Speaker 1 (00:02):
Lunch timers. This is the Matt Thomas Show, twelve.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
O two and eighthown what's having to lunch timers?

Speaker 3 (00:09):
Good afternoon to you.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
And welcome to a Tuesday edition of The Matt Thomas Show.
This is Sports Talk seven ninety two two.

Speaker 4 (00:18):
And that's a crown ball and one hop hey, you
can't wrap it clainly now picks it up. Toss is
the first and throws it over the head of Withamb
and Whitam chases us down. It'll want it being picked
up by the first basement Krantini. But the Phillies have
runners at first and second with nobody out. When it
looked like the Astro should have been able to turn two,
Loco said ant at the felt Stott takes off and

(00:38):
they haven't picked off, but the throw is thrown away
to Cartini. Stott gets up after sledding in the second
and he'll make it to third the second time in
the last four starts we've seen Blanco have an errant
throw on a pickoff attempt, and now Stott at third
with two out, two in the air left center and

(01:01):
fairly Dame Alvarez going back and it is gone an
opposite field home run for Brandon Marsh's thirteenth long ball
of the year, and it is two to one Astros.
There's nothing at once to Castianos.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
It wasn't a strike, and that's what I'm leaning at.
You don't have to throw him strikes.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
Here's the one and that is lined in the center
of basin. That'll score Harper and we're tied at two.
Nick Castianos comes through with an RBI single.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Well, unfortunately that was a strike.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
Field Sheen in the other way against them. First pitch,
Harper grounds and right side passed out to b and
in the right field of base Hin Shwarper around third,
coming home. Here's the throat of the plate on one
hop down in time gets past Das. Shwarber scores and
Bryce Harper the hero for the Phillies, who win it
three to two. In the bottom of the tenth and

(01:54):
gamble making the throw in from right on a hop
to d As. Even if Daz holds onto it, er
still likely beats it.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Oh, the streets of Philadelphia were not kind of the
local nine yesterday. Good God, No, was the glove work?
What is this man? This is Bruce h I actually
don't mind this song. I think most of his stuff
is ridiculously overrated. Well, this goes with what happened with
the Astros last time. This is depressing as hell. This
is what they put on in the movie when someone's

(02:29):
ending it all. I mean, my god, you seen the
movie Philadelphia Down, Yeah, a long time ago.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
Okay, Well this is from it, so well, yeah that
makes sense.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Yeah, it's not an uplifting there, DU's not an uplifting
song getting the people going now when the Astros win
today or tomorrow or both or both. First song is
Philadelphia Freedom, Okay, and then we got to.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
Go rocky right after that Rocky theme.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Yeah, I mean we're going home with the most Philadelphia
esque songs. Okay, gonna go with some Meek Mill we could, Okay,
I can't name a song of his, but you know,
we'll try. I'm sure a good friend Connor McGovern can,
Aaron Nola the Justin Verlander today, how you feeling bullpen game?

(03:18):
Justin Verlander problem with giving up bombs and facing the
Phillies lineup, But he's been better since he came back
in one start. Yes, but you know, do not have
Josh Hayter available for you for X today or so yes, correct,
Brian A. Bray who's arms still may fall off? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (03:35):
How many games does he pitches? So who would close tonight?
Nearis went again? Yesterday?

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Presley's on the il Yeah, Brian King, Caleb ort nerris
or as you said, Wait, Naris, Uh, he got you what.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
He didn't pitched much yesterday, so I guess he'd give
it out.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
I guess you could go a Bray if you need
it to, Okay, but you don't have Preslin, so the
back end of the bullpen a little compromised. The Astros
have played one hundred and thirty one games. Brian Brady
has appeared in sixty five of them. I believe what
is seventy is his career high seventy two. Seventy two, okay,

(04:14):
so he's not far from that, probably gonna well surpass that.
But that's and that's part of the reason why I
think getting Hectorarius here actually trying to be a pretty
good situation. Do you know who's also pitching? There are
two guys that are pitching really well, and only one
can come up at this point when the rosters expand
comes September.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
Go ahead, Oh, are you gonna say?

Speaker 2 (04:35):
He who shall not be named on a thirty four
and a half million dollar contract or a former one
dash one. Oh maybe not one dash one. I mean
he was a first round he was a first rounder.
But I think I've got it's been so long since
he's been drafted. Well, yeah, we're talking about Rafael Montero Okay,
and Forest Whitley twenty six years old.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
Fall go look at their numbers.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
Let me see last month or so for the Space Cowboys,
they have been excellent, seventeenth overall in twenty sixteen. It
looks like was it.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
Was originally a Pittsburgh pirate draft pick.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
I think he decided to go out and go back,
come back in where he was picked by the Astros.
He was a twenty sixteen er. There are people that
have had multiple children since then. Oh he was committed
to Florida State before that out of San Antonio. That's
weird anyways.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
AnyWho, So those two guys are killing it.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Yes, I don't know. Again, you can only bring up
one position player, which I think it's going to be probably.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
Says our salvos Are would be my guess. Yes, carry
a third catcher.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Anybody else worth their salt and triple a's been called up,
kidding or traded away?

Speaker 3 (05:45):
No kidding.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
You know what I was going to open the show
today because I know a lot of media are running
through the fifty three man in the roster cuts. Yeah,
we're doing full roster cuts. We will do it, but
we will of an ode a farewell to those that
got cut today by the Texans coming up in the
next segment. But I was thinking about this literally as
I was pulling into the garage. Here at the radio station,

(06:10):
there are all these people that are arguing about four five,
six receiving corps, who's the third running back, who's the
third quarterback, who's this extra swing tackle, who's the fifth corner?
You know, all that kind of stuff that I think,
generally speaking, is heavily in minutia and that most people
don't care about. Mm hmm. And I thought to myself,
can you name a sports team that would actually be

(06:32):
successful with the third or fourth best player out there
or the fourth or fifth different person out there? Because
again my point was, if the Texans lose Stefan Diggs
for a significant period of time, if they lose Nico
Collins or Tank Dell, they're screwed. No disrespect to John
Metch or anybody else that's still in the receiving corps.
But there's a difference between one, two and three and

(06:54):
what will be four, five and six. In my mind now,
I thought to myself, that's usually how it goes. But
look at the Astros. The Astros are winning games not yesterday.
Have used Shay Witcom this year, Zach Decenzo. They've used

(07:15):
Mauricio Dubon a lot more than most utility players are
being used. They used Joey Loperfito before they got here.
They went and got Jake Gloss boss quickly.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
We forget from double a.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
Rossie. The Astros are exactly what depth is all about.
And it's so funny because the Astros, at least from
an organizational standpoint, are considered either the twenty seventh, twenty eighth,
or twenty ninth best minor league operation. They have picked
up anything they could they could have used and brought
their major league roster this year, and they've handled themselves

(07:53):
pretty well by and large. Uh yeah, I mean it
happens in football as well. Derek Barnett was signed by
on waivers the Texans last year, right, didn't Yeah, they
were signing guys off the street. Yeah, the offensive line
to a lot of people were contributing. So it happens
if football. Does it happen in football more than it
does any other sport is the nature of how many

(08:16):
injuries will well, So fifty three it does matter down
to the fifty three. To me, I still don't believe
it matters in the fifty three because if number one
is hurt on the fifty three, your toast.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
Yeah, I mean, yeah, that matters.

Speaker 5 (08:28):
Sure.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
If Kyle Tucker is hurt, it's gonna hurt You're then
you're having to play whatever other guy say that. MAT's
My point is that in baseball we've seen the the
opposite Kyle Tucker is well, Jordan's the best player. Kyle
Tucker was the second best players was their best player
when he went down. Okay, so if you use if
you lose your best player in football, which is typically
the quarterback, quarterback, you're you're super toast. But you can

(08:49):
lose a number one wide receiver and still win a
Super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
It happens, yeah, or you're running.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
Back cast first lost their best wide receiver but still
had other pieces of the puzzle and then not trying
to move sports together here. But they were able to
still survive. So again it's not always the case. But
I was I was listening to people today kind of
running through you know, do you keep this running back?

Speaker 3 (09:11):
Is your third running back? Your fourth running backer?

Speaker 2 (09:13):
I was thinking, this is really matters, and I thought, well,
the Astros are a good example of you kind of
need as much depth as possible because you might be
able to hold on. You may be able to tread water,
and the Astros have been able to tread water. But
it all does matter if you're not has done for
the season, yeah, or Kyle Tucker's done for the season. Hey,
what is wait, he's coming back. Maybe he's coming back.

(09:36):
Why are we talking from sicily? I'll tell you where
it doesn't matter as much. Tell me into the roster.
NBA Boban Marianovitch on the on the squad the last
several years, like it too. You generally in the especially
come playoffs, you're down to like an eight man road,
Like if Amen Thompson and Jalen Green were done and

(09:59):
you were playing Cam Wentmore and Aaron Holiday major minutes.
I don't think people are selling rockets playoff tickets at
this point not saying those guys aren't going value. I'll
tell you what you won't be saying, then, rockets wine.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
That's very rude of you. There won't be a whole
lot of that after the game.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
That's not nice, not nice at all. All right, we
will say goodbye to a handful of Texans that apparently
have been cut, so says Aaron Wilson. We'll run right
off of Aaron Wilson's tweets. Next our time is twelve

here's what we'll do on the Matt Thomas Show. At
twelve nineteen. We'll have manager Joe was spot.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
In a few minutes, I'm going to announce the release players,
and then Ross will discuss how that will affect the team.
Does that seem fair? God? Sure?

Speaker 3 (11:50):
I have a look up.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
Who these people are.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
The Texans?

Speaker 2 (11:54):
Today? ROSSI release Mike Ford. Oh I actually like more
from Mike Ford. Okay, so uh yeah, all right, he's
a really fun pitcher. They waived Malik Fisher. Uh what
does he do? I don't know? Besides play football? Is

(12:16):
that the guy from the UFL? Yeah?

Speaker 6 (12:18):
No?

Speaker 2 (12:19):
Oh that oh yeah it is Malik Fisher, Yes, uh,
Deeter Isolin has been released.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
He's an offensive line yeah yeah, dta Islan, Yes.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
No, I can't believe that. Lot dita him so good
Man's hitting all these NFL teams on Peter now icelan Iceland.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
How do you spell that?

Speaker 2 (12:43):
That's gonna be uh e I S E L E
N about if any of these selections, these these cuts
today affect you and your how you're watching the team.
Let us know at seven one, three, seven eight, it's
been real.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
I really like him.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
I thought he would is a great offensive lineman and
really loved how he was just actually a lover of pets. Okay,
I got some more for you. Texans releasing Charlie Heck
mm hmm and for real. Yeah, oh man, that's the
draft pick didn't work out and they are releasing Max Tooley,

(13:21):
Max Julie. They're gonna bring him too, Lee, They're gonna
bring him back on the practice squad. Okay, great. Apparently
Charlie Heck had been battling, battling planner fasciatus all preseason.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
Get your planter fashion tightened up? What's going on here?

Speaker 2 (13:34):
Here we go? We got some more h the Texas
today releasing Sean Bowman. Mm hmm, Christian Braswell, Oh, Gary,
Gary Brightwell, Joshua Joshua Cephas. You're definitely making d J. Coleman.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
Oh, these are Jaguars move.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
Sorry, I was gonna say you're making these up. Sorry,
I was giving you Jaguars. You come on, Aaron, we
don't care about the Jaguars releasing players. Aaron gives you
cuts from every team he's giving us. He gives you
a thousand. Oh what Tim Boyle quarterbacks? Not Tim Boyle?

(14:18):
I know. Texans will also place Brandon Hill, safety on
injured reserve a significant knee injury that will require surgery,
ending his season.

Speaker 3 (14:29):
Maybe you're gonna be fine. Oh case Keenum.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
Texans releasing fullbacks Andrew Beck and Troy Hairston.

Speaker 3 (14:38):
Oh no fullback.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
Well, it could be Brevan Jordan Kate Stover basically okay
by keeping an extra running back um. Texans releasing defensive
end Ali Gay with plans to sign him to a
practice squad if he clears waivers. Okay. Texans releasing rookie
to defensive end Solomon Byrd, with plans to add him

(15:02):
to the practice squad. A great name he has, Okay,
put him on the practice squad, all right, Solomon Bud.
Robert Woods has been released. M Robert Woods. That's a shame.

Speaker 3 (15:19):
I think we all called that weeks ago, right, No, I.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
Don't know if he's been released or not. Don't help me, Matt.
I'm reading Aaron Wilson's tweet. Sorry, what well does he
say he's being released? Noah Brown has been released. Noah Brown,
Texan's legend. Noah Brown is out. And let's see what
else people are not happy about. Robert Woods. Oh, Ben

(15:45):
Scornick is out. No, they traded for him. Desmond King
is out? What Quinton's Quintesse?

Speaker 7 (15:53):
Right on?

Speaker 2 (15:54):
These are you making? I'm going right off of Aaron's
Twitter account? Okay for real this time? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (15:59):
For sure?

Speaker 2 (16:02):
They traded a seventh round pick for Ben Scorer or Runneck.
You know what, We're all happy because we can never
could pronounce iskaronics.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
He's godon, isn't It's coronic? Don't you think you know?

Speaker 2 (16:15):
I'm gonna I'm lay out here because you are battle
red Ross?

Speaker 3 (16:19):
How are these hitting you right now?

Speaker 2 (16:20):
I'm okay? So Robert Woods is staying I think so
over Noah Brown yes, but you know what things are fluid, Okay, Okay,
anything can change at any moment.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
Are they down to fifty three? I don't know.

