Speaker 1 (00:00):
Is The Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Ten O one n ah down A good morning, and
welcome to a Christmas Eve edition of The Matt Thomas
Show with Ross.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
I'm here from the.
Speaker 4 (00:23):
Normally warm, sunny, climbing controlled city known as Los Angeles, California. Today,
rain wind, cold, flooding, tornadoes on the way, Ross, Happy
Christmas Eve? Tornadoes for real? Yeah, in California. That's what
I'm saying going on out here. I know, I don't
(00:46):
know what's going on. Wow, mud slides, fantastic, good gracious.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
And the Rockets lost the game.
Speaker 5 (00:56):
Well, at least those two a really good team, right,
I mean, they have all these future Hall of famers
and got a really good run.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
They do have future Hall of famers on it. I'm saying,
you know, I imagine that. What's the record? They got
to be at least five ten games above five hundred.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Three seed in the West. You're talking about the Clippers.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
Yeah, I almost want wanted to call in sick, but
I can't do that because I'm not sick.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
I mean, if I'm gonna call Hi sickond As will
be sick.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
We're calling pissed. I bet he made doak. I is
gonna be pissed when he goes into the twelve thirty today. Yeah,
I imagine so, as I was telling somebody from the
staff this morning when I went to go get to
coffee downstairs, I can look, road trips can be losing
(01:46):
road trips. I mean, that's going to happen.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
And if you're taking on.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
The Denver's, the Minnesota's, maybe you're up east and you're
playing the Knicks, and then you follow it up with
a game against Philadelphia or Boston who's performing up to expectation.
I mean, you know, blank's going to happen. And then
maybe you haven't won off where you lose to a
team you're not supposed to lose, to back to backs,
three games in four days, YadA, YadA, YadA. I mean
there's all sorts of scenarios because again, it's hard to
(02:12):
be a seventy win basketball team. I think Oklahoma City's
finding that out right now because the Spurs beat him again.
But Rawson this trip, first of all, his I forgot
what you look like, Number one. I forgot what my
wife looks like, which is the most important thing. I
think my kids of all age, I think my kids,
(02:33):
I think I've got grandchildren I've not met. But the
losses to New Orleans giving up twenty five, loss to
Sacramento up fourteen, and then last night it was a
good first quarter in a little bit of the second
and then Kawhi Leonard's like, you know what, I feel, spry,
I'm gonna put a forty burger on you, and that
(02:55):
bad boy was done by the start of the fourth quarter. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:59):
Early on the season, we were telling ourselves, well, you know,
all the losses are the really good teams, and then
games they could have won.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
Then we're like, okay, they lost some bad teams. They're
all close overtime. This was neither. This was neither, not
a good team and not a close one. So I'm
trying to figure it out. My Twitter feed is like, Matt,
what the App's going on? I'm like, I don't know.
I mean, is it is it coming down to a
(03:26):
lack of defensive intensity? That's that feels like that's the
overriding theme. And we'll obviously ask I mean, when he
joined us in a couple of hours about that is
the pressure too much? With a man running point? Are
they really in need dire need of.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
A true point?
Speaker 4 (03:42):
Guard. Are they missing a guy with some moxie like
Dylan Brooks.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
They will get in your face.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
Now, sometimes it'll hurt you because he's gonna get technical
fouls and get into scripes. But is the team settling defensive?
I mean it felt like to me that. And again
I didn't listen to every thing that he may said
in this post game last night, but it felt like
to me this was about not giving a professional effort
on the defensive side.
Speaker 5 (04:07):
Yeah, I think it's mostly boils down to defense. Because
the shooting percentages, even in these games they've been losing,
have been pretty good. It's just the opposing shooting percentage.
Last night, you got fifty fifty four percent from three
for the Clippers as well.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Chris Done.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
I mean, if Chris Dune's gonna beat you, you got
some issues. Brah.
Speaker 5 (04:27):
James Harden with a nice thirteen free throw attempts he
doesn't miss. I think he missed what won? Yes, yes,
you know Kawhi Leonard has missed two free throws this
entire season.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
I did not know that. Yeah, he was going into
the game last night. He was ninety two for ninety four. Wow,
I mean that's automatic when you put those two Jabronis
at the free throw line.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
That's giving them points because there's nothing you do. You
can't defend that.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
Maybe they're off a little bit once in a while,
but in Kwhi's case, it's not the case. And then
Kawhi was hitting every min range jumper found a man.
Oh it's aggravating. Oh so freaking aggravating. Now again, still
a lot of the season left to go. Things can change,
Defensive intensity can ratchet up. Look, we were feeling really
(05:18):
bad about how the Rockets played in that game against
New Orleans. It came back and went in Denver. That
was a nice victory. Uh, but you know, I thought
the Rockets really working to have a good chance a
because the Clippers have massively underperformed and be the guy
that kept them alive in that game in Houston a
few weeks back. He gits to zuboxes that with a
bad ankle.
Speaker 5 (05:36):
Yeah, it felt like an easy one. I think I
said they were gonna easily cover the seven and a half.
In my gut feelings, M.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
This was good.
Speaker 5 (05:47):
This was You don't want to call it a gimme, because,
as we keep saying, even I mean Kawhi Leonard is
going to the Hall of Fame. James Harden is going
to the Hall of Fame. Yeah, they have good players
in their team, right, but you're supposed to be better.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
Yeah. I can't put my finger on it. I can't
because everybody's you know again, fans are coming to me,
and I'm like, I I what I'm watching is the
Clippers knocked down threes on the ring.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
I mean Nick Patoon's knocking down. I mean it was
I don't even.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
Know if I want to say it was a hot
I mean, it was certainly a hot shooting night for
the Clips, and the Rockets got super cool from three
in the second half. That's it. I mean, if you
look at the number one stat that separated the game
between the two teams, it was the Clippers were making
their threes and the Rockets were not.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
But it was the extra pass. It was the open look.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
I'd have to look and see if how many of
the Rockets three point shots were contested, how many shots
were period?
Speaker 3 (06:44):
I mean, were there how many shots?
Speaker 4 (06:46):
How many Clipper looks were opened last night from anywhere
on the floor. Forgetting about the three point shot. You know,
as I said before, you use the free throw line
to your advantage, and that's what the Clippers did. I mean,
I'd like to say, you know again, this Rockets team,
at least since Emay has taken over, it's not been
afraid of playing on the road. I mean the first
year when the team with forty one and forty one,
(07:06):
it was a really good team in home and laws
in a road. But that was a young basketball team
trying to get through. It's whatever it was going to be.
Last year, we didn't care about going on the road.
We won big games, one games in Boston, one games
in New York. I mean, this is a team that
just won a game earlier this week in Denver or whatever. Wife,
I'm losing track of where I am these days.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
Yes, Denver.
Speaker 5 (07:24):
Yeah, they're only winning their last four games. How do
you beat Denver on the road and you lose to
the Clippers, Kings and Pelicans there?
Speaker 4 (07:35):
It makes absolutely And by the way, you went over
time with Denver. That's true in that loss the first trip. Yeah,
I don't mean a heavy sock. That's not good radio.
I mean, I'm okay, but I'm a lot of heavy
science sports every I don't know what to do.
Speaker 6 (07:55):
Well.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
You just hope they get better, man, I don't think
there's much you can do, it's true, But how about
what did you think about autping and Katie not playing
the fourth quarter last night? Message being sent or flag
being raised or a.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Little bit of both. What do you think both?
Speaker 4 (08:13):
I mean, maybe that could be. It is.
Speaker 5 (08:15):
Maybe they're just road weary. I mean we talked with
the coach like about this when the trip started, about
preparing the guys for for such a long trip, making
sure they're taking care of their bodies and all that stuff.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
Just to let you know, I've gained about four pounds
on this trip so far. Oh that's it. That's good.
I was gonna say five, but out it sounds four
sounds a lot less than five. For some reason, mixing
a salad battie. Come on, well, I had to do
every meal. I had fruit this morning. I oh, I
sit away from the omelets and hash browns and toast today.
Speaker 5 (08:49):
You know what breakfast is, sneaky, man. You can go
real bad at breakfast. You get the freer toast and
the omelets and the greasy hash browns and the bacon going.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
I mean, imagine having pancakes and eggs every morning. That's
not the way God said have breakfast. So yesterday I had,
I had an omelet made and brought to the room,
which I don't want to talk about the cost, and
that that's a different issue for a different time. That I.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
Well, I've got those what do you tip?
Speaker 4 (09:19):
And then I went with like a muffin at lunch time,
and then I had a regular dinner at the arena.
So but yeah, it's uh, I worry about the costs.
I'm just Matt. I'm thinking to myself, Matt, make better decisions.
But then all but you know, I can't put my
I can't put my food items on on Instagram post
if I don't if I make bad if I make
good food decision.
Speaker 5 (09:41):
Yeah, they want to see eggs, Benedicts. Look at this healthy,
leafy green salad. You're not getting any likes. Got to
post barbecue. Oh my god, that's exactly right. By the way,
my wife got barbecue for the kids. And then tonight
for Christmas Eve dinner. Oh really Yeah. I can't say
what the name of it is because I forgot, but
it parent was. She waited over an hour for it,
(10:01):
so I thought you'd be pleased about it.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
Oh, okay, guess well I'm not pleased. Means she's going to
a quality place. Man, that's true, all right. On the
radio show today, Eddie Nude, Yes, I thought a director
at University Houston's gonna stop by at eleven o'clock.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
We'll talk to him about Cougar's in the Texas Bowl.
Speaker 4 (10:15):
He is on the Texas Bowl committee, so I'm kind
of curious about how that worked out, especially when the
Cougar's got the invite. We have Shut Your Ball mass
Up at eleven thirty today? Are we doing a more
friendly edition of Shut Your Ball mass Up? How do
we decide on this? You can choose to be naughty
or nice? All right?
Speaker 5 (10:31):
I have to attack somebody who I was playing blackjack with,
so you'll be happy about that.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
Oh now is it not playing properly? Or did something
else happen besides that? Don't get away too much. You
just tune in eleven thirty. That includes all of you Houston. Hey,
ten o'clockers. You know I'm thinking about you guys today.
We love you, We really love you. Wish there are
(10:59):
more of you, but I love you. Matter of fact.
What you all need to do this year is tell
one hundred people about the ten o'clock hour.
Speaker 5 (11:08):
Yeah, you know what, well about the whole show. Tell
a friend, that's that's our career, our Christmas president from you.
Tell a friend about the show.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
Yeah, it's a free gift.
Speaker 5 (11:16):
You can listen together, you can bond over it. Hey,
did you hear what Matt said? Did you have the
latest thing in the latest Matt Terrible Food opinion?
Speaker 3 (11:22):
M h, I mean I'll accept that fromote the show.
That's fine.
Speaker 4 (11:27):
Email Doc at twelve thirty Rossia of the Rotten Five
at twelve fifty today, wink wink one o'clock, doctor roto.
Let me tell you about our fantasy football championship. Not
that any of you care, but who cares? The Christmas Eve?
So you know. ESPN does its preview right, yes, and
how you're going to do which is often wrong. It
(11:49):
is the scoring numbers. I am projected to score one
hundred and twenty three point zero eight mm hm. My
opponent projected to score one twenty three point to one.
I can't, I don't. I don't know if I can
handle losing by point one three for a championship. It's
(12:11):
not gonna play out like that. If I'm gonna lose
ROSSI I want to lose by like nine, ten to
eleven points.
Speaker 5 (12:16):
See, you got Gibbs. Minnesota is a tough matchup. Oh,
Drake May against the Jets, you're chilling. Yeah, But against
Tampa Bay that's gonna be forty t against Arizona, that's good.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
Is a Flowers Goddard. I think Buffalo gives up tight
end points. Now I'm putting the Chargers defense in against
the Texans. What's your other choice? My other choice is
I could go Packers against Baltimore. Is Lamar Jackson playing,
he had a back injury. I don't know you might
want to do that because it might be Snoop Untley
(12:49):
season over there. Let me tell you something right now,
I guess why we have Rodo on this week. I'm
gonna be brutally honest with y'all. I'm asking Rodo about
five minutes of questions.
Speaker 5 (12:57):
Oh oh, this got your opponent starting debo? Oh you're fine?
Are you sure?
Speaker 4 (13:03):
Don't you got?
Speaker 3 (13:04):
Don't don't give me false hope.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
Jonn Chase Brown, that's gonna be tough.
Speaker 5 (13:08):
See and Mike Evans has been going off a j
Brown is dud DAK is good DAK against the worst
past years.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
See, I know that's why KP for realistic talking. Oh okay, honestly,
this is about a toss up.
Speaker 5 (13:23):
You have the stronger up and down roster, but Dak,
we have six point touchdowns. Some somebody in their commissioner,
in their infinite wisdom, randomly changes to six points. I
don't want to name any names, so you you could
be at a deficit. DAK could easily drop forty.
Speaker 4 (13:37):
All right, Rockets talk today, Texans Chargers talk for Saturday. Uh,
we have a major college that their nil fund ran out,
and the guy and the player is like, I'm leaving
the school and I'm.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
Gonna suit you, but but the money you owe me.
Speaker 4 (13:55):
I'm surprised we've not heard more, frankly more about this
fan behavior. One team says the fan was fine. The
NFL says, we're gonna take a look at this. Got
a lot to get to you. Ten o'clockers, come on
and join us at seven one three, two, one two, five, seven, Anty.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
We're here all the way till two o'clock. We're actually
working today.
Speaker 4 (14:13):
Eighteen not so much.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
Seven one three. I know we're going to Chris.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
We're doing four full hours? How many are they doing?
Speaker 3 (14:22):
Zero?
Speaker 4 (14:24):
But I cannot give WEX crap because I'm going to
I'm leaving for New York next Wednesday, and he's gonna
do a couple of hours at the show.
Speaker 5 (14:31):
Okay, but Adam Plant's fair game. Oh my god, yes,
all right, good, yeah, it's easy.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
Seven one three two one two five seven Auntie. And oh,
by the way, we have to attack Craig Ackerman for
a food take. As a matter of fact, we'll do
that next here on the program. Seven one three two
one two five seven. Auntie, Come on ten o'clockers, I
want to hear from you. Seven one three two one
two five seven Nuntie. And I guess who this is
(15:02):
because I don't know. If I know for sure, I
know the song, I would not have guessed the artist,
but it's in front of my eyes, so I know.
Speaker 3 (15:12):
Kelly Clarkson only this guy.
Speaker 4 (15:14):
Did they get it right?
Speaker 7 (15:14):
Yes?
Speaker 8 (15:15):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (15:15):
Now, So if you're going to listen to Christ's music,
which for me is today and tomorrow only and that's it,
are you gonna want to go with the new artists
that are doing it to give you the uptempo version
of songs or do you want to go with traditional
old school bing Crosby stuff like that.
Speaker 5 (15:35):
I think a mix is good Number one. Number two.
I am certainly partial.
Speaker 4 (15:39):
To the old school, especially the old soul stuff. Yeah,
and that King Cole if you will mm hmmm, Jackson five,
Aretha Franklin Lamar's Christmas album coming out.
Speaker 5 (15:54):
I don't know that he's going to make a Christmas album.
He's not really that kind of artist.
Speaker 4 (15:58):
But if he did, it would be amazing, and it
would it would melt, and it would melt everybody's hurt.
I just don't know. He's not that kind of guy.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
All Right, We had a lot to get to.
Speaker 4 (16:08):
Okay, a couple things I need a ruling, Okay, Just
in general, Christmas sweaters, Yes, my take is agree or disagree.
If you're wearing a Christmas sweater, you are just trying
to seek attention. They look atrocious. You want people to
(16:30):
pay attention to you. You want people to say, hey, look,
how dorky look isn't this funny? No, we're not laughing
with you. We are directly laughing at you. And I
don't want to be laughed at with sure at No, So.
Speaker 5 (16:44):
I mean I think when it first came back, it
was funny, and maybe now they've kind of jumped the shark. Yeah,
because I would say, I don't even know, what would
you say, maybe ten years ago somewhere around there, maybe
seven eight years ago, the the the ugly Christmas sweater
came back in vogue because in the eighties everyone was
unironically wearing terrible, ugly Christmas sweaters because that's just what
(17:06):
we did.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
Right. The reason why I brought this up is because
Jeff Saturday is on Get Up Right Now or whatever
the show is on. I'm watching in ESPN, and he's
got this Grinch sweater on that He's not doing it
because he wants to be a fashion you see, He's
doing it because he looks, hey, look at.
Speaker 5 (17:20):
Me, I mean, or I mean maybe he just thinks
it's funny where it's good. I mean, I think Gordy's
got a ed ojer On one that I find funny.
Gordy in the studio today, that's impressive. Oh I didn't
see him today, but no, I don't think so. And
being the office till he was, I think I don't
think Matt. It's Christmas Eve, Matt, we're working. I know
we are. I think we're the ones. I mean we're
(17:44):
off the Giant. Well, we're off the regular show tomorrow
and Friday. You and I are work for Jonathan producing
our show today.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
Oh my gosh, the young man needs a Christmas bonus.
