Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's eighth five here News RADYO eight forty whas coffee
and company with you here on a Friday morning. We
are fueled by Thornton's. Keep Thornton's in mind today. They've
got what you need to stay fueled for the day ahead,
including a chance for you to save money at the pump.
I know a gas is expensive for everybody right now,
but hey, you could at least save a little bit
of money. In fact, you could save quite a bit
twenty cents off per gallon once per week if you're

(00:22):
a member of the Thornton's Refreshment Awards program. So again,
keep that in mind. Are one of the big stories
this week has been this uh Ticketmaster Live Nation settlement.
And if you have felt over the years like Ticketmaster
and Live Nation we're robbing you with fees, well, core
documents this week basically confirm that. And there's been a

(00:43):
lot of discussion about the settlement being a real gift
to this big bully that is Ticketmaster and Live Nation.
And when you consider the fine that they paid, I
mean it's not a lot of money to them. I
mean it doesn't really pack them in any way. And
the prices for these tickets over the years as far

(01:05):
as just you know, the upcharge. I mean, that's a
lot of money to people. Now, with all that said,
nobody's forcing you to buy it. I mean, I won't
be a hypocrite here because I think that as we've
talked about affordability and how everything's expensive, I think there's
a lot of things that people and look, you have
every right to justify whatever expense you You can spend
your money on whatever you want. You can finance things

(01:27):
if you have to. I mean, you can do whatever
you want. But that seems to be an industry that
has not had I mean, maybe the lack of not
having concerts for however long we had them, John made
it to where people realize that's how much they love
and enjoy concerts. Because post pandemic, I think big, big
arena shows are selling out at an even higher rate

(01:48):
than ever and the prices have gone up astronomically and
people they're still selling out, like they're still finding enough
people to sell at an arena.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Well, I think what happened to you had about a
year year and a half where nobody was touring at all,
and so once everything kind of went back to normal,
everybody started touring at the same time, and so so
many people were just spending money on not just one concert,
but maybe two or three or maybe even more than that.
And you know, it was empty in people's pockets at
that point.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
And look, we get we get robbed in a lot
of areas, right, We overpay for a lot of things.
And I mean, we could really take the conversation elsewhere today,
but that today's not the day to do, at least
not right now. But I mean, if you really look
at what is what people have to pay for, you know,
prescriptions and medication. I mean, it's it's a real the
whole healthcare system. You know. I think plenty of people

(02:35):
are fortunate enough to where they don't even really have
to experience the.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
Bad of it, but I have, and and.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
It's just a it's a very trying to be careful
with my words here, it's a very frustrating. That's the
best one I can come up with for lack of
of going overboard here. But just the thing, you know,
the fact that in society that we put people through
so much just you know, there's people people who have
jobs that is clearly just to make it as impossible

(03:03):
or inconvenient as possible, I should say, for people to
actually get basic medication that they need to stay healthy
and safe, Like what we have to do the whole
the hoops we have to jump through just to eight
different times, in eight different ways prove that, Like we
have a child that is disabled in order to get
basic level assistance and benefits. It puts a level of
like rage in me that I never knew existed.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
It literally it makes you want to say a bad
word for you.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
Yeah, that's ridiculous.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Yeah, But so again, that's just the world I wasn't
exposed to until, you know, until I was, And it's
just a very disheartening thing. But anyways, let's not get
too sidetracked here. But when it comes to tickets, people
still choose to pay this big amount of money. So
what I was getting at is that, you know, there's
a lot of ways we just know and we deal
with it. We move on. We you know, we don't
let we can't control it. So maybe that's what you

(03:50):
should do here with Live Nation and ticket Master. But
it's going to be even harder when you realize that
the executives of this company knew this and would make
jokes about out how much they were just ripping people off.
So there's newly unsealed internal messages that have been released
with this lawsuit that show two Live Nation ticketing directors

(04:12):
literally bragging about gouging fans and quote robbing them blind
with junk fees. One of them flat out called customers
so stupid for paying the prices they were charging. So,
I mean, we're, by the way, we're not even talking
about the ticket prices here. We're talking about all the
add ons, parking, lawn chair rentals, VIP access, and one

