Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey thirty three on Sports Talk seven ninety the Doug
Pike Show. Thank you for listening. Certainly do appreciate it.
Let's go talk to the man who knows all about
e bikes, and that is Wayne Errington. Wayne, how are
you man?

Speaker 2 (00:13):
I'm Doug, Great Doug and you I'm all right?

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Did you guys free?

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Well?

Speaker 1 (00:16):
I'm not no, I know you froze last night. How
low did it get up there?

Speaker 3 (00:22):
So from what I saw, it looks like it was
twenty five degrees in tom Bawlow.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Okay, it is a toasty thirty one as we speak.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
You know, that's a lot better than what they were
telling us on the TV last night was coming. You'd
have thought it was going to go to zero. Holy cow.
I'm so frustrated by all that. So let's talk about
e bikes up there. You've got them at air Ride
Bikes up there in that four corner shopping center. And
I had that email from John yesterday saying, hey, you
might might want to maybe check on how how these

(00:52):
things hold up in the salt or in salty environment.
So why don't you address that instead of me doing
it on your behalf? You know more than I do Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
No problem.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
So yeah, I mean there's no question that that salt
and salt air is gonna affect your bike. Uh you know,
like it affects your car, like it affects your boat.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Sure. Uh you know if you don't properly maintain it.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
And that's that's the key is you You've got to
maintain the bike to keep it safe from all of that.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
I mean, salt air.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
It creates those electrolytes that uh, you know, create that
electrochemical oxidation that causes rust and corrosion. Right, So you
know it's gonna affect your your steel components on the bike,
your your aluminum oxides, copper wiring. Uh. And again it's

(01:47):
all about making sure that you maintain it properly. And
it's not only the salt. You know, you talked about
humidity in Miami. Uh, it's that humidity combined with the
salt that really exit. So the key is and the
components that's going to affect is your electrical components. You're

(02:07):
wiring your battery interface, which can cause corrosion and actually
cause your battery to fail, drive train components, your cassettes,
your chain rings, your derailer pivots, bearings.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
So again it goes back to protecting it.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
We put a post on our Facebook page at air
rid Bike yesterday.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Matter of fact, this titled lived.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
Near the coast your eye by your invite can handle it, uh,
and we talk about how to maintain it. So the
important thing is when you're in a coastal environment is
after you ride it on the beach, make sure that.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
You wash it down with fresh water. Now you don't
want it, you don't want to use a high pressure.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Compressor on it or anything like that, but you know,
hose it down, dry it off, lubricate the chaine, use
some electrical what they call it die electric grease on
the electrical components.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
And if you can keep it indoors, you know when
you're not using it.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
And those are the things that are really going to help.
You'll get many years of life out of your e
bike as long as you do some simple maintenance.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
So I'm noticing that very or the second thing, dry
and load the chain regularly. What is regularly because to
some people that might mean once a month, to some
people it might mean once a year.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
You know, it's if you're riding, if you're going to
ride it on the beach today. I would definitely bring
it back in again, hose it down, dry it off.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
And loop that change. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
I tell people, you know, if they're riding around Tomball,
you know, every one hundred two hundred miles, it's a
good idea to clean your bike and loop it.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
And where do we get die electric? Where do we
get die electric grease? What the heck is that?

Speaker 3 (04:04):
It's a special grease that helped protect a guess corrosions.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Yeah, okay, I would think you could pick it up
at any auto parts.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
Yeah, yeah, that makes it probably get it on Amazon, yeah, right.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
The indoors is garage. Indoors enough.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Garage is good.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
The only problem you really have with you know, garages,
they get really really hot in the summertime. That's a
good point, and that has a bearing on your batteries
and stuff like that. But most of your batteries, I mean,
you can remove those from your bike and bring those inside.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
So in that case, the.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
Garage would be great for storage, to keep it away
from the salt, air and stuff.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Speaking of battery, Wayne Arrington from air air ride Bikes,
I keep wanting to say e ride bikes because air
ride bikes up there in Tomball. Let's talk about those
batteries for a minute, because I still every now and
then after I do a spot for you, I'll get
somebody said, don't those batteries catch on fire? You want
to dress that?

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Sure?

