Speaker 1 (00:00):
ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's sports station.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
All right, it is uh five or five ESPN fifteen thirty, Moeggers,
thank you for listening today. Hopefully you're having an awesome
Wednesday for knowing a ton going on quickly on the hoops,
U sez up nine eight nineteen to go forty nine
to forty SMU lost, which is not unhelpful. Sixty two
(00:26):
fifty nine to Louisville. Xavier's playing later tonight Kentucky a winner,
which means tomorrow they'll take on Missouri after beating LSU today.
The game's on ESPN fifteen thirty. Tomorrow, twelve thirty is
tip off, so we'll get on the air roughly. I'm
guessing at three fifty five. Yet again no since e
three sixty. Tomorrow, we've got an expert from Orthosinci on
(00:49):
Hunter Green's procedure, and uh find out about the timeline,
possible complications, and I also i'll ask him if he
thinks that Hunter Green's gonna have to like his mechanics
or not throw as hard, that sort of stuff. That
conversation is coming up in just about fifteen minutes, maybe
(01:09):
thirty minutes.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
We will see.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
We're streaming the show on Twitter today because years ago
Terren spied on me and caught me reacting to UC
winning a big twelve tournament game. I believe over West Virginia,
and I've I think I've maintained my composure. I've behaved myself.
I do not think they get in if they win
today and lose tomorrow, but it does get a lot
(01:33):
more interesting. And look, they're gonna be huge dogs. Arizona
wipe the floor with them the first time, but just
give me a chance. They're seven and change away now
an eleven point lead, fifty one to forty. Mustapha Cham
has been really good, Keishaan Tillery has been really good,
and hopefully the Bearcats can finish. The Bengals still haven't
signed a linebacker. Case you're wondering, Trey Hendrickson is a
(01:56):
Baltimore Raven and I Last night was a really fun
sports night because you had the World Baseball Classic, you
had college hoops happening, you had Bam Autobios scoring eighty
three points, and you had the disintegration of the agreed
upon tree between the Ravens and the Las Vegas Raiders,
(02:16):
which would have sent two first round picks from Baltimore
to Vegas in exchange for Max Crosby.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
Baltimore Nicks is the deal.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
And watching everybody way in on this and watching people
around the NFL get mad at the Baltimore Ravens was
a lot of fun. What the Ravens have done is
apparently within the rules. I don't know that they have
violated any collective bargaining agreement rule. I don't know that
they have violated any part of the NFL's constitution. You
could argue that what they have done is shady, and
(02:46):
there's probably something to that, but what they've done is
within the rules. And you can argue that what they've
done is unethical, but so is turning off the hot
water and the visiting team shower. The Ravens have one obligation,
and I'm no Baltimore fan, but the Ravens have one obligation,
and that obligation is to themselves. And so they did
(03:09):
something that whether it's legit, and they legitimately were scared
off by Max Crosby's physical or saw Trey Hendrickson dangling
out here and thought, well, we can get a guy
who's maybe a little bit more of a sex specialist
and a little bit older. But we could get him
well at the same time keeping our first round picks,
(03:30):
Like that's a better deal. And we haven't signed anything
in the new league year hasn't started yet, Like is
that shady? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Is that unethical? Sure?
Speaker 2 (03:40):
But the Ravens at the end of the day have
one obligation. Their obligation is to themselves. Now, when you
do something unethical, when you do something that your peers
or your competitors find unethical, you're gonna have to deal
with the fallout. Like if I do something that violates
(04:00):
something ethically in this business, maybe it's not going to
cost me my job, but it might cost me credibility
with my colleagues, my coworkers. It might keep some of
them from wanting to do business with me or making
me a part of their projects. I have to deal
with that, I believe, And this is just me. You
could disagree if you'd like, and tell me if you do.
But in terms of like, well, teams aren't gonna want
(04:22):
to do business with the Baltimore Ravens anymore. If the
Ravens have someone or something that another team wants, they'll
do business with the Baltimore Ravens and agents. Yeah, like okay,
if there are agents who are looking at the Ravens going,
I'm not sure I want to do business with them.
I think that will last until their client is offered
the most money in a deal by the Baltimore Ravens.
(04:45):
We will see the Trey hendricks in part of this.
