Speaker 1 (00:00):
Yes, there's a little town called sigurd c s I
g U r D I am. I am literally about
as in the middle of nowhere as I can get,
I think. I mean, it's very picturesque nowhere. But yeah,
but I've got the thanks to Elon Musk and Starlink,
I am able to join you, Rod and you folks.
I can. I think it's like real time. It's like
(00:22):
it's like I'm right there in the studio.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
So you like have a small satellite dish mounted on
the roof of your car? Is that correct?
Speaker 1 (00:28):
I do? I have it on the rus. I can't drive.
I'm not going to drive and do radio at the
same time, so I'm parked. But no, Yeah, it's a
it works like a charm. I got full bars and
I can see you the videos monitors up. I can so.
I yeah, it's we're cooking with gas. That's what we're doing.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Modern technology. Isn't it absolutely amazing?
Speaker 1 (00:50):
Yep. I'm I'm not mad at Elon. I know Elon
and the President are kind of salty with each other,
but I love Elon and I personally thank him for Starlink.
I think this is a great little thing. He's come
up with just beautiful.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
A lot of people buy him just for their home
use for crying out loud anymore. Greg, it's pretty it's
pretty amazing.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
All right.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
We have got a great show coming up today. We
tried to do that each and every day, and I
think for the most part, Greg, we succeed somewhat. Wouldn't
you agree, are you?
Speaker 1 (01:16):
Yeah? I don't want to brag on ourselves, but yeah,
I think we're I gatling gun of truth bombs and
deciphering the day's events. I think, yeah, I think we're
we're on our game.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Well, we've got a lot to talk about today. All
the economists, Greg keep on getting proving wrong each and
every day. A new report and producer price index today
showing prices or holding steady. Remember what was it Beck?
And when did he announce the tariff war? And everyone, oh, no,
we'll have inflation. The sky is falling. Every economic report
(01:49):
has been coming out looking very, very good. And Steve
Moore will be joining us. Steve, I would imagine Greg
has a few things to say about that, for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
He does. He's an economist extraordinary, he is. He counsels
the president wisely. He is also part of the rich states,
poor states with Arthur Laugher encouraging smart fiscal policies, tax
policy for each state, and he does a great job.
He's been a thought leader in terms of supply side
(02:20):
economics for a long long time. I knew Steve before
I made it big by being a Rod's co host.
I knew him as a lawmaker back in the day.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Steve's a good guy. We've had him on the show
for years. Our good friend Kirch Schlickter has a brand
new book ount today is called American Apocalypse. Kurtive will
be joining us coming up with It's a fiction.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
But it's getting a little eerie. It's a fiction that
just came out, but it's starting to feel like it's
like maybe a harbinger of a bad harbinger of things
to come. I don't know, we'll have to ask you.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
It's a little scary, all right. We are going to
get to the bottom. Greg also in the show today.
That's why we invite you to keep on listening as
to what happened in Utah County yesterday with this huge
turnout before the County Commission on this agreement between the
Sheriff's Department and Ice agents. A member of the Commission
will be joining us. Greg, You've been talking to the
sheriffs about this today. What are they saying about this?
Speaker 1 (03:15):
It was the meeting was, well, you know, these sheriffs,
they're they're, they're, they're, they're a gritty group. I can't
really share with you verbatim what the good sheriff shared
with me, but uh to say that it was a
bit of a spectacle or a bit of a a show.
It was. But I gotta tell you, the left is
(03:36):
good at this. This is this is an organic grassroots
This is astro turf. This is rent a riot. This
is you know, all the people that flooded at Utah,
we know Utah County. They are not against federal enforcement
of immigration laws in Utah County. They certainly are not.
But you would think from the crowd that packed the
place and how mad they all seem to be. I mean,
(03:57):
I don't if any of those people even lived in
Utah County, I'd shock. But anyway, yes, he he's Sheriff
Smith as well as all the sheriffs that I spoke
with today, are anxious to work with Ice. They can
be partners. They're not going to go out and search
for people like ICE is going to do. But there's
a lot that can be done rod where when someone's
(04:19):
arrested for anything, you can check their immigration status and
if they if they deputize deputy sheriffs to do this,
they can if they look at there and realize that
they're not legal residents, they can actually place the warrant
and inform ICE and really skip some steps that not skip,
but go through some steps that make the process happen
(04:41):
a lot faster in terms of removing and deporting those
that shouldn't be here.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
You know, I was a little confused because you and
I were watching a bit of that hearing last night
down in Utah County, watching the live feet of it, Greg,
and I swear I thought I was in Marin County, California.
I mean, talking to those people talk about liberal Oh,
so what are we gonna do? You know, come on
and we'll talk of the member of the Commission about that.
So we've got a lot to get to to Greg today.
(05:07):
Greg and as always eight eight eight five seven O
eight zero one zerold the number to call if you
want to be a part of the program dial pound
two fifty, or you can chat with us on our
talk back line as well. We get into more of
that coming up as well. I want to start off
the show today greg I mentioned it is I finally
have something in common with the President of the United States.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
You both know me? Yeah, you got it?
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Yeah, that's oh, that's that's well, that's one of the Okay,
I have two things in common. Does he know you?
Does he know you?
Speaker 4 (05:39):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (05:39):
He called me the original? Keep up, I'm the original. Yeah,
he called me the original.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
Yeah, yeah, okay, well, yeah, it was learned today that
it was learned today that the president, and this is
dominating some of the news discussion this afternoon, the President
underwent vascular testing after he'd had swelling his in his legs.
The results were normal. Everything is okay, but that's some
new news today. And I suffered the same thing. I
(06:05):
think they call it venus insufficiency. Insufficiency, and what it
means is the blood from your heart goes down to
your legs. You know, it pumps back and forth. But
some of the veins, as you get a little older,
I know, you want to rub it in, don't you.
Instead of opening and closing, they flutter a little bit,
so that allows the blood to accumulate in your lower
(06:27):
legs and your ankles. It does in the President's hands
as well. So that's what's going on today. I love this. Greg.
The White House was very forthright in explaining this, talking
about this so unlike what happened under the Biden administration.
Pretty amazing.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
You know what, folks, you know what I call it?
I call it cankles.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
I call it most people most people do.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
Yeah, look pretty similar to me. It looks like I
would just call below the knee rod has cankles. That's all.
That's all, and that's it's no judgment, no judgment that
that's that's kind of if you were to imagine what
you just described medically, that's what I see, Well, cankles.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
Most people as they get older, this happens quite often.
So I'll admit, yes, it does happen. But I had
I had a minor procedure, what Greg, about a year ago?
Now was it about this time? Somewhere around here? A
little bit later, not quite a year, not quite a year,
and I went to a Vein center with Inner Mountain
Health and they took care of it. The legs are
much better, the ankles a little swollen occasionally, but for
(07:27):
the most part, they aren't quite cankles all the time,
even though you like.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
To refer to them.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
But the president has them so.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Well, now it's cool now you can. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
See, I'm like the president. I don't have his income.
More people know him than they know me. But other
than that, we're you know, we're buds when it comes
to our cankles.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
Yes, you both have cankles, apparently breaking news. See, you
learn all kinds of things on the Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
You never know. Well, wait, like I said, we've got
a great, great show today coming up. Steve Moore will
join us, and Clerkshire Kurt Schlechter will be joining us
this hour. It is the Rotting Greg Show right here
on Utah's Talk Radio one O five nine KNRN. All right,
let's talk about the economy. Greg. It's funny economists. They
just keep on missing things. They're all predicting that the
(08:13):
economy is going to fail, the tariffs are going to
drive prices up, and nothing is happening. It seems like
the economy right now is just humming right along. Greg.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
Well, I just think it's a it's a tell. I
think all the economists are leftists. I mean, it's like
the Federal Reserve where ninety two percent of the people
that work at the Federal Reserve, or ninety two percent
of them were giving the Democrats. And remember inflation was transitory.
Nothing to see here, folks, everything's fine. Yeah, And you
know they wouldn't touch rates when the inflation was so high.
(08:43):
The whole world has lowered rates multiple times over and
over again, and we have got this partisan Fed Reserve
chair who won't touch our interest rates. And it does
impact people, impacts budgets, family budgets, affordability for homes, our
national debt. There they're dug in. And so to me,
whether it's the Fed chair or these economists from these
(09:06):
institutions of higher learning, all news economically must be bad
for Trump. Yeah, it has to be. And when it's
proven to be wrong, they say, nothing to see here, folks.
Let's move along.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Yeah, As Steve Moore is joining Steve of course economists,
co founder of Unleashed Prosperity, former topic on how I
could advise they're to President Trump during his first team term. Steve,
great to have you back on the show. Is always
what do you make of these numbers?
Speaker 4 (09:30):
Right now?
Speaker 2 (09:30):
Things are looking pretty good, Steve.
Speaker 5 (09:32):
They are good numbers, and you know, it's I find
it because you know, we got this number of inflation
that was two point seven percent. Oh my god, you
know in the media is going crazy and all the
number pets. Oh look, Trump said, he who's going to
get rid of in placent we're two point seven These
are the same two point seven The average inflation rate
under Biden's four years was six percent, and it went
(09:54):
aside as nine point two percent. Now, all of a sudden,
they're concerned about two point seven percent in plation, which is,
you know, slightly over where we want it. We want
it to be between two and two and a half percent,
and so we're slightly higher. But it's a good number.
It's a big improvement. Inflation is coming down, which is
a great sign. And what's more important is that, you
know they report the two point seven percent inflation number.
(10:16):
They didn't report is that real wages and salaries over
the same year are up three and a half percent. Now,
in other words, people are doing better or not worse,
and that's a complete reversal. By then, you've got a
stock market that's doing really well.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
You've got the.
Speaker 5 (10:31):
Job market looks very healthy and people are confident again
because we've got that tax bill done. So all in all,
this is a very good news story. And I tend
to be quite bullish right now.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
You know, Steve, I'm out in rural Utah as we speak.
I'm out on location. I have it from direct source
that rural Utahns are not upset about the federal government funding.
