taking home
the top honors this year is one hundred New Zealand
bacon and Ham Awards. The Ossie Butcher and New Lynn
Auckland claimed the Supreme Bacon title for their middle bacon,
while Sam's Butchery and Silverdale earned bragging rights as the
(39:18):
Supreme Ham winner for their ham on a Bone. And
we've got both winners in the studio with us now,
Rubin from the Ossi Butcher, New Lynn, and Ian from
Sam's Butchery and Silverdale. Thanks for coming in guys. Firstly, congratulations.
This is a large award in your industry, isn't it, Reuben.
Speaker 16 (39:41):
Yeah, it's the first of the Yeah, it's the sort
of pinnacle of the sort of small goods. And you've
been chasing this for a while, sort of quite often
behind Sam, so it was sort of quite nice to
sort of take one of the crowns off him this year.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
Ruben, tell me what makes small goods small?
Speaker 16 (40:00):
You know why that's called small?
Speaker 6 (40:02):
Huge?
Speaker 7 (40:03):
Yeah, they are, Ian.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
You might know what makes small goods small?
Speaker 10 (40:08):
And small good's got two definitions. One is your bacon,
ham and sausages. And also it's used for offals. Okay,
everything that's exported is classified as a small good, like
your liver or your heart, your kidneys, spleens, confusing.
Speaker 1 (40:30):
Really, are we exporting spleens spleen not us?
Speaker 4 (40:38):
Is there a supreme spleen or hamaker? What does it
take to make the country's best bacon.
Speaker 16 (40:47):
You've got to start with one hundred percent of New
Zealand pork. Start off with because it all starts with
the good farmers. And as a voice said, it's consistency.
It's just you just got to find that recipe. And
we've been using the same cure were since you know,
Adam was eve when I was about thirty odd years
ago when I started. And obviously you tweak it the
salt levels and every all the levels has sort of
(41:08):
come down with the way people are health conscious. So
it's sort of just trying to find that right balance
that you're not just adding paul salt because if you
reduce it too much, then there's no flavor.
Speaker 4 (41:20):
What do you reckon? Keywis get wrong about cooking their bacon.
They burn it. What's the gy I think.
Speaker 16 (41:25):
It's all individual. Some people like it crispy, credit, yeah,
I sort of like it a little, you know, a
little bit crispy, but you still want to have the
moisture in that. So you've got to have good fat
content in.
Speaker 1 (41:34):
It, and you took out best bone in Ham at
the awards. What makes a good bone in ham? Just
that I've always wondered about this is the is the bone?
Do you add the bone as.
Speaker 4 (41:48):
The How does it work you put the bone in?
Speaker 7 (41:50):
Is it the bones?
Speaker 6 (41:52):
The bones?
Speaker 10 (41:52):
Yeah? Okay, you just bone bone around the bone. But
it's it's zer as such. But you can. You can
have a co b which is a ham with boning.
We're gonna have a Champagne ham. It's got no bone.
Speaker 1 (42:12):
Ian when you're storing it in the fridge, say when
you've got your Christmas hamd because that's what I'm thinking
with the bone and ham. A lot of people talk
about putting it in a ham sack. My mother loves
to put lemonade over the hamsack. Is that a lot
of crap?
Speaker 10 (42:29):
No, it's not. It depends on your taste and depends
on what you've done for years. If you like what
you've done for years, stick with it. But it's an
individual situation.
Speaker 3 (42:44):
What about your ham? The supreme winner? No one makes
a bit of ham in the country, at least for
the next calendar year. What is it that made their
hands so good. What separates it from the rest?
Speaker 10 (42:55):
Time? Don't rush the process, do it gradually like most things,
don't rush them at time. Prevail that time be the
answer to it all.
Speaker 4 (43:11):
It's good advice for life for that.
Speaker 1 (43:13):
Yeah, do we know the name of the peak that
this particular ham came from?
Speaker 5 (43:19):
Them?
Speaker 7 (43:19):
Jerry?
Speaker 1 (43:24):
So what's the best in terms of Ian? I've always
wanted to know this.
Speaker 7 (43:29):
Are you?
Speaker 1 (43:29):
Are you a condiment man?
Speaker 6 (43:32):
Ian?