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Absolutely, So there has been a lot of media exposure
to e bikes catching on fire, and most of the time,
well I'm going to say probably ninety nine percent of
the time, Uh, it's batteries that are not UL certified.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
It's the chargers themselves that are not UL certified.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
Uh. There's been a number of articles out there that
talk about that kind of stuff, and that's the key.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
I mean, nothing is one proof, but.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
The key is to buy e bikes that are UL certified,
and that's basically what we stock at air Rod Bikes.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
There's a lot of that stuff online.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
I read an article recently about the bikes being sold
on Amazon and Walmart and they called out a specific brand.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
I don't recall the brand i.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
Hand, but yeah, they're causing serious problems out there, so
people just need to look for that and look for
that UIL certification.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
Another thing that I get every now and then is
when I talk about the bikes for hunting, I talk
about how you can get a little trailer and it'll
help you get your stuff in and out of there.
How how much what kind of a load can you
put on a really beefed up, serious in the woods
to the standing back bike? What kind of load can
you put on that thing get it in and out?

Speaker 2 (06:24):
It's really going to depend on the bike, Doug. I
mean you start looking at the motors that they put
in these bikes.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Like ro carry a couple of bikes made by Rainbow,
you know, some of them have seven hundred and fifty.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
What hub motors.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
And then we've got our top of the line which
is called the Hellcat. It has two one thousand watt
motor on the rink all will drive. I tell people,
if this thing could get traction, it would literally climb
the wall. So on a bike like that, you're not
going to have any problem haul in your.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Deer out of the woods.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
On it your deer, and maybe the guy who came
in to sit in the blind with you exactly just
rid side saddle or something.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
Right right, put a side car.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
There's now there's a there's an aftermarket you could sell
out there. I bet you could sell some do they
make them, right, do they make side saddle one?

Speaker 2 (07:20):
You know, I haven't seen one.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
I'm not saying that they don't, but I haven't seen
anything out there.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
We're getting ready to launch a couple of new products
I don't want to talk about.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Today to get them in place.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
We're also opening up a new store here in the
next sixtion. I want to kind of keep that under Okay,
I don't want to alert all my competitors.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
That's a good idea. They're not a sign out there yet.
Is that what you're telling.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
Me that there is not right.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
I haven't actually signed the lease yet, but I've got
a general area and by that I got you talking.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
About all right, Well, man, I hope it's near me.
I'm not going to say anything else. That'd be fine
with me.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Oh you'll be the first to hear about it.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
Good.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
Let's let's flip back, because I got a couple of
minutes here and I want to take advantage of this,
if you don't mind, But let's flip back to where
at the opposite end of the spectrum, the little commuter
bikes and kid bikes and stuff like that. How how
reliable and how what's the best way to stay safe
on one of those.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
So how reliable? Uh?

Speaker 3 (08:28):
You know, it's all about the components that they use
in their bikes. We carry a couple of different brands
of bikes, so we carry that low end, entry little bike.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
But from a reliability standpoint, it's not going to be
as good as the high end bikes. That was sure,
and I explained that.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
To people when they come in. I'm like, okay, this
is an entry level bike. Uh, our mid range bikes.
I can tell you all the name brand components in it.
I don't have a clue what they put in this bike.
So you know, it's all about the bike that did
you actually purchased.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
What was the other part of that?

Speaker 1 (09:03):
Yeah, safety helmet. Should everybody ought to be wearing a helmet,
shouldn't they?

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Oh? Absolutely absolutely So.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
I actually hand out to people and especially kids, because
you see so many kids on these dirt bikes and
e bikes today and they don't think anything about safety now.
They don't know anything about the the street laws, regulations

(09:31):
and that kind of stuff. So we have a program
that I hand out to all the parents. I said, look,
have your kids sit down and watch these videos.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
It talks about what an e bike is, how it performs,
how you should maintain it.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
And the important thing that they talk about in this
training is the street laws. You know, regulations from from
riding them on the.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
Street, and what's legal what's not. That sort of thing.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
Good to know, very good to know. You don't want
your kid walking home with a little ticket. You gotta
go pay, that's for sure, Wayne Errington, Air Ride Bikes
a double r ide up there in Tomball four Corner
shopping Center. If you know where it is, go seem
if you don't figure it out and go get your bike. Wayne,
thanks a lot, man.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
Hey, appreciate your time.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
Dog, Oh my pleasure.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
Yes, sir, All right about that?

Speaker 1 (10:25):
Now we know? Now we know, all right, and now
it's time to take a little break. Actually, boy, I
don't know how much more I could say about air
ride bikes Wayne, and I summed it up pretty good.
Just remember the four Corner shopping Center in Tomball. Don't
forget that. That's where you need to go. And you
can tell from listening to him that he knows what
he's doing. He's going to get you exactly what you

(10:46):
need to accomplish what you want to do on your
e bike