PBS and NPR were hanging waiting with dated breath and
were walking in the walls unless they had their NPR
and PBS turns out to be a falsehood. So my
(11:09):
question is nine point four billion dollars out of seven
trillion dollar budgets and thirty six trillion dollar debt? Or
should we be happy? Should we be should we just
be getting ready for more? What? What's where? Where do
you see this right now?
Speaker 5 (11:23):
Well, a couple of things. I mean, I want to
tell you that I'm in Indianapolis right now for the
ALEC annual conference, which we were.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
We taught you would be here.
Speaker 5 (11:31):
I don't know you used to come to these all
the time, but you know you were the last person
I wanted to talk to because once again, Utah comes
out number one in the ratings, and we're getting all
sick of that that every year. Utah, Utah, Utah. And
you know, the most arrogant politicians from Utah, they said,
they go around with the you know, celebrating anyway, Congratulations Utah,
you're number one economic growth state once again for the
(11:53):
sixteenth straight year. Now this is a big victory.
Speaker 6 (11:57):
You know.
Speaker 5 (11:58):
Look on the one hand, you know, look, nine billion
dollars out of a seven trillion dollar budget. That's like
you know, saying, gosh, I got a ten thousand dollars debt,
I'd better start paying it down. I'm going to pay
it down five fifty.
Speaker 4 (12:10):
Cents a year, you know.
Speaker 5 (12:11):
Okay, that's not gonna take a long time to pay
that that down. But this is the first time, think
about this, guys. This is the first time, practically in
my lifetime, we actually got rid of a government program.
We got the rid of three government programs CPD, the
Corporation for Book Broadcasting MPR, and U and the USA
i D all three of them, which are complete waste
(12:32):
of money. And by the way, there are probably a
lot of people who are listening to this radio show
who said, well, I like some you know, some of
the MPR programs, and I like some of the stuff
on the you know, Corporation for Public Broadcasting TV MISS
you know, a mystery theater and stuff like that, and
you know I do too. But you know what, if
you like it, paid for it, why should the taxpayers
have to pay for that? And all they have to
do is have a few more of these you know telethons,
(12:57):
you know, right, if you like it, paid for it,
and the idea that Now, look, you know, Mitch McConnell
voted no on this. I'm kind of mad at him,
but he's a big fan of Sesame Street.
Speaker 4 (13:11):
Steve.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
Yeah, Steve, let's get into this this thing with Jerome
Powell in the President's youake your mom.
Speaker 5 (13:18):
But your much money. Sesame Street makes no billions. I mean,
Elmo is one of the richest guys in America.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
I grew up on Sesame Street. I love that. Again,
you can and pay for It's.
Speaker 5 (13:33):
My point is it's a money maker, So why do
they need money from the taxpayer?
Speaker 2 (13:37):
That's for sure. That's for sure, Steve. All right, now
let's talk about Jerome Powell and what's going on between
him and the President. What do you think? What are
your thoughts on this, Steve, Well.
Speaker 5 (13:46):
They don't like each other.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
Let's start with that.
Speaker 5 (13:52):
There, you go, Yeah, sit them down and maybe they'll
get along. But you know, I have to say that
Jerome Powell has been the most political, uh you know,
FED director we've probably ever had. He hates Trump. Trump
hates him every time I see the president. He's Steve.
I never have put you know, Jeron Poull mat that
was a terrible decision. Yes, mister president, that was a
bad decision, you know, but uh, you know, he is uh,
(14:15):
he's got to go. He's been He's the one who
gave us nine percent inflation back in twenty twenty one.
He uh has been overtly political. You are you guys
following the story of a.
Speaker 4 (14:26):
Two and a half.
Speaker 5 (14:27):
Billion billion dollar relevation of the FED building, Come on,
I didn't say two and a half million. Two and
a half billion. They're putting in waterfalls and water fountains
and marvel tables, and I'm like, come on, you know,
you's the brand and the money gutters. Yeah, unbelievable. So
for that alone, he should be fired.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
Yeah. So I I I absolutely agree. Granite sidewalks, granite
curbs and gutters. I mean granted, I mean, I just
I can't believe what they're doing with that kind of money.
Let me ask you this real quick on on the
on the the Social Security you know, or Medicaid, all
of the things that we're talking about. You know, the
lie is all these kids are going to all these
people are going to die. U remind our listeners, this
(15:13):
is exactly.
Speaker 5 (15:14):
Got I hate to tell you something. Yeah, it is true.
We all at some point, we are all going to die.
Speaker 4 (15:20):
I hate to tell you that, you know, no, no, down.
Speaker 5 (15:28):
But you know what's really funny is they said when
we cut PBS, that is going to die because of that.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
Yeah, well I makes up. I actually think that might
have more weight than the Medicaid. Medicaid why, I guess,
just reforming it. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (15:48):
And here's the thing. This is the government's own auditors
that tell us one hundred and fifty billion with a
B was solen last year by frausterers from the Medicaid program.
Another three hundred billion dollars was uh was stolen from
other you know, federal grant programs and distribution programs. That's
almost a half a trillion dollars that's stolen nobody does
(16:10):
anything about it. Medicaid has more fraud, the hospitals, the doctors,
the patients that everybody rips off the program. And now
we're trying to, you know, get rid of the fraud.
Oh my god, people are going to die in the streets.
I mean, coming on, any business would be out of
business if they had that kind of fraud.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
Rate e kind of and Steve Moore joining us on
our Any Hour Newsmaker line. Greg and a little bit
later on, I mean, are what's your reaction to how
the left is freaking out over this cutting of Monday
for public broadcasting. I mean, they are going there, they're
going crazy over this today.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
Greg, Well, they are, and it's it's such hypocrisy, which
I guess we shouldn't surprise us. But they used to
say for a long time, you know, the federal money
doesn't represent close to our budget. It's it's something that
we take in, but it's it's we're not we're not
dependent on it. And then when it was getting cut,
you would think that they're, you know, they're gonna have
to pink slip everybody because they're getting their federal mic.
(17:04):
So pick a path. You're either flush with cash, and
you got a lot of donations, people contributing, big birds
making a lot of money over there a Sesame Street
or you're on the public dole. Yeah, big kirch one
you want to be. But they like to say they're both.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
They sure do all right. When we come back, our
good friend Kurk Schlichter has a brand new book out today.
He'll tell us all about it. That's coming up on
the Rod and Greg Show and Talk Radio one O
five nine knrs.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
I hate to even admit this. It feels very emasculating
to admit this. Kirk Schlichter has got to be one
of the coolest guys that I follow. This guy was
in the military. This guy is an attorney, he is
an author, he is a he's an influencer. What doesn't
this guy do? And he just his takes online on
this X feed that I read. I just I laugh
(17:51):
out loud wherever I'm at. I love this guy.
Speaker 2 (17:53):
So is there a bromance brewing here?
Speaker 1 (17:57):
I swear that we would be the best of friends.
If you live near we would be total bros. I
know this, I know it.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
Curt.
Speaker 4 (18:04):
Are you taking this all in?
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Are you taking this all in? Kurt.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
Well, I'm not saying I'm not curious, but I'm also
a little uncomfortable.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
You should be, Kurt. You've got a brand new You've
got a brand new book out today, Kurt called American Apocalypse.
What's up, man?
Speaker 1 (18:24):
It's a new novel.
Speaker 3 (18:25):
It is about what happens if everything completely goes to
hell and we actually have a civil war.
Speaker 5 (18:31):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
It is Uh, it's it's a tough book. There's some
funny stuff in it because it's me. Uh, but it's
along the lines of my last one, The Attack. It
is not related to my Kelly Turnbull series of conservative
action novels, but it's it's a good one and it is.
I think it's the number one military thriller on Amazon.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
Well, Kurt, this book that you've put together, why did
you decide to do that? I mean, what were you
trying and hoping to do? Kurt? Hello, Gert, have we
got you there?
Speaker 3 (19:05):
Conflict as opposed to the Constitution, which is what you know?
You know, it provide you know, for two hundred and
fifty years almost except with some like unpleasantness in the
eighteen sixties. It has allowed us to function as a republic.
And I see more and more people becoming alienated to
(19:30):
the constitution because they're not getting what they want. The
left is seeking power at all costs. It considers people
like us illegitimate. We have no right to govern ourselves.
We should shut up, pay taxes and submit.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
And I don't think that's going to happen.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
The rest of us are learning. Hey, the rules and
norms that we in processes that we thought govern everything,
they seem to have been thrown out the window. When
you throw out the window, processes, norms, procedures, rules, customs
to guide a country, to govern a country. What's left
is power, and when power rules, it gets ugly. I
(20:12):
know I served over in Kosovo in the ruins of
their civil war.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
Kurt, you wrote today in town Hall, can we get
out of this without a civil war? I mean, is
it that scary? Looking?
Speaker 3 (20:25):
It's scary, but it isn't a done deal. I'm always optimistic.
I'm optimistic that we can come to our senses as
a society, particularly on the left, because the left is
where the problem is, and decide, no, we're going to
accept a a We're going to embrace a civil society
(20:46):
where everybody's rights are respected, their property is respected. Everyone
has the right to say and think what they want,
and they have a say in government. Doesn't mean they'll
always win, but they get to be heard through the
proper processes, and when they go to court, they and
equal to everybody else, and the judge fairly applies the law.
That's option one. But there are three options. Option two
(21:09):
is a leftist dictatorship. Option three is a right wing
authoritarian government. I want option one. I can live with
option three. Option two. Nah, that's when we fight, Kurt.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
Let me ask you a question. I this this it's
strange when you write a book of fiction and it's
starting to look eerily like maybe a Harbinger, and it says,
I know that's got to be surreal as this book
is coming out. But let me ask you a question,
because you you say in your column that this could
be ugly if they were to ever actually happen. I
don't know, man. They look like pink hair, blue hair.
(21:47):
They look a little weak to me. I think the
Red States are going to roll right over those Blue states.
I don't think they've known a tough day. What am
I missing?
Speaker 3 (21:54):
Well, well, you guys, you guys all saw gone with.
Speaker 4 (21:57):
A win just like I can.
Speaker 3 (21:59):
And you remember at the beginning, the Southerners were very,
very excited that they were going to get to go
to a civil war and is very upset because she
would much rather be a picnic. And then it turned
into a nightmare. This is not something we want to think. Hey,
this is going to be easiest. It's going to be simple.
