Speaker 1 (00:00):
So it's good afternoon. I'm b Leager. This is ESBN
fifteen thirty. Thank you so much for listening. We are
broadcasting today from Mcateewah Makateewah Country Club, the home of
the twenty twenty six Kroger Queen City Championship presented by
DG and an LPGA Tour event. It is awesome to
(00:22):
be here. This is the second year that we have
broadcast from this event. It's the first time that this
event has been held at Mcteewah. This is an event
that typically has taken place late in the summer, and
we've moved it to I think the sweet spot for
golf on the men's side. You got the PGA Championship
this week the LPGA this weekend here in Cincinnati. The
(00:44):
folks here already have been extraordinarily hospitable. And this is
if you love golf, and I do, and I'm new
to loving golf. That was a big COVID thing for me,
Like I fell in love with golf first of all,
Like if you're like me and you play muni courses,
then I'll let you at places like this. I don't
(01:04):
know any rich people, so I can't I don't know
any members that is joined to come out and you know,
let me play. So it's really cool a to be
allowed in b to get a chance to walk the
course see some of the world class players who are
out here. It is very family and fan friendly and
tickets are available all weekend long. It is slightly chilly,
(01:26):
I guess a little bit on the chili side. I
got a hoodie on, but nonetheless an awesome venue, a
terrific event. You can come out this weekend and watch
some world class golf and the venue change venue changes
is great for us because it's a little bit closer
to home. This is a wonderful place. The LPGA Tour
is on fire. We have a lot of players with
(01:48):
local ties who are playing this week and thrilled to
be here for a second consecutive year. And we'll talk
to some of the folks who are either playing in
the tournament or involved with the tournament as the afternoon unfold. Again.
We thank the folks with the Kroger Queen City Championship
presented by p ANDNG for giving us a chance to
broadcast from here at MCINTEEWA, and hopefully we can come
(02:09):
back every year because this is awesome. I like any
show where they feed us. They fed me and my
guy Mike Mills. That's always important. And if you know
anything about me, you know that this time of year,
I'm always badgering Terran, like, how can we do the
show outside? I want to do the show outside because
outside is better than inside, and because outside you can
smoke cigars, and nobody here has told me that I can't.
(02:31):
So I sat here a year ago at when we
did the show at the tournament last year at TPC
at Rivers Bend, and I enjoyed a cigar, and there
were a lot of fans enjoying cigars, and so I've
got one here. So really I'm kind of in heaven.
And again thanks to the folks with the Kroger Queen
City Championship presented by PNG and the LPGA Tour for
(02:51):
having us out. This is going to be a lot
of fun throughout the course of the afternoon, having a
lot of fun. Right now at GABP, the Reds are
teeing off on a position player. He's Joey Weimer out
to polish off the game for the Washington Nationals. Cincinnati
has brought out the long ball they have put on
their hit and shoes, so to speak, and they lead
the Nationals fifteen to one as a DC takes its
(03:14):
last licks in the top of the ninth inning at GABP. Cincinnati,
bouncing back after consecutive losses, including a really tough one
last night, Reds have scored a lot of runs today
and they've gotten a couple of homers off the bats
of JJ Bleday. Matt McClain went deep today, Dane Myers
has hit a home run, Bleday has driven in six.
(03:34):
Elie de la Cruz with another multi hit game. But
they also got another terrific start from Chase Burns, who's
lowered his ERA this season to one point eighty seven.
And yes, they scored him some runs. Cincinnati scored two
in the second, four and the fourth, three in the fifth,
So he worked with a lead, and he worked with
a cushion for a large chunk of the afternoon. But
(03:55):
we said it with his last start on Saturday, they
badly needed an ACE type performance from Chase Burns, and
he gave it to him against the Astros. The Reds
won that game three to one. He gave it to
him the previous Sunday when the Reds lost to the Pirates,
won nothing through no fault of Chase Burns, who was
magnificent that day. The term staff ace is subjective, like
(04:18):
it's not an official title, and ideally your staff has
a bunch of staff faces. On this year's team, it's
Chase Burns. It's not just the guy with the lowest era.
It's not just the guy with the most amount of wins,
which I couldn't tell you how many wins Chase Burns
has because pitcher wins and losses are meaningful stats, as
we all know. The ace to me is the guy
that stops losing streaks, that gives you length when you
(04:40):
need it, that sort of quiets everything down when there's
a lot swirling around the team, and let's face it,
with the Reds, there's been a lot swirling around the team.
They badly needed a win today. And what everybody's going
to notice it has just gone final fifteen to one.
What everybody is gonna notice, I think first is the
score fifteen runs, four homers, offensive explosion. But man, more
(05:02):
than anything else, Chase Burns is a stud and him
moving into that role and look, man, by the time
we get to August hopefully Hunter Green is pitching. He's
going to join the team on this road trip. I
guess coming up to a Cleveland in Philadelphia, and hopefully
Hunter Green comes back and pitches the way we know
Hunter Green can. And hopefully Nicolodolo figures things out. Last
(05:24):
night he was staked to a five nothing lead and
then gave it all back. He hasn't figured things out yet,
and Andrew Abbott has taken some steps in the right direction. Ideally,
by the time we get to July and August and September,
we're we're talking about a rotation that has a lot
of different dudes that qualify as a staff ace. Right now,
it's Chase Burns, and can you imagine where this team
(05:47):
might They may have won today's game because they scored
fifteen runs, but for a guy who is still very
young and very inexperienced, he has moved very quickly, and
I think, on a national level, very quietly, into that
role of stopper staff as whatever you want to call it.
Thank god this team has them. Fifteen to one will
(06:08):
have instant reaction from gabp throughout the course of the
afternoon tonight. It's a fun night. It's schedule release night.
We have a show at Dickman's six hours, six to midnight,
and I've had folks ask me, well, are you guys
just gonna talk about the schedule for six hours. No,
we're gonna talk about the Bengals, and we're gonna talk
about the upcoming season against the backdrop of knowing when
(06:31):
they play, what schedule advantages may present themselves or may
present opportunities to go on a run, which schedule challenges
there may be for the upcoming season. To me, it's
one of the most fun nights in all of sports.
I was listening to Tony and Austin on since E
three to sixty discuss schedule leaks. I'm a very much
(06:55):
a to each their own type of person, Like, if
you're the thing is you want to be the guy
on social media who tells everybody that you know when
the Bengals play the Steelers or when they play the Ravens,
or if you're a journalist and you think it's your
journalistic responsibility to pass along information that the NFL would
rather you not, you do you if you want to
(07:17):
spend all day refreshing Twitter, looking at social media, trying
to find clues trying to see if there's leagues out there. Man,
go for it for me, and I can only speak
for myself. What I like about tonight is the relative
spontaneity of it. And I mean this like I've tried
(07:37):
to avoid as much as I can on social media.
We obviously know the Bengals playing Madrid against the Falcons
that came out on Tuesday. I have seen the report
that the Bengals play on New Year's Eve against the
Baltimore Ravens. That's been hard to ignore them. By the way,
I think that's cool as hell playing on New Year's
Eve night at home in a game that has a
very good chance of carrying a lot of weight. Like,
(07:58):
I'm here for that. Beyond that, I got nothing else.
I don't know. I don't want to know. I don't
want to know what my Christmas presents are a week
before Christmas. I don't want to know what they are
the day before Christmas on Christmas Eve. I like the
NCAA Tournament Selection show feel to tonight, and so I'm
not gonna come after people who decide to put that
(08:20):
information out there if that's something they feel like is
in their best interest. Personally or professionally. Do your thing.
Me I'm not interested, and I do feel like, as
much as you do you, I do feel like the
fact that so much gets leaked on a day like today.
I don't want to say it ruins tonight, it makes
(08:40):
it slightly less fun. Like the NCAA tournament on Selection Sunday,
which is my favorite day in all of sports, we
had a schedule leak or a bracket leak. I think
that was twenty I think that was twenty sixteen. Bearcats
were in the eight to nine game against Saint Joe's
that year and this schedule leaked, and I found it
(09:02):
amusing because chaos unfolded on the internet. I thought it
was a in some ways a rebuke of how CBS
was handling the bracket that year, where they just drag
things out. I believe that show that year was two
hours long, and it's like, you know what, if you're
not going to get right to it, which is what
we want find here's the bracket. We could all see it,
but it did undermine the event just a little bit.
(09:23):
The great thing about Selection Sunday is we basically we
all find out together, like we find out who's in
the tournament at the same time the teams in the
tournament and not in the tournament find out who's in
the tournament. We find out what the matchups are and
where everybody is going at the same exact time as
the participants. We all find out the same thing together,
(09:46):
And I think that makes that day unique. I think
that makes that day special. It is I think a
little bit easier to keep under wraps a sixty eight
or unfortunately soon to be seventy sixteen bracket than it
is an NFL's schedule featuring thirty two teams at a
whole bunch of different venues and different television networks and
streaming services. Like, it's more difficult to keep that under wraps.
(10:09):
And we have some awesome people covering the NFL who
have sources and ways of finding out when certain games
are going to be played. But I can only speak
for myself. What I like about tonight is we're all
supposed to find out together. And again, if your thing
today has been to find out when the Bengals play
(10:29):
the Steelers, and like, there's a practical part of that
that makes sense, I'll admit it. Right, Like, if you
can get a heads up on win a game and
a certain road destination is going to be and you
can get a jumpstart on booking a hotel or a flight.
Like I understand that I'd rather just sort of have
it all come out at the same time tonight and
us all react to it together. So we'll do that
(10:51):
tonight on the schedule, Lease show six to midnight on
a seven hundred WLW. First two hours are gonna be
Lance and Rocky, and then Tony and I are going
to do eight to ten Austin and the Chickster will
handle ten to midnight tonight, and it really is one
of the most fun nights in all of sports. It's
kind of the last mile post before you get to
(11:13):
actual football in terms of things to pay attention to.
I think my take is basically the same as everybody
else's from purely the standpoint of hoping the Bengals have
the best possible season. I want to know how many
AFC North teams they play early, because when you're in
a division of transition, when you have all the new
(11:35):
coaches that the AFC North has, and you can apply
this to other teams on the Bengals schedule as well.
I want to play as many of those games as
possible as early as possible, so we'll see if the
schedule makers do them any favors tonight. By the way,
if that New Year's Eve game against Baltimore, which has
been widely reported ends up being a thing that's a
(11:55):
Thursday night, that would tell you the Bengals are not
going to go to Baltimore on a Thursday for a
fourth consecutive year. Sixteen after three o'clock. There's lots of
ground to cover between now and six. We've got some
of the folks involved with the event here today at Mcateewall.
By the way, the sun has peaked out. It has
been overcast for much of the early portion of the afternoon,
and I would call today I'm not a meteorologist, I
(12:18):
could barely do this job well, but I would call
today partly cloudy, but the sun has peaked out and
pretty nice weather for golf. I believe that is going
to be the case all week and long with warmer
temperatures Tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday, we'll step away. We'll have
an instant reaction from Great American Ballpark. Reds beat the
Nationals fifteen to one today behind four dingers and six
(12:40):
very good innings again from Chase Burns that coming up
here in just a few minutes. Seventeen after three o'clock
broadcasting from the Queen City Championship presented by PNG. Here
at Mcateewah. Seventeen after three. This is ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
Station, Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty traffic.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
From the UC Health Traffic Center Lock.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
This is ESPN fifteen thirty Moegger broadcasting from Mcateewah, home
of this year's Queen City Championship, presented by P ANDNG.
And the cool thing about this event a lot of
players who are here who have local ties, including the
three time Big East Golfer of the Year from Xavier
and Duke but for our purposes from Xavier. M. Mc
(13:26):
miler is with us, fresh off the course even part today.
It's awesome to have you.
Speaker 4 (13:31):
Thank you for having me.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
I could tell I interview a lot of people, and
I could tell when I talked to an elite competitor,
because you're sitting there, and I could tell, as you're
waiting to go on, you're like replaying a round. You're
locked in, right, Yeah, yeah, Well, well I appreciate you
doing this because I know you have a lot going
on this weekend. Well, how did you feel about your
day to day?
Speaker 5 (13:51):
I had a solid round out there. It was pretty
proud of how I was able to fight whenever I
was faced with adversity. So did a lot of good things.
I'm going to take into tomorrow and clean up the
mistakes that I had out there.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Now, you know this course like the back of your
hand in a way.
Speaker 5 (14:05):
Yeah, it's been a little while, but I'm refamiliarizing myself
with it and it's fun to get out there.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
Very good. How cool is it? I know you've played
in this event before when it was a ken with
How cool is it now to be on the LPGA
Tour as a rookie. You're back in Cincinnati. You played it,
Xavier had such an illustrious career. Now you're playing in
an event in the town that you went to school in.
Speaker 5 (14:23):
Yeah, it feels like I'm coming home in a way.
It's awesome to get back here, and it's somewhat of
a full circle moment for me, having played in the
event as a sponsor's invite whenever I was in college
and coming back now as an LPGA Tour, remember, is
really awesome and getting this opportunity to compete another week
is something that I'm super grateful for.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
Now, these are going to sound like dumb questions because
that's that's what I do. So you had an illustrious
collegiate career, played it Xavier, played at Duke, and then
you're on the tour, Like, so how do you how
does it? How do you go from collegiate golf to
now you're a rookie on the LPGA Tour. Walk me
through that path?
Speaker 5 (14:58):
Just a lot of work over the year is really
just putting in the work, practicing hard and knowing that
if I continue to improve every day that I'll reach
my goals. And I still have a lot of goals
for myself and big aspirations and I'm just going to
continue to work towards them.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
Right Yeah, But I mean, like, you know, you don't
just call up the guy who runs the LPGA Tour
and go, hey, I can I get on board? It
doesn't work that way. So, like the time between including
college and now on the tour, walked me through some
of the steps you had to take.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
Right.
