Speaker 1 (00:02):
Saulisbury.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Ol, okay, let's do this.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
Sean Salisbury, there to usc true, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 4 (00:14):
Brian Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
And if you're probably listening right now, you're saying, wait
a minute, that's not Sean, that's not even Brian Lilima,
You're right it Stan Matthews Lolo gonna be in just seconds.
And also Sean off today, so I'm in with the guys.

(00:36):
Says a lot to get to here this morning. Of course,
the college football playoff, the semifinals, they are set. We'll
get into that. Rockets back on the floor tonight. We
will talk about that as well during the show. And
the Texans one more address rehearsal before you get to
the playoffs as they get the Titans on the road

(00:59):
in Tennessee on Sunday, and some thoughts from them after
a week of practice, as as he's al Shaira is
back and also trying to be able to shore up
this offensive line as best as possible to who knows,
maybe get a second win in the playoffs. But I'll
know that a lot of you out there probably have

(01:20):
your doubts on that Katie Zone Jalen Milroe deciding it
to declare for the NFL Draft yesterday. So a ton
to get into on the show today. You know what's due.
If you want to get involved, you can do so.
Seon one three two one two five seven ninety. Once
again that's someone three two one two five seven nine zero.
As with the Rockets being off last night on the

(01:43):
local sports scene, not a ton in terms of any
game action or anything else of newsworthiness to be able
to get into on that front. But of course Notre
Dame pulling off a huge upset over Georgia in the
Sugar Bowl game that of course was played a day

(02:04):
later after the tragic terrorist attack there in the French
quarter on Bourbon Street, but the game going off as
not necessarily according to plan for Georgia, but definitely went
off according to plan for Notre Dame as they pretty
much had control of that game from the beginning.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Georgia sure helped him out a.

Speaker 4 (02:23):
Little bit fourteen point swing final possession of the first
half for Notre Dame and also to the first play
of the second half a kickoff return by the Irish
to be able to put themselves up a twenty to three,
So I mean without it necessarily spiraling it too far

(02:44):
out of control, or at least it shouldn't have for
Georgia at that point, because I mean a freshman quarterback
making his very first start. I just thought that was
incredibly irresponsible of Georgia to put that on him at
that point of you're down six to three. It takes
the loss at that point, like, just go to the half,
you're down by three, and let's just say conservatively that

(03:07):
you keep it right there. And Notre Dame still returns
to kick right there in the second half. Notice what
the final score was twenty three to ten, So those
seven points right there would have been a difference in
this game because you were able to at least keep
it somewhat close. And I mean the offense was not
able to run whatsoever. And you know, just this was

(03:31):
a game that Notre Dame was able to physically beat
up Georgia upfront. So that's how that game started off.
As the Dogs are going home. So now we've got
a semi final of Texas Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl.
They're gonna be the second game played, even though they
played yesterday. So next Thursday night in the Orange Bowl.

(03:51):
You're going to get as know that you were listening
to two Pros and a Cup of Joe before we
hopped on with you this morning and didn't even think
about that with Brady Quinn, the former quarterback there at
Notre Dame and LeVar Arrington, the former standout linebacker at
Penn State, calling it the two Pros and a Cup
of Joe Bowl.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
So that's what you get.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
You get the Nipny Lions, you get the Irish there
in the Orange Bowl. So then there were four for
the College Football Playoff and it was funny too, you know.
ESPN and people were just crushing them on social media
last night for one of the lower third graphics they
had of saying that not a single home team one
in the next round of the College Football Playoff. Well,

(04:36):
technically they're not wrong, because obviously the higher seeds were
the home teams for these but neutral site games. But
the point also is as well, that's not a single
top four seed one. I mean, Boise State losing to
Penn State you get, of course, Georgia losing yesterday gets
Arizona State, who, even though Texas was a significant favor

(05:00):
over them they were still a three seed, and then
you also get Oregon losing to Ohio States. So I
don't necessarily think that's going to be an every year thing.
I mean, I know that talking points are going to
come out from that. Is going to be people saying, oh, well,
is it best to be in the first round and
not have to have that buy? I mean, we see
it all the time in the NFL playoffs where we'll

(05:21):
see some teams who I mean, now it's less teams
that have the buy. Where now with the current playoffs
structure in the NFL, you only get one team from
each the AAFC and the NFC that have the buy.
But we used to have it where the top two
teams got that chance to be able to rest up
and get to the divisional round. And for the most part,
Shawk has held in that regard, and I think that

(05:42):
probably we will even have some years where those teams
that played the first week, the following week they get
absolutely smashed. And I know that there's already reports out
there too. I think Brett McMurphy already had the report
that the CFP is thinking of tweaking the current structure
of not just saying, you know, conference Power four champions
and the highest group of five automatically get a top

(06:05):
four seed, because I think we could see that in
some cases it was teams playing against other teams, that
it was the teams that played in the first week
that were just better football teams. And I mean we
saw that where you know, Ohio State these last two
games are playing their best football of the season. I
mean there's even some people who are wondering if Ohio

(06:26):
State kind of has the shades of the year they
won the national title and how they were able to
kind of turn it in, turn it on in the
College Football Playoff and run away with it in those
final two games and win the national title that year
over at Oregon. But I mean, you know, you had
Boise State, who, even though they had.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
A nice season, thing weren't better than Penn State.

Speaker 4 (06:47):
You had Arizona State, same deal, very nice season, gritty,
fun team to watch.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
All of those different types of things.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
I think even Texas fans kind of respect cam Skataboo
and Levitt the quarterback for them, but Texas also gave
them every opportunity to be able to get back in
that game when they should not have given them those opportunities.
So you know that was another example. I mean, Georgia
Notre Dame. I've been telling Georgia fans in my previous

(07:15):
markets on social media, this was not going to be
an easy.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
Game for you.

Speaker 4 (07:18):
And of course, you know, people look at Notre Dame
and just think, God, it's the same all Notre Dame.
There's no way. I mean, you know, look at the schedule.
They didn't play anybody. They lost to Northern Illinois. I said,
have you watched this team? Because up front they are
a different team, and then not only that, Marcus Freemans
brought a lot of athletes in on that defense and

(07:40):
on that team in general.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
So you saw it yesterday.

Speaker 4 (07:43):
You saw a team that did not look like your
daddy's man ty teo Notre.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Dame teams coming in there. You didn't have zik Mada.

Speaker 4 (07:51):
On the other side, you have guys that are going
to be drawing significant NFL paychecks here in the future.
So we'll see how that all go was moving forward.
But anyway, that's how we get started here on the
Sean Salisbury Show again, Dan Matthews in for Sean Brian
Lima here with us again. This morning at two as

(08:12):
well as mentioned the Rockets back on the home floor
again tonight taking on the Boston Celtics, as the Celtics
coming in on a back to back playing against the
Timberwolves last night in Minnesota. So seven o'clock tip over
there at Toyota Center as the Rockets trying to make
it two straight wins and even up this homestand and

(08:33):
try to be able to make it a winning homestand
if you can take tonight and then also take Sunday
against the Lakers here in town. As speaking of the Lakers,
might have to have that audio for you a little
bit later on Charles Barkley going scorched Earth not only
on the Lakers, but on JJ Reddick last night on

(08:53):
Inside the NBA. So you know whenever King Chuck, whenever
he speaks into a Law Mike Live Mike, whatever it is,
either handheld or it's attached to his lapel, well you
know that you're going to get some absolute just gyms
from him. So he had some good ones last night,
So maybe we'll have that for you. A little bit

(09:13):
later on mentioned Jalen Milroe the Katie Product. He decides
that college is no longer for him, he's decided to
move on and go into the NFL Draft, And I mean,
you know, we're not fully into NFL draft talk just yet,
but we will be in short order. So you know,
the question is going to be where does he go

(09:34):
in the draft? See your first round guy? Is he
a Day two guy? Any of those things. So we
can talk about that a little bit later on. With
of course Milroe being a local product. And I mentioned
the Texans where this week you get AZ's al Shaer
back Deontay Johnson. How much is he going to factor
for this team? I know that Damiko Ryans and also
c J. Stroud had some thoughts this week about his

(09:57):
addition to the team. And of course the biggest storyline
with this game with the Texans is the starters. How
long do we expect to see them go in this game?
Dimiko pretty short and just to brief to the point
in terms of how the starters were going to be
used in this one and everybody else it's been asked.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
C J.

Speaker 4 (10:20):
Stroud, also Bobby Slowick and Matt Burke meeting with the
media yesterday, kind of keeping it on the keep them
guessing front in that regard with the Texans starters. I
mean my opinion and just my gut feeling heading into
this game, I would probably suspect that you see the starters.

(10:40):
This might almost look like game number two of the
preseason where you see extended action out of the starters.
But I would probably expect in the second half, you're
gonna start see Davis Mills. You're gonna start to see
Daria Goomba, Walles, Xavier Hutchison, a lot of the guys
who have factored during the season, not so much Davis Mills,
but the other guys who have factored your the season.

(11:01):
But then the question is going to be what about
guys like your offensive linemen, Like don't you want that
group to try to get some sort of continuity and
chemistry heading into the playoffs. That's a group that is
one to keep an eye on. How about your inside linebackers,
I mean, how about you know, as he's Al Shaier
who has not played football in three weeks, and the

(11:22):
same with Christian Harris who came back a couple of
weeks ago and has done some good things for you,
but also too is a guy that has not played
a ton of football yet this season, and maybe you
want those two working together so they can have that
on field chemistry and have those reps together heading into
the playoffs two as well, So those are gonna be
things to keep an eye on for on Sunday. But

(11:44):
outside of it being Tennessee, you'd like to not get
swept by them this season, and it does seem like
they're gonna be wearing those oiler unis on Sunday. There's
really not a ton that goes into this more than
just stay as healthy as possible head in the playoffs
and hope that you can find some sort of lightning
in the bottle in the playoffs, although I know that

(12:05):
belief in the Texans is not exactly high.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
So that's how we get to.

Speaker 4 (12:09):
Sean Salisbury Show started this morning again Dan Matthews in
for Sean Lalima. Gonna be long too as well as
we are getting started here. If you want to hop
board on the phone lines, do so. Sebon one three
two one two five seven ninety. Once again, that's SEB
one three two one two five seven nine zero.

Speaker 5 (12:29):
This Sean Salisbury Show continues to continue.

Speaker 4 (12:34):
Gonna be interesting to see, uh Dan, what the offensive
line looks like. I heard you talk about this morning
as I was running a bit behind this morning, I
just you know, it's it's I wonder how long these
starters are actually gonna play and what the game will
look like, because if the Texans play as poor as
they have at times, I'm not saying it's gonna happen.

(12:55):
But the Titans can beat them.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
Well, the Titans can beat them, but do they want
to beat them? Yeah? The other question, yeah, I.

Speaker 4 (13:03):
Mean, it does seem like they're going to do the
troll act of where the Oilers jerseys do all those things.
But Paul Kuharski been a long time a guy there
in the Nashville market. When ESPN used to have their
regional writers, he used to be the AFC South guy,
So that's how Texan fans know him. But I mean,
he did a pretty good little piece the other day
of talking about if you're Amy Crunk's trunk, don't don't

(13:26):
don't give, don't give the speech about how important this
game is any of those things, because for Tennessee.

Speaker 6 (13:32):
It's not.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
It's important to go the other direction.

Speaker 4 (13:35):
It's important for you to not try to play hero
ball and to not try to win. But at the
same time, the players aren't gonna see it that way,
because what's this saying in the NFL when things are
not going the way that you hope and you know
that there's a chance there gonna be a coaching change,
there could be other changes. Well, it's also if your
team is three and thirteen, they're gonna be looking to

(13:56):
get rid of you, right, because you're the problem. You're
not good. Yeah, you're the reason why we're three to thirteen.
And that's what players in their minds they're saying, all right, well,
then I'm fighting for a chance to be on the
Commanders next year, or the Baltimore Ravens or in anybody
else out there, because well, they're gonna start to try

(14:17):
to rebuild this thing as soon as possible, and chances
are I ain't gonna.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
Be part of this.

Speaker 4 (14:22):
Yeah. I find it so funny. They posted that new
profile pick on Twitter, and I'm just like, I feel
like it's pick me energy. It's almost like they're more
concerned with, Hey, we're gonna continue to try to throw
in this old logan, these old uniforms in the face
of the Texans when they've won three games this year

(14:44):
and they haven't been relevant in the division in years
or in the league in years. Maybe focus on putting
a better product on the field, having a better quarterback,
having better coaching, having a better defense, having a just
a better football team, rather than focusing on trying to
throw this oiler's logo back in the Texans face. It's

(15:05):
so annoying, dude, all of those things. I mean, I've
never heard of three and thirteen swag because I guess
in their mind they're kind of like, you know, oh,
we're three and thirteen, What does it matter, Let's have
some fun. Your fan base doesn't care about that. Your
fan base wants you to be the other way around, right.
They want you to be a winning team. They want
you to be A team that is in the Texans

(15:26):
position of this game especially does not matter to them.
But it's also too a team that has not played
good football week one through now getting in the week
eighteen this season. So maybe that's something that factors into
how long the guys go in this game. I said
it in the first segment, and I know you were
listening that I would probably expect this to look kind

(15:49):
of like preseason game number two, where you get extended
drives out of the starters but second half, Let's just
say the Texans get the football in the second half
because they deferred. I think you're probably gonna see Bobby Slowick,
Jerrad Johnson, whoever on the sideline, and you're gonna see
number ten Davis Mills with them helmet on and jogging

(16:09):
out on the field. What if it's like ten to
seven at the half, still put Davis Mills in state.
It's the same deal of I brought up the example
US line on the nightcap that it kind of reminds
me of twenty eleven when you locked up the division.
And remember too, you hadn't lost one starting quarterback. You
lost two starting quarterbacks, Matt Shop and Matt Liners right
out for the season. Didn't Matt Liner come in and
play like two series and break his collar bone?

Speaker 1 (16:31):
What did that click? Yeah?

Speaker 6 (16:32):
He didn't.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
He didn't even make it through the first half.

Speaker 4 (16:34):
You had DJ Yates finishing out the first half. But
then in the second half, guess what if you were
there to see a Texans win. Jake Dolone, Baby, You've
got Jake Dolan the second half, and I mean, at
that point there was nothing to play for us. So
Gary Kubiak said I'm not getting Andre Johnson hurt. I'm
not getting Arian Foster hurt. The hell with that. And

(16:56):
I think you're gonna see a similar thing where it's
going to be in interesting from the team as a whole.
Because I mentioned it in the first segment. I if
I were handling this team, maybe you have certain guys
who were done for the day. Joe Mixon don't need
you anymore, Nico Collins, I don't need you anymore. Deontay
Johnson he needs as much. Aziz al Shaier and Christian Harris,

(17:21):
they need as much time together as you can have.
So maybe those are guys that, if not the whole
game three quarters with each other out on the field.
This offensive line, I mean, I'm sure you can say
what you want about. Does Laramie Tunzel really need to
play well when you need that group of five to
play together?

Speaker 1 (17:37):
Yeah? Yeah, I need you out there.

Speaker 4 (17:40):
Are you surprised that he got First Team of Pro Bowl? No,
He's widely regarded as one of the best left tackles
in the lace be after the snap right, you know,
like prestat penalties would keep his ass out of the
Pro Bowl. And I also think that it was a
Travis not a travesy. It's a Pro Bowl, right, But
how did Daniel Hunter not get Pro Bowl?

Speaker 1 (17:59):
Like? Like, how's he just an alternate?

Speaker 4 (18:01):
Well, because I mean you get people like Max Crosby
out there that you know, people who don't watch a
ton of other teams. It's it's more or less the
five thousand foot view of oh yeah, hey, that guy's
really good, isn't he all right?

Speaker 1 (18:14):
Well, that that guy deserves to go.

Speaker 4 (18:16):
It's a symbolic gesture because it's it was always a
joke of a game, and that's that's not what mattered.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
It's just what's his name, Sean Taylor?

Speaker 4 (18:25):
Sure, it's the notoriety of my peers think this much
of me, so I get this honor.

Speaker 1 (18:31):
Yeah, that's that's more than anything what it is.

Speaker 2 (18:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (18:34):
So I think with with the offenses, to go back
to the start of the segment, to the offensive line,
I think they need to play the entire damn game.
I don't give a damn like figure it out, because
that's gonna be the big key going into the playoffs,
whether they host the Steelers, host the Chargers, or if
anything else crazy happens and for whatever reason, the Ravens
come back to town.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
Think just hope, pray to god they don't.

Speaker 4 (18:56):
But it looks looking more like the Steelers first and
then than it could be the Chargers. Either way, those
two defenses have really good edge rushers and this offensive
line is gonna have to figure it out, especially in
run blocking because the run game has not been good
the last three weeks. I know, I use other sport comparisons.
Here's the other sport comparison. They're a back of the

(19:16):
rotation starter that you have to count on in a
postseason start. Like that's it's to the point where you're
so banged up, or guys have been used so much,
whatever it might be, Yeah, that you gotta go with
the back end of the rotation.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
And like Jacob to Rizzy, it's something like.

Speaker 4 (19:31):
That, Yeah oh yeah, yeah Brad, but you know, not
to just not to be smirch the career at Brad Peacock.

Speaker 1 (19:37):
Yeah, you know, you gotta count Brad Peacock.

Speaker 4 (19:39):
But we'll look at Brad Peacock did down the stretch
in twenty seventeen because they Dallas Kaik was hurt, Charlie
Morton was I think he was a little banged up
as well. You had what was the other guys that
must Grove was a little banged up, and then there's
Brad Peacock saving the freaking day, just coming in there.
You're like frisbees. You're like, You're like, how is this
guy just not getting absolutely barrel up? But he found

(20:01):
he found a way to miss barrels. Good for him,
my god, But I'm not asking for a quality outing
out of you. I'm asking for four innings out of you.
I'm asking you get it to the middle end of
my bullpen and then let the back end of the
bullpen be able to hold this thing.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
Down and serviceable. And that's it.

Speaker 4 (20:16):
And that's that's more than anything what you want from
this Texans team. Because I forget who it was that
made the example. I think it was Chris Simms that
said they can run the football well against bad teams.
They have not been able to run the football well
against good teams. And that's what an offensive line is
supposed to be. Offensive lineman will tell you if you
give them a preference between pass blocking and run blocking,

(20:37):
they're gonna tell you, I want to run block all
day because that's domination. That's that's physically being able to
beat you up, and they have not been able to
do that.

Speaker 6 (20:46):
No.

Speaker 4 (20:46):
I mean if you just look at their schedule as
a whole, like, who have they beaten outside of Buffalo?

Speaker 1 (20:52):
Think about it in Miami? I mean it was the
only two.

Speaker 4 (20:56):
I mean, I guess you could say the Colts, but
the Colts are a dumpster fire.

Speaker 2 (20:59):
They are.

Speaker 1 (21:00):
Did you read? Uh, I've got I've got a quote here.
Let me go through my notes. Hang on just two seconds.

Speaker 4 (21:05):
Oh yeah, guy showing up late? It's all right, you
know not did you see like what uh? What they
This was in an athletic article about the Coltch trying
to hold Anthony Richardson accountable and how one Colch veteran
said that he specifically signed to come back because he
believed in Anthony Richardsoni they're talking about didn't you do

(21:26):
the show with me when we were talking about the
the helmet ta Yeah right yeah yeah, so that's why
the very next day, very next day. Yeah, so this uh,
this was just a real quick quote here from this
athletic article quote. They were trying to hold Richardson accountable,
which is understandable, but then the guy they put in
wasn't the guy either, One Colch veteran said, quote, so

(21:46):
when they went back to ar at that point, it's like, okay,
but what are we doing?

Speaker 1 (21:49):
That really affected the team.

Speaker 4 (21:51):
Multiple players met with Richardson privately to tell him he
wasn't meeting the standard.

Speaker 1 (21:56):
Buckner among them.

Speaker 4 (21:57):
He said, quote, I signed an extension here because I've
leaves and you, Buckner told Richardson, according to the Athletic,
but you've got to do your part. So then you
you read that and it's a Colts veteran that's uh,
that wasn't name. But then Buckner's mentioned in this, so
it's like, dude, how bad really is it? Well, because
to the point that me and you had and I

(22:18):
know that caller really really disagreed with you, that's right, okay, yeah,
but I mean the tapping the top of the helmet
against the Texans like that was everybody looking around saying
this is some bull Like, well you saw what, I know,
you saw what Pat McAfee said, right, yeah, I mean
he's a Colts not a Colts Hall. He's like a
big supporter of the Colts because I mean that was

(22:40):
his team. And then he still lives in Indianapolis, and
I mean he he wants the best for them, just
like Andre Johnson wanted here with standard ground and you
know JJ Watt too. At the end, I mean that
was that was the power of Jackie uster Be and
Bill O'Brien and I remember, you know, obviously I wasn't here,
but I mean I pay enough attention and still cared

(23:01):
enough about the team to say, you made a guy
who was naturally programmed to love this city hate this team.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
Yeah, Like that's hard to do. Yeah, that's very hard.

