So I'm gonna I'm gonna say something that I think
you would agree with if the Bengals record was the
opposite of what it is right now. In just a second, Moegar,
(00:20):
that's me ESPN fifteen thirty. That's the radio station you're
listening to. Thank you, thanks for doing that much. Appreciate it.
Could you tell others that'd be swell uh? By the way,
it's decision Day Saturday in Major League Soccer FC Cincinnati
plays Montreal, who stinks they're trying to wrap up the
two seed in the Eastern Conference. Raws Smith is going
(00:41):
to be on the call. MLS Season Pass analyst is
gonna join us in just about twenty minutes or so,
plus Lee Starling. We're taking tomorrow's show and we're making
it today, so you're gonna hear a lot of stuff
you typically here on Thursdays. Thursday's is our it's our
biggest day when it comes to guests. We have a
lot of guests today, including our guy Sterling, including our
guye Chad Brendel. We're gonna do some basketball because you see,
(01:05):
as Jalen Haynes is going to be out for a while.
They've got an exhibition game on Friday against Michigan, and
college basketball is almost here. In fact, we got to
get on the books the Rick and Chad college basketball
preview Spectacular. Chad's going to join us at about forty
minutes show preview. It's a brief one. Is on Twitter
at moeger thanks to our friends and yours at share
(01:29):
FAC's credit Union loaded today, absolutely loaded. We're getting set
for Bengals Steelers. Okay, I am more than okay with
what the Bengals are doing with Logan Wilson, and you
should be as well. Now here's what happens. The Bengals
have lost four consecutive games. Nobody's happy, nobody should be happy.
(01:50):
Everybody's pissed at the coaching staff. Everybody's pissed at the coach.
Everybody's upset at Duke Tobin. Everybody is mad at the
Bengals and should be right. They deserve our anger, despite
the fact that they played well offensively in the second
half against Green Bay. So I understand that, But just
take for a second, how Logan Wilson has played this season. Okay,
(02:14):
he's been all right. It's been okay. If this team
was four and two getting the same exact Logan Wilson,
the same exact play from Logan Wilson, they've gotten at
four and two and decided we're gonna bench him basically
and play Barrett Carter Moore. I think that would be
(02:35):
received different than it might be right now. I think
you should be okay with this. I am okay with this. Look. Man,
nothing against Logan Wilson. This dude's meant a lot to
the franchise. He's had some very good seasons. Right. This
guy was a part of the solution in twenty twenty one.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
We all like.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
Logan Wilson, good draft pick, good player. How many plays
have you seen him make this year? Five point three, seven, four, nine,
fifteen thirty. We don't have a lot of room for
callers today, but how many plays have you watched Logan
Wilson make this year? When we've done this exercise, and
we've done it repeatedly over the last couple of weeks,
(03:14):
who you moving forward with?
Speaker 3 (03:16):
Like?
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Who do you really want to be on the team
next year? I don't recall anybody cutting through the crowd
to go hang on Logan Wilson. I'm not doing this
to pick on Logan Wilson. We like Logan Wilson, but
what they're doing at linebacker in particular feels kind of
Unbengal like. And you know what, I'm here for anything
(03:38):
that's un Bengal like. What is Bengal like? Logan Wilson's
been here and you know, it's continuity, and it's it's familiarity,
and so, oh man, this defense stinks. People will go
overboard to tell you how. You know, Oh hell, the
(03:58):
Packers don't only ten points in that first half? Yeah cool,
you watched second half. Do you look at where they
are statistically? Did you see what happened when the game
was hanging in the balance against Detroit they couldn't get
a stop. Did you see how they played at the
end of the first half against Denver when the offense
was spinning against tires and the only hope of sting
in the game was getting a stop. Bay didn't. This
(04:19):
defense stinks. That's not just Logan Wilson's fault. It's not
mainly Logan Wilson's fault. But they're looking for solutions. Good
for them for going. All right, let's do something that
for us is kind of outside the box. We're gonna
put more on the rookie. We drafted this guy, we
(04:41):
took him for a reason. Let's go. It may not work,
by the way, against Green Bay it didn't. It may
it may fail spectacularly. But this is a league where
there's such a premium on rookies and draft picks making
an instant impact. We talked about this draft class back
in April. This is a class where they need some
(05:04):
dudes who can make an instant impact. Instant means right away,
right away means year one. Barrett Carter can't make an
impact if he's not playing the dude who was playing.
Logan Wilson is a terrific guy, by the way, an
awesome teammate. He has proven that with how he has
talked about and how he apparently has handled his benching
(05:25):
behind the scenes. Great awesome. I'm looking for impact. I
ain't getting it from Logan Wilson. Might I get it
from Barrett Carter. I'd rather not wait till December fifteenth
to find out. This is not about what Logan Wilson
has done or what he has meant, this is about
(05:45):
trying to get this season turned around and trying to
come up with solutions for a bad defense. Look, because
of what they didn't do this offseason, it's not like
they can try somebody else at safety. They are gonna
lean more on DJ Turner and Jax Hill. And should
DJ Turner play great against Green Bay, we'll see, We'll
see if that's a one off, we'll see if that's
(06:05):
the start of something big. But we'll see. But like
they're trying to come up with answers, man, and they're
trying to come up with answers within the framework of
what they have. What they have, unfortunately aren't enough better
dbs than the ones who have played already. What they have,
it doesn't have DJ Reider, He's not there anymore. Okay,
(06:25):
we drafted two linebackers. Let's put the defense on their
shoulders and see if they can sink or swim. By
the way, there's gonna be learning curves, there's gonna be challenges.
Barrett Carter certainly went through his fair share the other day.
I have no idea. I have no idea. Logan Wilson's
twenty nine years old. He's been in this league for
a while. There's a very good chance his best years
are behind him. And by the way, his best years,
(06:46):
it's not like we were talking about a perennial All
Pro player. So, all right, within the framework of what
we have, if we can't go back in time and
spend the off season ushering, ushering in a whole bunch
of different defensive players, let's go with what we got.
The typical Bengal way of doing things to me would be, well,
(07:07):
you know, Logan's been here, and you know he's got
a relationship with Al Golden, he knows every call, he's
got the green sticker on his helmet. You know, we
value the known more than the unknown. I am for
anything that's not the way the Bengals typically do things.
So let's go by the way. Luenerumo Luenarumo for all
(07:30):
of his accomplishments in Cincinnati. As for as much as
you might think he got scapegoaded last year, and I
think there's something to that, And as much as you
might think he was set up for failure last year,
and I definitely think there was something to that. One
of the criticisms of him was the dude just doesn't
want to play the younger guys. Well, if I'm going
to replace Lou Henerumo, I'm gonna do so hiring a
(07:50):
guy that might be a little bit more willing to
do things that Lu didn't want to do. Play the
younger guys. If Logan Wilson's play had jumped off the
page or jumped off the tape, if he was having
a great year, by the way, for what it's worth,
his pro football focus great as average, It's like fifty
six point seven something in that range. I should have
jotted that down. There was no real need to. I
(08:13):
have no remote idea of this is gonna work. But
at least they're trying to find something. At least they're
trying to find solutions. There's something about, you know, desperation
maybe here and again, it's not unlike batting Santiago Espinal second, Like,
all right, well, if Matt McLean's not gonna work out
(08:33):
hitting second, I'll try this dude. That might highlight the
fact that there's nobody else you would really want batting second.
Somebody has to, so we'll try Santiago Espinal. I think
Barrett Carter has a chance to be better at his
job than Santiago Espinal is at his but all right,
so Logan Wilson said. The explanation he got was that
(08:55):
they wanted to give the defense a spark. Maybe it's
simply that, maybe it's I don't know, man, Logan, you've
met a lot to this team. We're not really seeing
the sort of play that we were hoping to get
from you. We need to do better. The only way
we're going to do better at this point is by
(09:15):
swapping out some known quantities for some unknown quantities and
seeing if they're better. And we're not gonna wait until
the season has spiraled out of control. This isn't about
you know, don't feel sorry for Logan Wilson. Sure you
feel bad for the guy sucks to be benched, And again, man,
credit to that guy for how he has handled the
benching and his support of Barrett Carter. It's exactly what
(09:37):
you would expect if you have followed that guy's career.
But you know, I've been thinking about this a lot
since last night. I think if you root for this team,
watch this team, care about this team, know anything about
how this team typically operates, I think you should be
okay with this at the very least and at least
(09:58):
mildly intrigued as to how it's gonna work out tomorrow night.
We will see it may bottom out. Barrett Carter may
not be very good. Okay, then what right? The defense
top to bottom hasn't been good as is. It's not
like Logan Wilson was saving this defense from completely crap
in the bed, like all right, let's go. They're trying
(10:20):
something good for them. At moegor on Twitter, we are
jammed with guests today, so I will admit to you
we don't have a ton of room for phone calls
this afternoon, so I'm being transparent. You are more than
welcome to try, and if we have a gap, we'll
take one or two. But I have decided I don't
want to be one of those hosts who says, hey
(10:41):
call the show and then there's no room to take
people who have been waiting. Not the kind of human
being I am. Sixteen minutes after three o'clock at moegor
on Twitter that's always open thanks to Delta Dental. Delta
Dental is building healthy, smart, vibrant communities for all good.
At Delta dentaloh dot com, we are low between now
and uh six o'clock tonight. By the way, Bengals game
(11:03):
plans six to eight as soon as we're done here
on ESPN fifteen thirty. Also, can we talk about a
guy who used to be here that many want to
be here again? That coming up next on ESPN fifteen
thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Well, that's right, we're playing the
Sweetest Day sexy time music because tomorrow Sweetest Day is Saturday. Yes, Taren,
(11:26):
do you like Sweetest Day more? Or Valentine's Day more?
Speaker 4 (11:29):
Valentine's State hear more.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
Of Valentine's Day?
Speaker 2 (11:32):
Gay?
Speaker 1 (11:32):
Ninety five point eight percent in our poll, which we
asked about twenty four hours ago, so there's still some
time left. Ninety five point eight percent say no, they
don't celebrate Sweetest Day. Taron is ready to go. However,
yesterday Paul Danner Junior was on the show and he
was terrific talking about He wrote a really good piece
on on kind of how they got Joe Flacco ready
(11:52):
to go to play on Sunday. And let's be honest,
Joe wasn't awesome in the first half. He was fine
in the second half, which is why there's this just
jolts of optimism permeating through the franchise. Paul was great yesterday,
so was our guy Sean sayat Stats and Scheme newsletter.
We talked Bengals, Steelers, AFC North and so much more.
If you missed those conversations, what the hell were you doing?
(12:14):
The good news is we record everything and we podcast it. Right,
that's the term podcast. You may have heard of these podcasts.
They're like radio shows, but recorded or in some cases
they are recordings of radio shows. You can listen to
it on the iHeartRadio app. You can also listen to
it on my page at ESPN fifteen thirty dot com.
Our friends at Long Neck Sports Girl sponsor sponsor our podcast.
(12:38):
See if I did a podcast, we would just edit
that out, that little verbal faux Paul there, We would
just take it do over. They sponsored the podcast of
this show long next tonight. Now you're gonna have a
tough decision to make here, Okay, because this is dueling
radio shows. You got Bengals game Plan from six to
eight on this station. But because tomorrow is night football,
(13:01):
you've got Lance and Rocky on the Roundtable show at
Longnecks in Richwood. And I will tell you this. They
are gonna be given away a pair of tickets to
tomorrow's game. Now, they're gonna give them away in the
eight o'clock hour. You must be present to win. So
if you want to go see Bengals v. Steelers, go
to Longnecks in Richwood tonight and you'll have a chance.
(13:24):
You'll have a chance. You can't win if you're not there.
You can meet Lance McCallister and Rocky Boyman and maybe
win tickets to the game. Again. That's the Richwood location
Long Necks that show from six to nine tonight down
the hall. Uh really quick. You know, Brian Callahan got
let go by the Tennessee Titans. His dad, Bill was
on staff and renowned for his work with offensive lines,
(13:48):
and so many are wondering, like, well, they're gonna just
do a kind of a huge Ackson thing with Brian Callahan,
maybe Bill Callahan, And maybe they do. And I'm not
opposed to it, but if you are acknowledging that, well,
you know what they could benefit from Brian Callahan being
in the building because he knows the Bengals, he knows
Zach Taylor, he knows the offense for what it's worth,
(14:09):
knows Joe Burrow. That's fine, But if you're acknowledging that,
then you're acknowledging they could use some help from outside.
If you're acknowledging they could use some help from outside.
That should not be limited to Brian and Bill Callahan
twenty four after three ESPN fifteen.
Speaker 5 (14:26):

On eastbound two seventy five, there's an accident. This is
on the Combs hail Bridge. Another crash on Hamilton that's
over at Stevens Avenue south of Compton Road, northbound seventy one.
(14:56):
Traffic slowed between Ridge and Stuart Road, a two to
three minute away. I'm at Ezelach with traffic.
Speaker 7 (15:02):
This report is sponsored pro.
Speaker 8 (15:04):
No one covers the Bengals like ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati's
sports plan.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
And someone finally told me it is three point thirty
on ESPN fifteen thirty. So Lee Sterling joins us. Every
single Thursday, we have the Big Lance Mowen Rocky simulcast
tomorrow and so it it's like two shows in one.
So I wanted to see if we could take some
of our Thursday stuff and move it to Wednesday. And
so I reached out to my guy Lee Sterling last
night said Hey, Man, still want to have you Can
(15:32):
you do it on Wednesday? I know you're you're still
working on the weekend getting said for college and pro football.
And Lee instantly was like, Mo, anything for you. This
is why you should use Paramount sports dot com and
take advice from our guy Lee, who has made us
a lot of money so far here in the college
and pro football season. Lee, what's going on?
Speaker 9 (15:52):
I'm good, I'm good.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
I'm like I said, it's today. You're early and not
finished with all the games, but I'm finished with your game.