Speaker 5 (15:26):
I played in Q school following college in the fall
and then was able to earn epsent Tour status last year.
So I played out on the EPs and Tour for
a year and then went back to Q School and
made it through Stage two and then in stage three
as well, I burdied five of my last six holes
to earn my LPGA Tour card at the final stage.
So that was pretty awesome to get that done. And
(15:48):
now I've earned the right to be out here. So
it's awesome.
Speaker 1 (15:50):
I love how matter of fact you are about that.
If I ever birdied five out of six holes, you
do not know how I would have a hard time
containing my excitement and just told it to me like
I was telling you they got my car washed or something.
Speaker 5 (16:03):
Right. Yeah, it was pretty awesome. I was kind of
in the zone and just kept making Bertie after Bertie.
I knew I needed to make something happen if I
wanted to qualify, So it was awesome to get to
do that and be out here this year.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
You're from Texas, yes, sir? How did you end up
in Xavier from Texas?
Speaker 5 (16:17):
I played in the US Junior Girls whenever I was
in high school, and that's kind of how I connected
with the coach that was here Brianna Jenko and came
up here and went on a visit and really fell
in love.
Speaker 6 (16:26):
With this place. Makatiwa.
Speaker 5 (16:28):
The facilities that they have out here as well as
the school just kind of felt like home when you
went to Xavier.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
Obviously you have aspirations to be on the LPGA Tour.
That's your goal. But did you did you show up
at x thinking if I if I do what I'm
supposed to do and if I win all these accolades,
I will be on the LPGA Tour. Did you have
that as like something that felt realistic when you started
college golf.
Speaker 5 (16:51):
It definitely didn't feel realistic whenever I entered college golf.
When I came here, the expectations were can I make
the lineup? I really didn't know how good I could be.
I knew I had a lot of potential in the sport.
I kind of started a little bit later than some
so I just was gonna work hard and see where
the game took me. I mean, playing on the LPGA
Tour was such a far fetched dream, and to be
living that reality is pretty cool. But when I came here,
(17:14):
I just wanted to enjoy the experience of college golf
and really had fun with my teammates and enjoyed all
that college golf gave me.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
The coach is like barely older than you guys.
Speaker 5 (17:24):
Yeah, I know, she's pretty awesome. She's also accomplished a
lot of things as a coach.
Speaker 4 (17:28):
It's pretty great.
Speaker 1 (17:29):
Yeah, And so what is what is a weekend like this?
And maybe it's a little bit different because you're in
a town that you lived in, But what is a
weekend like off the course beyond what we see?
Speaker 5 (17:39):
Yeah, I'm staying with a host this week, a member
here at Makatiwa. They've been pretty generous to open up
their home, so just off the course, I'm just trying
to enjoy myself, get away from golf. I know my
host they actually have two horses, which is pretty cool.
So I've fed the horses a little bit and they
have two dogs as well, So kind of just when
you stay with the host, it feels like a homo
(17:59):
way from home. So they've been super generous for us,
and so we've just been hanging out. I know my
San Antonio Spurs. They're playing in the playoffs this week,
so yeah, we'll be watching the game on Friday.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
I think it is Friday.
Speaker 5 (18:10):
Yeah, yeah, So just trying and watch them sports, get
away from golf and just enjoy myself.
Speaker 1 (18:14):
Is that hard to do during a weekend when you're competing,
to get your mind away from the round you just
played and then the one you want to play tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (18:22):
It definitely can be. It can be difficult to try
and separate golf from your life because sometimes you feel
like golf encompasses your whole life. But trying to have
that balance of home life and work life can be
pretty important to making sure that you're not all golf, golf,
golf all the time.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
Right. Yeah, Oh well that's now walk me through. You
ended up at Duke for a year, and you had
a great season playing at Duke. Why could you stay?
Xavier wouldn't keep you? Well?
Speaker 5 (18:50):
I wanted to kind of grow, see how far I
could grow, because Avery was great for my growth the
three years that I was here, and I got my
degree here and I felt like I fulfilled my obligations
and I learned a lot, but I felt like I
still had more to learn. So going to Duke and
pushing myself there, playing against some really great players and
playing in some great tournaments under the head coach Dan Brooks,
who's won so many national championships and has had such
(19:13):
success with players coming out onto the LPGA tour. I
wanted to kind of learn from them and see what
I could do at Duke, and then that helped me
throughout my professional career.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
Now, wow, that's pretty awesome. Well, I'm rooting for you
this weekend, and I know you know you just play
it and it's like the last thing I want to
do is sit down and talk to a guy like me.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
So no, it's great.
Speaker 1 (19:33):
I appreciate you doing this. We're going to be following
you this weekend and beyond, and best of luck and congrats.
Today was a good round. I mean, how would you
just give me the blanket assessment? If I shot even par,
I'd quit like, I'm never going to do better than that.
How did you? I mean, how would you break down
how you played today?
Speaker 5 (19:50):
I would say it was a good round, but I'm
not satisfied.
Speaker 4 (19:52):
I got more.
Speaker 5 (19:53):
I got more to do throughout the rest of the week,
and we're going to keep pushing and hopefully make some birdies.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
Okay, I hope that happens, Yes, sir, thank you much,
very good that's M mcmiler from Xavier and Duke playing
this week in the LPGA event here at MCINTEEWA the
Kroger Queen City Championship presented by PNG. We are broadcasting
here until six o'clock. We'll go to GABP for Red's
reaction coming up in about twenty minutes on ESPN fifteen
(20:19):
thirty Cincinnati Sports.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
Station, Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty Traffic from.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
The twenty six away from four o'clock. That commercial is
not going to get on my nerves at all. This
is ESPN fifteen thirty on Mohegger broadcasting from MCINTEEUAH home
this year of the Kroger Queen City Championship presented by PNG.
The LPGA tour intown this weekend. An awesome event and
thrilled to get a chance into our show from here
(20:48):
for a second consecutive year. Fun chatting with M mcmiler
from Xavier. Now we're joined by Casey Seaman, who is
the vice president of Tournament Business Affairs for the LPGA.
That sounds that sounds complex, That sounds fancy.
Speaker 7 (21:01):
Yeah it's not as bad as it thinks, no, but yeah, it.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
Sounds like it seems like you would have a lot
under your umbrella with a job title like that.
Speaker 8 (21:08):
There is a little bit. It's a complex tour that
we have, but that's a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (21:12):
This is we were just talking off air a I
was excited when and this is nothing against the previous
venue or the previous two venues. I was excited when
you guys were posting up here, and I was excited
when the tournament moved to the middle of May, because
this is the sweet spot for golfers.
Speaker 9 (21:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (21:29):
I mean we're sitting here on the patio looking out
on this savior practicacility. It's beautiful weather, the players are
enjoying themselves. Macattee has been an incredible host for us,
and I think just the history with it with Barney
Kroger and William Proctor, and it all just ties together
so perfectly with the partners we have here.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
So the LPGA Tour comes to Cincinnati a few years
ago and it's bounced around a little bit. How do
you how do you determine where you're going to go?
Is that an invitation? How do you end up here?
Speaker 7 (21:57):
It's a complex process.
Speaker 8 (21:58):
I think we're always looking to be at a place
that really wants to have us as opposed to forcing something.
Mcatooa has opened just arms wide open to have us.
Their membership is out volunteering, their loving every second of it.
And I think, you know, golf course is super important
to us. You want to find a course that's a
good test. This is a beautiful Donald Ross design course,
(22:19):
like the players love. They said it's a little hilly
for them, but I think they've it's been rave reviews
so far.
Speaker 1 (22:26):
Yeah. So, I mean you're looking for a high end
golf courses, right, give me two or three of the
things just from a golf perspective that you're looking for.
Speaker 7 (22:32):
Yeah, I think you always start with the competition. That's
what's most important.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
Right.
Speaker 8 (22:36):
We have our rules team and Agronomus heads around checks
out some courses in each market that we're in, and
so it always starts with the competition. But then it's
also about the fans set up, how close yard of
the city mentioned. We're a lot closer to Cincinnati this year,
which is cool. I mean I remember I was driving
through downtown and it used to be another forty minutes
up the highway and now I like, look down at
(22:56):
my GPS, I'm like eight minutes away from the golf course.
Speaker 1 (22:58):
Yeah, it's you're twenty minutes from everywhere here.
Speaker 7 (23:01):
Yeah, yeah, perfect.
Speaker 8 (23:02):
Yeah, And the players love it because they can get
downtown theyn go have a nice dinner, they can go
to baseball game, what else?
Speaker 7 (23:06):
And it's a what do.
Speaker 1 (23:08):
What do players say? Or they're looking for in a
tour stop beyond you know, championship golf course and you know,
I mean that sort of thing, beyond that, what are
they looking for?
Speaker 8 (23:15):
Yeah, I mean they love playing in front of big crowd,
So that's always something we're gonna look for.
Speaker 7 (23:19):
We want to be in a place where we're gonna
draw nice attendance.
Speaker 8 (23:23):
Golf course is important if you really get into the
nitty gritty, they're going to talk about the food and
player dining, and they're gonna talk about the locker rooms
and things like that. But it's a it's a there's
a lot that goes into it, and then it's not
easy to pick golf courses. But when you find a
place like this, I think it's really special.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
Yeah. So it's it's the middle of a it's mcte WA.
It's also it's seeming like a great time on the
LPGA tour.
Speaker 8 (23:44):
It is it's uh, this is you know, I've been
here a little over three years and the most exciting
time in my tenure here.
Speaker 7 (23:51):
You probably saw.
Speaker 8 (23:52):
We announced a great new broadcast partnership with fm UH
to enhance our broadcast. We want to put these players
on the ultimate stage for the world to see. We're
gonna be playing for almost one hundred and forty million
dollars this year across the season, which is a new
record for us.
Speaker 7 (24:07):
You know.
Speaker 8 (24:07):
You see, Nellie's been having an exact year. We're all
kind of riding the Nelly wave and see if it
keeps going. I haven't seen what she's shooting yet today,
but it's it's been a really fun year.
Speaker 1 (24:16):
And I think the trickle down effect that I noticed this.
I've got a nine year old and I've I've begged her,
like we can we can get some clubs and we
can get out and hit. And she's not quite there yet.
But a lot of kids, a lot of young ladies,
a lot of young girls are getting into golf and
that speaks to the popularity of the tour totally.
Speaker 8 (24:32):
And I mean I was out watching when Nelly Gino
and Lydia are all tee and off.
Speaker 7 (24:37):
I mean, what a power group.
Speaker 8 (24:38):
And there's like the fans are like four people deep
all around the tee and sitting on the back patio
here like a roar from outside. Somebody made a birdie
putt and you know you don't you don't see that
every week. And but I think to your point, the
momentum is real and we're super excity.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
Yeah, what do you think that The reason for that is, you.
Speaker 8 (24:55):
Know, it's it starts and ends with the players and
trying to well we're really focused on is trying to
showcase player personalities, get our fans to know them. I
think you see that a lot on the PGA tour.
You have you know, ten to twenty maybe thirty players
that fans know really well, and I think we haven't
had that, and so we're trying to really form these
(25:15):
really intimate connections between the fans and the players. So
when you flip it on TV, you know, two or
three of the names on the leaderboard at a minimum,
and then I think from there it all just kind
of snowballs.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
He answer this for me because we did the show
at the event last year and I had buddies of
mine say like, well, what is it like when you
go and I go, You like get tickets to come
check it out? Right, even if you're not a hardcore golfer,
like you love the layout, There's lots to do. It's
a cool scene from your perspective. If somebody's listening to
this one, I've never been to an event before, but
maybe this weekend I'll show up, going to have good weather.
(25:47):
What sort of things will they experience?
Speaker 8 (25:48):
What I always tell people is it is such an
intimate experience. If you go to you know, say a
PGA Tour event or a Major League Baseball game or
an NFL game, you're not anywhere near the players, right
And when you come out here, you're to be standing
right next to these players. You're gonna be right up
on the driving range watching them warm up.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
That's my favorite part.
Speaker 7 (26:05):
That's it.
Speaker 8 (26:05):
Yeah, And you have this connection with players, and I
think when people show up and see it, they feel
it and they take it away.
Speaker 7 (26:11):
And you know, I say the same.
Speaker 8 (26:12):
Thing about our pro ams, like our players are so personable,
and I think that's what differentiates us.
Speaker 7 (26:17):
And it's a real asset.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
Yeah. I said this last year. I can't go to
a Reds game and have people stand behind the batting
cage when Ellie deler Cruiz takes batting practice. But you
can stand there and be yards away from some of
the greatest players in the world as they practice much less,
follow them for eighteen.
Speaker 7 (26:32):
Holes totally and half of them.
Speaker 8 (26:33):
If you're standing out on the fifthte and they're waiting
to hit their shot, they'll just start talking to you.
I mean, it's like, you don't see that. There's not
another sport in the world where that happens.
Speaker 1 (26:41):
Yeah, beyond the golf part of it, give folks and
ideas some of the things they'll see when they come
out this weekend.
Speaker 8 (26:47):
Yeah, it's a super community focused event. Kroger and p
ANDNG are like so bought in on making this a
fan friendly experience where you can come out. It's not
just to watch golf. It's to bring your kids out,
have a good time, eat some good food. And they
do this event for the city of Cincinnati. It's not
for anything else, Like they want this to be an
(27:07):
incredible time to come out. They've got their a bunch
of their brands are all over the place, which is
really cool. Some interactive experience for the fans. So it's
just it's it's an incredible day. Just come out and
enjoy yoursel This.
