Speaker 2 (00:56):
I'm doing well. How are you doing.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
I'm doing really good.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
It's fantastic to you and talk with you, and we've
got a great featured listing this week. We're also going
to talk about speaking of winter. We're going to get
your home ready with a before winter and an into
winter as we get into these colder temperatures, a checklist
and these are some very very important things that we're
going to talk about with Matt in just a moment.
But first, Matt, I'd mentioned earlier about during these colder
(01:19):
days and folks kind of looking for an escape, and
it is really true, even if you're not looking to
buy a house or sell house, it is a lot
of fun just to go to the website rock Wisconsin
dot com and take a look at what's out there
and even get some ideas, even for your own own
home if you're looking for something like that, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
Yeah, a lot of.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
People just browse on there just to kind of get
some decorating ideas or remodeling ideas. It's always always good
to be browsing everybody's everybody's a closet browser.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
How does that work? By the way, how do how
does like do your agents go out? Because I love
like so when I'm doing this. The other thing that
I love is seeing the pictures and do your agents
actually go out and stage those photos, set those up
or how does that part work?
Speaker 4 (02:01):
Well, I mean everybody does it a little differently, but
you know, for the most part, we'll have a professional
photographer out. Now he'll have a you know, a sheet
that kind of goes over different suggestions. But usually during
the listing appointment we'll walk through and say, you know,
here's kind of what i'd suggest in this room or
that room. But yeah, kind of it depends for situation.
How how we handle that.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Oh they look and they all look really fantastic.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Again, head on over to the website rock Wisconsin dot
com and check out those houses. That's Rock R O
c K Wisconsin dot com. And one of the houses
you will see is in Jefferson, right on Crestwood Court.
And this is a this is a really beautiful looking
it's got a great street presence. What do they call
that the curb appeal. It's got a Yeah, it's got
a fantastic look. Let's talk about this house on Crestwood
(02:47):
in Jefferson.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
Yeah, it's five point forty two Crestwood Court in Jefferson
and yeah, sits on a call de Sack, which is
pretty awesome. I mean I grew up on a Call
De Sack and I loved it. And you can throw
that bas we'll hoop out in the Call to Sack.
You know, one really complaints, all right, and it's a
it's a tri level home listed for three hundred and
sixty thousand dollars. It's got kind of a nice stamped driveway,
(03:12):
and it's got some stone features on the front, so
some definite good curb appeal. Four bedroom, two and a
half bath, and almost twenty five hundred square foot.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
You mentioned the benefits and anyone that's either I did
not have the luxury of growing up at a Call to Sack,
but I had a number of friends who did. And
what a great little piece of area, you know, for kiddos,
especially when they get a little older. You mentioned play
some basketball or ride their bikes around the circle. Not
only does it have that out front, but out back.
I'm looking at these pictures and looks like you got
a nice little piece of backyard for the kids and
(03:44):
the family or whoever to get out. Maybe you got
a dog that likes to run, got plenty of space
back there.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
Yeah, that's a nice thing about a call to sack
is you know, kind of a small front yard, big backyard,
so yeah, to definitely give some space in the back
to do a lot of things, especially if you get
to have a fence in yard and such. This one's
got you know, quite a bit of trees and uh,
I think it's a really nice semi flat sort of
yard so.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
And a veries very modern kitchen as well.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
You can check that out online Rock Wisconsin dot com.
That's Rock R O c K Wisconsin dot com.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
Do you have a listing agent on this, Matt.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Yeah, it's Max Mullhern Max And yeah, Max can be
reached at six zero eight five zero nine three eight
zero seven.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
That's five zero nine thirty eight oh seven six o
eight area code on that for Max. Check out the
house and again, if you want to get a viewing,
give Max a call at six oh eight five zero
nine thirty eight O seven. And Matt, as we talk
this morning, we're gonna get houses ready for winter, and
it is a it is one of those things that
you really want to do. These little little things on
(04:53):
these checklists could really make a big difference. For your
overall I mean, you're sanity, but also home savings. You
don't want to cause damage to your home, just like
anything that that you invest and you want to make
sure that it's treated right and things even like things
like gutters. And as you look up to look up
to your roof and and see that stuff, some of
(05:13):
the stuff that you actually don't see may cause some problems.
