Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello everyone, and welcome to Wisconsin Badger Women's hockey. Thanks
so much for joining us here on AM ten seventy
the game. My name is Zach Sieloff alongside Mark Greenhall,
ready to bring you Badger hockey action as Wisconsin gets
ready to take on the Mavericks of Minnesota State in
their final series of twenty twenty four. The Badger swept
the main Black Bears last weekend out in Orno Maine.
Let's recap those contests. The Badger scored early and off
(00:21):
and against Maine, finding the back of the net at
least twice in every period bar the second in Game two.
In Game one, six different Badgers had goals, with Carolyn Harvey,
Leyla Edwards, and Kirsten Simms each getting two for a
nine oh victory for the women from Wisconsin. Eleven players
had points in the game, and the Badger's special teams
were also in top fom, going two of three on
the power play while not allowing a score on any
(00:41):
of Maine's four power play opportunities. Ava McNaughton and Quin
Coots combined for a shutout in net, and McNaughton handled
things in the first two periods while Coons closed out
the third speaking of Quinn Coon's, the fifth year senier
out of war Road, Minnesota by way of Ohio State,
got her first start for Wisconsin in the second game
of the main series, saving sixteen of seventeen on Saturday
and leading the Badgers to a six to one victory
(01:02):
over the Black Bears. Kirsten Simms had another two goal night,
and she Lailah Edwards and Carolyn Harvey all had seven
point weekends. Out East. Freshman Finlay McCarthy had her first
multi point game as a college athlete, scoring at eight
oh four in the first period with assists from Mary
m Picard to Mikayla Zillish and then getting the secondary
assist on a Leila Edwards goal at fourteen fifty eight
in the first In total, the Badgers outshot the Black
(01:23):
Bears sixty one to seventeen on their way to two
wins and a seventeen and one record in the NCAA,
retaining their number one spot in college hockey. Trusting challenge
this weekend as they travel to man Cato to take
on the skaters in Minnesota State. This is the first
full season at the Helm for the Mavericks new head coach.
Sherry Dickerman, who took over as the interim head coach
midway through last season, officially named the permanent head coach
(01:43):
at the start of this season. She's no stranger to
the Mavericks squad, playing there from two thousand to two
thousand and four and coaching since two thousand and nine. Remarkably,
she has played with or coached one hundred seventy four
total Minnesota State players, or eighty two percent of all
the players who have ever worn the Purple and gold.
Coach Dickerman and her staff have these Mavericks well positioned
to break into the upper levels of college hockey, and
although they're only six seven to one this season, all
(02:05):
but two of their losses have been by only one goal,
and they've also taken home victories against some of the
best in the NCAA. Those include a four to one
win over number eight Saint Cloud State and a four
to win win over number two Ohio State. Indeed, in
their other game against Ohio State, they battle to overtime,
eventually falling two to one in the extra period. A
talented team on the rise with an awful lot to
prove in the Minnesota State Mavericks plays host to the
(02:26):
dominant team in college hockey in the Wisconsin Badgers. We've
got analysis and thoughts on what's sure to be an
exciting game with big WCCHA implications coming up as the
pregame show continues. We'll be back after these messages. Stay
tuned to Wisconsin Badger Women's Hockey presented by Goodman's The
Diamond Store of Madison. Welcome back, everyone, We're in studio
with you and Madison. The Badgers are on the road
in man Cato taking on the Minnesota State Mavericks this weekend.
(02:48):
They'll play today puck drops in just about fifteen minutes
at three pm, and tomorrow the series will conclude at
two pm. Both of those games right here on AM
ten seventy the Game. I'm joined now by Wisconsin Badger
goalie coach Mark Greenhall and markin a lot of things
to talk about for the Badgers for this weekend, but
something really important happened on Wednesday. Brianna Decker into the
United States Hockey Hall of Fame, A three time Olympian
(03:09):
silver in twenty fourteen to twenty twenty two gold and
twenty eighteen National champion with Wisconsin twenty eleven, Patty Casmire
Award in twenty twelve. There can be no question that
she deserves to end up in the Hall and it's
a great achievement for her.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
Yeah, it was nice to see her recognize as such
and as you said, totally deserving of that honor. And
everything she does is you know, you're here. It's a cliche,
but to do something one hundred and ten percent, that's
the way she does everything, you know, no matter what
she's approaching. She's currently coaching up at Shattock Saint Mary's
and you know, just puts her heart and soul into
(03:43):
that up there. But anything she does she does with
just full commitment.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
We're going to hear from her a little later. Paul
Brown was able to talk to her last year, and
we're going to hear that, and iView will be really
exciting to get her thoughts on the Badgers, on being
a Hall of Famer or looking at being a Hall
of Famer, and so much from her incredible career for
you as a goalie code which though I wanted to
talk a little bit about Ava McNaughton starting goaltender for
the Badgers. She leads the NCAA with five shutouts this season,
and it kind of under sells it. She hasn't given
(04:07):
up a goal in eight of her appearances, but three
of those were split with other Badger goaltenders. This is
her sophomore season, She's got a lot more time here
with Wisconsin and she's already performing at an incredibly high level.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Yes, she is. You can't be you know, I can't
ask for much more out of her. What I like
that I've noticed transpiring this year and just taken off
from the end of last season, is she's mature and
she's still continuing to progress. You know, she came in
pretty highly touted and you know, with a few credentials
under her belt, but then the jump to the WCHA
(04:41):
and you saw what she did last year and marched
her way right to a one to nothing game in
Championship NCAA title appearance, and you know, this year, she's
just mature enough to parts of her game she's putting
together that make herself better and improve each week.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
She's really doing the job for the Badgers and they've
been fortunate enough as well to have Chloe Baker and
Quinn Coons back there. Quinn is a I said at
the top. Got her first start last weekend. She blocked
sixteen to seventeen shots. She did the third period in
the game before that. Obviously, confidence is not a problem
for you know, this is her her final season as
a collegiate athlete, but just the same, what are you
seeing from her at the start of her Badger career?
Speaker 2 (05:22):
Just goaltending wise, you know, it's great to have her
on the team, obviously, but goaltending wise, she's pretty good
down low, real effective with the pads. We're we're just
working on some hand trajectory and you know, glove placement
and then covering that five hole. And she's willing to
learn and work, so I've seen progress in those areas
as well. Excellent.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
We mentioned how you know Breonna Decker and the kind
of company she keeps, the work that she's done. Leila
Edwards sophomore with the Badgers here one of their absolute stars,
performing incredibly well on alternate captain. She was selected to
the Forbes thirty Athletes under thirty lists, and that's alongside
people like Caitlin Clark, Jason Tatum, Olympians, Gabby Thomas, Mondo Duplantis,
(06:05):
Elano mar It's an incredible company to be part of
for her.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
Yeah, I saw that recognition this week in the news,
and I was really happy for you know, she's such
a humble young lady, you know, for all her achievements.
If you just met her or we're talking to her,
you would have no idea that she had all these
accolades already under her belt at such a young age.
But she doesn't let it distort her perspective, and I
(06:30):
think that's what enables her to continue to have success,
you know, that humility that she maintains.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
She is second in points in the NC double A,
second in goals, fifth and assists, but we've got so
many other people on the team who are also doing damage.
Lacy Eden third and goals, Sixth in points, Carolyn Harvey
has had a fourteen game point streak to got things
to get things started. First and assistant first in points
is Casey O'Brien. Just when you look at the top
(06:57):
of the NCUBLEA, it's badger after badger after badger.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Yeah, it's a pretty high standard to put yourself in
that pack, and I see it. You know, at practice
on a daily basis, everything's at a high speed, you know,
the temple is always good and it has to be.
And whether you come into practice one day and you're
not necessarily having the best day so far, you get
to that rink and you see what's going on around you,
(07:21):
and I think it's contagious and you've got to be
part of it if you want to participate. And that
requires effort and focus, and we're getting that out of
a lot of people.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
And then in terms of participating and working at a
very high level, eight Badgers are going to be joining
Tosa and Finland next weekend for the Six Nations Tournament.
Lacy Eden, Laila Edwards, Carolyn Harvey, Kirsten Sims, Casey O'Brien,
Avin McNaughton, Cassie Hall, and Lady Potter are all going
to make the trip to Tampere, Finland as part of
the US Women's Collegiate Select team. For you as their
(07:50):
college coach and for the rest of the coaching staff,
how do you integrate that international play? How do you
think about that those with those players when they're there
have to have a little bit of a split focus
here thinking about one thing but also the other.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
No, that's a good question, and I wish I had
you know, a pinpoint answer, and I don't really think
I do, but I what I do what I think. Rather,
my observation is that these girls, wherever they are, you know,
they live in the now, and although they are well
aware that their efforts on today dictates what's going to
happen in the future, I think they, you know, concentrate
(08:25):
their attention on the now and that enables them to
just get better daily, regardless of whether it's here at
the lebon and a practice thing on the road to
prepare for an opponent, international play or national play you know,
with the USA, or whatnot. I just think that they
maintain that ability to focus on the now, you know.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Looking at tonight's opponent in Minnesota State, the Mavericks six
seven to one on the season, two seven to one
in the WHA. But like we said at the top,
only two of those losses have been by more than
one goal. They've had five one goal loss so far
in this season, along with one tie. One thing I
did want to talk about though, is scoring. Minnesota State
has only managed to score thirty five goals so far
(09:08):
this season. That's compared with one hundred and seven for
the Badgers. Now the Badgers are an offensive juggernaut. They've
been scoring a lot. But nonetheless, if you're Minnesota State,
how do you think they are going to try and
attack the Badger's offense in the first period? What are
they going to want to do to try and knock
Wisconsin off their game here?
Speaker 2 (09:26):
Well, you know, my guess is, and that's all it is.
You'd have to study the video on them, which the
team and the coaching staff has done earlier in the week,
and and they're a familiar opponent obviously, But some of
the things that we got to beware of is we
can't fall into an offense only oriented mindset. And if
we do, the Mustangs, will you know, they'll or the
(09:49):
Mavericks excuse me, they'll recognize that and they'll capitalize on it.
So they're probably you know, thinking in terms of, okay,
if that defenseman's on a position, I want this forward
taking off, let's chip it up out and go and
give ourselves maybe a odd man rush perhaps, and and
just making their whether whether they're limited or not, but
just making all of their offensive opportunities count. You know,
(10:13):
hit the net, get the hit, get the puck to
the open player. Those kind of things, just doing doing
the right things fundamentally to maximize their opportunities offensively.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
And then on the opposite side of things, you're Wisconsin,
You're taking an opponent that, you know, if you just
looked at the standings, you'd say, well, they you know,
they haven't had the kind of success they would have wanted.
They're only two seven to one in the w c
h A. But you look a little bit deeper, you say,
this is a team that's clearly got a lot of talent.
They've been in all of these games. What do you
do to position yourself in the first period set yourself
(10:43):
up for success.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
That's a good, good intro there. We're going to have
to come out fast, you know, force them to get
on their heels. Hopefully. As you said that, this record
of theirs is very misleading. They're a good team. They've
got players that can skate fast, that know the game,
that are pretty have a pretty good hockey IQ. Their
goaltending has been historically rock solid and that's indicated in
(11:08):
the scores in their past games this season. But yeah,
we're just going to have to go out and try
and dictate play. You know, we can't wait to let
it happen, that's for sure.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
A couple of things that are interesting today for the Badgers.
On the lines, Maggie Scannal is back. She'll be playing
center on that fourth line with her fellow freshman Finley
McCarthy and Hannah Halverson. Mikayla Zillish will be the extra
forward up in front, and then Katie Kutlowski is back.
On defense. We won't be seeing, unfortunately, Grace Bickett and
Bella Vassar, who got some of their first game action
(11:38):
in last weekend. With Scannal coming back and with Kutlowski
coming back, so one on offense, one on defense, does
that change the game at all? Or is the expectation
and the style from the coaching staff that you know,
whoever's out there, we want to play the same kind
of hockey.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
You know. I think it's pretty much continue with what
our plan is, you know, you know, stick with the
stuff that got us here, the style of play that
we normally do. Those integrated players won't change that, I
don't think. But then again, coach Johnson is I think,
really renowned for letting people play, you know, when they play.
(12:17):
He doesn't want him to play scared or afraid to
make a mistake. You know, makes sense, but just if
you've got an opportunity, go ahead and you know, put
it in motion.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
One thing we were talking about off air Taylor Otremba,
who's the leading scorer for these Mavericks. She wears number
twenty four, junior forward out of Lakeville, Minnesota. Her grandfather
was a longtime hockey coach. At hockey legend, I think
it's fair to say Dean Blaze, and you said you
were acquainted with him years ago.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
Yeah, I had the opportunity or the privilege to meet
him way back when we were still playing at the
Cole Center. He was coaching the Omaha Nebraska men's team
and they were going to play the Badgers that night,
and he came to watch a little bit of our
practice and a real humble man, got an opportunity to
talk with him. But so many evens at every level.
You know, whether he was an assistant at Minnesota after
(13:04):
after he played there, and then all his success he
had at University of North Dakota and then he you know,
he went on to grab a position with the Columbus
Blue Jackets. It didn't pan out because of the you know,
NHL lockout that year and some other factors. But you know,
then he starts the Fargo Force in the USHL and
successful franchise there. You know, just done a lot for hockey,
(13:27):
you know. And and he's and he's he's got the
biggest hands I've ever seen too. Just so just so
you don't want to get in a fight with him
or anything. But no, really an achieved guy. But yet
for all those accomplishments, he still remains humble and you know,
a lot of a lot of good things in that
man right there.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
That's excellent. Looking at Minnesota State going forward, this is
the not quite their last game of twenty twenty four,
last series, although it will be for us. They are
home against Bmigi State next week, but then they have
linden Wood to start January at home. Then they have
a really tough road series. January eleventh and twelfth, they're
at Wisconsin. January seventeenth and eighteenth, they're at Minnesota. January
(14:06):
twenty fourth and twenty fifth, they're at Ohio State. Do
you think it's possible that they're going to be desperate
it's not the right word, but that they're going to
be looking at you know, staring down the barrel at
that kind of schedule and saying we need to get
whatever points we can. They're going to come out maybe
with just a little bit extra intensity.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
Today, Yeah, I think, well put, they will be more
than prepared this afternoon to play us, coming off the
games they've had recently, and like you said, looking down
with foresight on the schedule up ahead the beginning of
next you know, in twenty twenty five, and you look
at the WCCHA schedule, you really don't ever have a
(14:43):
weekend off, you know, especially if you're playing intra conference opponents.
And they're well aware of that, and they're going to
come out and give it all they got today.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
Alrighty, And then I had some fun with the trivia question.
I don't know if everyone else did, but I got
another one for you here today. Our last one was
who which the only Badger to score five goals in
a game? That was Hillary night Tonight's question. Mark Johnson
currently has six hundred and forty six career wins. That's
first all time for NCAA women's coaches and ninth all
time for men's or women's. The coach, who is currently
(15:15):
eighth on the list, has six hundred and fifty five
career wins. Can you name that coach? It is a
men's coach. So Mark Johnson is on top of all
the women's but for there are eight men's coaches ahead
of him and number eight on the list has six
hundred and fifty five career wins. Wow, I'll give you
some time to think about it while we take a
(15:36):
break here. All our fans at home can think about it.
We'll talk about it in the first intermission. What coach
NCAA coach is on number eight on the all time
wins list at six fifty five. We're going to take
a short break. We'll be back. The game will be
getting started in just a moment. It's Wisconsin at Minnesota
State man Cato here on Am ten seventy the game.
