But my man, your team is what's toasted a week ago.
Now it's like crunchy. It's like the Texans secondary post
like the Texans secondary this Sunday, say that Kamari Lasser,
Derek Stingley. Come on, Anthony Richardson can't hit the bar
side of a barn.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
All right?

Speaker 3 (02:02):
I hope you're right. Gosh, you're such a Texans hate
No Texan's realist Texans. I have to balance out. I
have to balance out others in this marketplace that are
just drinking the kool aid and wearing the pomp pomps.
I believe there's like seven fake media members getting their
ring size for Super Bowl rings already. It could happen.
Good Panthers could win the Super Bowl too, could happen. Okay,
they're more likely than the Panthers, I would think so,

(02:24):
I would hope. So the Panthers are closer to the
Super Bowl, we're going I am holding a twenty five
to one Houston Texans ticket to win the Super Bowl. Hmmm.
Has that fluctuated much over the last time. Absolutely, I
got it in before the DIGS deal. After the DIGS
deal went down to fifteen to one? Oh what'd you get?

Speaker 4 (02:40):
Oh?

Speaker 6 (02:40):
Did you?

Speaker 3 (02:41):
Okay, we won't mention the casino don't spend money with us.
Did you at your boy at your boy spot? Okay,
that's good. We could mention them, I think, yeah, I
mean they're on the broadcast. They spend money with stan
Northfleet DraftKings. Oh no, no, we were.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
No.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
I think about about the major casinos. Well, it's at
Oh is it? Okay? That's what it's at the Rolling Rugged. Yes. Anyways. AnyWho,
So the Astros are resting in Cincinnati with an off day, yes,
which again I don't all what you can do for
an off day in Cincinnati except we went to the

(03:14):
Children's museum, that's true. And U Sakakuchi did nothing because
he just slept a whole day. That's true. He sleeps
like fourteen hours a day. That he's living my dream life. Actually,
and when I grow up, I want to be Usa
Ka Kuchi. Would you want to sleep that long if
it was gonna make me millions of dollars as a picture?
He year this was this way if you sleep from
thirteen to fourteen, doesn't it. I mean, I can't imagine

(03:36):
you just wake up and just jump out of the
bed and go run around and do something. You gotta
wake up, get a cup of coffee, and may maybe
a little harder to get a cup of coffee at
one thirty two o'clock in the afternoon on room service.
I've always said I need like thirty hour days because
I can be up for twenty and then sleep for ten.
But unfortunately our Earth one revolution is twenty four. Yeah. Well,
thank you for a different planet.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
Matt.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
Thank you for the update from Astronomy one on one,
and I appreciate that very much. I know I heard
you struggled in that class. I failed that in high
school and I hated that teacher, I mean hated her. Well,
you look like you're you're having flashbacks right now. You're
hell yeah, because I was trying to cheat off the
test and she caught me one time. But why do
you hate her for catching you cheating? Because she was
just she was mom one cheating on the test. She

(04:19):
was mom jeans wearing astronomy tea. You know what, that's
the most Matt Thomas thing I ever heard. She caught
you cheating on the test, and you got mad at
her because again, who needs astronomy in sports radio? I
knew what I was going to do that in fifteen years,
those that can't compete talk about it. I thought you
were going to be an umpire. Well, I was gonna
be one a variety of things. We also need the
astronomy to be an umpire. I guess Weatherman was probably

(04:40):
would have had needed some astronomy to it. So I
got into that game show host yes, major ling gumpire
or a sports broadcast, okay, and I picked one of
those and got it. Spencer Arraghetty on the mound for
the astro. Joe Spot's going to join the radio program
in one half actually twenty five minutes, were getting more
in a fracture gate. What are we calling it? We're

(05:02):
calling it. We've moved on, Okay, I mean I I
don't know. So we salked about it yesterday. We said
we don't get it. Apparently Dana Brown had some clarification
on with the Right Now show. Okay, conn of we
play it. Let's let's get this out of the way.
Let's go because here's the reality. It doesn't matter what
it's called, it's when it's coming back. The bottom line is,

(05:23):
you can call it whatever you want. But he just
hadn't been on the field and he hadn't been ready
to go. Yeah, So here is Dana Brown today, I
guess for the most part, or maybe just trying to
see why I am this one about the Kyle Tucker situation.

Speaker 4 (05:37):
Yeah, let me just kind of put this to bed
and I'll say this one last time because I really
want to focus in on the six and a halfe,
the Division, the World Series, and all that other stuff.
So Kyle Tucker founds the ball off on his right
shin on June third. It is a deep, deep bone bruise,
and if you take imaging from the front, you see

(05:59):
this the bone bruise that's from the front. Part of
the problem is there was so much swelling and inflammation
that there was very difficult to see what was happening
on the backside of his bone. And it took so
long for the swelling and inflammation to go away that

(06:21):
we saw once it started to go away that there
was some healing on the backside of this bone. And
then we suspected that there could have been a fracture
at that point. And so while you know, we have
everybody saying, yes, it's deeper than fract I get it.
He was out for a long time and it was
the deep bone bruise on the front where the ball

(06:44):
actually hit, but it seems like something else. We suspect
something else could have been going on on the backside
of that once it started to heal. And so once
it started to heal, we were like, look this healing.
We would have you know, we would suspect that this
was some type of fracture based on the way the
bone was healing, not where the ball hit on the

(07:07):
opposite side of the bone, and that's where the confusion lies.
And so we started to get healing.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Once the.

Speaker 4 (07:15):
You know, the inflammation and all of the soreness started
to go away, we started to see that, look, there's
some evidence in the way this bone is healing that
we could suspect that there could have been a fraction there.
But we kept focused on the front where the ball
was hitting the contact and so, you know, could there
have been a fracture. We suspect that there could have

(07:35):
been a fraction, right and the time that he was out,
would suggest that maybe there was a fraction. But when
the bone starts to heal and you don't see the fracture,
you don't see the fracture. So ultimately, look, we're glad
that we're getting Kyle Tucker back. I hope that explains
a lot of what the confusion is. There was contact

(07:57):
on the front of the bone, there was evidence of
maybe we suspected some type of fracture on the backside,
and so ultimately, look, he's through this project.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
I think we're going I'm more confused than ever. Actually, yeah,
I mean, then just tell us that there was six
weeks ago the ball went through the bone and it
cracked the back of the bone, like the handbone magic bullet.
The ball hit the front of the bone, and then
it traveled to the back of the bone, cracked the
back of the bone. And then later after the swelling

(08:27):
went down, we saw that there was damage in the
back of the bone. Handball, handball. Have you heard Kyle
Tucker's got a bruise backbone. I don't know what is
going on. It's fine, and it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter,
it doesn't matter what the injury is. That the rock
would say, cool, he's back in a handful of days. Okay, now, uh,

(08:57):
I want not go press Joe spot for because that's
Danish responsible to go through all that He's probably I
want to hear from Joe to say I'm gonna have
him back hopefully by the Arizona series. Okay, and we're
gonna hear about I want to know how Alex Bregman's
elbow is. That's what I want to hear too. We'll

(09:20):
hear from Joe coming up. Yeah, you got that coming up?
What else is you got going on?

Speaker 7 (09:25):
Mmmm?

Speaker 3 (09:26):
You ready for on Sunday? Texans Cult? I am ready?
What do you mean? NFL Sunday? We wait all year
for this? Will you? And then six flags in in
the first five plays were like, why are we watching this?
Will you mute play tweets on Twitter?

Speaker 7 (09:39):
No?

Speaker 3 (09:40):
Why because you want to get recaps from people that
watch the same game you are. It's it doesn't bother
me as much as it seems to bother. It bothers
a lot of people. And I saw that today on Twitter.
I was like, this makes me feel good that it
bothers other people. That's good, Matt. I'm glad it bothers,
you and other people. I'm chilling. Okay, well then you
won't be needing to mute anybody then, No, I won't

(10:02):
first down, run up three yards? Thanks xyz person. What
time do the Astros play on Sunday? They're a night game,
so we'll not interfere with the Okay, they're playing Arizon
at six o'clock. He used to be drinking all day then,
is what we're saying. All Right, So you're gonna drink
when they win and drink when they lose, or you're
just it doesn't really matter. What's the first NFL Sunday
of the year, Matt, Oh, Okay, you're not getting blitzed.

Speaker 7 (10:23):
No.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
I may be watching some blitzing, but I won't be
getting blitzed.

Speaker 7 (10:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:28):
What else we got going on?

Speaker 2 (10:29):
We got.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
A Southern miss coach being really brutally honest about paychecks
in college athletics. I thought that was pretty funny. We'll
play some of that today to that at some point.
What else going on? Cowboys fan is trying to one
up FSU fan. Why are we insisting on eating feces?
Is what I want to know. I don't know. It's
Cowboys fans and it's Noles fans, Matt, Yeah, I mean

(10:52):
basically birds of a feather, right, yeah, bottom of the barrel.
I mean FSU is an open enrollment school. You know,
I have to have no where can amig requirements to
get in there. I don't think right.

Speaker 8 (11:02):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
And cowboy fans about the dumbest that get out there.
I would agree with that. Yeah. So other thing, I
think we've taken care of all the proper stereotypes of
the radio show today seven one three two one two
five seven Dotty seven one three two one two five
seven ninety. If you want to visit with us on Twitter,
you may do that as well. It's at Sports Empty,
at Sports RV, and at Connor d McGovern. Time is

(11:24):
twelve thirteen. It is the Matt Thomas. Shall we take
this program till three o'clock right here on Sports Talk
seventy with a word right now for Berkeley I Center.
I have been telling you for many, many, many years
about the wonderful people at Berkeley Eye Center when it
comes to getting Lasik laser vision correction. But they can
do a lot of things beyond that. In fact, if

(11:44):
you have something that doesn't involve Lasik, but you can
get e vo ICL and light adjustable lenses. That's also
good for you. You're saying, well, what does that X stuff? Well,
some people may not be candidates for LASS, but you
may be able to find a different way to get
better vision in your eyes through ev o ic L
and light adjustable lenses basically allowing people of all ages

(12:06):
to enjoy a clear, more natural vision. So for total
vision correction right here in Houston, there's only one team,
one focus, and that's getting your vision corrected today with
Berkeley Ie Center seven one three five two six Eyes
for vision. That's uniquely you seven one three five two
six E y E s BERKELEYEI dot Com. Call again,
it's seven one three five two six eyes.

Speaker 4 (12:28):
What more?

Speaker 2 (12:29):
Matt Thomas now on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
It is the twelve nineteen on Sports Talk Center, and
I A Joe Responda will join us from Cincanna come
it up. In the bottom of the hour. I'm gonna
ask how you spend the day? I mean, do you
just not leave the room. Now, Joe's gonna have a
sweet Managers and head coaches usually get sweets. You're looking
at it, you know, really nice, comfortable size you're not
looking into a regular like regular rooms. They can upgrade
themselves so sweet if they want to. There was a
former rocket that would be done on the regular. Yeah,

(13:06):
you've had to pay the difference. Is his name rhyme
with Mames Martin. It does, ironically enough pretty good. But
he wouldn't be the only one. I mean, I think
uh diss Rawl would do the same thing. Yeah, and
Bustle Nestbook would maybe do some things like that too.
The hiring players, the ones that are making Dustle nest Brook. Yeah, okay,
the ones that are making crazy money. They can afford it.

Speaker 4 (13:30):
Me.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
I love my one sized room by myself. I don't
do anything. Yeah, I mean you get nice. I mean
there are five diamond hotels. You're fine. Oh there they're nice.
A month away from that, Get back on that good road,
great beautiful cities, nice weather, cooler, A little bit here
falls in the air. I'm looking forward to you. Come
with me if you want to. You know, the dark

(13:50):
breasts and airlines isn't a deal. Where can you buy
a ticket this week and you've traveled next month? You
get the companion passed January the march. Okay, you want
to be your companion pass. I mean, I guess you could.
My my wife can't go.

Speaker 9 (14:01):
You can go?

Speaker 3 (14:01):
Okay, you're gonna to hone your back down here, do you? Yeah?
I'm good. All right, you don't want to go, that's fine,
all right?

Speaker 6 (14:06):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (14:06):
Davis Mills gets in a year extension to his guy,
Davis Mills. Yeah, there's I guess there's just comfort in
knowing who the backup is been in your system since
day one. H knows the playbook did an okay job
in filling in last year, even though he was the
first choice in the first game and he could have played.
I guess I wondered if he would try to go
start somewhere. Who was wondering that? Davis Mills, Yes, Mills,

(14:32):
the rest of the NFL though, no, no, it's right.
But maybe he believes he could go somewhere where he'd
have more of a shot. Or does he has he
settled in to back up life. He's like, you know,
and did case keenan pull into the side, Like, look,
you ain't gonna you're not a starting quarterback. Just do
the backup life. Forever I did it. It's great. You
don't even have to do much and you make a

(14:52):
ton of money. Sign the deal. Well Ton is a
relative term. He'll be very comfortable for the rest of
his life. Yeah, but so he's good. But the repency
between starting quarterback in the NFL and backup is probably
ten to one. Oh, I was gonna say more than that,
because let's say Dre three years from now makes he'll
be making fifty million, fifty million dollars a year and

(15:14):
he's making five Think is David making that you're thinking
making that much money? I thought it was a one year,
five one year it could be. I was going to
say that's if that's the case, ten to one, that's
about what seems about right. I was thinking he was
more than the two and a half three million dollar range. No,
I thought he got I think he got one year
five million to be a guy that hopefully doesn't take

(15:35):
a single snap for the Texans. And you've got a
guy in your roster making five million dollars a year
that you know, if you play him significant amount of
time because of the injury and potential injury to Cejay Stride,
he's not getting you the playoffs. He can hold it
down for a couple of weeks, though she's if CJ.
Stroud's out for four weeks, he can go two and two, okay,

(15:55):
But if he's out eight weeks, he can't. He's looking
at two and six, could go four and four. No,
we everybody knows to see you can't high see J. Stroud.
I mean, yeah, Davis Mills y, we know who he is.
It's Joe mix and season.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
Baby.