So you know, things can change, injuries, things like that.
You know, we don't know the full status of Trey
Hendrickson yet, but I think we've got a pretty good
idea just about everyone else.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
Yeah, all right, So let's start with a big twelve
battle that's not the Bearcats in Oklahoma State. More on
that game in just a second. Let's talk about the
Battle of Utah where the Utes are laying three and
a half against BYU.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
All right, so these games are usually close. You see
a lot of these guys on one team, they can
end up on another team. Now with then il they
just switch over. Used to be they go on a
Mormon mission and then come back and sometimes then on
the other team. I mean a lot of family members.
You know, it's a house divided. I don't think there's
(16:43):
that much difference between these two teams, although both teams
are different. Utah has the best player on the.
Speaker 4 (16:49):
Field in Devin Dampier.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
He's passed for eleven touchdowns, he's run for five. I
don't think though, that his supporting cast is great. I mean,
got a couple receivers and Ryan Davis tight end Dallon Bentley.
Speaker 9 (17:03):
These two guys are.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
Good, but you know they're only catching balls for like
ten and eleven yards per reception. On the other side,
Bear Bachmeer not quite as talented as Devin Dampier, but
got better running back and LJ. Martin has over six
hundred and fifty yards. He's got two receivers, and Chase
Robertson and Parker Kingston who were averaging nineteen and fourteen
(17:26):
and a half yards of reception, even a tight end
case and Ryan averaging fifteen yards of reception. I just
think this is a game that's usually decided either on
the last possession or the last play. Last year was
the last play, and BYU went on the road and
won twenty two to twenty one. I had BYU win
it again at home. This game is at home I
(17:47):
have won in twenty six twenty four.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
Just think that.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
Utah sometimes not great at throwing the football. If they
fall behind, that could be tough for him. Two teams
with good spread records. Utah has five and one against
the spread, BYU four and two against the spread.
Speaker 10 (18:04):
Why not, I'm set.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
In the Holy World War here one hundred and third
time they're playing BYU twenty six, twenty four.
Speaker 1 (18:11):
All right, very good, let's stay in the Big twelve.
Oklahoma State has been a train wreck this season. They've
lost their three Big twelve games by an average of
more than twenty two points. Cincinnati against a Big twelve
opponent on the road, more than a three touchdown favorite.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
Well, it does carry you, obviously. They took their foot
off the gas last week, and this is a role
they're not familiar with. They're much more talented than Oklahoma State.
Colaoma State already had some guys transfer out after the
coach got fired. Yeah, you're able to do that if
your coach gets fired. So that's what happened here. Oklahoma
State is my worst rated Power for Conference team by
(18:49):
seven points behind Stanford here.
Speaker 10 (18:53):
So you know, we talked.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
About it that close Week one lost to Nebraska's kept
Cincinnati off the radar. The only team with who averages
more yards here is only one in the country on offense,
and I mean this offense is really good when they
put the you know, they put their foot on the
gas here, and few teams are worse than Oklahoma States offense.
The only one is maybe Oklahoma States defense. Yep, Cincinnati's
(19:18):
going to cover forty five seven.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
All right, very good, I like I like you like
how you thinking?
Speaker 11 (19:22):
Lee?
Speaker 1 (19:23):
Thank you very much, Lee Sterling, Paramount Sports dot Com.
All right, the Bengals, there's been a surge of optimism
here in Cincinnati because of how Joe Flacco and the
offense performed late in the game against Green Bay. They
are still home dogs in a short week against Pittsburgh,
getting five and a half.
Speaker 9 (19:40):
You saw it. You saw Mike Tomlin. He was not happy.
Trust me, he.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
Knows what it's all about. Here, the Steelers are reluctant
to blitz Flaco after Flacco relieved Anthony Richards in mid
game for the Colts last year through a pair of
touchdown passes to help them beat the Steelers. Packers didn't
blitz Stationary Joe Here much at all on Sunday. Here
(20:05):
and Joe Flack on the second half.
Speaker 9 (20:07):
He looked good.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
The first half took him a little while, but at home,
if they had to travel, maybe, you know, might be
a little tougher. But I like the points. Let's call
for the upset here?
Speaker 11 (20:17):
Why not?
Speaker 2 (20:19):
King favored Dongles twenty six twenty four, same score over Pittsburgh.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
Lee Sterling picking the Bengals to pull off the upset
over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Music to My ears by the
way Lea's on Twitter at Paramount Sports here. Game of
the Week has Luke Fickle, a huge underdog, maybe on
the Wisconsin sideline for the final time, going up against
his alma mater.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
Yep, We're gonna find out. Does he have anything to show?
Ohio State didn't last week at all Ohio State got
to be looking ahead down the road to some other games,
but gonna be interesting. It's a tough point spread. You
want to find out if Ohio State blows them out
Org in Wisconsin, keep it under the spread. Be one
of the first five callers called eight hundred, four hundred
(21:04):
nine seven four one GiB be Ohio State, Wisconsin on me.
Speaker 9 (21:07):
And how about this.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
We've been running this five for fifty five promotion the
last four weeks, five games on Sunday, and we've gone
five and oh five and oh five and oh and
last week, sorry about that four and one. Last four
weeks are a nineteen in one in the NFL. You
want to hop on board and get four weeks of
(21:28):
NFL plays, five plays My top five every Sunday is
called Lee's NFL Golden Ticket. Just one hundred ninety seven
dollars for four weeks or through the end of the
regular season every Sunday, just four hundred ninety seven dollars
one place, Paramount sports dot com.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
Eight hundred, four hundred ninety seven four one Paramount Sports
dot Com. Lee, I appreciate you adjusting your schedule. We'll
talk next week.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
Thanks mout take care.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
There you go. There's our guy, Lee Sterling Paramount sports
dot Com. Meanwhile, we're getting said for a decision Day
in Major League Soccer. FC Cincinnati has the two seed
in the Eastern Conference on the line. They can clinch
it with a victory over Montreal home game for the
Orange and Blue earlier start for Decision Day at six
o'clock on Saturday evening the match on Apple TV's MLS
(22:14):
Season Pass, where Ross Smith is an MLS match analyst. Ross,
It's good to have you. FC Cincinnati is playing for something.
Montreal is not. That organization seems like a bit of
a train wreck right now. Do they pose a thread
on Saturday night?
Speaker 9 (22:31):
They do?
Speaker 12 (22:32):
They do, you know, despite moment that they've had an
awful season, the worst in club history in MLS, they're fighting.
They're fighting and credit they've got an interim manager, Marco Donadel,
who took over you can say about a quarter of
the way through the season.
Speaker 13 (22:53):
He's done a good job.
Speaker 12 (22:55):
He's a former player with them, big name you know
in the soccer world. He's done a good job just
at stabilizing, at getting guys back to putting in an
effort which has to be said they're gonna give Cincinnati
a good goal for it. You know, despite not having
(23:15):
much to play, they're playing for jobs. Guys are playing
for next season.
Speaker 10 (23:19):
There's a couple of.
Speaker 12 (23:20):
Guys who are doing all right. They're they're gonna give
c Cincinnati a good goal for this. So they're not
gonna lay down. Says they're going to be a walkover
as you step into two playoffs.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
Sc Cincinnati's home record isn't awful eight victories, four draw
five draws this season, Yet Dave, I think they've played
unevenly in their own building. Any idea why, Wow, it's tough.
Speaker 10 (23:46):
It's so tough.
Speaker 12 (23:47):
I do feel like, yes, Cincinnati, they're seeing that when
they click, and I can't put it down to like
a home more a way. I feel as though when
they click though, watch out. But if they're not click seen,
then all of a sudden you can get them, you
can get at them. And and I bet bat Newton,
I'm gonna chat. I'm gonna sit down with Pat newon tomorrow.
I'm gonna chat with him. And Pat is so open,
(24:09):
which is is just one of the you know, there's
many attributes that I really admire about Pat noon that's.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
One of them.
Speaker 10 (24:16):
He'll tell us straight. But I think that's one of them.
Is the consistency of the team, team.
Speaker 12 (24:21):
Style that they want to play. But what they have
at the end of the day, when the when it's
not quite happening, they've got individual brilliance. And I still
give creditson managers for bringing out the individual brilliance. You know,
some managers, you know, might have a top player in
their team but not be getting the best out of them.
Patt Nowonon is so when the style is not quite happening,
(24:44):
he still has a couple of I call them heavy hitters.
It's got a couple of heavy hitters and the team
of course at Vander you know that can that can deliver.
Speaker 10 (24:54):
I don't know.
Speaker 12 (24:55):
I don't think Homer away. I don't think it makes
much of a difference. I don't think these guys are
overawed when they, you know, ohm and feeling the pressure.
I just think it's a matter of when it clicks
and when it doesn't.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
Pat Newonan was the coach of the year or two
years ago. I think this has been his best coaching job.
Would you agree, Yeah.
Speaker 12 (25:17):
Yeah, he's he tacks all the boxes and I think
the box that he takes the best is he tells
guys straight. And granted I'm not on the training ground
all the time. I actually played with Pat for a
short period of time in Colorado, and I know Pat
in terms of he'll tell you straight, and he'll tell
you straight without feeling as though you have to turn
(25:39):
your back on him and think, you know, kind of
screw you, I'm out of here. He'll tell you you
know when you're doing well, and you know when you're
not doing well. And I don't think there's as many coaches,
I don't think there's as many characters in the game
as Pat Newman that delivers it that way, and I
think it's missed.
Speaker 10 (25:59):
So I think that's one of.
Speaker 12 (26:00):
His skill sets that he can't hide it. He needs
to tell you, you know, which is admirable.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
Ross Smiths MLS match analyst for Apple TV MLS Season Pass.
Regardless of whether they're the two or the three, FC
Cincinnati is in the playoffs the East. Last year it
felt like the Big Three and then the postseason began
and the Eastern Conference got turned on its head. What
do you expect this year?
Speaker 12 (26:26):
Eastern Conferences by far the better conference by far the
better conference. However, Vancouver coming out on the other side
with Thomas Mueller Thomas, but they haven't lost yet. And
and the Germany has come across after spending his entire
career career with Bayern Munich. He has been sensational, so
watch out for him, watch out for son On with LAFC,
(26:49):
it's the same. The effect of those two players coming
into their team is something else. But still the Eastern Conference,
you know, right the way through, the teams that are
making the playoffs are.
Speaker 10 (27:02):
A different level.
Speaker 12 (27:03):
However, there's a couple of teams that are having a
dip right now, and Orlando's one of them. So for
Orlando right now, it's shaken up that they could say, Cincinnati,
that's a good matchup. And even though Orlando came in
to your building, to Cincinnati's building a couple of weeks ago,
and I thought deserved three points, they're weekends, they've got injuries,
(27:24):
they're not looking like themselves, which is a horrible team
to play against. Anyways, I think if you're an FC
Cincinnati fan, you don't mind taking on Orlando in the
first rounds if that's the matchup. But whenever team comes
out of the Eastern Conference. They've done well because that
is a tough conference.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
Right now feels much more wide open. And that's Philadelphia team.
It felt like every time they needed to win in
the supporter shield race, they did. And so I want
to watch Pat noon and coach against his former organization.
We will see first things for wrap up the two
seed with a win on Saturday night against Montreal six o'clock.
(28:04):
MLS season pass, Apple TV Ross. Awesome to have you man,
Thanks so much.
Speaker 13 (28:08):
Well, greed to hear you. Thanks for having me on always.
Speaker 1 (28:11):
Thank you so much. FC Cincinnati season regular season finale
at six o'clock on Saturday night against Montreal. It's them
or Miami for the two Miami and Cincinnati. Right now,
we're tied in points. FC Cincinnati would win a tiebreaker
if both ended up tied, but the Orange and Blue
can wrap up the two seed with a three point
(28:32):
result on Saturday evening six pm. The match, I believe
that is a Fox Sports thirteen sixty broadcast. If I'm
not mistaken. On the ring, I think Kentucky plays. See
these are the things I should know as an employee
the radio station. But here's this is why this is
what separates me from everybody else. I will make the
rest of this segment sound clunky so I could look
(28:53):
it up in real time. Pull this up Kentucky. Kentucky
plays Texas at seven. That's not going to go well
from work stoops, so that moves the fc Cincinnati radio
broadcast to Fox Sports thirteen sixty. The game starts at six,
so you'll hear Tommy and Kevin at five thirty.
Speaker 10 (29:11):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
Uh, we found out bad news about a UC Bearcat
basketball player that I think was going to be and
could still be, I guess a factor this season. That
and the football situation as the Bearcats get set to
hit the road with our guy, Chad Brundle.
Speaker 5 (29:28):
Next Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 6 (29:33):
Traffic from the UC Health to Traffic Center. The UC
Health's Women's Sports Medicine Program provides specialized care for female
athletes at all levels. Schedule and appointment online at UCHealth
dot com. On Bridgetown Road, there's an accident at Ebenezer Road.
Another accident on Hamilton at Stevens Avenue. That one is
(29:54):
south of Compton Road on laid Lawn. Another accident west
of Paddock Road. And northbound Redding Road. One more accident
after Dale Road on that ezelic with traffic.
Speaker 4 (30:05):
This report you have sponsored by.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
Ten Away from four o'clock. This is ESPN fifteen thirty.
Typically Chad Rendle's with us on Thursdays, but whatever, it's
a weird week. So I asked Chad to join us
today because there's a there's a lot to discuss. Bearcatjournal
dot com. Hi, Chad.
Speaker 11 (30:24):
There's been a lot of weird weeks lately though.
Speaker 1 (30:27):
Yeah, there has been. Yes, that's I'm done with the
weird week. Uh, yes, I just want a normal I
want a normal week. Here's also what I want. I
want to be doing my show. And then in the
middle of it, uh not, get a press release from
UC announcing that a basketball player is going to be
out indefinitely.
