(00:22):
looking forward to catching up with him. You can also
text end of the show if you'd like. That's another
way to communicate. You text everybody else, why not text
us five O two two three zero nine six one
zero again Fibo two two three zero nine six one zero.
That is the number. And we'd love to hear from
your questions, complaints, compliments, insults, whatever you've got, Feel free
to fire away. There would have been a lot of complaining,
(00:43):
probably some insults as well from the lunatic college basketball
fans around here. And I'm one of them. Not to
say that I would have done that, I don't know.
I can't. I can't put it past myself. But yesterday
would have been a bad day. Had the SEC tournament
run ended for Kentucky and the ACC tournament run ended
for Louisville, it wouldn't have been much of a run, right,
It would have been a show up to play a
(01:04):
game and then go home. But both survive in advance.
And look, we all know that it really really matters
next week when you get to the NCAA tournament, and
both these teams are safely going to be in the
Big Dance. But it's still postseason basketball around here, and
it's a big deal. I could just feel yesterday as
(01:24):
a day that a lot of folks had shifted attention
from I'm sure a lot of other things that maybe
they were supposed to be giving attention to, to keeping
up with what was going on with both teams, because
that's what we do around here. And yesterday was a
reminder for me that the joy of winning is just
(01:44):
not as strong as the agony of losing in those situations.
Because yesterday, for Louisville specifically, and for those who don't
know I am a Louisville fan, I mean, it looked
like the same kind of game they've lost all year,
and I don't mean they've lost every game this year,
but when they've lost, it's been in that fashion to
where it's tight and they just they aren't able to
really stay sharp on both ends of the floor and
(02:10):
get timely stops defensively, take advantage of opportunities to score.
And even yesterday they still won, but some of those
possessions late, I mean, I think you had two shot
clock violations in the final minutes, and it's just at
times I'm thinking, how's that happened? But hey, easy to
forget about in the moment, of course, whenever you find
a way to win, and that's what they did yesterday.
(02:31):
So for Louisville, they've now won two games in a
way that I don't think they've won at any point
until they just won these two. Miami and SMU were
games that you know, it was tight late and you
had you had to get the best of your opponent
in the final few possessions where you're gonna have to
find a way to score or get to the line
and you're gonna have to find a way to keep
(02:52):
your keep them from scoring. And they did exactly that.
So I guess if there's if there's a time to
start finding ways to win close games where you really
need just some true grit to get it done. I
guess no better time than now, whenever you've you've hit
the postseason. And no mckel brown, as obviously he's he's
still sidelined, not going to play maybe ever, maybe ever
(03:12):
again at Louisville. But the hope is that he will
be hopefully he'll be at one hundred percent or at
least close enough to one hundred percent to play next
week in the NCAA tournament. And I do think that's
the strategic move here as far as just making sure
he is at his at his not the best that
he can be, but at the best he could be
in given the situation, right. I mean, he was playing
(03:33):
not at one hundred percent in the last few weeks
before they sidelined him once again, and I think it
was just to say, hey, look long rest and that
way he can potentially be at you know, best case
scenarios that he's made some improvement and he can be
maybe not the mckail brown we saw earlier this year,
but just overall in better health. So again there's no
(03:55):
guarantee that he plays next week, but that is the expectation.
It sounds like and I will say I believe that
if if this was the tournament today, meaning the n
Double A tournament, I think he play. I really do.
I think it's just them being strategic and trying to,
you know, give them their best chance to make a
run in the tournament, and that the best chance to
do that is with a healthy top ten NBA draft pick.
(04:19):
Here is mckil brown in the locker room yesterday. This
is from our partners over there, wk Y.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
I'm just focusing right now. I'm just focused on my
rehab more than anything, and when when the times feel
is right, I'm gonna talk to the coaching staff and
you know we're gonna come to an agreement. You know,
obviously you know the back is really connected, connects your
whole body, so you know, it aggivates me throughout the day.
But other than like I said, I've been getting rehab
just slowly progressing. You know, it's taking other day at
(04:46):
a time.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
I've never dealt with a back injury, but I know
many that have, and it sounds like it's a real
nightmare because you can have any little thing that could
give you a setback, and it could just set it
could set you back for a long time. So again,
for Louisville's sake, here's still and he's going to be
able to make some real progress from now until next
week because next week it's it's winter or go home.
