Speaker 1 (00:00):
Happy Friday, Kentucky and it is Kentucky and morning news
here at News Radio eight forty whas coffee and Company
with you, and we are fueled by Thorntons. Keep them
in mind for breakfast. A lot of good options when
it comes to breakfast, including a new breakfast item biscuits
and gravy. There's a lot of good ways to eat
breakfast breakfast. I mean just think about all the different
types of that. You can have an omelet, scrambled eggs,
(00:21):
you could have French toast, you could go donuts. Just
to breakfast is phenomenal, and they've got a lot of
good options at Thornton's. But I'm telling you, biscuits and
gravy just in general one of the best, one of
the best. I mean, take not even just breakfast, just
food in general. Biscuits and gravy very delicious. And if
I was you, I would have head to one of
the Thorntons nearby and get them before they're gone. And
(00:43):
if you are in Kentucky, NA, there's likely Thornton's near
you because they're everywhere.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
That's how that's how much.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
They've been in demand over the years. So again we
certainly appreciate our friends over there. Thornton's right. So quick
update on the traffic situation. Not off to a good
start here on a Friday morning. We've got a crash
at I sixty four east just passed I two sixty
four that is causing a real issue with all lanes blocked.
And I'm looking here at the traffic cam, and you
(01:10):
know you oftentimes hear people reference, well, it's a parking
lot when they refer to a traffic jam. That's quite
literally what it looks like because there's no movement at all.
And I guess that's what you would expect when you
have all lanes blocked, So be advised again, all lanes
blocked I sixty four East just past I two sixty four. Also,
we've got a vehicle fire at I sixty four near
(01:31):
Blanken Baker Parkway as you get close to that blank
and Baker Parkway exit. Again it's I sixty four east,
so that is causing some issues as well. It doesn't
look as if as if all lanes are blocked here,
but there's certainly some delays. And yeah, it looks like
right lanes and right shoulder are the right two lanes
and the right shoulder are blocked there, so again be advised.
(01:51):
All right, so big news yesterday we got another update
from the NTSB and this one certainly gave us some
more information as far as what happened that tragic plane
crash a couple of weeks ago. And we'll let you
hear a little more about the details that we got
from from the NTSB. We'll let you hear our own
Paul Miles in his story yesterday on it. But the
(02:12):
report includes previously unseen images that show the left engine
and pylons separating from the wing during the takeoff and
then you can see it immediately catches fire. So there's
six photos I believe in the sequence that they shared,
and photos two, three, and four highlight that specific sequence
the left engine and the pylon separating from the wing
(02:34):
during takeoff, and again you see it it catches fire.
We also now know that the first officer lead true
at of Albuquerque was the pilot flying the aircraft at
the time of that crash. That I believe is new information.
And then also this is something that probably should be said,
but I think most people realize this. But if not,
this doesn't really do anything as far this is just
(02:55):
another update throughout what will be probably many updates and
what will be a very lengthy investigation. So this is
still very much an ongoing investigation and there is no
there's no cause officially that has been determined here, and
a final report could take up to a year. I
mean it could take longer than that. You just really
never know. Again, these things are very extensive for good reason.
But when it comes to what we learned about the
(03:17):
aircraft specifically as far as just the fatigue cracks and
the structural issues that it had. This is from Paul
Miles story yesterday again our own Paul Miles here at
news Radio eight forty whas the.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
National Transportation Safety Boards report focuses on fatigue cracking within
the left engine pylon, which connects the engine to the
plane's wing. Airport surveillance video obtained by investigators shows the
left engine and pylon separating from the wing moments after rotation.
When the plane begins to leave the ground, A fire
(03:47):
ignited on the engine as it flew above the fuselage.