Welcome back everyone in studio in Madison with you, Zac
(15:57):
Sieloff and Mark Greenhall on the road in man Cato
are the Badgers taking on Minnesota State. The Mavericks playing
host to Wisconsin as the Badgers look to improve their
record in the WCCHA. They only have a single loss
against Ohio State so far, seventeen to one. On this season.
This will be the Badger's last series of the twenty
(16:18):
twenty four calendar year. They won't be back in action
until January second, when they play Ohio State at Lebon
and then January fourth, they will play Ohio State again
at Wrigley Field in Chicago. The Frozen Confines head over
the Chicago Cubs website and grab tickets, visit visit Chicago
and see Wisconsin play an outdoor game against their huge
WCCHA rival, Ohio State. Coach, this has been an almost
(16:42):
unbelievably good twenty twenty four for the Badgers. For the
calendar year of twenty twenty four, they have outscored their
opponents two hundred and fifteen to fifty two and posted
a thirty eight to three and oh record for you
and the other coaches, how do you conceptualize of a
year hockey like that? Like? What does it mean to
know that your team has achieved at that level?
Speaker 2 (17:04):
You know? That's when you put it like that, it's
pretty hard to comprehend. And I got to be, in
all honesty just say I don't stop and think about
that that much. And then you know, these victories or
losses or whatever, our record, it just accrues as time
goes by, but I never really look at it, or
(17:24):
you don't think about it much or look to the
past and say, Okay, that's what drives what we're going
to do moving forward. It's kind of almost independent. You know.
It's nice to have that and that's what you want,
but you can't let up on the gas moving forward.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
Still a whole half of a year to play for
the Badgers, and indeed two games ahead of them to
close out the twenty twenty four year against these Minnesota
State Mavericks as we get our first shot of the
Male Health Systems Event Center in man Cato. Another nice
stadium as was the stadium in Orno, Maine last week,
and eighty for hockey out there at the Mayo Clinic
(17:59):
Health System Event Center and holds eighty two hundred for concerts.
The Badgers and the Mavericks getting ready to get started
out here as we take on another WCCHA contest. So
this is the last team that the Badgers have yet
to play in the WCCHA. They've played everyone else, They've
swept everyone else save for Ohio State again had that
one goal loss, and the team they're playing defeated Ohio
(18:20):
State four to one in the one game that they
took off of them and then lost two to one
in overtime. So you look at common opponents and you
have to say, coming into this game, I would give
the Badgers the edge just because of how much success
they've had, But there is no way you could say
with certainty who's going to win this one.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
Yeah, it's going to be a real contest today, no
doubt about it. Pretty evenly matched teams when you think
of how they fared against Ohio State, you know, so
they're capable of anything.
Speaker 1 (18:47):
Their goalie starting in net for the Minnesota State Mavericks
is the sophomore Haley Hanson five foot four out of Blaine, Minnesota.
She's four to three and one this season with a
ninety two point three percent save percentage and a two
point three to four goals against average. Starting a net
for the Badgers, of course, their sophomore Even McNaughton. Out
of seven fields Pennsylvania thirty six four and OH in
her career sixteen one to oh this season, ninety five
(19:08):
point two percent on the safe percentage, one point zho
nine goals against, and the most wins in the NCAA
five shutouts for ava eight games without a goal allowed.
Just a couple of those were not complete games efforts.
We see a shot of Sherry Dickerman, the brand new
head coach from Minnesota State, though she's been coaching with
them in various other roles since two thousand and nine,
(19:30):
getting ready to get her women all set. The Badgers
will move left to right as we look at them
in this first period. They're wearing their traveling red uniforms
with white numerals. The Minnesota State Mavericks in their home
whites with blue and gold piping and blue numerals. They'll
move right to left as we look at them in
this first period. So we're all set to go a
(19:50):
WCHA contest Wisconsin versus Minnesota State. Man Cato case O'Brien
starts things off for the Badgers in the dots. She'll
take on Taylor Otremba. Oh. Tremba wins the draw, and
we are underway in the first period, scoreless out here
at the Mayo Clinic Events Center in man Cato, Minnesota.
Here we go, Zach, gotta love it when you've got
hockey on the weekend. The Badgers check that puck down
(20:11):
into the far corner, of their own zone. The first
offensive possession belongs to Minnesota State, but the loose puck
is picked up by Kirsten Sims. She attempts to move
it up the far side wall. Nice shield by Casey
O'Brien gets it back to Sims and neutral ice and
the Badgers work on getting their first offensive possession. Loose puck,
though picked up by Minnesota State at the blue line,
regather for offense. That one's taken by Claire Vetchi Beckitch
(20:32):
has it stripped away by Vivian Jungles. Jungles tries a
passing attempt that deflex off a stick and out of play.
Our first stoppage of the day comes at nineteen twenty
three in the scoreless first period.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
Well, it's indicative that they came to play. I mean,
so far the game is, it's only half a minute
into it, but we've played it all in our defensive zone.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
Badgers on a defensive footing to start with. They get
a full line change Cassie Hall and the Dot taking
on the captain Sidney Langseth of Minnesota State. Cassie wins
it back to Vivian Jungles on far corner. Badgers look
to break out of their defensive zone up the wall
towards Lacy Eden. She finds Kelly Garbtenko comes in on
the right wing side. She's got a two on one.
Garbatenko has it swatted away by Genessa Gasdick. Genessa is
(21:13):
the twin sister of Julia and Gastick. And now as
a puck goes out of play, we get another stoppage
with nineteen oh five to play.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
Yeah, that was a good defensive play by yead Jack
there on that one against Gorbatenko.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
Both the Gastic sisters out of Somerset, Wisconsin, both sophomores
and both defensive players. And now we actually, I'm sorry,
it wasn't just an out of play. It is a
penalty call. So Wisconsin is going to go on the
power play. Across checking penalty comes in against Genessa Gastick. Boy,
after that puck was knocked out of bounds, Kelly Garbtenko
was knocked to the ice, So the Badger's on a
(21:48):
two minute power play as Gastick gets whistled for the
infraction just fifty four seconds into the first period.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
Yeah, it was such a good defensive play. It was illegal.
There's a reason they don't allow that. Yeah, Sims picks
it up on the right wings side, gets the Badger's
set up on offense. With a minute forty five to
go on the power play.
Speaker 1 (22:03):
Feed to the center a shot and it pops up high.
What a quick rister from Casey O'Brien. Nice save that
time by Hailey Hanson of the Mavericks. Sims at the
high high slot tried to pass to Harvey and they
had their wires crossed. It comes into neutral ice, Harvey
turns it back around to Sims, who immediately re enters
the zone. Kirsten Sims in the slot, now Harvey center point,
(22:24):
O'Brien outer Hashmarks on the near side. Sims at top
of the near circle. Minute sixteen to play, as it's
Harvey at the bottom of the circle trades with Sims
center point and a shot and it's just wide off
the edge of the glove reaching for that one and
knocking it away with Haley Hanson the goaltender slot for Sims.
Hash Marks shot is blocked, doesn't make it through traffic,
but comes right back to Sims, who controls at the
(22:45):
top of the circle. O'Brien on the near side changes
with Sims down to the bottom of the near circle.
Now beneath the net, O'Brien looks for a pass into
the center, shot and score Carolyn Harvey from Kirsten Sims.
The Badger's a power play goal just two five into
the first period. It's one nothing Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (23:03):
Boy, it didn't take long, huh. Some good puck movements,
some cycling there between Sims and O'Brien. Nice pass to
the slot, high slot. Harvey shoots it to score to
get first goal of the game.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
If you leave Carolyn Harvey all alone dead center of
the slot, she is gonna make you pay. And that
is exactly what she does there. Carolyn Harvey with the goal,
and the Badgers barely two minutes into this contest are
up one nothing on the Middiesota State mavericks that she
is so good and she finds a way even as
a defenseman. She slips into these offensive positions and makes
(23:36):
plays like that quick release.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
If you notice, whether it's a pass it's on and
off for stick, or a shot, it's on and off
her stick.
Speaker 1 (23:42):
Immediately Badger's control and news Lice bringing things up. They've
got a potential three on two developing here. It's Mary
am Picard to the outside back can in front for
Wesnevitch and she just missed the tip in on the goal.
Seventeen to twenty five to go in the first period,
one nothing Wisconsin thanks to the power play tally just
a moment to go from Carolyn Harvey with the assist
from Kirsten Sims and Casey O'Brien. Badgers regather playing five
(24:06):
on five. The original penalty for cross checking was against
Genessa Gazdick and that's what led to the power play
goal for Wisconsin. Seventeen minutes even to play in the
first period, Badger's up one nothing, playing with it in
their own defensive zone. As Emma Venusio reaches ahead to
Hannah Halverson as the freshman line is out there, Scannal
sends it cross ice from McCarthy on the far side,
(24:28):
back towards Scannal and center ice. Scannal back after missing
a couple of games. Great to see her back out
there for the Badgers. Puck tapped down by Minnesota State
and that'll work all the way into the Badger's defensive
zone where Carolyn Harvey, the goal scorer from just a
moment ago. We'll control, Harvey moves it ahead to McCarthy
into center ice knocked there towards Venusio up the wall
(24:50):
for Halverson, who gives a slapper and rims it around
to the far side. As the Badgers get a change,
Sims steals it away. She's one on one to the
slot shut and just misses against the She pushed it
just a bit wide left. Badgers hold the zone and
put it behind the cage. I thought she had that
goal for sure.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
Yeah, I thought she was gonna beat that goaltender going
across the grain with that rister from the slot.
Speaker 1 (25:10):
She really kind of deceived the defense and all of
a sudden she's in the slot with a chance at
the net, just missed wide to the left. Sixteen minutes
to play in the first period, puck comes down and
too far an icing call against Minnesota State. We'll head
back to their zone for a face off.
Speaker 2 (25:27):
Well, I'll tell you it's nice to jump out there
and get a goal on the board right away, but
let's build on that.
Speaker 1 (25:33):
Huh does not hurt to immediately have a score. The
Badger's up one nothing thanks to the power play goal
from Carolyn Harvey off the face off in their own zone.
The Mavericks win it, but at the point it's held
by Leila Edwards, pitchfork back down beneath the net of
Minnesota State. They send it up their own near wall,
break it into neutral ice, springing it forward as the
captain Sidney lang seth. She has it stripped away once
(25:53):
again by Leila Edwards. Even when Edwards is in the
forward position, she still plays great defense, great four check
and gets it to Sims beneath the goal line for Wisconsin.
Kirsten Sims, who had the first assist on that Carolyn
Harvey power play goal, has it taken away in Minnesota State,
coming up the left wing side. That time it's alternate
captain Jamie Nelson. Nelson hassled by Potter, who steals it
away for Lacy Eden coming through and works away in
(26:16):
the center. Now Eaton all the way to the far corner,
tries to tap it through into the slot. Backhand shot
is just wide. She managed to find a way to
get it to Cassie Hall, but hauls backhand or misses
the cage and ends up in the near corner rim
the opposite direction. Badger's pick it up there, send it
back beneath the net with fifteen oh six to play,
one nothing Badger's here in the first period out in
man Cato center point, Venusio shots deflected goes into the
(26:38):
far corner Kelly Gorbtenko there, she's hassled up against the
wall as digging it off is Alexis Paddington of Minnesota State.
Badger's backhanded of the blue line, but Minnesota State able
to swat it into Wisconsin territory, where Venusio will quickly
turn it around, finds an open Lacy Eden on the
right wing edge. Eden to the face off dot takes
a low angle shot and it's picked up cleanly by
the glove of Haley Hanson. We'll have a stoppage with
(27:00):
fourteen thirty nine to go.
Speaker 2 (27:02):
Yeah, over five minutes in and uh Mankato doesn't have
a shot on net yet. I don't believe do they.
Speaker 1 (27:07):
They do not. And what's interesting is the Badgers only
have two. One of them went in though.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
So it play is much closer than the shots on
goal indicate.
Speaker 1 (27:16):
Absolutely, the Badgers immediately capitalize on a power play opportunity,
and that's what good teams do off the face off.
Carolyn Harvey wins. It Wasnvitch top of the circle shot
and us save not very clean from Hanson.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
H got a piece of it.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
She got just enough though, keep kept it out of
the night. Wasnevitch had a goal to start the scoring
in the nine to nothing win the Badgers had on
Friday in Maine. At the point was Nevitch has it.
She's on sides, but now it's tapped back outsides. The
Badgers will have to check up. Was Nevitchen center right
has it bang off her skate. It's going to come
all the way back to the Badger zone. Striding after
(27:50):
it is Vivian Jungles with fourteen oh five to play
one nothing Wisconsin. Out here in Mankato, Mavericks in their
own zone have the puck. Nice stick handling move that
time by Whitney. Tuttle sends it forward, but the intended
target loses the edge trips over the blue line and
the Badgers pick it up in their own zone. Nice
work by Carolyn Harvey to keep it off the tape
(28:11):
of the Minnesota State Mavericks. Harvey trailing through center, but
has it stripped just enough by Keana Roski. Badgers, though
right at the blue line, and there's Vivian Jungles. Jungles
whistled for the off side of Finley McCarthy and just
ahead of that one, and we'll get a neutralized face off.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
Yeah, Harvey there, I think she wanted, just could smell
a breakaway there and get going a little too far
and overskated the puck.
Speaker 1 (28:34):
Harvey's got a nose for the puck, and honestly, if
you're not taking it off sides every now and then,
you're probably being two conservatives. Hey, Badgers do win the
draw on neutral ice, but it's not handled cleanly and
comes all the way back beneath their goal line for
Aver Murphy, along the wall for Lady Potter, and now
a head to Halverson find scandal in neutral ice. She
dumps it in as the Badgers give Chase thirteen twenty
(28:55):
to play in the first period. Badger's up one nothing
A power play goal from Carolyn Harvey barely two minutes
in to the game. Is the difference so far. Beneath
the nett, Scannal trying to get after it. Now McCarthy
on the far wall, Halverson there as well. Scanneal comes
up with the hash marks sends it toward the net,
but it's easily picked up by Rosky before it makes
it to the goaltender. She breaks things out. Three on
(29:17):
three coming for the Mavericks. They tap it toward Ava
McNaughton and she'll wisely settle it down for a face off.
Speaker 2 (29:23):
Yeah that's the first time she's handled the puck today.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
Huh, Yeah, she hasn't hasn't had to touch it so far.
Only three shots on goal for the Badgers, none for
Minnesota State twelve fifty three to play in the first period,
so a lot of action, a lot of movement, but
not a lot of attacks on the goaltenders thus far.
Badgers win the draw. Venusio finds Harvey nice movement of
the puck for the Badgers as they quickly move into
(29:47):
center ice and then gain the Minnesota State zone. Put
the puck behind the net. Badger's trying to dig it
off the wall. Edward's along there. Yep, they managed to
get it cleanly. Now Venusio at the point side point
jeeks around. A defender comes to the face off, Dot
skates at beneath the net. Low angle shot. Tried to
bank it off the back of the goaltender, but it
went through and comes to neutral ice for Carolyn Harvey.
(30:10):
Twelve twenty four to go in this first period. Harvey
stops up, she's hassled and now Minnesota State picks that
one up in the slot, taken away by the stick
check of Casey O'Brien and now O'Brien hustling to get
the loose puck as it comes all the way down
to the Maverick zone. O'Brien putting pressure on Maverick's control
in their far corner. Turn it back the other direction.
They'll find Jamie Nelson. She's got it from Minnesota State
(30:31):
her past though intercepted by the Badger's and neutral ice.
