Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good Monday morning, Kentucky, Anda. Welcome in coffee and company.
That's us and we are fueled by Thornton's here at
news Radio eight forty whas six oh five, so we
get the six o'clock hours started. So far, nice weather
to get this Monday started a chili but pleasant forty
four degrees looking at sunny and seventy four as the
hot today. There'll be some clouds mixed in, but some clouds,

(00:23):
some sunshine and seventy four. I'll take it all right.
So President Trump is going to be in Kentucky. He'll
be in town here soon, I believe, at some point,
some point this week I was going to. Part of
me thinks it's coming up in the next couple of days,
but I could be wrong there. However, what I'm getting
at is this will be his first trip to the
Bluegrass State seemingly since he was here in twenty twenty

(00:46):
two for the Kentucky Derby. And if you go back
and look at his trips to the state, and he's
even into Louisville of course in that time, specific trips
to to Louisville since twenty sixteen. It started then at
the campaign rally which was in Louisville March of twenty sixteen,
so ten years ago, the Make America Great Again campaign

(01:08):
tour stopped in and I remember the coverage of that.
I remember the scene that it was, and of course
there were protesters there and Trump called for them to
be removed, and that became, you know, a whole thing.
Then also he returned just two months later to speak
at the NRA convention that was taking place, very critical
of Hillary Clinton at that time. That was pretty much

(01:31):
the theme for him at that time. And then in
twenty seventeen, shortly after taking office, he returned to Louisville
for a rally at Freedom Hall that was part of
a national tour promoting his early policy agenda, including tax
cuts and immigration enforcement. Still clearly a big priority for Trump,
or at least it has been since he's been back
in office. And then in twenty nineteen, he came to

(01:53):
both Louisville and Lexington, and that was in August to
twenty nineteen, and that was part of an event honoring
veterans with permanent disabilities that was at the Gold House.
And later that year he did come back to Kentucky
and went to Lexington at ropp Arena in support of
Matt Bevan at that time, which crazy to think that
was that that seems so much longer than seven years.

(02:16):
And then in twenty twenty two, more than a year
after leaving office, he attended the one hundred and forty
eight Kentucky Derby, and obviously that led to a lot
of a lot of reaction and also his I guess
that was his second part of me says there's got
to be more than just two derbies that Trump's attended.
But this breakdown here mentions a previous Derby appearance in

(02:38):
nineteen ninety nine, which long long ago. So again, we'll
keep you updated on the situation in Iran throughout the
morning here as best we can. But obviously that's been
something that I'm sure many have consumed every bit of
information you can on it, and I'm sure there are
some that you know you're not running from it, but
you're not exactly trying to spend a ton of your

(02:58):
time thinking about it or look into it, And that's
kind of where I'm at. But you're going to start
to feel the effects of it. You already are at
the gas pump. As we talked about just a little
bit ago. Rory O'Neil he joined us to say that
you could start to see these real big increases when
it comes to the price of airlines. I mean the
price that airlines are going to charge you for plane tickets.
So again, one way or the other, you're surely going

(03:19):
to feel it. At some point we'll talk a little
more about how the economy is going to be impacted
with this war going on. With Joe Silessing or she's
going to join us coming up in the seven o'clock
hour CBS Business Analyst again, that'll be about seven fifteen.
All right, So college basketball is in the full is
probably right now starting to get some attention nationally. But

(03:43):
you know, next week's when it really really gets rolling,
right Selection Sunday we're six days away now, a week
from today, we're going to have the bracket. We're going
to be looking at it and from the local side
of it, the quick update as to where the local
teams are. We'll start with Louisville. They were never in
danger of missing the tournament. But I do think the
last week of the regular season proved to be pretty

(04:03):
pretty important because if you continued to slide, it probably
still would have made it, but man, your seed would
up would have been a big question mark. It probably
would have been really dependent on I would say what
other teams did. So a win against QS was not
a win that did much to help you, but man,
it would have been a bad one. And then they