Speaker 11 (30:47):
That was That was not great yesterday, mo. I thought
we might have but we might get through a day
like fairly unscathed. And then at you know, four fifteen
or whatever it was that hit yesterday and it was scathed.
The day was scathed.
Speaker 1 (31:03):
Yeah, all right, how big of a loss is Jalen Haynes?
And when I read in definitely should I fear that
this could be a season long thing.
Speaker 11 (31:11):
Uh, it's a big loss. A big loss, especially because
I think with or without Jalen Haynes, I think this
is going to be a really good team. Defensively, I
think Jalen Haynes was going to be a guy that
could help them on the offensive end substantially. He wasn't
a traditional people see his size and think like old
(31:35):
school back to the basket, throw it to him and
get a bucket.
Speaker 10 (31:38):
There was some of that to.
Speaker 11 (31:39):
His game, but he had a lot more than that. Offensively,
he could catch it at fifteen feet and drive. He
could shoot the little fifteen seventeen footer. You could run
offense through him because he was a really good passer.
So I think offensively, this is a pretty big blow
to Cincinnati. I don't think they particularly specifically know yet
(32:02):
how long it's gonna be. I was kind of calling
some of my friends around the country to get a
feel for some of this. I had a friend of
mine that's an assistant in a Power five league, power
four league that said, they've got a guy that they
think they could get back in December, and that guy.
Speaker 13 (32:21):
My red shirt.
Speaker 11 (32:23):
Because he's gonna miss two months. You come back in
conference play. You only get two months why not red shirt?
And then you get this year's payment for your services
and you get another year next year of payment for
your services.
Speaker 10 (32:38):
So I think that's.
Speaker 11 (32:40):
Something to watch out for on this too. Like, if
this is something that goes into January or February or
whatever it is, does it make sense for Jalen Haynes
to maybe say, Hey, I'm gonna I'm gonna get back
to one hundred percent and we'll do it again next year.
So I possibly yes, Like maybe the injury keeps him
(33:02):
out that whole time, maybe he decides the red shirt
is the best way to go. But I do think
it's something that mentally you got to prepare for and
that west Miller and his team has to prepare for
that it could be a season long thing.
Speaker 1 (33:14):
October fifteenth and we're already talking about this. They do
play Michigan on Friday. I'll be able to watch this
on like Big ten plus two some version of the
Big ten network. I can watch this on on Friday.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
It's on Big.
Speaker 11 (33:27):
Ten plus with that, which I think is like fifteen
dollars a month, So.
Speaker 1 (33:32):
I gotta pay fifteen bucks much pay fifteen Bucks once
you see play Michigan on Friday, I believe. So if
I decide to do this, give me one or two
things I should be looking for.
Speaker 11 (33:46):
Well, Michigan might have the best player in the country,
so that's something you can pay attention to. Is how
to Cincinnati handle Yaxville Lindenborg. We were like, hey, go
get that guy.
Speaker 1 (33:58):
Yes, yeah, best player in the country.
Speaker 11 (34:02):
So he'll be really good and then it'll be interesting
to see how Cincinnati handles him on the interior. I'm
gonna be very interested to see in how some of
the rotation book. I know it's an exhibition game. An
exhibition game a couple of days after they lose what
was going to be a really important piece of their
front court rotation. But and here here's the name though
(34:28):
where he's not getting a lot of talk yet. But
I think, especially if this injury lasts for an extended
period of time, I'm really interested in Jordi Rodriguez because
I think he can help this team. He was He's
from Spain, played in the in their their top league,
also was on the national team with Boba Miller. I
(34:51):
really like what I've seen from Jordi Rodriguez I've liked
what I've heard from people that have been there every day.
I think if there's an increased role, that's a guy
that might be able to capitalize on it more than anyone.
And he can really really shoot the basketball. And I
would like to have as many of those type of
guys on the floor as possible.
Speaker 1 (35:12):
It's twelve ninety nine a month. I got to pay
thirteen bucks to watch UC versus. I'll be in in
Oklahoma City for the game against Oklahoma State. Maybe I
can get Hord and Pike to chip in and we'll
pay the thirteen bucks to watch the game.
Speaker 9 (35:30):
Well, I will be there in ann Arbor.
Speaker 1 (35:32):
Oh perfect?
Speaker 9 (35:34):
Could you hold follow me on Twitter?
Speaker 1 (35:37):
I'll follow you on Twitter, Gret. What if i'd like
just text you, like intermittently during the game.
Speaker 11 (35:43):
Uh, yeah, I'm down with that.
Speaker 14 (35:45):
You know.
Speaker 11 (35:45):
I'll update you. Maybe maybe we can FaceTime. Yeah, and
I'll give you some of the action. I don't know
where they're gonna sit us. Yeah, I saw it was
in section like two hundred something.
Speaker 2 (35:57):
M hm.
Speaker 11 (35:58):
So I'm probably not gonna have the best of you,
but I'll be there.
Speaker 1 (36:02):
I'm very good. I have two more questions for you.
One is basketball related.
Speaker 3 (36:06):
You know.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
I came to the West Miller media availability today, Yes,
because I am hopeful that we could replicate what they
did in Boston where the Celtics coaches drubbed Boston Celtics
media in a scrimmage fifty seven to four. And I
was trying to find five dudes in that room that
we could put on the floor against the Bearcat coaches.
(36:27):
Would you be game?
Speaker 11 (36:30):
I'm game? I mean I Keegan. Would you know Keegan's
probably going to be our best bet for an athlete?
Speaker 5 (36:37):
Uh?
Speaker 11 (36:38):
He was. I don't have you know this one? Not
Keegan played Juco baseball.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
I did not know this.
Speaker 11 (36:43):
So so he's an athlete, Well he's a catcher. Okay,
so he's kind of an athlete. He's athlete a Jason.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
Now, by the way, Tarran has volunteered his services, so
you know we Arran would help.
Speaker 11 (36:57):
I've got Corey Evans. I'll guard Corey very good.
Speaker 1 (37:02):
We'll work on that. For me. Football is not going
to lose to Oklahoma State.
Speaker 9 (37:07):
Right, I wouldn't think.
Speaker 11 (37:10):
So I got to answer our guy Jeff that f
f car had me on one of his shows and
asked me if this was a trap game, I said, Jeff,
I think the trap game was last Saturday.
Speaker 1 (37:20):
Yes, I agree.
Speaker 11 (37:23):
You're coming off of Kansas and Iowa State. You got
a talented but underachieving, a little bit Central Florida team.
It's a rivalry game. Cincinnati didn't play great on offense,
Like I thought that was the trap game. I think
this week Oklahoma State's just not very talented, and they'll
(37:43):
play hard, and it's homecoming and it's the night game.
I wouldn't be surprised to see them hang around for
a little bit. But this is a much much, much
more talented Cincinnati squad, and I think they're trap game.
Their sleep through game was last week against Central Florida.
I think Oklahoma State will have their undivided attention. Dante
(38:06):
Corleo mentioned they still remember Oli Gordon running for what
was it, four hundred and eighty three yards like two
years ago. It's still water, So I don't think this
is going to be a look past the opponent game.
And Oklahoma State is pretty bad.
Speaker 1 (38:25):
How much will I have to pay to watch the
Arkansas exhbision? That to pay the SEC network money too.
Speaker 11 (38:31):
So that's on SEC plush. But as long as you
have like the ESPN yeah thing, uh huh, you should
get that. That's just far to b SPN.
Speaker 1 (38:40):
All right, so I'm looking at thirteen bucks.
Speaker 11 (38:43):
Yeah, and I'm sending Kegan to Arkansas.
Speaker 1 (38:47):
Okay, very good.
Speaker 11 (38:49):
So we'll have somebody's there too, because the Bearcut Journal
that's what we do. Mom.
Speaker 1 (38:55):
I was hoping that the radio flagship of the Bearcats
would would perhaps broadcast those games. But I'm spending thirteen
bucks I guess on Friday to watch that tilt while
following you on Twitter. Thank you as always, I appreciate you,
uh changing your schedule? Go ahead, hold on.
Speaker 11 (39:12):
You have the luxury that nobody else has.
Speaker 10 (39:15):
What is that you can.
Speaker 11 (39:17):
Put the game on your phone and have Dan Horde
call it for you.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
This is an excellent idea. And I don't know if
Dan is listening, but his Friday night plans have now
been made for him. All right, Chad, thanks, Thanks Mike.
Do that, Chad Brendel, Bearcat Journal dot Com. Thirteen bucks
for Big Day. What do you get on Big ten
plus for a month to watch all the Wisconsin Iowa football?
(39:46):
You want to watch Luke Fickle standing on the sideline.
That's fun. Here's some Nebraska. Nebraska volleyball matches are a
big deal. You can watch those. Robert Winstroubs usually on Thursday,
but he's gonna on Wednesday next. On ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati Sports station is comblin.
Speaker 8 (40:04):
On Thursday Night football, the Bengals look to toss the
Steelers into the recycling bin. There's a lot I can
say about Pittsburgh, but none of it can be set
on our radio. The Bengals slug it out with the
Steelers tomorrow.
Speaker 9 (40:18):
Coverage vos at three pm stream for free.
Speaker 8 (40:21):
Are the new and improved iHeartRadio app or ESPN fifteen thirty,
the official home of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 1 (40:30):
There has to be somewhere out there in Ohio State
fan who has a Big ten plus login right, who
watches like the rowing teams. Ohio State has every sport conceivable,
the wrestling team, equestrian squad, and they watch those events
on the Big ten plus that they pay thirteen dollars
(40:53):
a month for. So if I could just borrow that
login on Friday, I'm not gonna do anything else with it,
right to watch the Bearcats play against Michigan. We're both
going to be rooting against Michigan in that game, right,
So I'm just trying to save thirteen dollars. So if
you know, if you're an obviously you're not. You don't
(41:13):
need big ten plus for Buckeyes football, but big ten
plus for you know, if you'd like to watch the
golf team play, why Day is a good golf team.
I'm sure it. Just let me borrow the login Friday
night and I'll do you a solid. I have nothing
to reciprocate with, but that would be nice. Robert wy
Trub is with us again, a typical Thursday guest. But
(41:34):
you know, everything's different this week. Everything's really it's gonna
be different for a while. Everything's different this week because
of the game tomorrow. So I asked Robert to join
us before his weekly column is even up. He does
write one for Cincinnati Magazine. You could read it weekly
at Cincinnati Magazine dot comed. He's with us now.
Speaker 15 (41:50):
Hi, Robert, Hey, I feel naked joining you before the
column is even that what am I supposed to refer to?
I'll just have to wake it and spitball my way
through that weekly segment.
Speaker 1 (42:02):
I too feel naked for reasons that have nothing to
do with your column. All right, so I viewed the
game against Green Bay as a preseason game. The result
they weren't going to win that one, right, So all right,
let's let's see if they can do some stuff during
that game that they can build on. I'm not sure
we saw that defensively, I do think we saw with
Joe Flacco. Did we see enough to make us believe
(42:24):
they could upset the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 15 (42:28):
Well, I'll say this, there's one critical difference between that
and a preseason game, which is, as you were just
alluding to, being a football fan is expensive, right, and
entertainment product. The Bengals without Flacco, with Browning in there
were just unwatchable and they made you eat all the
money or you know, God forbid you paid to go.
Speaker 10 (42:45):
To the game.
Speaker 15 (42:46):
So the ultimate sin in football, especially the NFL, is
to be so execrable and dysfunctional that you make you
want to turn the TV off basicly.
Speaker 16 (42:56):
So you know, Flacco gave them that.
Speaker 15 (42:58):
They were obviously in the game him in the second half.
It was a decent TV product. They had a chance.
So yeah, they had also a lot of opportunity to
as we'll probably get to work on some things and
do a lot of things they probably wouldn't in the game.
Speaker 16 (43:12):
They weren't sort of shadow throwing away.
Speaker 15 (43:15):
It felt like a little bit given Flaco's brand newness
to the offense in the fact, they probably weren't going
to beat the Packers, at least they didn't think going in,
despite what they talked about post game. But yeah, I
think obviously now they have the Steelers coming in to.
Speaker 16 (43:29):
Ben Gay Bowl.
Speaker 15 (43:31):
You know, they have the young bucket, the two quarterbacks
with Flaco and Aaron Rodgers. It's a tough matchup in
a couple of senses, but you know they can definitely
win the game. I don't think Mike Tomlin would have
been so upset at his press conference if she didn't
recognize the fact that Blaco gives them a much better
chance than Jake Browning did. The Steelers killed Jake Browning
in twenty twenty three twice. I'm sure they were licking
(43:52):
their chops to play him. Flaco made the offense functional.
Speaker 16 (43:56):
He got the ball just like we were talking about
last week.
Speaker 15 (43:59):
He got rid of it in time and quickly got
out of bad plays, didn't turn bad plays into worst plays,
and you know the dreaded cliche kept them ahead of
the chains.
Speaker 16 (44:09):
He did that and gave them a chance to win
the game with a couple of things even broke right
for them.
Speaker 15 (44:13):
And you know, seem to recognize that throwing the ball
in the general, as sime of Jamar Chase, is always
a good thing.
Speaker 17 (44:19):
So they have a crack.
Speaker 16 (44:21):
You know, the.
Speaker 15 (44:22):
Steelers and Aaron Rodgers have played pretty functional themselves in
a lot of ways. Rogers is doing for Pittsburgh what
Placo did for the Bengals in the second half. You know,
he's not turning the ball over. He has only three picks.
And you know the bad news is Steelers lead the
league in yards per catch, yards after the catch for reception,
which means they've.
Speaker 16 (44:40):
Been breaking tackles.
Speaker 15 (44:41):
And of course the Bengals don't make many tackles, so
that's a matchup there are no doubt can exploit, especially
if the rookie linebackers play as we assume they are.
Speaker 1 (44:49):
The Steelers have a good record. I think a lot
of us are trying to figure out really how good
they are? What do what do the advanced metrics tell us.