Lela Edwards got it. Find Casey O'Brien again on that
right wing side. She has to check up, though on
a delayed off sides in Minnesota State will control. Eleven
fifty two to play in the first period. One nothing
Wisconsin out here in Mankato entering the zone that time
was Paddington stripped away by Jungles up the wall for
Gorbtenko in the Badger's zone. Loose puck gathered by Minnesota State.
(30:54):
Try another offensive attempt. Gorbatenko holding against the wall, there,
nice little hip check and shove, and Gorbatenko then gets
the loose puck pass ahead for Hall. Hall's got Eden
with her as she goes to the face off. Dot
backhand not handled cleanly. Hall following it up but couldn't
quite get the blade on it for the second chance opportunity.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
Yeah, Hanson got a glove on it, but it dropped
out for a potential rebound.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
Lady Potter pushed down to the ice as she attempted
a shot. It doesn't make it to the net. Minnesota
State has it in their own zone, high up off
the wall, and now we get a whistle and an
out of play. I believe was the signal that one
might have touched a stanchion and we'll get a face
off in the Minnesota State zone. Eleven thirteen to play
in this first period. Still won nothing Wisconsin thanks to
(31:34):
the power play goal. Very early in the first.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
Looks like Cassie Hall's going to take to draw here.
Speaker 1 (31:40):
Sure is Taylor Otremba her opponent. Hall wins that draw
and Lacy Eden sends it up to the point. Ava
Murphy at the point loses control of it. It's Goldsworthy
that's got it. For Minnesota State, but in center ice,
Emma Venusio gathers backhands it down into the Minnesota State zone.
Ten to fifty nine to play in the first period,
Gorbatenko towards the slot, picked up and skated away, that
(32:01):
time by Genessa Gastik. She had the cross checking penalty
that led to the Badger powerplay goal, the only goal
so far in this game. Up through neutral Isiso Tremba
a nice move around m of Venusio, but Murphy gets
to the puck in the corner first, sends it up
along the near side of the Badger boards, comes back
to her beneath the net. She'll control it there for Wisconsin.
Murphy takes a little shot from Jamie Nelson. Aggressive fore
(32:24):
check from the Mavericks finds Venusio, though Venusio back off
the wall bank to Murphy again far side of the
Badger zone. Now she finds Cassie Hall all looking for Wasnevitch.
Her passes out of Wasnevitch's reach comes down to the
end line, but the Badger's pick it up icing waved off.
It's Mary an Picard that controls in the Minnesota State zone.
Wasnevitch in the far corner, drops it off trying to
(32:46):
find Picard again. Wasnvitch now all the way up to
the center point into the high slot shot and it's deflected.
Doesn't make it through traffic, ends up just wide of
the net, backhand chance for Picard in front, nobody there
to grab it. Minnesota State puts it off their own
back wall and sends to the near side of their
own zone. Stepping in Wasnevitch to break up the pass.
Leads to a Badger turnover in neutral ice where they
(33:08):
control nine forty five to go in the first period.
Wisconsin up one nothing on Minnesota State. Out in Mankato.
Wasnevitch trying to get around the defensive work as Shelby
Getormpson Gettormpson skates it forward on the far side, loose
puck for was Nevitch again sends this one into the
corner where Finley McCarthy will chase after it. At the
point McCarthy loses control, but the Badger's grab it right
(33:31):
at center ice, dumping immediately back in. McCarthy putting pressure
on with the fore check along with scannal, loose puck
and neutral ice grabb by Audrey Garton of Minnesota State.
She puts it into the Badger zone. Lady Potter there
up the far side of the wall with nine ten
to play. Instead, it is covered by Haley Hanson. Halverson
ridden into Hanson and then into the wall. Let's take
(33:52):
a short break and be back. It's Badger's one, Minnesota
State zero. On AM ten seventy the game. Welcome back, everybody,
Mark Greene Hall and Zac seel off with you in studio.
The Badge on the road against Mankato State, excuse me,
against Minnesota State. Used to be called Manscato State. Now
theyir Minnesota State. Man Cato. The Mavericks trailing one nothing.
The Badgers have a powerplay goal off the stick of
Carolyn Harvey with assists from Kirsten Simms and Casey O'Brien.
(34:14):
And as we've been seeing replays, it looks like they
might be considering a goalie interference call.
Speaker 2 (34:19):
That's what I'm wondering to discuss in it. Yeah, we'll
see if there's a penalty assessed or not.
Speaker 1 (34:23):
I'm wondering if that's where we're going so far, i
haven't seen a penalty come up on my stat sheet here,
and it didn't look to me like there was anything malicious,
they were She and the defender were engaged. They ended
up going into the goalie, but I didn't think there
was anything of a penalty nature about it, and it
does look like they've decided not to call the penalty.
So we will have the face off in the far
(34:44):
side of the Minnesota State zone. Casey O'Brien will take
on Taylor Otremba in the faceof dot Badger's looking to
get another as they lead one nothing with nine minutes
even in the first period, Minnesota State controls in their
own zone. That's Bella Shipley. Shipley's passes intercepted though by
Leila Edwards in the low slide O'Brien A shut and
it's off the pad. Hanson just got the pad down
(35:04):
in time as Casey O'Brien another quick release oh Tremba
left wing edge of the Badger zone, pushed off the
puck by Landey Potter, who skates it away to the
far side of Wisconsin territory. Potter's got speed and lofts
the pass trying to find Leila Edwards Edwards behind the
d no icing here Edwards into the center shut and
just wide. Casey O'Brien from the hash Marks just pushed
it off the left post. Eight twenty nine to go.
(35:27):
Badger's on the attack. Now Minnesota State counters off the
back of the skid of Whitney Tunnels. She's able to
get into the Badger zone, but Potter forces it to
turn back towards the point and now she'll rim it
high off the glass and actually out of play. We'll
get a stoppage. With eight seventeen to go again, I
thought O'Brien had that one and she just missed.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
Yeah, Leila Edwards with that three hundred and sixty degree
vision there, she slides it over to O'Brien heading to
the slot.
Speaker 1 (35:52):
One thing I think when you see Edward skate, it
doesn't look like she's that fast, but it's because she's
got such long legs. She takes big strides. All of
a sudden, she's covered all this ground. A speedster move
to get that puck, well, loose puck in the slot
for Minnesota State. A shot in a pad saved from
Ava McNaughton off the draw. They had one right in center.
Take a shot. McNaughton makes a nice save. Eight minutes
(36:13):
even to play the Badger's up one nothing thanks to
the power play goal. Grbatenko in the slot of the
Badger zone loses control and now it's Beckenzie Borgerie with
it behind the net for Minnesota State. She feeds Paddington
working right in front of the referee in the corner.
Now Gourbtenko again on the far wall of the Badger's zone.
Nice pass up ahead to Cassie Hall. She comes into
the right wing edge. She's got a couple of teammates
(36:35):
with her, drops it towards Venusio. It's out of her
reach and turned around that time by Belli Shipley of
Minnesota State. Minnesota State's going to get a new forward line.
McNaughton stops the puck up for the Badgers behind their
own cage, trying to find her way forward to Carolyn Harvey.
Loose pocket comes to Shipley, feed into the center, shot
in a safe second, shot is deflected away. Now behind
the net, McNaughton on her back. She quickly gets up
(36:57):
seven to seventeen to go. Two good chances from Minnesota
S a stick in her hand, she does well, no,
you're right, she lost her goalie stick as well, and
Minnesota State still on the attack, Goldsworthy from the point
a shot off the top of the blocking glove. Yep,
the stick is pushed all the way to the corner.
Badgers move that puck to the near side. It's Lacy
Eden trying to dig that one off the wall. Cassie
(37:18):
Hall behind her own net for Wisconsin. Able to feed
one forward. Badgers go for a high lofted stretch pass
out of the reach of the intended target of Lacey Eden.
Coming back the other way is Langsyth of Minnesota State.
Feet across hash mark shot and another save tipped off
the blocker of Ava mcdonton. She's still without her stick,
as you said, coach, oh boy. Six point thirty six
(37:38):
to go in the period in Minnesota State on the attack,
Goldsworthy and neutral ice sends one of the far corner
of Wisconsin' zone. Vivian jungles there for Wisconsin. Sends it
behind the net for Harveysnevitch now through center ice pass
towards enright. She's able to accelerate it and keep it
moving into the Minnesota State zone. Good stick play from
Hanson of Minnesota State. The goaltender moved towards the center
(38:00):
point held by Landy Potter and she is just off sides.
Let that one just clear the blue paint. What a
sequence from Minnesota State. They were buzzing.
Speaker 2 (38:08):
Yeah, we saw that stretch there, that flurry. We saw
that they are very capable of doing things with a
puck when they get it in that high percentage area. Man,
they had about three or four really good shots.
Speaker 1 (38:20):
Yes, as we see replays here. Great job by Ava
McNaughton to fight off a couple of them that came
in from close. Minnesota State. Not a team to be
trifled with. And boy, you would love to get another
goal here to get some space off the face off.
The puck is immediately out of play and we'll do
it again in neutralized six oh seven to go in
the first period. The Carolyn Harvey power play goal at
two five the only score in this one nothing game.
(38:43):
O'Brien taking on o tremba just outside of the Minnesota
State zone. Laila Edwards has the face off and she
drops it into the far corner as O'Brien streaks after
it'll be picked up by Shelby Gatormpson of Minnesota State,
turns it back behind her own net where it's Ramirez up.
The Badger's putting pressure on Ava Murphy is there in
neutral ice, Leila Edwards and now we get a whistle
(39:06):
and a stoppage. There was a pair of players tied
up behind the play, and indeed there's still kind of
jawn at one another. I think we may have a
penalty coming here.
Speaker 2 (39:17):
I'm not sure if we're on the power player they are.
Speaker 1 (39:20):
I am not either. The referees haven't indicated clearly for us.
It might be Ava Murphy.
Speaker 2 (39:25):
Yeah, I think he's walking Murphy to the box.
Speaker 1 (39:27):
Sure, don't have anything on my screen just yet. Well,
while the rest are sorting this out, we'll take a
short break. You're listening to AM ten seventy the game
Badger's Hockey. Welcome back everyone. It was a Badger's penalty
against Ava Murphy, number nine called for interference. So on
the power play is Minnesota State and after that the
Badgers are able to backhand the put clear. Lacey Eden
(39:49):
sends it all the way down minute twenty five to
go on the Minnesota State powerplay. Five ten to go
in the period, it's one nothing Wisconsin. The shots on
goal have evened out five for Wisconsin, four for Minnesota State.
As the Minnesota State brings it up, it's Juliana Gastik.
Speaker 2 (40:04):
They got a pretty good power play. They spread out
in their patient they see one another, makes it difficult
to defend.
Speaker 1 (40:10):
And they are off sides on that play. They managed
to avoid the off sides of delayed off sides. But
here comes Sarahwasnevich. Wistnevich has support, Venusio backhands it towards her.
Venusio has to retreat and go back on defenses. Minnesota
State comes back on the counter attack. O Tremba taps
it past Venusio into the corner. She'll try and pick
it up there. Lady Potter battling with her along with Thenuzio.
But it is Minnesota State that comes out the better
(40:31):
of it. They control its machuga at the point center
point from Minnesota State face off, dots shot in a
shoulder save and a cover by Ava McNaughton. Nice job
to knock that one down to the ice with the
shoulder and cover it up. We'll get a face off
with thirty eight seconds left on the power play.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
Yeah, they're moving the puck pretty well, man cato is
you know they spread out. They got the three like
an umbrella up top, spreading out and patient.
Speaker 1 (40:55):
Sidney Langs hath fired that shot for Minnesota State. She'll
have the face off against case O'Brien. O'Brien wins it
for Wisconsin. Carolyn Harvey, behind her own net, tries to
send a clearing pass and she does gets it past
the blue liners of Minnesota State. Thirty seconds to go
on the power play, four fifteen to go on the period,
we're all square with shots on goal of five, but
one of those has gone in for Wisconsin. They're up
one nothing. Carolyn Harvey a power play goal, but Minnesota
(41:18):
State on the power play here they're pass at the
blue line is no good. They have to retreat into
neutral ice to set back up. Machuga on the near side.
Loose puck gathered into the slot lang Sets tries to
take it. What a job that time?
Speaker 2 (41:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (41:30):
Finley McCarthy pushes her off the puck, but her short
handed attempt is ended as she trips over the blue line.
Minnesota State coming back the other way, and just as
they do, Ava Murphy is out of the box. Both
teams are full strength as the Badgers successfully kill off
their first penalty of the night. Three forty to play.
In the first period, one nothing Wisconsin out in Mancato
against the Minnesota State Mavericks. Puck jammed up against the
(41:52):
wall in the far side of the Badger zone, both
teams trying to free it, five different skaters on the scene,
and now here's Finley McCarthy taps it toward the blue line.
Mavericks briefly send it out, but now we've got a chance.
With Lacy eating behind the defense to the Hashmarks eating
a one handed attempt and a pinball flippers save, the
net is off, we'll get a stoppage. Boy, she almost
lost control of that puck with her left hand, reached
(42:14):
out and swatted it one handedly. Hanson had to just
kick that right pad out and make the stop.
Speaker 2 (42:19):
I wish somebody would have been trailing that play, because
that save took Hanson well out of the net, leaving
an ocean of goal there to score, but not to
be so.
Speaker 1 (42:29):
The Badgers nearly get their second, but not quite. It
remains one nothing Wisconsin, but they win the draw. In
the Minnesota State zone. Kotlowski, who we didn't see last week,
back on Cassie Hall tries a backhanded shot Hansen clovers
it up. Clover. Oh, my covers it up cleanly is
what I meant to say. And we'll have another draw
in the Minnesota state zone. We see the pass from Kotlowski.
(42:51):
Here she finds Casey Cassie Hall Hall shot smothered by Hanson,
doesn't allow it to get by.
Speaker 2 (42:58):
Mary m.
Speaker 1 (42:59):
Picard to take the face off for the Badger's near
side of the Minnesota State zone. She wins the draw
and it's Kutlowski at the point opposite side for Venusio,
but it comes out just beyond the blue line and
Venusio's pushed up against the wall in front of the
player benches on the far side again five players trying
to dig that one out of the wall. Venusio turns
it the other way, swatted back immediately by Minnesota State.
(43:20):
But at the blue line of Wisconsin it's Marianne Picard
able to find Enwright, who puts it all the way
back into Minnesota State's territory.
Speaker 2 (43:27):
Good stick work by Picard, net traffic along the wall.
Speaker 1 (43:30):
Picard now digs it off of the far corner of
the Minnesota State zone. Take it away though by the
Mavericks and move to the near wall, Picard trying to
gather it there Mavericks Paddington able to move it clear.
Coming up with numbers along the outside edge is Juliana Gastik.
Katlowski gathers a loose puck behind her net, leaves it
(43:51):
along the near wall, where it's immediately taken away by Paddington.
She though has to send it back into neutral ice
dumped in by Minnesota State as they'll get a change.
Katlowski behind the net for the Badgers with two twelve
to go in the first period. Fancy move by Kutlowski.
She loses an edge though, and the loose puck for
Minnesota State shot and it's shouldered away again by McNaughton.
That time an active right shoulder for Ava. McNaughton is
(44:12):
keeping things in the Badger's favor. They're still up one nothing.
Re Entering the zone though, are the Mavericks loose puck
and here's Casey O'Brien tries to tap through, but a
nice job by Shelby Gatormpson to hold the zone for
Minnesota State. Ava Murphy stops up cleanly in her far side.