You really want to get up there and clean those out,
don't you.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
Yeah, I mean if you're able to, especially if you're
up there throwing on Christmas lights, Yes, take a peak
see how everything's looking. You know, especially in Wisconsin, we
get such thaws and freezes, especially you know come next
spring to where you can get a lot of ice
damming up there and having blocked gutters, you can really,
(05:39):
you know, add to that and make it worse.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
That's a good point too, about if you're gonna be
hanging and stringing up those holiday lights, what a great
time to check those things out. I have seen in
this next one you hear a couple of things. One
furnaces suffering damage, but even worse issues being caused with
with with the safety of your home. And and it's important,
I know My wife makes sure this gets done every
(06:04):
single year, which is that that furnace inspection, just to
have it looked at in a little bit of a cleanup.
That's something you want to be scheduling as well, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
I think it's definitely something that's missed pretty often. We've
had different home inspections and such over the years that
have kind of shown that, you know, maybe the flame
isn't burning correctly and it's you know, it could even
be letting letting carbon monoxide in down there if it's
if it's not working properly, not cleaned properly, So it's
good to have some professional out there to take a
(06:33):
look at it and hopefully prolong the life too at
the same time.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
Yeah, and that and that's important.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
You mentioned prolonging the life of the of the unit,
and I will say, and I'm guessing you probably get
them done annually as well. It's it's a real affordable,
very very easy thing to have done, and it's really
if nothing else, gives you peace of mind. And along
those lines, oftentimes your furnace repair man will give you
a reminder on this next one, which is that filter.
You want to make sure that it's clean, it's replaced,
(07:00):
that you got a fresh one in there, don't you.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
Yeah. It is usually one of the few upsells they'll do.
I'll offer you that that furnace filter. I've got to
hear right in the truck. So nice to get those
combined and done it once.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
Yes, talking this morning with Matt Hypen. Of course, Mad comes.
So it's from Rock Realty Online Rock Wisconsin dot com.
That's r O c K Wisconsin dot com. Ar tell
phe number six O eight six seven three fifty four hundred.
That's six oh eight six seven three fifty four hundred.
Talking this week about some tips for winter rizing your home.
And uh, I think of being very cold outside, and
(07:36):
when it's cold outside, everything wants to try and find
their way in, whether it's box elders or you know,
even little little furry critters try and find a little
ways to get in your house. And you really want
to make sure that it's it's for a number of
reason your house is sealed up tight, don't you.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
Yeah. Yeah, I mean one of the things you want
to look at is for holes or cracks and such.
I mean, yeah, our house was built pretty close to
a corn field, And there was one year that we
had a gap near the just decide to access door
in the garage and uh yeah, ended up having a
whole whole family of mice move into the garage that
(08:14):
in that winter. So it's it's good to uh, it's
good to put you know, some sort of blocking, some
cock or something to to make sure none of those
holes are letting in cold air and or rodents or
anything else. Critters.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
Yeah, you don't want you don't want those guys around.
