Speaker 1 (00:00):
So we're off to a wet start here on a Tuesday,
and that has led to, at least as of right now,
one traffic situation you should be advised of. So I
sixty four east at the Cochrane Tunnel, you've got an
accident that has caused the right lane and the right
shoulder to be blocked. So that looks like the only
major issue we're dealing with right now, but again, that
(00:20):
could always change any moment, so we'll keep you updated
throughout the morning. Your next update coming up in just
a few minutes. It is Coffee and Company and we

(00:41):
All right, So this story is starting to get a
lot of attention nationally, but it's starting to lose its,
I guess mystery element, because I think there's some understandable
connecting of dots as far as what happened to this individual.
But there's a high school football coach who's gone missing,
and his disappearance initially seemed very unusual because he's from
(01:04):
a small Virginia town and he's a high school football
coach with an undefeated team. They have not lost a
game yet this year. And it's a union high school
and the head coach's name is Travis Turner, and last
week he vanished. His wife has been pleading for prayers.
Police are searching for him, and it's become again a
(01:25):
situation that's got a lot of attention. So his wife,
she has since deleted a Facebook post and she told
supporters as a Friday night in the now deleted post quote,
Travis is missing and that's all we know. She think
the community for the support, begged people to keep praying
and hope that he comes home. So the timeline of
the disappearance is this. He was last seen Thursday, and
then by Sunday, Virginia State Police officially listed him as
(01:47):
a missing person. So officers were dispatched to his home
Thursday night to investigate a complaint not to take him
into custody. When they are he was already gone. So
the nature of the complaint has yet to be disclosed,
so he's also under investigation by the school district. So
(02:12):
the same day he disappeared, Wise County Public Schools announced
an employee had been placed on paid administrative leave pending
an external investigation. Now that school district is not confirmed
if he is that employee or whether the two situations
are connected, but that would be a big coincidence, right,
So he's got a investigation within his within his employer
(02:36):
at the school. And then also police were called those homes.
So keep in mind when they came, it wasn't to
arrest him. They want that to be clear. They were
not coming to actually he's not he's not currently facing
charges to where they were going to come and arrest him,
but they're investigating something. And when they showed up, he
was already gone, so he was missing. Where's he at?
Or maybe he knew that that it was about to
(02:58):
hit the fan, if you will, and that's why he
took off. That would explain it, because you know, anything
can happen, right, You can get you can get abducted.
I mean, look, there's when somebody that's one of the
that's one of the things that I sometimes just get
too deep into and I waste a lot of time
we're looking into it because missing people. It's fascinating to
me how people can just all of a sudden vanish. Right.
(03:19):
There's this show that I love, but also then I
realized I hated it. It's called Disappeared. It's on Investigation Discovery,
and it's really well done, and it's about people who vanished.
They disappear, hence the name. But more often than not,
you're just angry after you watch it because you're thinking,
what the hell happened to that guy? What the hell
happened to that girl? And you just never know, so
(03:39):
it can happen. But with this, I think it's starting
to look as if he was aware of of of
getting in trouble and he just ran. So it's it's
getting not just I mean, it's getting national attention. I
think it was discussed yesterday on I always forget the
name of the show, but it's the national round table
talk show that is on CBS right after the Woky newscast,
(04:04):
and that's where I first saw the headline, and then
I looked into it and didn't take long for me
to uh to see that it had gotten a lot
of attention. So uh, here's here's a little more information
about his his disappearance. So it looks like he was Yeah,
so this is from this is from Friday night. So
(04:26):
radio communications and statements from numerous individuals in Wise County
claimed a male subject armed with a seven millimeter magnum
rifle fled into the woods near Appalasia early Thursday, and
that was the morning, and that multiple people civilians were
searching for the individual. Officers responding to an unrelated minor
vehicle incident stumbled upon civilians in the woods searching for
the subject. And they've those people, I guess police officials
(04:51):
and and those in the investigation. They've not publicly said
it was him, but just people in the community. They
they're claiming, yeah, this guy that that the morning of
where he was later determined to be missing that night,
that morning they saw somebody running with a rifle into
the woods. And these individuals, I guess, just citizens of
that community. They're telling people, yeah, it was him. And look,
(05:13):
if you were the high school football coach in the
community that's pretty small, I would say you're going to
be a little more recognizable than than than the average
Joe so wouldn't be shocked if the update that we
get is what a lot of people are assuming is
happening here, something that he's going to have to pay
the consequences for, and he decided to run. But we'll
(05:36):
see maybe that's not the case. All right, Let's get
to a quick time out trafficking weather updates on the way.