One touch pass finds Cassie O'Brien O'Brien towards Leila Edwards,
who chips it in to save the icing and immediately
(44:33):
grabs the puck Beneathannette Edwards distribute into the slots, skated
away by Minnesota State. Good clean defense and now Sidney
Langxeth has it into neutralized for Mancato. Lady Potter deep
in the Badger zone, circles around and looks for an opening.
With a minute twenty six to play in the first period,
coming ahead is Wisconsin's Ava Murphy. Puck pinballs off of Genesagastick,
(44:54):
who had the penalty in early in the first period
that led to the Badger goal minute thirteen in this
first period, now pucking neutral ice, coming back towards the
Badger's own sliding forward is Kulowski along with Potter. Nice
angle passed to find Potter on the opposite side. She
sends it up the near wall, but o Tremba is
there from Minnesota State, still in Badger territory, wanting to
send that one into the slot. Was Tutnel nothing doing.
(45:16):
Minnesota State's passed that time broken up to the near wall,
but the Mavericks trying for another shot here loose puck
in front of a of McNaught and she couldn't cover it.
Second shot is saved. O Tremba had one set. Third
shot and I think she got that with the paddle
of the stick. Oh my word, a shot from Julianna
gas Dick. I can't believe McNaughton made the save. Thirty
eight seconds to go, Badger's and neutral ice. Gorbatenko right
(45:38):
in front of the Badger's bench again pushed up against
the wall, this time by O Tremba. A couple more
players skate in twenty eight seconds to go. The puck's
still frozen up against that wall right in front of
the Badger bench, and now we get a whistle and
a stoppage. How about Ava McNaughton facing some very difficult shots.
Speaker 2 (45:54):
Yeah, there's a couple things that uh Minnesota state man
Cato's showing us here as they know how to create
high percentage opportunities. And you don't want to play a
man short either. That powerplay they had earlier was pretty effective.
Speaker 1 (46:06):
Twenty five seconds to go in this first period, Badgers
win the draw into neutral ice. Vivian jungles right at
the blue line. It's tapped byre and Hustling after it
as Bellis Shipley of Minnesota State. Jungles shields are away
from the pot. Cassie Hall up the near wall for Gorbatenko,
who lofts the high one into the neutral ice loose
Pucket the blue line picked up by Paddington into the
(46:27):
corner for Borgerie back towards Paddington, but Jungles is there
intercepts the pass, skates to the far side. But now
we get a stoppage and the time will expire prior
to that stoppage, So the first period is over. It's
won nothing Wisconsin, but not for lack of trying on
Minnesota State's part. They get three shots in the space
of about twenty seconds. They have seven shots to six advantage,
but the Badgers have a one to nothing score advantage.
Speaker 2 (46:49):
Yeah, it's They played right up to the buzzer there
on that end of that first period too. They created
some good chances, took some goaltending by Ava there to
shut the door.
Speaker 1 (46:59):
We see great replay of the score by Carolyn Harvey.
That is the only score in this game. It's one
nothing Wisconsin. But Minnesota State's a good team and we've
got forty minutes of hockey left. Stay tuned for some interviews,
the intermission show, and more. You listening to Wisconsin Badger
Women's hockey on AM ten seventy the game, Welcome back everybody.
After a very exciting first period, it's Wisconsin one, Minnesota
state zero and coach we talked about it, this does
(47:20):
not seem like a team that should be six seven
and one or two seven to one in the WCCHA,
and in that period they showed why.
Speaker 2 (47:27):
Yeah, not at all. You can take their record and
throw it out the window. You're gonna face these Mavericks.
You're gonna have a game on your hands like we
have today. And they're indicative by the shots. They've outshot
us seven to six in the first period, and you
know they take advantage of the opportunities they get too,
So we really got to play on us today.
Speaker 1 (47:46):
We're gonna hear from Brionna Decker later in the period,
but for right now, just looking at the stats, Badgers
with one goal, six shots on goals, seven shots on
goal for the Mavericks. As you said, no scores for them.
The Badgers one for one on the power play, and
it was that cross checking penalty against Genessa Gastik that
led to the Carolyn Harvey score. A interference penalty against
Avin Murphy was not converted by Minnesota State. They're oh
(48:08):
for one on the power play face offs, hugely in
favor of Wisconsin. Fourteen face off wins for the Badgers,
just four for the Mavericks. So the centerman doing work
for Wisconsin today.
Speaker 2 (48:18):
One thing, I want to make sure that our linemates
do here and the centers are winning the draw, but
our wings got to be on that puck right away
otherwise you know the Mavericks will pick it up and
go with it absolutely.
Speaker 1 (48:30):
Just before we go to the interview with Decker, I
want to tell you the answer to the trivia question.
So six hundred and fifty five wins is number eight
on the list. That's just ahead of Mark Johnson at
number nine, six forty six. Do you have a guess
as to who it is?
Speaker 2 (48:41):
I'm just going to throw this out of there, out
of the clear blue, Jack Parker from Boston University Men's.
Speaker 1 (48:47):
That's not a bad guess. Unfortunately, it is not the
right answer. The answer is actually someone near and dear
to a lot of listeners' hearts. I'm sure who are
listening to this broadcast. Jeff Sower. Oh wow, Jeff Sower
is number eight. I miss him with six fifty five.
Tragic lost to pancreatic cancer in twenty seventeen, but a
tremendous coach and a tremendous hockey personality in presence over
(49:07):
his lifetime.
Speaker 2 (49:08):
What a guy, What a guy.
Speaker 1 (49:09):
Absolutely all right, we're gonna hear from Brionna Decker. We'll
have more for you on the intermission show. This is
Wisconsin Badger Women's hockey on AM ten seventy the game.
Welcome back everyone to the intermission show. It was great
to hear from Bella Vassar during that break. And now
(49:31):
we have just about a minute and a half left
until we come back for the second period. It's one
nothing Wisconsin in the first period thanks to the Carolyn
Harvey power play goal. And with that goal, Carolyn Harvey
broke a tie for third place in school history with
her one hundred and ninth point, passing Courtney Burke for
third all time in points from a defenseman. She's also
now the only UW defender with three seasons of thirty
(49:51):
five plus points. That kind of offensive production from any
player would be welcome from a blue liner. It's it's phenomenal.
Speaker 2 (49:58):
Yeah, she's an and like you said, three years in
a row, that many points already and just so productive.
She kind of reminds me of like like the female
Bobby Orr as far as the way she changes the
game from that defensive position.
Speaker 1 (50:12):
How about Ava mcdonwton at the end of that period,
shot shot after shot from high danger areas inclose talented shooters,
and she keeps Wisconsin up won nothing. A tremendous effort
from the sophomore goalie.
Speaker 2 (50:25):
Yeah, she found herself in not the best position necessarily
after the first one or two saves, but she stayed
on it and continued to track the puck with her
head and eyes all the way and giving herself a
chance each time to stop the puck.
Speaker 1 (50:38):
On the other end of the nice Another sophomore, Haley
Hanson out of Blame Minnesota for the Minnesota State Mavericks.
She's had to fight off more than a few herself.
But the Badgers, I feel like it seemed like they
had a little bit of an edge and offense. They
had a couple that missed just wide. They had an
opportunity that she made a killer save on. If they
keep pushing. It feels like there's more there to be
had for Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (50:58):
Yeah, if we can kapit lies on just one of
those and that's you know, that changes things. You gotta
gotta make it count.
Speaker 1 (51:05):
Badger's in the faceoff dot it's Case O'Brien taking on
Taylor Otremba. The Badgers do win the draw and we
are underway in the second period. One nothing Wisconsin thanks
to a powerplay goal from Carolyn Harvey with a sist
from Case O'Brien and Kirsten Sims at two oh five
in the first period. That's the only scoring so far
in this game. Moving left to right in this period
ours Minnesota State and they bring it into the Badger
(51:26):
zone on the far side, where Vivian Jungles pushes the
puck area up against the wall and gets the puck
to Carolyn Harvey. Harvey, after swinging over the top, regains
control and finds Sims, who enters on the left wing side.
She's just got one defender to beat. Feed to the
slot drop for Harvey's shot is just wide. Sims to
O'Brien to Harvey a tic tac toe pass and Harvey
pushed it just up over the right corner and then
that she had a lot of twine to look at
(51:48):
just wide on the shot. Now here's Leila Edwards three
on two, She's got Sims and O'Brien. Edwards to Sims
out of her reach, tracks it behind the net for
O'Brien up to the far wall with nineteen eleven to
play in the in the second period, still one nothing
Wisconsin after the Badgers had a great opportunity. Minnesota State,
though able to break up the attack of the first
line there and they bring it forward. This time a
(52:08):
shot coming in from Langsith the captain goes through the
blue paint but doesn't do any damage and a nice
whip out to Cassie Hall who comes up the left
wing side haul to the bottom of the circle. Backhand
shot is off the glove of Hansen comes right back
to Hall who puts it to the far wall. Ava
Murphy center point sends it back down that way, coming
the other direction for Kelly Gorbatenko on the near side.
She takes a little shove for her efforts and the
(52:28):
puck behind the net for the Badgers, once again still
in Minnesota State territory. Lacy Eden on the outside edge
backhand shot gets to Gorbatenko. She tries to put in
the slot. It's off the skate of an MSU defender.
Eighteen twenty eight to play in the second period. One
nothing Wisconsin out here in Mankato pass up off the
wall for the Badgers towards the blue line, gathered by
Minnesota State, sent back to Badger territory. Ava mcnonton'll stop
(52:51):
it up for Ava Murphy behind the net. The Badger
defenseman puts it up a long stretch past to Gorbatenko,
who does get the touch on, but it's skated away
by Borgerie. Minnesota State up through center ice to Shipley.
She gets a touch on, saves the icing Murphy in
the corner of the Badger zone behind the net. Oh oh, Royeah.
Dangerous chance for Landy Potter and the slot nearly had
(53:11):
it knocked off her tape and right into Ava McNaughton,
but the Badgers are able to send it into the
neutral zone with seventeen fifty two to go in the
second period.
Speaker 2 (53:18):
Like I always say, Zach, you don't want to work
in your stickhanling drills when you're the last person back.
Speaker 1 (53:23):
Other than that, absolutely not behind the net. The Badgers
have it in their own zone, send it up the
near wall for Gorbtenko, chips it along in front of
the scorer's table. She and Waznevitch trying to dig it
off the wall as they're hassled by Minnesota State. Gorbtenko
will head off the ice and get a change as
the puck comes behind the Badger. Neette was seventeen twenty
seven ago in the second period one nothing Wisconsin. Eight
(53:45):
shots on goal in this game at four Minnesota State
six for Wisconsin, but the powerplay goal got by, and
that's the difference so far. Badger's try a slot passed,
nothing doing, but Marian Picard has it on the far
edge up to the point, out of the reach of
Ema Venusio. She has to gather it in center ice
Carolyn Harvey there she turns it the other way as
the Badger's re enter the zone. It's that third line
of was Neevitch, Enwright and Picard. Was Nevitch's shot is
(54:07):
off a skate to the far wall for Venusil. She
finds Picard behind the net farboards past tour instead is
intercepted by the Mavericks coming up the near side as
Madison ma Sugar behind the net, frave of McNaughton to
stop up. As Masugar gets her team a change and
right and center ice, she'll dump as the Badgers give
chase picked up by Minnesota State, though quickly turned around
(54:29):
the other direction for Jamie Nelson. Nelson to the far
hashmarks on the opposite side, drops towards the point, out
of reach of the intended target, and the puck back
in the neutral zone. Sixteen thirty to play in the
second period, one nothing, Wisconsin. The only scoring at two
o five in the first period from Carolyn Harvey on
a power play goal. At the point the Badgers do
manage to tap the puck towards the player benches and
(54:49):
into neutral ice. Minnesota State regathers Nelson at the point
she'll accelerated into Badger territory. Immediately McCarthy has it, though
turns it the other way. She attempts a long stretch
pass to he Alverson. It's out of her reach and
icing is the call. We're going to take a short break.
We'll be right back on Am ten seventy the game.
Welcome back everyone. The Badger's in action against Minnesota State
It's fifteen forty eight to go in the second period.
(55:11):
Badger's control the pucket the neutral ice and now they're
bringing it forward. It's Halverson and O'Brien. Halverson to the
outer hash marks and we get a whistle for and
off side. Let's yep, let's pause ten seconds for a
station id here on AM ten seventy. The game. That's
who we are and what we're covering is Wisconsin Badger
women's hockey. The Badger's up one nothing in the second
period against the Minnesota State Mavericks. Face off from neutral
(55:31):
ice off the off side's call goes back into the
Wisconsin zone for Vivian Jungles into center ice for Casey
O'Brien drops to Sims at the point. Back to O'Brien
on the give and go near side Leila Edwards just
beneath the that Sims, let's it go through to Jungles
at the center point. O'Brien outer hashmarks on the near side,
feed the Sims all alone walks it in and a
save off the elbow of Hailey Hansen. Kirsten Sims will
(55:55):
victimize you from that position. I can't believe they let
her get that open What a stop, yeah by the
sophomore goaltender.
Speaker 2 (56:01):
Yeah. I thought for sure Sims would bury that one.
But a great stop by h Hanson on.
Speaker 1 (56:06):
That fifteen oh two to go in the second period.
One nothing Wisconsin on the power play goal from Carolyn
Harvey in the first period, pass it to center ice
from Minnesota State, brings it down to the badger zone
near side Leila Edwards sends it across for Sims in
front of the player benches as they work through the
neutrals out. Sims crosses up with Edwards, drops the pass
tour at the top of the circle O'Brien into the
(56:27):
slot backhand the Sims back door. Score. Yeah, Edwards to
O'Brien to Sims. What a backhanded pass from O'Brien to
find Kirsten Sims who puts it away on the short side.
It's two nothing Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (56:40):
Beautiful play that involved all three of those line mates
that result in that beautiful goal by obrah by Sims
at the end. Just a tick tac toll movement of
the puck. I love it, oh man. Yeah, you got Sims,
who's a right hander. She's on the off wing in
the back door there to bang it home you goal.
Speaker 1 (56:59):
You could have a whiteboard with a marker and not
draw it up any prettier than that.
Speaker 2 (57:04):
That instructional video was exactly folks.
Speaker 1 (57:07):
If you're new to the game of hockey, head on
YouTube find that clip, watch it, learn it, do it,
and your coaches will be very happy with you. Fourteen
twenty six to go in the second period, Badger's up
now two to nothing thanks to the Kirstensims score assisted
by Casey O'Brien and Leyla Edwards. Puck in the neutral
zone works its way all the way back to the
Mavericks territory. They try for a stretch pass and it's
(57:28):
picked off and Cassie Hall starts in top of the circle,
shot off the shoulder of Hanson. Once again, the shoulders
of both these goaltenders have been active, both teams attacking
the top of the net near the crossbar. Fourteen minutes
even to play in the second period, two nothing, Badgers
on top of Minnesota state man Cato. Mavericks try to
get it beneath the net of Wisconsin Instead, Avia Murphy
takes it away, pass up ahead towards Gorbatenko. Not sure
(57:51):
if she laid a stick on she did not icing
the call. We'll head back to the Badger zone.
Speaker 2 (57:55):
Yeah, you mentioned that those shoulder saves as goaltenders in
the modern era. You're just grateful for good equipment. I
remember when I used to wear like my mom's quilt
and i'ven met and it didn't have much to work
with there. But there's a lot to be said for
preventing injuries here.
