right now to any of the moms celebrating Mother's Day

how great they are. That is Sunday and really every
other day, Happy Mother's Day. Skyline makes a great Mother's
Day gift, whether you take mom to Skyline or grab
some Skyline Chili gift cards, that is the way to
(02:17):
do it. From a top story standpoint, Rookie Mini Camp
is underway. For the Cincinnati Bengals. We'll check in with
rookie Mini Camp Austin, did you see what the Texans
did with their second round selection? I did the Texans
take their second round selection and make him the first
(02:39):
second round draft pick in NFL history to have a
fully guaranteed contract four years eleven point seven million dollars
to Jaden Higgins, all guaranteed. Why would the Texans do that?
In your opinion, Austin, why not reset the market dollars
put pressure on everybody else? Really not much. Let's just
(02:59):
guarantee all tracks. That's what I'd like to do.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
It's not that much.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Let's guarantee everything. The Timberwolves, they overcome a scare last
night where Anthony Edwards had to be helped off the floor.
They hold off the Golden State Warriors. Edwards did return
to the game and the Wolves beat the Warriors without
Stephen Curry, who said he's not going to rush his
timeline to make it back because of the nature of
(03:24):
the injury and being the first time he's ever went
through it. But the timber Wolves win last night. They
even up the series. Two different series going in different directions. Tonight,
Indy returns home with a two zero lead against the
Cleveland Cavaliers tonight, and the series noted at One Oklahoma
City in Denver also is going to happen tonight. FC
cincinnatial host Austin FC tomorrow. As mentioned, we'll talk to
(03:47):
Tom Gallairder about that in just a couple hours. A
couple college basketball pieces here, Sean Miller. Listen to these numbers.
The Texas Board of Regents has approved Texas Longhorns new
(04:07):
basketball coach Sean Miller's six year, thirty two million dollars
guaranteed contract thirty two million. They are going to pay
Sean Miller double what his predecessor, Rodney Terry made at Texas.
So shout out to Sean Miller. Six years, thirty two
(04:28):
million dollars, all of it guaranteed from Texas. That is
not all from a college basketball standpoint. How about this,
you see Wes Miller, Louisville Pat Kelsey. They have agreed
on a back to back neutral site game contract. Next
(04:52):
year twenty twenty five, Louisville is gonna play you see
at Heritage Bank Arena, and then in twenty twenty six,
you see is gonna play Louisville at Freedom Hall down
there in Louisville. I am pumped up about that because
I think you See and Louisville are one of those rivalries,
rivalries that should play every year. I think that is
awesome to see and uh, pretty cool stuff going on.
From a college hoops standpoint. Yes, we're going to get
(05:16):
into the Reds. Yes, we're going to get into another
disaster of a loss, five to four, another extra inning loss.
They are zero to four and extra inning games this year.
We'll dive into all the sad statistics. We've got to
ask an Elie da la Cruz question. We've got to
talk about this defense. I thought, over the course of
the game last night, one of the worst games from
a situational at bat standpoint I've ever watched the defense.
(05:38):
Lets this team down. There are positives, you know. On
the show yesterday, Austin I bought Reese Hines. I bought him. Yeah,
he had a good game last He bought his stock.
I bought the Reshine stock. Yeah, you bought the stock
skyrocketing right now? And that stock are you going to
It might be by low sell high type of mente
(06:00):
right now. But we'll talk about the missed opportunities for
the Reds. Latest on the injury or front, Injury Front,
and a weekend series now at Houston that the Reds
are getting ready to embark on. I wanted to ask you, Austin,
because there's more now going around as it relates to
Bill Belichick and North Carolina. Now I've been I've been
(06:25):
back and forth on this because I wasn't following along closely,
and now I feel like I'm following along very closely.
A report came out. I like Pablo Tory. Do you
like Pablo Austin?
Speaker 4 (06:37):
I love Pablo.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
So Pablo came out with a report essentially stating that
North Carolina has banned Bill Belichick's girlfriend, Jordan Hudson, from
UNC's football facility. This is from Pablo Torri broke this
and it's been everywhere this morning. He also added that
one Belichick family source said there is a deep worry
(07:00):
for how detrimental Jordan can be for not just North Carolina,
but Bill's legacy, reputation and everything he has built and
worked for over decades. Pablo Tory goes into a story
about a commercial that was filmed with Bill Belichick sitting
by a pool last year calling his players, where Jordan
essentially hijacked the set, went and put on her bikini,
(07:22):
came back out and demanded that she get put in
the commercial. And it was said that they told her
they were filming, but the cameras weren't on, just to
kind of appease her. There's obviously the fallout of the
interview that happened just a couple of weeks ago. Now,
since that happened this morning, North Carolina has come back
(07:43):
and said they are denying the Jordan Hudson report said quote.
While Jordan Hudson is not an employe at the university
or Carolina Athletics, she is welcome to the Carolina football facilities,
to which dead Austin Pablo Torre said quote, u NC
can now I'll choose to describe or change its positioned
on Jordan Hudson's involvement, however it wishes. Following the publication
(08:06):
of our episode, we requested comment and file dozens of
FOIA requests that were not satisfied, and we stand by
our specific reporting. What do you make of this right
now with Bill Belichick and his girlfriend.
Speaker 5 (08:24):
I don't really care, but I'm kind of interested in
how it ends, because like clearly, she has had an
impact on him that has been beneficial to people that
I think enjoy the content that he's helped create. I
(08:45):
think she's pushed him to be out there a little
bit more and use his personality, and I've enjoyed that
as a football fan, and I've learned from that as
a football fan, and I'm really interested in how he
does as a college head coach.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
I think that's a great storyline. That's something that I'm
interested in.
Speaker 5 (09:02):
He's the greatest coach in the world right now, the
best football coach of my lifetime, and he's still active
and now trying this whole new part of college football.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
That's what I care about the most now.
Speaker 5 (09:17):
The other part of that is what are the negative
impacts that she might be having that are just now
coming to the surface, and can that negatively impact his
career as a football coach, because I don't I don't
care about his relationship. I don't care about his family,
I don't care about his kids, I don't care about
any of that stuff. I care about the story of
(09:38):
him as a football coach and what that means to
North Carolina.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
And he's the highest paid public official in North Carolina
this year.
Speaker 5 (09:46):
Yeah, so I will choose to believe Pablo Tory because
I don't think he would just put that out there.
And I've followed Pablo a long time and you know,
read his stuff for a long time. He's not just
throwing it out there. No relation to Pete Pop. And
again this seems to be two different versions. There's like
a PR for her and Bill and a PR for
(10:07):
the university, and those two things continue to clash because
the things that have now kind of started to come out,
as you know, it's it like the what was the
thing that broke all the news? What was it? The
CBS Sunday Morning interview. Yes, once that happened, then you
started to hear all these little things of like, oh,
this happened, and this happened, and so now everyone's trying
(10:31):
to patch it up and be like listen, I would
bet what North Carolina higher ups told them, Hey, you
need to knock it off. She's not helping us right now.
Stay away from the football program for a while. And
then they're like, oh, but yeah, but we like Bill
and we want to keep Bill happy.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
So she's allowed. There was someone with say that that
made the argument of maybe Bill Belichick approached North Carolina
and said, hey, can you can you make this happen?
And then Bill went back like, this is something they're doing,
not something that I want to be done. That would
be funny as well, but it is. It's it's so
interesting because he's the greatest coach we've seen, and at
(11:10):
the same time, Austin he he reached the pinnacle of
success because he was always just a guy that kind
of kept to himself, never opened up much. You know
the famous war on the Cincinnati quote, but you never
really got much out of him. And now you see
that completely switched at at North Carolina, and you wonder
what all does go into that? Yeah, very interesting to follow. Nonetheless,
(11:32):
these tips like I don't care, but I do, right,
and like I'm not seeking it out. But when I
saw that today, I'm like, oh, I'm gonna read this. Yeah,
this is interesting. I don't know how much our listeners care.
Speaker 5 (11:43):
I think it's fascinating, but it's like, it is May
and we're just trying to get the football season, which
is basically all of life trying to get the football season.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
Man, how's it gonna impact football? That's my question. Yeah,
do you Remortimately? There was a point nearing the end
of the season where I threw on the my REDGS
jersey and came in here and I was like, I'm
ready for Red season. Yeah, I switched today. I got
all the Bengal stuff on. I see that I'm ready
for Bengals. We got rookie mini camp. We could talk
about some of that today, but uh, I want to
grab these phone calls here in segment one because we're
(12:14):
going to dive into the Cincinnati Reds. But before we
get to that, these top sports stories and sports Austin
come to our listeners a service.

Speaker 4 (12:47):

Mine mine has not been working correctly. You know the
post notifications like, I don't know if you do this,
but I have a bunch of I have fifty five
people that their tweets are sent to my phone, and
for like the last eighteen hours, it hasn't been working. Okay,
so I feel like I have missed a lot. Anyways,
I think it's just half of them work now half
(13:08):
either way. Go to at ESPN fifteen thirty at Tony
Underscore Pike fifteen at Audiomore. How many games, boy, well,
the Reds win in Houston, zero meaning they get swept,
one which means another series loss, two which means a
series win, or three a sweep of the Houston Astros.
(13:29):
Right now, fifty percent say the Reds will win one
game in Houston, followed by twenty six point seven percent
saying the Reds will be swept. That equals out to
seventy six percent saying a series lost for the Reds,
while ten percent say the Reds will win two out
of three and thirteen percent say the Reds will sweep
the Houston Astros.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
I think one of the things we haven't mentioned Austin
in quite some time the American League West the Angels
in the cellar. No surprise there the Texas Rangers are
eighteen and twenty. The Astro sit in third in the
West at eighteen and eighteen. How about the Athletics twenty
and eighteen right now, maybe they just don't need a
(14:10):
name or a ballpark though.
Speaker 5 (14:11):
They got this guy named Tyler Schoderestrom who hits the
ball out of the bullpenle Oh, it's amazing how helpful
it can be when a guy hits home runs.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
Yeah, and how about the Mariners twenty two and fourteen.
Speaker 5 (14:22):
The Mariners have not lost a series I think since
the second week end of the season. Unbelievable. This is
pretty amazing. And they don't have overwhelming offensive numbers. Nope,
they don't have overwhelming defensive numbers. But as we saw
when they were here, they play clean baseball yep, like
they really just they do the right things. They know
where to go at the ball, they hit situationally, they
(14:44):
hit with runners in scoring position. They make the right throw,
they make the right decision. They're able to get bunts down.
They don't make stupid errors. Yeah, and all of a sudden,
they've won a bunch of baseball games. They've won eight
out of ten.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
One of the hottest teams in baseball, the Phillies have
won a out of ten and the Kansas City RULs
have won nine out of ten, including six in a
row in the Al Central. Let's grab a couple of calls,
as we will be reds here most of the way
an hour one. What's up, Mark?
Speaker 6 (15:13):
I thought I was gonna be picking up some flyers
a day when I was probably Science hit that home
round last night. Yeah, because you know I've been asking
for I've been asking for him for a.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
While, yep.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
And then those flowers got squashed.
Speaker 6 (15:25):
Yeah, the knife inning and then the only problem I
had with that game last night, amongst other things, I
thought in that last inn and the knife inning, instead
of ass Craft, they should have put that Louise Louise made.
Speaker 4 (15:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
Yeah, I thought the same thing, Mark.
Speaker 6 (15:43):
I felt like to close the game out, I believe
you need a guy that can throw st mea heat
Ascraft can't throw the ball by nobody.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
He don't throw no heat.
Speaker 6 (15:55):
So to me, I'd have went with that other guy
and took my chances with him as opposed to Asscraft.
That was my biggest problem.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
Yeah, Mark, I appreciate it. Mark, thank you for the
phone call. Have a great weekend. Austome. We actually talked
about that yesterday. In the ninth inning, who do you
turn to him? We both said Luis May, Yeah, And
then they turned to him in a higher leverage situation
in the tenth and he was fantastic.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (16:18):
I just you can call me a hater if you
want to, and maybe I kind of am. But I'm
just never gonna really believe in Graham Ashcraft. No, but
I've seen so many opportunities where Graham Ashcraft has had big,
high leverage situations, big moments, and he can't control himself
and he throws a bunch of balls, he can't throw strikes,
(16:38):
and he gets himself into trouble.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
And I think he's done pretty good in the bullpen.
Speaker 5 (16:43):
But with the game on the line, in the biggest moments,
I will not trust him. And so maybe he's more
suited to be the first guy out of the bullpen.
Maybe he's the seventh inning guy and Santian's the eighth
inning guy, and maybe eventually it's Pegan in Luis May
the ninth inning. I don't know, but I'll just never
trust Graham Ashcraft in those situations because he has repeatedly
(17:06):
over the course of his career struggled to throw strikes
when it matters most.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
Luis May to me, carries himself the way you see
closers carry themselves. He's got an energy, he's got a
swagger about him, and h what he's done in back
to back games in high leverage situation, you would think
he would get more of those opportunities going.
Speaker 5 (17:23):
He's got to feel pretty confident. Yes, the way he
started his big league career.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
Yeah, been great. Right now, one more call and then
our first break high caller, How are you.
Speaker 4 (17:31):
You're on the air, Yeah, Tony, it's great.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
Greg, what's up?
Speaker 4 (17:36):
Good?
Speaker 7 (17:36):
Hey, Happy Friday.
Speaker 8 (17:37):
Hey.
Speaker 7 (17:38):
I just want to tell you, you know, I tell you
guys all the time. I enjoy the show every day.
Fridays are special. And how more special can it get
than talking about Bill Belichick and his girlfriend.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
That's it, That's right. Scratch off your Bengo card for
the week.
Speaker 7 (17:54):
So anyway, what I want is, you know, with the season,
the red season being twenty five percent over and I
kind of was kind of reviewing just who's doing what,
and to me, the most valuable player for the first
twenty five percent is Santiago Espenal. Yeah, and you know,
the guy can play multiple positions.
Speaker 4 (18:15):
He plays them.
Speaker 7 (18:16):
Fundamentally sound, he plays he's smart. Just like yesterday, he said, well,
he moved the guy over from from second over to
thirdcus he hit the ball on the right side. And
Sunday's game he's playing right field. It was like a
medium fly ball, probably hit, didn't have a real good
chance at home. But he catches the ball a perfect
(18:37):
throw to the cutout, to the cutoff guy. And Larkin says,
you know, I don't think this. I don't sure he's
ever played right field. I'm not sure he ever played
an anything. But he said, let me tell you just
from that play, it looks like this guy's played right
field forever. Okay, from what I'm well, here's what I'm
getting at. This is his arbitration year, and you know,
(19:01):
so he's gonna get a nice raise. To me, if
I'm the Reds, I sign him, maybe tour two, a
couple extra years on sean there, because I just think
every team needs a santi Espinal, and especially the Reds.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
I really do.
Speaker 7 (19:17):
And I just think that would you know, probably early
to talk about, but I guess what I'm saying, is
I don't want to lose him at the trade deadline.
Speaker 4 (19:24):
Makes sense? Thought, all right, yeah, great, thank you man, Hey,
have a good weekend, you too.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
Yeah, espinall has been fantastic. If I had to say
right now, Austin, I would say Espinal and probably Travigno
have just exceeded everything I thought. I mean, Trevino had
his ninth double last night. Yeah, in the twenty ninth
game of the year. He had five and seventy three
games last year.
Speaker 5 (19:46):
There have been six catchers since nineteen hundred for the
Reds that have had three doubles in a game, and
he's one of them. Unbelievable, Like it just doesn't happen
very often.
Speaker 9 (19:55):
Oh.
Speaker 5 (19:55):
From an offensive standpoint, I mean, what Travino has done
is fantast If you go to Baseball Reference and look
at their twenty twenty five Reds page, and you look
at the top twelve players, all right, the players with
the highest war on the team this year. Hunter Green
is obviously number one, Third is Austin hayes Man, Fifth
(20:16):
is Jose Travino. Ellie Da La Cruz and Austin wins
are almost identical. Yeah, TJ Friedel is on that list,
ahead of Matt McClain. It's actually surprising Noelvie Marte is
up there with the higher ward. Now, obviously it's played
a little bit different games, but it's just what a
strange team.