(04:24):
go on the road against Miami and found a way
to win. As the irrational lunatic fan that I can be,
at times, I wished it would have resulted in a
win that led you to feel better about some of
the things that have caused this team issues. But you know,
I guess beggars can be cheers as they did get
their first valuable win on the road this year. I mean,

(04:45):
that was one thing they just didn't have. They did
not beat anybody good on the road until they beat
Miami over the weekend. And I think Miami is a
good team. In fact, they may play them in the
quarterfinals of the ACC tournament if they get there. So
nice spinish for Louisville, and right now they appear to
be anywhere between a five to a six. I know,

(05:06):
if you look at the resume, they're really strong in
the net rankings, which I think the net rankings is
worth keeping in mind when you try to predict what
the committee's going to do, because that's their own formula,
right that was created by the NCAA, this net ranking system,
this formula that they use, and I think it's clearly flawed,
but hey, regardless of what I think or what you think,
we know it's what they use. So I'm trying not

(05:28):
to put too much into that because last year Louisville
had a better has solid ranking and got an eight seed.
So right now, if you go to bracket Matrix that
gives you a full rundown, it's pretty easy to navigate it.
I mean, in fact, really the homepage is all you
really need to see, but it pulls all of the
notable bracket projectors out there and puts all of their

(05:50):
results together to give you the consensus as far as
what the talking heads in the bracket world are saying,
and for both Louisville. Actually Louisville still looked at as
a six seed right now. I think that's probably I
think they could lose in their first round of the
ACC tournament and probably still hold on to a six seed,
but of course you don't want to risk it. But
that's where they're at. Kentucky. They fall to the seven

(06:12):
line according to Bracket Matrix after two losses to wrap
up the regular season. And obviously with Kentucky, I mean
they didn't lose to bad teams. I mean A and
M probably punched their ticket to the Dance by beating Kentucky.
Florida maybe one of the best. I mean, they are
one of the best teams in the country. Nobody's going
to be shocked if they win consecutive national championships. So
those losses for the Cats didn't damage the resume. But

(06:36):
you're sitting at nineteen and twelve overall, You've now lost
five of your last seven games. You finished ten and
eight in the SEC. And I think their team right
now that I feel like that would be a bubble
type season in previous seasons. They're not a bubble team
at all, because despite a nineteen and twelve record, they

(06:57):
have a resume that is far better than all these
other teams that are on the bubf But you know,
if they were to lose, and I don't think they will,
but if they were to lose to LSU on Wednesday,
I mean, that would be honestly a bad look, right.
But as far as the numbers. I mean, LSU, despite
being the worst team in the league, they have a
sixty two net ranking. That would make that a quad

(07:19):
two loss. But like that's the at that point. I
feel like, if you lose, you'd probably still be a seven.
But if the other bubble teams solidify their their ticket
and they play well, get good wins in their conference tournament,
maybe they jump ahead of you. But with Kentucky on Saturday,
here's what I observed. They knew they were losing to

(07:41):
a team that they weren't supposed to beat. They probably
know that when Florida is playing well, they're not going
to beat them many times because most teams wouldn't. Right,
They're just they're just too much. And normally, I think
most fans of any team, not just Kentucky fans, would
be in that situation and think, Okay, well, what are

(08:02):
you gonna do? I mean, we're really good. We know
we can beat a lot of teams on any given night.
But when Florida's playing well, I mean, what are you
gonna do? They used to be that team, though Kentucky did.
That's that's I think the hard pill to swallow is
that although you know Mark Pope hasn't had great results
thus far, he also hasn't come close to missing the tournament,
and you know he's not in terrible. But again, Kentucky,

(08:24):
the expectation's really really high. So I thought that was
a real noticeable thing. And I think maybe I noticed
it because I watched the game with some Kentucky fans
that hey, there's no shame in getting beat by Florida,
who's playing as well as anybody in the country. But
Kentucky used to be the team that everybody would say
that about. What what are you gonna do? I mean, look,
I'm a loisvill fan myself, and I know there were