Speaker 3 (16:09):
He's a two fifty peers twenty carries a piece. He's like,
he's a two fifty batting average. By the way, did
you see what dark Brush has sent me a notification?
It's like this phone is listening to me. Oh well, yeah,
you can turn your microphone off, go to your go
to your settings and turn the microphone and I'm going
to do that. That's probably a smart idea on my part,
your part, thank you. Uh okay, So we got that
going on. Texan's back on the practice field today. We

(16:31):
are really in the midst of this. We've got the
first week of the season coming up on Sunday apparently,
and I'm lighting for uper Confirments. A couple of broadcast
reports out there. They're saying that the college the NFL
has seen how successful labor ding weekend was for the
college football folks that they're going to probably try to

(16:52):
jones in on that. Really, Yeah, oh, come on you,
because think about this. If you go to an eighteen
week season, you're not gonna want to go into mid
to late February. You're gonna have to. They're going to
go into Labor Day weekend. You're gonna have to. They
are jerks. They already took away Christmas from from the NBA. Yeah,
already taking away Thursday night, thanks Giving night away from

(17:12):
the college giving night away from college football. They just
do not care. And I will watch and guess what,
but we don't either. I have multiple fantasy leagues where
every year the draft is on Labor Day. It's like
it's like a tradition. They're messing with my tradition, like
the masters. Yes, it's unlike any other Okay, I get
liquored up and make bad draft picks. It's a great time.

(17:33):
Yeah you were. You were sober during our draft. I
was not happy about that. Yeah, but it was also
the first draft of my leagues that I did, and
I think I screwed it up. Did you really? I
hate to hear that. I give y am. I still
it's probably the worst draft I did. Am I still
a favorite in our matchup this week? Yeah, you're a
heavy favorite. But I don't know. I think they're underrating
Trevor Lawrence because that's a that's a high total. And

(17:54):
I don't know why they only have them for seventeen
points at a six point touch? Is it because in
Miami this week? Or is it in Jacksonville. It's the
game is in Miami, but it should be a high
scoring game. And I got Trevor Lawrence. Should be fine.
I waited way late on quarterback. All right, so let
me ask you this. Uh, Direct TV, I hate you. Yes, Uh,
there's a chance we were talking about the Diamondbacks game. No, nothing,

(18:17):
wonders are coming back like your guys in TEGMA techna.
Why does Direct TV fight with everybody?

Speaker 4 (18:26):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (18:28):
I mean, it's it seems like most of these carries
are fighting when it's gonna be a matter of not if,
but when we're gonna get NBC fighting with them next,
we'll lose NBC channel for a while. It's crazy. I mean,
these don't even get me started. So those are the
University Houston fans are gonna want to watch the game
in Oklahoma that's in the SEC network this week, and uh,
that's an that's an ESPN property. Now put you'd rather

(18:51):
it's gonna be better for you. Honestly, is there a
single Cougar fan that's really gonna get excited to turn
that game on? You're gonna be there, and you're gonna
be doing the pregame. You have to be there. Yeah,
I mean yeah, I mean, I'm I don't know what
it's like for a team to go into as a
thirty point dog, so I can't speak to it. So

(19:11):
I just have to turn to you, Matt. If your
team is a thirty that was twenty eight, twenty nine
and a half to thirty depending on where you look.
I mean, I'm very lucky to be a Longhorn fan,
So I don't think in any sports. So basically, you
jones In on a program that was successful all the time.

(19:31):
I didn't jones In. That's where I went to school. Yeah,
I guess you did go to school there. Yeah, what
do you want to say? So I'm just asking for
you for perspective, man, I'm not trying to be mean.
I'm just saying, like, what is it like what do
you even do you even want to turn it on? Well,
I'll be there. So there's a lot of rabid Cougar

(19:53):
fans around. But how can you get excited when you're
thirty point dogs? Say hey, let's go ahead and make
this thing. Why does it make this a two score game?
Why doesn't the ESPN apps show the U point spreads?
I mean, if anybody would do it would be them.
They're they're they're the ESPN bad thing right. Probably Direct
TV's blocking it from me. No kidding, that's too fun.
Maybe it's off the board. Maybe it is off the board.

(20:13):
Maybe people are maybe they're waiting for your conversation for
inside information with Willie Fritz. I'll give us information at
one thirty and tell us all about it. Oh yeah,
so I hope that's the case. You know what, I
didn't mean to speak out of turn. I forgot Fritz
William Fritz was coming on today. Well you won't be
asking any questions, No, I'm you like to sit back
and you'll be working on Believe or Not today? Oh yeah,
believe it or not with the category being thirty point favorites. Yeah,
that is my phone, thank you, it's not you don't know.

(20:35):
We don't want to. We don't want to do that.
That's that's a that's a bad subject. That was an
app State a thirty point favorite against A and M
once one day or Apple State against Michigan back in
the Yeah, so it can help. I got you. You're
going any given Sunday they might beat us ninety nine
out of one hundred, But give me just one. Is
that what you're doing, Matt? That feels like Saturday Fritz

(20:56):
is going to do. I feel like Saturday six forty five? Yeah, thirty,
spread is thirty. The total is forty nine and a half.
By the way, mega low total in ut Michigan, it's
forty three and a half. And what's the current spread
on that?

Speaker 7 (21:10):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (21:11):
That would be the Longhorns minus seven and a half.
They put the hook on there. Mmm. Okay, thoughts and
prayers for all of us? What time is that game?

Speaker 9 (21:23):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (21:24):
Six forty five? They put it in prime time too
on SEC network. I no, all right, Joe as spotted. Okay,
that's enough sound effects from you. We will get to
Joe's spot. I have to tell you about Game day

with a manager of the Houston Astros, And I have
to ask Skipper. I've been in since Anti a few times.
Not a bad place, but I don't know if I
don't want to spend an off day there. What did
you do?

Speaker 7 (23:01):
Well? Well, you know, it's uh we had a great
office here in Cincinnati weather it's uh, it's great. We
took uh we actually went out to uh out a
team dinner, players and staff, and we've got a nice
uh opportunity to uh relax and and and hang out
and you know, spend some a few hours together since

(23:23):
we've been on a long stretch of games here. So
we had a nice evening at the team and just
kind of getting ready for this uh this, uh, you know,
for the finish line here. You know we are we
are on the last sprint of our regular season. So yes,
last night was a nice night for us to just
kind of you know, recharge our you know strength and

(23:43):
spend a little bit of time together at the club
and uh and get back at it today.

Speaker 3 (23:47):
Well, you know what, you had a stretch of eighteen
without a day off and you survived it. Played over
five hundred baseball and you played against some really good competition,
and the most important thing is you continue to make
up or not make up, extend your lead in the division.
So all things is considered, Uh, was still some injuries
to kind of fight over in Alex Bregman's elbow and whatnot.
You couldn't have asked for much more during this three

(24:08):
week stretch.

Speaker 7 (24:09):
Yeah, yeah, you know what, we we had. We we play,
we play well despite some injuries, and we played some
really good teams. And I couldn't be any happier of
the way the boys are grinding through through this long stretch,
and and we've still got another three three weeks ago.
The guys know how important the next three weeks are.

(24:31):
And but but like you said, I just couldn't be
any happy the way we we we got after it
for for eighteen straight days.

Speaker 3 (24:38):
All right, Let's get to the fact that it looks
like Kyle's getting very, very close. And we've been saying
that for a little while, but it feels like the
it's gonna be, my guest, maybe the Arizona series. Would
that be a possibility in your mind?

Speaker 7 (24:51):
Yeah, you know what, He's getting really really close. He
is he's having another live VP today, He's running the
basis today. So I think the Arizona series is very realistic.
But I'm excited that we are actually getting really close
to getting Kyle Falker back on the field. It's you know,

(25:11):
he's recovering. Well, he's eighty five ninety spring effort. It's there,
and we need to get a few a few more
days of that. And but we're really really close. I
can't you know, I can't wait to write you Penzila.

Speaker 3 (25:28):
His name in the lineup, Yeah, for sure. And I'm
going to assume and you look, things could change on
a daily with him, this guy, what's been gone as
long as he is. But do you feel like you
you know, he plays a day, takes a day off,
maybe DH a little bit. If have you kind of
gone through in your mind what the next ten games
would be like once he officially gets put on that
lineup card.

Speaker 7 (25:46):
Yeah, yeah, you know, I don't think the first few
days you could you could have them in there every day.
I think you know, the concern here or you know,
what you're trying to protect him is against it's soft
isssues injuries like a handstring aquad because he has been
ramped up, uh, you know in a while. He hasn't

(26:07):
play that in a long time, so we have to
be careful how we ease him in there. So d
H is a possibility, you know, maybe the day he
doesn't start to come off the bench and be a
bat off the bench, and then we'll progress until he
could play right field. But just to have him available
off the bench, be a be a weapon off the bench, Dhing.

(26:30):
It's it's you know, we're talking about one of the
best players in the league. So but we're really really close.
So today is another another day that we're looking forward
to having him, you know, doing his work and see
how he feels.

Speaker 3 (26:41):
Afterwards, managed Joe spot of joining us from Sin Sanni. Look, Skip,
you've got a player at third base but the name
Alex Bregman, who doesn't like to miss in a bat,
much less a game. But obviously the elbow is not
one hundred percent. He's having aware and he's having to
fight through the pain. And and I'm not a doctor
in nor do I play on the radio, but I'm
assuming if the season was over tomorrow and he'd have
some kind of scope or some surgery to repair it.

(27:03):
But you can't do that because he wants to grind
through and play. With that being said, if you having
the six and a half game lead, and you know, look,
you gotta get to the finish line, and you obviously
need Alex. We're gonna be a big part of it.
Will there be a concerned effort by you, by the
training staff to maybe give him a few days off
beyond what he's already gone through now, just so if
there's anything left in that arm come playoff time, he'll

(27:24):
be as close to one hundred percent at that point.

Speaker 7 (27:27):
Yeah, So you know, and that's what that's what we've
done the last five days. You know, I thought that
on Monday he could have gone and played, but we
you know, having Monday and then having you know, getting
off the off Monday and then having Tuesday off, the
extra two days would have been you know, would have
been beneficial for him. So he's gonna walk in today

(27:49):
and we'll see how he feels. But he's day to day,
and like you said, we don't want to miss him
for a long period of time. But we all you know,
we only have twenty four games left, so this is
something that we're going to have to day by.

Speaker 4 (28:01):
Day, explore and maneuver.

Speaker 7 (28:03):
How can we deal with with the elbow inflammation for
the next couple of weeks. You know, yes, we will
like to uh rest them and be ready for the postseason,
but we're not in the postseason yet.

Speaker 4 (28:17):
We have to.

Speaker 7 (28:19):
Be smart for the next couple of weeks. How we
get the best out of Alex and rest them doing
during the next during this period of time. And I
think we're doing a really good job managing that around.
We gave him five days off and see how it
feels today. And if it feels good today, you know,
he could be he could be in there tonight.

Speaker 3 (28:37):
And you mentioned, of course not the postseason yet, but
what is that like for you kind of looking down
the stretch and and maybe if you are going to
win the American League West and get into October, you
also guys want guys fresh from a long season as
far as Altuve, Pini and others, and kind of towing
that line between giving guys some rest but also making
sure you win the games.

Speaker 7 (28:57):
Yeah, you know, it's a it's a very delicate allens.
You know, uh situation that we that we are in.
You know, I think we will well, we have another
off day coming up on Monday. The next couple of days,
we could give the guys, uh you know, a blow,
but you know, we have another fifteen game stretch here

(29:18):
once you know, next beginning beginning next Tuesday, So we
have to be smart on how you know, use our
DH spot to some of our guys, give them off
days just to get them off their feet. You know,
the work that we do prior to our game be
you know, be quality but light work. But the guys

(29:39):
are not constantly taking a ton of swing a ton
of ground balls just to make sure that they're fresh
for for for the game. But you know, it's definitely
uh uh, you know, a very delicate, you know act
situation because we wanted were trying to win as many
games as possible, but we also want to give our
guys some some rest.

Speaker 3 (29:58):
Speak your rest, are you confirming? I don't know if
you've ever officially done so.

Speaker 1 (30:02):
No.

Speaker 3 (30:03):
Dana alluded to this over the weekend that Renel's can
go to the bullpen for a while, because I know
we have talked about this, that this is a young
man that has been fantastic for you this year, but
he's also going into an innings amount that he's never
reached before in his professional career.

Speaker 7 (30:16):
Yeah, so so there's there, you know, that could be
a realistic option for us for over the weekend, giving Blanco,
you know, skipping for start working out of the bullpen
for stuck. But I'm not ready to confirm that. I
am going to sit down here with Josh and and
in the next in the next thirty minutes, and we're
going to talk about our rotation against the DBAC. But

(30:39):
that's that's a strong possibility faults, just to make sure
that we we protect our starters, especially Blanco, But you know,
I'm not ready to confirm that yet.