(04:32):
Chata director bragged about charging up to two hundred and
fifty dollars for VIP parking at a Virginia show, and
another they joked about making people pay fifty bucks to
park in the grass and sixty bucks to park for
grass that's closer to I guess where the venue was,
and then actually typed up these words quote robbing them blind, baby,

(04:54):
that's how we do it.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
End quote.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
I mean, again, that'll make even more mad than you
probably already were at Ticketmaster and Live Nation. But clearly
people who want to go to these concerts, they're going
to go. They just want to be there. That bad
if they can afford it, they can find a way
to make it work.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
So I'll say this though, shout out Danny Wimmer and
front Gate Tickets. They're very transparent for all their stuff
with Bourbon and Beyond and Louder than Life. What you
see on their site is what you pay. That's not
an endorsement, that's just the truth of what they offer.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
And it's sad that we have to brag on people
who do that.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
It is sad, but I mean, I'm glad these people
love Louisville and they put on.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
Growths and we appreciate them.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
But there's a reason that they have the reputation that
they do, not just with the two festivals here, but
with the ones they do all over the United States
as well.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
And I'll tell you what, it's more noticeable than ever
if you because it now seems like it's more of
a rarity that that people customer or businesses will do
right by customers and not potentially take advantage if they can.
So yeah, I mean, it's it's certainly not not going
above and beyond, at least it didn't used to be,

(05:57):
but now it does feel like it. They Hey, you're
going to pay what it is it says you pay
on the website, and you're not because now, I mean,
there's certain things that you just expect going in. Okay,
that's the price I'm seeing. Now, it's going to jump
two or three times before it's all said and done,
and you just, you know, let me give an example,
like there's when it comes to just the seemingly decline

(06:18):
of performance and I guess customer satisfaction. And I'm not
somebody who is of the belief the customer is always right. No,
a customer can be wrong and be an a hole.
Happens every day, but there just doesn't seem to be
a level of put it this way, there just seems
to be a decline. And give a damn if you will.
I mean, that's the best way to describe it. Because

(06:41):
if everybody's cutting corners and not leaving customers totally satisfied,
you get a little bit of a pass knowing that
they're going to go elsewhere and probably get the same experience.
And that goes for all kinds of different industries. But
right now, in the home improvement projects, in the last
two years, seventy percent of people that have had something
to at their home, whether it be kitchen remodel, counters,

(07:03):
maybe they get something painted, maybe they get somebody to
come in and, you know, redo a bathroom, whatever it
may be. Seventy percent have said that they were underwhelmed
with the service so much so that they either had
to redo it themselves, live with the shoddy job, or
have somebody hire somebody to come out and redo it

(07:24):
because of how bad the or in the seventy percent
is also that you know, maybe the job was completed,
but it was way late and it took a month longer.
Like that's just an area that has fallen off, and
it's just kind of the new norm now. Therefore, what
it seems to be, you know, out of the norm
is when you have a great and smooth experience with
a company to where you paid what you thought you

(07:47):
were paying. They showed up when they said they were
going to show up, the project took the amount of
time they told you it was going to take, and
that you know that that should be bare minimum. And look,
sometimes things do happen. There are mistakes that nobody's perfect.
Things can come up. But the fact that we're now
just to we're just programmed to expect things to come up.
Is it's frustrating. But again, the companies who don't have

(08:08):
those issues they do stand out to your example, you know,
Danny Emmer, you know, they're they're they're they're doing right
by people. And again credit to them for doing that.
But also I guess more so than ever, they could
not do it and people would like, honestly, they could
have bad customer service, they could have you know, they
could have lack of transparency and john.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
People would still show up and go because that's what
they want to do. That's what it's.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
It's enjoyment. It's it's entertainment. It's something that like they
want to do. It's not like, you know, it's not
a request. I mean, it's something that they don't want
to take, bad customer service or whatnot. But like, if
it's something they really want to do, they're going.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
To do it.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
Yeah. I hate that, that's the reality, and I don't
I don't think that they would ever go in that direction.
But it's definitely if they just all of a sudden said,
you know what, we're done putting forth the effort to
make this the best experience and easiest experience they could
get away with it, but I would highly doubt they would.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
But either way, yes, and I hope that hope nobody
ever sees it as a soign where you can cut
corners and maybe not go above and beyond, because you know,
then we're all screwed if everybody does that. So again,
another company that I know you hear me talk about
quite a bit is Wind Donation. And that's why they're
such a great partner to partner with, because they're not
only great at what they do, but they realize they're
gonna stand out and you're gonna never want to go

(09:17):
anywhere else because you're gonna get a great experience and
a great product, and that is that is lacking in
a lot of ways. So all right, let's get to
a quick time out. We've got traffick in weather updates
on the way. We'll talk a little more sports for
one more sports update with Scott and then Rory O'Neil
he's gonna stop buy round eight thirty five. So hang
out with us right here at news Radio eight forty WHS.