Well he's gonna get some money when I get back
to town. Don't worry. Same all right.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
Second ruling, And I don't know if you've caught this
or not, but.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
On the TV broadcast they were talking about, you know,
Craig's got a worse palth than I do.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
There's no ifans or about somebody that's true.
Speaker 4 (18:13):
Okay, doesn't mean yours is good, but Craigs is worse. Yeah,
I want we're not trying to play Matt's good because
I'm who I am.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
I'm gonna I'm gonna stay true to who I am.
I'm gonna be a fraud. That's good Matt to I
know him self be true.
Speaker 6 (18:26):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (18:27):
So we were talking today about types of dressings he likes.
He does not like ranch, He does not like blue cheese,
He does not like creamy Italian. He likes two different
types of dressing. One is a vinaigrette in his preferred,
which we've been and we've been traveling together for ten
years now. His preferred type of dressing is honey mustard. Well,
(18:47):
we're at Dinnity the other night and Vanessa's telling Craig,
you know, there's mayonnaise in honey mustard. He flipped the
f out. So now he said he's done with honey mustard.
Oh my gosh. I told him. I said, Craig, you've
(19:09):
loved honey mustard like his whole life, your whole life.
That is one of your two choices of salad dressing.
If you like it, don't worry about it, just eat it.
For instance, I told him one time I had dinner
with a former colleague of ours, rants Arline, and we
had spiced hot pimento cheese. I'm not a pimento cheese guy,
(19:33):
uh huh. But it was perade, it was heated, it
had pita chips, and I enjoyed it. So I'm not
eating pimento cheese on the regular, but for the dish
that I had it on, it was quite delicious. I
didn't go, oh my god, I meaning pimento cheese. I've
got to stop this now. It was a horrific. He
was like, I'm done with it. I'm like, done with it.
You've been eating in all your life? Why you worried
(19:55):
about it? So I just want to give you an
example that if you think my palette's bad, there are
many worse than mine. What was his response, I don't
like Mannai's okay, but he that is interesting.
Speaker 5 (20:09):
You know what the kids call that mental gymnastics. You
were jumping through all these hoops to convince yourself.
Speaker 4 (20:15):
What a what? I'm not a kid. I'm just calling
it stupidity, damn dressing. And Craig is probably listening right now.
He flew the right eye back from Los Angeles last time.
Speaker 5 (20:27):
This car right now, Craig, Craig, if you're listening, go
ahead and google cognitive Dissonance's word.
Speaker 4 (20:35):
How how do you eat something your whole life? And
then that is interesting to me? You know what, Maybe
it's I was dumbfound about it that I honestly am not.
I've seen behavior like that before, where you find out
(20:58):
something is you know, I don't know, uh made somewhere
you didn't think I thought this was made in America?
And who's made in China? And I don't like it anymore?
Or whatever, right.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
I mean, I don't like olives.
Speaker 4 (21:12):
But if there was something that I had a dish
and I liked and I ate it, and I was like, oh,
this is really good. It's adding flavor and texture to it,
then I would probably continue to eat it. I wouldn't.
Speaker 3 (21:19):
I wouldn't buyas it because I didn't like something.
Speaker 4 (21:21):
Generally speak, I just these are the things we do
when the Rockets go one and four.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
In a road trip.
Speaker 5 (21:26):
Ross Well, I mean we can get full breakdown of
the game if you want.
Speaker 4 (21:30):
M Well, that's the email DOKA in two hours. How
cranky's he going to be one to ten? I mean
he's never gonna like, he's never jo deal with us.
He's normally around a five. I think he's gonna be
a seven mm.
Speaker 6 (21:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
To his credit, and I'll give you.
Speaker 4 (21:50):
I said, hey, do you you know because his son
is here with him, and I said, hey, do you
want to take a week off because we've taken some
weeks off before when during holidays? Know what time you
want to do it? I think, Okay, So massive credit
to him. That's why I have so much respect for
him as a basketball coach. I ten thirty here on
the Matt Thomas Show with Ross seven one three two,
(22:10):
one two five seven ninety If you want to chime
in seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven anti. Uh,
we are playing all your Christmas hits today. We're talking
honey Mustard. We're talking about the Rockets one in four
road trip so far. After losing last night with the Clippers,
we got the Texans against the Chargers Saturday. We've got
a quagmire here in southern California which people are losing
(22:31):
their minds over. And uh, we have a departure, a
loss in the world of a Houston News that we
will obviously get to as well, plus fan behavior conversation
piece and uh we got any nooniez. I thought our
director at you of eighth joining us in a one
half hour seven one three two one two five seven
(22:52):
anti seven one three two one two five seven ninety
are in Lost Angeles.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
Ross is back in Houston. We will say this multiple times.
Speaker 4 (23:05):
Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Please spend time with your family
and friends. Please wish the Rockets something but the very
best tomorrow night against the Lakers, and then we come
home in the Cleveland Cavaliers wait for us on Saturday night. Ross,
I gotta pull a question up. You wear ugly Christmas sweaters?
The answers are you bet you?
Speaker 3 (23:26):
Or all hell?
Speaker 8 (23:26):
Now?
Speaker 4 (23:27):
So you can put your vote in there if you want.
I mean, I don't think I own any I've worn.
One time, we lived in Minneapolis and my wife and
I both wore ugly sweaters and we want a combo contest.
Oh nice, it was an ugly sweater contest. Yeah it was.
It was atrocious. What year was that?
Speaker 3 (23:50):
You know what?
Speaker 4 (23:50):
I bet I could find the photo of me two
thousand and eight? Maybe, okay, so maybe?
Speaker 3 (23:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (23:55):
The ugly sweaters have come back longer than I thought.
So here's the pole question. All right, any nunya is
going to join us in twenty minutes, you may join
us right now. It's seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five
seven Annie. Brent's in the galleria on the Matt Thomas
Joe Ross. Happy holidays, Brent. What's going on? Not much?
Speaker 9 (24:16):
M Tian Ross, thank you for taking my car. I
just wanted to say real quick, no to the ugly
Christmas sweaters. It's just not for me anybody else, I
really don't care. But no to that greatest Christmas album
of all time, and it's so good it's haunting. Johnny
Matthis nineteen fifty eight, Absolutely incredible. My grandmother used to
(24:37):
play it religiously during this time of year, and greatest
Christmas moved all the time, die hard forget about it
all right, Hey, hang.
Speaker 4 (24:46):
Up on this guy killing Brent.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
Brent. We'll have a little talk letter Brent. That finish
your points, all right.
Speaker 9 (24:54):
As far as the Texans are concerned, the defense is
starting to show cracks, and the offense well, we obviously
know the issues that they have, so they don't have
any hope going to the playoffs, though maybe win a
division round game or or a wild card game and
then probably losing Division round like they always do. The Rockets,
I've had more WTF moments over the past five games,
(25:17):
and I think I've had in a long time. And
the reason being when you bring in the acquisition that
they brought in, the expectation and Ad said this the
other night in an interview, are super high. So even
though they're not the champs, they're gonna get every other
team's best every single night. And blowing leaves that just
can't happen, but hopefully they'll get it figured out. And
(25:39):
then last but not a couple of things that blasts
at least Mary Christmas to you guys. And then I'm
a recovering alcoholic and drug addict and this time of
the year can be really heavy for a lot of people.
And I just want to let everybody know out there
that if you or if you know that somebody's struggling
to reach out to them, or if you're struggling yourself,
there is a way out there are people that you
(26:00):
can reach out to in this time of year to
help you get through that time. So hopefully everybody has
a blessing safe holiday. And thank you for taking my call.
Speaker 3 (26:09):
Thank you very much.
Speaker 4 (26:10):
Thanks truer A Ward has never spoken thank you very
much for that. Keep bat baby, one day at a time.
Except Diehard? When did this come into vogue? Speaking of
when things came into vogue? Okay, the easiest way to
defend this is, would you put several children in front
(26:37):
of a television or a movie theater age between eight
and thirteen years old. Would you put die Hard in
front of their eyes during Christmas time? To say, hey, everybody,
let's sit back, have some cocoa, some eggnog, maybe some
Christmas cookies, and watch something to celebrate the holiday season.
You would, under no circumstance put Diehard in that mix.
(27:01):
You just wouldn't.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
It ain't a Christmas movie period. End of story.
Speaker 5 (27:10):
AI says it became a prominent phenomenon around two thousand
and seven. Yeah, it was released in July, and then
the count The what about is a argument for these
people is well, what about Miracle on thirty four Street?
That was in nineteen forty seven, because like, the studio
head didn't like the movie, so he released it later.
Every other Christmas movie came out around Christmas time, Home Alone,
(27:34):
Chris's Vacation, Elf, whatever we can think of, Lane's Tamobile.
Speaker 4 (27:39):
It's not a Christmas movie.
Speaker 5 (27:41):
And I guess you know what, I think they're just
trolling us, Matt, like they like that we get all
riled up about it. So that's part of it. It's
a troll thing. It's to be smart. It's like it's
kind of like the ugly sweater thing, like, yeah, we
want a little bit of attention.
Speaker 4 (27:55):
We're gonna call this a Christmas movie. So it is
what it is. But yes, it is not a Christmas movie.
I'm with you, Matt. This is one of the one
of the great debates we actually agree on. Yeah, and
we've been talking about this for fifteen years. Yeah, and
we never can change somebody's mind about this. Well, can
they ever change our mind about it?
Speaker 9 (28:14):
Now?
Speaker 4 (28:14):
They know, deep down, they know, they know.
Speaker 5 (28:17):
It's like it's like when Aggie Fans tries to call
Texas a little brother and talk about how they're the
heritage brand of texts.
Speaker 4 (28:24):
Deep down, deep with the deep, deep down they know.
Speaker 7 (28:28):
Yeah, they know.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
Again, think about this.
Speaker 4 (28:32):
Everybody's in their pjs, everybody's getting ready to go to
bed in a couple of hours and wake up to
Santa Claus. You're gonna sit, You're gonna put some music
out of the background. You're gonna put Diehard on. I
don't think so Now I'm alone, Yes, home alone?
Speaker 3 (28:49):
Two? Sure, come alone?
Speaker 8 (28:51):
Three?
Speaker 4 (28:51):
Probably not? Probably not. I went straight to DVD or
the kids will say straight to the VCR.
Speaker 8 (28:57):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (28:57):
Well.
Speaker 5 (28:57):
The one counter argument to that would be Bad Sad
is a Christmas movie. But and you're not gonna put
that when the kids are I love Bad Soanda By
the way, that's my top five.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
I've never seen it. What oh, Matt.
Speaker 5 (29:09):
It is unabashedly raunchy, and I mean crosses every line
you can think of that perfect I know that's what
I'm saying. You would love it. Every line you can
think of to cross. It crosses with a raunchy humor.
Speaker 4 (29:25):
Humor. But I don't care. You're you're burnt up the
distribution dates. I don't care when movies get out. It's
the it's the movie, it's it's the theme, it's the
it's a summer blockbuster, it's a summer action blockbuster. No,
but yeah, go ahead. And it's purely coincidental.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (29:41):
It's that it's during Christmas time. You could have all
that stuff happening on July nineteenth.
Speaker 7 (29:48):
Period.
Speaker 4 (29:53):
Done with this.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
Let me tell you about let me tell you about
the things I'm going to my grave with. Okay, go ahead.
Speaker 4 (30:02):
One. The mcgrib is America is Sam Oh God, Diehard
is on a Christmas movie. In three, Texas's biggest rival
is A and M. I'm going with that to my
grave ten forty five. On Sports Talk seven ninety Matt
Ross and Jonathan with you seven one three two one
two five seven ninety seven one three two one two
(30:25):
five seventy. You just the Spurs beat the Thunder by
twenty points last night. This good and bad. The Thunder rebeatable,
but the Spurs are really good. So and then they're
bit stealing off of the Minnesota Vikings at the end
of the game. Do you see that? Oh yes, I did?
We go? You know what, we got to come out
for San Antonio for this. We're doing it next on
(30:47):
seven ninety wearing a Christmas sweater has a fifty four
to forty six lead, which I'm stunned by.
Speaker 3 (30:58):
That's on the Twitter folk question.
Speaker 4 (31:00):
That's sports MT. I have some bad news about the
Twitter pole. I put out what is yours is Diehard
a Christmas movie, and it's fifty three forty seven right now.
Speaker 3 (31:18):
Yes, I'm going to vote. You know, I'm going to
vote on.
Speaker 5 (31:22):
Go vote from the seven ninety account. You should we
need all that for it's my vote. I mean, I
don't get to vote on my poll. It's just I'm
just taking my vote.
Speaker 4 (31:29):
We're not going to give up on this.
Speaker 5 (31:30):
We're going to get By the way, I just came
up with a great point, great point Ross.
Speaker 4 (31:33):
I'm very humble too. There.
Speaker 5 (31:35):
Die Hard with a Vengeance is a Diehard sequel and
it does not mention Christmas. What Home Alone three, or I imagine,
is around Christmas?
Speaker 6 (31:43):
Right?
Speaker 4 (31:43):
Home Alone two is about Christmas. Where will you have
a sequel of a Christmas movie that doesn't surround around Christmas? Never?
Speaker 3 (31:50):
Never, just a random day?
Speaker 9 (31:58):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (31:59):
Okay?
Speaker 4 (32:00):
Quick?
Speaker 3 (32:00):
Rest in peace, Neil Frank.
Speaker 4 (32:02):
If there's anybody that's living in Houston for any length
of time, especially what twenty twenty five years ago? Yeah,
he passed away this morning at the age of ninety four.
Oh wow, may he rest? I mean he was one
of the goats.
Speaker 3 (32:14):
One of the all time goats.
Speaker 4 (32:17):
He was working for the National Hurricane Center, and then
Channel eleven would put him on a lot in the eighties,
just say hey, mister Frank, I know you live in Miami.
Can you help us out here in Houston? And Channel
eleven as soon as hurricanes passed, said hey, why don't
you come working in Houston as a weather guy five six,
and ten. We'll give you a lot of money and
make you a star. And he was beloved. He I
cannot find anybody that said a bad word about doctor
(32:39):
Neil Frank, and he was the guy that you turned
on when absolutely fan. So one of the all time legends.
Or may he rest in peace, doctor Neil Frank Patt.
We've had a tough year. We lost to Dave Ward two,
I mean two iconic newspeople in our Houston area. No,
(33:00):
it's up to sixty sixty one to thirty nine.
Speaker 3 (33:02):
Don't worry.
Speaker 4 (33:03):
I'm gonna go vote here in just a minute.
Speaker 3 (33:05):
All right.
Speaker 4 (33:06):
So the Spurs last night beat the Thunder for the
second time. Then after the game victor Winbinyama is like, hey,
let's start this new tradition. I have this drum at
mid court and I want you to spread your hands
out and I want you to clap. I want Have
you seen the video of this?
Speaker 5 (33:26):
By the way, I watched so it was sent to
me by I think you. I watched like a few
seconds of it, and I was so disgusted I turned
it off.
Speaker 4 (33:36):
First of all, look, when you do something for the
first time, it's going to it's going to take a
walk for people to catch on to something. But it
was he explained it awkwardly. The fans couldn't figure it out.
And it's a blatant ripoff of what they do in Minnesota,
where by the way they do the skull properly, they
do do the hands at the same.
Speaker 5 (33:57):
Time the skull clap, and then it's also a Breton
I mean, a rip off of Sacramento lighting the beam.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
Correct, everybody's ripping everybody off, Like people still on the
radio shows in this marketplace still our stuff all the time,
and we're just true. That's true. We're acclimated to that.
I mean, we are the heritage show at Houston Sports Radio, Matt,
that is correct. So they're gonna do that now in
San Antonio. It's gonna piss me off because now everybody
(34:25):
that I follow or are on the for you tab,
when the Spurs win a home game, they're gonna do this.
And then if the Rockets lose to San Antonio in
San Antonio, I'm going to see it personally, and that
the Rockets play the Spurs in the playoffs series and
SANTURNI wins a game in Santoronio.
Speaker 3 (34:41):
I've got to watch that again.
Speaker 5 (34:44):
Well, it's very easy beat them, everybody in the NBA.
Speaker 3 (34:50):
Let's beat the Spurs. Go Spurs, go down.
Speaker 4 (34:55):
Let me tell you something I can live with a thunder,
I can live with I can even live with the Lakers.
I can live in Minnesota. I cannot have San Antonio
better than the Rocket. I know it's for mental health stake.
Speaker 5 (35:05):
This can't happen, especially the way Wimby reacted when he
wasn't going to be a rocket.
Speaker 4 (35:09):
Oh yes, how long are they going to keep training
wheels on him? By the way, uh, if I'm them
the rest of the season, the rest of his career, well,
I mean he's played minutes, Yeah, not starting and playing
about twenty five minutes a game. Yeah, I would do capting.
(35:31):
I would do it. I mean he had then last year.
You can't argue with the results. And the reality is
guys north of seven feet are injury prone.
Speaker 3 (35:42):
Every single one of them are. Yes, every single one
of them are.
Speaker 4 (35:46):
Who's been there? Real quick, before we get to Eddie
Nuonis Rossie, who's the healthiest seven footer ever to play
in the NBA? Is a Kareem.