Stick with us. Thanksgiving just in a couple of days,
and I've got some more things to discuss as far
as just how people are experiencing how they're expected to
have Thanksgiving this year, because I don't feel as bad
about not having my typical Thanksgiving routine because more than
(05:59):
half of Americans are going to use a restaurant for
Thanksgiving dinner. That surprises me. But again, now I don't
feel as bad. All right, stick around right here. It's
news Radio eight forty whas. So we've got a new
pop Menu survey that shows nearly sixty percent of people
planning to spend less on Thanksgiving dinner and more than
half are outsourcing the whole meal to restaurants. So I
(06:21):
don't know, we really don't have a whole lot going
on on our end. And to be clear, I'm I'm
going to have many Thanksgiving celebrations. Have already had one
with I've already had one family get together. I've got
a couple more. It's just we're not doing it on
the day of Thanksgiving, which is which is the first
for me. So I hope you can sense the sarcasm
whenever I lay out the poor me, because I'm doing
(06:43):
okay and I have a lot to be thankful for.
And I guess somebody who's listening has let my mom
know that I've been I've been mentioning it here and there,
and now I think I've actually got her feeling bad.
And I didn't want to do that, but you know,
I guess it backfired on me. So I let her
know it's okay. I hope she has a Thanksgiving. It'll
just be the first time in my life thirty seven years,
first time she won't be with me. So again, it's
(07:06):
I'm not bothered by it, it's just, you know, just
the first time for me. So anyways, I don't know
if I'm gonna end up getting a meal at a restaurant,
but I might. I mean, I'm gonna be at Churchill Downs.
That's gonna be fun. Maybe we get something to eat there,
or maybe we hit up one of these restaurants that
is in fact going to be open, Because this is
a list that is has been provided by the Courier Journal.
We've got these restaurants that are going to be open
(07:27):
on Thanksgiving. Bob Evans, Bristol Bar and Grill, the Brown Hotel,
The Capitol Grill, Captain's Quarters, Churchill Downs Thanksgiving of course,
Claudia Sanders Dinner House, Cracker Barrel High Steaks, Rooftop Grill, Huber's,
Morton's Steakhouse, Proof on Maine, Ruth Chris and Walker's Exchange.
(07:47):
So those are the options here here locally, and none
of them really seem to be, you know, all that
appealing to me. Not because they don't have great food,
it's just, you know, I'm not exactly looking to go
to Ruth Chris Steak House with a family of four
on Thanksgiving Day, But hey, I guess you could. You
could experience Thanksgiving in a worse way.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
Well, you know, if you're going to bob Evans, you're
getting that whole hog, Oh, the whole hog.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
Baby a lot to be thankful for, including the bob
Evans whole Hall. That's right, it's got to be like
a bunch of meat breakfast meats. Which when's the last
time you had Bob Evans. It's a good question. It's
probably been over a year, so there's nobody. Nobody's paying
me to say this. I'm not partnering with Bob Evans
by any means, but I will say they I think
(08:29):
they're like very underrated.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
You know, when I was a kid, we went there
almost every Sunday, but that's not no longer the case.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
If I am, like, if I'm picking the chain breakfast
sit downs, I would pick theirs in a heartbeat. And
it's not really against the others. It's just I don't know.
I think they do a really good job with breakfast food,
which you know, a lot of a lot of places do.
I mean, is it a coincidence that Cracker Barrel had
to start selling booze and then they had a huge
(08:57):
goof on their end where they just decided to re
brand and then it backfired. I mean, they could just
be feeling the pressure from Bob Evans. You know, maybe
they're making these moves because they know Bob Evans is
on their heels, which, by the way, I'm not joking
Crocker Bill Sales boos. I don't know people knew that
or not. You can get it. You can get a
ma most so you can get you a cold beer,
and you know, go play checkers and you know what
(09:18):
are those games where you pick up those those little sticks,
that tabletopal triangle peg thing? Yeah, my kids love those.
All right, let's get to a quick time out traving.
Weather updates are on the way. We've also got another
sports update coming up Governor's Cup weeks here, but man,
it doesn't feel like it. I'm sure by Saturday that'll change.
But anyways, hang out right here with us. It's News
Radio eight forty whas. Thank you very much, John. I
(09:43):
did like to hear Jeff Brahms say that we're just
gonna and I'm paraphrasing a little bit here, but just
doll it up and let them go make plays. That's
that's what I hope to see. As far as play calling,
now again, you probably don't want to be calling plays
as if you have your weapons out there like a
Chris Bell, who's really been and one of the best
receivers in the country this year, but he got hurt
in that SMU game, tried to come back, give it
(10:05):
a go and did, but just not. He's not well.
And I understand why there are some that think, Okay, well,
these guys are just quitting their opting out because that
has happened before. But the I mean two things, the
running back situation. These guys have been hurt all year.
I mean, that's just been an issue that unfortunately has
has I mean, the injury bug bit him in a
big way at a position that thankfully they do have
(10:26):
a lot of depth. Meaning when you lost Isaac Brown,
you could go to a key one Brown and then
you couldn't because he got hurt. Same thing with Duke Watson,
who's been really banged up here and there all year.
