Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, let's see how it goes. Pardon me, Yesterday
was Thursday night and Friday morning all Friday yesterday really
pretty tough. I lost my voice again, pardon me. And
everything is coming back, but I'm gonna have to be
very careful not to overdo it and push too hard.
(00:22):
Today is the last thing I want. No, that's not
the last thing I want anyway. I want to be
able to make sure I get through today. And we're
gonna do what we always do here. We're gonna cover
pretty much anything and everything related to the outdoors. And
as I mentioned earlier in the year, well it's only
two weeks old, but I'm gonna really try to stay
(00:45):
a little bit more focused in the front end, at
least of the program. Pardon me. All this will go
away soon. It's going away so much better. I can
at least talk. And if I start to look for
the high race, that's where pardon me, that's where it
gets a little stuck. He'll go away. And I hope
you'll bear with me and feel free by the way too.
(01:08):
If you've got a story, a longer story that you've
ever wanted to tell on the air, and tell me,
and tell everybody else. This would be a great day
for it. This will be a wonderful day for what.
I will welcome that story of yours, I can assure you.
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety Email
me dougpick at iHeartMedia dot com. At some point, Frankie,
(01:28):
in this hour, we're gonna play the Texas Temperature game.
I'm not sure when, and I'm not sure with whom.
I said Frankie a note a little earlier that we
would be playing, and at the end I put no peaking.
It's gonna be a good one to think about what
the weather pattern is right now. You got to think about, uh,
when we're expected to get cold weather and playfair. Don't
(01:52):
go look it up and then just try to fudge
a few deep degrees different than you know what it
already is. It's an honor system game. We will be
played today for a six pack of tickets to the
upcoming Houston Fishing Show. It starts in the middle of February,
is about a month out. And I chose a six
pack of tickets, by the way, because I think that
(02:14):
my outdoors listeners and even most of my golf listeners
tim relate to that better than they could to the
traditional four pack of tickets, which I think would be
more appropriate for the White Claw crew. I think that
was That's probably where maybe I'll have an event where
I can do that sometime. But I like giving away
(02:35):
six and the man Don Martindale, the man who puts
on that show and has done a fine job of
it ever since the passing of Dave Holder, offered me
enough tickets that I can do this more than once
between now and February and still have some leftover. Oh
my goodness. Oh by the way, I didn't do my
(02:58):
fifty plus show yesterday, and if you listen, you probably
realize that fairly quickly, those of you who listen often.
One of the interviews that will put in there for
yesterday actually was of the show that we did Thursday,
which included an interview at least part of it was anyway,
interview we did with a woman from the Houston Auto
(03:20):
Boative show, which is coming up very quickly toward the
I think it's a twenty eighth of January through February
first over at NRG, and that one is extremely big.
What I might do sometime today for Frankie, maybe you
could coordinate with Will and possibly figure out how you
(03:41):
can yank that interview off of fifty plus and run
it here. I bet you could do it, though you
could all your cameras stuck again, Frankie, by the way,
hang on, two things happening. Your camera stuck and I
don't have my headphones on. This make it a lot easier,
all right, So can you pull that out of fifty
plus from yesterday? Sure? Good, no problem. Let's do that
(04:01):
and we'll either play it later today or tomorrow. Because
we got into just some fun stuff about the show
and some of the new things that are going to
be out there, not like a new car, but new demonstrations,
new opportunities for visitors to really get hands on experience
and all kinds of driving and riding and whatnot. It's
(04:23):
a cool show, and I would recommend, like you'll hear
me saying that in that interview, if you really like
boats and you really like cars and trucks, trying to
plan on spending at least a couple of days out there,
because you're gonna if you try to go do it
in one day, it's going to be like my first
(04:44):
experience with the Shot show was out in Las Vegas
many gosh, many many years ago, went out there. It
was my first shot show. I felt that it would
be appropriate for me to wear boots to a hunting
and fishing industry show. Didn't want to just show up
in tennis shoes and look like a fool. And then
when I got there and I realized how big the
(05:05):
space was that I would be walking, and that it's
all concrete exhibition hall floors. About two o'clock that afternoon,
my feet felt like they had swollen to four sizes
larger than they were. The boots almost impossible to take off.
When I finally got back to my room and I
(05:28):
didn't have well, I did have another pair of shoes,
but they were just for kind of maybe just walking
around the room to keep my feet off the carpet. Anyway,
flashback to a very horrible experience with my poor old feet.
I had to just take lots of breaks. That's all
I could do. And I learned learned from that experience,
like you learned from going fishing, like you learn from
(05:49):
going hunting, like you learn from going out and doing anything.
This whatever got me this week, incidentally, and maybe had it.
Maybe you haven't it's one of those sicknesses doujoure and
literally dsure. Because Thursday at three o'clock I had an
(06:09):
appointment with my dermatologist, nothing really serious. He froze a
couple of things off of me and said, i'll see
you in six months. And then by about four four
thirty a little scratching the throat, a little throat clearing
going on.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
And.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
It progressively got worse until about, oh, it was maybe
four thirty five o'clock that I was I just had
no voice left, almost none at all. So I got
into the doctor's point. I got into the doctor's office
Friday morning. The place I go is fantastic. They are
(06:49):
very very accommodating. They keep appointments open so that you
can get in when you need to. If it's an emergency,
you don't have to sit in there with twenty six
people waiting to get your turn and just hoping there'll
be somebody not show up. It's a fairly good I'll
tell you about them if you ever want to know
(07:10):
some place to go in southwest Houston and get in fast. Anyway,
I get in there yesterday morning. I see a doctor
that I like a lot, and I see, I've seen
most of them in there because sometimes I just have
to take who's available. But in any way, in any
of it, they got me in with a person that
I know, knew and trusted, and she sent me out
(07:31):
of there with a steroid shot in my backside and
something I've never heard of, Frankie, have you ever heard of?
What do they call it? Silent reflux? Not silent good?
You're well, you shouldn't. I hope you never do. So
what happens is it's very It's related obviously to regular reflux,
but it the the acid and stuff comes up and
(07:55):
gets farther up and gets around your vocal cords and
just kind of hangs on and you're it gets gets
a little higher and it doesn't go back down, and
you don't really notice it. You don't really realize it's
happening until what happens happens. And the symptoms. I read
the list of symptoms on the internet and it was like,
(08:17):
holy cow, that's me. That's me, that's me, that's me.
That's me. So when I went to her, I asked
her yesterday morning, I said, could it be this? And
reached right out the gate. She goes, you know, I
think you may be onto something here. So I'm on
a couple of meds, one in the morning, one at night,
and fingers crossed that over a course of about six weeks.
If I do what they tell me to do, I
(08:40):
might not have to worry about this over again. Guess
what I can't do now? Can't drink caffeine?
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Well there you go.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
Yeah, there goes the coffee that would have been in here.
But I'm on water. I'm gonna try to stick with
it for at least a long time. I did find
some there's a lot of I'm not you know. We
have deep keep decaf coffee in the kitchen. I might
make a pocket part of that might be the first
pot that's ever been made of that and that coffee.
(09:06):
I might want to check the expiration date on that
case of coffees from cats to throw out a little
alliteration for you, because if it's not expired and I
can drink decaf stuff, then at least there would be
the taste, and that might fool my brain into thinking
I'm getting caffeine and not giving me a headache. So anyway,
(09:30):
your longer stories are welcome Today. I would love to
save a little bit of voice, but I am going
to plug through this thing, and I feel very confident
that I'll be better even tomorrow, which, much to all
of your delight, there's no I can't imagine what this
sounds like on AM radio if you're just barely on
(09:51):
the edge of the reception zone. Man, there's something wrong
with the station.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
Now.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
The station's fine. It's just me this morning. But I'll
make it through and talk, and I am talking by
the way I want to. I want to do just
kind of give you a little update on what's going
on with that effort being made by Senator John Kennedy
from Louisiana on what's happening with the literal I believe
(10:15):
altercation alteration, not altercation, alteration of the Central and Mississippi
flyways by farmers in the Midwest who are greatly manipulating
their crops, greatly manipulating the roosting habitat that these birds use,
and it's all being done for money so that they
(10:39):
can bring more hunters in there and make more money.
And what they're doing is I believe, completely altering those
two flyways and risking all those birds. We've had an
outbreak of bird flu this year. As a matter of fact,
(10:59):
if it becomes aving, collar were to break out that
these places are roosting ducks just shoulder to shoulder, and
they get up and they fly around and they try
to go find something to eat. They're eating it, by
the way, in corn fields that don't quite get don't
quite get harvested all the way. And then the farmers
(11:21):
flood those same corn fields and kind of clear out
circles in the middle of them where the birds can
get in there and land, and then just start just
paddling through the rows and eating all the cornets in there.
That down here would be called baiting in a federal
game warden would be right to give you a ticket
for trying to do anything like that up there. It's
(11:42):
manipulation of the crops. That there are federal laws in place.
First that made it illegal. Debate, and then second, I've
got the timeline somewhere on all this. But anyway, it
gave those people up north that little opened a window
to the ones who are very savvy and who have
the best lawyers and all of that good stuff, And
(12:03):
so they've started doing this and it's been going on
now for about twenty years. Unfortunately, and in those twenty
years they have made it more and more. All the habitat,
all of that's been altered so much that the ducks,
many of the ducks at least, aren't coming down here anymore.
They're just not making it now. We've had, Fortunately, we
(12:24):
have great outfitters who manage their land well and they
do all they can to welcome the ducks that get here,
and the ducks that get here tend to stay. So
hunting is not horrible down here by any stretch of
the imagination. But it's not what it could be, not
at all what it could be. All Right, I got
to tell a little break here all the way out.
I'll tee it up with American shooting centers out there
(12:46):
on Westimber Parkway between Katie and Highway six. If you've
ever been there, you know how easy it is to find,
because once you get between Katie and Highway six on
West Summer Parkway, all you got to do is look
for those big old berms that have been been catching
round for the better part of thirty years. Now, largest
non military shooting facility in the entire state, outstanding place
to just enjoy the shooting sports they've got ten trap
(13:09):
and skeep fields. They've got five stands setups all over
the place, three sporting goods or supporting goods, three supporting
clays courses that are each they can be set up
as tough or as easy as you want them to.
It's sporting clays. It's like it's like shotgunning for golf,
or golf for shotgunning, any of it. They also have
instructors who can help you at whether you're hitting almost
(13:32):
all your targets or almost none of your targets. And
that goes with the rifle and pistol two, which goes
from five yards out to six hundred yards. American Shootingcenters
dot Com is website. American Shooting Centers dot com. All right,
welcome back, Dougpike Show on Sports Talk seven to ninety.
I identify as I did before when I had this
(13:56):
same or at least some version of this same situation
where where my voice was a little raspy. I identify again,
Frankie as a little horse or no, I'm best at
joke up totally. I identify as a pony because I'm a
little horse. There, I got it right the first time.
(14:18):
It must be something affecting my brain with this thing.
It' see either although I haven't had any issue. I
hadn't had no headaches and I nothing like that, no fever,
no really nothing, but just twelve hours of what the
heck is? This followed by in the last twelve or
(14:39):
eighteen hours, rapid improvement. I could not talk even as
late as last night. It got better in the afternoon,
and then I went to I tried to do a
call in order for something for my wife and me
to eat last night, and when I got the woman
on the phone, my voice said no, no yet, and
(15:01):
she couldn't understand me, and I just I finally said, oh,
come in, and she got that, and I hung up
and went in there, and I still had a hard
time placing my order. Now, in fairness to me, this
young woman who was working at the counter at this
particular place, I don't know what her deal was, but
(15:22):
she was having trouble understanding me standing close enough, and
she was she kept doing is leaving her headphones on.
She's working drive through and counter at the same time.
And I had about this much voice and she had
her headphones completely on. I'm sorry, I can't hear you. Well,
take your stupid headphones off. Then it'd be okay. I'll
(15:43):
get my food, got it done, and now we're good.
Back to the great outdoors. Where did he go? Dave
called back, by the way, we didn't run you off.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
We did.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
Frankie just had to totally reset the board in there.
And I think it ate your phone call on the
seven seven ninety. Email on me, Doug picketiheartmedia dot com.
Let me go see if I have any business to
take care of there. And I may looks like Mike's
on the crud. Yeah, me too, those crud like symptoms. Yeah, No,
(16:17):
coffee's gonna be tough, he says. That's a shot in
the arm. Is If seven ninety has any additional tickets
for the upcoming boat show, I'm gonna be working with it. Now,
the boat show and the fishing show are totally different things. Oh,
I've got the fishing show tickets in here. I don't
have any tickets for the boat show, Unfortunately, I wish
I did. But yeah, there'll be opportunities to get tickets.
(16:40):
There will be opportunities to get tickets to the fishing show,
And I'm gonna do the best you can with that. Oh,
there's Frankie's email that I totally missed at seven thirteen.
Sorry about that, Frankie. Uh, I hadn't brought it up yet.
All right, so here, let me get back to my notes.
Pardon me that I made that to their Senator Kennedy.
(17:00):
It's that whole thing with the ducks. And the thing
that's curious to me is why I'm seeing as many
people as I am. I guess it's kind of the
same with all over this country right now. There are
pretty large groups of people who think one way and
pretty large groups of people who think the other way.
And mostly from people who lived north of Texas and
(17:23):
live even to some degree north of most of Arkansas,
are saying, oh, we're not doing anything wrong up here.
There's nothing wrong. We've got it all. It's all. It's
right here in the books. Look, it's law. We can
do this. But the problem with its law. We can
do this. There's a lot of things we've done in
(17:44):
this country because it was the law that we found
out many many years later didn't work out. So well,
go back and look at some of the immigration policy
from very recently and see how that worked out for us. Now,
We've got a hot mess to clean up. Let me
get to my phone. Calls here, here they come, Let
(18:05):
me go get to Paul. Stand by, Paul, I'm coming.
He there you are, Paul. What's up, buddy?
Speaker 5 (18:12):
Not much. I've been on a Duck town your experience
that I liked. Everybody they here.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
Bring it on. That'll give my voice a little rest.
Speaker 5 (18:23):
All right. Went to Duck Unlimited banquet last year. I've
been mad Texas and I live in Fadville. Okay, yeah,
on your outer reach, I just barely get. But today
is great.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
Great.
Speaker 5 (18:42):
Went to this went to a family owned place that
been in the family for over twenty years and the
only hunt every other week that season. Wow, within an hour,
we me and my buddy we limited out.
Speaker 6 (18:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (18:59):
Man, the people were just amazing and I really liked
supporting Ducks Unlimited. Yeah, and I'm listening to your show
because you're very knowledgeable what to do is and you
don't while duck having Thank you, but I just wanted
(19:21):
to pass that on. We limited out within forty minutes.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
That's pretty solid. What kind of ducks you shoot?
Speaker 5 (19:31):
I got a bunch of pintails, mallards, gadwalls, No wood ducks.
I wanted the wood duck.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
Yeah, dog on it. Well, that's fantastic. What part of
the state was that ranching?
Speaker 5 (19:46):
That farm whatever, Williamsong County.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
I'll be doing, I'll be doing.
Speaker 5 (19:51):
It was about eight miles of the crow flies from
Lake Limbstone.
Speaker 1 (19:56):
Oh wow. Yeah. And that's a good area of a
little sleeper area. And for someplace that only hunts it
once every couple of weeks, those birds are going to
get in there. Gives them a fresh shot. Out on
the major hunting prairies where I did all my guiding,
it was very difficult to rest places because we had
(20:18):
so many people wanting to come hunt. Good for you, man,
that's an awesome, awesome trip.
Speaker 5 (20:23):
Now I'm sixty eight years old. I figured it was
my last big fling at duck hunting. I hadn't hunted
in thirty eight years for ducks. So we had a blast.
Me and my buddy, who is a military veteran. Yeah,
he just turned eighty years old. I gave that tooting
for his birthday present.
Speaker 1 (20:45):
I'll drop you a little something to think about. You
got year sixty eight and he's eighty. That fellow who
had supported the show for a long time David Pruett
who has Riceland Waterfowl Club. He's got blinds on all
all over the Eagle Lake Prairie. Okay, he's got blinds
out there that he's been doing this for fifty years.
And I took a big tour with him before this season,
(21:09):
and he showed me, I don't know how many blinds
that you can literally drive up to get out and
then and then have one guy in your group drive
the truck back down where you came in, or to
the other side of that levee or whatever, where you
hardly even have to get your feet wet.
Speaker 5 (21:28):
We didn't even They drove.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
Right up to the block we're talking about.
Speaker 5 (21:33):
They the young men were so polite, and that's the
long kids. They were the guides and they did a fast.
They treated us like family.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
Nice.
Speaker 5 (21:44):
They picked up all our luggist took it into our
house to the house they had provided.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
That's fantastic.
Speaker 5 (21:53):
We ate like it was deer camp.
Speaker 1 (21:55):
Oh man, say no more. All right, thank you, Paul.
That's a great story, and it really is. I appreciate
you sharing it with us. You have a great yes, sir,
you too. Hey, by the way, you can get coverage
on iHeartRadio on your phone if you can't hear it
on the radio.
Speaker 6 (22:11):
Do you know that?
Speaker 5 (22:14):
Oh yeah, okay, get to listen to the astros most
of the time.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
Yeah, that's a good point. Well, thank you. It's great
to hear from you, Paul.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
Yeah, audios.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
All right, Dave, what you got my friend?
Speaker 5 (22:30):
Hey? Hey?
Speaker 7 (22:31):
Yeah, yeah, you sounded good. Yeah, and iHeart it is
all always clear and true.
Speaker 5 (22:36):
Man.
Speaker 7 (22:36):
Uh hey, no, I got a buddy mine Kyle. He
you know, he was in a military boat captain you know,
and uh, he's he's wanting to come here. He's out
of South Korea and U but he did some swapping around.
But he's wanting to come here around springtime and uh,
you know, do some fishing and stuff for a couple
(22:58):
of weeks. What what what do you think I'm gonna
have to do? Help him get his fishing license and
stuff over. You just need his passport and stuff like this.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
Yeah, he'll need his probably need his passport.
Speaker 6 (23:09):
I think.
Speaker 1 (23:10):
I don't know exactly what the requirements are for. I mean,
he might be able to use whatever license, any kind
of ID I think will be fine, just for a
temporary fishing license. I think anybody who would anybody who
would turn him down to buy a temporary fishing license,
I'd have to ask them why exactly that, Because this
(23:32):
guy's trying to fish legally, and he's not from here,
he's half he's living halfway around the world. Just sell
the guy the pass and let him go catch a fish.
Speaker 7 (23:43):
Yeah. Yeah, Like I say, he can pile the boat,
I mean he can buy. He piles big giant ships.
He's retired from the military but doing uh barges and
still mean big giant all tankers. Anyway, Now, I've known
him for about fifteen years. He's crazy here about Texas
style country music and all that kind of stuff. He's
(24:05):
been fuming at the mouse to come over here.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
How's your how's your cat fishing going? Bring him back
up speed.
Speaker 7 (24:10):
Well, we're well, we're doing good. I'm hitting, I'm hitting.
I'm hitting a few channel cats here and there. Uh
been getting some big, big blue cats, but we've been
turning them back. Uh brim brim is uh the picture
of brim like texts used to say, you know, uh,
we're doing good on them, but I've been kind of
letting them go back and then uh my, my fish
(24:33):
that I had in my tank. I figured, uh, you know,
I didn't, I just uh the tank. They were getting
too big for the tank, so I just I let him,
I said, Audio said, I couldn't put a hook in him.
I just let him go there, just you know, I
just let him swim out. I put I took him
down to the boat deal and let him go out there.
(24:53):
And you said, see you later, you know. I mean
that was a good thing to do. And yeah, yeah, yeah,
and and I just couldn't do it. They gave me
a good time, and they were getting big, you know
them gold fishing there. But no other than that, everything's
going good. I'm feeling a.
Speaker 8 (25:12):
Whole lot better.
Speaker 9 (25:13):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (25:14):
The weather out here right now today is good, but man,
it's gonna get cold. And uh, we're into Dallas on
Tuesday for the wife getting the knee surgery, and then
after that she's gonna.
Speaker 5 (25:27):
Everything's gonna be going good.
Speaker 7 (25:28):
Then we're gonna be doing a lot of traveling around
here and there.
Speaker 1 (25:31):
All right, well, I gotta travel on that break man,
Holy cow.
Speaker 7 (25:35):
Get on with it.
Speaker 5 (25:36):
Hey, hey, well, thank y'all so much.
Speaker 7 (25:38):
And I hate a lot of people out here listening
to you.
Speaker 5 (25:40):
Doug.
Speaker 7 (25:41):
I appreciate every day somebody comes up.
Speaker 5 (25:43):
Yeah, everybody hate.
Speaker 7 (25:44):
A lot of people around here they listening to you.
Speaker 1 (25:48):
Okay, man, I'll see all right, all right, Time for
a break, and on the way, I'm gonna tell you
about Houston Gold Exchange. This is Brad Schweiss, known him
a lot of years, man. He was on the board
of CCA for many many years, and now he's focused
all of his attention again on his business, Houston Gold
(26:09):
Exchange out there between or not between, but at the
corner of West Timer and Darry Ashford. He carries he
carries well, he buys and sells gold and whether that's
scrap gold or jewelry whatever. And then he also has
a in store. He has a very nice selection of
both new and pre owned find watches and pieces of jewelry,
(26:34):
the kind of things that might be a really good investment.
I'm just throwing this out there for somebody who's either
trying to get out of the doghouse or maybe get
into a little romance. All you got to do is
go in there and you'll see things that you can
use to your favor. Maybe get yourself an extra fishing
(26:56):
trip or hunting trip. Out of the deal. Houston Gold
Exchange been around forty something years. Give Brad a call
on his cell phone. He said, yeah, just give him
my cell phone. It's fine. Two eight one eight five
one three nine five five two eight one eight five
one three nine five five. Gold went over forty six
(27:16):
one hundred dollars an ounce this week, forty six hundred
dollars an ounce. You had got a little scrap gold
around there somewhere, some piece of jewelry you don't ever
wear anymore, all your gold change from back in your
disco days. Haul him over to gold, haul him over
to bread. You probably paid about three hundred dollars an
(27:37):

