(01:47):
Gates the NFL Draft tonight. How many Tigers will be
taken overall in the NBA, I mean in the NFL draft.
Got NBA on the mind with the playoff underway, as
I noted here on the program yesterday, six guys in.
I think only three of them are going to be selected.

(02:09):
But more peculiarly, if that is a word, I'm pretty
sure it is. I guess that's your theory. But more
peculiar now I can't even say it. More peculiarly is
the fact that the Clypson Tigers have had a player

(02:34):
drafted in the opening round opening three rounds of the
NFL Draft, dating all the way back to twenty ten.
The last time the Tigers didn't have a player drafted
in the first three rounds was nine, Dabo Sweeney's first

(02:58):
full season in Tigertown. Speaking of Dabo Sweeney and his accomplishments,
we'll dive into those here momentarily. But it is the
ninetieth annual NFL Draft coming up tonight from Green Bay, Wisconsin,

(03:21):
eight o'clock this evening Round one only seven o'clock tomorrow
will get rounds two and three, and then at noon
on Sunday, you will get rounds four through seven, and
there is a legitimate possibility that you don't have a
Clemson player drafted until you get to Saturday's rounds four

(03:44):
through seven. The timing fortunately has been trimmed a little bit.
I did not remember this from last season, and I
believe it was one of my complaints when I talked
about the first round of the NFL Draft yesterday. It
is only ten minutes between selections, not fifteen as it
used to be, so Round one tonight should go a

(04:06):
little bit quicker than usual. Round two there will be
seven minutes between selections, and rounds three through six, including
the compensatory picks, will have five minutes each between selections.
Round seven, including compensatory picks, will only have four minutes.

(04:31):
Now you can watch it on the NFL network. You
can watch it on ABC, ESPN, ESPN two, and it
can be heard nationwide on Westwood one Radio and serious
XM's NFL Radio along with ESPN Radio. So a lot
of ways for people to tune in and listen to

(04:54):
the NFL Draft or watch it all. Clempson prospects are
expected to watch the NFL DW from private watch parties
at respective locations again. Jake Brenning Stool, tight end, Barrett Carter, linebacker,
running back philm MafA, safety RJ. Mickens, defensive tackle Peyton Page,

(05:18):
and offensive lineman Marcus Tate all up for being all
our draft eligible this year. Those six players, and I
really think Barrett Carter comes off the board first. I
think Jake Brenning Stool comes off the board second, and

(05:39):
then I think RJ. Mickins probably comes off the board third.
I struggle to believe that MafA, Page and Tate will
be taken. Of those three. If I had to venture
a guess which one would be selected, I might actually
lean in a little bit on film MafA. Running backs
in the NFL not the highest priority pickups. But a

(06:04):
guy with power and balance and things of that nature
that Phil MafA has I think makes him a suitable
candidate to be drafted in tonight's NFL draft. But I
do only excuse me, not tonight, but you know what
I mean, over the next three days. But I do
think that those first three I mentioned, Britney, Stool, Carter,

(06:24):
and Mickens will all be selected. Now, how will that
affect head coach Stabo Sweeney? Well? Currently if we talk
about his tenure dating back to the interim in eight
Sweeney has served as the head coach for eighty three
draft picks from Clemson. That is currently the most of

(06:44):
any active coach during that span. Now we know that
the active term or the term active coach has changed
when Nick Saban stepped away. Nick Saban, if you go
go back to all coaches since two thousand and nine,
would lead the way with one hundred and thirty three.

(07:05):
Dabos Sweeney's eighty three, fifty players behind Nick Saban. Brian
Kelly is only six players behind Dabo Sweeney at seventy seven,
and of course he is an active head coach. And
then the other active coaches. Kirby Smart is twenty spots

(07:27):
behind Sweeney with just sixty three players drafted, James Franklin
with sixty one, and Kirk Ferrence at fifty six. Those
are active head coaches with players drafted in the NFL.
So there was a fifty point gap, a fifty point
gap between Nick Saban and Dabo Sweeney.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
It was serious about.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
That very fifty player gap, I should say not point.
And there is a twenty player gap between Dabosweeny and
Herbie Smart, but expect that again, as I noted, I
think those things will be diminished slightly in this draft,
and I would venture to assume that LSU probably will

(08:16):
have more players selected than Clemson once the result is done,
meaning Brian Kelly could narrow the gap with Dabosweeney here
in this draft, as Clemson does not have a ton
of what I would label truly draft eligible players in
the mix. Now, if you expanded out further and continue
that conversation about drafted players, the coaches with the most

(08:40):
players drafted since nine and you talk about the guys
that have are not coaching. Following Sabing at one thirty
three and Sweeny at eighty three and Brian Kelly at
seventy seven, is Jim Harball with seventy three and jimbo
Fisher with seventy two. In that same timeline, Sweeney has
produced eighteen first round picks, and that is the most

(09:07):
of any coach on the active roster list. Sweeney won
ahead of Kirby Smart, who has had seventeen, Brian Kelly
has had thirteen, Kirk Ferens has had ten, and Ryan
day As has also had ten. Dating back to two
thousand and eight. So again, I think that tells you.

(09:30):
Look at Georgia with seventeen under Kirby, look at Ryan
Day in Ohio State with ten. We could certainly include
Brian Kelly, but I don't for this sake of this argument,
because of his the length of time that he's been coaching.
Kirby Smart and Ryan Day will most assuredly will surpass
Dabosweeney in first round picks, and it'll be a while,

(09:55):
but I think Kirby Smart will eventually clip Sweeney on
the the active list as well, assuming that Dabos when
he coaches long enough that it would give Brian excuse
me that it would give Kirby Smart enough time to
run him down from twenty players back. Now, as for

(10:19):
how the NFL shapes up or has shaped up for Clemson,
the Tigers have produced fifty five draft picks in the
NFL during the College Football Playoff era, and given Clemson's
level of success during the College Football Playoff, which up
until recent years was undoubtedly the second best, some might

(10:43):
argue now whether it's Ohio State or Georgia, but I
would still put Clemson given what they've done during the
College Football Playoff above those teams, but they have the
chance to go above the Tigers by securing another national championship. Certainly,
but during that time since the coag Football Playoff era,

(11:04):
the Tigers fifty five draft picks to the NFL ranked
seventh in the country. And you would obviously guess that
Alabama's at the top with ninety two players selected during
that time. But for Clemson have had the success that

(11:25):
they've had in the Collage Football Playoff, all the championship
games they played for, the national titles that they won,
et cetera, you might assume they would be higher than this,
but they're not. Ohio State is second with seventy six,
Georgia third with seventy three, LSU is fourth with seventy,
Michigan is fifth with sixty nine, and Florida is sixth

(11:48):
with fifty eight. One of these things is not like
the others. One of these things is not the same
Florida in the mix with the other teams that have
won the national championship. The only other teams that have
won the national championship in the College Football Playoff era Alabama,
Ohio State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, and Clemson, Penn State is