Speaker 3 (30:47):
One hundred and seven pitches for Justin Verlander, how do
you think he is? Just looking physically as far as
uh from a physical standpoint and also from a pitching standpoint,
what do you want to see more from him?

Speaker 7 (31:00):
Yeah? So, you know, physically he looks fine, He looks strong.
You know, we we we spent some time last night
doing dinner talking about how he felt. It builds fine,
the body builds fine. But you know he just needs
to you know, work on some of his you know,
mechanical issues and and just to be able to repeats
his delivery and be able to execute the fishes anytime.

Speaker 4 (31:22):
Joining the company.

Speaker 7 (31:22):
When he comes to its physical uh shape and and
and strength, he seems fine. He's just he's just not
quite where he wants to be and where we expect
him to be.

Speaker 3 (31:35):
Isn't it crazy, Joe that two months ago, I think
collectively we're all worried about You're gonna put Spencer Ageddi
out there every fifth day. You had Jake Bloss going,
you had uh, Hunter Brown going into some innings that
were in the back half of his career that most
has ever thrown. You mentioned Blanco. And now you're going
to be, hopefully wink wink, facing some very tough decisions

(31:57):
here in the next month or so about who your
starters are going to become in time. Maybe how things
could change in such a short period of time is
pretty incredible right now.

Speaker 7 (32:06):
Yeah, you know, Matt, and you know, like I'm one
of those persons that I take, I take one day
at a time. I wasn't concerned, you know, two months
ago about the talent that we had on the field.
My concern was more asking these young pitchers to do
stuff that they had never been asked to do in
the past, and that was my big concerns. But I

(32:29):
knew all along that these are very, very talented pictures,
and it was just about being careful how much we
ask of them throughout Immate League season, right, and and
looking ahead, you know, again we are we're taking one
game at a time. We we have to put our
rotation for a good you know, against the d Backs

(32:52):
or a really good team playing really good baseball, and
then the week after that, you know, we got an
Oakland eight team who's playing well. Right, we got to
go on the road and go to San Diego and La.
So we're trying to take one series out of time
and make sure that we put ourselves in a position
to you know, build our lead and also you know,

(33:12):
if we are fortunate enough and blessed enough to go
in the postseason, that we are in a good position
to be healthy and and put the best players on
the field and in the best position for them to succeed.

Speaker 3 (33:24):
Well, thank god your ground to Joe, because we're not.
We've already got you in the World Series, so there's
no pressure on you at this point, but you keep
doing what you're doing. By the way, did Verliner pick
up the tab last night. Who who's buying all the meals?
I mean, come on, let's let's let's let's let's out
some people here. Well who the big checks have been
paying those bills?

Speaker 10 (33:40):
Not you?

Speaker 7 (33:41):
Well, well you know what the Bosston team crane. He
took he took care of the bill. He's he wants
to make sure that you know, we we had.

Speaker 4 (33:50):
A good time.

Speaker 7 (33:51):
He understands the bond, the relationship and the imformance of
us coming together at the club and taking time just
to stick down and enjoy enjoy time together. We are,
you know, on the on the grind every single day,
and sometimes we forget about you know, we got to
step back and take time and let's talk about friends

(34:12):
and families and and joke around, talk from college football
and relax a bit, because you know, it's go go
every single day and sometimes, you know, you got to
make sure that we we don't forget that we there's
other things that we enjoy doing.

Speaker 9 (34:27):
Well.

Speaker 3 (34:27):
Thank guys, you guys, Thank guys.

Speaker 7 (34:28):
You guys.

Speaker 3 (34:29):
Get along. As if I had to work with my
partner here for eighteen straight days, I want to be
away from it for like two straight days. I want
to want to know dinner, no meal, no coffee with you.
Come on now, Joe, thank you for much. Hey great,
uh great, Ron my man, thank you for the visitors always.
We'll talk again next week and good luck time against Cincinnati.

Speaker 4 (34:44):
Thank you guys, you got it.

Speaker 3 (34:45):
We'll see. That's Joe spot of joining us from the
Natty about Jim craneping up the tab. That's good, as
he should. He's picking up a lot of tabs. Well,
let'll all help him out. Everybody's gonna be good. He's
picking up all the Jose of Braves tabs. Hey rough, Hey,
caacuci tab was short, little too? Yeah, I didn't say

(35:09):
anything wrong. Coucie's tab is you know small? I mean,
not a big salary, picking up the remaining portions of
the deal. How you're trying to load me up into
something here that I didn't do anything wrong? Yeah, you

which you nothing but the very best at Michigan this week. Frankly,
I want you to lose so I can calm down.
Mister alumni boy over here, Well, you know I went there,
so I had to root for him. There are a
lot of Jeburni's out there that don't root for schools
they don't go to. Yeah, give me called They're called

(36:31):
T shirt or they T shirt wearers. You look at
the shirt you wear your Bear's twenty nineteen basketball n
T champions. Yeah, the People's champs.

Speaker 2 (36:40):
Baby.

Speaker 3 (36:41):
No, no, I mean no, no. Nobody calls them at
People's champions. People call them the people's disappointments. It's not
for prestige. By the way, you want money, I want
to get some shout out to people on Twitter, real
people that follow me on Twitter. Shout out from Bob

charge his lunch to Jim Crane's. He's buying lunch everybody.
I love that. I would you know, Yeah, I mean
I've I've had a I've had a meal on Jim
Crane before it was good. I'm sure you have. Are
you there with me? I think no, you didn't go
with us to that uh Rod Rouse way back in
the day spring training. Oh well uh yeah he picked

(37:27):
up the tab on that. Well yeah, so yeah we
went here too.

Speaker 7 (37:31):
Dinner.

Speaker 3 (37:32):
Yeah, yeah, I went to the GM's dinner. Yeah. I
don't think that that that's Dana bron I don't think
Dana paid for it. I think probably Jim paid for
There was a certain member of the media who would
not shut up and just kept on annoying him the
whole the whole dinner. Can you tell us who it is?

Speaker 2 (37:43):
Nope?

Speaker 3 (37:44):
All right, that's fair. Can I take Can I ask
off air? Yes? Okay? Can you give a hyme right now.
The audience people want to know. I'm just not going
to all right, that's fine, it doesn't seem worth it. Yeah,
No seven one three two one two five seven ninety

We have head coach Willie Fritz at one thirty. Shit,

(38:06):
your bumpass up at two o'clock. Yes, mine's easy. Well
you're looking at me. No, No, I did to you
that every day. This time. No, you still got two
hours left. Will's and Katie on seven Autie, Well, good afternoon.

Speaker 9 (38:22):
Good afternoon. It's good I have I've been out of
town for three weeks, so it's good to hear y'all's voices.

Speaker 2 (38:28):
Wait where did you go?

Speaker 9 (38:30):
I I was stuck in Omaha, and uh it was
I was. I hated it, but it is what it is.
But uh, two things. One, I got in a conversation
with somebody this past weekend who was telling me that
I'm not allowed to be a Longhorn fan because I
didn't go to the school. But I have pictures of

(38:51):
me on my Facebook of when I was a newborn
wearing a ut hoodie. So I kind of told them,
I said, Well, then they can't cheer for the Astros
or Tech because they've never played for either one of them.

Speaker 3 (39:02):
So that's always my artist, all right, So let me
let me ask you this, and in theory, I'm okay
with that, but there's a very important question I must
ask with this ruling. Where did you go to school?
Or did you go to school colleges?

Speaker 9 (39:16):
And for everybody I try, I try to Austin Community College.
But let's just say i'll talk of.

Speaker 2 (39:22):
Women.

Speaker 3 (39:23):
No, no, no, no, that's that's I don't have a
problem with it. If you did not go to a
four uh four your institution, I don't have a problem
with that. But if you went to a school and
graduated from there and you choose not to root for
them because you're rooting for somebody else, that makes you
a complete phony. Like, for instance, it'd be like someone
going it'd be like someone going to Texas Tech and

(39:45):
being a big fan of the University of Texas. That's fraudulent,
that's ridiculous, that's defacy.

Speaker 9 (39:52):
I agree with that, and also also the many reasons
why I called is uh. I might have covered this before,
but what's and Tucker coming back? Lee has to get
rid of maybe Gammel or Hayward or how does that
work out?

Speaker 4 (40:09):
And that's that's really my main thing.

Speaker 10 (40:10):
So I'm appreciate you guys.

Speaker 3 (40:13):
Thank you great to have you back in town. Got
a little underwater there. Yeah, it's our, it's our, it's
our phones might be yeah, gamble out of options, Hayward,
I mean ninety nine percent sure, out of options? Yeah,
So to Ross and me, and I don't want to
speak for you. Yeah. Uh, it's either gonna be Wickcamb
or descend though I would rather have Descenzo up. But

(40:38):
maybe I'm gonna be overrolled on that. I don't know. Yeah,
you did gut feeling that it was gonna be Shay Whitcomb. Yeah,
and I get guess the only reason why field this
is gonna be crowdedy. Bernie told me that it would
be because Wickham can play third base, but a little
bit of third. His natural position I thought was third,
But maybe they don't think he's good enough at at
the major league level.

Speaker 7 (40:57):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (40:57):
Shaye at third has not been great. He's literal errors. Well,
put Dubie over there. See. I think if if, if
you're worried about who's playing third base, I would get.
I'd put Mauricio to Bond at third base. Not that
I'm saying that's a great defensive decision anyway, but I
would rather give Descenzo more majorly at bats, because I
think there's a future with him at some maybe at
first base next year, more than shape. That's just my opinion.

(41:21):
It'll be interesting because, yeah, you're just gonna have a
glut of outfielders, and it's like, when are you gonna
put these guys out there? If you're keeping well, I
guess chas are gonna go back down when Jake gets
done with his paternity, right, which, congratulations? Jake Myers Fan
Club would like to an issue a statement we congratulate
Jake Myers on his procreation. Do we have a name yet?

(41:43):
I believe it's Ross. That's not true. I believe it's
Ross Myers Ross Myers. Yeah, it's good, strong name. What
if it's a girl sturdy? Yeah, Rose Rose Ross. Okay, Yeah,
you would have one too many outfielders for sure. What
you would never need to put Dubond in the outfield again,

(42:04):
my guess, yeah, you can play him at first played well,
de Zenzo's more first, he'd be gone. I guess it'll
be interesting. Yeah, it'll be a frig major leaguer. It
will be anybody that probably will not be going. Oh
that actually October Heroes is playing right now in Sugarland.

(42:25):
Oh dang, what do you mean? Haven't you heard the spots?
The next Superstars are all at Triple A right now.
I don't believe that. I don't disagree with him and
the next jose L Twov and Alex Bregman, well, hopeful
the next Alex Brudman, because I think he's gonezo at
the end of this year. But that's a different issue
for a different time. All right, twelve fifty seven of
the Mat Thomas Shall we start the second hour coming

(42:45):
up momentarily if you want to come in and that
Joe A spot I had to say, I mean, I
hate one game in a one game and a time guy,
one day at a time, guy, that's what that's baseball. No,
I don't want to be that. I want to be
a one of them. I want to be way thick
ahead guy. Okay, couldn't have been cool. Said, Yeah, I've
been think about our playoff rotation. I've listened to you
and Ross Matt. I argue it and well, I agree
with both of you. I want you to go tell
josepher Lander he's not starting, yeah, and he's gona tell

(43:08):
you to shut your butt mess up. He's gonna say,
what do you do again? But Joe is steady, Yeah,
as we were steady when they were losing. Kind of
have to be in that position. You have to be
steady Yestago White Sox been steady. Everyone wanted them fired
and wanted Joe spot a fire earlier this season. By
the way, that'll be up in about three days if

(43:29):
they lose another couple of games. Yeah, that's true. Worst
fan base when it comes to firing managers is Astros, Twitter, Yes,

get your results back, they don't just give you some
stuff and then just send you on your way. You
are getting customized care. You have types of testosterones in
your body, different types, and they're going to tailor your body.
They're gonna tailor their treatments to your body and what
levels those are. It's all above my head, but they
are the experts, so they know what they're doing. That's
why you go to fixmlow t dot com for Centergenics.

do is because you can get paid kickbacks from X

(46:43):
for getting a bunch of impressions. So that's why anything
you look at has like ten people replying stuff that
doesn't even relate to what the tweet.

Speaker 4 (46:52):
Like.

Speaker 3 (46:52):
For example, tweet Kyle Tucker back in the lineup right, whatever, right,
and you'll see ten tweets like look at this hippopotamus
swim or whatever, look at this cute dog. It's because
they're impression farming is what you call it, so they're
getting a certain amount of impressions and then they get
kick back kickbacks from Twitter, and so you have people
who will do this all day, or they'll buy big accounts,

(47:13):
like say some account has five hundred thousand followers. If
you build up your Twitter account, Matt, you could sell
it to one of these people and they would buy it,
pay for the pay for the verification, and then get
a bunch of replies and make money off of that.
So what do you want me to do? Sell your Twitter?

Speaker 7 (47:29):
No?

Speaker 12 (47:29):
Do? I do?