Speaker 4 (20:35):
I just don't know what to make it is. Deep.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
Yeah, we will try to figure out what we can
make of last night's game starting when we get back.
We're just getting started. Since he three to sixty on
a Friday thanks to Skyline Chili on ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 10 (20:49):
Now out of the plate and Heinz lunches it high
in the air deep left field.
Speaker 5 (20:57):
Cleeve Hacket's Gone Hines.
Speaker 11 (21:00):
First home run of the year gives the Reds a
four to two ninth inning lead.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
Man, what a moment that was last night?
Speaker 4 (21:15):
That was awesome, wasn't it?
Speaker 2 (21:17):
And you're thinking when that happens, Austin, man, they're gonna
salvage a split from this series, and it would have
felt like a series win. Reese Hines in the ninth off,
Rossell Iglesias, you couldn't write a better script. How else
they got there? Atlanta took a one nothing lead Jose
Travino one of his three doubles in the fifth, scored
(21:38):
Spencer Steer. Atlanta scored again in the fifth and then
Friedel on a single in the seventh, but the bases
loaded made it too to We'll get to a missed
opportunity in a second and then re signs that two
run home run you just heard right there. But they
couldn't hold off the Braves who score two in the ninth.
We'll talk about how, and then a walk off single
(21:59):
in the eleventh's fall five to four. Welcome back at
Sincy three to sixty thanks to Skyline Chili Austin. I
don't even know where to start with last night. I
really don't. We went into the game saying they needed
a good one from Nickelodolo. Nickelodola won six innings, struck
out seven. I thought Nickelodolo did enough for that team
to win last night.
Speaker 5 (22:17):
I think, if we want to look at a couple
of positives, nickelodolea looked looked really good, correct like, looked
exactly what she wanted to see from him, gave you
some length, was able to get his strikeout numbers up,
which you know he's struggled at times this year to
strike batters out and the Braves are not a great
offensive team right now, and Nick took advantage of that,
(22:39):
which you should be happy about if you're a Reds fans.
Seven strikeouts through six that was exactly what you needed.
Gave you a chance. And then Lion Richardson gave richards
right after that as well. I mean, a guy who
just a couple of nights ago gave up a walk
off hit to Marcelo Zuna just left to pitch over
the plate that he couldn't get away with against a
great hitter, comes in, faces those great hitters again and
(22:59):
looks really really good. You get eight innings of great
baseball that give you a chance to win a game
and salvage as split. You should be happy about that.
Speaker 4 (23:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (23:08):
We mentioned in the last segment Luis May impressive in
high leverage situation in back to back days. He pitched
the tenth last night, with the Reds not scoring. In
the tenth, he did not allow a run. Ultimately, Taylor
Rodgers gives up the Baldwin single in the eleventh, and
that was all she wrote for the Cincinnati Reds on
(23:29):
a night. As we mentioned, you heard it right there.
Rhese Hines was two for three at the dish, also
walked in the game, hits the two run home run,
Jose Travino, three doubles in the game, and they got
hits from Santiago Espinal, Spencer Steer, Gavin Lux, Matt McClain,
and TJ.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
Friedel.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
That made up everything the Reds were able to do
at the Dish last night. Let's start offensively. We'll get
to the defense. I sent you in MOA Techs last night.
I thought it was one of the worst situational hitting
games that I've seen this team play. I saw Lance McCallister.
He outlined this after the game last night. Here were
(24:10):
some of the chances that the Reds had to either
extend their leader or open this thing up. In the fifth,
the Reds put runners on second and third with one out.
Reese Hines struck out. Freedo lined out Austin in Major
League Baseball, if you've got a guy on third with
one out or fewer, what do you need to do
as a hitter. You need to get the ball in
(24:31):
the air. Just put the ball in the air. Just
score the run. In the sixth, runners on first and third,
one out, Spencer steeerground's into a double play back to
back innings with two runners on in one out. In
the seventh, they put runners on again, second third, with
(24:51):
one out, Reese Hines walks. That means the bases are loaded.
That's when Freedo hit his single. So you have bases loaded.
You had to on in the fifth, one out didn't
get anything, two runners on in the sixth, one out,
didn't get anything. You've got the bases loaded in the
seventh with one out, you've already tied the game. Matt
(25:12):
McClain strikes out and Ellie de la Cruz strikes out.
Speaker 5 (25:15):
Just brutal as a team three for fifteen with runners
in scoring position last night, and the biggest issue continues
to be not even making contact.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
Yes, you can't. You can't strike out in those situations,
and especially when it's your two and three betters. How
many teams in Major League Baseball Austin with the bases
load in one out are going to get a run
in with their two to three hole hitters up a lot,
And that wasn't it. In the tenth inning, Ellie starts
on second, and I thought Gavin Lux did a great
(25:48):
job just to make contact got the ball and play
to the right side, moved Ellie to third. The best
at bats last night were taken by Gavin Lux and
Reese Hines and TJ. Friedel without a doubt in that
same inning. In the tenth inning, run too, he was
just crushing the runner on third, one out, Spencer Steers
at the dish. What do you need to do if
(26:09):
you're Spencer Steer, put the ball in play. He strikes out,
and then Espinal hits a deep flyout that if there's
one out, Ellie scores. But somehow Spencer Steer is still
batting ahead of Santiago Espinal. Doesn't make sense, but it
would have been nice for espinall to put that ball
in play and get a run in. And then in
the eleventh Blake Done bunts into an out at third
(26:30):
of the leadoff ghost runner. A terrible bunt.
Speaker 5 (26:33):
What is going on to bunt that ball down the
third baseline and Terry Francona said that that's what he
was supposed to do. Matt Olson was basically in the
batter's box. Unbelievable, blake done and he still gets the
button down like that. It makes sense even try to
butcher boy it if you can just to, you know,
(26:54):
scoot matt Olsen back a little bit if you have to.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
Now, later in the inning, Blake Done gets caught stealing
second kind. Calgi gets tossed because by rule the field
or covering the base cannot put his knee in front
of the bag. He did. That should not be an out.
Calgo gets tossed, Tito gets tossed. Reds lose the challenge
and then obviously they lose it in the eleven some
(27:18):
unbelievable offensive inefficiency here Austin. They're owing four in extra
inning games this year. Was it Mo that pointed out
last night They've not scored a run in any extra
inning game. I think they've played in four extra inning
games and played six extra innings total and not scored
a run. Isn't the runner on second meant to help that?
The ghost runner, it's meant to, you know, push things
(27:40):
along here, Yeah, make the games go The last year
and you know the thing. And I was watching the
game with Mo last night actually, and he brought up
point I hadn't really thought about. But if you're the
road team, you basically have to score twice, yes, right,
to have a chance in that situation because of the
way it sets up for the home team in the
bottom of the ninth and it just they haven't been
(28:00):
able to do, which made what Luis made did in
the tenth even more impressive because he gave them a
chance to come do it in the eleventh. They're four
and seven in run run games. They're nineteen and twenty overall.
And as bad as the situational hitting was Austin, what
do you make of the defense in the ninth inning.
Speaker 4 (28:15):
Around Graham Ashcraft as well? Just not good?
Speaker 2 (28:18):
I mean they Atlanta scores on what was called a
sacrifice bunt i'lbi scores from third and then a single
to left field with a mad Rosario on second. How
far did you say the ball went into left field?
One hundred and eight feet.
Speaker 5 (28:37):
It was one hundred and eight feet from Gavin Lux
his throw to home plate.
Speaker 2 (28:42):
So Harris hits a single, Rosario comes around to score.
Gavin Lux makes the throw home to try to cut
the runner down. In doing so, the ball gets past
the catcher. Graham Asscraft can't field it, and Harris, on
a ball that was one eight feet into the outfield,
makes it all the way to third, just awful, awful fielding,
(29:06):
awful defense. We haven't talked about this, it's not the
first time we've talked about this with the Cincinnati Reds,
but it was just a comedy of airs offensively, defensively,
and it perfectly brings to an end another series loss.
This team is at nineteen and twenty Austin. They just
failed to do the little things. And it's not the
first time we've said it. They fail to do the
(29:27):
little things correctly that give you a chance to win
baseball games, and it's haunted them all season already. A
season full of close losses, a season full of bad losses.
Through thirty nine games, it feels like for the Cincinnati Reds.
So there is positives. What Reese Hines has done, I
think Gavin lux at the play, TJ Friedel last night,
(29:49):
Jose Travigno, Luis May all positives. The defense has been abysmal,
situational at bats awful, the mischances. Let's break, Let's come
back and talk about where things stand from a Hunter
Green standpoint, the injury latest for the Cincinnati Reds and
what this weekend series now looks like. And we've got
(30:10):
to have an li DAYA Cruz conversation based off something
that I saw Austin tweet out earlier today as well.
We'll do all that between now and one o'clock, and
then we'll welcome Charlie Goldsmith with us as well. Since
he three to sixty thanks to Skyline Chili on ESPN
fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
Hey Alexa, Who's gonna win it all?
Speaker 12 (30:29):
Getting ESPN fifteen thirty from iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (30:35):
Welcome back, since he three to sixty ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station. We are a service of our good
friends at Skyline Chili. A couple more things on the
Cincinnati Reds here, we'll grab a caller two to finish
up the hour. In the next segment, Hunter Green. It
is viewed as a Grade one strain in the right
groin after the MRI that Hunter Green underwent yesterday, will
(31:00):
go to the fifteen day injured list in the coming days.
No roster move was made ahead of the finale. Terry
Francona said, it's not terrible, but it's going to be
an il placement because we need him to maybe miss
a start or two. Kind of still talking through some
things with Monday as an off day. We want to
talk through it a little more. We'll have some more
information Friday, which is now today. Given what we talked
(31:24):
about yesterday, Austin best case scenario, I mean, you don't
want him to miss any starts, but if he misses
a starter or two, you've got to take that as
the best case scenario.
Speaker 5 (31:32):
Yeah, I would say so. I mean, it worked out
probably about as good as you could ask it to.
For the Reds, I mean, I would assume he'll miss
probably three starts. They'll be a little bit cautious with him,
because that's what they do. They're extremely cautious. Yeah, I
would expect we'll see him in three weeks from now.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
As it relates to the Houston Astros. This weekend, it'll
be Martinez, Singer, and Abbott taking the mound against the
eighteen and eighteen Houston Astros.
Speaker 5 (32:02):
The Stros have split their last ten games at five
and five. Tonight, their best starter takes the mount Hunter Brown,
right hander with a one point six to seven earned
run average and seven starts so far this season, he
has forty nine strikeouts in just forty three innings pitch.
He's walked ten batters, given up one home run. Hunter
(32:23):
Brown actually faced the Reds last season on September fifth.
He went six innings, gave up four hits, walked one,
and struck out six. That was a pitcher's duel that day.
The Reds ended up winning one nothing thanks to a
Ty France home run in the seventh inning. In that
Gameter Brown pitched really really well in that game. And
(32:47):
we've seen you know, what was it last year or
was it last week they faced or it was last
night Schwellenbach. If you heard the TV broadcast, John Sadek
was talking about how when Schwellenbach faced the Reds in
Cincinnati last year, he had a nearly identical line to
what he had last night, and he pitched really well
(33:08):
in that game last year. And Cowboy made the point.
So you're telling me there were no adjustments. And here
we are again, So we'll see how they go up
against Hunter Brown. As a team, Houston is twenty first
in the Big leagues in ops, the Reds are thirteenth.
Houston is twentieth in runs scored, the Reds are seventh,
and from a pitching standpoint, Houston's really good. They're fifth
(33:30):
in Major League Baseball in Team Era, the Reds are ninth.
Not that those stats are meant to make you think
that the Reds should beat them. We know that that
whole idea is kind of out the window. They can
beat the Rockies and they're gonna play the White Sox
next week and they'll probably win that series. But the
teams that are if there's been one huge achilles heal
(33:53):
for the Reds, they cannot They can't create anything against
halfway decent pitching.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
Todd for twelfth and majors and strikeouts, fourth best era
for Hunter Brown. I want to bring this up with
Charlie too, Austin, but it's something that you tweeted out earlier.
You tweeted out a graphic of Matt McLean and Ellie
de la Cruz, and we talked earlier this morning. You
have a little concern right now for Ellie de la Cruz.
Speaker 5 (34:19):
Why yeah, you know, in the spirit of the new Pope,
Bobby from Chicago, I would like to make a confession.
Speaker 2 (34:28):
I'm worried about Ellie de la Cruz. Okay, number one,
where's this power? Good question, It's completely gone.
Speaker 5 (34:37):
You remember in spring training he was hitting like seven
home runs and hitting doubles and triples and I understand
it's spring training, but still.
Speaker 2 (34:44):
Sixty nine plate appearances without a home run.
Speaker 5 (34:46):
He put together an incredible spring and had a pretty
solid start to the season and then all of a
sudden it's gone. His bat speed is incredibly high, but
he's not hitting the sweet spot. He's not barreling balls
at a high enough rate. He's not hitting them hard
a guy with power like Ellie de la Cruz. His
(35:07):
average exit velocity right now is ninety. On top of that,
his strikeout rate has crept up again now to twenty
eight percent. He's swinging and missing it thirty percent of
the pitches he sees man.
Speaker 2 (35:21):
And he is down. His speed is down.
Speaker 5 (35:24):
Defensively, he's just okay, Like right now, he's at a
minus four. I think that'll balance out as the season
goes along. But he's just not He's not the player
that we need him to be, that the Reds need
him to be, and it's.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
Not easy to ask him to be who the Reds
need to be. But that's the job of a superstar
in Major League Baseball. And that's the other thing. What
if he's not a superstar? Good point, it's a fair question.
Speaker 5 (35:50):
We are getting to the point now where this is
going to be ell Lee's third big league season. We
might have to start making space for the idea that
this guy is not.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
A superstar. He could be good, He could be really good.
Is he elite?
Speaker 5 (36:06):
We've had the concrete, we had it what two weeks ago.
You look at what Aaron Judge does, Like the numbers
he puts up consistently, superstar, unbelievable, Oh.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
Tony superstar. Bryce Harper has been doing it for like
ten years. Robby Witt junior superstar. Yeah, he's so armstrong,
is showing signs of superstar.
Speaker 5 (36:26):
The other thing I I just wonder, and I talked
about it again yesterday too, is just the approach at
the plate for these guys. I don't know if if
Voleaka has tinkered with him too much, or I don't
know if it's mental for Ellie. But my honest thought,
and I have nothing to say, I know that this
is true. I wonder if he's hurt, because your speed
(36:50):
and your power don't just disappear like.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
That, right, especially how young he is.
Speaker 5 (36:54):
Yeah, and so I just wonder if there's something, if
he's hurt, if he needs a day off. I mean,
I know they're gonna get one on Monday. I don't
know if it's the worst thing in the world to
give him the day off on Sunday. Toil in every
game this year so it's played in every game, give
them a day off on Sunday, I don't know, but
it's it's a fair When you look at those two
charts from Baseball Savant, like Matt McClain looks like a
(37:17):
much better baseball player. He's a better fielder, a better
base runner, he's walking a lot more, he's not chasing
as many pitches, he's hitting the ball really hard, all
the things you want to see from a player. I mean, hell,
he's faster than Ellie day La Cruz this year, unbelievable,
which is hard to believe. And you know, Ellie has
(37:38):
added more value because he's gotten more hits and his
base his average is higher. So there's that, but it's
like again, the importance of a guy being able to
hit the ball over the fence. That's kind of what
I need Ellie to be right now. That's what they
need him to be, and he's not that.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
There was a point last year if there was a
slow hit ground ball, I was thinking and he's gonna
beat it out, and he's not doing that this year.
He's not even close on half of these. So it's
a question that I think is fair, and it's one
that I want to bring up to Charlie Goldsmith as well.
At the top of our number two before we get
to there, one more break, we'll take a phone caller
too on the other side to round out our number
one or the Friday edition Cincy three sixty thanks to
(38:17):
Skyline Chili on ESPN fifteen thirty thirty.
Speaker 4 (38:29):
Welcome back.
Speaker 2 (38:30):
Our one coming to a close in just a couple
of minutes. Charlie Goldsmith will lead off our number two.
That happens next, but first here on Cincy three sixty,
we got time for one more call Mike. What's going on?
