Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's been a busy Wednesday morning, and I appreciate you
hanging out with us. It is Coffee and Company, and
we are fueled by Thornton's. A lot of options when
it comes to breakfast at Thornton's. So if you are
just now getting your day started and you need breakfast,
I mean they say it's the most important meal of
the day, I'll trust them, and I can tell you
that Thornton's you can trust them. When it comes to

(00:20):
the options. They've got a lot of good options, including
biscuits and gravy, which is a new item that they
offer for breakfast, among many great delicious items including the
very convenient and maybe this is just what you need,
the delicious doughnut. They've got a lot of good options
to choose from when it comes to donuts. But you
can get a donut and a cup of coffee for
just three bucks. So again we are filled by Thorntons.

(00:42):
And if you've yet to sign up to become a
member of the Refreshing Awards program, you should. You'll save
money at the pump and you can save up to
twenty cents off per gallon once per week. So go
to Refreshing Awards dot Com or download the app, and
I believe that you will be happy that you did so.
As mentioned, been busy a lot that we have discussed
throughout the morning here, and one of those things that's
been what happened last night with the Kentucky basketball program,

(01:04):
a loss to a good Michigan State team. They now
have two losses on the year, and it's early, but
both losses are against top twenty teams. But I think
the hope for Kentucky fans was you bounce back with
a win with value after suffering a loss to your
rival just a week earlier in a game that, yeah,

(01:27):
you made it close late Louisville also missed seven straight
free throws to make it seem a little closer than
it was, and you at times were very much so
on the verge of getting blown out. So if you
bounce back you beat a good Michigan State team, you
can not forget about the loss to your rival, but
at least feel better about the path ahead. And that

(01:47):
was the exact opposite kind of result that you saw
last night, because Michigan State really dominant in that game.
And Mark Pope, I think he's a really good coach,
I think last year he was a factor in them
having the successful season more so than the product that
he had to work with. That's not a knock on
any of the players. I just think at times, especially

(02:09):
when they had some injuries, he found a way to
make it work with what he had to use. And
I think he's going to now have to do that
once again because I think the way he wants to
play is going to be a recipe for disaster. Honestly,
one because he just doesn't have the guys that fit
what he wants to do shooters, but also Jalen Lowe.

(02:30):
I mean, he doesn't he doesn't have a top tier
point guard available and that changes things, and that would
change anything, that would change things for any team. So
a tough loss, and you could tell last night he
was he was he was bothered by it, and I
think as a fan, I'm I'm not a UK fan,
but I mean that you it won't make you feel better,
But that's really best case scenario to at least know

(02:52):
that your coach is aware that things are not well
and he's going to do everything he can to get
it to get it fixed. But there's a fine line
between acknowledging the disappointment and not running from it, not
being sensitive. There's a fine line between that and then
I think wearing your concerns because if anything, he's honest.

(03:15):
I think what you saw and what you heard last
night was genuine. But I'll use the word Matt Jones
used in his postgame show to describe Pope last night.
It was just it was odd to see just kind
of how dejected he was when he does his postgame
interview with Tom Leach, and that's, of course, after his
press conference that he does after a game. That's really

(03:36):
his chance to tell the fans, to talk to the
fans and sort of you know, have that Q and
A with the voice of the Wildcats, Tom Leach, and
rarely are you going to be able to say anything
after a eighty three to sixty six loss. That's going
to make everybody feel great, but it's at least a
chance to get a message out there, and he missed
that chance. He was pretty short with Tom Leach, and

(03:57):
when asked, would you tell your team, he just simply replied,
we told him a lot of things and just kind
of left it at that. So, look, nothing he could
have said would have made people forget about it, but
it does seem as if he seemed he's, you know,
he's worried. Do you remember John after they lost to
to Georgetown in the exhibition game. I mentioned a comment
he made that just kind of seemed kind of seemed

(04:19):
to odd because it's probably what most coaches would tell
you privately, not publicly. But he just said, look, if
we don't rely on working together, we're gonna you know,
I'm paraphrasing, but essentially we're not good enough to just
go beat teams because of our individual players. And some
can say that was well, he's just saying the guy's
got to work together, and he's right, But also, you know,

(04:41):
it also isn't a sign that, like you, you think
you have a lot of talent. I guess you would
hope that your team would be mature and understand the message.
But that may have been a sign that he realized
that this team may not be able to live up
to what expectations they have. So, you know, last night
it might have just been the ultimate realization of Okay,
this isn't going well and I got to get it

(05:01):
figured out. But you know, for him to reference a
pre game situation with his team and then never tell
anybody what it was. I mean that that's just that's
that's I think of mistake on his part because it
just doesn't make any sense. Right. So before, right after