The NTSB found evidence of fatigue cracks in addition to
areas of overstressed failure in parts of the pylon. A
final report with a probable cause of the crash is
not expected for at least a year.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
So as somebody with no aviation experience, And really I
wouldn't say I'm learning a whole lot, but I'm at
least reading more about it than I ever thought I
would give in the situation that we have here. But
the first thing comes to mind for me is how
to something as critical as an engine pylon develop cracks
and overstress failures that go unnoticed. Now maybe it did
(04:27):
get noticed, but it wasn't. It didn't hit the threshold
of where they would take action and pull this in
D eleven from being being used. So these are questions,
and there's many more that the investigate. The investigation is
going to try to uncover to where we get to
the final the final report which will give us the
cause of this. But so far it certainly seems as
(04:48):
if is if they're you know, getting I don't know
what to compare it to never followed an investigation from
start to finish from the NTSB, But I think we've
got some decent updates to start here, just a couple
of so. Another thing to mention is yesterday's update Governor
Vasher responding and just urging Kentuckians to wrap their arms
around these victims families as we head into the Thanksgiving holiday,
(05:10):
because obviously everybody impacted to an extent in this community
with what happened, but no one impacted more than those
who've lost loved ones with this tragic, tragic situation. All right,
stick with us, We've got a lot more to get
into a busy morning. LPED spokesman Dwight Mitchell's going to
join us coming up at about seven o'clock. Looking forward
to chatting with him, and then also Mary Greenberg, He's
(05:32):
gonna be on with us at eight o'clock this morning,
so stick around. It's Coffee and Company, Kentucky in his
Morning News, and we're fieldbuth Thornton's right here at News
Radio eight forty whas.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Happy Friday to you.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
It is Kentucky and his Morning News News Radio eight
forty whas Nick Coffee, that's me full crew is with
us today. The company man John Alden alongside John Shannon
and Scott Fitzgerald will be back in with another sports
update coming up here shortly. Appreciate you hanging out with us.
Don't forget you could take us with you wherever you go.
Listen live on the Aheart Radio Apple. Also listen live
at WHAS dot com. It looks as if, and I'm
(06:05):
just basing it off of our recent updates from Bobby
Ellis as well as the traffic cams that we have
access to. Still a real rough situation to get this
Friday started with some accidents. We've got a crash that
has still all lanes blocked on the let's see, well, yeah,
all lanes.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
Let's see. Here we go.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
It looks like we're having some real time updates here,
so you're getting you're getting the latest. It looks as
if the all lanes blocked. It looks as if they're
making some progress there, which is encouraging because the last
visual I saw was not a good one. It was
quite literally a parking lot on the interstate. But that
was at the That was on I sixty four East,
just as you as you just passed I sixty four. Yeah,
(06:50):
so I sixty four East just passed I sixty four
is where there was an accident that caused all lanes
being blocked. It looks like now it's just the right
lanes and the right shoulder. Yeah, so the right two
lanes and the right shoulder are blocked there, so they're
making progress. And then also there is a vehicle fire
that has caused some issues that is on I sixty
four East as you approach Blanken Baker Parkway. Right two
(07:11):
lanes and the right shoulder block there as well because
of a vehicle fire. So again we'll keep you updated
throughout the morning. Bobby Ellis has another update coming for
you before you know it, so stick around for that.
I know there's many of you listening that is in
the path of your commute and you could be impacted,
so again stay tuned here at eight forty whas for
the latest. All right, let's talk about my friends out
at Track kenny Ford. The month of November is rolling
(07:33):
on and that means you're running out of time to
take advantage of a phenomenal deal that they've got going
on right now. So Track kenny Ford you can get
zero percent financing for sixty months and no payments for
ninety days on these four models, the twenty twenty five fifty,
the twenty twenty five Explorer, the twenty twenty five Escape
in the twenty twenty five Transit Vans, so four different
(07:54):
options all new Fords, and again a great, great deal,
zero percent financing for sixty months and no payment for
ninety days. It is a Trick County Ford. Exit eighteen
off BY seventy one, just outside of Louisville and Oldham County.
Go see them, Tell them I sensia, and again you
will not only see the great selection they have and
the great customer service they have, but it's an experience
(08:16):
that may surprise you. If you've got some perception of
any time you walk into any car lot across the country,
you're just gonna get hassled and pressured and annoyed, that
is not at all the experience that you'll come to
expect at Track County Ford. Their customer service speaks for itself.
That's how they've been able to have such a long
(08:36):
standing history and such a great reputation. So again, Trick
County Ford, just outside of Louisville, Exit eighteen off Bus
seventy one, go see them, Tell them, I sensha. All
right again, we've got more updates coming your way. We'll
get the latest on the traffic issues we have this morning. Also,
get a look at this forecast. Is this gloom? It
won't go away, and I don't think it's going to
go away today, but Matt Melosevitch will get us updated
on that. We've also got sports coming up here in
(08:58):
just a few minutes, So stick around, hang with us,
keep it locked, keep it where you got it. At
news Radio eight forty WHAS. Happy Friday, everybody, It is
Kentucky and it is morning news. Coffee and company with
you here at news Radio eight forty w h AS.