And of course I've seen video of of like mice
and things how how tiny they can.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
Obviously they're already small.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
But it doesn't take much and just a nice little
walk around your house it will do yourself wonders.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
And it also helps too.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
I've got a guest Matt with not just keeping the
critters out, but also keeping your nice warm air. You
want to make sure you're keeping that in your house
as well, don't you.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
Yeah, yeah, I mean one of the things is the
kind of the vinyl weather stripping and such on doors
near the bottom there, and yeah, it's pretty common to
kind of see a gap in the corner there and
maybe it's maybe time to swap those out. Before before
the minus ten weather it comes to Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
Definitely.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
No, Yeah, I said it out loud. I shouldn't know,
but I did.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
Oh, it's gonna happen.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
We've just got to the roll with it right along
these as whereas we're looking at some tips for winter
rizing and something you should be doing to winterize your
home along those lines about you mentioned you know those
those little strips you put around the around the doors,
and I know there's some other things you do for
windows as well, but a little bit of extra installation
this insulation this time year never hurts. And if you've
(09:32):
got pipes and outdoor faucets, those are an area you.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
Really want to be paying close attention to, isn't it.
Speaker 4 (09:40):
Yeah, I mean, obviously disconnecting those hoses is a big deal.
Making sure that you know, if you don't you don't
have a kind of frost free hose bib outside that
you're turning off the water on the inside for the
supply for that. But to go kind of above and beyond,
you can wrap those exposed pipes or faucets, you can
(10:02):
wrap those in an insulation just to just to make sure,
because that cold air can travel through the pipe indoors
and crack a pipe inside too.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
And that I've seen photos and I've heard horror stories
from folks that have had that happen where the where
the outsize hose pipe will crack and it'll happen like
on a on a weekend, they're away and they come
back and there's standing water in their basement. It doesn't
take much for itt to that to fill up, So
you definitely want to keep an eye on that as
we talk this morning with Matt Heyman. Of course, Matt
(10:32):
comes to us from Rockrealty, the website Rock Wisconsin dot com.
That's r O c K Wisconsin dot com. Again, the
website Rock Wisconsin dot com. Tolphe number six oh eight
six seven three fifty four hundred. That's six oh eight
six seven three fifty four hundred. Well, continue our conversation
with Matt, will work through our winter checklist while so
revisit and take a look at our featured listening.
Speaker 3 (10:50):
We'll do all of that.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
Next is Ask the Experts with Matt Heyman and Rockrealty
continues right here on thirteen ten Wibi thirteen ten Whiba
and Ask the Experts. Hanging out this morning.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
With Matt Hyeman.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
Of course, Matt comes to us from Rockrealty, the website
Rock Wisconsin dot com. That's r O C K Wisconsin
dot com. All right, telv oneuver six O eight six
seven three fifty four hundred. That's the number for Rockrealty
mentioned the website Rock Wisconsin dot com. They've also got
a handy dandy app. Whether you're an Android or an
iPhone user, they've got an app for you. Just head
to MLS dot rocks slash apps. That's MLS dot rocks
(11:28):
slash app. I think I said plural. It's app app
MLS dot Rocks slash app and Matt. Winter is inevitable
here in Wisconsin and our houses they experience all sorts
of different different outside conditions. And we're talking about to
some of the things that you could be doing this
time here to really make sure that your house does well,
(11:48):
not just for this upcoming winter, but for years to come.
And a big one is involves fireplaces, which are how
great is having a fireplace, but they do require even
even if it's a new fireplace with all the great
gadgets and bells and whistles, you still want to make
sure it's getting a good inspection, don't you Yeah, I.
Speaker 4 (12:08):
Mean I would say definitely, while it's not totally freezing out,
try to make sure that your fireplace is working. I've
got a gas fireplace. Try to get it turned on,
see if the ignition's working.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
You know, there's a lot.
Speaker 4 (12:21):
Of cases where we get our power outages and such,
and it's always good to have a backup fireplace just
in case.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
So making sure that that's.