Speaker 1 (43:33):
Are you a straight I mean, I guess when you've
got really really good ham, you'd be saying you just
want to have the flavor of the handful. Stop, you
don't want any extra bits of it.
Speaker 10 (43:42):
Yeah, it's it all comes back to taste at the
end of the day, and all of us have got
a different taste. So you're trying to you're trying to
cater for the majority at the end of the day.
But don't but don't rush the process of them. Time
is natural, so let it let us take its natural course.
Speaker 1 (44:07):
Well, congratulations fellas the winners of the Supreme Ham Awards,
the Bacon and Ham Awards. Ruben and Ian, I'm sure
hopefully do you want to give a plug for your stores? Actually,
where's where's your.
Speaker 16 (44:24):
Store, Ruben out West West is best and New Lynn
So yeah, just on marganev come out and see us.
Google's your best friend and Ian.
Speaker 10 (44:35):
We're in Silverdale behind King's Plant bun on the corner there.
Speaker 1 (44:40):
Well, good on you guys. Congratulations and thank you so
much for coming in. I'm looking forward to eating it.
Speaker 5 (44:45):
Thank you, Jerry and Mini the hold ikey breakfast.
Speaker 1 (44:49):
It's time to play It's academic. We have got a
three hundred dollars Bunnings voucher up for grabs this morning.
We're gonna ask you five questions. If you get three right,
you will win that three hundred dollars Bunnings voucher and
get your school. It'ched onto the much vaunted role of on.
It's academic.
Speaker 3 (45:05):
Three and bucks is a lot, man. That is a
lot for a Wednesday. I hope the questions are appropriate.
Speaker 7 (45:10):
Ruder, I reckon. I kind of like to go for
two gettable, three difficult and then see where the cards
lie after it.
Speaker 3 (45:18):
Yeah, and it does just come down to whether they're
in your wheelhouse or not.
Speaker 1 (45:22):
Let's go to Reagan Morning, Reagan. Welcome to the shows. Reagan.
You're from Dunedin. Ye, how old are you Reagan nineteen nineteen.
You're a building a printice.
Speaker 4 (45:34):
This is going to be okay. So you were at
high school last year? What school? We were at?
Speaker 3 (45:39):
Steuth Targer High School south of Tigert Bell clother Yep,
that's it, okay, okay? Any any famous high school students
from South Otago High School?
Speaker 7 (45:50):
Tony Brown in South Oak Tiny Brown.
Speaker 3 (45:53):
That'll do okay, that'll do it all right? Well, if
you're win this party at Tony Brown's house.
Speaker 1 (45:58):
Let's get into it. Good Reagan, you got forty five seconds.
Name one rugby league club represented by former KIWI Jared McCracken,
worries No and Star Trek. What is the middle name
of captain James t Kirk Tiberius in which Norwegian synthpop
(46:23):
band had the nineteen eighty five hit take on Me.
I can't do it.
Speaker 4 (46:40):
The clock got loud? There didn't it?
Speaker 1 (46:42):
Can't do it? Difficult, way too difficult.
Speaker 4 (46:46):
I would also say Reagan undone by his his.
Speaker 1 (46:49):
Age there, I think he was by his age.
Speaker 4 (46:54):
Do you want to hear the last two anyway? Reagan? There?
Oh no, yes, unlucky Reagan.
Speaker 1 (47:02):
I would say, Reagan's good on your Reagan, thanks for calling,
and I would say Reagan was undone by his age
and his knowledge.
Speaker 5 (47:11):
Jerry and the Night the Breakfast.
Speaker 1 (47:14):
After another huge year on the world stage, ERSA Carlson
is heading home. She's bringing her brand new stand up show,
Fatty on a Yacht.
Speaker 4 (47:24):
That's what it's called, right, Jerry didn't just say Fatty.
Speaker 1 (47:27):
On a yacht audiences across museum in this December, she
joins us, now is a Colson Fatty on a yacht?
Speaker 17 (47:34):
Yes, Fairy on a yacht?
Speaker 4 (47:38):
Yes?
Speaker 17 (47:38):
Guess what? Guess what I did last year? What that
I went on a yacht? I thought I better write
a show about this. I don't know a lot of
people that will so yeah, it was a lot of fun,
and the show is a lot of fun. I've been
touring and I tell you what, not a lot of
radio people are comfortable saying the name of my show.
Speaker 4 (47:58):
No, well is.