Speaker 2 (16:36):
I've not seen. I'm only following Aaron Wilson on this. Okay,
you're doing a great job. Oh, here we go. They've
released rookie defensive lineman Marcus Harris, who played his college
football at Auburn. Unfortunate. I'm assuming these are all guys
that we saw in the final Praiseason game that really
nobody paid attention to. Okay, okay, And at this point,

(17:02):
keeping three quarterbacks, well you have to right, yeah, well
you can put two and then you can you can
you have to carry a third on the raw on
the fifty three man, if you want to use them,
you can't pull them up off the practice squad on
a week to week basis. So there you have it, lady,
you said, gentlemen, I know there's a lot of you
that are upset. Matter of fact, can we have time

(17:23):
to get one person that's gonna call in and say
how upset they are about the Texans picks? Are there cuts?
Is there one person right now that's upset with the
Texans cut? I don't think so. I believe there is okay,
because I mean it's dominating sports radio today. It is.
I mean, yeah, I think okay. I like to hear

(17:46):
talk about the here and the now, and here in
the now it's we're going to talk to the Astros
manager in about four minutes. You okay with them? Boil?
All right?

Speaker 3 (17:53):
Are you're really upset about Tim Boil?

Speaker 2 (17:55):
Aren't you? No? I don't care. Are you sure you're
supposed to Cary? You're better at Ross? That's fine, Tim
boyles In were cooked? If case keenums and were cooked. Yeah,
anybody not saying c J. Stroud the season is over,
you gotta you gotta bubble wrap him and protect him
with your life. I think Davis Mills could hold it
down for a couple of weeks. I don't think that

(18:15):
as much. You're not saying that was straight face, are you?
I mean, yeah, he could hold it down and like
just be replacement level and go oher and two and
then he comes back. No, what if it's a season
ending injury, well then yeah they're gonna lose. Kansas City
Chiefs lose Pat Mahomes. I don't think things are gonna
go so hot for them. Yep, welcome to the NFL.

(18:36):
Why why the quarterbacks get all this money they get hurt.
Are the most viable player, Yeah, in all the sport,
in the in all of sports, more so than a
number three hitter, more so than an ace pitcher.

Speaker 3 (18:49):
Your quarterback sends you on your way one way or
the other.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
Because I know everybody talks about, well, you had Trent
Dilfer and you had Brad Johnson. Name of the last
sucky quarterback that took a team deep Joe Flacco. Joe
Flacco in that Super Bowl year, I think through ten
or eleven touchdowns and zero interceptions. Yeah, but he's not
a great quarterback, but he was really good. Nick Foles
of the Phillies. The Phillies, Philadelphia, they're playing the Phillies.

(19:16):
Maybe he was their backup catcher as well. I don't know,
Philadelphia Eagles. I got you, all right, let's talk to
Joe as spot a X. It is the Atomics Show
at twelve twenty seven. Again, if you want to call
in and tell us how sad you are about the
Texans cuts and where they made their mistakes, let us
know at seven one, three, two, one, two, five, seven nine.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
And this is Sports Talk sement of your proud home

Speaker 3 (20:40):
Good afternoon. How are things.

Speaker 8 (20:43):
I'm doing well, Matt, how are you?

Speaker 3 (20:44):
I have no complaints?

Speaker 2 (20:45):
My man. Hey, uh, you're gonna and this is here
comes the most obvious statement of the day. You're probably
gonna need more than two runs a game to beat
a good team like the Philadelphia Fieldies.

Speaker 3 (20:53):
Would that be fair to say?

Speaker 6 (20:55):
Uh, you know what, We've been playing some really close games.
We've been facing some pretty good pitch, playing some you know,
it feels like playoff games, and you know, uh yeah,
you know it feels like two runs has hasn't been
enough in the last couple of games.

Speaker 2 (21:11):
Well, I'll say this, I love the competition because you're
taking on perennial playoff teams and it kind of gives
I think your guys a little of Hey, it was
fun getting into the top of the division, but guess what,
we have some teams in front of us that want
to take us down.

Speaker 3 (21:24):
I feel like that's been the stretch of the last
week or so.

Speaker 6 (21:27):
Yeah, and then we knew going into the stretch that
it was going to uh you know, it's going to
be that tap with challenge and you know, because of
everyone is you know, all these teams are in the
middle of the race, and you could feel, you could
just sense it, you know, all the way from managing
in the States, which the way teams are getting after it,

(21:48):
you know, just you know, the starting pitching that we've seen,
the kind of lining up pitching the base on their opponents.
So we've seen, I feel like we've seen the best
pitching from from every team. There's lots of up series
and you know, that's what it's all about, is you know,
we enter in September and it's that time is a
time of the year where you need to bring your

(22:09):
a game every single night.

Speaker 2 (22:11):
Speaking of that, part of the charm of this organization
during its championship unning you've been here for just about
all of it is the fact that defense has been
such an asset and the last week it's been a
little leaky unfortunately. What do you.

Speaker 3 (22:24):
Attribute that to.

Speaker 2 (22:25):
Is that a hey, pull a guy aside and say, hey,
I know you can do this. Let's treat every out
as important as the first one as a twenty seventh out,
or are you running into some situations where some guys
are maybe losing a little bit of that of that
intensity that has made this team one of the best
defensive squads in baseball the last less than eight years.

Speaker 6 (22:42):
Yeah, definitely not the last of contensity and focus. It's
just more, you know, we're in a very long stretch
and you know, things like that happen. You just don't
want them to happen this time of the year. But
teams go through, you know, a few games where there's
a lack of you know, concentration at times, and the
boy will find you and we won't. You know, giving teams,

(23:07):
giving good teams an extra out is not what you
want to do. Good teams take advantage of extra outs.
And you know, I tell the guys all the time,
it's like when team gives us extra outs, we take
advantage of those. So we've we've got to make sure
that we supere the ball, play some fundamental sound baseball
because when we do that, we're going to find ourselves.

Speaker 8 (23:27):
You know, in every game. And you know that's.

Speaker 6 (23:30):
That's a message that we we bring every single day.
So you pool guys to the side and you just
kind of go through some fundamental things that sum remind them.
But it's something that you know, it's not concerning, it's
just something that you just don't want it to happen
over and over again, for sure, Joe.

Speaker 2 (23:48):
I know you don't like playing first basement by committee,
but that things have just had to turn out that
way until somebody takes that job and pressures you never
to write that always write that name on.

Speaker 3 (23:58):
The on the lineup card.

Speaker 2 (24:00):
How are you figuring out these days about who's playing
there and what important particular day?

Speaker 6 (24:05):
You know what we kind of look, you know, matchups,
you know who's pitching for them that day. You know
I'm taking consideration and who's pitching for me that day?
Grand ball pitcher, fly ball pitcher. You know, it has
been uh kind of a fluid, you know, movement of
how to put that that that piece together there. You know,

(24:28):
I feel like we are getting some some decent up bats,
you know, but that's just the way we that's where.

Speaker 8 (24:34):
We at right now, and that's just the way we're
going to.

Speaker 6 (24:37):
Have to navigate the last four or five weeks of
the season. And you know, you know, my my job
is just continue to drive that message to all those guys.

Speaker 8 (24:46):
Just be ready. You're playing today, you know you're playing tomorrow.
Stay ready on.

Speaker 6 (24:51):
The bench because if I pinch it for these guys
you're gonna go in there for defense. It's you know,
it's uh, it's it's the everyday communication and just trying
to keep trying to keep everyone involved and trying to
navigate that you know, Uh on Charter Waters, we have
never been in this position before, and I just got
to continue to do what's past.

Speaker 8 (25:09):
For the team.

Speaker 4 (25:11):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (25:11):
Bregman and Alvarez both in the lineup yesterday. How are
they feeling, the.

Speaker 8 (25:15):
Feeling what the feeling good?

Speaker 6 (25:17):
They're back in there tonight, so you know, it's it's
monitoring Braggy's elbow, how he feels, you know, your Dan's
neck he felt he said they felt pretty good yesterday,
especially after he played out fields. So you know, we
it's all hands on.

Speaker 8 (25:34):
Deck right now, Matt. You know, we we got to
all be ready to.

Speaker 6 (25:36):
Go and and I'll try to give him a blow
the best way I can.

Speaker 8 (25:41):
But right now, it's, uh, it's grinding time.

Speaker 6 (25:43):
This is this is when you know, champions separates him
sail from from the rest of the pack and we
need to start, you know, playing championship baseball for the
next four or five weeks.

Speaker 2 (25:53):
Yeah, it's interesting because you know the start of the
season obviously didn't go the way that you wanted, would you.
I imagine you'd be handling this a lot differently if it
were like in years past, where you're ten games ahead
in the American League West and you can kind of
give some guys days off.

Speaker 8 (26:10):
But you know, we're not.

Speaker 6 (26:11):
We're not in that position. You know, I have given uh,
you know, our two way a few days off.

Speaker 8 (26:17):
You in this stretch, I've.

Speaker 6 (26:18):
Given you know, break he has those three days off.

Speaker 8 (26:20):
You know at the elbow. Jeremy got a day off
the other day.

Speaker 6 (26:23):
Jodan had a couple of off days here. So you know,
that's the best you can do doing this stretch, you know,
you know, regulating kind of the workload that we do
pre game quality over quantity, you know, making sure the
guys just you know, don't go crazy in the cage
ticking some a ton of swings. You know, you want
to stay sharp, but you want to be smart and

(26:44):
make sure that you stay healthy and be able to recover.
So you know, we're not in the in the position
that we've been in years past, but we find ourselves entering,
you know, going into the last thirty games of the
season in first place.

Speaker 8 (26:55):
So we can't forget about that.

Speaker 6 (26:56):
And we just got to remind ourselves that we you know,
we're in a really good spot. We just gotta we
just gotta keep fighting through this.

Speaker 8 (27:03):
And and and just play good baseball.

Speaker 2 (27:04):
Are you literally walking in the clubhouse every day or
texting bragg say, how's the elbow feeling? Can you d age?

Speaker 3 (27:10):
Can you play third?

Speaker 2 (27:11):
I know you even had a little bit of him
playing some first and some workout. Kind of the kind
of thing is Is it a day to day with
him right now? Do you think it'll be that way
the rest of the year.

Speaker 6 (27:20):
Yes, it's text messages, you know, in the morning, competitions
that night, you know, after he does there you see
you after hitting in the cage. Yeah, it's it's it's
it is every I just like to make sure it's
not flurrying up after he's workout or you know, he's

(27:44):
hitting the cage after our ground balls. Yeah, and he's
took me like that for the next four or five weeks.

Speaker 2 (27:50):
Busy with Joe A spotted here on Sports Talk seven
AI Joe A friend of the show, Brian McTaggart uh
putting reporting out a few minutes ago that you are
close to signing Jason Hayward from the Dodgers. I don't
know if you want to confirm that or not, but the
question is how do you feel about your outfield situation
if indeed this is going to be something you guys
are gonna be doing here in the next few days
or a few minutes.

Speaker 6 (28:10):
Yeah, well, you know, yeah, I'm not going to comment
on any any transaction, any rumors, but you know, right
now outfielders, Gambo has come in and done a really
nice job giving you some really good abs the bond
playing all over the field. You know, we can't you know,
got to highlight that play that he made in Baltimore
running into the wall. That was huge play up. You know,

(28:31):
that play in the outfield probably join up for Feedo's
playing right field. Probably the best two plays that we've
had in the outfield this season that come to mind
right now. So it's just going to continue to move
guys around, trying to keep you know, the best bats
in there against certain matchups. And I feel pretty good
about their defense.

Speaker 8 (28:49):
And you know, it's it's like first base.

Speaker 6 (28:52):
We're going to continue to platoon some of these guys
trying to get him in the spot where they can
have some success and and keep going.

Speaker 7 (29:00):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (29:00):
You would have normally used Ryan tonight if in the
same situation, but obviously he is still on the injured list.
First of all, can you update us on how he's feeling.
And secondly, I would think at this time of year,
especially with the fact that you was Josh and back
to back games, that having a Hector Naris with you
with a bray you that have both learn learned how
to close games in the past is going to be
probably a huge part of your next two days. It

(29:21):
seems like one hundred percent.

Speaker 6 (29:23):
You know, star Winarius. I think he's experienced and the
fact that he's done it fishing big games for us.
He's the you know, he's that sweet army uh, you know, flexible,
you could plug it in any inning against any you know,
traffic or no traffic.

Speaker 8 (29:42):
He's going to get you some big out.

Speaker 6 (29:43):
So he's going to play a big role, you know
in the upcoming weeks. You know, a Braille like you
mentioned a Braille and Hater and Pressley. He felt what
he feels good.

Speaker 8 (29:51):
He threw a live VP yesterday.

Speaker 6 (29:52):
He walked to a new day. He says he feels fine.
So we're going to monitor him for the next couple
of hours and see if he'd be ready to go
on Thursday, say or not. But so far everything looks
really good.

Speaker 2 (30:03):
And then of course the obligatory Kyle Tucker updated and
not only just health wise, what has it been like
keeping an eye on him from a personal standpoint? Has
he been frustrated? Have you been trying to keep it
try to keep his spirits up? Also, not just health
wise but personally.

Speaker 8 (30:20):
Matt sorry you caught up there.

Speaker 6 (30:21):
Who was your at, Kyle Tucker?

Speaker 3 (30:22):
Sorry, Kyle Tucker?

Speaker 6 (30:23):
Yeah, yeah, so Tuck. You know, he's been sending us
videos every day about his work, and he's actually running
on the field in the outfield doing sprints.

Speaker 8 (30:36):
I can call him sprints now because he actually, you know,
he's getting to fifty sixty percent mats effort, So.

Speaker 6 (30:42):
He's actually looking really, really good. I think in the
next couple of days now, when we go home over
the weekend, we'll see him and see if we could
get on the basis. But I feel pretty good about
the work he's doing, you know, And I mean he
wants to be on the field so bad. I I
you know, when we hex one another.

Speaker 8 (31:01):
We have our conversations.

Speaker 6 (31:02):
He you know, he feels how you know, that his
teammates need him, how the CD wants him on the steeld.
Being out for so long, it's something that he hasn't
want to do. But he's trying to get back on.

Speaker 5 (31:12):
The steeld, you know.