Speaker 4 (23:09):
It's amazing that you guys were able to do that.
But that's what the cults are up against right now.
I mean, it's gonna be an interesting off season up there.
I mean there's people who wonder if Chris Ballard the
GM is back, he's gotta go, right, you would think,
But but Jim Mersay is kind of a Yeah, he's
kind of a jackass, you know what I mean. Well,
it's yeah, I mean, it's it's more than anything owners,

(23:32):
at least, you know, capable ones. They realize that when
you make wholesale changes that it usually means you're not
going to be winning for some time. Yeah, and most
of these guys. They don't have a lot of time
to be able to sit around and wait. So that's
why you will have certain situations where coaches are retained,
gms are retained, and the fan base might hate it,

(23:52):
but it's also the ownership signaling to them, Hey, I
could make the change, I could do all of that. Yeah,
but then guess what happens They start to get their
own guys. That's when the rebuilds starts to happen, and
it's two or three years that we're having the weight around.

Speaker 1 (24:05):
We saw it here. Oh yeah, yeah, there's no doubt.

Speaker 4 (24:08):
Let's continue this discussion about the Houston Texans going into
the game against the Tennessee Titans. Bobby Slow spoke to
the media yesterday and talked about the struggling offense.

Speaker 1 (24:17):
What did he say.

Speaker 4 (24:18):
We'll hear it and discuss next right here, let's Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 5 (24:23):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continued, So we get to.

Speaker 1 (24:28):
Do that again.

Speaker 4 (24:30):
So yeah, I think we will definitely going to try
to plan for a warmer attire because it's never warmed. Dude, dude.
It's the thing. It's always so cold. It's not only
it's so cold. Minute made Park might be whoa diving,
dyking Park. I'm not calling it Dike in Park. It's

(24:55):
gonna it's gonna be an adjustment for me. It is
gonna be an adjustment. Are you actually gonna call it
Dike Part? I mean eventually, well you'll probably do it
on the post.

Speaker 1 (25:04):
I've got to, you know.

Speaker 4 (25:05):
I mean, it's it's kind of like if you're out
in LA you can't call it Staples Center anymore?

Speaker 1 (25:09):
Is it still crypto? Crypto? Is it so now you
can call it Staples?

Speaker 4 (25:14):
I mean I probably would still call it that. Media
probably not right, Yeah, sure, yeah. But and it's also
too I mean, you know, we mentioned about the New Year.
I brought this up last night because we're kind of
in this purgatory week.

Speaker 1 (25:26):
There's gonna be nobody in the building today. Let's just
call it what it is. I mean, in this building
in two weeks, Well, there you go.

Speaker 4 (25:33):
And I mean it's not like they're gonna say, hey,
we're a couple of days from New Year's so we're
gonna show back up.

Speaker 1 (25:38):
That's not happening.

Speaker 4 (25:39):
But Larry David on Curby Your Enthusiasm, there was a
part on it where a lady said Happy New Year
to him, and he's like a little late huh. Statute
of limitations and his his rule was three days. I
said last night that I would give you until Monday,
because maybe I haven't seen you any of those things,

(25:59):
but then I would I'm going to actually even tail
it back even more.

Speaker 1 (26:03):
Monday before lunch. Monday, before lunch.

Speaker 4 (26:07):
You can tell people Happy New Year. After lunch. The
New Year is already here. Yeah, Like we are north.
It's kind of like telling people Merry Christmas.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
Right.

Speaker 4 (26:16):
I feel like you get about until the twenty eighth.
Once you're north of the twenty eighth, you're starting to mentally.

Speaker 1 (26:20):
Get prepared for New Year's Eve somebody.

Speaker 4 (26:22):
The other day, I was at the gym and saw
a buddy of mine from that I used to play
softball with, and he came out to me. It was like, no,
because I was sick on New Year's Eve anyway, it
was damn to the thirtieth or something. He's like, hey man,
Merry Christmas, dude. New Year's Eve was tomorrow, bro, I
mean you've already had the returns. Yeah, I mean, you
know the next day. The busiest days of the year,

(26:44):
Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas.

Speaker 1 (26:46):
That's when the malls are the most packed.

Speaker 4 (26:47):
Yea, yeah, I mean you've already had the people who
got something for Christmas and they kind of grinned and
bared it, but the gift giver also realized, yeah, you
probably didn't really like it.

Speaker 1 (26:55):
Here's the receipt. You can go take that back, and
you know, once you made the returns, Christmas is over.

Speaker 4 (27:01):
I remember being a kid and one of the big
things as I was how old are you. I'm thirty nine, okay,
yeah right, so you're you're four years older than me,
so you can probably agree with this. You grew up here, right, yeah, yeah,
so like going, uh growing up as a kid, like
a couple couple of years like the actually not a
couple of years, probably good majority of my childhood. The
biggest gifts were like getting a new BMX bike or

(27:24):
getting a new radio control car, a new RC car
or that's how it was for us.

Speaker 1 (27:27):
Video games, video games systems.

Speaker 4 (27:29):
Yeah, of course, like uh PlayStation PlayStation two, I remember
what you when that thing came out, My god man,
But for us it was like getting a new I
always had GT bikes, so that was like the biggest thing.
Going up to bike It used to be called bike Line.
Now it's called bike Lane. Have you seen go See
Ken on people's trucks. Yeah, yeah, so so go see Ken.

(27:50):
Ken is the owner of bike Lane. Back in the day,
you usually bike line, right, So back in the day,
that was the thing. Well, I remember my parents got
me this big, badass RC car one. I had to
be like eight years old, and I broke it open
on Christmas Day and part of the turning system didn't work,
so we had to go to Walmart to return it

(28:10):
the day after.

Speaker 1 (28:11):
Buddy, oh god, the customer service line. Man, Oh my.

Speaker 4 (28:15):
God, you would have thought it was Black Friday. Like,
it was insane. That was my first like instance of
like this is what it looks like the day after Christmas.

Speaker 1 (28:23):
Yeah, that's absolutely insane. There's there's a reason why.

Speaker 4 (28:26):
For the most part, if I'm buying somebody a gift
for the holidays, it's going.

Speaker 1 (28:29):
To be coming from offline, yeah, or online.

Speaker 4 (28:32):
So I mean, if that's the case, then it's where
I well, maybe I can track down the shipping tag
and you can chip it back and then be able
to handle it because at that point, once the gift
is given, then it's on you, like you know, now
it's your responsibility because you're the one who wants to
return it. I'm not the one who wants to return it.
I gave you the gift out of the kindness of
my heart. Now it's the kindness of your heart to

(28:55):
take it. The next step. Did you buy a chance
go near Market Street after Christmas?

Speaker 1 (28:59):
Now? Did you during Christmas? At all? No? No, not
even close.

Speaker 2 (29:02):
Really.

Speaker 4 (29:02):
The the closest I got because with my schedule and
I mean, you know, filling in with you, filling in
with Matt, whoever it is, I didn't really have a
chance for any of the things that I couldn't get online, yeah,
to go buy in person. So I had to go
Christmas Eve, my Christmas Eve shopping, and it wasn't bad,
honestly was. I went to a couple of stores up
there in the Conro area because we were staying with

(29:23):
our parents in Montgomery. The closest I came from getting
back to civilization was the edge of the Porta Fino,
because yeah, there's a store in there. And then I
went to the heb right there on to forty two
just to buy some things that we needed for Christmas.

Speaker 1 (29:41):
Dinner and a like.

Speaker 4 (29:42):
But aside from that, once I was done, I was done.
Like I was, I'm not going to the Woodlands Mall.
I'm not going to Market Street.

Speaker 1 (29:51):
First.

Speaker 4 (29:52):
GPS tried to take me to the other heb right there,
that's right near Market Street. I said, absolutely not. She
said absolutely not. I will find an HGV that has
a massive parking lot, yeah, and that I know will
be easy to get in and out of.

Speaker 1 (30:08):
But I don't. I don't do traffic.

Speaker 4 (30:10):
I don't do congestion, man, And I don't do getting
tailgated out of my neighborhood at four thirty in the morning.

Speaker 1 (30:16):
I don't do that. You got that was that this morning? Yes,
it happens. Really, it happens all the time. Coming out
I'm not gonna docks you, but coming out of your neighborhood, yeah,
I mean it's a large enough neighborhood.

Speaker 4 (30:25):
Nobody knows where I live in there, but like it's
still And my thought is is I'm like, look, I'm
not gonna get mad at you. I'm not gonna flip
you off. I'm not gonna do any of those things.
The only question I have is it's four thirty in
the morning. Where the hell are you going?

Speaker 7 (30:38):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (30:38):
Seriously, like, where are you going that you have to
drive eighty miles an hour down Imperial Hawgs Boulevard.

Speaker 1 (30:44):
Where you going?

Speaker 4 (30:44):
It is so insane? Did you take forty five or
hardy three five?

Speaker 1 (30:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (30:48):
So during the holidays I've just been taking forty five
because there's nobody on the road. Sure, But during the
like regular year, I usually take the Hardy toll road
just to avoid forty five at all costs. Doesn't matter
what time it is, it is be on me. How
many people are texting and driving at four forty five
or five o'clock in the morning. Who are you texting?
It's who are you texting? It's that, And it's what

(31:11):
I've said with forty five. The problem is is you
get extremes on both ends. You get where you're going.
If it hits the part north of belt A eight
and you can go sixty five and above you're in
the far left lane, you're going eighty, then there's gonna
be people who are, hey, you're going too slow. So
then it's like, okay, fine, I can move over. Then
it's somebody going like fifty.

Speaker 1 (31:29):
To fifty five. I know dude, it's the worst. Dude.

Speaker 4 (31:32):
I have said that those people who do that, who
are in the middle lanes and they're going if you're
going anything less than the speed limit, then you need
to be in the right lane, dude, all the way over.
It's a danger man, Bingo bingo, because at least if
I see somebody as hauling ass behind me, then I
can say, okay, I'll get over, just let them buy

(31:52):
it's no problem. But then you get over and you
have to slam on your brakes because somebody is Lati
Dotti dog just being oblivious, looking at their phone and
doing any of those things. I'm like, you're gonna be
the one that buy it, Dudeah, You're gonna be the
one that's wearing your gas tank in your back home.
They're just not paying attention and somebody can't stop in
time or can't get over. Yeah, and you going fifty

(32:12):
five and a sixty five are gonna be the ones
that buy it.

Speaker 7 (32:15):
You know.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
I understand.

Speaker 4 (32:17):
Police officers have a job and they try to do
traffic control and pull over speeders. They need to pull
over people that go under the speed limit. If it's
five under, pull them over. See if you're gonna have,
which I mean, I don't know in Texas if there's
the super speeder law, but where I was, there was
where if you were twenty miles over, they could even
like get it to a certain point where they could
get you for a felony.

Speaker 1 (32:37):
Yeah. Yeah, I think that exists here. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (32:39):
So, I mean, actually I got a speeding ticket, uh
probably about a year ago going down two ninety. I
was going up towards Cyprus, and uh, the guy gave
me a solid I think I was going twelve over
and he was like, hey, man, I got you marked
for seven under or whatever. He's like, that'll help you out, sure,
Like not that it was gonna be a felony or anything,
but it helped me out with the cost, I guess.
So I'm assuming that that works here too, like meaning

(32:59):
the super speeder. Yeah, but now, I mean that's the
thing is I mean, if nothing else, at least pull
him over and give them the riot actios. If you're
gonna be going this slow, that thing right there. Yeah,
the service road, the feeder road, whatever you want to
call it. That's your friend. Yeah, this is not your friend.
This the hell the highways to dance, Yeah, I'm with
you man. Damn well, there you go. There's our venting
session at six forty five in the morning. So I

(33:21):
felt good. All right, let's get back to football. Bobby Slow,
at the offensive coordator for the Texans, talked about the
struggling offense, especially that offense, and how future it looked
against the Ravens.

Speaker 1 (33:32):
What did Bobby Slow have to say?

Speaker 4 (33:33):
We'll hear that audio and we will discuss it next
right here on the Shawn Salisbury Show.

Speaker 5 (33:39):
This Sean Salisbury Show continues to continue.

Speaker 1 (33:44):
We had Josh paid what last month? I think we did? Yeah,
we did.

Speaker 4 (33:48):
We've had We've had Josh. You and him a lot
in common, you know, huge workout warrior. Okay, massive workout
warrior and also too. You know, I was texting him
last week because the massive storms that came through where
I was like, geez, what is this like spring break time?
We're starting to get the spring thunderstorms. No, it's late
December and we're already getting those thunderstorms. Josh is a

(34:11):
amateur storm chaser? Is he really like? He'll talk about
it on his social media during the springtime? Like I
remember once I wanted to have him on a show,
and he said, can't do it, man, storm Chasing, And
I thought he was joking, and I talked to my buddy,
who's his producer, and he goes, no, he's not being
he's being serious. Like he's legit in his car heading

(34:33):
to Arkansas or wherever.

Speaker 1 (34:35):
Oh so he's like, legit.

Speaker 4 (34:36):
Yeah, he's Glenn Powell. He's all these people in the
movie Twisters. That's Josh Pate. He does that for real.
That's pretty cool man, not Glae to you. So he
has his own college football show on CBS Sports and
CBS Sports HQ.

Speaker 1 (34:50):
He's coming up a nine o'clock.

Speaker 4 (34:51):
We'll talk about everything that happened in the quarterfinals, and
of course a little preview of the college football Playoffs
semi finals, which is coming up next week. We will
also dig into some rocket stock. I don't know if
you saw, by a chance that the Astros could be
in on a certain outfielder. We'll talk about that later
on the show as well. So we've got lots to
get into. But let's hear from offensive coordinator Bobby Slowick.

(35:16):
And this is him talking about the loss and what
the offense looked like against the Ravens. It wasn't good.
Here's Bobby's looks like.

Speaker 8 (35:23):
It starts with the fact that it was the first
game this year. We did nothing well, you know, we
didn't perform well in any regard on game past game
execution of the game plan connections beyond that, you know,
like it just that was not the Houston Texans offense.
And I would I would branch would further to say,
I don't think it's a Houston Texans as.

Speaker 3 (35:44):
A team either.

Speaker 8 (35:46):
And you know, I always start with myself when things
like that happened, like did I do enough sort of a
pair of the guys for the game the right way?
You know, like looking at the pass game all start
with in particular, like did I do enough to detail
every every one of these past plays where you know,
we could be confident in where the receiver's gonna be,

(36:09):
be confident in the greed, the receiver gonna be confident
in the great point, and we can make sure that
the connection can happen between these guys if you go
out and we get the full speed rep.

Speaker 4 (36:18):
On a or we then make sure that's Bobby Slow
talking about the offense against the Ravens. And to answer
the question, no, you didn't detail it enough. You haven't
detailed enough all season long, Bobby, Dude, there is cabbage
in that salad. There are carrots, there are red onions,
there are even you know, if you want some pepperccinis,
and there thrust the peppercinis in there.

Speaker 1 (36:40):
I mean, this is not the Houston Sextions offense.

Speaker 4 (36:43):
You don't have an offense that you have as standard
for Bobby.

Speaker 1 (36:47):
Yeah, like that's the number one thing.

Speaker 4 (36:49):
Like, yes, you did a lot of really good things
last year and that should be the standard.

Speaker 1 (36:53):
But yeah, I mean remotely gotten close to that.

Speaker 4 (36:55):
And you can say that it's offensive line, you can
say that it's Nico Collins being out for some time,
Joe Mixon, all these different types of things, but like,
don't give me the company speech.

Speaker 1 (37:05):
This is not our way.

Speaker 4 (37:07):
You've been doing this for a year and a half,
Like you don't have a way like that. Like when
I hear things like that, I'm just like, dude, just
answer the question because I get back to what I've said.

Speaker 1 (37:17):
From the beginning with him, he can't answer it because
he doesn't know, right, he doesn't know. Yeah, this is
the frustrating part for me.

Speaker 2 (37:26):
Man.

Speaker 4 (37:27):
It's like this has been an issue all season long,
and it's just the same story every single weekend. Your
defense saves your ass, you make a couple of plays
down the stretch, and you win ball games against below
five hundred teams. Remember what I've said before, when you
have the answer, you know that you're right. What's the answer,
it's short, sustinct. It's to the point when you don't

(37:48):
have the answer and you know you've been caught in
a pants down scenario, then what do you do?

Speaker 1 (37:53):
You try to talk your way out of it.

Speaker 4 (37:55):
And that's what I feel like his press conferences every
single week. I understand that coordinators are are obligated to speak,
but it's almost to the point where, you know, I
think I've told you before about the pay No Mind list.

Speaker 1 (38:06):
Yeah, you know you have it on the side of
the refrigerator. You know certain names are on there. All
of that. Bobby Slowak's on my pay no minds.

Speaker 6 (38:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (38:13):
Like anytime I see and Connor, you know, usually is
the guy that cuts up the audio, I tell him
one or two cuts.

Speaker 1 (38:19):
I don't need much like Bobby.

Speaker 4 (38:22):
Yeah, I just I like, I don't care enough to
hear what he has to say because it's the same
stuff every single week. And I understand he's kind of
hamstrung in terms of what he can do offensively, but
it's also too but what but what is he What
do you mean by that? But what's he hamstrod like this?
This team is better than last year because the offense,
the offensive line is terrible. Outside of Nico Collins, he

(38:43):
doesn't have a viable option for c J.

Speaker 1 (38:44):
Stroud to throw to.

Speaker 9 (38:46):
No.

Speaker 1 (38:46):
Yes, no, it's affecting c J.

Speaker 4 (38:48):
Stroud because even when he does have enough time to throw,
he doesn't believe that he has enough time to throw.
And that's why you get the back foot throws, That's
why you get the floating footballs, that's why you get
all the things that you saw against the ball to
more ravens. And it's kind of to a point where
maybe sometime during the middle of the season you would
have thought, for Bobby, I don't know, let's just say
the bye week, where you could have said, Hey, let's

(39:10):
do some serious self scouting here and let's find ways
to be able to get guys in motion. You know, sorry,
go ahead, yeah, let's find ways to get guys in motion.
Let's find ways to be able to use some of
our players in ways that maybe you wouldn't necessarily think
we should use them. But that didn't happen. It was
just the same, all right, Well, hey, we're gonna line

(39:31):
it up here. Here's this formation that we've shown everybody
fifty times this season, and we're surprised, like, say, for
a simple run play when we get stuffed at the
line of scrimmage, because the defensive line and probably their
defensive coaching staff was looking both at each other and saying,
they're really trying to do this again, like we haven't
seen this, okay, So I wonder, I wonder what they

(39:52):
saw in the offensive line that told them not to
start Jared Patterson at center this year, because they didn't
make that change until week seven, eight or nine somewhere
around there. Because I look at the run numbers for
mixing starts the year off one hundred and fifty nine
yards they beat the Colts. He gets hurt the next game,
so then he goes out. It's Cam Akers running the
football and then mixing returns, and he goes off for

(40:15):
one hundred and two against the Patriots, one hundred and
fifteen against Green Bay, one hundred and two against Indianapolis
one hundred and six against the New York Jets, and
then it goes to forty six and then it becomes
inconsistent from there on out. That was when the switch happened.
They put Jared Patterson at center to help the pass protection.
They move Jew Scruggs over to left guard. Obviously Laramie
Tunnel left tackle, you have Titus Howard over it.

Speaker 1 (40:37):
Right tackle, you had Jack Mason or right guard.

Speaker 4 (40:39):
Yeah, right, So Jared Patterson played really well for the
Texans last year at the center position. What did they see?
And again, we're not a practice I mean, I know
you've gone to some practices.

Speaker 1 (40:49):
I haven't.

Speaker 4 (40:50):
I wonder what they saw to where they thought Jewe
Scruggs was the best player to play the center position.

Speaker 1 (40:57):
It's two things. One is self inflicted.

Speaker 4 (40:59):
The King Green was playing left card and that's part
of the self inflicted is it's a little bit of
hubris of you really want to make sure that that
guy can work because you spent a high draft pick
on him, so he's got to work otherwise, then that's
an indictment on me as a talent evaluator, Nick Cassario
that I can't evaluate offensive line talents, So let's make

(41:20):
this guy work.

Speaker 1 (41:20):
It doesn't work.