(12:15):
eighth with fifty four in Oklahoma is ninth with fifty
players drafted, and Notre Dame is tenth with forty seven
players drafted since the college football playoff era, but every
champion during the playoff era ranks within the top seven,
and the only team to nudge their way into that

(12:35):
conversation ahead of a team that's won a championship and
make that two is Florida being ahead of your climpse
of Tigers now. The Tigers have also produced sixty eight
NFL draft picks during the current fourteen year consecutive nine
win seasons, the seventh most from a school during that

(12:56):
time Lucky number seven again for the Tigers, ironically in
a very similar order. The only schools that they've had
more picks during that time since Clemson number one, Alabama
with one hundred and seventeen, LSU number two with ninety three,
Georgia number three with ninety, Ohio State number four with

(13:16):
eighty nine, Michigan number five with seventy seven. Florida is
sixth with seventy two. Clemson checks in with sixty eight,
Oklahoma just behind the Tigers at sixty seven. Penn excuse me,
Notre Dame with sixty five, and Penn State and Florida
State both tied during that same timeline with sixty four.

(13:37):
So you're talking about being in the elite of the
elite when it comes down to NFL picks over nearly
a decade and a half for the Clemson Tigers. And
here's one more little stat for you. Out of the
gates on a Thursday afternoon, tim Berrace has joined the
program around the ben in our two. Clemson has produced

(14:00):
at least five selections in five of the last six
NFL drafts, including six selections in twenty nineteen, seven selections
in twenty twenty five selections in twenty twenty one, and
six in both twenty twenty three and twenty twenty four.
Clemson streak of three consecutive drafts with at least five

(14:21):
picks from twenty nineteen through twenty twenty one was one
shy the longest streak in school history from twenty fourteen
through twenty seventeen, all of those being Dabbos twenty eras
only three schools have had at least five draft picks
selected in a single draft more times than Clemson in

(14:43):
the last ten drafts. The Tigers have done it eight times.
The only schools that have done it more is Alabama,
who has done it every time with ten, Georgia and
Ohio State who have done it nine out of ten. Clemson, Florida, LSU,
and Penn State have all done it eight times. And
I don't think Clemson gets there this year because, as

(15:03):
I said, I don't think they're going to have five
draft picks in the draft tonight. Well I did it
again in the draft of the next three days. I
just I don't see that panning out for Clemson. Now.
Could they? Yes, will they? I doubt it. And it's

(15:24):
not to you know, think just because you might have
a draft that's a little bit less than the norm,
that the program by any means is in a bad spot.
As a matter of fact, I think if you really
look at it and you think about some of those guys,
some of those names that are coming out in the

(15:46):
next year or so, I think you kind of rebrand
or kind of rebuild who you are in the mind's
eye of a lot of a lot of fans with
a good season next year in the NFL draft, And

(16:06):
I think Clemson has the potential, absolutely has the potential
to put together a really solid draft class a excuse me,
a really solid draft class next season. Obviously, you know

(16:28):
k Klubnick would be I would think the big name
because he's a quarterback, and if he has another really
good year, I think he will certainly run into a
pretty solid level of consideration. And then you look at
a guy like Peter Woods, and you know, you think

(16:50):
about Woods, thinking about TJ. Parker. You know there's some
talented there's some talented guys on this team coming into
the season or coming into this season, they do have
a chance to make a little noise. You got a
lot of offensive linemen back Blake Miller I think potentially

(17:13):
could be drafted down the road. Maybe with a good season.
You could add trust in lead of that conversation. Certainly
Demante k Part on the interior of that defensive line.
Given the success that Clemson guys have had and the
way Clemson's defenders have been evaluated, I mean, that's that

(17:33):
is something to consider. You know, Clemson's defense with guys
like Grady jareded out there on the resume and Rooke
o' row row row on the resume. You know, I
think having that type of success from maybe some undervalued

(17:55):
guys in your program in the past. I think makes
coaches in the NFL and scouts in the NFL think
that you've probably been you know, you're built of the
right stuff, as Dabosweeny might say, and they'll they're willing,
you know, to give you an opportunity, give you a

(18:16):
chance to see if you you know, if you can
earn it.

Speaker 1 (18:19):
Now.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
I don't think they're gonna spend a first rounder on you,
but I don't think you have to be, oh well,
elite after you've seen some of the success that some
of the other guys out there from Tiger Town you know,
have had. So I think some of those interior defensive
linemen will certainly get the benefit of the doubt given

(18:39):
kind of the storylines that have followed that has followed
Clemson football on the defensive front in the NFL. Eight
zero three four five h zero zero eighty six. We
can talk a little bit more about the draft coming up,
and just a little bit plus of course coming up
an hour number two. As I mentioned, legendary Clemson S

(19:02):
I D. Tim Beray set to join the program. Always
fun catching up with Tim, getting a chance to talk
with him about everything going on in the world of Clemson,
will get his thoughts on the NFL Draft, and maybe
maybe might even get into Tim's thoughts on you know,
draft eligible or players in all in Clemson's roster this

(19:26):
season that might very well be worthy of being drafted
in the NFL Draft next year, because again, I think,
you know, that's probably another really positive season for Clemson
in the draft. I just don't expect a lot of
guys to be taken this season. Eights are three four

(19:49):
five zero zero eighty six. A sorry quick break. We'll
come back with more here on a Thursday afternoon. It
is the Show that Shakes the south Land on Fox
Sports Radio fourteen hundred Clemson Sports Thaw, The Show that
shakesa south Land. Back at it on a Thursday a
three four five zero zero zero eighty six text line,

(20:11):
phone line, and again, be a part of the program
any time, any place, anywhere. The NFL Draft coming up tonight,
rounds one, tonight, two and three tomorrow. I really don't
expect a Tiger to come off the board unless it's
Barrett Carter in round three. I mean, other than that,

(20:33):
you know, I think this is gonna be a pretty
lean draft. One name I didn't mention earlier, probably should
kind of a local guy, Antonio Williams could be a
name next year to look for, maybe being drafted, depending
on what type of season he puts together this year.
But yeah, I mean, look, this roster hasn't had the

(21:01):
same level of elite that it had for a lot
of years. You know, the Brian Berzies of the world,
the Trevor Lawrences of the world, the Deshaun Watson's of
the world, and so you know, that's probably been one

(21:23):
of the reasons that you've seen a little bit of
a drop off. And probably it you know, the what's
the word, you know, the collective whole of the talent
is probably better than it was in the early goings
of Deshaun Watson. And I think that, you know, the

(21:47):
transfer portal fortunately has not overly impacted Clemson in a
negative way. Yet there's got to have become a point
where it does hit you, you know, pretty hard, and
like losing a guy a year ago like Bo Collins,
didn't affect you the way it could have, especially if

