Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning. It is news Radio eight forty whas coffee
and company with you. I am Nick Coffee and I
am fueled by Thornton's. I hope you knew that. If not,
now you do. And you also should know that you
can save money every time you fill up at Thornton's.
And any savings right now I'm sure has appreciated given
the cost of gas. So you can save every time
you fill up, including up to twenty cents off per gallon,

(00:23):
once per week if you're a member of the Refreshment
Awards program. So it's very easy to sign up. It's
free to do. I think you'll be happy that you did.
Not only do you get the benefit of saving some
money at the gas pump, but you get to take
advantage of some cool offers, including one that I took
advantage of this morning. If you get four of the
Monster Energy drinks, you can get them for eight bucks,

(00:44):
so just two bucks apiece, which that's pretty cheap if
you look at prices elsewhere. So again one of the
many perks you get by being a member of the
Refreshment Awards program. Real quick, since we're talking about gas prices,
this is an update. This is as of yesterday, so
it's probably changed even since then as price continue to climb.
But here's a look at gas prices in January of

(01:05):
twenty twenty five, so that's before there was a change
in leadership. Three dollars and ten cents, So you go
a year later January of this year, two dollars and
eighty one cents was the price. So that was the
lowest price since March of twenty twenty one. That's where
we were just two months ago. Less than that really,

(01:30):
So gas prices as of yesterday the average is three
dollars and forty eight cents, So that's the highest that
it's been since. I guess it did get up in
August to twenty twenty four, It got up to right
around there. So not going to change anytime soon, so
just be advised. Have you noticed, John, have you filled
up since the prices have jumped dramatically?

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Here?

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:50):
I filled up both my car and my wife's vehicle,
and I feel like the both times where I put
gas in the car, it was about a fifteen cent
difference for me and then again fifteen more sense for
her vehicle.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
So like when you see the price at the end,
like what give me on a scale of one to ten,
as far as ten being like the biggest shock, Like, wow,
that's a lot more expensive because you know, I don't
pay a ton of attention to it, and you seem
to be someone that does. I just think eventually, if
this doesn't change, you're going to feel it to where
you realize, Okay, I need to be mindful. Yeah, I
mean you need gas. You have to get it. It's
not like you're gonna go without it. But people may

(02:22):
be mindful of when they drive places because of this, Right.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
I fall somewhere within, you know. An eight and nine
is how shocked I was initially. But when it really
starts to make me, you know, think it's time to
budget gas is when it starts costing over fifty bucks
for an entire tank fill up, which is insane to me.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Yeah, I mean if it keeps rising, we may we
may be there, right, I mean I hope not. Now.
You you still get pretty good gas mileage in the Toyota, right.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
It's a two thousand and two. It's not the best,
and when it comes to you know, Toyotas that get
gas mileage, but it's still a Toyota camera even though
it is nearly twenty five years old in it it's
still it still puts around.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
All right.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Well, it's funny because I could be wrong, and you
were five years old at the time this car was
was brand new. But I feel like gas mileage even
then was view. I mean, like, now, whatever it does
as far as gas milage is probably not terrible, but
certainly not.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Oh it does, it does perfectly fine. It holds its own.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
But but I bet back then, like you know, because
that was that was the real.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Deal fuel economy type vehicle.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
Yes, exactly. So yeah for me, and I'm a weirdo
where I I if I'm not, it's just my impa.
I'm impatient in life. So if I'm at the pump
and I'm standing there the whole time, like I won't
wait for it to fill all the way up, Like
if I can get it to stop, like near thirty
five or something, then I'll just like all right, you know,
bell be close enough. And then but if I go inside,

(03:45):
I just leave it on and it fills up and
then I come out and you know, I'm good to go.
So I I I do pay attention to how much
it costs. But I'll tell you what what really stood
out to me. And again, I try to be careful
about how this appears, because I don't want to ever
could seem as if well, I don't even care about
when anything costs. I got so much money. It's not
that at all. It's just it's one of those things
I know that I'm going to get, and I know