Forty six one hundred now pretty good money. Houston Gooldexchange
dot com. Houston Gooldexchange dot com. All right, welcome back.
Seven thirty eight on Sports Talk seven nine. I'm a
little late getting to this guy I'm about to bring up,
but I'm glad he's available. Cliff Webb, what's up, man?
Speaker 3 (27:56):
Hey, I'm doing good. Chat wind blow a little bit
out of the right direction for this time of year.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
That's a shoulder.
Speaker 10 (28:03):
It's it's there. I got a little shot of cortizones.
That life is good, all right.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
So what's going on with your fishing down there?
Speaker 3 (28:11):
It's it's just a crazy you know. I've had a
really good week.
Speaker 10 (28:14):
It's it's just been kind of a roller coaster, simply
because we're in a drought. You know, We're we're liking
eighteen inches of fresh water and a bass system. So
it's the lengthy levels changed and all of our patterns
have changed. We've got extremely low tide and earlier in
the winter we haven't had a lot of strong north
wind to clean the shorelines up the dead grass and stuff.
So things just kind of change. So you're having to
(28:35):
adapt to you know, every year is not the same.
You got to play the hand you're delt, and right
now I'm playing the hand I'm delt, you know, But
I have some really good days. I had a really
good day this last Wednesday were we were going to
head down to Mansfield. Mansill just been on fire and
we've been struggling a little bit here and hearing about
all these great fish in Mansfield. So we've got this
big idea we're going to make a long run, and
(28:56):
about halfway through the trip, I said, man, let me
pull in here to the bay. Here, make one little
before we make that long run. And I'm so glad
I did. I punch of this flat, you know. And
I got four really good guys and they're just really
good fisherman. And on the first way I had a
guy catch a fifty two inches ec fish that wait
over fifty.
Speaker 3 (29:13):
Pounds on the tall classic more.
Speaker 10 (29:15):
And you don't, you know, we don't have those big
bulls in our bass system like you guys doing galvels
and stuff.
Speaker 3 (29:20):
This is very unusual fish.
Speaker 1 (29:21):
Fifty inches as unusual anywhere. Fifty two sixty two.
Speaker 10 (29:26):
Yeah, we had a fifty about ten years ago. This
was fifty two, a little john. Then the crazy thing
is we're taking pictures of this fish. It's just unbelievable,
you know, I just can't believe it. Guy flips out
and catches a snook sweet fifteenth on the fourteenth of
January in the bay. Were just unheard of. So yeah,
(29:47):
I go over there and I take you, Yeah, that's enough.
Took a picture of nice eighteen and stuff.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
Let it go.
Speaker 10 (29:53):
Then I look over and we got this big front
coming in on Wednesday. We're trying to get out of there.
We're way south. You know, it's like two o'clock. I
look at it and one of my guys just bowed
up on a big trout anyway, not on story short
Todd caught a seven pound trout. Yeah, after the snoot,
so we were on such a road. Yeah, Todd is
a lucky guy. Last year he caught up a trout
(30:14):
that was nine fifteen with me one ounce under. So
every time I take this guy, he's he brings my luck.
He's kind of a kidding man. It's been good, just
a little different pattern, you know, like our normal January
February stuff's gonna be a little different because the sleinthy
level is so high.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
It's just a little different.
Speaker 1 (30:32):
You know that was that might have been something to
kind of help that snook stick around too, Yeah, I think.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
You know, it's it's crazy.
Speaker 10 (30:40):
You know, this water temperature is just bouncing up and down,
and the main thing is we had just had a
super low tie down.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
Here the last few days.
Speaker 10 (30:47):
It's uh, it's very crazy to see this water gone
like it is. We had that strong northwest just blew
this water out of here.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
You got somebody got summer souls just kind of to
deal with to it, that's normal. It's gonna pull water
down too.
Speaker 10 (31:01):
Yeah, it's shoveled up really low. You know, then you're
losing all the fresh water. We just hadn't had the rain,
you know. We're just we're twelve inches down this year,
and I think we're eight or nine last year. So
the combination of two if it's changed our slimity level
a lot in our base system.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
So it's still really why why is it okay.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
But down Why is somebody throwing little John's and not
top waters down there?
Speaker 10 (31:22):
It's so funny because the top of the grass has
been so bad. Were catching on top water haven't blowed,
but it's this grass situation. We love to throw top water,
but we get these things where it's just man, you
get like two feet and you're just you're grassed up,
you know. And then we do the single hook that
want the man's field knockers and stuff, and there's you know,
we're missing some fish on those, and so we're staying
with the subsurface, the corkies of soft dimes and the
(31:44):
fall flasses. There's days all you can fish is the
soft plasticy and you're throwing between the sheets of grass.
Speaker 1 (31:50):
Yeah there then there yeah, yeah, what what about I
go back to Martin Nichols and that peat little lore?
What about that hook rides up?
Speaker 3 (31:59):
It works good, Yeah, it's good. Fish caught on it,
you know.
Speaker 10 (32:02):
And then and uh, it's funny because uh, you know,
all these guys have all.
Speaker 3 (32:06):
These different lures they bring.
Speaker 10 (32:08):
Oh yeah, and we try everything down Just last week
we're back down to you know, either using a belly
wait on the hook and sliding the hook, the tip
of the hook back in the worms so they get grass.
It's just the grass situation with this low tide is
just really amazing for this time of year. So that's
kind of what we're dealing with. We'd love to fish
Corky's and soft dins and stuff like that, you know
(32:29):
when it's uh, when there's no grass, But sometime you
just can't.
Speaker 1 (32:32):
Yeah, you gotta fish what you can't fish with. And
right now I'm with you. I would rather I would
rather shove my passion for top waters aside and actually
catch some fish without having to pick a salad all
my lure every cast.
Speaker 10 (32:47):
You know, the other day, like Wednesday, we had a
big fish on top water hit the first five feet
is a massive blow up. And then of course the
grass is up, you know, and then he got he
goes back in there with the plastic and catches the fish.
Speaker 11 (32:58):
You know.
Speaker 10 (32:58):
So the fish was still around, but he couldn't get
to it again with the top water. Yeah, that's but sooner,
just like that day you and I have on top water.
That's just you know, that's sick incredible when that happened,
that was sick.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
You know, unforgettable. I think it'd be the best way
to describe it. All right, Well, what's on your dock
at the next few weeks or you just loaded up?
Speaker 10 (33:21):
Yes, sir, I'm uh, you know, this time of year,
I'm just I'm just hammered, you know, trying to finish
up deer season. I'm may go sitting in the deer
blind one time, one more time this afternoon, but uh,
you know, this this week coming up, this is the
time of year for me.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
This is uh, you know, I.
Speaker 10 (33:35):
Don't really care about fishing a whole lot in the summer,
but this time of year, I like to be out
there as much as my body will let me. And
that's a problem. Doug, at my age, the old dog
just can't get out and hunt like he used to.
You know, I have to have to fish a few
days and lay around, lick my wounds.
Speaker 1 (33:48):
Different even even gosh, even something as relatively not as
demanding as as standing in a boat all day, but
even or waiting, just riding around in a golf cart
and hitting golf shots. When I'm done and I drive home.
By the time I get home, it's not that long
a drive either. I just I have a stand up
(34:08):
real slow and let everything stretch back out. So fanthetic.
Speaker 6 (34:13):
Man.
Speaker 10 (34:14):
It's like when you see we got caught, you know,
forty five miles out and had to run against the
north wind, even with my halfway seats. We got beat up,
but it was worth it. We had a couple of
fish in the seven pounds. We had that big red,
the big smoke, and it just you know, we pulled
a rabbit out of the hat. We had several five
pound trouts, so wow, you know, we and we didn't
have to run to Mansfield. And that's what a locks
so many people down in Fort Mansfield right now. It's
(34:35):
ridiculous simply because the water, the water is just right,
you know, the right amount of slinity and stuff. So
it's just but it did take a lot of pressure
off my baby. That's kind of a good thing. I'm
not seeing near the boats I normally do.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
That's really good there for sure. Man, how many people
you think drive by a fish almost every time they.
Speaker 10 (34:53):
Go, Oh my god, I love these guys run ninety
five miles and are how fast.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
Can you run by? I say, eight pound trout?
Speaker 1 (34:59):
You know, yeah, they gonna be jumping out of the
water and you never see him.
Speaker 10 (35:04):
I like the guy here for a while back. It's
got burned down the shore line about eighty miles an hour.
Then about four minutes after he left, about five pop
up slicks popped up where he burned those fish, and
they made and they and what they did, they they
had a big moment their stump and they yeah in
their stomach and they made a little and they kne
little burp up stick and we found them just because
of him. We walked over we weren't shallow enough. We
walked over there and captive water and we host him
(35:26):
about twenty minutes after he left. But he was going
so fast he didn't you know, he never saw him nothing.
He just ran right through there.
Speaker 1 (35:31):
Yeah, you got to focus on the road. When you're
doing ninety a little gentleman speed, you can look at
the shorelines and see what's going on. Yeah, man, it's
always good to hear from you, Cliff. I'm glad you're
still out there grinding every day. It sounds like a
lot of fun.
Speaker 10 (35:49):
I am, buddy, I'm missioning you. I hope you get
to come down and fish. I shirt your treasure those
days we had together, keep an eye.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
Out for a day that we could do something, man,
and I'll try to pop down there.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
Oh that would be awesome.
Speaker 1 (36:01):
Yeah, I really would. I think that'd be a lot
of fun. Man, Try to get down there on a
day when we didn't have to run away from cold
and wind and fog.
Speaker 10 (36:10):
The fog is just that's one thing I'm just getting.
It really bothers me. As I'm older. I just don't
do the fog anymore. That fog is there's so many
accidents happening in the fog right now. These guys are
running with their stereos on with the GPS line and
they can't hear anybody yell at you.
Speaker 3 (36:25):
They're in the water.
Speaker 5 (36:25):
Now.
Speaker 10 (36:26):
That's a problem is they are to do something about
you can't use your stereo during fog or something, because
I hate to hear that booming noise. It's coming to words,
you know where it's coming from, and they can't hear.
Speaker 3 (36:35):
You yelling to get out of the way.
Speaker 10 (36:36):
So you know, that's just become a problem. The fog
and the stereos have become a little problem down here.
Speaker 1 (36:42):
Well, in combination with the boats being able to run
that speed in a foot and a half of water
where you're.
Speaker 3 (36:47):
Waiting, that's exactly the problem.
Speaker 5 (36:49):
Right.
Speaker 1 (36:50):
They're windy day, a little bumpy out in the middle.
Let's just run a shoreline at ninety and see what happens.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
Well, I get around what I'm doing now.
Speaker 10 (36:57):
If the fog cools on me, I just go to
the real head heavy rocks and get sure where nobody
can run.
Speaker 3 (37:02):
Nobody can run over me in the rocks. I ain't
gonna I'm not gonna get to me here.
Speaker 1 (37:08):
And if they're coming that way, you'll darn sure know
they're coming because you'll hear everything break it apart.
Speaker 3 (37:13):
Yeah, that's it. You'll hear them explode.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
Oh good, all right, Cliff, tell them where they can
find you.
Speaker 3 (37:18):
Man, Okay, all right, Doug.
Speaker 10 (37:20):
I'm Maderia called three six one ninety four nine zero