(22:11):
Bo Collins would have been more along the lines of
what SAYD T. Higgins or some of these other guys
that have been in the past for Clemson, right, It's
one thing to lose a player, it's another thing to
lose a guy who's a really impactful player. And Collins,

(22:31):
quite frankly, in the performed better than or worse than
my expectations. Would fall into the worst stand. I didn't
think Bo Collins was all that spectacular, and I would

(22:53):
say had a subpar career at Clemson, not throwing shaded
a guy that left, just recognizing that when he left,
I didn't have to go, oh, my goodness, what is
Clemson gonna do? And quite frankly, in football, if there's
a fortune to the way Dabbosweeny has done things, if

(23:15):
there's some fortune to it, it's that you haven't really
been bit in the rear end by anything like that.
Could the dj Ouyunglow thing have been a bigger deal, Sure,
but dj underperformed. Ironically, both of those guys from the
same high school, right, so he and Bo Collins. For

(23:40):
those people that didn't recognize the connection there. All that
being said, you know, you haven't really been bitten by it.
You haven't really had to look yourself in the mirror
and go whoo o man, can you imagine that guy
if he was still with us. Think of all the
schools that have had to have that conversation, but Clemson hasn't.

(24:07):
Fortunately the guys that you would want to stay and
be There have been guys who have stayed and been there.
But eventually you're you're gonna get bit. It's going to happen.
There's gonna be a guy. I mean, really, if you

(24:30):
really think about it, take any portal guys, any you know,
not even so much transferred portal, just guys that transferred
out before the portal was a big thing. I mean
DeMarcus Bowman, who was a five star running back that
didn't jump up and bite you. Darrion Kendrick didn't really.

(24:52):
I mean, that's probably the one, you know that would
probably that would probably be the one guy that you
would go, you know what you want, and you know,
he certainly had some off the field stuff that led
to him being out of Clemson more so than hey,
I'm hitting the portal. But he ends up at Georgia
and helps the Bulldogs win the national championship. I mean,

(25:14):
that's that's there's something to be said for that. But
it wasn't as if all season long, you're going, ah, man,
we really do miss Decay in this situation. You know,
it's not losing Deshaun Watson or Trevor Lawrence or Travis
Etn That kind of hit hasn't happened yet for Clemson fortunately.

(25:42):
But when you look at the the guys that are
on the team last season and this season, in terms
of draft stock, it doesn't just vault to the top
of Oh yeah, that's a legit first rounder, that's a
legit it's second rounder. That kind of talent is not

(26:02):
on the roster, and I don't know that it's on
the roster for next season's NFL draft, aside from some
guys coming out early like Parker and Woods. But you
can win. You can win. I just don't know if

(26:23):
you can win national titles without first and second round
talent kind of littered all over your roster. And then,
you know, when you think about it from the NFL standpoint,
I do think one of the other things that's kind
of wild is you know, you get some guys that
maybe weren't as highly thought of that find a way

(26:45):
to linger and hold on. I mean, I can't tell
you every so often I'm watching the NFL, and they're like,
and here's Ray Ray McLeod, and I'm like, Ray Ray
really still making it in the NFL, while other guys
just can't crack the door, you know, Dion Kine or
somebody like that can't really can't really hold the door

(27:07):
open long enough in the NFL. But if you, if
you got a little niche, you can figure out a
way to make it happen. And some guys do, and
you're often surprised when they're just still in the league
doing their thing, and then somebody else that you thought
would certainly be a star is no longer playing at

(27:28):
the highest level. Quick break, We'll come back an update
you on the NBA action from last night. Right after this,
Clemson Sports saw the show The Shakes of south Land.
Lawton Swan hanging out with you on a Thursday. Hard
to believe it's a Thursday, and we're hoping that Tim
Bray can join us at the top of the hour.

(27:49):
Looking forward to getting his insights into the Clemson draft
this year again. Lots of draft notes over on Clemson
Tigers dot com. Speaking of Clemson Tigers dot com, we'll
talk about this in a minute. Clemson Baseball at NC
State today seven o'clock on the ACC Network. But the
NFL Draft also underway, and that's the main thing we

(28:11):
will talk with Tim Burray about. Come up at hour
number two. As he joins, this is, of course, if
you're up in Tigertown, don't forget to stop by Alumni
Hall on the corner of campus on College Avenue of
downtown Clemson. It's Alumni Hall for all your Clemson gear, hats, apparel, tailgate, equipment, tailgate,
you know, the stickers, you know we're on our way

(28:32):
to see the Tigers play the Magnets. All that stuff
at Alumni Hall online at alumni hall dot com. Plus
Clemson students, faculty in all military get ten percent off
when shopping in store. Ten percent off when shopping in store.
That's Alumni Hall, a stone's throw from historic Rigsfield Alumni

(28:56):
Hall where Tiger fans shop. Again, don't forget that website,
alumni haul dot com. All right, last night in the NBA,
and again we don't talk about the NBA much. We
don't talk about baseball much, but when we get to
the postseason, we talk about them much. The Boston Celtics

(29:17):
took a two to oh series lead over Orlando one
oh nine, one hundred. In their series, Cleveland, the top
seed in the East, won one twenty one, one twelve
over Miami to take a two oh series lead, and
Houston tied their series out West with the Golden State
Warriors with a one to oh nine ninety four victory.

(29:40):
We'll come back to Boston in just a second tonight
at seven o'clock on TNT, it'll be the New York
Knicks and the Detroit Pistons one game apiece in that series.
At nine point thirty, the top seed in the West,
Oklahoma City, the thund will take on Memphis on TNT.

(30:03):
Oklahoma City leads that series two games to none. And
then at ten o'clock on NBA TV Denver and La
the Clippers that series tied that one game apiece. So
a huge matchup there out in Los Angeles. But I

(30:26):
told you we were coming back to Boston, and we will.
Because I don't know if you saw this, but the
head coach of the Boston Celtics, Joe Missoula, was I
guess during Game one there was a moment that Celtics

(30:51):
star Jason Tatum went down with an injury. Now Tatum,
who was writhing in pain on the floor. Missoula basically
told the trainer, no, don't go out there, and then

(31:14):
yelled get up at his star. Remember, these are the
defending champions. The coach was frustrated with the fact that
he was rolling around, and quite frankly, it turns out
that Jason Tatum had only injured his wrist. One fan

(31:39):
on Twitter set, I actually have gained some respect here
for Missoula. I get that Tatum is hurt and hurt
his wrist, but that doesn't require rolling around on the
floor like a clown. This is a tough love. This
is tough love from the coach and a rare, non
soft NBA moment. More of this is needed. Another person

(32:03):
on Twitter wrote, there's a couple of coaches in the
NBA that are bringing back the Bobby Knight school of thought.
Good that player, that fan said. Another fan on social
media said, I did this last year to a player
on my eight eight U league. That's an eight and underleague,
and I'm the bad guy.