Speaker 15 (45:00):
Their defense is very good? I don't think that's been
any surprise. We expected it coming into the season. We
expected them to lean heavily on their defense, and that's
what the event's metrics tell us. They're right at the
top of the league in pressure rate, they're in the
top ten.
Speaker 16 (45:13):
In DV away, and they're doing the things you expect
them to do.
Speaker 15 (45:16):
Their one flaw is that they have had trouble guarding
number one enemy wide receivers, which might actually play in
this things nice hands Jamar Chase is no doubt noting that,
and he's had successful games against the Steelers certainly before.
And you know, offensively, like I alluded to, they're not
trying to do anything particularly fancy. They're not asking Aaron
Rodgers to do the things his ancient body can't do.
Speaker 16 (45:41):
And you know, they're sort of middle of the pack,
which is what they expected.
Speaker 15 (45:44):
But they have offensive line issues and they're mitigating it
by their style of play.
Speaker 16 (45:48):
And the key will be.
Speaker 15 (45:49):
You know what, which team can get the other out
of their quasi comfort zone. I guess first and make
the other team make a mistake. And given the fact
that the Steelers defense has certainly been better than the
Bengals defense has.
Speaker 16 (46:01):
Been through the first you know, five six weeks of
the season. You have to give them the advantage in
that sense.
Speaker 15 (46:06):
But you know, short week, home game, primetime, anything can happen.
Speaker 1 (46:09):
Robert win Troup is with his check for his weekly
Bengals column at Cincinnati Magazine dot com. They're benching Logan Wilson.
We saw them give a lot of playing time to
Barrett Carter. This defense needs a spark, This defense needs
guys who can make tackles. What do you make on
what they've done with a guy that a lot of
us thought was kind of gonna be the anchor of
the defense this season.
Speaker 15 (46:31):
Well, yeah, and a lot of us thought that because
that's exactly what Al Golden said was gonna happen all
off season. Basically, let's build around Logan Wilson, get a
couple of understudies and rookies to work with him and
sort of transform the defense in the middle there. And
it's kind of, you know, contradicting it not only himself,
but it also is sort of like, what are the
(46:52):
Bengals doing here? And one breath they're telling you, oh,
we still have a great chance.
Speaker 16 (46:55):
We brought in Flaco.
Speaker 15 (46:57):
We want to you know, not punt on the season
and yet in this movie, it almost seems like, you know,
let's give the kids a chance in a low pressure situation.
The season's gone anyway without Joe Burro playing, Let's throw
them in there. We're gonna have to turn over the
defense of them eventually. Let's give them all their you know,
reps now while the pressure is a.
Speaker 16 (47:17):
Little bit off.
Speaker 15 (47:18):
So in that sense, it's a little strange. I can
understand what they were thinking sort of, but you know,
and then you see that mistackles and lining up in
the wrong place and kind of doing the wrong thing
really hurt them in the Green Bay game.
Speaker 16 (47:31):
And you know, it's one.
Speaker 15 (47:32):
Thing to have it happened against the Packers in the
game you're expected to lose.
Speaker 16 (47:36):
But now you've got a division game in prime time
stand alone.
Speaker 15 (47:39):
You hope that we don't have a repeat of that
on Thursday night, for sure.
Speaker 1 (47:43):
Well said really quick. The difference, and I've talked about
this this week, The difference between three and four and
two and five feels massive because then we start talking
about Pittsburgh running away with it, and here we start
talking about the trade deadline. Trey Hendry would be the
most frequently discussed guy, but by the way, for what
it's worth, Trey just a few moment moments ago showed
(48:06):
up on the injury report as questionable, which is a
small step in the right direction beyond him. If that's
what we're doing in a week, who are some other
guys they can maybe get something for?
Speaker 15 (48:16):
Well, what if I flipped it around and told you
what they really should do. Not only would they trade Hendrickson,
which you imagine they would probably try to do, but
what if they looked over to another terrible team that
just fired their coach.
Speaker 16 (48:27):
Our friend will Brian Callahan and.
Speaker 15 (48:30):
Said, you know what, we've never been able to get
a defensive tackling here.
Speaker 16 (48:33):
Since you know Atkins who could.
Speaker 15 (48:34):
Rush the passer, Let's give a pick already since we
can't draft one, and get Jeffrey Simmons.
Speaker 1 (48:39):
Over to Heah.
Speaker 16 (48:40):
No, I know you wouldn't diseason per se, but it
would be a center of gravity you can build around.
Look at the future.
Speaker 15 (48:47):
You know, you had your quarterback coming back eventually, and uh,
you know, maybe it's not a direct Hendrickson for Simmons Trey,
but it works out that way in terms of the picks.
Speaker 16 (48:56):
And uh, you know, you get rid of.
Speaker 15 (48:58):
An aging guy you don't want to pay next year,
for sure.
Speaker 16 (49:01):
They've made that clear. And you bring in the guy
who's only twenty eight, has a.
Speaker 15 (49:04):
Decent contract and is obviously an excellent player, and finally
he gets an interior pass rush and and a real
dominator on the inside. Now, will they do it? Will
the Titans do it?
Speaker 3 (49:14):
Probably not?
Speaker 16 (49:14):
Will the Bengals do it? Almost absolutely. It's the first
thing I thought about.
Speaker 15 (49:18):
And you know, whether they trade, you know, Logan Wilson,
let's say for a mid round pick, whatever.
Speaker 10 (49:23):
I don't think any of that. It's the needle.
Speaker 16 (49:25):
Let's think big.
Speaker 15 (49:26):
We still got a little bit of opportunity to maybe
win our third game of the season.
Speaker 16 (49:30):
What the heck, we're in dream state right.
Speaker 1 (49:31):
Now, mom, we are. We are in dream state, and
you're naked, So it's it's getting weird. I appreciate you
adjusting your schedule for us. We'll talk next week.
Speaker 15 (49:40):
These things happen when you get me on Wednesday.
Speaker 1 (49:44):

Speaker 1 (50:51):
Talks more about football in a second. But the Cincinnati
Cyclones are gearing up for the twenty twenty five twenty
twenty six season. Lincoln Griffin is back back for his
fifth season with the Cyclones. Had a huge year last year.
Career high fifty two points led the clones and assists
some points, shared the team leading goals, led the team
in power play goals and short handed goals, and appeared
(51:13):
in a career high seventy games. He is getting ready
for the season, Lincoln. It's awesome to have you. Thank
you for joining us. How are you?
Speaker 17 (51:20):
I'm great, Thank you for having me.
Speaker 1 (51:22):
What are those days before the season opener like for you?
Speaker 18 (51:27):
So right now we're in training camp and so we're
kind of just you know, on the ice for an
hour hour and a half, getting ready for the home opener.
Speaker 1 (51:37):
Home opener, by the way, on Saturday against the Wheeling
Nailor's first face off at seven thirty. What is a
typical training camp day like?
Speaker 18 (51:47):
We get to the rink probably around eight, you know,
do our routine, stretch, have workout, and then we hop
on the ice and then you know, go through practice,
get off, cool down, have lunch, and then uh, you know,
before getting on the ice, we have some meetings and yeah,
(52:09):
it's it's just gearing up for that first game.
Speaker 1 (52:12):
You have a new head coach in Riley Weslowski. What
are your impressions of him? It's going great.
Speaker 18 (52:19):
He's a he's an intelligent hockey guy. You know, he's
running the practice as well. It's very efficient. He uh,
you know, he brought a good group in and uh,
just excited to get started.
Speaker 1 (52:33):
Do you have a lot of guys and you've gone
through this for some of your teammates or certainly for
a lot of players in the EHL, this is their
first taste of professional hockey. What is the biggest adjustment,
especially right now.
Speaker 18 (52:47):
Yeah, you know, you get new faces in the locker room,
especially for the younger guys they're coming from college or juniors.
It's just I think the difference is, you know, they're
they're playing against big, faster, stronger guys out there, and
you know, years ago I was I was one of them,
(53:07):
and you get the nerves and once you get that
first shift over and done with, you know, you kind
of settle in and you can play your game.
Speaker 1 (53:17):
So, I mean it's five years ago, right, you're getting
ready for year five. Was there a moment where you're like,
oh man, professional hockey is a little bit different than
everything I've done to this point.
Speaker 18 (53:29):
Yeah, I think just the speed of the game. You know,
you're playing against older guys that have been in the league,
and you know, have played pro for a non number
of years and it's a little adjustment. But like I said,
once you get that first shift and first game over
and done with, I think you kind of settle in
(53:49):
and you know, just get used to it.
Speaker 1 (53:52):
Riley has on his staff Louis camparosso fan favorite guy
who was nice enough to join our show maybe six
weeks ago. What is it like having a guy that
you played with now being one of your coaches.
Speaker 3 (54:04):
It's awesome.
Speaker 18 (54:06):
You know, we played together for uh three or four years.
He's a great guy on and off the ice, tremendous player,
uh just and he has that hockey knowledge that you
know he can give to the younger guys and you
know me as well. So I can't wait to see
him behind the bench.
Speaker 1 (54:25):
You you kind of re signed a late in the process,
I think admittedly, why was that?
Speaker 18 (54:32):
You know, I was going through talks with Wes and
my agent and we came to an agreement, and you know,
I'm back in Cincy. It's my second home and can't
wait to get started.
Speaker 1 (54:46):
What do you like You mentioned your second home. You've
been here a while. What do you like about Cincinnati?
Speaker 17 (54:52):
I think the city's very, very underrated.
Speaker 18 (54:55):
You know, before coming to Cincinnati, I had no idea
what o'hai was like, what since he was like.
Speaker 17 (55:02):
And then I got here, and you know.
Speaker 18 (55:04):
I'm from outside of Boston, so it gives me a
little smaller Boston vibe. You know, there's so much to do.
The fans love their sports. It's incredible here.
Speaker 1 (55:19):
There's no question about that. We agree there. Best of luck.
It's the last few days of training camp Saturday. I'm
sure can't get here soon enough. It's great to have
you back with the Cyclones. Can't thank you enough for
doing this. Best of luck this season, we'll do it again.
Thanks so much, Lincoln.
Speaker 17 (55:35):
I appreciate it. Thank you very time.
Speaker 1 (55:36):
You got it. Lincoln Griffin had a terrific season last
year with the Cincinnati Cyclones, now getting set for the
first season under Riley Weslowski. First face off on Saturday Night,
Puck's gonna drop at seven point thirty. By the way,
first five k get Cyclones calendars. First five thousand fans,
you got two dollars hot dogs, you got two dollars

you go excited, excited to see Riley Weslowski. I've enjoyed
listening to him chat over the last few weeks about
(56:17):
his goals for the season. We had Louis Camperos on
the show. I know he's really excited and be great
to have the Clones played deep into the spring. It

It's always awesome to have you. Here's what I want
to ask you about. Okay, So every year CNBC comes
(57:42):
out with their list of like NFL franchise values, and
you know, you see this or you see this. Every
year with the start of the baseball season, they come
out with their list of MLB franchise values. The Bengals,
for instance, worth over six billion dollars, which is a
lot of money. On the other hand, twenty nine NFL
teams are worth more. The Reds are worth one point
(58:05):
five billion dollars. That's a lot of money. It's a franchise, however,
that people criticize them for being cheap. So I'm going
to start with this. Explain for me the difference between
a franchise's valuation and what they might be able to
spend on stuff like players.
Speaker 19 (58:22):
I mean, I think that you know, five billion, six
billion sounds like a lot of money, but you're a
little bit.
Speaker 20 (58:26):
Lacking some perspective there sometimes, you know. And also you know, for.
Speaker 19 (58:30):
Comparison's sake, the largest team or the largest team valuation,
the Cowboys have more than doubled. But the Bengals are
worth the average team in the NFL seven point six
five billion. So we're below average here, And you know,
I think you have to understand there's.
Speaker 20 (58:46):
Several layers of this.
Speaker 19 (58:47):
One of them is there's certain pot of money that
every team gets to split, right, TV licensing and sponsorships.
Those proceeds are shared evenly among thirty two franchise teams,
to the tune of about four hundred and thirty three
million a team.
Speaker 20 (59:03):
So what's the difference.
Speaker 19 (59:04):
Well, everyone has different stadiums, stadium financing deals.
Speaker 20 (59:09):
We could spend days.
Speaker 19 (59:11):
Here just talking about paycore, the Bangles, Hamilton County in
that whole deal. But I think it's really important to
understand that when you're looking at these valuations, there's tangibles
and then there's intangibles.
Speaker 20 (59:23):
Right, you can you can figure out how much a
stadium is worth.
Speaker 19 (59:27):
You can figure out how much the equipment that the
Bengals own are you can even look at how much
you know their payroll is worth.
Speaker 21 (59:33):
Right.
Speaker 19 (59:33):
But then there's intangibles, and I think that's what makes it.
The difference between where the Bengals are and where the
Cowboys are, Right, we'll just use them as the other
team in this example. And in the intangible is things
like brand right, like the it factor, you know. I
mean there's you know, Cowboys fans who are from here
(59:57):
who have no reason to be Cowboys fans. What they
just are because the team is iconic, the cheerleaders are iconic,
their costumes are iconic. And somehow along the way a
marketing machine was put into place in Dallas that build
that that builds out that iconic status. And I would
argue nothing against the Brown family that maybe something along
(01:00:21):
those lines could be a little bit lacking. Here in Cincinnati,
reading we have players that everyone wants to talk about. Now,
I mean, well, Joe Burrow being hurt obviously is an issue,
But I mean you've got your Jamar Chase as, your Tea's,
your Trey Hendrickson's, You've got great players that people want
to talk about. But when you remove those players from
the conversation, what is the Bengals organization, What does it
(01:00:45):
stand for?
Speaker 20 (01:00:46):
What is it all about?
Speaker 19 (01:00:47):
I think many fans would kind of be scratching their
heads with that answer.
Speaker 20 (01:00:52):
I don't know, what would you say?