(04:06):
there's a ballpark cost that I just it would take
something being really sort of out of the norm for
me to notice if it's really expensive or if it's
really cheap. But I did, even earlier this year fill
up and think like, man, I don't know if I
have I mean, that makes sense because if you look
at the prices here the you know, in January that

(04:27):
was the lowest we had as far as gas prices
since twenty twenty one. Well, I got my car in
twenty twenty one, and I remember when I filled up
two months ago, thinking to myself, I've never filled up
my tank for this cheap. So it was nice while
it lasted. Hopefully we get back there. And Trump did
say four to five weeks was sort of the ballpark

(04:47):
time frame that he put out there. As far as
this situation in Iran operation? What does it always get
it wrong? Epic fury? Yeah, Operation epic Fury. That is
what they're calling it. And four to five weeks is
what he said, I think initially, and then when asked
yesterday did say it wouldn't be ended this week, which
I think that was the direct question that was asked.

(05:08):
And here is here's what President Trump had to say
on Iran.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
You called it an excursion. You said it would be
over soon. Are you thinking this week?

Speaker 1 (05:17):
It will be over some days? I think so, okay,
and with respect very soon.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Look, everything they have is gone, including their leadership. In fact,
there are two levels of leadership and even actually, as
it turns out, more than that, but two levels of
leadership are gone. Most people have never even heard about
the leaders that they're talking about. So it's obviously been
very very powerful, very effective.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
So not this week, but but soon, I guess. I
suppose that's that's promising, all right. So Trump will be
in Kentucky tomorrow. He's going to speak in Northern Kentucky
at the Verse Logistics Contract Packaging facility that is in Hebron, Kentucky.
And it's going to be at one to one pm
in The event is open to the public, but if

(06:02):
you're going to attend, you must register in advance. So
I'm sure there's many that will try to attend for
a variety of reasons. But yeah, it's gonna be in hebren, Kentucky,
which again is right there, just minutes from the Cincinnati
Northern Kentucky International Airport. So yeah, you've got to register
ahead of time. I suppose you do that online, but yeah,

(06:25):
I'm trying to see if I can find a link
for you if you want to check it out. But
I'm sure it'd be easy to find. That's that's you know,
that's the power of the World Wide Web. All right.
So we are just a day away from the local
teams getting it started in conference tournament play. Does Indiana
play Wednesday or Thursday? Sure, they're Wednesday at six thirty.
Oh okay, So tomorrow both Louisville and Kentucky will get

(06:46):
started in in conference play. As far as conference tournament play,
and I do think both teams have had somewhat similar seasons,
meaning expectations did not get met. I think for Kentucky
you'd say expectations in a bigger way, didn't, you know,
didn't get met And also for Louisville, you can at

(07:08):
least throw out the injury to mckel brown junior as
a factor, but a big picture, even with mckel brown junior,
you didn't have probably the season that you expected, but
you're still in the tournament safely, And we all know
how it works. If you go on a run, any concern,
any belly aching that you did during the regular season,
it's all out the window, because really all that matters
is what you do in March. That's what makes college

(07:29):
basketball just you know. I mean again, every sport postseason play,
winning tournament games, potentially winning championships, that's what people care about.
But in college basketball, man, the ride, the joy, you
get the longevity of a run, right Like, if you're
going deep in the tournament, you're extending your season by weeks.
So again, it's one of those things we say often

(07:50):
in sports that only matters what you do in the postseason. Well, again,
that's every season, right, I Mean, you can have a
great regular season, but if you lose in the first
round of the NFL playoffs, you're gonna feel like you fail.
But in college basketball, I think it's the magical March
runs that just simply array. There's so much joy that
comes with it because it's such a special event, and
around here we care about college shoops so much that

(08:12):
joy just overwhelmingly takes over where you don't look back
and dwell on seasons that you know that were For example,
I mean when Louisville I think it was in the
year that they played Morehead State and lost big upset,
the biggest upset Loival has been on the wrong side
of in the tournament for sure, one of the bigger