Speaker 3 (37:24):
Really appreciate the call, Doug. Thanks again, man.
Speaker 1 (37:27):
Anytime you know that, I'll call you back some more.
Let's see why buddy, Thanks Audios, good guy. All right,
we gotta take quick break. Ran a little late in
this this segment. OOPSI daisy okay, Timber Greek Golf Club

and friends with twenty seven holes. Great variety of holes too,
and they're all very playable. I never call any golf
(37:48):
course easy, because golf's not an easy sport, but they're
very playable and very comfortable, and you'll probably shoot a
better score than you have lately on other courses, maybe,
which will make you feel good, make you want to celebrate.
Go back into the grill and get something nice to eat.
Maybe get yourself an adult beverage if you're an adult,
got a good teaching staff if you want to get
better and earn your way to that adult beverage. Or
(38:11):
you can just go out there and keep playing like
you play with your buddies, keep playing by the rules.
You and your buddies play wise and enjoy yourself there.

walks it out, puts it in the back of your
truck and says, have fun. Go to Air Ride Bikes.
Let Wayne Errington and his staff talk to you about
all the different options you have with e bikes. There
(38:55):
are little bitty commuter models that are great for kids,
or great for getting an adult to the grocery store
for one little bag of stuff that you forgot on
the big run, maybe to the drug store to get
your pharmacy stuff, or some of the really bigger, heavy
duty bikes that will get you anywhere and everywhere on
any deer ranch you've ever been on, up and down