Speaker 5 (35:53):
Kareem was about Robert How tall was Robert Parrish? Big
Chief played a ton of games, and yeah.
Speaker 4 (35:59):
Big Chief was big. But think about the seven footers
that we've talked about in the last twenty five years.
Sampson injury prone Yao Ming indury prone, Sean Bradley injury.
Speaker 5 (36:11):
Yeah, like well like over seven two ish. Robert Parrish
was seven to one as I look it up, Kareem,
I believe was like seven two or three, right, seven
to two, he's seven two issues.
Speaker 4 (36:22):
I want to say we're more towards the end of
his career. I'm saying no, he only healthy for the prime.
He played seventy four games in nineteen eighty nine is
last year. Oh my listen, this is the game's played
his last over year, seventy four, eighty seventy eight, seventy nine,
seventy nine, eighty seventy like he was playing. He was
the healthiest seven foot two north Yeah, in the history
(36:42):
of the NBA. Bill Walton foot problems, Yeah, Ming foot problems.
A Sheen's the Beat skill problems. Sheme the Beat never
should have been drafted, seemed to beat. Should be serving
me my coffee at Starbucks. By the way, you see, Louisville,
they beat They won the book Rattan Bowl yesterday and
(37:03):
the trophy had beans in it and they're eating it
out of it.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
Oh, it's disgusting and.
Speaker 5 (37:06):
I mean they get everybody's trying. Everybody's everybody's copying the
pop Tarts bowl, right, it's a bit. It was the
Mayo Bowl, I guess was the original. They were the
dunking Mayo on everyone. Yes, look, you got to get
your fifteen seconds. If you're spending all this money, well,
I mean.
Speaker 3 (37:19):
They're getting more.
Speaker 4 (37:20):
Who would have even we have ever brought the book
a Rattan Bowl under any circumstance.
Speaker 5 (37:24):
He used to be fifteen minutes of fame, but now
I'm calling it fifteen seconds.
Speaker 4 (37:27):
All right, let's talk to Eddie. Noony is next ten
to fifty eight. It is the Matt Thomas Show with
Ross Ross, you I believe it or not. Today while
I talked to Eddie, is that I'm working on the
Rotten five. All the rot on the Rockets lunch pad.
Speaker 1 (37:40):
Is The Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
Speaker 4 (37:46):
It's eleven oh two on Sports SOX seven oni The
Matt Thomas Show with Ross. I'm here in Los Angeles
last night. The Rockets lost, and the Clippers will take
on the Lakers on Christmas Day, and then two days
after that it'll be the tech Sis Bowl inside Nergy
Stadium for an eight fifteen kick and to join us
to talk about that and among other things, is the
(38:07):
athletic director of the University Houston, Eddie nuniez Eddie, thanks
for joining us this morning. The number one most important
question is Diehard a Christmas movie? Yes?
Speaker 6 (38:19):
Or no?
Speaker 8 (38:21):
I would probably lean on not, but I know a
lot of people do because the day came out and
everything else. I'm more of the classics, you know, give
me a good Christmas story or something like that. But
I am a little this point. I thought you would
at least have some Christmas music leading into it, or
some holiday music something you know, going on.
Speaker 3 (38:39):
Oh, don't worry, We're playing it all year, all so long.
Speaker 4 (38:42):
So as soon as you hang up, listen to the
show between now and two o'clock, we'll take care of it.
Speaker 6 (38:46):
Hey, I will, I will.
Speaker 4 (38:48):
Hey. First of all, I'm so I had Willing on
the show yesterday and I just love that man. And look,
I've been very fortunate with my relationship with the University
of Houston as a student, as an aluments of broadcaster
to be around some great coach is I don't know
what to say in the words, what a truly classy
person he is? He can coach, he can recruit, He
(39:09):
plays by the rules when the rules constantly change. He
talked about yesterday that all the kids, a lot of
the kids are from Texas and Louisiana, and you're willing
as it ten or fifteen years ago, we couldn't get
kids from Texas and Louisiana because the facilities were not
up to speed, and the product was not good and
the conference wasn't great. And so it's all coming full
(39:30):
circle now. It's a great time to be a Houston
Cougar fan, especially with coach Fritz running things.
Speaker 8 (39:36):
Yeah. No, you hit the nail on the head. I mean,
he's someone who, first of all, has seen it at
so many different levels. But he understands the importance of Texas,
having spent a lot of his career here in the
state of Texas. He understands the importance the caliber of athletes.
And if we're able, which he is, to be able
to put all this together with those young men, we
(39:58):
can have something special. And you say, to right, it's alignment.
It's aligning everything perfectly, because for us to be able
to do it, you know, being in the Big twelve
and having success and everything else, we know we can win,
and we can win at a high level here, but
you need the right leader and to have somebody who's
who's not just done it at every level in one
but understands that this is bigger than and just football.
(40:21):
This is bigger than everything else. It's about the city
and everything else. It resonates across the board with all
our sports.
Speaker 4 (40:27):
Eddie, you are on the Texas Bowl Committee and I
don't know if that was kind of a job that
you got because they asked you to or as part
of beer I thought a director responsibilities. But how intriguing
was that process? Did you have to take yourself out
of some things because of the fact that the Cougars
were trying to figure out which ball game to go to?
Speaker 8 (40:45):
So yeah, you know, it's it's it's an unusual process.
I was part of the New Mexico Bowl when I
was in at the University of New Mexico and a
little bit different than this one. This one a little
bit more hands on and you're you're involved in understanding
all the details, how the teams are selected and everything else.
So yeah, I had to listen to the good, the bad, end,
the ugly. Why you know, we would possibly not be
(41:07):
someone that they would consider as strong as some others
and everything else, and you have to sit there and
you have to bite your tongue and you have to understand.
And sometimes we put ourselves in a position where those
those those realities are true. But on the other side,
it's I also know what we can bring to the table.
So I did have an opportunity to present what I
felt was important for the group to know. And as
(41:28):
I said before, we wanted to stay in the state
of Texas, and we knew that either that possibly going
to San Antonio or here, and if the possibility presented
itself here, we were going to be not just all in.
We wanted that chance to be able to have our
fans come and experience the holidays together with us, and
so interesting experience. I was able to say what I
(41:50):
needed to say, And I'm just glad for David Fletcher
and the whole the whole board, everybody just giving us
a chance.
Speaker 4 (41:58):
Well, I was nice to see that the Bowl ticket
alignment was sold very very quickly. Tickets are still on
sale for the game because they want to fill as
many seats up as possible. Yeah, what was it like
Eddie to determine the opponent on that because obviously you're
trying to sell the University of Houston, but the SEC
connection and trying to figure out, Okay, does LSU want
to come back to Houston And oh, by the way,
(42:19):
LSU and Houston are going to open up the twenty
seventh season in that same building.
Speaker 8 (42:23):
Yeah, that was discussed, and part of it was, you know,
with the SEC, the way they do their their Bowl appointments,
they basically a point who goes where, and so they
had conversations the SEC within themselves about what teams would
be on the on the possible selection process. When we
saw LSU on there, of course everybody said, we know
(42:45):
they had drawn Well. I had talked to their ad
who's a dear friend, and he and I spoke and
he said, look, if we have the chance to go there,
we're going to go to Our fans love it.
Speaker 6 (42:54):
You know.
Speaker 8 (42:54):
Yes, we play you guys in a year later, you know,
but it's it's well worth it, especially they're transitioning right
now with everything else, and it just really lines up
better for them than anything else. So they were they
were really excited to be a.
Speaker 6 (43:08):
Part of this.
Speaker 8 (43:09):
And as I told them, For me, it's it has
another another layer to it. But I also understand that
we want to make this a sea of red. Like
you said, there's plenty of tickets available. We want all
our fans to keep going to to the Energy to
Texas Bowl website get those tickets. Let's make this a
sea of red. Let's make it loud. Let's show not
(43:31):
just the city of Houston, but America that Cougar football
is back. And it's not just back for this year.
It's back to sustain success for for a long time
to come.
Speaker 4 (43:41):
Any one piece of business, do I need to get
caught up the speed on private equity or on just
let you guys handle that at this.
Speaker 8 (43:48):
Point, Listen, I think one of the biggest one of
the biggest things is a lot of that information that
came out was premature, and like most news are, they
wanted to get it out as soon as possib when
we heard about it. There's a lot of discussions still
having happening. Nothing is right at the finish line. There's
there's different parts of this private equity that may suit
(44:12):
well for us, but it's not that big. Five hundred
million people read about this or that you know, there's
we have to make sure that we put our best,
you know, the best opportunity for our institution first and foremost.
And borrowing money is sounds good at times, but it's
also we're taking or borrowing money. It's alone, and so
(44:34):
we have to understand if that makes sense, if it
works for us. Is other ways, is our companies internally,
I say, internally in our in our city, in our state,
that might have better understanding of who we are and
make it a better opportunity for us. So we are
actively looking at everything with private equity, with all those
investors and everything else because we have to. We have
(44:54):
to do our due diligence. But the one that the
bolt that that was expressed about the conference, accuse me
that that one does have some validity, but it's still
not anywhere close to finish line.
Speaker 4 (45:04):
Last question about that, is it going to be possible
to get sixteen schools on the same page when it
comes to private equity.
Speaker 8 (45:13):
Depends on what you're asking for. Not every school needs
the loan. Not every school can do that. Our state
has different requirements when it comes to taking loans, and
so I don't see it working perfectly. That's what you
saw with the Big ten and so what happened when
the first iteration of ours? So, I would say the
(45:33):
likelihood of making one of those things truly possible makes
it really hard because you're dealing with private schools, state schools,
different states. There's a lot of factors that go into it.
We all want the ability to generate more revenue to
help us be great, but it takes a little time.
Cannot before I forget. I'd love to make sure our
fans know. December twenty sixth Tom's Watch Bar Downtown, we're
(45:56):
taking over the Tom's Watch Bar. Come on down and
have a cougar event there. We want all our fans
to come out. It's gonna be a five to thirty.
And then on the twenty seventh, the day of the game,
of course, we have a tailgate there starting at four
thirty in the Blue Lot. Come on out. Let's make
sure that we can do it right for our kugs.
But more than anything else, thank you for this past year.
(46:19):
I want to wish everybody a wonderful holidays and look
forward to seeing them at the Bowl game.
Speaker 4 (46:25):
Yes, go to the game Saturday night. My kids are going.
I bought tickets yesterday as a matter of fact. So
the Thomas f Now, I've got a Rockets game, so
I won't be able to be there, but the Thomas
family's going to be representing, So just go and root
the hell against LSU. I know I used to work there,
but I mean it's easy to make fun times.
Speaker 8 (46:42):
Oh yeah, listen, I love my time there. It was
great for the family and I but there's no love
right now. That's all about the Kugs and let's go
and take care of business, show them who.
Speaker 6 (46:53):
We really are. So I'm all I'm all in.
Speaker 8 (46:54):
Let's make it happen, all right.
Speaker 3 (46:56):
Last question. The basketball squads.
Speaker 4 (46:58):
All they're doing is running around the country beating up
these top twenty five opponents. I love the non conference scheduling.
I know that folks would like to see some more
home games and for Tita Center, but the world of
the college basketball works a little bit differently. And you still,
at the end of the day, are trying to build
your resume for the March madness.
Speaker 8 (47:14):
Yeah, it's part of this new landscape that we're dealing with.
I will tell you that this has also given us
a little bit of light about what we want to
do for the future. Coach Sampson actually mentioned to me
about a week ago that we really want to try
to do more home and homes with some power opponents
at our place. Make it impactful, make it desirable. But
right now, because of the way the nuances are, we
(47:36):
had to take advantage of these games on the road,
and some teams don't want to come here, but I
know he'll have somebody in here and we look.
Speaker 7 (47:43):
Forward to it.
Speaker 8 (47:43):
But it is. It is part of building the resume,
and our guys took care of business against Arkansas and
now we're here getting ready for We've got one more
game before conference and hope to see everybody there. Also
on the twenty eighth the Ftida Center.
Speaker 3 (48:00):
EDDI, happy holidays you and your family.
Speaker 4 (48:01):
Thank you for the time in the best of luck
on Saturday against those Tigers.
Speaker 6 (48:05):
Sounds great.
Speaker 4 (48:05):
Thank you, you got it. Eddie Nunez, vice President inter
Collegiate Athletics athletic director at the University of Houston, joining
us here on Sports Talk of seven ninety coming up
at the bottom of the hour. It is a I
believe a Christmas friendly.
Speaker 3 (48:17):
Edition of.
Speaker 4 (48:21):
Shut your Bow mess Up. I mean, how about please
be quiet or good tightings to all, we'll figure out
what we're gonna call it. It's eleven thirteen Matt Thomas
Show with Ross. I'm here in Los Angeles seven one
three two one two five seven ninety The Christmas Tree,
the Christmas You know what I was gonna have to
(48:44):
think about? Who's sang this version of it? Ross, I'm
gonna goes, who is Reba McIntyre? Am I right about that?
Speaker 5 (48:52):
It's uh, you know, this is a tricky one. You
know the original that we know, right, Frenda Lee? Right, Yes,
this is also Brent.
Speaker 4 (49:00):
But I think it's it's like older brindle Lee or
something sounds like an older live version maybe, man I
swore that was Reeven McIntyre. Yeah, I think it's older
brindle Lee, like sixty year old brindle Lee.
Speaker 5 (49:15):
Yeah maybe. I mean, it doesn't sound it's definitely not
the original original. Yeah, all right, how's our poll question
coming along? How's your poll question? I don't even want
to look. It doesn't matter. You people are wrong.
Speaker 4 (49:34):
You know.
Speaker 3 (49:34):
It's crazy that very few times you and I are.
Speaker 4 (49:36):
On the same page about something. Yes, all right, I'm
gonna check my question about the Christmas sweaters to take
a look here you were ugly at Christmas sweaters? Oh
look at all hell naw coming in strong sixty two? No,
you bet you're thirty eight percent.
Speaker 5 (49:54):
Why did you go with the the the midwestern?
Speaker 4 (49:58):
You bet you because that's what Midwest Yorks do. Oh
you met it? Air Matt by the way, I went
to my four U tab. Okay, there is a woman. Huh, yeah,
I knew it.
Speaker 7 (50:11):
There we go.
Speaker 4 (50:12):
Well, okay, I'm gonna go with Her name is Karen?
Does that make sense to you? Okay? She there's somebody
shooting a video of her. It's about four minutes long.
I don't want to We can't obviously care because I
don't want to carry four minutes of Karen. But there
is a woman who has two cats that she wants
to put underneath her seat, and Alaska Airlines and not
(50:33):
letting her do it, okay, and she's losing her mind.
I'm telling her to shut her mom ass up. So
I guess, I mean, if you're transporting cats, can't you,
I mean, I guess you'd have to pay to put
them in the cargo section, right, I mean air conditioning
cargo sections. Yeah, you're supposed to.
Speaker 5 (50:53):
Now, everybody's got their emotional support Marmott trying to get
on the planes with that. I think there was somebody
getting on with a with a Great Dane. But this
is the problem if you have like real bad anxiety
problems and you knowed like I understand, but there are
people who this is just how the world works. Unfortunately,
you take advantage you don't have any sort of issues.
(51:13):
But they want to be on the plane with their dogs,
so then they get them the emotional support a help
dog or whatever certification.
Speaker 4 (51:23):
Don't get me started. Well again, I only listened to
about thirty seconds of it, but she's losing her mind
and the gate agent slightly. I'm just wondering if she's
trying to be cheap about it. Where they said, well,
if you want to put your cats in underneath, it'll
be seventy five dollars a pop, which, again, people have money,
but I'm assuming that you're on, if you're on an
airplane going somewhere, that you've got enough money to obviously
pay for yourself and bags and whatnot. So oh is
(51:44):
she moving? She traveling with her cats? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (51:48):
She did.
Speaker 4 (51:49):
The last thing I heard her say is I don't
live here. I live in Oregon. And then I had
to stop because of where was she going the show?
Do you know where they were going? No?
Speaker 3 (51:58):
But the LASTA Airlines is primarily a watt.
Speaker 6 (52:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (52:01):
Yeah, I mean, I've toad when I went to Seattle,
like to Calas Carolines.
Speaker 4 (52:04):
It was nice. It's fine.
Speaker 3 (52:06):
I flew from latis him just go on Alaska one time?
So and that's uh.
Speaker 4 (52:11):
And believe Alaska has service out of Houston, so them
shout out to you Alaska. Yeah, I just said I
flew there to Seattle. Oh okay, I was. I was
thinking you were in Seattle when you did that. It's okay,
all right?
Speaker 3 (52:22):
Uh yeah, that's still a hole.
Speaker 4 (52:27):
It is a hall. That is a long flight, the
Portland flight for us, it takes forever too.
Speaker 8 (52:31):
M M.
Speaker 5 (52:34):
I do want to go back to the Oregon coast,
so maybe if fly from Alaska. It's beautiful out there.
Matthew highly suggested.
Speaker 4 (52:41):
They have a good casino Portland. That yeah, and if
you notice it not for Capita. If there's a If
there is a casino, I'm gonna find it. Yeah, you've
got a problem. And by the way, Hollywood Park, which
is across the street from where the into it dome.