Speaker 3 (47:30):
I go ahead and sucker buy the eighty four dollars. No,
I mean unless you're not gonna get any Actually, I
think even with the regular premium you still get ads.
It's a scam. But I could edit my post. That's
the only benefit to me. Sometimes I want to write
more of the characters than they have, but then just

(47:51):
do two tweets. Yeah, I don't think it's a bigger
I I just want to get rid of the at
zz like all these fake Twitter accounts. I'm getting blocked
them right away. Get him out of my system. I
like to have the authentic number that's not going to
get any worse, I mean any better. Second, big headline
today is the Texans sign of Davis Mills are one year,

(48:11):
five million dollar contract. It shows you how kind of
lean it is here on a Wednesday for sports going on.
That's a huge deal, Matt huge. Also, lock him up.
You know he knows my son, my oldest camera is
a truth is a Davis Mills truther. Still no, no anymore. No,
he no, he would sit that in front of me.
He would be. But he knows in his mind it

(48:33):
was the worst session ever thing. He knows in the
bottom of his heart that he wasted all that money. Well,
he wastes a lot of money. He wastes money on
soccer and he wastes money on Davis Mills jerseys. So
he's over two. What do you mean, Well, he did
pick a team that's just Tottenham hotspat He's a season
ticket holder of the Dynamo though. Oh yeah, speaking of
teams that underperform, I have really for a long time,

(48:54):
haven't They won a championship with like oh wait or something.
But it's going back. But they were went there like
eighteen thirty Houston eighteen thirty six, that was their first name,
and then there was some backlash. That was the year
that Texas declared independence from Mexico, I believe. Okay, So
people didn't like that, and perhaps there were some I
don't know if it was. Actually I wasn't really around
in those days. You were liable. I was alive, but

(49:15):
I wasn't around like the Twitter streets. There were Twitter streets,
I got you. But people were upset. I guess maybe
the some of some Hispanic fans that didn't like that connotation.
I guess, I don't know. And by the way, that
whole war was started over slavery, so it was a
bad pick in the first place. Yeah, probably better I
don't not to go. And so then they go in
through Dynamo and then they yeah, they went with Dynamo.

(49:36):
It's probably didn't go to FC Houston. We might have
all right, or Houston United. I like that one. Actually, yeah,
there's only like nine blank blank United teams in the
in the soccer And how I know that, I don't know.
All right, So Astros are back in action. Spencer Arraghetti
will take them mound for the local nine today. We'll
have the on deck show at four thirty. Okay, So

(49:56):
Adam and Adam will give you ninety minutes of commentary,
then they'll do their forty minute pregame show, and then
I will host a ten to Think show after. Okay,
so if you liked me today, you'll love me in
about nine thirty tonight. I'm good. And hopefully I when
I get a call saying that Chas mccormickle have been
having a career defining story, I might prank call you.
That's happened before. I actually I only did it once,

(50:20):
and I was I was on a road trip and
whatever town I was in, I called you from. It
was a town in North Texas, and I asked you
if Justin it was about what it was a Justin Verlander,
if he was pitching poorly because he was distracted because
Kate Eupton just had a baby. How did I answer?

Speaker 4 (50:39):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (50:40):
You were like that's ridiculous. I was calm about it though.
Right now you were pretty calm. Yeah, I just had it.

Speaker 7 (50:45):
Now.

Speaker 3 (50:45):
I'm like, hey, Matt, do you think you think Justin
Verlander has been distracted at home because Kate Upton just
had that baby? You know, I mean you lose a
lot of sleep when you had a baby. That voice
ross sounds airly familiar. That's it. I can't put my
finger on it. Okay, do a couple of months ago.
I'm good, all right, Uh, Texans are in a practice field,

(51:11):
our favorite edge linebacker, Will Anderson. That's good on the year,
Rookie of the Year, Will Anderson and Daniel Hunter gonna
be tearing stuff up. So I went on there these
there's some dudes in Portland, Maine that always have me
on their show once a year to talk about the NFL,
and kind of they go around the NFL. I mean,
what a boring ass, ridiculously low hanging fruit topic. I

(51:33):
love it, you love around the NFL? Absolutely? Why don't
we do it on the show that we should? We
did be for a while a week. Would you call it?
It was my it was my segment. Yeah, we did
it on Tuesdays or Wednesday, Tuesday, Wednesday Tuesdays. Sounds good.
If you want to do it, it's fine. I don't
know if people are overly engaged that's around the league.
I don't know if people care what's going on with
the Chargers. Why not Matt, it's NFL is king Matt?

(51:58):
Do one segment in a week, okay, starting next Tuesday.
Do you know some shows do all full boar NFL. No,
let's let's do it next Tuesday. At least you can
be up more on your your fantasy news, can do.
I don't have to comment any of it, do I
let you just for example, if we were doing it today,
Jamar Chase back at practice, mat your thoughts. I'm happy
for him. T higgins value gone down. T Higgins gonna

(52:21):
be fragit next year. Perfect sliding spot for the Texans.
Oh too late after after the Davas says, I'm out
of here. I thought t Higgins got a deal from them.

Speaker 7 (52:31):
He didn't.

Speaker 3 (52:32):
He got a one year deal. I thought, Okay, I
don't know. Well, if we'd had around the league, we'ld
have know owned that exactly. See that's what we did.

Speaker 12 (52:38):
You know what?

Speaker 3 (52:38):
Around the league begins next week. Let's go, by the way,
not starting this week, but next week is the debut
of the rotten five, That is correct. I can't can
we even name the five worst teams right now in
the NFL? Patriots? Patriots would be number raiders.

Speaker 4 (52:56):
Guys.

Speaker 3 (52:56):
See how Gardner meant you does Raiders are probably did
you just hear this? The Panthers are a bottom five
Panthers but I think the Panthers could be sneaky. Titan's
a bottom five. How does Thomas Sports Enterprises feel about that?
Not good? Because Thomas Sports Enterprise has a prize client
starting at quarterback this week. Let's see Panthers is good,

(53:20):
Cardinals we'll see. Yeah, we're working. See it's hard to
figure out the bottom professional members right now? What about
Minnesota this year? Oh, they could be up there. Sam
Donald just throwing it out there.

Speaker 4 (53:32):
J J.

Speaker 3 (53:32):
McCarthy already out for the year, Sam Donald season, M
nothing again. I don't think j is gonna be good
NFL quarterback anyway. But everybody told you only two of
the five are gonna be good. Yes, I must stay
with that. Okay, I think Cala William is gonna be
really good. You think so? M h Okay, you're not
concerned about him painting his nails like some people are.

(53:54):
Who's concerned about Adam came on the show and said,
I'm concerned by a man painting his nails. I don't
think he said he's concerned. I don't think those are
exact words made fun of. Yeah, you can make fun
of it. I don't think males should be painting their
nails these days.

Speaker 4 (54:07):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (54:08):
But he's not a kid, he's young adult making mom
does it? Yeah, I think Prince did it. Prince a
little A different animal doesn't bother me. I don't care.
What if if Texas loses the Michigan Will you paint
your nails? Big blue? Paint my nails?

Speaker 10 (54:25):
No?

Speaker 3 (54:25):
Okay, good, I'm happy. The only time I'm painting my
nails is if if my nieces want me to. Oh,
I'll gle Ross. You know your toenails? We would never
know it. That's weird. You know somebody in this building
that's used to paint his toenails really because his daughter
wanted him to. Oh, okay, that's cute. That's what I'm saying.
It's cute. That's cool. Uncle Ross. Come on, let's paint

(54:45):
your toenails. It's fine. We cant have like we canna
have a big session. We can do it in appearance.
Come watch Uncle Roskie the toennails painted. That's bizarre. Seven
one three two one two five seven dott he seven
one three two one two five SEMy, if you not noticed,
there's not a lot of piping out sports news today,
is there? What do you mean I mean the Kyle Tucker.
We've gotten to that. We haven't even gotten to the

(55:06):
Southern Miss coach. All right, we're gonna play some audio
coming back. It's pretty funny. Southern Miss knows his role
basically right, Yes, and also there seems to be a
little bit of, I would say, another layer of intrigue
to this story. Ooh, you're setting this up for a
Ross's story time. It is up next, with the head

(55:26):
coach of the Cougars, Willie Fritz, joining us at the
bottom of the hour. Right now, I word once again
from my good friends over at Berkeley Eye Center. You know,
everyone knows that Berkeleyeye Center is Houston's LASIK leader, but
did you know that their vision solutions go beyond lasik
regardless of your age, Like, they have a next generation
evo ICL technology.

Speaker 4 (55:47):
What that is?

Speaker 3 (55:47):
I have no idea they do. They're the ones that
are creating it. They're the ones that have the technology
in their offices. And if it can improve your vision,
why don't you find out if it's good for you.
They also have light adjustable lenses all demise to your eyes.
So if you're not sure what kind of vision solution
is right for you. That's where Berkeley I Center comes
into play. Their first step is always free, So let

(56:09):
them customize a vision plan for you, regardless of your
age by calling me seven one three five two six eyes,
because honestly, they're gonna be some of you that are
not eligible for Lasik laser vision correction, but this other
technology that can help you get the vision you so
richly deserve. Berkeley I Center, one Team, one focus, and
that is your vision. Seven one three five two six eyes.
Seven one three five two six.

Speaker 7 (56:31):
E y es.

Speaker 2 (56:33):
Matt Thomas returns on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (56:40):
A quick rest in peace to uh Wayne Graham, who
is the longtime head baseball coach both at sam Jack
and at Rice University, helped the Owls back in the
day win a College World Series championship. A very very
fast Wayne Graham story. I think I've told it once before.
Uh I was doing some of their baseball games on
a radio. This gotta be twenty years ago, and we

(57:03):
had a road trip to San Diego and we got
on the plane and we did our thing, and the
guys they wouldn't rent buses back then. It was just
cheaper to do vans, so they would get these ten
passenger vans, three or four of them, I think yeah,
maybe three, and each of the assistant coaches would would
drive one of the buses. Uh, none the vans, and

(57:24):
that's how they get there. And I didn't. I was
new to this. I didn't run and jump in in
a van that I didn't anybody. So I run my
own car. No big deal. And they said, uh, we're
gonna play this game against San Diego State and then
we're gonna go eat. And I thought, okay, we're in
San Diego, California.

Speaker 9 (57:39):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (57:40):
And Wayne said, just follow the vans. We will, we'll
go to what we're gonna go eat. So the game
ends and I'm thinking they're gonna go blank, shower and shave.
Uh huh, Nope. They all get into the mini vani
in vans and they said, just follow our vans. So
I'm here. I am twenty four years old. I've into

(58:00):
I'm calling these baseball games with all these people. I
don't know who they are, and I'm doing their game.
And we pull off to get to a restaurant. We
went to Denny's. Oh wow in San Diego. All the
great seafood with all the great food objects. Food in
San Diego. And here's the crazy part. It was very
little league style. They all went in when their uniforms

(58:21):
on the whole Rice baseball coaches really yeah, because wait,
at that time was probably in his mid sixties okay,
early in the mid sixties, so he was kind of
a creature of habit. So he had been doing it
this way as a junior college coach and now he
was Division one coach doing this and it's like, you
know what we would we would go to you know,

(58:43):
we didn't got it, would go on this trip and
he you know, they went to Golden corrals, They went
to you know, like minor league places where you wouldn't
spend a lot of money. You didn't have a lot
of money to spend on these kids meals. But they
want to get him fed. So we went to Denny's. Wow,
what did you get all grand slam? Of course didn't.
You didn't spring for the Lumberjacks lamp. They didn't have
lumber je pick up your tad. Uh In retrospect, you

(59:03):
had a pretty deemp So yeah, okay, but yeah, I
mean that's good. I didn't burn it all in sand
I mean, I'm I'm assuming you spend it all at Denny's.
I think I did, could you. I mean, I guess
I could, Okay, but I just it was so funny
hearing him. He was twenty four to twenty five years
old broadcasting these games like this is Graham on the
road and me, it's beautiful San Diego. We're gonna go somewhere.
It's really cool, and we god with Denny's and eat.

(59:27):
That sounds fantastic. I like Denny's. Denny's fueled the Rice
Owls to the two thousand and three World Series. Yeah,
I did. I did some of their regional games, not
World Series games, but their regional super regional games or
regional games at the Astrodome. That was the first time
I ever called a baseball game in the astrodom. It
was very very cool. That sounds cool. So that had
to been pre two thousand because the ballpark was opening

(59:48):
minimum minime was open in two thousand, right, So I
had to be like ninety eight nine when I was
doing it. Yeah, Oh been a while.

Speaker 4 (59:54):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (59:55):
So that's my way in graham story. Thank you, Matt
eighty eighty eight years of good life, eighty eight years old. Yeah,
was famous for if one thing. Not worrying about pitch
counts as most college college most college coaches are that
way one hundred and thirty six. Yeah, you got one

(01:00:16):
more in you?

Speaker 7 (01:00:19):
Well?

Speaker 3 (01:00:19):
Can I read a tweet about that? That happened to
me the other day? What's that this? I wasn't following
this person, but I saw this tweet on the four
you tab and I mentioned this on Twitter. How bad
the four you tab can be? Yes, let me explain
the four you tab? How bad it is? This guy?
Let's see here, put this out this four or five

(01:00:40):
days ago. So kill some time here just for one
second while I looked this up. Matt is looking up
a tweet following him at sports MT. Yeah, the tweets
are very good. Another spectacular. Actually, it'll make him feel better,
especially if you're a real person and not a not
a bot. You know what if you had a bot
farm wouldnt follow him?