Speaker 13 (38:43):
Man?
Speaker 4 (38:43):
How are you hey?
Speaker 9 (38:45):
How do you know it was me?
Speaker 2 (38:46):
Nobody answered, I saw your name on the screen here.
Speaker 14 (38:50):
Oh that's pretty cool. Maybe it's fact the way it
used to be. Yes, used to be that way on
most show.
Speaker 10 (38:57):
Well maybe not.
Speaker 9 (38:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 14 (38:59):
Well, I'm not anyone who could.
Speaker 9 (39:03):
Uh A couple of kids right now.
Speaker 14 (39:05):
I'll tell you I see the funniest books on sports
I've ever read. The book of the Jogi Barrett quotes.
I read them years ago about rehashing that it is
so hilarious the Jogi Barret quotes, and then the Bob
Easer book hilarious, really good stuff if you like baseball.
Speaker 9 (39:23):
And then uh, I forgot about how great of the
author John Feinstein was, And of course we lost in Wonstare.
I believe sure. He probably wrote the best golf hardback
book I've ever read. It was he was a special guy.
That was a big loss to lose him. I think
he started with Sports Illustrated. I'm not positive. Looking now
(39:48):
the West has the NL West has three teams over
a six and Arizona just goes ahead and whips the
Dodgers last night in a good game. That that division
was un believable.
Speaker 4 (40:00):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (40:01):
It it further pushes in the point, but I think
we made it so many times in the preseason. It's
just it's not a year where you're gonna get an
NL wildcard spot if you're the Reds. It puts all
the pressure on the NL Central because you're gonna have
the Dodgers, Padres, Mets, Giants, Phillies, the Diamondbacks, the Braves.
(40:22):
When they get everything right. There's just there's too many
good teams in the NL to not win the NL
Central and think you're gonna get one of those wild
card spots. It's just not gonna happen.
Speaker 9 (40:32):
No, not that either Philly or the Mets hanging around. Yeah,
there's no way. It's just well miracle, maybe that's about it. Yeah.
I found something else out now real quick. Last night
on MLB Network. Guess who the fastest guy in the
Major League is? Sprint Speedrent just straight sprint speed.
Speaker 2 (40:54):
I don't know if he's at the top. I know
Bobby Wits one of the fastest. I would guess Pete
Crow Armstrong.
Speaker 9 (41:00):
Bobby with Tony Navid very good. I was a little surprised,
but then see, I don't get to see Bobby with
playing enough to appreciate his evidently bliss for his speed,
but that's pretty impressive.
Speaker 2 (41:13):
He's one of those players as well. Like we had
we just had the conversation about Ellie and being a superstar.
He's everything you have to have in a superstar and
he has all the pressure of that franchise on his
back and he's hitting three twenty five this year. You
mentioned the fastest player in baseball at two point seven
war already and the Kansas City Royals have won nine
(41:33):
out of their last ten games.
Speaker 9 (41:36):
Yeah, it's it's I don't know, it just seems like
there's more excitement in other towns than yeah, than Bureau.
Speaker 2 (41:43):
When it comes to the Superstars.
Speaker 9 (41:45):
Yes, yeah, it does. Okay, Andy, Well, first of all,
I think the best utility There's been many great utility
players since I was a kid. I can't recall most
of them, but currently, in the last ten years, I
think the best utility man has been Key k Hernandez
and in the postseason he's a witch. Yeah, he's he's
(42:10):
played all eight positions as a starter, he has uh,
he's got a two fifty seven lifetime batting average. He's
got one hundred and thirty five home runs, almost five
hundred rbish and about a seven twelve OPS. So, you know,
for a guy that plays here and there and everywhere,
(42:30):
and he was one hundred and ninety first pick back
in twenty fourteen by the Astros, So it just goes
to shitty. You guys can come out of nowhere and
do something, but that guy, really, in the postseason, he
may have more home runs than any Dodger has in
the last several years in the postseason.
Speaker 2 (42:47):
Yeah, there's really there's a player the REGs just saw
that that I think of from a utility standpoint, Brendan
Donovan the second basement for the Cardinals right now. He's
hitting three point thirty one. Uh, but he has just
been all over the map. He is Uh. He has
the ability. He's played six different positions already during his
his major league baseball tenure. He produces offensively, he is
(43:12):
solid on the defensive standpoint. He's he's a dependable utility
player that is so valuable on NNNI roster and probably
one of the reasons why Saint Louis is surprising a
lot of people at being five hundred right now.
Speaker 9 (43:24):
Yeah, the Dodgers kind of stole at what's his name,
Edmonds from the from the Cardinals. Yeah, playing shortstop and
center field and very well on and he's hitting well,
so he was I guess they picked him. And he's
a little guy, but he can hammer us. I think
the biggest problem with the Celtics they just only have
a dog on that team. You look at this, Yeah,
(43:45):
the Golden State's gout Butler and Draymont Denver's got the
joker hide. Consider kind of a dog. And now Westbrook,
the Knicks got that that big center. Mitchell, Yeah, and
Bridget Gosh, Hart's a dog. Randall is a dog. Those
guy Edwards maybe go there.
Speaker 8 (44:02):
But Boston doesn't have a dog.
Speaker 9 (44:04):
You don't have a bad boy.
Speaker 4 (44:06):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (44:07):
You gotta have some type of enforcer, especially when you're
a team that relies on the finesse and and you're
shooting one hundred threes in two games. You've got to
have You've got to have someone like that.
Speaker 4 (44:16):
I agree you do.
Speaker 9 (44:18):
And so I'm asking both of you. Do you think
the Knicks will win this series? Do you think it'll
go seven?
Speaker 4 (44:23):
What do you think?
Speaker 5 (44:25):
I'm gonna trust Tibbs to find a way to win
this series.
Speaker 2 (44:28):
See those That's a sentence I never thought i'd hear.
I'm gonna trust Tibbs. I'll still say the Celtics win
it in seven. They're a five and a half point
favored at Madison Square tomorrow. I just think that eventually
they're gonna start making some of these threes and get
that confidence back. But man, if you're the New York Knicks,
you could deal a knockout punch tomorrow at what's going
(44:49):
to be one of the best environments in recent memory
of playoff basketball.
Speaker 15 (44:53):
You can get yeah, and I don't watch steven A
that much, but those last two days when they want yes,
she was a man out of control on the air,
it was pretty hilarious.
Speaker 2 (45:06):
Good entertainment. Thanks guys, Thanks Mike. I have a great weekend,
appreciate it. With that, our number one comes to a close.
Not a better way to open up an hour when
we come back than with our guy Charlie Goldsmith and
we'll catch up with him on more about the Reds,
more about Li Daily cruise, Hunter Green, and just the
(45:26):
overall feel around this team. That's next. It's Cincy three
to sixty. Thanks to Skyline Chili. Thank you for listening
on ESPN fifteen thirty. Cincinnati Sports station.
Speaker 16 (45:35):
Ky Cincinnati make us the number one pre set on

Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored in part by Cincy Shirts. Cincy

Speaker 2 (46:02):
Welcome back Hour two, thanks to Cincy Shirtz. Thank you
for listening on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Happy
to have you along. Excited about getting Hour two started
because we get a chance to talk to our good
friend Charlie Goldsmith who joins us right now. Charlie, what's
going on?
Speaker 8 (46:21):
How are you doing, Tony?
Speaker 3 (46:23):
Charlie.
Speaker 2 (46:24):
Let's take a look here thirty nine games into the
Cincinnati red season. Because I had the conversation with Austin yesterday,
you could view this as so many missed opportunities, and
I know you've alluded to that over social media the
last couple of days. Do you give them any sort
of pass because of the patchwork nature that they've had
to instill here with so many different injuries, the movement
(46:47):
on the roster, there's really been no consistency. How do
you grade the first thirty nine here for the Reds?
Speaker 8 (46:54):
Yeah, I'm not declaring the season over because you do
factor and things like the injuries, the fact that you
expect get a lot more from McClain and Steer and
Ellie and Tayler Stevenson now that he's healthy. During the
you know, the last four or five months of this season,
or however long it is left. But if you're just
grading what we've seen now, it's probably a see it's
a team that hasn't lived up to the external expectations
(47:17):
and turn the year with division with playoffs in the mind.
When you look at some of the underperformance with a
couple of notable guys statistically, but then collectively, you know,
my unofficial count is eleven games. Did it just feel
the red It feels like the Reds just drop, They
beat themselves, they let get away from them, and the
familiar nature of that makes it tough to uh, you know,
(47:39):
no one feels great about how they're feeling right now.
But they're a path to turn it around. It's just
a lot going to have to change pretty quickly from
just the way they play for them to do that.
Speaker 2 (47:50):
Well, let's start with the positive. Let let's start with
some of the positives for this team. What Austin Wins
and Jose Travino have done, Santiago Espinal, Gavin Lucks up
up to this point from a hitting standpoint, who have
you been most surprised by at their success through thirty
nine games?
Speaker 8 (48:08):
Talking to success And I'll answer your question about the hitting,
but you've got to lean all the way into the
pitching if you're talking about why the Reds are where
they are right now at this stage of the season,
the consistency of their rotation, the way that Ashcraft has
stepped up in the bullpen to got at the closure.
From a hitting surprise standpoint, I mean Trevino and Winzard
the true surprises. I mean they've hit as well as
(48:31):
any catching tandem in baseball and saved the Reds offense
that was really lacking from a right handed hitting perspective,
especially with Stevenson and when Hayes was out as well.
Even if they hit one hundred the rest of the year,
it's almost like they did their job by picking up
the offense in that stretch. And and I think Gavin
luxA and Austin Hayes are very nice players too. That
(48:52):
would start for any good team in baseball, and the
Reds ideally when they're back to full strength, have them,
you know, fourth and fifth in the lineup. Maybe even
if Stevenson and Steer get hot, some of the sixth
and seventh most important heres in the lineup, which is
pretty good for them to be where they are. So
those are the pieces that have gone in there.
Speaker 2 (49:09):
Here another piece that has made his way onto the scene,
Luis May. What he was able to do in the
tenth the night before, they've used him in high leverage situations.
What do you make about the early returns on what
you've seen from Louise May.
Speaker 8 (49:26):
Yeah, I bet if the threats bullpen was at full strength
from a fatigue standpoint, that May might not have gotten
those opportunities as quickly as he did. But you know,
the double header and the rain delays and the short
starts and the injuries and starts have taxed the bullpens
to the point to where they haven't had a choice.
And May is really turning heads as much as any
rookie pitcher can kind of in his first two weeks
(49:48):
in the big leagues. I mean, he's just overpowering guy
with the fastball, and when he throws that for strikes
because of the velocity, it's kind of just as simple
as that for him. When he's throwing strikes, they'll be
pretty dominant. There's a kind of a fun backstory too,
like he wanted to pitch because he was enamored with
the world of Chapman's velocity, and he spent all of
his life trying to be like Chapman, and now he's
(50:10):
doing this for the Reds, scrolling up to one o three,
pushing four one oh five, and he definitely has that
closure presence as well for a young guy. That's all
been really exciting to see.
Speaker 2 (50:22):
When you look at last night, I viewed it. The
situational hitting or lack thereof two runners on in the
fifth with one out, you get nothing, two runners on
in the sixth, one out, you get nothing, bases loaded.
In the seventh, you do get the Freedo RBI that
ties it, but McClain and Ellie both look at or
both strike out to finish the inning. Spencer Steer strikes out.
(50:45):
In the tenth, Espinov flies out. The lack of situational
hitting is that Is there anything you can point to
when it feels like it comes from so many different
members of the team, or just something where you kind
of scratches they're going through a bad stretch or they're
just not good in those situations.
Speaker 8 (51:02):
I mean, that's kind of the same. Situational hitting is
exactly what they want this team's identity to be. Up
from an offensive perspective, and it's just not there yet.
I do think it's better than it was last year,
and I've been told the right seat the same way
they see their situational hitting is better and improved in
certain situations. They're liking what they're seeing more than they.
Speaker 3 (51:20):
Did last season.
Speaker 8 (51:20):
But but really that shows kind of how long there
is to go and how much of a gap there
is to close to where it's at the point where
it's good enough for that to be the strength of
a team with a consistent offense. And one thing I'll
go back to as well, ties into situational hitting, ties
into the self state stuff. Is one thing hitting coach
Crystal Lake has told me was they're finning to start
bunting more. They need to take second base more, they
(51:42):
need to use their speed in that way, more play
more small ball, to try to find some consistencies on
days where they're not hitting bec because there have been
those days. But then last night you saw a bunch
to be maybe the biggest play in the game because
Blake Dunn wasn't able to get it down the third
base line. And it's stuff like that's the gap this
team is missing right now, and the difference in yesterday's
(52:04):
game was a bunt by Atlanta and then a bunt
by Cincinnati. And so if that's what you want to be,
you've got to be better at kind of winning that
little battle.
Speaker 2 (52:13):
Charlie, I'm I'm worried about Ellie de la Cruz.
Speaker 4 (52:15):
Should I be.
Speaker 3 (52:18):
What part?
Speaker 8 (52:18):
What part of the game?
Speaker 5 (52:19):
Not hitting for power, chasing a bunch of pitches again,
I think feel like the contact is down.
Speaker 8 (52:27):
I think that Elie de la Cruz. I think statistically
it was Show two. He's chasing last sears, just missing pitches.
Speaker 3 (52:33):
In the zone to hit.
Speaker 8 (52:34):
What's the most concerning to me about Ellie is that
he seemingly hasn't been ready or hasn't been as aggressive
when it's been like a middle fastball, when it's been
a mistake pitch. The messaging behind the scenes with him
has kind of been, hey, if you can get the
first base, that's so valuable that you'll live with. They
want Elie de la Cruz to hit for power, but
(52:55):
they don't want Elie de la Cruz to maybe sell
out for power as much as he previously. And I
bet part of it is an adjustment process of Ellie
kind of working through that. I think it's cat and
mouse game more than any more than anything. Just hit
his pitches down the middle and be ready to anticipate
and drive those again. He's going to hit for power
in the reds and want him to. He's just kind
(53:16):
of figuring that out. That it is taking a while
for Ellie to do that speed. I know what you're
saying with the numbers show. I mean, the guy's still
on pace for sixty steals and he's showing some extreme
aggression in some cases. Still, there was a delayed steel
the other night, So I don't get the sense the
speed is a factor. Whateveryone keeps saying is he just
hasn't gotten hot yet.
Speaker 3 (53:36):
And now this.
Speaker 8 (53:37):
Quote unquote cold stretch is better than a typical cold
stretch by Billa Cruz. But since he hasn't gotten hot yet,
I mean, he's not playing like a top ten player
in the National League. And when you're injured and McLain's
struggling and Steer hasn't gotten hot, and all that adds
up and I turned forward to the superstar and Ellie
just hasn't produced at that level this season.
Speaker 2 (53:57):
Are you seeing anything from both Fencer Steer and Matt McClain.
That would lead you to believe that they're close or
they're working into the right direction of getting back to
who they need to be.
Speaker 8 (54:09):
I actually think Matt McClain had a very good series
in Atlanta, a very good tiers and encouraging series. The
way he's squaring up the ball, I think that's going
to be fine, and you know, we can have the
lineup conversation as well. I was kind of waiting with
McClane moving him down. I was like, all right, let's
get Hayes back and then assessed and hay should come
back today. You could put Hayes second and then drop
(54:30):
McClain in to fifth or sixth or something. But really,
with how mcclan hit, like now, maybe they ate that move,
But with how McClain hit over the last week and
the way I kind of what I saw from him
in Atlanta, I don't necessarily feel the need to do
that as much. Steer is another one, like I was
actually feeling great about Steer until the Atlanta series. Francona
(54:51):
had gone out of his way to mention that I
talked with Chris Blaka for a while about Steer really
showing that progress. And then I had that exact conversation
with Steer as well, who went on about it, Then
you need a bad series, so you'd like more consistency there.
But kind of that's been a yo yo back and
forth with him. But I mean, we'll see, right, And
I mean they also just need Blake Dunn and Reeves
(55:13):
Huns and Jacob Hurdies and Jose Travino to keep hitting
and Santi ed westpron all against great handed pitching. Like
it's all of these things that we're not seeing yet
that they kind of need to all happen for the
Reds to really start hitting their stride this season.