Speaker 3 (32:23):
No.

Speaker 2 (32:23):
Look, I mean, here's here's the thing. These players can
be prima donnas. I think we can admit that the
amount of money they make is absurd. Their reaction to
being hit is insane. And you know, I'm all for
leagues imposing fines and things of that nature on guys

(32:49):
who flop around and try to get calls. And and again,
if you hurt your wrist, it does not require rolling
around on the as if you've been shot in a leg,
you can get up and walk that off, still in
the same amount of pain. And don't come at me

(33:12):
with Swanny when the last time you were rolling around
with a broken wrist, if you ever broke your wrist, Swani,
you'd be rolling around crying. I haven't broken my wrist,
but I do know it does not require rolling around

(33:33):
on the ground to pacify the pain. Now, granted, it
might be hard to get up, and that would be
one thing if you were struggling to get up because
you couldn't push off with your wrist or whatever. But typically,
speaking to moments like that, with all the adrenaline, everything
that you've you've got going on, you're fine. And Tatum

(33:53):
was doubtful for last night's game, and he did not
play because of his bruised right wrist. According to the report,
The Celtics were led by Jalen Brown, who scored thirty
six points on twelve of nineteen shooting and also had
ten rebounds in the ballgame without Tatum in the mix,

(34:16):
so the Celtics do take a two to zero series lead.
Jason Tatum gets a couple of days to rest up because,
of course, you know that injury, that wrist injury causes
people to writhe around on the ground as if they've
you know, broken their leg, like you know, their things,

(34:39):
like if you said, oh, he snapped his achilles. I
get it roll around. The fact that Kobe Bryant shot
free throws with a busted achilles is mind blowing and
what made both of them that guy, that guy was
nuts awesome, but good on in my opinion, Joe Missoula
for you know, calling it out. You know, man, my

(35:02):
wrist hurts. Well, that's okay. You're one of the toughest guys.
I know you'll be all right. Final segment next, Stay
with us, Final segment of our number one right here
on Fox Sports Radio fourteen hundred Clemson Sports Talk. As
I said I said final segment earlier, this is not
the final segment of the show. I typically say final
segment of our number one, Just keeping you know you

(35:23):
abreast of where we are coming up. We're hoping to
be joined by Tim Beray. But it's going to be
a pretty tight program, pretty tight program as far as that. Now,
we do have some news that kind of ties to
the NBA, kind of ties to college basketball. As five

(35:52):
star prospect and Southern Cal commit Elijah Arenas, a shooting
guard out of Chatsworth, California, plays at Chatsworth High School
who committed to Southern Cal back in January, is currently
in an induced coma after a crash. According to reports,

(36:16):
Arena sixty seven excuse me sixty six, one hundred and
ninety seven pounds. He was involved in a serious car
crash in Los Angeles early Thursday morning. According to the
LA Fire Department Public Information Officer, officials responded to a
call at four fifty five am after a Tesla cyber

(36:38):
truck crashed into a tree fire hydrant with fire involved.
The Los Angeles Fire Department did not identify the person,
but said that the eighteen year old driver was out
of the vehicle and that he was transported to the
hospital in serious condition. Sources confirmed that Arenas was involved

(36:59):
in the crash and told he ESPN that initial tests
showed he did not suffer broken bones again. Arenas is
the son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas. He is
the thirteenth ranked recruit in the class of twenty twenty
five after reclassifying in December and then committing to the

(37:20):
Trojans in January. So, Elijah Arenus, you probably recognized that
last name from his dad's time in the NBA. Involved
in a car accident, and we certainly hope the best
for this young man. The part that was, you know,

(37:44):
I think most confusing looking at it was the fact
that he was outside of the vehicle without an injury,
but yet in a medically induced coma. So I don't
know if that means that he was physically outside of
the vehicle now, according to Sports Illustrated, and what I

(38:07):
mean by physically is like, was he just on his
feet standing? According to Sports Illustrator reporter Tyreek Fattel, Arenas
inhaled a lot of smoke from the burning cyber truck,
and putting a smoke inhalation victim in an induced coma
is considered quote protocol. So that may very well be

(38:31):
the situation and the way it all or why it's
all gone the way it has in terms of that.
So from that standpoint, and again I have no clue
about smoke inhalation, but the fact that the belief is

(38:54):
and the words not oh yeah, he you know, has
bleeding on the brain or something like that, I tend
to think that's probably a positive sign that it's the
smoke inhalation. But I have no idea how damaging that

(39:16):
can be by comparison to, you know, other incidents that
you might have when you are in a situation like that.
But man, thoughts and prayer certainly to that young man,
and I hope he'll bounce right back from this. I mean,
he is only been committed for a few months now

(39:39):
to Southern Cal, and I don't know much about the
Southern Cal basketball program, but he was a five star prospect,
third best player in the state of California, and the
thirteenth best player. As I mentioned in the class all right,
shifting gears real quick before the top the hour. Miami

(40:02):
quarterback cam Ward is expected to be the number one
overall pick in the draft tonight, and we kind of
talked about the draft and how we think it could
potentially set up. But one of the things that I've
come across a couple of times over the past few days,
is the possibility that Ashton Genty, running back at Boise State,

(40:32):
might very well be the pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Now,
in most situations, that would mean a whole lot outside
of the fact that certainly with Trevor Lawrence there you
followed the Jacksonville Jaguars. But there's that other guy that's

(40:52):
also with the Jaguars that you followed for many years.
Travis etn Now, the NFL is funny in that you
don't necessarily, you know, have one running back. It's not
the way it once was where you just kind of
leaned in on one guy and you had capable backups.

(41:14):
It is a business where there's multiple guys that tend
to fill that billing for a team. But Saquon Barkley,
with the success that he's had with both the New
York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles this past season, winning
a championship has almost single handedly rewritten the belief system

(41:39):
for some teams about what a legit number one back
can still be in the NFL. And Genti comps those
comparables that people put out there a lot of people
compare him to Saquon Barkley, and I just wonder in
the day and age where running backs aren't something that's

(42:00):
overly protected or desired, if Jenti is taken at the
number five pick by Jacksonville and they keep him, does
that mean Travis et N's days are numbered or will
he just kind of be the backup? I don't know,
I don't know. I think that's an interesting thing to
follow though. All Right, our two round the Bend stay

(42:23):
with us.

Speaker 1 (42:25):
Each time or Clipson Sports Talk with Luton Swan.

