Good morning, Happy Friday, cu It's five oh six here
at News Radio eight forty whas we made it to
the end of the week, and I will tell you
today is going to be a much smoother morning for everybody,
including us, because we'll be able to get back to
what we typically do around here, and we're not expecting
any crazy weather. You never really know what we're going
to get. However, I will say that highly unlikely we

have a morning like yesterday with the severe weather. And
as I'm looking at the TV in front of me
right now, our partner's at wk WHY showing all the
damage that we got yesterday with the storms. I guess
more so than anything, it was Thursday evening into I'm sorry,
Wednesday evening into the morning, and all the damage that
I'm referring to that I'm looking at is southern Indiana.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
And yes, they did in fact get a tornado and then.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Have to be a tornado for when to come through
and cause a big mess, and we certainly had that.
But nonetheless, it's Friday. We're celebrating Father's Day this weekend.
It's Juneteenth, which means you may actually get rewarded. There
could be some payback coming your way today because there's
a lot of folks not going to work, which means
you could have a smoother commute. Don't know if it's

gonna make up for the mess we had yesterday, but hey,
it's Friday, end of the week. We'll get you set
for the weekend. And I would imagine me telling you
that you're mourning. As far as the commute and whatnot,
I feel confident in telling you it'll probably be better
than yesterday's. Is that a safe assumption.

I didn't think you're okay there, Nick. Yeah, it's what
a crazy day that was yesterday. And then I spent
most of the day really watching kind of the stories
of the other folks that were out there that you know,
weren't so fortunate that you know, had trees in their
living room that woke up.

A young couple in Fern Creek had to be rescued
from their vehicle because of rising waters.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
Oh my god. And that corner you talked about, Nick.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
It's a new core fear for me, by the way
I should be. It scares the hell out of me
just thinking about it. That Hurstborn Lane in six Mile.
I drove by there yesterday. It was still five o'clock.
The traffic lights were out down down the road in
Jaytown as well. It was an absolute mess at that intersection.
Still yesterday at five o'clock. Yeah, I'm not surprised. I
am not all So again, we're gonna have a much
better day today. Not to say that yesterday is terrible,

but you know, we got to do what we gotta
do on days like that. But today we are off
to a rather warm start. Sixty four degrees outside. High
today is eighty one, which is pretty mild all things considered,
and it's gonna be mostly sunny, so get out there
and enjoy it.

but it hit me I didn't feel like we had
a show yesterday just because of what we were doing,
which is fine. I think that's what we're supposed to do.
That's what they tell me we're supposed to do. And
we did have a great chat with Mary Greenberg. But
other than that, I mean, I'm rare to go this
morning because you know, yesterday was professional. We had to

be serious, we had to be we had be grown ups.
And dare I say we can maybe let our hair
down a little bit hypothetical hair speaking, because I don't
have much of it. But yeah, we're gonna have some
fun on a Friday. That's what Fridays are for.

Well, that's why we called Saturday's Nicks. You know, study Hall.
It was radio study Hall. We just had a good time.
We all came in and hung out.

But no, man, I told you this yesterday when we
got off the air yesterday, you were a top notch.
I mean, I've been doing this a long time, covered
a lot of events, and I've never seen anybody as
smooth as you were to just jump right in and
really just keep people in.

And the one thing I want to hear is a
familiar voice when times are tough and when we go
through stuff like this, and man, you fit the bill.

I think the amount of different speaking engagements that jd
Vance has had. He's been in front of every microphone,
every camera this week. And I'm not kidding you. I
have no way to chart this, there's no data, but

I feel like he has done more interviews in the
last week than anybody in the history of existence. I mean,
that's an exaggeration, but he's been everywhere, and it's a
reminder to me that he's pretty smooth at talking. He's
pretty good at that, meaning he's really good at I think,
being able to say a lot without really saying one
anything totally wrong, but also just you know, saying a
lot without saying much. So it's just another reminder that

with this Iran situation, this agreement, you're going to be
able to believe whatever you want. You are And I've
got some examples that will allow you to continue to
just live in your world, not see things for both.
There's always, you know, there's always multiple things that could
be true. It's never completely one side or the other.
But we live in a world now where that's just
how people are wired. And I think this holy Ron

situation is maybe the latest example of that.