For Kentucky. They showed up and really did what they
(05:08):
were expected to do, beat a team that finished with
the sixteen seed in the SEC, and LSU hung around.
In fact, LSU I thought for who they were meaning
a team that finished sixteenth in the league, thought they
played pretty well. But Kentucky they got a big lift
from Brandon Garrison, and of course otega Oway was able
to do what he does, which is one of the
(05:29):
best players in the SEC. So they've now got a
chance today Kentucky does to beat a Missouri team that
is safely in the tournament, it seems, and would give
them another somewhat quality type win. So we're running in
back today Kentucky once again. At twelve thirty, they're taken
on Missouri, and then Louisville will play at two thirty,
taken on Miami for the second time in a matter
of five days. And if you're interested in point spreads
(05:51):
that kind of stuff. According to DraftKings. We've got Kentucky
as three and a half point favorites against the Missouri Tigers.
And then for Louis they are one and a half
point favorites against Miami, so expected to be close games
when it comes to odds makers. All Right, so this
is something that I never thought we'd bring it up
(06:12):
on the show, but sure enough now we can. So
the the Headliner's Music Hall. I'm sure many of you
have been to concerts over the years at Headliner's Music
Hall and you've probably noticed the wrecked plane that is
that is behind the building there, and uh, I can't
remember when it was, but I remember doing a deep
dive on this year's back because I was one of
(06:33):
those people that just assumed that was a real plane
that wrecked and it just they left it there, and
they left it there because it's a cool effect and
it stands out and sure enough, that's that's that's not
the case. However, the plane it took some damage yesterday
because with the wind and the storms, there was a
tree that that that that fell, and uh, I guess
(06:56):
they're going to try to salvage it as best they can.
But yeah, this is this is This is something that
I'm sure many people over the years have learned, Oh wait,
that's not a real plane crash. And maybe I'm you know,
don't answer this, but maybe I'm the idiot that just
would assume that could actually be realistic, but it is not.
But for those of you that don't know the background
(07:16):
of this, this used to be under a different name
Headliners was it was called Cliffhangers, so it was a
decorative relic from when the bar was called Cliff Hangars,
and the owners purchased it from a Southern Indian a
scrapyard and used it as a crane. I used a
crane to lift it up onto a support beam and
it's it's been there ever since. The bar closed as
(07:38):
Cliffhangers in the mid nineties, but the plane remained and
then it became Headliners. And I'm sure many people that
end up there for a concert that aren't from Louisville
they asked questions about it and probably get some a
lot of it added attention. I would imagine, I mean
again for us, I mean I drive by it. I'm
in that area not often, but you know, every now
and then, and it always stands out because you don't
often see just a plane in the in the backyard
(08:02):
seemingly of a concert hall. Now, John, you're a big
concert guy, but you've not been to headliners. You saw
the plane, I mean it looks it looks like a
real plane crash.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
He does. I don't know if they did any doctoring
up to make it look like have the aesthetic of
a being a crash plane, but yeah, it's very impressive.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
So Carrie Grace of wkire Partners, she did a segment
on this not long ago. This is of course before
the storm had some tree spawl on it and damage
this plane even further. And here is her deep dive
into I guess the story behind it. Again, This is
from WKY. This is Kerry Grace.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
In the early nineteen eighties, would appear to be a
plane crash appeared in the hillside behind Distillery Commons on
Lexington Road. But here's the thing it wasn't. It was
a marketing stunt to promote a new bar called Cliffhangers.
Speaker 5 (08:48):
It's a big outdoor entertainment, you know. It was to
a nightclub and bar. And we bought that plane up
at an airplane junk yard up and Indiana that.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
Was forty years ago, so the details are a little foggy.
For Ward Ploche, who I spoke with via zoom from Florida,
Ploche says he and his former business partner paid just
a few hundred bucks for the recked plane.
Speaker 5 (09:10):
We just was sitting around one day, just you know, planning,
what if you know, what if we do this? How
do we promote this? I'll we promote that. Let's put
a plane in the hill. We'll call the Cliffhangers. When
we made up a whole narrative about a guy named
Cliff who flew the plane crash there, and you know,
it was part of the just the pr of the promote.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
The thing, and it caused quite the stir.