Speaker 2 (55:27):
The Hunter Green situation walking off the mound the other night,
you certainly fear the worst, especially when it's the right
leg that he's using to push off the news we
got yesterday. Do you view that as best case scenario
if he misses a starter or two based on what
that could lead to when you talk about those types
of injuries, I.
Speaker 8 (55:46):
Think it's best case scenario. Here's what I'll say too,
and this is I mean, this is Francona's point. I
heard a bunch of people mention this like it's the
best case scenario that there's a good chance that Greeneld
just missed two starts. There are actually some recent examples
of Wade Miley, Nick Lidel, Sunny Gray when he was
with the Reds having the exact same thing happened and
just missing the minimum amount two weeks. So that's fine,
(56:08):
he avoided something more significant, but you need Hunter for
the next two weeks, and so like. Of course, you
feel great with the diagnosis you have, but for a
team that's coming off such a tough week that that
Hunter is their best player, now you have two weeks
about Hunter Green And I mean I think last week
I mentioned the whole pitching depth conversation and how much
of a concern that was, Well, we'll carry. Francona confirmed
(56:30):
yesterday that even though they have two off days and
would only need one spot start on paper over the
next two weeks and otherwise could stick with the four
men rotation. While they could do that, Francona said they're
going to add a true fits starter to this rotation
as a part of a series of shuffle roster moves
that I've been trying to figure out that that there's
(56:51):
a billion moving pieces, it's more contingencies than I've ever
tried to work through a projective what roster moves are
going to be. So I think we'll learn a lot today.
But they, from what I was told, they do plan
to at a fit starter to round out this rotation
until greens back.
Speaker 2 (57:05):
Is that probably gonna be Chase Petty? Is that your
best guess?
Speaker 8 (57:09):
I don't know. It's like the fact that like it
could be Petty great rebounding Louisville got a bright future
still really young. We saw he had room to develop.
The fact that the if it was going to be
Chase Petty, the Reds could have put Green on the il,
brought up Zuluetta and injury replacements, and then optioned zulu
Atta for Petty. And the fact that they didn't do
(57:32):
that and staid that there was more quote unquote at
play from a roster management perspective, made me feel like
there was going to be a forty man move involved.
So obviously Petty is on the floor now, I don't
expect this to be Chase Burns, but that not making
that move yesterday made me feel like there might be
a forty man move involved, which wouldn't be Chase Petty.
(57:55):
Would be one of the other pictures in Triple Ad.
But that is all speculation, trying to read based off
a move they made.
Speaker 2 (58:01):
We we each day do an injury report thanks to
our friends at Postman Law, delivered by Postman Law. Injured
Postman delivers Charlie this injury report for the Reds. It's
becoming must watch just to see how Terry Francona puts
together this lineup every single day. Where do we stand
from the latest injury report for the Cincinnati Reds Because
(58:24):
I'm seeing updates on Austin Hayes on Noelve, Marte Jmercandelario, Cees,
Wade Miley, Red Lauder, Jake Fraanley, the list goes on
and on. To your best knowledge, where do things stand
from an injury standpoint?
Speaker 8 (58:37):
I want to start with this. You know, around this
time last year, I wrote the story read have a
lot of injuries. What happened?
Speaker 4 (58:42):
Like?
Speaker 8 (58:42):
Why are there so many injuries? And when I was told,
you know, I mean, nicol is publicly talking about this,
it was you know, diving shoulder, you know, fur ground ball, running.
Speaker 6 (58:52):
Into the wall.
Speaker 8 (58:53):
It was it was a bunch of these fluke injuries.
It was a bunch of these hard contact polleten injuries.
Kind of the The different thing about the injuries this
season is it's been growing hamstring, calf, oblique, et cetera.
And back. It's been more wear and care muscle and
then muscles around the back related. So so first of all,
(59:14):
that's not good. Second of all, I guess it's already happened.
This might be the most important plane flight of the
season because with Hayes and with Frehley, you wanted to
see how the swelling was impacted by the travel, because
that can't happen. That's the thing that happened with Hayes
coming back from Goodyear Arizona on the plane. The I
believe it was his calf then swelled up. It wasn't good.
(59:37):
It was Barkain Adham goes on the il. The last
box phrase the check was the plane flight. Frayley was
saying he feels good about kind of the medication he
was taking to avoid that on the plane. But with Freyley,
a part of it was let's see how he's feeling
after that flight. So a very important plane flight today.
Frayley the tough one because I truly don't know. I
(59:58):
don't know if they know kind of the next week
it's going to look like for Frehley. So when you're
projecting the roster moves for today, you need a what
would Frehley just be replaced by Hayes or does Freiley
stay on the roster?
Speaker 7 (01:00:09):
Then who has Hayes replaced?
Speaker 8 (01:00:11):
Is there are forty men move? That factors in there.
Does any forty men move also have to be impacted
by adding a picture onto the roster like they may
be alluded to that they might yesterday. Do they also
separately need a fresh arm for the bullpen and exchange
a couple of relievers, Like there's a lot right now
and we'll get that in the next couple hours. But
that's the state of this team from an injury perspective.
Speaker 5 (01:00:33):
We kind of saw it a little bit last night
with the umpires with Terry Francona getting tossed. That was
the most animated that we've seen him being around him
down in Atlanta in most days. Do you sense that
the level of frustration or aggravation or anger or whatever
you want to call it with Francona is reaching a
(01:00:54):
peak right now with all that's going on, and isn't
as bad as we think.
Speaker 8 (01:01:00):
Francona. And you asked me this before the start of
the season, does Francona feel the pressure? And I said,
one of his defining traits is that he does not
carry himself like a guy who feels any pressure whatsoever.
And I would say one of his defining characteristics is
and I'm not to compare Francona to its previous Red managers.
I've been around a lot of managers I like to
kind of make those networks as well. Franconah is one
(01:01:22):
of those guys, probably one of the best in the
league I've seen. I mean, it's a cliche, but you
can't tell if you wanted you lost the previous day,
like you know, you're on a four game losing streak,
and Brent Sooner rocks into his office and he's like hey, suits,
and they're off and running and not them specifically, but
then they're back playing cards as a team and they're
doing their whole roulette thing. Is like Francona's fine the
(01:01:43):
team as a whole. Last week I think was a
very sobering series. The message I got repeatedly from the
clubhouse on Saturday and Sunday when they were facing the Nationals.
Was we think we're playing a lot better and we're
about to turn the corner and we're coughing up because
of this, this and this the mess. But this week,
specifically yesterday was one. We's got to clean things up too.
(01:02:04):
We've got to move on from this because this series.
They didn't say this, this wasn't direct, but basically this
series was disgusting and let's just try to put that
behind us and beat the Astra. So there has been
a tone shift in the clubhouse. I think Francona is
good at avoiding that. One thing about the ejection, I
think this is just my read on it. Francona wasn't
(01:02:24):
sticking up for Blake Dunn. I think Francona is sticking
up for Colin cal Gill. I think that's the piece
of this that hasn't been discussed as much. Is calgo
out at second base like one. I hadn't seen that
before too. That's very cal Gill. He's a passionate, energetic, firing,
intense guy who would go to war for these guy
and of course Francona would as well, but Calgio really
wears that on his sleeve, which you saw at second
(01:02:47):
base yesterday and kind of that's why everyone likes Colin.
And then Francona then had the back of his assistant
coach as well in that moment.
Speaker 2 (01:02:54):
If you're going to hang your hat on something outside
of just the starting pitching as a reason that things
are going to get it turned around for this Reds team,
what would that be.
Speaker 8 (01:03:03):
I think the defense is better. McLean's great. I think
Ellie has really over the last few weeks, especially cut
down on the airs and I mean it feels like
he's made more catches than we've ever seen him before
because of the injuries. The injury aren't good, but the
injuries will have Espinhalt playing more third base regularly, which
is good for the defense. Heers playing a very good
(01:03:24):
first base.
Speaker 6 (01:03:26):
TJ.
Speaker 8 (01:03:26):
Friedel, CJ. Friedel, and hey, you know, while the depth
is being tested, say what you want about him. Blake Dunn,
Ree Hines and then also to an exists less so
than them, a slightly lesser tier. But Jacob Herdaby's is
better than I would say, would have a higher pure
defensive grade than maybe some of the other guys who
have been in after Reds. So they've got pitching. They've
(01:03:48):
got defense, but has the pitching depth and the back
of the bullpen that really the front of the bullpen
is that being tested so much that that's about to
start seeping through kind of some of the cracks you
need it not to. That's what makes this stretch so significant.
And again everyone's kind of just got to get rolling
again after a stretch where it felt like the Reds
I've not had much firing at all, cylinders at all.
Speaker 2 (01:04:11):
Before I let you go, Charlie, I know you were
in Atlanta because you got to see Austin over the
last couple of days when.
Speaker 4 (01:04:17):
He was there. Yeah, do you have to see me? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:04:20):
Do you have a favorite road trip to a ballpark
that you make with the Cincinnati Reds.
Speaker 8 (01:04:26):
Yes, I'll answer the question just in general. The top
tier would be hotel right by the ballpark in area
with restaurants around the ballpark. I'm gonna say my favorite.
Speaker 6 (01:04:39):
Is Toronto.
Speaker 8 (01:04:40):
Unbelievable foods been hotel attached to the baseball park. San
Diego is a top tier one. Atlanta the top tier one.
Pittsburgh's solid strong. You can never get into the hotel
right next to Wrigley Field, but I did once and
that was that was actually probably the best to be
(01:05:01):
at Wrigley Field. But that's very very exclusive, not exclusive
because the Reds were there in a week and on
a midweek in April, it was available for a reasonable rate,
So that's harder to get Memorial Day weekend where.
Speaker 17 (01:05:13):
The hats to come to it.
Speaker 8 (01:05:15):
So those are someones that stand out.
Speaker 2 (01:05:18):
Everything you're doing right now, Charlie is as much as
a must reader or must see as can be. That
the coverage you got going on is fantastic. What is
the best way for listeners, uh to be able to
follow along with everything you got?
Speaker 8 (01:05:31):
The big one Charlie's chalkboard dot substack dot com.
Speaker 9 (01:05:34):
And I've got a little teas we might have.
Speaker 8 (01:05:36):
An exciting announcement about charlie schockboard coming up.

How about leaving us with that tease, Chuck.
Speaker 5 (01:05:54):
He already told me last week when I was so
I was kind of hoping he would announce it today.
Speaker 2 (01:05:59):
Yeah, is it cool? Is it exciting?
Speaker 4 (01:06:01):
It's pretty awesome.

Speaker 5 (01:07:33):
I do want to clarify a couple of things. First
of all, I don't have any talkbacks saved from this week.
Oh so if there was one that you had as
a potential winner, I mean I'm entrusting you with that.
Speaker 2 (01:07:46):
Yeah, there was a couple that I probably didn't even
know to save them. Yeah, so I was a good one.
I wasn't here except for yesterday and now today. Yeah,
well what an opportunity for someone to leave one today?
So it does feel like and steal there's a chance
here today someone.
Speaker 4 (01:08:03):
Is you know.
Speaker 5 (01:08:03):
I heard from Drew yesterday he heard that multi personality
Mike was unhappy that his talkback did not get played,
and Drew said that he was reading the transcriptions that
are provided to us on our system here of the talkbacks,
and on it it had a curseword and so out
of an abundance of caution. Drew, doing his job correctly,
(01:08:27):
did not play the talkback, and I explained to Drew
that sometimes that happens where the transcription makes it seem
like there's a curseword, but there's not. In this particular case,
he was saying Marge shot and the transcription thought he
was saying Marge something else. So Drew did the right
(01:08:51):
thing and acted in an abundance of caution to not
play the talkback that he thought would have a curseword.
Speaker 4 (01:08:59):
Gotcha.
Speaker 5 (01:09:00):
So I did tell him Mike is clean. He's a
multi time winner, like he's somebody that you know trusting
moving forward. But just to clarify that situation, Drew did
the right thing. That's all it comes down to.
Speaker 4 (01:09:16):
This is Rick and Georgia. I'm a rigg game. Last
night in Atlanta. Another disappointing loss.
Speaker 19 (01:09:23):
The Reds are very disappointing, But at least we're not
the White Sox, the Pirates or the Rockies.
Speaker 4 (01:09:30):
Go Reds, Go Bengals.
Speaker 2 (01:09:32):
It could always be worse, is what you're saying. That's true,
but i'd like to Yeah, you know, I don't want
to be in that. Yeah, I'm picking up what you're selling.
Speaker 20 (01:09:41):
Hey guys, Jeff and New Richmond. Happy Friday to you.
Another heartbreaking loss by the Reds last night. Maybe Mo's right,
Maybe they're eighty three wins at best as far as
the Bengals go. One thing I haven't heard you guys
discuss is the Justin Tucker factor. His leg has beat
us several times over the years without him being in Baltimore.
Speaker 2 (01:10:06):
I think this the North runs through us.
Speaker 4 (01:10:09):
I really do.
Speaker 2 (01:10:10):
Take okay, all right, the North runs through here.
Speaker 4 (01:10:16):
Hmm.
Speaker 5 (01:10:17):
Interesting he said eighty three wins. I was listening to
Lance last night lose his mind on the postgame show.
Lance said something that I didn't even realize this. It
just the way I don't know the way he said.
It just struck me. The Reds haven't had more than
eighty three wins in a season since twenty thirteen.
Speaker 2 (01:10:37):
Man, that's insane.
Speaker 4 (01:10:40):
Isn't that crazy?
Speaker 2 (01:10:41):
That's insane?
Speaker 5 (01:10:42):
And Lance was kind of making the point how every
year this all just ends up.
Speaker 2 (01:10:46):
Back in the same spot. It's so frustrating.
Speaker 21 (01:10:49):
Gosh, Hello, this is former President Ronald Reagan. Well, I'm
going to translate a few Reds phrases you've been hearing lately.
The first is we need to work on situational baseball. Yes,
that means we are bad at fundamental. The phrase he
felt something grab that means the Reds medical staff missed
another minor injury that just became serious. And lastly, the
(01:11:13):
phrase he'll be out for a couple of games means
he'll be put on the I L in a few days.
Speaker 2 (01:11:18):
Yep, yep, we'll see you in three weeks.
Speaker 13 (01:11:21):
Ye Hi, guys, I'm still rolling strong with Leonardo. We
just touched down Chicago. They raped me out of that
ECOD city under suspicion that I stuffed the ballot box
for a local guy.
Speaker 21 (01:11:42):
Just me.
Speaker 13 (01:11:42):
That's quite got teris Red don't win, Red don't whin?
Speaker 2 (01:11:50):
Yeah they know they don't hair Oh man, sorry man.
Did you see the photos surfacing of the Pope at
the two thousand and five World Series in the White
Sox and the Astros.
Speaker 4 (01:12:02):
It's pretty cool.
Speaker 13 (01:12:04):
Yeah, it was a rough flight with Leonardo. We grabbed
a couple of Chicago sald Deep slices and throw back
a couple of puteuses.
Speaker 3 (01:12:17):
Hey, hey, do you know why Leandardo.
Speaker 13 (01:12:22):
Chose's pope name after one of the teenage.
Speaker 2 (01:12:26):
Turned Oh, I didn't know that inquiry, but I did
not know that.
Speaker 22 (01:12:36):
Oh hey, I just got out of the shower, and
that's extremely TMI. But yeah, I gotta rank them when
it comes to showering.
Speaker 4 (01:12:47):
What is the least likely body part that you wash
really well in the shower?
Speaker 22 (01:12:56):
Your feet, your back that's really hard to reach, or
inside your ears.
Speaker 2 (01:13:06):
We had a whole thing about this a couple of
years ago. For me, it's my back. It's hard to
get to. But a lot of times you kind of
just let gravity do the work up top and everything. Yeah,
I was down with the soap, especially with your feet.
Speaker 4 (01:13:18):
I'll tell you.
Speaker 5 (01:13:19):
One of my pet peeves is I hate when I like,
I'm always cleaning my ears out.
Speaker 4 (01:13:23):
Oh that's I'm always doing that.