Speaker 6 (31:14):
And I expect him to, you know, early September to
be with us and you know, on in the lineup.
So you know, I'm just hopeful and I keep praying
that it's it's soon because we can really use Southatuck
and Caroline up.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
Last thing for you, Skip, you got roster expansion next week.

Speaker 3 (31:33):
Uh would be labored, I guess or thereabouts.

Speaker 8 (31:36):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (31:36):
I'm going to presume Salazar has got to be a
serious candidate, maybe another reliever. And it sounds like you've
got two guys Montero and Frankly Whitley that are pitching
lights out right now for the Space Cowboys.

Speaker 6 (31:48):
Yeah, during those names, Uh in Bullpen are on the consideration.
They're throwing the bowl really really well. You know, Montero
has made some adjustments and you know the reports that
they are getting our super positive and Willy has been
throwing the heck out of the ball. So he's also
someone that we are we're considering h you know, like

(32:10):
you mentioned Stallas are and and you know, all the
few put position players are also in consideration. We'll sit
we'll sit.

Speaker 8 (32:16):
Down when we get back home.

Speaker 6 (32:18):
And we look at our roster and we look at
what's what's next for us, what September looks like, and
and then well we'll make those decisions.

Speaker 2 (32:24):
And very last, you got JV going uh pitch count
up for speculation? Do you kind of want to keep
him around seventy five for a while. He's going to
know his body as better as better anybody else. So
are your trainers? What what is your thinking about where
he is pitch count wise? At least maybe for at
least the next couple of starts.

Speaker 6 (32:43):
Yeah, I think we could go, you know, higher than
seventy seventy five. I think we could start, you know,
looking at eighty eighty five. And again it's just depending
how we feel, you know, how much you know, how
efficient he could be early the game. But I think
physically he can he can he can work you know,
through eighty eighty five pitches. He's last bullpen.

Speaker 8 (33:04):
He looked really good he feels good.

Speaker 6 (33:06):
So you know, if someone who we want on the
mound today.

Speaker 8 (33:11):
It's it's justin Berlanda. We need him to step up
and give us some some quality and.

Speaker 2 (33:15):
Great stuff is always skipped. Good luck tonight against Phildelphia.
Will talk again next week. We really appreciate its always,
thank you got it. That's Joe A. Spot A Astro's
manager with us here on Sports Talk seven Hoey time
is twelve forty four. If you want to digest and
to comment on anything that he had to say. Seven one.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
Did he say sprint for Kyle Tucker? I like it.

Speaker 2 (33:35):
I like sprint.

Speaker 3 (33:36):
That's good, better than a jog, better than a hop
and a skip.

Speaker 2 (33:40):
Yes, sprinting that's good. And sending videos every day. I've
seen you videos too over the years. Seven think you've
sent me one? I can now. I'm good.

Speaker 3 (33:53):
Are you sure?

Speaker 2 (33:54):
Yeah? They're good, clean the lins. I'm very well aware
of that. I double on triple checks. I don't get
the wrath of you. See I helped you out by
shaming you for something that was Yeah, you know your
quality of your.

Speaker 3 (34:08):
Pictures are better.

Speaker 2 (34:08):
You're welcome, yeah, yeah, just making me feel bad and
shaming me make you feel you do you did mission accomplished?
Did you feel bad? I don't help every bit of
it seven one three two one two five seven outy
seven one three two one two five seven ninty. If
you want to see better, live better, and save bigger,
you can do all that with Berkeley I Center because
they're going to give you one Lasik laser vision correction.

(34:29):
It's going to give you just amazing vision. Secondly, they're
going to give you sixteen one hundred dollars in savings

And third, when you get Lasik from Berkeley Center, they're
going to give you a free pair of designer sunglasses.
So again, the savings, the sight, and the glasses all

com for Berkeley Center.

Speaker 9 (35:03):
Coach bum Phillips said, you fail all the time, but
you aren't a failure until you start blaming someone else
or now pitch for the A's.

Speaker 2 (35:14):
Hey, this is Mike Fires.

Speaker 7 (35:15):
Sometimes I'm getting fired up for more Houston sports talk.

Speaker 1 (35:19):
Back to Matt Thomas on Sports Talk seven ninety baseball
bits here, can.

Speaker 3 (35:26):
We please bury that one?

Speaker 2 (35:29):
He hasn't pitched for the A's since I don't know,
Ross you you got a haircut since then? And that
actually might be accurate. This is Mike fires and I'm
fired up your question. The got rid of the Royce
White one? That was good? That was oh man, the
Royce White is a classic. It's not a classic at all.

Speaker 3 (35:50):
You know, he's running. Isn't he running for senate or
something like that? I believe isn't Minnesota the state?

Speaker 2 (35:55):
Yeah? Who to thunk God? Gets kicked out of Rockets,
gets kicked out of the Canadian Basketball League, and now
he's going to run for senator? Oh wow, Wikipedia page
first line. Royce Alexander White is an American conspiracy theorist,
political candidate, and former collegiate and professional basketball player. Hmm

(36:18):
hashtag be well in Minnesota, mister basketball two thousand and nine.
He was such a fraud. I mean, there are some
frauds right now. When he wanted to be he was
a huge fraud. Darryl Morey did everything and then some
to bend over backwards to accommodate him, and you know
he can blame you can blame Fred Hoiberg.

Speaker 3 (36:36):
Yeah, he's the one that sold him. It was Yeah,
he was good.

Speaker 2 (36:38):
You should come great, he flies on planes. He'll be fine.
Just dope him up and you know, get him a
couple of relaxers would be good to go. He's Oh
what does arrears mean? Over one hundred thousand and arrears
on child support? I mean back child support? I don't know.

Speaker 3 (36:56):
Well, makes you want to vote for him on?

Speaker 2 (36:57):
I'm wishing him the best I got. Yeah, imagine if
you're if you're going against him, you've got a little
bit of ammunition, do you not? I guess? So hmm.
All right, and that's your polo club day for the day.
Here on the Sports Talk seven ninety we're home of
your no politics. So all right, uh, what else going on?
We had astros last night. We've got the Texans cutting

(37:17):
their roster down to fifty three.

Speaker 3 (37:20):
We have rip Mike Ford. All right, Well he's not dead.

Speaker 2 (37:24):
I mean's Noah Brown surprise you at all? Not really,
I mean a little bit, I guess. But just a guy,
just a guy, right, He's he's kind of just a guy.
I mean, he got didn't he have a couple like
almost two hundred yard days. I mean it this well, yeah,
but that was because it was next man up, and

(37:46):
I give him credit for doing that. Yeah, but maybe
John Matchi did enough in the last couple of weeks
to secure his Jeff thinks.

Speaker 3 (37:53):
So clearly it seems like and frankly.

Speaker 2 (37:57):
Let's let's be a little honest here, there's gonna be
some politics because that's a Casio selection. Yeah, but Casario
also traded for Ben score Warrinick and then they feel
confident in the way that you pronounce that. No, okay, good,
zero percent, okay good. Yeah, that cost him a draft pick,
but again six seven front no still scornic, skornic, skoronic.

(38:22):
Don't worry, You're not have to say Karonic, Ben's kronic.
I'm going with that, Skoronic. That's exactly what it is, Okay,
And I'm glad you got it right. So now I'm
going to just steal it off of you. Ben's kronic.
You know, you trade that's a failure. You trade a
seventh round pick for somebody and then you cut them seven.
I mean, I guess the better question would be what
percentage of seventh round picks make teams. Would you say

(38:43):
that with the fifteen percent category somewhere around there? Yeah,
but it's not zero, that's true, and you do use
them as trade chips. Ultimately you throw them in is
to move up four or five spots into fifth or
angy throw seventh thrown. Who's to say. I'm just I'm
the firm belief in this particular situation that if the
Texans are healthy, they're going to win the ANFC South.

(39:07):
I like Anthony Richardson, I don't love him. I think C. J.
Strout is a far superior athlete. A athlete, but well,
I mean, you know what I'm saying, a quarterback, because
Richardson might be one of the best athletes on the
planet of two things. One, he was always a better
thrower in college. And secondly, he said he stood upright
for sixteen games last year, fifteen games last year, whereas

(39:29):
it was down Yeah in a small yeah, but I
think his received Richardson runs more so. Uh, the Colt
running game is much better. Pittman can be every bit
as anything of the three Texans receivers. Don't you think
Pittman is Michael Pittman's good got a first contract.

Speaker 3 (39:48):
Feeling good about him.

Speaker 2 (39:49):
Yeah, well, I think the team that's going to challenge,
As I said before, did that make this on a
gut feeling that none of the three teams it's gonna
it's gonna take at least eleven to win the Vision.
I say, no one's going to get to eleven because
you could beat each other. Remember it was one of
your I thought it was one of your to tell
the truths. Yeah that you didn't believers. Yeah, I don't know.
I can't keep track of all your takes. Well, I'll

(40:11):
just take care of the ones noon to three. Very
happy with those gun of hot takes. Oh stop, that's ridiculous.
We have got feelings coming up in the next segment,
by the way, good you know what. I got one
concerning what the colts. Oh you four tease this. I'm
kind of proud of you. I got to make some statements.

(40:33):
You've been thinking about this for a long time or
just in the last hour. You brought it up and
it reinvigorated me. Mmm, okay, all right, gut feelings. So
those of you knew the show, you simply calling with
your sports predictions. If you've ever gotten anything right in
the past, you call him brack about them. If you've
gotten them wrong, you don't call or that, you just
call with some fresh new ones. If you're Brad in

(40:54):
Miami or Brad in Spring Branch, we keep track of
yours and typically make fun of them. And if Brad
does call in, which he's welcome to do so, anybody
that gets in front of him or calls will always
go in front. We will take Brad absolutely last if
he wants to call in. So your opportunity to call
in with your gut feelings are just moments away here

(41:14):
on Sports Talk seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven ninety seven one three two one two
five seven ninety If you want to follow us on Twitter,
it's at sports Empt, at sports RV, and at Connor
d McGovern. The Shell Federal Credit Union wants you to
are you ready for this? Win some money? You can

(41:35):
still do so in the next couple of days by
going to Shell FC use Financial Wellness Center, completing the
quick and easy financial education material and that'll enter you
to win one of two five one hundred dollars prizes
this month. Somebody this month is also going to win
ten thousand dollars by simply using your Shell FCU debit
card if you have one already, keep using it for
things like restaurants in fast food spots and grocery stores

(41:58):
or gas stations. Because if you own a Shell FCU card,
for every twenty debit charges you use, you're gonna get
an entry to win ten thousand dollars. Three people this
month are gonna share eleven thousand dollars. It might as
well be from you from SHELLFCU dot org. That's the
place you get all to complete details. You can also

(42:18):
call them at seven one three eight four four eleven hundred.
It's seven one three eight four four eleven hundred to
win your share of eleven thousand.

Speaker 3 (42:25):
Dollars from the Shell Federal Credit Union.

Speaker 2 (42:30):
Lunchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show. Listen up the segment.

Speaker 6 (42:37):
So appealersn't that Thomas Yo.

Speaker 2 (42:40):
They got a good dealer.

Speaker 10 (42:42):
This is their gut feeling on the Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 2 (42:46):
All right, listen to me. It is time for you
to make your predictions. What do you got today? Seven
one three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven ninety You call them
with your gut feelings. If you get them right, you
can called us back a few weeks later and brag
on him. If you get them wrong again, no need
to call back. But part of the fun is making
these predictions and getting them right and then telling us

(43:07):
So it's it's a classic case.

Speaker 3 (43:09):
So I told you so?

Speaker 2 (43:10):
Okay, So Ross, what do we tell the audience last weekend?
How did we do? You had John Metchi making the
Houston Texans team. All right, that's a win. I believe
it should be. Okay, yeah, Damon Pierce making the team.
I mean that those are easy. Metchi was a little
more out there, but not much. Okay, Uh, Astros win

(43:33):
American League West by at least five games.

Speaker 3 (43:36):
Three and a half right now, still feel good.

Speaker 2 (43:39):
Should be a lot larger, frankly, with all the games
I mean, think about the Astros. The three losses so
far in this road trip have all been winnable. Had
lead ball games. Yeah, that's it. And also, you can't
say should be larger because if the if the Mariners
were any good and in which they're not, it'd be
a lot closer. That's true. But they're terrible, that's true.

(44:02):
Connor McGovern had Cam Akers making the team. Yeah, that's
gonna be a really good one. The question is going
to be, who is this? I got a one for you.
I'll save it for the gut feelings. Okay, go ahead.
Robert Wood's getting cut? What I didn't even remember writing that.
Good job, Connor. If Connor feels like our Texans insider,
yeah he is, well, he hasn't. He hasn't me cut yet.
Oh wait, I thought you said he hadn't. That's right, nevermind.

(44:24):
Oh you're sorry you missed that one. You're right, I'm sorry.
You know what I've been. I've been hurt by the
disinformation campaign from Matt Thomas, who initially said that he
was cutting. I miss Noah Brown's the first thing you
hear is what you remember the most, Matt, first and last.
I didn't hear a word you said exactly, all right,
So I forgot. I'm sorry. Robert Woods has nappit cut.
It was in my head because of Matt. I blame him.

(44:46):
And he had Xavier Hutchison making the team. Do we
haven't confirmed, one way or other. He has not been cut.
All right, So there's still two hours left. So I had.

Speaker 3 (45:00):
Hunter Brown with a no hitter by the end of
next year.

Speaker 2 (45:02):
That's in play. You've been telling the whole world by that.
By the way, that's not true. You've told all Las Vegas.
We're it's a sports book. He's walking around high. I'm
ross to do a radio show in Houston. I think
Hunter Brown's gonna throw a no hitter. You're a liar
and a fraud. That seems really kind of a weird
thing to introduce yourself with, but that's to each his own. Yeah,
it's my opener with the Ladies's gonna throw that what

(45:22):
it is? Yeah, you know what, you should have walked
around and said I love Cacucci. That'd been a lot easier.
I think that would have been probably a bad idea.
I could have gotten arrested, all right, But that's okay,
And I guess that's all I wrote down.