Speaker 3 (48:00):
The thing is as it could have been called anything,
And the listeners wouldn't have known that Jerry's actually reading
it word for word, because it's the kind of thing
that he would just he would just say, are you
living in Australia at the moment?
Speaker 17 (48:10):
Are out of your fresh mind? I am out in
west Auckland. I have not moved since I moved here
twenty years ago. No, I'm still a whisky. I'm still here.
Speaker 4 (48:20):
Oh why do.
Speaker 1 (48:21):
We think that you're just globe trotting and making millions
of dollars going?
Speaker 17 (48:27):
That's happening. Also still living in Henderson.
Speaker 1 (48:33):
How's the airports?
Speaker 17 (48:37):
Listen? I'll tell you they gave me my wings that
in New Zealand. I'm a pilot. Now I have so
many bank years as a platinum member. It used to
be lak. Now it's platinum here, don't I I have
seven bank years. I can stop flying today and then
for seven years still be platinum. And they started off,
they just go, can we give you? Would you like
(48:59):
to play? I'm like, no, I want those years.
Speaker 4 (49:04):
Just an airfield out in west Auckland so you can
get about a bit click as I feel like you've
just been.
Speaker 3 (49:07):
You've been on You've been every You've been on Netflix,
You're on TV all the time. It seems like you're
flat out. When do you get time to rest?
Speaker 17 (49:16):
I mean it just looks like but I do like,
like you know your cat has EXPURSI of energy and
then just lay a few hours. That's me, so I
don't work summer, I'm just here at home with the kids.
And then I just I'm just off the back of
two months at home. I try not to work at
the beginning of winter so that I can sort of
(49:38):
hibernate for a little bit, and then I don't work
any school holiday. So even though it looks like I'm
real busy, I'm just real productive in the times that
I do work.
Speaker 1 (49:46):
Yes, I understand. And this is the thing about you
is and I think a lot of people inside of
comedy know there's probably a lot of people are listening
won't understand this. But you go about things in a
very thoughtful, methodical manner. Are you still running that operation?
I think you told I hope I'm not giving away
a secret, but you told me that you run a
three year cycle in terms of shows, and were you
(50:09):
two of them? Are you still doing that?
Speaker 17 (50:10):
Yes, I stagger. I do one show in the UK,
one show in Australia, one show in New Zealand, although
Satty on a combined it, and this year I'm doing
it all. But now I still write like that this
year so I've already started writing next year's show and
I've just recorded last year's show, so I've got the
three going again. But yeah live, I'm doing the same
(50:33):
show this year, which is kind of nice actually enough.
I got my own skitch show, Ursula, and that's coming
to New Zealand soon, I think September. And I just
if I stagger that show, my brain will explode. There's
just too much going on there.
Speaker 1 (50:50):
Okay. And you're a person that sits down as where
you actually sit down and as opposed to you, right, hey,
don't start, you sit down and you actually you you
sit down and write. Ay, that's the way that you
do it, and you do it discipline.
Speaker 17 (51:05):
My real job, Like I go, okay, I need to write,
so I'm going to take two hours to don't just
sit and write. But now it's note it when I'm
on a plane because our floors are frequently So then
I go, okay, whenever I'm on a long international flight,
anything over three hours, I just sit down and I
write that whole time. Right, eat and sleep. I mean,
(51:26):
you've got to eat everything that presents you on a plane.
That's the rule. I don't make it. And then but
then I do a lot of my writing on the plane.
So then I'm so focused. They are trying to derail
me by putting Wi Fi on all the planes, but
I try not to even download that on my phone.
Speaker 1 (51:44):
Yeah, well that helps when you've got one of those
suits that you get at the front of the plane
where you get like a you know, your own shower
and all that sort of crap that you probably get
as part of the Platinum Club.
Speaker 17 (51:54):
Yeah, I mean, I don't know, you know, the shower.
But because the concierge just come and sponges me.
Speaker 3 (52:00):
Down to my seat, you're telling me that you actually
write these jokes. You don't just walk up onto the
stage and freestyle it every time.
Speaker 17 (52:12):
I mean there's a lot of freestyling. Sometimes I'm a
surprised as the audience and then I laughed her and
then I go, I don't know if I should be
having more fun than the audience, but I do. But
you know what, especially when you too as much as
I do, and I have like two or three depending
on which country I go to, it's the same tour managers.