Is they have their own blackjacket's called no bust blackjack.
(53:03):
It is a scam. Oh really, Yes, the goal is
to get to twenty two and not twenty one.
Speaker 7 (53:12):
Huh.
Speaker 4 (53:12):
And you're not competing against the house. You're competing against
people at your table. That's weird. How do they make
money the house? Are they take an anty? Oh my god, No, no, sir,
no sir saying that's what I'm saying. So in theory,
you can never bust. So let's say you've got fourteen,
(53:32):
you're trying to go to twenty two, and you get
a ten, that's twenty four. You're going to lose to
anybody closer at the table to twenty two than you are,
and you're going to beat anybody that's higher than twenty four.
I'm confused. You know what I positi matter? You know,
don't play it, just don't play it. Just don't play it.
That's why I'm not going there. James Incline on seven
(53:55):
and eighty, James, what do you got today?
Speaker 7 (53:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (53:59):
A shout out to in Kentucky's were being in southern
Mississippi last night in the New Orleans Bowl.
Speaker 4 (54:05):
Hilltop person.
Speaker 10 (54:08):
Was that when I had tops on their helmet. I
can't figure that out there, Hilltoppers. I know, I know
whether I had tops on their helmet, but nevertheless they
did win.
Speaker 4 (54:18):
So have you been having some egnog games?
Speaker 1 (54:22):
Uh?
Speaker 10 (54:22):
No, I should. I should have some magnog, but no,
I have it. But it just you know, I was
watching the Rockets game last night and I was going, yeah,
they're doing good. And then I realized they didn't want
the team in red. They were the team in black.
That was kind of part away from the TV and
I'm used to seeing the Rockets and red. I'm thinking, man,
I'm shooting pretty good, and then I realized those are
the Clippers those I'm talking So it was kind of
(54:45):
confusing for me. But I'm kind of old anyhow. Anyhow,
Merry Christmas do you guys? And thanks for putting me
on the.
Speaker 4 (54:50):
Radio, Maggie, y Christmas.
Speaker 7 (54:52):
James.
Speaker 4 (54:52):
I think he's been having a couple of cups of Christmas.
Je Let me tell you that's fightingnog hits about right
about eleven twenty six Central time. Does it not have
a cup of cheer?
Speaker 7 (54:59):
Baby?
Speaker 3 (55:00):
It is like pitch blackout here.
Speaker 4 (55:02):
This is so weird being in California with palm trees
moving up and down.
Speaker 3 (55:08):
Windy?
Speaker 4 (55:09):
Yeah, what are the winds at? What are the mph
is on there? How many would you like to know?
Speaker 3 (55:13):
I'm glad I would let me take a look here.
Speaker 4 (55:15):
That's why I asked. Okay, I'm in technically Beverly Hills,
so let's take a look at the current conditions. Hourly
winds are at the side of the south southeast at
thirteen miles an hour. Oh that's not bad, I would
not think so, Yeah, I would. I agree with you.
(55:36):
But it's like it's like it's seven o'clock at night here,
it's pretty dark. Go look at your go look at
your weather channel app look at the radar. It's a mess.
Speaker 5 (55:47):
You're gonna be fine. You don't leave your hotel in
room anyway, so it's gonna be like a regular trip
for you. Well, I was gonna go for a walk,
but forget that. Oh through that put a ring cor
When do I travel with a raincoat? Why wouldn't you?
Who does that?
Speaker 4 (56:00):
Nobody travels with raincoats unless you're going something knowing it's
going to rain. For sure, I always travel with the raincoat.
That is a lie. You know why because you were
nothing inside of that. You know you are, you know
what you are. You are mister raincoat and nothing else.
I know how you're doing, I know how you roll.
That's not true. If you're going out on the rain,
(56:22):
make sure you're wearing your rubber boots, Mattie. You know
it never rains in southern California. But girl Lin, they
warn you when it pours. Man, it pours and you
have flowers in your hair. M that's if you're only
in You're in San Francisco. Okay, okay, a holiday now.
I don't know how this is gonna work. We could
(56:43):
have zero people calling, we could have seven. Yeah, we'll see.
How was this? How are the freeways? Jonathan getting to
work today? A piece of cake? That's peace mood today.
I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker 3 (56:56):
ROSSI has a sales pit today, the bustling.
Speaker 4 (57:01):
It's good.
Speaker 3 (57:01):
I'm happy to hear that.
Speaker 4 (57:03):
That was nothing answer. I was thinking it was gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (57:05):
But I'm glad you're telling the truth.
Speaker 4 (57:07):
Hey, it's coach.
Speaker 11 (57:10):
Here every Rockets game on Sports Talk seven ninety and
on the iHeartRadio app Home of your Rockets.
Speaker 12 (57:20):
Here, let me again, tap here, let me again, tap
here let again, tamp it here let again, damped deer
Let me again, damped deer let again, tap here let
me again, time here let me again, tamped.
Speaker 4 (57:34):
Seven one two one two five seven ninety. It is
a Christmas Eve edition of Please Be Quiet, Simmer Down,
tell me war I do have time for that. Yeah,
you know what, Colin and tell us everything ball the way.
(57:56):
I've got my text locked and loaded for somebody sends
me a happy merry Christmas text tomorrow and that's it.
What if I send it to you right now? Uh,
you won't get it till tomorrow. What's your name? Don't
give up my number? All right? Uh? So I was
looking forward to hearing your story until I saw your
tweet about the blackjack.
Speaker 3 (58:16):
Yes, so without any further ado.
Speaker 4 (58:19):
Why until I mean that that's a foreshadowing. As they say, ladies, gentlemen,
we present to you at seven one three two one
two five seven iey, please tell me more or shut
your bomb masks up? You you directed, We're going for
the next half hour on this ross. Tell us about
your life and what you'd like to tell someone.
Speaker 7 (58:36):
All right.
Speaker 4 (58:36):
So I'm sitting at the blackjack table. I'm playing three
to two.
Speaker 5 (58:39):
I'm playing third base and I get a twelve versus
a dealer three.
Speaker 6 (58:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (58:44):
Now a lot of people don't know this man, but
you know it's correct.
Speaker 3 (58:47):
Yeah, I do.
Speaker 4 (58:48):
That's a hit for me. Is it's a hit for me,
And the book says it, and mister Blackjack backs that up.
The book says the hit. So I hit. Unfortunately, I
pull like a three or something to give me a fifteen,
and then the deal gets a twenty one. M there's
this older lady had to be at least eighty years old.
(59:09):
She makes the sarcastic comment to actually, my brother.
Speaker 5 (59:13):
Funny enough, she did. I don't think she knew was
my brother, Like I basically something like to the effect of,
I wish I wish he would play right so we
could all win. And so I hear her saying that
I'm like, actually hitting a two.
Speaker 4 (59:27):
Versus a three is correct, And she says, no, it's not. No,
it's not so. And I've been playing blackjack longer than
you've been alive. The oh, no, it's not, No, it's
not And so I pull it up on my phone.
I try to show her on my phone. She won't
look at my phone she's like, nope, I don't need
to see it, don't need to see it's not right.
I was like, all right, whatever, and that's fine. You
know what you think I'm playing wrong? You want to
(59:49):
be combative, It's okay. However, real quick for you finished,
go how many people with the table?
Speaker 13 (59:55):
You?
Speaker 4 (59:55):
Your brother, the blue hair, and what else?
Speaker 13 (59:57):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (59:58):
Probably two other people. I think it's full. What does
it fit? Six?
Speaker 3 (01:00:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:00:01):
It was a full table.
Speaker 3 (01:00:02):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (01:00:03):
There was one person in between us two and then
my brother was to her right. I was on third base.
Speaker 4 (01:00:07):
Okay, So I tell the I tell the girl next
to me, I show her too, and she's like, I
believe you.
Speaker 5 (01:00:13):
I believe you. She was she was keeping calm and
cool or whatever. Nobody was too contentious. But anyways, the
lady's like, no, no, no, I don't need to I
don't need to see it.
Speaker 4 (01:00:19):
I don't need to see it. All right, whatever. Then
literally two hands later, Matthew, she gets a thirteen against
the ten and she stays, oh my god. She goes,
I don't bust. I don't bust, so my I was
gonna let it fly. My brother goes, h, you're supposed
(01:00:42):
to hit that. She goes. I don't bust, So I'm
sitting there saying, if you're gonna criticize me for the
correct strategy, I don't want to hear from you playing
the incorrect strategy. You play your money, I will play
my money. Old lady at the blackjack table, Ain't nobody
(01:01:05):
got time for you being a hypocrite and wrong twice
and making sarcastic comments about me playing correctly. So shut
your mom ass up.
Speaker 12 (01:01:16):
Ain't nobody got tapped ford shit chobum.
Speaker 4 (01:01:19):
Ass up man, Rossie. I don't believe in violence, but
I'd slap the bitch. I'm okay with you playing your
look you want to say on at thirteen you don't
like to bust. You know what it is. What it is,
that's fine. You want to critic it is. It's stupid,
it's wrong, ridiculously bad. You want to hand out your
money to the casino, that's fine, But don't come at
me for playing correctly. You gotta do one or the other.
(01:01:42):
You either got to play it all right or you
gotta play it all wrong. You can't have your cake
and eat it too. Okay, they'll shut yours up. I
do not like what people say ass up. Man, it's
sixteen when they're supposed to it bothers me. But you
have a percentage of winning regardless. So I kind of
(01:02:02):
get it. I don't like it. I do it myself.
People are loss of verse a loss of verse. I
get it. But I can live with that, right, I
can't live with thirteen against the eight thirteen. And she
kept doing doing.
Speaker 5 (01:02:15):
She was staying on fourteens and thirteen's, and she kept going,
I don't bust, I don't bust.
Speaker 4 (01:02:18):
I'll let the dealer bust. And the dealer had twenty
by the way. Yeah, so how did you end your
conversation with her have a nice day?
Speaker 5 (01:02:27):
You tell her go f off. I think she got up.
She lost like all her money and got up, and
she then she went to the sixty five. I was like,
all right, she was betting about fifty bucks a hand
and she was doing two hands. I mean, so I
understand she was upset. She was she was getting crushed.
Speaker 4 (01:02:41):
Yeah, all right, mine's real quick. I get it. You know,
it's a season of giving, and uh, I'd like to
give myself some nice warm weather here in California at
sixty degrees, raining and windy, anybody got time for that,
so bummy, Hey, nobody got time for day. Yeah, I
can tell the other people will shut up brough myself,
but they're just you know, Oh, by the way, guess
(01:03:02):
what all the TV stations are doing full oh yeah,
full full boil. Absolutely yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:03:10):
So John, when you got your uh in your back pocket.
Speaker 4 (01:03:13):
This week, I'll do the more polite side.
Speaker 14 (01:03:17):
Oh good, good, everybody that's on the older side. It's
okay to go to the people that check you out.
You don't have to do a self checkout. You don't
have to do it, all right. That's for pros, that's
for ranked all right. You know what I'm saying. You
don't like get out the way like you get if
you don't know what you're doing, It's okay to go
to the side, put your stuff on the little belt,
(01:03:38):
and you know, have a nice conversation, and nobody got
time for you, especially this holiday season for me in
the way, man, Like, I'm not gonna sit with three
other people waiting in line for a self checkout.
Speaker 4 (01:03:47):
Come on now, I just spy self checkout. I would
rather pay ten percent more for my goods than the
vote than go to the self checkout because first of all,
the QR code or wherever that thing is, it only
scans about forty percent of the time. You wind up
(01:04:09):
either getting overcharged or double charged, and then you have
to go and bag it. And then at the end
of the day the woman has to come over and
help you anyway because they can't you can't find a
particular item. It's it's the biggest waste of time in
the grocery slash Target slash Walmart industry.
Speaker 14 (01:04:27):
That's because you're a casual guy. This is exactly this
is exactly my point. And or you have a lot
of items.
Speaker 4 (01:04:32):
Matt has a family, so I imagine you've got a
lot of stuff too, usually, right Matt, uh uh yeah. Now, granted,
I while I may be anti self scan, I am
pro delivery of the groceries.
Speaker 5 (01:04:44):
I am pro picking up the groceries. I don't like that.
I like to pick my up. I normally get produced
and I like to pick my own.
Speaker 4 (01:04:50):
Yeah, I'm not adverse to it, but I'm just saying
I do enjoy when my wife says, hey, I'm going
to go pick up the groceries. And because the thing
with women and we do the same thing too. If
we're hungry. Oh oh, then we wind up spending about
twenty five dollars more. If you go to the internet
and pick out your you're probably gonna be more responsible
with don't go on an empty stomach for sure. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:05:09):
And by the way, did you see that instacart got
found out they were putting a bunch of different prices
of different goods to try to see like using AI
to figure out what's the maximum they could get for
eggs and stuff.
Speaker 4 (01:05:21):
No way, shut your mom ass up, and ain't nobody
got time for that instat car. Nobody get douging grass up, man,
Like I'm cooking on our family. Christmas is gonna be
on the twenty seventh, No, the twenty eighth, because we
get home on the twenty sixth. We have a game
on the twenty seventh, So the twenty eighth is a Sunday. Yeah,
(01:05:42):
and I'm doing it, but I'm gonna buy a I'm
doing breakfast. We're doing eggs, bank and sausage that kind
of thing.
Speaker 3 (01:05:48):
Nothing fruit play.
Speaker 4 (01:05:49):
That's I mean, we have Teresa fans in the family,
but I'm not one of them.
Speaker 3 (01:05:56):
It's too greasy.
Speaker 4 (01:05:57):
Tody Soda said, Manuel, Just do it or should where
should I go? Get it? Ross?
Speaker 3 (01:06:04):
Right now? You don't care what I get it? Say
that I don't care where you get it?
Speaker 9 (01:06:09):
Right?
Speaker 4 (01:06:09):
I don't care. Right now, we'll see what happens to
come Q one such a fraud. Oh, I learned for
the best?
Speaker 3 (01:06:15):
You did learn for the best? Okay, I got one
more quick quickly?
Speaker 4 (01:06:19):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (01:06:20):
Did you see the college football playoff first round ratings?
Speaker 4 (01:06:23):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (01:06:23):
I did, zero surprise.
Speaker 4 (01:06:24):
Fifteen mil for Alabama, OU, fifteen mil for Miami A,
and m six mil for OHU ole, miss Tulane, four
point four mil for.
Speaker 3 (01:06:35):
The James Madison blowout.
Speaker 4 (01:06:36):
Ain't nobody got time for these automatic qualifiers and the
college football playoffs. Nobody wants to watch that Crawd.
Speaker 7 (01:06:42):
Nobody got that.
Speaker 3 (01:06:44):
They really don't. You're right about that.
Speaker 4 (01:06:46):
We're gonna have to go to sixteen teams let them
in or keep it at twelve and not allow the
cute the group of five in. This is the reality
of it. Yeah, because old miss Look, my great friend
Tagraphing heeds the voice of the of the New Orleans Pelicans.
He's like Matt my two laning Greenway. They're gonna let
(01:07:06):
you down. They're gonna they're gonna make this competitive. And
it was over in the first half, and maybe the
first twelve minutes of the James Madison game was semi competitive,
and neither team had their head coach. Right, No, because
the Twolnk coaches at Florida now worst jmu's coach has
the UCLA maybe or something like that. Who knows, Yeah, exactly,
and but that that's gonna happen.
Speaker 5 (01:07:27):
I mean it's gonna you go to these small team
programs and you have you make the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (01:07:31):
That means you got a good coach and you're gonna
get hired away. Yeah, I want to be a coach.
I want to stay at JAMII the rest of my life. No,
you don't, matter of fact, you want to go to
three schools with the next four years. And it's getting
his fall away from Jamie.
Speaker 5 (01:07:43):
That SFA coach has another good year, he'd be going.
Speaker 4 (01:07:48):
He'll move up somewhere where they actually use all the
letters of the alphabet seven one three, two, one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five
seven NINETI eleven forty seven. If you have something just checking,
if y'all out there, if you want to tell somebody
to shut their bumb ass up, or maybe we're some
of very merry, happy Christmas and happy New Year. Seven
(01:08:12):
one three, two, one two five Sabinati, It's Matt Thomas
Show with Ross here on Sports Talk. Sibnati, have yourself
fall Marry little Christmas.
Speaker 3 (01:08:24):
I know this singer.
Speaker 11 (01:08:26):
Let your hord be.
Speaker 6 (01:08:30):
Go ahead.
Speaker 4 (01:08:31):
I'm gonna say, Judy car Garland for the win. It's
correct y s I don't know this one, but it's good.
Marry little Chris.
Speaker 3 (01:08:51):
I just responded to your text.
Speaker 6 (01:08:54):
Did you.
Speaker 4 (01:08:57):
You're laughing to yourself because, like myself, amusing. Oh wow, yeah,
this is good. A little weekend thank you? That is
that your That's what you're gonna send to everybody. I'm
(01:09:18):
gonna say.
Speaker 3 (01:09:18):
I'm gonna send an example right now. I want to
put it on Twitter.
