(00:00):
I'm not gonna open up the phonelines today. We got a lot to

(00:02):
discuss, and I'm here with myco pilot that's already veering the ship right
into an iceberg Zach with a kCome on, man, what you're doing
to me over there? Oh?You know, I'm just you know,
we're driving down the road and I'mjust yanking the wheel one way and then
another. So hey, when Iwas texting you yesterday about potentially running the
board, I said, Hey,you're either gonna sink or you're gonna swim,

(00:23):
but we're gonna be there for it. And oh yeah, we're bombing
up and down there you go.You're just staying afloat. You're going a
little up, you go a littledown. We're here though. Look,
we're running with it. Whatever happens. We're just we're figuring it out as
we go. Speaking of going upand down a little bit, I want
to transition none other than Jimmy Garoppolo. You know, hot take real quick.

(00:48):
Jimmy Garoppolo had the grace of playingwith one of the best offensive minds
in the NFL in NFL history. That made things just so easy for him.
Now that's not to say anybody couldhave walked into a Kyle Shanahan led
offense and just ran it. Butguys like C. J. Bethard,

(01:10):
we're playing above the means. Guyslike Jimmy Garoppolo that are pretty good players
all of a sudden become very goodplayers, are decent players. But nonetheless,
that's my little hot take for theday. Jimmy Garoppolo, who spent
his off season recovering from foot injuries, did in fact pass his training camp
physical and is expected to begin trainingcamp with his teammates. That was something

(01:34):
I know, maybe not come toa shock as you but there were stories
out there is he going to evenplay this year? They don't have much
of a backup, you know,is this a lost season for Jimmy?
What is he expected to do?When is he going to recover? So
this is actually very good news forthe Las Vegas Raiders. Oh yeah,
and if you remember when when JoeBurrow had his knee issue, I mean

(01:56):
we were projecting he was going tobe gone for two or three seasons.
He started that season. Yeah, absolutely, And I think that you know,
the Raiders have already decided that they'regoing to try and build this team
for Jimmy Garoppolo and that he's cominginto this and is going to be their
guy. And so it's great newsfor them because now they know they're ready
to go. Now, one ofthe things that he's not going to be

(02:20):
behind with this team because if youremember, he did start off as Tom
Brady's beautiful backup, so he hadJosh McDaniels experience. Now, obviously Josh
McDaniels is over here and Kyle Shanahan'sover there. You know, there's a
drastic change. But nonetheless, youknow you have the talent there. You
have a great running back, Youhave a solid backup tight end that now

(02:43):
rises to the starting tight end becauseyou got rid of your tight end traded
him to the Giants. You stillhave Davante Adams, you know, so
he has the pieces around there whereand I hate using the word game manager,
but he can do it enough towin you games. But that's not
what the Raiders have always come downto. It's always come down to what

(03:06):
can I get from the defense. It's always been what can I get from
the defense. Last year was soabysmal because it was either the run game
was going off or you were gettingmistakes from Derek Carr, who was learning
a new offense, who has doneit the same way, worked through many
different coaches. But the Bill Belichickway, which Josh McDaniels brings a little

(03:27):
bit of, is a complex offensethat is easy to learn but hard to
master. Yep. If you remember, quite a while ago, a guy
by the name of chad Ocho Sinklesigned with the Patriots. He had an
abysmal year with the Patriots. Andthat's not because he wasn't talented, but

(03:51):
because it's an easy system to learnbut very difficult to master. So I
think that Derek Carr didn't get thebenefit of the out. I think Josh
McDaniels went in there saying, listen, you know, either he's gonna flex
to how I want to play thespot, or I'm gonna find my guy.
And that's exactly what they did. They said, we can't fire Josh
McDaniels after one year, after wejust had to fire John Gruden after his

(04:15):
ten year, one hundred million dollarcontract. We're gonna float a boat.
We're gonna go with Josh McDaniels. We're gonna give him his guy. Now
it's his turn to drive and steerthis boat the right direction, you know,
to go with our theme of theshow, it's sink or swim,
it's you know. So you haveGaroppolo who's obviously he's going to know this
system, you know, and thefact of yeah, like you said,