The Trey hendricks in.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Part of this. Him going to the Baltimore Ravens. I
think is cool. I get it.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
It feels maybe to you like betrayal, although Trey Hendrickson
owed the Bengals nothing like if your employer lets you go,
which is effectively what happened with Trey Hendrickson, you don't
owe them anything once your employment ends. So if it
means go work for their direct competitor or your boss's
sworn enemy, find so be it. I think this is
(05:24):
fun because the Trey Hendrickson thing, like it or not,
has dominated the discourse and we've had a ton of
fun with it. But what has always been interesting is ultimately,
will it be proven that the Bengals got it right
or got it wrong? Did they get it right in
not having plans for Trey to be on the team
twenty twenty six, twenty twenty seven, and beyond, did they
(05:46):
get it right? And is Trey Hendrickson going to age
poorly or his best years truly behind him? Or is
he going to have a transformative year? Is he going
to have the sort of season that defies what the
Bengals expected? And he plays every game and he has
a huge sack total, and he's one of the key
reasons why the Ravens go deep into the postseason.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
We will see.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
I'd rather see it firsthand, see if they got it
right by watching the Bengals play against them twice. Look,
he was gonna go somewhere, even if the market for
him didn't quite materialize the way he had hoped, he
was gonna go somewhere. So let's let's let's see it.
Let's see how they do against him. And if you're
(06:27):
worried about Trey Hendrickson sacking Joe Burrow, well, there's a
reason why you're paying Orlando Brown a ton of money,
and there's a reason why you've invested in a Marius Mims.
There's a reason why we're we're bullish on the Bengals
offensive line because it's supposed to be this year. Actually good,
So block the guy you invested in your two tackles,
(06:47):
mainly Trey is obviously at edge. You invested in those
two guys.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
For a reason.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Block elite pass rushers. Block guys like Trey Hendrickson. Like,
we are all fans of winning first and foremost, but
I'm also a fan of interesting. Trey Hendrickson here playing
in Baltimore is more interesting than him playing for I
(07:15):
don't know, the Dallas Cowboys of the San Francisco forty
nine ers, or the Jacksonville Jaguars of the Carolina Panthers,
or the Indianapolis Colts, which is where obviously a lot of.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
People thought he was gonna go. I'm a fan of interesting.
I want to win.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Okay, beat the Ravens with Trey Hendrickson. The Bengals have
decided his best years are behind him. Okay, prove it
by blocking him. Prove it by not allowing him to
wreck your game plan or hurt your quarterback. Trey Hendrickson
will play in Cincinnati for the Ravens. Fan reaction gonna
(07:51):
be interesting. I'm sure we're gonna do the whole like
should he be boots? Should he be cheered? And I'd
cheer the guy. I probably will cheer the guy. I'm
audio work guy. Now, we've had a lot of fun
with Trey Hendrickson, ends I know there are others who
feel the same way. I don't like how he handled
(08:11):
the last year plus here and best free agent signing
in the history of the franchise. That goes I don't
think it goes without saying, but it's that's a conclusion
that a lot of us have arrived at that his
time in Cincinnati is smashing success individually into a degree
from a team perspective, because he was he exceeded everybody's expectations,
(08:33):
and certainly you will find Bengals fans who wish he
was still here. But in the last year or so,
the whining about the contract that he had just recently signed,
him going public with his beef with what Zach Taylor
had texted him, him showing up at practice and conducting
a pseudo press conference mere feet away from where his
(08:55):
teammates were working out, the gripes about him never being
a captain like it just it all got to be
a bit much. Trey Hendrickson, as marvelous of a player
as he was, it just he got to be kind
of a cartoon character over the last year. Maybe you disagree,
but you know, there's him being a villain. Ye, Jesse
(09:18):
Bates is with the Falcons, and you know, it's interesting
to see how he's done. He's been great, not a villain.
Sports are more fun when they're characters. Trey Hendrickson playing
against the Bengals twice a year is more of a
character than him playing for a team that might play
the Bengals once or twice during the course of his
time with that team. Him playing them in high stakes games,
(09:39):
hopefully for the Baltimore Ravens, awesome. Let's do it. That's
a fun wrinkle. Sports are more fun when there are
fun wrinkles. And if you're terrified that they're not going
to win games because Trey Hendrickson is going to destroy
their offense, well then you believe the Bengals have bigger
offensive line issues than they do.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
So let's do it. Man Trey in Baltimore. I think
it's awesome.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
Let's go more storylines, more characters, more people who matter
to fans playing in games that matter to fans. What
does he tray with the Seattle Seahawks or some team
like that let's go.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
Let's do it.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
There's no better way to see if they got it
right with the player than playing frequently against the player.