(22:21):
When a country collapse, if there was a civil conflict,
the country's infrastructure would collapse. That means the food system,
the money system, the medical systems, all the systems that
keep us alive. Suddenly, people aren't worried about their image
on Twitter, you know, their Instagram vibe. They're worried about
(22:41):
getting fifteen hundred calories a day, because if you don't
yet die of starvation.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
Kurt, you talk about democracy, I mean it is a
word that's kicked around all the time. Apparently democracy is
not ours, it's theirs, right, I mean, we don't have democracy,
but they do.
Speaker 4 (22:58):
No, that's absolutely true.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
Again, the Democrats believe that we are bad people. They
believe that we are morally and mentally unfit to participate
in our own governance. And you know this is why
they're so utterly offended that Donald Trump has come along
and done so much in the last six months. You know,
at one time it would have been all right, well,
(23:21):
we lost the election. We got to figure out a
way to come back and present policies the American people
that are going to embrace. But that's not what they're
doing now. What they're saying now is essentially Donald Trump,
who's a literal.
Speaker 5 (23:33):
BOXI, according to them.
Speaker 3 (23:37):
Has absolutely no right to govern though he won the election.
You know, if their proposal is the fifty percent of
us or so who supported Donald Trump don't get to
participate in our own government, that is an offer that
I am not going to accept, and the American people aren't.
(23:59):
And one of the problems so many of the Democrats
are so off in their own bubble. They don't know
normal Americans. They don't understand that normal Americans are simply
not going to live with that.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
You know, Kurt, My my question is, uh, it's all
fun and games when Uh? When when when you can
worry about your social media image? But if things got
as rough as you described, Uh, does that does it
take the wind out of their sale? Because what I realized,
what I see is anytime you create chaos and this
works against us right now. If you want to do
(24:32):
a Tesla takedown, if you want to create riots against
our ice agents, people just recoil. They don't want the chaos,
they don't want the You would think they'd be mad
at those that are committing political violence, but they actually
Trump's numbers go down in terms of how he's handling
the illegal immigration uh his policy. It seems to me
that when they raise the misery index, human beings seem
(24:54):
to recoil and try to seek normalcy. Uh what would
I mean? Does that ever work in our or only
just against us?
Speaker 3 (25:02):
Well, look, I I don't I think there is a
a general agreement among people about you know, we want
law and order, we want economic prosperity. The problem is
that they aren't what the Democrats are after. The Democrats
are after power, and if those things come along with it, fine,
and if there are.
Speaker 4 (25:22):
Tools to use to gain.
Speaker 3 (25:24):
Power, uh, that is also fine too. They they simply
don't care. I don't think the American people are going
to simply roll over, shrug and say, well, this whole
idea of us being uh you know, empowered citizens was a.
Speaker 4 (25:42):
Was a nice idea.
Speaker 3 (25:43):
But I guess it hasn't worked out because it's hard. Uh.
I just I don't think a lot of these guys
have met real Americans. And that's that's a problem because
when you you know, you constantly see online, you know,
leftists telling you how the conservatives are, well, the conservatives
want to get rid of NPR because they hate literacy
(26:06):
and information. Okay, okay, that's not our argument. You don't
understand us. You're fighting an enemy you don't understand. Now,
we understand the laft very well because we're exposed to
them through the media all the time. If we don't,
you know, actually live with them, and I do. I'm
in Los Angeles. The damn Commis are everywhere and I
(26:28):
hear falt Lake City.
Speaker 4 (26:30):
We're getting that. Weah.
Speaker 3 (26:32):
So the problem is when you don't understand your opponent,
you make mistakes, and a series of mistakes can lead
to things getting out of control, where acrimony and anger
turns into violence and then it spins out of control.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
Well, we certainly don't want that. Kurt has always great
to have me on the show, and good luck with
the new book. Thanks Kurt, good luck, thank you very much.
All right, kurch Lickter, he is a Cdrew columist. Also
has got a brand new account called American Apocalypse. The
Second American Civil War is out today. All right, more
coming up on the Rodd and Greg Show in Utah's
Talk Radio one O five nine knrs.
Speaker 1 (27:10):
Look. I love our audience so much. Honestly, I love
when we have our call ins. I love the takes.
I love people when they look at you know, they're
looking at things. I love when they pick my opinion
over yours. I always love that. Now we're doing that.
We were just interviewing Kurt Schlichter, and I just saw
a great couple just roll right up next to me
and say hi. They knew exactly what I was doing.
They said Hi. If they come back and it's a commercial,
(27:33):
I'll give them a rotten Greg hats. I got them
actually in this car. I'd give them Rod and Greg
hats that they're still listening, because that was really nice.
It means you're not alone our audience, Rod, They're omnipresent.
It's a very comforting feeling.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
They're everywhere. They're everywhere on the iHeart Radio app. And
that's the value of the iHeart Radio app. That's why
you need to download it today. Great story, Greg, great story.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
Hey.
Speaker 2 (27:54):
By the way, you know Portland, Portland's gone kind of dinghy, right,
I mean, poor people up in Portland dealing with all
these ANTIFA people in the constant protests that seem to
be taking place every day and every night. Well, apparently
last night in Portland, a group of protesters showed up
at a federal ice facility up there, right, and they
started chanting. But then all of a sudden, Greg, they
(28:15):
heard this weird voice and wondered, what is going on.
Lit'st to this, Greg, This is the Federal Protective Service.
Speaker 7 (28:33):
The facility is closed and not open to the public
to allow for regular traffic remain on the side one
across the street. Everyone must be.
Speaker 2 (28:45):
This restricted area.
Speaker 7 (28:48):
Attention or rest for failing to depart the restricted area.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
By the way, that was not Donald Trump. I somehow
found an Trump impersonator up there in Portland and he
recorded this. But I tell you what, Greg, that sounded
exactly like Donald Trump sounds.
Speaker 1 (29:07):
Protest talk about a perfect way to take Trump derangement
syndrome and harness it for your for good. Thank his
voice telling them to leave the area and watch them
all just melt down. What a what a brilliant idea.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
That was good. All right. Our number two of the
Rod and Greg Show coming up, has Utah County turned
into Marin County. We'll talk about that coming up. Our
number two in the Rod and Greg Show. Stay with us.
Speaker 1 (29:39):
Well, it's a beautiful little town. It's a small town,
but we have listeners. Rod, we have Rod and Greg
Show listeners here, and they came by said hi, and
I feel like, you know, no matter how far away
I am our listeners, I am surrounded by friends. So
that was nice. I'm very touched by that.
Speaker 4 (29:55):
I love it all right.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
Oh, by the way, we were talking earlier with Steve
Moore about the economy today, right, and all the numbers
they're looking good. Guess what happened today on Wall Street?
Speaker 1 (30:05):
What?
Speaker 2 (30:05):
Another record? Another day, another record on Wall Street today?
Speaker 1 (30:10):
So is there anyone keeping track of how these economists
get it wrong every single time?
Speaker 2 (30:15):
No?
Speaker 1 (30:15):
I mean they were always bullish about Biden's economy when
it wasn't and now they're always bearish about Trump's economy,
which it's not. I mean, they're just they're just on
the wrong side every time. Yeah, Yeah, it's maybe I
don't know. What an economist is. Maybe it's you know,
maybe it's someone that gets things wrong a lot, maybeout
the economy. Maybe that's the definition.
Speaker 2 (30:35):
Maybe that's how we define it. Well, there was a story,
Greg that I think both you and I were confused about. Yesterday,
We're hearing this story coming out of Utah County. Now,
Utah County considered one of the most conservative counties and
all of the land. You would think they would be
supportive of what the President is trying to do when
it comes to immigration. But it sure didn't appear that
(30:55):
way yesterday, did it, Greg.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
No, it's it was a runner riot. I don't know
what it was. But that's not Utah County that I mean,
that's not crash roots, that's astro turf. That's I don't know.
I just I feel sorry for any three hours, two
minutes apiece that you get two minutes to just go off,
And they went three straight solid hours of people saying
that they did not want federal law enforcement to, I guess,
(31:21):
to enforce immigration laws. It's, of all places, Utah County.
I think the fix is in.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
Well, let's check in with a member of the Utah
County Commission who voted in favor of this agreement between
Ice and the Sheriff's Offense Commissioner. Amelia Powers Gardner, Amelia,
how are you welcome back to the Rod and Greg show?
Speaker 6 (31:40):
Well, I'm doing better now, but you corrected that it's Thursday,
and I don't have to relive Wednesday over again.
Speaker 5 (31:45):
I got.
Speaker 6 (31:45):
I was stared there for a minute.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
Rod, Amelia, I'm concerned that Utah County has become Marin County.
What on earth went on down there yesterday?
Speaker 3 (31:56):
Well?
Speaker 6 (31:56):
I do have to correct Greg, but he probably saw
the headline that said three hours. That headline came out
when it had only been three hours.
Speaker 8 (32:03):
We were there for.
Speaker 6 (32:04):
Five hours yesterday, and I think nailed Yeah.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
Well what happened right? What happened yesterday? What was going on?
Speaker 6 (32:17):
Okay, so I think you nailed it when you said
the astro turp.
Speaker 5 (32:20):
This was.
Speaker 6 (32:21):
Here's the thing. The people in the meeting, many of
them were truly concerned citizens and had the things they
had been told been true. I understand why they were
so upset, but this was there were two organizations, very organized,
spreading misinformation, scaring individuals and having those people show up.
(32:43):
They were being told that we were authorizing ICE to
come into the county, round up children in schools and
round up people going to work and parents and separating families.
I mean the things that we even saw a Facebook
post where someone said we were signing in a agreement
with the Health Department and ICE and we were going
to target people with illnesses. I mean, it was It
(33:07):
was crazy. But unfortunately a lot of these people's angst
and fear that came across in the meeting was just
not warranted. This really is a simple agreement that allows
our Major Crimes Task Force. We're talking cartels, homicides, drugs,
human trafficking, rape, horrible things. The Major Crimes Task Force
(33:32):
has an agreement with ICE now where they can access
ICE databases. ICE will not be accessing Utah County databases.
This is a one way agreement where we access their
databases so they can see if the people they are
investigating are in this country illegally.