Speaker 22 (01:13:25):
Yeah, hey, Tony, I forgot to tell you. I finally
cut my grass. I don't know if audie's there today.
I mean, he's dude's never there, never on the radio.
Speaker 4 (01:13:38):
I don't know what his deal is. He's always been
like that. Anyway.
Speaker 22 (01:13:43):
I finally cut my grass because the Reds won the
other day. You talk about Welcome to the Jungle Man.
It took me like two hours to cut my grass
because the Reds finally won.
Speaker 2 (01:13:57):
That's a fun game to play. You can only cut
your grass from the Red wins, Josh.
Speaker 4 (01:14:03):
God, from.
Speaker 2 (01:14:05):
This guy.
Speaker 3 (01:14:07):
The Reds just can't win. No, Hey, fellas, it's finny.
Speaker 23 (01:14:14):
I can't help to be pumped up and kind of
happy about these this Red collapse.
Speaker 3 (01:14:19):
Man, it's kind of funny.
Speaker 8 (01:14:21):
Man. Everyone was like, Terry Frank COONa, Man, he's gonna
come in turn this team around.
Speaker 3 (01:14:26):
Man, Billy Dela Hamilton.
Speaker 2 (01:14:29):
Is gonna be the next Thady there is now because
we've got Frank COONa.
Speaker 7 (01:14:33):
Man.
Speaker 13 (01:14:33):
I couldn't how many.
Speaker 10 (01:14:34):
Times pre season do you guys talk about Ellie Ellie,
Ellie the guy's terrible.
Speaker 3 (01:14:39):
This team all day was strike out man.
Speaker 4 (01:14:42):
Billy Dela Hamilton.
Speaker 24 (01:14:44):
Has got for the double dip. Hey, the next time
you two both go out of town and are on vacation,
can you get either James Rapine or maybe Snop Bubbles
to showing.
Speaker 4 (01:14:56):
For you guys, Bubbles, No more.
Speaker 7 (01:14:59):
Trags or Chad Brendall.
Speaker 2 (01:15:02):
You you weren't here that when I first got back,
the amount of heat that our guy Trags took in
talkbacks on Tuesday. Really, it's something I've never seen before,
and I don't. I don't understand because I like Trags. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:15:17):
I mean he's also never done the show before, right,
so I would you give the man a little bit
of grace. I didn't hear any of it, but all right, Yes,
it wasn't good.
Speaker 25 (01:15:27):
I was listening to your show yesterday.
Speaker 3 (01:15:32):
I agree with Talkback mat.
Speaker 25 (01:15:34):
This guy Angles should go out do whatever they can
to sign to dat him Cloud, and while they're at it,
go ahead and extend Trey Hendrick.
Speaker 2 (01:15:57):
That's good. That's good, finishing up my day.
Speaker 26 (01:16:01):
About to start dumping some bud lights and smoking some eaters.
Speaker 2 (01:16:04):
Shocker.
Speaker 26 (01:16:05):
But I was sitting there this morning watching the Georgia
Clemson tape. Yeah, watching child Man. That dude is a beast.
I'm telling you, watch good. I think it's our first
game of.
Speaker 27 (01:16:16):
The season too.
Speaker 4 (01:16:17):
I don't know it just it just happened to be
the first one I found.
Speaker 2 (01:16:20):
But man, he's a beast.
Speaker 26 (01:16:21):
Austin eighteen hundred and ninety some days and we're about
to hit two thousand. Can't wait.
Speaker 5 (01:16:26):
There was something I missed while I was gone, which
was Sharon Moore in Michigan, Yeah, doing a self imposed
two game ban in which he got to choose which games?
Speaker 2 (01:16:39):
Yeah, I say, does he just they just pick the games.
I have a question if someone accused you of a terrible,
terrible crime and you didn't do it, would you say,
you know what, I didn't do this, but I'm still
gonna go serve three months in jail.
Speaker 4 (01:16:57):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:16:57):
I've always thought of this. I've always thought of it
in different settings. I would fight until I couldn't fight anymore.
Speaker 4 (01:17:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:17:05):
So I've never.
Speaker 5 (01:17:06):
Understood that idea to self impose a sanction but still
say that we didn't do anything wrong. That is BS
and it is a lie. And Michigan has lied from
the very beginning. And I'll tell you what. The swift
hand of justice is coming for that program. Speak on
the hand, and they will take away that national championship,
(01:17:28):
and they should because all of it is invalid.
Speaker 4 (01:17:31):
Speak on the hand of Jodh.
Speaker 2 (01:17:33):
And at that point, George, you won't want anything to
do with me.
Speaker 4 (01:17:35):
Powell. Oh, I can promise you that. You know.
Speaker 5 (01:17:38):
I was at a local establishment a couple of weeks ago.
I was crushing some wings, drinking a couple of beers,
watching the Red Legs, and there was this insufferable man
next to me. He wouldn't shut up about his bets,
and he was talking to these women and they were
getting really annoyed by him, and he was trying to
talk to me, and I was ignoring him. I was
(01:17:59):
just miserable sitting next to this guy. And then some
other schmuck comes up to the bar and this guy says.
They start talking, and guy says, oh, I'm a Michigan fan.
And I'm thinking, oh, here we go. And the guy
says to him, Yeah, you guys got some some sanctions
coming right Michigan. Man goes, no, no, no, we're not
(01:18:22):
getting in trouble. If we would have gotten in trouble,
we it would have happened. By now it's all over.
We're clean, we're good. Two weeks later, Michigan puts their
own sanctions on and we're about to have it's gonna
happen this summer. They're gonna take all that stuff away.
Michigan's gonna appeal. How can you appeal if you've already
(01:18:42):
given yourself sanction up.
Speaker 2 (01:18:46):
Hey, we're gonna do this to ourselves, and then we're
gonna go ahead and appeal it.
Speaker 5 (01:18:48):
You should look up the list of coaches that were
there during the Harball Era that have either committed n
C double A in fractions or violations, or been arrested
for other activities that are against the law, including but
not limited to, identity theft, trying to meet a minor
(01:19:10):
for you know what, fraud, and so much more. That's
the Michigan way.
Speaker 4 (01:19:17):
Bad gosh.
Speaker 28 (01:19:18):
I can't wait for a football season, folks, these friends,
I just ca we only have four months to go
to We're in that stadium only three months till the preseason,
folks were so close.
Speaker 3 (01:19:31):
Had Ben Joe all summer? Let's go, all right. I
got a question for you, Austin Tony.
Speaker 28 (01:19:36):
You have to pick Q talkbackers to be the new
Bengals radio commentators based on their you know, performance vocally
and also their football knowledge.
Speaker 3 (01:19:45):
Which two are you picking? Whody?
Speaker 2 (01:19:47):
Oh man, Oh, that's a good question, A great question.
One of mine would be Loud talkback Guy. Two talkbackers
to be the new Bengals radio basically a poor performance
vocally and also their football knowledge. I mean loud talkback guy.
I think he encompasses all of that.
Speaker 5 (01:20:06):
I think I'm gonna take balling ain't easy for play
by play Now, I'm gonna take balling because every.
Speaker 2 (01:20:12):
Big moment that he's been in, he's lost and you
can't get caught up in a big play and fail
to deliver on a call. It's easy to do preseason games.
Speaker 5 (01:20:21):
You could say, I mean an easy, easy one would
be Harry Carey obviously the experience, right.
Speaker 2 (01:20:27):
I think loud talkback guy is my is my color
guy because he's just gonna react and he's gonna bring energy.
Speaker 4 (01:20:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:20:34):
Well, I kind of want to say Johnny and ballin.
Ah See, I don't know about Johnny who's our or
what about balling? And Craig from the U who's our guy?
That can do so many different impersonations and he does
a great Bill Walton, Drew Drew. Yeah, I think I'm
going Drew Drew and loud talk back guy. You know what,
I think I'll go Drew. No, hold on, I'm gonna
(01:20:58):
go Balling. Ain't easy. And Ryan, Oh, Ryan does a
lot of different ones too. Okay, Ryan does the trump
that's really really good.
Speaker 3 (01:21:08):
So eat Friday.
Speaker 28 (01:21:10):
So that's the drink recommendation of the weekend. Folks, just
tried something new I want you all try this weekend.
It's called Occasion lemonade. So make lemonade however you want.
I don't care if it's the powder mix. You want
to back the store, squeeze your lemons fresh. Then you're
gonna add some vodka. You're gonna add some prims number
one in there, that's a laquoreall. And then you're going
(01:21:30):
to add a little bit of worn juice, and then
some hot sauce Dabasco Skyline shake it up.
Speaker 29 (01:21:38):
Okay, Okay, gott I'm Chili sauce, Samer Kendelario Happy, Mother's
everybody go right.
Speaker 4 (01:21:54):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 5 (01:21:55):
The Reds are so desperate they take Jamber back right there?
Would you rather have Jamber or Blake done? Probably Wilder hitting.
Speaker 8 (01:22:03):
You up on Madrid just yet.
Speaker 23 (01:22:04):
Local Washington media seems to be convinced they're playing on
Thanksgiving instead of playing in Madrid. And like most said,
his contacts with inside the Bengals don't know anything. Nobody
at the Commanders has heard anything either, so there's still
hope for a nice two week road trigger.
Speaker 2 (01:22:18):
I can't wait for this to get announced, so Jeff
will stop talking about Madrid. Man Tony Austin balling, Oh
my god, I'm.
Speaker 30 (01:22:28):
An excited to announce that I've signed an extension with
the DJ forty years, one point eight million, not a
dime guaranteed incentives.
Speaker 2 (01:22:39):
Yeah, there's a few pizza party.
Speaker 3 (01:22:41):
When they screw up big time. Come on, Uh, that's it.
That's all we got.
Speaker 2 (01:22:47):
Congratulations. Yeah, I'm waiting to hear wait a scoop schefter
on that. I thought that would be an announcement that
he is back into the Memorial Day three on three tournament. Well,
you would think that this is he. That was probably
part of the negotiation.
Speaker 31 (01:23:01):
To thank you so much for taking my call. I
was just gonna put out a p s A. If
any of y'all need flowers for your mother's this weekend,
you can hit me up. I am a flores and
another thing.
Speaker 10 (01:23:15):
I quit.
Speaker 31 (01:23:17):
You know, red lips on Mother's Days.
Speaker 4 (01:23:19):
They're always slow. They never get the cheese, a biscuits.
Speaker 2 (01:23:23):
The flores.
Speaker 27 (01:23:24):
Mark, Mark calling in from Floores? How about resigns. I
can't hear it because sorry, Mark calling in from Florence.
How about resigns for the rest of the season. I
want to see how many he can run into. You know,
have to play, you know, Blake Dunn seeing enough for
(01:23:47):
him so that let's see, let's see resigns.
Speaker 4 (01:23:50):
For the rest of the season.
Speaker 2 (01:23:51):
Okay, I don't mark with a double depth. I don't
hate that.
Speaker 32 (01:23:58):
I agree with you the asscraft. Asscraft just cannot throw
strikes and.
Speaker 14 (01:24:04):
He needs to throw strikes.
Speaker 32 (01:24:06):
Even when he was a starter, Ascraft you know, would
just be inconsistent. And you know that's pretty much what
put Ashcraft in the bol We've got the same situation now.
Speaker 4 (01:24:19):
He's not dependable and if.
Speaker 20 (01:24:22):
Ashcraft want to keep his job, he's going.
Speaker 4 (01:24:24):
To have to come up at the course. M Yeah,
I'll see what you're doing. Hey Austin, Hey Tony. First
of all, I want to say Happy.
Speaker 10 (01:24:34):
Mother's Day to all the level league women out there.
Speaker 2 (01:24:37):
Yes, and what a rough way to lose for the
Reds last night.
Speaker 4 (01:24:41):
That was That was rough.
Speaker 12 (01:24:44):
That team doesn't seem like they have any energy, lack
a spark, doesn't look like they're having fun playing the game. Anyway,
the Reds, they should win two out of three at Houston,
have a good weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:24:57):
Okay, two out of three should How do you justify that?
Because they're eighteen and eighteen?
Speaker 4 (01:25:03):
Hey, Tony, TJ.
Speaker 33 (01:25:05):
East Side this morning for the officer Henderson professional. Yeah,
we're really moving to see the show of support and
all the turnout from all the area wide first responders.
So I just want to do throw out a quick
Sincy three sixties talkbackers shout out thank you to all
the local first responders, police, Inspire Medical for all their efforts.
Speaker 4 (01:25:26):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:25:26):
Yeah, Officer Henderson was a huge part, as I mentioned
earlier in the week of U of my time with
with UC football and traveling and uh nothing but amazing
things to say and uh hope for for nothing but
uh the best for his family going forward after a
very hard time.
Speaker 4 (01:25:42):
You know that's a good point.
Speaker 5 (01:25:43):
I'm sure there are a lot of first responders, police
officers now this is it are listening to Cincy three
sixty daily, yep, but they may not be able to
call in or leave a talk back. So you know,
that might be my leader right now. I like that
for that, I like that.
Speaker 4 (01:26:00):
Got him.
Speaker 3 (01:26:00):
This guy got a which would you rather have for
your question?
Speaker 11 (01:26:04):
Tone you were saying yesterday that you see his post
spring practice ranked one oh three?
Speaker 3 (01:26:11):
Yes, would you rather have.
Speaker 11 (01:26:13):
The post spring practice ranking of one o three or
maso from the Ville's career total points at Deer Park
High School, which also happens to be a grand total
of one O three.
Speaker 2 (01:26:29):
I'll take the Bearcats football program.
Speaker 5 (01:26:31):
Oh man, I'll take Maso's one O three. That's a
great hundred high school points. That's one hundred and three
more than I had.
Speaker 2 (01:26:36):
Yeah, he hit the century mark. Yeah, that's It's like
he was eighty six more than my cousin Jordan. Now
you have to say with that though, he was a
four year starter. That's okay, So he only got to win. No, No,
they were the team in high school. And I don't
like saying bad things about places, but Willie Cunningham is
a great advocate for Deer Park and they've done great things.
They've won state championship.
Speaker 4 (01:26:56):
Saying bad things.
Speaker 2 (01:26:57):
They got a new turf. But uh, how do you
start for four years in high school and just barely
eclipse the one hundred point mark. I'm sure that happens
quite a bit. Did they have a guy like a
Hooper go to score?
Speaker 4 (01:27:10):
Now?
Speaker 2 (01:27:10):
I mean Maso was probably the fourth out of the
starting five as a go to guy. But for so
many times you play against them, it was you know
you you knew it was, Hey, let's go give it
a good quarter and a half, maybe two quarters, and
we'll get to rest the wrest.
Speaker 5 (01:27:23):
Of the when Maso was playing, was Willy sending money
under the table to him?
Speaker 2 (01:27:28):
That's a great question. I don't have to ask Maso that.
Speaker 4 (01:27:30):
I kind of would assume me.
Speaker 2 (01:27:31):
Well, I mean, yeah, it's kind of what will he does?
Yees doesn't really follow the rules, So it's a good point.
Speaker 5 (01:27:37):
I would assume there's been some cash exchange between Maso
and Bill Cunners cash considerations. Yeah, you want to talk
about a dude that would fight if he was accused
of doing something wrong.
Speaker 4 (01:27:50):
That guy w'd be Bill Cunningham.
Speaker 2 (01:27:51):
Yeah, all right, that was our last one. You know,
I think I agree with you on the first respondent.
Speaker 4 (01:27:57):
Yeah, I think that makes it so normally.
Speaker 2 (01:27:58):
We take this in a different way. But to have
the wherewithal to shout out all those first responders and
those that make a difference, I think that's our winner
this week. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:28:06):
This so that goes to TJ. TJ from the East Side,
keep an eye on your email. I'm going to send
you an email here in a couple of minutes.
Speaker 2 (01:28:13):
TJ. Congratulations. That is talkbacks. We will wrap up our

Hey, do you run a small business but have.
Speaker 1 (01:29:42):
News on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's sports station.
Speaker 2 (01:29:58):
Welcome back since he three to sixty ESBN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports station and a service of Cincy shirts. We
just have a couple minutes here. We've we've been wall
to wall here pretty much with the Cincinnati Reds, and
we got a chance to talk to Garlot Charlie Goldsmith.