(04:38):
it's easy to learn, hard tomaster. It's you're gonna have baseline success.
But can you capitalize on that successto make full on movements. Can
you start winning more than just acouple of games. Can you start progressing
in your division? Can you startgoing for the playoffs? Those are things
that can be developed, as we'veseen with the Patriots over a dynasty built

(04:59):
with whole team around that system.Going forward for the Raiders, now,
he does fall behind the line automaticallybecause you take a look at that division.
You got Kansas City, you gotthe Chargers, and I'm telling you
right now, the Broncos will notbe as bad as they were. Yes
last year. Last year was theperfect storm. Russell Wilson, Nathaniel Hackett,

(05:24):
and I don't think Nathaniel Hackett's abad coach. I just think it
was a bad ends of that point, though, I don't think you can
have much worse of a season thanthat was for the Broncos. It's kind
of it's kind of tough to doworse than awful in the NFL. It's
no longer what goes up must comedown. It's what goes down must come
up. Because we've seen so manyteams go from worse the first that it's

(05:48):
become natural. We have teams thatdo it all the time. You know
the Bengals, the one year theywent from one of the worst teams,
obviously Joe Barrow was out next seasonboom there first. Yeah, you know,
we see it all the time. There's so much parody in the league.
Not with every team, but witha lot of teams where you can
go first to worst real quickly. Not saying the Broncos are going to overtake

(06:12):
you know, the Chargers or eventhe Kansas City Chiefs, but better first
to worst, I mean and worstto first. You're looking at the Jets,
the Jets adding in Aaron Rodgers. That changes the whole dynamic of a
team that has been abysmal. Aftera bismol, after a bismo and all
of a sudden, there's this thisray of hope. Because the defense has
always been very strong. They've alwaysbeen being able to lock down. If

(06:34):
you can score a couple of touchdowns, people have been like, you can
win games, and when you wingames, you can start advancing in that
tough competitive division. And now theJets look like a better team than the
Patriots. You know, your brotherssaid it best. If Aaron Rodgers can
just manage to get two to threetouchdowns, have this offense score two to

(06:54):
three touchdowns with that defense, theycan win a lot of games. And
I didn't want to get onto theJets, but here we are talking about
the Jets. The thing I loveabout Aaron Rodgers He's showing us his face
in the media, smiling, He'senjoying the games. He's with his teammates.
Early, he was with him withOTAs, He's gonna be with him

(07:15):
in training camp. He loves thegame again. He looks reinvigorated, he
looks re energized. He looks likehe's ready to play another couple of years.
Yeah, which is something we hadn'tseen prior. He'd always looks so
down and out of it, andeveryone was just like, is he even
in the sport anymore? Is heeven gonna stick around? Is he gonna
finish the season. We were inthese like stressful contract talks. Is he

(07:38):
just gonna walk away? What's gonnaend up happening? And then the Packers
signed him, and everyone's even moreconfused because bes was around the time where
Rogers had stated, if the GMis here for the Packers, I'm not,
and then ended up playing a seasonthat didn't go their way and you
lose Davante Adams and he's like,I'm going to the Jets, and now
he's here, and it looks likea new team, a new Rogers,

(08:00):
and that's dangerous for that AFC East. What would you consider success for the
Jets for a team that hasn't madethe postseason? And let's say we can
count more than on twice our hands, both our hands, see. I
think right now the success is tojust try and get top two in that
division. I think you have tobecause it's gonna be tough to get above

(08:22):
everyone in that division. You've gotBuffalo, you've got Miami. You have
to try. I think to aimfor top two. I think that's your
goal. I don't know if that'ssuccess, but that's your goal. That's
your target point. Because I don'tthink you try and shoot for number one.
You're not sure if that's that's anattainable goal, but you can try
and strive for that number two slot, try and go for playoffs as much
as you can, because you don'tknow how much Rogers has in the tank

(08:46):
for how many years you're going tobe able to keep them, so you
have to shoot for trying to getas much immediate success as possible. I
think if they don't make the playoffs, it's failure. I think that that's
not out of the tousion. Itsounds like a low bar. But considering
it's the New York Jets and nopersonal shots taken at the New York Jets,
but considering how bad they were withSam Darnold and Zat Wilson and the