But Chris Bell, I mean, I think you guys saw
he got injured. Now he did come back, but didn't
do much after that, and I think that is I
guess led to some thinking, well, he's he's just you know,
he's he's gonna go ahead and just move on and quit. Well,
(10:49):
I don't know Chris Bell personally, but I know enough
about him to know that he's the guy who would
want to beat Kentucky more than maybe anybody on this
roster because he's been here long enough, he went through
the uh you know, he's early the early years of
his career were that was when Louisville wasn't able to
get over the hump and get a win. So it
feels foolish even needing to say this. But guys that
(11:11):
are not playing because they're injured. They're injured. It's not
like they're opting out and quitting. But anyways, gonna be
without some big time weapons, and that's going to make things.
It just made it weird at this point because when
this thing kicks off on Saturday, both fan bases are
going to be locked in and of course just hope
you win because you want to beat your rival, but
what it does for your season from the Louisville side,
(11:34):
I only speak for myself, but I am a Louisville fan.
I don't think I'm going to really view the season
a whole lot differently than I do right now. Eight
and four is better than seven and five, But overall,
this is going to for me feel like a season
of missed opportunities in a big way, coming off of
a year where you could say the same thing that
you've missed out on some opportunities if you didn't slip up,
if you just played clean football and took care of business.
(11:57):
It's not like anybody's asking the team to be per
So a loss it makes things a little worse, but
overall like it's not as if it's gonna put, you know,
pressure on Jeff Brohm to where he's gonna have to
fight to keep his job. That's that's that's not that's
not reality. Now on the Kentucky side, not a Kentucky fan,
so I'm sure they want to beat Louisville's brains in
(12:19):
because that's just how it works in the rivalry. But
if you are somebody that believes there's still a chance
that Mark Pope or not Mark Pope, Mark Stoops could
be gone after this year, a win against Louisville to
get them to six and six in a bowl game,
wouldn't that completely Wouldn't that completely remove any potential chance
(12:43):
of him moving on or Kentucky, I should say, moving
on from him. So that's where it's tricky, But I
would I would tell you this if you're a Kentucky fan,
I'm sure you don't want to take my advice. I
just if you, if you think that they're going to
move on from from Mark Stoops. I just think you're
you know, I think you're you're wrong. Now again, I
don't have any inside information, but I feel like right
(13:05):
now at five and six, let's say they finished five
and seven, that's what I call no man's land because
it's it's it's an improvement from a year ago. It's
certainly not a good season, but you know, is it
is it fireable to where you move on from a
guy who has really done a lot for your program
(13:25):
overall and has had probably the best run as far
as sustained success at Kentucky football. Now, with all that said,
that run is over and that that's where I you know,
to me, if I was a Kentucky fan, I would
probably appreciate Stoops in a big way to where I would,
you know, always think of him as the guy who
who really showed the fan base that you know, you
(13:47):
can win at a level here that hadn't been done
before as far as consistently. But also like the ending
is like, what what's the ceiling for Kentucky football under
Mark Stoops? Moving forward? Because since the new era has arrived,
that's when things have kind of fallen apart, right, I
mean he entered the fourth quarter in year thirteen down
(14:08):
forty five to three to Vanderbilt. And Clark Lee's been
at Vandy building that thing a lot less time than
Stoops has been at Kentucky. So the scenario where Stoops
can get it rolling and get you doing things that
Vandy are doing, or maybe even doing things Indiana's doing,
I just don't see that as a realistic thing. So yeah,
(14:30):
I would just be ready for it to be over,
not from a nasty level, but just like, hey, look,
it's right, it's course. You know this thing is We've
exhausted this entire relationship, and there's been some lows, some highs,
and I mean, but who's gonna pay for it? Right,
Who's gonna pay the amount of money it would take
(14:51):
to get rid of Mark Stoops? That's what it really
comes down to. And there's been some talk about the
future of Mitch Barnhardt. Would he be there next year?
So if you know you're on your way out, are
you going to make a change to the staff to
where you're going to go hire a guy that you
wouldn't necessarily be his boss? And who would take the
(15:12):
job knowing that you don't know who your boss is
going to be so tricky situation overall in Lexington. But
I think that regardless of what happens on Saturday, I
think Stoops comes back for Kentucky. All right, let's get
to a quick time out what I want to get to.
On the other side, we've got I think one of
the more popular musicians currently in the world. He's bringing
his tour to L and N Stadium in April. We'll
(15:33):
talk about that also. We also something I want to
take a look at is just the cost of these tickets.