Speaker 1 (01:00:53):
Well, I mean, I look at it from a very
sort of basic perspective when you here the Bengals don't
have the money that Jerry Jones does, or that the
New York Giants might write, or that the New England
Patriots too, like that's all well and good. They still
have a franchise worth six billion dollars. And so you
mentioned the stadium thing. There's a lot of folks and
(01:01:14):
I've evolved my way of thinking because I used to
be completely opposed to the idea the taxpayers should fund
pro sports stadiums. Now I don't quite feel exactly the same,
but it would be nice if they would kick in
more money for their stadiums. And so people will say
on the other end of that screw that I shouldn't
have to pay for the Bengals stadium. The Brown family
(01:01:35):
has a franchise worth six billion dollars. Others will say
that doesn't mean that they can afford to pay their stadium,
pay for their stadium on their own so which is it?
Speaker 19 (01:01:45):
Well, and I think you can look at any business.
Since you have this business and it's worth X dollars,
that doesn't mean it's liquid. It doesn't mean you've got
all this money coming out of your pockets and out
of your pores that you have just to spend on things.
Speaker 20 (01:01:58):
You know, I mean there is at there.
Speaker 19 (01:02:00):
And you know, I don't just think the Bengals don't
necessarily have that gap. I mean the gap is going
to be in that intangible place because everyone's going to
have not the same fixed expenses, differing fixed expenses depending
on like how expensive your stadium is. But you know,
and I think also listen, I do not want to
get in the middle it is. I would rather talk
politics than talk Hamilton County stadium deal. But you and
(01:02:25):
I have had the conversation before too. Of you can't
ignore the spillover that happens, the economic impact that even
the Bengels during this season will bring to the Tri
state area. Detroit a few weeks ago, right, even if
they weren't Bengals fans, there were Detroit fans every We
were in Newport and Covington that day. They were everywhere,
(01:02:47):
staying in hotel rooms, flying in, driving in, filling up
their guest tanks here in Cincinnati, eating, going to all
the bars, all those places, right, and so that economic
impact spillover does packed our economy locally for the positive.
I know lots of people who same thing. They're like,
I don't care about the Bengals. Why am I paying
(01:03:08):
this tax? I would argue, And maybe this is kind
of where you've evolved over the years, and you're thinking,
we still all benefit from the economic impact of the
Bengals franchise of having the Cincinnati Reds here. You move
them to a different market and it has an undeniable
impact on our economy.
Speaker 1 (01:03:27):
My my change, my thinking change when the Bengals went
to the Super Bowl, because I felt like that the
branding of Cincinnati was important, right, the story of Cincinnati
being told nationally was important, and that happened on the
on the tails of the Bengals. With baseball, like baseball
is different, right With football, it's it's direct revenue sharing.
(01:03:47):
Most of all the revenue gets thrown into the exact
same pot. It's it's not quite the same in Major
League Baseball. And so what do you say to the
Reds fan who's like, look, all right, the Bob Casteline,
he bought the team and paid like two hundred and
eighty million. The French itself is worth one point five
and yet we still have, you know, we're still on
the lower rank, the lower rung of what teams pay
for players. They have one point five billion dollars in worth,
(01:04:10):
So why can't they Why can't they double what they're
spending on players? What do you say to that thing?
Speaker 19 (01:04:15):
Well, and I think there's a percentage of money that's
available right for these payrolls. I mean, we can go
back to the fact that the Dodgers have their payrolls
five times more what the Reds have, but also the
team valuation, the team is worth so much more.
Speaker 20 (01:04:32):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 19 (01:04:33):
I don't know how we got kind of the bad
end the deal here in Cincinnati, But I mean when
you look at the rankings, of course, you know, across
MLB and NFL teams, we're at the bottom of the
barrel for both. We're smaller market, but there's also other
probably comparably sized markets that are doing somewhat better than
Cincinnati is in these rankings, you know, And I think
(01:04:54):
you can look at the dollar amount and say why
can't we spend more? But I think you also have
to look at where we're ranked on that list and saying, Okay,
if the Dodgers are spending you know, five hundred million
or whatever that number is, and we're at a one
hundred and twenty eight every year, what's the difference.
Speaker 20 (01:05:11):
Well, they have more money. I mean, they just have
more money.
Speaker 19 (01:05:14):
And so I don't think you can look at that
bottom line number and say that's a lot of money.
Speaker 20 (01:05:17):
We should be spending more, you know.
Speaker 19 (01:05:20):
And I don't know what their margins are, you know,
I don't know anything like that necessarily. But unfortunately we're
at the bottom of the barrel in booklets.
Speaker 1 (01:05:28):
And that's the thing like pro sports teams don't have
to open up their books, which makes it, I think,
from a fan perspective, doubly frustrating. Let's talk about this
is what's interesting to me. You're a Kentucky fan, but
your favorite college football players Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza. And
it doesn't have much to do with his play on
the field.
Speaker 19 (01:05:44):
Yeah, I mean, never what I have ever thought I
would be talking about a Hoosier in such great like
But you know, you and I have talked before about
the fact that the average career span of an NFL
player is three point three years, and we've even seen
stats that say, like, hey, you know, so a few
years removed from the league, many of them have nothing
to show for the fact that they made millions and
(01:06:06):
millions of dollars. So their quarterback, Fernando Mendoza, this kid
is insanely smart. He went to cal and got into
a really impressive business school there, and as the story goes,
he would go to practice from five thirty to ten
thirty every morning and then drive across town to an
internship all day long and a really impressive investment bank
(01:06:28):
plays and then come back to the stadium and do
all the cold plunging and you know, watching reels, watching
game tape videos, and so his whole life has been
both football and also academics at the highest level. And
when I worry about often, right, these players and how
they're going to react to these insane incomes that they're making,
(01:06:52):
this is someone who has the business acumen, the financial
background to make sure that he's fine. In fact, like
quick story, so when he announced that he was leaving
from Cow to come to IU for grad school. Cal
was like, well, you were on a full ride scholarship,
but you've got to pay for these classes while you're here.
This last semester he used nil money that he was
going to get right a lot more from IU.
Speaker 20 (01:07:13):
To help pay for that.
Speaker 19 (01:07:14):
But also his dad had a conversation with him about, Hey,
this nil money that you're getting feels like a lot
right now you are like front and center IU.
Speaker 20 (01:07:23):
There are tax implications to that.
Speaker 19 (01:07:25):
And we've also had conversations about our concerns that we
have now kids eighteen nineteen year old running around making
forty thousand or one hundred thousand where they never would before,
and maybe they don't have the backgrounds, you know, the
business classes that the personal finance classes to know how
to deal with that. So I just think it's great
to highlight someone who let's watch this kid.
Speaker 20 (01:07:48):
He's probably going to go pretty high up.
Speaker 19 (01:07:51):
In the draft in the NFL, and he's probably going
to make some insanely smart decisions that may not only
set up just his family, but we can talk about
generational wealth. Right when you start making smart decisions, when
that first paycheck comes in, that's not only changing you
and your children, that's your children's children, and that's really
understanding how these concepts work together.
Speaker 1 (01:08:11):
Fernando Mendoza quarterback of the third RDE team in the country.
But you don't see many of these guys profiled in
the Wall Street Journal. Yeah, you brought this into me.
He's profiled as the finance nerd who might be college
football's next great quarterbacks. So check that out. Business school
grad who's been an intern at an investment firm's I
have not seen his LinkedIn profile, but apparently he's like,
(01:08:33):
after all, only.
Speaker 20 (01:08:34):
Social media that he has.
Speaker 19 (01:08:36):
You think about the hype that so many of these
players have on their social media accounts right their Instagram,
their tiktoks, the or whatever.
Speaker 7 (01:08:42):
I mean.
Speaker 19 (01:08:43):
He is so laser focused on his academics and his
career that that's the only social media he has.
Speaker 20 (01:08:48):
And by the way, most efficient passer and major college
football right now. So it's like he is equally successful.
Speaker 19 (01:08:55):
Rarely does anyone kind of reach that altitude on either
academics or athletics. He's reached it in both places, you know,
and I'm happy to cheer for Hoosier who's in that
kind of place.
Speaker 1 (01:09:06):
Yeah, I'm with you. I think it's fun that Indiana's
good and now a quarterback who's easy to root for.

Yes, yes, there is hope.
Speaker 3 (01:10:23):
There is hope. There is always hope.
Speaker 22 (01:10:26):
And many still got more than half the fantasy than
left right, especially in league, we're half half the team's naked.
Speaker 3 (01:10:32):
You're still in that.
Speaker 1 (01:10:33):
Still, I'm still there, glimmer of hope. I'm clinging to it.
Maybe you can provide some more. Uh, all right, So
we're we're six weeks into this, it's week seven. Folks
are looking for, you know, possible trade targets. Guys like
that give me some possibilities.
Speaker 22 (01:10:50):
Yeah, I mean, obviously value is always in the eye
to be older, so all these things are different. But
you want to try to find players with ump side.
But maybe they're not really having so much right now,
sort of that by low mentality, or maybe buy before
they get a higher mentality in the case.
Speaker 10 (01:11:05):
Of something he's got. So let's take quarterback.
Speaker 22 (01:11:07):
I like Jackson guard there, I mean the rookie.
Speaker 10 (01:11:10):
He's passing the eyeballs.
Speaker 22 (01:11:12):
Oh, and I can I help think what he'll be
doing the league. Neighbors was still in the lineup, but
nonetheless because you're rushing for the big playability that's gonna
lead us a big scoring week.
Speaker 3 (01:11:21):
I mean, I'm hard pressed the name Twolke quarterbacks. I
like vettering in fantasy and the rest.
Speaker 10 (01:11:24):
Of the season.
Speaker 3 (01:11:25):
So does that make you the starter?
Speaker 10 (01:11:26):
I believe so.
Speaker 3 (01:11:27):
Kenneth Walker is a third.
Speaker 22 (01:11:28):
He's by running back to target fifty fifty splitty salmon
right now with Zach Sharvione is definitely a little bit frustrating.
Sharbone played fourteen more snatching him against the Jags last week, but.
Speaker 3 (01:11:39):
A broally boiled Towns had had success rate.
Speaker 22 (01:11:41):
Forty two success rate per Pro Football Focus for Kenneth
Walker when he runs the ball to.
Speaker 3 (01:11:46):
Just thirty two success right.
Speaker 22 (01:11:47):
There, he's had a running back. I think he's gonna
have a bigger second half.
Speaker 10 (01:11:50):
Now some time to buy.
Speaker 22 (01:11:51):
A low Jefon Diggs, he looked pretty good and took
him a little slow time to get started in his
first little coming backers in thc of injury.
Speaker 3 (01:11:59):
But with the way that all defensive looking Drake may.
Speaker 22 (01:12:01):
On fire three to twenty eight for last week, had
a couple of receivers there have big games.
Speaker 3 (01:12:06):
I think this could be the last chance to buy
a low on.
Speaker 22 (01:12:08):
Diggs, who I view as the potential top twenty receiver
down the stretch.
Speaker 10 (01:12:12):
And brock Powers.
Speaker 3 (01:12:12):
You know, we always like to pick on the injured guys.
Speaker 22 (01:12:14):
I think it's a few weeks before he comes back,
so you're gonna have to be patient here.
Speaker 10 (01:12:18):
But chances are his owners.
Speaker 22 (01:12:20):
Don't have a very good record. They might be willing
to selling for Penning's on the dollars. And I'm still
a believer in the second half, this guy is going
to be a tight end.
Speaker 10 (01:12:26):
As the league winner.
Speaker 1 (01:12:28):
All right, Well, you mentioned an injured player, so let's
run through the more notable Week seven injuries.
Speaker 11 (01:12:35):
Yeah, well, I.
Speaker 22 (01:12:36):
Mean every week now we lose another stud receiver. Last
week's in addition, the best of all the guy we
talked up last week about being the eurocheason here, made Jinks.
I don't know, but Phukinakua multiple week injury here with
an ankle injury, a pretty severe one there.
Speaker 3 (01:12:51):
I don't expect any play this week.
Speaker 10 (01:12:52):
We'll see demonte I.
Speaker 22 (01:12:53):
I'm sure they have a lot.
Speaker 10 (01:12:54):
Of targets on him his way.
Speaker 22 (01:12:56):
Meanwhile, Amiko Kabuka, one of my favorite rookie breakout players,
also added to the injury list. You're joining pretty much
the entire Tampa Bay Bucks team because Tucky Irving, Mike Evans,
Chris Godwin, they're all still a.
Speaker 3 (01:13:06):
Little hobbled here. We're going to have to track this
one all the way after kickoff.
Speaker 22 (01:13:10):
But certainly not good news there for managers counting on
any of them. Marvin Harrison Junior didn't have the return.
He was open and even his dad played as a kid.
He's to staying a concussion. He is in concussion proto
call and looking tis for this week there. Jarrett Wilson's
going to miss a couple of weeks for the judges
offense most terribly whipping or even worse with doubt him,
(01:13:32):
so you know he's out of service.
Speaker 3 (01:13:33):
DJ Moore, We're going to.
Speaker 10 (01:13:34):
See what's up.
Speaker 22 (01:13:35):
He was hospitalized after Monday night. Didn't get a lot
of information on that yet. Listed with the growing issue,
Juvin Ridley with the answering, Ricky Piersoll with the knee.
Like I said, the wide out injuries are really really.
Speaker 10 (01:13:46):
Piling up at tight end. It's a little bit better
than he is there.
Speaker 3 (01:13:49):
George K.
Speaker 22 (01:13:50):
Diners, he's going to be a limited participant today if
he doesn't stuff for any setbacks this week. He could
return and likely will return here a week seven Dolf King,
Katie's and concussion profile of the mentioned bowers out a
couple of weeks with the the issue and.
Speaker 3 (01:14:02):
Then quarterback Tyler Murray.