Speaker 1 (33:51):
Chmishier, sorry, can you hear me, Kimischer? Chmishier, Let me
ask you that you are you know you're roots and
any public servant knows their constituencies. You know that you
know your opinion leaders, you know the people are there
in a five hour meeting. Did you see any of
your constituents that you have interacted with for years and
(34:12):
years and years in the in the county building or
was or was this just people that you'd not seen
it at any kind of town hall meeting, political convention,
or whatnot.
Speaker 6 (34:27):
Of the probably three hundred plus people, I recognized two.
Speaker 1 (34:32):
That's that's two more than I thought. But that's about right.
Speaker 4 (34:38):
Sure, let me ask there were two.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
Let me ask you to make sure. How do you
think this agreement or will it make Utah County safer?
Because of this agreement between the sheriffs and Ice? Now,
how does it improve safety?
Speaker 6 (34:53):
I think it improved safety in a couple of ways
right now. Prior to this, we had no no agreement
with ICE, and so ICE would come into our county
and execute operations. We didn't invite ICE in. They're here,
they're a federal agency, but we had no clue where
they were doing operations, how they were doing operations, what
(35:14):
the product or end result of any of those operations were.
And so this now gives our sheriff, Mike Smith, the
ability to work with Ice and say where are you,
what are you doing, and what are the results of
that that helps our law enforcement coordinate, which is going
to make it more safe when it comes to the
(35:36):
training that our officers will receive. The only officers that
will receive the ICE training are the Major Crimes pass
Force and it will help them do their job getting
these of the most dangerous criminals off the street. And
then on top of that, for anyone who is concerned
that an innocent person would pick up or that ICE
might target non criminals, this agreement actually helps us ensure
(35:59):
that ICE is to the best of our ability, that
ICE is providing interpreters for people that don't speak English,
that they're giving them a chance to produce documents that
they have them. One of the issues we had is
that when when somebody ends up in our jails, we
don't know if they're in the process of getting citizenship.
We don't know what that status is. And we actually
will be able to work with folks now and help
(36:20):
them get the help that they need.
Speaker 5 (36:23):
Yeah, you know, I think.
Speaker 1 (36:25):
You know this, Commissioner, but you know your county is
not alone. All the county most of the counties in
Utah are looking to partner with and be look county
sheriffs they work with the US Marshals, they work with
the DEA, they work with the FBI, they work with
the federal law enforcement agencies. Always have these agreements that
are being signed right now, are putting making sure that
(36:47):
the left hand is what the right hand's doing. So
you have county sheriffs, duly elected county sheriffs in Utah
throughout the state that are doing the same thing and
throughout the country, without regard to political party, County sheriffs,
elected sheriffs, County sheriffs across this country are looking for
those pathways to make sure that they are on the
same page with Ice, that they're working together as they
(37:08):
do with other federal agencies. Did you get was that
understood by the or I don't know that the crowd
that came to see you yesterday even wanted to understand that.
Did any of them understand that this isn't actually out
of the norm and that this is being embraced by
law enforcement everywhere to have that a stronger relationship.
Speaker 6 (37:26):
I don't think they even wanted to understand. Sheriff Smith
was incredibly transparent, and I have to tell you I
have been really impressed with our Utah sheriffs, our Utah
sheriffs didn't just you know, most of them are Trump supporters,
but they didn't just say, hey, the Trump administration wants
you to find this. And they say, okay. Now, they
flew to DC, they met with ICE headquarters. They said,
(37:47):
your boiler plate agreement does not work for Utah. We
want we want a different agreement that it's more transparent,
that gives us the ability to work with you, that
has more you know, compassion. And at first I told
them no, and our sheriffs stood up and walked out
and said find them. We won't sign your agreements. It
wasn't until they got called back to the White House
(38:07):
and the White House said why won't you sign the agreement?
And they said, this is why they gave their terms.
And we actually have a new ICE leader here in
the state. And the guy that was leading ICE was
let go by the Trump administration and we've got a
new one in charge because our sheriffs advocated for the
people of Utah. And no one in that room seemed
to understand that.
Speaker 2 (38:27):
Well, a commissioner will let you go. But it sure
does sound like you had a very eventful day yesterday.
And no, we will not repeat it for you. It
is Thursday, not Wednesday.
Speaker 8 (38:36):
Thank you.
Speaker 5 (38:37):
I appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (38:39):
All right. That is Utah County Commissioner Amelia powers Gardener
on this, Greg, I don't know about you. What community
or what county in Utah would not want to have
the cooperation between their local law enforcement and federal agents
like ICE agents to come in and to do something
about illegal immigration in this country, especially if they're tracking
(39:00):
down criminals. Who would be against that?
Speaker 9 (39:02):
Greg?
Speaker 1 (39:03):
The only ones I know are the ones that want
open borders. They don't want to deport anybody, and they
are willing to go to political violence and fear mongering
to achieve that end. And that's that's really the only people, Rod,
because it is just as intuitive as the day as
long that we want people to follow the law. You
can't have a society without them. And you want your
(39:24):
law enforcement local, especially your duly elected sheriffs. These are
elected sheriffs. Isn't hired by a mayor. Nothing against chiefs
the police. I think they're incredibly important, but they have
a boss to answer to. The sheriff's answer to the people.
They elect their We elect our sheriffs. These are the
largest law enforcement jurisdictions in the country, and so your
(39:44):
sheriffs are particularly close to the people. And so why
on earth would you not want the law enforcement official
that you've got to elect to be making sure they
are communicating with any kind of law enforcement happening in
your county and your community. That's what's happening here. So
if you're against that, then you're actually for what it
(40:05):
is they're trying to prevent, and that is breaking the law, lawlessness,
the breaking. You know, these these these illegal immigrants aren't
coming here to bake us apple pie. These are drug cartels.
These are drug trafficking, human trafficking. And so yeah, the
people that are against what's happening here are are looking
(40:25):
for chaos. They're looking for chaos.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
Yeah, they are all right. Now, when we come back,
we want to know what you think tonight. Do you
think your local law enforcement, being the sheriff or even
local police should work with ICE in tracking down people
who should not be in this country, especially the criminals
eight eight eight five seven O eights zer a one
zero triple eight five seven O eights or a one
zero on your cell phone dial pound two fifty and
(40:47):
say hey Rod or on our talkback line. Just go
to canors dot com downloaded today and you can leave
us a message as well, your calls, your comments coming
up on the Rotten Greg Show.
Speaker 1 (40:58):
I am citizen Greg Hughes.
Speaker 2 (41:00):
With a big satellite dish on his roof broadcasting life right.
Speaker 4 (41:04):
Where are you?
Speaker 2 (41:04):
You're in Sigurd, Utah? Is that correct?
Speaker 1 (41:07):
Yes, sir, there's a beautiful life little park in front
of me. I think it's the town hall right in
the parking lot here. I just had to find a
place to pull off, you know, and here I am.
I'm just the heartland of a This is the part
that the dummer the leftists have never seen or on,
and they don't understand. That's where I'm at right now.
Speaker 2 (41:27):
All right, if you're just joining us now, our lines
are open to you at eight eight eight five seven
eight zero one zero on your cell phone ining dial
pound two fifty and say hey Rod or on our
talkback line as well. We'll let you hear it comment
that's already come in on our talk back line. What
we're talking about is this hearing yesterday down in Utah County,
as Commissioner Gardner just shared with us, lasting what five
(41:47):
hours people protesting an agreement between ICE and the Utah
County Sheriff's to part. Now, Greg, you work very very
closely with the Sheriff's association this agreement. What exactly does
it do? What is so frightening to people that this
agreement would perpetuate.
Speaker 1 (42:05):
So too? I think it's called two eighty seven G.
You take eight hours they have to each deputy sheriff
that would when they sign this, They take about eight
hours of training. And what it does is if you
book someone in for a crime, whatever it may be
in that jurisdiction, they can then they're deputized. If they
sign this and go through the training to also check
(42:26):
their residential status. If they are able to determine that
they're not legally here, they can actually issue I believe,
the warrant that would allow them to be removed or deported.
They would obviously notify ICE. They don't do this outside
of ICE. They work in coordination with absent agreements like
this all the What you would do instead of is
you just call ICE and say, hey, we got someone
(42:48):
we think here is someone you might be interested in,
and then they would have to come in and ask
the questions. Do the work. Much of that work's already
been done in the booking process originally, so issues like that,
it's just a lot of that paperwork streamlined to make
sure that you know, information is understood and that if
there's certain information that's relevant, the relevant law enforcement agencies
(43:09):
learn about it or find out about it or able
to do something about it. It just creates more efficiencies
and we need it. I mean, how many people do
we let over that border that Biden leed over that
border that we have to be more efficient with what
we do. You know, I joke to this Democrat friend
of mine, I said, you know, all Trump's trying to
do is get to Barack Obama's deportation removal numbers. That's
always trying to do. He can't even get to those numbers. Yeah,
(43:31):
And she said, well, what does that tell you? I
said that there's not leftist mobs and rent a mobs
getting in the way. That's why. It's not because they're
doing it wrong. It's because when Obama did it, you know,
his babies and cages didn't exist, same infrastructure, same everything.
Nobody had a word to say about it back then.
They I think even Barack Obama used to at least
(43:52):
try to go to common sense or appeal to people's
natural sense of right and wrong. And so that's why
you saw so many removals and deportations during his administration. Honestly,
Trump is just trying to match that. Yeah, that's it.
Speaker 2 (44:06):
Yeah, that's it. That's right, that's it.
Speaker 1 (44:07):
He could do better.
Speaker 2 (44:08):
Yeah, yeah, Well, if you want to come out, I
mean our comment, yeah, our comment on this tonight, of course,
or our question to you tonight is do you want
to see local law enforcement in your committee working with ICE.
This agreement gives the sheriff in Utah County a lot
of leeway and talking to ICE and keeping informed. I
think it is a good thing, Greg, I think it
leads to safer streets. But I'd like to hear from
(44:29):
our listeners. Eight eight eight five seven o eight zero
one zero eight eight eight five seven o eight zero
one zero. Here's one of the comments on our talk
back line already.
Speaker 10 (44:38):
Hello Robin, Greg, This is Robin from Taylorsville, and I
think all illegal aliens should be deported.