Speaker 1 (27:18):
Event itself goes back to twenty twenty two, so it's
still a relatively new event. How does the LPGA end
up in Cincinnati?
Speaker 7 (27:26):
You know, it's funny.
Speaker 8 (27:27):
Cincinnati is actually almost a perfect market for us. We
really thrive in mid sized markets. Can get a little
bit lost in the New York's and LA's world when
and especially when you have Kroger and p ANDNG that
really is that a.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
General way of saying there's nothing going on here? No?
Speaker 7 (27:43):
No, Well, what's ironic about it is Cincinnati.
Speaker 8 (27:47):
It's cool that there's still baseball of you have all
these sports, but it doesn't feel overwhelming, correct, And I
think that's what's cool. It's like people come out and
they're like, this is like the thing to do this week,
And when you go to some cities there's like fifty
things to do. Yeah, So I think that's what's cool
about Cincinnati. It's a really cool size market.
Speaker 1 (28:04):
Do events move on the calendar often? Because this started
as late summer I think late August, early September, and
now it's middle of me.
Speaker 8 (28:12):
Yeah, we're always really focused on the routing that we
have for our players. As you probably know, we're playing
all over the world or place seven times in Asia,
three times in Europe, Canada, Mexico, and so for our players,
we want to have our player to build a schedule
for them that makes a lot of sense. And geographically
it's easy to navigate, so you're not going from LA
to London to Korea to so yes is the short
(28:34):
answer is like we need to move these around it
and as events fall off and add on, it always
takes a little bit of a reshuffle.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
Well, you guys have very quickly sort of carved out
a niche space on the Cincinnati sports calendar and it's cool.
I mean I said to you off air and on
doing it this time of year, I think makes a
lot of sense. You kind of get the weekend to
yourself and it's a lot of fun.
Speaker 8 (28:54):
Yeah, we can't wait, and I'm looking forward to an
incredible weekend and I hope we get a lot of
fans out to the golf hope.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
So well, thanks for having me and thanks for stopping by.
Speaker 7 (29:03):
Appreciate it, Thanks having me.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
You got it. That's Casey Seamen, the vice president of
Tournament business Affairs for the lp GA. It is seventeen
from four o'clock. We're broadcasting from mctee while, home of
this year's Kroger Queen City Championship presented by PNG on
ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
Station, Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
Traffic from the UC health.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
Trade question at the right time and by the way,
sports headlines are a service to Kelsey Shervian Lay, home
of lifetime powertrain protection and a guarantee credit approval from
their family to yours for life kelseyshev dot com. I'm
doing this later than usual because we've had folks to
talk to. Redsbeat the Nationals today fifteen to one at
GABP Cincinnati. Four long ones. JJ Bledet had two of them,
(29:52):
he drove in six. Dane Myers went deep, so did
Matt McLain, so did Blake Dunn. Blake Dunn did not deep.
I don't know why I wrote that down. Blake done
went over four. Chase Barton's pitch well today and six
innings of a two head shutout. Baseball Cincinnati snaps a
two game losing streak Reds are back above five hundred.
(30:13):
They're off to Cleveland for a three game series this weekend.
It'll be a six game road trip that also takes
them to Philadelphia. You'll hear from some of the particulars
from GABP in just a few minutes. What else do
we have? We've got the Florence Yawls hosting the Mississippi
mud Monsters tonight, FC Cincinnati coming off their loss last
(30:33):
night to enter Miami. What else do we have? We
have got playoffs, got playoff action. The NBA playoffs are
dark tonight, but two games tomorrow Pistons and Calves. After
Detroit's collapsed last night in Game five, Cleveland's up three
games to two, a chance to close it out at home,
and San Antonio up three to two in their series
(30:54):
against Minnesota, Game six tomorrow night in Minneapolis. The Detroit
game last night, I felt like they were in total
control until they weren't. Two hockey games tonight in the
NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, Buffalo hosting Montreal, that series tied
at two, and the Ducks hosting the Golden Knights. Las
Vegas leeds that series three games to two. Game six
(31:16):
this evening in Anaheim. Reds win the ball game tonight
fifth or today, fifteen to one over the Washington Nationals,
a laugher, A much needed laugher for the Reds. Here
Cincinnati manager Tito Francota meeting with the assembled pro baseball
media afterward, like.
Speaker 10 (31:35):
A broken record, But what did you like about what
made a burn so effective today? I thought his.
Speaker 11 (31:42):
Break them all was very good, and they made him
work a little bit, and then you know, he had
the where he didn't handle the ball first, probably cost
him an inning because he ended up throwing I think
fifteen pitches after that. But man, when he needs to
reach back with runners on and then he can, you know,
he can speed him up with the fastball and then
(32:03):
he spends it so well, that's a that's a good combination.
Speaker 10 (32:06):
So many bright spots on offense today. I guess I'll
ask what did you like about the offense?
Speaker 11 (32:14):
I'm trying to think. I want to say this correctly.
We had a we had good vibes going in today
and that broke out the the the.
Speaker 1 (32:24):
Tito speedo.
Speaker 11 (32:27):
And kind of had a good feeling going in.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
That was the whole game.
Speaker 9 (32:41):
Poor guy.
Speaker 11 (32:45):
I tried to spring and I almost suffocated. I thought
there was to your point, it was nice to our
guy swing the bat, you know, and we we we
we did some really good things early and we kept going.
That's that was good to see and we needed a
game like this.
Speaker 9 (33:05):
Oh, he was like everybody, you know, and you guys
have been going through it.
Speaker 11 (33:11):
Yeah, and we've been on the other side of that too,
too much. And so you take it when you can
get it, and you know, use it to your advantage.
Speaker 8 (33:19):
Speaking of Ujja is really kind of established.
Speaker 9 (33:24):
So you guys talked about.
Speaker 7 (33:25):
Wanting to contain that spot.
Speaker 1 (33:27):
Yeah, he's done a really good job. I agree with you,
Terry Frankcota. I guess he was referring to a Micnapoli
wearing a speedo in the clubhouse today, and I'm glad
I didn't see that. Chase Burns outstanding today. Chase Burns
has made nine starts this season. In six of them,
he has allowed one run or less, including today's six
shutout innings against Washington. Here is Chase with the assembled
(33:50):
local Pro Baseball media.
Speaker 10 (33:54):
Chase, what was the key to your effectiveness today?
Speaker 1 (33:58):
Just getting ahead to our approach.
Speaker 12 (34:00):
We had a good game plan going into me and
Trevy just executing pitches. Uh A lot of lefties out
line up just trying to get the ball inside.
Speaker 9 (34:07):
Do him more?
Speaker 1 (34:09):
Are these thing starts just starting to kind of feel
expected for you?
Speaker 12 (34:13):
Uh No, every time I go out there, you know,
I have a plan, so just to go out there
and doing my job, trying to put as many zero
as I can on the board.
Speaker 9 (34:21):
So what do you know?
Speaker 4 (34:25):
You games?
Speaker 12 (34:29):
You know, after every inning, I think just going back
talking to DJ what I did right, what I did wrong,
and then attacking the next guy. But when you have
quick ginnings, I feel like I'm in a pretty good rhythm.
Speaker 9 (34:41):
Did shoot did you see that on the speed un
or I did not?
Speaker 1 (34:44):
I have no clue what that's about.
Speaker 12 (34:46):
So no clue.
Speaker 7 (34:48):
Apparently you were in Tuo Speedo when that was seeing.
Speaker 9 (34:50):
Uh key, yeah.
Speaker 12 (34:53):
I mean anything that gets the boys going, I guess.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
I don't know.
Speaker 8 (34:56):
Is there anyone who can serve some credit, quiet and
mind scenes with your great start to.
Speaker 12 (35:01):
The year of person Travino. I mean me and him
have gotten really close over this past year, and you
know that guy believes in me, so just having a
lot of confidence in me, and you know he trusts me.
And I trust him, so you know, big shout out
to Trevino.
Speaker 9 (35:18):
See oft started early in the game.
Speaker 12 (35:21):
Can be really you know how they was what gives
me a lot of confidence, you know, anytime we can
get ahead. But then again, my jobs have go out
there and put up a zero right after that SOT.
Speaker 13 (35:34):
Picture buy and Chase you take in being a st
team struggling and they turned.
Speaker 1 (35:40):
You by spot to a lot.
Speaker 12 (35:43):
Uh yeah, I mean we're just round the wave right now,
good days and bad days. So I'm just going out
there and trying to get the boys fired up. And
like I said, do my job.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
That's staff. Is Chase Burns talking after today's fifteen to
one Red's victory over the Washington Nationals, And obviously it
got silly at the end because like Jose Travino this
past Friday, Joey Weimer, the former Bearcat was called on
to pitch for Washington. But a terrific start for Chase
Burns nonetheless, and I mentioned before nine outings this year
he has given up one run or less in six
(36:17):
of them. JJ Bleday a pair of homers today. JJ
Bladay has been terrific and a savior for this offense.
He's now homered six times, has an OPS above twelve hundred. Now,
these aren't the sort of numbers that you're gonna expect
JJ blday to put up as the season unfolds. But
it's completely reasonable to wonder should he have been on
the big league club on opening day? Because they acquired
(36:39):
him this offseason for a reason. He had a very
good camp, put up good numbers in spring training, didn't
start the season on the opening day roster. Maybe he
should have. It's a good thing he's here now. JJ
talked with the assembled Pro Baseball media at GABP.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
All Right, guys, thank you very much.
Speaker 1 (36:57):
JJ.
Speaker 14 (36:57):
How nice was it to be able to just sit
back I can enjoy a big lead today?
Speaker 1 (37:02):
That was awesome.
Speaker 7 (37:03):
I mean we did we did good.
Speaker 15 (37:04):
We came out swinging and made some good adjustments and
h and got up quick.
Speaker 14 (37:09):
You drive in six today, two three run home runs.
Can you take us through each home run at bat?
Speaker 1 (37:15):
Yeah? That third at bat, first so run.
Speaker 15 (37:17):
You know, I was just trying to, you know, get
the head out a little bit more. He was kind
of getting on me a little bit those first two
up bats. Made the adjustment and and put a good
swing on it and then you know the others was
just trying to get something good to hit and not
do too much. And you know, thankfully great American helped
me out on that second one.
Speaker 14 (37:36):
Speaking of adjustments, what adjustment? This game is always about
making adjustments. What adjustments did you make in the off
season coming into a Red's uniform?
Speaker 3 (37:45):
Is is there anything you can pinpoint that you changed.
Speaker 15 (37:48):
I'm just trying to be an athlete and be fluid
with my swing. I feel like last year I was
too stagnant and didn't have a lot of rhythm.
Speaker 1 (37:55):
So the main thing for me this off season was.
Speaker 15 (37:59):
Get that fluidity, get that athleticism back, and challenge myself,
you know, don't just do flips and VP all the time,
Like challenge yourself to get mixed VP and mix and
mixed flips.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
And that's helped a lot.
Speaker 14 (38:11):
How impressive was Chase Burns today and when you're trying
to break a losing streak. Pretty good guy to have
on the bump, is he not?
Speaker 1 (38:17):
Yeah?
Speaker 15 (38:17):
We have so much faith in that guy. He's electric
with this stuff and I miss nt He's.
Speaker 1 (38:22):
On our team.
Speaker 3 (38:23):
Appreciate the time.
Speaker 1 (38:23):
Congratulations on the w Thanks Jim that's a jj BLEDA.
And when I said meeting with the assembled Pro Baseball
Media in Talent, I was referring to Jim Day. We
stole that from Red's TV. That's because we subscribe to
Red's TV, and because we pay one hundred dollars a
year for Red's TV, we're allowed to steal their audio.
So that's that comes with That's I don't know if
you read the fine print in the subscription. If you
(38:44):
host a radio show or a podcast, you're allowed to
steal their audio. It comes with the subscription. So just
in case you haven't taken advantage of that, you're going
to want to jj blde A big day, pair of
three run homers, Reds win fifteen to one over the Nationals.
The Ohio Cup on the line this weekend, Reds and
Guard in Cleveland. More on that coming up here in
a bit. We're broadcasting today. This is it's gotten really
(39:06):
pretty out where at Mcateewah. It's the Kroger Queen City
Championship presented by P ANDNG, the LPGA Tours here. We've
got more Bengals schedule release stuff to get to a
little bit later on, and we're gonna chat with the
Bearcat next on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. In
chapter four o'clock, this is ESPN fifteen thirty lm Oegger
(39:26):
on a busy Thursday. An't lots going on? Rets Win
fifteen to one today over the Washington Nationals NFL schedule
release is tonight. We are broadcasting today from Mcateewah hosting
the Kroger Queen City Championship presented by P ANDNG. The
LPGA Tour is in town and day one unfolding as
(39:47):
we speak, and the folks here incredibly hospitable to us.
It's great to get a chance to sit down with
a young lady who just got off the course. I
believe your first ever LPGA round here in a answer invitation,
Alice Rhymer from the University of Cincinnati. It's the Pride
of England, is it, guess bro.
Speaker 6 (40:06):
England, England, Gainsborough.
Speaker 1 (40:08):
Gainesbor, England. My apologies, Well thanks for doing this.
Speaker 6 (40:11):
Yeah, of course, thank you for having me a.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
Two over for the day. Yeah, your first ever LPGA round, right,
and you look incredibly composed. Yeah.
Speaker 16 (40:19):
No, it's just super cool to be out here. I
had a lot of fun out there today. So that
was the main goal, just have as much fun as
humanly possible and go and enjoy myself.
Speaker 1 (40:28):
So, well, I appreciate you doing this. You golf at
the University of Cincinnati. You came from NC State. Yes,
how did you find your way from England to NC
State to now the University of Cincinnati?