So I think this Iran deal is classic political wordplay.
You know, they can say with a straight face, we're
not handing to Ron three hundred billion, and we're guaranteeing
they'll never get a nuclear weapon because technically the cash
is private. I mean, there's that Gulf backed reconstruction fund.

Iran could tap tap if it behaves and they do
what they're supposed to do. As far as this arrangement
and the nuke's situation, the nuclear weapons, I mean, it
just promises to give up enriched eranium and accept inspections,
which buys time, dangles money, but doesn't magically stop them
from ever rebuilding a weapons program down the road. So

I'll admit, hand up, I got a tough time really
knowing what's real what's not, more than I ever have.
I like to believe I'm not alone, but maybe I
choose to believe that because I don't want to feel
like such a dumbass.

Maybe that's what it is. I don't know.

So are we handing Iran three hundred million dollars? No,
it's not a direct US payment, but yes, Iran is
being offered potential access to a huge pot of investment
and reconstruction financing if it plays ball. And that's exactly
why the number is so explosive politically when you hear
or three hundred billion, and you have people who want

to do the scoreboard right. They want to be able
to say, look at this jackass, he started a war
and he didn't really do anything. In fact, he's given
more money than Obama did. That's what you're hearing people say.
And they've got at least, I guess enough to just
run with that, even though there's maybe at best partial

truth as far as just you know, the way you
want to look at numbers, but you can choose to
believe whatever you want. I do know there's many out
there that one just wanted to be over and want
to feel like we're heading in the right direction. As
far as just the war no longer causing the discomfort
financially that a lot of people here in America have felt.
And it's not just gas prices. That's what it's talked

about quite a bit, and I'm guilty of using this
platform to reference it because that's the day to day
that you see, even if you're not at the pump,
you see those prices. You know what that does to
your bank account? You know how that makes things even
more difficult when it comes to affordability.

But here's one thing I ponder. If you're gonna.

Start a war, and it's it's it's necessary, right, It's
not it's not a well we got bored, let's you know,
let's just let's just go do something to entertain ourselves.
I don't think you would ever choose to to start
war with that being the reason why. But logically, take
away politics take over, and just I think it's you

without even giving in a whole lot of thought. Wouldn't
you know that you need to be able to come
back when it's all said and done, and even if
nobody agrees with you, not saying that nobody would agree,
but even if people didn't believe, didn't didn't agree with you,
didn't support it, they would at least be able to
look and see, okay, well you accomplished what you accomplished
and I wouldn't have done it, but you chose to

and and and you know, at least you at least
you were able to execute what you wanted to do
and you won your war essentially. But there was really
never any way to do that because again, all we
heard from the jump was eliminating the nuclear threat.

That's the biggest priority.

That's why, as I've said throughout the week, that's why
you heard Trump because again there was context when he
said he doesn't care about the affordability crisis in America,
he's not concerned about midterms. He loves inflation. I don't
really understand that last one, but the other two, you know,
he's saying that because he's wanting you to know that
there's nothing really that is a priority, because all the

focus is on the objective here, and that's eliminating the
nuclear threat from Iran. So there was legitimate context there. Now, again,
you've got to be smarter and know that you gave
a lot of a lot of Basically, you eliminated a
lot of the work for political ads.

You know what I mean.

You provided quotes that they're never going to include context.
And there's enough people that don't pay enough attention. They're
just gonna hear that, and that's gonna that's gonna make
an impression on him. So nonetheless, I mean, it still
was a silly thing to say. But again, the overall
goal was to make it to where we never have
to fear them when it comes to the nuclear weapons,
and there was never really any way you'd be able
to fully prove that because you can't, like, you're not them,

You're gonna need them to play ball a little bit.
And it was just a it was it was an
objective that was just unrealistic, not because of anybody's ability,
but just because that you you don't have control.

They have to actually do that. And even if they
told us and they signed something, it doesn't mean anything.
So I don't know.