Speaker 3 (45:33):
I don't guess. I didn't say anything else.

Speaker 2 (45:35):
And then we did our Grand Slam draft and nobody's
hit a Grand Slam.

Speaker 3 (45:38):
So ooh.

Speaker 2 (45:40):
By the way, the Texans are released veteran guard Chris Reid.

Speaker 3 (45:44):
Hmmm, unbelievable stuff.

Speaker 2 (45:46):
I really had high hopes for what he could provide
it as far as depth on the offensive leak too.
I was a huge Chris Reid guy. Yeah, all right,
now it's time for gut feelings, and you've got one
about the Indianapolis Colts. What's say you, my friend? I
don't even know exactly how to phrase this, but this
this cult hype. You're banking on a rookie who played

(46:11):
two games last year, and then the backups are Joe
Flacco and Sam Ellinger. I mean, yeah, they've got some
good pieces over there to the Indianapolis Colts, but I
just don't get why they're this hot pick to to
to overtake the Texans, who are the reigning AFC South champions,
in my opinion, got better on the offseason.

Speaker 3 (46:30):
So I mean, do I say disappointment? Do I say
under the eight and a half win total?

Speaker 2 (46:33):
Do I say if I say they won't win the
AFC South?

Speaker 3 (46:37):
How do I phrase this? I'm gonna go with I
would say.

Speaker 2 (46:40):
If you really want to, if you will believe the
Texans cults are overhyped, then you have to give us
a win total. They're win totals eight, but people are
acting like they're gonna win fifteen games eight and a half.
I'm sorry, Okay, I'll just go under eight and a half.

Speaker 3 (46:54):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (46:54):
Okay, I'm saying they will not win the AFC South
and under under eight and a half wins for the Colts,
all right.

Speaker 3 (47:01):
I got one friend the Texans.

Speaker 2 (47:03):
The second running back to touch the football on a
carry will be Damian Pierce. I know the cam Akers
is getting a lot of run because he performed really
well and Damian Pierce did not. And Damian Pierce sat
out of the game against the Rams and camp Akers
did not. I still think at the end of the
day that Damian Pierce will be given every opportunity to
be the second running back, and he will get the second.

(47:26):
He'll be the second running back to carry the football.
What happened to him? What happened? It seems like to me,
and again not that we're out there staring at the practices,
but he's just not reading his progressions very well, his
lanes and cuts.

Speaker 3 (47:39):
Yep, yep. So I got that.

Speaker 2 (47:44):
Astros got fourth Kansas City starting on Thursday. Astros start
Labor Day, which is next Monday. Back to I've up
in the division. I have something the opposite. I have

(48:06):
something the negative that popped in my head, but it's true.
Please say it. Who's on the hill tonight for the
Houston Astros Justin James Verlander, who's having the worst home
run rate of his career. Justin Ambercrombie Verlander, who is
going up against a Phillies lineup that mashes Justin Craig

(48:27):
Verlander at least two home runs for the Phillies today.
Do you hear that, folks, that's how much you hate
your local team. I love the Astros. He said they
weren't gonna make the playoffs. Hold on, they're ten games back.
Every picture they're throwing out Blair Henley and Jake bloss.

Speaker 3 (48:45):
And why I say that every picture was hurt?

Speaker 2 (48:47):
You said, I'm I'm not quite there, but I understand
where you're coming from. You said that I wasn't there.
Don't make me pull it. Don't make me pull the audio.
You couldn't pull if you wanted to. The equipment here
is so terrible you couldn't pull it. You know I can't.
Oh no, you can't. I dare you to go to bed. Yeah,
I really want you to go do it. Okay, I
cannot wait for you to find It'll take you months.
We'll be in the twenty twenty eighth season. By the
time you find it all right, Pally, I might have

(49:11):
said that quite there, but I wasn't there. You know what. Listen,
you know, as you do, you think about things and
you think, you know what. You don't want to make
that kind of acidine take on a radio show, so
you don't do it when they're ten games back. I
didn't give up. Don't ever give up. It's not necessarily
giving up as a gut feeling. Yeah, and your gut
feeling is wrong. I had a bad gut feeling. Gut
feelings are fluid, man, your guts right now? One week
you're feeling like you win in the World Series and

(49:33):
then they lose I don't know, four out of six,
and your gut feeling isn't they they're gonna win the
World Series? Yeah, it's an up and down situation. Yeah,
it's fluid. You're just always trying to search for this
gotcha moment that's not there. I'm then the anti gotcha
because I change my opinion all the time. Why would
I do that to you? You know why? All right?

Speaker 3 (49:52):
So you got the Astros doing what now?

Speaker 2 (49:54):
Oh? You got Verliner giving up two home runs today.
I'm sorry for your sake. You better not happen, because
if it does, I will give you credit on Twitter tonight.

Speaker 3 (50:06):
Oh great, just with your legions of bots.

Speaker 2 (50:09):
Just what you want is what you want? Hey, congratulations
to Sports RV for announcing that the Justin vernonners can
give up two home thanks. He'll never get on the
show now. Be stuck with trying to get scraps like Ben. Oh, hey,
come on, leave him alone? He's fine. Will you leave?
Will you leave?

Speaker 3 (50:28):
Two things?

Speaker 2 (50:28):
You need to leave alone. You need to Ben Verlander alone,
and you need to leave Justin's white belt alone.

Speaker 3 (50:33):
I have not brought up his white belt in weeks.
That's some kind of record.

Speaker 2 (50:38):
And if Ben wants to come on the show, is
more than welcome to. Really, you know you would say no, no,
I would no. I can't even know. I'm just teasing
because I can former Detroit Tiger's draft pick Ben.

Speaker 3 (50:48):
That's true, That is true.

Speaker 2 (50:50):
All right?

Speaker 3 (50:50):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (50:53):
If you have any gut feelings seven one three two
one two five seven Ony Connor, what is in your
gut this week?

Speaker 11 (50:59):
I'll which you said about Damian Pierce. I think he's
the running back too. I just agreed with Stan this
morning about k Akers. I'm a whole true on DP
being number two running back?

Speaker 2 (51:08):
Is that what the kids call him? DP? Yeah?

Speaker 11 (51:09):
All right, so the cool kids say yeah, and the
Astros they'll lose tonight and they'll win. So the loose
set win tomorrow, so they'll lose the series. But then
we'll split the series with the Royals. So what do
you have this team at the end by next Monday?
I have saw them five games in front of the division.

(51:31):
Right now, they're at three and a half. They're three
and three. Bye bye this game Natty Reds series on Monday.

Speaker 2 (51:40):
Okay, three and three, that wouldn't be terrible. It'd be
about five hundred against everybody in this fourteen game stretch.
And again I don't necessarily care about wins and losses,
although wins obviously are the most important thing, but it's
about how much distance you continue to maintain against the Mariners.
The Mariners did beat the Tampa Bay Rays yesterday. They
did defeat the Giant into their day in a day

(52:00):
off that the Astros did not have, So they have
gained it. They have gained a game and a half
in just the last four or five days, all right
seven one three two one two five seven ninety. If
you have anything in your gut, let your voice be
heard now or forever hold your gut seven one three
two one two five seven ninety. If you want to again,
send us your gut feelings here on a Tuesday. It's

(52:20):

right in the past, or predict the future of sports

in the forecast for the next ten days. There is

(52:41):

It happens all the time, unfortunately, and that's why you've
got to get a standby generator from Quality Home Products

because of winds and rain and lightning and thunder, your
power is going to stay on with a generator from

Speaker 1 (53:35):
Matt Thomas continues on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 12 (53:40):
Wasn't that Thomas?

Speaker 8 (53:41):
Yo?

Speaker 5 (53:42):
They got a good.

Speaker 1 (53:43):
Dealing lunchtimers Gut feelings continue now on the Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 2 (53:51):
A couple of shoutouts, one to Peyton Thomas who got
his senior ring measure today at Fighting Texas and m University.

Speaker 3 (54:00):
Which finger did he get measure for?

Speaker 2 (54:02):
You're off by one on both hands. That's what I get.
I hit my face on the microphone, so sorry for that.
I'm new here. It's my first day.

Speaker 3 (54:16):
So the boys got his senior ring measured. Awesome. Congratulations
to Peyton. Yeah, he's excited.

Speaker 2 (54:21):
And very excited. The first time I really hung out
with him since he was like an almost an infant,
was on the Vegas trip, and I came away very impressed.

Speaker 3 (54:29):
He's a nice kid. I don't know how you did it?
What do you mean how I did it?

Speaker 2 (54:32):
But all of your I mean, maybe it's all credit
to Kim, but all her children seem pretty cool and
well adjusted. I don't understand what do you mean well adjusted?
I didn't adjust them from what not? Despair dealing with
you like I'm saying I've given you a compliment. It
was more towards sat hilarious, which smart. He's knowledgeable about everything.

(54:56):
He's awesome, man him the best. He is a he
is a he's a history major and he likes history
of everything. So good for him, happy for him, and
I may have to take a day off to go
see his ring dunking. Is he gonna do it? Uh?
Dr Pepper don't know. He doesn't drink. He doesn't drink,
so I don't know what he's gonna do on that.
I don't know what the rule if you're an aggie,

(55:16):
what is the role that if you don't drink. I
don't think you should be forced to drink beer. I
don't know, I mean imagine it's happened. Yeah, there's been teetotalers.
That's right, all right. Seven one three also rip to
Sid Vicious, the former WWE w c W wrestler sixty
three with the punk rocker. There probably is. I think
there's probably multiple Sid viciouses, but this one was passed

(55:39):
away after a battle with cancer at the age of
sixty three. Scary mofo. We've lost We've lost a lot
of great wrestlers. Sure, Kevin Sullivan was the guy who
was scared of too all the time. I was like, yeah,
Sid Vicious of the sex Pistols. He died in nineteen
seventy nine. This is a different one. Okay, there's multiple
Sid viciouses. Apparently sid visiouses. Uh. At Chris Legends sixteen,

(56:00):
Dana Brown will give a positive update on Kyle Tucker,
but will stay cautious and save him till like October.
Hashtag gut feelings. That's not that would actually be a
hit of my gut feelings of twenty five. Plat appear.
It's it's nothing. I want that to happen. Nobody wants
to hear that. But he's sprinting. Yeah, he's sprinting. But
then he said fifty to sixty percent? Yeah, is can
you even sprint fifty to sixty percent? Think so maybe?

Speaker 3 (56:22):
And you're running the four hundred meters, well, okay, put
it this way.

Speaker 2 (56:26):
If you're if you're running ninety feet to first base
and you are sprinting, yeah, you're one hundred percent. You're
going one hundred percent until you tip the fifty foot
line and you're slowing down. Well, unless you're trying to
leg it out and you stay hunted the whole time.
One huntski. Okay, that was a not a soft answer,

(56:47):
but it got me really excited for a little bit,
and then it was like, oh, soft pedaled a little bit.
Look just a little bit. Let's go to Alex and
conrall at one twenty one. Alex, what is in your gut?
My man?

Speaker 12 (57:00):
Guys, So, my gut feeling is that the Orioles are
going to overtake the Yankees and the n East, and
then the Yankees are gonna lose in the wild Card
Series versus the Royals.

Speaker 6 (57:12):
And that's that's where I'm feeling on that.

Speaker 12 (57:15):
And I also have a feeling we're gonna see the
Guardians again. Yeah, obviously we're gonna see the Guardians again.
And I man, I don't I don't know who comes
out of Orioles or Royals, but that's that's gonna be
ahead of the cruise.

Speaker 2 (57:27):
Have a good one, all right. So he has the
Yankees down in the first round of the playoffs, the
wild card round. They are two games ahead of the
Orioles as of this moment. Is Aaron Judge gonna break
any more home run records? It seems like it. And
the thing is this year he's hitting like three point thirty.
He's having an all time season. How do he and
Wan Subtle being the lineup every day and they don't

(57:48):
win that fair? How do they not win one hundred
and twenty games? And Garrett calls in their mound? Yeah,
I think the rest of their lineup is is a
bit lacking. I mean, depending on age. How's Carlos Stanton
doing this year? I know he's sitting in a lot
of home runs? Yeah, is with the ops? Yeah, he
hasn't been great the last couple of years. Ill look
that up.

Speaker 3 (58:06):
But Aaron Judge, go ahead.

Speaker 2 (58:09):
He's got fifty one home runs, slugging, he's got one
hundred and twenty two RBI RSBI. No no, no, no, no,
no no no, no, no no. I just say that to
make you good. You're you're accomplishing the defeats plug in
seven thirty two. So let me guess his ops has
got to be eleven fifty eleven ninety seven. Oh, that

(58:31):
is insane, That is ruthian. You know what, We already
know who the MVPs of each league are. We've known
it basically since what mid April Shoho Tani National League,
Aaron Judge American and Carlo Stanton's seven eighty nine oh
ps ops plus one sixteen twenty three homers in two
forty one. Can they get cold for a series? In baseball?

(58:52):
You absolutely can. One hundred and seven walks for Aaron Judge,
that's cray third three. How many strikeouts one hundred and
thirty six a lot?

Speaker 3 (59:03):
Well, there's so many plant appearances.

Speaker 2 (59:05):
I mean, but you're still you're hitting three thirty three
and slugging op has almost twelve hundred. I don't care
how many times do you strike out? He's the most
feared hitter in the America League right now. More so
than you're on an Alberta he's been intentionally walked sixteen times.

Speaker 3 (59:17):
Crazy.

Speaker 2 (59:18):
Let's go to Nathan and seabrook. Nathan, what's in your
gut this week? Hey, fellas, how you doing good?

Speaker 13 (59:24):
I'm gonna change directions a little bit and go with
some college football. Sure, So, I know the over under
for the game and M Notre Dame game is forty
six and a half. I think it's gonna go under.
It think A and M is gonna win twenty eight
to ten. I don't know if you guys saw the yesterday,
the depth chart for Notre Dame came out and they

(59:45):
have I think a combined total of six career starts.
And that's gonna be the first game. Is that Kyle Field.
It's gonna be about ninety two degrees with you know,
some heat index. It's gonna be a little warm for
those fellas that have been playing football Indiana. So I
think they're gonna be overwhelmed, and I think that under
is gonna stay. I think the minus three is, you know,

(01:00:08):
really insignificant because A and M is gonna win probably
about twenty eight to ten is what I what I expect.