Speaker 3 (44:47):
Start.
Speaker 10 (44:48):
I agree, start with low lives first, but anyone who
came here illegally, especially under Biden, need to go to
bab We can't send Biden them.
Speaker 2 (45:02):
What'd we let in ten and a half million under
Joe Biden. We've got a big task in front of us, Craig.
Speaker 1 (45:08):
We really do the lawlessness the people, especially over the
last four years, especially dangerous. I mean I watched US
sixty minutes report one night, sixty minutes of all sources
which you can't really trust, the Mandarin Chinese that were
coming across through an app that they had, and the numbers,
I mean, Border Patrol had Mandarin Chinese recording saying basically
like welcome, go over here and check in and we'll
(45:30):
send you where you want. Honestly, it was that bad then.
I just it is a dangerous time we're living in
right now. And anybody who wants who's opposing the removal
and deportation of those that have come illegally, especially with
the criminal records, they have what scenario would they want
the law enforced? I think the answer to that is
(45:51):
they don't want it enforced. If you can't look at
the rap sheets of the people that are deporting and
you want to make them out to be a victim,
and the people that are finding them and removing them
and deporting them as the as being the oppressors. You've
you've got this upside down, and you might not your
intentions for this country and your community might not be
(46:11):
very good because forcing the law, especially the people that
are removing it's a we need to do it. It's
a again I find it. You know, if you have
federal law enforcement coming into Utah County or any county
and they haven't notified the county sheriff, they haven't notified
local law enforcement that where that they are there, or
(46:32):
they're going to do something, it does cause problems. I've
seen this already where this this causes a lot, a
lot of unavoidable problems when there isn't better communication. And
so everybody, everybody, I don't care where you are on
the political spectrum, you should be wanting your law enforcement
officials communicating with one another absolutely without pause.
Speaker 2 (46:54):
Well, we want to see what our listeners think about
that as well. Eight eight eight five seven O A
zero one zero on yourself phone dial pound two fifteen,
say hey.
Speaker 4 (47:01):
Rod, Hey got it all right?
Speaker 2 (47:08):
Welcome back the Rod and Greg Show with you on
this Thursday afternoon here on Utah's Talk Radio one O
five dine Kate n RS. Great to be with you.
Speaker 1 (47:17):
I'm rod Arkutt, I'm citizen Greg Hughes.
Speaker 2 (47:20):
I tell you what, well, hang on that, Greg, because
you're seeing this news come across. We are getting reports
now we can't you know, and these are from you
had one report, but there is a post now from
Daily Caller, another one from the Blades. I'm not sure
what's going on here, but both these stories are indicating
that CBS is canceling the CBS Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Speaker 1 (47:44):
Ding Dong, the Witch is dead. That is the best
news I've heard. You know, I don't watch the show,
so I don't really care if it's on or not,
but it is maybe there is some common sense starting
to seep in even in these networks. Who knows, well,
you knows.
Speaker 2 (47:59):
We don't know the authenticity of this, but they're both
labeled one from the Daily Caller, one from Glenn Beck
and The Blaze, and they're saying the Late Show with
Stephen Colbert is being canceled. Keeper out We'll we'll see
as the show develops tonight. If more reputable news sources
out there, and I'm not saying the Blades and Daily
Caller aren't They certainly are. We use them all the time.
But if more news outlets pick up on this story
(48:21):
and see if in fact Stephen Colbert Show is being canceled,
do you know.
Speaker 1 (48:25):
What to tell will be what when CBS says it,
yeah really yeah yeah. So here's my theory, and this
is why I can't wait to get to the phones.
I believe that the five hour commit County Utah County
Commission meeting yesterday was rent a riot, rent a protest.
(48:46):
Leftists that don't darken the door of that commission otherwise
don't know those county commissioners as they get to know
the constituents that they represent and they serve. And so
I want to hear from our listeners, is there a
merit to five straight hours at two minutes apiece of
everyone they heard from saying, don't work with these ice
(49:06):
agents in any way, shape or form, stop them if
you can. So to get to the bottom of this,
let's go to our callers, our listeners. Let's go to
Dean from Lyndon. Dean, thank you for holding. Welcome to
the Rod and Gregg Show.
Speaker 2 (49:22):
Go ahead, Dean, go ahead, Dean. Well I don't, I don't,
we can't get Dean. Let's go to Joe and Taylorsville.
See what Joe has to say on this tonight. Joe,
how are you welcome to the Rod and Gregg Show?
Speaker 11 (49:39):
Doing great?
Speaker 1 (49:40):
Thank you?
Speaker 9 (49:41):
Two things. One is the fact that yes, I am
all for law enforcement talking to eyes and you know,
coordinating things. That's great. But the question I have and
is something maybe you can expound on this. Aren't a
lot of these people that came in through Joe and
we're giving you know, phones and money and all of
this stuff, aren't they technically legal? And shouldn't we be
(50:01):
going after them first because they came in last and
they're probably the ones that they are creating more issues
and problems.
Speaker 2 (50:08):
I don't know, do you what do you think on that? Greg?
Speaker 1 (50:11):
So I do think, well, what I think is that
first that the the the caller is right. There was
Joe Biden had this like you could sign up on
an app and say I'm just and just use the
word asylum, and it somehow was it became the new process.
That process has been rescinded. It was no, I mean,
it was questionable whether he had the authority to do
something like that with that without Congress anyway. But to
(50:33):
the question about who they're apprehending, I am being told
that these are the coordination with the Utah County Shore
for any sheriff is really where illegal behavior has occurred,
where there's been a crime, where someone's being booked, Now
they're looking into their residency and seeing if they've committed
other crimes. So we're talking about a criminal element that
exists in these counties now. I think I agree with
(50:57):
most of other people that I think if people have
broken the law, I don't let's put it this way,
I don't have any law that I know.
Speaker 9 (51:03):
A lot of these guys, though, have been driving without insurance.
Speaker 3 (51:08):
You know.
Speaker 9 (51:08):
They they're doing a lot of things that are not
really legal and thinking jobs that could be a teenager's
job to go do you know lived or the Uber
eats or stuff like that. Yeah, so there's I think
there's an element there.
Speaker 1 (51:21):
Yeah, No, you're right. I agree with you, and I
think that you know that. I think they're staring at
the ones they think are the most dangerous to the
community right now, and I think there's a priority. However,
I don't know and you don't have I'm sure that
we all share this in common listeners, what laws are
we allowed to ignore that everybody else has to follow?
(51:42):
Which ones are those? I like? I'd like to know
which laws I don't have to follow. In other words,
there is a rule of law, and if you've broken
the law, you can't be you can't get aggressive for
the enforcement of law. I mean we all are subject
to that. If we are all subject to the laws
of the land, then I think that's a too. I
just think it should apply across the board.
Speaker 2 (52:03):
Yeah, yeah, I'm with you on that, Greg. All right,
more of your calls and comments, Greg, I want to
bring you up to speed on that breaking story we had.
CBS has now confirmed it. They just put out a statement.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will end in May
of next year. Colbert and CBS announced today the company
said it will retire the Late Show franchise and called
it a purely financial decision. Right, the Late Show with
(52:27):
Colbert will end his historic run on May of next year.
When they say financial decision, that means you aren't getting
the ratings, you're alienating half the country, and you aren't
doing this any good, so see you later. I mean,
that's exactly what that means tonight.
Speaker 1 (52:42):
You know, you know what I think has happened.
Speaker 5 (52:44):
Rod.
Speaker 1 (52:44):
You taught me this because you're a broadcast you know,
professional for like one hundred years. I think you were
in it before there was even TV. They but you
said that they were getting a cut from cable, Like
you didn't even have to watch their channel, but if
there was a cable subscription, they these these works, these
stations were getting a cut of your cable bill, whether
you watch them or not. I think that with YouTube
(53:06):
and with different ways of getting your content now that's
not cable. I think ratings are coming back. They actually
mean something again, and because they used to mean something,
and so with ratings meaning something, I think that these
shows that are just wild, I think, wildly unpopular with
the everyday Americans, they're gonna go. They're gonna be canceled
(53:27):
because nobody's watching them. Well, it used to be able
to keep those up artificially, but not anymore.
Speaker 2 (53:32):
Yeah. This news release says that Colbert broke the news
to the audience during his show taping of the show
today they usually tape it at five thirty six o'clock
at night, play it back a little bit later on.
He said this Before we start the show. I want
to let you know something I found out just last night. Wow.
Next year will be our last season. The network will
be ending the late show in May. So he didn't
(53:53):
know until last night they pulled the plug outs May May.
Speaker 4 (53:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (53:57):
I don't want it now. I want it to be
over today. We gotta wait till May.
Speaker 2 (54:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (54:04):
Sorry, that's right, so sad.
Speaker 2 (54:06):
All right, more of your calls and comments coming up.
It is The Rotten Gregg Show on Utah's Talk radio

that their fiduciary is that Trajan Wealth have Hearts of Teachers. Well,
guess what I found out the other day They do
really walk their talk. I had a chance to sit
down with my fiduciary, his name is Steve, and talk
about what he can do for my investment planning. They
employ individuals with Hearts of Teachers, as I mentioned why,
because they share high values. They don't want to talk
(55:41):
down to you or use fancy financial or legal jargon.
They want to talk to you straightforward so you understand
what can happen and what they can do to help
your money, to maintain your retirement plan and really help
things grow. They have a straightforward, flat percentage fee for
money management. They will also disclose any conflict of interest

Speaker 2 (56:21):
They announced tonight. He broke the news tonight as of
May of next year, which I think is way too long.
The Light Show with Stephen Cocher is going away.
Speaker 1 (56:32):
I may have next year. That is so long. That's
actually a ripoff. They shouldn't they That's I Yeah, I
don't watch it anyway, but they should just cut it
out now.
Speaker 4 (56:41):
Yeah, all right, hey, let's.
Speaker 5 (56:43):
Go back to our callers.
Speaker 1 (56:44):
Let's get back. Let's get back. Let's hear what our
colors think about this immigration situation and with our local
LA enforcement are duly elected sheriffs and counties working with ICE.
What say you, folks. Let's go to Mike, who's been
patiently waiting in Eagle Mountain. Mike, welcome to the rod
and great show.