Let's go. Sports are more fun when there are villains.
This UC game would be more fun if if Dada
Thomas had just made that three fifty one forty four,
four thirty to go a quarter after five at Moeger.
I got to get to a poll question at some
(10:36):
point here in just a bit. I think the Bearcats
got away with a foul. That's going the other way.
That's going the other way, offensive ful. Bob and Miller
has had a tough game, but I think he just
took an offensive foul. We got to spend a few
minutes on Hunter Green, who is apparently having the procedure
today to take out the bone spurs, take out the
bone chips. By the way, Matt McClain another home run today.
It's batting close to six hundred this spring. He is
(10:59):
knocking back close to six hundred when the real games begin.
But if you were hoping for an encouraging spring from
Mott mcclan, you're getting it. The Hunter Green weirdness we
touched on a little bit yesterday. We'll spend a few
more minutes on and then we'll talk to an expert
on next on ESPN fifteen.

Twenty after five o'clock, fifteen thirty Moegger. We're gonna check
in with Tony Pike at the Holy Grail, very very
close to the conclusion of.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
The UC game.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
The Bearcats are up by three points. Standing by in
just a second, our friend doctor Jonathan Slaughter from Orthos
Sincy on Hunter Green, who's obviously gonna miss at least
half of the season with the bone ships in his elbow,
I root hard for Hunter Green.
Speaker 3 (12:29):
Like I've talked before.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
If I'm not too old to have a favorite player,
he's my favorite player. And I've been accused of being
a Hunter Green apologist, which I'm not. He's always to
me come off as an easy guy to root for
and somebody who I think is when he's at his best,
he's really fun to watch. There's there's a lot, it
(12:52):
feels like happening behind the scenes that we don't know,
and none of us should be irresponsible in draw conclusions
that we're not qualified to draw. And I think some
are going to take this to the degree that Hunter
doesn't like baseball, that sort of thing, like he's he's
hurt a lot, and when athletes get hurt a lot, unfortunately,
those narratives grow. But I do think it's it's fair
(13:15):
to just take a take a step back and look
at what's happened with Hunter and the Reds for the
last couple of years and just wonder why things have
gotten so weird. If you just go back to last
year during the summer, all the conjecture over the frustrations
in regards to you know, him slow playing his return
(13:35):
from injury. I mean that was a topic in the
middle of the summer last year, when it was taking
longer than I think a lot of people were hoping for.
As Jalen Selstein hits a three, when it was taking
longer than a lot of people were hoping for for
him to come back from his groin injury, cats are
up by six. And then there was there was trade
chatter this offseason, and I'm not sure any of it
(13:56):
was really substantive, but there was trade chatter, and it
never really felt like a deal was gonna get done.
But it also didn't feel like baseless fan speculation or
baseless media speculation. It felt like there was a little
there there. And then you know, Hunter starts spring training
and he's talking about feeling like his his character was defamed.
(14:20):
He clearly was agitated, maybe deservedly so. He clearly was hurt,
maybe deservedly so. But he's he's doing this well. He
was apparently dealing with elbow soreness. That's weird, Like all
those things are weird. And then the current conversation about
the timing of the procedure, what the Reds knew about
his elbow soreness, what he may or may not have disclosed,
(14:43):
like just confusion, weirdness, and so like, maybe there is
absolutely no disconnect between the team and the picture.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
Maybe I hope that's the case. And God knows.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
If Hunter comes back and pitches great and helps the
Reds get to the postseason and then can go on
a long stretch of not being injured, not missing time,
the conversation will change and a lot of the weirdness
of the last year eight to ten months.
Speaker 3 (15:11):
Will go away.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
But it just feels like everything between one of the
faces of the franchise and the franchise itself is a
little off and a little weird and a little disconnected.
And as relationships go, when there's awkwardness and weirdness and
there's a disconnect, those relationships tend to tend to unravel.