And if you don't mix things up, then you can
(52:33):
tell they're ready to hit button nail. You got to
you got to mix the show. So every night, the
show I don't know. It could be an hour and
a half. It's an hour forty five minimum hour and
a half. But I change the show every night and
also depending on which city I'm in, I will mix
it up a bit, you know, because I mean Blenham
is funnier than you know. I was in the cargo.
(52:55):
But no, actually am a cogo is funnier than blenn No.
I don't want to get into it, mate.
Speaker 1 (52:58):
Well I do. I do want to get into it
because what you obviously you're traveling the world, You're doing
your shows everywhere where are you must have places where
you go these are my people. I know that these
are my people, and you turn up with supreme confidence
like are where are the places that you know? Are
these are my people?
Speaker 17 (53:16):
Listen, if I literally anywhere on the South Island, if
I go to christ Church, I have the most rib
rasis in christ Church. And it could just be like
a mental thing because my sister is still live this
she only just moved to Henderson last last year. But
I just have the best shows in christ But anyway,
(53:37):
really on the South Island, and I think maybe in
my head goes, hey we're on holiday here, you know,
So I really chill out, but no, and I mean
really at home New Zealand, I have the best shows.
That's why I always leave it to the end of
the year because I feel like I'm having a Christmas
party stretched out, you know, and because do you know,
like I don't really dream. But I love playing golf,
(54:01):
and so you can only visit a city so many
times or the town so many times. So I take
my travel golf clubs and then in the mornings I'll
go to play golf. And New Zealand's got the best
golf courses and it's just you can drive through a
little town and there's just this amazing golf course.
Speaker 11 (54:18):
So I love that.
Speaker 17 (54:19):
Like New Zealand is a completely different beast tour because
it's so chill and whenever you get driving anywhere they go.
Have you been to Gary's flights? He's got the best
of whatever insert best of whatever there, it's just right.
Speaker 11 (54:33):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (54:34):
I see you're coming to you know me in Auckland, Wellington,
Cristius Dunedan, Hamilton, Totngue in between December fourth and seventeenth.
Speaker 4 (54:42):
Should we get out for a round of golf when.
Speaker 14 (54:43):
You're up ah Reckon we should be rude, not.
Speaker 1 (54:46):
To what's your handicap at the.
Speaker 17 (54:48):
Moment, I don't want to get into it, and I
didn't think we were going to get personal. Let's talk
about me being fatten on the.
Speaker 1 (54:56):
Ezekalson. Thank you so much for coming on the show.
Always a bloody great pleasure to talk to you, and
and best of luck for the shows. Decend before to seventeen.
I'm sure if you just google is La Carlson New
Zealand shows, you'll find out where they are.
Speaker 9 (55:10):
It's sure, thanks Mit pleasure, Jerry and Midnight the Hdarchy Breakfast.
Speaker 2 (55:17):
Jerry and Mania joined the complate the Hodarki Breakfast discussion
group on Facebook for more.
Speaker 1 (55:26):
The game where we name five ye armed people. You
have to tell us whether they are dead or alive.
We need two contestants. I had one hundred herdechie I
hade hundred four to eight seven five. The two contestants
go head to head.
Speaker 4 (55:37):
Let's go to the phone lines where we find Jeremy
from Aukland. Good morning, Jeremy. You're a builder. What's your
favorite tool?
Speaker 5 (55:44):
I've got to be the hammer.
Speaker 4 (55:45):
What noise does a hammer make?
Speaker 11 (55:48):
Bang?
Speaker 5 (55:48):
Bang?
Speaker 4 (55:48):
That will be your buzzer this morning, Jeremy perfect bang
bang bang bang the lucky.
Speaker 1 (55:54):
Look, let's reference at about four people and now I
got it, bang bang luck you Luke straight out.
Speaker 4 (56:02):
Of my head. Renee, good morning. You're from Auckland.
Speaker 3 (56:06):
You're a teacher when you need the classroom's attention because
they're making too much noise.
Speaker 4 (56:10):
What do you say?
Speaker 6 (56:13):
That's a good question.
Speaker 4 (56:14):
Normally start with a countdown, So ten nine bang, it's
but long, it's beit long for that?
Speaker 14 (56:20):
What about lessen up?