Speaker 1 (58:09):
You had to walk uphill both ways to get to
the ring. College days. Yeah, thirteen forty six to go.
Face off in the Badger zone is controlled by Minnesota State,
but the Badger's defense able to knock it into the
neutral zone, taking it back to her own defenseve zone
is Lorgal. She taps it ahead for Claire Veckage, but
Cassie Hall picks it up in the Badger zone. Good
back check by Hall up the near wall. Hall is
(58:31):
another one. Has kind of deceptive speed. Yeah, all of
a sudden right where she needs to be.
Speaker 2 (58:36):
Yeah, you don't hear from her for a while, and
then she steps, you know, makes a big play.
Speaker 1 (58:40):
In her own zone. It's Ava Murphy for Wisconsin, trying
to get it past the fore check of Minnesota State.
Nice job by Hall to tap that one ahead to
Gorba Tanco at the blue line. Minnesota State turns it
the other way back beneath the net of McNaughton.
Speaker 2 (58:52):
You know, Zach, you play a team like this, there's
no margin for error, just little things that don't seem
that important, like just clearing the puck out of the zone.
You don't do the right things. They keep it in
and then they get a scoring opportunity. So every shift
counts here against a team like the Mavericks here.
Speaker 1 (59:06):
And then there's a way that they remind me of
the Badgers in that way, when they seen it's an opening,
they immediately strike.
Speaker 2 (59:11):
That's what the badge on it.
Speaker 1 (59:12):
Yeah, the Badgers have done so well this season in
Minnesota State. You can tell is doing the same.
Speaker 2 (59:16):
Yeah, they're well coached.
Speaker 1 (59:17):
Twelve forty three to go, the Badgers are in the
Minnesota State zone. W Wasnevitch working away all the way
around the rink, dumps the pack off the near side
wall for Claire Enwright twelve thirty two to go in
the second period and right skates beneath the net, looks
to distribute backhands towards wa Wasnevitch, who's got it in
the far corner, sends along to Picard on the near
(59:38):
corner opposite direction up to the point Vivian Jungles plays
it with the skate, keeps it away from the fore
check of Minnesota State. Now the slot for Picard. She
can't get the shot off, though aggressive defense keeps her way.
And here's a whiskey. Lauren's a whiskey pushing her way
towards McNaughton. Tries a one handed shot, she can't get
it to go. Excellent defense that time, put on by
Sarah Waznevitch backchecks Jungles too. Oh yeah, excuse me, that
(01:00:00):
was Vivian Juggles. You're right, number twenty, the only one
back there, and she would not let them get an opportunity.
Speaker 2 (01:00:05):
No, that skater was fast, but Jungles is the smooth
as skater as you're ever going to find too.
Speaker 1 (01:00:10):
Loren's Oweski, the sophomore forward body's hitting the ice as
the badger's control behind their own net out of reach
and now a turn over top of the circle shot
and what a glove save. Mackenzie Boorge Ray fired one
to the glove side of McNaughton, and she handles it
cleanly with eleven forty one to go in the second period.
Speaker 2 (01:00:27):
That was weird, Paul. The puck came off the wall
sidewall like by the hash marks and a freaky bounce
and right on a Maverick stick for a good shot
and it's good glove saved by Ava.
Speaker 1 (01:00:37):
How many times have you seen a weird bounce lead
to a goal as the defense is suddenly out of position,
You've got to count on your goalie there, and the
Badgers know they can. McNaughton has stopped all nine shots
that she's faced in this game so far. Badgers on
the face off control, working it up through neutra ice
Finley McCarthy has it stripped away by the aforementioned Bors array.
She enters at the center point of the Badger's territory
(01:00:57):
and she dilly delied a little bit too long on
that blue line, gets called for off sides. We'll take
a neutralized face off.
Speaker 2 (01:01:03):
Yeah, you want to commit, and she didn't. She hesitated
and resulted in that.
Speaker 1 (01:01:08):
Any coach, and I've never been a coach exactly, but
as like a player, coach or fellow player, you see
your teammates stick handling along the blue line, you're like,
you gotta go, you gotta go bad place.
Speaker 2 (01:01:17):
Do it, get in the zone, then stick handle if
you need to, but don't do it right at the
blue line.
Speaker 1 (01:01:20):
They win the draw, they send to the hashmark shot
and the pad save from McNaughton. A great job to
be right in position. A second shot comes in, it
does make it to the pad and another stop. Jaden Seafert,
the senior. Her first career point was against Wisconsin on
October twenty ninth. Back in twenty twenty one. McNaughton makes
a couple and I saves the first shot. We see
here great pinball flippers save. It comes back to Seafort
(01:01:42):
as she picks up the loose pocket. Was Madison with
sugar that had the first shot and it is two
nothing Badgers, but they cannot relax. Minnesota State putting pressure
on with eleven fourteen to go in the second period.
Cassie Hall against Taylor Otremba. Hall wins that draw and
it's Harvey behind the net of Wisconsin. Vivian jungles into
center ice touched by Minnesota State. Should be no icing call,
(01:02:03):
and indeed it comes all the way down for Eden,
though they do call it icing. I thought Minnesota State
had a touch on it.
Speaker 2 (01:02:08):
Yeah, sould is Zach It looked like it, but guess.
Speaker 1 (01:02:10):
Not, yep icing the call, and so we will head
it back to the Wisconsin zone for another face off.
Very even so far in shots on goal, as we've mentioned,
nine from Minnesota State, eight for Wisconsin. Eleven zero four
to play in the second period, it's two nothing Badgers
face off remains on the faceof dot No one controlling.
Now Wisconsin has it. It's Carolyn Harvey in her own
far corner. Jungles here near side up ahead to Finley McCarthy.
(01:02:36):
Fourth liners out there for of the Badgers. Hannay Halverson,
nice backhanded pass to find McCarthy. She dipsy doodles her
way around a defender, flying through the air. She continues
to fight for that puck in the zone, just missed
by Eden, nearly had an interception and now coming the
other way as Musuga. She has to dump it off
as she goes for a change. Jungles up the wall
to McCarthy in the Badger zone. Ten thirty three to
(01:02:57):
go in the second period. Jungles a pass ahead towards
Eden into the corner of the Minnesota State Maverick zone.
They backhand it to the near wall where it'll be
taken by Veckich. At the point McCarthy holds Veckett, shoves
her up against the wall, but she fights through and
continues for that puck on the near side. Now Vecket
you able to clear it into neutral ice. Borgerie has
it back to Vetchich on the right wing side of
(01:03:19):
the Badger zone, and Wisconsin sends it back to the
blue line of Minnesota State. Loose puck gathered in neutral ice.
It's Rosky of Minnesota State. A long shot away blockered
down cleanly by McNaughton. Nine to fifty eight to go
in the second period, two nothing Wisconsin. Carolyn Harvey has
one goal, kirst and Sims has the other. The Harvey
goal was a power play goal. The Sims goal even
(01:03:40):
strength Badgers in the neutral zone. Now Cassie Hall enters
top of the circle on the far side. Nice cross
ice pass to Murphy outer Hashmark's near side, drops off
for Laila Edwards bottom of the circle center point. Now Venusio.
Venusio a shot from the center point blockered cleanly to
Casey O'Brien on the far side at the point is
Kirsten Sims. O'Brien trades down low for Edwards beneath the
(01:04:04):
net instead picked up by Goldsworthy of Minnesota State near wall.
Goldsworthy comes back to her at the blue line. Her pass,
though is out of reach of its intended target and
Venusio will have it in the Badger zone. Nine to
fourteen to go in the second period to nothing. Wisconsin
out here in Mancato against the Minnesota State Mavericks. Mavericks
strip Venusio. She enters their zone, send it the other
(01:04:24):
way Garten entering for Minnesota State. She's pushed against the
wall by Landy Potter. Able to get the puck forward,
O'Brien's got ahead of steam. She puts the coals to
it through center Isis. She comes in nice pass across
to Sims. Sims goes for Edwards, but Edwards was cutting
the inside. Nice job to pinch up by Landy Potter.
Puck on the near wall. O'Brien looking for it. She
(01:04:45):
finds Potter at the top of the opposite circle and
it is just poked away from her. She would have
had a golden opportunity there great intervention by the Minnesota
State Devents eight thirty four to go in the second period.
Puck loose at the blue line of Minnesota State, now
sent down behind their net, will get a line change
as they have the opportunity here. Puckin neutralized for Vivian Jungles,
(01:05:06):
sends it across to Lady Potter. Badger's defense working within
in their own zone now ahead, and the loose puck
comes to Wsnevitch. She's got Picard in the center. Shot
in the save. Great pass to Picard in the slot
it was Haley Hanson makes the stop. Eight o eight
to go in the second period, two nothing Wisconsin pucked
down beneath the net of the Badgers. Harvey has it there,
(01:05:27):
sends it up the near wall. Badger's coming three on
Twosnevitch outer side into the middle for Picard. A shot
deflected away to the rear Wallsnevitch has it there again
near side. Hash Marks drops it behind her for Picard,
trailing Picard to the point for Carolyn Harvey. Harvey with
two defenders on her and Wasnevitch looks like she might
have taken a hit. Very slow to get up in
(01:05:48):
the center of that play. Seven forty to go in
the second period, McCarthy has the loose puck. McCarthy enters
the zone, she's got picard to the outside and is
whistled for off sides. Let's take thirty seconds to be
right back. It's Badger on am ten seventy the game.
Welcome back, everyone's ex seal off of Mark Greenhall with you.
In the second period of this exciting WCHA game. The
(01:06:08):
number one Wisconsin Badgers are on the road against the
Minnesota State man Cato Mavericks. The Badgers have a two
nothing lead and at that media timeout, coach we were
trying to read the lips a little bit of coach
Mark Johnson. You could see him gesticulating pretty severely there,
and you were talking turnovers a problem against this team
because Minnesota State does not give you any space at all.
Speaker 2 (01:06:28):
Oh no, it's a skin tight operation here. We're thirty
three minutes into the game and we mustered ten shots total,
and you just cannot afford to cough the puck up.
Speaker 1 (01:06:39):
Both teams with ten shots on goal. The Badgers, though,
have had two of them fall off the face off.
Minnesota State jams it up and out of play. You
and I were also talking off air along with our
producers today, there's got to be a way to build
up women's hockey in some of these places where it
hasn't quite caught on because there is almost no one
at this game, And boy, what a game do we
(01:06:59):
have here for people to watch.
Speaker 2 (01:07:01):
Yeah, I'm kind of surprised. Now. It was a pretty
early start for something. You know, it's hard to get
out of work and stuff at at early hour. But yeah,
you know, I mean Mankato's hockey area and good facility,
great team. I expected more people or some people to
be in the stands, but not the case.
Speaker 1 (01:07:19):
Badgers with a quick shot from Leila Edwards still loose
in front for Kirsten Sims. She can't get that one
to go. O'Brien recontrols back to Edward's shot is just high,
takes the back glass, Obrien back towards the center, and
Minnesota State finally does skate it away, almost held by
Leila Edwards, but now here comes Minnesota State on the
counter attack. The Badgers get two, three, maybe four shots
(01:07:39):
on net or at least four shots in that sequence. Yeah,
an outstanding bit of effort. And now Edwards has it
in center ice once again, coming in with Sims and O'Brien.
She chips it all the way to the back wall,
where Juliana Gastik will try and clear it along the
near side instead, intercepted by Sims beneath the Nette shot
towards the middle is broken up by the defense of
Minnesota State. Edwards tried to put it into the slot
(01:08:00):
at the point, holds it sends it down the near side,
picked up there by Minnesota State. Cross ice pass though
is out of reach of the intended target and comes
all the way down for icing with six twenty five
to go in the second period.
Speaker 2 (01:08:11):
Yeah, it's just every shift counts here, doesn't it. I mean,
no margin for error, as I mentioned earlier, not to
be redundant, but you just got to make the right decisions.
Keep it simple, don't cough the puck up, don't turn
it over.
Speaker 1 (01:08:26):
Bears repeating. But there is no space for either team
in here. If you give the others an opening, they're
going to take advantage. What a shot from the center
point by ma Venusio and a great save interception in
the center is fired by Eden and doesn't make it
through to the goaltender puck in the near side of
the Minnesota State zone. Six ZHO nine to play in
this second period to nothing is the Wisconsin lead. The
(01:08:47):
number one Badgers taking on Minnesota State in a WCCHA
Conference battle out in man Cato. Mavericks up the near
side wall through neutral ice, turning on it as veck
it as she holds it in the Badger's zone, Aveamr
fighting behind the net instead. It's lengths that the captain
tends it through traffic, goes through the blue paint, but
nobody able to lay a stick on it. Getormsen and
(01:09:08):
neutral ice. She takes a little bit of a shove
from Gorbatenko, Hall hassling her along with Eden as well
the Badger forwards putting pressure on in neutral ice. Minnesota State,
though able to chip it into the Badger zone behind
the net. Ava Murphy far corner for Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (01:09:24):
You know we saw on that earlier shift here, anybody
behind the net our own net. You've got to get
possession of that puck, because if you don't, in the
opposition does bang, it's all front right away. If they
got somebody in the slot, they got a great opportunity.
Speaker 1 (01:09:37):
Minnesota State's for check has been very effective against Wisconsin.
They do that better than most of the other opponents
that Wisconsin has played. Yes, Badgers accelerate through neutral ice.
Here's Clara en right looking to feed. Excuse me, Cassie
Hall the past tour, though, was bouncing and she couldn't
settle it down through the slot. Four fifty nine to
play in the second period, still to nothing Wisconsin. As
Minnesota State comes on the rush coming the other way
(01:09:58):
now trying to dangle through traffic, comes to McNaughton. She'll
gather it with the stick and save it down. Alexis Paddington,
the senior forward, had some nice moves but wasn't able
to get a shot out of it. As she approached
the goal.
Speaker 2 (01:10:09):
That puck was just bouncing around there by her skates
and her stick. I didn't know what it was going
to go off last, but fortunately Aba McNaughton knew.
Speaker 1 (01:10:17):
And we see Paddington here trying to play it with
the skates. She did actually kick that one toward McNaughton,
so even if it had gotten by, I think that
would have been a distinct kicking motion. But off the
draw it is won by Minnesota State. They control in
the Badger zone, put it behind the net. No it
is intercepted. Nice job to pick that one off by
En right behind the net, gets it all the way
out of the Badger zone. The laid off sides will
(01:10:38):
force Minnesota State to check up pucking neutral ice Wasnevitch
and Picard trying to push it all the way down
into the Maverick zone, gathered there by Jaden Seaffert up
the near side. Vivian Jungles in Badger's territory puts it
to the rear wall for Landy Potter. Potter hassled by Otremba,
and they pushed the puck up against the wall behind
the Badger Nette. With four fifteen to play in the
(01:10:59):
second period, lots of players trying to dig that one
out from behind o Trembe Skate Badgers seem to have
it loose. It does come to the near wall towards
Finley McCarthy loosen the slot, but nobody gets a shot on.
Is that one rocketed off the wall? A big shove
from behind from Lady Potter and a penalty coming up.
This one's going to go against Potter. The extra attacker
will be out from Minnesota State Badgers are able to
(01:11:21):
intercept and whistle it down, so the Badgers will have
a two minute penalty kill with three p fifty one
to play in the second period, it's two nothing Wisconsin,
but Minnesota State's going on the power play.
Speaker 2 (01:11:32):
Yeah, potter, what was she called?
Speaker 1 (01:11:34):
They're calling a cross checking?