Again, people have already made their mind up one way
or the other, if this was justified, if this was successful,
if it needed to happen, and they'll be able to
grasp selectively what they want in order to to feel
more confident and content in the way that in the
way they choose to see it.

the State Fair, you know, and you knew ever going
to be there too. Oh, I mean every.

because of the helicopter crash. And I remember when that happened.
That was it was tragic obviously, but uh yeah, just
a anytime somebody was to lose their life like that,
it's a tragedy. So I would act like it just
because they're celebrities. But that's what we do. Whenever there's
celebrities we know, we don't know them, but we feel

like we kind of do, right, We have some what
a connection, somewhat of a connection. And I mean I
remember I was at our old building and when the
news broke and it hit me at that point, like man,
I didn't listening to them in a while, but ye
there they are amazing. So yeah, good stuff here on
a Friday morning. All right, So I want to talk
quickly about the recent data as far as popular names

here in America, and I'll start with just names that
are surging in popularity. Roomy, I've never heard of that,
are you am? I that's really popular now?

Zoey heard of that?

Yeah, not at all surprised that it's growing. And then Genu,
I'm not even sure I'm saying that right now, j
I in you have you do you know a genu?

I don't know a genu. I know a geno? No genu.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
So then there's other names that are on the rise. Phoenix,
not at all surprise that's on the rise, Soul, don't
know a soul, so l. And then there's some nostalgia
driven names that are not in any way new but
have some momentum, and and one of them is Monica.

The other is Reese, which in fact, I have a
friend who who has a daughter that's named Reese. So
it's a baby too, by the way, so you know,
I can speak to that one. At least, it's still
there's still people choosing that as a as a as
a baby name. And there's gonna be names that have
their have their run right, and then there's gonna be
names that stick around forever. And I don't know why

I thought about this long ago, and it's never been
able to fully escape my brain. I think it was
whenever we were deciding what we were gonna name our children,
and we knew for a while what we were gonna have,
what we were gonna go with, regardless if we were
gonna have a boy girl or two boys two girls,
so we had our mind made up.

It was pretty easy.

But I'm glad we did because there's a lot of
options out there. You don't want to look back and
get it wrong. I think most people, regardless of what
you pick, you learn to love it because you love
your kid and it doesn't matter what their name is
I mean, maybe there are some parents with regret out there,
and or maybe there's some people listening that think, like, yeah,
my parents really set me up for that one. Like,
for example, there's a basketball coach I know who's whose

legal name is Richard. His name, his name is Dick Bender,
and your parents are cruel for that. I mean, that's
just you know, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're set up
to just be teased.

It's probably a family name.

He's probably he's probably the tenth Dick Bender in the family,
but still his name is Dick Bender. And uh as
a as a very immature kind of grown up, I'll
never not hear that name and and you know, and
be a juvenile.

That that that I think is just it's it's it's
a concern right now. There we haven't had any names
that are completely extinct, but we do have what I
would call they're they're endangered and you've got non true

I know Bernie's I don't know Bernard.

Yeah, like if I if I if I brought my
new child into work hypothetically speaking, I don't have a
kid on the way, and I was like, hey, everybody,
this is Bernard. People would look at me like I
was insane. Sure, right, Gary, Gary's not as rare. But
Gary had a real big wave. Gary was big in
the fifties. And there's a lot of Gary's out there

right now. Shout out to my Gary's listening this morning.
But Gary, just know there's not You're gonna have to
probably have a kid, or maybe your kid has a kid.
Keeps that, you know, out of you know, just wanting
to keep the families, you know, following the family's footsteps here.
Maybe they go with a Gary. But like, there's certain
names that I just can't imagine that by the time

I die, there's any whatever that is. Let's say I
live to be eighty years old, God willing that last
year that I'm here on earth, I can tell you
I will not be shocked if there's not a single
child born that year named Gary.

Now I'm thinking of Justin Bateman, who I absolutely loved
the movie Game Night if you've ever seen it, and
that movie has forever polarized me with the name Gary.

So every tell me I hear that name, I think
of Game Night.

When I hear Gary, I think of our neighborhood bully
when I was a kid, no joke, his name is
Gary and he I considered it a win if I
got home from the bus stop and he didn't. He
didn't mess with with us, the the young the younger kids.

way of bullying us.

So anyways, let me we'll look at this a little
bit more later on, just because I think I've got
some good examples that'll that will make you, that'll make
you realize, but real quick, there are some immortal names.

We got two John's on the show. John's never going away. William, Daniel, James, Elizabeth.
Those those have lasting life that I can't ever see
going away. Their classics. But then you know, you got
you got, uh, you got other names like, uh, what
about Clifford?