We are now six days away from Thanksgiving, and we
have some Thanksgiving etiquette tips that are out there that
(09:22):
I want to share with you. So I this is
this is one of those things that I'm just gonna
share it because maybe part of me is sharing because
I feel like it's interesting. But also sometimes I'll share
things and just hope that you guys, you take this
info the same way that I do. Because some of
these things that I that I share throughout, when it
comes to different surveys things like that, it just makes
(09:45):
me feel like, hey, maybe I'm not real, Maybe I'm
not as relatable to the common person.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
As I as I thought I was.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
But any anyhow, there is a there's an etiquette conversation
to be had here. So a lot of things that
apparently people think are polite at Thanksgiving are actually driving
the hosts of Thanksgiving crazy. So here are some some
some some talking points here from this this breakdown bringing
your own leftover containers. So, if you're hosting Thanksgiving John Alden,
(10:14):
and I bring a leftover container, would you take that
any any anyway?
Speaker 4 (10:18):
I would take it in no way. I'd be like, Wow,
somebody's prepared.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
You're not gonna steal. They're not going to steal yours? Right, No. Yeah.
So so but this is what it says.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
You may think it's smart, you might think it's efficient,
but unless the host specifically asked you to bring containers,
showing up with a stack of tupperware makes you look
like you're here to raid the fridge.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
If leftovers are offered, use the dish you broad.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
Now, if you come in and you have, again, like
you're bringing in a whole tub of things to put
leftovers in, that would look a little a little weird.
I get what they're saying that.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Yeah, I mean it looks as if you are not
only here, It just looks like you're you're gonna be stingy,
You're gonna want to eat and you're gonna want.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
To take some with you.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
Yeah, yeah, so maybe keep it in the car and
then if it gets to that point then.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
You've got it available.
Speaker 4 (10:56):
That's the way to do it.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
And this this is this is I think a pretty
opt one, but it's giving cooking advice that nobody's asked for.
He says, even if you've watched every season of Top Chef,
unless the host looks you in the eyes and begs
for help, keep the culinary commentary to yourself. If you
want to help, do something simple like you know, helping
people hang up their coats or pouring drinks. Yeah, I mean,
that's just that's etiquette in general, regardless of we're talking
(11:19):
Thanksgiving or whenever. That I mean, if you have a
bad meal that somebody prepared, the chances of them being
told that directly, I feel like as a real rarity.
And I don't even mean like insulting the person saying, hey,
who made this meat loaf?
Speaker 2 (11:34):
It sucks.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
It's more so just like even asking a pointed question
about an item can be a tell that you don't
necessarily like it. I learned that without really I've at
times asked questions about food that my wife is prepared
and genuinely I'm enjoying it. I just ask a question,
and you know, it gives her the indication that I'm
questioning if she made it the right way. And I
(11:57):
now not to stay away from that, because you know,
she's she's to cook and I need her to keep
cooking for me, and she's, uh, she's really good at it.
Although she's somebody who's a really good cook but doesn't
like cooking. A lot of people who are good cooks,
I feel like they know that's their strength.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
They like doing it. My sister's a.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
Really good cook, and she likes cooking. My wife, on
the other hand, if she never had to make us
some meals, she'd be fine. But but we need you to, honey,
you do a good job at it, and Lord knows,
we'd be in trouble. If I was responsible for cooking.
It'd be a lot of things you just throw in
the air fryer and uh and and hope that.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
It works out all right.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
Some other some other things to mention here as far
as Thanksgiving etiquette, etiquette, bringing ingredients for a dish the
host ends up making this. Some of these things are
just obvious, like if you bring ingredients and you're not
and you weren't tasked to do that or prepare anything.
You're just giving the You're giving them the belief that
you don't believe they're gonna be able to get it done. Now,
maybe you know that and you're just saying, hey, look,
(12:49):
I'm here to save the entire Thanksgiving family dinner because
you're responsible and I know you can't. You can't get
it done. Maybe that's just being direct.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
But yeah.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
Now, if I was reading dinner though, and somebody cam
up to me and said that'd be like, you know what,
you can finish the meal, man, I don't want to
have nothing to do with this. I'd walk away immediately
and say you're cooking or you're going home.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
So I've always been lucky that any Thanksgiving event that
I go to, and I've gone to many over the years,
really mostly just my family and then of course my
in laws and I always look forward to it because
we eat like crazy. But I'm sure there are people
listening right now that have gone to the same Thanksgiving
celebration every year and they love it. They enjoy being
(13:27):
with family, they're celebrating the great holiday that is Thanksgiving.
But they also just know that the people preparing the
food don't do a great job.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
I mean, I'm not. Let's be not.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
Everybody's a great cook, right, There's gonna be many, many,
many meals prepared across the entire country next Thursday.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
I mean, not every one of them is gonna be great.