Speaker 22 (01:14:04):
They might sitting again, especially as well as Jakoby Prisett
played last week and their quarterback he's been with the
foot issue in brock Berdy, like George Kittle, a limited
participant slated for today. We'll see how would go if
not Pac Jones another week under center.
Speaker 1 (01:14:17):
For the Dan Glaskins is with US host of Fantastics
Insider Football on Sirius XM Fantasy Give me your weekly studs,
duds and sleepers.
Speaker 3 (01:14:27):
Yeah, well, hit it on it at the top here,
but really.
Speaker 22 (01:14:31):
Love in the way Drake May's playing some football right now.
The second year quarterbacks matchup first the Titans this week.
I knew he had the rushing outside of the twenty
three yards per game, but it's man, it's been real
nice to see what he's done through the air. He's
cost multiple touchdowns and four of his last five and
nine to one TV ratio and that stretch I looked
for multiple scores again this week, another solid day, top
(01:14:52):
five play a quarterback. One of my studs of the
week has to be Roshi Wright.
Speaker 3 (01:14:56):
Pretty excited.
Speaker 22 (01:14:57):
I'm sure you are if you got him stashed on.
Speaker 3 (01:14:59):
Your business game. Suspension's over.
Speaker 22 (01:15:02):
I look for them to immediately get him involved in
this offense.
Speaker 3 (01:15:06):
And Patrick Mahomes chomping.
Speaker 22 (01:15:08):
At the bid to take out his Ferrari out of
the garage here and they get a Raiders team giving
up the six month chanashion points.
Speaker 3 (01:15:15):
Why I got even wide receiver aid right out of
the gate. So I'm feeling pretty bolish on.
Speaker 10 (01:15:20):
The Dutch side.
Speaker 22 (01:15:21):
Can't feel it strongly about Alvin Kamara. He hasn't scored
since Weak one. He's only at fifteen PPR points one
all season. He's even scored double.
Speaker 10 (01:15:29):
He hasn't even got the double digits. I said they
in two of his last four games.
Speaker 22 (01:15:33):
So he's can that face a touchdown against what I
think is an improving Bears defense to Kuby Meyers, another guy,
he's taken a sheet this week for me.
Speaker 3 (01:15:41):
I like him coming end of the season.
Speaker 10 (01:15:42):
But hasn't come to fruition.
Speaker 22 (01:15:44):
He's been below ten PPR points and each to the
last four games, and after starting the season with thirty
and twenty percent target shares.
Speaker 3 (01:15:51):
He ben below the twenty.
Speaker 10 (01:15:52):
Percent market and target share and eats in the last four.
Speaker 22 (01:15:55):
He's on the bench and a couple of deeper sleepers
here now because people need to sleep out there and perhaps.
Speaker 14 (01:16:02):
Some waiver wires.
Speaker 22 (01:16:02):
Canada Chairman Tys spears for the New in or excuse me,
for Tennessee Titans playing New England this week. Heel Stanttony
Howard thirty six and twenty six against the Raiders last week,
ran twice as many routes. I think they're coming from behind.
I think he's in HARDV three flex play this.
Speaker 3 (01:16:19):
Week and Michael Mayer the Covington camp a love man.
Speaker 17 (01:16:24):
He looked good last.
Speaker 22 (01:16:25):
Week, scoring that touchdown with Brod Bowery down a couple
more weeks. We saw a thirty two percent target share
last week for at Tennessee, he ran around on eighty
percent of the passes. I got him a tight end
twelve this week. I think he's a sneaky play.
Speaker 17 (01:16:37):
Versus the Chiefs.
Speaker 1 (01:16:39):
Michael Mayer, cuv Cath I root like hell for him.
Hope it continues to work out. Let's talk about something happening.
I think it's three three weeks from Saturday the DAV
five cap.
Speaker 22 (01:16:50):
Yeah, it's coming right up on us and I appreciate that. Yeah,

It's her birthday today.
Speaker 9 (01:17:52):
Oh what a better way to spend.
Speaker 1 (01:17:58):
Well, Happy birthday to Kelly, and I hope to this
isn't the highlight of her birthday. All right, there you go,
You're the best.
Speaker 3 (01:18:05):
I enjoyed a game.

Speaker 8 (01:18:23):
Well this week it's Taylor versus Tumblin on Thursday Night Football.
The Bengals look to toss the Steelers into the recycling bin.
There's a lot I can say about Pittsburgh, but none
of it can be set on the radio. The Bengals
slugging out with the Steelers tomorrow.
Speaker 9 (01:18:40):
Coverage begins at three pm.
Speaker 8 (01:18:42):
Stream for free on the new and improved iHeartRadio app
or ESPN fifteen thirty, the official home of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 1 (01:18:52):
It is the badly needed bud Light five o'clock Happy
Hour on ESPN fifteen thirty thanks, Like.
Speaker 15 (01:19:03):
I have.
Speaker 1 (01:19:05):
Nothing to do tonight Game three ALCS, I'm gonna enjoy
a few ice cold blood lights. We're gonna enjoy this.
How we have a lot to get to. We have
a lot to get to, our buddy Andrew Philipponi ninety
three to seven the fan in Pittsburgh in just a
few minutes, on the Steelers who are here tomorrow, Richard
(01:19:25):
Skinner plus the folks making what I think looks like
an absolutely awesome film coming up in just about thirty minutes,
and the head golf coach at XU as well. There's
a lot between now in six Bengals game plan when
we're done at six o'clock, with Dan Horde and Dave
Lapham certainly looking forward to that, I think this would
(01:19:46):
be your news of the day and you could do
what you want with it. But the Bengals are not
ruling out Trey Hendrickson tomorrow listed as questionable on the
injury report. Now, obviously, Mi Kasicki was put on IR
today known since Monday he ain't gonna play for a while.
Tanner Hudson has been ruled out still in concussion protocol.
(01:20:07):
Charlie Jones questionable with that rib issue. Lucas Patrick, who's
still on IR, is listed as questionable as well, but
they're at least as of today the day before the game,
not ruling out Trey Hendrickson. Now, this certainly doesn't guarantee
that he will play. If he does play, he may
be on some sort of snap count. The expectation is
Shamar Stewart's gonna play. We will see. But I think
(01:20:31):
relative to how a lot of us felt yesterday where
it kind of felt like this is trending toward maybe
Trey being inactive, they haven't ruled about. So there you go.
Bengals and Steelers tomorrow, by the way, tomorrow, and I
think this is the first time we've done this. Of course,
excuse excuse me. We're gonna do a simulcast, so you're
(01:20:51):
gonna hear me and Lance and Rocky together before the
Bengals game tomorrow, three o'clock at the Holy Grail. Join us.
It's gonna be absolutely awesome. Richard Skinner is awesome. He's
gonna to join us, coming up in just about fifteen minutes.
I spend some time. We've been really busy today with
guess I spent some time at the top of the
show talking about what Day've done with Logan Wilson. Logan
Wilson has meant a lot to the Bengals. Logan Wilson,
(01:21:13):
the way he has handled his benching publicly and by
all accounts, the way he has handled it privately is admirable.
I don't think Logan has played terribly. I would stop
short of saying that Logan has played great. I can
get behind, though, the Bengals doing something that's kind of
(01:21:34):
Unbengal like, which is, you know, we know what Logan
Wilson is. He's reliable, he's steady, he's continuity, those things
that the Bengals value, maybe more than any other. But
you know what, maybe there's more upside with Barrett Carter.
Our defense stinks. There's only so many areas where we
(01:21:54):
have another option, So we're gonna try it here. If
it doesn't work, okay, Hey, can the Bengals defense really
get any worse? If it does work, cool, then you
feel better about a guy you used a draft pick on.
Speaker 10 (01:22:09):
So we will see.
Speaker 1 (01:22:11):
Let's talk Steelers with a guy we get on the
show every time the Bengals play the Steelers. Andrew Philipponi
ninety three to seven fan in Pittsburgh. Let's start with this,
how would you encapsulate the Aaron Rodgers experience? So far.
Speaker 21 (01:22:24):
Way better than I thought it would go. I have
enjoyed it almost from the second, actually, from the very
beginning MO his first game against the Jets, his old team.
Four touchdowns in that game, Steelers put up more than
thirty points. It was like we rediscovered what watching competent
(01:22:45):
quarterback play was like in that game after being in
the wilderness for about a half decade post Ben and really, look,
they've not been stay a dynamic, high octane offense or
anything like that, but we do see in almost every game,
(01:23:07):
whether it's with his arm talent, with his mind, his
football brain, some combination of both, we still see hints
and clues that he's got that old Aaron Rodgers, four
time MVP in him. And it doesn't come out consistently
(01:23:28):
over fifty offensive plays per se, but he has been
a breath of fresh air for the Steelers moment. If
I had to choose right now, I would say bring
him back next year and run it back with him.
At forty two years.
Speaker 1 (01:23:43):
Old, he's completed a ton of his passes they don't
go very far. Is that going to be the Moll
season longer? Do they hope to build upon that?
Speaker 21 (01:23:54):
Well, they definitely hope to build upon that. I think
there's a few things in play here. The offensive line
was wretched at the beginning of the year.
Speaker 11 (01:24:00):
It was terrible.
Speaker 21 (01:24:01):
It looked like the Bengals offensive line for the first
few weeks. And he was getting hit a lot. Not
a ton of sacks, but was getting hit a lot.
I had to get the ball out quickly to survive.
And the offense was I think schemed and designed to
cover up for their offensive line deficiencies. They couldn't run
the ball in those first few games either. Now, I
(01:24:23):
do think talking about his arm, we saw it a
couple times against the Browns on Sunday. He's just not
as accurate on the deep ball as he used to be.
Speaker 10 (01:24:32):
I mean, there are a few deep.
Speaker 21 (01:24:33):
Ball throwers that have been better than him historically. I
don't think we see that. I think that's probably one
area where his game has regressed at this age. And
you know, they needed to make a decision. They decided
because their run game, like I said, was so lacking
that the last two games here against the Vikings and
(01:24:55):
against the Browns, they have gone with this jumbo package,
big package of the sixth offensive linemen and Darnell Wantington,
who's the biggest guy on the team. They're tight end,
and they have installed both of those guys into their offense.
And they've run for over one hundred yards in the
last two games, and their offenses function much better in general.
So they have for now they have put kind of
(01:25:19):
Aaron Rodgers downfield, Aaron Rodgers gunslinger that's on the back burner,
and their biggest point of emphasis is running the ball
with those big guys.
Speaker 1 (01:25:27):
Andrew Philipponi with us from Pittsburgh ninety three to seven
The Fan. You ran a Twitter poll it just expired,
asking Steelers fans are you worried about Joe Flacco? Twitter
poles are never fifty to fifty. This is literally fifty
to fifty Half the Steelers fans over twenty three hundred
votes say they're worried about Joe Flacco. Should they be?
Speaker 21 (01:25:48):
I don't think so, because it's not Joe Flacco in
a vacuum. It's not Joe Flacco. Last year off the
bench against the Steelers in Indianapolis, when they had prepped
all week for Anthony Richardson, a mobile quarterback with a
good offensive line, Jonathan Taylor, and wide receivers that could
beat you. Not anywhere close to as good as Cincinnati,
(01:26:09):
but still decent players. This is Joe Flacco with probably
the worst rushing attack in NFL history and an offensive
line that is very subpar, and I think those ingredients
make the matchup much different. I also think that Steelers
defense in the year plus in the thirteen months since
(01:26:31):
they last saw Joe Flacco, has actually gotten substantially better.
You've got Derek Harmon up front, a rookie who since
he returned from knee injury, has been outstanding. Nick Herbig,
their third edge rusher from Wisconsin, has been a star,
really a guy that's gotten to a level now where
I don't think they can keep him off the field anymore.
(01:26:53):
He's just been that much of a disruptive player. And
Jalen Ramsey from Miami in that trade they made send
Minka there has been I would say the Rams version
of Jalen Ramsey, the guy that helped them win a
Super Bowl, playing safety, playing flat corner, playing outside corner.
Had two sacks in the game against Cleveland more than
(01:27:14):
milescare and TJ.
Speaker 10 (01:27:15):
Watt combined.
Speaker 21 (01:27:16):
So their defense right now looks like the real deal.
And I think that that's going to present problems for
Joe Flacco.
Speaker 1 (01:27:22):
Yeah, I fear that you're right. I hope you're wrong.
Andrew Philipponi ninety three to seven The Fan in Pittsburgh.
Awesome stuff. I know you have to get back on
the air. Bengals and Steelers tomorrow kickoff eight fifteen pregame
coverage from the Grail with Lance Rocky and myself at
three h five. We are looking forward to that Richard
Skinner in just a few minutes. We've eaten well today
(01:27:43):
thanks to our friends at Skyline. If you haven't tried
the new chicken chili yet, what are you waiting for?
It's like the same legendary Skyline taste that you know
I love, and that you know and love accept. It's
a new protein option, I think, and this is just me.
I think it's a tag spicy and I ran this
pass like a chef who kind of explained why that
(01:28:06):
the beef when it's the beef chili, it absorbs more
of the spice. The chicken not so much. So I
think it's a little bit spicier. Regardless, you got to
try and try the Skyline Chicken Chili on your waist
Cony's and all your Skyline favorites. It also goes great
on chili cheese fries or a Skyline chiledo Skyline burrito.
I've put to put down a three way here. The
(01:28:27):
new Skyline Chicken Chili is available at participating Skyline locations.
We obviously love the folks at Skyline. We love Richard Skinner.
He joins us to talk Flackomania, which I think I'm
the first person to call it that, so I get
copyright when Sincy Shirts makes a shirt next on ESPN fifteen.

Speaker 17 (01:29:47):
Skinny, Hey Moe, how are you?
Speaker 2 (01:29:50):
I have?
Speaker 1 (01:29:51):
I've really never been better? How about yourself?
Speaker 14 (01:29:54):
I think I'm the same.
Speaker 1 (01:29:55):
It's Trey Hendrickson gonna play.