(05:23):
the Louisville game, he said, you know, there was there
was something that happened where we you know, we didn't
have our emotions and check. I'm not going to tell
you what it is. Maybe I'll do it down the line,
but like that's just opening up a door for people
to walk into and just do nothing but speculate about
potential team turmoil. And I think clearly there's something going on,

(05:44):
but saying that at all was an odd move. But
it might be him just not being able to resist
being transparent to an extent to let you know that
behind closed doors, they've got some toxicity they got to
get figured out. So again, I still think he's got it.
He's got enough coaching chops to use what he has
and put a better product on the floor than what
Kentucky fans saw last night. But they saw last night

(06:07):
was not good. I mean, fifty percent shooting for Michigan
State overall and from the three point line, Kentucky shot
twenty three percent from three to thirty five percent. Overall,
you got out rebounded forty two to twenty eight on
the glass. Michigan state they had twenty five assists on
thirty two midfield goals. Kentucky just thirteen assists. So they

(06:30):
can only go up from here, right, And look, there's
all kinds of things you could point to. That's that's concerning.
That's a factor. But one of them, and the biggest one, actually,
I believe, is that Otega Away came back as the
preseason eight SEC player of the Year, and he's to
say that he's not been that would be an understatement.
All right, quick update of trafficking weathers on the way.
We'll keep it rolling along here. Roy O'Neil said to
join us at about eight thirty five, so stick around

(06:53):
for that. It's news Radio eight forty whas So, the
president of UPS was in town yesterday for the latest
update from Mayor Greenberg and Louisville leaders in regards to
the plane crash that two weeks ago devastated this community
and certainly something we'll remember around here for a long
long time. And right now, as as businesses are trying

(07:16):
to get back to their place of business, trying to
get everybody back to work or making arrangements if that's
just not doable because of the damage. You know, that's
sort of where we are right now as far as
just trying to to take step by step in this
this process of getting closure. Obviously, there's still people that
are that are grieving in a way that hopefully I
never I mean, I can't imagine, and I hope I

(07:38):
never can't. I hope I never am experiencing what they're
experiencing now with losing somebody in the way in which
they did. But another part is just the investigation from
the NTSB, and that will be a lengthy investigation when
it comes to it being it being fully closed off
and concluded. But we are getting updates here and there,
and this is something I wanted to share with you guys,

(07:59):
just because if you're like me and you're not familiar
with an NTSB investigation and really just the process overall,
you know, there's a lot to learn, and as you
could expect, it's there's there's a lot that goes into it.
But there is a protocol that the NTSB has the
full cockpit audio it does not get published, so there's
a specialized CVR group that will instead prepare a transcript

(08:22):
that has the pertinent information. Now we also know that
that could take up to that could take many months
before that actually ends up ends up happening. So again,
the left engine detaching during takeoff, that of course is
that was viewed in the security footage that they were
able to obtain, and the belief is that, of course
was a big factor in the entire crash. And yeah,

(08:46):
the the rubble as they call it, that is still there.
I mean, it's not surprising when you just you know,
if you will go back in time with me too,
two weeks ago, I guess it's fifteen days ago the
evening whenever this took place and you saw the fire,
just the visual of it is just almost didn't seem real.
I mean, go back to that moment and when you

(09:08):
saw it, rather it be in person because you were
within you were you were close enough, or if you
just were watching it from the w l K y
chopper cam like like like I was, and many others
where I mean, it's there's levels of devastation that that
you know, the level I guess I should say it
wouldn't there's no level of it that would be shocking
just because of of what that can do. And uh,

(09:29):
I believe our Louisville, our local leaders that did tour,
that did that made their they walked through the side
of the crash days after. I think their their reaction
was very genuine as far as it just being something
that you know, you can't imagine and you hope to
never see it again. I mean, I thought that was
pretty chilling to see just what what devastation that they

(09:50):
were able to see. So it'll be something we keep
up with until it's completely in the rear view, but
again it's something we'll always remember for a long long time.

Rory O'Neal going to join us at about eight thirty five,
so stick around. Also in between there, how can I
forget We've got another news update coming from the one
and only John Shannon, So you're in good hands the
rest of the morning with us right here at News

(11:16):
Radio eight forty whas final segment for us here on
a Wednesday morning, we'll hand it off to Tony and
Dwight coming up here shortly, but one more segment with us,
You're not done with us just yet. It is Coffee
and Company and we are Field about Thornton's here at
news Radio eight forty whas Nick Coffee. That's me and
the Johns, John Alden and John Shannon. So one of

(11:38):
the rare shows this day and age that generates enough
attention that people will want to watch it live or
watch it as soon as it's available, meaning as soon
as they can, because they don't win anybody to spoil it,
because people will be talking about what happened, because there's
so much interest in this kind of show. And the
latest one is Landman. Yes, and you you're a fan.