Speaker 5 (09:31):
Everybody thought it was a real plane crash. People started
seeing it and started calling in emergency calls that there's
a plane crash on Lexington Road, and of course, you know,
within about an hour it was on the news and
it was, it was, it was. It was well worth
the promotional value.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
So I mean, that makes total sense, and I don't
feel like as big of a dummy because there were
people driving down Lexton Road calling the police there was
a plane crash on Lexington Road. I mean maybe at
that time, if I was around, I would have done
the same thing. But as i'm and by the way,
i'm looking at the you know, they're showing the plane
in this story, so again I'm seeing it while you
(10:09):
guys are just hearing it. But I'm telling you everything
about the appearance and how it is set up. I mean,
it looks like I mean I would if I showed
up without any any knowledge, any context to it and
somebody told me, yeah, this was never real. They just
set it up this way. I'm thinking, like, how would
they do that? How could they get this thing in
the you know, in every way looking as if it
was a plane crash that happened twenty thirty years ago
(10:31):
and nobody ever touched it or did anything with it.
So well done. And yes, as he mentioned there, I'm
sure that was worth the value in pr when it
comes to just all the attention that it got because
people legitimately thought a plane had crashed in Lexton Road
over there. All right, let's get to a quick time out.
We'll check on traffic and weather. Also we'll get back
into what President Trump had to say and who he
(10:51):
talked about, who he mentioned who he referenced. Obviously, that
can go a long way for folks in politics, and
he certainly acknowledged some and did not acknowledge some others
when it comes to those in Kentucky. We'll get to
that in a lot more. But first traffick in weather
updates right here, right now, and currently it is six
seventeen and we've got currently thirty nine degrees at news
Radio eight forty whas it is six thirty five here
(11:15):
at news Radio eight forty whas. Coffee and Company fueled
by Thorntons, that's us. And if you need breakfast, Thornton's
has got you covered. A lot of good options, plenty
of donuts to choose from if that's your thing. Also
breakfast sandwiches, biscuits, and gravy. So they say breakfast is
the most important meal of the day, and they wouldn't
say that if it wasn't true. So again, Keith Thorntons
(11:37):
in mind this morning if you are in Kentucky, and
there's likely one near you because they're everywhere. And again
they've got what you need to stay fueled for the
day ahead. So the day ahead, we've got some basketball
coming your way. Kentucky taking on Missouri. Tip is at
twelve thirty there, so pregame coverage is going to start
over on seven ninety around I guess is at nine
o'clock I believe, And then of course you've got the
(12:01):
actual pregame coverage from the network with Tom Leach and
those guys that'll start I believe around ten thirty maybe.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
So Tony and Dwight will be on until eleven o'clock day,
just like yesterday.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
Gotcha okay, so eleven o'clock and then it goes to
Tom Leach and his crew as they get set for
that twelve thirty tip. So there you go, it'll be
right here. Here's ready, wait for the Whas for Louisville,
they are tipping off at two thirty. That'll be I believe,
once again on the ACC network and a chance for
both to win and advance and survive another day in
the conference tournaments. Obviously, the Big Dance is what really
(12:35):
matters around here, but that doesn't mean that this doesn't
matter at all. And obviously both teams in position to
if they keep winning, improve their seating for next week,
and I would say there'll be a lot more Kentucky
fans in Nashville today than yesterday, because I mean even
yesterday they had a great showing. I mean, it truly
felt like a home game for them when you watched
it on TV. And that's not a surprise. They always
(12:58):
have more fans in Nashville than nobody else, including the
teams who play in that state who call that state
their home, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. So I know many that
have gone every year. They make it a trip, they
make it a priority, and yet they end up planning
to be their Thursday, because it's unheard of for Kentucky
(13:19):
to have to get started an SEC play on a Wednesday.