(08:32):
upsets that year in the tournament it was a four
and a thirteen, which I still can't believe. Morehead State
got a thirteen with Kenneth for Reed, who was the
most dominant big in college basketball that year. But nonetheless,
Louisville had a fun year. That was the Yearic Patino
called it the Bridge year, and expectations were surprisingly low
because that was just not a thing for Patino at
the time, and that group ended up overachieving, ended up

(08:56):
having a good run all the way to the championship
game of the Big East Tournament before losing to Kimba.
Walker and Yukon had a lot of momentum and sure enough,
you lost in the first round of the tournament, And
I mean that was a fun season because I think
success is more enjoyable when it wasn't expected. I think
that's just the human element, how we're wired to take

(09:19):
in success. So it was actually a really rarely fun
year to where little things that you used to just
expect felt a little better because you didn't know if
it was going to happen. And then to lose like that, man,
that was brutal. And Kentucky fans know how that feels
because they have had it happen twice in the last
five years. I mean, the two biggest upsets that's gone

(09:40):
against them in the tournament easily are the two that
happened in recent years, right, Saint Peter's and Oakland. So
I think when I say that they've had similar regular seasons,
it can all be washed away as far as the
disappointment that you have if you go on a run,

(10:02):
and technically I guess that all starts tomorrow, right, I mean,
it's not the NAA Tournament, but you can certainly improve
your resume, build some momentum, and it'll be Kentucky taken
on LSU and Louisville will be taking on the winner
of SMU and Syracuse, who will play later today. All right,
if you're looking to put your home on the market,
but you've said, yeah, I don't know if anybody would

(10:23):
buy my home because it's appraised for an insane number
and it just doesn't seem realistic. Did they know what
I what I paid for it many years ago? Well,
none of that matters. All the matters is that you
find the right person to put your home in front
of the right buyers that would see your home as
their potential dream home. And that's my friend Bob's sicoler
with a secolar team at simpler Dot real Estate, Bob

(10:44):
can explain it to you. He has no problem doing that.
Give him a call any time. His numbers five O
two three seven six five four eight three again five
O two three seven six five four eight three. You
may think this is too good to be true, but
it's not. He'll buy your home from you if he
doesn't get it sold in a matter of fifty nine days.
So again, if you don't believe it, call him. He'll
explain it to you. He'll tell you how it works.
He'll put you at ease, and you'll be I think

(11:07):
feeling pretty good about that decision to give him a
call and let him help you with this process. Right
right now, you hear things about the market and how
it's it's just tough for buyers out there, and it
is right that data is real, but there's a lot
more to it, and data doesn't tell the whole story.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
Right.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
If you've got the right person that can market your
home in the right way to the right people, that's
all that matters. And unless I check, you'll only need
one person to buy your home. Right. So, Bob's been
doing this a long time and he'd be happy to
help you, and I'm happy to tell you all about
him again. It's Bob Sicolar, but the Secolar team, it's
simpler out real estate. You can check them out online
and we sell Louisville dot com. Or give Bob a
call directly at Babo too. Three seven six five four

(11:46):
eight three All right, quick time out. Traffic and weather
updates are on the way. Also we'll get to some
sports as well. It's right right here. It's a news
RADU eight forty whas all right segment here on a
Tuesday morning before the fellas Tony into White takeover you
know what I'm bringing back, Tony, I'm bringing back to
machine Tuesday. Oh are you ready for it? Okay?

Speaker 4 (12:05):
I thought you were going to bring back a phrase
like I want to bring back clac a lacin, clac
a lacin?

Speaker 1 (12:10):
Did that go? Did that die?

Speaker 4 (12:11):
And nobody told me it's a Gascar phrase it Yeah, yeah, yeah,
it's a Chris.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
Rock So is it clack a lacin? Like, what's clack
alacin crack? Okay, I'm here for it. If it did
go away, like he said, we're bringing it back, bringing
it back, all right. So in nineteen ninety seven, March
of nineteen ninety seven, do you know what took place?