We're going to talk some FC Cincinnati and we're gonna
talk about some happenings over the weekend at Oakley Greens.
(01:30:20):
And we'll check in with our resident novacare experts in
our number three. But before we got to that, Austin,
I want to get your opinion on something I saw
this from on three Sports. A sixteen team college football
playoff bracket is quote gaining support in the Big Ten
and the SEC. Per Ross Dellinger. Now, in this sixteen
(01:30:43):
team format, there would be four bids for the SEC,
four bids for the Big Ten, two bids out of
the ACC, two bids out of the Big twelve, one
group of six, and then three at large teams. The
Big ten in the SEC could have playing games together three.
Speaker 4 (01:31:04):
Verse six, four verse five.
Speaker 2 (01:31:05):
But your overall thought, because you're guaranteeing twelve of the
sixteen bids to the SEC, Big twelve, ACC and the
Big twelve, when you see or hear reports like that,
what's your immediate thought. I've never hated anything more and
I hope it never happens.
Speaker 5 (01:31:22):
Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, bad, dumb, stupid, idiotic, don't do it.
I don't care if it benefits the Big Ten. I
don't care if it helps Ohio State. No twelve best teams,
no automatic bids. Dumb dumb, dumb. Yeah, but it's not
gonna change because there's a ton of money and everybody watches,
(01:31:44):
and so because of that, everybody thinks college football.
Speaker 2 (01:31:46):
Is a good product. Stupid. I'm just not there. How's
that good for everybody? It's not okay? I adamantly disagree
with it as well. I I didn't think this year
was as bad as maybe I thought it was going
to be going in. I'm okay with where it sits now,
(01:32:08):
but much like the NCAA basketball tournament, I don't want
to see any additions because then it doesn't become as
I don't even know what the word I'm looking. It's
inclusive right now. With where it is, it still is
a hard, hard task to reach that level. If you
(01:32:28):
move it to sixteen, I just and I can make
the argument that it would be good for UCEE because
a second place Big twelve team would play in the
College Football Playoff, But even at that, I just I
can't get behind that right now from a college football standpoint,
always and forever will hate automatic bids. What would you?
(01:32:49):
What would you?
Speaker 5 (01:32:49):
Because there are it's not always going to be either
four SEC teams should get in or four Big ten
teams should get in, because sometimes those aren't the four
best teams in the country. Yeah, you know what I mean, Like,
give me, if you're gonna go to sixteen, give me
the best sixteen. I said, if you're gonna go to twelve,
give me the best twelve. But no, they keep throwing
(01:33:11):
automatic bids in there, and it's dumb. It's not a
way to crown a champion as far as I'm concerned.
Speaker 2 (01:33:17):
Yeah, if there were a lesser of the two evils
and you had to pick one, would you go to
sixteen in this or would you expand the college basketball
tournament you got to pick one? Um, I would probably
expand the college back me till Yeah, yep, that's adding
four games. Correct, that's not gonna. Yeah, that's not gonna.
(01:33:37):
I don't want that to happen. But I don't want
either to happen. But I lean on the same Tommy
g Is is not evil at all. Tommy g is
one of the best, and he'll join us to kick
off our number three I need to. It's a wellness
check on Tommy f c fell last week. But his
Cleveland Cavaliers are down oh two and they lost both
(01:33:58):
in Cleveland and now they've got to go to Indie tonight.
And on top of that Shador Sanders is a Cleveland Brown.
We got a lot to catch up with, Tommy. We'll
do that when we return. Cincy three sixty thanks to
Cincy Shirts on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

final hour on a Friday, which you know what it means.
The voice of FC Cincinnati standing by to join us.
Tom Gallaerder Tommy, Tommy, Tommy, what's going on?
Speaker 4 (01:34:54):
Tony, Tony, Tony, Happy Friday.
Speaker 19 (01:34:56):
Good to be with you this afternoon. Glad you're back
from your rest. Last fright, we missed you, but the
show went on and and now we got the whole
gang back together and ready to fire it up for
the weekend.
Speaker 4 (01:35:07):
If it is good, brother.
Speaker 2 (01:35:08):
I can't help, but at least put the hand up
and feel a little bit responsible. I wasn't here last Friday.
The team had won five matches in a row. I
don't show up on Friday, the team loses, and not
only that, but the reverberating effect here Tommy of the
Cleveland Cavaliers, also losing their first two games at home
before we even dive into the Orange Blue. What are
(01:35:28):
your thoughts on the makeup of this Cavs team now
down oh two heading to Indie tonight.
Speaker 19 (01:35:33):
I mean, Tony, I hope that some guys could dig
deep and find their inner Tony Pike and play through
some pain for crying out loud, I mean, how many
bones did.
Speaker 4 (01:35:45):
You have broken that you played through one game?
Speaker 2 (01:35:47):
Thank you, Tommy? Multiple? Multiple?
Speaker 19 (01:35:49):
I mean multiple, Like you popped a couple of tailand off,
grab nice back and got back out there. That's it,
And I'm not calling anybody out, but boys, we're in
the Eastern Conference semi finals. Down two oh, We're gonna
need some people to dig deep tonight. I mean Donovan
Mitchell dug deep in game two and just I don't
even want to talk about it.
Speaker 4 (01:36:07):
Can we move on?
Speaker 3 (01:36:08):
How would your.
Speaker 4 (01:36:11):
How did he go?
Speaker 2 (01:36:12):
It was good? Uh? You know, I I didn't know
at that age, Tommy all you need, you need an infielder.
Speaker 4 (01:36:19):
Sick.
Speaker 2 (01:36:19):
He's four, but it's four, five, six and seven year olds,
which is a little bit a little bit more difficult.
Those six and seven year olds to pop off the
bat is different. I realized if you've got a first
basement and an infielder, you can do some damage. And yeah,
I want to say his first at bat ever, he
hit a laser to shortstop. This kid looked like Ellie
(01:36:40):
going into the hole, come on and through it like
ninety nine across the infield. First basement catches it, and
he's just like stunned, like I hit the ball. I
did what I was supposed to do.
Speaker 9 (01:36:50):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:36:50):
It was stunning. Yeah, but then he got on base
the next couple of times, So it was a good
learning lesson early.
Speaker 30 (01:36:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 19 (01:36:58):
Yeah, I mean, listen, you gotta stay humble and and
I mean he goes four for four in his first game,
You're never gonna hear that. I think I think that
that that that ground out kind of set the tone back,
obviously mentally strong. Apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
I'm talking about his mother obviously. So No, that's awesome.
I love seeing the pictures.
Speaker 4 (01:37:18):
It's fun.
Speaker 2 (01:37:19):
He was more excited about the eye black than anything else.
Speaker 4 (01:37:22):
Yeah, I mean, who is it? So that doesn't change
love it.
Speaker 2 (01:37:27):
Let's talk about that. The loss New York City FC.
It was an early goal, which this team has kind
of stayed away from allowing, and in a game where
you're on the road against a team that, at least
on paper you feel like you should beat, that early
goal feels like it just completely shifts the momentum. What
(01:37:47):
went wrong last weekend for e FC.
Speaker 4 (01:37:51):
I'll be honest, Tony.
Speaker 19 (01:37:52):
I thought from the opening whistles, New York City had
control of the match, and and Kevin and I are
up there watching it, and it just it just felt weird.
Speaker 4 (01:38:00):
You know. Right away, New York City had chances.
Speaker 19 (01:38:03):
They f c Sin Santy was sloppy in their passing,
and there were just no opportunities early for the Orange Blue,
and then New York City get the goal, you know,
and there's a penalty moments later, and you're like, holy
moldly a quarter hour in, it's gonna be two Dill.
This is just an utter disaster, and you know, Roman
gets fortunate that you know he gets is wrong. But
(01:38:24):
the penalty kick hits the woodwork and comes out to
keep it one nil, and that kept f C Cincinnati
in the game. But it just wasn't a very crisp
first half. For whatever reason, the team struggles when they
go into that building. Lost three to one in Game
two of the playoffs last year, you know, tied the
year before that, I think it was or maybe two
years earlier when they played their city field, So I
(01:38:44):
haven't spent a lot of time there. But it's just,
you know, a tighter pitch and New York City seems
to give trouble to f C Cincinnati. It's kind of
old been the case across the history of the series,
you know, regardless of who's been the head coach.
Speaker 4 (01:38:57):
So I think it was disappointing effort.
Speaker 19 (01:38:58):
Obviously, Patt Newtan was very pointed at a halftime when
he talked to us and the team came out and
he created some opportunities in the second half.
Speaker 4 (01:39:05):
He made a couple of changes in tactics.
Speaker 19 (01:39:06):
He made a couple of changes in personnel, and I
thought it brought some life into the team, but there
just weren't enough clear cut, great opportunities to score goals.
Speaker 4 (01:39:17):
There was a couple to get that one.
Speaker 19 (01:39:18):
Back and maybe get out of there with a draw,
and and in the end, it was just a bad
day and you're gonna have days like that, and it
didn't go in favor of the Orange and Blue.
Speaker 2 (01:39:27):
From a positive standpoint, are there things even in a loss,
and we've talked about this before, but even in a
loss that you were able to see against that team
that can get you back on track going into tomorrow.
Speaker 19 (01:39:39):
I mean, I think you're not playing on a baseball
field and that's a positive tomorrow, you know. But you know,
home performance standpoint, I thought he saw some good minutes
from data Vealezuela, encouraging minutes off the bench, and obviously
we've seen Donald score a game winning goal with DC
about a month ago, so you know, I thought it
was good the energy that he brought coming into the
MATCHI you remember he was missing their two starters in
(01:40:02):
the defensive midfield at Pavel Buca and Albino Warbedo, and
Pat said that Pavel was out of concussion protocol, so
he should be cleared and involved in this match tomorrow.
So I think that that is a positive. They really
struggled without those guys. They've struggled in the minutes when
Pavel hasn't been on the pitch this year, and that's
been very, very evident. So I think that those factors.
(01:40:23):
I think, like I said, Donna was good off the
bench at Sergio, had a couple of good runs off
the bench, But overall, I think it's one of those
days you kind of have to scratch off the list
and say, we had a bad day.
Speaker 4 (01:40:33):
Let's turn the page.
Speaker 19 (01:40:34):
And the good news is they're coming home where they've
been very good at Tiquel Stadium.
Speaker 2 (01:40:38):
It is it's it's a luxury to be able to
go on the road and stumble and still look up
and you're just two points behind the Columbus crew in
the standings at twenty two, tied with the Philadelphia Union,
one ahead of Inner Miami. So when you take out
and I know you can't just take it out, but
moving past the the New York City match, the five
(01:41:01):
game winning streak regardless of competition, how they get it
done From an MLS standpoint, how hard is that to
do to win and collect three points in five consecutive matches.
Speaker 4 (01:41:12):
No, it's not easy.
Speaker 19 (01:41:13):
And that Seasoncinnati Dugde they're trying to make it six
in a row, which would have been I think tied
for the second longest win streak in club history. Look,
this team, Tony is one third basically the way through
the regular season. You play a thirty four match regular season,
so you're eleven games in, you've only lost three times.
I'm pretty sure that any team in any sport would
take that rate of success that gives you twenty two
(01:41:35):
points through eleven games multiplied by three, that's sixty six
points with an.
Speaker 4 (01:41:40):
Additional game to get you one or maybe three.
Speaker 19 (01:41:44):
You know, so you're looking at, you know, on pace
for a max of sixty nine points.
Speaker 4 (01:41:48):
You know, at that rate, it is gonna put you
in a.
Speaker 19 (01:41:51):
Really good place and maybe in another supporter shield attention
conversation if you continue it. So, I think you've done
the right things. I think the five match winning streak
was great. I think that we're starting to see the
team come together finally. You know, the biggest disappointment going
in the New York City game was the conversation during
the week was that the entire team is healthy again
and that Pat finally had his full best eleven to
(01:42:12):
choose from, or had his full roster to choose his
best eleven and put out there against the New York
City team that we knew would provide some challenges. But
late in the week you have the head injury for
Pavel Buka and then he's not eligible to play as
he goes into protocols and then it'll being a wobbedoe
kind of tightens up from a knock he had picked
up earlier. So you lose those two regular starters who
(01:42:33):
are such a vital piece of how this team moves
through the middle of the pitch, and.
Speaker 4 (01:42:38):
It makes it difficult. I think now you have Pavel
back in.
Speaker 19 (01:42:40):
We'll see what obi status is tomorrow when the team
sheet comes out.
Speaker 4 (01:42:44):
But no, I think you're start to see this team
come together.
Speaker 19 (01:42:47):
I think we're gonna see more of these win streaks
as they put it together, and the opportunity to start
the next one comes tomorrow against Austin.
Speaker 2 (01:42:55):
The eye test is something before we get to the
Austin match, The eye test is something we always talk
about in sports of you know, does a team have
the makeup to be a contender for a championship? Are
they competitive but not there yet? How do you feel
about this squad who underwent so many different changes and
coming together and trying to get the time to work
on that while your schedule is hectic. How do you
(01:43:17):
view this team from a MLS standpoint when you start
to look ahead to contenders.
Speaker 19 (01:43:22):
Oh, I mean, I think from an eye test standpoint,
you have to say that they're passing.
Speaker 4 (01:43:26):
The grade right now.
Speaker 19 (01:43:27):
Right you have a fourth year goalkeeper in Rome celent
Tano who's providing stability there.
Speaker 4 (01:43:30):
You just got the twenty twenty three defender of the
Year Matt.
Speaker 19 (01:43:33):
Miasga back into the mix and he's working his way
back in the match fitness. You know, you have a
fantastic defender on one side of him, Miles Robinson and
a hometown hero Nick Haglini the other. Plus some depth
now with guys healthy like Hilberto Flores and teenage A Dabi.
Speaker 4 (01:43:47):
So they played three matches in eight days this week.
Speaker 19 (01:43:49):
We're going to see some rotations, certainly on that back
line and the pieces are there to provide it.
Speaker 4 (01:43:55):
You have important pieces in the midfield.
Speaker 19 (01:43:57):
You have your your wing backs in good spots and
then look your new additions in Kevin Dnke sixteen million dollars.
He has six goals, four of them are game winners.
You went out, you got a vander for twelve million.
He has six goals and assists. He's very much in
that MVP conversation right now. And Luca Orshano has been contributing.
Speaker 4 (01:44:14):
You know, it only has the.
Speaker 19 (01:44:15):
Two assists, doesn't have a goal yet, and we're all
kind of waiting on that first league goal for Luca
Orsono and it's going to come.
Speaker 4 (01:44:22):
Absolutely.
Speaker 19 (01:44:23):
He has a skill set, you know, probably pressing a
little bit right now because he knows he hasn't scored
in a Major league soccer match this year, but it's
going to come. And when those floodgates open, you add him.
And now that attacking trio is extremely dangerous. So we
haven't seen them out there a lot together, but they're
getting more comfortable and so I think from the way
(01:44:44):
that Chris Albright.
Speaker 4 (01:44:45):
Built this team from the eye test, yeah, they very
much pass.
Speaker 19 (01:44:50):
Maybe there's a piece or two where they think they
need to improve going in the summer. Absolutely, but listen,
that's life. Everybody can improve. You can prove your team,
you can improve. You know, whatever whatever you do, you job,
everything we do, we can improve in.
Speaker 4 (01:45:02):
So I think there's.
Speaker 19 (01:45:03):
Ways that they will look at it in trying to
improve during the summer window. But that from a construction standpoint,
they did a really good job putting this team together.
They got through the busy stretch and now they can
find some rhythm here in May with bodies healthy.
Speaker 2 (01:45:19):
Looking ahead to tomorrow at TQL Stadium, Austin FC, they
are kind of middle of the pack in the Western
Conference standings. What do you know about Austin FC and
what's going to be the key to victory for f
C Cincinnati.
Speaker 4 (01:45:32):
Look, it's going to bring old friend Brandon Basquez back
to town.
Speaker 19 (01:45:35):
Signed as a designated player from Monterey during the offseason.
Speaker 4 (01:45:38):
He has two goals this season in regular season play.
Speaker 19 (01:45:41):
He actually scored twice on Wednesday night, They're playing in
Open Cup action down two to oh and Brandon had
two goals and an assist to bring them back to
knockoff hill pass passo three to two final on Wednesday.