I think my voice is kind of settling into where
it's gonna be most of the morning here. It's not
gonna be totally fixed during this show, I don't think,
because I'm just kind of pushing it a little too hard.
But neither is it going to be. I don't feel
like it's gonna get worse. I hope I'm not chinxing
(40:19):
myself while I've still got some yap. Let's go talk
to Mike. Let me get this cursor up here, got it?
What's up Mike?
Speaker 6 (40:26):
Morning, young man, Good morning.
Speaker 4 (40:29):
Glad to hear you on the man, boy, you and.
Speaker 1 (40:32):
Me both, Man, I'm gonna be okay. This one. This
was it started and then went into remission. Whatever it
is like in twelve hours.
Speaker 4 (40:42):
It was the craziest thing, really was weird' Let's hope
it's over with by tomorrow morning.
Speaker 3 (40:48):
Amen.
Speaker 4 (40:48):
How about that, listen, I wanted to pass along something
for you to talk to Cliff about. The next time
he calls sure, tell him to get that shoulder fixed,
or the next time he gets out on that surfboard,
all he's going to be able to do is paddling circles.
Speaker 1 (41:07):
Man, I gotta admire that guy.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
He is.
Speaker 1 (41:11):
He is just tough as nails. Man, He's just tough
as nails.
Speaker 4 (41:16):
I got a quick story for you. A couple of
years ago, we went down on the King to hunt
quail father in law who is well, I don't know.
I guess he was fifteen years older than I am.
And he's got two English pointers and we're, you know, hunting,
(41:39):
and we got a little far away from the car
and the dog trailer. Yeah, And on the way back
it got dark pretty quick. We're walking down the road
next to the fench line. He's fifty sixty yards ahead
of me with the dogs, you know, And I got
no flashlight. I'm just, you know, all by sound. And
(42:01):
all of a sudden, I hear this and I knew.
I knew right away what it was. And I stopped
dead my crash, and I took one step one way
to see which way that snake was, and I knew
I was walking the right way, and I said, well,
let me try one more step the other way. And
(42:22):
I took a step the other way, and he started
buzzing again. I said, no, that's not the way to go.
So I learned a good trick. He'd take a little
maglike with you when you're out hunting.
Speaker 1 (42:34):
And you didn't know that trick until then.
Speaker 4 (42:37):
I was there to it. I was there to it.
I learned real quick. Though.
Speaker 1 (42:43):
I'll tell you what, and I'll tell you something else
that a younger person wouldn't think about. That was, well,
why didn't you just pull out his phone? And that's
cute and all, but in a situation like that. I
don't want to have to try to fumble with my
phone to turn on the light. I want to do
that that many mag out hit that button and see
where the heck that snake is.
Speaker 4 (43:04):
I got one little quick story. Sure, I was, I
guess about fifteen sixteen years old. They were fished salt
water before on vacation with my father and mother, and
we were in Pascagoula and we were down rented a
little outboard boat from one of the dealers there and
(43:25):
went out and we dropped the anchor. Sure, I'm fishing
with a seven and a half foot rod, and you know,
threw a shrimp over the side with a weight and nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing.
Then about ten minutes later, something hit my line and
it was like pulling up a handle off the body.
(43:47):
And after you know, me straining and my father laughing
at me, and my mother laughing at me, you know,
and I'm, you know, really struggling to get this fish out. Sure,
pulled up a doormat size founder nice, and I was
I'll tell you one thing that was the best eating
(44:07):
fish had.
Speaker 1 (44:09):
Yes, revenge for breaking your back, I had it.
Speaker 4 (44:13):
I had a great time. And that's what hooked me
on salt water fishing.
Speaker 1 (44:16):
That's that's a pretty good one to get hooked on.
Speaker 5 (44:18):
Mike.
Speaker 1 (44:19):
Thank you all Ea Spam for calling. I love your stories.
Speaker 4 (44:22):
Hanging there man, Good day.
Speaker 1 (44:23):
All right, audios, all right, we've made it to the
top of the hour. On the way out here, I'm
going to tell you about that Houston Auto Boative show
January twenty eight through Feb one over there at the
the NRG Center. Gonna just gonna be huge. I think
I'm trying to get that interview pulled up that I
did Thursday, so I may rerun it either today or
(44:45):
tomorrow in this show, and probably today maybe in the
nine o'clock hour. They're going to have off road adventures
out there. Realized, and I asked the woman who I
was talking to, So, now, how much does it cost
to participate in these? Just get in line, and it's
it's not going to be like going to some giant,
major theme park where there's gonna be lines down the block.
I don't think it'll be kind of a more casual
(45:06):
thing because most people will be inside looking at all
the new stuff, and they might beature out there to
kind of see how it is to run a side
by side over kind of a little course of some
sort or maybe I don't know. There's a lot of
things in there, and she talked about them in that interview.
You'll hear more about that, and I'll try to find
out more. You can really find out all you need
to find out. They're going to have I don't know
(45:28):
how many acres of space out there, but they're filling
just darn near the whole place. They got five acres
of boats, five acres of boats, all kinds of accessories
for the boats, for the cars, and just everything you
can imagine. I strongly recommend if you're in the mood
or in the mindset of maybe buying or at least
seriously looking at either of those a new boat or
(45:50):
a new car this year, plan on spending a couple
of days out there to really give yourself a chance
to do a lot of comparison of everything right at
one time. Online you can find out all about what's
going on out there. Autobotiveshow dot com, Autobotive Show dot com.
All right, let's see where this hour takes us. I'm
still hanging in there. My voice is still holding on.
(46:12):
Got a nice going back to that duck talk we
were doing earlier, and I'm gonna throw a theory out here,
and a lot of you will just go now, that
can't be possible, that that can't be right. But here's
where I'll start. It's got an email from Samy a
little while ago. Sammy says, not sure if you remember
or not, but I called two weeks ago and told
(46:32):
you about a group of us going duck hunting in
Port O'Connor. Well, he says, we were one shy of
an eighteen man limit in thirty five mile on hour
wins And you know what I wrote back, great trip?
Who missed? Who missed that last shot? Hadn't heard back
(46:53):
from me yet. But what I'm getting at with this
is kind of a half empty, half full deal for
our duck hunting around here. We have got not as
many ducks as we used to have. I would certainly
concede that, but we also have more ducks than you
(47:15):
might find in a lot of other places. Now, whether
how many ducks we could possibly have down here if
traditional farming and traditional water retention and all that were
taken back to thirty forty years ago, when all those
(47:36):
birds as the snow and the ice made it impossible
for them to find food. They had to come down here.
And I personally believe there's no reason for me to
say that because it's like somebody is saying. In my opinion,
I think that if we did that, those birds would
(47:59):
be allowed to revert to their natural thousands of years
flyways and find the food they needed in a place
that was not artificially cooked up to be comfortable, but
just that is comfortable the way nature makes it. People
have a way of really kind of imposing their will
(48:25):
on nature. We build things in places. I don't want
to get into development because everybody has has a right
to a place to live. And as long as we're
making more people, we're going to need more housing, There's
no question about that. But when it comes to recreational
activity interfering with the natural movement of millions of ducks,
(48:52):
and I got to kind of stop and think about it. Oh,
by the way, I told Frankie, we were going to
play Texas temperature game in this segment. So if you're
interested in taking a swing at what the temperature is
right now in the state of Texas, the current high
and the current low, you'll be playing for a six
pack of tickets to the fifty first Annual Fishing Show
(49:12):
that is coming up in mid February. And I did
a six pack, like I said earlier, because I felt
like for this audience that was more appropriate than a
four pack, which is traditional for ticket giveaways. And the
reason for not using a four pack is because that's
for that's for what is it called white claw? Yeah,
white claw drinkers. I know some of them. Anyway, get it, Like,
(49:37):
get on the phone seven one three two one two
five seven ninety if you were interested in a six
pack of tickets to the Houston Fishing Show coming up
February eighteenth through the twenty second in the GRB Downtown.
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety. We'll
get to that as soon as it pops up. Somebody
wants to go to that show? Uh, I'm looking through
(50:00):
I decided I was going to start kind of glancing
at some of these different fishing reports that come out,
and a lot of the stuff from parks and Widlife Department,
I don't I sometimes don't put a lot of stock.
And this is based on what I learned when I
was doing the fishing reports for the Houston chronicle many many, many,
(50:22):
many many years ago. When I was doing those, I
was making six' eight calls a morning and then translating
that to about fifty sixty, words maybe seventy five on
a good day for a good spot per, location to
let people know what was going. On AND i had
(50:44):
an honor system deal with the fishing, guides AND i, said,
Look i'm not asking you to tell me where your
best fishing. Is i'm asking you to tell me where
somebody who reads that paper and loves to fish and
isn't really that great at it, YET i want to
know where they can go and catch a couple of
fish and be happy and have a little sun to
eat that. Evening and so long as they kept that
(51:07):
up with, ME i kept them in the rotation WHAT i, found,
though AND i would eighty six. Them i'd get him
out of there. Immediately when some of these guys were
telling me they were fishing. Here WHEN i would have two,
guide two other guides from that same base system or
same lake call me that evening and say he wasn't there.
(51:28):
YESTERDAY i fished right next to him and he was
fifteen miles from, there and they just get out my,
eraser scratch that one, off or my delete my delete.
KEY i. WAS i was right on the tail. End
they had just gotten new fancy computers at the paper
(51:48):
WHEN i started, there up until maybe weeks it WAS
i think prior it was some, typewriters and, boy what
a train wreck that could. Be it was hard enough
with those new. Computers sometimes you'd get ninety done on
a column and then hit, save and you knew you
hit the right keystrokes there, weren't but it was very rudimentary,
(52:11):
equipment and the whole thing was just boof, going, ah
here we, go here we. Go we got a, Player,
andre what's, up?
Speaker 3 (52:20):

Man the low temperature in the state Of texas right.
Now and the REASON i said it kind of changed
a little bit is because, earlier right up in The
panhandle at Why, gosh don't do this to.
Speaker 16 (55:16):
Me now in The panhandle At, dalhard earlier it was nineteen,
degrees and WHEN i opened up the map and refreshed,
It dalhart is warmed up to a ball me twenty.
Speaker 1 (55:28):
One, however now where, Gosh i've got to move this
map down a little. Bit now In marfa out there
in Far West, texas nineteen degrees for the low and
the high in the whole state Of, texas because the
front has moved through all the way down in The
Rio Grand valley At Port isabella And, brownsville it's sixty.

no you even, Calculated. Frankie you even.
Speaker 14 (56:37):
Calculated it might have been too strong of a, word
but you know.
Speaker 1 (56:43):
You make let me let me Refra you even made calculating.
Sounds that's close. Enough no calculation. Necessary over At El Kubano, Cigars,
no you're gonna get a fine cigar or boxes of,
them or custom banded cigars or custom box cigars for
big events in your life in that of your, company
or maybe get somebody getting, married somebody getting une, married,
(57:05):
dud whatever it is that you want to celebrate with a, nice,
beautiful wonderful cigar From El kubano over there In Texas,
city one of only four dozen manufacturing facilities in the entire,
country And manny uses nothing but the best. Tobaccos they've
got a new one in there, now Actually cuban seated
tobacco grown In Central. America and these tobaccos come up
(57:28):
in these, big big boxes and they're wrapped in those
big burlap sacks or whatever it IS i can't remember,
now and then they have to be, aged and you
just have to wait forever and, ever and finally it's.
Time manny knows all about. THIS i, don't BUT i
just got to see the big tour and they start
rolling those cigars in there at The Texas City Smoking,
lounge and they ship out, hundreds sometimes more than a
(57:53):
couple of thousand cigars a week out of that one small.
Location there's a second smoking lounge over In League, city
More havana style, really which makes many feel at, Home i'm.
Sure and it's just a building with two big garage,
doors one on either, side and they just sling them
open to the comfort level of the. Day maybe it's
(58:15):
a little cold outside like it's going to be for
the next few, days they won't open them a whole.
Lot maybe get a little heater going in. THERE i don't,
know but it'll make it a nice just a nice
comfortable place to have a cigar if you spoke cigars,
REGULARLY i strongly recommend going by there at least. Once
Downtown Downtown Texas city is not Like. Houston it's just
one street and it's just. There they are on the
(58:36):
side of the. Road just pull in right out, front
go in there and start making your selections and letting
them tell you exactly what they make in there and
why you're gonna save so much money on your best
cigars because there's no middleman in there to take his
little dollar stick here dollar. Stick there no distributor dollar,
stick no retailer dollar. Stick you're buying right from the

gonna tell you in a. Minute what's? Up?
Speaker 3 (01:01:17):
Rick go, Morning, doug good.
Speaker 13 (01:01:20):
MORNING i was listening to the gentleman this morning who's talking.
Speaker 8 (01:01:24):
About, uh duck hunting Around Lake lanstonone, up Around. Mahal,
yeah and uh he had said they had saw or
shot some. Mallards, now last week we were talking about
greenheads and how they hadn't made it down here and
nobody was seeing.
Speaker 13 (01:01:43):
Them in my correct on, that.
Speaker 2 (01:01:45):
Okay, YEAH i made the comment last week that the
mallards and my travels were you had to from your,
office you had to hit.
Speaker 8 (01:01:56):
About one hundred and fifty.
Speaker 6 (01:01:57):
Miles that comment too well with an.
Speaker 1 (01:02:00):
Asterisk, Okay because WHEN i was hut in the prairie
long long, ago far before whatever's going on now is going.
On all it took was two or three really good
coal fronts starting in Mid, november and we'd start to
see some. Mallards but go, ahead, well.
Speaker 13 (01:02:16):
We've had lots of confronts over the last ten years down.
Here we had mallards down here SOUTH i.
Speaker 1 (01:02:21):
N, yeah that's good point That i've.
Speaker 6 (01:02:23):
Heard but, anyway.
Speaker 8 (01:02:28):
He had mentioned late, lambstowaheya and uh he had mentioned Ose.
Bird well this past WEEK i was two times as
the crow.
Speaker 13 (01:02:36):
Lies as he, SAID i was due west to. Him,
yeah he drew.
Speaker 8 (01:02:39):
A line from from there To cameron across the little.
BRASSES i was up and down on a ranch On Little,
brasses and it was had a whole lot of little you,
know half, acre quarter, acre half acre acre stock ponds
and they were loaded with that's.
Speaker 1 (01:02:55):
My favorite kind of places To mallard Oh.
Speaker 8 (01:02:57):
Man so, yeah pond. Jumping but my point IS i
was thinking about. That the last three days we've had
good wind, up but it's been out of the. SOUTH i,
mean like before yesterday was it or yesterday it was
cold wind, though but it's out of the south in the.
Morning but you, know like yesterday and last night and
(01:03:20):
actually probably maybe Even, THURSDAY i, thought you know, what
there may be some mallorts to get down here BECAUSE
i measured it before a call AND i was guessing
right from your office To limestone is right at one
hundred and.
Speaker 13 (01:03:33):
Fifty, Miles, yeah, Right and you, know if.
Speaker 8 (01:03:36):
They'd have caught some.
Speaker 13 (01:03:37):
Of this wind that took off now or they came.
Speaker 8 (01:03:40):
Down maybe the other real quick comment WHILE i was
on this.
Speaker 13 (01:03:44):
Ranch, Now i've.
Speaker 8 (01:03:45):
Said this three or four times this year that in
our neck of The, woods which to me and Our
neck of The woods is about one hundred and fifty
miles from, here And i've said three or four Times
i've seen the best Year i've seen this year, time
and then this week.
Speaker 13 (01:04:03):
WHILE i was up, THERE i saw the best to.
Speaker 8 (01:04:08):
Date AND i THOUGHT i was taking pictures of him
rapid fire AND i was, clicking uh video holding.
Speaker 1 (01:04:16):
Off i've done, that, Man oh, god.
Speaker 13 (01:04:20):
Nothing but, anyway that WAS i really wanted.
Speaker 5 (01:04:25):
Him on a for a.
Speaker 8 (01:04:27):
Picture man is just a really good looking.
Speaker 1 (01:04:30):
Deer i've been, there done, that, Man and you look
down and let me see WHAT i. Got let me
see WHAT i.
Speaker 13 (01:04:34):
Got you got, NOTHING i know that's that's WHAT i,
got was. Nothing but, anyways, hey.
Speaker 8 (01:04:42):
Keep everybody's duck, cutting or for still people duck, cutting
keep your keep keep your hopes up to.
Speaker 5 (01:04:48):
Seat you, KNOW.
Speaker 1 (01:04:50):
I would, contend AND i kind of got off the
subject a little, earlier BUT i would Contend rick that
there there's actually possibly a a little bit of a
lack of pressure because so many people just THINK i
don't want to go because we don't think there's any,
ducks but the people who are going are shooting.
Speaker 8 (01:05:11):
Ducks, yeah but it's also it's just limited access as
part of the. Problem and you, know it's just LIKE
i think the, DEER i think the ducks are like
these deer.
Speaker 5 (01:05:23):
THAT i keep. Seeing, okay.
Speaker 8 (01:05:26):
Why is the deer getting bigger and? Better it's because
of lack of. Pressure why is there lack of? Pressure
there's lack of opportunity to harvest deer and are ant,
restrictions And i'm not knocking. THOSE i like, those BUT
i think you, know you, know, now how come there's
the deer.
Speaker 13 (01:05:43):
POPULATION i, mean.
Speaker 8 (01:05:45):
Like, Today i've drove about seventy five. MILES i, Know
i've seen a hundred deer out there and just hate
they ain't counting in the. Woods so why is? That
it's just lack of lack of. Opportunity and WHAT i
mean by that is landowners just. Won't they don't least
like they used.
Speaker 1 (01:06:04):
To well that's a good, point because they.
Speaker 8 (01:06:09):
Don't there are two reasons.
Speaker 1 (01:06:12):
Why but go, Ahead WELL i WAS i was gonna
kind of start, it tee it up for. You they
don't because they're scarce. Companies somebody's gonna go out there
and break their leg and.
Speaker 13 (01:06:19):
Sow that's.
Speaker 6 (01:06:22):
One the other.
Speaker 8 (01:06:23):
One the second the second one is they least the
properties for years and years and years to you, know
two and three years hunters and bottom line is, uh
the less these at least these these properties for hunting they.
Speaker 5 (01:06:39):
Don't take care.
Speaker 1 (01:06:40):
Of that's that's something else that's coming up more and
more THAT i honestly believe that this Is it's a
transition that had to happen over a long period of
time because a lot of the people who are coming
in here now and leasing up these places and paying crazy.
Money the farmer or the, rancher how can they resist
GETTING x and an ache when they were only getting
(01:07:00):
about HALF x for the last twenty. Years they take
the money and then realize that these people are coming
not With they're just Not they're not raised the Way
texans are raised to respect other people's private. Property they
think that just because they've got a key to the,
gate they can throw their stuff out the, window they
(01:07:22):
can leave trash piles here and just do whatever they.
Want AND i don't blame a landowner who's burned like
been burned like that a few.
Speaker 8 (01:07:30):
Times, WELL i don't. EITHER i see it first ten
almost on a daily, Basises LIKE i tell, people whether
they lease it or, not if you want to throw
your trash on the ground out here on this, lance
and go, ahead but you pick it.
Speaker 11 (01:07:41):
Up you pick it up before you.
Speaker 1 (01:07:43):
Leave, yeah, well go, ahead but you'll only do it.
Once you know that.
Speaker 8 (01:07:47):
That don't let me catch it out.
Speaker 13 (01:07:49):
There don't let Me that's WHAT i.
Speaker 8 (01:07:51):
Say you want to drop it on the ground around
the campous AND i don't, care and that shit do
WHEN i get.
Speaker 1 (01:07:57):
There that's that's part of what's happened over the last
twenty five years with this uh me me me. Attitude
you be, you nobody can tell you what to. Do
you're you're in charge of your own, this that and the.
Other and you see it on golf courses. Too these
guys will will be making a mess or playing super.
Slow and UH i talk to these pros all the. Time,
(01:08:19):
yeah we went out and tried to move this group
ahead for. You the guys up there three holes ahead
who have nine holes open in front of, them and
they just told us we had we paid our, money
we can play as slow as we. Want and fortunately
most of those guys get booted right off the. Course
they do. That but you can't do that when a
guy signed the lease and paid you a bunch of.
Speaker 13 (01:08:37):
Money DO i have one moment on?
Speaker 1 (01:08:41):
That, yeah real.
Speaker 3 (01:08:41):
Quick you KNOW a.
Speaker 8 (01:08:43):
Big problem is an owner leases in good faith the
hunter the. Group at least did they get lights because
the owner don't go out there maybe once two.
Speaker 13 (01:08:56):
Or three times a.
Speaker 1 (01:08:57):
Year oh, yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:08:58):
They get real, company getting really.
Speaker 13 (01:09:01):
You, know abusing the.
Speaker 5 (01:09:03):
Ranch.
Speaker 8 (01:09:04):
Right oh, well we'll pick all that.
Speaker 13 (01:09:05):
Crap up from this.
Speaker 8 (01:09:06):
Weekend we'll pick it. Up you, know we're gonna be
back in three. Weeks so what they forget about is
between when they leave and when they come, back they
have you, know five days of thirty mile an hour. Wins,
yeah now your feetsacks and everything else miles down the
road hung in a.
Speaker 11 (01:09:22):
Fence.
Speaker 8 (01:09:22):
Yeah now the cows are eating and the cows are
choking and. Dying now they won't, say, Well i'm not
leasing the. Property you've killed my cow man's cows with
hate string or.
Speaker 13 (01:09:33):
Whatever, yeah that's ALL i got.
Speaker 1 (01:09:36):
Off, no, No, no that's a good soapbox to be
on because it brings up a really good. Point, THAT'LL
i guarantee you that's gonna come up. Again, Rick thanks.