Speaker 2 (01:00:13):
You have A and M winning twenty eight to ten. Yes, sir,
all right, Zach, what class are you of mask, I'm
no class. I'm just a huge fan. I've been a
fan really even years old. Yes, sir, So what did
did you want to go to college? You just said,
I mean and just be an Aggie fan. I went
to the Air Force.

Speaker 13 (01:00:33):
Isn't the Air Force for twenty twenty years?

Speaker 7 (01:00:35):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:00:35):
Nice? Very nice?

Speaker 13 (01:00:36):
Yeah, I was a twelfth Man Foundation member for eight
of those twenty years, and every year I've been to
at least one or two games.

Speaker 2 (01:00:44):
That's good, that's dire. My son got his ticket yesterday.
He's gonna be in the second deck this week. I'll
be there too, all right, thanks for the phone call.
Twenty eight to ten. Nathan says, thank you for your service.
By the way, okay, I don't have a feel for
it one way or the other. I don't know much
about Notre Dame at all. I know that you didn't
see their depth chart one came out yesterday. I no, okay,

(01:01:06):
I didn't. I mean, I I could lie and say
that I did. By the way, I've been a bad archivist.
What did you say besides Piers Second on the depth
chart Astros in their next five by the next Monday,
they'll they'll get the game and a half back they lost. Okay,
and I didn't write down what Connor said either. Connor
has them three and three in the next six games. Okay,

(01:01:27):
So that's two with Bolton with the Philadelphia and then four.
Then you are good for you. You are a good archivist.
The best way to get me to do something? Does it?
Tell me? I can't? Yeah, Ross, I want you to
get here by eleven o'clock every morning. You can't do it?

(01:01:49):
All right, Matt, I'll do what I can't. Now, that's
a lifelong battle. That one. You did work the tenth
You did work the tenth inning last night. How are
the calls?

Speaker 3 (01:01:59):
I'm working ten thning as well? How'd that happen?

Speaker 2 (01:02:02):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:02:03):
I think I am. I know, do we swap or anything?
I think I'm on it tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:02:06):
Yeah, because Carla's got volleyball, so I'm not there, Okay,
but I got it on Thursday when the Royals are
in town for a four game series.

Speaker 3 (01:02:14):
Good.

Speaker 2 (01:02:14):
I'm proud of you, Matt. And what about Adam and Adam? No,
they're off at four thirty today. Oh, they're working the
vigorous ninety minute shift today again. Yeah, it's it's meat
today and Friday, and then tomorrow they're doing the tenth
inning showing. I'm doing the on deck and you're going
to be getting our fantasy football draft, right. Are you
ready to go by the way I need to do.
I've kind of no, I'm behind a little bit on

(01:02:37):
my studies. Okay, real quick. I've receivers and running backs.
I've looked at more. I need to do tight ends
and quarter We see a quarterback taken in the first
round of our absolutely normally it's multiple because we have
six point passing touchdowns. Yeah, so it makes sense. I
kind of like it that way. I do like six
point touchd Yeah, I know you did it like minutes
before the draft. Yeah. One year.

Speaker 3 (01:02:54):
Yeah, and people.

Speaker 2 (01:02:54):
Say, guys and people six point touchdowns and people loved it.

Speaker 3 (01:02:59):
It's still it's still true fifty fifty.

Speaker 2 (01:03:00):
I like it now just because it's unique in that
lead's the only league I have that does it. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:03:05):
Well, I think it puts value in the quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:03:07):
I'm not gonna I'm not gonna divolt my thoughts on
the values. Okay, but you're the commissioner. You can do
anything you want. No, I'm leaving it. Okay, we did
a vote last year, we did a survey. All right,
last call when gut feelings belongs to Arthur? On seven
on ere Arthur, what's in your gut this week?

Speaker 4 (01:03:25):
Oh?

Speaker 7 (01:03:25):
First of all, I want to say congratulations to Tumlas
for graduate and my good feeling is dead. Quinn years, Yeah,
you never won't see anyone years you played kind of
to He's gonna end up getting this SLF hurt and
we'll get to chance to see the man and kids
coming to his all with university this year.

Speaker 2 (01:03:47):
All right, thanks Arthur for the phone call. So arch
Manning is all about this ROSSI let's se you and
I did this for when we're quick. Okay, number of
passes Arch Manning throws this season.

Speaker 3 (01:04:00):
That's a good question. I mean, so let me know
how many many?

Speaker 2 (01:04:03):
If quin youwers gets hurt in the first it'll be
at five hundred. Right, let's go to Okay, the cream
cake opponents are Colorado State. They're very tough. Rice. I
want to say, yes.

Speaker 3 (01:04:15):
That's called a rivalry game, Matt, for whom what do
you mean?

Speaker 2 (01:04:20):
John F? Kennedy before he got his head blown off,
was talking about.

Speaker 3 (01:04:23):
Right, it feels very personal.

Speaker 2 (01:04:25):
That personal you said, blown off a president, say, how
rude Jesus for historians, it's way too soon, all right?
So who are the piece of cakes games? No, it's
not Rice, It's it's UTSA and Louisiana Monroe. Those are
good teams. Okay, so that's twenty passes each of those three.

(01:04:46):
That's sixty. I will set the over under on arch
Manning passes at eighty one. Okay, I don't all go under.
I mean me too. That sucks. But always got hurt
this year Oklahoma. And you heard him, don't you. It
was at Fearsome University of Houston Defense, Colorado State two thirty.

(01:05:07):
Let's go right here on seven ninety. That's right. I
think oh im in the family. It'll be.

Speaker 3 (01:05:17):
It's in the iHeart Fan k TR eight. You're nine
fifty right, we're getting in.

Speaker 2 (01:05:20):
We're carrying A and M games, we're caring iams, we're
doing L s U games.

Speaker 3 (01:05:24):
Texas Games. Got the U of H game.

Speaker 2 (01:05:26):
That'd be the one you want to listen to because
you know who'll be hosting that pregame show. Your boy me.
Oh great, Oh man, you can't rerun the you can't
rewrack the Dana Holgerson.

Speaker 3 (01:05:35):
You get Fritz on weekly. Oh, Fritz tomorrow, Fritz tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (01:05:39):
Oh great. Yeah, you're basically you're doneis your days, Easie?
We got shocking him some halls. No, that's his voice. Okay,
that's a that's a man that's put in his hours.
That's what I'm saying. Like I'm a little worse. I'm
just worried. Don't worry about him. Okay, he's five one
on Sports Talk seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven ninety If you want to get in

(01:05:59):
seven one three two one two five seven nine zero,
let's talk about Big City Wings, where today is buy one,
get one free Wings and any of the thirteen Big
City Wing locations. It's also the absolute perfect place to
go to have your fantasy football draft. We here at

(01:06:21):

they will take care of your party and then some
great weight service outstanding options for food value packs it more.
And today would be a great day to go because

dot com. Get that party planned for maybe college football.
By the way, on Saturdays, they'll open up their restaurants,
all thirteen to them at ten thirty. That's Big City
Wings and Big Citywings dot Com. I've never seen Ross

(01:07:15):
work so diligently on audio before in my life. So
you're trying to catch me saying that I think the
season was over with. I don't remember what we were
even arguing about, but you told me I couldn't find
at some point.

Speaker 3 (01:07:24):
You know what it is.

Speaker 2 (01:07:25):
I think I didn't in all honestly say that I
think we should stop worrying about the division race. I
think it's what we said, okay, that I was thinking
more about wild card. Then the Mariners just and then
they just say with the bed yeah, in a big way,
and they're three and one with a new manager who
never managed the game before in his life or even coach.

Speaker 3 (01:07:44):
I think I wonder maybe you just.

Speaker 2 (01:07:48):
Need a little sumpthing, You just need a different voice.

Speaker 3 (01:07:51):
I never thought Scott Service was a good manager to
begin with.

Speaker 2 (01:07:54):
I thought he was. I'm not.

Speaker 3 (01:07:56):
You know, I can't, we can't you we don't watch
it to day?

Speaker 2 (01:07:58):
Right, How is it? I I found soft.

Speaker 3 (01:08:04):
Him for a long period of time.

Speaker 2 (01:08:06):
We do know that.

Speaker 8 (01:08:07):
You know.

Speaker 2 (01:08:07):
It's funny because I think managerial hate is something that's
so easy to do. For instance, I have two friends
of mine, Adrian Chopperia who's the Spanish voice of the Rockets,
and my buddy Ed've talked about a few times. They
are both die hard Dodger fans. They don't know who
they are, I mean, they don't know each other, but

(01:08:28):
they both have incredible disdain for Dave Roberts. I mean
every time I bring up Dave Roberts to Adrian, he
just he just starts rampantly dropping f bombs. I think
a lot of a lot of Dodgers fans are with
with him. Uh. We were talking about who else, say

(01:08:49):
today was a manager that people did not like? Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:08:53):
The Joe spot of hate is incredible.

Speaker 2 (01:08:55):
Yeah, I'm gonna start forwarding every spot of hate to
the person's hosting a tenth inning show.

Speaker 3 (01:09:02):
I'm good, Yeah, we got some yesterday.

Speaker 2 (01:09:04):
Yeah. Why would you pitch Josh Hader in the night
in the tenth inning? Uh? Because you paid him ninety
five million dollars to pitch in these situations? And then
that one guy you can only pit look at his
r and safe situations. You can only put you can
only put him in if it's a safe situation. No,
that's ridiculous. Like, here's something called he needs to pitch better,

(01:09:25):
here's something called fade material. Okay, please inquire to sleepy
Joe Oh as to why he left singleton to run
in the ninth inning won a double Literally, any other
runner likely wins the game. Was he playing chess? Playing
for his at bat in eleventh to twelfth asking for
a friend? You know what my response was, you may
want to look at these guys first, Gammel, Gammel, Ben

(01:09:48):
Ben gam Who'll be on the show at around two
o'clock today? Oh wonderful. Yeah, somewhere in the two o'clock hour,
lined out the center, i'l two bay ground that out,
the short whick come lined out the second. That meant
guess who stayed second base the entire time. It did
not have to move a single inch. John Singles, That
would be John Singleton. They tell you this in all honesty,

(01:10:09):
ladies and gentlemen, And I know I'm speaking to a
very few of you, But if you continue to blame
the manager every time the Astros is a game, you
just don't show like you got much of a baseball
like you and you don't give them any credit when
they win. That's the most frustrating part of this is
that you never give them any credit when they win

(01:10:30):
a baseball game. It's always the players when they win,
and it's always a manager when they lose. I have
a question, Matt, why would Joe a Spot to have
the Astros go one for ten with runners in scoring
position yesterday? Because he likes to see frustration. It seems
like you like to see sadness. I think it's a
mistake for a Spot to have them go one for
ten with Shay Whitcomb getting the only hit. It's Jake

(01:10:54):
Myers over two. I did tweet at you with the
double play. No, for as fast as he is, he
hits into a lot, you know, it's all that hard
hit contact. Matt when you're as fast as Jake Myers,
you're gonna hit into a double play when you get
the high exit VLO.

Speaker 3 (01:11:11):
On the ground ball.

Speaker 2 (01:11:12):
You know what, he's too strong for his own good.
More tappers and then he would be fewer double plays.
But he's just he's just so good at the plate
that he hits into double plays. So, using that train
of thought, why is his batting average so poor the
last three months?

Speaker 3 (01:11:26):
He's underperforming His xba's got some bad luck.

Speaker 2 (01:11:29):
So every at bad of his is just a situation
of bad luck, not everyone. What about all the strikeouts?
What about what about the what about the number of
men left on base? Bad calls from the umpire. Yeah,
it's not been pretty. His XBA actually is two fifty four.
It's pretty solid. He's hitting two thirty one though. We

(01:11:51):
don't have to talk about that. No, we're done, okay,
because when he does do well, it's a cost for celebration.

Speaker 3 (01:11:59):
He's supposed to be your eighth nine hitter.

Speaker 2 (01:12:01):
You're down a couple of guys, and heaven forbid, they
hit him clean up here and there.

Speaker 3 (01:12:05):
He did last week.

Speaker 2 (01:12:06):
Remember that. I know, I think we all we all
shook our heads like there must be some sort of
typographical air or something on that. It wasn't good. Hey, Jake,
the Jake Myers fan club is staying strong. Somebody was
tweeting me you win. Are you dissolving the club? No,
we don't falter. When they're going gets tough. The tough
get going. You almost believe it, don't you. Jake Myers,

(01:12:29):
he's turning things around. You would think he'd be calling
the show thanking you. He should. Interesting story about Chas
McCormick in The Athletic Worthy were read. He's the first
admit I've sucked this year. He should be as compared
to making excuses. It's like I've I've let myself down,
I've let the team down. I'm not who I am.
That has just been. I mean, I don't he has been.

(01:12:55):
He's hitting one eighty eight with an ops of five
twenty eight. How this far into the season and you
frankly need him because he can play multiple outfield positions. Yes,
and you don't want Jordan playing left field five days
a week. It's two hundred played appearances. It's not like
it's huge, you know, not like he's a qualified hitter.
But that's that's still, it's plenty of sample size. And

(01:13:18):
you know what, some guys can just have an awful year.
There are some guys in baseball that, uh, you know,
eras two and a half, three and a half four,
and then all of a sudden it's a five or
six pop up for a while. Well you got to
bring up Raphael Montero like that. Well he's pitching well
at triple A. So okay, by the way, what do
we think about Uh, let's see, here's the Chas McCormick quote.