Not that also means a lot of the guys played
on Wednesday, So they're in a stretch. Now, this is
their second match of four games in a days, you know,
(01:46:01):
so Austin has to travel up here.
Speaker 4 (01:46:03):
But yeah, it's a team, like you said, five to
five and one.
Speaker 19 (01:46:06):
All five games that they've won this year, they scored first,
and all five times that they've allowed the first goal,
they've lost. So it's been a real bowler coaster for
Nico Estebez coming over in his first season. Of course,
he was with SC Dallas for a couple of years,
you know. And and look, f C Cincinnati is one
of two teams in the league that have not lost
a game at home this season four oh one. You know,
(01:46:27):
they've reestablished Tikio Stadium as a fortress. You know, obviously
that was the case in twenty twenty three when they
won the Supporter Shield. It has to be the case,
I think if you want to win a supporter Shield.
Last year, that home for him slipped a little bit,
and I think was frustrating for everybody.
Speaker 4 (01:46:40):
Frustrating for Ford office, for.
Speaker 19 (01:46:42):
The players, the coaches, fans, the broadcasters, everybody. Right, it
stinks when when you're not in formed at home, but
the team very much is. So I think you got to,
you know, regroup, put your foot on the gas. Get
off to a quick start, because again I just gave
you a stat Austin when they concede the first goal,
have their backs against the wall and seemed to fail
to come from behind.
Speaker 4 (01:47:02):
So get off to a quick start.
Speaker 19 (01:47:04):
Electrifyt the stadium, get a Kevin Dnk Gold or Vander
or Luka or Sinos first of the season, and the
place will be buzzing. I think it's gonna be a
sellout again, is what I heard today. Uh so, look,
it's gonna be a capacity crowd. Brandon obviously will get
a nice return applause from the crowd. He came back
last year in Monterey, scored. He scored against f C
Cincinnati in the game in Monterey, in the return leg
(01:47:26):
there in KNKCAFT Champions Cup.
Speaker 4 (01:47:27):
I love Brandy, but let's not see a Brandon Basquez
go tomorrow. I think we can all agree. I think
we can all agree on that.
Speaker 19 (01:47:33):
I hope Brandon scores a whole bunch of goals, but
not one tomorrow at TQL Stadium.
Speaker 4 (01:47:37):
I mean, he's come in with the national team, he's
scored there.
Speaker 19 (01:47:39):
He obviously scored a whole bunch with f C Cincinnati,
and he's a fantastic player and a better human being,
so I will always root for him. I will not
be rooting for him tomorrow, but but but he's a
great guy and I know everybody will be be happy.
Speaker 4 (01:47:53):
To see him.
Speaker 19 (01:47:53):
But yeah, this this Austin team has some good weapons.
And you know they have now veteran goalkeeper and Brad Stuber.
He's been there in the entire since Austin came on
as an expansion club, And it'd be a very interesting matchup. Remember,
these two teams faced each other this first time Austin's
ever come to Queen City. Pat Newton's first ever game
as head coach was the last time we saw Austin FC,
(01:48:14):
and that was an utter disaster. Good news this he
turned it around ever since, So I think it'll be
a very very intriguing matchup. There's not many players I
think there's four on each team that remained on the
roster who dressed for that game in February on a cold,
just miserable day down at.
Speaker 4 (01:48:31):
Q two Stadium.
Speaker 19 (01:48:32):
So I'm very intrigued to kind of see how these
two teams match up Historically, Patt Newon's teams have done
very well against the Western Conference, and hopefully that continues.
Speaker 4 (01:48:40):
Tomorrow night at seven.
Speaker 2 (01:48:41):
Thirty, Tom Gilair to the Voice of FC Cincinnati before
I let you go. Have you ordered your Shador Sanders
jersey yet? Are you waiting to see how it plays out?
Or where are you staying? They come on, man, I
have not. It's funny because that you bring that up.
You know, I have a group of neighbors and bluddies.
Speaker 19 (01:48:59):
There's like eight of us on a text chain that
all lived within like a block or two of each other.
Speaker 4 (01:49:05):
And we're all Browns fans.
Speaker 19 (01:49:06):
So we're like the little Browns backers club, right, and
and so we have a text chain, and obviously during
the draft we're all texting each other, and the Browns
draft doing Gabriel, and it's like, okay, well there's the decision, right,
they're gonna go doing Gabriel, And and obviously Chador is
not coming.
Speaker 4 (01:49:24):
And between the time that they took doing Gabriel and
then then he took Shador. Uh, one of the guys
on there is a good friend.
Speaker 19 (01:49:30):
He said, Tommy, if if they draft Shador Sanders, I'm
buying you a jersey, okay, whatever, like you know it's
it's you're like, that's a pretty safe bet at that point,
and then they drafted.
Speaker 4 (01:49:43):
I don't know if he I don't know. I don't
know if he's coming through with it. I mean, I
look good in at twelve. I'm glad he's twelve. Not
too But we'll see.
Speaker 19 (01:49:52):
Who knows that that quarterback room could be an entire
reality show in its own through training camp.
Speaker 4 (01:49:59):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (01:50:00):
We'll see, Well, FC get back to business, Calves need
to get back to business, and we'll go from there.
Speaker 4 (01:50:07):
A week from today.
Speaker 2 (01:50:08):
Tom always is it is. I appreciate your time as always.
Have a great call tomorrow night and get three.
Speaker 4 (01:50:15):
We appreciate you, absolutely look forward to it. Thanks fell
There he is.
Speaker 2 (01:50:19):
That's Tom going to the voice of FC Cincinnati. This
is Cincy three sixty plenty more still to go our
three thanks to Penn Station on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station. Now welcome back. Since he three to sixty,
moving along hour number three thanks to Penn Station on
ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's Sports station.
Speaker 4 (01:50:36):
Let's do this.
Speaker 2 (01:50:37):
Each week we get a chance to talk to our
good friends from Novacare the University of Cincinnati. This week
we get a first timer. Victoria Heasley is at the
University of Cincinnati and she can actually be found on
the sidelines during football season, but also has some really
really cool stuff going on outside of just being an
(01:50:59):
attending physician you see in the physical medicine and rehabilitation
at sports medicine departments. She's also really got some awesome
stuff going on from the adaptive sports side of things
as well, and she's nice enough to join us for
a couple of minutes today. Victoria, how are you doing.
Speaker 8 (01:51:14):
I'm doing great.
Speaker 17 (01:51:14):
Thanks for having me.
Speaker 2 (01:51:16):
I don't think we've had a chance yet in these
segments to talk about the adaptive sports community and the
growing sports population within that. For those that don't know,
what is the adaptive sports side of things and how
prevalent is that now in Cincinnati.
Speaker 17 (01:51:36):
Well, luckily, over the last several years, the adaptive sports
world here in our hometown is getting much bigger and
I'm so happy to be a part of it. And
one of the big reasons I think we've been growing
a lot is because of the nonprofit The Bridge Adaptive
Sports and Recreation. So I'm actually one of the co
founders and current president of the Bridge, And we really
(01:51:57):
have brought a lot of people together in a lot
of groups, getting a lot of teams together to spread
awareness and really just increase the number of opportunities for
people who want to participate in any type of sport.
You know, we don't like to be told no, no
one does, and so we really just came together because
we wanted to give people in our town here the
ability to try any sport or any recreation, regardless of
(01:52:20):
what their abilities are, regardless of what type of equipment
they needed, and wanted to make it possible for them.
Speaker 2 (01:52:26):
That's the big thing, eliminating the barriers that sometimes get
labeled with the condition that maybe someone is dealing with.
But you mentioned from an equipment standpoint, in knocking down
those barriers, how have you guys been able to go
about doing that in the length of time that the
bridge has been up and running.
Speaker 9 (01:52:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 17 (01:52:47):
So, you know, if anyone has seen it after sports
or maybe watched the Paralympics, you'll notice that a lot
of the athletes need really specialized equipment and as you
would imagine, that's really expensive and it's a huge barrier
and So one of the ways the Bridge wanted to
step in and kind of solve that problem is we
have a huge bank of equipment and we loan that
(01:53:08):
out to people, and we really just want people to
get out and try the sport and see if they
like it. And we wanted to do that for free
for anyone to see if they like it. And then
once they kind of identify which sport maybe they love
or they want to compete in or really get spend
a lot of the time, and then we can kind
of help them get maybe something more customizable piece of
equipment for them. But really just wanting to give all
(01:53:31):
of that equipment out, you know, even if it's if
we're modifying it on the go or making it work
for you, it's it's at least trying to get rid
of that barrier.
Speaker 2 (01:53:40):
What does that process look like for an athlete who
who may be going through obviously a difficult time or
wanting to learn more and figure out, Okay, what is
best for me which sport am I able to pick up?
What does that process look like from the first time
you're meeting these athletes and getting them with the right
equipment and getting them into the right sport.
Speaker 17 (01:54:01):
Yeah, honestly, a lot of it is awareness about the bridge,
whether you know, we're telling them when we're meeting them
in the clinic or in the hospital or you know,
we're shameless and even if we see someone out in
you know, the grocery store. We just try to spread
the news about the bridge. And then, for example, this
summer through the huge calendar events all summer long, and
some of our events are called try it Days, which
(01:54:23):
is exactly what it is. Just you come out, you
try it, and maybe you try, for example, adaptive mountain
biking and you love it. Maybe you try and like,
if not for me, that's fine, let's try adaptive golf.
So the next weekend, and you know, just coming and
just being open to trying something, and it's always wonderful
to see the smiles. And then when people finally find
(01:54:44):
you know, that sport or that activity that they're like, yep,
this is for me, I want to keep doing this,
and then we really help them kind of succeed from
that standpoint too.
Speaker 2 (01:54:52):
It's incredible from a from a sports standpoint, just how
many programs and events that you guys have going on.
It's really limited to nothing. There is something that everyone
can at least give an opportunity to try. For you mentioned,
all of this doesn't come for free. There's a lot
of work that goes into this. From a volunteer standpoint,
(01:55:13):
from a donation standpoint, how how are listeners able to
get more understanding into the bridge and maybe even help
from me either a volunteer and again a donation standpoint
as well.
Speaker 9 (01:55:27):
Yes, thank you.
Speaker 17 (01:55:29):
I mean a lot of information is at our website,
the Bridge adaptive dot org or on our social media.
You know. I think one thing is, you know, if
anyone listening wants to come and just at least see
one of our events or volunteers, you know, we need
people from all backgrounds, from all expertises.
Speaker 9 (01:55:47):
You know, even if you just don't.
Speaker 17 (01:55:48):
Mind coming and helping us move boxes right or move
equipment or help sign people in along or even if
you want to, like you know, ride your bike along
one of our athletes. Any expertise is great. From a
volunteer standpoint, and just getting out there and meeting the
athletes and meeting and it's really hard. It would kind
of stuck people in. From that standpoint, I feel like
once you see it, you just want to keep coming
(01:56:09):
back for more, and like, oh, I don't know how
we are nonprofit. So yeah, we're a nonprofit as you
would imagine. So we're always fundraising and looking for sponsorships
and donations. So again, any all of our resources are
on the website, So pleading any help is wonderful.
Speaker 2 (01:56:27):
Uh from a UC standpoint, I know, I I don't
think it was as prevalent when I was going to
school at u See, but I know that the adaptive community,
even on campus, has has continued to grow. What are
what are some of the adaptive sports that are currently
happening on campus?
Speaker 3 (01:56:45):
Oh?
Speaker 17 (01:56:46):
Yes, this was this last year. I'm so excited to
announce and I was one of the founders. So because
of all this community at work that we have here
at the Bridge, Cincinnati was the next university ready. So
you See now has the next adaptive college sports program.
So there's less than twenty universities in the country actually
that offer college level adaptive sports and so I'm so
(01:57:08):
happy to say you See is one of them now.
And so we have around six athletes this year, and
we have individualized sports. We have wheelchair tennants and then
track and field, and so our athletes have already been
able to compete out there in the country wearing the
bear Cats and which has been amazing. And we're you know,
continue to group recruit athletes. We already have some recruits
(01:57:31):
fits coming fall, and we'll continue to expand and hopefully
get wheelchair basketball in the future too.
Speaker 2 (01:57:38):
This is this is absolutely awesome. So many good things
happening right here in our own community. One more time
for those listening for the Bridge, the easiest way to
just to get to the website and kind of go
from there that address.
Speaker 17 (01:57:50):
Again, the Bridge adaptive dot org.
Speaker 2 (01:57:55):
Awesome awesome stuff. You guys are doing amazing things, and
urge everyone listening to at least check out the Bridge
adaptive dot org and learn more and volunteer, find a
way to be a part of this and continue to
help this grow. Victoria, thank you so much for your time.
I know you're busy. It is certainly appreciated and we'll
see on the sidelines is coming fall.
Speaker 17 (01:58:18):
Yes, I will if anyone give a shout and give away.

Hour three Cincy three sixty Thanks to Penn Station on
ESPN fifteen thirty. Welcome back. It is since e three
sixty hour three thanks to Penn Station. Thank you for
listening on ESPN fifty ten thirty Cincinnati Sports Station or
via the iHeartRadio app. We've been all over the map today.
We've talked everything there is from a sports standpoint. How
about the fact that we are entering into Mother's Day
(01:59:10):
weekend for all the moms out there, the significant others,
this is an awesome week and a big weekend. And
our friends at Oakley Greens where we were able to
broadcast during March Madness, it's an awesome spot. Oakley Greens
has got some really cool stuff coming up this weekend
and in the near future as well. So joining us
right now here for a few minutes is Tory Meeker,
(01:59:32):
the director of Events for Oakley Greens, and we'll talk
a little bit more about the weekend.
Speaker 3 (01:59:36):
Tory, how are you and well, how are you doing, Tony?
Speaker 2 (01:59:40):
I'm great, I'm great. Look before I get into the
weekend itself, you guys have been doing a mini You
did a Mini Masters. You guys are doing different golf
events throughout the year that kind of coincide with the majors.
We are coming off of the Mini Masters that you
guys put together. From a golf standpoint, what do you
(02:00:03):
guys have coming up next?
Speaker 34 (02:00:05):
Yeah, we're really excited. The next mini mini major is
called the Cincinnati Cup. It's going to be on May seventeenth,
on the Saturday, and basically it's just we're taking advantage of,
you know, the big golf tournaments on TV and trying
to do a more accessible version for the people here
in Cincinnati on our two eighteen.
Speaker 17 (02:00:25):
Hole mini golf courses.
Speaker 34 (02:00:27):
So the Cincinnati Cup, basically you just show up on
Saturday and we're partnering with the Big Brothers Big Sisters
of Cincinnati, So our goal is to raise a bunch
of money for them. And the way the tournament's going
to work is when you come play mini golf, hopefully
on a gorgeous day, it's just next your five dollars
and we're matching that as well, and so basically ten
(02:00:48):
dollars from every mini golf we'll be going straight to
Big Brothers Big Sisters And when you're done with your round,
you turn in your scorecard and you get a chance
to win some really cool prizes.
Speaker 2 (02:00:57):
I would say, really cool prizes. Awesome to bet if
it Big Brothers and Big Sisters here in Cincinnati. For
those that aren't aware outside of what you guys have
obviously with the mini golf, how do you describe Oakley
Greens to someone that maybe hasn't been there before.
Speaker 34 (02:01:15):
Well, man, I think it's just an awesome place to
hang out with friends and family. There's a ton of
outdoor space, so when it's a gorgeous day, there's nowhere
I'd rather be than sitting on a patio watching one
of our giant TV's playing one of our local sports teams.
But I think also We have a lot of indoor space.
You've got a great restaurant in Hangry Omar's, and we
(02:01:35):
have some reservable party spaces, so there's just something for everyone.
There's two playgrounds, you know, there's a lot of shaded areas,
and yeah, I just think it's a really chill place
to hang out with your friends.
Speaker 2 (02:01:48):
You mentioned bringing friends, you mentioned bringing family. That's the
idea when you talk about this weekend with Mother's Day
coming up on Sunday, I know you guys have the
Mother's Day Market happening. Tell me a little bit more
about what's going on on Sunday.