Speaker 4 (41:22):
So then exactly to your point, you get Juice Scruggs in,
you get Jared Patterson in, and you know Shaq Mason,
who probably should be playing some of his final games
in a Texans uniform because he's a shell of what
he used to be. The not self inflicted, the inflicted
by someone else on you is defensive fronts realizing, for

(41:42):
the life of us, we don't know how, but they
cannot block twists and stunts.

Speaker 1 (41:46):
So we'll just continue to do that to them until.

Speaker 4 (41:48):
They find a way to stop it, which I'm gonna
go ahead and give you a spoiler alert here. They
can't stop it, Yeah, they cannot. So I'm just I'm
curious as to what the offensive line will look like
this weekend. Go back to my point from a couple
segments ago. How long are they gonna play? What are
we gonna see? If it was me, play as long
as you can, because you got to get some kind
offensive rhythm. But we shall see so well. I mean

(42:11):
it's also too it's by necessity. I mean, what are
you gonna do? You're gonna throw Nick Broker out there, no, God,
I hope not so. I mean, like, if this is
what this looks like, what the hell is it gonna
look like with anybody else that's behind these guys.

Speaker 1 (42:21):
It's not like you have a diamond in the rough
back there.

Speaker 4 (42:23):
That's just been like, you know, kind of like the
guy that after his high school baseball career, Oh I
would have been All State.

Speaker 1 (42:30):
The coach didn't hate me. Yeah, like there's there's none
of that, right.

Speaker 4 (42:33):
The guys who are playing are the guys who were
better than anybody else that's in that building. Yeah, so
we'll we'll continue this discussion. It's it's the same thing
every week, I swear from Bobby Slock, especially in his pressers,
like dude, yeah, he looks like your friend who perpetually
screws up, and then you try to ask him, hey,
why did you screw up? How did you screw up?

(42:54):
And they give you that same look that kind of
like deer in headlights, like oh, like, I mean he's
holding on the podium for dear life every single week. Yeah,
let's continue this discussion about the Houston Texas as we
get into the seven o'clock hour right here on Sports

pm tip off, six o'clock launch pad right here on

(45:25):
seven on your home afore Rockets basketball, Texans Titans this
Sunday in Nashville, Notre Dame beating Georgia last night. College
football playoffs semifinals are set. We're gonna have Aaron Wilson,
NFL insider joined the show at eight thirty this morning.
College football insider Josh Pate joins US at nine loaded
show today. Dan, appreciate you sitting in as always. Texans

(45:48):
Titans this Sunday. I would expect, I would hope. I
would hope that they handle the Titans pretty damn easily,
but you just never know what this offense A bit
big big thing that I'm looking forward to is having
a Z's Aushire back on the field playing for the Texans.
Christian Harris looking forward to seeing how they played together. Obviously,

(46:09):
Derek Stingley being a pro bowler five interceptions this season,
I wouldn't play him very much. I wouldn't play Will
Anderson Junior very much, and he'll hunt very much. But
then on the offensive side, for me, I want to
see some good football and some good rhythm from the offense.
I think that's what we talked about a lot in
the six o'clock hour, but I want to reemphasize it.
They've got to figure some things out because if they

(46:31):
continue to have this inconsistent BS, they are one and
done in the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (46:34):
Well it's for CJ. Stroud.

Speaker 4 (46:36):
I mean, I think he's the biggest one is I mean,
you see a broken man right now when he goes
to the podium after games. And I mean I think
you could even hear it yesterday or a couple of
days ago when he met with the media. I mean,
he sounds like a broken man. Yeah, he sounds like
a guy that doesn't have the answers. He sounds like
a guy that has either been let down by others

(46:56):
or also let himself down by his play again because
of the others. And I mean, I don't necessarily believe
that you can get out of you know, one day
of play of him.

Speaker 1 (47:09):
Being like Okay, yeah, I remember how this feels.

Speaker 4 (47:12):
Oh yeah, hey, you know I'm still that guy, Like
I don't know if you can find that I'm still
that guy type of performance. But you would like to
see him stay in the pocket a little bit more
and be able to drive a football down the field
and you say.

Speaker 1 (47:25):
Oh, yeah, that's that's that's what it looked like last year.

Speaker 4 (47:27):
Okay, that's good, maybe even on a checkdown route of
being able to make the right decision right there and
it's taken for twenty yards the same deal.

Speaker 1 (47:35):
Okay, that's cool.

Speaker 4 (47:36):
So he likes stuff to at least be able to
build on, because he hasn't had a lot of build on. Yeah,
this year, it's been some good things and then oh boy,
this is what we feared was gonna happen last year.
Do you think Bobby Sloke will get any head coaching
interviews this offseason? I think that he's got a long
line in front of him, Cliff Kingsbury, the two coordinators

(47:57):
up in Detroit. Yeah, I'm sure probably, I'm trying to think.
I'm sure there's probably a coach on the Ravens staff
that somebody wants to talk to. I mean, you know,
maybe if it falls through with the Jets with Rex
Ryan and whoever else.

Speaker 1 (48:11):
Pete Carroll or any other free tread you know.

Speaker 4 (48:14):
Old coach that they want to bring Like I was
listening to Fox National on my way in and they
were talking about Rex being up for the job, and
I was just like, dude, like, let me go ahead
and give Texans fans like, we haven't been at it
as long as Jets fans have. We haven't been at
it as long as Browns fans or any of these
other just organizations who seemingly could never get out of

(48:34):
their own way. The message is it can always be worse,
and they prove that. I mean, you have an owner
up there in New Jersey who I don't see any
reason why Joe Douglas would have lied, but talking about
not going to get a guy because of his Madden rating,
I would have quit on the spot, yeah dude, but
been like what the hell? Yeh, but that's not real life, Like, no, no,

(48:58):
that's not how we evaluate play years around here. And
then you want to possibly bring back Rex Ryan, which
if you're Rex, why the hell do you want that?

Speaker 1 (49:06):
Why would you want to go to that?

Speaker 4 (49:07):
They're getting to play coach without having to be a coach,
and he don't work for an absolute moron.

Speaker 1 (49:12):
In in Bacil and Woody Johnson, who.

Speaker 4 (49:15):
Eventually is going to fire you because of him, not
because of you. I think that Aaron Glenn, the defensive
coordinator for the Lions. I think he'll get some interviews
this year this offseason. A lot of people are a
lot of people are penciling him for the Saints job. Yeah,
and if I were him, I would not take that job.
So I think that if he does, let's just say

(49:36):
he does become a head coach, I think the first
person that he's going to interview to join his staff
would be Draw Johnson. They both went to Humble High School.
They're both friends. They both did and they both played
A and M. Yeah they both did, right, Yeah, Yeah,
so they both played at A and M. Both from
the same high school, same area, right down the road
from here. I think he would be his first call.

(49:58):
So then you got to think about that, because didn't
you Rod Johnson get interviewed for offensive coordinator positions last year? Yeah,
people thought he was gonna be the Saints scene and
it ended up going to Gary Kubiak's son. Yeah, so
oh there's another one, did clink Kubiak? I would assume
at some point it's gonna get offensive coordinator, and I'm
sorry head coaching interviews. I don't know about this offseason,
but he will as well at some point. So then
you got to think if you're gonna move on from

(50:19):
Bobby Slowik, which I think, I think there's I think
it's twofold. I think two things can be true. I
think the offensive line needs to play better.

Speaker 1 (50:29):
I think C. J. Stroud needs to play better.

Speaker 4 (50:32):
But I also as actually three things, but I also
think Bobby Sloak's offensive play calling needs to get much better. Well,
I mean, it just it needs to have some creativity
to it. And last year you did, I mean the
I go back to the touchdown that you had with
Brevin Jordan in the playoff game. I mean it was
one where you were like, all right, number one, Where
the hell was Brevin Jordan on the field?

Speaker 1 (50:53):
Number two? How did that happen? That was because of him?

Speaker 4 (50:56):
But I mean you saw exotic looks, you saw things
that you were like, oh, man, like, how the hell
did that football get to Dalton Schultz right there? I
don't even like, I didn't even know where he was
on the field. And I don't see that this year.
I mean, you know, they'll they'll do motion, but they're
not doing a ton of it. They're not doing a
lot of guessing game out there, and I mean, you
don't win in this league by just you know, all right,

(51:17):
here we go, got the quarterback and Shotgun, got the
running back right next to him, got maybe a couple
of receivers to the right.

Speaker 1 (51:23):
Nico's over there on the left. Okay, break, guys, let's go.

Speaker 4 (51:26):
Let's let's try to make a play, because I mean,
you're running basic concepts at this point, and basic concepts
get you beat. And that's why you've lost eight times
this year. Yeah, seven times? Excuse me, math I look
at uh. Obviously, Ben Johnson is going to be the
most coveted coordinator when this season ends. Like Rabels out there,
Rabel's out there. I keep forgetting about Mike Rabel. He's

(51:48):
got to get plenty of uh interviews this off te
here's another one too that with what happened yesterday, and
we'll see what happens with the end of this season.
I've heard Marcus Freeman's gonna get some some kicks on
the tires. Really, yeah. I He is widely regarded as
being an outseeing defensive mind and also to just the
way that he commands his team that he's impressed a

(52:12):
lot of people at the next level. But if I'm
him and you have a chance to win a national
title at Notre Dame, a place where people thought you
don't win national titles here.

Speaker 1 (52:20):
Yeah, dude, stick and stay. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (52:21):
I just feel like he's just perfect for college football.
I think he's perfect for Notre Dame. Yeah, perfect for
Notre Dame. Yeah, no doubt. And I got to give
it to Notre Dame.

Speaker 6 (52:28):
Man.

Speaker 4 (52:28):
I said earlier in the season that they were overrated,
like every single year.

Speaker 1 (52:32):
Dude, hand up, Yeah, hand up on me.

Speaker 11 (52:34):
Man.

Speaker 1 (52:34):
They have they have been impressive.

Speaker 4 (52:35):
No, you know, my hand is up because I mean,
I've talked about Georgia in the past, and I'm sure
a lot of people are gonna be surprised by what
I'm about to say.

Speaker 1 (52:42):
I was rooting for Notre Dame. Were you really? Yes,
I was rooting for Notre Dame.

Speaker 4 (52:45):
The SEC has not looked good in bullseason. It's not
even about that it was sane like as another point.

Speaker 6 (52:51):
It was.

Speaker 1 (52:51):
It was more or.

Speaker 4 (52:52):
Less about making the point. After Notre Dame beat Indiana,
where he knew that they were gonna play Georgia, and
I just I wasn't talking directly to Georgia fans, but
this is how Georgia fans and most people don't know
or care, so I'll try to keep this brief. But
that is an incredibly just inferiority complex fan base where
anything remotely negative about their program and the things come out,

(53:14):
and they immediately did. When I said, this is not
going to be an easy game for Georgia, oh yes
it will, I said, then you.

Speaker 1 (53:20):
Haven't watched the other team that you're going to be playing.

Speaker 4 (53:23):
And as I was doing yesterday on Twitter, I wasn't
completely putting the knife in and twisting it. I was
doing it just enough to say I told you this
was not going to be an easy game.

Speaker 1 (53:33):
Do you believe me now? And it's funny.

Speaker 4 (53:37):
Your response is very telling because those are the responses
that I got. I didn't get any of them. So yes,
you got the medicine that you deserved. Yesterday. Your team
was really not that good and Notre Dame is a
really good football team and they showed it and Georgia
helped them, but.

Speaker 1 (53:56):
Still Notre Dame.

Speaker 4 (53:58):
I mean, I think I said this to you. They
beat up Georgia yesterday. Yeah, and that is something that
I think I would ever see into a live microphone.

Speaker 2 (54:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (54:06):
They they they played really well against against Georgia, and obviously,
like you said, Georgia did help him out a little bit.
But still, man, Marcus Freeman has done a hell of
a job with the Notre Dame fight and Irish and
again I gotta put my hand up. I thought they
were overrated as help, but man, they've shut me up well.
And then it's also too because they have an analyst
on their staff and people are pointing to him saying

(54:27):
that he's Connor Stallions.

Speaker 1 (54:28):
Yeah, dude, I saw that.

Speaker 4 (54:30):
I saw that thread last night and like and somebody
commented was like, this is their analytics guy, so he
literally probably has a sheet that shows statistics rates. John
Gruden wouldn't have been upset with him. Yeah, because I
love that too. Of Oh, that's an illegal play. They
can't do that. No, you can't touch the football. And
then all eleven players on the field runoff. They were

(54:53):
out there, nobody touched the football. Shane Steiken did it
to the Texans last year, the first time that they
played against Colts. He did the exact same thing, and
he got Kirby to burn a time out. Right this time,
just somebody for for for Georgia jump. Although if you
look at the video, Georgia fans are quick to point
this out. The receiver did move.

Speaker 1 (55:11):
Yeah I did.

Speaker 4 (55:12):
I know, I was gonna say didn't. So then it's like, okay,
like it's a fall start. Fine, they punt the football, right,
what's gonna what's gonna change is is this offense all
the sudden gonna be able to find a hunting game?

Speaker 2 (55:22):
No?

Speaker 4 (55:22):
Is this offense all of a sudden gonna be able
to score enough points to win this game? Maybe, but
the way that game was going, no, no, it wasn't
gonna happen. So yeah, yeah you can. You can bitch
and complain about the refs. The point is you got
physically beaten up in that game. Notre Dame beat you. Yeah,
they got out. They got out, uh manhandled if you will,
They got out physicality wise, whatever however you want to

(55:44):
put it.

Speaker 1 (55:45):
People, it doesn't make sense. But yeah, but if you know, you.

Speaker 4 (55:48):
Know, the Notre Dame team was more physical than Georgia,
and they won the football game, and Rylan Leonard played
well and they ran the football exactly. They ran it
well enough, dude, he threw for like ninety yards well,
and you know it's also too. That was something that
somebody tried to tell me, is you know, look at
how much pressure he had against Indiana and all all
these things. I said, okay, fine, but then look at

(56:10):
their defense and what they're able to do as well.
And that same guy, again, I hadn't heard from him
after he you know, questioned my credibility of watching football,
and I said, you know, maybe I've been doing this
for a few years, and maybe I used to cover
college football a little closer than I do now, but
I also have watched enough football to know what a
team can look like against another team. And I saw

(56:32):
this Notre Dame team all season long, and I said,
that defensive front it's elite. That secondary is pretty good.
They've got good linebacker play man. They got so much
speed on the defense too. And that's a quarterback too
that can get enough done and is not going to
make too many mistakes with the football, because that was
the thing. Once they were down twenty to three, at
that point, I knew it was over. Yeah, because I
had said, the only way you're getting back into this

(56:54):
game is if they make mistakes and they're not going
to and they they're well coached in their discipline and
they didn't. Yeah, let's let's get to the steak out.
As we continue to roll along right here on Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (57:05):
List team tied to the team.

Speaker 5 (57:09):
The Seawan Salisbury Show continues.

Speaker 1 (57:11):
Hi, let's go.

Speaker 5 (57:16):
All right, Sean, what are you hearing out there now?

Speaker 4 (57:19):
The Salsbury's takeout, chals Berrief takeout on.

Speaker 5 (57:24):
The Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 4 (57:26):
It's time for the steak out Here on The Shawn
Salisbury Show, Bryan Lilma, Dan Matthews, Triple Y Sewan off today.
He'll be back with us on Monday. Let's get out
to the phone line. Seven seven ninety is the number
to join. We will start with John John, what's happening
this morning?

Speaker 11 (57:44):
All?

Speaker 1 (57:44):
And put him on hold real quick. Tripley, can you
touch him up for me? Please?

Speaker 11 (57:48):
John?

Speaker 6 (57:49):
You there?

Speaker 2 (57:49):
Hey?

Speaker 1 (57:50):
Yeah, Hey, what's happening?

Speaker 12 (57:52):
Your line went dead?

Speaker 7 (57:53):
Hey?

Speaker 12 (57:54):
First off, I'm hoping. I'm keep my fingers crossed. It's
gonna be an all Big ten final in football. I
think it will be. I think Ohio State is gonna
win I think Penn State will win, but we'll see.
I was one of your thoughts on you see the
report I forwarded to you yesterday. You'll Quinn of yours.
Uh the Texas quarterback, Yeah you know, has a UH

(58:15):
offer six million dollars pitch to him to uh to
uh to enter the transfer portal and and and take
over behind center for an unnamed football program right now.
I've heard rumors who it is, but did uh?

Speaker 2 (58:31):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (58:31):
So John, real quick, I've heard the same, and I've
heard it's a Big ten team.

Speaker 1 (58:37):
Have you heard the same by chance?

Speaker 13 (58:41):
Uh?

Speaker 12 (58:42):
I heard it's North Carolina?

Speaker 4 (58:44):
Oh okay, interesting I heard, Uh, I heard, I heard
Michigan State. It could be I mean random, random, but
yeah I heard. I heard it's Michigan State.

Speaker 12 (58:54):
Yeah yeah, I mean, you know, there's all kinds of
rumors out there, of courses it's it's a non named
school at this point. But what do you think he's
gonna do? H?

Speaker 1 (59:05):
I think person what happens?

Speaker 2 (59:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (59:07):
John, thanks for the call. Well, me and Dan are
gonna discuss that real quick. Appreciate it John, good weekend, buddy,
Thanks buddy, appreciate it you too.

Speaker 6 (59:13):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (59:13):
So, it's an interesting topic. So I think, and Reggie,
we'll get to you here in just a second. I
think that me personally, I think when yours needs to
play another year in college football, I think he has
heard his drafts stock and I think he needs to
transfer somewhere, Go get another bag, because he's been making
money since he got to Ohio State. He was like

(59:33):
the third stringer and he was making like two million.
I mean, that was the whole reason why he went
to Ohio State too. I think he reclassified, he graduated.
He graduated early. Yeah, so South Lake, I mean, and
because he couldn't do it here, so he went up
to Ohio and started to capitalize on it.

Speaker 1 (59:48):
Already.

Speaker 4 (59:49):
You know, he had the lion's main hair, he had
all of that, so you know he was he was
already in internet celebrity.

Speaker 1 (59:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (59:55):
I think he needs to play another year. Go get
another bag and start somewhere else. Because as soon as
this season ends for Texas, whether it's in the semifinals
or in the national title, whatever the case is, it's
arch Manning's time to start for Texas. It's interesting you
say that too, because we've got some audio and I
don't think we're gonna have time to play it right here.

Speaker 1 (01:00:12):
But sometimes they're in the show, we'll get to it.

Speaker 4 (01:00:14):
A guy who knows about a situation like this, Chris Simms,
I mean, he's he's.

Speaker 1 (01:00:19):
Got thoughts on it as well.

Speaker 4 (01:00:20):
And the funny thing is is, I mean, this is
the modern day version of what that was. Major apple
White did nothing to lose that job. Yeah, he was
the right guy for that job, but everybody wanted Chris Sims.
And I think that at the time Mac Brown wanted
to stay with Major apple White, but then he realized, oh,
we went out and got this guy for a reason,

(01:00:42):
so you need to use this guy. And I think
that Steve Sarkisi would be kind of in the same
same boat. He has absolutely taken grenades for yours this year.
He's taken the blame in terms of play calls. He's
taken the blame in terms of, you know, how they
set him and the other offensive guys up to be
able to execute those plays.

Speaker 1 (01:01:02):
Yeah, but it's also too some of them. It's been
on Quinn.

Speaker 4 (01:01:04):
I mean, we're watching the game the other day and
I was watching it with the villar Reals. Yeah, with
Ross's family had a spot up in spring and one
of the guys brought it up. Of man, he just
floats too many passes. Yeah, you saw it. You saw
the ball deep down the center of the field, boom intercepted.
But then you also see in the last five minutes
of the game and in doubled overtime, he was unbelievable.
You don't win that game without him eleven to fourteen

(01:01:25):
and sixty six yards passing two touchdowns.

Speaker 1 (01:01:27):
Like they won that game because of Quinn Uwers. Dude,
he was unbelievable.

Speaker 4 (01:01:32):
And I told Sean yesterday, it is wild to me
how a roller coaster of emotions with Quinn yours. You
see lack of confidence in the pocket. You see him
not stepping up into the pocket to avoid the rush,
and then you see him airmailing passes, throwing interceptions, trying
to force balls, and then out of nowhere you see

(01:01:54):
this dude that you're like, damn, I could give my
franchise to this guy. In the NFL, he went from
I'm having a receiver corps of Xavier Worthy, Jordan Whittington,
tight end j T. Sanders to this year having Matthew
Golden and Isaiah Bond. Nothing against Matthew Golden and Isaiah Bond.
But those guys that I mentioned old ones Uh and

(01:02:15):
Gunner hillmet tight End. I mean, he he's their best receiver.
He's really good in my opinion. So I mean it
was an adjustment of going from that elite group of
receivers last year to what you have now.