Speaker 2 (01:11:35):
Okay, Potter, run across check. Well, let's see if we
can kill this off here.
Speaker 1 (01:11:42):
That's the second penalty against Wisconsin tonight. Ava Murphy was
called for interference in the first period. The Badger's killed
that off. The one penalty against Minnesota State was also
for cross checking that led to a Badger power play goal,
their first goal of the game from Carolyn Harvey.
Speaker 2 (01:11:56):
Looking at the replay, you can see that the official
had no alternative, but that a penalty.
Speaker 1 (01:12:00):
Yep, that one not. You can tell what she was
going for, but got a little bit out ahead of herself.
Off the drum, Minnesota State controls. They'll set up on
offense near sidefaceoff dot send to the center point, back
to the faceoff dot. Shot is deflected by the defense
and cleared. Solid work on the PK for the Badgers
to start minute forty on the powerplay. Three point thirty
in the period two nothing Wisconsin, and they do now
(01:12:23):
have a slight excuse me, slight edge and shots on
goal twelve to ten in favor of the Badgers. Entering
on the right wing side that time was Alexis Paddington.
Nice job by Lacy Eden to stop the puck back
hands it out. That pitchforking motion clears it for the Badgers.
They'll get some new penalty killers. With a minute twenty
left on the power play, loose puck for Juliana Gastick
(01:12:43):
in her own zont pressure by Edwards, passed through center.
Now's the captain Langsyth. She's hassled by two different Badgers
and pushed to the near wall. Vivian Jungles breaks up
a pass as it comes Tonevitch and Wasnevitch gets it
to the blue line held by Minnesota State, put down
back beneath the net for Tremba. She works her way
to the top of the opposite circle center point, now
(01:13:04):
far side for Langxith center point again. Wine settles it down.
Langs at the top of the near circle, passed towards
Ava McNaughton. Great job by the Badgers to get sticks
in the lanes Ava Murphy. Yeah, did not let that
pass go through. They had a player on the back door.
McNaughton was in good position Langsyth near side up to
the center point. Thought about a shot now far side
(01:13:26):
center point again there the shot does come through Pad
say from McNaughton's second shot and the score. McNaughton went
down on her face after the first shot, was not
able to get the stop and Madison with sugar puts
it past her. It's two to one Wisconsin. After the
power play goal from Minnesota State.
Speaker 2 (01:13:45):
Oh, son of a gun. Let's see that's from this
angle here.
Speaker 1 (01:13:50):
Save initially dove and she stretched full pad to keep
the yep, kept it covered, but couldn't get the blocker
up quite high enough, not quite as she as high
as she wanted. And it's two to one. And we
talked about mistakes and unfortunately the power play does victimize
the Badgers here they give up the penalty and that
leads to the score for Minnesota State at seventeen forty
(01:14:13):
one in the second period. Two to one Wisconsin. And
we've got a game on our hands in the WCCHA.
Whenever WCCHA opponents get together, you know, you're going to
have a contest. Badgers put the puck into the zone
of Minnesota State. Lacy Eden tries a backhanded shot. It
flutters just over the top of the net, out of
the reach of Haley Hanson, and comes to the far
wall of the Mavericks territory. With a minute fifty seven
(01:14:34):
to play in the second period, two to one Wisconsin
after the Madison with Sugar power play goal after the
cross checking penalty against Landy Potter, puck has finally dug
off the wall. It's passed up into neutral ice. Badgers
control it there, send it all the way to the
far side, where Minnesota State will try and gather. Vivian Jungles,
though pinches up and does not allow them to give
forward Gorbatenko back to Harvey toward Garbtenko again. She'll chip
(01:14:57):
it in and the Badgers will give Chase Goetorpsen first
on the scene from Minnesota State behind her own net,
hassled by corbetancoh Scorbutenko works all the way around the zone,
but now here's Goetorpskin worth working through center ice. They're
able to enter on sides, but the Badgers immediately have
it here's Cassie Hall as it comes to escape, gives
it to Lacy Eaton on the near wall. But they
are just off sides. So the minute fifteen to go
(01:15:19):
in the second period, we'll take a neutralized face off.
Two to one Wisconsin out here in Mankato, boil.
Speaker 2 (01:15:26):
Boy here, minute fifteen left in a two to one game.
Shots almost even.
Speaker 1 (01:15:31):
You got an exciting hockey game here. And if you're
hearing my voice and you're somehow out in Mankato, swing
by the stadium. There's seats available. Yeah, and this is
a good one to watch.
Speaker 2 (01:15:40):
Just a few seats available.
Speaker 1 (01:15:41):
Minnesota State controls off that face off. Working through the
neutral zone. Come in on the right wing side of
the Badger's territory at Sidney Langseth. She picks up the
puck behind the net, turns the other way. Casey O'Brien
steps in up the near wall, and she's able to
find Finley McCarthy cross eye stem of Venusio, the freshman.
Working together, Venusio to the bottom of the circle, fires
a backhanded shot hits the side of the cage, but
(01:16:03):
she gathers her own rebound beneath the level of the net.
Turns it around. It's Kirsten Sims. McCarthy turns the other way.
Badger's beneath the net. It's O'Brien. She's pushed up against
the wall, but she fights through the check. Sims sends
it to the point for Avia Murphy back towards O'Brien.
O'Brien able to lay a stick on, keeps that one
(01:16:23):
in the zone. McCarthy opposite side, feet to O'Brien, the
bits off the pad. O'Brien with a figure skater move
almost to put that one through her own legs off
the back of her blade. What a shot from Casey O'Brien,
but it's stopped by Hanson. Thirteen seconds to go in
this first period, or even strength after the power play
goal from Minnesota State shot from the point Badgers deflect
(01:16:43):
no good jungles underneath back into the slot with four
seconds to go, sends to the far wall. Wesnevitch got
one last chance through the crease, and that is how
the second period will end. Boy, these are two very
good teams. The Badgers again, maybe have a little bit
of the edge in offense, but you can't sleep on
either one of these clubs. Both get a goal. It's
(01:17:03):
two to one Wisconsin after two.
Speaker 2 (01:17:05):
Yeah, I mean it couldn't get any tighter. You really
see that you have to earn everything you get with
the number of shots that have been taken by each
team respectively, and the fact that there's only you know,
two goals to one and good goaltending on both ends.
Speaker 1 (01:17:22):
The scores in that one came from Wisconsin with five
twenty one to go, an even strength goal from Kirsten Sims.
We see the replay there, beautiful passing from Laila Edwards
to Casey O'Brien to find Sims on the back door,
and then the power play tally here. A shot from
the center point forces McNaughton to move and then go
down into the splits and they put it in. Madison
Machuga gets the power play goal with seventeen forty one
to go. It's two to one Wisconsin, But we have
(01:17:44):
twenty exciting minutes left to go in this game. Stay
tuned to the intermission show you listening to AM ten
seventy the game. Welcome back everyone, Mark green Hollands Zac
seel off with you on the second intermission show the
Badgers lead two to one on top of Minnesota State.
Both teams get a goal in the second period, and
coach we talked a little bit about it during the break.
The shots on goal very low for a Badger game.
(01:18:05):
We've seen the Badgers just rifle them in, you know,
shot after shot in a lot of these games, they've
only had thirteen shots on goal in this game, Minnesota
State has had the same number. And you've got to
give a ton of credit to the defense of the Mavericks.
Speaker 2 (01:18:17):
Yeah. I think what you got here is you got
two teams that are full of what they call, you know,
two hundred foot players. Everybody's willing to defend in every zone.
You know, it doesn't matter if it's a neutral zone
or even the offensive zone. You forwards or back checking
in the defensive zone, just a lot of every part
of the rink. You're going to get contested if the
(01:18:38):
puck's on your stick.
Speaker 1 (01:18:39):
One thing I wanted to ask you about with some specifictity,
we didn't have a chance at the end of the
first period, but in that first period there was a
decent stretch where McNaughton had lost her stick and had
to play without one, and she faced off a couple
of shots is that something you work on in practice?
You talk about is there a strategy to adopt when
you lose the stick?
Speaker 2 (01:18:57):
I got a level with you that was an ad
lib there. We haven't really I don't do many drills
without the stick, per you know, per se. I mean,
I've done that on occasion, but it's rare, if at all.
Speaker 1 (01:19:09):
You know, she looked awfully sharp back there, and she
has looked sharp all game. The one that got by her,
she was she had to commit. She either had to
go splits to cover the post, or she had to
stay up and try and get the high angle, which
would have left the post open. She went for the posts.
They were able to put it up over. She's made
some very good stops. Is there anything you're seeing from
her or especially the defense in front of her, that
you'd like them to change up a little bit in
(01:19:31):
the third period.
Speaker 2 (01:19:33):
Other than just you know, I hoped her communicating out there.
I can't hear it from this location obviously, but you know,
like if she's if somebody's in your way, let them know,
you know, give me a look, you know, know where
you're going with the puck on the rims and that
kind of thing. Just don't want to miss cue in
your own end.
Speaker 1 (01:19:50):
The Badgers have played the Mavericks since nineteen ninety nine,
when NCAA women's hockey got going. They have met one
hundred and eleven times. The Badgers have won all but
three of those games. They are one oh five, three
and three against Minnesota State all time. And you're watching
a Minnesota State team that I think, if they're not
the equal of the Badgers, they are certainly within the
(01:20:12):
same realm. This is a team that could be winning
this game. This is such a close contest and it's
really fun to see them playing up to that level
and to see a quality game on the ice. Just
the same. If you're Minnesota State, what do you want?
What would you be telling them to do to try
and break through. They've had a couple of chances, but
I think the offensive punch has been more towards the
(01:20:34):
favor of Wisconsin. What does Minnesota State need to do
to get.
Speaker 2 (01:20:37):
A little bit of their own I would just tell them,
don't be afraid to shoot the puck. Every shot on
net's a good play, but hit the net. You know
if you miss, it's a breakout for the opposing team
coming the other way, So just get it on net,
get bodies and pucks to the net.
Speaker 1 (01:20:50):
One other WHA game is ongoing as we speak, just
beginning their own third period our Minnesota Duluth and Saint
Cloud State. Saint Cloud State, number eight in the country,
is up on number four in the country. Duluth won
to nothing as they have just started the third period there.
Minnesota and Saint Thomas will get started at seven pm
later on today, and then just before we get going,
Joe Pavelski, the Polish prince you may know, a long
(01:21:13):
career with the San Jose Sharks and also a wonderful
career with UW, will be honored by UW tomorrow. The
Badgers are playing Michigan State the Badgermen both today and tomorrow,
and Pavelski will be honored before tomorrow's game. We're underway
in the third period. The Badgers do win the face
off they control back in their own zone. A loose
puck is nearly lost there, but Vivian Jungle is able
to get it. She's taken down to the ice though,
(01:21:33):
and it's regathered by Minnesota State. They send up to
the point shot does not get through the skates of
Laila Edwards quick shot in front of Ava McNaughton in
the blue paint, and she finally gets the whistle, no goal.
She was sprawled sitting on her butt, had the legs
split to cover that net, and an early aggressive push
from the Mavericks.
Speaker 2 (01:21:51):
Yeah, they got on it early here and it's loose
there and evidently the official didn't see that it was
still loose. Whistle.
Speaker 1 (01:22:00):
As a result, Badgers potentially get one there on the
quick whistle face off in the Badger zone is controlled
by Minnesota State. Put it back beneath the net, where
it's taken by Otremba. She retreats it back behind the
net again from a sugar who had the one goal
in this game. A boy and losing her edge is
Kelly Gorbtenko. She goes into the wall hard and that
puck is picked up and shot and saved. Second shot
(01:22:22):
backhand is saved by McNaughton. Oh my goodness, what a stop.
It's still loose and the puck is behind the net.
McNaughton loses her stick again. The stick is in her crease.
She'll be able to pick it up. She does. I
cannot believe she stopped that and that the live puck
was not put in the net by Minnesota State. Incredible
saved by McNaughton. The Badger's dodge an enormous pullet there
(01:22:42):
nineteen minutes even to play. In the third and final period,
it's two to one in favor of Wisconsin, but Minnesota
State on offense again. Venusio hassles the puck carrier into
the corner, forces him to rim it all the way
to the near side, loose pock back to the near
corner of the Badger zone. Two to one Wisconsin with
eighteen forty five to go, Minnesota State controls. Nelson puts
it behind the net. Badger's able to grab it there,
(01:23:03):
but the fight continues buck loose behind the cage. Now
it's Cassie Hall that gathers. She'll turn things around find
Lady Potter on the near side of the Badger' zone.
Potter immediately hassled by the fore check from Minnesota State.
She's able to find a nice pass good ship there
by Casey O'Brien on the left wing side. O'Brien's got
help with her takes a shot off the pad and
a nice save from Hanson O'Brien a quick release. Venusio
(01:23:26):
holds his own O'Brien cross ice top of the circle
for Carolyn. Harvey retreats back to the center point, cycles
it around Venusio. Venusio a shot from the center point
right into the belly of Hanson, who freezes it down
with eighteen oh six to go.
Speaker 2 (01:23:40):
Just good to see we've got it in the offensive end.
There there was a stretch we were fighting in our
own end, a little bit incredible attack. Gasdik had the
first shot and what a backhanded attempt from Tuttle. I
think it was the blade of the skate from McNaughton
that saved that one. Just the absolute edge ye, incredible
effort by the sophomore goaltender of Wisconsin. Six to play
in the third and final period, Badger's up two to one.
(01:24:02):
Face off is one in the zone by the Badger's
shot from Venusio is padded away by Hanson, another stop
for her. Fifteen shots on goal for both of these teams,
now a pair for each in this third and final period.
Harvey picks up the puck behind the Badger net as
it hits slid all the way down. She finds Leila
Edwards on a stretch pass Edward's around traffic. She's into
the high slot and she is whistled. I believe for
(01:24:24):
off sides. Oh boy, she looks.
Speaker 1 (01:24:26):
A little frustrated there. She had a path to the net,
but off sides is the call. We'll get a face
off with seventeen forty five to play.
Speaker 2 (01:24:32):
Yeah, I was hoping, you know, Layla'd get a nice
shot on net there from the high slot, but not
to be.
Speaker 1 (01:24:39):
Face off will come just outside of the Mavericks zone.
Badgers win it. Venusio right at center ice, back to Harvey,
who circles the other way onto the near side. Venusio
again in front of the player benches. Sims touches it up,
no icing Badger's chase behind the net. Mavericks turned to
the near side, off the wall, comes to Venusio center point.
(01:25:01):
Harvey trades places shot from the center point, bangs off
a number of skaters, and comes to the near wall,
where the Mavericks grab it. Coming up that near side
is Paddington. Her pass intercepted by Venusio and backhanded back
down in a whistle. So I believe that came out
of play was seventeen fifteen to go.
Speaker 2 (01:25:16):
Yeah, yeah, pretty even here the first you know, three
minutes almost of the this period.
Speaker 1 (01:25:24):
Minnesota State had a good push early on. Ava McNaughton
turns them away, but now the face off will be
in the badger's zone. Picard against Otremba o Trembo wins
it to the near wall, but the Badger's immediately on
top of it. Lady Potter in her own zone. Badgers
work up the far side into center ice. Here Sarahwaznevitch
got a head of steam and Picard with her Waznevitch
(01:25:45):
toward the shot a glove or excuse me, a stick
save from Hanson. Able to get that stick down and
block the five hole on the Wasnovitch shot Picard at
the center point, stripped of the puck that time by
Madison with Sugar, the alternate captain for the Mavericks, taps
it into the badger zone. Vivian Jungles, though, takes it
away and Picard regathers nice passed from Picard to find
(01:26:06):
n right in neutral ice. She leaves that one off
trying to find Picard.