Speaker 4 (56:23):
Listen up?
Speaker 3 (56:24):
Okay, so we've got listen up and we've got bang bang.
This is gonna be a mess.
Speaker 1 (56:32):
Okay. So bang bang is Jeremy from Auckland, the builder.
Listen up is Renee from Auckland. The teacher is that right? Okay,
that's right? All right. Here we go first to three,
father of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams, Richard.
Speaker 9 (56:52):
Jeremy the Builder alive.
Speaker 1 (56:56):
He is, he's eighty four years old. Direct so much
going on here?
Speaker 4 (57:00):
Jeremy's on one. Yeah, okay, God you do the scorelman,
I've convoluted it. I'll give track of it.
Speaker 1 (57:05):
Okay, good stuff. Person number two represented New Zealand, at
four Olympic Games, four Commonwealth Games over two decades. Liz
Mills did her alive. Renee the Auckland teacher.
Speaker 11 (57:18):
I did unfortunately, just passed away, all right, gone.
Speaker 1 (57:21):
To ninety one?
Speaker 4 (57:24):
Nice one, Renette.
Speaker 1 (57:25):
What's the Scorelmann?
Speaker 4 (57:26):
It is one of peace?
Speaker 1 (57:27):
Okay. Third person The thirty fifth Prime Minister of New Zealand,
Jim Bulgia, did her alive. Bang Bang Jeremy the Builder
in October last year, age in ninety He did not
get shot ruder, he did not get sure hit with
a hammer. He died of old age.
Speaker 4 (57:49):
Listen up, bang bang Jeremy is up to.
Speaker 1 (57:51):
One okay, person four, widely regarded as one of the
greatest players in football history. Dead or alife, Bang Bang
Jeremy Palai is renee palais is bad.
Speaker 6 (58:08):
Yeah, sign up.
Speaker 1 (58:11):
In twenty twenty two, aged eighty two.
Speaker 3 (58:13):
I've got to say the percentage of times that dead
alive comes down to the last question.
Speaker 4 (58:16):
It's through the roof. It's more often than not, isn't it.
Speaker 6 (58:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (58:18):
Now, this is an interesting moment for you Jeremy and
you Renee, because do you try and bang bang or
listen up your way in early Yeah, and.
Speaker 3 (58:28):
Many and many a person has lost this game doing
that exact tactic.
Speaker 1 (58:31):
Because as soon as you hear this person's name, I suspect,
you will know whether they are dead or alive. So
that's the question. Person number five for the one and
the one hundred dollar Buddings Voucher, best known for her
nineteen eighty seven hit.
Speaker 6 (58:47):
Look her up on Going Renee.
Speaker 11 (58:51):

Speaker 3 (59:54):

Speaker 7 (01:00:15):
You' here.
Speaker 1 (01:00:16):
It'll be a great trip. We've done, as you said,
number of them before. They've all been fantastic events and
we have survived them. Has it taken us weeks to
get over them? When we've arrived home months? Will it
take us a long time to get over this?
Speaker 7 (01:00:29):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (01:00:30):
Yes, but it's important to live in the moment and
enjoy those moments when they occur. That's right, all right,
let's call our winner right now, we've got them on
the line. Is this Scott, mate Scott, it's Jerium and
I here? How are you?

inkling as to what teams you might be watching?
Speaker 6 (01:01:13):
Mate?
Speaker 11 (01:01:13):
I reckon they want us to win this year.
Speaker 3 (01:01:15):
It's going to be the Wise vers the Panthers to
meet your armoring off the back fence.
Speaker 4 (01:01:20):
Okay, all right, I like it. I like it.
Speaker 3 (01:01:23):
This is good stuff. Congratulations Scott. It's it's you and
a mate who you're thinking to bring in.
Speaker 4 (01:01:28):
It's gonna have to be Zavier, my mate from work.
Speaker 3 (01:01:30):
You don't want to you don't want to play your
mates off against each other.
Speaker 4 (01:01:33):
See who's got the highest bid.
Speaker 11 (01:01:35):
Well, he entered this competition as well, so I think
I have to take him.
Speaker 1 (01:01:38):
He was going to take me. Oh wow, good on
you guys. They're smart. Smart from you, Scott, very smart.
All right, Well, congratulations and look forward to hanging out
with you in Sydney.