Speaker 2 (12:30):
Wow?

Speaker 1 (12:31):
You want to know?

Speaker 4 (12:31):
You go?

Speaker 1 (12:32):
Oh go one of the I have so excited to
tell you one of the worst regional floods since nineteen
thirty s. Yes. Absolutely, And I was very young at
the time, but I do remember because we got out
of school for a long time when this took place,
and I remember being at home watching TV and just
seeing the live news coverage of everything they were showing
every neighborhood. It was cars and vehicles, I'm sorry, vehicles

(12:55):
and houses submerged in water, and I've never seen that before.

Speaker 4 (12:59):
Do you know what happened that weekend? Also, no Princess
Diana died in the car wreck, so everyone was stuck
at home because the rain was just insane, it really was.
And of course, back then, before they started to figure
out they put a billion dollars into the drainage systems,
Bullet County used to get smacked like it was the worst.
Bullet County got it worse than anybody, that's where it was.

(13:20):
So but it was the same weekend, so it was
like you were stuck at the house watching twenty four
hour coverage of what the heck happened to the princess?
Right she was with this Dody Faye ed fay ed guy,
Like what is she doing with that guy? In the
horrific way that she had died? And then of course
the rumors of the did the family have something to
do with it? And all that.

Speaker 1 (13:41):
Do you know why? I think this flood is kind
of a blur to me because I remember it, but
it doesn't stand out like the snowstorms. And it just
hit me that you would never know this. My mother
was a fanatic of Princess Diana. Oh really, I was
nine years old at the time, and my mom was
distraught when she died, and I I all loved her.

(14:01):
You know, you never want you never want to see
your parents, like I said, And I really hadn't at
that point. You know, I hadn't experienced the loss of
a grandparent yet what is happening? So and I just
I learned what like a celebrity death can do. I
still to this day when I think of a celebrity death,
I think of that one just because it was the
first one that I experienced and realized what he can
do to somebody. But that also maybe why I just
didn't remember the flood as much, because I was just
thinking about is Mama gonna be okay? Did she know her?

(14:23):
What's going on here?

Speaker 4 (14:24):
The third storyline was every staff on one hundred point
five of the Fox was about as crazy of a
station that I've ever seen in my life. And there's
always one out of control guy that you have to
have on the staff right to be willing to do anything.
His name was Bob o'reiley, and he drove a purple
probe and he tried. So we're watching coverage. The only

(14:46):
you know, how they have one piece of footage where
a car is in the water and they rerun that
forty seven times while they're talking about the Yeah it's correct.
Bob o'reiley tried to drive through it on the on
the expressway and got stuck. So I'm looking at this
and I go, how many purple Ford probes are there?
So I start calling and they're like, yeah, that's Bobo's car.

(15:07):
So Bobo Rally's car was on the news for an
entire weekend, you know, sideways on the expressway in five yeah.

Speaker 1 (15:17):
Yea, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that.

Speaker 4 (15:18):
Was the trains we how many people have of a
purple Ford probe? I mean, how the hell do you
even find a custom probe? Right, Like, how do you
look at that on a lot and go yep, that's it,
that's it. Where's keys clearly wanted to stand out get
the paperwork done.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
So the flood that took place ended up taking the
lives of I think it was in Kentucky a total
of eight people. Wow, that's how that's how that's how
bad it was. And again that's throughout just the entire
the entire state. But yeah, we had a flood last
year that of course led to us not having thunder
of a louisvill which was a big deal, and I
remember them referencing it was it.

Speaker 4 (15:51):
Was okay, it was a big one, but nothing like
nineteen ninety set. But those things have to happen for
legislation to go. We need to put money into the
drainage system in this town. They've spent a billion dollars
since then, and people don't realize the last couple of
floods we've had could have been much worse.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
Oh yeah, it was crazy. Yeah, good stuff. All right,