Speaker 16 (40:42):
Just through like a lot of people that came from England,
like people that have been in my footsteps, that know
other people. That's how I got my spot at ANTI State.
And then luckily enough, both of my coaches are actually
English at UC, so that helped a little bit. And
then I knew one of the girls that was also
coached by my head coach. So it was just nice
to like put connections together. And now I'm at UC
(41:03):
and it's it's great.
Speaker 1 (41:04):
You like it.
Speaker 6 (41:05):
I love you.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
See Yeah, yeah, So you're gonna stay around? Gon gonna
go somewhere else?
Speaker 6 (41:10):
No, I'm staying. I'm staying for good.
Speaker 1 (41:11):
Well, now you know you're on the your Xavier's home course.
How you feel about that?
Speaker 16 (41:15):
You know they have a nice home course. I have those,
I'll give it to them. No, it's just cool to
be in Cincinnati. Like everybody around here is familiar that
everybody's rooting for Bearcats and Xavier as well, so it's
nice to have people that support Cincinnati kids.
Speaker 1 (41:30):
Yeah, folks have played this who are listening to this
have have played this course, but they haven't played it
at the highest level. So so walk us through what
the course is like from your perspective.
Speaker 16 (41:39):
Yeah, so right now out here this week, the course
is very tight and the rough is thick. It's real thick.
So this week is just all about like trying to
keep the ball in play and hit fairways and greens
because as soon as you miss fairways, like it gets
real tricky out there.
Speaker 1 (41:55):
Yeah, so you played today, you're gonna play tomorrow. What
sort of things that maybe did you learn about the
course today that you could apply to maybe a better
round tomorrow.
Speaker 16 (42:03):
Yeah, the greens are a lot slower than what I
expected them to be, So take that into account into
account and yeah move from there. Really that was where
I dropped most of my shots. I had a few
three ports out there today just from bad pace and
bad speed from myself. So yeah, just been working on
that a little bit, and then take that into tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (42:23):
Yeah, Uh, when did you start playing what age you
pick up a club.
Speaker 2 (42:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (42:26):
So I started playing when I was five.
Speaker 1 (42:28):
Wow.
Speaker 6 (42:28):
Yeah, so I've been playing sixteen years now.
Speaker 1 (42:31):
Unbelievable. Wow. And then when when did like the opportunity
to play college golf? When did you think about, like,
you know what I could I could make, I could
do something with this.
Speaker 6 (42:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 16 (42:40):
So for me, like college golf was always on the radar.
I came and I've been watching Open championships with these
guys out here since I've been at ten nine or
ten so, and I started to realize, like, that's the
route that they took. So and it's always been my
goal to play on the LPGA. So I realized, Okay,
if this is something I want to do, like, going
(43:00):
to America is probably the.
Speaker 17 (43:02):
Best route, okay, especially because.
Speaker 16 (43:04):
The weather out here is way better than what it
is in England, and the facilities are way better out
here as well. There's more opportunities to play competitive golf
all throughout the year. So it was just the right
route for me.
Speaker 1 (43:14):
And when you get the call that you're going to
be invited to this event, that had to be just
an unbelievable moment.
Speaker 6 (43:19):
Yeah, it was crazy, It was really crazy. It came
out of the blue.
Speaker 16 (43:22):
Did not expect it at all, but really yeah, yeah,
I actually had my flight booked to go home last Saturday.
Speaker 1 (43:28):
Really, so this came very quick.
Speaker 6 (43:29):
Yeah, very quick. I found out the middle of last week,
so really yeah.
Speaker 1 (43:33):
And then so you have to rearrange everything. But you
know one of those moments that you know, wherever your
career takes Shoe, you're never going to forget.
Speaker 16 (43:41):
No, exactly, this is this is the first week of
my LPGA career hopefully, and with it being in Cincinnati,
it's just it's amazing.
Speaker 1 (43:48):
Yeah. You know, if I was in your shoes, and
you're much more composed and obviously more talented than me,
but if I was in your shoes, there would be
a part of me looking around gold. I know who
some of these players are. I'm watching them on television.
Is there any of that?
Speaker 6 (44:01):
Yeah, one hundred percent. It's funny. Actually, I played with
Paula Rito today.
Speaker 16 (44:04):
And I have a picture of me and her back
in twenty sixteen, I think when I went.
Speaker 6 (44:09):
And watched some Open championships.
Speaker 16 (44:11):
Yeah, and the same with Charlie, like I've seen her
and Open championships for years for years, like since I've
been like ten, So just seeing people like that about
is like really surreal.
Speaker 1 (44:21):
Yeah, we're the coolest places you play collegiately, Like they'll
give me some of the best courses.
Speaker 16 (44:25):
We went out to California that was pretty cool, and
then we was in Arizona.
Speaker 1 (44:29):
Now when you say California, you don't mean the public
course on the east side, right, Okay, just checking, Yeah,
because I like that course.
Speaker 16 (44:35):
Yeah, we was in Napa, which was really sweet, and
then we was in Arizona like not long before that
as well, right, like in the mountains, So that was
super cool.
Speaker 1 (44:43):
And practicing like you're you know, it's it's hard to
get out to a golf course every single day. My
understanding is the practice facility at UC is really good. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (44:52):
The indoor is unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (44:53):
Yeah, it really is. Yeah. And then obviously as a Bearica,
I mean you follow like basketball and football on yeah,
yeah try to Yeah, I mean did you know anything
about football before he came over?
Speaker 16 (45:03):
Before I came to the States, I had no idea,
no clue, no clue. I mean my first football game
that I went to, I was just clapping when everyone
else was clapping.
Speaker 1 (45:10):
That at NC State it was yeah, and now at
Knippert Stadium. Yeah.
Speaker 16 (45:13):
Now at nipput it's like and I kind of know
what's going on a little bit more so, right yeah.
Speaker 1 (45:17):
Probably more than me, and be honest with you, awesome,
and so at the university is in saying now, I
think there's a lot of folks who would be surprised
to hear you say, like playing in America maybe a
little bit more ideal than than England, because there's people who,
you know, they save up their entire lives to go
play golf in England, right.
Speaker 6 (45:33):
Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 1 (45:34):
So if I were to do that, where do I
want to go play that you've played in England?
Speaker 16 (45:38):
Yeah, any coastal course links golf is great, but I
would say go up to Scotland and play Scottish golf.
Speaker 6 (45:45):
Really yeah, the golf courses up.
Speaker 16 (45:47):
There are unbelievable, Like Saint Andrew's, King's Barnes, You've got Carnoustie,
like all of them.
Speaker 1 (45:52):
Now, these are world renowned places. You're rattling them off
like I would mention, like you know, public courses of Kentucky, right, yeah,
I mean play them all.
Speaker 6 (46:00):
I've played all of them.
Speaker 1 (46:01):
Yeah really yeah, Well at them all.
Speaker 16 (46:03):
Yeah, yeah, I try to Wow. Yeah, it's and Andrews.
I played and Andrews last year and shot six on
the rod course.
Speaker 1 (46:11):
Now was that competitive or was that competitive?
Speaker 9 (46:14):
All right?
Speaker 1 (46:14):
Are you abe? Are you capable of like throwing the
bag in the back of a car and you go
out you just play with randos like me? Yeah, but
you're capable of doing that. You do like you have
like the college kids who play golf but they're not
on the golf team. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (46:28):
Like when I go home in the summer.
Speaker 16 (46:29):
One of my best friends, she's called Grace, We just
like rock up to the golf course at whatever time,
she says, and then go out and play nine and
have a laugh.
Speaker 1 (46:37):
Yeah, and you're laughing at her. I'm sure. Right. Do
you do you fall like fall into like tutor mode
like you I help you with your swing? That's sort
of no, no, because that's I'm asking for myself. Use
somebody to go on a course with me and just
laugh at me, but also give me some pointers because
the people that I play with, all they do is
laugh at me. There's no pointers.
Speaker 2 (46:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 16 (46:56):
No, sometimes I give her I'll give her a little
bit help, Okay, if she's growl for it, but otherwise
it's just all laughs, both at me and at her.
Speaker 1 (47:03):
So wait, she can't laugh at you, right, collegi, you
played an LPGA event this week?
Speaker 6 (47:09):
True, that is true.
Speaker 1 (47:10):
How many more years of college do you have?
Speaker 6 (47:12):
I have one more year left, one more.
Speaker 1 (47:13):
Year you see? Yeah, okay, junior.
Speaker 6 (47:16):
Right now, and then I'm going into my senior year.
Speaker 1 (47:18):
And then are you thinking, like you know what this
this is I'm going to be back on this tour
full time.
Speaker 6 (47:22):
Yeah, ideally that is the plan. One thousand.
Speaker 1 (47:26):
How do you make that happen?
Speaker 16 (47:28):
Just working hard, working hard, keep grinding like I am doing,
and take notes from the girls out here. I mean,
watching them and being here this week, like taking advice
from them is unbelievable, right yeah yeah?
Speaker 1 (47:41):
Or do you get along with the Xavier players when
you're out there? Yeah?
Speaker 16 (47:44):
I mean I've never really met them, so I never
met any of them, right, But I mean when we
see each other, friend, you're friendly, You're nice.
Speaker 1 (47:52):
Okay, It's it's not that way in all the sports.
Speaker 16 (47:54):
No, it's not like a big, big rivalry like you're
having like football or baseball.
Speaker 1 (47:57):
Basketball doesn't have a football team. Yeah, Actually you can
taunt those people about that. Yeah, undefeated since nineteen seventy
four basketball, Maybe a little bit of a different story,
just a little Yeah, very good. What do you like
to do when you're not playing golf?
Speaker 16 (48:10):
When I'm not playing golf, I what are you studying?
I'm studying interdisciplinary studies. Okay, so it's like right now
I'm in between sports, medicine and communication.
Speaker 1 (48:22):
Okay.
Speaker 16 (48:23):
Yeah, But when I'm not playing golf, like, I just
like hanging out with my friends.
Speaker 1 (48:27):
Like right, yeah, typical college kids be in a typical
who's playing this weekend an LPGA event? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (48:33):
Exactly?
Speaker 1 (48:33):
Do you do your teammates get a chance to come
out and watch it? Did you go to school with
get a chance?
Speaker 6 (48:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 16 (48:37):
So, unfortunately, because our school is finished, we're done this school.
Everybody's gone home pretty much except like there's I think
there's two people left at school right now.
Speaker 1 (48:46):
In the entire school.
Speaker 6 (48:47):
Well it might feel like at a minute, but no.
Speaker 16 (48:51):
One of the girls, one of my teammates, came out
and watched me for a few holes today, so that
was really nice. And then a lot of our supports
stuff that you see have come.
Speaker 1 (48:57):
Out so nice. Yeah, well earned well, best of luck
this weekend.
Speaker 6 (49:01):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (49:02):
Yeah, and well, like what's tonight, like you call it
an early night and then you know, back at it
tomorrow or try to forget about the round, forget about
golf and think about something else. Yeah, you do this eason.
Speaker 16 (49:12):
I'm trying to move out my apartment right now, so
I've got that going on, packing up some boxes and
taking a bath.
Speaker 1 (49:19):
Yeah. Oh it kind of sounds like my night. Yeah,
pack up some boxes and take a bath, although I'm
not moving. Well, congratulations on and I mean, I mean
I was thinking about you, and I'm going this has
got to be a day that she's dreamed about her
entire life. To be in this event and to do
it in the town that you play collegiate golf in
is awesome, so awesome. We'll be watching this weekend and beyond.
Speaker 6 (49:41):
Yeah, thank you very much.
Speaker 1 (49:42):
Can thank you enough. That's a lease rhymer from the
University of Cincinnati and uh competing in her first ever
LPGA event and just finished her around here at MCAATEEWA.
It's fourteen minutes after four o'clock. Will step aside broadcasting
from the Kroger Queen City Championship. He sented by P
ANDNG on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 2 (50:02):
Cincinnati Sports Station Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty. Traffic from the.
Speaker 1 (50:09):
UC Health Traffics twenty one minutes after four o'clock. This
is ESPN fifteen thirty. I'm oegger a little bounce, someized
up because we're broadcasting outside. Maybe more outside shows. This
is fun here at Mcteewah. The LPGA tours in town.
It's the Kroger Queen City Championship, presented by P and G,
(50:30):
Brennanman and Jones on baseball later on this hour. Red's
win today fifteen what over the Washington Nationals off to
Cleveland for three this weekend. Chase Burns terrific again today
Reds obviously hit a bunch a couple of homers from
JJ Blaney. Matt McLain also went yard. Cincinnati had fourteen
hits on the afternoon. More on that a little bit
(50:53):
later on. Don't forget tonight, we have a schedule release
show at Dickman's Fort Wright from six to midnight on
seven hundred WLW. We are looking forward to that. Last
night I've been I've heard from multiple people the last
night was not a great night for sports in Cincinnati
because of fan behavior. And I think there's two different issues.