Speaker 4 (01:00:57):
All?

Speaker 3 (01:00:58):
No, no, don't do it. And we're still waiting. Just
bring up something else we can. Okay, Well, how about
the story. We're gonna please do that Wayne Graham story?
Yeah no, no, no Graham story was really you calling
a game and then going to a Denny story. No,
talking about their coach Southern misscos Okay, fine the story

(01:01:20):
about the Southern Miss coach. Over the weekend, Southern Miss
football played the Kentucky Wildcats and apparently during the game
there was a lightning issues. They lost thirty one to nothing.
Did the Southern Miss Golden Eagles Well, head coach Will

(01:01:43):
Hall apparently talked about what was happening that weekend and
what he was prioritizing as far as the game with Kentucky.

Speaker 13 (01:01:53):
Extremely worried about Andrews. That was the number one concern. Uh,
you know, nutrition was a concern, but hate none of that.
Top's getting that check, you know what I mean. We
have to get that chick. And to get that check,
we got to play that game, you know. So ultimately
that's how we all pay our bills. And that's just
the way it is when you're a groupe of five
football team.

Speaker 3 (01:02:14):
We were worried about the player safety and nutrition and
all that, but really we really wanted to get the check. Kickoff.
Original schedule for seventy forty five Eastern, then it was
pushedback thirty minutes, and then further lightning strikes pushed it
past twelve oh five, and then it was called as
a final during the third quarter so that the game
could be complete an he got his check because Southern
Miss Athletics doesn't survive without the check from Kentucky. But

(01:02:37):
there's more to this story, is there?

Speaker 4 (01:02:38):
Okay?

Speaker 3 (01:02:39):
Go ahead?

Speaker 4 (01:02:39):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (01:02:40):
Dema Mixing is a beat reporter for the student prints.
I guess that's the student a Southern Miss media group. Okay,
and Big Gold Nation, which is partnered with rivals, and
Dema Mixing was on this confert call or watching it

(01:03:01):
and put out a tweet that basically what he just said.
We were extremely worried about injuries. That was our number
concerned nutrition, but all none of that tops getting that check.
He tweeted it out. It was a quote from the
direct quote from the coach. Nothing wrong with this, nothing
wrong with that. The post was truly thereafter deleted by her.

(01:03:24):
It's a it's a male I believe, okay, Dema d
I m A, I'm not sure, all right, Dima Mixing.
Then Demon Mixon followed up with a quote with a
tweet saying, this is a misquote. It's important to hear
the context. I'm generally typing. First thing I hear. I
went back and listened to it and took it down immediately. Yeah,
somebody told him to take it down, so Sala, it

(01:03:47):
had to be the coach Hall or somebody with a representative.
Why are they telling him to take down a tweet
that is a direct quote though we just heard what
he said. We just heard it literally verbatim. What he
said was tweeted out. Yeah, hmmm, poor demon Mixon. They're
bullying some young beat reporter that a reporter learned that

(01:04:12):
propaganda media is at an all time high, that if
you work for a particular team, you're going to be
told to take stuff down. Yeah, but this is a
direct quote. I mean, my goodness. I understand maybe you're
going to be asked to kind of roll with the
punches on certain stories or something like that, right, but

(01:04:33):
this is ridiculous. Yeah. By the way, real quick, before
we get to head coach Willie Fritz, I found the quote.
This is a Twitter person at R and R Bulletin.
His name is Ralph Okay, Rest and Relactation Bulletin. This
is when Frober had the no hitter going and we
got pulled. Okay, mister Crane should fire a spot for

(01:04:55):
pulling Fromber. Oh yeah, if I own the team. That
would be the rule he puts in all Caps. Never
pull a pitcher that has a no hitter going a
no hitter. A no hit pitcher stays in the game
even if he has a thrown one hundred and fifty pitches. You, sir,
are an idiot, stupid, and thank god you are nowhere

(01:05:16):
near running a baseball organization. Yes, and that's today's non
good tweet of the day. Did we should a dumbass
suit of the day. It's part of a show. You
bring one, I bring one, just a flat out dumbass
fuit of the day every single day. I mean we
could probably find it. It wouldn't take it very long.
You can probably get it done by eighty thirty. Okay,
I can do it, all right. Willie Fritz to join

(01:05:36):
this radio program next Wonderful You're off you can work
on Believe it or Not today All Things about the
Natty one twenty eight on Sports Talk seven ninety. Once
a week we get the pleasure to visit with the
head football coach of the University of Houston. Cougar's name
is Willie Fritz, and he's brought to you by the
joint Chiropractical official chiropractor of University Houston Athletics coach. Thanks

(01:06:01):
for the visit as always this week, and you mentioned
the pout rules, so let's get it out of our system.
To get out out of our frame of conversation. What
was the powt roll like after that unfortunate performance against
the U and OLB this past Saturday.

Speaker 12 (01:06:15):
Well, I just tell your guys, you know, you know,
you got twelve of these opportunities that you're guaranteed with
and you got to put everything into each one that
you possibly can. And even if you played well, you know,
you know you won the game by fifty you know,
you sit there and you revel and your successes, you're
not gonna be focused on the task in hands. So
I have a pot gloat rule. And after twenty four hours,

(01:06:36):
we're done. We're moving on to the next deal. And
and uh, you know it's uh, I've been doing it forever,
so it's not difficult for me. But you know, I
gotta get the kids, you know, on board, and make
sure the other coaches are on board and understand that,
you know, we got to put all of our attention
in the next ball game against the University of Oklahoma
you know, if we want to play as well as

(01:06:57):
we're capable of playing. So disappointed, you know, last Saturday,
I made way too many mistakes, you know, and that's disappointing,
and we had to clean that up big time.

Speaker 3 (01:07:13):
You we mentioned sixty three new players, and all sixty
three played last week, But how long does it take
for a team that has had such a changeover like that.
And I don't know if you've ever had in your
career been through that to get through. Yes, it's cool
working with each other and practice every day for a month,
but it certainly is a little bit different when you're
going against other people that want to take you guys down.

Speaker 12 (01:07:34):
No, you're exactly right. It's you know, this is you
know the I've done this quite a few times where
I've taken over programs that have been down and got
them going in a different direction. But it's been the
first time I've done it, as you just mentioned, where
I've got so many new guys and we just got
to get everybody on the same page. Been working hard.

(01:07:57):
Everybody's working hard within our program. But it's just, you know,
you got to do your one eleventh. You can't make
you know, mistakes on. You know, with one guy, you
know you've heard mentioned many times do your one eleventh
and everybody doesn't one eleventh. You got an opportunity to
have a successful play, but he just had too many

(01:08:19):
bus and uh then also some penalties. You know, we
talk all the time about the coogs don't beat the koug's,
And I was really disappoint our special teams. We had
four penalties which nullified a couple of really big returns.
So you know, those are the areas that we're really
trying to work out the assignment sound and then also
play clean football.

Speaker 3 (01:08:42):
Welly uh depth chart, I guess is asked all the
time for coaches on a week to week basis, And
when you win big games, you don't necessarily worry about it.
But if you lose in a game that I think
a lot of folks disappointing, including yourself. Like the easy
question is how much shuffling has there been, how much
consideration will there be for this game against Oklahoma? And
and how much do you spend with your coaches. I'm

(01:09:02):
at whiteboard looking at that group saying, all right, these
guys deserve a second chance. These guys deserve an opportunity
to get a little more playing time. Where do you
balance at right now? Just want one week end of
the season.

Speaker 12 (01:09:14):
Well, you're really hit it on the head. I mean,
there's there's you know, some of the guys got a
really good look at see what they're capable of doing.
And when the lights come on, how are they going
to play? How are they going to react the lights on?
Playing against the opposite color jersey? And you know, there's
some guys who've moved up on the depth charts, some
guys have moved down, and some guys that are still

(01:09:34):
kind of jocking for position right there. Uh, some guys
will get opportunities based on how they they played. Sometimes
it's based on injury and move up. And most of
the time, you know, everybody gets their opportunity, you know,
and it's it's always interesting to see who's ready to
take advantage of that opportunity. I've had to tell a
few guys that just just keep working hard and at

(01:09:57):
some point in time, you're going to get a chance
to show what you can do. And it sure would
be a shame if you weren't able.

Speaker 4 (01:10:02):
To do it.

Speaker 3 (01:10:04):
How was Donovan's arm after everything? I know that he
had come off of off season surgery, and I know
that everything going into camp was good to how did
you feel like the zip was there? If it was,
will there be some You used three quarterbacks in the game,
and a lot of it was because of the score, obviously,
but uh, does that is that situation not necessarily with
Donovan starting, but fluid in terms of maybe getting a
second single caller and just to kind of maybe change

(01:10:24):
of pace things now and then.

Speaker 12 (01:10:27):
Well there's an opportunity with change of pace, that's true.

Speaker 3 (01:10:30):
But you know, we got to you know, for a
quarterback to play well.

Speaker 12 (01:10:34):
You know, I mentioned this before. I've had guys that
were great quarterbacks and they weren't maybe surrounded by a
fantastic supporting cast and they look like an average quarterback.
And I've had some average quarterbacks who had a fantastic
sporting cast and everybody thought they, you know, the next
great uh you know, the Andre Ware coming up. You know,
So it's got to be you know, you got to play,

(01:10:59):
you know, as a unit on the offensive side of
the ball, and quarterbacks only as good as his offensive line,
his receivers, his tight ends, his running backs, you know,
and we just got to get everybody you know, the Donovan.
Obviously he's better, you know, better than what he showed
on Saturday. But I really feel like a bunch of
those other guys were better than what they showed on Saturday, too,

(01:11:20):
So everybody's got to get better.

Speaker 3 (01:11:22):
Was there one part of the game that you did like?
I mean, it's hard to be negative Nancy for the
full conversation, So I'm curious if there's something that you
would like to say, Hey, I'll be honest with you,
you know, with the fact the offense just had such
a difficult time moving and the penalties and whatnot. I mean,
from a defensive perspective, I thought your guys did as
much as they could for as long as they were
out there.

Speaker 12 (01:11:41):
Yeah, I really thought we played well, you know, especially
in the second half defensively, who stayed over the top.
Now they weren't throwing the ball much, but I thought
we'd tackled better. We were more assignment sound. So there
were some things that looked, you know, good on the
defensive of the ball. But you never know what your

(01:12:02):
pack the victory is, and sometimes it's on one side
of the ball's got to play fantastic. The other side
of the ball struggling, and you know, we have room
for improvement on that side of the ball as well.
But there were some some good things that we saw,
you know, on the defensive side of the ball.

Speaker 3 (01:12:17):
Frankly, coach Oklahoma had very little trouble with Temple. You
obviously have seen the game film on that. The one
thing that probably turned that contest around pretty quickly was
the fact that Temple insisted on giving the Oklahoma extra
possessions six turnovers. So that's always a key. But you
just that number is you can't beat anybody who're giving
the ball up that many times, No.

Speaker 4 (01:12:36):
You can't.

Speaker 12 (01:12:37):
You know, we talk all the time about are playing
to win. The first component of that is one of
the turnover takeaway margin. And you know, I think I
lost two games in my career plus two or better,
you know, so it's plus six, you're gonna win, and
you're gonna win big.

Speaker 4 (01:12:52):
You know.

Speaker 12 (01:12:52):
So we've got to do a great job of hanging
out on the football and win that phase in the
ball game as well. When you get us we had
a big interception, but we get two or three more
takeaways and and uh, you know, give ourselves an opportunity
to change field position. There's too much you know, on
our end of the field instead of the other end
of the field, you know, last Saturday. And in order

(01:13:16):
to have those big plays, you got to have big
pun kick returns, and we had a couple I got
called back. We got to have, you know, do a
good job of getting some takeaways, you know, and and
you know, getting two or three of those and give
us some short fields for our offense. And then if
you don't score a touchdown, you still have put them,
you know, behind the eight ball, having to have drive

(01:13:38):
eighty eighty five yards at the score so uh much.
We've got to do much better job playing complimentary football.

Speaker 3 (01:13:47):
Lastly, you've got so many guys that have played elsewhere,
so being in big venues should not be overwhelming. But
they'll have some young men on this football field that
you'll be putting in cougar uniform on that will be
in front of you know, a large hostile crowd. Uh
kind of things will you be telling them before kickoff
in terms of don't let that sooner red overwhelm you
at least early in the game.

Speaker 12 (01:14:09):
Well, you know, I've been over there a couple of
times playing you know, we met from my last school,
and it's a great venue, without question, you know, but
you just got to you got to play within the
white lines and just worry about what's going on there.
You know, some of our guys, in an excellent job
of that last episode, didn't do a very good job.
They're worried about things going on and it stands or

(01:14:30):
you know, whatever the case may be. You got to
you got to focus on the task in hand and
for three and a half hours in order to play
the very best that you possibly can. And you know,
we've we've got to get now worried about, you know,
mall the pomp and circumstance going on with the ball game.
We just got to worry about playing the very best
we're capable playing.

Speaker 3 (01:14:50):
Coach, great visitors, always, thank you for the time, Good luck.
I'll see you Saturday up in the Norman and we'll
talk again next week. We appreciate the visitors always.