We talked about these new work zone speed cameras, right,
and they weren't lying when they told you that if
you get a ticket via their camera system, it's going
to cost you big. So again, stick around. We got
a lot more to get into right here at news
Radio eight forty Whas one of the biggest names in
(15:58):
music and a recent Bourbon and Beyond headliner, is coming
back to Louisville. But this time he'll be at L
and N Cardinals Stadium and that thing's gonna sell out, right,
I mean, this guy, he's in that. I think there's
a when it comes to current active musicians, and I
don't mean you know again keyword there's active people who
(16:19):
are currently still touring, making new albums, that kind of stuff.
I think there are three that any stadium in America
certainly if they plan a show and tickets are available,
they will not be available for long because there's just
such a high demand for people to go see these
these people live Taylor Swift, Zach Bryan, and Morgan Wallen.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
I think that's a very solid top three. It's not
necessarily an opinion of how they are as musicians, but
in popularity.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
For he's not his mainstream, but I kind of want
to put Luke Colmbs in there because there is data
that suggests, I mean, he's he's gonna have a I mean,
you're gonna have a tough time getting a ticket if
he's playing anywhere. But again, I just don't see him
as as much mainstream of Last night on the Manning
Cast during Winning of Football, he was the he was
the guest. So I'd say that's pretty telling as far
(17:06):
as just you know, uh, where you are when it
comes to you know, popularity, So, uh, Zac Bryan is
not my cup of tea, but hey, I'm in the
minority because you could tell him headlining the Bourbon Beyond Festival,
not this past year, but the year before. I mean,
he was one of the big factors in why you
(17:26):
saw their record crowd that they had that Saturday night.
I believe it was I might have been Sunday night.
Either way. You know, he's he's He's got a lot
of fans, and there'll be people that that try Like
if Louisville is the closest destination if you live, you
know in the region, people will try to get here
to get a ticket because that's just the demand that
you have for him. So I'm not sure what the
U of L component is here, but you they're the
(17:46):
ones who announced it, the U of L Athletics department,
because they're gonna be sconcerts going to be taking place
in their football stadium. But his Heaven with Heaven on Tour,
I guess that's what it's called.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
With with Heaven on Earth but Heaven on I don't know.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
Here you go, but the lineup is crazy. He also
has Kings of Leon and somebody named J. R. Carroll
who I'm not super familiar with but certainly popular. So
Louis is gonna be one of the stops pre sale
registration bench can already sign up for pre sale access now,
and you know, good luck, because you're gonna need it,
I think, to get tickets. So sixty thousand is what
(18:21):
LL and M holds around sixty thousand, and the last
major concert they had was Beyonce in twenty twenty three,
so there's not a whole You don't often see concerts
at that stadium, but when they do, it's usually a
pretty big act. I think you two played there within
the last decade or so. I remember that just because
it was apparently such a traffic nightmare. And then years back,
(18:42):
I mean long, long ago, there was a big time
country concert that almost almost like seemed like a music festival.
It was probably a tour.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
But you know, Kenny Chesney played at Ellen Stadium several
times too.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
I feel like, well, that's what I'm talking about, But
I don't know if he's been there several times, but
and maybe he has, but he came in with Montgomery Gentry.
This was probably I don't know, two thousand and eight,
two thousand and nine, something like that, and that's that's
the only concert I've been there, And I remember and
I remember thinking, you know, they've got more They've got
more space here than you do obviously at the Young
(19:14):
and Freedom all but again, obviously you need an act
like this in order to fill it because you know
it's tough. I mean, there's a lot of really popular
musicians that if they set up a show there, you'd
be surprised probably just how how tough it would be
to fill it compared to what we've got now here
with artists like Zach Bryan. I mean, touring is where
(19:34):
you're making generational wealth as an artist right now in
the industry, and the money Zach Bryan, Morgan Wallen, obviously
Taylor Swift are making. It's it's insane in congrats to
them because you know they're doing well. I just I
kind of I got a little fomo because I have
a lot of friends, my wife even who's like, you know,
(19:55):
we we actually can't go because it's when we were
coming back from spring break. But I know a lot
of people that want to go, and I get it. It
would would probably have fun just because I'd be at
a concert with friends and enjoying myself. And I don't
dislike the guy. It's just I can't get into him.
I tried. I just can't do it. Yeah, I just
can't do it.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
I feel like I'm missing out on what the hype
is with him. He's really sad, that's right. I mean
people like sad music, I guess.
Speaker 1 (20:18):
And this is such a this is like low hanging fruit,
because this is what oftentimes people say about artists or
bands that they just can't really get into. But it's
the truth. With for my from my stance, a lot
of his stuff sounds exactly the same. Yeah, and just
that just you know, to me, it makes it seem
whatever to me. But again, I'm in the minority because
he's very, very popular. All right, let's get a time
out traggicking weather updates on the way. We've got a
(20:40):
sports update coming up to right here at news Radio
eight forty whas