(08:45):
times where you know you want to beat your rival,
but I knew Louisville could maybe win a national championship,
but hey, they could also lose to Kentucky nine out
of ten times they play them because Kentucky just has
better players. They're that good. So I'm sure there are
some that aren't losing their mind about it, But I
think also there's plenty of fans that understand at Kentucky,
you can't just make the tournament. You can't just you know,

(09:06):
not be terrible. You need to be at the top
of the sport and they're just not there now and
tough to know when that when that could change under
Mark Pope. But Dick Ftel, I mean, John, you and
I work together in sports quite a bit.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
You know that.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
I'm a fan of Dicky v as far as what
he does for college basketball. But I'm somebody that has
no problem in telling anybody Dick Fotell has it. We
haven't needed Dick Vitel on television in a long time.
One does a great job as far as the advocating
for the sport, does so much to raise money for
cancer awareness. But like he he I don't think he should.
I think college basketball broadcasts are better when he's not
on it.

Speaker 3 (09:36):
There's a there's a commercial that he's in right now.
I can't think of what it's for, but that ad
alone where he's like screaming and you know, kind of
doing this thing. I'm like, man, dude, you've done so
much just just hanging up. Maybe he's one of those
people that just doesn't know how to stop doing what
they've always done.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
I'll probably be one of those people, to be honest with.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
You, But I don't want to say he needs him
self awareness but like he definitely someone needs to be
in his ear and say he just just just have
a rest.

Speaker 1 (10:04):
And if there was a counter that it would be that,
I'm gonna let you guys hear really quickly in a
second what he had to say, because I think despite
Dicky V. You know, I think, being able to pass
his prime, he's still somebody like this tactually ties into
what I was about to say. If you're going to
give the benefit of the doubt for ESPN for continuing
to put him out there. One, he wants to be
out there, but also he's a recognizable figure for the sport,

(10:25):
like people will be more at least aware that college
basketball is existing. If Dicky v. Jellen, that's just kind
of It's been that way for a long time. But
with all that said, as much as he is sort
of a figure within college sports, him acknowledging moral victories
don't count at this level. If Kentucky fans weren't already
thinking that, I think they probably heard Dick ftell and
maybe they wanted to disagree, but it's hard to disagree.

Speaker 4 (10:45):
With season here and Tod Goldan told us like this
is a talented Kentucky team. I love their starty five
and what they've done today has to serve notice Dicky V.
To every other team that they're gonna face about how
challenging they're going to be to knock out.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
Well, I'll tell you one that you don't want to
walk out of the here thinking you got a moral victory.
Moral victories don't count at this level of basketball. And
I think you'll hear some of the people and we
played them close, who played them tough. Bottom line is
you're Kentucky. You're Kentucky, and you gotta leave here either
with a wiz rushing that a whole no moral victories.

(11:21):
Come on, I don't want to.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
Hear that it's the Kentucky team that beats Saint John
which is the Big East co champion at work.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
So we can we can move on from There's enough
Dicky V. I I don't need Jimmy Diykes followed above
Dicky V. There not at six seventeen on a Monday morning.
But anyways, I think Kentucky it'd be an exaggeration act
like they've had some humongous fall. They haven't. They've been
good even at the end of Calipariy THEYD those upsets
in the turn, but they were still a relevant team
that could beat anybody in most instances. But they haven't

(11:50):
made a Final four in ten years, which again most
some teams have never made a Final four. So I
think Dicky V kind of just reminded, yeah, hey, we
can acknowledge that, hey, this isn't badness, isn't terrible, but
you're supposed to be the cream of the crop, the
top tier, and they're just not there right now. And
I get it if some fans feel like, hey this
is right now, is didn't good enough? A quick time
out trafficking, weather updates coming your way. It's six thirty

(12:13):
five here at news Radio eight forty whas Nick Coffee,
That's me Coffee and Company. We are fueled by Thornton's
appreciate you hanging out with us as we get the
week started. So this is a national story. I'm sure
you'll hear about and it maybe would be one of
those stories that kind of goes in one year and
out the other. But if you have been to turn
on the news and see a face you recognize and think, wait,