Speaker 4 (12:29):
Up and working properly. You know, you can, you know, obviously,
if it's wood burning, you'll want to, you know, take
a look through there. Make sure you don't have build
up of soot another debris, make sure you don't have
any nests up there. Maybe when you're on that roof
doing the lights, you can also look to make sure
everything's good with the cap on the fireplace on the
(12:50):
top there. But yeah, I have open around, sweep out
the ashes and all that.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
We have a fireplace guy, and I don't know how
this works, but every year again along with our furnace,
my wife's schedules a fireplace inspection. It's always the same
guy and he comes in. He shines his flashlight and
again he's a professional, shines his flashlight up the chimney,
turns his flashlight off and says, it looks great.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
I'm not going to charge you.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
Literally every single year, it's the exact stuff. I should
start getting him a gift.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
I tell you, he took milk exactly. Oh maybe he
knows the big fella. Maybe that's what's going Maybe maybe.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
And Matt, well, we're talking about home comfort and some
of the nice things to get through the seasons. I
know we're not necessarily thinking about air conditioning, but your
central air. That's another one of those units that if
treated well, they last a very long time and perform
really well. But you want to make sure that that
you're covering it up and really taking care of your
(13:48):
central air this time of year, don't you.
Speaker 4 (13:51):
Yeah. I mean, I'll have just admit this is one
thing I don't do. And you know, I saw it
some of the lists I found online when I was
looking through this topic, and you know they recommend that
you get your air conditioner cleaned up and then covered
for the winner. Yeah, we've all seen the old air
conditioners that are just all rusty on the top, and
it makes sense that, yeah, having having snow sit on
(14:12):
top of the AC unit for a long period of time. Yeah,
that probably does lead to some deterioration. So yeah, clean
up the dirt and debris, and uh, give it a
give it a cover. I guess they've got some online,
probably Amazon, little drawstring cover to keep it winterrise and
keep it safe over the winter.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
They have they have that on Amazon.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
I think they do. I found it for my patio table.
Oh really, sure they got a Yeah.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
That's that's that's a good thing. By the way, winter rising.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
I just real quick, mat, I just kind of going
off off a little bit here. You mentioned one for
your patio table. That's another area too that you want
to make sure that this time of year. I know
it's tempting. We've had little to no snowfall this season,
but you want to make sure that your patio furniture.
That's the other thing too, is make sure that you've
got to protect it and and stowed away. If you've
got a space for it, at least have it have
(15:02):
it covered up properly so it so it lasts.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
Yeah. You know, I I've found that the cushions are
probably the most important, you know, So yeah, you leave
those out in the winter, and uh, an umbrella as well.
I mean if you've got a cloth umbrella or whatever, Yeah,
that can definitely fade and just you know, get bad,
get get bad poor conditioned very quickly.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
So talking with Matt Heyman this morning, of course, Matt
comes to us from Rock Realty the website Rock Wisconsin
dot com. That's R O c K Wisconsin dot com. Again,
we'll talk about this week's featured listing. You can peruse
though a ton of I don't even know what the
number is any any guess how many houses you have
listed up at rock Wisconsin dot com.
Speaker 4 (15:42):
I think we've got to go twenty five to thirty
aeth moment.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
It's amazing.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
Yeah, So it's a it's a good way to uh
peruz check that style those houses out online again, that's
Rock Wisconsin dot com. Tell for number six O eight
six seven three fifty four hundred. That's six seven three
fifty four hundred. Let's move from kind of the uh
the before winter check lists. There are things you can
do during these cold months as well to really keep
your house performing its best and comfortable, and one of
(16:06):
them has to do with with your ceiling fan.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (16:11):
Yeah, one of the things that can really help distribute
to the warm air is to reverse the spin on
your ceiling fan, right, and so instead of blowing down,
it's drawing it upwards and helping to kind of recycle
it throughout the throughout the room. So something they something
you can do to maybe help alleviate some of the
energy bills a bit.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
And one final thing too along these along these lines,
Matt is, oftentimes you think about the indoors when it
comes to snow and winter outdoors. You don't want to
you don't want to forget about in a really important
area to remember, our are your sidewalks, whether it's the
public sidewalk or the sidewalk leading up to your house.
You want to make sure that they're clear and salted
as well.