Speaker 8 (57:03):
I thanks for taking my call, Thank you. I wanted
to just say that the people in Utah County for
the most part, support working directly with Ice and with
the What President Trump is trying to do. I mean,
he's not deporting. He hasn't even deported the same amount
(57:26):
of people, not even close what Obama and Biden have deported.
And he's going after the criminals first, that's what he's doing.
I think that we should work with Trump and go
after the true criminals first, get rid of the violent criminals,
(57:46):
and then when that's done, we need to go after
the new illegals that have come here. I have taken
some sort of benefit from American tax payers and haven't
had to pay for anything, and go after them next,
like you're the You.
Speaker 2 (58:05):
Know, it's interesting, Greg, Mike is the second one who
has mentioned that go after the criminals first, and then
go after the people who've come in during the Biden
administration because America has basically paid for everything they get
right now, he's the second caller to mension that, Greg, But.
Speaker 1 (58:19):
You know what, I think there's a strong trend by
the way the two Democrat presidents that Trump needs to
be able to keep pace with would be Clinton, and Obama.
By Biden didn't deport anyone. He'd let everybody in and left,
let you know, and actually gave him hotel rooms, you know,
wherever they wanted to be in a country. But the
point was well taken. I think that you've got to
(58:40):
go after our dangerous criminals. But I have to tell you,
when you open the border, when there is zero vetting
of people coming in or it's not even hard to
get in, the cartels are running that like they had
never been able to run it before, and everyone is
involved in human trafficking and drug trafficking. I would argue
that of the people that they let in over those
(59:02):
four years, these weren't huddled masses. These were people that
were even forced into criminal activity if they were going
to be able to get across because the cartels controlled
those borders. It is again, I think that the situation
in America right now could not be more dangerous, and
so I think that anything we can do to work
(59:22):
with ice, and I think that the criminals as well,
and those that Biden let through, I think they're probably
one and the same. I think that the criminal element's
pretty heavy.
Speaker 2 (59:32):
Let's go to Jamison, then Salt Lake City led Jamins
some way in on this, Jamison, how are you welcome
to the show.
Speaker 11 (59:39):
Yeah, it's good to be on the show again. Thank
you for having me. I was just going to say
completely and utterly support what's going on. This is exactly
what I what I voted for. Reason being, you know,
I work in the trades. I see the effects of
people who come here who don't really respect that they're here.
Speaker 2 (01:00:00):
And you know, good point, Jamison. Thank you. Sorry to
cut you off there. We've got to get to a break.
But you know, a lot of people, you know, Greg,
I think that was such an anomaly yesterday that we
saw in Utah County because I think most Utahns want
local law enforcement to work with ice and to do
something about the criminals first, and then people who were
(01:00:22):
here illegally as well. That's what they want.
Speaker 1 (01:00:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:00:25):
Absolutely, the Light Show with Stephen Goldbert, one of Greg's favorites.
He's in sad and he's in morning right now. Yeah,
this show is going.
Speaker 1 (01:00:33):
To be It should have ended today. Today's should had
just been this last show. It should just put us
out of put the whole country out of its misery. Now,
you know, we saw this breaking on multiple conservative news sites, Breitbart,
The Blade, it was on the Blaze, Daily Caller. But
now the regime media is putting on the funeral. Now.
(01:00:53):
I saw it just from the New York Times and
it's all over, and I'm seeing it from CBS. It's
vanity fair. They're all well, they're all just weeping and whaling.
It's it's such a good day.
Speaker 2 (01:01:03):
What did what did Byron York with the Washington examinter
say something like what was that line he used?
Speaker 1 (01:01:10):
Yeah, he said I love it. He said that he
goes loss of a major inkind contribution for the Democrats.
And that's what the Colbert Show was for them. It
was just propaganda, free of charge. So let's let's let's
get back to our callers. We're talking about the drama somehow,
(01:01:31):
the pretend drama in Utah County and their commissioned meeting yesterday.
Five hours of people saying, do not work with ice,
do not cooperate with them, and your sheriffs don't do it.
Uh and uh. We're asking you to our listeners if
this reflects your sentiment in any way. So let's go
back to the phones and let's go to Tim and Laighton.
(01:01:51):
Tim Thank you for holding. Welcome to the Ronny Gregg Show.
Speaker 15 (01:01:57):
Hey, ron Greg, Good to talk to you guys again. Hey,
my comment isn't just specifically about the Utah County stuff,
but in general, there's been two two points I want
to dress about just this black and white uh mentality
when it comes to this immigration stuff. One is on
(01:02:17):
the enforcement. I've got a lot of contacts that are
the guys out there doing the work, and what I've
what I've found and seen is that there's a lot
of leeway of freedom in the station chiefs and even
the guys out there on who they're going after. There
have been quotas to to to go pick up people,
(01:02:39):
and it's start with criminals. Now depending on those areas,
how how much it's slowed down they're they're doing work
site enforcement, and I'm sure all that will continue to progress.
But even even down to the agents doing it, some
of the agents are you know, their mentality is, hey,
this is our direction. I'm still gonna try to focus
(01:03:00):
on the criminals while you have others that they're just
grabbing anybody who they can. So that's why there's mixed
information coming out, mixing harrows because the situation. There isn't
just black and white and the other area where we
do it. I heard a comment earlier about the last
four years. So I employ several guys who have permits
(01:03:25):
who came in over the last four years, and the
guys that work for me, they're doing all their appointments,
they're going to the court appointments, they're doing everything they
were told to do. And the amount of NGOs and
information that was out there, you don't just have groups
that were forced and came through and traffic through the cartels.
(01:03:46):
Do you have guys who tried to take the opportunity
from what they were sold by all these NGOs who
came here and they're trying based off what they're told.
So we got to be careful about, you know, if
you're either this or you're that, because there's a lot
of gray matter out there and there's a lot of
good people. I heard Trump talk last week about trying
(01:04:09):
to streamline some work permits outside of just the agricultural
and I think that's that's where a conversation needs to go.
And I think a lot could be accomplished through vetting,
through employers who have guys on these other permits. And
just say, hey, has this guy been working, is he reliable?
Has he been paying his taxes? And you got another
(01:04:31):
source because most of the guys that fall in that
category would be more than happy to give their fingerprints,
their blood, not have to become citizens. They just want
to work and they want to be able to go
home and see their families. There's a lot that's not
being talked about.
Speaker 2 (01:04:47):
Yeah, well, there are a lot of issues surrounding this,
tim How would you how would you sift out those people,
those workers who you're talking about, from people who are
openly breaking the law here? I mean, how do you
deal with that? Because it is a complicated, complex issue.
Speaker 15 (01:05:07):
That's that's easy once, in my mind, is easy, right,
we all say it's ez till it comes to enforcement.
But if you first, if you provided the permit and
you open up the opportunity and guys knew they could
come sign up or give you all their info, you
give them a window, Hey, if you want to be here,
you want to work, come give me your info, and
(01:05:28):
then you start doing checks and confirm with employers that
it's not all pretend. Once they fall outside that window,
you gave them their grace sperience. Anybody that's picked up
or caught in those illegal activities, they get the boot.
You know, if they're not willing to might not get
their fingerprint, give you all their info they are, they're
(01:05:48):
probably up to no good.
Speaker 1 (01:05:52):
My feeling on this, though, Tim, is it you're seeing
there's been a really strong effort to communicate to those
that might have come over under false pretenses by NGOs
to the Biden administration. They've been told if they self
deport none of this will be held against them, it's
not going to prevent their ability to legally enter this country,
and a lot of people have taken taken up the
(01:06:13):
President his administration up on that. So self deportation has
been in the millions, I believe, or at least a
million that's happened. I almost worry that it would be
unfair to those that self deported because they want the
chance to come in legally, and those that ignored it
and are waiting for a workaround to come eventually. I
do think that if people want to come in through
(01:06:35):
there should be a reasonable way to come to this country.
But I think that the ones that should be eligible
for that are those that if they were here under
one of these circumstances that they self deport and then
apply I guess too many have already done it that way,
where you're almost disadvantaging those that have done it that
way if you leave, if you find an easier way
for those that ignored that and decide to stay.
Speaker 4 (01:07:01):
I got chat Hey, look all right, yeah, all right, Tim?
Speaker 2 (01:07:03):
We yeah. I think what do you make of his comment?
I mean, does he even have a point here? Great?
Speaker 1 (01:07:09):
I I well, I said that I think that those
that's self deported should be in the front of the line,
because he's right if you were if an m G
O or or this Biden administration opened the border said
come on in, and you did. But now Trump's been
elected and now he's not. He's changed that. That asylum
game they played was not right to begin with. They've
(01:07:30):
eliminated that. But what the Biden administration has said, and
what Homeland Security has said and Christy Dumm they've said, look,
self deport, this will not be held against you. Self
deport and file to come into the country legally. And
a lot have. The self deportations are high high, and
so I think it's it's unfair to them to people
that came in, but self deported and now want to
(01:07:52):
find a legal pathway or trying to do it right
to give a workaround to those that ignored that from
this administration. And they're still here here.
Speaker 2 (01:08:00):
Yeah, all right, back to the phoness we go. Let's
go to Nick and Duilla. Nick way in on, that's
what are your thoughts? Hello, Nick? Yeah, go ahead, and yeah,
go ahead, Nick.
Speaker 16 (01:08:12):
You guys just covered it. You know, they made they
made an easy way for all of this to be avoided,
and that's by self deportation. However they didn't. Not everybody
has followed on and now they're getting upset that we're
actually laying down the law. That's where the problem is.
The problem is they had an opportunity and failed to
take it.
Speaker 1 (01:08:34):
Yeah, that's that's my cake. Yeah, I'm with Nick.
Speaker 2 (01:08:38):
Well, they had an opportunity and they fail it. You're right,
You're right, Greg, All right, more coming up. It is
the Thursday afternoon edition of the Rod and Greg Show
right here on Utah's Talk Radio one oh five nine
k NRS.
Speaker 1 (01:08:50):
So let's go back to the phones getting some great
commentary and some observations. Let's go to George, who's been
waiting from provo. You're right there in Utah County. George,
what do you think about the commission meeting in your
county that happened last night.