(15:38):
I hope that doesn't happen with Hunter Green. Let's talk
with one of the experts, one of the doctors from
Ortho Sincy Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. The great thing about
Ortho Sincy is they have specialist locations and services all
over the Tri State, including walk in orthopedic urgent care
at five locations with extended evening and weekend hours in Edgewood,
and Anderson learn more at Orthosinc. That's ortho ci ncy
(16:02):
dot com. Doctor Jonathan Slaughter from orthosince he is with us.
So a lot of people have said this he gets
the PRP injection at the outside of the off season
instead of the procedure that he's having, and so forget
that he should have had the procedure that he's having
earlier in the off season so he wouldn't have to
miss any time in twenty twenty six. Is that from
your perspective? Is that a fair way of looking at
(16:23):
things from a fans perspective?
Speaker 5 (16:26):
It's a tough question, and it comes down to where
this is where medicine is really an art. And then
when you're a sports doctor, it can complicate things because
now you have to figure out the timing not just
of the injury, but of the season and where they're at.
And so when he had this bone spurs and his
(16:48):
elbow with some loose bodies, you think, well, can we
treat this non operatively you avoid the risk of surgery,
And that's what they kind of talked about and decided
to try.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
Could we do this peer.
Speaker 5 (17:01):
P get the inflammation down, maybe get some healing of
it to where then we don't have to undergo surgery.
The problem is when that fails, now the next step
is the surgical procedure, and the timeline is also thrown off.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
So having the surgery today, let's talk about the timeline
that has sort of been big part of the public discourse.
I guess fourteen to sixteen weeks. What will those roughly
three or four months look like for Hunter Green?
Speaker 5 (17:31):
Yeah, the first six weeks is basically just healing, recovery,
getting inflammation down, and maintaining motion and building strength, so
basically not picking up a ball. By six weeks, if
he's got good motion, strength and the swelling and inflammation
is down, that's when you start a throwing program. That
would start just flat ground light tossing variable degrees of
(17:55):
distance as well as effort. Once you progress through the
flat phase, you then go up to the mound, starting
light effort, fastballs, progress up in the amount of pitches,
the amount of effort and strength, as well as mixing
in the other pitches that he.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
Has once he gets back to maximum level throwing. Whenever
that is, is there a risk of the bone chips
reforming or there being some sort of aggravation of the
injury that could further delay his return and maybe put
his entire season in jeopardy.
Speaker 5 (18:32):
With this injury, it's called vougus extension overload, where when
the elbow goes through a vogus stress, which is what
you experience with throwing, and your arm goes into extension
at the end of the pitch, you get increased force
on the inside of the elbow. And Wolf's law is
(18:52):
what we discuss in orthopedics, where the bone reacts to
external stress and it builds more bone in that area
and that's how you develop these bone spurs or what
we call osteophytes.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
Well, he's going to continue.
Speaker 5 (19:07):
To exert this stress through pitching and he can redevelop those.
Now I doubt he would redevelop those in this year,
but that could be a future worry of developing more
bone spurs, and then those bone spurs can break and
that's how those loose bodies develop.
Speaker 2 (19:23):
Hunter Green throws hard, and so when you talk about
his max effort, that means getting it up there one
hundred miles an hour even more. I know you're not
a pitching coach, you're a doctor, but from a medical
professionals perspective, is there a suggestion that he either changed
his mechanics or just not throws hard.
Speaker 5 (19:49):
From a medical perspective, you would always say you want
to avoid this stress that's causing the issue. Well, pitching
creates that stress, so he's not going to be able
to fully avoid the stress that causes these bone spurs.
And he's at the elite level. He's one of the
top pitchers, so his form as is is at an
(20:11):
elite form. He might make minor adjustments which I would
leave to the professional pitching coaches, but overall, I don't
see him changing much of what got him to where
he is.
Speaker 2 (20:23):
Hunter Green is as awesome as he is when he
is healthy. Has now a very extensive injury history Tommy
John surgery, shoulder problem in twenty twenty to a hip
issue in twenty twenty three, elbow and growing twenty twenty
four to twenty twenty five, and now this how much
is just a cumulative effect a concern here when it
(20:44):
comes to Hunter.
Speaker 5 (20:47):
A lot of it can also just be mental, the
mental effect of almost every year being on the il,
the toll it can take mentally. Again, he's an elite
athlete with elite trainers put in his body through maximum stress.