Speaker 1 (01:02:26):
And I didn't even mention ad Mitchell. Yeah Ady mitche
la't right. You forgot about Ady Mitchell. Yeah. So I
just it's it's wild to me.

Speaker 4 (01:02:32):
But as soon as, like I said, as soon as
the season it's arch Manning, he'll he will be the
quarterback for the next two years and they will be better.

Speaker 1 (01:02:39):
Think about that, they will be better.

Speaker 4 (01:02:41):
Based off what though, I mean, like I what have
we seen from arch Manning that necessarily makes us think
that it's going to be a drastic change. I think
because of the ability of arch Manning's feat the fact
that he can run. Yeah, Quinn does have that too,
he just he just hasn't used it. But he doesn't
use it. Arch Manning's going to use it. And I
think Sarkisian's playbook will open up even more for a

(01:03:03):
quarterback that has that mobility. Hasn't been proven. No, but
you see like little little things here and there.

Speaker 1 (01:03:09):
From march mating.

Speaker 4 (01:03:10):
It's like, damn, dude, this guy's got a different gear
that Quinn just doesn't happen. Yeah, I mean Steve Sarkisian
got mac Jones paid. Mac Jones should have never gotten paid. No,
not to the tune that he did. No, dude, we're
talking about a fallof good God seven seven nineties to
number to join Reggie, appreciate you holding.

Speaker 1 (01:03:26):
Good morning.

Speaker 13 (01:03:28):
Hey, good morning guys.

Speaker 7 (01:03:29):
My big would be go with Lincoln Riley because Lincoln
Riley has the three number one picks in the last
couple of years and that would benefit Quinn errors and
everything that he does.

Speaker 13 (01:03:41):
Hey, guys, I have another question for you before I
get to my pics and then uh notre dame. It
ain't gonna ever stop startigian wife from getting into the
camera and then on the side line irritate me. Yeah,
I am the only one noticed that she's in everything
on the sidelines next the players. I don't know no
other wife in college football NFL that does and it's irritating.

Speaker 4 (01:04:06):
Have you did you notice earlier this year that there
was a report out that him and his wife were
going to be getting a divorce.

Speaker 1 (01:04:12):
I don't think there was a report. I think he
released a full on steite that he said. I thought
it was.

Speaker 4 (01:04:16):
I think I remember that Sarkesi and released a statement
of saying we've decided to part.

Speaker 1 (01:04:20):
All the quits. Yeah, so so maybe maybe that's some
of it. Reggie.

Speaker 4 (01:04:23):
They they work their differences out and now she's like
attached to the hip. But yeah, she was decked out
in all silver the other night with a cowboy hat on.

Speaker 1 (01:04:32):
She Yeah, she gets her.

Speaker 13 (01:04:33):
Time and telling players what to do. I'm like, oh
my gosh, I'm tired of looking at her.

Speaker 2 (01:04:39):
Hey.

Speaker 13 (01:04:39):
One thing about Marcus Freeman. When you get a whole
bucket of cold gatorade dropped on you and you don't flinch,
that gives me a sign that you you're a good
dude for that, for that program, and man and and
DM you was exactly right. George smiled their home funk. Man.
They like on the field like we're Georgia, We're not

(01:05:01):
worrying about this. We got this in the in the books.
And that's what I saw with that whole game is
the cockiness of the Bulldogs, just like the fan base
of the Bulldog. That was the major problem with me
with them, they really didn't take that game like Notre
Dame was enough competitive competition for him. And then with

(01:05:21):
the Texas Man, no one really paid attention to you.
I told you, Brian, I had the season ticket. When
the Forest Buckner hit CJ Straud that first game of
the year and he laid on that carpet, that was
CJ's point of shaking his cold feet, whatever you want

(01:05:42):
to call it. He really laid that six foot seven,
three hundred and twenty pounds frame into CJ. And I
thought CJ wasn't He took a couple of seconds before
he got off and they took him off for play.
But after that hit, he wasn't the same, and that's
what a problem started with CJ. I remember that hit.

(01:06:03):
I'm watching, I say, oh, he's not gonna get up
that the Forest Buckner hit him really hard. And from
that point on, that guy was just getting rid of
the ball, not saying, not following whatever blocking schemes was formed,
because I don't think he's ever hit that hard, and
I don't think a lot of people even paid attention
to it, but that hit is what shook him.

Speaker 1 (01:06:25):
Up appreciate the call. As always, Reggie early hits man.

Speaker 4 (01:06:31):
We saw it early hits for the first I don't know,
whole season.

Speaker 1 (01:06:37):
That's what I'm.

Speaker 4 (01:06:38):
Almost gonna wonder, is it might not be at the
end of year. Tamiko ryans the Nick Cassio availabilities with
the media, But I can almost guess that we're gonna
hear of some sort of operation for CJ this offseason,
like maybe maybe maybe at the combine it's going to
be you know, hey, you know, Nick, there's report said

(01:07:00):
CJ had an operation for this, and you know, and
of course it's either confirmed nor denied at that point,
but this just sounds like it's bucking for a chance
that uh, you know, that it was he was more
hurt than we were led to believe.

Speaker 1 (01:07:18):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (01:07:18):
There's also something we had Kirk curve Street on I
don't know, six weeks or so ago, and uh, Sean
asked him about the Texans because they had just called
their Thursday night game against the Jets, right, and he said,
I saw he said some something along the lines and
don't quote me here, but he said something along the

(01:07:39):
lines of I talked to CJ. Strout before the game
and I asked him how he was doing, and one
of the things that he mentioned was I'm banged up, man.

Speaker 1 (01:07:45):
He said that on the game.

Speaker 4 (01:07:46):
Yeah, yeah, he said it during the broadcast and CJ
even during that Thursday night Yeah, and then and then
after the Ravens game, talked about Yeah, so he's saying
so he's saying that back in on let's see the Jets.
That was That was on Halloween, October thirty first. So,
I mean he's been not only not physically banged up,

(01:08:09):
but also too. I mean he's had a hell of
a year in terms of trying to, you know, outplay
a bad offensive line and being able to outside of
Nico Collins, trying to find guys who are really just
they're good, they're not great. I mean, even when you
have Tank Dell out there, I still feel like he's underutilized.
But it's also too You've put him in position where

(01:08:30):
he can get hurt two years in a row, right,
and you know, I mean you didn't have Brevin Jordan
for this season. Dalton Schultz, he's a nice player, He's
not going to be a reason that you win ball games, right, Like,
you're never going to come out of a game and say,
oh boy, the Texans wouldn't have won the day if
they didn't have.

Speaker 1 (01:08:48):
Dalton Schultz on the field. That's never gonna happen.

Speaker 4 (01:08:51):
Yeah, he's Dalton Schultz hasn't really been in this offense
as far as pass catching this year either, just like
Tank Dell. Just doesn't make any sense to me when
they were big pieces last year.

Speaker 1 (01:08:58):
But I digress. Let's get the break.

Speaker 4 (01:09:00):
Continue this discussion about the Texans next in Sports Talk
seven to eighty, The Shawn Salisbury Show continued, and then
college football insider Josh Bak coming up at nine o'clock.
Aaron will join us in about an hour, less than
an hour talk to Texans and Titans matchup. There's across
the league, Dan, there's some interesting scenarios where the Bengals

(01:09:23):
could get in to the playoffs. They've got to have
what Miami lose and Denver, Denver. Denver's playing the Chiefs.
Chiefs an't going to play any their starters because you
know damn well, the Chiefs do not want the Bengals
to get in the playoffs. No, I don't think any
team wants the Bengals getting the playoffs, because I mean,
you know, we can talk about the Texans maybe getting
a second win. There's no reason to believe that they will.

(01:09:45):
But Joe Burrow, Jamar Chase, T Higgins, that offense, there's
teams that look at them and say, I don't want
them to come in to my place. Hell no, no, dude,
if the Bengals get in, you better watch out. That's
no disrespect to the Chiefs, the Ravens or the Buffalo Bills.

(01:10:05):
The way that Joe Burrow is playing with, like you said,
with T Higgins and with Jamar Chase.

Speaker 1 (01:10:11):
Have you seen Jamar Chase in numbers this year?

Speaker 4 (01:10:12):
They're both he and Joe Burrow unbelievable. I mean, everybody
wants to talk about Lamar. Everybody wants to talk about
Josh Allen. You can even throw Saquon Barkley in there. No,
Joe Burrow's had a hell of a year and he's
the turn Jamar Chase has been unreal. Honestly, Joe Burrow
is your MVP this year. I know he's not gonna
get It's either gonna be Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson.
Joe Burrow and his numbers seventy percent completion percentage six

(01:10:36):
and forty one yards, averaging almost three hundred yards of a game,
passing forty two touchdowns compared to eight interceptions. And that's
without Joe Mixon, which I mean that lost the beginning
of the season. From people I talked with up there,
they had said that is one that cannot be underscored.
They really missed Joe Mixon. Their defense has been terrible, awful.

(01:10:57):
I mean, there have been numerous games this season where
Burrow has put them in position to be able to win.
Twice they should have beaten the Ravens and the defense
let him down. The Steelers the same deal. They were
in position to be able to beat the Steelers and
again let down. But I mean they put themselves in
position and we'll see if the Chiefs, you know, rise

(01:11:17):
up with Carson Wentz and are able to beat the
Browns or excuse me, the Broncos. And I mean, you
know you talked about Miami. I don't know who they play,
but I mean who.

Speaker 1 (01:11:29):
Does Miami play? Let me double check that.

Speaker 4 (01:11:31):
But I mean, you want to talk about all of
the playoff scenarios. I mean, if I'm the Texans, I
do not want to see that team coming here. Miami
plays the Jets, so more than likely Miami's gonna win
that game they're at the Jets. Yeah, I mean, does
what's his name gonna play Aaron Rodgers or is it
gonna be Tyron Tables?

Speaker 1 (01:11:51):
I think it might be Tyro. I think it might
be Ti God.

Speaker 4 (01:11:54):
I think that he gets he gets the go because
last week it was Aaron Rodgers who said that it
was his idea of saying, should we probably get tyrod in?
But I mean, just again, certain organizations just find a
way to continuously be themselves, and the Jets are that.

(01:12:14):
Aaron Rodgers is a shell of what he used to be,
and he's also too. I think that he's gonna want
to give it another go next season. There's rumors that
Aaron Rodgers is a Tennessee Titan next year. Yeah, there's
rumors that that's the case. Because I think that the
thought is from him and others is it usually takes
you a year to get back to yourself from an

(01:12:35):
Achilles injury. I think that Rogers wants to give it
one more go with a healthy Achilles to show hey,
I can still somewhat.

Speaker 1 (01:12:42):
Be that guy.

Speaker 2 (01:12:43):
Yeah, I.

Speaker 1 (01:12:45):
In Tennessee. I mean that's that's a they suck.

Speaker 4 (01:12:49):
I mean, if I were them, I would go a
complete opposite direction of take your lumps on the front,
but then hopefully you're able to overcome those lumps and
be able to actually be a somewhat capable organization. Yeah,
I mean New Orleans. It seems like that they're still
stuck with Derek Carr. Have fun with that. Yeah, I
mean that's why again we were talking about Aaron Glenn earlier.

Speaker 1 (01:13:09):
I don't take that job. Mickey Loomis is still your
GM Yeah, our pass.

Speaker 4 (01:13:13):
Yeah, mister gum chewer up there trying to read off
the resumes of you know, Chuck Noll and Tom Landry.
I mean the response I think immediately should have been
wait a minute, Wait a minute, Mickey, are you really
trying to tell me that Dennis Allen is these guys?
Like that's what you're really trying to tell me? All Right,
you go with that, Mickey, because I'll go ahead and
tell you on so many levels you're wrong.

Speaker 1 (01:13:36):
But like it is the blind leading the blind.

Speaker 4 (01:13:39):
In that city, and it's not going to change the
only reason that Mickey Loomis still has a job is
because they won the Super Bowl fifteen years ago, and
they've had a couple of decent draft class here and there,
but a lot of that too was the guy that
was also his head coach at the time, Sean Payton,
was the one directing most of that. Yeah, I'm actually
surprised once Sean Payton went away, I'm surprised Mickey Loomis

(01:13:59):
was able to keep his job because they're still chasing
ghosts in that in that building, They're still chasing Hey,
we can recreate what what what we had here with
Withdrew and with Sean. No, you can't because there's only
one name attached to it. It's those guys that's gone
new identity. Find it be able to build on on
your own. Also to a tongue of Iolo, the quarterback
for the Dolphins, that he might not be able to

(01:14:20):
play this weekend with a hip injury. He was limited
in practice yesterday and he's listened as doubtful this weekend.
So okay, well that makes that makes the element in
the equation pretty interesting. And then you got well, obviously
the Bengals got to take care of business at the Steelers.
So I mean Steelers are still playing for the Division two.
I mean they want that, so they're not going on
the road, which I can understand. I think what the

(01:14:41):
Ravens have the Browns.

Speaker 2 (01:14:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:14:44):
In Baltimore. Yeah, so I mean that. I think the
Browns are starting.

Speaker 14 (01:14:51):
D T R t R.

Speaker 1 (01:14:53):
Yeah, Thomas Robbins.

Speaker 4 (01:14:55):
I thought he might have been hurt because I thought
I heard, Yeah that really a starting quarterback in like
so many years, Like you've seen that meme before, having
any of the jersey Bailey ZAPPI, there you go.

Speaker 1 (01:15:09):
Let's go in western Kentucky.

Speaker 4 (01:15:13):
Are you talking about the jersey with all the you know,
Tim Couch all the way through. Yeah, well, I'll tell
you what you want to talk about. A loyal group
of people. It's the fan of that team.

Speaker 2 (01:15:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:15:28):
Well they've they've been in uh, they've been in shambles.

Speaker 2 (01:15:32):
Man.

Speaker 4 (01:15:33):
You know what's funny is like everyone thought Deshaun Watson
was going to be their savior. They should have just
kept Baker Mayfield. Look what he's done this year, dude.
And people forget too as well. People forget that the
Falcons really wanted Deshaun Watson and it's him at the
last minute who said, now let's take the Cleveland deal.

Speaker 2 (01:15:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:15:52):
So an organization who.

Speaker 4 (01:15:53):
Is continuously known for trying to chase things without actually
being able to do things. They were actually saved from
being even worse than they are right now. Yeah, yeah,
yeah in Goopher Baker Mayfield. He's played out of his mind.
He's played really good this year. So yeah, man, Deshaun Watson,
I wonder if he's.

Speaker 1 (01:16:11):
Uh, yeah, never mind. I'm not gonna make that joke
low hanging fruit, you know what I mean.

Speaker 4 (01:16:17):
I mean, I was gonna I was gonna give you
the runway to be able to take that plane off.

Speaker 1 (01:16:20):
If he wanted to. But that's okay.

Speaker 4 (01:16:22):
You think he's got a massage on an airplane. I
think his massages are closely monitored. Now I don't. I
don't think he's allowed to make the appointments. Got I
gotta throw that last part out there, alleged bag. I
don't want to Who gets the peanut? Yeah, I got
hope not seven one, three, two two five, seven ninety
is the number to join. Let's continue to look across

(01:16:44):
the NFL coming up on the last regular season week
of the season.

Speaker 1 (01:16:47):
Next right here on Sports Talk seven eighty, we want
to win.

Speaker 5 (01:16:52):
Sean Salisbury continues on seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:16:55):
But they've been playing some good basketball.

Speaker 4 (01:16:57):
Well, the Rockets at least getting the win the that
was nice after you know, the fourth quarter.

Speaker 1 (01:17:03):
Melt down lapses against Minnesota.

Speaker 4 (01:17:06):
Who by the way, you know that's the other part
of tonight's matchup with the Celtics is Boston played last night.
They played Minnesota in Minnesota, So you're getting in a
little late.

Speaker 1 (01:17:16):
Yep. You know.

Speaker 4 (01:17:17):
I don't know, maybe some guys rest tonight just because
you don't want to push it too hard at least
this point in.

Speaker 1 (01:17:23):
A back to back. So good, take advantage of it. Absolutely,
you do.

Speaker 4 (01:17:27):
I mean, I know that people are gonna say, well, no,
Luca the other night for the Mavericks, that's their problem.
That's not your problem. Beat the team that's in front
of you. And they did.

Speaker 1 (01:17:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:17:36):
Rockets are currently the three seed in the West twenty
two and eleven, Memphis ahead of them at twenty three
and eleven. God the Oklahoma City Thunder TRIPLI your Thunder
have lost just five times this season.

Speaker 1 (01:17:47):
Yes, I know I beat that last night twenty eight.

Speaker 4 (01:17:50):
And five, dude, And I think I saw when Isaiah
Hartenstein plays, they're seventeen and one.

Speaker 1 (01:17:55):
Yes, which the one didn't he used to play for
the Texan excuse me for the Rockets, Hartenstein, I think
he did, and it went to the Knicks. Yeah, it
was the Knicks. Yeah, and then was really really good
with the Knicks.

Speaker 4 (01:18:06):
And now he's an absolute force for for for which
a team that doesn't have Chet Holmgren.

Speaker 1 (01:18:14):
Right, that's enough out of you. Yeah, where's he at?
Where's chet at? Chet fractured his pelvis? Jesus?

Speaker 4 (01:18:23):
Yeah, Well he's only weighs like one hundred and ten pounds.

Speaker 1 (01:18:27):
Yeah, he's a baud like a stick out there.

Speaker 4 (01:18:29):
Wow, So it doesn't take a lot, but I mean
he's he's been down for some time.

Speaker 1 (01:18:34):
But no, the Thunder are a good basketball team.

Speaker 4 (01:18:36):
That would be a tough test if you got them
in a playoff series. Speaking of tall, skinny guys, how
are the Spurs still so bad when they got victor
of Wabbin Yama. Well, I mean, you know, everybody's told
us that the Spurs were, you know, gonna it was
gonna be, you know, the Renaissance again, the Golden Ages,
I mean, the ghosts of Tim Duncan and Mano Genobili

(01:18:58):
and Tony Park. We're gonna get it all over again here.
And I mean outside of him, so hands an all
right player? You added Chris Paul. I mean he's not
who Chris Paul used to be, right. I mean, they're
just still a unbalanced basketball team, and that's why they
are who they are.

Speaker 1 (01:19:19):
I can't stand the Spurs, specifically Greg Papa.

Speaker 4 (01:19:21):
Oh, it doesn't bother me because when I was in college.
I was in college there in Metro San Antonio during
those mid two thousands days, and I mean, you know,
just it always cracks me up when fan bases start
to talk like the team, like they're part of the team,
and you know, talking about the standards and everything else
that that that are part of that team. I'm sure
I've done it too, but I mean that was everything

(01:19:44):
of well Popovich says this, Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:19:48):
Like stop, you're not part of the team. It's okay,
Like we get it. They they have a high standard.

Speaker 4 (01:19:55):
But you want to talk about an organization who takes
themselves way too seriously, That organization takes themselves away.

Speaker 2 (01:20:02):
I hate him.

Speaker 4 (01:20:03):
I can't stand them. Them in the Dallas Mavericks. They
can follow a cliff all I care the Mavericks. It's
more of their fan base and that that's Dallas in general, right,
and they're annoying. They're annoying PA Guy because I mean
there's somebody who works here who might have used to
be an an an arena PA guy. And I brought
up the Mavericks p A guy before, and I'm just like, so,
now you're on the other side of it. You're doing

(01:20:24):
the play by play. I mean, listen, next time the
Rockets play the Mavericks up there at American Airlines. It's
every possession, Let's go Mads, Let's go Mads. It's just like, dude,
you can throw it out like every so often. Like
Jonathan Sandford here knows how to do the where he'll
kind of like in a piercing way, yell into the

(01:20:45):
microphone the defence and it's like, oh, okay, I heard that.
He's a PA announcer for dk R two. Yes, for
the techrse. He just does Longhorn games too as well,
so he's, uh, you know, Jonathan, I don't know if
you're listening, gonna put your business out there just a
little bit. Diehard Alabama guy really, So I'm gonna ask
him next time I see him and be like, so,

(01:21:05):
what's that gonna be like? When you know you're on
the mic and you've got Calen de Boor in Alabama
in town.

Speaker 1 (01:21:11):
How how's that guy go? Yeah? How is that gonna go?

Speaker 2 (01:21:13):
Pro?

Speaker 4 (01:21:14):
Yeah? Yeah, he'll navigate? Yeah, seven seven ninety Bill, what's happening?

Speaker 1 (01:21:22):
Hey, good morning guys.

Speaker 15 (01:21:24):
You know you guys were talking about Notre Dame earlier
in the hour and if you look, Kirby Smart's kind
of an arrogant little troll, but he gets it done.