Speaker 4 (16:49):
Right, Yeah, sure, it's good to good to get that
salt ahead of time. We know how they run out
at the hardware stores once you do get a nice
icy storm, So have those paired, have it ready. I
would say in general, if you've got a newer driveway,
newer sidewalks, you know, maybe refrain from using as much
salt because that can really they can damage it. You know.
(17:12):
Obviously sealing your driveway can sometimes help with that, so
that it's a little more protected from the damage that
salt can cause. But you know, there are other options
that are not salt. You can attempt with sand and
other things like that to help it so it doesn't
do as much damage to the driveway. But as a
matter of safety, always good to keep it clear vice.
Speaker 1 (17:34):
One of the things is as we as we talked
this morning with Matt Heytman of Rock Realty the website
Rock Wisconsin dot com that's Rock r O c K
Wisconsin dot com, I got to ask, Man, do you
see many houses And maybe it's just my neighborhood, it
seems over the past few years, I've seen a lot
of folks upgrade. I see those little I should say
little they're they're about the size of two trash cans.
(17:55):
These generac generators. Are you seeing people put backup how
units on their home. I've got to guess if you're listing,
that's probably a huge selling point. But do you see
are you seeing more people putting things like generators and
other things on their home for these type of events
that may happen.
Speaker 4 (18:11):
You know, I do think they're being considered more often
now I know that, you know, I've even had the
discussion myself, just because we've had so many power outages.
It's surprising, you know, and you know, with all the
you know, crazy kind of weather we've had over the
last number of years here, you just never know what
to expect. So I think I think it's becoming more
of a value for sure.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
It's funny I look up, look up and down my
street when there's there's been a couple of them this
past summer. There was one, I think two this summer before,
and looking down my street, you know exactly who's got
their generators going, not because you can hear the generators,
but you can see all their lights are on.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
I'm going, oh, you guys got it made.
Speaker 4 (18:47):
I looked into it at one point, and it's kind
of nice that they actually have like a trifuel option
where you can have it piped directly into your natural gas.
You can have it so that the LP tank can
be pumped into it, or just a gasoline actually really.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
Oh, maybe I'll have to look into this as well.
And as we talked this morning about about beautiful homes
and keeping your house beautiful and comfortable, I look at
this featured listing this week at five forty two Crestwood
Court in Jefferson and Matt just I was scrolling through
the pictures during the earlier break and just kind of
looking at it. This is an absolutely gorgeous house, Like
(19:21):
when you think of like what is what is? What
is just like that that quintessential American home, look like
this has all that charm, all that beauty.
Speaker 3 (19:30):
It's a really really nice place.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
Yeah, no, I agree.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
In looking through the pictures, I mean number one, the
h the sellers have a staged really well, yeah, it
looks looks beautiful. It makes the kitchen look modern, and
I mean, I don't know if you happen to notice,
but that is quite the walking closet they have too,
so and a jacuzzi. I mean, it's this, this is
a this is a primary bedroom dream here with the
en suite. So I definitely think it's it's worth taking
(19:56):
a look at, especially listed at three hundred and sixty
thousand dollars. Pretty much any really nice house under four
hundred thousand is worth taking a peek at.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
You mentioned that walking closet. I will be completely honest
with you, Matt. When I first scrolled by, I thought,
is that a room that they're that they've got they
they've got something like it's it's a big, big space
like no, that is a closet for all their for
all their stuff, and there that space could be your space.
Check that out online again. The website, of course for
Rockrealty is Rockwisconsin dot com. That's Rock R O c
(20:27):
K Wisconsin dot com. The house right at five forty
two Crestwood Court in Jefferson. And again Max is the
listing agent on that. If you want to check out
that house.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
Or so much more.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
I mentioned the website. We've gotta mention, of course, that app.
It's a great app for you. All I gotta do
is go to MLS dot rocks backslash app. That's MLS
dot rocks backslash app.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
Matt. Time always flies by when we're hanging out. You
have a fantastic day and we'll do it all again
real soon as well.