(01:13:39):
Quote from Chandler Rum story. I have to do it myself.
I'm the one effing going out there. I love the
advice that everyone's been trying to help me, but it's
been six months. I need to go out there and
stop being a bitch. Hmmm, wow, God, I love that
self talk. You should say them more off from about

(01:14:00):
this show. Sometimes come in here and have a little
more fire in your belllet Ross, I'm trying, you know what, Matt,
I'm trying to get better every day. Uh, like a
puzzled look on your face. I didn't need to so yeah, Uh,
you got another Dodger, former Dodger coming to the Astros

(01:14:21):
maybe and Jason Hayward. Jason Hayward is thirty five years old,
slash two, weight two eighty nine, on base three ninety three,
slug six home runs at twenty eight RBIs in sixty
three games last year two sixty nine, fifteen home runs

(01:14:46):
ops of eight thirteen. Yeah, that's good. I mean you
are literally trying to catch lightning on a bottle on
this one. Our good friend Ben Gammel has been doing well. Yeah,
and he will join the show coming. We're not good friends, yee.
We don't know how good a friends we are. We'll
find out we're about to be broskies. Well I thought
you we thought we're gonna be friends with Taylor what's
his name? And that it didn't turn out so hot.

(01:15:08):
We're getting there. It's just, uh, that's just how people
talking to Johannesberg like dismiss him and hateful. Yeah, he
didn't talk that way. It was just it was just
a little more work. Yeah, that's okay. Maybe you guys
can break some bread in the off season, Like, is

(01:15:29):
there a place that gets South African food here? Maybe?

Speaker 3 (01:15:32):
What is South African? I don't know, they aized.

Speaker 2 (01:15:35):
I don't know. I mean, I'm assuming you if there
are people from South Africa oil and gas are working here,
that there's probably somewhere in town that give you good South.

Speaker 3 (01:15:44):
Where going to Just reach.

Speaker 2 (01:15:45):
Out to her on Twitter, where's a good place for
South Africa grub in Houston? And can you meet us
there or can I bring it to you? But she's
something else though, Oh I got another thing for you.
We come back. It's a little not it's it's it's
it's a social media esque but it's it's somewhat sports
but mainly not okay, and it's a little bit sexist.

(01:16:06):
Uh oh, can't wait for this one. I mean, I
didn't mean to set it up that way, but it
is the SCC on the line for this one. Yeah.

Speaker 10 (01:17:55):
Quick Cannibal fact number two hundred and thirty three. Most
will don't watch sports. They're Dallas fans.

Speaker 3 (01:18:04):
And when I think of whining, I think of Dallas.

Speaker 1 (01:18:06):
And speaking of Wales, back to former Whale Matt Thomas,
I'll be back to my girlish weight of two eighty
six on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (01:18:25):
All right, here comes the sexist comment.

Speaker 2 (01:18:29):
Uh oh, have we cleared this with our lawyers.

Speaker 3 (01:18:33):
Well, it's really not my fault that it's sexist.

Speaker 2 (01:18:36):
Okay, whose fault is it?

Speaker 3 (01:18:39):
Do you know who this girl, Taylor mathis is?

Speaker 2 (01:18:42):
No? So because I shouldn't, but I do it anyway.
I go to the four U TEB. You've been telling
me for weeks now I shouldn't go to it, correct,
But I think all of us just happened to go
to the four U tech. Yeah. I mean, if you're bored,
you've seen what you've seen. And I went to the
you tab and this woman, tedlor Maths showed up. Okay, she,

(01:19:07):
for those of you that don't know, does the football
and baseball picks, and you you would quote tweeted her recently.
I did quote tweet her one time. That's why she's
gonna show up in your for you tab. But she
was showing up before I did that, Okay, I know.
So what she does. So what she does is she
walks around, okay, with her phone in her hand, going

(01:19:27):
over what she likes on various picks about player props
and game props. Okay, and you think it good for her,
she's got a nice living going for herself. Well she's
not stupid. She does it with her ample breasts bouncing around. Okay.
So today I went to the for you tab and

(01:19:50):
there was another woman who I did not write her
name down. You gonna write it down? Well, I wanted to.

Speaker 3 (01:19:56):
Use it for the example. Okay, Yeah, she's.

Speaker 2 (01:20:00):
This woman was sitting in her in her bedroom, maybe
on a couch or something, yes, with about seventy percent
of her breasts exposed, doing the same thing. She's going
to his picks, deep analytical picks about what's going on. Okay.
Then there's this guy named Rico Bosco that's doing the
exact same thing. He's got his stay with me on this.

(01:20:24):
He's walking with his picks, okay, and he's trying to
be Meanwhile, he has his girlfriend behind him. Oh and
she has ample breast moving around. Okay, when did when
did this new trend of really attractive women with large
breasts becoming a huge part of the pro handicapper society

(01:20:45):
and basically saying, listen to our picks, but watch my
breast bounce. Well, sex sells, Maddie, and you do have uh.
With the legalization of sports betting all across the country,
a lot more betting content, creators, a lot more thirst
for betting content, and it seems only natural. I will

(01:21:08):
say this my opinion, if there is somebody who is
beating spreads and who has deep analytics and who's running
algorithms and is beating and is winning, you're not giving
away your picks for free. Yeah No, there's virtually no
long term big winner that's out there giving picks for free,

(01:21:28):
and if they are, they shouldn't be. And all it takes,
really if those of you who don't know to be
considered an excellent handicapper is getting fifty five percent of
your picks, right, Yeah, you say, actually even last depending
you said, that's easy. Go go make your go get
your last ten picks against the spread and see how
you do.

Speaker 3 (01:21:48):
Do you get fifty five percent?

Speaker 7 (01:21:49):
Right?

Speaker 2 (01:21:49):
More?

Speaker 3 (01:21:50):
Like more than like you don't.

Speaker 2 (01:21:52):
Yeah, there's been a lot of like studies done and
people follow these gamblers and generally they're around fifty five
percent or fifty they're really good. One are under fifty
percent or around fifty percent, which means you're going to
lose to juice. Yeah, because if you're sharp as you
as they call it, sharp betters. Sharp betters aren't just
putting their picks for free on Twitter. But what do we,

(01:22:12):
as heterosexual males supposed to do? This is the worst
thing I've ever seen in my life, Don't mean because
I look at the people. What people do is will
Coult tweet them? Uh huh. And it's about their breast, okay,
And clearly these women are not bothered by it. Well
that's good, don't you think if you got to use it?

(01:22:34):
But if you want to be a legitimate handicapper, do
you use the breast to help make this happen? No?
Well then why is tannor Mathis, Why is she bouncing
around like she's a hashtag content creator.

Speaker 3 (01:22:51):
Look, I don't know Taylor Mathis.

Speaker 2 (01:22:52):
I haven't followed her picks, but I said, I'm using
this for males, females whoever. In general, if you're a
winning sports better and you're an actual sharp better, who's
I mean? People like in Vegas or wherever you're betting,
they're probably you're you're not putting your picks out public.
You're not. Yeah, you are that you're charging a large
amount of money for right.

Speaker 3 (01:23:13):
Even then they do.

Speaker 2 (01:23:14):
It's because lines get the lines get moving, and these books,
these books stay on top of things, and they'll crush
your action, these these DraftKings and these fanduels. If you're
a winning better, if you show some level of not
being complete mouth breather, they'll cut you right off. Yeah,
which I don't like, which I I I pushed for

(01:23:35):
the legalization of gambling worldwide. But if they're going to
be so predatory and spend so much on this advertising
and then you show that you have a little bit
of a brain in your head and they cut you off,
I don't like that.

Speaker 3 (01:23:47):
Why would you like?

Speaker 2 (01:23:48):
Why would you give somebody your money if you don't
have a chance to make it. It'd be like going
investing in the stock market. Well, if you make too
much money the stock we're going to drop you from it. Yeah,
don't seem fair at all. No, it's not, because we're
the ones taking the chance by giving you our money
to begin with.

Speaker 3 (01:24:03):
You as DraftKings, you as what's the other ones out there.

Speaker 2 (01:24:07):
FANUE, GM and GM, Caesars Sports Book, you're the ones
that are putting up anything.

Speaker 3 (01:24:12):
So there are shops in Vegas. They'll take money from Sharp's.

Speaker 2 (01:24:15):
But sometimes if you're they have to find what you'll
you'll call beards. For example, Phil Mickelson, there was a
whole lawsuit with he was with Billy Walters because the
books foot they found him a rube and his phil
Phil Mickelson, Phil Mickison was getting the bet from Billy
Walters and then going to the book and betting on
his behalf. Same thing for other betters. Heralobus vulgaris. I mean,
there's been big named guys who've been beards. Floyd Mayweather

(01:24:37):
has been a beard for they that's what they call it.
When you make the bet on behalf of the sharp
betters because they they killed the action. So what I
want to know is, man to man, do I look
at Taylor and take her picks? Or just look at
her picks? You you can do whatever you want. But yeah,
you can take her picks, I'm gonna say generally, And

(01:25:00):
like I said, I'm putting anybody that's putting out their
picture publicly probably gonna be about fitty fitty.

Speaker 3 (01:25:05):
Yeah, but what if we as guys did that.

Speaker 2 (01:25:09):
What if we try to expose ourselves in order to
get more people to look at our stuff.

Speaker 3 (01:25:16):
I think you'd probably be arrested if you're trying to
expose me.

Speaker 2 (01:25:18):
I think I got that. Dude. No, but it's pretty close,
and she's fully close, and she's walking. She's not sitting still.
Why can't she walk? She can walk, but she knows
what happens when she walks. Okay, but then don't look, Matt.
I have remuted you do yes, I don't believe you. You

(01:25:38):
should have her bookmarked. I have remuted go look at
my people.

Speaker 3 (01:25:42):
I follow. I'll follow her.

Speaker 5 (01:25:43):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:25:45):
But the problem this goes back to the central point
of the conversation. For you tab largely dangerous. It sounds
like the for you tab is tailored exactly for they
know what you want you stay. I'm just kidding. Oh,
I'm gonna look at your four you tapped ring to break,
see what you got. I don't think you'd be happy
about that. We found some audio. We found some audio

(01:26:06):
of us and a gut feeling on the astros.

Speaker 3 (01:26:08):
Oh yes, are were you just trying to shame me
even more?

Speaker 2 (01:26:11):
Pretty much? I said it. I said it was a
gut feeling. Hold on it a prediction. Let's go to
the best of gut feelings and we'll do that two
o'clock hour, okay, Plus Ben Gamble's gonna join us.

Speaker 3 (01:26:22):
What was today's edition to believe it or not? Coming
up with two fifty? Oh wow?

Speaker 2 (01:26:27):
Somebody just oh, we have to read on this. Apparently
these these ladies are feuding. Which ones these betters, these
busty betters? Is that what they're called? The busty betters?
So why are they feuding? I don't know. We'll figure
this out. Oh it's who is? Oh yeah, sports betting
influencers locked in the heated social media feud straight robbery.

Speaker 3 (01:26:50):
We'll get to the bottom of this or the top
of it.

Speaker 2 (01:26:53):
Right after this.

Speaker 1 (01:26:57):
Lunchtimers, This is the Tommy Show.

Speaker 2 (01:27:01):
Two o three on Sports Talk seven on a Ross,
we challenged him to find the audio of a June
gut feeling where he.

Speaker 3 (01:27:10):
Thought I was what do you think? What do you
think I was doing?

Speaker 2 (01:27:13):
But I said you You basically said you weren't there yet.
But you see where I'm coming from, and I believe
that was the case. Here is going to classic gut
feeling back in time with gut feeling of the summertime.

Speaker 3 (01:27:27):
I have something that I have a gut feeling.

Speaker 2 (01:27:31):
Okay, you are you're you're smirking or you've got a
nervous twitch in your mouth right now.

Speaker 3 (01:27:36):
I'm nervous.

Speaker 2 (01:27:37):
Why are you nervous? It's a real but I don't
want to say it out. You want to whisper to
me and I'll say it sty He wants to stop. Okay,
I forgot about him. This might be encoded and that
would be very bad for us to play it. Oh
my god, I just thought of that. I'm sorry. I'm
sorry to do this and to ruin the bit yep,

(01:27:58):
they ruined. That's a right terminology and code. We can't Yeah,
we can't play too yeah, oh well, thanks, Ross. I'm
sorry that there's a I know how to fix it.

Speaker 3 (01:28:12):
The next break.

Speaker 2 (01:28:13):
You promise, I remember this gonna be such good audio
worthy of playing the next break. That's fine, all right,
Uh Ross, why you do that?

Speaker 3 (01:28:20):
Don't do it. Let's go over all the cuts. What
do you got on the big cut list?

Speaker 2 (01:28:23):
What do you mean now, you're supposed to give me
the cut list? No, I gave you the cut list.
I have, I have Mike Ford see you later. We
should just get to do Robert Ford. Did Robert Ford
call each of them and say we will just watch
you go? He didn't call him and say good morning,
I get out there to good night. That'd be pretty
funny if he did fire. It's funny because if I

(01:28:44):
was to call him, I wouldn't say set's fire's hits.
I'd be like, set's fire, you're gone, Sets hits, you're fired,
or nothing but no paycheck, nothing but pink's lip. That
feels terrible. It's terrible.

Speaker 3 (01:29:01):
Okay, go ahead, Oh you only want me to I
know you don't have to.

Speaker 2 (01:29:04):
It's fine.

Speaker 3 (01:29:05):
I don't do you think the general what would you say?

Speaker 2 (01:29:07):
The headliners of the cut list are Nick Bowden full
back tight end has been boil released. Okay, all they
have no fullbacks of the season, all three of them
been cut.

Speaker 3 (01:29:17):
Okay, it's twenty twenty four.

Speaker 2 (01:29:19):
Yeah, full backs can be you can actually you can
actually swing a tight end over and play full back
of your head. Yeah, it's fine. I'm not going through
the whole list because it's frankly ninety a half percent
of people you've never heard of before. Okay, U Astros
drop a game to the Philadelphia Phillies yesterday, walk off fashion,
Josh Hater pitching his second inning, the Manfred Man scores

(01:29:39):
and they lose. And why does that happen every time
the Astros lose a game with the Manford Man rule
that everybody goes. I hate the man for a man rule.
I looked at the top of the tenth thing and
Jas McCormick's at second base. Thus he was the Manford man.
That is correct. You had the same opportunities and you
went one for ten with runners is a corny position.