Speaker 12 (01:14:58):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (01:15:47):
Matt Thomas and Rossby a real two guys, extremely passionate

There's no pillow between you and more lunchtime Houston Sports
Talk on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 3 (01:16:16):
Time is one forty eight. It is about Thomas show
you already to shut some people bum asses up. I
got two companies on my mind right at the top,
rossy twelve minutes in a way. Ain't scared all right,
abably gonna ruin my future potentially working for one of
those networks. But I'll be fine. I'm pretty busy as
it is. Okay, Uh, what else we got going on?

(01:16:39):
I don't esterday you were working on believing it out today?
All things Cincinnati, things cin Sinnata. You want to give
a little free tease away? Uh hmmm, let me try
to pick one, all right? Sure, Cincinnati has several sister cities,
including Munich, Germany, and I'm on Jordan. Really do we

(01:17:00):
have a sister city? Believe it?

Speaker 4 (01:17:02):
We do?

Speaker 3 (01:17:03):
I'm sure Houston? Okay, Okristen, So those sisters sister cities
are telling them one more time. We got ten of them. Okay,
what's what's sin Santa? Since I'm on Jordan and Munich Germany? Hmmmm, okay,
I got you here? We Uh yeah, I got Houston's
right here, east an Bul, East den Bul, Leipzig in Germany. Okay,

(01:17:25):
niece in France? All right, Perth Australia. Shen's in China, Tampico, Maico?
How you in Russia? What do we do with these
sister cities? Anything? Basra Iraq? Man, why don't you gotta
head over to Basra Iraq and again tell us how
things are gonna pass on that? Are you sure? Yeah?

(01:17:46):
Why heal? Ecuador. It's a lot of work there. What
you just said, by the way, is okay, We're gonna
move on to something. Spain. Okay, We're good.

Speaker 4 (01:17:55):
Sorry.

Speaker 3 (01:17:56):
Why is the NFL playing game in Brazil? I don't know. Oh,
we know, it's funny. Here's the story today. Sam Polo
has tightened security ahead of the first game in South
America after players voice concerns about traveling to Latin America's
largest country. The game between the Eagles and the Packers

(01:18:18):
is this Friday. Players have questioned security in the city,
the largest in the southern atmosphere. This is a AJ
receiver A. J. Brown of the Eagles said, we had
a meeting with a whole bunch of dues and don'ts
I'm just trying to go down there when a football
game and come back home. He said players were advised
not to walk on the streets holding cell phones.

Speaker 12 (01:18:39):
Hm.

Speaker 3 (01:18:43):
They told us. They told us, we can't do too
much going on because the crime rate is crazy. The
first thing people are thinking is like some terror possibly
could happen. I told my family, do not come down there,
because I'm not going to be nowhere to be found.
I'm going to be in the hotel, chillin' mine in
my business, playing my game after a long nine and

(01:19:05):
a half hour flight. This is Darius Slay said this
on Twitter. Then he had to go back to Twitter
and apologize. I want to apologize anyone I offended. That
wasn't my interest. I'm looking forward to playing in your
beautiful country, and I've heard y'all are very passionate, just
like our amazing Eagles fan. Just a few more days,

(01:19:25):
can't wait? Ah? Did he really have to do that,
Just a few more days. I cannot wait to be
in your crime ridden country. Brazil in twenty twenty three
ranked is the seventeenth most dangerous country in the world
by murder rate. Oh, okay, only seventeenth. Sam Polo State
says the local homicide rate is four times lower than

(01:19:48):
the national average. Compares that to California down below washingt
DC for example. Okay, so it's safer than DC. That's good.
They're leaving today, nine and a half hour flight. Yeah,
I'm pulling up rankings of kind. Well this is twenty
twenty two numbers. It'll work. Yeah, New Orleans is more dangerous.

(01:20:11):
It looks like Brazil. Yeah, poo, no, I have not.
I'd love to go. Yeah, it's supposed to be real
dangerous and medying Columbia. I went there. It was, it
was beautiful. I had never felt in danger for one second.
But also, I mean you stay in the night. Well,
actually we were kind of in the ghettos for a
little bit there. I remember going to cover the Orders

(01:20:32):
Cowboys game in Mexico City and they were uh uniformed,
I mean, malicious all over the place. And that was also,
you know, twenty five years ago, so I can't see. Yeah,
the I mean the Astros played in Mexico City was
at this year. Yeah, this year, this year. That was
when the true line started. It feels like two years
ago at this point. Remember after that series of two
games soup against Cottorado, they were a different baseball team. Yeah,

(01:20:55):
jord and Alvarez loved hitting in Mexico City. I think you,
and I would have loved hitting in Mexico City, might
have got one out.

Speaker 12 (01:21:00):
You know what.

Speaker 3 (01:21:01):
I loved hitting there. Chas McCormick. Ooh, I thought you're
gonna say Maurso Dubon or Jake Myers. Jake Myers was there.
I think chat oh Chado was hurt. I don't think
he was there, So, you know, honestly, and I understand
why these players are doing it. But the Players Association,
if they really wanted to take a stand and say,

(01:21:22):
don't send us places that are unsafe, all sounds like
they're gonna be fine. Just don't walk around with your
cell phone out. You're gonna get robbed. Seventeen countries cities
in the top fifty. Mexico is worse as far as
murder rate. Brazil second with ten. United States third, We're
coming to Bronze with seven cities. So what's the most

(01:21:45):
dangerous city in America right now? Well, according to this
murder rate chart from twenty twenty two, it's New Orleans.
And again, I've been there a dozen times. And oh,
let's put it this way. During the daytime, I don't
feel unsafe in New Orleans. At night, I careful where
I walk you should be, but not really is any city.
If you're in Houston, I've walked like from three am

(01:22:07):
from Harris Casino to a hotel. Yeah, probably gotta watch
you probably put you gotta put your wallet in front
of your in your front pocket. Yes, and I think
you then in Vegas, yeah, but you gotta look around.
I mean again, that could be in You could be
in Omaha and be worried about it. Of course, there
are random acts of violence, but I would say, you know,
you can get hit by straight bullets. Anything can happen.

(01:22:29):
One time, one time, I was in Hawaii calling a
football or basketball game, I don't remember which one it was,
and I was not feeling well, and I was you
know they have these ABC stores. Yes, they have ABC
store and VIG in Vegas as well. And I went
by myself and the ABC stores are like every fifty
yards or like Starbucks most places. And I was out
there by myself. I've had one hundred and two degree temperature.

(01:22:49):
Probably it wasn't feeling great, uh huh. And I just
walk around and the girl says, you want to party.
I'm like, I would love to party, uh, but I
have one hundred two degree temperature. Okay, So you ask
her how much and she said it was too much. Well,
I said out, I didn't have any money, okay, and
then she left me. Okay, she don't want to party yet.
She didn't want to party with the guy with one
hundred two degree temperature and not me. You pay for it. See,

(01:23:10):
you weren't in danger. She was just want to see
if you're looking for a good time. Gonna be great
of a world, said, girl comes up to you and says,
I just want to party? Want to When she says
want to party, it usually means how much you want
to party? I don't zero. I don't know each other, okay,
I haven't built a relationship together yet. I don't know
who you are. You don't know who I am. Why

(01:23:30):
are you asking me to charge you to party with you?
It's the world's oldest profession Matt and Brazil as well.
Is that? Is it legal here? I don't know. Why
do you go find out? We not googling that on
my work computer? Why don't you google number one? I
have no idea number two. I don't need to know. Yeah,
I think our work computers are okay at this point
that look at something right. Yeah, I'm sure you're you've

(01:23:52):
been flagged by the company. I'm sure I cleansed it
out of once in a while, just to make sure
Google chromeb is her friend. Oh they still take your data.
Say you're a sign in a Gmail it's ooh okay,
thanks for the advice on that. Hey, let's tell some
people to shut their bomb asses if you want to.
We have Fort Whitley coming up as well in thirty
five minutes. It's been a busy show today, hugely busy.

(01:24:14):
It's two hours are in. Yeah, we're done. What we
got one hour like this? So we got shut your
bomb ass up Forst Whitley and believe it or not,
that's how you spend the two o'clock arro on the
mat time the show seven one three two one two

talks to you at the office endlessly about babble that

(01:24:36):
you don't care about. You're trying to get your job done,
tell them an nobody got time for that. Seven one
three two one two five seven nine zero. Yes, that's
a good phone number. How about a good website fixmilow
t dot com because you do have a lot of
options when it comes to testosterone treatment. Why Synergenics. First
of all, they got clinics all over town, so it's
going to be very convenient for you to find one

(01:24:58):
near you at fixmilow t dot com. Second of all,

Centergenics because they are the experts. When you get your
results back what you getting back, by the way, at

tea dot com. That's why you choose Centergenics again fixmiload
te dot com for Synergenics.

Speaker 2 (01:25:30):

Speaker 4 (01:25:47):
All right, here we go.

Speaker 3 (01:25:49):
It is our favorite half hour of the week. We
don't break down Texans linebackers. We don't get into fifty
three man. We don't cuss and discoos, we don't do
any what stuff. We just we just lay it all out.
We're mad at people. You need an avenue to tell
people how you really feel. That's what the Mad Tommy
Show is all about. It two o two on this Wednesday,

(01:26:11):
We're off tomorrow. Back yes with Fire and Brimstone on Friday. Okay,
we'll make night cap tomorrow at six pm. You're on
sports Talk seven y. It's not worth it. You'll be
wasting your time. I'd listen to something else. All right,
thanks for the support. It's fine. Let's get to it
shit Rossy. Yes, if somebody is mad at somebody for

(01:26:34):
doing something wrong, okay, you simply call seven one three
two one two fibe seven hoey. You tell these people
to do this. Shut their by mess up, shut their
by mass. It's okay. It's a computer. And uh if
a certain group of television executives, UH decide they can't
get it along with other groups of network executives and

(01:26:56):
television and you bar that channel from being on a
certain provider satellite provider. You tell me nobody got time
from you being blocked out. Hey, nobody got time and
that's me Treck TV.

Speaker 1 (01:27:07):
Listen to me.

Speaker 3 (01:27:09):
I'm coming for a bigger discount. You thought you got
away with an easy five minute phone call yesterday.

Speaker 4 (01:27:14):
Eh.

Speaker 3 (01:27:16):
I want free channels, I want rebates, I want apologies.
I want the executive of the Walt Disney Company, Yes,
to come on this radio show and say we're sorry,
we can't get along with Marek Marie. Ain't nobody got
time for the SEC network, ESPN, ESPN two, ESPN News.

(01:27:41):
What else is there? ABC to be off my channels?
Anybody got time for that? Nobody got time today. I'm
so sorry, Matt. I don't believe you're sorry at all.
You don't care. I am sorry. Actually, why wouldn't I
be sorry? You invited me to your house to watch
those things on those channels. Oh okay, here's the thing,
So Mom, this weekend we'll watch you a college football

(01:28:02):
and the NFL Sunday Astros play Arizona on ESPN and
the ESPO only. All right, come on, I'll have a resolve.
I'm coming to your house. Yeah, I'll put on Sunday
Night Football and Sunday Night baseball be a great evening. Ooh,
I spend quite a time with the villary out family.
I'm all in, yeah, let's go, let's go what you
got this week? Uh, I'm just gonna go to the
Astros pr and whoever in general, because I mean, what
happened with this whole Kyle Tucker thing. Like I said,

(01:28:24):
you don't necessarily need to owe it to us, but
to lie to us for as long as you did
to so mistrust and then to have Dana Brown come
on and talk about it's the front of the bone
and it's the back of the bone, and the ball
went through the bone, and the back's cracked and it's
not cracked in the front, and it's very confusing. But
that explos explanation didn't make any sense. None of it
makes any sense. Why ain't nobody have time for the

(01:28:44):
Astros to lie about injuries? Ain't nobody got ill on
his little transparency, not full transparency, but more than when
we got Look, we don't need to see the guy's
medical charts, but to lie for months was just bizarre.
Even if you were a protect yourself or the player
before the trade deadline, then you guess what Rossie August second.

(01:29:05):
Tell us the truth. Yeah, whatever, just tell us the
truth Monday's at one thirty on Sports Talk seven. I
know we tell the truth there. Well, I don't know.
You said Coucci wasn't gonna go and throw seven innings off.
That was a take I was I believed it. I
was wrong. I got news for you. All My takes
are not always correct, what but most of them are
cut that. I can't believe you even said that out loud.

(01:29:26):
Proud of you, Met I could double down and be
an ass and go. No, I didn't think you say
Kakucci could go the distance. You say, no, Connor, we're
playing a new sound bite. Remember we didn't want to
doing that anymore. Oh we're not. No, we're not doing
Lisa Low. Let me guess you can know, Lisa Low.
You guess what you got the Beatles or something? Lisa,
shut your ball? Mess up? Woman. Oh he's taking royalties

(01:29:49):
off of this now. Yeah, he's striking out people like crazy. Yeah,
you should we should be playing you say from Hello, goodbye.
That's fine, Connor. What's the matter with you? This week?

Speaker 5 (01:30:02):
So, my brother and I hosted some friends for a
Labor Day weekend at Lake, Livingston. We had a great
time and decided to do a little bit of a
fireworks show for other people in the neighborhood Saturday night.
So we went to the boat launch a little after
nine o'clock, so it wasn't super late, and we weren't
in anybody's way, and there's some other some kids there
and some of the people that are watching the fireworks.
We were almost done and then a seventy year old

(01:30:23):
woman sped her car through the boat launch and stopped
in the middle of our firework show and proceeded to
yell at us from the car. Ryan when she was
about to leave, she got out of the car. Then
you could very tell she was drong. She just and
she's yelling us for being there and shooting off fireworks,
which we were allowed to be there. She was claiming
there was a burden. Bench didn't even know what county
we were in, and she kind of ruined the whole vibe.