Speaker 4 (01:01:48):
All right, boys, look forward to it.

Speaker 5 (01:02:01):
Lt Jerry and Midnight The Hold Breakfast the.
Speaker 1 (01:02:05):
Hurley joins us in the studio Oday.
Speaker 6 (01:02:08):
Guys, Hello, New Zealand.
Speaker 1 (01:02:09):
How are you, Ben? I'm really good thing you've bought
something on with you?
Speaker 8 (01:02:13):
Well, I was listening to the show yesterday and you
got a present from a listener. Yeah, Coleman, Yeah, Coleman.
It wasn't mustardy brought and though was it?
Speaker 6 (01:02:23):
It was?
Speaker 8 (01:02:24):
It was pled pickled joy.
Speaker 1 (01:02:27):
It wasn't mustard, but it was something in a jar.
Speaker 6 (01:02:29):
It was. So I make and grow my own pickles.
Speaker 1 (01:02:33):
Wow, yeah, I grow my own.
Speaker 8 (01:02:38):
It's not as easy as it used to be, my
own self sourcing.
Speaker 4 (01:02:43):
The chemically enhanced these pass.
Speaker 6 (01:02:46):
But they're very salty now. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:02:50):
I go the cucumbers in the summer and picked them
when they're just the size, and I pickle them and
I like an American style peckle because I think New
Zealand pickles are too vinegary.
Speaker 1 (01:03:01):
Yeah, I'll tell you what. Those pickles that you get
in the States, those giant bloody things.
Speaker 8 (01:03:05):
Yeah, good today, just on the side of a sandwich.
Speaker 1 (01:03:08):
Where they those Yeah, just chuck a pickle on the side.
Oh man. I never I was never a pickle fan
as a kid, but I have come around on a packle.
Speaker 6 (01:03:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:03:17):
It changes you when you go to America and you
just get a side pickle.
Speaker 4 (01:03:20):
So what's your process?
Speaker 1 (01:03:21):
That's side pickle? I mean, they're big enough to be
your main pickle, they really are. I've been jealous with
some of the things that I've seen on my plate
on a side pick.
Speaker 4 (01:03:35):
What's your what's your process?
Speaker 6 (01:03:36):
How do you make that?
Speaker 8 (01:03:37):
So it's a really simple formula, and it's like it's
it's basically it's water and then half of that as
much water as vinegar, and half of that is sugar,
and half of that is salt and descending order, if
you get what I mean. Okay, And these are Dell pickles.
So they've got Dell, they've got mustard seeds, they've got
peppercorns and but a garlican there. And Yeah, the thing
(01:04:02):
I'm most proud of ever I love.
Speaker 4 (01:04:05):
And your kids, yep, because the pickles turned out how
you wanted them to.
Speaker 8 (01:04:11):
Humans are imperfect, and they are imperfect. Right, I love
them very much, but they're imperfect. These are perfect?
Speaker 1 (01:04:20):
Can I try one?
Speaker 6 (01:04:23):
A large?
Speaker 12 (01:04:25):
This is?
Speaker 1 (01:04:26):
This is? I mean, two days in a row, I
have been treated. Now, what we realize is that these
guys aren't strong enough to open a jar.
Speaker 6 (01:04:33):
Buckets.
Speaker 3 (01:04:34):
Yeah, you got good super bau huge hands.
Speaker 1 (01:04:38):
One thing I can do better than other people. Here
we go, Oh yeah, okay, I'm passing these around rooted
to touch it last. So okay, it just does weird
things less and does all sorts of.
Speaker 3 (01:04:55):
Have we just started to convey a belt of pickled
goods that have come through.
Speaker 8 (01:04:59):
There was another motivation to bring them in next. It
sounds like it really annoyed you yesterday.
Speaker 3 (01:05:05):
I just don't want to see the precedent that if
you've got pickled goods that were open for business.
Speaker 1 (01:05:09):
He just doesn't want people giving things to us, all right,
he doesn't. It doesn't like getting things.
Speaker 4 (01:05:14):
I'm not capable of accepting.
Speaker 7 (01:05:15):
Love early, nicey, full of flavor.
Speaker 1 (01:05:21):
Wow, I see what your name? Perfect?
Speaker 6 (01:05:24):
Yeah? Yeah, yes, salty.