But it's one of those Do you call him injury prone? Well,
(21:11):
once you start getting all these injuries, you know he
might be what you would call injury prone. But I
don't think there's anything biological to say, yeah, this is
why he keeps getting these injuries.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
Well, but because I you know, I always think that's
the most fascinating part of this, right because as fans,
we go while he's injury prone, and I think often
luck is involved. But I always do wonder if there's
something physiological or biological that would suggest that maybe a
guy like Hunter just isn't going to have the sort
of long career that so many of us hope he's
going to have.
Speaker 5 (21:47):
Nothing biological, I think most of it is luck. I
think part of it is just the rigors of one
hundred and sixty plus games schedule or one hundred and
sixty two game schedule, as well as off season training
and what's demanded of them.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
One more and this kind of goes back to something
you and I talked about last week. He was feeling
discomfort before spring training, but he still threw, still appeared
in a game. We'd love to go back in time,
I guess. But when a picture, whether it's at this
level or at the amateur level, is feeling that discomfort
from where you sit, how much do you recommend, Look,
(22:27):
don't get on the mound, don't pick up a ball,
don't throw. Let's look at this before we incur further
risk of something even more drastic than what we're dealing.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
With here, big time.
Speaker 5 (22:39):
So I even just this weekend we had the Anderson
Little League managers meeting, and as a safety officer, I
was telling him, Look, if your kid has elbow pain,
best thing you can do for them is shutting down
from a throwing perspective. It doesn't mean they can't do
other baseball related activities, but at the first sign of information,
(22:59):
the best you can do is rest at is it,
take anti inflammatories, get the inflammation down. If it that
pain continues after getting inflammation down, that's when you investigate further.
Speaker 2 (23:10):
Makes total sense. I appreciate the insight consecutive weeks, doctor
Jonathan Slaughter from Ortho Sinsey.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
Appreciate the time. We will chat. I'm sure soon.
Speaker 5 (23:19):
Thank you, mo all ight.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
Awesome expertise from doctor Jonathan Slaughter from Orthos Sincy. I
say this every week because it's true. The great thing
about Ortho Sincy is they have specialists and locations all

last ninety seconds or so of gameplay and regulation in
Kansas City?
Speaker 3 (24:01):
His poor management? They just collapsed.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
UC took an eight point lead with two seconds to go.
I'm sorry, with a two seventeen to go, their next possessions,
I don't think they've gotten a shot up since there's
been a ten second violation, there have been turnovers. There
have been turnovers while the Bearcats had three timeouts. They
have the ball in the last possession and Wes Miller
calls timeout. They put six tenths of a second more
(24:25):
back on the clock, but they nearly had a They
nearly dribbled the clock out without getting a shot off.
There are point eight seconds to go. It's been an
eight zip run over the last two in change for UCF.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
The game was not one, but.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
UCF made it fifty eight to fifty two with two
oh sex to go, two o six to go. Gisel
had a turnover, UCF scored off of it, then a
ten second violation. Over the course of a entire season,
how many ten second violations do you see? And the
ten second violation occurred with the Bearcats having three three
(25:08):
timeouts in their back pocket. UCF gets the ball, they score,
then Dadae Thomas throws the ball away, UCF gets it,
they score, and Dada has just missed a three point
shot at the end of regulation. So we're going to overtime.
Tied at fifty eight. There's no other way to put
that but a meltdown. They may still win this game,
(25:30):
but unfortunately what just happened over the last two minutes
is way too emblematic of the way the Bearcats played
in so many close games in November, December, and January.
We're going to talk to Tony Pike at the Holy Grail,
which will be fun for everybody. Next on ESPN fifteen thirty.

will happen. If Cincinnati wins today and loses tomorrow, they

Speaker 3 (27:08):
There's no getting around it.
Speaker 2 (27:09):
And frankly, this entire the entire season has occurred against
the backdrop of questions about Wes Miller's job security and
whether or not he's going to be the coach next season.
If the NCAA tournament hopes get burst, the bubble gets
burst by a loss today that occurred the way it
(27:29):
did today. If you thought the screens were allowed before,
Oh boy, I believe UCF is going to the free

by two. All right, a couple of other things, and
then we're supposed to check it with Tony Pike at

What's your mood like? Right now?