Speaker 3 (01:11:32):

Speaker 1 (01:11:33):
No, no you're making sure all? Right welcome Back Doug
Pike show On Sports talk seven ninety eight thirty. Seven
it is In. Houston temperature is going to fall today
up pretty. Dramatically it's kind of like that same one
that came through here a little while back where it
just went down and down and. Down that's what it's gonna. Do,
(01:11:54):
golly why are all these pop up ads? Here there's
got to be some way to lose. These, seriously it's
just out of. Control go. AWAY i want to see my.
SCREEN i don't want to see your. Ad how CAN
i make that go? Away put? It stop seeing this?
Ad thank? You so let me go back up to
my little chart here.
Speaker 5 (01:12:13):
And That.
Speaker 1 (01:12:14):
I'm not. INTERESTED i don't want to answer any more.
QUESTIONS i just want to see WHAT i want to.
See hold on, It i'm get it off the. Screen
we will know now they're going To oh my. Gosh
now there's a big box that says ad closed By,
google and that's all it. Says BUT i can't see
(01:12:35):
what is under. It i'm pretty miffed about. This so
the bottom line is tonight we go down to thirty
six and there's this isolated little chance of snow. Flurries
don't hold your, breath don't waste your time unless you're
north of The. WOODLANDS i would guess that if there's any,
(01:12:58):
chance it's going to be at least that far, north
and maybe. More Maybe mojo will get some of that
up In Montgomery. County but down, here don't get out
your snow. Man don't start cutting carrots and looking for
chunks of. Coal it's twigs for. Arms it's not gonna
happen hi tomorrow only fifty, seven and then we get
(01:13:20):
into kind of a little more and a low of
forty tomorrow night than forty, three fifty, one fifty, seven
forty six for the high or lows and then the
highs are all in the mid to low. Sixties it's
gonna be very pleasant and generally very nice with that
little bitty chance of rain tonight and or possibly snow.
(01:13:40):
Flurries it's not even showing anything on the map for
tomorrow but a ball of. Sunshine so if we're gonna get,
something that'll probably be in the middle of the night
and it'll fall before daylight and you won't even see.
It best chance of rain we got coming up is
gonna be what day is? That let me go back
up and, look Because i'm having a jog back and. Down,
(01:14:00):
Yeah wednesday And, Thursday wednesday Sixty thursday twenty two. Percent
keep running the. Sprinkler that's all you can. Do keep
running the, sprinkler and don't bet on flurries of anything
but missed cold Miss it's not gonna be pleasant to
be outside if you're out there hoping it's snowing and
you just to get a little misty rain on you
at thirty five degrees or thirty two light freeze like.
(01:14:23):
THIS i don't do anything at the, HOUSE i really.
Don't my house can handle. That but once it gets
my benchmark for starting to really look, around make sure
all the pipes are covered as they should, be make
sure the sprinkler caps are, on and that kind of.
Stuff my temperature for that is about twenty seven twenty,

Speaker 11 (01:14:55):
GUY i sound Like i'm about to get in. There
i've been cred all. Morning so Hopefully i'm not on
the path you were just.
Speaker 1 (01:15:03):
On, yeah hopefully. Not there was SOMEBODY i talked to last.
WEEK i can't remember who it was, exactly but had
a similar, issue AND i sent, You, OH i know
who it. WAS i sent him a text. Back he
had texted me. TWICE i, Said, MAN i THINK I
i caught your caught your crud whatever it, is by
your text that you sent me to tell me you had. It,
(01:15:27):
well if it's any city consolation WHAT i have only,
lasted not even twenty four, Hours i'll be all.
Speaker 11 (01:15:33):
Right HOPEFULLY i. Remember same, Day i'm waiting here on the,
porch testing testing the range of My Red rider so,
far and it's got closed to What i'm doing to.
THAT i KEEP i keep increasing my, elevation and, MAN.
Speaker 1 (01:15:49):
I remember Those oh, yeah they're such.
Speaker 11 (01:15:53):
Fun oh, YEAH i love. IT i normally use it
to keep on waters critters out of my. Yard they
don't hurt, them but they get the message set.
Speaker 1 (01:16:03):
There there was a guy down, here AND i WISH
i could remember his name, offhand but he was a shooting, instructor,
okay a wing shooting, instructor and he bragged about being
able to teach anybody and this this was one of
his his benchmarks for graduation. Basically but he was Using
Red RIDER bb guns and developing people's skills so that
(01:16:26):
they could shoot aspirin tablets out of the air with
those pretty.
Speaker 15 (01:16:31):
Good i'm pretty, good But i'm not. That, yeah you
brought back to you brought back the memories this morning
talking about the paper THAT i grew up In, houston,
obviously AND i knew who.
Speaker 11 (01:16:43):
Do, You Bob brister and all these guys. Were you,
know it's incredible to you, know for you how to
become friends after the years after reading The collings and.
Speaker 1 (01:16:52):
REPORT i appreciate.
Speaker 11 (01:16:53):
That, well, NO I i used to wake up in the,
morning AND i wasn't grab the sports. SECTION i only
wanted to see two. Things how many people did my
friend J. R richard's track? Out and yeah? Baby and
then what what you And Joe doggs's fishing reports were
for Living ston because this was a weekend place at the. Time,
(01:17:16):
yeah rest.
Speaker 5 (01:17:18):
Of PAPER i throw.
Speaker 11 (01:17:19):
Away you, know.
Speaker 1 (01:17:21):
You, know it's really fascinating that you bring that, up
BECAUSE i hear that quite a. Lot he, Said, man
these guys will come up to me and hadn't just
haven't even subscribed to the paper in, fifteen eighteen, years
twenty years or, whatever because And Big grimes took it
over and he did a good job with, it and
HE i. WAS i was really glad to kind of
(01:17:43):
pass the mantle to him BECAUSE i knew he'd take
good care of. It but when the outdoor section, itself
when the whole section went, away there are a lot
of people just, Said, okay we've had, enough Don't we
don't really need this. Anymore and it's amazing how people
in that industry at the top don't recognize the outdoors
(01:18:05):
as something very geographically specific that they need to. Cover
it's not like the people In New York city who
read The New York times every day need a fish
and report for what's going on around The statue Of.
Liberty but in most certainly In gulf coast, cities certainly
in places where outdoor recreation is a really big thing
(01:18:26):
like it is here In Southeast, texas my, goodness and
they just didn't see. It we had at one point
we had four guys writing full time outdoors for that,
paper four, guys and had just filled up tons of
space and we enjoyed every minute of. It don't get me,
wrong it it was. Work and to his, credit one
(01:18:48):
of the former publishers of the, paper he's now passed.
Away but somebody asked him in the bank across the.
Street he was over there doing some, business personal, business
and this guy said that they struck up a conversation
in line or, whatever and he, said, Yeah i'm over
across the street at the paper And i'm the, publisher
and blah blah. Blah really super nice. GUY i can't
(01:19:09):
remember his. NAME i WISH i. Could but somebody, said, oh, man,
YEAH i read the outdoor stuff all the, time and
and Guy, LEE i can't believe you know those guys
just must have a ton of. Fun that's all they
do is just have. Fun you, know how can you
even pay them for? That they ought to be paying.
You they go and he to our to his, credit he,
said those guys work as hard as anybody in that
in that. Building they have to go out in the they,
(01:19:32):
leave leave the house at two o'clock in the, morning
go be somewhere to get on somebody's boat at six
o'clock in the, morning or climb into a muddy duck
blind or. Whatever and and not like it was a
ton Of we just enjoyed. It it's. Different it's different.
Work AND i understand that BECAUSE i got it for fifteen.
Years it's different. Work and if you don't have a
(01:19:53):
passion for, it it really would be. Work fortunately for
all four of, us we love being outdoors and we
we didn't get cheated out of fun. Trips let me tell, You.
Speaker 11 (01:20:05):
Oh for. True, yeah they just good reminiscing their last
thing real.
Speaker 3 (01:20:10):
Quick for.
Speaker 1 (01:20:10):
Sure, Yeah i'll make time for.
Speaker 11 (01:20:12):
You, OH i appreciate. It so you, know we talk
about you, Know i've seen you a lot of stuff
too on you, know personally about you, know the floody
core AND i don't want to talk too much about. That,
yeah up up, door but, uh you, know we we
set the down on upper upper part Of Telita big.
Yesterday duck hutting my buddy hundred last week did pretty.
(01:20:33):
Good and uh based on what he where he saw
the birds all wrapping, up you, know out in the big.
Water we set up on the sand bar out, there
and we saw hundreds of, birds but no birds in the.
Backwaters all these birds wrapped up over the deep water
two hundred yards from the. Bank, wow and uh balk
of it was. Gadwall we, saw you, know out of
(01:20:54):
two hundred three hundred dust and maybe saw fifteen fifteen
green as, okay and uh hm When i'm wondering and
AND i got out of a guiding up here on
public plan because Of i'll just say because of duck. Dyancy.
YEAH i Love Phil. Robinson he's my. Mentor he's he's
the Guy i've learned EVERYTHING i know, about you, know
(01:21:16):
getting professional about duck calling. Wants but he unleashed a
group of young men and high dollar duck boats and.
Airboats you know that they're out in the.
Speaker 1 (01:21:31):
Field i'll say it for you no, skills.
Speaker 11 (01:21:37):
No, skills and like a guy like you and, Me,
yeah we'll go out of scout a little. Bit but
once we find our, spot we're gonna go to our.
Spot we're gonna build our, blinds and that's where we're gonna.
Hunt when these guys will find the, spot build their
blind and hunt like we. Do but during the course
of their, hunt they're gonna get in the, airboat their dust,
boats and they're gonna run every single piece of backwater
(01:21:59):
they can.
Speaker 1 (01:21:59):
Be oh, yeah.
Speaker 11 (01:22:02):
There's nothing. Easier and and you know A mallard ca
Being katie or the pretty.
Speaker 1 (01:22:08):
Quick yeah, yeah he get on the bus and ride.
Man all, right, hey let's let's continue this. Tomorrow i'd
like to talk a little bit more about. That that's
a good subject because there it is different, people fewer
young men and. WOMEN i see a lot of women
in duck blinds now, too but fewer of them came
up learning from their parents or an uncle or a
(01:22:31):
family friend or something like, that and are learning from
YouTube and a lot of that stuff there. Is and,
RIGHT i got to take a, BREAK i really do
pro Prob let's do this again, tomorrow will we?
Speaker 3 (01:22:42):
Hopefully?
Speaker 1 (01:22:43):
Yeah call me. Tomorrow i'll see you. Audios, yeah that's Some,
YEAH i gotta take a break. Here but that's something
that it warn't talking about because the they, could they've
become duck educated by looking at, YouTube but they don't
get the. Experience they don't get the subtle of what
it's supposed to be. About, unfortunately a lot of them.
(01:23:04):
Don't some of them get it no matter. What it's
just in. Them some of them get, it but a
lot of them. Do it's kind of Like cliff talking
about those ninety mile an hour bay. Boats let's take a,
break shall. We i'll tell you again About Houston Gold.
Exchange been there On West timer At, Darry ashford for
forty plus, years own and operated by a man Named Brad,
schweiss who he's one of. Us he loves to, fish
(01:23:24):
gosh when he's not, there if he's not at the,
store and sometimes he's not because he's got really good
people running it for. Him but if he's not at the,
store he's probably fishing down to his bay. House outstanding out.
Doorsman likes the direction our country's head as much as we.
Do if you're looking for a good investment in gold
and just, imagine and it's not going to. Change, really
(01:23:46):
gold's going up pretty steadily and has been for the
past many years. Now and if you're looking for a good,
investment maybe something AS i mentioned, earlier to get you
out of the, doghouse or maybe you get your wife
just to. Smile i'll let you again every now and,