(01:30:44):
So to the old woman that kind of ruined our
night and was cursing and stuff in front of our
neighbors and we're trying to do a nice thing, a
little fireworks show.

Speaker 3 (01:30:50):
Shut your bumb ass upup, man, there's nothing better than
telling a seventy year old woman to shut her bumb
ass up. I don't know it might be on her side.

Speaker 5 (01:30:58):
I fire nine o'clock on a SATURDAYWN labor day. It's
nine o'clock on a labor day. I know you still
about fireworks cross, but come on, seriously.

Speaker 3 (01:31:08):
Look, I need to look.

Speaker 10 (01:31:09):
Look.

Speaker 3 (01:31:09):
I need to see what the burn band when it
was possibly in place in this county. I'm more curious
about you because how big was your group of people?
Nine people? Nine yes, including myself, okay, all males, four males,
five girls. Good for you, nice work. So I just

(01:31:30):
gotta have a good ratio. You went on a ratio card.
I'm kind of getting it. I'm kind of getting the vibe.
I didn't understand this when we first started working here,
but yeah, he's a player. Connor's got juice. Connor, you
have more game than I ever would have thought you
would have had, and I'm here to watch it. By
the way to the this is coming, I get this

(01:31:51):
email from the producers of the Reagan movie. Tell those
people that hated our movie to shut their bass up. Man.
Oh wow, I'll explain why mass up man. Reagan earned
nine point two million dollars last weekend.

Speaker 2 (01:32:05):
Is that good?

Speaker 3 (01:32:07):
It got eighteen percent overall approval score from movie critics. Meanwhile,
those that went to it gave it a ninety eight
percent approval. Wow, it is the largest gap between critics
and audiences in Hollywood history. Eighty percent difference between people
that saw it and the critics that reviewed it. Tomato

(01:32:28):
meter looks like it's up to twenty two percent. Okay,
it still seems like a massive, massive discrepancy. Do you
know how much political bias was there on both sides?
Probably quite a bit. Well, I don't know, Matt, what
was that? That was my Reagan? Do rainbow connection with Reagan?

(01:32:51):
What does that even mean? You know you sing Garrett
Cole singing Kermis it's rainbow connection. Then they have the
song you sing you a lovely Day? Yeah? Or lovely
day do run a ring and lovely day? Let's shake
you right now? No, it's not I want to hear more.
I want doing it. I want to hear more of
this Reagan.

Speaker 2 (01:33:09):
No, there's no reason for this.

Speaker 3 (01:33:11):
What guess are we having on a two thirty today?
I don't even know. It's Force Whitley. Yeah. So go ahead,
say what is that? Gotta promote the show simn two
thirty in yournd Reagan voice, or sing too, this is
even better. Good job by you, Connor happening right here
we go, you Jenny random Kermit.

Speaker 2 (01:33:31):
Come in in the morning, though I can't even do it.

Speaker 3 (01:33:34):
You're laughing in the sunlight. In the sunlight, Nancy, sunlight,
hre's my eyes? Nancy here? What is wrong with you?
You're gonna ask yourself what I'm here for it? Three
the bad time of show. Alright, I'm sorry. That was awful.

(01:33:59):
You ought to be a silly embarrassed well so, yeah,
I did about as good as didis Quaid according to
some of the Well, the audience that went loveday that's good.
Oh my god, that was funny. Seven one three two
one two well, seven one three. You just gotta throw
a well in there, that's all I know. Yeah, seven

Speaker 2 (01:35:23):

Speaker 4 (01:35:24):

people and then they cry to me about it.

Speaker 2 (01:35:50):
Yeah, I have to deal with it.

Speaker 3 (01:35:51):
Well, you're weird whatever for whatever reason. Deserve random people
for no reason. There's probably some reasons. So whoever fleet pay,
sent it to Ross and I will not only unblock you,
but I'll fall in. It's ridiculous. Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety Arthur on sevenointiye, Arthur, what's

(01:36:12):
the matter with you?

Speaker 10 (01:36:14):
Yeah? All through the before football season got ready to start,
I mean a lot of beat writers and sports commentators
saying that this big seat then stroud to have sophomore slump.
I believe you have too much offense around and he
too cerebral and to a quarterback to have a sophomore slump.

Speaker 4 (01:36:37):
So to all those.

Speaker 10 (01:36:38):
Sports writers and beat writers that's been saying that ship
you out, bomb ass.

Speaker 3 (01:36:43):
Up, ship to bum ass up man, no possible chance
rossing that he could have a sophomore slump, says our
man Arthur there CJ. Strouder, speaking of Yep. I think
he could. I think it's possible that he was neared
the ceiling, but I don't think so. I think he

(01:37:03):
will get better. I don't know. I do you do
franchise quarterback? Put your name on it. I did. I've

Speaker 3 (01:39:31):
Hmmm. Hey, nobody get after a big, big motor, a
big motor, big motor company. Easily for me to say, yes,
it's fine. My wife has a mia that she bought
many years ago. Okay, and uh it's been the shop

Nobody got time for that?

Speaker 4 (01:39:53):
All right?

Speaker 3 (01:39:53):
Last call you guys want to get something in seven

I think I'm good right now, count Are you all right?

Speaker 7 (01:40:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:40:06):
I'm okay. Besides that old lady hates in Livingston. Yeah,
I really do hate her. So how did you guys
resolve your your conflict? We just said we would leave
because she she wouldn't leave. Did you swear at her?

Speaker 7 (01:40:17):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (01:40:18):
No.

Speaker 5 (01:40:18):
I tried to be logical and respectful, but it's hard
to do that with an irrational person who was drunk.

Speaker 3 (01:40:25):
She was drunk, oh yeah. And driving around yeah, oh
much was the scary part because you know, you didn't
know what she had in the car or whatever. So, man,
she's about to pull out the peace on you see
what I'm saying. I mean in that part of the time,
point blank, Texas.

Speaker 4 (01:40:38):
You never know.

Speaker 3 (01:40:39):
So y'all spend that night at this lake house, all
nine of you? Yeah, huh, dang, I want to go
to that. I want to go to his Livingston lakehouse.
Why we've invited you? You guys want to do a
weekend trip? Y'all play cards? We played played a lot
of games. Yeah, no beer pong, actually, just drinking County
by the way, Spin the bottle, Spin the bottle, No,

(01:41:01):
spin the bottle. Now, everybody was twenty three and older,
so I got you. Oh so that game that can't
be in that group. That group's too young for me.
That's true. He'll be passed out by eight thirty. I
mean that's accurate. But hey, last night and we had
in Vegas, you were out till after three. I would
have said it longer, my ass. It looks like you'd
rather be anywhere else, but you're up. God, I would

(01:41:24):
I could have set up all night long.

Speaker 1 (01:41:25):
I was not.

Speaker 3 (01:41:26):
When I went to bed at two thirty, two forty five,
I was. I was like, I don't want to go
to sleep, but I ran out of money and I
will not go to the ATM machine because that will
only cause problems.

Speaker 1 (01:41:35):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (01:41:36):
I mean I've had a couple of atm rallies. Oh
you mean problems at home? No, my own self. I
don't want to do that. That's not I mean, I
had the money, I just went to. I've had multiple
atm rallies on Monday. Good for you also had multiple
ATM bustos. It's gonna happen. All right, let's go to
uh GEO on seven ninety geo, what's the matter with you? Ahi?

Speaker 2 (01:41:58):
Guys?

Speaker 6 (01:41:58):
So my son is the seventh grade and he started
football for the first time. Uh So he's super excited
and I'm super excited as his dad as well.

Speaker 4 (01:42:07):
You know.

Speaker 6 (01:42:08):
So he had his first game yesterday and I'm on
my way to the game right off of work, and
he texted me, Dad, I forgot my cleats at school.
So I had to go to the mix right by
the school and buy him a brand new pair of cleats.
Get there on time, I give it to him, and
then when we leave, we come home, he says he

(01:42:29):
forgot he forgets his helmet at the game, so now
I'm going to pay. Now I have to pay two
hundred dollars to his school for a new helmet. Xavier,
I love your son, but ain't nobody got time for that.

Speaker 3 (01:42:42):
Ain't nobody Bill, That is a horrific story. And I'm
sorry for you, but I've I feel your pain. My
daughter has left lots of different My oldest kids would
leave equipment all over the time. I used to This
is going to shock you, Matt. I used to always
forget cleat, glove, bat something. Geo's got to pay two
hundred dollars for a helmet. That's tough, that's real tough.

(01:43:07):
Didn't he didn't tell us how his son played, though,
I mean hope maybe you got at least two tackles
or ran the ball five yards for a loss. There
is nothing, frankly more painful than watching junior high football.
Thanks not for Geo. If his son played, well, it's
all worth it. But just to go to a Rando
junior high game to watch somebody play football not fun.

(01:43:27):
Why are you going to Rando junior high football when
my kids were in junior high?

Speaker 4 (01:43:31):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:43:31):
They go so the Riverwood Longhorns. How did you know that?
Because I remember because I took a picture you went
and you wore the shirt. I still have a shirt
Bookham Horns. Maddie closet Longhorn. No, you're actually closet, Aggie.
But I think you're out of that closet. Actually, well,
I mean he's graduating in a year. That's good. He's
very happy to be in even before your son went there. No,

(01:43:52):
I could care less year. No, you're always closet, agg No, it.

Speaker 7 (01:43:55):
Was not well.

Speaker 3 (01:43:56):
He used to make fun of Aggie's always winning your
family ties. No, because the Aggies were always bragging on
championships and never really won. Yeah, they add a couple
of more. You don't even add to that asking who
they got this week? Aggies have should be a cupcake, right,
it is okay McNee steak. Okay, the Cowboys coming into

(01:44:20):
town collecting a check's good? Yea? On what the spread
of they're doing spreads now in FCS games, right, I
think some of them. I mean, Condor wingman needs that
mcnewstay game the worst way. He did not look a good. No,
he did not look good. Maybe it'll turn out that
Notre Dame is really great and it wasn't that bad
of a loss. But if you're an Aggi fan right now,
we haven't had it's fine. We haven't had one Aggie

(01:44:41):
call this week.

Speaker 2 (01:44:41):
That's weird.

Speaker 3 (01:44:42):
We have several last week saying they were gonna beat
Notre Dame. Yeah, feelings, yeah, but a Notre Dame is
what you're gonna get week in and week out in
the SEC. McNeese off the board as of the moment.
But how are they going to win six games? If
if kind of wingmen throw, I mean, what's your schedule
the rest of the way. Let's take a look. They
get three more cupcake on the way, I think, yeah,

(01:45:02):
but you but you want to win league games, right,
that's what you're that's what you want to do. Correct.
You don't need them to get Bowl eligible? Mmm? Yeah,
McNeice this week, and then let's see what they got
after that. They go, oh, they got bullet at Florida.
That's a winnable game. Yes, we know that for a fact.
Could that be the last game for the Gators coach

(01:45:24):
BILLI Napier. I don't think he'd get fired. Then No,
Then home for Bowling Green Huge, Arkansas. I'm consuming it's
in Arlington. It is in Arlington, home from Missouri, their
number nine in the country. That's an l You gotta
go to that game, Connor am game October? Are you going?
I'm trying to go. Yeah, it's eleven o'clock start too, yesh,

(01:45:47):
can you get me tickets? Mat, it'd be in the
aggie section. That's fine. Who are taking with you? Which
one of the two girls? Probably? I had no girls,
just my one of my friends that we had school with. Well,
isn't I know? There's you know Ben Dubo's went to Missouri.
There's a huge Missouri like alumni group here. Weren't just
party with those guys Ari Ari Alexander as well? Oh

(01:46:09):
wow wow, a lot of Missouri people there all right
at Mississippi State possibility right, Okay, Home for LSU definite
possibility after what they did against USC at South Carolina.
That's a possibility because they barely beat there good New Mexico.
Wait a minute, they're playing New Mexico State, Bowling Green,

(01:46:31):
and McNeese all at home this year. Shame on you,
A and m yes at Auburn home for Texas. I'm
gonna tell Peyton not to go to Texas. They also
have listed on their schedule SEC Championship. Well, I mean,

(01:46:51):
it's still within the realm of possibility. They should still
have their pretention. Maybe they run the table. There'd be
the top twelve if they do that. Yeah, it's a possibility.
Don't lie, don't, don't get don't I mean, yeah.

Speaker 11 (01:47:04):
You're right.

Speaker 3 (01:47:04):
They're gonna beat Bowling Green. They're gonna beat McNeese. That's two.
They're gonna beat New Mexico State. That's straight. That is
the most aggy thing I've ever seen in my life.
What's that having the SEC championship listed on their football
schedule on their official website. But it's a possibility. That's ridiculous.

Speaker 4 (01:47:22):
They're not in this.

Speaker 3 (01:47:23):
It's not on their schedule on teams do that? Do they? Yeah,
go look at it. Let's go find some mid level.
Go find Vanderbilt. Go to Vanderbilt football page. Okay, because
you know Vanderbilt hain't got no chance to hanaway. But hey,
but they frankly a's got a better chance Vanderbilt does.
We'll see what Vanderbilt do this. Okay, let's see if
they have it listed. Let me go to football schedule.