You know any Clifford's out there?

I used to read about him.

How about how about Norman? You know any baby Normans?

I know Norman. We have a Norman that works here, of.

Course, but he had a baby. Nobody gave him that
name in the last sixty years when looks, I know
these people exist. I'm just I'm talking about like new
like are the are they? Are there any new Normans
out there? What's the latest model of Norman? You know
what I'm saying right right?

Was so when you and your wife decided the name,
did one of you come up with the name and
the other way, Yeah, let's go with that, or was
it just how did you guys come about?

So with our son, we knew we always were going
to have uh not a moose by the way, that's
his nickname.

Didn't plan that, that just happened. It just happened.

Speaker 1 (18:29):
But we knew Mason was going to be the name,
and we ended up not having a boy. First, he's
the second, he's the youngest, so we we we had
that one in.

Speaker 2 (18:37):
The back pocket. I actually thought we.

Speaker 1 (18:39):
Could name a girl Mason and it wouldn't be that unusual,
which I still believe that, but I'm glad we didn't.
And once we found out it was a girl, we
hoped to eventually have what we had play out the
way it did. Where we had one of both and
my wife wanted to stick with the MS and go
with another M, and we oftentimes go to we don't

We actually haven't been since she was conceived, but rivier
Amaya is a place in Mexico. We go to a lot.
It's our place, and she was conceived there, not really
by plan, it just happened. So we decided to name
our daughter Maya, so we knew early on as soon
as it was going to be a girl, that's what
we went with. And we knew before we even had
the girl what we were going to name the boy.
So it worked out well for us. But I know

it can be a stressful thing and there's also a
time some pressure from family members that want to have
you keeping certain names around. So gave more revisit that
coming up a little bit later on. But I do
want to get you set for our conversation that we
have each and every morning with the one and only

You know, Vice President Vance was supposed to be in
Switzerland today to actually start some of the talks. Remember
the President signed this document in the Palace of Versailles
outside Paris, and Vice President Vance said that sixty day
clock for the negotiations started on Thursday. Well, he was
supposed to be off to Switzerland today, but the White

House says no, that's been canceled, in part because Israel
continues to launch attacks into Lebanon and Iran. Under the
terms of this memorandum of understanding Iran is the deal
is you're supposed to stop hostilities on all fronts. That
means Iran should not be attacking. That means Israel should

not be attacking Lebanon under terms of this MoU.

Isn't this a reminder that when it comes to executing
what you want to accomplish, you don't have control over everybody, right,
like you, right, we can't control it, Yeah, exactly. I
mean it's it's just not something that you really can
I mean you can, you can try, but obviously, at
the end of the day, you literally can't truly force
anybody to do anything in these other countries. And I

think that was a pretty It's something that seems rather obvious,
but no doubt it's been something we've learned.

your selling the house I'm buying. All we did was
agree on our price. Now we have to go through closing, yep.

But it is anything can come up during the closing process,

All right, So today's Juneteenth, and there's a big event.
The Barack Obama Library in Chicago is opening up. I'll
admit I'm a little late to learning about this this
whole project. But clearly it was a big project. A
lot went into it. What are we expecting today as
far as a ceremony here?

Speaker 5 (22:00):
Well, right, so the doors are opening today. They had
a big deal yesterday. All the former presidents showed up,
The Clintons were there, the Bushes were there, Joe Biden
was there, and of course the Obamas to dedicate this.
They had a lot of performers as well, a lot
of music Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, and a host of others.
Christina Aguilera was also there, John Legend, Common and Jennifer Hudson.

So a lot was there. A lot was done yesterday
in Chicago for what many say is one ugly building.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
I have seen a lot of people saying that.

Speaker 5 (22:34):
Who have you seen the building?

Speaker 1 (22:36):
Oh?

Yeah it is yeah?

Who okay, but yeah, two hundred and twenty five feet tall.
But there's more than just the library of the presidential
archives are in there. But it's also got a public library,
like a branch of the Chicago Library. There's a park,
swing sets, there's even a basketball court. Since President Obama
was such a fan of play or is such a
fan of playing basketball.

Rory I know you're gonna be out next week, so
I want you to enjoy your downtime. Last time I asked,
you just told me about all the adult, responsible type
of things you have to do, which say, that's life.
But find some time to enjoy yourself.