(12:35):
what do I recognize this guy? Where have I seen
him before? That situation could could play out as Todd Enman,
a member of the NTSB, the National Transportation Safety Board,
has been fired by the White House that took place
on behalf of President Trump in recent days. It comes
just two years into a five year term, and according

(12:57):
to Enman, he's been given no reason for his termination
at all. And the reason I bring this up is
because this person you may recognize, or a voice you
may recognize, even this is the man who was here
that was the designated NTSB board member on scene after
the ups plane crash. So this is the guy that
was conducting the press conferences and giving updates, talking about

(13:21):
the early facts as far as what was known, and
just briefing us quite a bit. In fact, I remember
having no familiarity with NTSB investigations. I just assume we're
gonna get very little info and we'll be reminded that
this is going to be such a long process, because
it is. Those investigations take a long long time. But
I remember feeling as if, Okay, this's this guy's at

(13:44):
least given us something. I feel like I'm learning something
each time there is somewhat of an update. But again,
he's been terminated, and he told us shortly after this
plane crash took place that you know, he wasn't going
anywhere until the job was done. But clearly that's not
the case. This was from one of the briefings back
in November.

Speaker 5 (14:06):
We're not going to leave until we know that we've
secured all of the parishal evidence and all the information
that will be necessary to come out with the most
comprehensive investigative report. We will do it as quick as
we can, and with respect to those people who still
have who have family members that have not been found.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
So as far as what this means for the investigation
here in regards to the Louisville Ups cargo plane crash,
that's unknown. But this is starting to get a little
more attention, just because I would imagine Edmun's letting it
be known that he has no clue why he would
get a letter letting him know that he's been he's
been terminated, especially early in to his tenure, but he
was appointed by Biden and that was back in March

(14:49):
of twenty twenty four. He previously served as the Department
of Transportation official during Trump's first term, and he actually
got national attention during his time on scene. At the
end TSBA investigation for the deadly collision over Washington, DC
that was in January of twenty twenty five. So he's out,
And as far as any response, as far as he

(15:14):
gets an official update, as far as they're going to
give him more infuest to why he's been fired, I'm
sure he'll let people know that. But yeah, as far
as what it means for the investigation here in Louisville,
I'm sure just means somebody else takes over all. Right,
let's talk about the louisvill Ben's clinic, shall we. You
guys have heard me for a long time. Now tell
you how they have changed my life. And that sounds dramatic, right,
It sounds like something that's just over the top, but

(15:35):
it's not. It's the truth. They have helped change my
life and they can do the exact same thing for you.
So again, cannot recommend him enough. For me, it was testosterone, right,
I didn't realize, Hey, I have low testosterone. And it
wasn't as if it was something alarming that my doctor's
going to notice in a lab in lab work. But

(15:55):
your levels need to be in a certain range for
your age range, and that's where mine weren't, and that's
where that's why when I got to my early thirties,
I started to think, Okay, I guess this is life.
This is part of growing up. Because I'm no longer
getting the same results from the gym. I'm not changing anything.
I'm just starting to become lethargic. And the best way
I can describe it is I just felt like I'd

(16:15):
lost my edge and I didn't know why. And it's
because I didn't have my levels where they needed to
be when it comes to testosterone, and now I do,
and again it's been a life changer. So that's how
they've helped me. But there's other ways they can help you,
including when it comes to performance in the bedroom. They
have the magnum Opus available now after ten years. A
decade's worth of work, a decade's worth of research went

(16:37):
in to develop this. It's a non surgical mail enhancement
and performative treatment with incredible results. Not only does the
magnum Opus increase size, data also shows it can help
resolve the ed issues, prone's disease and restore tissue to
a more youthful state. So there's a lot of buzz
out there about it. Because apparently it works, and it
works really really well. Check it out, fellas, give them
a call today FABO two four four four four thousand,