Speaker 14 (01:29:58):
I don't know, man, it is.
Speaker 13 (01:30:00):
It was left very vague on Monday.
Speaker 14 (01:30:02):
I kind of expect, honestly, the way he walked off,
and you know, you're ruled out at halftime of a game.
Turn around playgan on Thursday usually doesn't take place. Initially,
it was his back today on the official report, it
was his hip and so I'm gonna guess this will
be Let's see what he looks like in pregame. You know,
if you could get fifteen to twenty snaps out of
(01:30:23):
in situational maybe it comes to that. So yeah, I mean,
the fact they didn't rule him out certainly gives you
a chance to put him in some level of a role,
but nowhere near. You know, he only plays about seventy
five percent of STAPs, Sandy, we probably not even.
Speaker 17 (01:30:36):
Close to that if he goes at all.
Speaker 1 (01:30:38):
I'm not upset that they're benching Logan Wilson in favor
of Barrett Carter, because you know what, this is a
league where draft picks have to give you something as
soon as possible. Logan Wilson might not have been playing poorly,
but it's not like he was rewriting history at the
linebacker position. And it feels like he is handling this well,
I'm okay with this? Should I be?
Speaker 21 (01:31:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 14 (01:31:01):
And I'll be honest with you. You know, our friend
Paul Danner Junior does a preseason podcast that did it
at Tom's watch Bar, and he asked us all to
you know, buy and sell a player, And I said,
you know, sadly, I'm selling Logan Wilson. They wouldn't shock
me by week six if he's not a starter any longer.
And it and it came into fruition. You know. The
weird prot wasmo I thought I was eating my words.
Is the way he played in Week one in Cleveland.
(01:31:22):
I thought he played really well. You know that was
even after he went off with You know, they have
a concussion protocol to be evaluated for one and it's
just I mean, I blurted out in the Denver press
box on one run. I don't know why I yelled
it so loud, but I did. It was blank blank
logan take a better angle, and it just it's just
not wor. It just wasn't working any longer. And I
do think to that point that that they needed a spark.
(01:31:44):
They needed something different. Now, something different also looks like
you look like on the Josh Jacobs touchdown run where
Demetrius Knight goes to one sea gap and Comparett Carter
goes to the other sea gap and nobody's in the
middle of the field. You can let that happen once
or twice because they're rookies, but you can't have that
happen much more. But I'm with you. It gives you
more athleticism. It just gives you something different, and I
(01:32:05):
think they need anything different at this point. On that
side of the ball.
Speaker 1 (01:32:08):
I have spent his entire NFL career feeling nothing when
it came to Joe Flacco. Appreciate the longevity. Appreciate what
he's done. It's hard to play that long in the league.
He's kind of bounced around. On Friday, I became a
fan because I just saw somebody who appreciated the absurdity
of the situation that he's in and you know it
is going to make the most of it. And as
that game went forward on Sunday, he did, I'm team
(01:32:31):
Joe Flacco, Skinny no man.
Speaker 14 (01:32:34):
After the game, I wrote a column of you know,
the competence of quarterback now has given you some legitimate
reason for hope in turning things around now. I also
cited the defense needing to step forward too, and that's
a big step they have to take at this point.
I'm not fully confident in that, but yeah, you know
what they did from the last drive of the first
half on was was him starting to feel all right,
(01:32:56):
let me just take this easy completion here for eight
yards and let me start to trust where Jamar is
going to be in t's one. If it's one thing
to know what they are he knows what they are,
he knows how good they are. But he had twelve
practice reps of Jamar Chase before that game. So even
though you believe in trust, he's gonna be where I
need the ball to go. So you see it happen,
you really don't probably fully have that trust, and then
(01:33:17):
you see it happen and you go, huh. I mean
he even made a point of one coming to the
sideline one point Tony Jake Bronning. I mean, like these
guys snatch the ball. They don't just catch it, they
snatch it. And he said, you know, I made a
bad throat at Jamal on one thing and he just
puked it out of the air. And so I think
that's the thing. You saw that report take place, you know,
eighty and Jamar had twelve with or fifteen catches in
the second half. I don't think that's the coincidence. I
(01:33:38):
think it's Joe Flacco realizing, all right, here's what I
got to work with, and then when the coverage dictated
goes somewhere else. Oh, here's an eight yard checkdown to
this guy or a seven yard pass to this tight end.
And I think they found something there. They found some
of the things he does well. I'm sure they found
some things he didn't do so well. And now this week,
instead of having a game plan in before he even
showed up, you've got a game plan hopefully tailored more
(01:33:59):
toward him.
Speaker 1 (01:34:00):
Yeah, there has been this like surge of optimism through
the fan base, and I don't want to temper it.
Speaker 22 (01:34:07):
Now.
Speaker 1 (01:34:07):
I don't know how they're going to run the ball.
I don't know if the offensive line play we saw
in the second half is going to hold up. But
they at least planted some seeds for success. And now
you know, the difference between three and four and two
and five seems absolutely massive.
Speaker 14 (01:34:22):
Well, and that's just it. I mean to your point
that the seeds of hope are there, but you now
have to go pay that hope off with this win.
You know, we thow must win games around all the time,
like this is a must win game, but this is
it's really few.
Speaker 10 (01:34:36):
It is for this reason.
Speaker 14 (01:34:37):
Mo. You're not mathematically eliminating, you're not out of anything.
But you came off four losses, three of which were ugly,
and the last one where you got a glimmer of hope,
and you think, okay, come home and win these three
games at home, get the five and four to buy
and off we go. Well, you got to win to
do that, and so that's why I think this is
a must win game two and five. The math comes.
Speaker 17 (01:34:56):
It's hard, man.
Speaker 14 (01:34:57):
You're now four games in the lost column behind you know,
you're in a muddle group of the rest of the AFC.
And even at that point, if you lose to go
to two and five and it's five straight losses, I
think then you're just left with a bad football team.
And I don't think that. I don't think there's any
other conclusion you can make. So this to me is
a must win for all of those reasons.
Speaker 1 (01:35:14):
Awesome stuff has always enjoyed the game tomorrow. Thank you

can't wait to see it in its final form. The
folks who are making it join me in studio next.

(01:38:42):
I don't have any white Bengals gear, so I'll be
the guy who gets laughed at for wearing like a
UC hoodie orself maybe like a white dresser. And I
have no idea. We will see, but we're on at
the Grail starting at three oh five. Bengals game plan
on as soon as we're done. Dan Horde, Dave Lapham
right here on ESPN fifteen thirty. Not a ton of
other stuff going on. Game three American League Championship Series
(01:39:03):
in Seattle. Mariners up two to oh on the Blue Jays.
The National League Championship Series off Game three tomorrow, the
Dodgers up two oh in that one. Las starting pitching
the first two nights has been unbelievable. Whether you went
to Miami University or not, I think you're gonna love this.
Cradle of Coaches is a documentary that is being produced
(01:39:23):
by Resolve and it celebrates Miami's football history and if
you know anything about college football in this area, you
are familiar with all the figures whose coaching careers included
stops successful stops in some way, shape or form at Miami,
at Miami University. And the last trailer for this project
that I saw came out in late July and it
(01:39:45):
looks awesome, and so I wanted to have in studio
to talk about the project, which I cannot wait for.
Scott Thompson and Jesse Herron from Resolve. It's nice to
have you, folks. How are we doing good? You you
brought cigars. I'm great.
Speaker 7 (01:40:00):
And allying you in jersey tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (01:40:03):
Yes, yes, you're gonna buy me a light jersey tomorrow.
That's gonna be that's gonna be terrific. How are we doing?
Speaker 4 (01:40:08):
Love and life? Yeah, love in Miami.
Speaker 1 (01:40:10):
This is big, this huge, this is good. This is
the sort of of project and it looks awesome that
quite frankly, I can't believe hasn't already been done.
Speaker 23 (01:40:20):
We've heard that quite a few times. Actually, I think
it's kind of amazing that it hasn't been done before.
People have talked about, Oh, I wanted to do this project,
but it really came from passion with Alicia Lipton, our
client at Miami University. I think it also stems from
the fact that, you know, she is the niece of
Ara Parsigan, so there's that connection there. He's one of
(01:40:41):
the statues of the ten Statues, and then President Crawford,
Greg Crawford, he you know, he has a connection to
the statues, and he also has a connection with Notre Dame.
Speaker 7 (01:40:51):
So it's a natural fit.
Speaker 17 (01:40:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:40:53):
You've gotten like who's who, not just of Miami football,
but of of the football world to participate in this project.
Speaker 24 (01:41:01):
And we still have probably three more travel shoots that
we have to do. Next week, we're going to Connecticut
to interview Chris Berman. Wow, people are saying why Chris Berman,
that's really weird. Well, karm Koza is one of the coaches.
One of the statues. Karen was at Yale for those years.
Chris was friends with him, being through Yale a lot
(01:41:21):
of Connecticut connections.
Speaker 4 (01:41:23):
I'm going to.
Speaker 24 (01:41:23):
Interview two of the players that played for Karen, and
then we're heading to LSU and then Button Rouge for
Paul Ditel Oh wow, and doing a couple of guys
down there. But I mean, it's the people that we've
been able to access every time. And Jesse can speak
to this too because she's producing. This is the access
has always been, like, you know, we'll call the Rams,
we'll call the Ravens and they'll say, you know, hey,
(01:41:46):
Sean McVay, you can have them for twenty minutes, and
we say we need ninety we need an hour and
a half. And they laughed at us. They do they laugh, yeah, yeah.
And then we say, okay, well tell Sean it's from Miami.
And then we get a call back and said, okay,
when you guys gonna be here, gonna have all day
with them.
Speaker 10 (01:42:02):
Wow.
Speaker 24 (01:42:02):
These guys just they love Miami so much. That and
the same with Harball. Harboy sat down and was like,
I'm here all day for you guys. What are you
real It's just chat for hours. Yeah, they just love it.
Speaker 23 (01:42:11):
And he sang the fight song, which I think is
probably one of my favorite moments behind the scenes moments,
is he just sat down and we started talking. We
brought up the fight song and he just started singing
it the full fight song.
Speaker 1 (01:42:22):
That's pretty cool. Yeah, is spending all that time with
you guys, why he like hasn't fixed his defense? No
fair or months ago, he might have a lot of time.
Speaker 17 (01:42:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 24 (01:42:37):
I see these headlines and are like, well, zach Orr
is on the chopping block. I'm like, no, please, let's waite.
Speaker 1 (01:42:42):
This is so like we we know the figures, right,
we know that all the figures the Cradle of Coaches.
Well but that but that was going to be my thing.
I think a lot of us have surface level knowledge,
but then you do a deep dive and I'm sure
that that's what the documentary is going to do, but
give us some things that maybe going into this you're like, wow,
I didn't know that.
Speaker 24 (01:42:59):
I think it's a guy. Well, look, I'm not from
here originally, but I lived here twenty six years.
Speaker 1 (01:43:03):
This is home for me.
Speaker 24 (01:43:04):
But you know it's the names like Era. You know,
I think I think Paul Brown is Ohio. But then
when you think about like, well you think about Era
and you think. All I knew from Er was watching
Rudy and seeing Ara in that and it was like, wow,
this guy's But I wasn't a huge I'm not a
I'm not a I'm not a Catholic, so I didn't
grow up loving Notre Dame. And then but I knew
who this guy was. And then I hear and then like, oh,
(01:43:25):
this guy absolutely bled Miami. This guy was all Miami,
and I'm thinking, no, this, this guy's Notre Dame. And
my believing Miami takes ownership of ERA, and ERA has
a huge history, and then with the Northwestern and and
and Notre Dame. But really everything started at Miami. And
you look look at we View Bank and I didn't
really know much about Web but I knew that he
(01:43:46):
was coach of Super Bowl three, super Bowl three and
NFL champion, the greatest game ever played, and then you think, oh,
this is weep. We then moved back to Oxford, lived there,
had this old basement in the Houston. Players would come
behind the.
Speaker 23 (01:44:02):
Critique practices too, which I found to be really funny. Yeah,
they had like someone looking out for him, like when
his car was coming to practice. Yeah, and they would
like have somebody sound off an alarm or someone alert
like oh my god, he's coming, Like, don't run that
play because he's gonna critique it.
Speaker 1 (01:44:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 23 (01:44:19):
I also want to add, like, you know, one of
the coaches that I thought was really interesting is coach
John Pott. I mean he actually went to Japan and
helped really like create football in Japan, which I think
is so.
Speaker 7 (01:44:32):
Really cool too.
Speaker 4 (01:44:32):
I started the program a Joe Yeah, yeah, I.
Speaker 23 (01:44:36):
Mean there's so many of those little anecdotes that I
was like, oh, huh, came from Miami.
Speaker 7 (01:44:40):
That's really interesting.
Speaker 1 (01:44:41):
So the project is being produced as we speak, and
so when could we expect to see it? And where
can we expect to see it?
Speaker 18 (01:44:50):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (01:44:51):
Good question on the where that is to be determined.
Speaker 23 (01:44:54):
So we're having some really great conversations and you know
when we were we were talking about this a little
bit yesterday, right, So the question where could we maybe
see it on like Hulu or a Netflix or you know,
that's the goal. The goal is to have it on
a streaming platform and it should be coming out fall
of twenty twenty six. So that's the time frame I
think leading up to that, right, we've got different screenings
and things that are going to be coming through.
Speaker 7 (01:45:16):
I mean, we've had opportunities.
Speaker 23 (01:45:19):
So we talked with the one of the owners of
the Commanders, Mitch Rails, and he was like, yeah, of course, definitely,
let's have a screening here too.
Speaker 7 (01:45:25):
So the tentacles of this thing kind of spread out.
Speaker 23 (01:45:28):
It's not just the Cincinnati area because it did stem
from Miami University, but some of these people have obviously
gone on to the Raiders, the Dolphins, the Jaguars, wherever.
Speaker 7 (01:45:38):
So we've got a lot of tentacles in the NFL
and in college football.