Speaker 6 (28:20):
Feels like the uh the mood of the Bearcat point

Speaker 3 (28:26):
Down by one day with a three day, they's done.
Speaker 6 (28:31):
It's it's a joyous atmosphere. I would have been a
lot more joyous if the Bearcats put a punctuation on
on this game and punch they're ticking in tomorrow. But
it's a good crowd, it's a it's obviously a great environment.
Should be fun here tonight.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
All right, what what happens starting at six o'clock beyond
you hopefully celebrating the Bearcats advancing to UH to the
next round against Arizona.
Speaker 6 (28:52):
Oh, well, we've got we're gonna have some bagpipes, We're
gonna have some cloggers. We're gonna have the ceremony, ceremonial
Guinness hag capping mo. We're gonna tap a keg of
guinness and we're gonna enjoy some guinness usually terms splitting
the g things like that, and then I believe there's
a toast involved at some point that I'm gonna have
to give. So it all gets underway at six o'clock.
(29:14):
The toast can either go one of two ways based
on how the last fifty five seconds.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
Of the pouring the guinness. There's like an art to that.
Have you been given specific instructions?
Speaker 6 (29:25):
Yeah, I'm gonna pour it about three quarters of the
way up. You're gonna have to let it settle for
about thirty seconds, and then you're gonna have to finish
the poor and get that nice folm.
Speaker 3 (29:32):
On the top.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
MO. All right, So you'll be there tonight tapping the keg.
It gets underway at six o'clock. If if you see
doesn't win this game, because I can't imagine being in
your shoes there, because if they lose this game, honestly,
like I'm just I might just lock myself in this
studio and call home and say I'll see tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (29:53):
Should we just tell people to leave you alone when
it comes to the.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
Game itself, come by, say hi, talk about the show,
talk about your career. But but let's let's leave the game
itself alone.
Speaker 6 (30:03):
Yeah, if you're gonna make it down here and this
thing doesn't go well, do not mention the game. I
got a little bit of a free today Kentucky Basketball one,
which means unfortunately, no sincey three sixty tomorrow, so I
won't have to rehash this for three hours on the
air tomorrow. So please don't make me rehash it tonight.
Let's be festive. Let's uh, let's kick off Saint Patrick's
(30:24):
Day and have a good night.
Speaker 2 (30:26):
And how stoked are you for Saturday? Being the grand
Marshal of the Saint Patty's Day Parade.
Speaker 6 (30:31):
It's it's pretty cool. It's a it's a parade. Obviously,
being Irish on my mom's side of the family, it's
something we used to come to. So knowing how big
of an event it is in Cincinnati, knowing how Cincinnati
always shows up, it's always fun. I'm super excited.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
All right, do you want to watch the final this
final sequence together?
Speaker 6 (30:51):
All right, I'm a little ahead of you, so I
know I'm gonna tell you what's what's coming up?
Speaker 3 (30:54):
Isn't good?
Speaker 2 (30:55):
Out of a time out on the right wing and heugh,
he throws it right to UCF.
Speaker 3 (31:03):
How well the time out out of a timeout? All right?
So so UCF has the ball.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
There's about a twelve thirteen twelve second differential between game
clock and shot clock. The Bearcats u CEEF has a timeout,
you see, has a time out. Oh god, ten seconds
on the shot clock. Oh that doesn't sound good. That
doesn't sound good at all. Four to shoot. Here's Coogler
(31:28):
with a drive. His shot is no good, rebounded by
Chom's got it. Chom's got at Cincinnati? Are we calling
time out? Are we calling time out?
Speaker 3 (31:36):
Pass ahead?
Speaker 2 (31:36):
Does Celestine free from the wing, grazes the front of
the rim? Cincinnati commits a foul, UCF is gonna shoot
one point three seconds to go.
Speaker 6 (31:50):
I don't know, maybe take the time out. Maybe I
guess it's not bad because you gotta look in transition.
But it's just what a what a dagger of a way,
and such a disappointing basketball season.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
I'm calling a time out there, and I understand, like, hey,
let them play, don't let UCF said their defense, don't
let them sub. But with the way things unfolded and
all those possessions at the end of regulation, with as
bad as they've been with the ball. That is, that
was close to their twentieth turnover. I am I'm drawing
(32:24):
something up.