Speaker 4 (01:09:21):
Let y'all see it. So if you'all text me Merry Christmas,
you know what you're getting back. Okay, A nice long
explanation for me. You are so proud of yourself. Oh
look up, punch drunken road weary. You're fine. You've been
in the same city for two days, right three? Yeah,
but I mean I've been all over this country, losing
(01:09:42):
games of crappy opponents. Credity now sorenity.
Speaker 3 (01:09:47):
Now deep breaths, Matthew.
Speaker 4 (01:09:52):
And then we're home for two whole games, and then
we go back on the road to New York, which
is interesting. We're gonna be in New York City on
New Year's Eve and and we have been mulling over
whether or not to go to Times Square, and with
decision has been made not to do so. I think
it was.
Speaker 5 (01:10:06):
There was a December swoon last year, wasn't there Or
was that February going into the All Star Break?
Speaker 11 (01:10:14):
No?
Speaker 4 (01:10:14):
Yeah, they lost four out of five in December last
last year. This is a part for the course. Oh no, no, no,
I'm looking at this year. I'm stupid. Well, back in
nineteen eighty nine when the Rockets were in the Midwest
Division playing the Utah Jazz six times, it was three city. Yeah,
they lost six in a row going into the All
(01:10:34):
Star Break last year. Let'll be fine, matt all right, yeah, uh,
you're not upset with me that I'm not going to
go to Times Square for New Year's I don't care.
It seems like a wasted not a not It seems
like one thing something you do once and then never
do again, and it's probably a giant hassle like Marty
Garlt New Orleans, which I've still never done. But yeah,
(01:10:58):
I guess you got to get on a balcony. Can
you get in a I'll get at Times Square. I
would think we could have some connections, or it would
be in a nice hotel or something. Diapers top club
because if you're drinking bruskies and liquor and whatnot, you're
gonna have to go to the bathroom. Well, that's what
I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (01:11:11):
Do people bring diapers?
Speaker 4 (01:11:13):
Because if you get a good spot near the ball
the apple, I should say, don't you not want to
give that up? Probably just saying. Plus if it's cold,
you want to eat ory. It just feels like there's
(01:11:33):
too much. And again twenty three year old Matt okay,
why not? Yeah? Older me, I don't know. I'm not
gonna do it. No, all right, Oh we're coming up
with the news at noon. Okay, thank god? Who oh? Anything?
Anybody else?
Speaker 6 (01:11:51):
You want?
Speaker 5 (01:11:52):
Anything else you want to say as far as shuts
you by mess up mat or anything you do have
time for? Did you have something else or are you're
still mad? At that lady lecture, uring me and then
playing wrong. You can't someone and play wrong.
Speaker 4 (01:12:04):
I did. She's gonna let the dealer bust. Does she
not know the dealer has twenty like sixty percent of
the time for some reason. Oh my god, it's terrible,
absolutely terrible. Oh, Rossie, I just swore at her. You
probably would have, because you know what I would have
said to her. I said, enjoy this Christmas, maybe your
(01:12:26):
last m It might be.
Speaker 5 (01:12:32):
Maybe that's why she was playing so much money. She
got up playing about a Hunsky hand at some points. Yeah, yeah,
all right, let's do it.
Speaker 4 (01:12:42):
Quick check of the UH poll questions today. H My
pole question was the Christmas sweaters. Let's see here. You
bet your thirty Oh look at this, thirty nine percent?
You bet you seven sixty one percent? Oh hell no,
that makes me happy. Your pole questions about Christmas music,
it's about whether or not diehards or Christmas movie? Uh
(01:13:05):
fifty eight to forty two right now, Yes, Okay, then
we're getting trolled. It's fine. This is a troll job.
Speaker 3 (01:13:15):
We tried.
Speaker 4 (01:13:16):
We're gonna continue to fight this until we cannot fight
any more. It is what it is. Seven one three

Speaker 3 (01:14:20):
Oh yeah, I take care of you, don't really?
Speaker 4 (01:14:24):
The only run about five six minutes on Christmas Day?
You know what, I think you guys deserve the full conversation.
You know what you're gonna ask three questions too, could
be polite if it's funny.
Speaker 7 (01:14:33):
He.
Speaker 4 (01:14:35):
Crush your throat. I think I'm always polite, and even
when I ask questions.
Speaker 5 (01:14:40):
That need to be asked, he's he doesn't care. That's
what I love about Coachy Doka. You'd ask him anything,
he didn't care, all right, So he's not gonna hate
Manux and say he's not gonna throw at the end.
Speaker 4 (01:14:50):
Of his answer.
Speaker 5 (01:14:51):
I think I know a little bit about baseballs, as
a certain manager did to me once.
Speaker 4 (01:14:56):
Rides with the rusting breaker, busty raker, that's a is
it a porn start over? A bussy raker? That's your
one of your top five faves? Right, she's in the
FORO U tab all right, h ROSSI give the details
of what happened last night.
Speaker 3 (01:15:08):
Year, how about we let you give the details.
Speaker 4 (01:15:13):
Rockets are going to empty the benches here five twenty
five remaining down twenty. We will not see Shingoon or
Durant the fourth here mid range. Kawhi got two more
thirty eight Now for Kawhi Leonard at one eighteen ninety six.
Timeout to the rockets. Rockets are five minutes away from
(01:15:34):
going one in four on this six ham Roacher for
one more to go, Leonard has buried him to night
thirty eight.
Speaker 3 (01:15:41):
Eight and five.
Speaker 5 (01:15:42):
You would end up with forty one points about twenty
nine from James Harden. He was twelve of thirteen from
the free throw line fifty five percent from the field
for the Los Angeles Clippers.
Speaker 4 (01:15:55):
Rockets do not get it done. A one twenty eight
to oneh eight loss.
Speaker 5 (01:16:00):
And as you just said there, Matthew, one in four
on this six game road trip.
Speaker 4 (01:16:07):
Is tomorrow Night's game all important for the Rockets? The way, Yes,
it is important for the Rockets to win.
Speaker 5 (01:16:14):
Be nice to bounce back your two and a half
point favorites on the road on Christmas Day against the Lakers.
Speaker 4 (01:16:20):
By the way, are not playing good defense.
Speaker 5 (01:16:22):
JJ Rennick is calling out the team for the defensive
efforts of the after they've lost back to back games.
Speaker 4 (01:16:27):
Yeah, one thirty three to one. Awight, they lost last
night to the Lakers, the Suns and Phoenix. Do you
know who's getting under the skin of Lebron James? You
get one guest and one guests only? Uh? Colin a lastie? No,
Dylan Brooks, I mean, is come on Malwach.
Speaker 3 (01:16:45):
No, I just said it. Who's Dylan Brooks.
Speaker 4 (01:16:48):
Dylan is like intentionally just trying to f with the
second greatest player in the history of the NBA. That's shocking.
I mean he's got huge stones to give him credit
for that for sure. Uh, what's going on? Luka Donchs
is hurt? But he turned it. He turned he had
a thigh contusion, I thought, or something going on. Yeah, okay,
I'll get the injury report a little bit later today.
(01:17:10):
But by the way, the yeah, Winster, when do you
get that injury report? Asking for a friend? I mean,
I'll send it to you later. We'll make it up.
It's fine, we'll figure it out. Are you gonna use digital?
Are you gonna use AI for this prodcast? I'm rockets
all right?
Speaker 5 (01:17:30):
And then uh elsewhere Matt, Actually we have to go
to our Los Angeles Weather Bureau bureau for more news
at noon.
Speaker 4 (01:17:38):
Yes, we're getting the weather apart from Matt. We're out
to Matt at Los Angeles. How's the weather out there, Matt, Well,
thank you very much.
Speaker 15 (01:17:46):
Truss.
Speaker 16 (01:17:47):
Uh there's uh yeah, there's a few sprinkles going on
here in the Los Angeles area. Localized flooding as possible.
Every TV station is abandoning their edition of The Ricky
Lake Show in Sally Jesse, Raphael and Jerry Springer and
Judge Judy because they've got to give you hours and
(01:18:07):
hours of weather coverage for a few sprinkles here in
Los Angeles.
Speaker 4 (01:18:10):
Back to you, Oh, thank you. Be careful. I see
a puddle over there, Matt, thank you. All right, thank you.
Speaker 5 (01:18:15):
There's the weather report from Los Angeles. Not going great
out there in southern California. I think Matt Thomas said
he's expecting seven inches in La.
Speaker 4 (01:18:24):
So hey, can we play even though it's not a
Christmas song? It never rains in southern California. Coming back
in the break, I guess we've played it before, have
we not? Probably? Is it one of those terrible folky songs. Well,
Jonathan is going, you know, Jonathan and I are building
this really good friendship.
Speaker 7 (01:18:43):
Oh is that true?
Speaker 4 (01:18:44):
Because we are playing these hockey songs as you would
like to call that, uh huh. And he's like, it's
a banger. It's much more. It's much better than I
thought it would be. This young man is being corrupted
by you. This is not good Jonathan be ready. It
never rains in southern California. It's a bump songe coming
back with it. I want to go on us essment
of the song when we come back. All right.
Speaker 5 (01:19:02):
Elsewhere in the news at noon, did you see the
practice report from the Texans yesterday?
Speaker 4 (01:19:06):
Matt, It's but it's always a Wednesday, so I don't
get right.
Speaker 5 (01:19:10):
It wasn't too right because they play on Saturday, so
it's effectively a Wednesday, but it is. It's a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
rather than a Wednesday, Thursday Friday like normal yesterday.
Speaker 4 (01:19:20):
Get ready for the d NP list, all right, I
take deep breath, Here go Denico Autry knee, Trent Brown ankle,
slash knee, Arianta Urser thumb, Jake Hansen chess, Dylan Horton hip,
Camari Lassiter foot, Sheldon Rankins knee, Derek Stingley junior obleak
All DNP for the Houston Texans limited practice Aziz Al
(01:19:45):
Shai Here ankle, slash knee, as Johnny Carter hamstring, Dalton
Schultz knee, Austin Brinkman knee, Jamal Hill wrist, Woody Mark's ankle,
Durrell Taylor ankle, Justin Watson Calf, I'm sorry, last four
of those are full practice.
Speaker 3 (01:19:59):
Well, I'll tell you what.
Speaker 4 (01:20:00):
If Wax was doing a show today, he'd have his
entire show built off of that. But he's not dnps
for the Chargers. Keenan Allen, come Onie Vidal. I'm trying
to see who else is notable. And Justin Herbert was
a full practice with his left hand injury. Oh but
Brud Dupree was limited. Hey, I'll tell what I know.
(01:20:21):
Herbert gets a lot of grief, a lack of postings
and success. And remember how bad he was against Texans. Yeah,
the guy's got as we had with our reporter on
Chris Heyry yesterday, he has a broken handed he's plan
I mean, I we do need to give missus flowers
for that for sure.
Speaker 5 (01:20:36):
Yeah, and he's said he's having a pretty good season
overall as well.
Speaker 6 (01:20:39):
Yep.
Speaker 7 (01:20:40):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (01:20:40):
By the way, TK Metcalf of the Pittsburgh Steelers, his
two game suspension was upheld. It's gonna cost him five
hundred and fifty five thousand dollars. And the Detroit Lions
did an internal survey about whether or not the fan
broke a code of conduct and it is deemed yesterday
(01:21:01):
that they the kid did not maybe young adult, whatever
your name, even not a.
Speaker 5 (01:21:05):
Kid, but they saw I saw a video posted by
Ian Rappaport of him saying that was the that's the goal, folks.
Speaker 4 (01:21:12):
Yes, it's kind of.
Speaker 5 (01:21:13):
Tough to hear if that was really him. The audio
doesn't sound one to one honestly, right, So the lion said,
no harm, no foul. The NFL is like, we're going
to take a look at it ourselves.
Speaker 4 (01:21:25):
So this is not done because a metcalf is obviously
appealing to the suspension. M all right, look, ross, we
we don't need to reinvent the wheel on this. Go
to the game, sit in your chair, stand up, cheer
chare or boo that's it. Don't call out players and
(01:21:45):
try to start mess and then don't have your brother
because you think it's fun. Yeah, and if you're a player, DK,
if there's an issue, get somebody, kick the guy out
of the building. You got to keep your cool, stay
away from it. It's you're never going to win. Mm hmm.
All right.
Speaker 5 (01:22:03):
A couple of quick more, a couple few news items.
Matt Raiders have placed brock Bauers on IR did you
know coming up this week and we'll mention this on
the Rotten five. It is the Fernando Mendoza Bowl. The
Raiders versus the Giants.
Speaker 4 (01:22:21):
Two win teams, the stoppable force, the movable object, the
two worst teams in football.
Speaker 5 (01:22:27):
Who can tank harder? Find out this weekend in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (01:22:32):
By the way, brock Bower is a proud member of
Thomas Sports Enterprise.
Speaker 5 (01:22:36):
Yes that's right, that's true. So there go brock Bowers.
Apparently playing with a knee injury all year long. Heat
is going to sit about.
Speaker 4 (01:22:45):
Wait, do the Texans ever stop any tight ends? I'm
just asking for a friend, not really, So who is
the best tight end right now that the Texans could
place in a playoff? I really don't know the answer that.
I'm just curious if we need to start doing some
research on this.
Speaker 5 (01:23:00):
Let me think Hunter Henry, No, the Broncos don't have
a good tight end situation, Pete Fryarmouth me the old
Kincaid and Dawson Knox.
Speaker 4 (01:23:12):
See, I'm so happy to be Britain Strange. Britain Strange
for the Jaguars is decent. Yeah, if there's anybody who
knows about a good tight end. It's sports RV. That's
what I'm just telling you right now.
Speaker 5 (01:23:25):
Okay, and one more quick news item, Matt. The Spurs
destroy the Oklahoma City Thunder one to one ten. Victor
Wmbanyama talking about a rivalry butting between Shay between he
Shay Gildis Alexander and the Thunder. But Victor Wimbanyama saying,
(01:23:48):
I feel like saying it's a rival be a weird
thing because it's something that builds naturally.
Speaker 4 (01:23:52):
But we're definitely getting closer. So Spurs view Thunder. It's
supposed to be the Rockets in the Thunder? Is the
right I've been first of looking good, Maddie. Whether they've
won eight in a row now is it or seven
and have beaten the Thunder twice in the last two weeks.
Speaker 5 (01:24:08):
They've won seven in a row, two of those against
the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Speaker 4 (01:24:11):
Yeah, not greet all right. It never rains in California.
One of the all time nineteen sixty eight bangers. Oh God,
we'll have Jonathan rate the record next seven one three, two,
one two five. Savnani also Emadoka to join us in
about fifteen minutes here on Matt Thomas suel ross seven
(01:24:32):
one three two one two fives of anti seven one
three two one two five is seven ninety. This clearly
isn't the version I was thinking of. But that's okay.
I know thatllion good.
Speaker 3 (01:24:55):
I'm gonna say it bad.
Speaker 4 (01:24:59):
It makes it all right.
Speaker 3 (01:25:03):
We'll play this. We'll try this again at one o'clock
or twelve to fifteen.
Speaker 5 (01:25:08):
Speak well, Matt, I think you would dispute that it
never rains in southern California.
Speaker 4 (01:25:12):
Yeah, it's really windy af right now. But I found
this interesting. By the way, while writing Believe it or
Not la slash Southern California weather. Oh yeah, going back
to since records began in eighteen seventy seven, there are
nineteen different days on the calendar that have never had rain. Ever.
That's a believe it yes, Isn't that crazy? They all
(01:25:34):
want to change June, July, August, September. If you want
to change the number to a higher number or lower number,
everything gets I think it's good enough, okay. I just
think it's a good fact. Maybe it's a gimme.
Speaker 5 (01:25:43):
That's a free one. That's a free one for you.
Never rain in the history of records on certain days.
All right, you will never play we will play the
late sixties early seventies jam.
Speaker 4 (01:25:54):
A little bit later in the show Who's Things that
version of this song that was Tony Tony Home t
O n I t O n I t O n em.
Did they get it right?
Speaker 9 (01:26:09):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (01:26:09):
But ring the Uh? What is the spelling be bell?
Oh t O n y oh t O n I
t O n E. Jonathan, you don't know this. Many
years ago we did. We used to do rapping spelling
b with. They would give me an artist and have
to try to spell their name. Generally, we have to
bring it back this summer if the Astros are struggling.
(01:26:33):
I don't say it, don't say it. Did you listen?
You said you listen Tom to tell the truth?
Speaker 6 (01:26:37):
Right?
Speaker 4 (01:26:38):
I did?
Speaker 3 (01:26:39):
Lewis on seven ninety. Good afternoon to you, M T
N r V.
Speaker 9 (01:26:44):
Happy holidays to you guys.
Speaker 4 (01:26:46):
Thank you.
Speaker 17 (01:26:48):
Hey man, I got a question since you're you watch
all the games and stuff like that, and I'm I'm
not frustrated with the Rockets at this point.
Speaker 9 (01:26:58):
I'm I'm just kind.