(01:47:46):
All right, this is four oh four not found. I
think that's a bad file. Kidding. They have their last
game listed as Tennessee and no mention championship game. That's
probably smart on their part. Let's go. I'm gon go
to Alabama. We'll go down Alabama very recent realistically, it's chot. Yes,
they want me to buy tickets. Hold on, I'm gonna

(01:48:08):
tell you by Classic Chevrolet. You do that when we
come back. We got Forest Whitley, so oh well, I'll
do the Classic and then you give us the answer.

Speaker 7 (01:48:15):

Speaker 3 (01:48:15):

A and m's a little bit more Adventuresometimes Miszoo does
not have it listed. You can go through all the
Texas does not have it listed. Oh anything ever, Oh,
We're going to list the SEC Championship Game on our website.

(01:49:22):

and Ross here to spend a few minutes with Forrest Whitley,
who helped out the cause a couple of days ago.
Some going to work out of the bullpen and joints
us here as part of the September call ups. Forrest's
Matt Rosco be back on the show today. Uh, your
manager told us that you all had a team dinner
last night, and you heard that Jim picked up the tabs.
You guys are really go overboard. Lots of appetizer's main course, desserts,

(01:50:10):
that kind of thing.

Speaker 1 (01:50:11):
You know.

Speaker 11 (01:50:11):
I tried to I tried to keep it, keep it
at a reasonable level. But I can't.

Speaker 16 (01:50:16):
I can't say the same for other people at the dinner.
But I won't throw anybody under the bus.

Speaker 3 (01:50:20):
Okay, do me this favorite. Look, you've been around long enough.
Just give us one name, just Ryman. We'll figure out
who it is.

Speaker 4 (01:50:29):
Man.

Speaker 11 (01:50:29):
It starts with an af.

Speaker 12 (01:50:32):
Hmm.

Speaker 3 (01:50:34):
Now you got us working on it.

Speaker 11 (01:50:37):
Yeah, leave it up. Leave that up to interpretation for sure.

Speaker 3 (01:50:39):
No, no, no, you gave us all we need to do.
Thank you very much, big fellow. We're happy that you're
back with the team. Uh, it has been a long road,
my man. We don't need to go through all that,
just need to talk about what it's like with this
opportunity you're been given. You got a month to really
kind of, uh honestly make your case for this playoff, Frosted,
Is that how you kind of see it right now?

Speaker 7 (01:51:01):
Yeah?

Speaker 11 (01:51:01):
For sure. I mean I just want to take it
a day at a time.

Speaker 16 (01:51:04):
Every time my name is called, just go out there
and you know, do the best of my ability, and
hopefully I can show these guys that you know, I
can do this.

Speaker 11 (01:51:11):
You know, I firmly believe I can. It's just all
a matter of proven it these next few weeks.

Speaker 3 (01:51:15):
How long did it ultimately take your arm and your
mind to make the adjustment from being a starter for
most of your professional career to going to the bullpen.

Speaker 11 (01:51:24):
You know, it took me a couple of months.

Speaker 16 (01:51:26):
The process is completely different, man, you know, being a
starter for eight years of my career, then going to
the bullpen, and then coming up in April and happened
to make the debut fourth time out of the bullpen. Ever,
you know, that was that was was a pretty tough
thing to do, and it kind of showed that I
wasn't exactly ready for that role, but you know, a
couple a couple months out of my belt.

Speaker 11 (01:51:46):
Kind of getting the process down the pregame and then
in the game.

Speaker 16 (01:51:51):
You know, I felt like I got pretty comfortable and
was obviously throwing the ball pretty well down in triple A.
So yeah, it definitely took some time, but I feel
like I've got a hold of things now.

Speaker 3 (01:52:01):
Obviously not a huge sample size, just the well, the
one recent outing to judge, how do you how do
you feel out there? What do you think as far
as things you need to improve or things and things
you like? You did that you did?

Speaker 16 (01:52:13):
You know, overall I thought I thought it was a
pretty good outing. Obviously the single on the walk, uh,
I didn't like, but able to keep those runs from scoring,
which overall is is great. Three strikeouts is great through
too many pitches, but it is what it is. The
thing that kind of stood out to.

Speaker 11 (01:52:30):
Me was how comfortable I was.

Speaker 16 (01:52:32):
I didn't feel nervous, you know, I felt ready. I
felt like I was I was prepared to get these outs.
So I think that was kind of the biggest thing
for me. It was just the comfortability out there on
the mountain.

Speaker 3 (01:52:41):
Has there been any any conversations with either Joe or
whoever else about any sort of way that you'll be
used or just be ready when we call your name.

Speaker 11 (01:52:51):
It's kind of a be ready when you call your name.

Speaker 16 (01:52:53):
You know, I'm assuming you know, we got some we
got some cabayo's in the bullpen, some really really good arms,
so I'll probably you know, obviously get off the back
end of that. You know, we got a big lead
or we're behind or anything. So I'm assuming that's that's
my role for now. But kind of like I touched
on earlier, you know, hopefully proved myself these next two
weeks and maybe get into some leverage situations if I

(01:53:15):
proved to Joe that I can do that.

Speaker 3 (01:53:17):
Uh, are you gonna write a book when the when
the crew is all said and done, Because I mean,
I give you tremendous credit for battling through injuries. It's
been a long road to get to where you are today.
But were there times that you said, screw this, I've
done all I can. My arm just isn't cooperating. I've
got forearm issues. Whatever the case may be. Maybe this
just wasn't meant for me. And ultimately, how did you

(01:53:37):
decipher I'm not going down that road that I'm going
to figure out a way, somehow, some way to make
my spot back on a major league roster.

Speaker 11 (01:53:45):
You know, the thought never crossed my mind.

Speaker 16 (01:53:47):
I always knew that I had the talent and the
mindset to be able to get out to the big leagues,
whether a starter or a lever or whatever. It was
just kind of an annoying thing that the help wasn't cooperating.
But that's just a part of the game. You know,
a lot of pictures go through injuries. Unfortunately mine we're
just back to back to back and I had to
deal with it and it was tough elementals.

Speaker 11 (01:54:07):
But ultimately I am.

Speaker 16 (01:54:11):
I am happy that I went through because it made
me the player and the person that I am today.
And I think it's I think it's turned out, and
it has turned out pretty well so far. So you know,
we'll just keep moving forward. And I've learned a lot
from from those experiences, and you know, it'll help me
give good advice to young guys hopefully when I'm in
that position.

Speaker 11 (01:54:31):
And as far as a book, I don't, I don't know.
I'm not much of a writer.

Speaker 16 (01:54:34):
Uh, I wouldn't say, I'm the smartest guy in the world,
but my wife is actually, uh a writer and she's
very talented at that.

Speaker 11 (01:54:42):
So maybe something that she could take the lead on
in the future.

Speaker 3 (01:54:45):
Is she an Alimal Heights girl too? No, No, she's
from South Carolina, right, I was gonna say, Alimal Heights
you get you get a you know, done the worry
about that. It's a great high school. It's one of
the best high schools in this entire state. I mean,
you can find some, you know, some writers in that group.
Maybe they could do a biography on you from the
one of your lums you went with school with.

Speaker 4 (01:55:02):
Maybe.

Speaker 16 (01:55:02):
Yeah, absolutely right, you're right about that. We got some
smart people coming out of Alma Heights.

Speaker 3 (01:55:06):
Yeah. Are you sure you want your wife writing a
book about you?

Speaker 16 (01:55:09):
Though, I promise I'm I'm not much of a reader,
but the stuff that I have have read that she
has written is very impressive.

Speaker 11 (01:55:17):
She's actually in the middle of writing a book.

Speaker 3 (01:55:19):
No, I mean, she might say mean things about you
for us. No, I know, I know, but that's okay.
Doesn't doesn't put up the dishes in the right time,
Lesa's socks on the floor.

Speaker 16 (01:55:29):
Oh man, she would she would be bicker than me
about leaving my shoes on the stairs.

Speaker 11 (01:55:33):
Probably.

Speaker 3 (01:55:34):
So she she's writing a book right now. What she writing?
What is she writing a fiction or nonfiction?

Speaker 11 (01:55:39):
She is writing a fiction.

Speaker 16 (01:55:42):
I I don't ask many questions, to be honest with you,
I don't want to put any pressure on her with
the writing and everything, because you know, as you can imagine,
writing a book is probably a lot, especially when you
have a publisher asking for dates.

Speaker 11 (01:55:53):
And and all of those things.

Speaker 16 (01:55:55):
So yeah, I try to stay out of it all,
but I'm obvious the extremely supportive of it.

Speaker 3 (01:56:01):
Who you should be? Are you going to keep the
number sixty long term? Is that the plane? We're going
to try to get to a lower number?

Speaker 11 (01:56:07):
You know, I'd like I'd like something lower, But for
now it's it's fine.

Speaker 16 (01:56:14):
I think ideally, you know, get some innings under my belt,
just be here a little bit longer overall, and I
think i'd mi like a lower Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:56:21):
I think, you know what. It just just you putting
the uniform on is a good thing because there's been
a lot of people that have rooted for you, and
obviously expectations were high, and like I said, there's been
a few curve balls on it at you. But we're
very happy to have you back with us. And frankly,
you're coming in a good time forrest. These Mariners just
helping you out. You guys, keep winning and you'll be
able to finally celebrate something here in a few weeks.

(01:56:43):
But I don't know, some work to be done, but
just getting back in the major league lifestyle that has
to be a very great part of this recovery process
as well. Oh of course, it's.

Speaker 16 (01:56:52):
Everything you dream of, man, you know, especially for me
who's kind of been sitting on the sidelines just right
on the cusp of it for the last three four years.

Speaker 11 (01:56:59):
You know, it's that much sweeter. So I'm just I
couldn't be happier to be here.

Speaker 3 (01:57:04):
And ninety seven on the gun feels good too. Are
you Are you a gun watcher or are you gonna
I'll look at it later.

Speaker 4 (01:57:10):
Oh.

Speaker 11 (01:57:10):
I peep at at every throw.

Speaker 16 (01:57:11):
I need to see where I'm at, you know, Like
if I throw one where I think, you know, that
was eighty percent. I look at at the board that
says ninety eight, you know, I think that's important. Or
I try to muscle one up, I look at the
board and it only says ninety seven. You know, like
you don't need to try that hard.

Speaker 11 (01:57:24):
So I think it's important.

Speaker 2 (01:57:25):
You know.

Speaker 16 (01:57:25):
Sometimes, like I said, you loosen up on a pitch,
maybe a slide step, you throw a curveball. They're like,
oh was that slow? And you look up to see
eighty five. You're like, oh, okay, well that's good to know.
So you know, it's not much of an ego thing
for me. It's more of just a seeing where I'm
at and where my stuff stacks up with hitters that
I'm facing that day.

Speaker 3 (01:57:42):
All right, promise you one thing. Wrap this up. You
guys are up ten to one in a game and
you're there in the ninth inning. Throw me one efist pitch?
Can you do that for me? Give me some of
that been a mid forties, Give me some with a
little little zap to it, you know what I mean,
just a little slow.

Speaker 11 (01:57:54):
I wish I had the capabilities of doing that. It's
hard for me to slow myself down, and especially at
the big league level.

Speaker 7 (01:57:59):
You know.

Speaker 11 (01:58:00):
Now we'll see if I'm tapable of that.

Speaker 4 (01:58:01):
I don't.

Speaker 11 (01:58:01):
I don't like my chances though.

Speaker 3 (01:58:03):
Now you're just bragging. Come on, I mean, now, everybody's
got ninety seven mona or gun, I can throw out
a ne fist. You can do it too. Hey, good
to visit with you. We've talked to you a few
times over the years, and you sound like you're in
a great friend of mine, and we're very happy that
you're back up in and uh continued success. Stay up
there as long as you can and help this team
win this division, and we'll talk with you soon. We
really appreciate it absolutely well.

Speaker 11 (01:58:22):
Thank you guys for the support, and thank you guys
for having me on.

Speaker 3 (01:58:25):

radio program. I think I want to talk to Forest's
why I want to hear about this book. Why so,

(01:58:48):

you know, movies or movies too. Some shows. I'm gonna
go see Reagan even though Rotten Tomatoes told me not
to go see it. Yeah, I want to hear your
Are you good to go see it this weekend? Does
your son really want to go? He's already seen it?

Speaker 4 (01:59:04):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:59:04):
Okay? What he said? He thought it was good, not great?
Were like six out of ten? He said this, And
I don't want to give you too much. It was
told through the voice of someone else. Okay, And you're saying, well,
what does that mean if any of you saw Elvis?
He was told through the eyes of the voice of
Tom Parker. Okay, Colonel Tom Parker didn't watch it. Not bad? Okay,

(01:59:26):
it was good. But I'm a huge biopic by pick
whatever you have pronounce either way, so I'll go see it, okay.
And Dennis Quoyd's University Houston. Guy, you got to support us,
fellow Cougars. Yeah, it's true. And Nancy support Nancy too.
She's dead. I don't need to support her. Nothing else
I can do for the Reagan family. I don't think
the Reagan's are making any money on this, are they?

Speaker 4 (01:59:48):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:59:48):
I hope?

Speaker 7 (01:59:49):
So?

Speaker 3 (01:59:49):
Why why not? It's gonna be a great Why would
any make money on this? I would imagine the estates
make money on these biopics. That's a good question, all right,
believe it or not. Today now, Ross, I need a
ruling from you. Why people call in and say they