Speaker 2 (01:26:11):
The blind drop pass is not my favorite, and.
Speaker 1 (01:26:13):
It was taken away by Minnesota State shot and a
pad save and McNaughton will stop it down. Claire Veckich,
the senior out of Coleraine, Minnesota, put a shot on
another nice pad save from Ava McNaughton. See Vekich coming
into the slot here, great pads save that time in
a nice glove cover charging in with Sidney lang Seth
crashing the net and McNaughton does not allow her a
(01:26:35):
second chance. Cassie Hall wins the draw on the Badger
zone for Wisconsin. Venusio sends it up the far side
Harvey back to Hall, but it's off her skate. She
can't get it cleanly. Now, a shot from the faceoff
dot feed to the center is deflected away Ava Murphy
in the way of that one. Gorbtenko touches it up
as it goes past. This one may come down for icing.
The hand is up and that's the call. You got
(01:26:55):
it sixteen twelve to go in the third and final period,
Badger's hanging on a two to one lead out in
man Cato against the Minnesota State Mavericks. The Badger's number
one in the NCAAM the WCHA Minnesota State six seven
to one on the season, but you can tell from
their play of that record will not tell you the
story of this team, right.
Speaker 2 (01:27:14):
Every possession is critical, isn't it Zact?
Speaker 1 (01:27:16):
It sure is, and with only a one goal advantage,
the next one could be dispositive. Sixteen oh six to go,
the face off is controlled by Minnesota State. Shot in
a save from McNaughton, and that one coming from the
point at Lauren Goldsworthy. Goldsworthy has it again, hustles it
to the opposite point. That shot does not make it through.
McNaught able to stick it away as it lied near
the crease. Fifteen fifty to play again, a clot of
(01:27:37):
five players on the wall. Cassie Hall digs it out,
comes back towards Murphy, still in the Badger zone. Murphy
finds Hall. She tries to send it around, but it's
intercepted by Minnesota State. Now Murphy does put it to
the near wall. Goldsworthy hassled there, sends it up to
van Batavia. Cameron Van Batavia is pushed against the wall
(01:27:59):
and Cassie Hall the better of it skates away on
the right wing edge ahead for Kelly Gorbtenko hand up
for icing and that is the call Gorbatenko was hustling
as hard as she could, could not get there in time,
and the puck will come back to the Badger zone
for another face off with fifteen twenty two to go
in the third and final period.
Speaker 2 (01:28:15):
Yeah, Gorbatenko looked frustrated. She wanted to have that puck
so badly and is not quite enough.
Speaker 1 (01:28:22):
Cassie Hall in the dot and now I believe we
will get a little bit of a time out here,
So we're going to take a time out ourselves thirty
seconds here on Am ten seventy the game for Wisconsin
Badgers women hockey. Welcome back everybody. It was a time
out by Wisconsin head coach Mark Johnson wanting to break
the momentum of Minnesota state. They came out strong at
the start of this period and they've been pushing ever since.
So the Badgers take their time out, and as they
(01:28:44):
come back out, they do lead two to one here
in the third period with fifteen twenty two to play.
Speaker 2 (01:28:49):
Yeah, I think he wants to make sure everybody does
things the right way. It doesn't make bad decisions, don't
turn the puck over. You know, we saw that one
blind backhand pass it up in a shot on goal
for Minnesota man Keto don't want that.
Speaker 1 (01:29:04):
Badgers love the face off on the far side of
their own zone. O'Brien versus O Tremba. O'Brien does win
it back. Badger's accelerate it high off the glass and
immediately out of play on the Badger bench side. Take
another face off.
Speaker 2 (01:29:19):
Yeah, we'll see. Here is fifteen minutes, eighteen seconds to goal.
A lot of game left and anything could happen here.
Speaker 1 (01:29:25):
Only a one goal differential. Badgers do win the neutralized
face off. It's Carolyn Harvey that controls cross Ta Vivian
jungles the deep partners move it forward. Kirsten Sims touches
up to dodge the icing, but come into the near
wall of the Minnesota State zone. Lela Edwards puts pressure
on in the corner along with Casey O'Brien. O'Brien has
that one. Now finds Edward's on the near wall. Feed
(01:29:46):
to Sims at the face off dots. She can't get
the shot to go. Minnesota State takes it to the
point and clears it out. It's Genessa Gazdik finds my sugar,
My sugar face off dot shot is why to the
cage doesn't make it and Harvey has it. On the
near side. Leila Edwards oh Man ow Brian takes a
shoulder for her troubles there right in center ice. Wanted
(01:30:06):
a call but nothing doing. Edwards, though able to find
O'Brien again. She comes in right wing side of Minnesota
State zone feed towards Sims out of her reach. Second
chance for jungles, but the bouncing puck gets over her
stick sims behind the net, taken away that time by
Bella Shipley. The freshman of Minnesota State turns at the
opposite side near wall for Jamie Nelson ahead to Whitley Tuttle.
The junior finds a pass at the blue line, but
(01:30:29):
immediately picked up by Landy Potter. She controls for the
Badgers in their own zone. Ava Murphy on the near
side sends to center ice and streaking is Sarahwaznevitch our
hashmark shot in a pad save from Hanson, the goaltender
getting her legs together from Minnesota State fourteen minutes even
to play two to one. As Lady Potter intercepts things
in center ice towards Watsnevitch, the loose puck on the
Badger blue line is picked up by the Mavericks. Another
(01:30:52):
pass blocked down, that time by Claire Enwright. Here comes
Wasnevitch striding again, putting some pressure on Juliana Gasdik and
ride a shot just over the glove of Hansen, up
and out of play. Waznevitch. That intensity, that pressure generates
a scoring chance.
Speaker 2 (01:31:08):
There.
Speaker 1 (01:31:08):
En Right takes the shot and it's up out of play.
Speaker 2 (01:31:10):
Yeah, she just kept pursuing that puck and that's what
allowed Enright to get a shot on net.
Speaker 1 (01:31:15):
Thirteen forty two to go in the third and final
period two to one. The advantage for Wisconsin a power
play goal in the first period from Carolyn Harvey and
even strength goal from Kirsten Simms in the second period
are the scores for the Badgers. Potter off the face
off at center point drops down for Eden cross ice
right into the center. Cassie Hall backhand is just wide,
(01:31:36):
just missed the cage. Hall had a decent look on
the backhand, but can't get the shot on net. Striding
down as the puck enters the Badger zone, dropping the
slatter shot in the save Jamie Nelson on the pass
from Madison with Sugar Musuga had the goal for Mavericks
earlier in the second period thirteen seventeen in the third period,
now here comes Cassie Hall on a three on two
haul to the outside on the near wall, rims it
(01:31:59):
opposite way, finds Gorbtenko. Goorbitenka, the over skates in Minnesota
takes it out into neutral ice, going to the I
sar the Michigan or excuse me, the Minnesota State Mavericks,
and I believe we may have a penalty against Gorbtenko.
We do. She's gonna get whistled for holding and the
Badgers face another dangerous power play from Minnesota State.
Speaker 2 (01:32:19):
That's not what we wanted here, so we'll have to
make sure we kill this one off.
Speaker 1 (01:32:24):
Time of the penalty six fifty eight in the third period,
and holding is the call against Kelly Gorbitenko. You like
to have her out on the penalty kill as well,
so tough to have her in the box, but that's
where she's headed. A two minute power play for Minnesota
State with thirteen oh two to play in the game
two to one, the lead for Wisconsin. Shots on goal
eighteen apiece for these two teams five apiece. In this
(01:32:46):
third period, Badgers do win the faceoff. They control Casey
O'Brien up towards her own blue line. She finds Carolyn
Harvey on a two on two shorthanded. Harvey to the
high slot, drops for eating at the faceoff dot. Nice
job to obstruct her by Zawaski yep, and allow her
to get a shot, but a nice short handed chance
for the Badgers. Minute forty to go on the power
play as coming through Neutrals's Madison with sugar outer edge,
(01:33:07):
drop in shot from Trumba, no good up towards the
center point and out Taylor O Tremba had a look there, ye,
but McNaughton was able to fight it off. Minute twenty
seven on the power play. Twelve twenty seven in the
period two to one Wisconsin. Here in the third in
man Cato again, the Mavericks enter the zone, puck to
the far wall. Finley McCarthy puts some pressure on Harvey,
(01:33:29):
tries a clearing attempt and she does clear it out.
Speaker 2 (01:33:32):
I like it, just yeah, send it the other way.
Speaker 1 (01:33:35):
Man wind in a slap and here's Sarah. Was Nevitch
all over the fore check was Nevitch the one attacker
on there and she gets a turn and fires it
back down again. Yeah, Sarah was Nevitch. I think is
built to be a penalty killer. Her style of game
very effective. And speaking of here's Finley McCarthy who gives
a shove after she takes one. She's not going to
start it, but she will finish it. Forty five seconds
(01:33:57):
to go on the power play, as Minnesota State enters
the zone, dropped to the near side, puck stripped away
briefly but regathered by the Mavericks put it behind the
Badger net. Eleven forty to play in the period. Thirty
eight seconds on the power play, Badgers get another clear
clear end Right sends it out of the zone and
follows up on the fore check. Juliana Gasdik trying to
turn things around. Badger's putting pressure on but Card and
(01:34:18):
en Right now retreat back into neutral ice twenty two
seconds left on the penalty against Kelly Gorbatanco for holding.
Eleven twenty to go in the period, Here come the
Badgers the other way. Once again. It's end Right and
she'll just rim that one around to try and kill
this one off on the near side for Potter Now
the Mavericks, which is eight seconds left on the man advantage.
(01:34:39):
Coming through neutral ice, it's Nelson Nelson to the top
of the circle, stick handle swings over the top and
misses the puck. That's the end of the penalty. Both
teams are full strength chipped along. Here's Corbtenko feed toward
the center for Sims, high slot. Now O'Brien down low,
backhand to five hole. Can't get it to go. Hansen
closes up just in time. The Badger's nearly converted the
(01:34:59):
power play into a goal of their own. Here comes
Casey O'Brien again on the right wing side, feeds to Sims.
She works down into the corner back towards O'Brien, but
picked off by Minnesota State. Loose puck on the near wall.
Now O'Brien hassling along with Edwards Edwards at the face
off doot. She works in beckhand shot is swatted away
at the last second by the defense of Minnesota State,
(01:35:20):
but Sims controls at the point and works it back
down to Leela Edwards in the far corner. Edwards to
Sims hash marks. Sims shut off the top of the
pad and hits the glass Hanson doing some incredible work
for the Mavericks in net. Harvey working her way down,
feeds into O'Brien in the slot. O'Brien taken to the ground.
Beckhan shot is no good, lift it up and they
can't quite send it to the net. Sims had a
(01:35:42):
chance but wasn't able to get past the defensive Minnesota State.
Now Sims to the bottom for O'Brien to distribute feedback
towards Sims. It bounces high and off her helmet. She
chases it to the far wall. She's tripped hard as
she goes to the ice. The Badgers want to call.
Sims wants a call. Yeah, gone one is not coming.
The Badger's still on offense here with nine to forty
five to go in this third period. Finally into neutral ice, Harvey,
(01:36:05):
though immediately wants to attack once more. At the blue line,
she drops the puck in on the near wall. It's
picked up that time by Lawren Zawaski. She goes cross
ice in Minnesota State, finally able to clear it out again,
puck lying in center ice where the Mavericks will have
it work through a couple of skaters, but now Lacy
Eden's got it. She fights through a defender and she's
got Cassie Hall with her. Eden looking for Cassie Hall
(01:36:26):
instead some fancy footwork Finley McCarthy in the slot. They
can't get the puck. Tour Hall picks it up beneath
the net. Hall working around. She's got an open look
as she comes to the top of the near circle.
Now sends it up to the point for Lady Potter.
Potter center point shoulders away a four checker and keeps
things on offense. Nine oh four to play in the
third and final period, two to one Wisconsin and the
Badgers are on the attack.
Speaker 2 (01:36:47):
You can feel the intensity.
Speaker 1 (01:36:49):
You sure can a shot in us save from the point.
A slapper all the way from the point does not
make it past Haley Hanson. Another good stop from the
Mavericks goaltender. Eight forty eight to go. The Mavericks do
rocket it into Badger territory. It'll be picked up by
Lacy eating on her own near wall. Good cross ice
stretch past for Lady Potter Potter through a couple of skaters,
but now this one is held by Minnesota State. Here
(01:37:13):
we go, Vivian Jungles picking it up in the Badger territory.
And now we do get a stoppage and I'm wondering
if this is potentially a penalty. It is on Finley
McCarthy for cross checking. Finley McCarthy is whistled for a
cross check at eleven twenty eight in the third period.
The Badger's freshman, an aggressive player, gets a little bit
too aggressive on that play, and unfortunately the Badgers will
(01:37:35):
have to go back on the penalty kill for the
second time in this period. And what was the call
on McCarthy cross checking is is the infraction?
Speaker 2 (01:37:43):
Wasn't sure what the official had there.
Speaker 1 (01:37:45):
Boy, the Badgers had just chance after chance there. They
were doing everything they could. They're looking sharp, and I
believe it's possible that we lost our feed here. So
give me just one moment the Badgers are on the
power play, or excuse me, on the penalty kill, and
we'll be back for you in just a second. Let's
take thirty seconds here on Am ten seventy the game.
(01:38:06):
Welcome back everyone. The penalty goes against Finley McCarthy two
minutes for cross checking at eleven twenty eight in the
third and final period. So a second power play of
this third period four Minnesota State. It's two to one Badgers.
The number one Badgers though, facing a very tough challenge
from Minnesota State. And you know, man Cato is thinking,
this is our opportunity here.
Speaker 2 (01:38:25):
Is that Potter or McCarthy they have in the box?
Speaker 1 (01:38:28):
It was McCarthy, I'm pretty sure, but let's make doubly
sure it is. No, you're right, it was lady Potter.
They had it initially as McCarthy, but Lady Potter twenty two,
not number two. I bet that's where the confusion came
from the score. So lady Potter, because you and I
had watched the replay and we said, boy, that didn't
look like a cross check, and that was why let's
(01:38:48):
see the replay here. So McCarthy shoves up against the
wall so that I could see why they meant that
might draw a penalty. But well, and then they do.
Speaker 2 (01:38:57):
They do look like it Now they're still shorting it out.
Speaker 1 (01:38:59):
Yeah, we're still a little confused on who's supposed to
be in the box.
Speaker 2 (01:39:03):
And I think they're going to probably snag McCarthy and
have her go over there. I don't know if she's
think on the bench with the team.
Speaker 1 (01:39:08):
Yep, but you're right that Landy Potter is the one
they currently have in the box.
Speaker 2 (01:39:11):
That's weird.
Speaker 1 (01:39:12):
Well, I think it's It's possible either that we didn't
see the replay of the actual infraction or that the
rest just plane made a mistake there. Either way, it
is Potter in the box. The Badger's on the pedalley kill,
but they win the initial draw and here comes Lacy Eden.
Eden's got ahead of steam and she's got one skater
to beat. Eden from the high slot, takes a shot
and it's padded away by Hanson, a short handed charge
(01:39:33):
from the Badger's alternate captain, and that takes fifteen seconds
off the power play. Eight fourteen to go in the period,
Minnesota State up through neutral ice, Nelson into the center
and it's poked away once again, this time by O'Brien.