Speaker 17 (01:26:59):
Of can't figure out where the defense has gone. So
I want to ask you all hypothetical with Dorian Finney
Smith coming back. If there's a trade to be made
where we could actually get a real point guard, would
you you think they would consider training Tarry Easton considering
(01:27:22):
he's going to be unsigned going into the summer.
Speaker 9 (01:27:25):
I just think we need somebody.
Speaker 17 (01:27:28):
At the end of games too, and I know that's
what Duran is for. But I think he's handling the
ball way too much. I think we're looking for him
at the end way too much. I really don't like
Sangoon with the ball in his hands at the end
of the game. I just want more of a Fred
van Fleet type of person. So I want to get
(01:27:50):
y'all's thoughts on it, and happy holidays, guys.
Speaker 4 (01:27:53):
Thank you very much. Ross helped me out. Tari is
a restricted free agent at the end of the year. Yes,
so that carries over to the new team if he
was to go, if he was to get moved, correct,
I believe so.
Speaker 6 (01:28:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:28:08):
Again, there are nuances to contract that I don't know,
but that seems to be pretty easy.
Speaker 8 (01:28:15):
You know.
Speaker 4 (01:28:15):
I You know again, not that rafel Stone's going to
give me intelligence on what he's thinking, but if this
thing kind of just continues to settle the way that
it is, and the team is probably playing where it
is about six seven games, about five hundred. There could
be two trains of thought, and we'll never know. The
true public perception of this one is that Fred's injury
(01:28:41):
would be too much to overcome, that maybe nothing could
be done to fix it for this.
Speaker 3 (01:28:46):
Year good that's one train of thought.
Speaker 4 (01:28:49):
Or the second train of thought, we can't ruin a
good season for a man, a good season for Outburn,
a good season for Katie. We need somebody to help
us run point, to get a men away from the
basketball and them do some other things in the dunker spot,
which he's been so good at that maybe we should
go all in the problem is are they Do you
(01:29:11):
make trades because you're gonna get a little bit closer,
or do you make Can you make a trade with
a player that's out there that's gonna get you over
the hump? And that hump is by the way Oklahoma City,
it's that hump is Minnesota, that hump is Denver. It
could be the Lakers and maybe even the San Antonio Spurs.
Speaker 5 (01:29:25):
Yeah, that's that's what rafel Stone's gonna have to ask himself.
And how close are we to a championship. How close
do we want to give to get to a championship
and what is it going to cost us?
Speaker 4 (01:29:36):
Because the reality is this, Katie is thirty seven, Katie
has got two year extension. What was it that he's
signed a two year deal out the end this year?
I think of something like that, and Katie, I think,
wants to play until he's in his mid forties. Now.
To expect Kevin Durant to do what he's doing now
or what he did five years ago for the Rockets
just isn't in the in the grand scheme of things.
It's you know, father Time is always undefeated. But if
(01:29:59):
this is a this is not a one and done.
You have young players, You'll have Fred van vlie Back,
you will still have Opera jengu and you will have
Jabari Smith. You will have them in Thompson. So even
if things don't turn out the way that you wanted
to this year, it's not like you're thinking, oh my god,
now I'm going to blow the whole thing up. The
question is going to be for Rafel Ross is do
(01:30:21):
we just play this thing out see how it goes,
not interrupting our grand scheme, which is using you know,
smart contracts and using our draft picks, or do you
go do we say, hey, we need one more player,
whether it's an outside threat, whether it's a point guard.
My guess is presume would be you want something as
a ball handler, and if is there anybody out there
(01:30:44):
that would automatically get this team dramatically better when it
comes to running its offense in And it's going on
right now, and you know, I don't have the answer
thing no.
Speaker 5 (01:30:52):
And they just have a very very little wiggle room
when it comes to the second apron, I guess yeah,
and if they like Tari hard Tari.
Speaker 4 (01:31:00):
You know, look, Tari's had a really good season so far,
except for the injury obviously, and that is part of
the requirement there. But you know, what can you get
in return if you were to move Tari knowing that
the team that picks him up he's not guaranteed to
stay there. We see that in baseball all the time. Yeah,
(01:31:21):
I don't even know. Could he well, is he eligible?
Could he sign an extension? Could you be like a
sign and trade type of deal where he signs an
extension and then gets traded.
Speaker 7 (01:31:28):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:31:29):
Yeah, yeah, I gotta go on. So I gotta check
the CBA. Well, you didn't do that. You know, as
you're knocking back, you're Turkey and you're dressing him around.
You're Tamal's why don't you die now? I'll call over
the CIA CBA. I wouldn't do that. kJ and Biscuit.
We're gonna hang with you guys in a couple of minutes.
Stand by, we'll talk to you after we talked to
em At, the head coach of the Rockets. He's with
(01:31:50):
us next. Our time is twelve twenty eight. It's Matt
Ross here in Los Angeles on Sports Talk seven ninety.
What it is twelve thirty four Sports Talk seven ninety.
We're gonna spend ten minutes with the head coach of
the Houston Rockets, e may At Duncan add and Ross
with you here on seven ninety. Emy, thanks for joining us.
(01:32:14):
I hope we're gonna have some better conversation. We're about
to have the next handful of minutes. But things have
not gone so far well so far on this trip
one and four, some really tough losses, some late games,
and then last night Bore of the Clippers just hit
everything on the floor. You're gonna meet with a team
and a half an hour to go over some films.
So would you like to give us a sneak preview
of the conversation you may be having with the boys.
Speaker 11 (01:32:37):
Yeah, it's really, you know, getting back to who we
are as a team. You know, we last night probably
the worst worst game of the year in.
Speaker 6 (01:32:45):
A lot of aspects.
Speaker 11 (01:32:46):
But when you look at things the big picture wise,
we gave them away and you're gonna have some fortnights.
But that's why losing the Denver game with the foul
at the losing New Orleans with the foul and giving
up a lead againt Sacramento, that's why those ones sing
even or because nights like last night are going to happen.
But our main thing is trying to keep it simple
and get back to our identity.
Speaker 18 (01:33:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:33:08):
Mean, you got a veteran group, there's won a lot
of basketball games in the last year and a half.
Kevin's obviously got to distinguish NBA career. I don't think
that these athletes that especially the ones you have, have
a little bit of that Here we go again, Am
I right about that? And if they do have some
of that, how do you as a coach get past that.
Speaker 11 (01:33:30):
No, I think it's it's simplifying things and trying to overcomplicate.
Like I said, are some of the things we've done
over the last few years. We're having slippers in those areas,
the simple things, and like we don't have the proper
effort or attention to detail with the game plan. We
start with that first and foremost, and so for us,
it's like I said, getting back to that. You know,
had a good win against Denver two games ago, and
(01:33:52):
very competitive games against quality teams, and so you don't
forget that. But at the same time, even if you
win those overtime games, you know that and gloss over
the areas we need to improve in and so win
winter lose, you know, you still look at the good
and the bad in those games, and plenty of things
we could have done to not be in those positions,
especially given up big leads against New Orleans and Sacramento.
Speaker 4 (01:34:13):
You may there's a certain level of respect that goes
with a very NBA team, even though the wins and
losses are going to be obviously different based on who
you play every single night. Is it especially aggravating that
some of these losses have come to teams that have
really gotten off the bad starts.
Speaker 6 (01:34:29):
Yeah, say that.
Speaker 11 (01:34:30):
I mean, you look at the Clippers and they're they're
probably their records indicative of their talent. Obviously you got
Leonard and Harden. That's two really good Hall of Fame
players there. But so you respect that and and understand
that they've not come out with a proper effort on
their part. And so that was the part that was
probably most frustrated last night, is that, you know, we
get a nine point lead and you know, we make
(01:34:50):
three four plays in a row on discipline, going for
gamble steals and fouls and let them right back in
the game where they've they've got faltered at times this
year when you've gotten them into those predicaments, but we
helped them get back into it and then it flipped
the other way. But yeah, overall, I would say the
Sacramentos and the New Orleans and those guys teams.
Speaker 6 (01:35:08):
Are going to start to play better.
Speaker 11 (01:35:09):
And New Orleans has, but we were doing some really
good things and got stagnant offensively, ondisciplined defensively, and then,
like I said, the fouls at the end of the
thing that stand out the most.
Speaker 5 (01:35:19):
You mentioned a bit of the lack of discipline defensively
is there?
Speaker 4 (01:35:24):
What do you attribute to that?
Speaker 5 (01:35:25):
Do you think there is just a little bit of
fatigue or tiredness or overall laziness.
Speaker 4 (01:35:30):
Would you say that you would attribute.
Speaker 7 (01:35:32):
That to.
Speaker 11 (01:35:34):
I mean, we do have to get back to playing
harder than we have been lately. You know, that's been,
like I said, our identity last two years. And you
don't want to forget what brought you success, and so
you stick with that as you're trying to improve and
implement some things offensively with some new players and new positions,
and so we can always rely on that whether you
make shots or not. And we were doing that this year,
(01:35:54):
you know, earlier in the season, regardless of the lumps
we took offensively, as we're putting on at the point
or different guys in different positions, we could still rely
on that. And the last few we definitely haven't done that,
hence the overtime games in the late game.
Speaker 5 (01:36:08):
Palley ROCKETEC coach Ema Doka with us here on Sports
Talk seven ninety and what do you do as a
coach when it's like sometimes last night, especially Kawhi Leonard
were just knocking down crazy shots James Harden was knocking
down contested shots and they just go in. Is that
something you just kind of try to brush away or
(01:36:28):
you can do? Do you ever say that to the guys, like, hey,
good defense there, and there was just nothing we could
do better offense.
Speaker 11 (01:36:34):
No, there are sometimes where you play really good defense
and guys are talented, so they make shots.
Speaker 6 (01:36:38):
But it's doing your work ahead of time, doing doing.
Speaker 11 (01:36:41):
Your work early, and keeping guys out of certain positions.
And one thing we had pride ourselves one all year
was holding teams and players far below their average. We
put us that up, you know, five games ago where
we held pretty much everybody well below their average. And
so for those guys to get loose, especially after we
played them, you know, recently, and and.
Speaker 6 (01:37:00):
Guarded them really well.
Speaker 11 (01:37:01):
You know, to give up fifteen or thirteen free throws
to Harden means we're not being disciplined, we're reaching in.
Speaker 6 (01:37:08):
We're fouling. You know, we gave him only five free
throws last game.
Speaker 11 (01:37:11):
And so you're gonna see two guys tomorrow Duncis Lee's
league in free throws, Austin Reeves's top five, and so
being discipline there and not foiling on certain shots is
a big key, and that's what gets hardening those guys
in their rhythm.
Speaker 4 (01:37:25):
E may you did not play Kevin or outing the
fourth quarter of the game last night. I don't think
Kevin is a lip service guy. Certainly doesn't come across
to me that way. When asked about why he didn't play,
he says, like he trust you with that. Was there
a conversation head in the middle of the game, and
I don't if it wasn't like n It'santra night or hey,
I want to let everybody know that.
Speaker 3 (01:37:46):
You know, nobody is.
Speaker 4 (01:37:47):
Sacred from guaranteed playing time, especially if things aren't going well.
Speaker 11 (01:37:52):
No, we gave them an extended running third we you know,
didn't take them out their regular time and to try
to get back in the game, and it didn't go
that way. So try and inject some energy and juice
into the game and put some guys in.
Speaker 6 (01:38:04):
I hadn't played as much. And you know, you look
at a.
Speaker 11 (01:38:06):
Fifteen point deficit with about eight nine minutes ago, you
cut that down to seven where you know, in the
next three minutes we give ourselves a chance.
Speaker 6 (01:38:14):
But it didn't go that way and went the opposite.
Speaker 11 (01:38:16):
If it did, we could have put our guys back
in and gave ourself a chance, but not a lot
of energy, like I said, or physicality in the game
in general, and wanted to give some other guys a
look to try to spark us.
Speaker 4 (01:38:28):
You did get the win against Denver, and you now
have talked about this before on this trip so far,
you've played them three times. It's a team that very
well could play in the playoffs. You have two three
point losses and a nice win back. Does that give
you the I know we can play against the opperational
on teams. That isn't the question mark. It's about trying
to give it the full throttle effort and not letting
(01:38:49):
those losses the second tier teams pile up.
Speaker 1 (01:38:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (01:38:54):
I mean, you know, I got to do a better
job of getting us motivated against everybody and think, you know,
certain matchups guys get up for, but you know you don't.
You don't have the areas of slippers that we had
in those two games against New Orleans sack if you're
properly motivated or you know, continue to do the right
things that we got that we did to get the lead.
And so for us it's it's not even about Denver,
(01:39:16):
whoever Lakers, or whoever tomorrow is. It's really focused on
us getting back to what we've done well over to
start the season and over the last few years, what
we've built and so that, you know, we shouldn't look
at anybody's record. It's more about continuing to work on
our things and taking them one as they come. And
I don't think we're looking ahead to anybody specifically. We
need to write our ship by ourselves.
Speaker 5 (01:39:38):
Here's somebody who's been playing and coaching in this league
for twenty five plus years. Do you feel like even
the bad teams are more talented and dangerous than they
maybe ever have been? Because the Clippers have a couple
of Hall of famers even though they don't, as you said,
a little bit better than their record. The Kings and
(01:39:59):
the Pelicans have some good players too. Is that just
me being a recency bias or do you think that
even the bad teams are more talented than they have
been in years past?
Speaker 11 (01:40:09):
Well, say, definitely in the West. It's you know, you're
not gonna have many easy nights, even the teams that
you know are struggling record wise. Like you said, a
very talented guys all over the place, and you know
Sak is missing some bonus and Levine and guys like that,
but you got the Rows and every night you guys
guys that are you know, taking advantage opportunity when guys
are out. And so in general, I don't think you
can look at record.
Speaker 6 (01:40:29):
Every team in the NBA obviously can beat you.
Speaker 11 (01:40:32):
And it's up to us to be disciplined to do
the right things and not take the approach of guys
being out or looking at a record. It's more so
focusing on what we're trying to build, the right habits
and continue to you know, head toward that path. And
so for us, we definitely shouldn't be looking at records.
Take it, like I said, a game at a time
and focus on getting back to what we did well.
Speaker 4 (01:40:53):
All right, to wrap up on a much to let
her note, does your son know what he's getting tomorrow
or is it a secret at this point?
Speaker 11 (01:41:00):
Well, he's fourteen. He did his own shopping, so we
can act the surprise and when he gets it. But
he picked everything as sol.
Speaker 4 (01:41:08):
Well, it sounds like our kids are being raised exact
same way. Thank you, e May for the time, Happy
holidays you and your family. Look forward to catch up
with you later tonight, and good luck tomorrow against the Lakers.
Speaker 6 (01:41:17):
Appreciate it. Same to you guys.
Speaker 4 (01:41:19):
Okay, thank you. You may douga with us here on
Sports Talk seven ninety. Let's go bet on the phones next.
Basically want to talk about the Rockets. So if you
want to talk about anything that he may had to say, uh,
twelve forty four is a time seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seventy.
Speaker 3 (01:41:35):
Doctor Roto is coming up in seventeen minutes.
Speaker 4 (01:41:37):
He'll take us for the fastest thirty minutes of the week,
and it'll be the final thirty minutes for Doctor Roto
this season. It's championship weekend in fantasy football. Twelve forty
four on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 7 (01:41:49):
They've gone there.
Speaker 8 (01:41:51):
Hey they draw flies.
Speaker 4 (01:41:55):
It's Ross's rotting five.
Speaker 7 (01:41:58):
This don't smell quite right.
Speaker 4 (01:42:01):
It takes no chalent to give you the five best
team to the NFL. Who of the worst we present
to you, Ross and is rotten five. Thank you, Matthew.
Let's go ahead and start this bad boy off with
number five. The New York Football Jets.
Speaker 5 (01:42:19):
They continued their nightmare season with perhaps the most embarrassing
loss of the year. They lost twenty nine to six
to Tyler Schuck in the New Orleans Saints, who have
been Rotten five all year long.
Speaker 4 (01:42:32):
Yikes.
Speaker 5 (01:42:32):
Of course, Nimmit's legend Aaron Glenn hasn't had a lot
to work with. Their quarterback was Brady Cook. Reese Halls
continued his setback season. Their number one wide receiver has
been Colts castaway a d Mitchell, so not a whole
lot to work with, and of course all their good
defensive pieces traded away at the deadline. Add that all up,
the Jets only have three victories on the year. They
have lost five of their last six games, probably gonna
(01:42:56):
end up his seven of the last dight. They finished
the season home versus the Patriot's l then at the
Bills l right. Now, Jets fifth worst team in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (01:43:06):
They can't stopping Nodslee all right. Moving along to number four,
you know you have to give it to the Tennessee Titans.
I thought they were going to finish the season number
one on the rotten five all year long, but they've
actually scratched together some good performances recently. Okay, they beat
Shador Sanders in the Cleveland Browns. Okay, they beat Gardner
Minshew and his backup Chris Oladokun and the Kansas City Chiefs.
(01:43:30):
But cam Ward actually looking pretty good. Maybe the arrow
is trending upward for the Tennessee Titans. They do have
a winnable game coming up this week. They are two
and a half point dogs at home versus the visiting
Saints three point or fewer home dogs, always dangerous as
of right now though, Titans fourth worst team in the NFL.