Speaker 1 (01:21:35):
He made a comment earlier in the week.

Speaker 15 (01:21:37):
They got Irish fans all all in their knots because
he compared Notre Dame to an sec like team and
they got all crazy about that. Let me tell you something,
that defense. He was right, that's the problem. He's ad
absolutely right. Didn't that Notre Dame team look like the

(01:21:59):
Alabama Championship kind of defenses? The Georgia kind of defenses
that they've played over the last four or five years.
Notre Dame has finally figured it out. That's how you
gotta go play defense. You gotta go get those kind
of kids, and they've got them finally after thirty years.
That was an impressive defense because it looked like a

(01:22:22):
team that Georgia sees all the time.

Speaker 4 (01:22:25):
And I mean, oh, go ahead, I'm sorry, no, no, no, please,
please can take and what Notre.

Speaker 15 (01:22:29):
Dame and what Notre Dame also has finally figured out,
much to their resistance over the last couple of decades, transfers.
They've had three straight quarterbacks out of the transfer portal.
All the big plays last night the kickoff returned kid Harrison,
the strip sacked by the end of the second half,

(01:22:51):
the touchdown right before the half, the field goal kicker Leonard,
two safeties in the secondary, all transfer. The guys that
made the biggest plays last night were transfer players from
Notre Dame. That is unheard of. They're finally figuring it
out and taking a step.

Speaker 5 (01:23:11):
What did you guys think?

Speaker 1 (01:23:12):
What did you think of Notre Dame last night?

Speaker 4 (01:23:14):
We'll appreciate the call, Bill, We got to get to
the top of our well, we're gonna talk. We're gonna
talk college football next. Anyways, I think Bill's right. I
mean I said it earlier that they're the physicality that
Notre Dame showed last night and the way that they
were able to fly around they've been doing all season long. Like,
I've just been impressed, man, and they do. Like they
those championship teams that Georgia had, the championship teams that

(01:23:35):
Alabama had, those defenses were insane.

Speaker 1 (01:23:39):
And that's what Notre Dame looked like last night. That's
the biggest thing is that they actually have athletes. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:23:44):
I mean in the past, they had some good players,
but across the board, you didn't have enough athletes to
beat Alabama, to beat Georgia, to beat Ohio State, any
of the other teams that they were running into and
finding a tough day against in some of these games.

Speaker 1 (01:23:59):
And now they do.

Speaker 4 (01:24:01):
You know, I think the part that can't be underscored,
and we talked about a little bit earlier, they don't
beat themselves. Like I mean, it's again the the you know,
intersports comparison. I remember a few years ago, after the
Astros just won their second world title, Jake Arietta was
doing that Barstool podcast and he had a line on
there where he said, they just don't lose like this

(01:24:23):
Notre Dame team, they just don't lose, like, they don't
beat themselves. They do the basics, right. They have better
athletes than they've had in the past, and they don't
make mistakes. And that's what I said yesterday is I
said if Georgia, Georgia might come back and win this game.
But I said, the only way that they're really gonna
have a chance to do that Notre Dame is gonna

(01:24:44):
have to make some mistakes. And they did trying to
go forth there on that fourth down. You're thinking, oh boy,
Georgie just scored that touchdown. You get stuffed right here.
They go down and score. Things are gonna start getting
squeaky on that sideline if that happens. Let's continue to
DISCUSSI about the college football playoffs. These semifinals are set.
Let's talk Georgia Notre Dame. Let's also look ahead at

(01:25:06):
some of these semifinal matchups next right here on SPORTSLOK
seven niney. But before we get to that, it's time
for the Spex, Wine, Spirits and Finer Foods Pick of
the week and drink of the week. Let's go to
the NFL Texans Titans on Sunday. Texans getting one and
a half points, give me the Texans plus one and
a half. The Titans just aren't very good. Texans should
get away with those points. And get the victory. And

the drink of the week is going to be the
freezer door margarita. As we enter into a new year,
let's look at some low cow recipes right there at

Aaron Wilson, NFL insider, going to join the show and
then coming up at nine o'clock this morning, National college
football insider Josh Pate will join Dan and I to
talk to college football. Notre Dame beat Georgia last night Dan,
just real quick. I know we hit on it a
little bit here. Were you surprised at the outcome of
Notre Dame taking out Georgia. I was surprised at Notre

(01:27:48):
Dame one. I was not surprised of how close the
game was. I mean I had told Georgia fans and
anybody that would listen, this was not going to be
an easy game. I expected eventually they were going to win,
because I mean they've been able to do that these
last few years in the playoffs, so being able to
overcome a slow starts and come back and show that

(01:28:11):
they're the better football team. But I just don't think
that they were better enough to overcome the mistakes, the
lack of offensive balance that they had, and just really
how just good of a team Notre Dame was. I mean,
Notre Dame got it into a position where they just said,
if we don't make mistakes, we win this game.

Speaker 1 (01:28:31):
They didn't make mistakes, bingo.

Speaker 4 (01:28:33):
They did not, and they advanced to playing the Capitol
One Orange Bowl against Penn State. Notre Dame or right
now early favorites at one and a half, and then
on the other side of the bracket, playing in the
Goody good Year Cotton Bowl Classic up in Dallas. It's
the University of Texas taken on Ohio State. Ohio State
favored by six. It's a bad matchup for Texas, it's

(01:28:54):
a bad matchup for anybody, especially to the way that
Ohio State's playing.

Speaker 1 (01:28:58):
Because, oh, what a funny concept.

Speaker 4 (01:29:00):
You know, I was watching that Michigan game, and you know,
the entire time I'm watching it with Megan's dad, my
my fiance's dad. I'm like, they do realize they have
Jeremiah Smith and a mechag Buca on their side, right Like,
like I'm just wanting to make sure that they realize.

Speaker 1 (01:29:13):
That they have those guys.

Speaker 4 (01:29:14):
They did not, But no, you know, we're going to
continue to try to run with Traveon Henderson and with
quin Shawn Judkins, which is not a bad idea if
you can actually run the football. They couldn't, and I
mean the last couple of games that they've played, what
have we seen Jeremiah Smith and a mechag Buca. And
then when those guys are stretching the field down the field,

(01:29:37):
funny enough, those boxes don't start getting loaded, so then
you can start handing off the ball. To Traveon Henderson
and the Quinn Shawn Judkins and you get the results
that you've seen.

Speaker 1 (01:29:45):
Yeah, it was it was like are they going to
cover Jeremiah Smith at all?

Speaker 11 (01:29:50):
Like?

Speaker 1 (01:29:52):
Can you cover him? Man?

Speaker 4 (01:29:53):
That's the other question too. He'll be eligible for the
draft what in two years? Two years, so he's a
freshman right now. Yeah, he'll continue to get the name,
image and likeness bag and he'll be living life right there.
And the funny thing is, you know people, are you
still surprised when a player is coming back? I mean,
you know LSU, for example, Garrett Nusmeyer just to announce

(01:30:15):
he's coming back.

Speaker 1 (01:30:16):
Yeah, and some people.

Speaker 4 (01:30:17):
Were wondering, could he have been, you know, one of
these guys that surprise people to be a first round
pick this year, and he said, I'm not ready.

Speaker 1 (01:30:25):
I'm coming back and he's going to get the bag.

Speaker 4 (01:30:27):
You would think nus Meyer's probably get some early Heisman
talk next year, right. He will absolutely garner that. Which
that's the funny thing for LSU fans. I mean, if
he can possibly bring it home. Can you imagine going
back to two thousand and six and telling an LSU
fan you know, hey, maybe quarterback play is not the
greatest thing for your program right now. But what if

(01:30:48):
I were to tell you in less than twenty years
you will have not one, not two, but three guys
that play the position and win the Heisman Trophy. They
think that you had a second head growing out out
of your head. Yeah, that's a pretty impressive man, when
you think about it. One other thing that I want
to hit on real quick, will continue to talk college football,
and then we'll have Aaron Wilson at eight thirty. I

(01:31:10):
saw this tweet yesterday from Brandon Walker of a barstool,
and he said, I must say it is interesting that
the fall of the SEC's dominance, the fall of Alabama,
and Georgia coming back to normal all happened as soon
as every team could start legally paying players.

Speaker 1 (01:31:27):
Kind of a good point.

Speaker 4 (01:31:28):
Well, I'm not saying that there's a fall of Alabama.
It's Kalen de Bor's first year. Well you know Nick
Saban going from Nick Saban to kayleb Board. No disrespect
to Kaallen de Bor, but that's just it's a big
drop off. The fall is relative because I mean what
Nick Saban did where I think what they went from
twenty ten to twenty twenty without losing more than one

(01:31:51):
regular season game. Yeah, and continuously winning the SEC, continuously
getting into the College Football Playoff, and in the long
no sing lines, winning the college Football Playoff as much
as they did.

Speaker 1 (01:32:03):
That run that they had will never be replicated.

Speaker 4 (01:32:06):
And especially now, for all of the belly aching about
the transfer portal, the transfer portal is giving us this
playoff right now, the transfer portal is creating parody in
college football.

Speaker 2 (01:32:17):
Yeh.

Speaker 4 (01:32:18):
Where I mean you might every once in a while
have a team that you just look at and you say,
nobody's beaten them. Twenty nineteen LSU, twenty twenty Alabama, you know,
USC after they did not win the national title that
one year, despite what some people want to try to
tell you. But the following year with Liner Bush, Lindale White,
everybody coming back, and they just absolutely just paddled Oklahoma

(01:32:40):
and that Orange Bowl breaks off. I Mean, there are
teams that you just look at and you just say they're.

Speaker 1 (01:32:47):
Good, Yeah, they're better, nobody's beating them.

Speaker 4 (01:32:49):
That's the problem this year is that, I mean you
look at it and ye I mean even coming into
the College Football Playoff when it was all twelve teams.
You were like, I don't necessarily know who's gonna win
this thing because some people were seeing Oregon and you
looked at Oregon and I said, outside of Ohio State,
who did they play and who did they necessarily look
impressive against. They got taken to the wire against a

(01:33:09):
bad Wisconsin team and they were able to win. And look,
there's value in winning close games. But it's funny too.
You talk about the SEC. This is coming from a
mile away. I can already see it. That's Ohio State.
Let's just say, beats Texas, which I think they will,
and beats either Penn State or Notre Dame and the

(01:33:30):
national title and two straight years of a Big Ten
national champion. It's coming. Man, You're going to have people
well maybe it's the Big Ten. Now my response will be, no,
it's not. Because the SEC doesn't have Purdue in their conference.
They don't have Michigan State in their conference, they don't
have Minnesota in their conference.

Speaker 1 (01:33:49):
Like do you get my point here? Like the SEC
part of what.

Speaker 4 (01:33:53):
Makes the conference what it is is that even the
eight to nine ten teams that are in that sixteen
team league, you go to their place, they can beat you.
And they're gonna have guys that are gonna have tons
of NFL futures in those programs. Like it's across the
board in the SEC. And I know that people, you know,
they get tired of hearing it in the SEC chants

(01:34:13):
and all these different things. I'm gonna go ahead and
venture to guess we're gonna have a draft in April. Correct, Yeah,
what conference will have the most players taken out of
said conference?

Speaker 1 (01:34:22):
It'll be the SEC? Bingo. Yeah, I just you know,
you go and you look.

Speaker 4 (01:34:26):
Just at the bowl games for the SEC, Florida dominated Tulane,
Texas obviously continuing to win. Tennessee got boat raced by
Ohio State, Oklahoma lost to Navy, Vanderbilt took down Georgia Tech,
Arkansas beat Texas Tech and fall flat on their face
to lose the USC. Shawn and I addressed that earlier

(01:34:49):
Missouri won, they beat Iowa, Michigan beats Alabama. Jalen Milroe
was just not very good down the stretch for Alabama.
Illinois took down South Carolina. South Caro line of played
played pretty good football, but Illinois just got past and.

Speaker 1 (01:35:05):
They were another team too.

Speaker 4 (01:35:06):
Like people are clowning Lane Kiffin for saying that they
wanted to prove a point last night. You beat a
backup quarterback on a duke team that probably played above
their ability all season. Okay, fine, but let's just say,
for the sake of argument, then that Penn States. He
went up and had to play Penn State or he

(01:35:28):
had to go who was the seven to ten matchup,
whoever it was. I think that was Penn State. But
the point is, like thinking that this team was necessarily
so deserving. You lost to Kentucky, you lost to Florida,
I mean, you lost to a good LSU team, not great,
and you want to try to tell everybody that you

(01:35:49):
were one of the twelve twelve best teams in the country.
Like Lane, I'm on your side, I really am, and
I love Lane Kiffin.

Speaker 1 (01:35:56):
I actually think that Lane. It's it's so fun to.

Speaker 4 (01:36:00):
See the career arc of a guy who went from
being daddy's boy who always failed upwards and never necessarily
proved that he belonged doing that job, and then he
went and coached with Nick Saban and he had the
Sabin blessing of No, this guy's actually a really good
football coach, and he also too, for a guy that
would run his mouth a lot, would start to pick

(01:36:20):
and choose his spots of when he does it and
where he does it. And I think he's starting to
feel himself a little again with some of his Twitter antics.
And then last night, did you see twice what he
did twice of taking the shot at Diego Pavia? Yeah,
he said it at the half he said, maybe we'll
file a What did he say, file a?

Speaker 1 (01:36:38):
Most who knows?

Speaker 4 (01:36:39):
Maybe Jackson Dark can get a waiver, and then he did.
And then he did it in the postgame interview too,
when Dart was with him. Yeah, it's it's Slaine Kiffen though,
Like that's just what he does.

Speaker 1 (01:36:48):
Man, it's fun. I enjoy it.

Speaker 4 (01:36:50):
I actually appreciate that you have personality and that you're
actually willing to show it because there's so many people
that are in his position of No, I'm a football coach.
I don't do these things, and it's just like, oh
my god, man, like, can you come off your high
horse just a little bit. You coach a game where
guys run around in helmets and pads and hit each other.

Speaker 1 (01:37:08):
Yeah, it's okay to have fun.

Speaker 4 (01:37:10):
It's it's it's required like I would like it seriously,
should be like I'm not asking you to be the
life of the party, but I'm also asking you to
not be the You know, We've seen it numerous times.
Kyle Shanahan likes to break this out all the time.
Sean Payton, people like that of, Oh, you don't know
what you're looking at. No, I think I have a
pretty good idea of seeing. It's eleven guys on one

(01:37:31):
side and eleven guys on the other. So tell me
in between there what I'm missing. Yeah, Jackson darr was
pretty good last night though. Twenty seven to thirty five,
four hundred and four yards passing four touchdowns.

Speaker 1 (01:37:41):
That's fine.

Speaker 4 (01:37:42):
Yeah, do it against Florida, do it against LSU, Yeah,
do it against Kentucky. Yeah, then we're not We're not
having this conversation. It's somebody else playing in the tax
Slayer Bowl.

Speaker 1 (01:37:51):
It's not you.

Speaker 4 (01:37:52):
Oh man, Oh straight triple Did you hear that? What's
he got against the tax Layer Bowl? I'm saying it's
not the college football playoff? Ohh man? Did you see
the Pop Tar Bowl? Pop Tar Bowl is awesome. That's
more prestigious than any of these damn college football playoffs.

Speaker 1 (01:38:06):
Although you know, I will.

Speaker 4 (01:38:07):
Say, because the Texas Bowl was just played in the
winning team obviously it was LSU beating Baylor that they
got the beef ribs as as their their sponsor as
Kinders or whatever.

Speaker 1 (01:38:19):
Yeah, Kinders.

Speaker 4 (01:38:20):
So David Fletcher with Lone Star Sports and Entertainment, next
time I see him at a Texans gamp, I'm gonna say, David, David, David,
I understand that we've done like the dowsing and all
of that, you know, with the Duke's Mayo Bowl and
everything else. Next year, barbecue sauce, Dalston barbecue so hard
pass why not? I'm not getting Dalaston barbecue sauce. I'm

(01:38:42):
not saying you have to get down. Just be the
head coach of the winning to say, if I was
winning football coach for one of those bowls, you're not
dowsing me and mayonnaise, and you're definitely not down to
barbecue sauce. I mean, of the two, I think we
can agree that barbecue sauce would probably be more preferable
over mayonnaise, Like I like mayonnaise on sandwiches. Yeah, burgers
burgers right, yea itself is disgusting. Yeah, it smells gross. Yeah,

(01:39:06):
but I like it. I have to have it all
my burgers and sandwiches.

Speaker 1 (01:39:09):
No, I that's the thing.

Speaker 4 (01:39:11):
Is is as an accompaniment to said sandwich or burger.

Speaker 1 (01:39:15):
It's great. Who is it that doesn't like Clinton Clay?

Speaker 11 (01:39:18):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (01:39:18):
Yeah, and Ranch doesn't doesn't like which with Ranch? I'm like,
I'm like, dude, Like I get it. It's it's a
smell thing. Like you know, there's certain people there there
they they are triggered in the foods that they like
because of smell. Some like, for the longest time, I
would never eat eggs for those two reasons. Smell and
also texture.

Speaker 1 (01:39:39):
Yeah that makes sense. That makes sense, except I don't know.
Then I grew up and I became an adult, right exactly.

Speaker 4 (01:39:45):
Yeah, Clan doesn't like Ranch either, Huh, dude, Ranch with everything? Dude,
I didn't realize everything. I realized it swung from both
sides of the plate.

Speaker 1 (01:39:52):
Wings. You gotta have it Ranch with pizza. Yes, what
are we doing?

Speaker 4 (01:39:58):
There's there's a certain U fast casual steak place that
I maintain has the best Ranch of anybody.

Speaker 2 (01:40:03):
Who is it?

Speaker 4 (01:40:04):
Uh, It's a part of uh, the the family of
restaurants from a guy that might own a basketball team. Oh,
they have a fantastic ranch. It's amazing, it's one of them.
It's yeah, Like I seriously want to ask every single
time of what do y'all do?

Speaker 6 (01:40:19):
This is that.

Speaker 4 (01:40:21):
It's also been for the longest time that you know,
restaurant ranch can never be replicated either at home or
store bought.

Speaker 1 (01:40:28):
It can't. You know what sneaky sneaky good ranch or
sneaky good buttermilk ranch is a fast food joint right
down the road. It's the box.

Speaker 4 (01:40:39):
Oh yeah, you ever have their buttermilk, the buttermilk sauce.
Oh god, remember the days of the old big Texas Cheeseburg.
Oh yeah, God, I'd love a big Texas Cheesburg curly
fries right there, and let's go. Let's go, man, I'm hungry.
All right, Let's let's keep talking about college football. Uh,
what's what should they do out the seating process? Let's

(01:41:01):
talk about it next on four stock seven to eighty.

Speaker 1 (01:41:04):
Let the celebration start.

Speaker 4 (01:41:06):
Wor Sean Salisbury The Jean Salsbury Show, Steve, what's happening?

Speaker 6 (01:41:14):
Hey?

Speaker 11 (01:41:15):
I decided to add to your story. The first thing
I'll brag a little bit because of your show yesterday.
I picked Notre Dame because I thought Texas is going
to lose in the fourth quarter. But I initially picked
Texas Pennis Day Ohio State in Georgia, but then I
picked Notre Dame because of you know that hit and
says seven day don't Anyways, that was right.

Speaker 16 (01:41:36):
But let's talk about mayonnaise. Thirty eight years ago. I'm
from Florida. I lived in New Orleans and I'm living
with a guy that had a bunch of girls that
came by and we used mayonnaise as a suntanning thing.
Water safety instructors back then, maybe not now. It's the
best suntan lotion you can use, but it ruins your clothes,

(01:42:01):
so I.

Speaker 11 (01:42:02):
Want you to know that.

Speaker 16 (01:42:03):
But it's a grace on tan Ocean.

Speaker 1 (01:42:06):
I don't. Yeah, I've heard of mayonnaise.

Speaker 2 (01:42:13):
You will run your clothes.

Speaker 16 (01:42:14):
Your best bathing suit. The girl she did it and
she loved it, but she owned her bathing suit. So anyways, that's.

Speaker 6 (01:42:22):
A little story.

Speaker 13 (01:42:25):
Appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (01:42:25):
Thank you.

Speaker 4 (01:42:26):
I don't trying may anytime.

Speaker 1 (01:42:30):
I was gonna say, I think I'll stick with the Tropic.

Speaker 4 (01:42:33):
The tone any of the others that there's a possibility
out there. I think that's the way I've heard of
mayonnaise is a hair product. I have heard that, which
again like it's got it. Which I actually started to
kind of get that feeling in my throat right there
when I started to think about the smell. You ever

(01:42:54):
have that happen, Like you just even like think of
it and it triggers whatever that is in your brain,
Like like I started to kind of have that right there,
and again, like I can't get through talking about it
without thinking about like how that smell of it just.