Speaker 1 (01:05:28):
Then it comes assault at the end.
Speaker 8 (01:05:29):
Yeah, then you're new Zealand pickle. But that's what the
Americans do.
Speaker 4 (01:05:33):
What's your favorite thing to serve these? With them out
the jar?
Speaker 8 (01:05:36):
I just in a burger, check them in the slice,
might put them in a burger.
Speaker 1 (01:05:40):
Pretty good, Ah, Benhurley, what a treat you're selling these?
Speaker 6 (01:05:43):
I should behave.
Speaker 8 (01:05:44):
Yeah, I think that's your concern with the whole people
bringing pickle goods. And you're from a rural community where
a lot of preserves probably would have been passed around
and it's sort of just trauma from that.
Speaker 1 (01:05:54):
It is.
Speaker 7 (01:05:56):
After taste of the pepper, because there's pepperckles floating around
that beautiful I didn't get it at first, it's now there.
Speaker 1 (01:06:03):
Do you know what this would go well with? And
that's the award winning ham on the bone that Ian
brought him today. I don't know if you heard Ian,
but he came on. He's a butcher from Sam's Butchery
and Silverdale. He won best ham on the Bone. He
sounded like the old guy from the Mainland.
Speaker 8 (01:06:19):
Cheese dyes and takes time.
Speaker 1 (01:06:24):
And I reckon that one of these, beauty.
Speaker 6 (01:06:27):
I can just wrap the ham in it.
Speaker 1 (01:06:29):
Yeah, I'm going to go another one for that second.
Speaker 7 (01:06:31):
Yeah, looks unusual for you, Jerry. I can troll your
one and done very good.
Speaker 4 (01:06:36):
For you song, so we can go get some ham Yeah,
very good.
Speaker 1 (01:06:40):
I imagine wrapping up working on a blanket.
Speaker 5 (01:06:46):
Jerry and the nights.
Speaker 1 (01:06:48):
I'm not sure about you guys, but my algorithm on
the Instagram is going crazy with being Stokes stuff. Really
it's full of Stokes.
Speaker 4 (01:06:59):
He doesn't wear enough bikinis I to show up my mind. Unfortunately,
I think that could bit. I don't know now I'm
going to fear a bit of that as well.
Speaker 3 (01:07:08):
I've been consuming a lot of Stokes content because when
it happened, when he retired midway through the day four
of the Test match playing against US, and we're.
Speaker 7 (01:07:17):
All like day four yeah, why?
Speaker 4 (01:07:20):
I can't really figure it out? So I went to
the well of.
Speaker 3 (01:07:24):
My favorite cricketing my second favorite cricketing podcast, of course,
The B YC my favorite cricketing podcast. If I had
to pick a second, it would probably be The Great Cricketer.
They just had such a great way of summing up
exactly what played out and why haven't listened to this?
Speaker 18 (01:07:41):
Stokes in the ECB Comms team orchestraight and announcement of
his retirement to coincide with his eleventh over of a
spell in the afternoon, so there's a standing oh. Once
the crowd hears that he is retiring. Then he gets
a poll, so there's another standing oh. Then it's tea,
so there's an another standing oh. Then he gets a
guard of honor from his team as they return from
(01:08:04):
t standing oh from the crowd. Then New Zealand are
all out. Stokes promotes himself to open the batting, taps
Amelia Gay on the shoulder, sprints off to a standing oh.
E merges onto the field to a guard of honor
from New Zealand and a standing oh. And he's out
now he got thirty, departs to a standing oh. When
you look back on it, Stokes took a wicket, got
thirty and led his team to the precipice of a
(01:08:24):
record breaking loss against New Zealand twos. The headlines read
ben Stokes was fallible, but that is what made him
the People's Champion.
Speaker 4 (01:08:34):
Can we get a final count up how many standing
o's were it?
Speaker 7 (01:08:36):
There was seven standing o's that he got. I don't
think that was all of them either, because obviously he
had one later on he did some press with the
BBC and the crowd came along right out corner, a
couple of standing o's from there, and then at least
for the Knicks day as well. Amazing.
Speaker 1 (01:08:50):
He led from the front and he's he's a team player.
There's no doubt about this. I like this one. On
the Final World podcast, Jentalist Ben Jones described Stokes final
Test and he a tantrum from an unbelievably gifted cricketer.