(51:16):
If there's lots of things from last night's game, and
I don't want to pour cold water over any excitement
that emanated from the way the Reds won today or
that the Reds won today. But you know, I drove
away from the ballpark last night thinking about how the
Reds gave Nicolodolo five runs in the first inning and
he gave four back in the top of the second,
(51:37):
and how he couldn't get past the fourth. And Nicolodolo
is a big, big, big part of this team, and
he's allowed clunkers, he's allowed bad starts, But the margin
for errors shrinks when you are playing top to bottom
as poorly as the Reds have, and they've you know,
obviously squandered a huge scoring opportunity in the bottom of
the ninth inning. There was an attempted bunt which that
(52:00):
filled my timeline regardless. I mean, had the bunt been successful,
that would have been better than the butunt not working,
but the Reds don't score. And then, obviously, and understandably so,
a lot of focus on the ball that Spencer's steer
hit that was ruled fan interference. And I don't know
if that ball leaves, I don't know if that ball
(52:21):
is a home run. I don't know. But I do
know this, if you're sitting where that guy was sitting
last night, you can't reach over and pull a ball
into the stands. That's gonna be fan interference. I don't
know that I've ever I don't know that I have
ever sat in the first row in the outfield. I've
never sat in the first row in the infield. For
(52:42):
that's for what that's worth. So it's easy for me
to say that I wouldn't reach over, but I would
like to think that I wouldn't. Right, Like, I'm a
big believer in everybody want to wear a glove to
the game. We're a glove to the game. You're not
hurting me if you do. Just don't reach over and
interfere with gameplay. And so it was very fair to
wonder how that inning unfolds, if Spencer Steer doesn't have
(53:04):
to stop at second base, Maybe it ends up being
a triple, Maybe it does end up being a homer.
I don't know. I think we could all acknowledge that
I don't know that we have to go online and
try to find the guy and ruin his life, Like,
all right, should he have done it? No? Is that
this mortal sin that should cause him shame for the
rest of his existence? Come on, man, Like, there are
(53:27):
a lot of folks. There are a lot of folks
who are wailing away at that dude last night on
social media who might have done exactly the same thing.
I would like to think that I wouldn't. I have
no interest in wearing a glove to a game just
because I hate carrying stuff around. I lose my wallet
and phone and keys on a regular basis, Like I
(53:50):
just generally don't like carrying stuff. I wouldn't want to
sit there and wear a glove for a whole game,
and I'd probably lose it if I did. But if
I was in that guy's position and I had a glove,
I would like to think that I would know the
difference between catching a ball that was clearly going to
clear the fence and reaching over, and so my guy
shouldn't have done it. But if we're now going to
(54:14):
spend the rest of today, and I said earlier that
I've I've not done a tonal social media today because
I don't want to see schedule re lease leaks. But
when I did look at it, I saw some folks
attempting to like identify the guy to do what, like,
what purpose does that serve? So he did something he
(54:34):
shouldn't have. The rules say you get kicked out. I
felt bad he had a little kid with him. You know,
that kid didn't deserve to get kicked out of the game,
but you know he was had to be escorted out
or he had to leave with the adult that brought
him to the ballpark. But like, all right, you know,
he shouldn't have done it. The Reds lost that game
last night because they had a five nothing lead and
(54:55):
Nicolodolo gave it back. And they lost that game last
night because they had the winning run in gooring position
in the ninth and couldn't get him off second base.
And they lost the ball game last night because Tony
Santion and apparently nobody wants to do anything about this,
has been pitching batting practice now for three weeks. Those
are the reasons why they lost. But yeah, man, like
(55:16):
you can't reach into the field of play. He did
it doesn't deserve the death penalty for it. So I
don't know. Can we leave the dude alone? And I
don't know if anybody has been successful and like identifying
the guy or locating the guy, Like, I don't know,
But if that's what we're doing, we're better than that, right,
(55:39):
Like as Reds fans, we're better than that. Like we
the Steve Bartman thing is one of the most remarkable
things that has happened in the twenty first century as
far as I'm concerned, because in an era where nobody
is anonymous, that guy has spent the last fifteen years
anonymous and the burden lifted from him because the cub
(56:00):
did win the World Series in twenty sixteen, and I
guess he got a championship ring. But like, people ruin
that dude's life, or at least people tried to ruin
that dude's life. And I think there's a lot of
us who look down on the Cubs fans who did that.
Let's not be this version of that. By the way,
the Bartman play came in Game six of the two
thousand and three National League Championship Series, with the Cubs
(56:21):
five outs away from going to a World Series. That
play last night occurred during Game number forty two in
the middle of May, with the Reds in last place,
the stakes are a little bit different. The treatment should
not be the same. The guy if you want to
whale away as the dude who ran out of the
field at the FC Cincinnati game last night. And this
(56:42):
comes up occasionally, fan runs out onto the field and
I I've been doing this show for nineteen years, and
if there's one thing that I hope has come through
in those nineteen years, it's that I can find humor
in anything. And it makes people mad sometimes, But I
can find the humor in anything. When fan runs out
(57:03):
onto the playing field, I don't find that funny. And
I try not to get too serious on this show.
But man, in this day and age we live in,
like dude goes somewhere where he's not supposed to be,
I assume ill intentions and awful results. I don't know
what that guy was trying to do with Leonel Messi
(57:23):
last night. I don't know if he just wanted an autograph,
shake his hand. I don't know if he wanted to
make a statement. Oh no idea. But like, I didn't
see that live. I was at the Reds game last night,
but when I saw it fans cheered him, which is
always what happens. Like you want to shame somebody. Shame
that dude, because I think when people do that that
(57:44):
can be terrifying. It'd be terrifying for the athletes. And
Lionel Messi handled it cool. But when I see a fan,
and I use fan in quotation marks, when I see
somebody running onto the field, I'm left, because of the
climate we live in now, to assume that that person
is about to do something really really really really really bad.
And yes, it's usually some drunk dude, maybe on a
(58:05):
dare from his buddies. But if we're gonna shame anybody,
it ain't the guy with the kid at the ballgame
last night, Like, all right, be angry with him for
five minutes and then wonder why they couldn't win a
game where they scored five runs in the first inning.
Wonder why they keep trotting out Tony Santien in high
leverage situations. Wonder why Nicolodolo can't get anybody out and
(58:26):
leave the dude alone. Want to shame somebody the guy
at the West end of Cincinnati's soccer venue last night.
Shame that guy because it's gonna happen at some point,
and I hate to say that, like it's it's There
have been so many things that have happened in our world,
in our country that have been previously unimaginable. That's on
the list for me. It's gonna happen. Dude's gonna have
(58:49):
a gun, a weapon, and hopefully he doesn't cause harm
to anybody. But when I see that happen in real time,
I assume that's what we're about to watch. Fortunately, that
didn't happen last night. Don't know who that guy is,
don't know where he lives. Want to shame somebody, Shame
that guy. Four thirty we're broadcasting from Mcatewah. No fans
running onto the course here. It's the Kroger Queen City Championship,
(59:11):
presented by P ANDNG. This is ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports.
Speaker 2 (59:15):
Station, Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 3 (59:20):
Traffic from the UC Health Traffic Center.
Speaker 1 (59:23):
Deet Movie twenty four from five o'clock. This is ESPN
fifteen thirty. Bowegger broadcasting today from Mcinteewah, hosting the Kroger
Queen City Championship, presented by P and G. Breneman and
Jones on baseball is coming up being tested about fifteen minutes.
Reds beat the Nationals today fifteen to one. This event
is unfolding its day one and Mcinteewah has been a
(59:47):
terrific host for US here and certainly seems like a
terrific host for the LPGA. This event could not happen
without the support of the folks at P ANDNG. Macgriffith,
brand director from P ANDNG, is with for a second
consecutive year.
Speaker 17 (01:00:01):
It's great to be back.
Speaker 1 (01:00:02):
We're all holdover from last year.
Speaker 17 (01:00:04):
Thrilled to be back with you. I appreciate you coming
out in the tournament.
Speaker 1 (01:00:06):
Fun weekend right, it's amazing, great site, beautiful course.
Speaker 17 (01:00:10):
We're excited to be at Macatiwa for PNG and Kroger.
There's actually a really cool connection Back in nineteen ten,
Barney Kroeger William Cooper Procter were two the founding members
of Macatila, So it's awesome to have it back in
the city and a little connection for our companies.
Speaker 1 (01:00:22):
So it works out pretty well.
Speaker 17 (01:00:23):
Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (01:00:24):
How does an event like this unfold and what's P
andg's involvement.
Speaker 17 (01:00:28):
Yeah, we started planning this as soon as we wrapped
up year four at TPC and really try to focus
on Obviously, the outlier staff does a great job of
getting an amazing field out here. We're excited about that.
We start working on what are the fan experiences and
how do we make sure in addition to world class golf,
there's something going on everywhere, and so that's where our
brands love to get involved and find fun ways to
(01:00:49):
engage fans. We've got Beauty on the Green and the
fan Zone. You can get a free dry styling thanks
to Panteen head and shoulders. We work with Pampers. On
the Family center, young families are welcome. We've got changing
sts Tampa says the autograph alley, So we're trying to
make it fun for everyone.
Speaker 1 (01:01:05):
Dry styling, I'm not sure I've had one of those,
and I don't know that I'll be in the market. Yeah,
I don't know that I'll be in the market anytime soon.
Speaker 17 (01:01:11):
It's the first place my Duti goes.
Speaker 1 (01:01:14):
I would imagine you mentioned that the fan zone though, right,
and I've tried to tell people this and having come
out last year and the year before, like you could
be a hardcore golf in and just be into the chorus,
be into the players, be into what's happening on the leaderboard,
and you're gonna have a blast. You could be all right,
I like golf, but like I'm not following the nuts
(01:01:34):
and bolts of the LPGA Tour every single weekend, and
you'll still have an equally good time. That's right.
Speaker 17 (01:01:39):
I think you're so close. You get to see the
best in the world.
Speaker 1 (01:01:42):
Go at it.
Speaker 17 (01:01:42):
You see how smooth these swings are. They can put
it wherever they want. And then, like you said, when
you need a little break, go into the fan zone,
get a bite to eat. There's a golf simulator in there.
You can see your swing versus theirs, and how big
a gap there is. That's humbling.
Speaker 1 (01:01:54):
I think I'd rather have a dry style.
Speaker 17 (01:01:58):
You and me both.
Speaker 1 (01:01:58):
Yeah, that's the thing. It's interactive and family friendly. And
you mentioned autographs, and what is so cool to me
is you know these players are locked in, but when
they get to that area, they will stop, they absolutely
and they will engage.
Speaker 17 (01:02:13):
Nelly corda number one in the world, coming off of
nine from nine, you've get a little bit of a
hike over to tens. She's walking through, signing a couple
autographs for some young girls as she's going through. They
really make it a point to invest back in the fans,
and I think young kids and older kids look up
to that and really appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (01:02:29):
You talk about the venue change and this is no
knock on Kenwood or TPC at River's Bend, awesome venues.
But what role does P ANDNG have And you mentioned
the connection, but what role does P ANDNG have in
helping the LPGA find a venue like this?
Speaker 17 (01:02:43):
Yeah, that's honestly, that's not our role. The team at
Outlier is the one who really figures out what are
their great courses. Once we know the course, we work
hand in hand with Outlier, with mcatiua on how do
we make this a great experience? You and I were
talking before we came on air. I love how many
holes you can see at one time right this course,
it's amazing. You've got a great view from eighteen of
(01:03:04):
eighteen of nine of the driving range of one. So
we're thrilled to be here. But we let the people
who know golf really well figure out what that's.
Speaker 1 (01:03:12):
Probably that's probably for the best. That's probably for the best.
How did you guys get along with the LPGA tour. Yeah.
Speaker 17 (01:03:16):
This the idea really started six years ago, about thirty
five years ago. There was an LPGA tournament here and
it had been a thirty year gap, and there was
a group of folks from P ANDNG and Kroger who
thought we needed to end that gap and we needed
to get the LPA LPGA back to Cincinnati. And so
those folks work together and that's where the connection between
Kroger and P ANDNG really came through. Worked with the
(01:03:37):
LPGA to find a spot on the tour calendar, and
then this year worked with the LPG on We think
from a city standpoint, the shift from September where we've
been the first four years into May put us in
a bunch better spot in terms of what's going on
in Cincinnati. There's no more competing with Bengals Sunday in
Championship Sunday, which is great. We love this for a
few weeks ahead of the US Open, and so just
(01:03:59):
like tennis is kind of a tune up for the
US Open, a lot of the players are using this
is a tune up for the golf.
Speaker 1 (01:04:04):
Yeah, that's you know, it's what I love about the
event in Mason every August is it sort of like
takes you right into the US Open. And the moment
that I saw there was a change in the calendar,
that was my first thought, right, like, you're gonna have
a lot of players ramping up with the US Open.
Speaker 7 (01:04:18):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (01:04:19):
We were.
Speaker 17 (01:04:20):
We loved everything about it. We hoped that the weather
would be good and knock on wood, it's been amazing. Yeah,
today has been beautiful. The weather for the weekend looks great.
A little luck on Saturday and we'll be home free.
Speaker 1 (01:04:30):
Do you deal with getting feedback from the players?
Speaker 17 (01:04:33):
We always listen to the players, and especially I think
is they're finishing up the last tour. What do they like?
What didn't they like? One of the things PNG does
every player that comes through gets a nice goodie bag
of PNG products that I don't care who you are.
Everyone wants a goodie bag. Everyone wants a free meal.
So we're happy to take care of that. The feedback
at the front end of the tournament from the players
(01:04:53):
as they played this course the first few times played
in the pro am has been tremendous. I think they
love the location. It's a challenge course. You can see
that in the scores today. But they're having a great
time and they're happy to be here.
Speaker 1 (01:05:04):
The free meal is half of the reason why we're here.
Let's be honest.
Speaker 17 (01:05:07):
You know there's more inside. We got rubies out back.
Speaker 1 (01:05:10):
Oh wow, wow, Hey, hey, now did you hear that, Mike?
We might we might stay We might stay here past
past past six o'clock. What else do people need to
know if they're attending this event for the first time
this weekend?
Speaker 17 (01:05:22):
Yeah, first place, go to Queen CITYLPGA dot com. You
can get your tickets there, buy in advance, super affordable
twenty five dollars. Kids seventeen and under are free, Military
and first responders are free. So it's a very affordable weekend.