(12:01):
I love it as well, and you've so they are
they It's just one episode right so far.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
Our first episode of season two.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
Billy about Thornton, How he's great.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
He's awesome.

Speaker 1 (12:09):
Writing is really good. The first season. We loved it,
my wife and I did. But not only is it
rare to want to watch a show as soon as
possible because you feel like you'll be unable to avoid
spoilers with people you know, your Facebook feed, that kind
of stuff, it's also something you only get once a week,
and nowadays, so many shows that people just you know,

(12:30):
obsess over, you binge them, and you watch them because
they're Hey. Season one it's now available on Netflix. Season two,
you know now both one and two are on Amazon Prime.
And that's just how I feel like a lot of
shows are are are consumed this day and age. This
one is is a throwback, as they say, did it So?
I think there are shows I've watched that if I

(12:51):
couldn't have binged it, I wouldn't have stuck through. And
and that's made me appreciate the you know, the fact
that we can now just you know, watch it on
our own time. Like if I had to wait week
by week for Breaking Bad, I don't know if I
would have enjoyed it as much. It's not the only
show that's like that for me, but yeah, you're waiting
week to week, and it's because it's actually a television show,

(13:12):
meaning it's it's made to be weekly where they hope
to get as many viewers as possible. And I would
imagine they probably don't have a lot of competition. I mean,
maybe I'm just not. Maybe I'm not maybe I'm missing
out on other shows that are generating this kind of interest.
But they did a great job of promoting it. Billy
about Thornton doing the car wash and showing up all
over TV talk shows and just letting everybody know, hey,
season two is about the debut. So I'm gonna watch it,

(13:33):
but I'm gonna wait. I'm gonna sit back and wait.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
See. I think I think some of it is more
of a a little bit of a generational gap with
you and me. Not that much, but I grew up
in that generation where everything that you wanted to see
was weekly, and then you have and then you had
to wait all summer for the cliffhanger. A lot of
people these days it's just instance so they can just
watch the whole thing and not have to wait. So
you said the binge watching, but I kind of like
that anticipation of Okay, I've got to Okay, i gotta Oh,

(13:58):
it's eight o'clock Sunday night, I've got to watch Landman
because it's coming up.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
I think another benefit is that it lasts as long
as you know, if you're going week by week, you
can only go as quick as as quick as that,
So I've at times ben shows where I know I'm
getting towards the end that I'm bummed because like it's
about to be over already. I didn't really let it,
you know, let it let it last. So yeah, I
mean I grew up the same way with shows that
it was just a known thing that you know, we're

(14:22):
gonna either we watch it live or we set the
DVR and watch it as soon as possible. Well, now
you know this, there's show like, for example, HBO. I
have HBO Max and they have a lot of good
original shows. There's a new one that that was a
weekly update and upload essentially for them on HBO's network.
But of course, like a lot of networks, if you
have a streaming service, it'll just be there right after

(14:44):
or the next day. And we watched a show called
Task on HBO and I'd heard good things about it,
And what really got me was I heard it was
from the creators or maybe the writers of Mayor of Eastown,
which is also another HBO show that I really like.
Did you watch that one? You check it out? You
would love that. Actually, by the way, now that I
think about it, it's good. But tak Is it's from
that those same folks, and it's really really good and

(15:05):
I would have stuck through because that's how good it
was week by week. But the wife and I finished
it really in two nights, which I think tells you
how much we like. But Mark Mark Ruffalo is in
it and just a really good true crime drama. I
love it. I love a crime drama that throughout like
you really never know where it's gonna land at the end,
you know, yeah, but land, man, I uh, I can't wait.

(15:25):
I'll be I'll be late compared to others. But uh,
it was such a such a Now is this is
this a Taylor Sheridan Yes, Okay, Taylor Sheridan, Yes, explains
why it's so good? Nice it does. Do you have
how many streaming services do you like? Are you you go?
Are you loyal to one? Or do you have them all?

Speaker 2 (15:41):
I've got YouTube TV, I've got well, I got the
Disney package to pick up ESPN, so I've got that
now for a year, and really yeah, got Netflix, got
Netflilix for the kids because they like the cartoons on there,
the Coco mel and stuff for the grandkids. And then uh,
Paramount Plus because of Team Opien.

Speaker 1 (15:58):
Yeah, and Paramount Plus has some good original shows. They
do they do all right, We're out of here. Tony
Dwight coming your way next right here at news Radio
eight forty whis