Speaker 6 (01:43:49):
I mean, we're keeping a book right now.
Speaker 4 (01:43:50):
We as you're doing a lot better camp, so you
don't get so down on yourself, all right, Moving along
to the Cleveland Browns. Okay, it was a close loss
to the Bill.
Speaker 5 (01:44:00):
Josh Allen wasn't very good against that Cleveland Brown's defense,
which is still fighting hard.
Speaker 4 (01:44:05):
But Browns could not get it done. Shador Sanders not
having a great day, Quinn Shawn Judkins going down with
an injury. Doesn't have any great receivers to work with anyways,
although Harold Fannon Junior is looking like a pretty good
tight tight end talent.
Speaker 5 (01:44:19):
Nonetheless, Browns continue to pile up the losses. They only
have three wins on the year. They finished the season
against divisional opponents Steelers, probably an l. We'll see if
the Bengals are even trying in the last week of
the season. They have lost four in a row, seven
of their last eight. Cleveland Brown's the third worst team
in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (01:44:37):
You are a factory of sadness.
Speaker 5 (01:44:39):
I know, all right, let's keep it going. We're getting
down and dirty now. The New York Football Giants, I mean,
what a horrible season they have had. Got their coach
fired of course early on. Now only two wins on
the season. Jackson Dart against the Minnesota Vikings this past
weekend did not complete a pass until there was under
two minutes left in the second quarter, and it was
(01:45:02):
a two yard completion.
Speaker 4 (01:45:03):
To Wandell Robinson.
Speaker 5 (01:45:04):
I mean, completely overmatched against Brian Flores and the Minnesota
Vikings defense. If they do end up with a number
one pick, which they could, they are playing the Raiders
this weekend, Giant's gonna have some serious questions to answer
about whether or not they feel like Jackson Dart is
the guy. Either way, they do have that big game
coming up against the Las Vegas Raiders, and they will
finish out the season with the loss against the Cowboys.
(01:45:26):
Right now, though, New York Football Giants second worst team
in the NFL.
Speaker 7 (01:45:31):
Oh no, it's bad, it's goal bad.
Speaker 5 (01:45:36):
And let's go down to the team that almost beat
the Houston Texans on the road. Well still, they are
the worst team in the NFL. Congratulations though to the Raiders.
They at least gave the Texans a run for their money.
Bottom line, though they lost, they only have two wins
on the season. Ashton Gentee starring over the weekend, maybe
a bright spot there. Defense though not good enough. Gino
(01:45:59):
Smith continue used to be a disaster through that pick six.
It's time to get Pete Carroll out of the building
and wheeling him to the old folks homes.
Speaker 4 (01:46:06):
He is not a good head coach. Raiders do have
the Fernando Mendoza Bowl. Is that what we're calling it?
With the Giants this weekend? We'll see what happens. Really
gonna call it that?
Speaker 8 (01:46:16):
Sure?
Speaker 3 (01:46:16):
Why not?
Speaker 4 (01:46:19):
We'll see?
Speaker 5 (01:46:20):
But Gino Smith definitely not the guy brock Bauers placed
on ir there in full tank mode. They're looking to
lose this one and.
Speaker 4 (01:46:26):
Remain the absolute worst team in the NFL, the Las
Vegas Raiders, the.
Speaker 18 (01:46:31):
Fuck more than anything that I've ever sucked before.
Speaker 4 (01:46:35):
And that's you run five. Can I take a slight
jab at the NFL? Yes, okay, you got three games tomorrow,
you have two more on Saturday. Mm hmm. You have
a Sunday night, you have a Monday night. Not giving
you a great sleight of Sunday games. CBS three noon
(01:47:00):
games Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Seattle, Carolina, New Orleans, Tennessee. If you
wanted to watch the Lake game, it's the Giants at
Las Vegas. That's it from CBS. I don't. We're getting Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Fox, Jacksonville, Indianapolis. Okay,
(01:47:21):
that's good for US, New England Jets. No Tampa Bay, Miami,
No Arizona, Cincinnati, No, that's it for them. And the
Lake games Philadelphia, Buffalo. So that's good for them. They
got at least a decent lague game. But if you're
spreading these games out over all these days, if I'm CBS,
I'm pissed.
Speaker 3 (01:47:42):
Seriously.
Speaker 4 (01:47:47):
Even with Seattle and Carolina being good, they don't draw eyeballs.
Speaker 3 (01:47:51):
They're not musty TV.
Speaker 4 (01:47:54):
In fact, they it's CBS even knows that most of
the country is getting Pittsburgh Cleveland because this.
Speaker 3 (01:48:00):
Are more recognizable, and they've got Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 4 (01:48:04):
I'm done. I just I'd rather watch Seahawks Panthers for sure. Yeah,
so I'll be rid zoning that bad boy for sure.
Let's go to a phone call. Let's talk to Biscuit
on seven ninety, Biscuit at twelve fifty six. We've got
doctor Roto coming up very shortly. Go ahead, Biscuit, Biscuit. Hello,
(01:48:29):
all right, let's try uh kJ kJ You're on seven ninety,
go ahead kJ.
Speaker 15 (01:48:35):
Real quick, Fellers, I know you against it as usual.
Love show, I love love. The conversation with email a Doka,
I'm real quick. I want to bring him a point
about Dylan Brooks and Dominique Wilkins. I remember when Dylan
Brooks to me, Matt, did you see email? Do you
remember email as a player?
Speaker 3 (01:48:53):
Very little bit, not much?
Speaker 15 (01:48:56):
Uh he I remember. I know he played photo around lead,
but his prime years were with the San Antonio Spurs,
and to me was was a stronger version of Chuck
Chuck A's well, Chuck A Chuck Ase were an attitude
wasn't a.
Speaker 9 (01:49:12):
Very good player.
Speaker 15 (01:49:12):
It was a role player. He gave me about seven
points a game, a couple of boards, but he had
a tenacity about him that pop up its love. And
I thought that the Rockets made that connection when they
got Dylan Brooks because to me, Dylan Brooks had the
same mentality that he was an extension of e May
on the court, but he was a better player than
as a player. And I seriously think this team from
(01:49:34):
an identity standpoint, is suffering from the loss of Dylan Brooks.
You don't have anybody that's starting line up with the
exception of Thompson, and his defense is compromised with him
happening to be more integral in the ball handling duties.
From a defensive standpoint, Shagoon is a defender. Jabari isn't
a good defender. We already I don't know what we're
getting out of Kobe, and he's up and down and
(01:49:57):
there's no defense in this lineup and we're scoring, but
we're not stopping guys. And that's the issue with the team.
Speaker 8 (01:50:04):
Number two.
Speaker 7 (01:50:05):
I said this, and this is in hindsight.
Speaker 15 (01:50:07):
I remember Dominique looks and those a lot of hot teams,
and he had some good players with him. Spud Doc
Rivers was an All Star, Kevin Willis was getting sixteen
rebounds a game, Dominic was calling thirty points, but they
could not win. As that is what I see with
Kevin Durant, I said this podcast getting him. He's gonna
put up phenomenal numbers twenty five to thirty a game.
(01:50:28):
On occasion, he'll stumbling into a couple of box hats,
but he's not a good defender and he doesn't equate
to winning basketball. We don't have a good record against
winning teams, and now we're consistently losing to sub part teams.
Hopefully I'm proving wrong over the course of this season,
but I see this plan out the same way I've
seeing Kevin Durant's career playout. With the accession of him
(01:50:48):
going to.
Speaker 6 (01:50:49):
A ready made team.
Speaker 15 (01:50:50):
He's gonna put up phenomenal numbers, but he's either gonna
barely make the playoffs if he makes them at all,
and he's not gonna He's a taller regid of James
Harden phenomenal score, but he doesn't equate.
Speaker 7 (01:51:01):
To winning basketball.
Speaker 15 (01:51:03):
Good regular season player may even have a winning record
but his style of play in collection with the other
players around him doesn't equate to winning basketball. I'm just
want to hang up and see what you guys gotta say.
Speaker 3 (01:51:14):
We will save this for after Doctor Ruttal.
Speaker 4 (01:51:17):
We gotta get to him. You're wrong. I'll just do
two quick words, you're wrong. I just I think we're
looking at short sample size here. I just do That's
my initial answer, Doctor Rotte up next, Let's get our
fantasy football championship underway.
Speaker 3 (01:51:32):
Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 19 (01:51:35):
Have to be made, and I've got trade proposals fly
in my way. My first round pick turn out to
be a big flop. I don't know which one receiver
I need to drive. The Roto gave me the new Who's.
(01:52:02):
I really don't know what I should do. My quarterback
keeps getting sacked. I've got out man Keith on Fair Deceive.
Speaker 4 (01:52:12):
Blue Moved with It is the final and fast who
starting minutes a major market radio for the one the
only Doctor Roto here on Sports Talks of any good doctor.
Happy Holidays to you and the family. Most importantly, we
might have like nine listeners because it's Christmas Eve and
people are not shopping or actually spending quality family time.
(01:52:35):
So I'm gonna take the first ten minutes of them
just talking about my fantasy football team.
Speaker 3 (01:52:38):
Are you okay with that?
Speaker 15 (01:52:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (01:52:40):
Did you make the finals?
Speaker 15 (01:52:41):
I did?
Speaker 3 (01:52:43):
All right? Wow, So here we go.
Speaker 7 (01:52:45):
When was the last Houston Toro championship? Empty?
Speaker 3 (01:52:48):
That was about three years ago?
Speaker 4 (01:52:50):
And general lives, Oh, oh, when you made the championship?
So he's never won it. Shut up.
Speaker 7 (01:52:56):
We're definitely got to get you to victory.
Speaker 4 (01:53:00):
Had a fifty point game in the week seventeen or sixteen,
whatever it was, and I lost that game because Jamar
Chase went ballistic.
Speaker 3 (01:53:07):
All right, here we go, Drake May, no issue? Correct, Yes,
no issue whatsoever?
Speaker 7 (01:53:12):
And actually er Gibbs in one second, going to be
a really good game for May because a lot of
those Patriot receivers Diggs, Hollins, Henry all have huge incentives.
So if these guys catch passes, they're getting paid. They
are throwing empty.
Speaker 4 (01:53:31):
Yes, Jamiir Gibbs, no issues, correct, No issues, Devon ah Chan.
Speaker 7 (01:53:39):
Please, no issues. I mean the little slight issues because
the Bucks are decent and viewers didn't throw to him
a ton. But we're starting him. We love him, We're
playing him all.
Speaker 4 (01:53:47):
Right, Keenan Allen, I'm not going to play did not
practice yesterday. But he is nothing more than about the
fifth target for Herbert, So I'm not worried about that.
Speaker 7 (01:53:54):
Okay, yeah, we're getting locked in that lineup.
Speaker 4 (01:53:58):
I'm going t Higgins. I'm going Zay Flowers. Okay, with
more guys, of course there's.
Speaker 3 (01:54:09):
More Dallas Goddard might tie end over Kelsey, yes or no?
Speaker 7 (01:54:14):
Yes, yes for sure.
Speaker 15 (01:54:17):
R J.
Speaker 3 (01:54:18):
Harvey is my flex yes or no?
Speaker 7 (01:54:21):
Oh yeah, for sure. They the Broncos need this game
and want this game. Harvey's look great.
Speaker 3 (01:54:26):
All right, my two defense I can choose.
Speaker 7 (01:54:28):
Wait wait, hold on, do you have another received option
besides Zay Flowers.
Speaker 3 (01:54:32):
I have Keenan Allen and Jerry Judy.
Speaker 7 (01:54:37):
I guess we're going Zay Flowers. But just no, there's
a chance. La Lamar is like fifty to fifty right now,
but I think he plays. But you know, we gotta
play Zay.
Speaker 4 (01:54:46):
Okay, Judy not good. I can't. I don't trust him. Yeah,
all right, now here comes the dicey part a little bit.
Speaker 9 (01:54:54):
No.
Speaker 4 (01:54:54):
The only thing I'm really worried about Chargers defense against
amid Houston Texans all defense or I can go Packers
at home against Baltimore on defense?
Speaker 3 (01:55:07):
What do you think?
Speaker 7 (01:55:08):
I think I like the Chargers because I can't imagine
that the Texans aren't going to let up like three sacks.
So if you get three sacks, maybe you get a fumble,
maybe get a pick. It's not going to be generational.
Can you make any ads or drops?
Speaker 4 (01:55:21):
I could? Of course, is there a defense out there
I should go grab?
Speaker 7 (01:55:26):
I mean, I don't know who's out there in your league,
but I mean the Saints play the Titans. That's that's
an interesting one.
Speaker 4 (01:55:31):
Saints and Giants are both available.
Speaker 7 (01:55:35):
The Giants are interesting. The Giants against the Raiders. Raiders
offensive line is bad, really bad. I'm okay with the Giants.
What I would do is I would drop the Packers,
pick up the Giants, and then stew on the Chargers
Giants Giants Charger game, I mean Giants Raider game.
Speaker 20 (01:55:50):
Loser gets the number one pick in the draft. Okay,
I don't under did it, Giants, I just did. I
just picked up the New York Giants defense. All right,
I'm going to probably okay, shut up, this is this.
Speaker 4 (01:56:04):
Is important stuff here.
Speaker 3 (01:56:06):
I'm getting information out there. Y'all be quiet.
Speaker 4 (01:56:10):
I'm gonna text you about chargers or Giants and we're
gonna have this conversation on Sunday morning.
Speaker 7 (01:56:15):
Yeah, you got it there, Well run the algorithm.
Speaker 4 (01:56:20):
Last thing, last thing, I got Rico, O'Donnell and Travis
Kelsey both on my bench. That's correct, right compared to
what I have. Also, what else is out there?
Speaker 7 (01:56:31):
Kelsea can't play? Kelsey can't play. Yeah, I mean got
a guy who's basically a third stringer in there. I'm
literally playing that guy because in one of my leagues,
I'm down to Josh Johnson or Ola Kadoon. I mean,
this is brutal, but yeah, we can't play Chelsea.
Speaker 4 (01:56:45):
We can't play Kelsey and Rico Dondele mixed as you
talked about last week.
Speaker 7 (01:56:50):
Yeah, not over Harvey, not over Hn, not over Gibs.
So okay, look at you. You got a real shot MT.
Speaker 4 (01:56:59):
Do you know how insufferable I'll be if I win this?
By the way, this is why he can't win. What
we love, That's why we love Doctor Ronold's the best squad.
He should win. Yeah, but he couldn't.
Speaker 7 (01:57:15):
Should have giving you props.
Speaker 4 (01:57:17):
Yeah, I think he's doing is he's trying to. He's
I think you should win. You have the best squad,
all right. Uh, let's get to uh what it's trying
out to be a pretty lousy slate of Christmas Day games. Uh,
I'm going against Dak Prescott. How will Dallas do against
the Commanders on Thursday?
Speaker 7 (01:57:36):
Pretty darn good? I mean, Dak to Lamb feels like
it's going to be a winner. I don't think Dak
gets abut two hundred and fifty yards, probably gets about
two touchdowns. You know, you can run on the Commanders.
The big problem here is this, we need you need
Josh Johnson not to suck because if they just get
blown out and now all of a sudden, Dak is
(01:57:56):
putting up you know, it's thirty five points, that could
get ugly. So we just need Washington to be able
to sustain some drives. But I like Dak, I like Lamb.
I like Jake Ferguson. I think he goes this is
not a Pickens week. Last week was the Pickens, you know,
rehabilitation week. I like McLaurin and Deebo. Samuel has incentives
in his contract too. I think they're going to try
(01:58:17):
to get him the football.
Speaker 3 (01:58:18):
All right.
Speaker 4 (01:58:18):
Detroit is this prolific offense, yet they still lose games.
They've got a slimmer a slim I should say, a
slim chance of making the playoffs. How will they do
against Minnesota in Minneapolis.
Speaker 7 (01:58:30):
Well, they're gonna rush then. I mean Max Brosmer is
not a real NFL quarterback. That's a mess. Justin Jefferson
has incentives they want him to do well, but it's
gonna be really hard. Gibbs is a great, great play.
I mean, Saint Brown is fine. I would keep it
tight in this game. I keep it GoF I keep
it Saint Brown, Jamison Williams and Gibbs just like that.
On the other side, I'd make it Justin Jefferson and
(01:58:52):
Aaron Jones. Aaron Jones, I think Vegas has him about
seventy three and a half yards because Jordan Mason's not
even going to be there. So I think those are
the only two vikings you play with any confidence.
Speaker 4 (01:59:01):
All Right, if you are playing a championship weekend or
consolation round seven to one three two one two five seven,
ninety seven to one three two one two five seven
ninety last, probably the best of the weekend games will
be Houston at the Los Angeles Chargers. That Sunday night
games when Chicago San Franis is gonna be awesome too.
But let's get to the Texans. How the look the
(01:59:22):
Chargers were scoring at ease against Dallas's defense, that they're atrocious.
Texans defense much better. Who's sitting who is playing? Between
the Chargers and Texans Saturday night and here in LA.