Speaker 2 (43:06):
It is our number two. That's drivetime right here on
the show, The Shakespeare, South End, Clemson Sports stal Lord
and Swan hanging out with you on a Thursday. Still
witing here from timb Ray. I you know his schedule
this time of the year with golf. I don't know
where they're golfing this week, but it is possible that

(43:27):
Tim is with NBC doing some work with golf. So
we'll push through here and if he texts me at
some point along the way, we'll slide him into the
program in the back half. Now, we were talking about

(43:48):
the NFL Draft before the break again. That's coming up tonight.
The Tennessee Titans have the first pick, and cam Ward
is expected to be the number one pick in the draft.
The Cleveland Browns owned the second pick, the New York
Giants owned the third pick, the New England Patriots owned

(44:08):
the fourth pick, and the Jacksonville Jaguars owned the fifth
pick currently. And like I said, Ashton Genty, that's a
hard name for me say Ashton. Ashton Genty, running back
at Boise State, is expected to potentially go number five,

(44:28):
which would be to Jacksonville at this point. And again,
you never know, Like that's the thing I said it
yesterday when we kind of went through the draft and
talking about it, like one thing is for sure. This
whole thing can get flipped on its head in a blink,
and every draft expert opinion that is out there can
be null and void. Ten minutes in. Yeah, you walk

(44:55):
into that arena and the Tennessee Titans have traded their
first pick or the Cleveland Browns have traded their selection.
All of a sudden, it's a new ballgame across the board,
depending on who moves up and what they give up
and and all of that. So that's one of the

(45:17):
unique things about it, not to mention the disparity in
the number of picks that some teams have in the
draft that they've acquired over the years. I think the
two teams that have the most picks this year going

(45:37):
into the draft, and this could change, the San Francisco
forty nine Ers. They have eleven picks. The Niners have
the eleventh pick of the draft, the forty third that's
the second round pick they've got, the seventy fifth, and
the one hundredth those are third round selections. The one
thirteenth and the one to thirty eighth those are fourth

(46:00):
round selections, the one forty seventh in the one sixtieth
that's fifth round selections. And then the two to twenty seventh,
two forty ninth, and two hundred and fifty second pick
those are all three seventh round selections. And then the
Baltimore Ravens, I think, also had eleven picks. If my

(46:22):
memory serves me correctly. On that the Ravens have picks
number twenty seven in the first round, fifty nine in
the second round, ninety one in the third, one twenty
nine and one thirty six in the fourth, one seventy
six in the fifth, one eighty three two oh three
and two ten and two twelve in the sixth and

(46:45):
two forty three in the seventh round. So those two
teams have eleven and there was a handful of other
teams that have ten picks in the draft then as
far as teams with the fewest number of picks. Right now,
Minnesota has four first round twenty fourth pick, third round
ninety seventh pick, fifth round one thirty ninth pick, and

(47:08):
the sixth round one hundred and eighty seventh pick, So
just four selections for the Minnesota Vikings. I think the
Falcons will start the draft with five picks, and then
there were a handful of teams with six picks, and
then that kind of trickles on up to you know,

(47:28):
that top group as I mentioned earlier. But yeah, so
there's a big discrepancy in the number of picks that
each franchise has. Now a little closer to home, brought
you Carolina Panther fans out there. The Panthers have nine picks.
Their first pick is the eighth pick currently in the
first round, fifty seventh pick in the second round, seventy

(47:53):
fourth pick in the third round, one to eleven, and
one fourteen in the fourth round, one six and one
sixty three in the fifth round, then they will pick
two hundred and thirtieth in round seven. That's round seven,
so nine picks for the Panthers, and then of course
our Jacksonville Jaguars have ten picks beginning with that fifth

(48:15):
pick I mentioned earlier that is projected good. Ashton genty
I said it really well that time. I'm very proud
of myself. The thirty sixth pick in the second round,
the seventieth pick, and the eighty eighth picks in the
third round, one oh seven and one to twenty six
in the fourth round, one forty two in the fifth,
one eighty two and one ninety four and the sixth

(48:37):
to two twenty one and the seventh And if you're
a Jaguar fan, I think the thing you I think
the thing you do like is six picks in the
first four rounds. I think that's that's a good number.
But again, it can shift in a blink. I mean
it can shift in a blink, and a team that
doesn't have many picks can end up with a lot,

(48:58):
you know, if they make some kind of draft night trade,
if they have a player that they really want to
bring into the fold. Then that's another thing to consider.
And so you know, I think the fact that it's
on a Thursday night, I don't know what the ratings

(49:20):
were a year ago. I find it hard to believe
that it would have been better than what the ratings
would be if you did it on Saturday and Sunday,
or even a Friday night Saturday and Sunday. But I mean,
at this point, the NFL's product is so big that
you know, the decisions that they make one way or

(49:42):
the other probably aren't going to overly impact the numbers.
I mean, the fandom there is unique. The funny thing
about it tonight, if you watch it, is the fans
who are there, and certainly they're gonna be a a
lot of cheese heads out in Green Bay. But fans

(50:03):
make the track, they make the journey, They wear the
face paint, they wear the jerseys of the old stars,
and then they proceed to put on their general manager
caps as if they know every single player that's being drafted,
and certainly on Night one, you probably know most of them.

(50:26):
But the response that teams have to their selections, the
fans that they have to the team selections might be
a better way to say it. I mean it's outstanding
because especially once you get a little further into the draft,
and you see this in the NBA draft as well,
which is a lot less rounds, but you start to

(50:47):
get into rounds four or five in the NFL draft,
and they're still they're still there in the crowd, there's
still people there or whatever, and they're like, with the
ninety eighth pick in the two thousand in twenty five
NFL Draft, the Buffalo bill select Roger Hazelton Iowa, and

(51:08):
there's a fan going, yeah, They're like, fie. Then then
there's it's inevitable they pan, and there's somebody behind them
going who. So you will see both sides of the
spectrum tonight in the terms of in terms of fans

(51:28):
who are happy about a pick and fans who are
upset about a pick. What I do What I really
like though about the reactions, maybe more than anything, is
when you've got a fan base that's waiting for a guy.
But let's say it was Buffalo and they were waiting

(51:51):
for this player, Travis Smith or whatever, and the team
that's drafting before them, and you're looking mel Kiper's big
board best available and it's like Travis Smith wide receiver,
it's like tight in you know whoever, and they just know,

(52:14):
they just know that they're gonna get their guy. And
then a team that's already got a good white out
or whatever takes him, and it's just like stunning to
the fans, like, no, we almost had our guy, and
all of a sudden, The wild thing about it is
your guy, the guy you wanted, the guy you hoped

(52:35):
to choose, the guy you couldn't wait to root for.
In some instances, let's say you were a Miami Dolphin
fan and you were drafting right behind Buffalo arrival. In
a blink, that guy goes from being one that you
can't wait to root for to one that you will

(52:55):
only root against. Just like that. Now for me, I
talked about Dabo Sweeney's success in our Number one. If
you missed any of that, catch the podcast. But one
of the things that I really appreciate about Dabo Sweeney

(53:19):
and the success that he has or has had, is
that he has single handedly made NFL Sundays more exciting
for me. And I know when I was a kid
growing up, Danny Ford and Clemson had produced some talent

(53:39):
and there were guys in the league, from William Perry
to Donne L. Woolford. I think Kenny Flagler at that
point might have been in the NFL with maybe the
forty nine ers. You had Michael Dean Perry in the league.
I mean, you had some guys, Levin Kirklin, Chris Gardaki.