O'Brien to the ground. Yeah, good work. Her stick work
is always so good on defense. She finds just the
right way to attack the puck angles and leverage us
(01:39:55):
as well. Minute twenty five on the power play. Seven
to fifty five to go in the period, two to one,
the advantage for Wisconsin, but Minnesota State's on the power
play and they're working behind. The Badgernette comes in front,
but nobody was there to take a shot. Minnesota State
controls though it's Tuttle bottom of the circle. Tuttle working
her way around, didn't want the wrap round. Instead sends
it back behind the net, this time for Nelson. The
(01:40:16):
alternate captain to the far wall of Badger territory is
the rough leaps over the puck. Nelson's circling around. Nice
job by O'Brien to get that one away, and now
here's wats Nevitch in a foot race. She's on a breakaways.
Nevitch bottom of the circle, shut up the pad, ran
out of room. Couldn't get that one to go over
the pad of Hanson, who just did make the save.
Speaker 2 (01:40:35):
I wish she could have lifted it up at that
left extended pad while Hanson did the splits was able
to keep it out of the net.
Speaker 1 (01:40:41):
Haley Hanson keeps it a two to one game, nearly
a short handed goal for Wassnevitch thirty five seconds on
the power play, seven oh five to go in the period,
two to one, the advantage for Wisconsin as Minnesota State
puts it behind the Badgernette Emma Venusio hard on that
far wall held by Minnesota State. They're passed to the
point though is passed its intended target and they have
to retreat to the neutral zone. At the blue line.
(01:41:03):
O Tremba trying to get it in. She gets jammed though,
and the puck comes all the way back to the
Mavericks territory, where it's stopped up by Hanson behind her net.
Badgers putting some four checking pressure on it's Picard and Enright.
En Right's going to gather this loop puck and she'll
battle it back down three seconds to go on the
power play. Another successful kill for the Badgers as they
are now full strength with six twenty nine to play
(01:41:24):
in the game, still leading two to one. Out Here
in Mankato against Minnesota State, Juliana Gasdik feed into the
center played by the skate, then a backhanded shot is
deflected away by the defense of Wisconsin. Puck behind the
net picked up by Jungles on the far wall. Jungles
pokes it ahead to en Right. She finds a two
on one. Here is Casey O'Brien with Sims. It's a
(01:41:45):
three on one along with Harvey Sims O'Brien shutting the gloves, say.
Speaker 2 (01:41:49):
My goodness, I don't know how she kept that out
of the net.
Speaker 1 (01:41:51):
Incredible triangle passing from the Badgers and Hanson makes a
killer stop to keep it two to one. Oh Man,
Minnesota state in the neutral zone, wanting to backhand this
one forward to Alexis Paddington. Paddington looks gassed out there.
It comes to McNaughton, who will freeze it down. Paddington
sure wants a change and she looks frustrated.
Speaker 2 (01:42:09):
Man, I thought O'Brien was gonna bury that one.
Speaker 1 (01:42:11):
Boy.
Speaker 2 (01:42:12):
Took an incredible save by Hanson to keep it out
of the net. It was just some tic tac toll
passing there.
Speaker 1 (01:42:18):
I hope we see a replay here at O'Brien ban
to Harvey Sims on the right, O'Brien on the left,
and what a push and stop.
Speaker 2 (01:42:25):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:42:26):
Give all the credit in the world to Haley Hanson,
because that should be a goal nine times out of ten,
five point forty five to go. As the Badgers win
the face off in their own zone behind the net,
it's Lady Potter who was called for the penalty earlier,
though we believe Finley McCarthy was actually the guilty party,
and she finds Leila Edwards on the stretch pass. Here's
O'Brien back to Sims. Sims a shot and us save.
Sims had to kind of double clutch that one just
(01:42:47):
a bit, and it allowed Hanson to get into position
just in time.
Speaker 2 (01:42:51):
Boy, stellar goaltending on both ends. I tell you want
to if you're a fan of goaltending, you're watching an
ideal game today.
Speaker 1 (01:43:00):
Boy, the forward lines here, the defensive players, everyone doing
a job on offense, and the goaltenders doing their job
as well.
Speaker 2 (01:43:06):
Yeah, that's all the game's supposed to be played.
Speaker 1 (01:43:08):
Twenty three shots on goal for the Badgers, twenty two
from Minnesota State. Wisconsin leads two to one with five
thirty two to play in the third and final period,
Minnesota State wins the face off in their own zone
behind the net. Simso there she puts it up along
the Board's a nice job to get it all the
way to the point Potter near side towards Sims. It's
intercepted in the slot. Nice read that time by Langs
At the captain. Sidney Langsteth has three Badgers on her
(01:43:31):
as she heads to Wisconsin territory. Lady Potter gets the
puck behind her own net. Potter tries to reverse direction
Badger's send it up the wall for Leila Edwards. She
accelerates it off the scorer's table window and into wiscon
excuse me, into Minnesota State territory. Immediately, the Mavericks have
it back in neutral ice. The fight continues there. Vekich
(01:43:52):
sends it down beneath the Badger net where McNaughton stops
it up for Potter. With four fifty to play in
the third, still two to one Wisconsin. Very tight game
with lots of offense, lots of defense, and absolutely stellar goaltending.
Tuttle on the right side of the Badger zone all
the way into the corner, sends it up high. She
finds Goldsworthy at the center point. Goldsworthy kind of a
(01:44:12):
shot passed into the corner, a pass through the slot
and it comes right to Finley McCarthy. No shot coming
from Minnesota State. McCarthy gets mixed up with another player
there and it's o Tremba on the left wing. Drop
to the shot in a save, drop to the top
of the circle. What a save on the shot from
Madison Machuga. She has the one and only goal from
Minnesota State in this game. Another shot comes in from
down low and a high stick. Oh my goodness, Cassie
(01:44:35):
Hall took one up very high. She hit the ice
hard trying to get back into this one. What a
kick from Cassie Hall. She didn't have a stick, You
didn't have a stick and she socker kicks it all
the way down the ice. Cassie Haul, you beast, what
a play. Three point fifty seven to play. After Haul
was badly high sticked eaten through the center, nobody can
get a shot on. We're in the Minnesota state zone.
As the Badger's attack two to one Wisconsin. Here near
(01:44:59):
the end of the game, just three and a half
minutes left to play. Badgers swat it back down low again.
Mary and Picard's going to get it there for Wisconsin.
Loose puck, though, picked up by Alexis Paddington in her
own territory up along the far wall, trying to get
it through. She's able to send it along, but the
Badger's immediately intercept and turn it around to neutral ice.
Here comes Picard with wasnevitchen En right pushed in the
(01:45:19):
center shot is wide of the cage, picked up that
time by gas Dick Juliana.
Speaker 2 (01:45:24):
He's got a delayed penalty here on somebody.
Speaker 1 (01:45:27):
Delayed penalty will be coming against. I believe that's Alexis Paddington.
She looked exasperated as it was. The call. The Alexis
Paddington is called two minutes for tripping, and now the
Badgers have a golden opportunity to assault this game away
with just three nineteen to play. They will have a
man advantage for two minutes after the tripping call against
Alexis Paddington.
Speaker 2 (01:45:46):
Boy, I tell you that it'd be nice to capitalize
on this right now, wouldn't it.
Speaker 1 (01:45:50):
This would be the perfect time you could close things
out in a very tight game against a very good opponent. Yeah,
a WCHA opponent at that three precious WCCHA points on
the line here, three nineteen to go in the game,
Badger's on a two minute power play. O'Brien wins the
draw for Wisconsin and it comes across to Kirston Sims
center point for the Badgers. It's Harvey Sims top of
(01:46:12):
the circle. O'Brien face off dot shot in a save
steered away by Harvey that one actually rims all the
way out. It may have missed the net. In that case,
it did rim all the way out. Edits O'Brien and
center ice accelerating as she comes in on the left
wing side a past one defender puts it off the
boards and follows it up, coming up the near wall
(01:46:33):
for Leila Edwards. Edwards delivers a shot as she gets
after the puck, now beneath the net for O'Brien back
to Edwards outer Hashmark's near side, Sims to Harvey top
of the opposite circle. Now Sims on the near side
down Low trades with O'Brien. Sims beneath the net. Two
thirty three to play in the game, minute thirteen on
the power play. Badgers have one shot so far on
(01:46:54):
this power play opportunity. Sims top of the circle, face
off dot near side, shutting a save. Harvey gets together,
excuse me, Hanson gets together on that one. Harvey center
point for Wisconsin Edwards left side face off dot cross
to Sims, doesn't get through traffic. O'Brien now Sims again
near point two eleven to go in the game. Fifty
seconds on the power play, Harvey center point, O'Brien one
(01:47:18):
time pass goes well wide, Harvey will gather it at
the far point for Wisconsin sims Hi slot one time
shot from Leila Edwards from a low angle, goes wide
and rims all the way out.
Speaker 2 (01:47:30):
I wanted to see a shot off her stick. I
didn't want it to go wide, but uh, pretty good
percentage if she gets a one timer like that and
hits the net.
Speaker 1 (01:47:37):
Twenty seven seconds on the power play minute forty four
in the game, Badger's up two to one here in
this third and final period in man Cato, O'Brien taps
that one in Badgers get a new line here Waznevitch
and end right beneath the net. Jungles can't block the
shot at the point and it comes back into Badger
territory as Landy Potter slides after it pressure coming from
(01:47:59):
Cameron Van but tabs Ifabatavia takes it away in the corner,
sends it up to the point for Minnesota State, but
nobody there and it'll come to neutral ice Maverick's control
both team's full strength as a penalty expires. A successful
penalty kill for Minnesota State minute tend to go in
the game. Man will man Cato try and pull the
goalie here if they can get through neutral ice, we
won't find out because the Badger's control. It's Maryann Picard.
(01:48:21):
Minute even to play. Picard a high saucer pass Edwards
gloves it down, now puts it for Eden. Behind the net.
Eden controlling for Wisconsin with fifty three seconds to go,
Badger's on the attack at the point. Briefly held by
the Badgers, but now Minnesota State able to get it
out coming ahead as Nelson Nelson into the zone, feed
toward the slot, broken up by Lady Potter doesn't let
(01:48:43):
it get through for a shot. Thirty eight seconds to go.
Six attacker is on the net is empty for Minnesota State.
Two won the lead for Wisconsin with thirty seconds even
to play as the puck is jammed up behind a
skate on the far wall leaks to the near side.
Badgers break up a path. Leila Edwards a nice job
to intervene with her stick on that one. Edward's trying
to drag it out. Minnesota State won't let it go now.
(01:49:05):
The loose puck does come down towards the empty net,
gathered up with fourteen seconds to go, Bio tremba pass
into center ice. It's tipped. McNaughton will stop it up
behind her own net. Seven seconds to go, Harvey has
it for Wisconsin. Lost one toward the net. Harvey shot
and it's just wide. Icing is called. The clock on
our TV has expired. I'm not sure if it has
(01:49:28):
for the game.
Speaker 2 (01:49:28):
Yeah, the scoreboard says it's.
Speaker 1 (01:49:30):
Scoreboard says zero. But the referee did blow his whistle
before that time.
Speaker 2 (01:49:34):
He may tack some time on and have a face off,
but it does. Don't like it.
Speaker 1 (01:49:38):
Nope, that is the end. Carolyn Harvey just misses. At
the end of the game, time expires before the puck
can slide across the line, and the Badgers hang on
and defeat the Mavericks. A heck of a game, perhaps
the best game the Badgers have seen, the best opponent
performance so far, but they get the victory two to one.
(01:49:59):
Wiscy and wins.
Speaker 2 (01:50:01):
I don't think I've taken a breath for the last
seven minutes.
Speaker 1 (01:50:04):
I am feeling it in my throat here. This is
such a game. We're seeing some killer replays here. The
Badgers score from Sims, the score from Machuga, on the
power play. That was the lone Minnesota State goal. It
too was a nice one.
Speaker 2 (01:50:17):
Big rebound.
Speaker 1 (01:50:18):
Yeah, but it is two to one Wisconsin. At the
end of regulation, the Badgers get a huge win. They
will improve to eighteen one to zero on the season.
Let's tork a short break. We will be back with
the postgame show. You're listening to Wisconsin Badger Women's hockey
on AM ten seventy the game. Welcome back everyone. If
you're just joining us, you missed a barn burner. Two
to one the final score. Wisconsin defeats Minnesota State in
(01:50:41):
man Cato. They improved to eighteen and one on the season.
Man Cato falls to six eight and one, But not
for lack of effort. Coach, you and I talked just
briefly at the at the intermission. What an exciting game
that was. Even the Ohio State games, I don't think
compared to that. That was incredible.
Speaker 2 (01:50:58):
Yeah, that was more than anybody could ask for. I don't,
like I said, I don't think I took up breath.
The last seven or eight minutes went right down to
the buzzard. But the whole game was that way. You know,
you look at the shots twenty three to twenty four
with the edge going to Mancato State. There, I believe
you're right. Two to one final and a lot of
high percentage shots by both teams, so great goaltending delivered
(01:51:20):
by both netminders in each end, I tell you, killing
off penalties, power plays, so you got a little bit
of everything. We saw a great effort by everybody on
the ice both teams. That was exciting as could be.
And tomorrow is going to be another wonderful contest. I
can see it coming.
Speaker 1 (01:51:34):
Absolutely. Three goals in the game, one for Wisconsin in
the first, one for Wisconsin and one for Minnesota State
in the second. We've got those highlights for you. Let's
go to those now. Obrien on the near side changes
with Sims down to the bottom of the near circle.
Now beneath the net, O'Brien looks for a pass into
the center st this goal Carolyn Harvey from Kirsten Simms.
The Badgers a power play goal just two tozh five
(01:51:56):
into the first period. It's won nothing Wisconsin. The Mavericks
trying for another shot. Here loose puck in front of
McNaught and she couldn't cover it. Second shot is saved. O.
Tremba had one set third shot and I think she
got that with the paddle of the stick. Oh my word,
a shot from Julianna Gastick. I can't believe McNaughton made
the save. Sims crosses up with Edwards, drops the pass
(01:52:16):
tour at the top of the circle, O'Brien into the slot,
backhand the Sims back door score. Yeah, Edwards to O'Brien
to Sims. What a backhanded pass from O'Brien to find
Kirsten Sims who puts it away on the short side.
It's too nothing, Wisconsin. Those were the highlights for you. Madison.
My sugar had the score for Minnesota State at seventeen
(01:52:37):
forty one in the first that came after that Kirsten
Sims goal. It was a power play goal and she
was assisted by Jenessa Gastick and Sidney langsth But the
Badgers come out on top. They get a two to
one victory. This is the second to last game of
this twenty twenty four calendar year. We will be back
here in action again tomorrow two pm. Puck Drop one
forty five pregame show start here on Am ten seven.
(01:53:00):
It'll be the Badgers against Minnesota State. Once again. The
Wisconsin Men are in action tonight seven o'clock against Michigan State.
They take on number one Michigan State at the Coal Center.
That'll be on our sisters station AM thirteen ten WIBA.
Be sure to tune in then coach any final thoughts
before we get going.
Speaker 2 (01:53:15):
I just want to say I'm glad everybody came to play,
that we had people healthy and they delivered the mail.
It's just exciting contest on Wisconsin.
Speaker 1 (01:53:23):
Amen to that. Well, folks, for our producers, our veteran
Sean and our newcomer Katie, my partner Mark Greenhall. My
name is Zaxie lof staying so long. Take care of
yourselves and take care of somebody else. Good Night, everybody,