Speaker 1 (01:43:12):
Itself.

Speaker 4 (01:43:12):
Dude, If if I smell I'm literally having this if
I if I smell Jack Daniels, I will throw up.
If I smell what's the other? Oh God, that's that
nasty ass liquor whatever you want to call it? No,
uh god, what is it used to add?

Speaker 1 (01:43:35):
Red bull?

Speaker 4 (01:43:35):
And it was a shot Jaeger bomb Jaeger mister, Dude,
I smell Yer Jeger, Mister.

Speaker 1 (01:43:42):
I'm throwing up.

Speaker 4 (01:43:42):
So in college we drank way too much Jack Daniels
And this sounds bad, but in like my junior senior
year of high school, we got obsessed with Yager bombs
took way too many of those.

Speaker 1 (01:43:52):
If I smell either one of those, it was probably
the haircut video.

Speaker 2 (01:43:57):
It was.

Speaker 4 (01:43:58):
I'm out, dog, I'm so out if I smell either
of those. That's why I don't really drink whiskey. I
very rarely drink whiskey. Oh I do, I do not, See,
it's got to be the good stuff. I'm not doing
plastic bottles. I'm not doing anything that I have to
do breaks with cola Canadian Mist, not Canadian Mist. But
there was one Kentucky de Luxe that was because I mean,

(01:44:20):
you know a handle of the plastic wise ways a
PSA out there, and I know that you did the
spec spot earlier. If you buy anything that comes in
a plastic bottle, you are going to be hungover the
next day, despite your best efforts. Like it's going to happen. Vodka, Yes, yes,
it is happening. And for most of us were adults.

(01:44:42):
Most of us can afford to go pay the thirty
dollars to buy a glass handle of a certain vodka
that is made in Austin, Like we can afford to
do it.

Speaker 1 (01:44:53):
Yeah, do that? So was it?

Speaker 4 (01:44:55):
Junior sophomore junior year, junior year of high school. New
Year's Eve, we pulled a Hey mister over off Cali
Drive near the hospital off of nineteen sixty and forty five. Yeah,
got us a couple of plastic bottles of Canadian missed
and that's what we drank that night.

Speaker 1 (01:45:13):
That with the sugar.

Speaker 4 (01:45:14):
You know, maybe the Asper team if you go variety
right there, oh dude. And then freshman year at college,
we'd knocked down Taka vodka in big red bad, terrible bad.
But hey man, when you're eighteen in a broke college kid,
you know what I mean. I mean, there's that.

Speaker 1 (01:45:31):
I mean, you know it was it was natty time.
It was stone By. I was gonna say Keystone Stone Yeah, yeah, right, yeah,
I mean it was.

Speaker 4 (01:45:39):
It was huge because I mean obviously, you know you
could get thirty rack of it for fifteen bucks back
in the day. Yeah, exactly. I mean in fifteen bucks
for a thirty you fill up a tub, you fill
up a cooler, you know, even too. I mean you
go to some of the frat parties right there, like
a shout out to my guys who were sick ups
at Texas, and you'd go and they'd have the trash
cans filled with ice and just you know, reach in there,

(01:46:00):
grab you one. You are able to have. Have you
some of the uh the the uh courses dirty cousins.

Speaker 6 (01:46:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:46:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:46:08):
My first keg party in college was at Texas State.
I forgot what frat it was. I was just visiting
and uh visiting some friends and we were at a
black light party for some frat They had but ice,
Oh yeah on keg.

Speaker 1 (01:46:24):
Yeah. That's probably one of the worst hangovers I've ever
had in my life, because I mean that's the thing too.

Speaker 4 (01:46:29):
You get the heaviness factor right there, and I mean
that's you're You're not dealing with the with the top
of the top when it comes to that. So of course,
you know, even if you drink the premium stuff. Yeah,
I mean, as you get older, you don't bounce back
the way that you used to.

Speaker 1 (01:46:43):
I don't. Yeah, And that's that's for sure.

Speaker 4 (01:46:45):
And then when I uh transferred into soul Ross and
was started playing baseball again, I said the story a
couple of times on air. We we would leave weights
on a Friday afternoon, I stopped at the local Texaco.
It was called Uncle's right there on the corner Boom
six pack a tall Boy Miller Highlights for four ninety nine. Dude,
I can't tell college kids dream give you that champagne

(01:47:05):
a beer. I can't tell you how many times it
would be exactly as you just said. And then also
going down one twenty three, go to Don's fish camp
right there San Marcus be able to have a good time.

Speaker 1 (01:47:16):
Don Don was a legend there.

Speaker 4 (01:47:18):
I mean, if anybody that went to Texas State, Brad,
I know you're probably listening. Uh, there was a guy
that owned a plot of land right there on the
San Marcus River, This old guy who had sun dried
skin like it was leather at this point, and he
would wear measuring tape suspenders and he would make sure
you paid too.

Speaker 1 (01:47:37):
If you're gonna be on his land, you're paying.

Speaker 4 (01:47:38):
Yeah, you know you give you give me my ten
bucks and you can stay here, you can all yeah,
and yeah, Don Don is a legend. I I can't
believe that Don.

Speaker 1 (01:47:50):
Is still with us. Is he still around?

Speaker 4 (01:47:52):
I would not believe that he is. That's crazy, because
I mean, he Don Don was. Don was was was
on the back nine back when I was in college.
Now is about twenty years ago, geez, he might be
though you never know. I mean that's those are the
guys that would stand. Those are the guys that make it. Yeah,
you know it's all the people. Oh yeah, you know
he was a jogger. He here's all these things, which

(01:48:12):
healthy lifestyle, fantastic. But then it's like, you know, the
people drinking smoke and you're like, how are you still
doing this?

Speaker 1 (01:48:18):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:48:18):
Like the lady that lived to like one hundred and
five and she was like, I drank a doctor pepper
every day.

Speaker 1 (01:48:23):
It's saved my life. Keith Richards.

Speaker 4 (01:48:25):
Yeah, I mean show there are scientists who are trying
to study that guy and being like, dude, how are
you still doing this?

Speaker 2 (01:48:31):
Yeah?

Speaker 13 (01:48:32):
How?

Speaker 4 (01:48:32):
All right, let's get to break because we got to
welcome in NFL insider Aaron Wilson to the show.

Speaker 1 (01:48:36):
Next in Sports Talk seven to eighty I Live out
the Shawn Salisbury Show continued.

Speaker 4 (01:48:43):
NFL insider Aaron Wilson to talk text and Titans. You
can find him on Twitter at Aaron Wilson Underscore NFL,
also doing great work for KPRC Channel through Sports and
also you can find his work on our website Sports
seven ninety dot com.

Speaker 1 (01:48:57):
Aaron, Welcome in Happy New Year, brother. Have you traveled
to Nashville yet?

Speaker 6 (01:49:03):
No, that would be really really early to go to Nashville. Yeah, no,
I'm not there yet. I'll be there though.

Speaker 1 (01:49:09):
I don't know. Man, it's new Year, k new me.
I thought maybe you want to go hit Broadway. I
don't know. I'm just curious.

Speaker 6 (01:49:13):
You know, that sounds fun. But obviously here as long
as I can until it's time to go to the
game and then cover.

Speaker 1 (01:49:23):
The game to get on hold all right, and talking
about that game? How long? How much do you think
these starters are going to play for the Texans?

Speaker 6 (01:49:31):
Leading between the lines with things I've been hearing, he's
gonna play it by ear, but he's got something of
a plan where let's say there's a lead, he could
get guys out of there. I think it's gonna be
a field thing, not something that's written and snown how's
the game going, and then he'll sub some guys. I

(01:49:53):
think a lot of it will have to do with
not just health, but like getting some guys in a flow.
So you know, he'd like to see j to throw
some passes to Deontay Johnson things like that. Uh No,
I don't think it's that important for say like an
Eagle Collins visual mixing. But there's many selective cases you

(01:50:14):
could make for why. But talking of players, they say
they like his plan. They think they need this, that
they need to play better heading into the postseason, and.

Speaker 11 (01:50:25):
I agree with that.

Speaker 6 (01:50:26):
I think, you know, obviously the best play plans.

Speaker 1 (01:50:29):
You hope that.

Speaker 6 (01:50:30):
I think it was awry, but you know, the worst
case scenario is you get more banged up, you move
somebody dangery. But I mean you can't in case these
guys in glass and then you say, okay, we're just
gonna have everybody wait till the playoffs. I mean, you
play the football game. I don't think the Titans are

(01:50:51):
really going all out and there's about alternating quarterbacks, none
of that. Game that should be able to win. But
the game doesn't mean anything. I mean, it looks better
to have ten wins. I mean, what's the difference. The
biggest thing is just getting in a better groove for
the playoff game. And we'll see. Doesn't look like the

(01:51:12):
Browns are going all out. They're putting Bailey Zappi out there,
so we'll see. I mean it's looking like he'll probably
be the Steelers. We may shape up again.

Speaker 4 (01:51:22):
Aaron Wilson join us for his weekly visit here on
the Sean Salisbury Show. You can find him on Twitter
at Aaron Wilson Underscore NFL. You mentioned it being a
case by case basis me and Sean were talking earlier.
Ziz Al Shaier has not played football in three weeks.
Christian Harris only started playing about three weeks ago.

Speaker 1 (01:51:39):
I mean, are are.

Speaker 4 (01:51:40):
Those some of the guys that case by case you
can look at and say, you know, when you look
at the participation report at the end of this game,
that they probably have some of the most reps out there, right.

Speaker 6 (01:51:51):
Yeah, I think they want to let those guys continue
to shit Russ for as ease, and he's missed a
lot of football and they'd like to give him back
on the field and have an opportunity to get him
playing the way he can before the playoff game. He
can really give them a shot in the arm. Having
a linebacker like that that also can cover, that's been

(01:52:12):
a sore point for the defense during his absence and
the things that have happened with pass coverage at the
linebacker position. So yeah, I think that's the move. They're
gonna both they're both excited, they're gonna play together. I
know they're playing. I think they'll try to get those
guys in some kind of groove heading into postseason. But

(01:52:36):
it's onny EASi individual guys. You know, how much time
do you need? How long does it take for the
instincts and everything to kick back in.

Speaker 4 (01:52:45):
Aaron the addition of Deontay Johnson to this Texans roster
being claimed off waivers, obviously everything that's been made about
his season being traded and now he's with the Texans.
How much time do you think he really needs to
try to get in tune with this offense.

Speaker 6 (01:53:03):
I think he needs to play probably half the game.
That's that would help. Just don't know how many of
the players he actually knows, so you know, he's go
out of the route tree down. He's an accomplished wide receiver,
so Bill, they can go over to the huddle. Hey,
I'm gona thraw you this. I'm afray you that. I

(01:53:25):
think there's some design stuff for him and you know,
some touches. Nothing would surprise me, but I could see
him catching three or four passes.

Speaker 4 (01:53:37):
Yeah, I mean, and that's The thing is, you know,
you talk about, you know, just what his production can be.
I mean for Texans fans out there who are looking
for somebody to go alongside Nico Collins and actually be
able to help out c J.

Speaker 1 (01:53:50):
Stroud in this offense.

Speaker 4 (01:53:52):
Is Johnson a guy that in this short amount of
period can be somebody that could be a viable number two.

Speaker 11 (01:54:00):
He can.

Speaker 6 (01:54:01):
It's just you know, you look at you know, the
skill set, it's there. It's just he's always had problems
with getting upset. I think he's gonna have the opposite problem.
I think they're gonna give him the ball. He doesn't
get the ball, gets mad. That's that's in the pattern,
and he get You can be happy one moment and

(01:54:21):
then he gets angry. He's had some most of downs
so far or nothing but good reviews. He's you know,
just studying and happy to be here and he likes it.
And this is a place that he was interested in
playing him before. I didn't didn't really engage in any
trade talks, but he wanted that to happen to us

(01:54:42):
of the team he's been interested in. He met c J.
Shadded autograph signing, and they hit it off and yet
so far, we're hearing a lot of good things. I
don't know if you caught Joe Mixon's podium interview, he
was getting an award from from us from the local
Little Writers Trap for media. Good guy, uh for his

(01:55:03):
cooperation with media this year, which has been different from
the way he was in Cincinnati. But he's had a
good relationship with us. But he brought up Deontay Johnson
and he went on and on about what this guy
can do and the people are like what they see
from him. And I think it was interesting because players
no players, and Joe is so authentic. I thought that

(01:55:26):
was really interesting to hear how affusive he was about
Deyontay Johnson.

Speaker 4 (01:55:34):
Speaking of Joe Mixon, I know you asked de Mikhel
Ryans earlier this week about trying to jump start this
running game because it's been you know, quote unquote stuck
in neutral if you will. What do you think needs
to happen for Joe Mixon to get back to you know,
at least rushing for over one hundred yards. Is it
a combination of Joe Mixon and the offensive line or

(01:55:56):
is it just single handled of the offensive I just
has to block better on run plays.

Speaker 6 (01:56:00):
Well, it's always both guys. I mean, he's got to
still break the tackles and hit the hole and make
something happen, makes what he miss. I think he can
be a little more elusive, and he's been kind of
just plowed straight ahead and so he's runs. So but
Dave also got to open up better holes. And oh
geh Scruggs is going back out there. He's gonna play

(01:56:21):
right guard.

Speaker 11 (01:56:21):
You get Jerry.

Speaker 6 (01:56:22):
Patterson's center, You've got pet of Howard of course at
left guard, Larry Tunsall, and that right tackles Blake Fisher.
They need to have a better performance. I mean the
way they play against the Ravens terms of how they
picked up stunts or didn't pick them up, and the
run blocking was non existent. They had to abandon the
running games, so they didn't do anything well as Bobby

(01:56:43):
slowly committed against the Ravens. So the offense, to me,
they're the ones with the lots proof.

Speaker 4 (01:56:51):
Aaron Wilson again join us here on the Sean Salisbury Show.
You know, Aaron, we were talking about Jared Patterson a
little bit earlier. I mean, what have you seen from
his play this year? And do you think that he's
done enough that, even with the changes that we believe
are going to come to this offensive line this offseason,
that he's earned the right to go in the next

(01:57:11):
season as the starting center.

Speaker 6 (01:57:14):
I can see that happening. I don't know if they're
worried about Sharrett really. I think they think he does
a solid job. It's a good technique. He plays with
decent pad level for a tall guy, and it really
matters to him. You can probably see in his face
and the effort how much the game means to him.
He's got a lot of intangibles. He's good at the

(01:57:36):
line calls, which was a problem before With you scrugs,
I would say that Jarrett's got to keep getting bigger
and stronger. That's his weakness. He's got to be a bigger,
more powerful lineman. But he is really in front of
you on pass pro and the guy that works, hard working,

(01:58:00):
gritty lineman.

Speaker 3 (01:58:01):
That you know.

Speaker 6 (01:58:02):
I would say he hasn't been a problem. If anything,
I think he's been kind of an asset for them.
I just don't know, is there's something behind door number
two that's just a huge upgrade if they can find that.
Great but if not, I think they'd be comfortable with Patterson.

Speaker 4 (01:58:18):
A couple more minutes with NFL insider Aaron Wilson, covering
the Texans and the NFL for KPRC Channel two Sports.
You can find him on Twitter at Aaron Wilson Underscore NFL.

Speaker 1 (01:58:29):
All right, Aaron, talking about the Pro Bowl.

Speaker 4 (01:58:31):
You had a couple guys for the Texans that made
the Pro Bowl in Derrek Stingle, the junior Nico Collins,
Joe Mixon, Laramie Tunsel. Then you have a list of
alternates as well. Are you surprised that Neil Hunter is
just an alternate and not a first ballot Pro Bowler?

Speaker 6 (01:58:48):
I thought it was a snub, but I also think
I understand what happens. So you've got Will Anderson Jr.
Returning Pro Bowl Guy, Steel Hunter, four time Pro Bowl Guy,
third in the NFL, and facts he's the one that
really had more of the splash plays and the stats.
Will had a great season too, But I thought that

(01:59:08):
Danil was just sort of a cut above. And what
I think happened is that they split the votes. So
let's say you're a coach or a player and you're
doing the balloting. They were up there for the fan balloting.
Coaches and players matter. Mort's two thirds of the vote,
and guys probably like some guys, oh well, you know,
I like Anderson or I like Hunter. I'm not giving

(01:59:33):
them both my Pro Bowl votes. You know, there's the
Trey Hendrickson's, there's other rushers, Jonathan Gernard on the NFC squad,
I mean the AFC. You know, you've got Hendrickson, You've
got some other good defensive linemen, you know, like Crowdsy's
not going to play in the game. So Danil will
get in if he wants to go to the Pro
Bowl games, which is just flag football. It's really not

(01:59:56):
about the game anymore. That's nothing. It's just some guys
had this in their contract. Daniel is one of those guys.
But he had a million dollar Pro Bowl incentives, so
it cost him money.

Speaker 2 (02:00:07):
So that's real.

Speaker 6 (02:00:08):
It's a lot of money his incentive with Will He's
just in a rookie deal, so nothing like that. But yeah,
I thought Danil, but they made a mistake for him
not to make it, and I thought he should have
made it. And Will you know, maybe he's not. Maybe
he's the alternative of the two. But yeah, they both
are alternates. I'm sure Daniel get added to the game,

(02:00:31):
but he wasn't voting into it initially and that makes
a difference. So yeah, I would say it's it's just
a tough situation when you have two good edgreshers. Normally
teams don't have both guys make the Pro Bowl.

Speaker 4 (02:00:45):
All right, I got twenty seconds left for you, Aaron.
NFL Inside Aaron Wilson finishing up here on the Shawn
Salisbury Show.

Speaker 1 (02:00:51):
Give us your prediction. Texans Titans, who wins?

Speaker 6 (02:00:55):
I think the Texans win this game. I'm gonna go
with them. I'd say twenty four to thirteen.

Speaker 1 (02:01:02):
Twenty four to thirteen. Appreciate you.

Speaker 4 (02:01:04):
Aaron Wilson, NFL insider for KPRC Channel two Sports covering
the Texans and the NFL. You can find him on
Twitter at Aaron Wilson Underscore NFL. Aaron save travels out there,
Be careful, keep your head on a swivel as you
head to Nashville.

Speaker 1 (02:01:16):
Man, Well, appreciate it. We'll talk to you next week.

Speaker 6 (02:01:18):
Okay, thank you.

Speaker 4 (02:01:19):
Appreciate you, Aaron. Let's get to break. We'll continue to
talk to these Texans next.

Speaker 6 (02:01:25):
More.

Speaker 4 (02:01:26):
Sean Salisbury, get in, strap in and ride in college
football landscape for CBS Sports, CBS Sports HQ. We'll have
some good stuff with him. Him and Dan used to
work together, so it'll be a good interview.

Speaker 1 (02:01:42):
Triple. Are you gonna be betting on some sports this
weekend or what I might bet on his? Detroit in Minnesota, gang, Yeah,
that's gonna be a good one, man.

Speaker 4 (02:01:51):
Yeah, may it's gonna be that Sunday Night seven twenty
Vikings at the Lions. Whoever wins is the number one
seed gets home field advantage in the NFC. Whoever loses
drops to the drops to the five seed.

Speaker 1 (02:02:03):
Man, I got Detroit.

Speaker 4 (02:02:06):
Yeah, I think Detroit's gonna win as well. But that's
that's I mean, dude. The both teams are so good.

Speaker 6 (02:02:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:02:11):
The Lions are beat up, they're injured as hell, and
they still are finding ways to win. And I love
Dan Campbell, but you can but Kevin O'Connell and the Vikings. Man,
oh my, Sam Darnold what he's doing. Justin Jefferson and
shout out to their defense. Their defense is nasty. Jonathan
Garnard playing good football once again. Obviously he used to

(02:02:31):
be with the Texans. So that's gonna be a badass
game Sunday night. Yes, I may have to stay up
for the whole whole game on that one, because usually
if it's a yeah, usually if it's a lame ass
game or something I'm not paying attention to, I'm I'm
usually asleep by about nine to nine thirty. But this one, uh,
talking Lions and Vikings on Sunday night. Oh, it's happening,
And that's that's gonna be the one that gonna have

(02:02:53):
the closest attention to this weekend. I mean, you got
some good ones tomorrow too as well. I want to say,
it's both of the AFC North's are going, so we'll
know what's gonna happen with that playoff picture at that point.
Cleveland at Baltimore since he at Pittsburgh seven. Yeah, that's uh,

(02:03:14):
Baltimore's favored by twenty.

Speaker 1 (02:03:19):
Bailey.