Speaker 7 (01:59:35):
It should be a really great game. They really should
be a great game. I think the difference though, is
that Dallas really didn't pressure Herbert. He was able to
run at will, he was throwing the ball deep. He
won't be able to do any of those things against
the Texans, right, and the Texans just need one win,
one win to get the job done. So I think
Herbert's gonna struggle. I gotta be honest with you. I
(01:59:56):
think Herbert's gonna struggle. I think there's a defensive game.
I agree with you. I don't want keenan Allen. I mean,
Hampton's not a great start, Herbert's not a great start.
Lad's not a great start. These are all guys who
should probably get you the lower range of their fantasy points.
So maybe Lad McConkie's getting you ten. Maybe Hampton's getting
eight to twelve. I don't think you're winning with any Chargers.
(02:00:18):
On the other side, I don't know if you're winning
with any Texans either. I mean, Estroud gonna throw up
twenty points against the Chargers defense, I don't think so.
Maybe Woody Marks is interesting if he plays. Nico Collins
is the one guy I probably would play with any
sort of confidence. I think this is a game you
don't want to have many of your players in because
it's just not gonna end well. These teams are too
(02:00:39):
good defensively, and I think you see a game in
the very low twenties.
Speaker 4 (02:00:44):
And lastly, the Niners looked awesome at Indianapolis, scoring at ease.
Will they do it against Chicago Sunday night?
Speaker 7 (02:00:52):
They will? So the Bears have a lot of flaws,
and to be honest with you, the Bears have been
very lucky this year. Now. I don't want to say. Look,
sometimes it's being good and sometimes it's lucky. There're been
games that the Bears have won that they shouldn't have won.
I mean, even that Packer game. Crazy things have happened,
not gonna happen this week against San Francisco. First of all,
San Francisco is gonna throw the ball deep, and that's
where the Bears can be beaten. Whether it's Ricky piersolij
(02:01:15):
Won Jennings, DeMarcus Robinson, brock Purty looked great. Christian McCaffrey
is a great start. The Bears have been okay against
the run, but McCaffrey still should get about twenty fantasy points.
This game is really about George Kittle. You know George.
How healthy is he? Hopefully he's out there if not.
Jake Toungus is definitely somebody if we remember him earlier
in the season. He's been really good on the other
(02:01:37):
side of the football. Swift is in play, Monan Guy's
in play. Caleb Williams did a really good job at
the end of that game, but for the first three
quarters he was super super mid right. I mean he
didn't have a touchdown pass it's like one hundred and
forty yards, but he's very mobile, right. Caleb Williams keeps
plays alive with his legs, so he may have one touchdown.
(02:01:59):
But if a Doomsay's out and burdens out, I think
this is a mess of a game for the Bears.
I really like the San Francisco.
Speaker 4 (02:02:04):
All right, on the phone's next seven to one three
two one two five seven ninety seven to one three
two one two five seven Annie. The final fifty minutes
of this season with Dr Roto is next here on
Sports Talk seven ninety I hear we go on the phone,
Doctor Roto is happy. Do you appreciate you listening? Let's
(02:02:25):
get the many of you in as we can because
we're running out of time here before a championship for
weekend in the NFL's Fantasy Football World, we'll start with
justin for Doctor Roto.
Speaker 3 (02:02:35):
Justin go ahead, please.
Speaker 18 (02:02:38):
Hey, Doctor Roto, this is from my slex position. I
know you said a second ago you don't really like Hampton,
but I also have an on Guy and Jawan Jennings.
Speaker 7 (02:02:47):
Which would you go with? Great question? I kind of
like Juwan Jennings. I'm not sure if Pierce all plays
forty nine ers are going to put up at least
three touchdowns, maybe four. Just think that the Texans are
gonna hold Hampton. They are, and Hampton has been really
it was really good last week. But I remember that
was against Dallas, so I'm gonna go with Juan Jennings.
(02:03:08):
I feel pretty good about that one.
Speaker 4 (02:03:10):
Thanks for the phone call.
Speaker 3 (02:03:11):
Let's go to Dave on seven ninety for doctor Rode.
Speaker 4 (02:03:15):
Go ahead, Dave, Hello, doctor Roto.
Speaker 13 (02:03:21):
This is our last call here, and thank you for
the for the buying for the entire season. Quarterback running
back and flex uh A quarterback Josh Allen or Judia
Sanders running back Woody Mark or either George Kittle the
(02:03:42):
flex position either uh George Kittle or what he mark?
Speaker 4 (02:03:51):
Thanks?
Speaker 7 (02:03:52):
Okay, all right, you got it. So I'm gonna go
Josh Allen. I think Josh. I mean, look, the Eagles
are tough defense, but when they put the Bills Eagles
game at four o'clock, you know they want that game
to be a good one. Woody Marks, I believe plays.
I think I don't know if he's gonna have a
great start this week, so be careful with that one.
Same thing with George Kittle. He left that game injured,
so I think he plays. It's the late game.
Speaker 2 (02:04:13):
He won't know.
Speaker 7 (02:04:14):
But here's what I would do. Pick up Jake Tongis
in case Kittle's out. You can play Tongus t O
N G S He's a pretty good backup tight end.
If you need him, you can use him.
Speaker 4 (02:04:26):
Let's go to Jay in spring on seven Andy for
Doctor Rodal Go ahead.
Speaker 6 (02:04:29):
Jay, all right, it's start of Fax position.
Speaker 15 (02:04:34):
I got Breesyle Bashward. Downs are Devontai Smith.
Speaker 7 (02:04:41):
Downs was in a good matchup last week. I don't
know whether he does again what he did, but it's
not a terrible play. I mean it looked like it
looked like Philip Rivers using them a ton. I don't
like DeVonta Smith too much. So I think it comes
down to the Jets and Brice Hall. The problem with
Bress Hall when you have Brady Cook there, it's not
going to be a winner. They're not going to score
(02:05:03):
a lot of points. I told you Patriots are going
to hammer them. Drake May is gonna throw at least
three touchdowns this week. I'll make emt very happy. So
I think if you think the Colts are gonna play
well and they're gonna have to, I think Josh Downs
is certainly in play. Philip Rivers went to him a
ton against San Francisco. He's gonna have to use him
against the Jaguars as well.
Speaker 4 (02:05:23):
Woodrow for Doctor Rode on seven on Woodrow, What can
we do for you?
Speaker 21 (02:05:30):
Merry Christmas? De fellas, I've got Davonte Williams or Crofsky Merrits.
I've got Christian Watson or Jayaln Coker. And would y'all
play Texans or Saints at d this week?
Speaker 7 (02:05:48):
All right, great questions. I'm gonna go Javonte over Bill
Crosskey Merritt. I'm gonna play Coker because I'm not sure
Watson's healthy. If Watson plays, I have no problem with
you starting him. He's a better start than Coker. But
just this that they're gonna have Bryce Young is gonna
have to throw the ball a little bit against Seattle
because Seattle's gonna stop that running game. So in terms
of the defense, I don't love the Texans. I mean, look,
(02:06:11):
I always like the Texans defense. Texans are a big teams.
So I mean, are they gonna do something against Justin Herbert? Yeah,
They're gonna stack them three or four times, They're gonna
get a pick, So I would I mean, certainly keep
the Texans defense.
Speaker 3 (02:06:21):
All right, Let's go to Jimmy and Tom Ball for
roto Hi.
Speaker 8 (02:06:25):
Jimmy, Hey, guys, and Merry Christmas, everyone love the show.
Glad you are live on Christmas. This is fun. Hey,
doctor Rodo, I got a flex but in my Super
Bowl and not a lot.
Speaker 22 (02:06:37):
Of good choices.
Speaker 13 (02:06:38):
I'm gonna see who you recommended. John Metchi on the Texans,
Kareem Hunts who he really fell off?
Speaker 18 (02:06:45):
And Jordan Addison.
Speaker 7 (02:06:48):
Yeah, I mean you don't have great no offense, you
don't have the greatest choices.
Speaker 4 (02:06:52):
Here's what can you make? Pickups?
Speaker 6 (02:06:54):
Jimmy, is it too late?
Speaker 7 (02:06:58):
All right, Jimmy, Jimmy's gone? All right, here's what Jimmy.
Hopefully Jimmy is still around. It's Christmas Eve. Two things, Jimmy.
Speaker 2 (02:07:04):
One.
Speaker 7 (02:07:04):
I like Michael Mayer. Michael Mayer is going to start
a tight end for the Raiders. Brock Bauers was put
on the IR today. I don't know whether any of
your matchups are terrific. I probably would go with Addison
over Metchian Hunt if you can make a pickup and
Mayor's out there, because he probably would be, That's who
I would go get.
Speaker 4 (02:07:23):
All right, Two more calls to get to before we
get to the final lock of the season, Matt and
Katie on seven on me go ahead, Matt hey, dog.
Speaker 22 (02:07:32):
First question is quarterback either Burrow or Purdy? And then
secondly I got a real conundrument tight end. I have Kittle,
I also have Ferguson, who goes tomorrow? Would you play
Ferguson or wait for Kittle or perhaps pick up Mayor
or Tongus.
Speaker 7 (02:07:46):
Yeah, these are great. First of all, I love Joe Burrow.
Joe Burrow is going to have a week. I mean
he had one last week. I think he's gonna have
another one this week. As much as I like Perdy,
I'm playing Joe Burrow all the way. That's a really
smart question that you're asking. I think Ferguson is a
fine play. He's not great. He doesn't get a lot
of yards after catch, so I think he's probably ten points.
What I probably would do is I pick up Tanjas right,
(02:08:09):
and this way, I have the San Francisco guy. If
it's Kittle, you play Kittle. If Kittle's out, you play
tanj Just. I don't hate Michael Mayer. I like them
more than those other guys that the other caller had.
Ferguson's ten points, But we want more than that. It's
our fantasy championship, so I think I'm gonna go go
get the forty nine ers, guys.
Speaker 3 (02:08:27):
All right, and Greg the last caller of the year
for doctor rodal Hi. Greg, Hey, how are we doing?
Speaker 8 (02:08:34):
I just got a couple. Dowdell, Michael Carter or.
Speaker 13 (02:08:38):
Gain Will and the Texas d or the Rams defense.
Speaker 7 (02:08:45):
Yeah, both defenses are in play. I'll go Texans. I
think Justin Herbert's going to struggle a little bit. Your
other question is dicey. It really is. If the Ravens lose,
the Steelers don't need the game, and we don't even
know who's going to be the starting running back, gain
Well may only get a few carries, so I'm worried
about that. Michael Carter, that game is a fifty three
(02:09:06):
and a half spot, so you know he's going to
be involved. I like him a little bit. Ric O'dowdell
is the best player in a really bad matchup against Seattle.
I'm not sure Carolina scores more than two touchdowns and
two field goals. So if you're willing to be risky,
go with Carter. If you want to be safe, go
with Rico.
Speaker 4 (02:09:24):
Ladies and gentlemen, We're gonna win a fantasy championship. We're
gonna have one player we're going to go to. It's
Doctor Rodo's lock of the Championship MT.
Speaker 7 (02:09:36):
What do they call it? Deja vu?
Speaker 2 (02:09:38):
All over again?
Speaker 7 (02:09:39):
Jamar Chase. Baby, this is the Jamar Chase week. Oh yes,
the dude is putting up I don't know, one sixty
and two touchdowns. You play in dfs. Get him in
your lineups. You want to do a little prop betting
and get it all in on Chase Cincinnati at home
against Arizona. What a mess, Jamar Chase all the way.
Speaker 4 (02:10:00):
That is your locke of the championship. Can we say
a super Bowl road Over're gonna call them championships.
Speaker 7 (02:10:08):
Fantasy super Bowl?
Speaker 6 (02:10:09):
It can do whatever you want.
Speaker 4 (02:10:12):
Friend, It's been always a pleasure. Congratulations to your son's
success at a great Houston institution on his Rice University.
Happy holidays to you and the entire Roto family, and
we will talk again next August.
Speaker 7 (02:10:23):
Can't wait, I'm seeing Happy holidays to you, Ross and
all the guys and everybody out there. Thanks for listening.
Can't wait to me back next year.
Speaker 4 (02:10:29):
Yeah, all right there it is the one on only
Doctor Rode. Oh by the way, Roado, real quick, Where
can they find you between this weekend on satellite.
Speaker 7 (02:10:35):
Absolutely, you can find me on Serious XM Fantasy Sports
Radio Saturday morning six to nine am Eastern IH sorry,
six to nine a m. Is Central, And then of
course you can find me over doctor Rodo dot com
and on Twitter at d r r O t O.
Speaker 3 (02:10:48):
Yeah, d r r ot O. Thanks again, Rodo. We
really appreciate it.
Speaker 23 (02:10:56):
Chess not roasting on an open file, Jack Cross nipping
at your nose, you tied cows being.
Speaker 7 (02:11:13):
Sung by.
Speaker 4 (02:11:16):
And folks dressed up like I guess Chemo. Everybody knows.
Does Mariah Carey Ross know that you didn't pick her songs?
She's fine? Catching them checks help to make the season?
Roy No, are you gonna disagree with me? Uh? No,
(02:11:38):
because you know I'm not a huge fan of the
genre as it is. You should have asked rod Ryan,
Oh really, what's that? A Green Day Christmas m smashing
Pumpkins singing? Uh run runner Rudolph Right, I'm surprised I
(02:11:58):
could even say smashing Pumpkins? I could.
Speaker 3 (02:12:00):
I think I'm pretty much tapped out right.
Speaker 4 (02:12:03):
Hot Jade did stained to make a Christmas album? Who?
What Stained? Who thought of the name of that band Stained.
That's really odd, But I digress. Jonathan a greatest agree,
Nat King Cole. Christmas so definitive, the definitive, the definitive
(02:12:24):
one Christmas cham I.
Speaker 3 (02:12:27):
Think I agree.
Speaker 4 (02:12:27):
I think I agree, honestly, just makes you feel nice
on one's said.
Speaker 5 (02:12:31):
And encapsulates Christmas soft got strings and the keyboard, Nat
King freaking coal.
Speaker 4 (02:12:40):
Isn't it crazy though, that Mariah Carey thinks her song
is the greatest Christmas song me. Every year you see
a story being printed out about that she's got the
number one song of all time.
Speaker 5 (02:12:50):
I think it's due. I feel like it's that one's
more devisive, divisive. I think there's people who hate that song.
Speaker 4 (02:12:58):
I just just think it's her pr for I'm saying,
you know what, Let's make Maria carry relevant for once
a year, and it's a gem. I love the song.
Speaker 3 (02:13:04):
Oh I like it too.
Speaker 4 (02:13:10):
Yeah, boy, you really can't anything Nat King Cole. If
Nat King Cole wanted to sing oh Canada to listen
to it, it probably did a great version of it somewhere. Yeah,
all right, Okay, you and I can't argue about this.
I don't think we can.
Speaker 3 (02:13:28):
This is it's it's perfect.
Speaker 5 (02:13:31):
I think, uh white Christmas being Crosbie's on the list,
Mariah Carey's on the list.
Speaker 4 (02:13:36):
Now you know, I like Little dermmer Boys my personal
favorite song. But I think I'm the minority in it.
I know you are, especially the bing Crosby David Bowie version,
like what are you doing now? Annie Lennox has done
some Christmas music that's pretty good at okay, so I'm
just Bruce Springsteen, no thank you. I do like simply
(02:14:01):
having a Wonderful Christmas Time by the great Paul McCartney.
Speaker 3 (02:14:03):
I know that's devisive as well. It sucks.
Speaker 4 (02:14:09):
People that love McCartney think the song sucks. I'm not
one of them, because he's my hero among many. Does
that John have a definitive Christmas song? Does he even
do Christmas music? I don't think he did. Billy Joel's
not known as a Christmas crooner. No, I guess he
(02:14:31):
had some though, I think Jackson five have done it.
Speaker 5 (02:14:33):
For Jackson five classic The Temptations Christmas album is my
fa who somebody was saying their favorite Christmas album earlier
was that yesterday? My favorite is the Temptations or The
Mountain the Motown Christmas album.
Speaker 4 (02:14:46):
Okay, so tomorrow you're gonna be largely at home with family? Correct, yes,
will you turn Christmas music on? Or we only have
an eye when you're bumping around the car?
Speaker 6 (02:14:56):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (02:14:56):
No, we put Christmas music on.
Speaker 15 (02:14:57):
We al.
Speaker 5 (02:14:58):
We normally make sure we listen to the Temptations Christmas album.
If not, at the very least, it is a must
for the the Temptations Silent Night.
Speaker 4 (02:15:08):
Wow, Okay, I need to go listen to that because
I'm a big Temptations fan.
Speaker 3 (02:15:12):
So all right, we just were able to give you
the rundown.
Speaker 4 (02:15:18):
We can come back with it. No, it's got a
long intro though. Oh there we go. Right now, we're
gonna play our Yeah, we got to play our song.
That's honor the today's edition of Hell I believe it
or not. Oh I forgot about that Christmas Oh my god,
(02:15:40):
your hands.
Speaker 6 (02:15:43):
Not even a mouse.
Speaker 4 (02:15:49):
Jotham players.
Speaker 5 (02:15:52):