Speaker 4 (13:44):
Well, let's face it, Turkey is one of the hardest
meat to not make taste bland.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
Yeah, yeah, I And everybody claims they've got their their
own way of doing it and whatnot, But yeah, I
mean I've I've had turkey that was you know, It's
not as if I'm inspecting it each time I have
different turkey. But yes, it's something that can easily be
messed up, and everybody seems to have a strong opinion
on it.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
I'm more of a Ham guy, you know. I mean,
I like both, but yeah, Ham.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
If I was forced to choose one, I would probably
end up picking Ham. But then again, you know, the
gravy with the turkey, get the potatoes as well as
the stuffing. It kind of seems like it's just needed
to be there. We want to do both, right, don't
make me choose one. I'll do both, all right. Let's
get to a quick time out. We've got traffic and
weather updates on the way, and we've got Dwight Mitchell
here with us in studio. You'll join us coming up
at seven o'clock as we keep this thing rolling along. Also,
(14:36):
don't forget Mayor Greenberg going to join us at eight o'clock.
So we've got a busy Friday morning here, and I
hope you stick around right here at News Radio eight
forty whas we still have some big time traffic issues
out there. A vehicle fire at I sixty four East
as you get close to Blanke and Baker Parkway. They're
working to clear that up, but right now right two
lanes in the right shoulder are still blocked. That's according
(14:59):
to Trimark. Again, Bobby Ellis will keep us updated as
he has throughout the morning. But there was also another
issue where there was an accident I sixty four East
just past I sixty four that at one point had
all lanes blocked after a crash that happened about five
point thirty this morning. But now it looks as if
the right two lanes and the right shoulder of blocks,
so they're getting some cars through, but be prepared this
(15:21):
morning for a potential delay in getting wherever you're getting
because we've got some big time traffic issues. But again
we'll keep you updated throughout the morning with Bobby Ellis.
Your next update coming up here in just a few moments.
All right, real quick, you guys have heard me talk
about my friends over the Jefferson Animal Hospital for for
a while now for obvious reasons. They have been around
for a long time, forty five years. They've been opened
(15:43):
twenty four to seven three sixty five with the doctor
on site. When an emergency happens to your pet, emergencies
aren't prepared, you don't prepare for them, they're not planned.
But when it happens, you need to know who you
can trust and they're going to be there for you.
And this is something a little bit heavy to discuss,
but it speaks to you just what what they do
for folks in a time that is that is tough.
(16:04):
There's always the time at some point where you reach
the end for your pet, and there's obviously a process
that you go through whenever whenever that happens, and it's
again it's a heavy thing to to deal with, but
people have to deal with it, and I've had more
people reference my partnership with the with the with Whicheverson
Animal Hospital with those situations where they they they they
(16:28):
got to the end with their dog or maybe their cat,
and obviously they were advised in what was probably the
best option for them, and that's a difficult thing to
go through, but their their memory of it and their
experience was just that and what can be as you
could imagine, a very tough thing to deal with, and
I'm sure it was. They felt very comfortable and felt
as if it couldn't have been better as far as
(16:49):
just dealing with that with the team over at the
Jeff's Animal Hospital.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
So again, if you if you've.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
Yet to get your your pet a regular doctor, just
getting check ups things like that. It's not just for emergencies,
obviously that's important to know, but when it comes to
just getting your pets checked out, obviously they can't communicate
with you what they're dealing with, what they're going through,
and you never know, so again, always good to just
get them checked out. And Jefferson in the hospital, they've
got two locations here in Louisville, one on outer Loop,
(17:15):
one in fern Creek, and again you can check them
out online at Jefferson Vets dot com, give them a
call at five O two nine hundred pets and you
can tell them tell them I sent you. All right again,
We'll get updates on the traffic situation right here, right now. Also,
we'll take a look at the forecast. At this gloomy
weather won't seem to go away. We'll see if Matt
Melosa bitch can give us some good news there. And
another sports update, a busy, busy sports weekend. We've got
(17:36):
a couple of basketball games tonight, Louisville heading to take
on Cincinnati. Rivalry renewed and curious to see what the
turnout is. I imagine there'll be a good crowd there.
I'm sure some Louisville fans will be making the trip
up and Cincinnati. You know, I don't know if they
view us the way we view them, but it used
to just be a given that you're gonna play them
a couple of times every year, maybe a third time
if you meet him in the conference tournament. And it's
(17:58):
been been a while since these two teams played, so
looking forward to that. All right, stick around, it's coffee
and company. We're fueled by thorntons right here at news
Radio eight forty whas