(54:00):
There were guys in the league. But it wasn't like this.
It wasn't like what Clemson had at Buffalo a few
years back, where you're kind of calling them Clemson North
or what Houston had. At one point. It was kind
of you know, Clemson in the Central and you've seen
some teams that have gravitated for whatever reason towards a

(54:24):
lot of these guys from Clemson. I kind of talked
about earlier. I think you get the benefit of the doubt.
You get the benefit of the doubt if you play
at Clemson at this point, and it could certainly shift
enough players going to the league. It turned out to
be busts and you might get passed over because it
doesn't look like the guys that Clemson puts in the

(54:46):
league produce. But Carlos Watkins, I mean, you start to
go through the defensive lineman specifically kind of like what
I was talking about earlier, the number of defensive linemen
that have had had success in the NFL. You know,
Cleveland Ferrell overdrafted, I think, you know, going forth. I

(55:09):
hate that because it was such an exciting moment when
he went for But Christian Wilkins and Dexter Lawrence are
two of the best defensive linemen in the game. And
I think because of that fact, along with Grady Jarrett,
along with Ruke and other guys on the endier Carlos Watkins,

(55:32):
I think you get the benefit of the doubt if
you are a Clemson Tiger football player in that NFL draft,
especially on the defensive line, and you probably should get
the benefit of the doubt. Quite frankly, you probably should.
And so tonight I think it gonna be a strange

(55:55):
night for Tiger fans who have kind of watched the
draft over recent years to see would Brian Brazie or
Miles Murphy, would those guys be drafted in the first round,
and where would some of those great skill position players land,
and so on and so forth. But this year doesn't

(56:16):
have that doesn't have that connectivity for Tiger fans. It's
going to be a little more of a grind. As
I noted, I certainly did not expect any Clemson player
to be drafted tonight, and I'm doubtfully any Clemson player
will be drafted tomorrow. One of the things, though, that

(56:36):
I do wonder if it will finally come to an end,
is the fact that the Carolina Panthers have never selected
a Clemson player. Not that I need a Tiger to

(56:59):
go to that franchise right now, they are atrocious, But
despite the fact that the Panthers played in Clemson's Death
Valley for their first season my freshman year of college,
the Carolina Panthers are the only team who have not

(57:26):
drafted a Clemson Tiger. And since two thousand and three,
Get this, every team in the league has drafted a
Clemson Tiger, except for obviously the Carolina Panthers and the

(57:48):
New England Patriots. But since three, every team has drafted
a Tiger. How is that possible that the Carolina Panthers,
in all of these years, with these guys being in
their back yard, have not drafted a Tiger. It's crazy.

(58:16):
Clemson has had at least one first round draft choice
in ten of the last twelve years, standing alongside Alabama, Florida, Georgia,
and Ohio State as the only programs to produce a
first round pick in ten of the last twelve seasons.
Clemson has produced multiple defensive draft picks in thirteen of

(58:41):
the sixteen drafts during Dabos Sweeney's tenure. The only other
programs to do that Clemson, LSU, Alabama, Ohio State, and Georgia.
That is pretty surprising to me, quite frankly. It's not
that other schools haven't done it. I want to clarify

(59:02):
is that those teams have also done it at least
thirteen times as well. But that's one that you would
think would be pretty prevalent, and it may be. It
may just be the way that statistic has come together
that makes it seem a little bit more exclusive than
perhaps it really is. But here's one other one for you.

(59:23):
Since twenty thirteen, the Tigers have produced first round picks
from quarterback, running back, wide receiver, defensive end, defensive tackle, linebacker,
and defensive back, every position except for tight end. The
only other school with at least one first rounder from

(59:43):
all of those positions in that span is Alabama. That's
every spot, you know, every playing spot outside of like
kickers and punters, right like non special teams. That's every
position except for ty for Clemson in the NFL. And
it's not surprising to me. Who was I talking with.

(01:00:09):
I think it was Will Van Dervoort a couple of
weeks ago. Yeah, it was Will, And I noted that
tight end. Of all the positions, tight end is the
one where Clemson has really underperformed in recent years. Really,

(01:00:34):
it's never been the weapon that it needs to be
in this era of college football, and the draft status
over the past twelve years proves it. It's the only
position Clemson has not had a first round selection, Like
how do you get a brock Bowers? Like that's the question,
Like how do you land that guy? I mean, Clemson

(01:00:56):
was in the mix for Oscar Delp chose Georgia. Overcoming
the Bulldogs for a great tight end is going to
be incredibly difficult because of what they did with Brock
Bowers and how they utilized him. And I would say,
in fairness to Dabosweeney, it's not for lack of trying.

(01:01:18):
I mean they've tried to land some guys. Remember the
storyline that followed former Florida former LSU former Georgia tight
end Eric Gilbert. I mean, if Eric Gilbert had signed

(01:01:42):
with Clemson out of high school back in twenty twenty,
I would have thought they got the best tight end
that they've ever had. That dude hasn't busted a greape Collegiately,
he didn't bust a greape colle And you know, obviously

(01:02:02):
he's got some off the field stuff that has now
come into the issues with a burglary, et cetera. But
dude did not bust a grape collegiately. Oddly, a two
time national champion at Georgia, and I thought he'd be
all world, but he never did. Deadly stay with us,

(01:02:24):
rocking and rolling along with you on a Thursday. We
may not get up with Timbreraay today. That's all right.
Will van Derboort tomorrow will be joining us. Will and
I will be able to talk about game one of
Clemson's matchup on the road at NC State as the
Tigers and wolf Pack get underway tonight seven o'clock. That game,

(01:02:50):
good for Tiger fans, good for INC State fans, will
be televised on the ACC Network tonight. Now Friday and
Saturday's games will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra,
meaning you'll have to stream it on one of your devices.
Tonight's matchup begins at seven o'clock, Friday at six and

(01:03:12):
Saturday at one pm. As I mentioned earlier this week,
Clemson's baseball team rank number two in the country in
all major polls. The wolf Pack check in at number
twenty five according to D one Baseball, making it a
top twenty five matchup. If I had to complain about

(01:03:33):
college baseball other than my link to the games, argument
about baseball in general, that's not unique to just college baseball.
But if I had to make an argument about something
that frustrates me with college baseball, it's the fact that

(01:03:56):
we don't have two what we would label as Hey,
these are the polls. These are the polls, and I
think NC State might be number twenty five in USA
Today's poll as well. But that's what I just need.
These are the polls, and the rest of the polls
can go away. But let's make a couple of them
official and call the day. But again, the Tigers will