NO ai at the, website no hard sell when you
get to the, store just a really good guy with
really good products to make people. Smile, Houston gooldexchange dot.
(01:24:32):
Com West timer At Darry, Ashford, Houston gooldexchange dot. Com
if you are looking for a new, gun a pre owned,
Gun amo in some boutique caliber that you can't quite
find anywhere else right. Now if you're looking for optics
or reloading supplies or a little bit OF, camo maybe
shooters corner down there At Palmer high went to Twenty
(01:24:54):
Night street In Texas. CITY a great place to. Go
it's owned and operated by father and son Teams jerry AND,
jtk who've been. There jerry's been there forty something, years
probably forty five, now and the two of, them by the,
way build some of the most amazing custom rifles you'll ever.
See Shooters corner is an old school gun. Store it's
what it started as. Well it didn't start. There it
(01:25:15):
had to get old, FIRST i. Guess but it's an
old school gun. Store they know their, stuff they take their,
time and everybody in there can help you with any
question you might have about, guns about the shooting. Sports
it's a great place just to go tell, stories swap
stories about the shooting sports. Too there's a couple places
to sit down in, there and they've been sat in
many a time and they've had many a story told from.
(01:25:36):
Them The Shooters CORNER tx dot. Com if you wear
a badge for a, living do you get a? Discount
WHICH i think is pretty. COOL i wish more places did.
That The SHOOTERS cornertx dot. Com all, right welcome. Back
Dougpike show On Sports talk seven ninety. More voice is
kind Of i've been babysitting a little bit and it
seems to be getting a little bit. Clearer i'm not
gonna push. IT i don't want anybody to get me
(01:25:57):
up on a big soap. Box try not. To by the,
Way frankie was able to upload that INTERVIEW i Did
thursday with The Boat show or The Auto boative show,
people and we're going to play, that probably first segment
in the next. Hour we'll get through the end of
this one and then go back to. IT i want
to kind of go back to what Fouk pro AND
i were talking about with how duck hunting has changed
(01:26:20):
and how who the duck hunters are have. Changed And
i'm not you, know anybody who's out there playing by the,
rules got the right, licenses staying within the limits using
lawful means and. Methods i'm glad they're. There, okay we
need every one of those license bires to maintain the
(01:26:45):
incredible level of resource we have in this. State we
have some of the best fishing and hunting anywhere in the.
Country and part of it is just because our state
is so big and we have so much. Room but
the other part of it is that we have a
real history of being respectful of that, wildlife respectful of those,
(01:27:11):
fisheries and in recent years things have really. Changed there
are a lot of people out there, now a lot
of people out there go to the, jetties go to
the surf side jetty on a warm summer day when
the water looks kind of, pretty and just see if
you don't see things that make you think what made
(01:27:32):
those people think that was okay to. Do they leave
a bunch of trash out. There they're keeping undersized fish
because they're very confident that they'll never see a game
warden out, there and that's only because The Parson Wallafte
department doesn't have the money to staff. Them if we
could get IF tpwd had the, Money i'd love for
(01:27:55):
him to have a game warden on every corner Because
i've witness set stuff And i've called operation Game. Thief
if you don't have that in your phone and don't
call it when you see what to you is a clear,
violation then we would only have ourselves to blame for
why they aren't as many, fish or why they aren't
(01:28:16):
as many, deer whatever it might, be, doves, ducks. Whatever
there's been a generation come into this, country and some
people from out of this country, too who don't really respect,
waterfowl who don't really respect fisheries and four legged animals
and all of that stuff the way that most, people
at least most of the PEOPLE i was raised around
(01:28:37):
to and one of the best things about being an
outdoors person if you're brought into it the right, way
is that it truly. Does there have been studies. DONE
i did a lot of research on this back WHEN
i was at the, paper and there have been many
studies done on the differences in, character the differences in,
motivation the differences long term and successes between kids who
(01:29:02):
grow up exposed to the outdoors with frequent experience in
the outdoors and kids who, don't and, frankly the kids
who grow up with that. Exposure no matter what it.
Is it might just be going to the park on
a regular, basis it might just be going for bike
rides on a regular, basis or it might be hunting and, fishing, camping.
(01:29:24):
Whatever but people who spend more time outdoors than other
people tend to do better in school on standardized. Tests
they tend to understand better that they're part of something
that's much bigger than, them and they don't turn Into
karen's who who decide that everybody should do what they
wanted to do just because they think it's. Right and
(01:29:47):
the problem we've gotten the outdoors out where that's bled
into the outdoors is some of these people like we've
been talking about this, morning who will run eighty ninety
miles an hour down the bay and just mess up
everybody's fishing between i mean them and where they're. Going
between where they are and where they're, going they're gonna
hurt everybody else's fishing all the way down, there and
they really don't. Care they really don't. Care they just
(01:30:10):
want to get to their spot so they can slow
down to where they can hear their music again and
then start. Fishing and it's similar out in the hunting
fields and. Stuff duck hunters running airboats all over the
place moving. Birds, that's by the, way that's federally illegal
if you see somebody rousting, waterfowl which is what happens
(01:30:32):
when you run a boat through, them or what happened
on the prairies a. Lot some people would see a
big old bunch of birds in the field and one
guy would go get in a truck and drive over
to the other side of that field and stop and
honk the horn and get out and wave and push those.
Birds that was thirty years. Ago thirty years ago that was,
happening and it's now that this new generation's out there,
(01:30:55):
barely very rarely. Happened, then by the, way As, LANE i,
said what Asked lane to hang? On and then when
we get, Back i'll take his. Call, First i'm yapping
and Going i'll do. THAT i don't want to. STOP
i don't want to stop laying in his. Tracks so
we'll get out of here And i'll tell you About Kobe.
Stevens then when we get, Back i'll talked about talk To.
Lane Kobe stevens, apparel golf, apparel primarily some outdoors apparel as,
(01:31:20):
well And i'm trying to work with him to get
something going on that make it even. Better in the,
meantime you won't find better looking sharper and they'll make
you feel. Good these shirts that they have for golf
and for the, outdoors they're, beautiful absolutely, beautiful some of
the most. Comfortable that golf SHIRT i got from, him
one of the most comfortable Things i've ever put. On
(01:31:41):
they run kids, sizes women's, sizes and then men's sizes
all the way up to FOUR. X you're, GONNA i
don't care how you play, golf you're gonna look better at.
It even when you shank a. Shot you're gonna look
better if you're Wearing Kobe stevens. Stuff he's got. Shorts
i'm not sure whether he has, pants might have. Him
there's a new store he opened up finally. Too it's
(01:32:01):
it's full blow running up on the north side in.
SPRING i think it is be well worth going in
there to try some stuff. On the website has fantastic.
Selections there's even kind of a uh it's not a secret,
page but just a page of clearance stuff that is
is still really really. Sharp I've i've shopped there. Before
(01:32:23):
wouldn't be my first. Time Kobe stevens dot com is a.
Website Kobe stevens dot. Com all, right nine o'clock, hour
here we. GO i Promised lane i'd get to, him
and that's What i'm gonna. Do, Ready aim, fire what's?

Speaker 1 (01:34:13):
Know, yeah well you check the box and you realize.
That And i'm sure when you were, younger you were
so focused on golf you didn't have time to get
into deer, hunting would be my. Guess but now that
you have the time and stuff and you don't Even
this is WHERE i am with deer. Hunting i'll go
sit in any stand anywhere on any ranch just to
see what's, there and if there's nothing, there that's my.
(01:34:35):
Report SOMETIMES i, Well i'm not going to say SOMETIMES
i do, don't BUT i always carry a rifle in
case they want pigs taking off or whatever like. That but,

guide with you to let you kind of know what
you could do and not. Do and, yep it's just
it's just you and. Him, really the gods there to
oversee everything make sure it's all safe and, fun but
it's you and your grandson doing most of the. Talking
and then that guide's there actually for you as somebody
(01:35:52):
who doesn't know much about. It your grandson really couldn't
have turned to you for, it so the two of
you can learn together and what a what a bonding Experien, yeah.

you want to go and share time like, that and
not just deer. Hunting it could be duck. Hunting it
could be quail. Hunting it could be any kind of.
Hunting it could be any kind of. Fishing but that
(01:37:51):
level of, interaction that intimacy with the outdoors is even
way different than what you get when you're driving around
on a manicured golf. Course, NOW i love, golf AND
i see guys out there at my club all the,
time riding around with their, kids with their, grandkids playing
golf with their, grandkids and that's, Fantastic but it really
is different to be on the, water to be in
(01:38:15):
a duck, blind to be rolling around in the mud
and a goose spread to be and that's, well if
you do it, wrong you roll around in the. Mud
if you do it, right you get to stay kind
of dry and. Warm but anything like, that just where
it's just you and them and maybe some, friends maybe a,
guide it doesn't matter who's in there with. You but
(01:38:35):
when you sit down in that place and you start
looking around and the sun's not even up, yet and
you get to see and hear and smell and feel
everything that goes with all of, that it's. Unforgettable it really.
Is and for both of, YOU i think it was
kind of really cool That lane had never shot a,
(01:38:56):
deer but his grandson already had shot a, few so
the roles were reversed in that, instance And lane got
to experience something that very few adult deer hunters can,
experience and that's the not only being able to take
(01:39:17):
his first, tear but having his grandson there to congratulate
him and praise him on doing such a great. Job
that man's going to take that experience with him to
the end of his, life no. Question nobody can take
it away from him. Either that's SOMETHING i. Love one
on one stuff with my SON i don't get near
(01:39:38):
as much of as i'd. Like now that he's, seventeen
eighteen years, old he's more like one On i'll be
back later this, evening and then out the door he
goes hanging with his, Buddies AND i can't fault him for.
THAT i was the same way WHEN i was a.
Teenager BUT i if you've got those, chances take, them
because at times something you can't get more. Up and
(01:40:01):
we all know, that and yet we still keep chasing
things and chasing, things and chasing things that aren't really
gonna matter at the end of the. Road, WELL i.
WISH i HOPE i live long enough to have a.
GRANDCHILD i really, do because that little kid's gonna spend
a lot of time, outdoors a lot of time. Outdoors
(01:40:21):
AND i don't think that'll be a problem, either because
my son likes. It right, now he's just eighteen and
just about to get out of high school and go
off to. College and once he gets back, though and
once he OR i don't know if he could who
knows where he'll, Land but he better land someplace close
enough THAT i can still go get outdoors with, him
maybe play a little. Golf that's What i'm gonna be looking.
(01:40:42):
For get that education stuff behind. Him still try to
stay in. Touch if you stop and think about. It
And i'm at an age now Where i'm thinking about
a lot of. Things when you stop and think about,
it you can't go. Back you just. Can't you can't do.
That and later is usually not the best time to do.
Something he'll always turn out that later wasn't the best
time to have done it because a lot of times
(01:41:03):
you just won't ever get to. It good, lord AM
i own a? SOAPBOX i Just i'm so passionate about
getting kids. Outdoors and it's not just for that selfish.
Reason where you and your son, can or you and your,
daughter whoever can have a picture of you standing on
a next to a cleaning table with seven or eight
speckle trout and a couple of red fish and a
(01:41:24):
drum on. It it's not you sitting there next to a.
Deer it's just the whole. Experience it's not one part
of experiences like that is gonna be something you'd rather
forget usually and even if you don't catch. Anything this
is WHAT i tell people when they don't fish a
lot and they don't really know about how to do
(01:41:45):
stuff like. That learn, together learn, together use it instead
of just, Saying, okay On saturday, Morning i'm gonna wake
you up and we're gonna go fishing down In Galveston
baby with a friend of mine in his. Boat, great that's,
Fine but what you got to do to make it
really last and make it truly? Memorable On tuesday Or, Wednesday,
hey guess what we're going Fishing saturday with this friend of.
(01:42:07):
Mine we're going to be In Galveson. Bay let's go
to the computer and look at some of the places
we might be. Fishing let's go to the computer again
On wednesday night Or thursday night and look at some of.
Them he, says we're going to be throwing live. Shrimp
let's see if we can learn something about how to do,
that and try to learn. Together if you don't know,
together and then get on the boat and you just, say,
(01:42:29):
hey we heard this and we heard, that and what
do you, think and then talk about it when you get.
Home if you didn't catch single, fish ask your son
or your, Daughter why what do you think kept us
from catching fish that? Day and they may have a great,
answer they may have no. Answer let's go to the
computer and see maybe if the wind was wrong or
the tide was. Wrong use that one experience going, fishing
(01:42:50):
you can use for six or eight conversations with your.
Kids and if you're not doing, that you're not doing it.
Right it's it's a child who matters. More it's not
the guy who took you, fishing whether it was a
guide or a friend or. Whatever you already know that.
Person they know. You it's great that y'all are out
there fishing, together but you'll see each other Again tuesday
(01:43:11):
at work or, wherever on the golf, course. Wherever your
kids are only kids for so. LONG i saw something
the other. DAY i, said by the time of your
son or daughter is like twelve years, OLD i think
you've already spent about seventy percent of the time you'll
ever spend with. Them about. That don't let it get
away from. You speaking of, golf kind of sort of.
(01:43:33):
Sideways Black Horse Golf club up there off two nine