The parking for the weekend is that the pay Corps
headquarters off of the Norwood Lateral. Make your plans for
the weekend. Pick a day, pick multiple days, come on out.
(01:05:44):
You're gonna have a great time.
Speaker 1 (01:05:45):
And you mentioned something affordable, and also, you know gas
ain't cheap these days to have something so centrally located.
We set off their it's fifteen twenty minutes from everywhere.
Speaker 17 (01:05:54):
It's that's right, it's beautiful it's a great commute.
Speaker 1 (01:05:56):
Yeah, no question about it. Well, but thank you for
stopping by and all you've done to make this event
such a success and welcoming us here. It's something we
wouldn't miss.
Speaker 17 (01:06:05):
Thanks for helping uspread the work. We appreciate you.
Speaker 1 (01:06:06):
I hope we're here every year.
Speaker 17 (01:06:08):
Let's do it.
Speaker 1 (01:06:09):
And now that we've heard there's rubies, but we might
just might be here all weekend, who knows. Uh, Thank
you so much, Matt. I appreciate the time.
Speaker 17 (01:06:15):
Thanks mam.
Speaker 1 (01:06:16):
It's seventeen away from five o'clock. Mowegger broadcasting from MCINTEEWA,
Brendanman and Jones on Baseball is twelve minutes away. Our
friend Reagan Holgate from Fox nineteen is going to come by.
A year ago at this event, she said she was
going to play me and I'm still waiting and she's
trying to figure out how many strokes someoney gets. So
we'll do that. Coming up in twenty minutes on ESPN
fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports.
Speaker 2 (01:06:37):
Station Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 3 (01:06:42):

Speaker 1 (01:06:57):
An AX schedule comes out tonight in the NFL. Yeah, set,
I've thirty this evening, we'll know, And I know a
lot of folks have already leaked out a lot of
different games. When I decide to go into a cocoon,
when I decide to, like go under a rock, I'm
really really good going under a rock, and so I've
(01:07:17):
I've done that today. I am blissfully unaware beyond the
Madrid game, and I know it's been widely reported that
it's very likely the Bengals are playing at home on
New Year's Eve against Baltimore. And if I said that
and spoiled it for you, my apologies, because maybe there's
folks like me who are like, dude, I don't want
to know anything, but like I've managed to avoid everything,
(01:07:39):
I've had nobody tell me when any games are going
to be and excited to learn that tonight with the
schedule release, if you, and since I already mentioned it,
I'll say this, I think the the thing that is
worth looking for most and I know people have different
things they're looking for. For some it might be all right,
now I know when the games are here, the one
(01:08:00):
that I'm going to go to, or I'm going to
go see a road game, that sort of thing. But
the first lens that I use is just where can
there be some competitive advantages? And so the AFC North
is a division in transition. The Bengals will also play
the Miami Dolphins this year, a team with a new
head coach, the Tennessee Titans this year, a team with
(01:08:22):
a new head coach. I think what you're looking for
are as many games early in the season against teams
with new coaches or rookie quarterbacks or some degree of
quarterback uncertainty. The fact that they're apparently going to play
the Ravens on New Year's Eve that would be a
week seventeen game, and that would mean that Week eighteen,
(01:08:44):
they're also obviously going to play an AFC North team,
So two of the six are going to be the
last two weeks of the season. I think that's where
you that's sort of where you start things, is where
can there be opportunities early in the season to take
advantage of of instability or newness or transition, like we're
(01:09:06):
going to see in the AFC North, like you're going
to see with Tennessee, like you're gonna see with Miami.
Those teams obviously will be on the Bengals schedule. Also
the bye week, I think you know, obviously playing in Madrid.
I'm sure they will tell you ideally that they don't
play either the week before or the week after. I'm
(01:09:27):
not sure from a rest perspective, Look, there's nine international games.
You're not going to be able to give everybody buys.
I actually, in a weird way, think the bye week
the week before an international game is a little bit
more advantageous. And I remember the Bengals played the Buffalo
(01:09:49):
Bills in twenty fifteen. It was twenty fifteen, and it
was a game in Buffalo, and I went up to
that game. Bengals won that game, and I remember staying
in that night and listening to folks who covered the
team talk about the fact the Bills left right after
that game. And I remember listening to people in Buffalo
(01:10:10):
talk about how Bills players were distracted going into that
game against the Bengals because they were trying to get
all of their and pardon how I put this their
affairs in order for their family who was traveling, different
logistical things they needed to take care of, and it
kind of distracted them from playing the game that day. Now,
(01:10:30):
the Bills left right after that game to go to
I believe it was London. In fact, I'm pretty sure
it was. The Bengals have when they've played two overseas games,
they've traveled sort of midweek. But I don't know from
a rest perspective, just I don't know that it's going
to be an enormous deal. If there is a bye
(01:10:51):
after or before, might not have one at all. We'll
see schedule lease show tonight from six to midnight on
seven hundred WLW from Dickman's in Fort Right. We're broadcasting
today from Beautiful Golf Course Mcateewah, hosting the Kroger Queen
City Championship presented by P and G. Reds win fifteen
(01:11:13):
to one today over the Washington Nationals. We've got to
spend We've got to spend a few minutes on a
couple of things not that unfolded today, but that unfolded
last night, that have nothing to do with the guy
reaching over to catch a ball. That's coming up, But
first Breniman and Jones on Baseball on ESPN fifteen thirty.
All right, five oh five, PSPN fifteen thirty, Good afternoon,
(01:11:33):
Almall Wager, Thank you so much for listening today. A
gorgeous day here at Mcinteewah, the home dis year of
the Kroger Queen City Championship, presented by P ANDNG graciously
hospitable for a second consecutive year. Red's One today fifteen
won over the Washington Nationals. Chase Burns again outstanding. Cincinnati
(01:11:54):
hit four homers. JJ Bledet had two reds salvage the
final game of that series against Washington ten. They're off
to Cleveland this weekend to take on the Guardians. Meanwhile,
we have the schedule release tonight, six hour schedule release
broadcast starts in an hour on seven hundred WLW, so
we have that to look forward to tonight at Dickman's.
(01:12:15):
And as excited as anybody for the schedule release, I
think she's going to tune in for all six hours tonight.
Reagan Holgate from Fox nineteen. I think, easily among people
in sports media, in any media, in Cincinnati, the best golfer,
which is why you're here.
Speaker 4 (01:12:30):
Oh, I'm so honored by that way.
Speaker 1 (01:12:31):
I don't know that as a fact, but I'm guessing.
Speaker 4 (01:12:35):
I'm trying to think. I think it could be fact.
Speaker 1 (01:12:37):
Yeah, yeah, who would be like, like, just beneath you?
Speaker 4 (01:12:44):
I want to say, Jeremy. I hope he's not listening
right now because he's gonna be like Reagan, I'm not
that good, really, but I don't know that I know
the game of anyone else well enough to make a
statement like that.
Speaker 1 (01:12:55):
But you would be game. You would be willing to
put your game on the line against anybody on the
local sports beat.
Speaker 4 (01:13:01):
Yes, one thousand percent. And you know what, It's funny
because my lovely boss jo Danmon likes to say he's like, Reagan,
I've never actually seen you swing a club, so I
don't know that you're as good as you. He's like,
I think I could go toe to toe with you.
But here's the thing about it, Yeah, I am a woman.
Speaker 1 (01:13:21):
And yes, thanks for putting that out.
Speaker 4 (01:13:27):
He says that we would have to play from the
same teas, and I'm sorry, I don't find that fair. No,
I'm not saying I have to play from the Ford teas, right,
but we're not playing from the same tea box show
because I don't hit the ball as far as he
probably does.
Speaker 1 (01:13:43):
Right, Yeah, I'm guessing that I've not seen Joe, but
I will say this to Joe's defense. There's there's a
lot of folks I know who they love golf and
they talk about it all the time, and they have
all the golf gear and it's golf courses. Are there
a screen saver? And then you're like, man, that person
be pretty good. You finally get him out there and
they play like me. So like I, I mean, I
(01:14:04):
know the profile that he's referring to him, not saying
that's you, but like that you and I both know
that person does exist.
Speaker 4 (01:14:10):
Uh yeah.
Speaker 11 (01:14:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:14:11):
And I caddied for a lot of those people growing up. Really,
that's how I got into the game. I was a
caddie for seven years and finally it got to a
point where I was like, I think I can do
this way better than these dudes. And I'm not, you know,
trying to be cocky or anything like. And I started
playing golf my freshman year of high school, took some
lessons and it just came very naturally to me. But yes,
(01:14:34):
there are a lot of guys that just love to
talk golf, but then they are gonna go hack it
around on a golf that's kind of me and it's
so hard to watch.
Speaker 1 (01:14:42):
All right, So we're not gonna play because as I
did say that, we need to get golf on the calendar,
and I would love to, but like, here's the thing,
then how many strokes aside?
Speaker 4 (01:14:51):
Am I gonna have to give you a lot?
Speaker 6 (01:14:52):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (01:14:53):
Yeah a lot? Yeah? Yeah, Well we don't have a
lot of time though, because you're.
Speaker 4 (01:14:57):
Leaving, I know, two weeks. It's crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:15:02):
Woh Is that anything we can Is there anything we
can do to change this? Can we can? I talk
to the folks over there at Fox nineteen, we can
get rid of Joe. Joe's been doing sports is the
Dina sportscasters in Cincinnati. We've seen and heard every story
he's got to tell, Like we're, you know, another Penn
Station athlete of the week. Okay, thanks Joe, Yeah, great,
we get it. I got to move on, man, and just.
Speaker 4 (01:15:25):
I've heard multiple of his stories now, like through my
two years, I'm like, hey, Joe, I already heard that one.
Speaker 1 (01:15:31):
Yeah now yeah, I man, I grew up watching him.
Speaker 4 (01:15:35):
You didn't.
Speaker 1 (01:15:35):
Yeah, when I was a kid, I you know, my
mom and I we watched the ten o'clock News with
Jack Atherton and Joe Daniman, and I thought I'd like
to be like him one day. He's been doing sports.
I think he covered John McNamara when he was managing
the Rats. So like Joe, maybe it's and then you
could stay.
Speaker 4 (01:15:53):
Right, No, Joe Daniman's not going anywhere. Well, he's been
here for like twenty plus years. You're making him sound
like he's been here for forty five.
Speaker 1 (01:15:59):
But yeah, you know, well memories, you know, with age.
Speaker 4 (01:16:04):
Right, you start to forget things.
Speaker 1 (01:16:05):
Yea, this is like though, this event today is like
in your wheelhouse. This is your favorite would I be
fair to say among your favorite things to cover?
Speaker 4 (01:16:13):
Oh, I'm in my bag this week, this is it,
This is it. I there is nothing that gets me
more excited than talking about golf. Really, there is just
a different there's just a different light that it brings
out in me because I love the game so much,
of the sports so much, and I love too now
that the LPGA just gets to be on center stage
this week, it gets to be its own singular event, right,
(01:16:34):
and you get to have all eyes on the Queen
City Championship this week, and I love that the women's
game needs that.
Speaker 1 (01:16:40):
Yeah, I mean you were nice enough to join me
last year and that was a cool event. TPC at
River's Bend is a great venue, but it was sort
of lost in the shuffle on the sports calendar. The
Bengals were opening up their season, UC's playing f Seed.
I mean, there's everybody's playing, and so you hate to
say this took a back seat, but there's only room
for so many things this weekend. It kind of has
(01:17:03):
the stage to itself.
Speaker 4 (01:17:04):
No, it does. And look, Joe Burrows toe is intact.
It's good, Okay, Okay, Yeah. The for it for the
Sunday of this championship to be on the Bengals home
opener last year, like that was so tough and I was, honestly,
I had a little bit of foemo was sitting in
the press box watching Bengals Jags, mean, like I kind
of want to watch Charlie Hole win this thing, you know,
especially after Joe went down, I was like, well, now
(01:17:25):
what are we doing?
Speaker 1 (01:17:25):
What do we do and go watch some golf?
Speaker 4 (01:17:28):
But now I get to watch golf for four days.
I strictly told Joe Danman, I said, unless there is
massive breaking news that comes through, you know where to
find me this week and it'll be a macatea.
Speaker 1 (01:17:37):
Can Joe go cover it?
Speaker 4 (01:17:39):
Huh, He'll be there.
Speaker 1 (01:17:41):
Yeah, Joe, Joe, go, Joe and Jeremy go cover. Put
on a suit and tie and look like a couple
of dudes in the men's warehouse. Come and go and
go cover it and you can be out here at Macatiawa.
Speaker 4 (01:17:50):
I get to be a fan too, So you get.
Speaker 1 (01:17:53):
To be a fan. Do you have you played this course?
Speaker 4 (01:17:55):
I have not. No, But man, the way that people
are talking about it too is crazy to me because
they are comparing it to like a major championship level.
Then you right, the way that it's playing. I mean,
if you're in the rough this week, good luck, right,
You're you're lucky to make bogie if you're in the
rough here. And then these greens, I mean the slopes,
the undulations. I was just watching on the ninth green
(01:18:18):
for a little bit there and I was like, man,
you hit.
Speaker 6 (01:18:20):
The wrong spot.
Speaker 1 (01:18:21):
That ball's gone right.
Speaker 4 (01:18:22):
It's crazy. Yeah, but no, I have never played here.
I wanted to. I missed my opportunity a few weeks ago.
I regret it very much, But maybe maybe in the
next two weeks.