Speaker 4 (02:03:19):
Bailey's happy is that it is not necessarily inspiring a
ton of confidence. No, it neither is anything related to
the Browns. I mean, look, you know, nice story last year.
It was fun for them while it lasted, which didn't
last very long. But I mean that's that's what you
are as a fan base at this point, and it's

(02:03:41):
past this point too. I mean, it's it's baked into
the fabric of that organization. And yeah, it's it's another
banner year for for Cleveland Browns football. What do you
think the line is right now for Houston at Tennessee?

Speaker 1 (02:03:57):
What was it?

Speaker 4 (02:03:58):
I saw it was Tennessee minus one? Right, Tennessee might
as one and a half. Oh, so the sharps are
coming in on the Titans.

Speaker 1 (02:04:05):
Okay, interesting? What the what?

Speaker 4 (02:04:09):
Because I mean, when it comes to the spread this year,
the Texans have not necessarily done a bang up job
of being able to cover said spread, and even when
they are favored. I mean, I mean that's that's been
the biggest one of all. But yeah, the Texans have
not been a good spread team this year. So is
Mason Rudolph starting for the Titans?

Speaker 1 (02:04:29):
I think so? And then I don't think Tony Powler
is gonna play? Okay, well they think he was.

Speaker 4 (02:04:35):
Yeah, he's questionable. That's what that's that's the great equalizer
right there. I mean I say that kind of half joking,
but I mean he was the reason why they won
the first time.

Speaker 1 (02:04:43):
Yeah, one of them.

Speaker 4 (02:04:45):
Yeahs in addition to you somewhat made Will Levis look
like a capable NFL starting quarterback. That was the most
unforgivable part of that game. Like that, It was just like,
my god, man, this guy's awful and you're somehow like
for for all of the great things we've heard about
this defense this year, Yeah, and I mean it's it's
spots where they don't make the plays that you're just

(02:05:07):
kind of like, are we really gonna keep doing.

Speaker 1 (02:05:09):
This with this defense thing?

Speaker 2 (02:05:10):
Man?

Speaker 1 (02:05:10):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (02:05:11):
Dude, you know, uh, you know how listeners butcher the
hell out of everybody's professional athletes names Alex Bergman, Alex Breckman,
you got Hosey, Josey A Bray who like things like that. Well,
they're not helped by also Joe A. Spotta calling him Hosey. Yeah.
When we were recovering the draft with Will Levis, C J. Stroud,

(02:05:34):
that whole draft class, there was a guy that kept
calling in and he would call him Bill Levins. Will
Levis called Bill Levin, Bill Bates, Dorsey Levins. Yeah, Bill
Levis mixed the two names right together, and that's how
you get you get, you get Bill Levins. I like
it thougheah, I mean it's he, He's what's the old
that's not my name. You're not good enough for me

(02:05:55):
to understand that your name is yeah, exactly. Let's get
to the top of the nine o'clock hour. We're gonna
welcome in Josh Payton, national college football insider for CBS Sports,
CBS Sports HU. That is next right here on seven
ninety ad E.

Speaker 4 (02:07:01):

good buddy. He's Josh Pate, Cbsports dot Com, CBS Sports HQ,
host of Josh Pat's College Football show. He's on YouTube,
he is on social media, he is, like I said.

Speaker 1 (02:07:17):
On terrestrial TV. He is right there.

Speaker 4 (02:07:21):
If they're is severe weather coming to your area, that's
where we can find you.

Speaker 1 (02:07:25):
Josh, what do you not do? Like, tell us what
you don't do.

Speaker 14 (02:07:30):
I don't fish as much as I would like to, Daniel,
I need to really get in the resolution spirit right
now and carve out some time in February or June.
So yeah, that's my answer. I think most people think
you're swerving them when.

Speaker 2 (02:07:45):
You talk about the severe weather, but it is a
very real thing people, very real.

Speaker 1 (02:07:48):
No, it is. It is.

Speaker 4 (02:07:49):
You follow my guy on social media during springstorm season,
and he's putting in extra work in addition to his
college football work, no doubt about it.

Speaker 1 (02:07:59):
So Josh, let's start.

Speaker 4 (02:08:00):
I mean, we've been talking all morning about yesterday's game
in New Orleans, but of course our audience here they
care more about what happened the day before in Atlanta
between Texas and Arizona State. Was there anything that necessarily
surprised you in that game? And do you think that
Texas might have shown some wartz in that effort against
Arizona State?

Speaker 2 (02:08:21):
Yeah?

Speaker 14 (02:08:23):
I am like gobsmacked, And you know how rarely I
use that word. I am gobsmacked that they got out
rushed to the degree they did. I was in a
situation so we were out at the rose Bow. We
were doing pregame stuff on the field, so you know,
you're kind of trying to keep your eye on the
big screen. You're trying to keep your eye on the game,
but you're not really able to follow it in real time.

(02:08:44):
So I was in a situation where I knew the
game goes to overtime. I see the ending, but I
don't know how the game is played out. When I
went back and I watched that full game, and I
looked at box and I looked at all the numbers
that is on paper, not a game Texas is supposed
to win. I never thought I'd say that now they
won the game, they get full credit and they move
on and all that. But I never I thought if

(02:09:07):
I thought if Arizona State even hung in the game,
it would look like the Georgia first half where Texas
has tilted the box score but somehow they just kind
of kept the other team in it. In this case,
it would be Arizona State, and that wasn't the case,
so that surprised.

Speaker 2 (02:09:22):
Me a lot.

Speaker 14 (02:09:23):
I don't know, you know, I don't know what to
make defensively of the fact that they gave up a
season high and it did go to overtime, but they
gave up a season high in point total. But also,
you play the best players you face this time of year.
I know everyone says, well, it was a big twelve team. Yeah,
that tailback, though, is better than any of you faced

(02:09:44):
all year. And it's a dynamic player obviously, so he's
a threat catching the ball as well. And then also
you always have that lingering question in the back of
your mind. It's not a criticism, it's just a question.
When you didn't play a schedule loaded with high level teams,
you look at your stat profile on paper and you

(02:10:04):
always wonder is it going to stand up? I thought
that about Notre Dame going into last night. Well the
answer was it held up. So I wondered about Texas
and look what we got about eight or nine days,
and then we will get a definitive answer.

Speaker 2 (02:10:18):
On whether it's going to stand up.

Speaker 14 (02:10:20):
But that stuff can either be a wake It can
either be a wake up call to you, or it
could be a sign of trouble down the road. And
they've just got to decide because I will tell you this,
if they go on to lose by double digits to
Ohio State, it won't because Texas doesn't have the players.

Speaker 2 (02:10:36):
I'll put it that way.

Speaker 14 (02:10:37):
They got a plenty good enough locker room, They got
a plenty good enough roster to match up with anyone.

Speaker 2 (02:10:42):
It's just that styles make fights. Match ups dictate fights.

Speaker 14 (02:10:45):
And we got a big one coming in in Arlington,
Texas in a few days.

Speaker 4 (02:10:50):
And I want to get back to the run game.
You just brought it up. I mean, they had some
injuries before the season, CJ. Baxter going down, Trey Wisner
able to step in, Jaden Blue. I mean, you know,
I sense a little bit of disappointment in terms of
how they looked against Arizona States. And I mean this
c in Ohio State defensive front with Jack Sawyer Tuimolowau

(02:11:11):
that they get after opposing team's run games. I mean,
is that something that is say, you know, as you
start to kind of plug in the matchups in this game,
that starts to set off red flags for you.

Speaker 14 (02:11:22):
Yeah, it does, and you know it's twofold It's not
just that Texas couldn't run the ball, it's Arizona State did.
So it's twofold there. And then the other part about
that is you push it forward is I don't know
how the Ohio State game will play out, but I
just I've watched them from field level the last two

(02:11:42):
games they played. I would not count on being able
to score a bunch of points against that team. Tennessee
was completely stoned. Oregon was mostly stoned until it was
thirty four to nothing. And so I've got to ask myself,
you know, if I can't can't clear my throat, if
I can't count on getting thirty five, what do I

(02:12:05):
have to hold them to?

Speaker 2 (02:12:06):
You know? And like what style do I have to play?

Speaker 14 (02:12:08):
So it's all complimentary. That's the beauty of football. But
I as much as them not running the ball surprised me,
it was the fact that they didn't in.

Speaker 2 (02:12:18):
Arizona State did. And that is a Texas defense. I
don't know.

Speaker 14 (02:12:22):
I just don't expect that from them.

Speaker 1 (02:12:24):
That's not something I.

Speaker 2 (02:12:24):
Expect to see. And if you do it, I mean
it has.

Speaker 14 (02:12:28):
To be an all world effort. And I'll give Sketuboo
all the credit in the world. But here's the problem.
Ohio State's got a few of those dudes too. I'm
not disrespecting Cam Sketubo. I'm talking about in the aggregate.
They got Jeremiah Smith out there, they got a BUCA,
they got.

Speaker 2 (02:12:41):
Henderson in the backfield. I mean, they got.

Speaker 14 (02:12:44):
They They've got players everywhere, and that offensive line has
taken a couple of huge hits which you thought may.

Speaker 2 (02:12:51):
Have been detrimental.

Speaker 14 (02:12:52):
And you can't even tell right now, Washington, you can't
even tell.

Speaker 4 (02:12:57):
Josh Bade again joining us here on the Seawn Salisbury Show,
Dan Matthews, Brian Alma, Triple E, Emmanuel Elmore. Find him
on Twitter at Josh Pate CFB. He's the host of
Josh Pate's College Football Show, and again you can find it.
It's on YouTube, social media, CBS Sports HQ, part of
CBS Sports. And you know, Josh, I mean, I don't

(02:13:17):
want to put the cart too far ahead of the horse,
because I mean, there's still a season. He's still playing
and Quinn Ewers is the quarterback at Texas. But I mean,
we do this all the time. We look to the
future and people want to go ahead and start the
arch Manning experience. So let's just say, for the sake
of argument right here, Texas wins next Friday night against

(02:13:38):
Ohio State, they go play in the National Championship Game,
and let's say they play Notre.

Speaker 1 (02:13:43):
Dame and they win that game.

Speaker 4 (02:13:45):
Are we really looking at a scenario where people at
Texas could tell Quinn, hey, man, it's been awesome, but
it's time for this guy now.

Speaker 2 (02:13:54):
Yeah, I do think so.

Speaker 14 (02:13:56):
I think that's the situation in a few places right now.
I don't know what Alabama's even gonna do, but I
don't necessarily know that. You know, Jalen Milroe just had
a door swinging wide open for him to come back
and start again if he wanted it.

Speaker 13 (02:14:11):
So that's the way it happened.

Speaker 14 (02:14:12):
And look, they don't even have an arch Manning sitting
behind him at Alabama. But I just think there's such
a there's a need to keep things moving, keep the
water moving through the pipe, so to speak, in college football.
And when you recruit like Texas, I mean, you stat
quarterback talent like that, everybody is looked forward to this

(02:14:34):
arch Manning, the Manning family like they've handled it the
right way, which is not a surprise, but it's all
been with the understanding that twenty twenty five and beyond
that's the year that's when that era starts. I think
Quinn Ewers understands that as well. So then you of course,
like you mentioned the storybook, like part two of that
was always and it makes sense because he'll go to

(02:14:56):
the draft. Well if he doesn't, you know, if he
doesn't like the feedback he gets, but the season just
ended in storybook fashion, then that's normally just a script
for you to do what Carson Beck did come back
to school.

Speaker 2 (02:15:08):
Well, if you got the.

Speaker 14 (02:15:09):
Situation Texas has, that's a little bit different storybook. So
you've got a multiple scenarios there. None of them would
surprise me. The only one that would really surprise me
a lot is if he were back starting for Texas
again next year.

Speaker 4 (02:15:24):
A couple more minutes again with Josh Pates of CBS
Sports Josh Pat's College Football Show. You can view its
every Sunday Tuesday Thursday, eight pm Eastern as part of
CBS Sports.

Speaker 1 (02:15:36):
CBS Sports HQ.

Speaker 4 (02:15:38):
YouTube is also another place that you can be able
to catch the show. Let's talk about yesterday, I mean
I mentioned it at the top of our conversation, what
happened in New Orleans Georgia Notre Dame. Did you come
away from that game necessarily saying Notre Dame flat out,
they just they beat him. They were more physical, they
were more athletic. Or did you say that Georgia was

(02:15:59):
the one who really made it easier for Notre Dame
to come out the way they did.

Speaker 2 (02:16:04):
No, that's Notre Dame. That is totally Notre Dame.

Speaker 14 (02:16:07):
I know that turnovers ended up being a difference, but
if you'll notice, they were very very much forced turnovers.

Speaker 2 (02:16:14):
I mean, Notre Dames got after them. Notre Dame.

Speaker 14 (02:16:17):
I'm surprised they didn't force more turnovers than they did honestly,
and they played authentic to their brand, so it.

Speaker 2 (02:16:24):
Wasn't some one off performance.

Speaker 14 (02:16:26):
I think a lot of people dan have not watched
Notre Dame play a lot. I think they watched them
in the late fourth quarter against Northern Illinois because they
got alerted that there was an upset underway.

Speaker 2 (02:16:37):
So they may have seen that.

Speaker 14 (02:16:38):
They saw them in Week one against A and M,
but after that they've just seen box scores and highlights. Well,
this is how Notre Dame plays and they did two
things that, boy, I don't know if I've ever said
in conjunction. They out hit and out coached Georgia, and
that is look yet, it is a little bit of

(02:16:58):
a knock on Georgia, but it is a supreme compliment
to Notre Dame. And so my question anytime someone relies
heavily on turnovers and special teams and defense and you
can get ninety yards passing from your quarterback and still win,
I wonder is that duplicable? Is it scalable when you
go play better teams in this case in the playoffs. Well,

(02:17:21):
they just did it two times and they really needed
it against Georgia, and they did it that don't need
it again against Penn State, and they'll need it again
if they get past them, if they don't win another game.

Speaker 2 (02:17:34):
It's been a phenomenal ride this year for them.

Speaker 14 (02:17:36):
But I think that they are uniquely equipped to be
the crowbar in the bicycle spokes to a really good offense.
So I'm kind of excited to see that because if
it's Notre Dame that ends up going to the final,
you have such a clash in styles and it feels
a lot like Michigan from the past couple of years
when they would face these teams, you think, all Michigan

(02:17:57):
can't completely slow down that offense. Well, that's not the
way to sport works. If you have the right kind
of defense, you can face an elite offense and it
goes from clicking to completely grinding to a halt. Thus
the crowbar and the bicycle spokes theory get you out.

Speaker 4 (02:18:11):
The door on this. I mean, we know who these
teams are at this point. I mean, you're gonna have Texas,
Ohio State and the Cotton Bowl. You're gonna have Penn
State Notre Dame in the other How are you seeing
these games go? I mean, how do you think that
we are? Who do you think that we're going to
see in Atlanta playing for it all?

Speaker 14 (02:18:30):
So I am going to make a little adjustment in
my calculus here with Ohio State. I know how the
sport works. I know if if you played your off
brand like Texas just did, and the other guy plays
the best two games that he could possibly play, College
football normally says there's a progression and regression to the memes,

(02:18:53):
and that's why that.

Speaker 1 (02:18:54):
Line's not ten.

Speaker 2 (02:18:55):
That's why it's five and a half.

Speaker 14 (02:18:58):
I am going to be proven wrong by Ohio State
losing from this point out because I just picked Oregon
and got humiliated out in California, so I don't want
to do that again. So I am going to pick
Ohio State until further notice.

Speaker 5 (02:19:12):
And then I don't know Dan.

Speaker 14 (02:19:13):
I slightly lean Penn State against Notre Dame, but that's
the one I hadn't made my mind up on yet.
Not to say I couldn't be talked back into Texas,
but I feel a little more seventy thirty confident there
Notre Dame Penn State. I have not I have not
really landed on anything. So if you have some ideas,
feel free to text them to me.

Speaker 4 (02:19:32):
I was gonna say it seems like Vegas is in
the same vein right there, of going believe Notre Dame
a point and a half favorite in that one, so
it's going to be a closely contested one there in
South Florida. And speaking of South Florida, that's one of
the last time as I hung out with this guy,
Josh Pate at Josh Pate's CFB on Twitter, host of
The Josh Pates College Football Show, part of CBS Sports

(02:19:55):
CBS Sports HQ. Josh, I hope I did not, you know,
stop you from in the back and bicep work today
or I don't know what what is it?

Speaker 1 (02:20:03):
Chest and tries? What are we going today?

Speaker 2 (02:20:06):
Strictly shoulders today.

Speaker 1 (02:20:07):
Strictly shoulders? All right? All right, l Lima can can
back you up on that.

Speaker 4 (02:20:12):
Apparently, Josh, you're you give me a run for my
money in the gym, and I'm not the smallest guy around,
but they got high praise for your boulder shoulders around here.

Speaker 14 (02:20:21):
Well, I've been on the road for a month and
a half, so just ignore all that praise right now,
it's non existent.

Speaker 1 (02:20:26):
Well, I'll tell you what Josh Dan told me a story.
You're like me.

Speaker 4 (02:20:28):
Anytime I travel, I don't go to the hotel gym.
I find a gym somewhere around town and I go
get myself workouts in.

Speaker 1 (02:20:34):
So we're on the same pace.

Speaker 14 (02:20:35):
When it comes to that, I am choosing hotels based
on proximity to the local YMCA.

Speaker 2 (02:20:40):
Right now, that's what my life has become.

Speaker 1 (02:20:42):
That's what that's exactly my life. When I travel.

Speaker 4 (02:20:44):
I coach select baseball during the summers, and I have
to have a hotel near a nice gym, So maybe
me and you and I could get a workout in
some day and Dan can go drink for us.

Speaker 1 (02:20:51):
There you go. I like that. You're the best. Buddy.

Speaker 4 (02:20:55):
Josh Paton again joining us here on the Sean Salisbury Show. Yeah,
you know it's it's sneers time and he hits the
ground running, you know, he's he's literally yeah, he absolutely
does and got the shoulder workout today. You know, there's
a lot of there's a lot of the muscle bound
guys in the business.

Speaker 1 (02:21:12):
You know him.

Speaker 4 (02:21:13):
You know, Peter Burns will surprise you. Burns he does.
You know, you'll get Chris Doring. You know, he's a
guy that knows where the gym is. And I'm trying
to think of who else out there that fits the profile.
So no, you got you got a lot of guys
that look like they could still get on the field
and play.

Speaker 1 (02:21:30):
Josh is one of them.

Speaker 4 (02:21:31):
So he's the best so Ohio State and Penn State,
you know, speaking of like how weird the storylines would be.
And we'll carry this on to the other side. I mean,
if that were the case, you're talking about somebody who
people stay could not win.

Speaker 1 (02:21:46):
The big game is going to be winning the national championship.
But he's crazy.

Speaker 4 (02:21:50):
That's college football playoff for you. So we can carry
that on to the other side again. It's The Seann
Salisbury Show, Dan Matthews, brian O, Lima, Triple E, Emmanuel
Elmore Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 5 (02:22:02):
The Salisbury Show continues.

Speaker 1 (02:22:05):
It's heartbreak, It's regrets. Where's the song is it? Hang
on to Me?

Speaker 4 (02:22:14):
Like Christopher Cross Run like the Wind. It's a song
about an outlaw that's trying to avoid the law. And
he wrote it in a van while they were driving
from Houston to Austin to record.

Speaker 1 (02:22:26):
It, and he was high on LSD. Oh nice. Yeah, hmm.
You ever heard the song too close By? Next?

Speaker 4 (02:22:33):
No triple you play that? Coming to next segment?

Speaker 1 (02:22:37):
Please? What's too close By? Next? Just gool with the lyrics,
I can imagine.

Speaker 4 (02:22:44):
I mean there's even some too that will like even
like old school like country music songs. Uh, Conway Twitter,
Like you look at the lyrics and you're kind of like,
whoa man? Conway was getting down? Yeah, Conway was trying
to get in where you fit in?

Speaker 1 (02:22:59):
Yeah, exactly was? It was just like geez man, this
is my grandpa was listening to this? What is this?
That's funny? Man?

Speaker 2 (02:23:07):
Hey? God?

Speaker 4 (02:23:08):
With the college football playoffs, obviously semifinals were next week,
a week from today. One of the games a week
from yesterday. One of the games a week from today,
the Rose Bowl Oregon, Ohio State. Obviously a blowout. But
it's like, that's the best scene of them all. Yeah,
the granddaddy of them all. Right, right, I feel like
and I saw Joel Klatt tweet this out and it

(02:23:30):
got me thinking, I feel like that should that should
be the national title.

Speaker 1 (02:23:34):
Every year there have been people who have said the
same thing.