Speaker 24 (01:45:41):
Yeah, Mitchrails is a Miami grad. Every time we there's
no roadblocks. Believe me, this is this project has been great.
But anytime we have a question, they go, oh, yeah,
well that guy, there's a Miami grad at NBC Sports,
there's a Miami grad at Netflix.
Speaker 4 (01:45:54):
We'll get you hooked up.
Speaker 17 (01:45:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 24 (01:45:55):
I'm like, you know, I've been working in this business
twenty six years. That doesn't happen, you know, normally you're like, oh, crap,
I got to call every gatekeeper to get to someone
and I don't know who that person is.
Speaker 16 (01:46:07):
No.
Speaker 4 (01:46:07):
Yah, doors are wide open because Miami.
Speaker 1 (01:46:09):
Yeah, that's that's pretty neat.
Speaker 4 (01:46:11):
We're relatively small school.
Speaker 1 (01:46:12):
No, you're sure, yeah, it's not. Uh you know when
you think of like broadcasting of the Syracuse right, massive,
Northeastern school huge, Yeah.
Speaker 24 (01:46:21):
Even Ohio you know they're they're state, well Ohio University
that you know, their big rival has scripts has this
huge you know, and you would think, oh, this would
be easy with with you know, someone like that now,
because it's it's all these through lines that we have
as leadership in at Miami. And it's not just football
leaders that you know, CEO of Starbucks currently Miami grad,
(01:46:41):
CEO of this company, CEO, the president of this company,
all Miami grads, right, So it's it's actually knock on wood,
it's been pretty easy to get into these doors.
Speaker 1 (01:46:50):
Yeah. You know, it's interesting I mentioned this to you
months or so ago. We we've had interactions with two
folks in media that I had no idea were Miami.
We had Terrence More in our show. Few weeks I
wrote a new book about the big red machine. You
talk about somebody who wears their Miami pride on their sleeve.
And then Clinton Yates ESPN, who's on our on our air.
(01:47:10):
We had him on our show and he just mentioned
it to me. I had no idea.
Speaker 4 (01:47:13):
Yeah, because they're so humble.
Speaker 1 (01:47:14):
That's what it is. Yea, they are.
Speaker 24 (01:47:16):
I know they're not boasting. And it's expectations too. Is
you know, I think when you think about all these
guys and you think about, oh well, Terrence Moore and Clinton,
all these guys, You're like, oh, well, you know, it's
they come from a big school. They come from Texas,
Penn State, Ohio State or whatever. Nope, right, that little
school up in Oxford.
Speaker 1 (01:47:32):
Yeah, And I think what'll be cool about this is
it's going to tell a football story, but it's gonna
tell a Miami story that isn't necessarily about football.
Speaker 4 (01:47:40):
And high school in Ohio.
Speaker 24 (01:47:42):
Sure, football and in high school in Ohio, because it
is we have a farm system here that other states
don't have. Florida and Texas are going to say yeah,
but at this point, I'm like, let's be the first
one to come out and boast about it. Because Ohio
and Miami aren't the ones that are saying we're the best,
We're the best, We're the best. Texas and Florida say
that all the time. Right, this is our chance to
get out there and say, no, football is invented here.
(01:48:04):
We own we owned football. Football belongs to us, absolutely,
that's right. So next fall follow twenty twenty six.
Speaker 1 (01:48:11):
Apparently by then I'll finish go through puberty fall of
twenty twenty six, right, and we'll be looking for it. Yeah.
Speaker 23 (01:48:19):
And in the meantime you can get you know, additional content,
sneak peaks, those kinds of things on the Instagram channel.
So it's the Cradle of Coaches Instagram. But you really
can google Cradle of Coaches documentary at this point and
find a ton of our content, which is awesome.
Speaker 4 (01:48:32):
And there it is.
Speaker 1 (01:48:34):
Wow, very cool. You've established a new precedent that all
in studio guests have to bring cigars a half box.
A half box. Yeah, we would stand, we would up
with one. That would have been fine. I am excited
to see this. I texted you out of the blue,
and normally if I'm texting you to needle you about something,
and I said, like that that documentary trailer which was
(01:48:56):
not the first one, right, looks there was a teaser. Yeah,
looks terrific and I genuinely can't wait to see this
and please keep us up to date on how things
are going. And of course if I can help, I
have no remote idea.
Speaker 7 (01:49:11):
A couple of doors that still need to be open.
I'll definitely be.
Speaker 1 (01:49:14):
Asking you about something, probably somebody I.
Speaker 7 (01:49:18):
Know I'm asking everybody about I can't get.
Speaker 1 (01:49:21):
Yeah, all right, Cradle of Coaches on Instagram or just
pretty much search it and folks can absolutely learn more
about it.
Speaker 7 (01:49:27):
Absolutely.
Speaker 23 (01:49:28):
There's going to be a Cradle of Coaches game at
miam University too, so that's kind of fun. That's coming
up in November.
Speaker 1 (01:49:33):
Wow, okaytion game Action game, yep, I do love some
action now.
Speaker 7 (01:49:38):
Yeah, number twelfth, Yeah, no.
Speaker 1 (01:49:42):
Question about it, guys, thank you so much, thank you. Yeah,
Jesse Herron, Scott Thompson, Resolve Cradle of Coaches. Look for it.
The teaser does it's going to make you like me,
just sit there and go, man, when's this going to
come out? So it's going to be a while, but
the way it will be worth it. It is sixteen
away from two o'clock. This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports.
Speaker 5 (01:50:03):
Station Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty Traffic.
Speaker 6 (01:50:09):
From the uc Health to Traffic Center. The uc healths
Women's Sports Medicine Program provides specialized care for female athletes
at all levels. Schedule and appointment online at UCHealth dot com.
A new accident in This is westbound on Ronald Reagan Highway.
It's on the off ramp to southbound seventy five. The
left lane blocked off on that ramp. Still got that
(01:50:31):
accident as well. On Clifton Avenue between Straight Street and
Martin Luther King Drive. Two to three minute delay getting
through there. I'm at ezelic with traffic this report. He
is sponsored Behin News.
Speaker 1 (01:50:42):
I'm six o'clock. This is ESPN fifteen thirty on Mowiger.
Thank you so much for listening today. Bengals game plan
coming up as soon as we're done at six o'clock.
I noticed this, and I'm gonna have to ask this
kid for lessons. Case Morgan from Elder to come medalists
on is that the Marine Intercollegiate, which was hosted by Miami,
(01:51:04):
posted a fifty four whole score of two oh four,
which is nine under becomes the first avior golfer to
hit nine under part better since Corey Ward did that
thirteen years ago at the Marshall Invite the golf coach.
The head golf coach men's golf coach at Xavier University
is Brian Arlinghouse. It's awesome to have you, coach. Good afternoon,
How are you good afternoon?
Speaker 10 (01:51:25):
Thanks for having me. Appreciate you.
Speaker 1 (01:51:26):
I appreciate you doing this. This, this sort of outing
is awesome. How rare is it for a freshman?
Speaker 25 (01:51:35):
It's pretty rare for a freshman, But I don't he
may be a freshman in the academic world, but in
the golf world, he's way mature, beyond beyond most freshmen
that I've ever been around.
Speaker 1 (01:51:47):
All Right, walk me through the recruitment of a kid
to become a high end, Big East level golfer.
Speaker 13 (01:51:56):
Yeah, different story with case.
Speaker 15 (01:52:00):
I was.
Speaker 25 (01:52:01):
I was kind of tipped off to him, maybe his
freshman year elder, long before I was able to make
contact with him. But then you start like following him
around and just trying to check check on his body language,
check on his preparation, try to feel.
Speaker 13 (01:52:14):
Out like the family.
Speaker 10 (01:52:17):
And as as as usual, you find you find.
Speaker 25 (01:52:20):
Really really good players, right, and you start the recruitment process,
and then there's part of you that wants them to
do well, and there's part of them, the part of
you that wants them to kind of not do as
well since not many other people start to follow him, right,
And he was a unique kid because I knew he
was going to get he was going to get really
really really good, really really quickly, and that's exactly what happened.
(01:52:43):
And there were a ton of ton of really really
big schools after him, and he ended up choosing Xavier.
Speaker 1 (01:52:51):
So, yeah, your team wins the Marine Intercollegiate. You've won
three tournament titles over the last few years, also posted
six top three finishes over the last two seasons. It
feels like you really have this program coming along.
Speaker 25 (01:53:05):
Yeah, thanks it we do. It's there's a good, good,
good core group of young men on this team. Everywhere
I've tried to just surround myself with good quality people
and that's kind of what we're about. And it's a
bunch of bunch of hard working guys that just believe
in each other. And I'm really really grateful and really
lucky and super blessed that they all trust me. They
(01:53:28):
trust the game plan that I put together. They believed
in the vision that I was telling them for the
program throughout the recruiting process, and this last week is
just one of the small little glimpses that you get into. Hey,
you're doing the right things. Things are moving into the
right direction. So we're really happy with the results.
Speaker 1 (01:53:47):
Dive into that vision for me and yeah, you're not
going to tell me the specific ins and outs. I
guess that you're going to outline for every recruit. But
but when you're sitting across from a kid trying to
get him to join him to join your program, what
are you telling them?
Speaker 25 (01:54:00):
Yeah, it's it's it's a it's a lot of probably
what a lot of other coaches are talking about.
Speaker 13 (01:54:06):
However, what we do is we put a really really
large emphasis on the.
Speaker 10 (01:54:10):
Mental aspect of of athletics.
Speaker 25 (01:54:13):
So these kids are all very physically gifted, very physically talented,
but a lot of them haven't really put tons of
effort into becoming a mastermind in athletics, right, So we
do a ton of that.
Speaker 10 (01:54:26):
We also talk about opportunity.
Speaker 25 (01:54:28):
There might be nice opportunities at bigger schools, and a
lot of these athletes will will make decisions based on
the name on the side of the bag, and they're
they're they're kind of ego based decisions. The kids that
I'm looking for in the recruiting process have a lot
more blue collar work ethic. They're here to do work.
They know what they're capable of, they know they're going
(01:54:49):
to be pushed hard, they know they're going to be
held to a higher standard. And the accountability factor is
not just coming from me, it's coming from within. All
of the guys on the team will hold each other
a able to a higher standards.
Speaker 10 (01:55:01):
So it's.
Speaker 25 (01:55:04):
You start to flush out a lot of the kids
that you think you want when you start to realize,
you know what, maybe there they might be a little
bit too entitled, right, Or maybe if we push them
as hard as we push ourselves, they might not be
able to handle that.
Speaker 3 (01:55:16):
Right.
Speaker 25 (01:55:16):
So we try to be a little bit over the
top and tell them here's what's coming, and if it
doesn't scare them away.
Speaker 10 (01:55:22):
Then we'll continue the recruitment process.
Speaker 1 (01:55:25):
How good is high school golf in this area? It's
funny you asked that.
Speaker 25 (01:55:30):
I was just talking to some guys the other day
and they were talking about some winning scores from the
high school state championships back in the eighties, right, and
kids were shooting eighty three seventy seven and winning a
state title.
Speaker 10 (01:55:41):
And that doesn't happen anymore. The level of golf at.
Speaker 25 (01:55:48):
They're going to be strong net players nowadays.
Speaker 13 (01:55:50):
But the level of golf, even at the high school level.
Speaker 10 (01:55:54):
It's just through the roof.
Speaker 25 (01:55:56):
There are so many good players, not just in Scenati,
in the state of Ohio, in the country, and just
across the world. So the recruiting pool is super large,
but locally there's just every you know, once every five
ten years you get you get a special kid locally
that you just think this this this dude's built differently and.
Speaker 10 (01:56:21):
If you can get them, you're you're really lucky.
Speaker 1 (01:56:24):
You have most of your players are from this part
of the country. But when you are recruiting someone for
you have a kid from Quebec. Yeah, so when when
you're when you're recruiting someone from another part of the country,
what's what's that process like?
Speaker 25 (01:56:41):
Yeah, so a lot we try to win regionally first, right,
win Cincinnati, went in Ohio, win in the Midwest, and
then you start to spiral out a lot of a
lot of the people that we recruit from across the country, right,
start to buy into the same vision. Right, just because
you're from Dallas, or just because you're from Montreal, or
just because you're from somewhere in Europe, you can still
(01:57:01):
value the same things that we value as a program, right,
And you want to come somewhere and you want to
be developed as a player, as a student and as
an athlete.
Speaker 13 (01:57:10):
So I think golf's one of those things.
Speaker 25 (01:57:12):
Once you realize people have the same interests and are
pulling in the same direction, a lot of the differences
start to go away because.
Speaker 10 (01:57:19):
Everybody's there for the same reason.
Speaker 3 (01:57:20):
Right.
Speaker 25 (01:57:20):
We're here to get our education, we're here to become
really really really good people, and we're here to get
better at golf.
Speaker 1 (01:57:28):
By the way, the Xavier Invitational is going to be
on Monday and Tuesday. Do you guys realize how lucky
they are to play at a course in McAtee with
it Like folks like me have to beg rich people
to come play.
Speaker 26 (01:57:38):
Yeah, I don't know that they fully realize how lucky
they are to play at most of the places we play,
And I'm not sure it really it'll really hit them
until they graduate, right, and then they can't go play
Mcattee or Waynesville and a country club or some of
the unbelievable places places we play.
Speaker 13 (01:57:58):
And by the way, they're not spending any money doing it.
Speaker 25 (01:58:02):
They're there, they're they're competing, and the courses are always mint,
and the conditions are always just so good and the
competition is really good.
Speaker 13 (01:58:09):
So no, I don't think they have any idea.
Speaker 25 (01:58:12):
I mean, I know they're grateful, but I don't think
they're really and they really appreciate it until mid twenties
or late thirty even.
Speaker 1 (01:58:20):
Yeah, I can understand that. Coach, we appreciate the time.