Speaker 6 (32:24):
I mean they had three three turnovers from the point
guards and had three timeouts left. Just absolute meltdown by Look,
Gisel and Data are veteran guys. You get a count
on those guys in March.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
But you watch a ton of college basketball. How many
ten second violations do you see?
Speaker 6 (32:43):
Not many. I also don't see the point guard usually
giving the ball up to your center at the top
of the key with three seconds left in regulation. Just
nothing going to the basket, no aggressiveness. Just frustrating on
all accounts. All right, I let them off tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
Do you wanna do you wanna? Do you wanna fail?
You want to fail?
Speaker 2 (33:02):
You've you've missed a lot, There's been a lot going on.
The first free throw is no good. You're ahead of me.
You're laughing, You're you have to sinister laugh. So you
know you know how this ends? Yeah, all right, still Wells,
still Wells at the free throw line for the the
second of two u c F was in the double bonus.
(33:26):
The second free throw is in the air. What we're
doing is probably illegal. The ball is tipped, it gets
chased down by Celestine, the clock expires. Cincinnati's n cub
A Tournament hopes go up and smoke on a a
game that that frankly was reflective of so many that
the Bearcats lost earlier this season.
Speaker 3 (33:47):
Tony, have fun tonight.
Speaker 2 (33:48):
We'll tell people to come see at the Grail and uh,
enjoy your day off tomorrow. All right, No, I don't know,
and I we have what we call in this business
counter right, which we often do it. We often do
it when the Reds are playing a day game where
it's like, all right, you gotta do Bengal stuff.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
I think I've built up enough equity. And if you're
in the audience, you know I love UC basketball. I
don't know how good of a last twenty minutes of
the show that was. But uh, I don't know that
I could do justice what I just watched, but I
will try, Tarreen. How are we on time? I know
(34:34):
we skipped a break there, How we How are we
doing on time?
Speaker 3 (34:36):
We have about three minutes left in the show, so
we're not gonna have time to hear from anybody in
Kansas City.
Speaker 2 (34:43):
It's gonna say, you like to spend the next two
minutes calling Chad Brendle.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
Chad's on the show on Thursdays. That'll that'll be fun.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
UC took the lead with just over two minutes to
go and then proceeded. I'm not sure they I don't
know that they got a shot off in the final
two minutes of regulation. And the way the Bearcats have
played over the last month has been really good, and
they've they've entered the conversation to be in the tournament.
(35:15):
But what put them such behind the eight ball, what
put them in the position that they've been playing from
behind for weeks has been the fact that there were
so many games where down the stretch, games that were
there for the taking, they either melted down or just
didn't make the play or stop scoring or turned it over.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
Whatever it was.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
Today looked like pick your worst version of that from
back in January or back in December.
Speaker 3 (35:46):
Today took the cake.
Speaker 2 (35:50):
And you know, I've been asked fifteen times a day
for the last couple of weeks, like what's gonna happen
with Wes? Because a month ago it felt like he
was a dead man walking. A month ago felt like
it was almost inevitable, and then with every single win
and the closer they've played themselves to the bubble, it
feels like there's been some degree of momentum for him
to keep his job.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
And now I kind of.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
Felt like, dude, lose to Utah and conversation shifts again.
They didn't losing today in the manner in which they did,
where some very legitimate strategic decisions are going to be
discussed deep into the night. Today did not help Wes Miller.
It most definitely did not help him in the court
(36:32):
of public opinion, and it is fair to wonder what
today did for the people who are making decisions about
his future. All I will say is this because we're
going to have a lot of time to talk about
this tomorrow. Whatever they do, do it quick. Timing's important here. Unfortunately,
(36:55):
our time is up sixty six to sixty. The final
score an absolute meltdown. There's no other way to put it.
An absolute meltdown. I appreciate you putting up with this.
We did some other stuff that I thought was Okay,
we'll have more time tomorrow. UK Hoops will put us
(37:15):
on the air a little bit before four o'clock. Robert
Wintraub's on the show. We'll do some FC Cincinnati and
lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of
Chad Brundle. Have a great night. Thanks to Tarren Bland
for producing. Thanks to you for listening. This is ESPN