(09:11):
years of treachery where they haven't beenthat good since Mark Sanchez and Rex Ryan
days, Considering from there to hereat the bare minimum playoffs or bust,
which is going to be easier saidthan done. In an AFC where it's
completely loaded by the Bills, theBengals, the Ravens, the Jaguars,

(09:33):
the Chiefs, the Chargers, theRaders, the BRONC. There's teams,
the Dolphins, you know, there'sa lot of teams in there. Do
I think they can do it?Absolutely? Oh yeah, you know,
especially if Aaron Rodgers can stay healthy. Now, one thing that doesn't get
talked about enough is there was somedisconnect last year with Aaron Rodgers and his
receivers, but he also was dealingwith a thumb injury, and you could

(09:56):
tell on certain throws it was missmunication. On certain throws it was just
off target because he would be hammeringhimself home on those throws where I had
a guy I missed him. I'mnot going to use my thumb injury as
an excuse, And that actually gaveme more of a level of respect for
Rogers going into the season with theJets. As long as he can stay
healthy, he's got some weapons,he's got some familiar faces. I think

(10:20):
he's set up for success to atleast make the playoffs. Yeah. Absolutely,
and I think that that's a bigthing. I think our only concerns
for the Jets is going to bethe old line and if they're going to
be able to keep them healthy, because that's an old line that's had a
history of struggling. But you know, you just kind of have to rely
on your defense to be able tokeep points down and you to be able
just to drive the ball as muchas you can. Now real quickly,

(10:41):
I did want to talk about OBJbecause me and you discussed an off air
what do you think about OBJ andthe Ravens? And my big take on
it was Lamar Jackson. If yougo back to his rookie year in Harbaugh
there with Joe Flacco, they wereabysmal and it looked like Harbaugh was going
to lose his job. Now thatlooks asinine today, but back then it

(11:05):
looked like he was going to losehis job. Lamar Jackson gets in there,
he's running wild. They make thepostseason, they lose in the first
round. That's said and done. But they have a foundation to build on.
They have their coach, hard nosedcoach. They're going to continue to
build. I think that first seasonof success with Lamar Jackson running wild set

(11:28):
the precedent for where we are today, where under their at the time offensive
coordinator has never ranked in the toptwenty in pass attempts. Now, I
will provide the contacts saying that he'sgot had guys like Colin Kaepernick and Tyrod
Taylor, as his starting quarterbacks. But nonetheless, this is a passing lead.
Even when he had Lamar Jackson, this was never a top twenty pass

(11:52):
attempt other than the one year whereHuntley took over for Lamar Jackson due to
injury, where I think they rankedtowards the bottom level of the top twenties.
But still, nonetheless, this isan offense that needs to be exploded
and explored. You now have OBJ, who I don't think he's going to

(12:15):
be a complete shell of hisself.I don't think he's gonna be OBJ of
Giants, but I think he's gonnabe leaning towards the OBJ of the rams
where he's gonna get six catches, sixty seven yards and a touchdown. Yeah,
that's reasonable. Yeah, And Ithink that it's almost a borderline mental
game of the idea was Lamar Jackson. He's a running threat. But now

(12:35):
you have to make him a passingthreat. And the way you start that
is by giving him for a defense. Give threats that are gonna be good
receivers. Now, all of asudden, the pressure is going on the
receivers because, oh, these guyscan make great plays. These are playmakers
in the field, going deep passes, and now this gives even Lamar Jackson
more room to potentially become a dangerousrunning weapon, but now also some more

(12:56):
options when it comes to the throwgame that he didn't have prior. If
you have legit wide receivers in thatwide receiver room, I will even count
Nelson Aglore, who started on thePhiladelphia Eagles Super Bowl team that started just
a year ago with the Raiders. He started with the Patriots. He's been
a team player everywhere he's gone.So you consider those top five receivers,

(13:20):
even if you go down to fiveand four, those are still the best
receivers that Lamar's had in his entirecareer. And now he's got Mark Andrews,
who I still feel is underrated, even though people still include him in
the top five. I still feelhe's underrated because he should be up there.
It should be Dallas Godder, youknow, George Kittle, Travis Kelsey,

(13:41):
Mark Andrews. Those are my fourguys right there. Those are my
four guys. Everybody else slightly belowDarren Waller. Can he get back to
that level? You know, Ihave a lot of respect for him and
a lot of hope because the waythat he's overcome addiction, and he's gonna
wear number twelve on the field forthe twelve steps. I love the way
that he feels, the way hethinks, the way that he's overcome things.