Speaker 1 (01:18:34):
Yeah, well the back maybe that could be Like you're
you're going away gift, somebody at nineteen's got to know
some rich guy here that'll get you in, right, you
got a fame. I mean you would think somebody there,
like I know Tristia doesn't know anybody pick up the
phone and say, hey, get Riggan on for eighteen and
McAtee wall driver around.
Speaker 4 (01:18:52):
Heck, he's got to know someone here at MAC.
Speaker 1 (01:18:53):
If anybody does, I'm guessing it's her.
Speaker 4 (01:18:56):
I might play those guys.
Speaker 1 (01:18:57):
I have no idea. You've been sports in Cincinnati for
two years. What has been your favorite thing you've covered
that's not.
Speaker 4 (01:19:05):
This the Kentucky Derby. Oh yeah, and it's not in Cincinnati,
So if you're asking Cincinnati specific, I would have to
get back to you on that.
Speaker 1 (01:19:16):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:19:16):
There's so many cool things to cover here on a
daily weekly basis, but overall, in my two years, the
Kentucky Derby stands out as one of the coolest things
I will ever get to do. Yeah, it is just
it's all of the pomp and circumstance around it. The
Kentucky Derby is crazy. It is where everyone with money
(01:19:37):
just comes together and we are just throwing it around.
And I still cannot fathom the fact that we do
so much build up, right with all of these horses,
talking about them, and it's two minutes. It's two minutes
and it's over. It's crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:19:51):
So for years that was the item at the top
of my bucket list. And I just don't like getting
dressed up. What yeah, I don't like gett dressed up.
I'm regan. Okay, this is this is about as nice
as I get. Okay, those on this on this side
of the media spectrum, the reason we do this is
no wrinkle free pants, no ties, no jacket, no meeting.
(01:20:12):
I mean, that's that's why we do this. So I
love horse racing like a day at the track is
a blast, and I love the tradition of the Kentucky Derby.
I love watching it from afar. But for years I'd
go like, I want to do that, But now like
I watch it and I go, I don't. I don't
have a pink jacket, I I don't have a plaid
sport code that looks like my grandma's couch, which is
(01:20:33):
like in fashion now, and so I don't know that
I would fit in. Well. Joe Burrow went to the
Derby this year and had an outfit that was worth
more than my car, and the internet just carved them up.
Speaker 4 (01:20:44):
So I think you could pull off those pink.
Speaker 1 (01:20:46):
Pants in no way, shape or form. Could I pull
off the me?
Speaker 4 (01:20:51):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (01:20:52):
No, I don't think so. So I need them to
relax the dress code just a little bit.
Speaker 4 (01:20:56):
That's a terrible excuse to not want to go to
the Derby. I'll be so honest with you.
Speaker 1 (01:21:01):
But not wanting to wear a suit.
Speaker 4 (01:21:03):
Give me a break, I'm sorry. Well, the reason I
love the Derby is because I don't get to get
dressed up like that all that often. There's it's so
much fun to plan your outfit. You have the fascinators,
all of the things. And I know it was it
was freezing again this year, because of course it always is.
But no, the Kentucky Derby is a lee and you
need to get over the.
Speaker 1 (01:21:23):
Last time I planned an outfit, I had a corsage
waiting in the fridge. Okay, so there's none of that
going on. There's none of that going on you.
Speaker 4 (01:21:32):
I bet your wife. I hope she eventually hears this,
would love to like to dress you up. No, right, yes, okay,
but then you get to like coordinate with your spouse.
It's like a whole thing. It's so great.
Speaker 1 (01:21:47):
Yeah, that sounds like my wise version of Helen Earth.
Although she does. Yeah she does, because I, again, I
don't get dressed up. But there are times where I
will be going somewhere and I will, you know, I
put on a pair of shorts and a T shirt
and she'll say, like, you gotta try a.
Speaker 9 (01:22:03):
Little bit harder.
Speaker 1 (01:22:03):
Yeah, And so I'll put on a collar shirt and
we're good.
Speaker 4 (01:22:07):
It's just like a male thing.
Speaker 1 (01:22:09):
Yeah. So when is your last day on Fox nineteen.
Speaker 4 (01:22:12):
It will be May twenty seventh. Yes, I announced yesterday
that my time in Cincinnati is coming to an end.
It was a it was a great two years here.
Speaker 1 (01:22:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:22:21):
I loved it here. I've loved everything that I've gotten
to cover. For a girl who lives in breathes sports,
I mean, a city like this doesn't get much better, right,
being able to being able to cover Joe Burrow and
the Bengals and everything that the Cincinnati Reds have done
or not done in the two years.
Speaker 1 (01:22:39):
Yeah, and I've spoken like a real Cincinnati and you're
really a part of us. Now that's good.
Speaker 4 (01:22:43):
No, and I told you before this, But of course
I'm leaving and the Bengals are actually coming into form
and feel like a very interesting team this year that
should absolutely contend for a Super Bowl. And it just
makes sense because I covered two of the most forgettable
years and here we are.
Speaker 1 (01:23:02):
So you're blaming yourself.
Speaker 4 (01:23:04):
I'm not blaming myself, but I'm taking it personally.
Speaker 1 (01:23:09):
I understand. Yeah, I get it. What excuse then, do
I have for rooting for this team for the better
part of forty years and most of what I have
to show for it are the nineties, So.
Speaker 4 (01:23:22):
You don't learn.
Speaker 1 (01:23:24):
Well, that's a true statement. That's a true statement. What
has been the best part about working for Channel nineteen.
It's Fox nineteen. I don't like it when you call
it Channel nineteen.
Speaker 4 (01:23:32):
No, it's Fox. It's actually Fox nineteen.
Speaker 1 (01:23:34):
Now Fox nineteen, Now, thank you.
Speaker 4 (01:23:36):
Just our team we have. I know I'm absolutely one
hundred percent biased, but we have the best sports team
in the market. We can we can do everything and
cover it just about as good as anyone else.
Speaker 1 (01:23:50):
Your Friday night show, and I've said this to your
Friday night high school football show is the best.
Speaker 4 (01:23:56):
Yeah, I love it. Who it's crazy in a market
as bagas Cincinnati would have a thirty minute Friday night
high school football and basketball show.
Speaker 1 (01:24:06):
Yeah, yeah, that we care.
Speaker 4 (01:24:08):
We care about covering these teams in these high schools,
and that's something that I'll definitely miss the most. Man,
the high school football scene here in Cincinnati is unlike
anything I've ever experienced. It's it's crazy. These these fans
are so passionate. Yeah, I'll miss that for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:24:24):
I always think it's fun when you know, I went
to a high school in northern Kentucky.
Speaker 4 (01:24:28):
Scott Sure, and the Eagles.
Speaker 1 (01:24:30):
The Eagles, Yeah, and you know, occasionally their highlights won't
get on and I'll send a snarky text, Oh I know.
And you know, hey, I guess a camera crew couldn't
get out to Taylor mill You were in Highland Heights,
you were in Fort Thomas, you found your way to Edgewood,
couldn't couldn't get off Exit seventy nine there and Taylor
Millon do us a solid so, but I imagine you
(01:24:52):
get that on a larger level from more rabid fans.
Every every Friday night.
Speaker 4 (01:24:57):
I can tell you, yeah, for certain that Joe Daniman
has read many of those text messages in the sports
department on a Friday night from moeger.
Speaker 1 (01:25:06):
Well every week. I mean, I don't bother the guy
I'm looking. I can't even believe he has my number.
It's the Dean of Cincinnati Lucky Dean of Cincinnati sports cast.
Speaker 3 (01:25:15):
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:25:17):
Growing up and back in the day, I would say, man,
one day, one day, I'm want to have Joe Daniman's
phone number, and here we go.
Speaker 4 (01:25:23):
I feel lucky.
Speaker 1 (01:25:24):
Uh you you talked about your golf background. Were you
started as a caddy?
Speaker 4 (01:25:29):
Started as a caddy? I was what I grew up
in Michigan, and the legal age that you could start
working was I think fourteen, and my my parents are
like cold, get on out there, get a job, and
there's a golf bag, right, and caddying just kind of
fit me. And I was one of the only females
out there. So you know that that type of player
(01:25:51):
that you know is at a country club, a private
country club loves the female caddies and so you know,
you know.
Speaker 1 (01:25:58):
But but not fourteen year old female caddies.
Speaker 4 (01:26:01):
No, no, no, I'm not trying to say it like that, okay,
but it was just really good learning experience for me,
you know, being that young, I actually had to had
to talk to someone for four hours. You know, you
learn interpersonal skills, you learn everything. And then finally I
was like, man, these guys are so bad. I think
I could. I think I could do this better.
Speaker 1 (01:26:21):
So you decided to pick up the club.
Speaker 4 (01:26:22):
I did, and I played high school golf.
Speaker 1 (01:26:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:26:25):
I went to Michigan State, tried to make the club team,
had a really bad day that the try. It was
only nine holes. All you get is nine holes, and
I had had a rough outing, so you didn't make it.
I didn't make it, and I still think about that.
Speaker 6 (01:26:39):
That was just what college did?
Speaker 1 (01:26:41):
You drop out it for one year? You couldn't go back.
What happened? I guess I never try it out again,
not being your blood that much. Nine holes, I'm done,
you know whatever, I'll go try something else that was interesting.
Speaker 4 (01:26:54):
Yeah, I guess I never tried out again. But then
I would just I would play with my friends, and
I so much better than them. They would always want
to put like a pack of white claws on it
or something. I was taking their money every week.
Speaker 1 (01:27:04):
See now I had a good setup. Now we're speaking
my langue, right, Okay, now we're speaking well because I
talked to serious golfers and they're like, well, we'll go,
but I mean it's going to be a dry eighteen,
Like what were you talking about? Like, look, the course
isn't wet, Like no, we're not going to drink and
you're gonna have to leave your cigars. And it's like, well,
what the hell are we doing then? So is that
how it would be when we play in the twelve
(01:27:26):
days you have left in Cincinnati?
Speaker 2 (01:27:28):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:27:28):
Thousand percent. No, I'm out there from a handicap. Okay. Yeah,
I'm a serious golfer. Okay, I have the USGA app.
I pay for that app.
Speaker 1 (01:27:36):
So you're putting in like slope rating and all that stuff.
Speaker 4 (01:27:38):
Yeah I am. And I'm keeping track of my putts.
I'm keeping track of where does my drive go. I
want to know all of these statistics. I'm crazy and
for what nothing, Like I don't play, I just play.
I'm a leisure golfer. Okay, right, but I still have
that competitive.
Speaker 1 (01:27:52):
Edge to me, so like, no, bluetooth speaker, We're not
doing that. No, No, you're fun use it?
Speaker 4 (01:27:58):
Okay, No, I know this is the number one thing
about me. Yes, I love to play golf, but I'm
too competitive with myself to like actually have fun with it.
Like I couldn't tell you the last time I had
a drink gu on golf course. I'm so sorry.
Speaker 1 (01:28:11):
I had one earlier today thirty one right on air,
Are you excited for the schedule release show?
Speaker 4 (01:28:17):
Oh, I can't wait. I'm gonna be locked in all six.
Speaker 1 (01:28:20):
Hours right, well tonight, Yeah, we're on for six hours or.
Speaker 4 (01:28:23):
Even sure it'd be up until midnight.
Speaker 1 (01:28:24):
What's Fox nineteen now doing for the schedule release? You
got Joe, Jeremy and Gabby and yourself just breaking down
every single game.
Speaker 4 (01:28:31):
It's Joe and Jair. They're holding down the fort on
Fox nineteen now. Plus that is our streaming platform. It's
also it can be found on nineteen three if anyone
out there has an antenna. But yeah, they're gonna hold
down the Ford. They're gonna talk about it. They had
some hot takes about the schedule on Sunday. I can't
say that I could come up with one. I was
just hoping that the Bengals would play the Ravens in
(01:28:53):
primetime in Cincinnati.
Speaker 1 (01:28:55):
Yeah, and hey, apparently that's gonna happen.
Speaker 4 (01:28:58):
Manifestation is a real thing.
Speaker 1 (01:28:59):
Well, I mean, after you know, three straight years where
they have to go there on a Thursday, and it's
Zach Taylor understandably so complaining about it. It'd be nice
if the NFL.
Speaker 4 (01:29:08):
That was one of the comments that Joe made about
the schedule last year. It was like, hey, can we
get one of those in Cincinnati one of these one
of these years.
Speaker 1 (01:29:15):
Well, well it's going to be apparently on New Year's Eve.
It's crazy and you can come back for it.
Speaker 4 (01:29:21):
What a way to ring in the New Year.
Speaker 1 (01:29:23):
I can't wait.
Speaker 4 (01:29:24):
Yeah, Cincinnati's going to implode that night.
Speaker 1 (01:29:27):
Yeah, because you're combining you know, amateur night, New Year's
Eve and in a Bengals game. That's yeah, I can't wait.
It sounds sounds like fun. Well, uh, congratulations, is it
we say congratulations?
Speaker 4 (01:29:44):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:29:44):
I don't know. You've had a successful run at Fox and.
Speaker 4 (01:29:47):
I've really enjoyed it. And I'll be honest, I was
a little bit surprised by the response. I've always convinced
myself that no one watches, so like I watched your
Date nights, like nobody watches.
Speaker 1 (01:29:58):
So there was a time, and this is before you
got there. Joe and Jeremy were doing something on Fox
nineteen and I just tweeted and I just said, like,
I forget what they were talking about, but I go.
It was UC football and they were undefeated, but fans
were losing their mind because they weren't winning by enough, and.
Speaker 4 (01:30:15):
They made the playoff run.