Speaker 34 (02:02:03):
Yeah, it's gonna be really fun. We actually are partnering
with a local farm and bringing in too many Highland cows.
Speaker 17 (02:02:10):
I know that me and all my girlfriends are in
fast for them.
Speaker 34 (02:02:12):
They're so cute. But yeah, you get to meet them
and take pictures with them, and then we've got several
local vendors that are going to be there set up
selling their crafts and their wares, so they have a
little shopping for mom. You get to pet a cow,
and then the family can play mini golf and hang
out and get some suod does not.
Speaker 2 (02:02:29):
Get any better than that. Good weather finally forecasted for
a weekend as well. I know for you guys, this
is kind of the start of the season. I know
you mentioned the Cincinnati Cup and the Mini Majors. Tell
me a little bit more. You guys got the Summer
Music series coming up as well.
Speaker 34 (02:02:47):
Yeah, we're really excited. When we opened last year, we
weren't able to get the music situation set up. But
this year we have a full schedule of music. We're
gonna be running live music every Friday starting May thirtieth,
and we've got a great variety of life local bands
and that will run till the end of August, leading
right up into the Bengal season.
Speaker 8 (02:03:05):
UH.
Speaker 2 (02:03:06):
Other other major events, there's a schedule release. I know
you guys are getting together to to do it up
big for the the NFL schedule release, which is now
turned into this big event that's gonna be Wednesday night
at Oakley Greens.
Speaker 17 (02:03:18):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (02:03:18):
From a from an event standpoint, because there's so much
that you guys are constantly doing and constantly putting together,
and I've had an awesome chance to be there at
these events and and uh and work them on my
side as well. What what's the easiest way to to
kind of keep up with the calendar that you guys
have going on, so everyone can stay up to date
with so many different awesome events you guys are doing.
Speaker 34 (02:03:41):
Yeah, I haven't heard time keeping up with them few sometimes,
but they're all on our website and then you try
to feature each of them on our Instagram, which is
just at Oakley Greens. That's the best way to see
what we're doing that week. But everything is always on
our calendar online.
Speaker 2 (02:03:55):
This is uh, it's it's it's a it's a unique
place because you guys are able just on a daily
basis the great food, great drinks, a great place to
hang out, you could take the kids, you could play
mini golf. There's so much to do. Are you trying
once or twice per month to focus on bigger events
based on what the schedule is able to allow. Is
that the idea going forward into the warmer months here?
Speaker 34 (02:04:20):
Absolutely? I mean I think on the weekends it's already
pretty busy, so we try not to do too much
stuff on the weekends, but we do our weekly programming,
which is we do Fairway Feud. It's a family feud
style trivia which I really like because it doesn't focus
on you don't have to be like a.
Speaker 17 (02:04:36):
Super smart person who win.
Speaker 34 (02:04:38):
It's more about general knowledge. So I actually stand a
chance of that one. And so we do that every
week and then on the weekends we'll try to throw
in one or two big events a months. Yeah, just sports,
team golf themed, something for the family.
Speaker 2 (02:04:55):
It's awesome. I cannot recommend getting out to Oakleay Greens
and no bring the family, especially this weekend. The details.
One more time for everything going on Sunday from when
you guys get underway, how long does it run through?
One more time on the Mother's Day Market.
Speaker 34 (02:05:11):
Sure, the vendors will be there setup from ten to four.
We open at ten am in the morning, the cows
will be there from twelve until three, and the staff
will be there ready to work, ready to make you
all some great drinks and some great food.
Speaker 2 (02:05:24):
Tory, this is awesome. Can urge people enough to go
out and check everything out. Thank you for your time.
Look forward to catching up again soon with everything going
on with Oakley Greens.
Speaker 34 (02:05:34):
I agree, Thanks so much, Tonny.
Speaker 2 (02:05:35):
Awesome that is Tory Meeker with Oakley Greens. This is
Sincy three sixty. Thanks for listening. More to come on
ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 1 (02:05:44):
Sixty continues on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. It's
time for Cincy three sixty quick hits on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 2 (02:05:55):
Yeah it is, We're back. Welcome back, Cincy three sixty,
the last that we have here on a Friday afternoon
on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Slept Station. I see him
right outside the door. He's right outside the door, Austin.
But he's he's talking to something.
Speaker 4 (02:06:09):
Yeah, there he is.
Speaker 2 (02:06:10):
He's coming in now. Big things happen here on a Friday.
It's it's tough to get from one end of the
building to the other without being stopped. And you know,
maybe well maybe hassled a little bit. Well, while we
give Mo a moment to collect himself. Final results from
Arivifitnessystems dot com poll. Question and coach PJ. Street, how
many games will the Reds win in Houston? Fifty four
(02:06:31):
percent say?
Speaker 4 (02:06:33):
One game?
Speaker 2 (02:06:34):
Oh okay, well there it is. Uh with that most
here now there one really one win. Chase Petty's back
with the team, Will Benson's back with the team. Got
some good news on Hunter Green when you saw him
leave the game and the extent of the injury. Uh
to hear maybe just one or two starts missed. That's
a positive.
Speaker 4 (02:06:55):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (02:06:55):
And Reese Hines looked good last night, as did Jose Travino.
Outside of that, any positives were missing, Mo, Well.
Speaker 10 (02:06:59):
He looked at the plate.
Speaker 4 (02:07:00):
Look at the plate.
Speaker 10 (02:07:01):
You looked like me playing right field.
Speaker 2 (02:07:02):
Well, anyone on this field, anyone fielding for this team.
Speaker 10 (02:07:04):
Here's the positive. I'm reading this quote from Terry Francona
oh after the game. He said, quote, we still competed
like crazy, which we love.
Speaker 4 (02:07:13):
Okay.
Speaker 10 (02:07:14):
So what I'm gonna lobby for is for the scoreboards
and I in Houston to not be turned on. Just
just measure a win and loss by how hard they fight.
We're not measuring wins and losses. They competed like crazy,
which they love. Okay, Yeah, so why why keep score?
In fact, I'm not even gonna look at the standings anymore. Fair,
(02:07:35):
I'm not gonna look at scoreboards, not going to pay
attention to the other teams as long as they're competing
like crazy.
Speaker 4 (02:07:42):
Yeah, which is crazy.
Speaker 9 (02:07:44):
Good?
Speaker 2 (02:07:45):
You know, because some of the adbats I saw last
night in situational opportunities, I didn't see much competing, just
put the ball in play. I've never seen a worst
game of situational hitting fifth inning, sixth inning, seventh inning,
tenth inning, eleventh inning, awful the ball and play well.
Speaker 10 (02:08:02):
Or if you're gonna bunt, and you know I hate
bunts away, So I do want to have this conversation
today about Blake Dunn in particular, who bunted with a
guy on second base and nobody else. But if you're
going to do that, I'm anti bunt. I'm really anti
bunt in that situation. But if you're going to bunt,
(02:08:24):
and Terry frank ConA after the game said, on top
of quote, we still competed like crazy, which we love.
He said, like, yeah, he was supposed to bunt the
ball to third base, Well did anybody tell him? Because
he's got Matt Olson like in his lap and he
bunts it right to him.
Speaker 2 (02:08:39):
One of the craziest things I've ever seen. Matt Olsen
was as close as you could possibly get.
Speaker 10 (02:08:43):
What are we doing?
Speaker 4 (02:08:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:08:45):
Oh so why did the run or run? He saw Olson?
Great question, like what can you be as bad as
they are at extras.
Speaker 10 (02:08:53):
Well, I mean, there's something kind of quirky about it,
but like, they've played five innings and extra innings year,
four extra innings games before last night. The first three
would decided in the tenth last night in the eleventh.
That means five times they have come to the plate
with a guy in scoring position and nobody out. I
don't know what the odds are. I need some sort
(02:09:14):
of mathematical whiz to tell me what the odds are.
Like if you played a game right, first inning, get
a guy on second base, nobody out, second inning, guy
on second base, nobody out, first five innings, it would
be staggering to not score. Yeah, and it's not apples
to apples, but still, that's that's one of the I
would have to imagine that in the magic Runner era,
(02:09:37):
which started the COVID year in twenty and twenty. The
magic Runner is, of course stupid, But in the magic
Runner era, has any team played five consecutive extra innings
where they have started with a guy on second base?
And the answer is probably yes, because I'm sure there's
been a game that's gone to the fifteenth inning where
nobody has scored, but maybe not. I don't know, I
just it's really hard to do.
Speaker 2 (02:09:58):
It's hard. And then you watch tenth and you watch
Gavin Lux do what you're supposed to do. Yeah, down
in the count, make contact right side, Ellie goes to third.
Here comes Spencer Steer and he done put the ball
in play. You have bases loaded one out earlier in
the game with your two and three hole hitters. Yeah,
neither put the ball in play. And yet you can
make an argument that the defense and the situ situational
(02:10:19):
awareness for the defense of this team has been just
as bad.
Speaker 10 (02:10:22):
Yes, I mean, look, they're an offensively limited club. We
all acknowledged that coming into the season, but it was
they're going to clean up the little stuff. We've spent
more time this week talking about the little stuff and
how it's cost him games, whether it's bunting to the
right side of the field, whether it's putting the ball
in play when it should be put in play, or
making the right play on defense, Like, when are we
(02:10:45):
gonna stop talking about those things? And this is gonna
sound like, man, I'm down on Terry Francona. But the
reason they flipped managers to a large degree was I
read the quotes from Nick Krawl the day they fired
David Bell earlier today, and it was all about, like
we saw some of the same tough that didn't get corrected.
We've got to clean up, We've got to play cleaner baseball.
Speaker 2 (02:11:04):
They're not.
Speaker 10 (02:11:05):
When's that going to change? I would ask that, no
matter who the manager is, when's that going to change?
Because until it does, a team that is offensively limited
and has guys on the injured list is not going
to go very far.
Speaker 2 (02:11:17):
Charlie Goltzmith joined us today and said he's got it
as eleven games this year that he counts that they've
beat themselves. Wow, that's a lot over the course of
thirty nine, like the half half.
Speaker 10 (02:11:27):
Of a season.
Speaker 2 (02:11:28):
It's incredible, not even the quarter of the way through.
Speaker 10 (02:11:32):
Staggering.
Speaker 2 (02:11:33):
What are you got coming up from three to six?
Speaker 10 (02:11:35):
So we're going to talk about how they competed last.
Speaker 2 (02:11:38):
Night, scoreboards off.
Speaker 10 (02:11:40):
Yeah, I like this, and aren't we all proud of
them for competing playing hard. I I don't know if
there's some sort of banner maybe we can hang in
here in the studio. They competed like crazy, which they love. Yeah,
I'm just going to express frustration at this series in Atlanta,
which felt like it lasted about twenty six games.
Speaker 4 (02:12:01):
Differential.
Speaker 10 (02:12:02):
Uh, we're doing this every year. It's yeah, run differential
for a time. Please stop banced analytics. Say the numbers
aren't as bad.
Speaker 2 (02:12:15):
As you think.
Speaker 10 (02:12:16):
The win loss record is one more loss than wine.
I get a look, man, I love analytics. Analytics are information.
I don't know anybody who doesn't like information. But you
get to a point of overload when you're constantly being
told that what you're watching is not what you think
because the underlying You know why they're underlying analytics because
(02:12:37):
they mostly don't matter. You know what's overlying eighteen and nineteen, correct,
you know what's overlying thirty years without advancing in the postseason.
Stop preaching to me about the well the underlying analytics.
I'm gonna start doing that in my life. Well, honey, yeah,
the numbers are my my underlying intentions.
Speaker 3 (02:12:56):
This weekend.
Speaker 10 (02:12:58):
Day, the the underlying idea for Mother's Day was to
give you a ticket to Tahiti. But instead here's this
water jug the under the underlying metrics. Who cares correct
well the under Whenever I hear well the underlying metrics,
I start to glaze over like I do when people
(02:13:19):
start talking about Bill Belichick's girlfriend, which I'm going to
talk about today.
Speaker 2 (02:13:23):
Oh okay, that's good. You see Louisville for it. I
want these two teams to play every year, every year.
Heritage Bank and Freedom Hall weird, but.
Speaker 10 (02:13:35):
Okay, uh yeah, man, you know you want. I want
as many geographic rivalries as possible. You See and Louisville
have a great athletic history with each other. I wish
they would play every single year.
Speaker 2 (02:13:48):
I like this a lot more surprised at seeing that happen,
or the numbers of the Sean Miller contract six years,
thirty two million guaranteed, doubling what Rodney.
Speaker 4 (02:13:59):
Terry was.
Speaker 10 (02:14:02):
I guess I don't know.
Speaker 2 (02:14:03):
Yeah, I mean be more surprised by that number, or
the latest reports of Bill Belichick's girlfriend.
Speaker 10 (02:14:09):
The Belichick girlfriend stuff is not surprising at all to me.
Here's the thing about the Sean Miller contract. I don't know.
I don't know what a high salary in college sports
is anymore true.
Speaker 2 (02:14:20):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (02:14:21):
Yeah, like, is that a bargain?
Speaker 10 (02:14:23):
And I had a college basketball guy on two weeks ago,
Evan Miakawa, and I feel the same way about players, right,
Like in the NBA and in the NFL and in
Major League Baseball. I think we have a good idea
of like what makes sense for every player. Hey, this
guy's a great value because of what he makes, or
this guy's overpaid. I don't know how to do that
in college basketball, and I'm not even sure I know
(02:14:44):
how to do that with coaches anymore. Yeah, Like, I
don't know if is it six years thirty two mill
or five years six years? I don't know if that's
a lot, right, I don't know if that's about market.
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (02:14:54):
Just guaranteed in there. I'm good with it all. I
wonder what the buyout is. Buyout numbers is something we've
had to talk too much about lastly. To go back
on the Reds real quick, they competed last Austin brought
this up. I know the average is okay. Ellie has
now gone almost seventy at bats without a home run.
The power numbers are down, the swing speed is down.
What are the underlying metrics, Bostin, what are the underlying
(02:15:15):
metrics of Ellie?
Speaker 5 (02:15:16):
H speed is down? No, power speed is down. Bat
speed is up, but the hard hitting are you worried
about Elis is not a.
Speaker 2 (02:15:26):
Little bit because it's you know, the video game, and
he's the superstar and he's got to carry the franchise,
and you know there are other superstars out there that
can't do that. But it does take time.
Speaker 10 (02:15:36):
I think a lot of us have, myself included, probably
accelerated the timeline for Ellie more than we should have.
Speaker 2 (02:15:46):
There's a lot of pressure on them.
Speaker 10 (02:15:47):
But I think it's fair to wonder, like, at what
level does he have to produce for everybody to go
he's terrific? Yeah, you know, I mean not many guys
enter the league with credible evaluators saying this guy's a
chance to be the best in the sport. Well, you
know what, the odds of that happening are not good.
(02:16:07):
They work against him because there's a lot of guys
playing the sport. So like the way he's producing now,
if these numbers, if you took what his numbers are
now and translate them to the next three or four years,
I think we're going to be pretty disappointed. But is
that his fault of ours?
Speaker 2 (02:16:22):
Good point? I don't know those types of questions. But
the thing is this team, I think is built for
him to like have taken that leap. That's the thing,
and it hasn't feels like they're built that they need
him to be that guy. Yeah, yeah, and he's not.
Those questions and more are going to be answered underlying
metrics this afternoon.
Speaker 10 (02:16:38):
If I get pulled over the officer, the underlying.
Speaker 2 (02:16:40):
Metrics acceleration speed was not nearly what you have me.
Clocks got, We're done. Mo's next. Thanks, have a great
show you too, well.
Speaker 10 (02:16:50):
Have a good weekend.
Speaker 2 (02:16:51):
We used to do a show on Saturdays, but we
don't even I've heard that, so yeah, no idea what
we're talking about? Your ready, Jeff no oh senty three
sixty on ESPN.
Speaker 4 (02:17:03):
Thanks for listening.
Speaker 2 (02:17:04):
I have a great weekend and enjoy Mother's Dad everyone
out there. Mowagger's Next on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 16 (02:17:11):
So u c Ky Cincinnati, make us the number one
preset on your car radio and on the free new
and improved iHeartRadio ad Free never sounded so good, ESPN

Speaker 3 (02:17:22):
This summer,