(09:38):
All right, final segment for me here and then I'm
gonna hand it off to Tony and Dwight. This is
the opening act every day for us at news Radio
eight forty WHS on the opening act today for the
party tonight at Hooters.

Speaker 3 (09:51):
Right, yes, Hooters Preston Highway, seventy seven oh one Preston Highway.
We go live at five thirty. Parent Johnson is gon
to join us. Marty h What is the Hooters? Which wings?
Do you like? The bread?

Speaker 1 (10:05):
And I think one thing that Hooters I think still
does best is there they're hot sauce. I mean, they
got a lot of different flavors, but they're hot, like
their house hot.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
Yeah is my favorite. It's favorite. Yeah. Well, I do
the medium because it has such a weird flavor. I
like that flavor and then I dip it in the
hot sauce.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
My wife does the exact same thing. That's very odd.
I think they've got a good ranch too, And look
I've had. I mean, there's not much that they don't
do really good. And I say that having no affiliation
with Hooters at all. I just I don't go as
often as I used to. But you know, the grilled
chicken sandwich is pretty good. Yeah, I know you're talking
too healthy, but it is. I'm sure it is good.
But like they've got, They've got, They've got They've got

(10:49):
mozzarella sticks that are like, I mean, I can't go
there and not get them. But then I also know
I'm gonna get wings to the buffalo chicken sandwich is good.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
So Dwight's is the popcorn shrimp? Oh yeah, and he
dips it in the hot sauce.

Speaker 1 (10:59):
The buffet of shrimp. There my dad when we go,
we can't we can't go without him loading up on
buffalo shrimp. So yeah, you got college hoops, you got
Tony and DWIGHTE and you got hooters.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
I mean, god, I don't know wrong right, I know
on Preston Highway. I don't know who did the scheduling,
but I was like, you know, the brackets come out Sunday.
We can't talk about the brackets until that comes out,
But just what seed for Louisville next They're done? Six? Yeah,
I agree with you. I think a five or six.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
I think six is probably the safe bet. And what
really it's going to come down to is that you
know they actually have You know, for example, not all
wins from the quad one level are created equally, but
Louisville has the same amount of quad one wins as
a Yukon. Do I think they're going to get seated
close where Yukon is. No, But they've got some metrics,
some data around them that is the opposite of last year.
Last year they had a really good record, but the

(11:47):
numbers didn't love them because the ACC was down. They
went eighteen and two in the league and got an
eight seed. Now they have don't have as much of
a the record's not as impressive, but they've got more
quality wins and just their overall resume is better. So
you know, maybe these here will be pleasantly surprised. No,
he's uh, he was. They decided to rule him out
the whole trip and then the whole The hope is

(12:08):
that they would just give him more time to get close.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
To Somebody posted something where he was on the stat line.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
So he uh, he did come up because he had
gotten He was jawing a little bit with the Miami
players after the game, which which you know, he smirked
and laughed, which initially somebody was like, oh, is he
left and we lost? But then they realized that that
Miami was talking trash, and he was kind of like,
you guys, you know you're Lucky. I wouldn't out there
kind of thing, which you know, we'll never know what

(12:34):
would have happened. But yeah, he's a talented guy that
Louisville could certainly use in the tournament. I'm hoping that
he can get healthy.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
But let's go. Yeah, we'll find out.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
I mean, it's win or go home for here manam
Kentucky got a chance to against Florida.

Speaker 3 (12:46):
It's gonna be a home game for him.

Speaker 1 (12:48):
Uh No, Okay, Florida's that good, right Uh direct answer
from Tony Venetti. All right, stick around, Tony Dwight coming
your way next right here at news Radio eight forty