So I'm sure there were some that you know, didn't
even you know, maybe they didn't have a hotel until,
you know, tonight, because this was going to be their
first day there. And of course I'm sure they hope
and plan to stay long. But what I'm getting at is,
I'm sure there's plenty making their way there today, and
I would imagine that Big Blue presence will be even
(13:41):
bigger than it was a day ago, which if you're Missouri,
good luck, and look, Missouri can win. They beat him
earlier this year. Interrupt Kentucky is a two and a
half point favorite right now, but should be a good matchup.
It should, all right, So yesterday we had President Trump
make his visit to Kentucky. We'll let you hear a
little more about what he had to say from from
(14:01):
his time here in the Bluegrass state. But also there's
something else going on. You know, it's called a war,
and that, of course is something that right now he's
saying that we won, but we don't really know what
we were even. Really like, one of the initial questions
that I think a lot of folks had, myself included, was, Okay,
what's the real objective here? What's going to be the mark,
(14:25):
if you will, that we get to to say, Okay,
we've accomplished what we are setting out to accomplish here.
Now we can call it and and move on. When
you don't really know what that is, it's hard to
know if you got there, right. But Trump claiming that
we did in fact win, and I'm not really sure,
you know, I do think it's quite clear that the
(14:48):
US military has done what is needed to be done
as far as just you know, what they're being asked
to do, and that really is not debatable at this point,
I guess now it's okay. Well, when have we gotten
to the point where we know that, okay, this is
we're scaling back and this is coming to an end.
Because earlier this week Trump says that it won't be
(15:10):
over this week, because that's a direct question he was asked,
but did say soon, and soon can be, you know,
a couple weeks, soon can be next week, but only
time will tell real quick though, Let's get an update
from the White House just on the current situation in Iran.
This is from our partners over there at WLKY with
White House Correspondent White White House Correspondent Rachel Hersheimer. Again,
(15:30):
this is from earlier this morning. The latest situation on Iran.
Speaker 6 (15:36):
President Trump says he'll use oil from the government's reserves
at an effort to lower energy prices. The Energy Department
set in a statement the US will release one hundred
and seventy two million barrels of oil from the Strategic
Petroleum Reserve in coordination with allies. Now, for context, the
US uses roughly twenty million barrels of oil per day.
Experts say if the war ends soon, the extra supply
(15:58):
could trigger a sharp decline in oil prices. We'll get
the facts. Data team found the US strategic petroleum reserve
levels are near historic lows as tensions with the Run
threatened global oil supplies. Meanwhile, President Trump claimed Wednesday we
won the war, noting the US is quote in very
good shape.
Speaker 5 (16:16):
They've got no navy, they've got no air force, they've
got no anti air traffic anything, they have no systems
of control.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
Were just riding fre range over that country.
Speaker 6 (16:29):
Questions are still circulating about how much longer the US
will continue fighting in the Middle East. President Trump told
Axios on Wednesday the war will end soon, adding any
time he wants to end it.
Speaker 4 (16:39):
It will end.
Speaker 6 (16:40):
As the war rages on, affordability remains top of mind
for millions of Americans today. TRIPAA reports the average price
for a gallon of gas is about three point fifty nine.
That's about a twenty two percent increase compared to last month.
In Washington, ritchil Herscheimer to be lky news.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
All right, let's get to a quick time out before
we do that thought. You want to talk to you
guys about my friends at the loisll Me clinic. They've
got something they're really excited about and I am excited
to share with you what it is. And it's called
the magnum Opus. It's a non surgical mail enhancement treatment
that is getting a lot of attention. They spent ten
years putting this together, and uh, the focus is in
(17:16):
on is giving you results that you really didn't think
possible when it comes to performance treatment. It's a non
surgical mail enhancement and performance performance treatment and right now
again sounds like the results are unbelievable. Not only does
magnum Opus increase size, data also shows it can help
resolve ed issues Peroni's disease and restore tissue to a
(17:38):
more youthful state. I would check it out. I think
you'll be happy you did. I think your partner will
be happy you did. And it's at the Louisville Men's Clinic. Again,
it's the magnum Opus. Check them out online at the
magnum Opus dot com or go to the Lowilmen's Clinic
dot com That works too, or give them a call
FABO two four four four four thousand again and it's
the Louisville Men's Clinic.
Speaker 5 (17:54):
All right.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
Traffic and weather updates coming up next right here at
News Radio eight forty whas,