Speaker 17 (01:09:05):
I fully support any law enforcement in Utah, especially Utah County,
doing everything they can to support ICE, and I think
a lot more people in Utah County feel that way
than they're trying to let on.
Speaker 2 (01:09:20):
Are they afraid, George to express your opinion? Do you
think in Utah County?
Speaker 17 (01:09:27):
I don't know if it's if it's afraid so much
as just.
Speaker 5 (01:09:31):
You know, just want it to happen.
Speaker 16 (01:09:33):
But I think if.
Speaker 17 (01:09:34):
They're asking people, they're cherry picking. There's you know, Utah County.
I mean, it's not as conservative as I'd like or
as it's been in the past, But this kind of
idea that you know that everybody in Utah County is
upset with our sheriffs or anybody else supporting ICE, I
(01:09:57):
think is bs.
Speaker 2 (01:10:00):
I would agree with you, George, and sense agree to Greg.
Speaker 1 (01:10:06):
I do I really do I think that that packed
commission meeting, five hours of people all unanimously saying don't
do it. I think that was all performative. I think
that's a rent a riot you saw. I think that's
just the how. There's a lot of money behind keeping
the illegal illegals here in this country. There's a lot
to destabilize it. By the way, it's not because they
(01:10:27):
want it's businesses that want cheaper labor under the table.
It's meant to destabilize, destabilize this country. And that's that's
that is at the heart of all of this. And
so yeah, they can, they can. They can pay people
to go to commission meetings and they can rally them.
They're around. It's that's what you're seeing. It's what you
always see with this crowd. Yeah, So I don't think
(01:10:47):
that's you, and that's not you tuck him.
Speaker 2 (01:10:49):
Yeah, I'll I'll move to a different story. Are you
ware the story of the CEO who was at a
cold Play concert last night and what happened, Greg, Well.
Speaker 1 (01:10:59):
You know a lot they co a deal with the
devil you will get burned. Well, and looked like a
happily married man was maybe enjoying the evening in a
concert with someone who is not his wife and got
caught on the kiss camp.
Speaker 5 (01:11:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:11:17):
Sure. His name is Andy Byron. He's the CEO of
Astronomer he was caught cozying up to his chief of
human resources at this time, which is like in cold Play.
Speaker 1 (01:11:30):
Job is to keep that from happening in the workplace,
to keep it all professional. Well, and they were in
the concert.
Speaker 2 (01:11:37):
Yeah, and if you haven't seen this video, the kiss
cam focuses right on there. They're canoodling and hugging each other.
When they realized they're on the big screen, they just
dive for their ground. And he came out today. He
came out today, said it was a deeply personal mistake
playing out on a very public stage. He says he's
taking time to reflect and has asked for privacy. Not
(01:11:59):
only did he ask for forgiveness, he criticized Coldplay. He says,
they're invading my privacy. How dare they do that?
Speaker 1 (01:12:08):
Yeah, you and every other kiss cam couple that's ever
been on those things, not just you know, Coldplay, but
at the hockey games and everything else. I mean, come on,
the guys, guy's he must be a democrat. Look at
he wants to be a victim. He's looking to be
a victim. He's not a victim.
Speaker 2 (01:12:23):
I mean he was doing you know there they are
just all hugging, loving, each other and is not his wife,
and they were caught red hand. And I wonder what
you think you today.
Speaker 1 (01:12:35):
I think that wifey at home just got fifty percent
of everything that man owns. That's what I think just happened.
I think a transfer of assets just occurred. Yeah, I'm guessing.
Speaker 2 (01:12:45):
Yeah, sure, sure, that's just funny story. One other story.
If you are just joining us to Night on your
way home. Big announcement from Stephen Colbert of The Light
Show to Night on CBS. The show is going bye bye, Greg.
I know you'll miss it deeply.
Speaker 1 (01:13:02):
My big my big fear is that they're gonna they're
canceling it so far away, may have twenty six. I'm
afraid they'll change their mind between now and that.
Speaker 2 (01:13:10):
No, I don't think.
Speaker 1 (01:13:10):
I just I just want them to go. I just
go away, just leave. Yeah, Well, nobody wants you, nobody
likes you.
Speaker 2 (01:13:18):
Yeah, well the network in Colbert say, well, the network
says it's purely financial. Well, of course it is financial.
His ratings are low. Nobody half the country does want
advertise on that show anymore. They're losing money. He has
this huge contract. They made a business decision.
Speaker 4 (01:13:34):
PLU.
Speaker 2 (01:13:35):
It's probably looked at the numbers and realized how many
people really don't like Stephen Colbert.
Speaker 1 (01:13:41):
So Kimmel and Fallon the other two networks they're they're
they actually had lower ratings than Colbert. Yes, what's the
fate You're you are the you are the TV guru,
You're the you know, you know this stuff. Well, what's
the fate of those two shows?
Speaker 3 (01:13:55):
Don't know?
Speaker 2 (01:13:55):
I don't. Yeah, you know. Kimmel is I think as
political as co Bear.
Speaker 18 (01:14:00):
I thought.
Speaker 2 (01:14:01):
I've heard him say he doesn't want to do this
much longer. Maybe he's on his way up a Foullony,
in my opinion, is not very political. I just think
Fallon is stupid. I don't. I don't he laughs at
his own jokes. I mean, it's just I don't think
he has a very good show. He's not a good
host in my opinion.
Speaker 1 (01:14:18):
No, I none of those shows I think. You know.
I hate to say this, but I don't find the
I don't find the gut Felt Show at Night very funny.
I tried to watch it. Yeah, I think I got
a sense of humor, but I'm just I'm just not
for some reason, it's not clicked with me. But I'm
I'm at that show gets way higher ratings than those
three clowns that come on every night. And that's got
(01:14:42):
to tell you something, because I actually don't think the
bar is very high with that gut Felt show, because again,
I just find it to be a little it's just
not funny. It's just not funny.
Speaker 2 (01:14:50):
And I've tried to and I'm with you, but there
are a lot of people who like it. He gets
some really really good numbers, so they like his humor.
Speaker 1 (01:14:57):
But maybe it was in contrast. We'll see if if
you got those three clowns, if you got those three
stooges out of there, would people still watch Gutfeld. I
don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:15:05):
Yeah, we'll see, see man, we sure will. All right.
Liz Peak will join us coming up next on The
Rod and Greg Show and Talk Radio one O five
to nine KNRS.
Speaker 1 (01:15:14):
Great listener just rolled up. I just gave him a
good rotten Greg hat.
Speaker 5 (01:15:18):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:15:18):
He says he and his wife are having listeners. Thank
you for coming by. I never thought a million years
sitting here I had to pull over. It's just a
random spot that I've met listeners sitting here. It's been great.
I love it.
Speaker 2 (01:15:30):
Well, if you're just joining us a shucker for the
entertainment industry. Today CBS announced will Stephen Colbert announced on
a show the taping of a show which plays later
on tonight, that CBS is kicking him out the door.
As a matter of fact, his show is going a
weigh as of May of next year. Greg, Surprise, surprise, surprise, right.
Speaker 1 (01:15:50):
Yeah, Adam Schiff is just really livid about. It's another
positive social proofing that it's the right decision. Adam Shiff says,
just finished taping with Stephen Colbert, who announced his show
was canceled. If Paramount and CBS ended the Late Show
for political reasons, the public deserves to know and deserves better.
Speaker 2 (01:16:10):
Here's cool Bear making the announcement during the tape end
of the show.
Speaker 19 (01:16:14):
Oh hey everybody, we got a great show for you tonight.
Senator Adam Schiff was my guest. We harmonized on seven
Bridges Road. What a voice, I cried. But before we
start the show, I want to let you know something
that I found out just last night. Next year will
be our last season. The network will be ending the
Late Show in May.
Speaker 17 (01:16:36):
And.
Speaker 19 (01:16:44):
Yeah, I share your feelings. It's not just the end
of our show. But it's the end of the late
show on CBS.
Speaker 2 (01:16:51):
I'm not so there you go. That's the announcement today.
He is out of here right as of next May.
Speaker 1 (01:16:58):
Yeah, I guess you just can't cost your network millions
of dollars and keep losing viewership and still stick around.
Imagine that.
Speaker 2 (01:17:05):
Can't do that. Can't do that?
Speaker 4 (01:17:07):
No, you all right?
Speaker 1 (01:17:09):
Sense might be coming back to CBS.
Speaker 2 (01:17:11):
Yeah, we want to thank Liz Peak for hanging out
for a second. Liz is joining us on our ending
our newsmaker line. Right now, Liz, let's talk about your
article in the Democrats and that party's demise. What on
earth is going on? Liz? What do you make of
all this with the Democrats right now?
Speaker 20 (01:17:26):
You know, uh, I think honestly Democrats need a change
of leadership. And of course that is problematic, right because
the people making the most noise, the people getting the
most attention, are people like Soron Mamdami, who stands a
good chance of becoming Mayor of New York City, a Muslim,
anti capitalist, anti Zionist, anti semit who you know, is
(01:17:51):
just a horrifying Democrat candidate. And so if he becomes
like AOC Frankly and Bernie Sanders the most noteworthy, outspoken,
attention grabbing Democrat. Then they're really in trouble. And so
I think, look, and I don't. Democrats are not that stupid.
They know they need to find their way back to
(01:18:12):
common sense. This poll from Unite the Country a Democrat
superpack really said, you need to find common sense. You
need to find answers to people's problems. Basically, get away
from the obsession with transgenders and race and identity. People
(01:18:35):
not lying awake at night wishing that transgenders could compete
in girls baseball. That's just not what Americans are consumed with,
but it is what a lot of Democrat thought leaders
are consumed with. Same with Frankly. Democracy democracy is obviously
a pretty wholesome issue. But again, I think very few
(01:18:56):
people in this country really think our democracy is under attack.
That's something they've been pushing for the last couple of years,
and there.
Speaker 6 (01:19:04):
Really isn't much to show for it.
Speaker 20 (01:19:06):
We have elections, we have judges. You know, things are
kind of going along the way they have for two
hundred years.
Speaker 6 (01:19:12):
So is there a cure?
Speaker 20 (01:19:14):
Yes, common sense, practical actually traditional Democrat values but where
are those people. I don't know, you know.