(16:59):
or visit the Magnamopus dot com. Sounds like you'll be
happy that you did, and also your partner will be
happy that you did as well. All right, you'll be
happy to stick with us. We've got trafficking weather updates
coming your way. On the other side, we'll see how
the roadways are looking on this Monday morning. Don't go anywhere.
Keep it locked with us again right here at news
Radio eight forty whas. Thank you for hanging out with
us here on this Monday morning, six forty nine. Here

(17:23):
at news Radio eight forty whas. Nick Coffee. That's me
the company man, mister John all On alongside and his
Indiana Hoosiers are on the bubble. Have you have you
paid close attention to projections. I'm somebody that wouldn't because
I would just try to, you know, I would overthink it.
If I'm looking at every bracket that's out there to
see if my team's in it.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
I haven't looked at a ton of different brackets. I'm
aware like that. The situation is like a whole bunch
of the bubble teams are just kind of, you know,
failing to capitalize when other teams lose and win their
own games, Indiana included. So I know that they have
a slight chance and finding their way into the field.
They'll probably need to win for sure their first two
games in the Big Ten tournament. They'll play most likely

(18:03):
Northwestern in their first game, and then if they win,
they'll face Purdue, which they've already beaten one time. This
year's second game not so much. But if they can
get past Perdue again, I'd be very insane. They're probably
safely in at that point, even if it is a
playing game.

Speaker 1 (18:16):
And look, even right now, they're still in according to
a lot of the projections, because the bubble is not
really I mean, it's such a cliche to say, well,
the bubble's weak this year, the bubble's down. But I mean,
if there was every year where it's very much directly
in your face that that's the case, it is right now.
Let me give you a list of bubble teams that lost.

(18:37):
I mean, Friday it started, Central Florida lost, Seaton Hall lost.
Those teams were probably not in a great position, but
at least still alive, and then you look at I mean,
we'll use Lenardi because he's in our face all the
time form ESPN on Saturday, the last seven at large
teams that were in his bracket to start that day

(18:59):
and his first teams out of the field. Nine of
those teams were in action Saturday. So again, the majority
of the teams that are bubblicious to Leonardi, nine of them,
every one of them lost Missouri, Texas, SMU, Indiana, New Mexico, Auburn, Virginia, Tech, Cincinnati,
and California. So I mean that'd be a heck of
a bet to make. By the way, yeah, didn't have

(19:20):
that hit, but also I think Indiana, if you're in
that me again right now, some still don't have them
in and it's truly a Hey, if they don't make it,
you can't say you're stunned, But if they do, you
also would say the legitimacy to it would be the
fact that, hey, there's a bunch of teams that are
kind of in this pool, and they're one of the
better ones. I mean, I think they've got to win

(19:41):
against Purdue. That's one that's better than what most have.
And really what sucks for Indiana is because the bubble
being what it is, so weak. If they didn't lose
that first game to Minnesota and they didn't lose to Northwestern,
they're firmly.

Speaker 3 (19:52):
In Oh my gosh, yeah, and they are ready to
a chance of redemption with Lfwestern potentially, which would be nice.

Speaker 1 (19:57):
Yeah, so they could, you know, maybe they beat them,
if they beat them down, then that could be a
chance to maybe slightly boot some numbers, because again that's
where the big ten in the SEC really show their
depth and just how good they are. Because Northwestern is
one of the worst teams in your league. But they're
not even like outside got a pushover. Yeah, they're not.
I mean they're in the top seventy five of all
the metrics, which by definition, if you beat them at

(20:18):
their place, that's a quad one win. So I think
if Indiana has a good showing against Purdue, if they
get there, of course, I'd still think they're going to
be on the right side. And it's more so to
do with they lost as a bubble team, but everybody
else did too, and that was the last chance as
far as regular season for you to do anything with
your resume, and the loss to Ohio State. Is a
quality loss if you can, if you believe in such

(20:39):
a thing. I know that sounds weird to some because
who wants to lose? But hey, not all losses are
the same. All right, quick time out, We'll check on
traffick and weather. We'll get to sports with Scott Fitzgerald.
It's all right here at news Radio eight forty. Whas