(01:04:22):
go on the road for these games up in Raleigh
this weekend. You can listen on Clemson Tigers dot com. Online.
You know we talked about that Georgia series. Well, this
one is kind of like the way I would think
the Georgia series is. And Christopher Thompson over at iHeart

(01:04:43):
Sports director was talking to me about Georgia and Clemson
the other day when I told him how surprised I
was about the numbers, and you know, he talked about,
you know, both really been good baseball teams traditionally, and
I just I did not realize Georgia has been that
good to lead the overall series against Clemson. The Tigers

(01:05:04):
lead the series against NC State one twenty five, ninety
two and one, dating Betty their first matchup back in
nineteen twenty one at n C State. Clemson also leads
fifty to forty five on the bump for the Tigers
to night the righty and the top arm for Clemson,
Aiden Cannock. He'll be taking on lefty Dominic Fritten from

(01:05:29):
NC State tomorrow. Following his all ACC or his ACC
Pitcher of the Week performance, I should say righty Drew
Tinsworth gonna draw the start in Game two. Right handed
pitcher Heath Andrews will be on the mound for the
wolf Pack and then Saturday. Clemson has yet to determine

(01:05:50):
who their starter will be. The Wolfpack will go in
lefty Ryan Moron, Not Moron Moron, m A R h N. Moron, Moron,
potato potato blooney bologna. I don't know. I'm going with
Ryan Moran. That's the way it looks to me. Clemson

(01:06:13):
has a six one road record this season and certainly
enters the game tonight against the whoop Back with a
lot of momentum after their three to zero victory over
number five Georgia on Tuesday. The Tiger's average seven point
four runs per game, batting two seventy seven. The pitching
staff for Clemson has a four to thirty two ERA,

(01:06:36):
with a two twenty five batting average four opponents and
a two six two point six toy one strikeout to
Walt Ratio. The Tigers are fielding at seventy six seventy
excuse me, ninety seven point six percent. I'm glad I

(01:06:57):
caught that. I'm glad I caught that. You guys be
like what they must they must like the Keystone cos
out there with a seventy six percent fielding percentage, there's
bobbing the balls left and right. N C State is
eighteen and six at home this season. They average eight

(01:07:17):
point one runs per game, and of course they're led
by their twenty ninth year head coach Elliott Avan. He's
been there forever. The wolf Pack went on the road,
just like Clympson did a few weeks ago. The wolf
Pack went on the road last weekend and swept col
The packer batting two eighty six and have a four
to ninety eight ERA in our fielding at a nine

(01:07:39):
to seventy two clip. For the Pack, Chris McHugh is
batting three to sixty eight with seven home runs and
forty four RBIs, while Luke Nixon leads away for them
with a team high thirteen steals and Andrew Schaffner has
a team high five saves for them. By the way,

(01:08:03):
ten of Clemson's last thirteen regular season games are on
the road, and probably should be given how home heavy
the first part of the schedule has been for Clemson.
The Tigers, by the way, get out of the gate
quick in these matchups. Their highest scoring inning is the

(01:08:26):
first inning this season, where they've scored sixty one runs,
and that's twenty one more than any other inning and
remember in that Georgia game they scored a run in
the first and the second. Clemson is thirty two to
oh this season when allowing less than two home runs
in a game. So if you don't go yard against

(01:08:47):
the Tigers, the odds that you win aren't great. And
speaking of going yard for the Tigers, sophomore infielder Colin
Priest a little bit of a slow start for him
to the twenty twenty five campaign, but now the transfer
from Michigan has turned it on, batting two sixty eight
with eight home runs, ten doubles, thirty seven RBIs, twenty

(01:09:10):
eight runs and thirty one walks and a partridge in
a pear tree in thirty nine games, of which he
started thirty seven. He also has a five to forty
five slugging percentage and is batting three point fifty six.
This is clutch here with runners in scoring position three

(01:09:33):
fifty six this season. So the Priest has delivered for
the Tigers. A little bit of a slow start though
for he and Luke Gaffney, maybe some nerves, maybe just
kind of adjusting the things, but man Colin Priests has
really come along for Clemson as of late. All Right,

(01:09:54):
quick break. We'll come back with more here on a
Thursday afternoon. Keep it locked though Fox Sports Radio fourteen hundred, Lawton,
swanwa your Clympson Sports So I don't forget about our
friends in Alumni Hall on the corner of campus on
College Avenue in downtown Clemson. It's Alumni Hall for all
your Clemson hats, t shirt, gifts, apparel, officially licensed merchandise

(01:10:14):
in Alumni Hall, a stones throw away from historic Riggs
Field and just across the street from my old stomping ground,
TD's Alumni Hall. Remember Clemson students faculty in all military.
You get ten percent off of shopping in store. Plus
if you go to Alumni Hall's website alumni Hall dot
com and you go through the links on our site
through ads, we'll get a little kickback from them and

(01:10:37):
that'll support us and Alumni Hall. We certainly appreciate you
doing that. Again, it's Alumni Hall where Tiger fans shop.
And again, don't forget Clemson baseball tonight, as I mentioned
seven o'clock on the ACC Network. All right, NFL Draft
as well, and our buddy tyrese Ingram put together an

(01:10:58):
article former Clemson Tiger Trenton Simpson, you know, kind of
talking about linebackers and players that if they had to
wait around a little bit and had an impact. I
don't even think I mentioned Trenton Simpson's name. Simpson's commitment
to Clemson. You know, when he got the offer, he

(01:11:18):
was out of what Mallard Mallard Creek, I think high
school up in Charlotte in that area. And you know,
he was a great player at Clemson. But when he
got the offer, the thing that you know, surprised so

(01:11:39):
many people was how quickly he said yes right there
from Dabosween. He was so excited and it was one
of those viral moments for Clemson football. And then his
play certainly showcased exactly what Clemson wanted and really needed

(01:12:00):
at the linebacker spot. And two years ago his name
was called in the third round and a little bit
later than expected. You know, he's a fast guy, fast
four four three in the forty he put up two
hundred and twenty five pounds twenty five times. He's sixty two,

(01:12:21):
two hundred and thirty five pounds, and you know he's
still really trying to break through. But a great article
over on the website Clemson Sports dot Com right now,
And of course it was a year ago that the
Baltimore Ravens drafted Nate Wiggins and Trenton Simpson was the

(01:12:48):
guy that met him back in the day at the
gate again tonight, Barrett Carter Jake Brenning Stool would be
the two guys that I would think will likely go
the earliest. I think RJ. Mickens would be next up

(01:13:09):
on that list, and then from there, I don't know.
I think those are the only three that would get drafted.
But could the Ravens take their third tiger in a
row with one of these guys at some point along
the way. But the good story there from tyras ingram

(01:13:30):
over on Clemsonsports Talk dot com. And you know, I
was thinking, we didn't get Tim Bray on the show
today and I'm assuming, let me see what what PGA
Tour Golf event is going on. But I did realize
that I didn't sing for you out of the gates