Speaker 1 (01:30:16):
This is during the playoff run, and they made a
point like I think it was you know, hey, they're undefeated,
you should be enjoying this. And I just said, like,
you know, Joe and Jeremy just encapsulized, you know, everything
I have felt about you see in three minutes. And
I think it was Joe that tweeted back like Moe's
watching us on a Saturday night, Like yep, that's it's
(01:30:38):
how bad things have gotten.
Speaker 4 (01:30:40):
Can I just say, your Twitter ex whatever we call
it nowadays, is one of my favorite things in the
entire world. Really, you are objectively hilarious, and one that
stands out to me, yeah is I think it was
a few weeks ago you said, Man, I wish someone
had as much confidence in me as as the Bengals
(01:31:00):
do and Barrett Carter and Dmitrice Night Junior.
Speaker 1 (01:31:03):
It's true.
Speaker 4 (01:31:04):
I audibly laughed, and I do that very frequently with really,
with some of your tweets, they really get to me
because it's just it's coming from a guy who was
born and raised Cincinnati, right has has grown up rooting
for these teams, And I like, I can feel your
pain through what you post. And I'm not trying to
laugh at you, like I'm laughing with you.
Speaker 1 (01:31:23):
May most people they're just pointing and laughing what Twitter
or not usually real life.
Speaker 4 (01:31:30):
But it's so good because you just you You lead
with a level of sarcasm that I really appreciate.
Speaker 1 (01:31:35):
Not everybody.
Speaker 4 (01:31:36):
Does you need to?
Speaker 1 (01:31:38):
Well?
Speaker 4 (01:31:39):
Can you do?
Speaker 1 (01:31:39):
It?
Speaker 4 (01:31:39):
Is down?
Speaker 1 (01:31:40):
Whatever? And wherever is next? Stay in touch? Yes, and
find a course and I'll come up. I'll bring the
bag and uh, I'll.
Speaker 4 (01:31:47):
Give you like a bajillion strokes aside.
Speaker 1 (01:31:49):
I'll need them. Okay, Yeah, I'm objectively terrible. I don't
see I don't pretend.
Speaker 4 (01:31:55):
I'm lowest score eighty nine. Okay, I broke n No.
Speaker 1 (01:31:58):
Eight No, I broke ninety last year.
Speaker 4 (01:32:00):
Congratulations, that's a big milestone.
Speaker 1 (01:32:02):
It was a huge I've I've always played, but like
I'm like a lot of people, I really got into
it during COVID.
Speaker 4 (01:32:08):
Of course, because there's nothing to do, nothing else to do, and.
Speaker 1 (01:32:10):
Friends of mine were like, come on, man, let's go play.
Finally I relented and it's like, I really enjoy this.
This is fun.
Speaker 4 (01:32:15):
What's the best part of your game? You think?
Speaker 1 (01:32:18):
I am okay off the tea. Everything else is a disaster.
I'm okay off.
Speaker 4 (01:32:23):
Do you put yourself in a fairway?
Speaker 17 (01:32:25):
Is important?
Speaker 1 (01:32:25):
Yeah? Yeah I am. I'm okay okay off the ta.
The rest of it is a mess.
Speaker 4 (01:32:32):
Do you have like a natural path that you're ball?
Are you going like slice? Is this like a duck
hook situation?
Speaker 1 (01:32:38):
Usually they look like you know, when Brady's singer got
hit off the ankle the other night, that's what my
that's what that's what my My strokes look like. Whack.
If somebody is standing there, you know they would then
their velocity would drop like Brady's the other night. Well,
whatever's next and wherever is next? Good luck? Appreciate thanks
(01:32:58):
for it's been nice any on the show these last
two years, and next year loved it. Maybe Gabby will
come by. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:33:04):
If that girl gets into golf, I would be shocked.
Speaker 9 (01:33:08):
No, no, no, no.
Speaker 4 (01:33:09):
She wants to be the one that'll be out like,
you know, serving who drinks, and I'm like, yeah, that's
not the way that I play golf.
Speaker 1 (01:33:15):
She wants to serve drinks.
Speaker 4 (01:33:16):
She's not gonna play, She's not gonna swing a club, Okay,
she just wants to be like, hey, crack open it.
Speaker 1 (01:33:22):
Sh take a look at a guy who brought us sandwiches.
We more than gladly replace him with Gabby. Well, best
of luck with your golf game and whatever is next.
All Right, it's twenty seven after five o'clock, Reagan Holegate
her fat Fox Night. But they do it a big
special for you. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:33:40):
I was wondering my final Sunday. Will I get my
own segment on Cincinnati's sports show. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:33:46):
Yeah, probably not, But I mean, like on your last broadcast,
are they going to make a big deal about it?
Speaker 4 (01:33:50):
Oh? I highly doubt it. No, yeah, no, I don't
need that either.
Speaker 1 (01:33:54):
It's only like a two hour newscast.
Speaker 4 (01:33:57):
You're kidding. We do so much news at Fox Nights.
Speaker 1 (01:33:59):
Yeah, I know. Oh it's all. It's so. It's they
can't carve out fifteen minutes for like a best of
or one of those deals. No, I don't think so.
Not fihit.
Speaker 4 (01:34:10):
You try to speak that into existence, but I doubt it.
Speaker 1 (01:34:14):
It's twenty eight minutes after five o'clock, Reagan, thanks so much.

(01:35:47):
Jeremy Freeman. From my end of it, you're amazing because
everything we've asked for, everything we've needed, you've provided, so
you can't beat that.
Speaker 13 (01:35:57):
I'm all about taking care of my friends in the media,
on time media member myself.
Speaker 9 (01:36:01):
It's it's all about didn't care about people.
Speaker 1 (01:36:03):
What a cool venue, what a great what a great start.
Speaker 13 (01:36:06):
Yeah, I mean, the weather's beautiful. It's it's our our
stage today. We're overlooking the the amazing short game area.
At at Macatia, which is where Xavier practices week in
week out.
Speaker 9 (01:36:19):
The crowds out here were great.
Speaker 13 (01:36:21):
You were you were rocking the cigar at the top
of the show. Just yes, you know, it's just just
like a little happy hour afternoon at a at a
golf course.
Speaker 1 (01:36:29):
Can't beat the vide. No, can't beat the vibe, can't
beat the venue. So day one and we have a
fun weekend in front of us. We give folks an
idea of some of the storylines that should be unfolding
this weekend.
Speaker 13 (01:36:41):
Well, so the storylines here. The field that's here this week,
it's one hundred and forty four playing one hundred and
forty four player field, playing for a two million dollars person.
It's one of the strongest fields on the OLPJ Tour
this year outside of the majors. I got seven of
the top ten, sixteen, the top twenty, world number one.
Nelly Korda, who is this year here. In six tournaments, she's.
Speaker 9 (01:37:02):
Won three and finished runner up in the other three.
Speaker 13 (01:37:06):
She is on a trajectory currently that I think that
the LPGA Tour really needs right.
Speaker 9 (01:37:13):
They need that.
Speaker 13 (01:37:15):
Because we you and I both grew up you know
in the in the Tiger Woods are watching Tiger do
everything on the PGA tour. I think on the LPGA tour,
they've been wanting that, They've been wanting to figure that
next Anicus Orange stand, Yeah, next Julie Inkster. Nelly is
turning into into that.
Speaker 9 (01:37:32):
And I think what the LPGA is doing, they're doing
a really good.
Speaker 13 (01:37:34):
Job of capitalizing on that on just you know, showcasing
not only her, but showcasing the rest of personalities out
here and just how good these ladies are on the
golf course.
Speaker 1 (01:37:44):
Yeah, it's nice to have that like tent pole figure,
that star that that every everything can revolve around, and
you know, I that can't help but be anything but
good for the LPGA. It does seem like an exciting
time on the tour in large part because of that.
Speaker 9 (01:37:58):
Yeah, it is. It's a very exciting time the tour.
Speaker 13 (01:38:00):
Casey Semen was on here earlier talking about just just
that adversity of the tour that it's it's a world tour.
They play in Asia, they play all over the country,
and I think here in the in the US and
here in Cincinnati, I think you hit the nail on
the head on a few pieces of this that when
the OPJA tour goes to mid markets, it's like particular,
like this week, we are the biggest thing in town
(01:38:21):
this yes, MESSI played last night, but we are, but
that was last night. I was last night as a Thursday.
We are the biggest thing in town this week.
Speaker 1 (01:38:30):
Yeah. And you know I've said this to a few
of the folks we've had here today. I don't mean
this as a knock one the folks at TPC, at
Rivers Bend or Kenwood, but it's it's nice to have
something that is really centrally located. And when when I
heard that this event was moving here, my first thought was,
may is better? Right for the reasons you just articulated,
(01:38:51):
but also like this is just easier to access for
a lot of folks in this area.
Speaker 9 (01:38:55):
It is.
Speaker 13 (01:38:55):
It's it's really easy to access. I heard you talk
about it earlier. It's fifteen minutes to everything, yes, which
is totally spot on. Like for the players, it's it's
the great access. It's fifteen minutes to get to downtown,
fifteen minutes to go to different restaurants, and just the
I think the access for fans to come out because
(01:39:17):
it's in the greater Cincinnati region, not the TBC Rivers.
It wasn't, but it's right here in downtown. Yeah. I
think it just it opens up, It opens up the
window for a lot more fans to be able to
come out to this event who may not have ordinarily
been able to do so.
Speaker 1 (01:39:34):
Yeah. And I've emphasized often today and I think you
could speak to this. This is obviously great for hardcore
golf fans, for folks who follow the LPGA week in
and week out, but you can have an equally good
time if you're very casual.
Speaker 9 (01:39:48):
Yep.
Speaker 13 (01:39:48):
Correct, And it's it's a you know, for the hardcore
golf fans. You know, you've got the Nelly Cortas, you
got the the Charlie Halls, you got the Lydia cos
who Lydia has a put on eighteen to.
Speaker 9 (01:39:59):
Type the lead by the way. You've got all those.
Speaker 13 (01:40:02):
But and this is the Beau, one of the beauty
things of the of the LPGA tour. You can, you know,
you can come out and not even necessarily be a
golf fan and enjoy enjoy a day out here because
crogram P and g have so much things, so much
going on with with their fan zone and their activations,
there's so much there's there's so much things to do.
(01:40:23):
Your daughter would have a ball out here, right, I mean,
because they're giving aways so much free stuff.
Speaker 7 (01:40:28):
She would have a total blast.
Speaker 13 (01:40:30):
And I think the the other thing that in Casey
talked about this at the Casey team with the LPGA,
just the access to the players here, it's, you know,
compared to here.
Speaker 9 (01:40:41):
With the PGA Tour.
Speaker 13 (01:40:42):
Yes, you get access to the PJA Tour players, but
it's the PGA Tour right here. You've got You've got
these ladies that when they finish rounds, it doesn't matter
if they if they shoot five under or five over,
they will sign autographs for every kid, for every young girl,
for every young fan out there, because they were in
that They were in those shoes at one point in time.
Speaker 9 (01:41:05):
I showed you photos of this earlier.
Speaker 13 (01:41:07):
So at last Rymer University Cincinnati player, so she showed
she showed me this photo earlier. Her first LPGA pro
that she met was Paula Rato, who who is longtime
LPJ pro. She met her at in Wolbourn in England
for the Women's British Open, when at least was just
a little kid. She played with Paula today and they
(01:41:31):
completely recreated that photo. So and at least showed Paula
that photo and said, this is the first photo that
I ever took of the LPGA Tour and Paula, you know,
And it's just when players hear that, yeah, you know,
it's it's they I think on especially on the LPGA
Tour out here, they know that when they signed that
autograph or when they signed that pin or they signed
that pin flag, that fan is going to take that
(01:41:55):
and that could be the next next player.
Speaker 9 (01:41:58):
And because because of the access out here on the
LPGA Tour, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:42:03):
It's I mean, it's that's what builds fans, it's what
builds players, it's what builds pros. Yep, right, pretty cool.
Speaker 13 (01:42:09):
Yeah, and it's uh And loved having you out here today,
Loved having you for the for the second executive year.
Thank thank you for all that you do to to
help promote this championship. We've got a great we do.
We have a great you know, three more days coming up.
Mother Nature is going to cooperate over the next few
days and we're.
Speaker 1 (01:42:25):
Going some great golf out here. If if we could
have three more of these.
Speaker 9 (01:42:29):
Sign me up totally. I totally agree.
Speaker 1 (01:42:32):
I cannot thank you enough for having us and your
hospitality and and your help is immensely appreciated by both
myself and my guy Mike back there, and I hope
her back every year.
Speaker 13 (01:42:44):
It is an open invitation to UH to come back
every year. I hope you love the ruby sliders.
Speaker 1 (01:42:50):
Yes, yes, that during the commercial break, so you feed
us and you don't tell me to put out the cigar.
I don't really don't care about anything else.
Speaker 13 (01:42:57):
Yeah, it's it's you know, it's it's it's the Happy
Hour Show with Moe right here at Mcatio Country Club today.
Speaker 1 (01:43:04):
It's been a blast, Jeremy, thanks so much.
Speaker 9 (01:43:06):
Thanks Bo.
Speaker 1 (01:43:07):
We're broadcasting from Mcinteewah tournament unfolds all week and long
quickly for folks who want to come out, Where where
do they go for tickets?
Speaker 9 (01:43:14):
Queen CITYLPGA dot com.
Speaker 13 (01:43:16):

super affordable. We also have hospitality tickets. Children kids under
seventeen get in free. All military, current reserve, retired and
first responders they get in complimentary all weekend as a

to serve our country and that they help with us

Speaker 1 (01:43:40):
Can't beat that. Queen City at LPGA dot com. Correct, Jeremy,
thanks so much. It's thirteen away from six o'clock. This