(01:30:00):
Bottom line, you lost the ball game. It shouldn't even
have went nine if you could come up with some
hits before that. Yeah, ninth and tenth, you know you
hadn't you know, you would have liked to have seen
some opportunities, but they didn't happen in the tending. The
big strikeout of Alex Bregman was the start of things,

(01:30:24):
and now Justin Verlander is here to save the day,
hopefully or give up two home runs as some people predicted.
I don't know about you, folks, but the hatred that
Ross has to the local.

Speaker 3 (01:30:34):
Nine is so pronounced right now.

Speaker 2 (01:30:36):
I am. I am born and raised in Houston, Texas
Astros fans since.

Speaker 3 (01:30:42):
The word go.

Speaker 2 (01:30:44):
But yet you're a realist and you think the Astros
are gonna give up the lean in the division. No,
I didn't say that. Oh you bet thirty bucks. You
bet twenty bucks. The Astros were twenty to thirty. That
means you're the favorite. I mean the outcome that you
had is the favorite should have how probability were really
should have brought me the chicken?

Speaker 3 (01:31:00):
After all?

Speaker 2 (01:31:01):
What chicken? The chicken in the airport Las Vegas? That
was twenty bucks? Okay, no, not now, it's not okay,
it's too late. You didn't do it. It's fine.

Speaker 3 (01:31:09):
You want all that money in Vegas and didn't want
to spend money in.

Speaker 2 (01:31:11):
That much you did, okay, But the fact that yeah,
we won, and then circuit now way you won, Oh sorry,
I won? Yeah, and then Circuit took care of us. Yep,
it was a great trip for me. I'm sure it was.
You know, when you factor in Matt that you got right,
that you got flight and hotel covered, you really about
almost broke even. Is that how you think I should

(01:31:32):
sell it to the house. That's how you should sell
it to your wife. You know.

Speaker 3 (01:31:35):
She, to her credit, she wasn't mad.

Speaker 2 (01:31:37):
Okay, good, she wasn't mad because I do not take
any more than I'm willing to lose.

Speaker 3 (01:31:43):
Okay, he needs to make your mortgage.

Speaker 2 (01:31:45):
So I was one to lose this and I lost that.
That's the that hurts. You get out x amount and
you're like, Okay, if things go well, I can win.
If things go worse, then I can't lose any more
than this, and then you lose all of that. It's
not great. No, it's not good because you just to
save money over the time to say I'm saving this
money for a trip, and you blow it fairly easily.
Or it could have paid for mortgages, or could have

(01:32:06):
paid for cars. It could have paid electricity. He could
just handed it over to me, could have handed over
to you. Been less adventures somebody worked with w connor
mc oh connor really feeling like, you know what, I'm
the one scraping by here and yeah, he's carouseling a
bunch of women on his salary. Yeah, how are you
affording this, Connor? How you afford dating two women at
the same time. It's not I mean the bank account's

(01:32:26):
going dry and these too, and these two women don't
know that you're dating the other woman. Correct, he's just
he's just cash. Everything's a casual Matt. Yeah, it's not
like he's but it's not like he has a secret family. Yeah,
this just all started. Yeah, you didn't answer my question. Now,
of course they don't. That's a very no.

Speaker 3 (01:32:46):
No, he's he's doing that. He's playing the cards right
on the first day.

Speaker 11 (01:32:49):
Yeah, you want me to just like spill the beans
and be like, all right, so like I'm gonna be
honest tomorrow I'm seeing another girl, so hopefully you're okay
with that.

Speaker 2 (01:32:59):
Yeah, let me why are that philosophy? Next time is Yeah,
come on the phone with each other and record it,
just a group text. Yeah, Hey, you can stand there.
Which one of you wants to date me? You know,
gone on a date tomorrow night and the first one
that reaches back via text gets the date.

Speaker 3 (01:33:13):
I feel like that's gonna end up in me getting either.

Speaker 2 (01:33:15):
Probably so, so does one have an advantage of the
other day both fifty to fifty at this point.

Speaker 11 (01:33:19):
Well one I've I've gone on more dates with, so
I feel like she has the advantage as of right now.

Speaker 2 (01:33:27):
Yet to see on the other one, I suppose is
that the are you texting that one more than the
other one as well? Yeah? Okay, so there is a
clear leader in the clubhouse. Yeah for now, Yeah, things
can change. You've got to go through the weekend. Matt.
Uh yet y're on easy? Who hates who more? Ross
hating the local nine? I do not mt hating Callan

(01:33:47):
Hannah's bunch. I don't hate the Textans. I'm a realist. No,
you hate them?

Speaker 8 (01:33:51):
No.

Speaker 2 (01:33:51):
If I said I'd hate him, I would tell you
I hated it Texans Matt hashtag Indie Matt. I didn't
think anything about the Texans. I think I thought the
Texans are going to beat the Colton week one. Okay, good?
Did I not that was not just part of the
tell the Truth yesterday. You gotta listen yan easy. And
we haven't broken down this This Taylor mathis feud yet
What to do it when we come back? Or what

(01:34:13):
is a break What is there a Breakdown's been gamble
sometime this half hour? Well, I guess these walking picks
that she does some other woman has accused of her
stealing the content Lucy Burge and how she look I
mean when it when it comes down to it, is
that's the first question you asked, because that's the whole
point of these videos is to see these racks being

(01:34:34):
bouncy and bouncy everywhere. Are you really going there for
their picks? I'm not going there anywhere. I've never heard
of these people before you brought it up. You will
because I've been saying their names five times, and that's
gonna be in your algorithm now. Now it's in my
algorithm because I went to this Lucy Ladies Twitter.

Speaker 3 (01:34:54):
All I can say back to you is you're welcome.

Speaker 1 (01:35:51):
Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:35:57):
Did you get the can't miss audio ready to go?

Speaker 5 (01:36:00):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:36:00):
I'm a little worried about this. We've only tried to
play this once and didn't go well. Inside radio. We're
a five hour a fine old radio machine here at
seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (01:36:12):
Okay, we're good, now, go ahead.

Speaker 2 (01:36:15):
I said there. We had to take the care of
some things on the technicals. Okay, very good, Now go
ahead explain yourself. Yeah, the gut feeling, I said, it
was just I said it was a gut feeling. Like
I said, you keep trying to go back like this
is a gotcha moment, and I was defying and like, no, way,
no how, the Astros aren't making the playoffs. That's not
how it was. And here's the audio from June eighteenth.
And I thought there were ten games back when I

(01:36:36):
did this, but they were nine. I have something that
I have a gut feeling. Okay, you are you're you're
smirking or you've got a nervous twitch in your mouth.
Right now, I'm nervous. Why are you nervous? It's a real,
actual gut feeling. But I don't want to say it
out loud. You wanna whisper to me, I'll say it. Okay,
Well first let me let me, let me gather myself

(01:36:56):
justin very are ready for this. This is going to
be a big This is this is the most climactic
gut feeling maybe you've ever had in the history of
gut feelings. The Astros are making the playoffs, I said,
Art I don't think I could have hurt you. Look,
excuse me, I didn't hear what you had to say.

Speaker 5 (01:37:12):
What was it?

Speaker 2 (01:37:14):
I just Verlander's down, Kyle Tucker's still not back. You're
nine games back, You've got five teams to hop in
the wild card. It's the gut feelings and not a prediction.
It's a gut feeling. It just doesn't feel like they're
making the playoffs. I'm not ready to say that yet,
but I might join you July and fifteenth. But again,

(01:37:36):
it's it's in my mind. It's still too a little
too premature, because I know who they are. I know
that they are should be playing better than what they have.
Injuries are a problem for sure, and you have ultimately
the trade deadline. But I'm gonna wait. Not saying that
it's a terrible thought, not saying that I may not
echo it. I'm just telling you what I feel. My gout.

Speaker 3 (01:37:54):
I'm just being honest with the people.

Speaker 2 (01:37:55):
I said. You know what, That's why we call you
misterreh honesty, you honest. Wrong that well, I think people
will once again realize that when they want to come
from correct predictions and proper analysis, they'll go to this
part of the table for that here on Sports Talk
seven on ay noon to three. Is that me? Why?
Because I said I'm not giving up on them yet. Yeah,

(01:38:17):
don't give up on us. Don't give up on us, baby.
I said it was a fluid situation, and it was.
It was a good feeling at the time, not a prediction.
I Claire, I even was very cul you did. You
did so, I'm not going to give you a whole
lot of grief. A little bit of grief, yes, but
not a whole lot. But you are not the minority.

(01:38:39):
It is not looking because things are looking better. At
that time. You had Joe a spot I was overmatched,
doesn't know how to manage a team.

Speaker 3 (01:38:47):
This is what other people were saying.

Speaker 2 (01:38:48):
Yes, you had people asking if Dusty Baker could be
flown in to manage the team the rest of the year. Yeah,
it's true. I forgot about that. What is it Dusty doing?
Let's get him back. I think Dusty's enjoying retirement is
what he's probably I imagine. I mean, he's in his
seventies now. I wonder if he'll be at the Rockets

(01:39:09):
Kings game. He lives in the sacrament area. Oh really,
you gonna tell him to come by, Yeah, he can
do it to get him tickets, though he might go, well,
I was gonna get impress pass. He knew call our commentary.
I mean the third quarter that actually be pretty good.
Hey man, Let's start telling you stories about like I
don't know, bad News Barns in the seventies or something,
watching Bill Russell play. Yeah, that's true. Yeah, you know,

(01:39:30):
Dusty was. Dusty was a great storyteller. But Dusty was
very set in his ways. And when you have two
thousand major league wins, you can kind of be set
in your ways, right he I don't think he's anymore
was any more of an old school manager than anybody.
I mean, do you think Buck Do you think Buck

(01:39:50):
Showalter was a real guy that was flexible and his
the way he ran a team. Do you think that
Joe Torrey towards the end was Do you think Lou
Panello was Do you think Tony LaRusso was?

Speaker 7 (01:40:00):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:40:01):
When you start getting into the World Series on a
regular basis on playoffs and winning a large amount of games,
the easy default is I've been there, done that. You haven't,
and I don't care what the kids are doing in twenty, nineteen,
twenty and twenty four. I know what it takes the
one to win championships. He was successful here. He's the
perfect higher. After the scandal, I just think it's it's folks.

(01:40:23):
He beloved and knows baseball, a baseball life. He was
basically like a quarterback in football. He got way too
much credit for the team being really good and got
way too much the blame when the team didn't do
so well.

Speaker 3 (01:40:36):
That's yes, that's exactly what a quarterboard.

Speaker 2 (01:40:39):
The managers. Yeah, yeah, because the because the manager, and
I've said this before, the manager. We only really can
pinpoint things come playoff time. Why did you use a
reliever in this particular situation? Why did you not pinch
hit for this guy? Those are conversations that you can

(01:40:59):
have in May, June, July, and August, and you just
go in one in or out the other, or you
just brush off because you got another game the next day.
If you don't go get somebody and let somebody pitch
one or two extra batters, or you don't pitch hint
for somebody in that pinch hitter strikes out, or you
don't change a reliever when another team makes a move,

(01:41:21):
that's when the microscope comes on to the manager, and
that's where you really see who can manage in the
postseason and who.

Speaker 3 (01:41:27):
Can I think that's as greative.

Speaker 2 (01:41:29):
For as many great things that aj Hinch did as
the manager of the Astros, there is one blemish on
his resume that's going to hit with a lot of
people that are going to think negative things about the
Astros during the time, and that was letting Will Harris
pitch in the World Series against the Nationals as many
times as he did. In that late game when you

(01:41:51):
had Garrett Cole ready to go out of the bullpen,
It's still fine. Garrett Cole was only going to be
used in a safe situation. It was not a safe situation. Yeah,
And that's what a J. Hinch does is with Joe Spot.
I mean just used to a lesser extent. But I'll
tell you why he did. The only argument you could
have that is is that you shouldn't be necessarily firm

(01:42:13):
and steady.

Speaker 3 (01:42:14):
You have to he rest. Yeah, I mean it had
never done a day.

Speaker 2 (01:42:19):
Are we doing this right now?

Speaker 3 (01:42:20):
No? No no, no, no, no no no no, Because I'm with
you on that.

Speaker 2 (01:42:22):
I'm just saying that I can already hear the people going, well,
if we went back and listened to tapes of our shows,
they'd be like, I, he's holding the team back. Gosh,
it doesn't matter who the manager is, they're going to
be criticized. It's it's there's just a sector of the
fan base that thinks that every manager is an idiot,
no matter who they are. And again, what what frustrates
me is that anytime something goes wrong, what can we

(01:42:46):
do to blame? Well, we don't all blame our favorite players,
blame the players. Literally, they went over one for ten
with runners in scoring position, and we're getting fire a
spot of tweets, Yeah, like what are.

Speaker 3 (01:42:57):
We talking about here?

Speaker 2 (01:42:58):
Or the guy that said why Singleton's second base just
standing there? Well because he couldn't move because nobody was
moving him over. Oh my gosh, it's ridiculous. But what
was the one you got last night about the relief pitching. Oh,
you can't pitch Josh Hater unless it's a safe situation.
It's a tie game in the ninth and he was

(01:43:19):
totally fine. I guess the best team in the National League,
I want my best reliever out there. Yeah, don't be ridiculous.
It's filed out absurd. As I said on Twitter, which
it is. The guy like you did? The guy like
your tweet? Now he didn't when I said his take
was absurd. You know, he did not give me a like.
He call you an ame. He sent a follow up tweet,
but I didn't even bother responding. I might have to

(01:43:42):
go lower. I have a two response limit on Twitter.
Made me have to lower it to one. Nobody ever
changes their mind on Twitter. No, it doesn't matter. You're
wasting your time. I think I'm in a two response Okay,
there's some other things I want to say to some
other people on Twitter that I just don't do because
I'm trying to be polite. I just mean it, like
in a back in fourth argument. Right, two is the
max because nobody ever changes their mind. It doesn't matter

(01:44:04):
the characters are limited. I don't care. Like the next
time I see someone go that's a fair point.