Happen both courses had shared the huge practice facility that
they have there and they they also in the for

Com nine twenty. Two On Sports talk seven ninety To Dugpike,
show thank you for listening so very very. Much as,
Promised frankie's got it teed. UP i Interviewed Rochelle salinas
from The Houston autobile which she actually She's Houston Auto Dealers,
(01:45:46):
association but she knows she knows her way around both
sides of that BIG nrg haul over there when this
show's coming, up AND i want to go ahead and
get that teed up, now and, yeah let's go. Ahead.
Speaker 18 (01:46:00):
Right we've come together to now be the largest auto
and boat event you, know in the region and probably
one of the very few in the whole country that.
Exists and POST, covid of, course you, know people had
to adapt and change and look at what's going, on
and we realized, that you, Know houston drivers And houston,
voters they really overlap a lot more than people. Realize
(01:46:21):
and being that we were already having our event at
the same, Venue Energy, center you, know one one week,
apart we just, thought why not put these shows together
and create something really special and unique for.
Speaker 1 (01:46:34):
Everyone kier In houston and dog.
Speaker 3 (01:46:36):
Going you did, it didn't?
Speaker 5 (01:46:37):
You?
Speaker 9 (01:46:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 18 (01:46:38):
Five this is our fifth year. Together you, know we
know that people are towing boat to Clear lake Or
conroe and the need to truck or suv to toe
Those so why not make your purchase decisions all in
one place and have a good shopping playground to enjoy?
Speaker 5 (01:46:54):
It?
Speaker 1 (01:46:54):
Exactly is there is there anything that you know is
coming to this show so far that really kind of
caught your eye and, thought, man everybody needs to see.
Speaker 3 (01:47:03):
This.
Speaker 18 (01:47:05):
WELL i think a fun new edition this year is
That polaris is now one of our presenting sponsors of the,
event and they are bringing an off road adventure track
outside in front Of Energy, center right in the front parking.
Lot they're going to have an off road adventure truck
where people can ride along and really experience kind of
the off roading of the side by side utility. Vehicle
(01:47:29):
and we're also bringing Back Camp jeep and THE ram
track that are off roading. Obstacles those will be inside the.
Building and then just this week we added A Ram
monster truck. Ride Monster jam happens the week after The
Auto Boative, show and so it's perfect timing for you
to come and get the feel of what it's like
(01:47:50):
to ride in a monster truck in the bed of
This Ram monster.
Speaker 1 (01:47:53):
Truck now is all of this available to the, Public i'm? Sure,
yeah what's the.
Speaker 9 (01:47:59):
Story, Yeah we've got one ticket for the whole.
Speaker 18 (01:48:02):
Event twenty dollars gets you in the door to both,
events all of these you, know adventure attractions as well
as test driving vehicles on. Site you can test drive
everything from A, jeep Ram, Ford, Chevrolet, Subaru toyota and,
more and all of that is. Included, obviously you need
a driver's, license need to be eighteen enough to participate
(01:48:24):
in the test, drives but everything has included the super
family friendly.
Speaker 1 (01:48:28):
Event wow What, YEAH i didn't realize all that was
going to be no extra. Charge you just got to
wait in. LINE i, guess like at any theme, park
because that's kind of what you, man this is going
to be a big. One what about accessories and stuff like?
That for the cars and for the. Boats how much
attention do they?
Speaker 3 (01:48:43):
Get?
Speaker 18 (01:48:44):
Yeah you, know the boat show side has about a
one hundred or two hundred vendors of all types of,
accessories from your you, know fishing gear of fishing, poles
to live jacket to outer you, know outre outdoor, attire
as well as some really fun things like you're floating
koozies and. Things we've got tons of that on the
(01:49:04):
boat show. Side and on the auto show, side we've
got some really neat aftermarket vendors this year From Great's,
Garage Texas Truck Works Lifted. Trucks they're going to show
you how to really customize your. Vehicle put on those
fancy wraps and make them tall like we like them In.
Speaker 6 (01:49:20):
Texas, Boy and that the.
Speaker 1 (01:49:22):
Truth you can't just can't lift the truck high enough
unless you unless you have to try to park in
the garage eye park in then you had that could
be a little bit of an. Issue. Tricky, Yeah Rochelle
selina's on fifty plus here from The Houston Auto boat Of.
SHOW i read that boats and boating accessories and such
are gonna cover seven acres of exhibit, space And i'm
(01:49:44):
presuming at least that much is there for the cars, too,
right that's a, big big.
Speaker 18 (01:49:48):
Deal, Yeah, Well Energy center is a huge. Venue you,
know we've got nearly a million square feet of space
there within the lobby and the exhibit, floor and so
we divide that in. Half but between us and you,
know the boat show looked huge because the boats are
ginormous and they really squeeze in there all. Together and
on the.
Speaker 9 (01:50:07):
Auto show, side we've got about.
Speaker 18 (01:50:09):
Three hundred plus cars from twenty different brands or, so
and so, yeah it really fills up the space and
makes for a full day of activity.
Speaker 1 (01:50:18):
There, yeah WHAT i was going to mention to this
audience of, mind any show that's this big and has
that much to. See it's almost unfair to. Yourself it
may be impossible for some people to see everything they
would want to see because they don't know what's there
before they get. There and if you get in, there
you start walking, around you realize That i'm not going
(01:50:38):
to be able to see everything in one. Day might
be a good idea to, split like one day for
boats and one day for, Cars.
Speaker 9 (01:50:43):
Huh you, could especially if you're in the market to
buy a, boat because boats are on sale at this,
event and so if you're thinking of negotiating and you,
know comparison shopping and really making a deal while you're
at the boat, show you might want to plan for
a little bit more time on that side for.
Speaker 5 (01:50:59):
Sure.
Speaker 1 (01:51:00):
Yeah and you, Know i've been covering boat shows so
long in this in this city and elsewhere even THAT
i know that a lot of these dealers rely on
this show right here to to cover a significant portion
of their annual, revenue don't.
Speaker 9 (01:51:16):
They, yeah it.
Speaker 18 (01:51:17):
Is a great opportunity for, them you. Know there there's
definitely this, event and sometimes they do a summer show as,
well and these are they're they're too big sale event
of the. Year you, know when you're buying clothes and other.
Accessories it might Be Labor day Or Black, friday but
the boat show is where you want to buy a.
Speaker 1 (01:51:35):
Boat can think of a better place to buy a.
Boat although all these dealers around TOWN i talked to.
Her AS i mentioned in the in the, interview a
lot of these dealers do a whole lot of their
business for the whole year at this, show and they
want to make a deal with. You it's a, really
really great, opportunity not only to see all the, boats
(01:51:57):
but to to get a really truly good. Deal let
me get To martin real quick before we go to
the Break. Martin what's, up, Buddy Hey.
Speaker 19 (01:52:05):
Doug you know The Columbia Lakes Resorting complex and golf
course out In West, Columbia, RIGHT i.
Speaker 1 (01:52:11):
Do i've been down there a few times a long time.
AGO i haven't been in a.
Speaker 19 (01:52:14):
While, well that's it's closed. Down i'm wondering what. Happened,
YEAH i.
Speaker 1 (01:52:21):
HEARD i heard they were having some trouble down there making.
Money but it was. Fun the TIMES i went down,
THERE i had a good. TIME i can't lie to you,
there that's for.
Speaker 19 (01:52:30):
Sure, well it looks like it's all closed. DOWN i
only drove. BY i do not live out, there, Right
AND i, asked AND i asked someone the whole. THING
i don't think they do any golfing, anymore do?
Speaker 5 (01:52:43):
They?
Speaker 1 (01:52:43):
NOTHING i know, of NOTHING i don't.
Speaker 19 (01:52:46):
Understand so all you know is just financial problems in
a general, way and that's.
Speaker 1 (01:52:52):
It, yeah that's ALL i could. Guess and the last
TIME i talked to anybody about, it that WAS i
was going to go down there and go, fishing and they, said,
well you have to go through somebody else now to
do the fishing part because we don't have. That AND
i ended up getting to go fishing and it was,
Good but that was just that was the end of.
IT i hadn't been down there since it was blowing
and going twenty five thirty years.
Speaker 5 (01:53:14):
Ago.
Speaker 19 (01:53:15):
Yeah, no during the eighties and, nineties sure it.
Speaker 11 (01:53:18):
Was it.
Speaker 19 (01:53:18):
Was it. Was it was like you, said it was
a very popular, place just business all over the. Place
you had the, restaurant you had the, bar you had
the big the, big huge game, room and of course
golf and THEN i just, Wonder so all you know
is just financial. Problems that's the.
Speaker 1 (01:53:38):
BEST i could. GUESS i went to it there was a,
big big golf like, seminar two or three days of
uh you. Could they had a bunch of people come
down for This Nicholas flick golf golf teaching. Event the
public was, invited it Was it was, expensive but there
were probably seventy five eighty people being taught by eight
(01:54:03):
or ten of the best instructors in the whole. Country
and we were down there for three or four. DAYS
i went through three gloves in that training. Stuff my,
hands my poor hands were so, sore they were so.
Speaker 19 (01:54:16):
Well how many years ago was, This, oh we're talking.
Speaker 1 (01:54:19):
At least thirty, five forty years. Ago oh, wow it
was way, back way.
Speaker 19 (01:54:25):
Back, yeah, eighties. Nineties it was the. Place do you
know if they're going to try to to restructure things
and financially and start up, again do you KNOW i don't.
Speaker 1 (01:54:36):
Hear, NO i have no. IDEA i haven't heard anything
about that place in probably fifteen. Years let's brought it.
Speaker 19 (01:54:43):
Up maybe someone else out there can call in and
tell us more that they might. Know, sure who knows.
Speaker 1 (01:54:50):
Well we're throwing it out there right. Now if there's
somebody out there who's listening and knows better than we,
do we'll find out soon. Enough thank you appreciate. It,
martin thanks all, right but, yes sir, Audios, Yeah columbia Lakes,
man that was a hotspot down. There i'll put my
thinking cap on and try to think about who all
was down. There it was some high power. INSTRUCTION i
(01:55:13):
remember that And Nicholas. Flick you don't know those two
names in. Golf, yeah take up pickleball or. Something we
gotta take a little break here all the way. Out
tell you again About Houston Gold. Exchange make sure we
get this. Right AND i hoping somebody out there has
got to have a little scrap gold around the house and,
(01:55:33):
thinking you, KNOW i sure we'd like to have a
few new rods and reels for the price of one
ounce of gold that you could get From Houston Gold
exchange over There Dry ashford At West, timer one ounce
of gold you could probably go out and buy at,
least oh, GOSH i don't, know four or five pretty
good rods and. Reels we're talking forty six hundred. Dollars
(01:55:56):
forty six hundred dollars you can get for that one
little ounce of gold At Houston Old. Exchange somewhere in that.
Neighborhood it's based on the market. Price when you go
in there and golf's done nothing but go up for
a long. Time the guy who owns, it Bradsh, weiss

going to buy fishing tackle with, it he might give
you a little bit more because he kind of like
(01:56:17):
you and. Me he loves the stuff we. Do he
likes the way the world's had it right, now and
he wants everybody to get a good fair price for their,
gold their silver. Coins if you want to bring them over,
there he'll praise those for you as. Well and if
you need something to maybe get yourself out of trouble
at home because you hadn't been doing the things that
you were asked to do for the last six months or,
(01:56:40):
years maybe swing by there and get something that'll at least.