Speaker 1 (01:19:23):
And the way you frame it that it sounds so reasonable,
But I don't even know if I think, I don't
know that they get what you're even saying, because when
you reference Mark Cuban and his response to the poll
numbers that show that the Democrats are in real trouble here,
his answer, the one that I saw on television was
we have to swear more. Honestly, he said, if we
if we just if we just had more, if we
(01:19:45):
were a swear bear, then everybody would think we were normal,
and then we could just do what we want to do.
I don't even I think they just they're all about
pageantry and repackaging. Do they ever get to the substance
of what of what their issues are? Because Mark Cuban
certainly wasn't talking about substance. He was talkingalking about if
we just if we could just swear like sailors, we'd
have the whole country on our side. I mean, do
(01:20:05):
they I don't know.
Speaker 20 (01:20:06):
And by the way, yeah, have you noticed that they
are actually doing that? I mean they are actually various
male and female Democrats kind of let looseid F bombs
every now and then just to kind of show. I
think it's this concern that they've really lost young men
and they think the way to get back young men
is to be coarse and to kind of appeal to
(01:20:28):
their lesser I don't know whatever sensibilities. But to your point,
do they get it? And I would say no, And
I don't say that casually, because this is important. It's
important of two well meaning political parties in our country,
and right now we only have one. In my view
(01:20:50):
that Democrats really are just sort of so in the
basement intellectually and that and every other way. But think
about who they are talking about as candidates in twenty two,
twenty eight, Kamala Harris. Okay, let's discard her for a moment.
She got there by accident. Really, but they're talking Pritzker,
the governor of Illinois, a failed state. They're talking Gavin Newsom,
(01:21:13):
the governor of California, a fabulous state that is losing
residents hand over fists. I mean, the people that they
lawed and celebrate are people who are ostensibly failing, right
and you know that, Look at who's the leadership of
the Democrat Party. Chuck Schumer and Jakkim Jeffries from New York.
(01:21:33):
For heaven's sakes, New York sabasket case, I lived there.
I can tell you absolutely we're in trouble. You know,
high taxes, terrible regulations making it impossible for small businesses.
These are bad policies, and guess what, at the end
of the day, bad policies cost you a lot.
Speaker 2 (01:21:52):
They seem to be hanging their head on the immigration
raids as well, Liz. Of course you cite the raid
in California last week at the marijuana farm. I think
most Americans looked at them and said, why is Ice
letting these people get away with this? I wouldn't let
them get away with it. Where do you think America
views these raids? How do you see they view How
do you see Americans viewing this right now?
Speaker 20 (01:22:14):
Well, I would say this that clearly eighty to ninety
percent of the country thinks that if there's an illegal,
a person in the country legally who's committed a crime,
they should go, they should be thrown out. I don't
think there's really much controversy about that. I think where
you get into a little bit stickier wicked is where
someone who's been the country thirty years they've been paying
(01:22:34):
their Social Security taxes, they've raised a family here that
I think is more problematic. What we need, and I
hate to say this because it's such aid like Joe Biden,
Oh my god, what a horrible presence, is that we actually,
we actually need some new rules on immigration. Republicans believe
in immigration, legal immigration. Democrats have lost their marvels because
(01:22:58):
really they historically leave in the same thing that we
should have protected borders, immigrations great, but it has to
be legal. And now they've just kind of like, no, no,
we don't want any rules at all. Nobody thinks that's right.
Speaker 1 (01:23:11):
Nobody does.
Speaker 20 (01:23:12):
If we need farm workers, in other words, and President
Trump has said in hospitality and farm we need these workers, Okay,
make them legal. If we need these visa programs, seasonal
visa programs expanded, expand the seasonal visa, the programs, this
is what Congress is supposed to do. So why is
(01:23:34):
it so impossible to pass some laws that solve some
of these problems this I think I'm going to write
about this soon because it's so infuriating that there's not
even an effort made to solve this problem. Because at
some point here's what's going to happen. There's going to
be some people caught up in these raids that are
pretty good folks and that everyone likes and they're kind
(01:23:56):
of pillars of their community, and then everyone's going to
go nuts and the mood of the country will shift.
They'll forget. Honestly, we have a short attention span in
the United States. Two years from now, people will forget
about the tens of thousands of people coming across the
border with no tracking, no idea of who we were
(01:24:17):
letting in, et cetera. That was a travesty. In my view,
that's almost borderline treason. US people will forget that and
they'll say, oh, you know, this is harsh. We have
to kind of go back to more open borders, and
that then we're going to be a problem. So I
think Trump's next move if I were advising the president,
remember he put forward some immigration ideas before. They were excellent,
(01:24:41):
the country liked them. I would go back to that.
I would go back to demanding Congress paths some new
immigration laws that allow us to protect our borders but
also have the workers we need for these various industries.
Speaker 2 (01:24:56):
Let's speak, joining us on any of our News miaker line. Greg,
you and I have talked about this. Will Donald Trump
eventually head in the direction of doing more on immigration
instead of just shutting down the border and kicking out
people who shouldn't be here.
Speaker 1 (01:25:11):
Well, I've always said you need a tall wall, but
you need eventually you need a wide gate. You could
never deal with any kind of practical legal way to
come in if you didn't have a secure border, because
anything that you would do, uh by way of you know,
whether it's there, you know, the kids that came here
as little babies or whatever, you would just become a
magnet for more illegal immigration if you can, if you
(01:25:32):
have a border, and I think the Big Beautiful Bill
fully funds the wall, the technology around it, more border agents.
If you could secure this border, I think the ability
for people to come and work here. But now over
the table. Now now employers have to pay them, and
you have to pay payroll and everything else. Let's see
how much of a labor gap we have. I suspect
if it's not under the table, in under market wages,
(01:25:55):
I happen I happen to think that the demand won't
be as high as some say it is. But I
think it should be easy to get, easier to get through,
make it, make it a reasonable way to do it,
or else you incentivize people to try and get in
illegally because it's just too hard to do it. Right.
Speaker 2 (01:26:09):
Yeah, Well, we'll see where the president goes with us.
All Right, there's some shocking new numbers out on the
President and Jeffrey Epstein. CNN Harry Anton has them, and
we'll we'll let you hear what he had to say,
coming up next right here on the Rod and Greg
Show and Utah's Talk Radio one oh five nine knrs. Well,
our good friend Harry Innton from CNN was back on today.
Speaker 5 (01:26:31):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:26:31):
A lot of people out there have been talking about
We've talked about this on the show as well, Greg,
the potential divide between the president and his supporters over
the whole Epstein story, right, And a lot of people
are saying this is going to divide the party and
the President is going to lose his popularity. Is that
the general belief a lot of people have had.
Speaker 1 (01:26:52):
Yes, they think that there are a lot of people
that are mad at Trump because he's promised to release
this client list and much more. And now he's saying
there's nothing there, and they think the fixes in and
they're angry.
Speaker 2 (01:27:02):
Yeah, well, listen to what Harry found out in his
polling today.
Speaker 4 (01:27:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 18 (01:27:05):
I mean, look, I think this one surprised me a bit.
Speaker 4 (01:27:07):
Because of all these.
Speaker 18 (01:27:08):
Complaints online going after Trump and the Epstein files. You
might think his approval ratings were going down with Republicans.
If anything, they're going up Republicans who approve of Trump.
Look at our CNN poll, the prior one to eighty
six percent, the one out this week eighty eight percent
with Republicans. How about Quinnipiac the prior poll eighty seven
percent approval of Republicans, this week out ninety percent with Republicans.
(01:27:29):
If anything, Donald Trump's approval rating has gone up since
this whole Epstein saga started. He is at the apex
or close there too, in terms of his popularity with
Republican voters. Epstein files complaints.
Speaker 2 (01:27:42):
Or not, Well, I guess the Epstein files are not
hurting the president according to the latest polling.
Speaker 1 (01:27:46):
Greg, don't tell our listeners that. I don't know if
I don't know if you're keeping score Friday, But I'm
still thinking about that. We got told we were they were.
I was underplaying that whole thing us. But no, I do.
I think there's an undercurrent there that I hope President
Trump is appreciating. I think transparency is the best disinfectant,
(01:28:10):
and I think if it's not transparent, it's gonna it
will dog him. I'm just unnecessarily and sadly because he's
doing so much and there's so much going on. So anyway,
I I just, I just I hope that they could
talk about this, but I hope that we the transparency
and just playing it straight up we learn more.
Speaker 2 (01:28:32):
Well. As a matter of fact, he had another sound boy.
We haven't got time to play that now. But they
you know, the the the people that were polled were asked,
where are your priorities? Where does Epstein rank among the priorities?
They listed immigration, crime, the economy, all those right. They
had one, not one percent, greg but one respondent in
(01:28:53):
the survey that they took said Epstein is a priority
one on one.
Speaker 1 (01:29:00):
I'm not taking the bait. Rod saying that I'm not
taking the bait. I am not you. I am not
saying this isn't a priority. I learned my lesson for
I'm not saying it. Nope, you I love our listeners.
They teach me all the time. They told me you're
up in the night. This is the tip of the iceberg.
So I hear them. I'm with them.
Speaker 2 (01:29:21):
Well, you've been on the road today and we really
want to thank the wonderful people have sigur Utah who
came by and said.
Speaker 1 (01:29:28):
How nice is that?
Speaker 4 (01:29:29):
Huh?
Speaker 1 (01:29:30):
I mean, it's a last thing I expected. I thought
some would get mad at me for sitting outside this park,
and I think I'm a weirdo.
Speaker 4 (01:29:36):
You know, I'm sitting out.
Speaker 1 (01:29:37):
You are three hours you are you know?
Speaker 2 (01:29:39):
Yeah? Yeah, No, I just.
Speaker 1 (01:29:40):
Had nothing but pleasant exchanges.
Speaker 2 (01:29:42):
Good. That's great. All right, Well that does it for
us tonight here on the Rod and Greg Show. As
we say each and every night, head up, shoulders back.
May God bless you and your family this great country
of ours. Greg will be back in studio tomorrow. It
is I think Rodd and Greg gets Friday tomorrow. It
starts at four. We'll talk to you then, have a
good night.