Speaker 3 (01:44:09):
I never thought of that. Yeah, it will be the
very first time.

Speaker 2 (01:44:11):
You're right. I hope you have a great day that
that doesn't happen on Twitter. You're trash. But I didn't
say any mean to you that. I Oh, that's true.
I was all out of lyne. I'm sorry it happens,
but it is rare, very rare, especially when you have
a emoji or something as your character and you don't
have your real name out there, so people don't know
who you really are. Oh, those are the guys that

(01:44:32):
talk the most trash. You don't have your picture or
your name on your Twitter account. Like just one guy
that just goes after me all the time. Mute him, Matt,
just mute him. I have muted him. Okay, good? Yeah,
and I no, I privately wish terrible things to him.
Oh and I will dance on you know what when
he's done. He's grave. Correct, Okay, I cannot wait. Starah

(01:44:56):
calling you Vendetta Matt m m no Vandna Matt would
be too strong. Okay, how about I don't forget Matt. Okay,
Elephant Matt. No, that isn't so good either, elephants don't
forget Hey, Connor, what are you playing for today? I'm
believed or not? Coming up?

Speaker 3 (01:45:15):
At half an hour from now to wording our prices.

Speaker 11 (01:45:19):
We've got some more package tickets and pit passes to
the Monster Jam at Energy Stadium.

Speaker 2 (01:45:23):
Here ever been at Monster jamp before I nuts. I
think I went to Monster Trucks when I was a kid. Yeah,
I think if you have children in the age of ten,
it's probably the greatest thing. I was like straight gasoline.
There's a lot of fumes in the enclosed building. I
went at the Astronome back in the day. You mayly
could sue somebody, you think, so, No, wonder you're I
was thinking like I was thinking, asbestos issues you have? Okay,

(01:45:46):
you're not breathing, Bara, Well are you? Well, I'll contact
my attorney, which Turney is at well, I better get him.

Speaker 3 (01:45:56):
Better get what my attorney?

Speaker 2 (01:45:58):
What's his name? That's that's not for air. Oh, you're
just saying you're keeping it to yourself. Okay, that seems
affair to twenty seven. On the Matt Thomas Show, we're
supposed to have Ben gamble here any moment. Now, you'll
call right as we're going to break. That's how raise it.
Okay those times, that's okay. Let's say about the underdog

Exclusive Astros segment on Sports Talk seven ninety's brought to
you by x Spinity Street Astros Baseball from the best
eat in the House with Ekspinity because it's only live once.

Speaker 2 (01:48:11):
Where at place Here at two thirty two to be
spending some time with Ben Gammel. He is the newest
member of the Houston Astros at a base hit yesterday
as part of the game with the Philadelphia Phillies and
has been a nice part of this team over the
last few days. And Ben Joins is here on Sports Talks. Honey, Ben,
It's Matt and Ross. How are you this afternoon?

Speaker 7 (01:48:31):
I'm good.

Speaker 2 (01:48:32):
I do today no complaints. Thanks for joining us here. Hey,
you had an appo hit yesterday. Let me ask you
a little baseball one on one. Are you able to
at this juncture in your life professionally being able to
take that pitch and say, you know what, I've got
enough awareness with my bat speed that I know if
I can take it to left field, I can get
a base hit. Or it's still a case in point

(01:48:52):
where I'm swinging and if it lands, it lands.

Speaker 3 (01:48:55):
I don't care where it falls.

Speaker 5 (01:48:57):
No, I just think kind of today with how good
pictures are. I'm just trying to make contact at all costs.

Speaker 3 (01:49:04):
And it worked for you, that's for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:49:06):
Uh. Tell us about when you got the call for
the Astors to bring you up and and get you
as part of this team and kind of the transformation
of of being with a new baseball team so late
in the season.

Speaker 5 (01:49:17):
Yeah, I was with the Mets. We were in New York.
My wife and my baby were in town and they're uh,
I think they were heading back on a Wednesday, and
I think I got DFAD on like a Sunday and
we found out I think on Tuesday that I was,

(01:49:38):
you know, going to be heading to Houston. So it
kind of timed up to where, you know, I went
to Houston and they went back home.

Speaker 2 (01:49:44):
But what a nice transition you go from a team
that's uh uh, you know, I think the Astros beat
all two out of three right in New York that weekend.

Speaker 3 (01:49:52):
You were there with him, Is that correct?

Speaker 5 (01:49:55):
Yeah, it sounds right, Yeah, definitely sounds right. Yeah, And
it's kind of been a whirlwind, you know, last last
week or so.

Speaker 3 (01:50:01):
So well, you know what those are the case. If
you can't beat them, join them, and you certainly have
done that.

Speaker 2 (01:50:06):
So you go to a you go to a team
that is looking for additional depth in a variety of
different spots. So when you first visit with Joe, what
were his kind of expectations of you and and what
did you think you could bring to the table for
the Stros.

Speaker 5 (01:50:20):
I've known Joe for a while now. Actually he was
a bench coach when I debuted with the Yankees in sixteen.
You know, just just I think more than anything, you know,
for me, it's you know, just helping the team win games.
You know, whatever that looks like, you know, you know,
if it's coming off the bench, if it's you know,

(01:50:40):
getting a start here or there, you know, just whatever
that looks like, just being prepared.

Speaker 2 (01:50:45):
You have been with what seven different MLB teams. Uh,
that has to be for the love of the game, right,
I mean obviously you feel like you got a lot
to still prove in your career. But what has it
been like, I guess for the wife and your young
child having to have this kind of moving around here
for your Ange League career.

Speaker 5 (01:51:02):
You know, it's been awesome. You know, I think we've
seen pretty much the whole country, you know, being from
you know, Seattle, the New York to San Diego and
you know, kind of everywhere in between.

Speaker 2 (01:51:15):
You know, it's just.

Speaker 5 (01:51:18):
Not you know, if you'd asked me, you know, fifteen
years ago, you know, I'd be on my ninth organization
right now. You know, I would have told you you're crazy.
But but here we are.

Speaker 2 (01:51:26):
Yeah. But you had to wear those awful met uniforms,
the ones with the gray and the pinstripes, and no
onder you wanted to leave there. I was that those
were wretched. I'm teasing, not really, but I'm not teasing Ben.
Is what Ben gamble with us here on of the
radio program. Uh, what has it been like? Walking into
this clubhouse with so much success, so many guys that

(01:51:48):
have been around for such a long period of time.
And did you have any relationships with any of those
players before you joined the team.

Speaker 5 (01:51:54):
I knew uh Mauricio Debond from Milwaukee, but you know,
outside of am I you know, just you just kind
of build a relationship with people just from playing against
them for years. You know, you see the same faces,
especially here in Houston, you know without two Vane Reggy,
I you know, played against him for a few years
when I was with Seattle, and you know, we were

(01:52:15):
always chasing these guys. So it's nice to be wearing
this uniflum And.

Speaker 2 (01:52:19):
There have been you know, some people talk about the
clubhouse culture here in Houston and that's been one of
the reasons you've had some success.

Speaker 3 (01:52:25):
Over many years.

Speaker 2 (01:52:26):
Have you experience in her that or do you feel
like it's just kind of same old, same old.

Speaker 5 (01:52:32):
Yeah, No, I think definitely. You know, you look at
the top of the lineup that's kind of who runs
the clubhouse, and you know those guys are first class.
They're you know, true pros and every sense of their word,
and they know what it takes to win games. Every day.

Speaker 2 (01:52:47):
I want you to judge Mauricio Dubond's headfirst into the
man on the on the sign wall in Baltimore. I mean,
did you want to go scoop them up and give
him and put them in an ice bath right away?

Speaker 5 (01:52:58):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (01:52:58):
Yeah, no.

Speaker 5 (01:52:59):
I I was, you know, across the field from him,
but I could hear it. I could hear the impact.
I don't know how far he ran to get to
that ball with it.

Speaker 2 (01:53:10):
I think it was one hundred feet. They said he
ran like he was dead sprinting. That was crazy.

Speaker 5 (01:53:15):
Yeah, incredible play, you know, I think that's just kind
of a testament to who dub is. You know, you
can kind of throw him anywhere on the field and
he's going to make good things happen.

Speaker 2 (01:53:25):
And uh, just overall, is there any I mean, are
you is your your head just spinning right now?

Speaker 3 (01:53:31):
As far as you.

Speaker 2 (01:53:33):
Hit the ground running, you get claimed and then now
you're you've been tossed into the lineup. Have you had
a minute to kind of settle down and say, hey,
what what's going on here?

Speaker 3 (01:53:42):
He could make me to take a breather.

Speaker 5 (01:53:45):
No, no, no breathers or anything like that. Yet, you know, Honestly,
from my experiences so far, it never really hits you
till the off season where you can kind of reflect
on how the year went and stuff like that. But
when you're in it, you know, you're just trying to
do what it takes. You know, when the game every
night and you know, I think that's really all I
can say about the season.

Speaker 2 (01:54:07):
Well, Ben, we're gonna let your roll on that.

Speaker 5 (01:54:09):
My man.

Speaker 3 (01:54:09):
Hey, thank you very much for joining us.

Speaker 2 (01:54:11):
Wish you the very best, and uh tell you what,
with Tucks still being out and Jordon wanted to play
a little bit here and there, you're gonna have an
opportunity to make some impactful plays and we hope that
you can do that because, uh, this team needs you
right now. So we thank you for joining us and
the best of lucky against Philadelphia this weekend.

Speaker 5 (01:54:25):
Appreciate it. Thank you guys. Thanks for having me.

Speaker 2 (01:54:27):
You got it, Ben Gamble joining us here on Sports
Talk seven ninety seven one three two two five seven
any Thanks for Ben for spending a couple minutes with
us here on the show getting ready for tonight's game
with the hated Philadelphia Phillies.

Speaker 3 (01:54:39):
And they hated I hate them.

Speaker 2 (01:54:41):
You do. They got a lot of guys with gangly beards.
Who's that dude in center field? He's disgusting.

Speaker 3 (01:54:46):
H you're talking about Brandon Marsh Yeah and his beard.

Speaker 2 (01:54:50):
Yeah. I mean, first of all, why don't you wash
it once in a while. I'm sure he washes it.
I mean I imagine he does. By the way, people
want us to go to the story of the girls
fighting over their sports base. Okay, what is there a story?
You got one girl basically suing the other one. Is
that how it works?

Speaker 3 (01:55:07):
And they're not getting sued?

Speaker 7 (01:55:08):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:55:08):
I think it was just one girl saying bits. The
girl yeah, bit stolen about walking bets. Now the original
girl walking bets. She has ample breast, but she's not
as bouncy as the other ones are. The other ones
are much more less of the imagination being used. Okay,
that's all I got. So really, it's not a bedstoy.

(01:55:30):
It's the only announce Wait, it's not a bit steal
because she has bigger breast, No, because hers are more
they're on Now, No, they're not Bigger's wrong with you?
They could bigger? But what is wrong? There's less to
the imagination. She's the first girl is wearing a tight
fitting outfit. The other one's just kind of just laying

(01:55:50):
it out there. What's wrong with you? Matt? What's wrong
with me? What's wrong with Twitter? These girls are getting
like ninety five thousand views. I'm not going to get
like fifty hundred years of mine. Yeah, yeah, and ninety
five thousand of those views? Are you? You know we
ought to do we ought to find a buxom girl
to make our sports picks for us, and we walk
behind him, we get lots of views.

Speaker 3 (01:56:10):
Okay, go ahead, and I'll put you in charge of that, Matt.

Speaker 2 (01:56:13):
I don't think I want to. I don't think you
should offer it up that way. Yeah, what's there? I
didn't know. If you're an attractive woman with large breast,
come shoot videos for us? Yeah? Please clip that? No, no,
don't clip that. But I mean, are you really we
if you were to look at that video, you are
you looking at her picks or her you know? Go ahead? No,

(01:56:38):
I'm good. Yeah, there we go. She was two for
the one girl. I looked that. Taylor was two for
two of the day that I went and looked at
her picks, look at her what picks? Horror selections? Yeah, Okay,
I'm sure she's doing a great job. I'm just it's

(01:57:00):
just a new trend in you know, some guys are anything. No,
I mean you have like when we have our handicappers
on we've had in the past, we have like uh uh,
Mike Nolan. Yeah, we got the room and we got
the Mike Kippinatski. You know what I'm saying. No, we
don't have wonder if we get Taylor on the show.

(01:57:22):
I'm sure you would love that, Matt. I'm sure audience
would love that, would they. You have to get what
the audience wants. Problem is, what if she's annoying. She'd
have annoying voice. She comes across as very side. Listen
to a word she said, all right, just don't go
look at you for you it's too late now. It's yeah,
it's probably on there now thanks to you. You'll thank me.

Speaker 3 (01:57:41):
No, I won't.

Speaker 2 (01:57:42):
You'll be upset, won't you? Blocker blocker, muter, whatever you
got to do, you'd be the only white, you'd be
the only warm blooded male. I know that would do that. Okay,
all right, tomorrow we have a little bit of a
shorter show. We have Astro on dec At two. O'clock.

that's not true. No, they're doing five ten because they're

(01:58:26):

Texans are placing quarterback Case Keenum on injured reserve due

meaning two quarterbacks are on the roster, c J. Stroud
and back up Davis Mills. And I believe that means
if Case is on the injured reserve, he has done
for the season. Uh yeah, is there has not been
a designation for a return? Do we know that? I
don't think so. I've not seen that. Okay, So how

(02:01:24):
about that? Is that a meaty topic a for the
next show coming up? Break that down for hours? Yeah,
he will miss the entire twenty twenty four seasons. Okay,