(01:13:53):
here in our number two, so I probably should do that.
Don't forget the show The Shakesta Southae and brought to
you in part by friends over at Met's plumb in
seven three two Drip drip, drip, drip, you know the
jingle seventh three to two drip, that's Mett's plumbing. So
the Zurich Classic of New Orleans is taking place in Avondale,

(01:14:17):
Louisiana right now. My hunch is Timbrey is perched up
in a booth somewhere crunching stats. This is a part
of NBC Golf, which makes me think even more so
that Tim Bearey is there. So that's probably why we

(01:14:41):
were unable to get up with him earlier today on
the program. But that's okay, I'm I'm, I'll be honest.
You know, for a guy that's retired, Timberray is really
not all that retired, is he. I mean, do you
all know is that like former Clemson sid Tim Beray

(01:15:05):
joins us. He was at Clemson for however many years
it was at the time, you know, started back in
seventy eight and was there until what twenty eighteen, right
like somewhere along in there, what's that forty years? Forty

(01:15:30):
years I guess, And Tim could correct me if he
wants to.

Speaker 3 (01:15:35):
It.

Speaker 2 (01:15:35):
It'd been okay to just hang it up, Tim, You
could have just sat around in the recliner. But oh no,
still calling still you know, still calling Clemson football games,
still calling Clemson basketball games. Traveled around doing NBC Golf

(01:16:01):
as one of their statisticians. What a guy man, and
the stories that he shares on this program from time
to time mind blowing, mind blowing. I'll tell you this, though,
I was watching some of that Zurich Classic, and I

(01:16:23):
didn't watch any of the Heritage last weekend, but it
is a far cry from the pack crowds and everything
that you see at the Heritage and certainly at the Masters.
You know, at the Masters, I'm constantly flabbergasted how these

(01:16:45):
guys can hit the ball off the tea box without
without drilling somebody that's standing in the front row for
about ninety yards down the fairway. And then I'm watching
the Zurich Classic, and I'm thinking to myself, what time
am I t in off? Because there is hardly a
there's there's neary a fan to be seen. I mean literally,

(01:17:12):
double ow will give me a lot of grief about
my math. Double Oh. There's so few fans watching this
golf tournament. I could do this segment and count them
like that. That's that's how few fans it appears are
at the Zurich Classic for the first round. All right,
we'll hit a quick break, we'll come at we'll put

(01:17:33):
a ball on the show after this. Stay with us.

Speaker 3 (01:17:38):
What have you done for me lately? It's a fair question.
Just don't lose sight of the bigger picture. Don't forget history.
Lucky for us at Clemson, the answer to the questions
what have you done for me lately?

Speaker 2 (01:17:56):
What have you done? Always are the same. We win

(01:18:51):
final segment on a Thursday afternoon clemsones Sports One former
Clemson Tiger basketball player, former player over at Cardlin Newman,
Josh Beetle, had transferred from Clemson to Boston College. He
went back in the portal and he has committed to

(01:19:11):
play a little closer to home. He'll be at Coastal Carolina.
Beatle did not do much during his tenure at Clemson
or at Boston College as a matter of As a
matter of fact, last year, for over the past two years,
he averaged just two point six points per game and
one rebound per contest, playing about twelve minutes, so not

(01:19:37):
exactly putting up elite level numbers. Is the former Cardinal
Newman star Josh Beatle again in the NFL Draft coming
up tonight. For the first time since two thousand and ten,

(01:19:57):
Clemson will not have a player drafted likely drafted in
the first three rounds. The last time that didn't happen
was oh Nan. So I just I don't see it.
I don't see it now. We talked about Clemson in

(01:20:19):
Georgia and the ballgame on Tuesday. In fact, you know,
it's an impressive win for Clemson. Certainly Georgia probably deserved
to be lower than number five, but it made it
a top five matchup. I saw a tweet from a
guy called the Doctor, the Doctor Pepper Tiger. He said,

(01:20:43):
here's a proposal. How about Clemson versus Georgia. One game
in Clemson, a weekend series, one game in Clemson, one
game in Athens, in one game at the Brave Stadium
in Atlanta. And I gotta tell you, I think this
is genius. Hear me out. Clemson of South Carolina have

(01:21:08):
a really nice college baseball rivalry. I like the transition
around the state. I do like it. You know, the
venues could certainly change a little bit, and we've talked
about that, and we've also talked about maybe what it
would be like if they would do two three games
stand home stand, you know, two to three game series,
and that's tough. That's six games out of the schedule.

(01:21:30):
That's tough to do three in Columbia three and Clemson,
that's tough. But I really like the concept of the
Georgia matchup in that regard if you always did it
in that exact order, because I feel like it flows.

(01:21:56):
So you go from Clemson, Georgia fans could come over
if they want to stay night or whatever, or drive
back that's fine. The next day, Clemson fans drive to Athens.
Choose to stay of the night, that's great, or go
on and venture into Atlanta and prepare for the next day.
Like to me, the now, if you do it the

(01:22:17):
other way, if you start the series in Athens, then
Clemson fans have to make their way to Athens. Then
everybody has to make their way to Clemson, and then
all the way back to Atlanta. I just think the
other way makes a little more sense. It certainly gives
Clemson fans a longer drive home after that third game.
But I think Doctor Pepper Tiger nails it. I think

(01:22:40):
the sequence of that with it always starting in Clemson
the mid game, always being in Georgia, in the final game,
always being in Atlanta. I think that would be awesome.
I like the idea of Dr Pepper. A matter of fact,
did I retweet that? I did not, But I'm going
to now as matter of fact, the doctor you're getting

(01:23:02):
a follow back, bingo. I like that. Let me know
what you think. Texas eight oh three four five zero
zero eighty six text line and phone line. All right,
final thing. We talked a lot about Nico Io Maliava
with his transfer from Tennessee to UCLA becoming official. Well,

(01:23:24):
his brother, man it excuse me, Madden Io Maliava will
follow Nico to UCLA. Madden is a quarterback. He was
at Arkansas. So the brothers Io Maliava are gonna play
together collegiately out West, at least for a year. At

(01:23:45):
least at least for a year. Now. One other thing
about Nico and I have joked here about his name
looking like I am Aliva, and it does. I'm Aliva,
That's the way his name looks, but it's Io Maliava.
And I can't tell you how many people have mispronounced

(01:24:08):
that dude's name. And I can't believe. I can't believe
how many people still mispronounced dj Uyungala Lay's name. It's just,
you know what, if you hear somebody mispronounce the names
of these guys when the stories are this big, where
their names are readily available, sloppy work. That's sloppy work.

(01:24:31):
I listen. I've mispronounced guy's names before, no doubt, But
when his name is smattered everywhere and the pronunciation is available,
use it. All right, We'll be back tomorrow. Timper Ray
will join the show tomorrow. I did find that out.
Until then, As always, y'all take care now and go Tigers.