Speaker 4 (02:23:37):
I've been to the Rose Bowl a handful of times,
and I mean it's exactly that. It's a great experience.
The backdrop the Sean Gabriel Mountains, you park on a
golf course when when you go to a game there,
and I mean that's you know, you're going through a neighborhood.
You're going through a neighborhood, You're looking at your uber
driver and you're like, are you sure this is the
right way, and then all of a sudden, this massive

(02:23:57):
park with the Rose Bowl stadium right there. You're just like,
oh man, that's pretty cool. But no, it's it's it's awesome.
I mean, they did have the national title out there
a few years ago at so Far Yeah, and it
was one of the few times that it's the rainy
weeks there in southern California and they had that and
it just happened to be that our auxiliary press seating

(02:24:20):
was up near one of the openings in the stadium
because it is open air on the sides there at
Sofi Stadium, just with the covering over the top, and
it started to come in sideways in addition to being about.

Speaker 1 (02:24:33):
Fifty degrees oh terrible. S Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:24:36):
It got to a point where they were like, hey,
you guys can come into the press box, you know,
if you want to, and we were like, yeah, yeah,
we're we're doing that. I'm not going to sit here anymore.
They came up with hand warmers at first, and I
was just like, yeah, that's that's nice. I mean, if
you guys could like put up like I don't know,
a tarp or something right here to kind of you know,
which probably couldn't do that in the short amount of time,
but yeah, for that one, and people were complaining about it,

(02:24:58):
oh la, you know, the atmosphere everything. But no, I
mean I think if you had the Rose Bowl, the
venue that is known for legendary college football games and
the most recent game notwithstanding, I mean they have been
I mean Texas USC, Yeah, Texas Michigan the year before. Yeah,
that's right. Those are both badass games. I mean, you

(02:25:18):
know a lot of the Rose Bulls that we've seen
in recent times.

Speaker 1 (02:25:21):
What was it? Who was it? USC?

Speaker 4 (02:25:24):
And Penn State that one year where Saquan went off
and then Sam Darnold went off and USC was able
to win.

Speaker 1 (02:25:30):
I mean, it's provided for some amazing games.

Speaker 2 (02:25:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:25:33):
You look at some of those games where Andy Dalton
played in it for TCU. Yeah, we're really good games.
Uh what's his name? Andrew Luck when he was at
Stanford had really good games at the Rose Bawl. It
was that Andy Dalton TCU win, which is why you
had some people on draft night who were booing. Yeah
when JJ Watt was picked, Oh this guy sucks. He
sucked against TCU. All right, we'll look at the rest

(02:25:55):
of his film. I think people went on to not
regret that Pickin's I think.

Speaker 1 (02:25:59):
So, Yeah, I think so so.

Speaker 4 (02:26:00):
Joe Klatt tweeted out yesterday. He said the Rose Bowl
game should absolutely be the national championship every year. It's
an elite destination for everyone in college football. Forces us
to finish by the first, allows us to move the
x FR portal back no more as nine Monday night finishes.
Rose Bowl equals Super Bowl. One thing that I a
thousand thousand thousand percent agree with is the Monday night

(02:26:23):
football Monday night finish for national championships in college sports.
College basketball is played on a Monday night. College football's
played on a Monday night. Even if you go three
games in the College World Series, it's finished on a
Monday night. I think maybe even a Tuesday night. I'm
so tired of Monday night games for college football. In
the national title, it's ridiculous. I mean, I think the

(02:26:44):
thought behind it is, I mean usually at that point
and let's see, they're gonna play on the twentieth, so
I think that's going to be NFCAFC Championship weekend. So
I mean it'd be tough kind of going up against them.
But I mean, I guess you could do Saturday night
for that, get more eyes on it and probably get
more people not only inside the venue, but around it

(02:27:06):
as well because of it being a weekend. No, it's
a possibility, but it's also too you gotta look at
who are the top teams in the country. Yeah, top
teams in the country are in this state, in the
southeastern part of the country, and in the Midwest. The
Midwest has no problem with it. The Midwest, I mean

(02:27:27):
Ohio State. They're in the National Championship game that's being
played at the Rose Bowl. There's tons of people who
live out in Arizona and Nevada and California already. Anyway, Snowbirds,
they're out there, they'll have no problem getting to that game.
But I mean, you know, you'd also run into it,
as say team, and you have to factor this in.
I remember a buddy of mine a few years ago,

(02:27:47):
huge Alabama fan, Hey, are you going to go to
the National title game? I can't afford it. What do
you mean you went to the one down in South Florida,
You went to the one out there when they beat Texas?
You know all of these He goes exactly. That's why
I can't afford it, because I've done this for so long.
I can't keep paying down that credit card built every
single year. I must suck to be a fan of
a really good program.

Speaker 1 (02:28:07):
Yeah, it must. That's that's a terrible that's a terrible feeling.

Speaker 4 (02:28:10):
For you there. You have to go there all the time.
Screw your credit card, debt exact, go support your team. Yeah, exactly,
good bet that game. I bet you really wish that
that that you would have supported your team even more
now with their firing coaches this morning. Yeah, hey, there's
a report that came out late last night that the
Astros are in on a certain outfielder. Also the Blue Jays.

(02:28:32):
Who is it and how could it help bolster that outfield?
Discussed it next to Sports Talk seven to eighty. Then
Salisbury Show continued for some not as much as it
used to be. Oh yeah, yeah yeah. And if you're
struggling with that, go to Men's TA Clinic Me's t
clinic dot com. I got sexual wellness right there ready
for you can see a couple of blue darts if

(02:28:52):
you have.

Speaker 1 (02:28:53):
To, you know what I mean. I set you up
with a good double place to do it. There's good.

Speaker 4 (02:28:58):
Yeah, that was that was That was a little five
four six no five six three no six four three Sorry,
I mean I guess you know the shift days. It
could be a five to six three, that could be
you know, oh my goodness, so uh talking about these
astros and we'll get to your call. Seven one, three,
two two five seven ninety report coming out from Hector

(02:29:18):
Gomez excuse me, MLB insider obviously covering a lot of
the South America Venezuelan. Excuse me, my goodness choked up
after that song. Excuse me, he tweeted out last night.
Astros were the biggest threats uh for the Blue Jays

(02:29:39):
in the Anthony Santander sweepstakes. The Angels have have offered
a similar offer uh to sand Santander that the Blue
Jays did. The Blue Jays apparently offered Santander a four year,
eighty two million dollar deal. So I I uh, Shawn

(02:30:00):
and I talked about this yesterday. We had a call
asking about Anthony Santander and Sewn asked me if I
thought that they would try to sign him, and I
flat out said no, because there's been so much made
about this competitive backs, competitive balance tax or the CBT,
the threshold. They're very close to going over into the
next tax bracket if you will, and if you do,

(02:30:21):
you get taxed way more. We all know that they're
right there on the border of it and they can't
afford to sign anybody else if they're trying to stay
below that tax threshold. If you go and sign Santander,
which I would love, you add that big bat into
the lineup.

Speaker 1 (02:30:36):
He can start every day and right field for you
cheap seats to left field for the Crawford box.

Speaker 4 (02:30:41):
He had forty four bombs. Average down a little bit, Okay,
I get it. But still he's a solid ad. But
you're gonna go up in money. I'm okay with it.
Ain't my money, go spend it. But we know how
Jim Green operates. It's proven to work. I don't think
they're gonna sign him. But you see this report come
out from a guy that drops the nuggets here and there,

(02:31:01):
I don't know, gets you kind of excited. Yeah, I
was gonna say. Hector Gomez is one of the names.
You see him come across your your Twitter feed. He's
he's usually got pretty good information, really tied in I
think he's down in Puerto Rico, but I mean it
is really tied into the Latin community of the game.
So obviously, you know can be able to help break

(02:31:23):
stories with players that are are from such areas. Another
part that I've heard with Santander that is a possibility.
And this was brought up early, early in the offseason
when we had Chandler rome On very close with Jose Altuve.
And maybe the reason why there's credibility to this and
and credence to this is because you just had Jose

(02:31:46):
al Tuove try to stump hard to bring back Alex Pregman,
and you're not bringing back Alex Pregman. Yeah, so then
I guess maybe the next step is and I don't
think Jose is a guy you better do this or
else type of guy, but it is kind of a
hat tip to him of all right, we didn't get
you on that, but what if we add a guy
that we know you get along with incredibly well and

(02:32:07):
can help this team.

Speaker 1 (02:32:09):
Is that something that might interest you? The answer would
be yes.

Speaker 4 (02:32:12):
So I think right now the waiting game is to
see if you know, Toronto moves on, Say Toronto steps
in and signs Alex Bregman.

Speaker 1 (02:32:21):
There's people who say they could yesterday. Yeah exactly.

Speaker 4 (02:32:24):
I mean, say say Toronto does, then that takes one
team off your plate, and then it comes to a
point where you're offering a competitive enough deal to him
that can rival what the Angels want to give him.
And he looks at this situation and says, much better
position to win than what they are. I mean, the
Angels are at least trying now, but the problem with

(02:32:45):
them is, well, the guy that they've tried the hardest
with can't stay on the field ut health, and I
mean the rest of the guys around him. You know,
Anthony Rendoon, it's been awful. He's just it's been the
Albert Poohole signing on steroids for the High Robbery. At
the time, though, I mean, it looked like it was
going to be an outstanding signing for them, because kind

(02:33:06):
of like we're talking about Alex Bregman, we were saying
the same things about Anthony Rendon. That guy's a difference maker,
that guy can help you win. That guy did win.
They're in Washington and he's gone out to Anaheim, and
it seems like that's one of the organizations that you
sign a long term deal with that's one way or another,
voodoo whatever types of ways it happens that your career

(02:33:28):
just starts to go down, and you know, That's probably
another reason why players have decided to not go out there.

Speaker 1 (02:33:35):
I don't want to play on the West Coast.

Speaker 4 (02:33:37):
Yeah, I don't play in this, you know, cavernous ballpark here, Like,
you know, what what's that going to do for my numbers?
And not only is it going to do for my numbers,
the hells are going to do playing with this collection
of staffs. Yeah, it's I wouldn't want to go play
for them. Seven one, three, two, two, five, seven eighty
is the number to joints. Take a couple of calls
before we get to our final segment.

Speaker 1 (02:33:54):
Brandon, good morning.

Speaker 9 (02:33:56):
Good morning, Happy Friday.

Speaker 1 (02:33:57):
Happy Friday. Brandon, what'sy what's up?

Speaker 9 (02:33:59):
I'm there? Okay, I heard you laughing at Sean today.
You heard what Buddy we sew today? What what he
just said? No?

Speaker 1 (02:34:12):
I mean we laugh at Sean all the time. He's
easy to laugh at.

Speaker 4 (02:34:15):
Sew's not here, though, Man, he's off today. He's off today, Brandon,
brand Brandon, you've been listening to the show.

Speaker 9 (02:34:24):
I've been listening to to you.

Speaker 1 (02:34:27):
You've been listening this morning to.

Speaker 9 (02:34:29):
You on the weekend.

Speaker 1 (02:34:32):
Dan's Brandon, This is Brian. Dan's over here. Dan's on
the weekend. Yeah, there we go.

Speaker 4 (02:34:38):
Yeah, Sean's off though, Do me and you really sound
that much alike?

Speaker 1 (02:34:41):
I don't think so.

Speaker 4 (02:34:42):
I mean you sound more like every time I hear
a Clay Travis commercial, I'm like, oh, Lalima's doing these No,
it's lay Trav' never heard that one before?

Speaker 9 (02:34:49):
Ye and clan about you before I talked to you
going to the.

Speaker 4 (02:34:55):
Audio, Brandon, the uh rodeo isn't until Arts. Let's give
us a call back in March. And then and then
then asked that question. You are Are you okay with that?

Speaker 9 (02:35:05):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:35:06):
All right?

Speaker 2 (02:35:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (02:35:08):
Talk about astros?

Speaker 3 (02:35:11):
We who signed nobody?

Speaker 1 (02:35:17):
We signed somebody not recently besides the picture last week,
but as of today, yesterday, nobody. Miguel Castro last week.

Speaker 9 (02:35:29):
Oh we did get get okay, Yeah, he did good.
He would do good, I hope.

Speaker 4 (02:35:36):
So they're gonna need him in that bullpen. All right, Brandon,
good talk. Hey, enjoy your.

Speaker 9 (02:35:44):
Weekend, buddy. We'll listen to you on Saturday.

Speaker 1 (02:35:49):
Thanks buddy, I appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (02:35:51):
Dan, if you want to host tomorrow, please freak all right,
so in the noon you don't, you're out, okay, Space
City Saturday Tending noon, damn. Francis Romero, another baseball insider.
The Astros did agree to a minor league deal with
outfielder Jose Gonzalez, who's twenty four, hit three seventy with
nineteen homers eighty four rbi in the Pioneer League. I

(02:36:16):
coached Jose Gonzales. Wow, he was a bandido. Yeah, they
called him brother. He went to Cline High baby Texas
State kid.

Speaker 1 (02:36:22):
That's it.

Speaker 4 (02:36:22):
He hit bombs, dude, he was like ten eleven twelve,
coming up through the Bandidos and he hit nukes.

Speaker 1 (02:36:29):
And I think I saw last night somebody. Yeah he was.
He pulled for the Bandidos. Quote tweeted this.

Speaker 4 (02:36:34):
Francis Romero tweet and said, I think I drank. I
think I drank Micheladas next to this guy at all
the hostels that was doc as doctor as.

Speaker 6 (02:36:44):
I think that.

Speaker 4 (02:36:46):
I think I think that Jose actually retweeted.

Speaker 1 (02:36:50):
I think he did.

Speaker 4 (02:36:51):
He probably did. Yeah, they called him brother growing up. Hey,
you can't beat a good meat bombs, I'll tell you
what I mean. That's that's the thing too. And uh
shout out to tiffany one of our listeners, you know,
because after New Year's Eve, it's feeling it a little
bit the next day and I was like, God, what
do I do? And she threw a meach a lot
of I said, meach a lota is a good it's

(02:37:12):
a good poll. It's it is a fantastic Saturday brunch.
You know, you go to a spot that you know
they're known for their meech a lottas. Let's go got
that with some migas, some wairoscros. Oh excuse me, whatever,
whatever way, whatever way gets get some of that spice
in there, start start to flip you onto the right
side of life. Oh yeah, there's no doubt. Hey, Adrian,

(02:37:35):
stay right there, buddy. We'll get to you on the
other side. For the final segments, can you continue to
talk about the Astros needing to bolster their outfield?

Speaker 1 (02:37:42):
Next Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 4 (02:37:43):
Eighty Now back to Sean Salisbury. We had Aaron Wilson
NFL insider today on the show. We also had college
football insider Josh Paid. If you missed either of those interviews,
they'll be up on our blog after the show at
Sports seven ninety dot com. Dan, you've got the pre

(02:38:06):
and postgame shows tonight the launch pad. You've also got
the Rockets wrap on seven ninety. Yeah, Rockets sets the game.
I would assume there'd be a lot of people there tonight.

Speaker 1 (02:38:18):
Oh yeah, no, this would be a great crowd.

Speaker 4 (02:38:20):
And I heard sports MPT talking about, which, by the way,
uh Matt Thomas with Ross coming up next right here,
Sports Talk seven ninety, that the crowds are starting to
uh become more full and more rowdy.

Speaker 1 (02:38:33):
So I like that.

Speaker 4 (02:38:34):
Look, everybody wants to be a winner. Everybody wants to
be around a winner, and the Rockets have been a
winner this year. So Toyota Center is an awesome place
to be able to catch a game. And uh, now
you're just hoping that the Rockets can be able to
put together a great game overall and finish it off
in the fourth quarter. And if they can do that tonight,
then they have a hapless Lakers team coming in on Sunday.

(02:38:56):
Although wouldn't that just set up for a situation where
you win this one night and then Lebron and you know,
Dalton connect and whoever else just goes off for the Lakers.
And you're just like, come on, man, like seriously, Like
it's I've never wanted something to fail more than I've
wanted that experiment to fail in LA because JJ Reddick,

(02:39:18):
I mean, he's one of those people you know you
were talking about earlier, people who take themselves way too seriously.
Bingo's that's a guy right there takes himself way too seriously.

Speaker 1 (02:39:28):
Let me show everybody how cool I am.

Speaker 4 (02:39:29):
I'm gonna cuss in my press conference to tell people
that I don't care. Don't you always love that the
people who try to tell you that they could give
less of a you know what, are the ones who
could give more of one?

Speaker 1 (02:39:41):
Right, And that's why he did it. And it's just like, dude,
like what are you doing? Like what do you do?

Speaker 4 (02:39:46):
You don't have to do this? Like like I understand
coming back and coaching. I understand that you might know
the game all valid, all great, but then like to
do you like the whole like arrogant? I don't care
what he was to say, you clearly too much. So actually,
so it's it's uh, it's funny you brought up JJ Redick.
I just sent you to police some audio because it

(02:40:08):
just came to mind. Charles Barkley, did you see the clip?
Charles Barkley had some funny things to say. Excuse me
about JJ Reddick. Last night on Inside the NBA on
t N t UH, they were doing some Boston Celtics
and Minnesota te Wolves highlights and Charles Barkley went in
triple Whenever you get whenever you get a chance to
get that redis some me know. But okay, you got

(02:40:29):
it ready A right, here we go. This is Charles
Barkley on his rant against JJ Redick.

Speaker 17 (02:40:34):
She's just talking about you said something about we're the
reason people are watching this craptic product we got.

Speaker 6 (02:40:40):
That's what.

Speaker 1 (02:40:41):
Yeah, like wet.

Speaker 17 (02:40:43):
Jacking up one hundred threes like JJ, I don't know
Jason Monroe. I don't know who that is, but JJ,
you come for the King. You better not miss But
I can get you, brother, because I got Remember, I
got your Lakers games. You can't hope them flaws they got.
You're just a dead man walking. They got rid of
Frank Vogel, who did a good job. They got rid
of Darburnham, who did a good job. If you came

(02:41:04):
out that thing and you were going to change things
with that same ugly girl, you want them to hang with.
Sixty fifty one was your halftime score to get back
to the highlight, Rubert. I think it came in after
thinking I can make this thing work. Yeah you can
on that pig Lecus think man.

Speaker 1 (02:41:27):
By the way, it's that's the best. It's the best pregame,
best post game, best in game show in all sports.
And that's no disrespect to college game Day.

Speaker 4 (02:41:37):
And that's that's what I love too, is you know
Ernie trying to play the straight man right there, trying
to lead him, trying trying to reel it back in there,
but Charles was saying, no, no, no, no, the best
say this, I know, my my favorite, Like when Charles
gets on rants or Shack or whatever, it's the stuff
in the background that that makes me laugh so hard.
So shacking that whole thing, he says a little bit

(02:41:58):
and then he just starts laughing. And then the more
that Charles Markley goes on, the more they laughs, and
it just made it. It's hilarious, dude. Like like when
Kenny brought up jay Z and Charles quicky, that's not
a good time. He had Shack walk off, and I
think that even got Ernie to follow him to he did.

Speaker 1 (02:42:15):
They both went up, I've got to bring him back.

Speaker 4 (02:42:17):
Yeah, they went oh man, that's just that's but also
spot to lie and and by the way too, you know, uh,
not to get serious here, but to one of the
greatest people you will ever run into in this business.

Speaker 1 (02:42:30):
It's not an act Ernie Johnson. Ernie Johnson. Yeah, he's
he is as advertised.

Speaker 2 (02:42:35):
I am.

Speaker 1 (02:42:35):
I am an Ernie Johnson fan.

Speaker 2 (02:42:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:42:38):
Isn't in their studio in Atlanta. It is studio oh right,
studio or whatever. So yeah, yeah, right there, right there
off the downtown character. You see the building something. You'll
see it every once in a while that they'll show it.
And yeah, you used to drive by it all the time.

Speaker 2 (02:42:52):
There you go.

Speaker 1 (02:42:54):
Texans Titans. Who wins?

Speaker 4 (02:42:55):
Oh text Texans got so Yeah they lose. I mean,
what's that a log on the fire? If they why not?

Speaker 1 (02:43:03):
Nine and eight? Who cares? They're going to the playoffs?
Baby doesn't matter.

Speaker 4 (02:43:06):
AFC South Champs, Brian, AFC South Champs doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (02:43:10):
Back, he doesn't matter. It doesn't matter, Brian doesn't matter.
It doesn't matter.

Speaker 4 (02:43:13):
If I have a butt chin and I have no personality,
and I tell fans you suck too well, acknowledge.

Speaker 1 (02:43:19):
Suck to that. We suck.

Speaker 4 (02:43:24):