to you and all your.
Speaker 5 (01:57:37):
Listeners thank.
Speaker 20 (01:57:37):
YOU i had a QUESTION i WAS i was scrolling
the internet the other day AND i saw this thing
about a fishing rod that is. Idless it didn't have
their little eyes.
Speaker 1 (01:57:48):
You, Put, yeah the line goes through the, rod.
Speaker 20 (01:57:52):
Right have you heard any bad things about?
Speaker 6 (01:57:55):
That or?
Speaker 1 (01:57:56):
That they've been around for quite some time? Now And
i've never owned. One i've really never been interested in owning.
One AND i don't know anybody who owns. One AND
i know a lot of fishing, guides so that may
tell you a little. Something i'm not knocking it LIKE i,
(01:58:17):
said BECAUSE i haven't tried, it but my gut says
that when the line is passing through six or eight
line guides that have very slick inserts that are designed
to let that line through go through there with no.
Friction it's making that pass through there with less commotion
(01:58:40):
or less heat build, up less friction than the inside
of a graphite. ROD i think that those line guides
are the better way to.
Speaker 20 (01:58:48):
Go, Okay i'll just trying to get your opinion on.
It i've seen, them BUT i just. Didn't, YEAH i give.
Speaker 1 (01:58:56):
Two i'm right there with, you R. J i've seen
him at fishing shows and stuff like. That but there's
a there's got to be a reason that none of
the major fishing rod manufacturers are making. Them there's got
to be a, reason and that that's enough for. ME
i appreciate you, That, yeah, man thank, you all, right
(01:59:17):
thanks for calling boy Ah. Man, yeah THAT'S i hate
to bust his bubble because it sounds like he kind
of wants to try, One and, man if you if
you go try, one let me know how it. Works
i'd love to. Know BUT i Just i'm just concerned
with that line having friction all the way down the
rod as you when you put pressure on. It that
(01:59:38):
would be my. Concern there's A i'm seeing all kinds
of stuff online for some company called You ballast or
something like. That they they're selling reels for a nickel
whatever it, is and claim they're the best in the.
World if any of you have tried, Those i'd be
interested in seeing what you think about, them because there's
a whole lot of really good new reels on the market,
(01:59:58):
today some from the major manufacturers and some from a
few that are are just getting. Started but they're making good,
stuff really good, stuff and we can't get into. That
come a little closer to the fishing. Show probably by the,
way thinking back to thinking back To Columbia lakes down
there toward At Lake, jackson one of the GUYS i
(02:00:22):
distinctly remember being there on the golf event THAT i
went to Was Charlie. Epps AND i hadn't talked To
charlie in a very long, time but he AND i
were pretty good buddies back. THEN i talked to him
fairly regularly and he gave me a lot of help
WHEN i first started writing about golf at the. Paper
BECAUSE i was an avid player BUT i didn't really
know that the other side of the, game and he
(02:00:45):
taught me so. Much holy, COUNT i can't thank him.
ENOUGH i used to run into him when when his
grandson and my son were. Younger i'd run into him
at baseball, tournaments probably three or four or five times
a season where both of our, child well my son
and his grandson were playing around the same time we
happened to be. There really nice. Guy one of the.
(02:01:07):
Guys if you could ever find a guy Named Bob
Putt putt just like the club or the, stroke he
was Running Columbia lakes for, many many. YEARS i have
no idea WHERE i would look for him or find.
Him right, now a little, bit a couple more minutes of,
golf and then we'll take this last break of the.

Yesterday riley got there with sixty seven sixty. Four i'm
falling asleep even reading. This maverick, McNeely chris Gottter, Up John,
perry The Kumi kanaya all at eight under, par and
then four guys at seven and a bunch under six at.
Six that one doesn't have the pizzazz THAT i was
(02:02:36):
hoping it would, have UNLESS i can go farther down
and see some bigger, names not seeing them. Yet the
bigger stuff that's going on in golf right now is
this juggling that's happening with Live golf and a couple
of players coming. Back i'm gonna do a little bit
more research before tomorrow and maybe bring that. UP i
(02:02:56):
know that there is at least one guy who's already
cut the deal to get back over to THE Pga
tour from the live, Tour and What i'm going to
look for is what kind of arrangements is being are
me made as to whether or not these guys have
to give up, some, most or all or any of those,
fat fat bonuses they got to jump ship from THE pga.
(02:03:20):
Tour and we're talking about like several hundred million dollar
deals in some. Cases AND i can't. Imagine, WELL i
GUESS i can when you think of whose money we're.
Spending but that's a lot of. Money if they let
him walk to just let him walk away FROM i
don't see how that will. Happen i'll do a little
bit of looking this afternoon and tomorrow maybe and see
(02:03:41):
IF i can come up with enough to talk about.
Speaker 5 (02:03:43):
That.
Speaker 1 (02:03:43):
Tomorrow Alan wade in About Columbia. Lakes let's see what
he got to. Say, oh he just, said that's too.
Bad it spent a few weekends at tournaments and played
many times with my dad down. There oh, YEAH i
can vouch for this. TOO i saw one of the
biggest Alligators i'd ever seen up close in their canal. System,
yeah they had a bunch and all those the fishing lakes.
Too there were a couple of fishing lakes there maybe
(02:04:05):
one big ONE i don't, remember but, yeah they had
more than one or two big alligators in them. Too
that's just living where we, live you, know we get.
Them the rule at Black Hawk Country club right now
is if it's shorter than six, feet they'll leave it
out there because those those little guys are kind of
scared of. People but we've also had some that would
(02:04:27):
go ten twelve feet and, up and those get removed
and not just. WHACKED i mean they catch them and relocate.
Them where they're. GOING i would guess Is Brasspin State
park that Doesn't breasbin doesn't need any more twelve foot.
Alligators it's already got plenty.
Speaker 5 (02:04:44):
On the way out of this.
Speaker 1 (02:04:45):
Break Phoenix knives since nineteen seventy, nine down there On
Main street In. BELLEVILLE a year and change ago they
moved to a much bigger space where now cowboys and
manski and. Crew then crew by, CREW i mean several
several under several journeyman knife makers down, there all very skilled,
(02:05:05):
already but they're learning from one of the best in
the entire, country if not the. World cowboys been building
custom knives, since LIKE i, said since nineteen seventy, nine
and it's a fantastic place to. Go just spend a
little time with the. Family go in there and, say,
Hey doug said you would teach us how to build.
Knives can you do? That and unless there's somebody in
front of, you one of those journeymen will take you
(02:05:26):
in there and teach you exactly how to do. That
they do longer, seminars they do other opportunities for people
to actually kind of shadow Cowboys emanski and how he
works on his. Knives and then of course they've got
more than a thousand knives on display in there that
you can buy everything from something to peel At, apple
(02:05:47):
something to skin a, deer to bone a, deer you name,
it they've got. It if it's got a blade and a,
handle then there's probably at least a bunch of them
At Phoenix Knives Phoenix knives dot. COM H. E n
I X Phoenix knives dot. Com, Right welcome, back nine
p fifty On Sports talk seven. NINE i only got
about five, minutes, unfortunately but that's, okay that's enough to
(02:06:10):
kind of wrap her. Up i'm not going to go
back to golf that. Much, Yeah i've resisted and done pretty.
WELL i think it not just bemoaning my poor play
and trying to give stuff that. Works. Uh as much
AS i love the, GAME i know a lot of you.
Don't SO i don't want to just dwell on it
and lift somebody UNLESS i get overwhelmed with emails and
(02:06:32):
text messages and says, no, no, no we want to
hear more about how you hit a chip. Shot do
you think the odds are of, That, Frankie, yeah little
slim and. None, no nobody wants to know HOW i
hit a chip. Shot go Watch Phil. Michelson Phil micholson
did put up a really good tip on why amateurs
(02:06:52):
have such trouble with chips And i'm not going to
go into. It you can find it. Online it's easy.
ENOUGH i don't want to bore you to. Tears LIKE i,
mentioned THE pga tour guys are down there In honolulu
for The. Sonio but it's such a hard life they, have,
right and honestly you can say. That you can say
that sincerely or sarcastically and be entirely. Correct they're down
(02:07:16):
there for a, week most of them taking their families with.
Them they play, golf, well they're on the golf, course
the golf property for maybe six seven hours a, day
and then the rest of the day they can go
do what they. Want And i'm sure they the families
don't follow the player around all day. Long not when
(02:07:36):
you're hanging out In. Honolulu go learn to, surf you can,
go learn to, win, surf all kinds of things you can.
Do just go walk on the, beach go. Snorkel i've
been down there two. TIMES i think it was.
Speaker 19 (02:07:53):
Three.
Speaker 1 (02:07:53):
Times three. Times i've been To hawaii and stayed On
kawai all three times is. BEST i remember there might
have been one that we were. NO i think we
went there all three, times pardon, me two on golf
trips and then one just my wife and me and
had an absolute. Blast but when you talk about these
(02:08:14):
guys being down there, working they really are. Working they really.
Are and for, them that six or seven hours at
the property is pretty much like almost any other six
or seven hours they'd spend on a golf, property except
for the backdrop when you're on a hole along the. Coast,
yeah it is pretty. Magnificent and if you've never been,
(02:08:36):
there the, vegetation even just around the golf courses is just,
incredible the, flowers all of everything that's down there is
all that the hype, delivers and more so if you
get the chance. Go WHAT i was kind of getting to,
though if you're saying it, sincerely is that it is
(02:08:57):
work for, them and they are having to wrestle with
trying now instead of if you're just going to tim
bucktoo for a, tournament there's not so much involvement with your,
families and that's taxing on those. Guys i'm not saying
not SAYING i wouldn't have liked to have that kind
of a, Career but then, again it's kind of like
(02:09:18):
being a fishing guy or a hunting. Guy it all
looks fun for the time that the spectators are, there
but there's a whole lot of work that goes into.
It i'm sure they're doing. Okay so WHEN i get done,
here which is about almost coming, Up i'm gonna do. No,
No i'm, Fine i'm. Fine i'm gonna do some. Reading
i've got some reading to, do and MOSTLY i want
(02:09:40):
to dig into this duck thing a little bit. More
maybe we can bring it up. TOMORROW i IF i
find What i'm looking, For i'm going to do a
quick search for a couple of name contacts that would
or maybe a way to find out exactly what happened
To Columbia, lakes see IF i can do. That And
i'm also going to work on a call with a
fishing guid friend of mine WHO i haven't in a long.
(02:10:00):
TIME i exchanged text messages with him, though just like
MAYBE i don't, know maybe a week ago or so
from over it to being leg and That's Chuck, UZZLE
i don't. Hear he just doesn't get talked to. Enough
he's good, fisherman he really. Is he AND i had
some great trips over. There we had to tippy toe
off of about a waist deep flat one. Day i'll
(02:10:21):
never forget that there was a really big shark feeding
not that far out in front of us and kind
of working his way toward, us and we were two
hundred yards from the boat and dragging stringers a, trout
which in, hindsight we probably should have JUST i don't,
KNOW i don't know if we were keeping any or.
Not probably. Not even back, THEN i didn't bring home
(02:10:42):
a lot of, fish so we probably didn't have, stringers
but we sure smelled fishy because they were. There all
of a, sudden there was all kinds of, activity and
then all of a, sudden, nothing not a, ripple not
one little mullet, flipping not one bird, diving, Nothing and
seconds later that shark found something it wanted to eat
(02:11:04):
and came up and ate it and on, top and
we both knew it was time to. Go that. Thing,
well he wasn't far, either he was maybe maybe twenty
five thirty. Yards he just blows up on, us AND
i looked at, him and he looked at, me and
we looked back at that, boat and we just started
tippy toeing quietly as two scared grown men can tippy
toe away from a big old. Shark i'm sure that
(02:11:27):
shark could have had us if he wanted. Us but
as long as he's had those fish there he, was
he was gonna Be. Okay it's still again going back
to WHAT i was talking about a little bit. Earlier
the outdoors is the outdoors, man and if you're if
you're not out, there you'll never see. That you might
see a video of it on, YouTube but until you're
(02:11:49):
out there and really, experienced it's a whole different. Deal
it's a whole different. Deal so, anyway that's enough for.
Today we're gonna go ahead and wrap it. Up tee it, Up.
FRANKIE i will give you my usual reminders about WHAT
i hope that you get to do today and for
the next few, days and that is get outside and
(02:12:11):
have some fun with your. Family and if you, do
if you do, that if you catch a few, fish
or even if you, don't send me, pictures where did you,
go give me a report on what it was like
at At Mary Joe Peckham park this. Afternoon i'd be
interested in a lot of other people would. Too i'd
still like to hear from a few of you who
have taken advantage of the rainbow trout stockings this year as.
(02:12:33):
WELL i want to know where they. Are that's one
of the easiest, things if you're at the right lake
at the right, time to do with your. Kids but
it doesn't have to be that fancy. Either we'll talk
again tomorrow at eight. O'clock my VOICE i hope will
be completely done by. Them we'll, see get, outside stay
safe and have some fun with your. Families, Okay audios