(14:03):
But right now, those are mytop four guys right there, right
then and there. And then youhave Isaiah Likely, the backup tight end
who many expect to explode on thescene he did a little bit last year.
I expect more in the pass gamebecause Todd Munkin is a more pass
heavy offensive coordinat here. He's morein touch with today's NFL. So when

(14:26):
you talk to me about OBJ,no, I don't expect him to light
the world on fire because he's notOBJ of old. But I do expect
this to be a team where LamarJackson it's not out of the realm for
him to throw over four thousand yards. Yeah, and that's something that I
don't think we would have seen priorto OBJ coming into this team to a

(14:46):
new offense that now he's being morebuilt around a receiving corps instead of it
just being all right, Lamar,if you feel pressured, tuck and run
and now instead it's look at youroptions, find your weapons, and then
tuck and run. Absolutely absolutely,And I think that's one of the things
that Daniel Jones did so good withthe Giants last year is he wasn't trying

(15:07):
to force those passes. He decided, all right, I've been in the
pocket long enough, can't find anyone. I'm gonna tuck and run it.
And that's one of the things Ido respect about Daniel Jones. And we'll
cut down on the turnovers of holdingonto the ball too long, getting strip
sacked. Is he tucked it,he ran with it, Lamar Jackson,
I'm gonna give you the same freedom. I'm gonna let you start calling plays
at the line. I'm gonna letyour mind get inside of the game.

(15:31):
I'm not gonna tell you what todo anymore. I want you to decipher.
Now, there's gonna be some growingpains, but you're gonna be able
to decipher at the line, whatplay you want to audible to, what
play you want to design, whereyou want to go with the ball.
Now, there's gonna be hot reads. Like any good offense, there's gonna
be hot reads. But I'm gonnalet you decide when it's time to tuck
and run, When it's time tochange to an audible and that freedom is

(15:54):
going to open up Lamar's game whereI really, really, really think that
four thousand yards passing is very obtainablefor Lamar Jackson. I think this is
the year where people recognize, Hey, Lamar Jackson can pass the ball.
Holy cow, where's he been allthese years? And that's just my take
on Lamar Jackson. Absolutely, andI think that that's the take for the

(16:15):
Baltimore Orioles Ravens. Get my Baltimoremixed up, and I think that's the
take for the Ravens offense going intothis season is the fact of they've always
been dangerous due to Lamar Jackson, but now they're a full on threat in
a diverse set of ways. Nowif they're down fourteen points, you're not
nervous of how bad are they gonnalose? It's hey, they have the

(16:36):
ability to come back. And yousaw a little bit of it last year
with Lamar Jackson. You know,a couple of games come to mind where
he's come back from like twenty downand stuff. But I think it's gonna
be more common where, hey,I don't feel odd of it when I'm
down two scores because that's how itused to feel because with their offensive coordinator
before was a run heavy offensive mind. So once you got down fourteen,

(16:57):
it completely threw him. He didn'tadjust, he didn't do anything to the
game plan. They said, let'sjust play the cards we have at hand.
Let the best team win. Oldstyle football. That's not the case.
Yeah, Now you're getting Delta newhand. Now you've got more weapons
and more options, And that's thewhole point off It diversifies the offense to
not just make Lamar or Jackson thesole target for the defense. Now all

(17:18):
of a sudden, you're not justkeying the run game the whole time.
You're actually keying in on those receiversthat are now a very vital weapon for
this Ravens offense. And I thinkyou brought up the Baltimorerials because both teams
were able to retool and now yousee a different team. You're going to
see a different Ravens team. Yousee a different Orioles team. Who would
have ever thought that they'd be leadingthe division? This laid into the season,

(17:41):
But here we are, here weare. So I think that was
a good take that you brought upthe Orioles, because I think that does
kind of go hand in hand. They both retooled, they both rebuilt,
and now they're both progressing towards theway the game was meant to be played.
